Greece s Economic Impact On The Global Economy
Developed market economies have been improving incrementally. After going through a soft patch in
the first quarter, the U.S. has regained its momentum in job creation, although the quality of those jobs
is open to debate. Europe has turned a corner, with GDP expanding modestly and deflation subsiding.
Japan is also experiencing a notable uptick in economic activity. Emerging markets, on the other hand,
are going through what the World Bank has called a structural slowdown. This is likely to last for
years as a result of a variety of factors including lower commodity prices and a falloff in global trade
following the global financial crisis. India appears to be one of the few exceptions, with a first quarter
growth rate that has exceeded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prolonged bear market could slow it further, and that would affect the global economy negatively.
While we are in the midst of a recovery, it remains in the context of a high risk, slow growth world.
Government debt as a percentage of GDP has risen substantially since the financial crisis and is acting
as a drag on economies. Ultimately, growth in real GDP depends on growth in the workforce and
growth in productivity; neither appears promising. Given that backdrop, the portfolio remains invested
in companies that have proven that they can grow their free cash flow, even in a tepid economic
environment, and have a disciplined approach to allocating cash that will create value for
shareholders.
Positioning
Epoch s highest conviction ideas continue to be centered on companies where they have a significant
degree of confidence in the business and identify quality visible growth. Epoch remains focused on
companies with strong cash flows supported by secular growth in areas such as, productivity
enhancing technology and companies which will benefit from the proliferation of smart devices (the
internet of things ); commercial aerospace which will benefit from visible growth in emerging markets
and a robust replacement cycle in developed markets; financial companies with improved capital
positions and greater cash flow visibility; and companies which will

American Treatment of the Indian Tribes Essay
American Treatment of the Indian Tribes
The American Indian lived a life being one with nature. In their way, they understood the ecological
demands of the land and knew that if they took care of the land the land would take care of them. They
possessed an untouched wisdom living in harmony with the environment. They hunted the land for
buffalo, which provided food and clothing for the ages to come. In time they would almost become
non existent at the hands of the white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American Indians were known as migratory hunters who followed the buffalo as their main
staple. This led to the belief that Indians had no attachment to any particular lands. This belief ignored
the facts that some tribes harvested crops and lived in settled villages. Further push to the West to
develop the land resulted in the removal of Indians from those lands.
As the Civil War closed, the Indians with the white settlers moving into their lands and a main source
of livelihood the buffalo threatened with extinction, was faced with a fundamental choice: surrender or
fight. Many chose to fight. In 1887 the Dawes Act made it possible for Indians to own their own land.
This Act aiming to end tribal life authorized the President to allot portions of land to individual
Indians 160 acres to each head of family and 80 acres to others. The land was to be used to establish
private farms, and authorized the Secretary of Interior to negotiate with the tribes for purchasing
quot;excess quot; lands for non Indian settlement. The real purpose of the act was to further break up
the tribes by acquiring more land. Tribes as a whole were not willing to give up any portion of the
land, but as individual owners, the Indians were more liable to sell the land. This resulted in the Indian
land holdings decreasing from 138 million acres to 48 million half of this being barren land.
Assimilation is the process in which one group takes on the

Determination In To Kill A Mockingbird And Through The Tunnel
Determination Is Key
Tommy Landsora, famous baseball coach once said The difference between the impossible and the
possible lies in a man s determination. Determination is something that everyone has, it s what drives
us to consummate tasks. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird and the short story, Through The Tunnel ,
there are two characters that have undoubted amounts of determination. Atticus, from To Kill a
Mockingbird , is set on making sure his client Tom Robinson doesn t get sent to jail. In the short story
Through The Tunnel Jerry had the fortitude to go through the underwater tunnel like the other boys
did. Determinations can lead to great things but unfair circumstances can get in the way of
accomplishing said goals. In both these stories, the authors explore the idea of determination. ... Show

To begin, Atticus and Jerry wanted something very badly. In To Kill a Mockingbird , Atticus says to
scout, simply because we ve been licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to
try and win (Lee 101). What Atticus means by this is, even though he doesn t have a fair shot at the
trial, does not mean that he shouldn t try and win. In Through The Tunnel , all Jerry wants to do is
prove to himself that he can go through the tunnel like the native boys were able to. Again and again
he rose, took a big chestful of air, and went down. Again and again, he groped over the surface of the
rock, almost hugging it in the desperate need to find the entrance (Doris 3). The key word in this quote
is desperate .

Isaac Newton s Accomplishments
Isaac Newton was a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and a
theologian in the seventeenth century. He was born on Christmas day, 1642, in Woolsthorpe, England.
He did poorly in school as a kid, and even dropped out for a while. But when he was nineteen, he
decided to go back to school, and attended Trinity College until graduating four years later. Five years
after that, England was at war and there was a terrible plague spreading. Newton was once again
attending school at the time, but his school temporarily shut down due to the plague. This gave him
lots of free time and during the eighteen months that his school was shut down, Isaac Newton made a
handful of incredible discoveries.

Character Analysis Of A Room With A View
Claire Conti
AP Literature
Mrs. Scruggs
29 August 2017
A Room With A View Lucy is a young woman born and raised in 19th century England, when the
country was in its prime. England was the world power, causing it to be extremely wealthy and a safe
place to live. Lucy and her aunt go on vacation to Italy, and her eyes are opened to a whole other
world. During the time, Italy was a scummy city where the poor lived, but she is able to discover
herself while vacationing there. Within Italy, she finds love, adventure and exhilaration that she could
never experience in her homeland. In A Room with a View by E. M. Foster, Lucy s character is
dynamically developed from uptight and predictable to full of adventure and excitement as she travels
between the prime and proper England to the dirty and unkempt Italy. England is clean, neat and
boring, which makes Lucy predictable and boring due to the structured life she is forced to live. The
buildings within the city of London are simply lackluster in both looks and character. As Lucy gazes
upon a meadow, she notices how pretty cottages lined it on two sides, and the upper and third side was
occupied by a new stone church, expensively simple (82). There is no exciting architecture in
England, but everything is very old and very expensive. The diction used to describe the buildings and
the city illustrates how archaically beautiful England is, but highlights how humdrum it becomes it
Lucy. Then, when she returns from Italy, she is

What Is The Economic Expansion Of The Us Economy
The United States economy is currently in a time of expansion. This period of expansion has been in
progress since the years following the Great Recession of the late 2000s. This expansion is evidenced
by several factors including the real gross domestic product rising and continuing to rise toward the
natural level of output. As the United States approaches a decade since the last recession, there are a
number of signs that suggest this economic growth is not sustainable. The United States government is
incurring large deficits each year, leading to a continually increasing debt level. While there have been
times in U.S. history when debt and deficit levels have been high, the current debt level is not
justified. There is no major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a useful measure because it is not just focused on raw numbers that can shift based on a variety
of economic factors. It is based on how the consumers that make up an economy feel.
A statistical measure that supports the period of economic growth from the consumer perspective is
the level of Real Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE). PCE measures the spending from
households in the economy. Unlike a measurement like CPI, PCE does not base its measurements off
of a pre fixed basket (Investopedia PCE, 2016). This allows it to take into account varying purchases
and expenses for households. PCE is also based on a formula that allows for changes in consumer
behavior which can make it more accurate in the short term (Investopedia PCE, 2016). This makes it a
better forecasting statistic. Real PCE has been consistently rising since the recession of 2008. This
means consumers are making enough money to increase their purchases and further stimulate the
economy.
Real Personal Consumption Expenditures
The state of business in the U.S. economy can be seen in the inventory to sales ratio. The inventory to
sales ratio measures the inventory businesses are accumulating in comparison to the sales they are
making. High inventory to sales ratios mean businesses are likely selling less than they expected to.
This is seen in times of recession or coming recession. If

Theme Of The Dream In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Unlike modern society, in the past, especially in Elizabethan times, your privileges were not as
widespread. This included your decision to marry the spouse of your choice. In Elizabethan England,
you married the spouse of your parents choice or faced harsh legal consequences. This could include:
death, exilement, or becoming a nun. Now ,in modern society, parents still have expectations for their
children s spouse. If their children disobey, they may face personal consequences, but in America and
England, there is legal freedom to choose your spouse. An example of this is the article Bringing
Home the Wrong Race . In this article, an Asian man brings home a Caucasian girl. At first his parents
disapprove, but with time she is accepted. In contrast, in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Hermia is in
love with Lysander, but her father disapproves and will not budge. These three stories, A Midsummer
NIght s Dream, Bringing Home the Wrong Race , and Women in Tudor England , all have similarities
and differences that make them alike but unique. Despite their creation being centuries apart, these
stories have a lot in common. The main point that is shared between the three is that children bring
home a boyfriend or girlfriend that their parents do not approve of. In A Midsummer Night s Dream,
Hermia is in love with Lysander, but her father, Egeus, disapproves of this and wants her to marry
Demetrius because in those times the parents had the legal final say in their children s

Freak The Mighty Movie Analysis
Freak the Mighty After reading the book, and watching the movie, I really enjoyed both. Both, the
book and the movie, included the scene in which Kevin and Max returned the purse to Loretta Lee.
Returning the purse proved that Max was not like his dad, he had the heart of his mother. Another
similarity was that when Max came home in the police car after saving Freak, Grim gave Max a cup
of coffee because he believed that he was becoming an adult. The final similarity was the way that
Max dealt with Freak s death. His way of getting over the situation was writing in the empty book
about Freak the Mighty s adventures. Some differences are that in the movie Freak went after Killer
Kane and Max himself, in the book he just told the police

Review Questions On Information System Trends
Review Questions: Chapter 1:
1. Information systems have helped businesses to become much more efficient and productive.

What Did Joan Didion Do When To Get Home
The first thing I do when I finally get home, after sliding face up, with my bike and soccer bag
forming a haphazard 45 pound pile resting on my chest, down the near vertical 50 foot gravel slope of
a highway overpass in construction, is find out the extent to which the outer layers of my skin are still
connected to my back. I do this in the garage, careful that only brother is with me because I know my
parents will worry. As I pull up my shirt, revealing my raw back to the glaring white LEDs overhead, I
hear a kind of gasp as my brother exclaims that looks really bad! He takes a picture so I can see for
myself. To be fair, a majority of my back is indeed quite red. But the scrapes only cover the surface,
the stinging has subsided, and I am safely home. So, with this in mind, I laugh and try to reassure my
brother. It s really not that bad, I tell him repeatedly. I say that often these days. These words, as
regards both this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this subject in mind, (in the somewhat broader sense of it being a challenging personal aspect
particular to Didion herself), I decided to write about how, because I started late on my driving
education, I am forced to bike essentially everywhere. Of course, as opposed to the apparently iron
fate of Didion s genetic profile, I have no one but myself to blame for this; however, I feel my
adventures with biking complements Didion s troubles with migraines in the sense that both are
aspects relatively unique to our specific lives, both traits that a superficial conversation might not
reveal right away and both traits that often give rise to troublesome (and if we see the bright side,
often educational and even humorous) misadventures. Okay, the latter perhaps only in my case.
Didion has the worse lot here, I would

Irony In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Flannery O Conner, a Gothic literature writer, has written several short stories throughout her life.
Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People, she
has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner brings
her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic humor. For
example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. The titles and names such as
grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically. These subtle
characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions all her
characters deserve.
The Grandmothers character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than how
she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of A
Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner emphasizes
how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks her son Bailey to
dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother who is able to just
get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is something most people tend to
do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance.
As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics reviews of A
Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that you perceive one as
being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother, as stated before, one may
assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite. While the Misfit would most likely
be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact is a decent human being. Wynne
emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save herself by calling the Misfit one of her
children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of the same good blood, must also be good. In
these aspects I completely agree with these writer s interpretations of the grandmother and the

Ethics In The Crucible
In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic ethics. Two
big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John Calvin. From them
came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite side of thought, the idea
that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works that we read all take these ideas
into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of
an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the
idea that what God says must be done regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an
Angry God is a sermon by Rev. Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to
sinners, in this case the Puritans of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a
fearful and powerful way unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to
back up his sermon by opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then
goes on to say that the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it
is theological ethics because he says that the verse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Music And Arts Festival
Go with the flow I have been to multiple concerts before but nothing compares to the Resonance

weed that filled the air, and the music that blared through the speakers were all things I will never

tie dyed bags, shirts, skirts, and head bands. I made my dad stop at one booth because I saw a dress
that I absolutely loved. It was priced at $30. When I paid for my purchase the woman expressed how
grateful she was that I was buying her clothing because that is how she made a living. She told me the
story of how she lives in her car, and travels to these festivals. I felt sad for a brief moment until I

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Low Physical Activity
Diabetes is one of the most common non communicable diseases in the world with currently 347
million people living with the condition and was the direct cause of approximately 1.5 million deaths
in 2012 (WHO). It is a condition that occurs when the body cannot provide enough insulin or cannot
use the insulin that is produced effectively. Insulin is what allows glucose to enter the body s cells for
energy so without it, too much glucose stays in the blood stream. The insulin is what regulates blood
sugar and without it, it can cause damage to the body. There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 is
caused when the pancreas cannot produce insulin and is less common in diabetic patients. Type 2
diabetes (NIDDM) is caused when the body does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Legumes are an important component in a healthy diet especially in developing countries and play a
much less significant role in the diet of western countries. Within Britain it is baked beans that are
extremely popular, however there sweet tomato sauce is usually high in sugar, and in the Far East soya
beans are staple part of their diet (Lean, 2006). It is said that leguminous plants should be a key
component in a healthy diabetic diet to control and manage the patient s diabetes. Regular
consumption of legumes should occur as they have various properties that can contribute to protecting
from obesity, cardiovascular disease and of course NIDDM. It is said that a serving a day of legumes
(1/2 a cup) can have positive effects on health, this being the minimum that should be consumed.
Mirmiran et al (2014) claims that this food commodity is a supportive functional food that should be
permanent in a diabetic s diet because of their low glycaemic index, high fibre and phytochemical
content that will help reduce the risk of complications associated with spikes in blood glucose. This is
one of the main reasons why people with diabetes or pre diabetes should have a high legume diet. It
has been shown that lower glycaemic index (GI) diet has been associated with improved control over
diabetes. The GI is a ranking of carbohydrate containing foods based on their overall effect of blood
glucose levels by their

What Is The Point Of View In The Call Of The Wild
The title of the book is, The Call of the Wild. The author of the book is Jack London. Call of the Wild
is a book based on animal fiction. This book is important because it tells a story about a dog that goes

and keep trying.
The time and place The Call of the Wild takes place is in the 1890 s during the Klondike Gold Rush in
Canada. The Call of the Wild s point of view is told from third person limited omniscient. The setting
and point of view affects the story because if it was not told in 3rd person limited omniscient it would

All images were projected to a common coordinate system of UTM Zone 37 N for Ethiopia.
Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the
assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal growth
of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water deficit has
happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the satellite sensor) is
reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface transpiration in order to save
water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective mechanism the leaf and canopy
temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of vegetation index and canopy temperature
can show the state of water supply for vegetation, with the greater ratio implying sufficient water
supply and vice versa and this approach is widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003;
Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008; Gao 2008; Bao 2012). Usually, the simple ratio of the two
variables (NDVI and LST) can be defined as VWSI using Equation (1).

Out of all the instruments in the world, the human voice is the most difficult for a computer to imitate
since it is so complex. However that is just what the average person thinks. During Miku s Live Party
39s Live in Tokyo concert, just when the girl steps out on stage to sing When the First Love Ends , she
turns away teary eyed trying to compose herself. The crowd went nuts! Fans cry over depressing
songs such as Servant of Evil , Paper Plane , and Kokoro which are all sung by the Kagamine twins
who are infamous within the fandom for dying in many songs. Perhaps what those people, who
disapprove of VOCALOID for being fake, are afraid of is that robots are gonna take over the world .
A human singer could feel threatened by the technology, fearing that they will be replaced. Aoi, the

Theories And Ideas In Bowenian Therapy
As a Christian studying the nature of people, thoughts, and behaviors, it is inevitable for personal faith
to strongly intertwine with the principles, theories, and ideas psychology presents. An important piece
for understanding individuals is found in examining their family dynamics, coping skills, and family
patterns. Bowenian therapy embodies how humans predictably function in relationships. Similar to the
Bible and its instructions, which advises people how to conduct one s self in fellowship and kinship
with others. However, the Bible does not entirely explain how people are emotionally affected by the
fallen human relationship (Brown, n.d.). The Bible provides evidence of the ultimate cause of
disharmony and Bowen s theory provides a thorough explanation of emotional and relationship ...

This could be possible from transgenerational issues, or imposition from a family s projection process.
The Bible tells us that the sins of a grandfather will affect his children, and their children, if ties and
curses are not broken (Exodus 20:5, NIV). Numbers 14:18 gives a clear account of Bowen s
assumptions when it says, The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving
iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
on the children, to the third and the fourth generation (Numbers 14:18, ESV). However, since Christ
redeemed the sins of man by dying for our sins, The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father,
nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon
himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself (Ezekiel 18:20, ESV). God basically

Summary Of The Undercover Parent
In The Undercover Parent Harlan Coben thinks that parents should use spyware to keep tabs on what
their kids do on the internet. According to Coben, there are two reasons to put spyware on your child s
computer. One, parents need to protect their kids from cyberbullying and secondly, everyone already
can see what your children do on the internet. Coben also says that children will find other ways to
avoid the spyware such as using cellphones; but, Coben says, cell phones are better than computers.
Coben deems that parents should tell their kids that they have installed a spyware in the computer.
Coben makes some great arguments, but I do not agree with him. Cyber bullying has become a great
obstacle in today s world. Coben suggests

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Service Sector
Services sector has emerged as a prominent sector among others in terms of its contribution to the
nation s income, revenue, level of employment, flow of trade crossing borders, foreign direct

basic services like education, water health care [1], both educational as well as health care services
have become crucial to a nation s development. LPG era has led the services consumers to consume
services of international standard. One among the more vital area of service sector is health care
services. It is highly essential to have congruence of services provided and the expectations of the

One among the other industries is health care industry. The healthcare industry in India is considered
as one of the largest sector in terms of both revenue and workforce employment. The primary
competitive advantage of the Indian healthcare industry lies in its large pool of well trained medical

Western countries. The cost of surgery in India is one tenth of that in the US or Western Europe [1].
The tremendous growth of the health care industry is due to its coverage, range of services offered and
increasing expenditure made by public as well private players. Besides these, reasons like a large and

Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality
In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common war
shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For instance,
many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change the way things
are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their lives are, but there are
some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In My Fair Lady and Miss
Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements intertwined within both films
through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting. The characters of both films are
revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from
My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss
Congeniality. When looking at Eliza and Gracie, not only do they display the protagonist archetype,
but they also show how someone not so ladylike can be transformed into one of nature s most
beautiful creatures a lady. However, becoming a lady was a long, winding road with many bumps in

The Process of Gene Expression
The process of gene expression is used by all known life known as eukaryotes which include
multicellular organisms, prokaryotes like bacteria and Achaea, and viruses which generates the
macromolecular machinery for life. Gene expression is what turns on the genes and makes a product.
The products made could be an enzyme, a protein, or a control molecule. These products are often
proteins, but in non protein coding genes such as mRNA genes or tRNA genes, the product is a
functional RNA. The order of gene expression is transcription, RNA processing, then translation. The
control of transcription: this is the first step of gene expression when a particular segment of DNA is
copied into RNA by the enzyme RNA polymerase and is then a joined mechanism. During
transcription, a DNA sequence is read by an RNA polymerase, which produces a corresponding,
antiparallel RNA strand called a primary transcript. The order that transcription goes in would start
with the initiate transcription from a gene by binding the RNA polymerase to the promoter DNA. A
promoter is a region of DNA that initiates transcription of a particular gene. The RNA polymerase
then splits the double helix DNA molecule into two nucleotides. When doing this the breaking down
of the hydrogen bonds between DNA nucleotides occurs. The RNA and DNA helix s break apart and
the new RNA strand is complete. If the cell has a nucleus, it will then be processed again which will
then exits to the cytoplasm. During this process a

Taoism By Lao Tzu

Professor Jacob
March 18, 2018
Taoism is a philosophy which also means a way of life. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before
Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He
believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on
their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with
virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it
was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making
up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with
certain regulations, even a food diet.
Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To
follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By
doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead
go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing
anything good for yourself. Another key point of Tzu s writing is: we need to be in touch with our real
selves. We spend a great deal of time worrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Freedom Is A Fundamental Right Of Individual Autonomy
Freedom of expression has become one of the most valued features of a free and democratic society.
Freedom of speech and expression are a set of valued rights that allow citizens to openly debate,
political issues, political leaders, and government policies. Free flow of information is evidence of a
healthy democracy. Therefore, freedom is a fundamental right of individual autonomy. However, it is
very important to show contrast that there is a vast difference between the allowance of freedom of
expression in in Canada, compared to free speech in the United States, where all forms freedom of
speech is protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights. (Tarnopolsky 1983) However,
under the 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms under Section 2b, it states that Everyone has
the right to the following fundamental freedoms... thought, belief, opinion and expression, including
freedom of the press and other media communication. (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,
Section 2b) While section 2b is guaranteed to protect freedom of expression, it is subject to Section 1,
which states that all Charter rights can be struck down within reasonable limits. The Oakes Test has
been an important tool that has been used to determine whether the proportionality and rational of
invoking Section 1 was done under a justifiable and positive measures that outweigh the negatives. In

Why Is Thurgood Marshall Significant
What was the short term significance of Thurgood Marshall in 1947 1967?
Thurgood Marshall was significant as he was the first African American to be appointed a position in
the U.S Supreme Court, in 1967. His significance to civil rights is evident between 1947 and 1967, in
one contemporary newspaper he was even referred to as Mr Civil Rights . In 1947 1961 Thurgood
worked as the NAACP s lawyer, where he argued his most famous cases Brown v Topeka (1954) and
Browder v Gayle (1956). Furthermore, the appointments by both, President John F. Kennedy and
President Johnson, are significant in themselves because he was the first African American to be
appointed to the Supreme Court. Despite his influence on the civil rights movement, Thurgood took a
lot of criticism which effected his attitudes towards other people involved with the civil rights
movement and, in general.
Thurgood Marshall s position in the Supreme Court as the NAACP s lawyer is extremely significant.
The segregation within school systems following the separate but equal legislation passed by the
court, Plessy v Ferguson case, was something he continuously challenged. In 1934 he first represented
the NAACP as their lawyer in the court case of Murray v Pearson, following this he was successful in
winning 29 of 32 civil rights cases against the Supreme Court in 1950s. The most famous cases he
argued were Browder v Gayle (1956) and Brown v Board of Education (1954), in these cases he was
able to adjust and change

The Chesapeake Bay is one of the largest and most useful renewable resources not only in the United
States, but in the world. The Chesapeake can be replenished naturally and has been used for hundreds
of years. There are many use and non use values of the Chesapeake. Use value implies that attributes
of nature are being utilized in some sense. In the case of the Chesapeake this can refer to the crabbing,
fishing, ecotourism and scenic values of the bay. Ecotourism is when people visit a natural or

The Maryland Blue Crab, which is the most iconic creature of the Chesapeake, has decreased in
population from 276 million in 1990 to 131 million in 2008. This dramatic decrease has caused a
cumulative loss to both Maryland and Virginia of 640 million dollars. In an attempt to restore the blue
crab population, Maryland and Virginia instituted a public policy to place restrictions on the crabbing
of the Chesapeake. This is an example of a command and control policy because public authorities
established direct controls on individual actions. This created harsh economic hardships for many
crabbers, causing the Secretary of Commerce to decide that the blue crab fishery had undergone a

The trendline, known as the line of best fit or the least squares regression line, shows the linear
equation which best explains the sums up the data s trend. The formula on the right is the formula of
the line of best fit.
As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger
range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter
plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that
teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer
points than teams who win.
If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning
team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team
A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still
larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well.
Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third
period with five or six goals. However, when Team B scores one goal in the first period, the most
goals they ended up with is only four. This pattern is repeated when the teams score two goals in the
first period. With Team A, there are instance(s) when they end up with seven; with

The Internet Is The Most Popular Medium For Data Sharing,...
Nathan Runge
Between 1960 and 1980, Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf perfected two computer protocols, and created
a model that would allow multiple computers to communicate on one network (Evan Andrews, 2013).
This model, now known as the internet, has become the most popular medium for data sharing, and
communication. According to the U.S. Census in 2013, internet use at home tripled from 18 percent to
54.7 percent between 1997 and 2003 (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). This large increase in use quickly
created worldwide markets, breached the distance communication barrier, and increased efficiencies in
people s daily lives. Whether you re a businessman securely storing information to The Cloud, or an
immigrant wanting to see relatives face to face in another country; the internet gives the common man
the ability to succeed in ways that were not possible before.
Ever since the blade or combustion engine, we have seen the positive and negative consequences of
technology. The internet has been one of the fastest evolving technologies of humankind, and made its
way into almost every progressive culture around the world. As a rapidly growing and popular
technology, I believe it is important to look at the far reaches of the internet, to understand the
potential consequences towards users.
As the internet becomes increasingly accessible and efficient, companies and individuals are taking
advantage of digital marketing, online stores, quick access of information, and social networking.

War I And World War II
A state of isolationism was a goal too great for America to handle. America and its leaders had sought
to stay out of both World War I and World War II only to be pulled in by intense happenings that
inflicted chaos on the nations people. World War II would be a time in American history that would

Nosocomial Infection
Introduction
Of significant concern is the prevalence of nosocomial infection in acutely and critically ill patients.
The mouth usually provides entry for life prolonging interventions, such as endotracheal intubation for
ventilation and orogastric tubes for enteral nutrition in the ICU. These interventions unfortunately
require the patient to maintain an open mouth and impair the natural airway defenses. This vulnerable
position, in combination with other treatments, can contribute to a fast deteriorating oral condition and
a dependence on nursing to alleviate tube related discomfort, thirst, oral lesions and the accumulation
of saliva, sputum and oral bacteria. Colonization of the oropharynx is a critical factor in the
development of nosocomial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elderly institutionalized, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and ICU patients are at higher risk of
periodontal colonization by nosocomial pathogens because of difficulties in oral hygiene, changes in
salivary properties, and reduction of anaerobic flora.7, 8, 9 In ICU patients Oropharyngeal
colonization by aerobic pathogens occurs very rapidly because of incumbent changes in antibacterial
resistance, i.e., decreased immunoglobin (Ig) A salivary content, reduced salivary secretion,
mechanical injury induced by nasogastric and endotracheal tubes and mucosal desiccation. This in
turn facilitates the mucosal adhesion of aerobic bacilli and allows bacterial multiplication and speedy
growth on pharyngeal mucosa.10, 11 Oral Plaque harbors microorganisms in the sequence of initial
colonization and represents an additional source of nosocomial colonization and infections in ICU
patients. Plaque inside oral cavity is a dynamic and conglomerate system that associates microbes
ingrained in an extracellular pattern. This mainly results from encampment and amplification of
aerobic, anaerobic, and filamentous microorganisms on the surfaces of teeth, dental prostheses and
soft tissues. Dental plaque is predominately located on the subgingival and supragingival surfaces of

The Criminal Justice System And Psychology Essay
I WANT TO BECOME A CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGIST AND THIS IS WHAT I LEARNED
Madelynn Krutsinger
Introduction
I m double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology because further down the road in my life I
would love to be a Criminal Psychologist. I choose these fields because I love being able to
understand why people do what they do. I want to understand why people do things a certain way, just
looking at it in a psychological kind of way. Especially with criminals, what led them to murder that
guy or rape that girl? What pursued them and what part of them thought that it would be acceptable?
I really enjoy the concepts of the criminal justice system and how it works. I grew up in a family that
revolved around emergency units, ranging from EMTS, AEMTS, Prison Guards, Nurses, Police
Officers and so forth. Being around that at the time gave me a love for the field. Understanding the
codes, the high pace calls, honestly, even the hours. I fell in love with the idea of being able to make a
difference in people s lives, and for example, if I was going to be a police officer that is what I would
do. Originally I had planned to go to Waldorf University and major in criminal justice to become a
police officer. I saw many two faced/unreasonable officers throughout my years of growing up that I

The Longest Day Research Paper
The Battle of Normandy. Operation Overlord. The Longest Day. D Day. The date June 6th, 1944 is
acknowledged by many different names, by many different people, but it all comes down to one thing.
That the biggest amphibious invasion of beaches, Codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword,
were very crucial in ending World War II. Approximately 156,000 allied soldiers landed all along
these beaches and fought and died to liberate France. Sadly 4,413 allies died doing this. But to most
this was worth it and everybody thanks the men for their sacrifice. Thanks to them, we didn t have to
see what could have happened if we didn t proceed with the plan. Without the invasion we have no
way of knowing how the war could have played out. It may have ... Show more content on

With all the equipment gained after the beaches were ours our army and allies began to push forward
and liberate Europe. Germany was shocked and had a confused response to our invasion because they
had been expecting it but had not prepared for it. Thankfully, we never have to know how things could
have gone if we had decided against invading. With the help of Britain and Canada, we made it a two
front war. Instead of Germany only having to fight a one front war. They couldn t handle fighting both
sides at once, slowing collapsing in, putting Germany on the run. The war continued for another 16
months before it was over. But without The Battle of Normandy, it would have lasted much longer.
Operation Overlord was a success, and more importantly, very significant in getting to September 2nd,
1945, when World War II was officially declared over. D Day was the beginning of the end for
Germany, and the end of the beginning of the fight for

Factors Affecting Pacific Oysters
Introduction
Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS) is a disease which affects Pacific Oysters and it is caused
by a virus called OsHV 1 micro variant. It has been present in three estuary systems in NSW Georges
River, Parramatta River and the Hawkesbury River. A suspect case has also recently been detected in
involvement with mortalities of farmed Pacific Oysters in Tasmania. The first reported POMS
mortality outbreak in Australia was recorded in NSW in 2010. POMS affects Pacific Oysters only,
with no other oyster species at risk. This virus cannot be transmitted to humans and there are no
human health insinuations. Since the first detection of POMS in NSW, movement restrictions have
been in place on oysters and oyster products to reduce the risk of spread to other areas. It is not known
how the virus disease reached Australia. It is believed that this disease can be transported via boats,
equipment handling and environmental. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This outbreak has cost the Tasmania agriculturalists a great deal of money as in enables them to
market their business, sell and export their product. However, tests on stored frozen oysters indicated
that the virus has been present in Tasmania since at least mid December 2015. Others question its
arrival so soon after the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, long feared as a possible source of the
deadly virus. It has also been found in wild Pacific oysters growing in the Derwent estuary at a
location where Sydney to Hobart yachts were anchored. (Subscribe to the advertiser, no

Vectors, Biology And Transmission Cycles
Vectors, Biology and Transmission Cycles The dengue virus is transmitted from human to human with
a few members of Aedes Stegomyia subgenus serving as vectors, the most important one being the
Aedes aegypti mosquito as this mosquito represents the bulk of the vector transmissions of the virus.
Ae. aegypti mosquitos originate from Africa but due to human transport, they can now be found
mostly in many tropical areas around the world. These mosquitos thrive in dark, damp areas in a
tropical climate as their growth is slowed in cooler climates. Ae. aegypti have a lifespan of 10 days to
3 weeks. The following is a simple chart of the life cycle of Ae. aegypti:

Eggs can hatch within 2 days in tropical climates or up to a week in cooler climates. Larvae are very
tolerant to low nutrient sources, mainly feeding of organic particulate matter in the water. They go
through 4 instars after which they turn into pupae. They do not eat during this stage and take 2 days to
develop into adult mosquitos. Pathogenesis and Immunopathophysiology Once infected for the first
time, the host innate defences begin to work on the dengue virus by first initiating the complement
system. However, even though the complement system can inhibit the infection from many a virus, it
may have either protective or pathogenic roles against the virus depending on the stage of infection
and the host. Activation of the complement system initiates several antiviral mechanisms including
pathogen opsonisation and/or lysis, and activation of adaptive B and T cell responses. Complement is
activated through the classical, lectin and alternative pathways, depending on specific recognition
molecules. The complement cascade activates mainly to prime B and T cells to get to work on damage
control within the host. However, the pathological effects which come from the complement system
can vary in a dengue virus infection. Later during primary infection, IgM antibodies will be produced
initially in an attempt to slow down the infection and much later on IgG antibodies specific to the
specific dengue virus serotype will be deployed.

It does not refer to any specific quantity however petabytes and Exabyte are used while speaking. Big
data encompasses a wide range of tremendous data generated from various sources such as mobile
device, digital repository, and enterprise application. Big Data is a broader concept then just data that
happens to be big. It is a new paradigm of collecting, storing, handling and extracting meaning from
varieties of data. Big data categorized mainly in 3Vs as follows.
a. Data volume
b. Data variety
c. Data velocity
Data Volume: This defines the available size of data that has been growing every day with multiple
sources from companies, individuals, smart devices, and applications. Recently, rapid growth of smart
devices and social networking, and smart phones send variety of information to network
infrastructure. Larger size of data increased the volume of data that has to be analyzed and petabytes is
common in big data structure.
Data Variety: This define the different types, structures, and format of data that has been gathered
from databases, excel tables, pure text, audio, video, web, GPS data, sensor data, relational databases,
documents, SMS, pdf, flash and so forth. Structure can no longer be imposed in the past to keep
control over analysis. Evolving nature of technology introduced new data format and

The Jack Welch Era at General Electric
In the case, The Jack Welch Era at General Electric , indicate that during the period of Jack Welch was
a CEO at General Electric from 1981 to 2001, the company became remarkable profit. Earnings per
share rose from $.46 in 1981 to $1.07 in 2001. GE is a company which has a very long history, and
Jack Welch was the first working class person that finally became the famous manager in GE history.
He changed and built lots of rules to fulfill his ambition to make the company more wealthy such as
eliminated workers, changed GE s culture by promoting the notion of a boundary less organization,
used identical 20 70 20 percent curve to manage managers, and reshaped GE stocks. The story of the
Welch years has the elements of legend, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such curve is really helpful in the beginning. Before Welch control the GE, there existed two
bureaucracy problems. One was too many vice presidents and too many staffs with authority to review
and approve decisions. Other was that headquarters staff practiced a superficial congeniality . After
starting the 20 70 10 curve, on the one hand it helped to cut the inefficiency manage layer staffs off,
and also increase the enthusiasm of the staffs. Besides, his generously rewarded managers who
achieved performance goals that turned everyone in GE work harder and with high energy level. On
the other hand, this method succeeds in stopping the generation of bureaucracy. Employees in GE can
confront their bosses to express frustration with bureaucratic practices and suggest more efficient
alternatives freely. Thousands of such sessions were held to drive out the bureaucratic mentality.
However, some found this system is heartless, because no one wants to be the bottom 10%. It also
caused the high unemployment and no diversity at the top. Welch disagreed with those who found the
system heartless; he called it s a false kindness to feel heartless. Thus, during his tenure, profits with
the mental stress of staffs growth together. Since the process was repeated annually, and each times the
bottom 10 percent had to go, unemployment rate increased rapidly. Welch thought this process can
lower the business costs, but it is wrong to see

Reconciliation In Plato s Republic
Reconciliation this word is best described as the action of making one view or belief compatible with
another. This is easier said than done. However, reconciliation is the only way to move forward in any
situation in life. Athenians must be able to move past the past to get to the future. The Thirty Tyrants
left the city in a great divide and now it is the job of the citizens to move past the shambles that the
Thirty left the Athenian government in in order to rebuild Athens.
In the Plato s Republic the reader sees what Socrates has to say about justice; The injuring of another
can be in no case just. The people of Athens has to realize that no real justice comes from hurting
people whether that be physically, mentally, or even spiritually. According to what Socrates said, if the
assembly of Athens decides to follow the Thirty s great injustice with even more injustice the citizens

By having this mind set that these people automatically think they have some type of superior
knowledge about what constitutes as evil and what doesn t. This is not as easy as black and white, but
rather this is more of a grey area. Socrates also says in Plato s Republic ...Many a man is ignorant of
human nature has friends who are bad friends... Not everything that seems evil is evil and not
everything that seems good is good. There were many supporters of the Thirty Tyrants that were really
just citizens of Athens trying to stay alive. Xenophon shows how evil the Thirty Tyrants are by
recalling what Critias said in a meeting: If any member of this council imagines that too much blood
has been shed, let me remind him that in the periods of revolution such thing cannot be avoided. They
did not care about how many people they had to kill as long as they were in power. The Athenian
supporters of the Thirty cannot be punished for trying to save their own

Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk
neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current
prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and
S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That
is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T )
1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a
replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4.
Proof. Xn+1 (T ) = = ∆n dSn + (1 + r)(Xn − ∆n Sn ) ∆n Sn (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r)Vn pVn+1 (H) + q

trader should set up a replicating portfolio whose payoff is the opposite of the option s payoff. More
precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and
∆0 = − 2 . This means the trader should sell short 0.5 share of stock, put the income 2 into a money
market account, and then transfer 1.20 into a separate money market account. At time one, the

Why Do Companies Use Competitive Bidding
Title: Explain why companies use competitive bidding and explain the advantage of using it.
Introduction
In the modern businesses, selecting the qualified suppliers becomes more and more important
activities for the companies. Lots of companies use the method of competitive bidding, which is
commonly used for selecting suppliers. Transparent procurement method in which bids from
competing contractors, suppliers, or vendors are invited by openly advertising the scope,
specifications, and terms and conditions of the proposed contract as well as the criteria by which the
bids will be evaluated [1]. In this essay, I will try to explain the reason and the advantage of the
companies using competitive bidding.
Main body
The reason of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The buyer controls the selection completely. It means the buyer s position is more positive and more
powerful.
ASL upgrade
The buyer commonly sends their contract to the existing supplier. It is very difficult for the other
qualified suppliers or small sellers to be noticed by the buyer. Competitive bidding can introduce more
potential suppliers into the AVL. There are more options for the buyer.
Win win relationship
Competitive bidding is easy to acquire the win win relationship between the buyers and bidders. Both
two sides satisfy the product price, and good for them to form the long term relationship.
Better information
Competitive bidding can produce the up to date development and value of the product.
Transparency
Transparent competitive bidding can make a fair bidding environment for all suppliers. No matter the
large suppliers or small suppliers, both of them have an opportunity to chase the contracts, awarding
the contract with competitive price.
Conclusion
Competitive bidding is the more efficient method for selecting qualified suppliers. It is base on the
quotation from potential suppliers to determine the final suppliers. The competitive prices conduce to
the buyer getting more options and reducing purchasing costs. It helps the buyer and supplier to
establish the win win relationship, which may be developed into

After going through a soft patch in the first quarter, the U.S. has regained its momentum in job creation, although the quality of those jobs is open to debate. Europe has turned a corner, with GDP expanding modestly and deflation subsiding. Japan is also experiencing a notable uptick in economic activity. Emerging markets, on the other hand, are going through what the World Bank has called a structural slowdown. The American Indians were known as migratory hunters who followed the buffalo as their main staple. This led to the belief that Indians had no attachment to any particular lands. This belief ignored the facts that some tribes harvested crops and lived in settled villages. Further push to the West to develop the land resulted in the removal of Indians from those lands. As the Civil War closed, the Indians with the white settlers moving into their lands and a main source of livelihood the buffalo threatened with extinction, was faced with a fundamental choice: surrender or fight. Many chose to fight. In 1887 the Dawes Act made it possible for Indians to own their own land. This Act aiming to end tribal life authorized the President to allot portions of land to individual Indians 160 acres to each head of family and 80 acres to others. The land was to be used to establish private farms, and authorized the Secretary of Interior to negotiate with the tribes for purchasing quot;excess quot; lands for non Indian settlement. The real purpose of the act was to further break up the tribes by acquiring more land. Tribes as a whole were not willing to give up any portion of the land, but as individual owners, the Indians were more liable to sell the land. This resulted in the Indian land holdings decreasing from 138 million acres to 48 million half of this being barren land. Assimilation is the process in which one group takes on the ... • 7. Character Analysis Of A Room With A View Claire Conti AP Literature Mrs. Scruggs 29 August 2017 A Room With A View Lucy is a young woman born and raised in 19th century England, when the country was in its prime. England was the world power, causing it to be extremely wealthy and a safe place to live. Lucy and her aunt go on vacation to Italy, and her eyes are opened to a whole other world. During the time, Italy was a scummy city where the poor lived, but she is able to discover herself while vacationing there. Within Italy, she finds love, adventure and exhilaration that she could never experience in her homeland. In A Room with a View by E. M. Foster, Lucy s character is dynamically developed from uptight and predictable to full of adventure and excitement as she travels between the prime and proper England to the dirty and unkempt Italy. England is clean, neat and boring, which makes Lucy predictable and boring due to the structured life she is forced to live. The buildings within the city of London are simply lackluster in both looks and character. As Lucy gazes upon a meadow, she notices how pretty cottages lined it on two sides, and the upper and third side was occupied by a new stone church, expensively simple (82). There is no exciting architecture in England, but everything is very old and very expensive. The diction used to describe the buildings and the city illustrates how archaically beautiful England is, but highlights how humdrum it becomes it Lucy. Then, when she returns from Italy, she is ... This period of expansion has been in progress since the years following the Great Recession of the late 2000s. This expansion is evidenced by several factors including the real gross domestic product rising and continuing to rise toward the natural level of output. As the United States approaches a decade since the last recession, there are a number of signs that suggest this economic growth is not sustainable. This is a useful measure because it is not just focused on raw numbers that can shift based on a variety of economic factors. It is based on how the consumers that make up an economy feel. A statistical measure that supports the period of economic growth from the consumer perspective is the level of Real Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE). PCE measures the spending from households in the economy. Unlike a measurement like CPI, PCE does not base its measurements off of a pre fixed basket (Investopedia PCE, 2016). This allows it to take into account varying purchases and expenses for households. PCE is also based on a formula that allows for changes in consumer behavior which can make it more accurate in the short term (Investopedia PCE, 2016). This makes it a better forecasting statistic. Real PCE has been consistently rising since the recession of 2008. This means consumers are making enough money to increase their purchases and further stimulate the economy. Real Personal Consumption Expenditures The state of business in the U.S. economy can be seen in the inventory to sales ratio. The inventory to sales ratio measures the inventory businesses are accumulating in comparison to the sales they are making. • 9. Theme Of The Dream In A Midsummer Night s Dream Unlike modern society, in the past, especially in Elizabethan times, your privileges were not as widespread. This included your decision to marry the spouse of your choice. In Elizabethan England, you married the spouse of your parents choice or faced harsh legal consequences. This could include: death, exilement, or becoming a nun. Now ,in modern society, parents still have expectations for their children s spouse. If their children disobey, they may face personal consequences, but in America and England, there is legal freedom to choose your spouse. An example of this is the article Bringing Home the Wrong Race . In this article, an Asian man brings home a Caucasian girl. At first his parents disapprove, but with time she is accepted. In contrast, in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Hermia is in love with Lysander, but her father disapproves and will not budge. These three stories, A Midsummer NIght s Dream, Bringing Home the Wrong Race , and Women in Tudor England , all have similarities and differences that make them alike but unique. Despite their creation being centuries apart, these stories have a lot in common. The main point that is shared between the three is that children bring home a boyfriend or girlfriend that their parents do not approve of. What Did Joan Didion Do When To Get Home The first thing I do when I finally get home, after sliding face up, with my bike and soccer bag forming a haphazard 45 pound pile resting on my chest, down the near vertical 50 foot gravel slope of a highway overpass in construction, is find out the extent to which the outer layers of my skin are still connected to my back. As I pull up my shirt, revealing my raw back to the glaring white LEDs overhead, I hear a kind of gasp as my brother exclaims that looks really bad! He takes a picture so I can see for myself. To be fair, a majority of my back is indeed quite red. But the scrapes only cover the surface, the stinging has subsided, and I am safely home. Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People, she has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner brings her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic humor. For example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. In the text of A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance. As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother, as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite. While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s interpretations of the grandmother and the ... • 14. Ethics In The Crucible In the concept of modernism there are two ethical ideas: theological ethics and humanistic ethics. Two big influences of Puritan ideology and these ethics were Martin Luther and John Calvin. From them came the ideas of limited atonement, irresistible grace, and on the opposite side of thought, the idea that all people were endowed with grace from God. The three works that we read all take these ideas into account, and the result is a common theme and ethics between the reads. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, The Crucible, and The Scarlet Letter all reflect the concept of theological ethics, or the idea that what God says must be done regardless of the consequence. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is a sermon by Rev. Jonathan Edwards. In it, Reverend Edwards makes an appeal to sinners, in this case the Puritans of Enfield, Connecticut, by preaching that God will judge them in a fearful and powerful way unless they repent. He does this by using the idea of theological ethics to back up his sermon by opening with a Bible verse that says, Their foot shall slide in due time. He then goes on to say that the verse threatens the Puritan people with the vengeance of God. In other words, it is theological ethics because he says that the verse ... Development of NVWSI for drought monitoring The development of NVWSI was based on the assumption that when there is sufficient vegetation water supply in the soil, there is a normal growth of vegetation. In other words, normal vegetation growth is affected when soil water deficit has happened during a drought period. In case of drought, NDVI value (observed by the satellite sensor) is reduced as vegetation partially closes leaf stomata to reduce leaf surface transpiration in order to save water in the canopy (Placeholder4). During this self protective mechanism the leaf and canopy temperatures (LST) increase. In this modality, the ratio of vegetation index and canopy temperature can show the state of water supply for vegetation, with the greater ratio implying sufficient water supply and vice versa and this approach is widely applied in drought monitoring (Sheng et al. 2003; Zhang et al, 2006; Huang et al. 2008; Gao 2008; Bao 2012). • 24. Comparing My Fair Lady And Miss Congeniality In the world, there seems to be two levels of conflict. One conflict involves having a common war shared among multiple individuals, and the other incorporates more personal issues. For instance, many women across the globe feel inferior to men; however, some feel apt to change the way things are or how they adapt to the situation. Some women are satisfied with how their lives are, but there are some that will go the extra mile to see some fresh, new adjustments. In My Fair Lady and Miss Congeniality, there seems to be evidence of intertextual elements intertwined within both films through the aspects of character motives, conflicts, and setting. The characters of both films are revealed by their words and actions. The characters Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady seem to have obvious comparisons to Gracie Hart and Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality. When looking at Eliza and Gracie, not only do they display the protagonist archetype, but they also show how someone not so ladylike can be transformed into one of nature s most beautiful creatures a lady. • 25. The Process of Gene Expression The process of gene expression is used by all known life known as eukaryotes which include multicellular organisms, prokaryotes like bacteria and Achaea, and viruses which generates the macromolecular machinery for life. Gene expression is what turns on the genes and makes a product. The products made could be an enzyme, a protein, or a control molecule. These products are often proteins, but in non protein coding genes such as mRNA genes or tRNA genes, the product is a functional RNA. The order of gene expression is transcription, RNA processing, then translation. The control of transcription: this is the first step of gene expression when a particular segment of DNA is copied into RNA by the enzyme RNA polymerase and is then a joined mechanism. During transcription, a DNA sequence is read by an RNA polymerase, which produces a corresponding, antiparallel RNA strand called a primary transcript. The order that transcription goes in would start with the initiate transcription from a gene by binding the RNA polymerase to the promoter DNA. A promoter is a region of DNA that initiates transcription of a particular gene. The RNA polymerase then splits the double helix DNA molecule into two nucleotides. When doing this the breaking down of the hydrogen bonds between DNA nucleotides occurs. The RNA and DNA helix s break apart and the new RNA strand is complete. If the cell has a nucleus, it will then be processed again which will then exits to the cytoplasm. During this process a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Taoism By Lao Tzu Anette Dopico PHI 2010 Professor Jacob March 18, 2018 Taoism is a philosophy which also means a way of life. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with certain regulations, even a food diet. Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing anything good for yourself. Freedom of speech and expression are a set of valued rights that allow citizens to openly debate, political issues, political leaders, and government policies. However, it is very important to show contrast that there is a vast difference between the allowance of freedom of expression in in Canada, compared to free speech in the United States, where all forms freedom of speech is protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights. Thurgood Marshall was significant as he was the first African American to be appointed a position in the U.S Supreme Court, in 1967. His significance to civil rights is evident between 1947 and 1967, in one contemporary newspaper he was even referred to as Mr Civil Rights . In 1947 1961 Thurgood worked as the NAACP s lawyer, where he argued his most famous cases Brown v Topeka (1954) and Browder v Gayle (1956). Furthermore, the appointments by both, President John F. Kennedy and President Johnson, are significant in themselves because he was the first African American to be appointed to the Supreme Court. Despite his influence on the civil rights movement, Thurgood took a lot of criticism which effected his attitudes towards other people involved with the civil rights movement and, in general. Thurgood Marshall s position in the Supreme Court as the NAACP s lawyer is extremely significant. The segregation within school systems following the separate but equal legislation passed by the court, Plessy v Ferguson case, was something he continuously challenged. In 1934 he first represented the NAACP as their lawyer in the court case of Murray v Pearson, following this he was successful in winning 29 of 32 civil rights cases against the Supreme Court in 1950s. As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer points than teams who win. If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well. Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third period with five or six goals. Pathogenesis and Immunopathophysiology Once infected for the first time, the host innate defences begin to work on the dengue virus by first initiating the complement system. However, even though the complement system can inhibit the infection from many a virus, it may have either protective or pathogenic roles against the virus depending on the stage of infection and the host. Big data encompasses a wide range of tremendous data generated from various sources such as mobile device, digital repository, and enterprise application. Big Data is a broader concept then just data that happens to be big. It is a new paradigm of collecting, storing, handling and extracting meaning from varieties of data. Big data categorized mainly in 3Vs as follows. a. Data volume b. Data variety c. Data velocity Data Volume: This defines the available size of data that has been growing every day with multiple sources from companies, individuals, smart devices, and applications. Recently, rapid growth of smart devices and social networking, and smart phones send variety of information to network infrastructure. Larger size of data increased the volume of data that has to be analyzed and petabytes is common in big data structure.

  • 46. The Jack Welch Era at General Electric In the case, The Jack Welch Era at General Electric , indicate that during the period of Jack Welch was a CEO at General Electric from 1981 to 2001, the company became remarkable profit. Earnings per share rose from $.46 in 1981 to $1.07 in 2001. GE is a company which has a very long history, and Jack Welch was the first working class person that finally became the famous manager in GE history. He changed and built lots of rules to fulfill his ambition to make the company more wealthy such as eliminated workers, changed GE s culture by promoting the notion of a boundary less organization, used identical 20 70 20 percent curve to manage managers, and reshaped GE stocks. The story of the Welch years has the elements of legend, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such curve is really helpful in the beginning. Before Welch control the GE, there existed two bureaucracy problems. One was too many vice presidents and too many staffs with authority to review and approve decisions. Other was that headquarters staff practiced a superficial congeniality . After starting the 20 70 10 curve, on the one hand it helped to cut the inefficiency manage layer staffs off, and also increase the enthusiasm of the staffs. Besides, his generously rewarded managers who achieved performance goals that turned everyone in GE work harder and with high energy level. On the other hand, this method succeeds in stopping the generation of bureaucracy. Employees in GE can confront their bosses to express frustration with bureaucratic practices and suggest more efficient alternatives freely. Thousands of such sessions were held to drive out the bureaucratic mentality. However, some found this system is heartless, because no one wants to be the bottom 10%. It also caused the high unemployment and no diversity at the top. Welch disagreed with those who found the system heartless; he called it s a false kindness to feel heartless. Thus, during his tenure, profits with the mental stress of staffs growth together. Since the process was repeated annually, and each times the bottom 10 percent had to go, unemployment rate increased rapidly. Welch thought this process can lower the business costs, but it is wrong to see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Reconciliation In Plato s Republic Reconciliation this word is best described as the action of making one view or belief compatible with another. This is easier said than done. However, reconciliation is the only way to move forward in any situation in life. Athenians must be able to move past the past to get to the future. The Thirty Tyrants left the city in a great divide and now it is the job of the citizens to move past the shambles that the Thirty left the Athenian government in in order to rebuild Athens. In the Plato s Republic the reader sees what Socrates has to say about justice; The injuring of another can be in no case just. The people of Athens has to realize that no real justice comes from hurting people whether that be physically, mentally, or even spiritually. According to what Socrates said, if the assembly of Athens decides to follow the Thirty s great injustice with even more injustice the citizens there will never ... This is not as easy as black and white, but rather this is more of a grey area. Socrates also says in Plato s Republic ...Many a man is ignorant of human nature has friends who are bad friends... Not everything that seems evil is evil and not everything that seems good is good. There were many supporters of the Thirty Tyrants that were really just citizens of Athens trying to stay alive. Xenophon shows how evil the Thirty Tyrants are by recalling what Critias said in a meeting: If any member of this council imagines that too much blood has been shed, let me remind him that in the periods of revolution such thing cannot be avoided. They did not care about how many people they had to kill as long as they were in power. The Athenian supporters of the Thirty cannot be punished for trying to save their own ... Stochastic Calculus Solution Manual Stochastic Calculus for Finance, Volume I and II by Yan Zeng Last updated: August 20, 2007 This is a solution manual for the two volume textbook Stochastic calculus for finance, by Steven Shreve. If you have any comments or find any typos/errors, please email me at yz44@cornell.edu. The current version omits the following problems. Volume I: 1.5, 3.3, 3.4, 5.7; Volume II: 3.9, 7.1, 7.2, 7.5 7.9, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10. Acknowledgment I thank Hua Li (a graduate student at Brown University) for reading through this solution manual and communicating to me several mistakes/typos. 1 1.1. Stochastic Calculus for Finance I: The Binomial Asset Pricing Model 1. The Binomial No Arbitrage Pricing Model Proof. If we get the up sate, then X1 = X1 (H) = ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remark: This illustrates an important point. The fair price of a stock cannot be determined by the risk neutral pricing, as seen below. Suppose S1 (H) and S1 (T ) are given, we could have two current prices, S0 and S0 . Correspondingly, we can get u, d and u , d . Because they are determined by S0 and S0 , respectively, it s not surprising that risk neutral pricing formula always holds, in both cases. That is, 1+r−d u−d S1 (H) S0 = + u−1−r u−d S1 (T ) 1+r , S0 = 1+r−d u −d S1 (H) + u −1−r u −d S1 (T ) 1+r . Essentially, this is because risk neutral pricing relies on fair price=replication cost. Stock as a replicating component cannot determine its own fair price via the risk neutral pricing formula. 1.4. Proof. Xn+1 (T ) = = ∆n dSn + (1 + r)(Xn − ∆n Sn ) ∆n Sn (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r)Vn pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ Vn+1 (H) − Vn+1 (T ) (d − 1 − r) + (1 + r) = u−d 1+r = p(Vn+1 (T ) − Vn+1 (H)) + pVn+1 (H) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ ˜ = pVn+1 (T ) + q Vn+1 (T ) ˜ ˜ = Vn+1 (T ). 1.6. 2 Proof. The bank s trader should set up a replicating portfolio whose payoff is the opposite of the option s payoff. More precisely, we solve the equation (1 + r)(X0 − ∆0 S0 ) + ∆0 S1 = −(S1 − K)+ . 1 Then X0 = −1.20 and ∆0 = − 2 . This means the trader should sell short 0.5 share of stock, put the income 2 into a money market account, and then transfer 1.20 into a separate money market account. At time one, the portfolio consisting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
