There are also some elements taken from the arts and humanities such as philosophy, history and (very
controversially) literary and art criticism. It is, then, a broad field which, to add to the confusion, also
goes under several different names, some of which you will encounter when reading texts on the
subject. The two main areas are generally called Human Resource Management (HRM) and
Organisational Behaviour (OB), but the field is also sometimes called Organisational Analysis (OA),
Behaviour in Organisations (BinO), Organisation Studies (OS), and a host of other names, including
the practitioner area called Organisational Development (OD). There are, in fact, subtle nuances and
variations in emphasis denoted by the different labels. OB and HRM, for example, are both concerned
generally with people at work , although they focus on different levels of analysis. Roughly speaking,
HRM is mostly concerned with individual and group issues, drawing principally, but not exclusively,
from psychology, whereas OB tends to focus on organisational factors such as structure, design and
culture, having its main theoretical base in

Music Artist Signing Contracts
How bright does a star have to be. You can only make as much as you can count.
Music artist should really be more conscious when signing contracts . It s important to
understand what you re signing up , labels and manager will try to take advantage of the artist,it s
important to look over your own contracts .
Understand what you re signing up for! Know what services you will have to provided
and when will you receive your money or payment (s). Make sure you understand what s
required of you before you sign anything no matter how long it takes you to interpret the
information. Break everything down the contracts such as percentages, royalties, merchandise,

With conflict between two parties ,in which on in others eyes own the other, conflict is very expected,
and it may be because of the music industry itself where everyone is pretty much in it for the pay. As
shown by the falling outs in the last paragraph, artist and record label fight can arise from the simplest
of issues. And to solve this unnecessary brawl between companies and artists, artist need to do three
simple things: review the contract with a reliable manager so you won t be betrayed or falsified on
who get what; understand the pay structure so you will not be cut short, payed under your agreement,
or be payed to much; and acknowledge the particular structure of an age group or audience your
record label is targeting. If these problems are solved there will be no way a legal fight will break out
in the court of

Indian Independence Movement and Gandhi
#65279; Gandhi was an influential figure in our society. He taught many people about equal rights,
honouring thy neighbour, and peace and tranquillity. Although at times his actions were deemed
improbable and insane nevertheless, they were effective. Life of Mohatama Gandhi;his goals he

Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi, was born in the present state of Gujarat on October 2, 1869.
He was educated in law at University College, London. In 1891, after Gandhi was admitted to the
British bar, he returned to India and attempted to create a law practice in Bombay, which failed. Two

Once more Gandhi was arrested but was released in 1931, stopping his methods after the British
government agreed to some of his demands. In 1932, Gandhi began a new civil disobedience method
against Britain. Gandhi was arrested twice, then fasted for long periods of time. These fasts were
effective against the British because if Gandhi dies all of India would have revolted against Britain. In
1934 Gandhi completely resigned from politics and was replaced by a leader of the Congress party
named Jawaharlal Nehru. Gandhi then travelled across India teaching passive resistance. In 1939,
Gandhi returned to political life because of the federation of Indian principalities with the rest of India.
He then decided he would force the ruler of the state to modify his autocratic rule. Gandhi fasted until
his demands were met. When World War II broke out, Congress and Gandhi demanded that a
declaration of war aims and their application to India. Due to the unsatisfactory response from the
British the party decided not to support Britain in the war unless the country was granted
independence. The British again refused only offering compromises, which were rejected by the party.
Gandhi was sent to prison in 1942 due to refusing to help Britain in the war even after Japan entered

A Brazilian Concert Review
I attended a Brazilian concert named Choro das 3 on April 11,2016 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church.
I was expecting this musical to sound very festive, fun and relaxing. The instrumental group consisted
of three sisters and their father. Elisa played the Brazilian mandolin, banjo, and the clarinet. She also
writes and performs on the piano. Lia holds the harmony while she played the seven string guitar.
Their father, Eduardo, gave us the rhythm with the frame drum. Corina doubled n the piccolo. The
music I was exposed to doing the performance was Debussy called Fascia lee played by the piano. I
was not able to get the rest of the composer s entire names that were mentioned in this performance
due to their accents. What I liked about this performance was that it was family oriented and they
seemed very close and support each other in every move they make. However, I did not find anything
I did not like about this performance each selection was very beautiful. They took there time to make
sure every instrument was tuned right. The musical element that I would change is the tone. They all
sound alike to me but had different endings and I would change that to make it better. ... Show more

I liked the fact that the rattling of the tambourine sounded like a rattlesnake. The mandolin had a very
distinting sound to it. You could hear it over the flute and the bass guitar it had a very light sound to it.
The thoughts, images and feelings that came to me as I listened were salsa and being in the desert. It
made me feel like I was in Mexico moving my hips to the beat of the music. The other selection made
me think I was in the desert because Eduardo rattled the sides of his tambourine and made me think of
a rattlesnake. The selection was very

Nafta And The American Free Trade Agreement
On January 1st, 1994, Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico had signed a free trade
agreement, under the name the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This Free Trade
Agreement was created to achieve its goal of eliminating barriers to trade and investment between
Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. However, the question that politicians and
economists of our nation are facing is whether Canada should remain in NAFTA with its partners,
United States and Mexico. Despite a multitude of benefits that NAFTA is said to have by our political
elites, 20 years later, it is evident the agreement has been counterproductive; which is evident by the
slow move by Canadian manufacturers to Mexico, significant losses in ... Show more content on

By 1997, three years after the ratification of NAFTA, 47% of Canadian manufacturing plants that
existed in 1988, which accounted for 28% of the jobs in the economy, had closed. To add on, 350,000
manufacturing jobs from 2002 2008, were lost due to industrial plants moving to Mexico. This drastic
drop in factory/plant numbers can be attributed to the fact that companies put their bottom line first
moving facilities to Mexico because Mexican minimum wage is only $5.10 compared to a minimum
wage of $11.00 in Ontario. As a further incentive to relocate south, because of NAFTA, corporations
don t have to pay tariffs on products shipped back to domestic markets. Therefore, it is evident that
NAFTA has resulted in many industrial firms/plants moving to Mexico for cheaper labour, and the
impact of such actions has cost thousands of Canadians their jobs.
By joining this free trade agreement, Canada has been able to increase its trade with the US and
Mexico. Two decades after the implementation of NAFTA, total merchandise trade between Canada
and the US more than doubled at an annualized growth rate of 4.4%. During the same period, Canada
s merchandise exports to Mexico also increased almost seven fold, and its trade with Mexico equaled
$31 billion alone in the year 2012. Furthermore, a study completed by the Fraser Institute pointed out

Intersection Literature Review
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
2.1 Unsignalized Intersection
Types According to Control
Uncontrolled. Uncontrolled intersection is an intersection that is not controlled by any regulatory sign
or traffic signal from any direction. However, this type of intersection requires the drivers to yield to
any vehicle or pedestrian that is already passing or crossing the road. This type of unsignalized
intersection is created for low volume roads, usually in rural or residential areas (ITE, 2005).
Figure 2 1. Uncontrolled Intersection.
Source: ITE, 2005.
YIELD sign controlled. YIELD sign controlled are intersections controlled only by YIELD signs.
YIELD signs are placed at the entrance of the intersection, usually on minor roads, and are installed
on ramp intersections or Y intersections. YIELD signs require the drivers to reduce the speed of their
vehicles as they pass the intersection (ITE, 2005).

STOP sign controlled. STOP sign controlled intersections are controlled by STOP signs from one or
more directions. STOP signs require full stop of vehicles upon reaching the entrance of the
intersection and they can proceed only if no vehicles are passing from the other directions. This type
of unsignalized intersection can be further categorized into minor road only stop control and multi
way stop control. Minor road only control intersections require at least one direction controlled by a

Executive Order In Texas
The United States Federal Government has different views about abortion. These different views
directly affect the women of America. The President produces an Executive Order. Congress puts a
rider in place and the Courts begin legal abortion in 1973. Executive Order Number 13535 concerning
the Affordable Care Act was ordered by President Obama in 2014. This Act mandated health care for
all Americans and is sometimes called Obama Care. This executive order was to make clear that the
government would not allow us of federal funds for abortion services. The only exception was in case
of incest, rape, or the health of the mother. The order also mentions the Hyde Amendment as one of its
foundations policies that restricts what the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wade) that a women had the right to seek legal abortion and that right was a fundamental right, there
were many debates on the validly of the ruling. In March of 2016, the Supreme Court showed how
divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973. It is not so much if
a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it. Texas put in place a series
of stop measures on abortion by requiring very constricted rules for abortion in that state. In Texas, as
many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the strict rules governing their clinics. The
questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the health of the women and fetus or a way of
stopping abortions altogether. The states cannot help pay for abortions according to the President s
Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the Federal Government is controlling the lives of
women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for
abortions and the government supports the health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States
House of Representatives passed the Hype Amendment. The amendment was presented by Henry
Hyde, a republican from Illinois. Clearly the Hyde Amendment was a victory for the pro life
movement. This amendment has been attached to appropriations bills prohibiting the federal
government from funding abortions. The Hyde Amendment is a rider because it has been attached to
many legislative actions through the years since 1993. Even President Clinton was successful in
changing the wording of Hyde expanding the list of ways that the federal government could use funds
under Medicaid in some states helps low income women receive state help to pay for abortions. More
states are changing, gradually, and are helping women receive safe and affordable abortions. There are
laws have been passed for example the Stupak Pitts Amendment to the

Rhetorical Devices In How I Found Religion
Faith is the belief in a person, thing, or idea without concrete evidence of its certainty. Although in
some arenas, such as science, it is looked down upon, faith is ever presence in people s lives. It takes
faith to belief that a chair will support one s weight. It takes faith to belief that others will fulfill their
promises and responsibilities. John Donne, Robert Fink, and Annie Dillard are three authors who use
faith as a topic for one of their works. The use of rhetorical devices, such as tone and diction, in John
Donne s Meditation 17, Robert Fink s How I Found Religion at a Baseball Game, and Annie Dillard s
An American Childhood contributes to each work s message about faith, the influence of God on the
outlook of life, and the camaraderie found with others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction and metaphors used in John Donne s Meditation 17 and Robert Fink s How I Found
Religion at a Baseball Game creates a solemn tone that gives an impression the writer has had a great
deal of experience like a socratic philosopher. In Meditation 17, Donne writes, ... and therefore never
send to know whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee (Donne 24). He never outright says death or dies in
his essay but only uses words like the bell tolls or buried . The words the bell tolls especially
contributes to the solemn tone of his essay. Church bells in antiquity are only sounded for church
services, marriages, and funerals. They are events that all should be aware off. Donne also uses the
relationship between bells and emotions to contribute to the tone. Church bells used to announce
funerals are usually lower pitched and are one note. That sound is relatable to everyone. Everyone can
assume that the bell tolls signifies

The Challenges Of Diversity In The Film Industry
Diversity in The Film Industry
There is no questioning the fact that diversity is vital to a community; however, the way the film
industry is makes films is forced and feels as if they are simply checking off boxes to create diversity.
This allows a question to be posed: is no diversity better than forced diversity? This is a question that
comes up a lot in the twenty first century and is something that is asked when looking at film. The
film industry before the twenty first century featured very little diversity, and minorities usually
received supporting roles. Diversity has increased in the twenty first century; however, there is still
room for improvement. One criticism of modern film is the lack of true diversity. People believe that
film has been whitewashed or the historical event and cultural practices have been changed to be more
desireable or more easily understood for white audiences. A mild example can be seen in Aloha which
was released in 2015, where the actors casted for asian and hawaiian role were white. An extreme
example can be seen in Birth of a Nation released in 1915, where white actors donned black face paint
and fought against Ku Klux Klan members that were protecting the Aryan cause. The film industry
has moved away from blatant acts of racism and now see diversity as a way to make more money,
rather than a way to represent all races and cultures. Although in the twenty first century film has more
diversity than films before the twenty first

A Study On Sex Education
According to the University of Kansas, historian Jeffrey P. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex, sex
education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for girls and,
separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have viewed
adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex education has mainly
aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually transmitted
diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger ages than usual;
this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Comprehensive sex education classes
are key to our youth to ensure a healthy lifestyle, to obtain a proper education, and to achieve
economic progression. Thus making comprehensive sex education classes more effective than
abstinence only classes.
Abstinence only classes became funded federally in 1996 when Congress passed the landmark
Welfare Reform law. Before then, classes such as Family Life Education, and sexual history were
taught. The Department of Health Science did a study and discovered that the abstinence only classes
were not bringing down the numbers enough to be effective. Now the classes are all evolving into sex
education classes, which teach teenagers safe ways to have sex. The Federal Government has now
stopped all funds of abstinence only classes and started funding sex education classes. The
government is

Censorship Definition Essay
A multitude of countries and organizations use censorship for various reasons. However something
they all have in common is the one providing the censored material does not want the reader or viewer
to know something, whether that be the true state of a country or the real history of a matter.
Censorship is a constant tug a war between two sides for the truth over a subject. This form of
restriction can be observed from the early 1900 s to today s modern times, and can also be seen
worldwide in countries that have little to nothing in common. A vast amount of media is not prohibited
in several countries surrounding the globe. In socialist Venezuela, there is current distress surrounding
the content of student textbooks provided by the government. ... Show more content on

For example in 1930 Nazi Germany, Nazis burned Jewish writers works, Jewish artwork, and pretty
much anything else derived from the Jewish culture. A similar event can be seen in Mosul, recently.
The terrorist group ISIS also known as ISIL, has been engaging in book rades and so far have
damaged ¨three [major] libraries: a Sunni Muslim library, the library of the 265 year old Latin Church
and Monastery of the Dominican Fathers, and the Mosul Museum Library¨ (University of Mosul
history professor). In a Newsela interview with Hakim al Zamili, An Iraqi lawmaker, there is a
potential reason suggested for these violent outbursts these terrorist groups are performing. According
to al Zamili, Islamic State group considers culture, civilization and science as their fierce enemies.
When this is taken into consideration it is obvious why the terrorist group has been acting out and
damaging libraries, due to their housing of books that contain such subjects. Overall governments,
organizations, and those in power often times use censorship in order to shelter or hide things from
people. For example, when a parent is just doing what is best for their kid and doesn t just let them do
whatever they want. There is always a reason, often times thought to be protection. However it could
potentially be more, perhaps manipulation? Whatever may be the reason censorship will remain a
vastly used form of restriction that some may just need to learn to

And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera
...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people. Rivera,
much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although each story
seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted as doing the
exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many. Even though
specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still remained; Chicanos
needed change and they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable techniques Rivera uses
within his novel is the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is centered on an unnamed
male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges from that of a mother
praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient narrator, capable of
entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and even abrupt. However, it was
through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that Rivera was able to not only
showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social change as well as reveal the confusion
and uncertainty of the people themselves. First and foremost, this novel is about Chicano people and
the struggles they endured. While each small passage can be viewed as the progression of the
unknown male protagonist, it also gives a multitude of other views as well. Middle aged male

California Gold Rush of 1848
California Gold Rush of 1848 The California Gold Rush happened January 24th, 1848. James Wilson
Marshall was working one day as usual when he seen a shine from the icy winter water. He thought it
was just a trick of the California sun. Becoming Anxious he then went to go check it out, he found five
shiny nuggets. Marshall went back to his station and hammered the nuggets changing its shape but not
breaking it, he found gold. The founding of gold by Marshall brought prospectors, immigrants, and
new technology to what would be known as the Golden State. People were searching for wealth going
crazy trying to found gold. Before the discovery of Gold in 1848, the majority of the West did not
even belong to the United States. Scientists believe it was a form of the manifest destiny. Before then
they didn t even know gold existed. Very few people made money for finding the gold, they were also
told that if they didn t find any gold it was failure, and failure is a terrible sin.
New immigrants that came to the Golden State were often mistreated. They usually only mistreated
Asians. They were also killing each other to take others gold in the mines. The killing lead to more
people coming. The workers finding the gold were not getting payed the way they should have. The
Gold Rush impacted California s landscape by more farming, mines, even funnels were built. While
needing more money the miners decided to grow and sell wheat from inside of the mines for three

Descriptive Essay About Life
The Transformation
Anywhere you go can create memories, but can also become a part of you in one way or another.
Some of those places may have had an impact on a person s life that changed him or her as a person.
For others, some places may have a special meaning, teaching, or maybe because the best memories
were made in that special place. For me, the best memories and the one place that I always remember
is Woodburn Oregon. This city has so many good, happy, and bad memories that I still remember.
These memories bring back my childhood and how my perspective of life changed. As a young child,
growing up in Woodburn Oregon during the summer, I learned to not only appreciate everything I
have, but to also work hard to be successful.
Woodburn is a very beautiful, happy, and peaceful city that is full of nature. The city is surrounded by
amazing trees, buildings, flowers, parks, and much more. The city also has great restaurants, theaters,
museums and arcades. Woodburn also has amazing views and has great agricultural lands filled with
flowers such as, colorful tulips, and roses. I remember going by a land filled with bright yellow and
red tulips. As I was passing by, I remember smelling the sweet smell of the flowers and the fresh air.
The cold winds would make the flowers move, letting the sweat fragrance out and making the air
smell good. Now everytime I see a tulip, it reminds me of the huge lands filled with tulips. Woodburn

My Favorite Gemstone

red is my favorite color and I loved how pretty it sparkled even in the picture. My grandmother said if

I also discovered when learning more about the Opal that it s not actually a mineral like I previously
thought. It is actually classified as a mineraloid and the different stones are usually contain 6% 10%
water, and 97% of all Opals com from Australia.
I found that there is a myth that was in a novel written by Sir Walter Scott, that claimed Opals were a
stone of bad luck, which is completely false. Quite the opposite in fact, Opals are a luck bringing
stone. They are not just the birthstone of October, Opal is also the traditional 14th wedding
anniversary gift, and is said to be represent the God Cupid. This makes perfect sense since a wedding
anniversary represents a couples union and love, and Cupid unites couples and is the Roman God of
love.
Opals are said to contain the energy of all the elements and can be used in almost all magickal
workings. It amplifies the anything that it s used with and can amplify the energy of the person who
wears this stone during magickal workings. Opals have both projective and receptive energies.
Upon further research the Opal is also used to recall past lives. This is a favored stone for opening the
third eye and a lot of people wear Opal jewelery to help facilitate this. Fire Opals are said

Comparison Of Witchcraft And Wicca
One can be very confused with the modern ideas present today. In fact, a lot of individuals are so
involved in their own lives that they do not even bother to think where these modern popular beliefs
came from. Modern constructs, such as religion, politics, warfare and even the internet all originated
somewhere, and it is important that people know at least a little about the history of something before
completely use it as a part of their everyday life. Take the case of Witchcraft and Wicca: while most
people would probably combine these two in the same area of interest such as witchcraft and spells
with the occasional magical tool such as the voodoo doll, one might be surprised that Wicca is actually
a religion and witchcraft actually originated from the Wiccan movement.
What is Wicca?
Wicca is actually a modern pagan religion, and is concentrated on a more peaceful, harmonious and
balanced way of life. It is actually a belief system that is of pre Christian that is mostly how our
ancestors lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most modern concepts are much more used to the idea that Witchcraft is focused on learning how to
be a witch with the more advanced users learning spells for love and other magic spells that are

synonymous to Witchcraft, most of the time exchanging the two ideas. Fact is, Witchcraft is but a
mere part of the Wiccan religion, and it is a religious belief that focuses on the understanding of an
individual regarding earth and nature which affirms and recognizes the divinity in all living things. It
basically teaches individuals that while external forces matter, it does not constitute to our own being
and therefore is not to be blamed for anything that is happening to us individually. It teaches
responsibility for our actions, therefore ensuring a harmonious balance between the earth and

to believe God is either non existent or non important. Many colonists of early America knew better
than this. They knew that God is the only One they should glorify and worship, and thus they looked
to Him for guidance on their endeavor in the new world. Most of the early American colonists made
God a part of every aspect of their lives, and they wanted to use their lives for His glory.
The colonists created a political system where the people worked together to create laws, and
promised to govern themselves to the glory of God. Their government was by the people because they
all placed themselves under a covenant to each other. In The Mayflower ... Show more content on

Religion was a huge part of their political, educational, and social life because God was very
important to them. In describing the Great Awakening, Jonathan Edwards tells of the result of the
preaching of George Whitefield when Edwards said, Immediately after this, the minds of the people in
general appeared more engaged in religion, showing a greater forwardness to make religion the
subject of their conversation . Most of the colonists wanted to raise their children to know God, and
thus they educated them in their religion. Some of them wanted to honor God in their relationships
and thus they tried to obey what God commanded in Scripture, and treat their brethren as they would
want to be treated. The purpose of starting the colonies was to glorify God and they aimed to glorify
Him with their government as well. The colonists started the colonies, in many cases because they
wanted to give glory to God and often because they wanted to reach the natives and convert them to
the gospel. They wanted to honor Him in their political system and their governing of themselves so
that they could all live together in unity. During the Great Awakening, many of the colonists had their
minds on salvation and this would have caused them to live their lives trying to serve God and thus

Al Qaed Terrorist Groups Essay
Founded by Osama bin Laden around the late 1980 s, one of the largest, most terrifying, terrorist
groups known worldwide is the Islamist organization, Al Qaeda.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, Jayshree Bajoria and Greg Bruno examine Al Qaeda
as an international terrorist network that seeks to free Muslim countries of profane influence, and
replace governments with fundamentalist Islamic regimes. Originating back to around 1988, Al Qaeda
grew out of a Service Office, run by Osama bin Laden and Abdullah Azzam. The Services Office
would recruit international Muslims from more than fifty countries, training, and financing them into
foreign mujahedeen and holy warriors. Although Al Qaeda does not operate at a single headquarters,
the bases of all operations are constructed either within Afghanistan, Pakistan or along the boarder
(par. 2, 3, 4). Known as one of the most notorious terrorist groups in the world, Al Qaeda is considered
a terrorist group because of their ideologues and goals, along with their extreme use of violence.
Forming as an effort to support Muslims against the Soviets in the Afghanistan war, developed a
strong hatred towards non Islamic governments. As a growing organization, Al Qaeda maintained
officers in countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States. The FBI s Testimony on Al
Qaeda presented by J.T Caruso reveals that US citizens were recruited through the Western world to
engage in financial transactions and to deliver

Thoth Research Paper
The gods and goddesses of Greek culture correlate with those of other ancient polytheistic cultures.
Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, war and weaving, and one of the few female wisdom gods
in ancient cultures (Cartwright 1). In Mesopotamian culture, the goddess of wisdom, arts, crafts and
magic was known as Ea or Enki (Mark, Enki 1). Thoth was the Egyptian god of wisdom, magic, and
writing. Egyptians considered him one of the most important gods of their culture (Mark, Thoth 1).
They are all the centers of knowledge in their respective spiritual worlds, but Athena also uses her
wisdom to assist the people in battle and to help them fight strategically. The gods and goddesses of
wisdom had individual characteristics that distinguished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Thoth, the Egyptian God, was born from the forehead of Set, a leader among the Egyptian
gods. Unlike Athena, Thoth created himself through the Seed of Horus before erupting from Set
(Mark, Thoth 1). Enki was born, unlike the others, in the usual manner. His parents were the Sun God,
Anu and Namunu, the mother goddess (Mark, Enki 3). Athena and Thoth s birth from the head
symbolize their wisdom and focus on knowledge. Athena s physical appearance contradicts that of
Thoth, but is comparable to that of Enki. Athena s femininity distinguish her from the other gods of
wisdom. She, like the other Greek gods, has the body and appearance of a human being, but her
beauty outshadowed those of the humans. Enki had wings and a long beard, but otherwise has a
human figure. He looked as though he was an elderly philosopher, which was fitting because he was
the holder of all knowledge in the Mesopotamian culture. Thoth s head was that of a blue bird, and his
body was muscular. He did not have human beauty and was known for being inhumanly strong. The
masters of wisdom s beauty and grace reveal that they are more than human, even if they appear as
though they are merely mortal

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Ugly Tourist
Rhetorical Analysis of The Ugly Tourist Daily, hundreds of thousands of people are traveling, whether
it s by plane, car, bus, boat, or foot, people are traveling to new locations and being immersed in
different cultures. Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists
are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten
those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author
Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries
to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the
audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory
emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To
begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by
painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd,
they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is
to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and
alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to
escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making
the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer
countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do
not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid
restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid
thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your
strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are
not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places,

Analysis Of Snake And The Snake
Snake and The Snake
Fred Min
Snake by D.H. Lawrence
1. Emotional fear within oneself is a common foundation that dictates the reaction in relation to
certain situations, such as the presence of a snake. In D.H. Lawrence s Snake , the emotions of
fascination and intense hospitality, although dysfunctional, heavily takes precedence over fear. The
two factors of morality or education also plays a key role in Lawrence s internal conflict. This is
clearly presented in the text by the description of the author s initial reaction to the encounter of the
snake. Rather than running away in terror or forcing it to flee, D.H. Lawrence like a second comer
waited. Not only did he wait, he observed the undulating snake with a deeply consuming curiosity;
essentially in hopes to discover an idiosyncratic trait that would reassure himself that this was no
ordinary snake. However this did not stop Lawrence s conscious to pursue mental control, explaining
how voices in me said, if you were a man/ You would take a stick and break him now, and finish him
off . The quote refers to the way the traditional reaction would have affected his actions and also how
his education often attempts to strike fear away. If you were not afraid you would kill him . Lawrence
further endeavored away from the traditional reaction by feeling honoured still more/ That he should
seek my hospitality .
2. In stanza 12 of the Snake , D.H. Lawrence describes with great lucid detail the god like

Figurative Language In The Crossing By Cormac Mccarthy
In the passage from the novel The Crossing, the narrator describes a dramatic experience in which he
is handleing a wolf after it s passing and chooses to wait throughout the cold night to properly bury it
come morning. Cormac McCarthy uses techniques such as point of view, sentence structure, figurative
language, and imagery to convey the impact of the experience on the main character. In the first part
of the passage the narrator focuses on the man s action, characterizing the man by what he does rather
than by his thoughts or observations. There are many run on sentences, and the pace of the excerpt
fluctuates, alternating from short detached sentences such as He squatted over the wolf and touched
her fur. He touched the cold and perfect teeth. (40 41) to unusually long ones which use the
conjunction and . The use of the word and punctuates the main character s deliberate actions
throughout the passage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character sits in the woods, cold and shivering in the dark, and he builds a fire for self
preservation from the cold wooded climate. The only sound he hears are the cries of the coyotes
whose cries seemed to have no origin other than the night itself (13 14). The figurative language used
helps to show the desolation the man is facing. The man fell asleep with his hands up before him like a
dozing penitent (30 31), which suggests that he was feeling some degree of guilt or responsibility for
the wolf s death. This shows the reader that the man wants to bury the wolf out of reverence and
appreciation of it s

Contemporary Sociological Theory Reviewed Essay
1. Our understanding of contemporary capitalist culture and globalization has been greatly influenced
by neo Marxism. There have been many significant events all over the world such as the Great
Depression, The Second World War which have contributed to our understanding of contemporary
capitalist culture. There has been a false consciousness associated with this time and date since
capitalism continues to deliver the goods (Adams Sydie, 2002: 90). The beginning of the end of
capitalist conflict and the beginning of the beginning of socialism came with the U.S. economic and
military dominance after 1945 and also, on the other side of the coin, the Stalinist model of socialist
development failed to live up to it s own Marxist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They noted that the class structures of these societies were products of neo imperialism. The
domination is achieved through investment, the control of technological expertise, money through the
World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The term Monopoly Capitalism covers all of those
aspects. Wallerstein proposed an analytic framework. He felt he was conducting world system analysis
and not writing world system theory. He believed there were three factors which were essential when
establishing a world economy. First, he saw an expansion of the geographical size of the world in
question. Second, the development of variegated methods of labor control for different products and
different zones of the world economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in
what would become the core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the
core, periphery and the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive
activities. The periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources.
The semi periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with
independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein identifies
three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery. First he talks about seizing the chance.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Settling In Charles Town
The Difficulties of Settling In Charles Town Many explorers came to South Carolina, but many failed
to build a safe settlement for citizens to live on. The English were the big dogs in town, and were the
first people to build a successful colony in South Carolina named Charles Town. The Spanish were the
first people to explore South Carolina and they wanted to build their own settlement, but failed many
times due to lack of knowledge of the land. So, the English took over and then they built the first
settlement in South Carolina. Settling is the act of building a new way of life for yourself or others.
Why was it so difficult to settle Charles Town? The difficulties of settling in Charles Town were
geography, different resources, diseases, and Native Americans. In South Carolina, the terrain had its
advantages and disadvantages. One obstacle that a cartographer had was the lack of knowledge of ...

Infact, this state has some of the most finest soil in the world. The settlers found, according to
Document A, extraordinary rich soil. This soil was healthy and made it easy for the settlers to farm.

comes hungry predators, which with all of that combined, creates destruction throughout the land.
South Carolina consisted of many predators, such as, Panthers, Tigers, Wolves, and other Beast of
Prey according to Document C. These animals made it difficult to settle because, these animals stirred

Document C, we were awaken d with the dismall st and most hideous Noise that ever pierc d my Ears

Hitler Good Vs Evil
The concept of Good and Evil is prevalent in a lot of religious traditions and customs all around the
world, Inside of the Book of Genesis, God s goodness was first presented. In our generation in the
modern world we live in, it has been agreed that there are no clear black or white answers for anything
in the world. Relating to/about a personal opinion or belief, there will be no clear answer. In the Book
of Beginning/creation, that was when God s goodness was first presented to us. God himself created
the whole world and he sees it as good. Human beings were also created to be good, but of course
there will always be the option to disobey being good. When evil, which is represented by the snake,
comes to town. The snake wants Adam and Eve to go against God and what he s all about. Adam and
Eve choose what is false, or evil, over what they know to be true, or good. Some people believe that as
a result of Adam and Eve s first sins, each human is born with a habit/desire towards evil. This is
called Original Sin. Many events show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is, then, a broad field which, to add to the confusion, also goes under several different names, some of which you will encounter when reading texts on the subject. The two main areas are generally called Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organisational Behaviour (OB), but the field is also sometimes called Organisational Analysis (OA), Behaviour in Organisations (BinO), Organisation Studies (OS), and a host of other names, including the practitioner area called Organisational Development (OD). There are, in fact, subtle nuances and variations in emphasis denoted by the different labels. OB and HRM, for example, are both concerned generally with people at work , although they focus on different levels of analysis. Roughly speaking, HRM is mostly concerned with individual and group issues, drawing principally, but not exclusively, from psychology, whereas OB tends to focus on organisational factors such as structure, design and culture, having its main theoretical base in A recent example is Chaos Theory, taken from mathematics and physics and ... With conflict between two parties ,in which on in others eyes own the other, conflict is very expected, and it may be because of the music industry itself where everyone is pretty much in it for the pay. As shown by the falling outs in the last paragraph, artist and record label fight can arise from the simplest of issues. And to solve this unnecessary brawl between companies and artists, artist need to do three simple things: review the contract with a reliable manager so you won t be betrayed or falsified on who get what; understand the pay structure so you will not be cut short, payed under your agreement, or be payed to much; and acknowledge the particular structure of an age group or audience your record label is targeting. Although at times his actions were deemed improbable and insane nevertheless, they were effective. Life of Mohatama Gandhi;his goals he accomplish for freedom for South Africa; and how Mohatama finally obtained freedom for India. Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi, was born in the present state of Gujarat on October 2, 1869. He was educated in law at University College, London. In 1932, Gandhi began a new civil disobedience method against Britain. Gandhi was arrested twice, then fasted for long periods of time. These fasts were effective against the British because if Gandhi dies all of India would have revolted against Britain. In 1934 Gandhi completely resigned from politics and was replaced by a leader of the Congress party named Jawaharlal Nehru. Gandhi then travelled across India teaching passive resistance. In 1939, Gandhi returned to political life because of the federation of Indian principalities with the rest of India. He then decided he would force the ruler of the state to modify his autocratic rule. Gandhi fasted until his demands were met. When World War II broke out, Congress and Gandhi demanded that a declaration of war aims and their application to India. Due to the unsatisfactory response from the British the party decided not to support Britain in the war unless the country was granted independence. The British again refused only offering compromises, which were rejected by the party. • 5. A Brazilian Concert Review I attended a Brazilian concert named Choro das 3 on April 11,2016 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church. I was expecting this musical to sound very festive, fun and relaxing. The instrumental group consisted of three sisters and their father. Elisa played the Brazilian mandolin, banjo, and the clarinet. She also writes and performs on the piano. Lia holds the harmony while she played the seven string guitar. Their father, Eduardo, gave us the rhythm with the frame drum. Corina doubled n the piccolo. The music I was exposed to doing the performance was Debussy called Fascia lee played by the piano. I was not able to get the rest of the composer s entire names that were mentioned in this performance due to their accents. What I liked about this performance was that it was family oriented and they seemed very close and support each other in every move they make. However, I did not find anything I did not like about this performance each selection was very beautiful. They took there time to make sure every instrument was tuned right. The musical element that I would change is the tone. They all sound alike to me but had different endings and I would change that to make it better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Nafta And The American Free Trade Agreement On January 1st, 1994, Canada, the United States of America, and Mexico had signed a free trade agreement, under the name the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This Free Trade Agreement was created to achieve its goal of eliminating barriers to trade and investment between Canada, Mexico and the United States of America. However, the question that politicians and economists of our nation are facing is whether Canada should remain in NAFTA with its partners, United States and Mexico. Despite a multitude of benefits that NAFTA is said to have by our political elites, 20 years later, it is evident the agreement has been counterproductive; which is evident by the slow move by Canadian manufacturers to Mexico, significant losses in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1997, three years after the ratification of NAFTA, 47% of Canadian manufacturing plants that existed in 1988, which accounted for 28% of the jobs in the economy, had closed. To add on, 350,000 manufacturing jobs from 2002 2008, were lost due to industrial plants moving to Mexico. This drastic drop in factory/plant numbers can be attributed to the fact that companies put their bottom line first moving facilities to Mexico because Mexican minimum wage is only $5.10 compared to a minimum wage of $11.00 in Ontario. As a further incentive to relocate south, because of NAFTA, corporations don t have to pay tariffs on products shipped back to domestic markets. Therefore, it is evident that NAFTA has resulted in many industrial firms/plants moving to Mexico for cheaper labour, and the impact of such actions has cost thousands of Canadians their jobs. By joining this free trade agreement, Canada has been able to increase its trade with the US and Mexico. Two decades after the implementation of NAFTA, total merchandise trade between Canada and the US more than doubled at an annualized growth rate of 4.4%. During the same period, Canada s merchandise exports to Mexico also increased almost seven fold, and its trade with Mexico equaled $31 billion alone in the year 2012. • 7. Intersection Literature Review REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE 2.1 Unsignalized Intersection Types According to Control Uncontrolled. Uncontrolled intersection is an intersection that is not controlled by any regulatory sign or traffic signal from any direction. However, this type of intersection requires the drivers to yield to any vehicle or pedestrian that is already passing or crossing the road. This type of unsignalized intersection is created for low volume roads, usually in rural or residential areas (ITE, 2005). Figure 2 1. Uncontrolled Intersection. Source: ITE, 2005. YIELD sign controlled. YIELD sign controlled are intersections controlled only by YIELD signs. YIELD signs are placed at the entrance of the intersection, usually on minor roads, and are installed on ramp intersections or Y intersections. YIELD signs require the drivers to reduce the speed of their vehicles as they pass the intersection (ITE, 2005). Figure 2 2. YIELD sign controlled Intersection. Source: ITE, 2005. STOP sign controlled. STOP sign controlled intersections are controlled by STOP signs from one or more directions. STOP signs require full stop of vehicles upon reaching the entrance of the intersection and they can proceed only if no vehicles are passing from the other directions. This type of unsignalized intersection can be further categorized into minor road only stop control and multi way stop control. • 9. Executive Order In Texas The United States Federal Government has different views about abortion. These different views directly affect the women of America. The President produces an Executive Order. Congress puts a rider in place and the Courts begin legal abortion in 1973. Executive Order Number 13535 concerning the Affordable Care Act was ordered by President Obama in 2014. This Act mandated health care for all Americans and is sometimes called Obama Care. This executive order was to make clear that the government would not allow us of federal funds for abortion services. The only exception was in case of incest, rape, or the health of the mother. Wade) that a women had the right to seek legal abortion and that right was a fundamental right, there were many debates on the validly of the ruling. In March of 2016, the Supreme Court showed how divided the court is when it comes to abortion which they made legal back in 1973. It is not so much if a woman has the right to an abortion as it5 is who pays or helps pay for it. Texas put in place a series of stop measures on abortion by requiring very constricted rules for abortion in that state. In Texas, as many as twenty legal abortion clinics were closed due to the strict rules governing their clinics. The questions for the Supreme Court is if these rules are for the health of the women and fetus or a way of stopping abortions altogether. The states cannot help pay for abortions according to the President s Executive Order which is another issue. Again, the Federal Government is controlling the lives of women by citing the Affordable Care Act or ACA and court rulings. Health Insurance does not pay for abortions and the government supports the health industry. September 30, 1976 the United States House of Representatives passed the Hype Amendment. The amendment was presented by Henry Hyde, a republican from Illinois. Clearly the Hyde Amendment was a victory for the pro life movement. This amendment has been attached to appropriations bills prohibiting the federal government from funding abortions. The Hyde Amendment is a rider because it has been attached to many legislative actions through the years since 1993. Even President Clinton was successful in changing the wording of Hyde expanding the list of ways that the federal government could use funds under Medicaid in some states helps low income women receive state help to pay for abortions. More states are changing, gradually, and are helping women receive safe and affordable abortions. There are laws have been passed for example the Stupak Pitts Amendment to the ... • 10. Rhetorical Devices In How I Found Religion Faith is the belief in a person, thing, or idea without concrete evidence of its certainty. Although in some arenas, such as science, it is looked down upon, faith is ever presence in people s lives. It takes faith to belief that a chair will support one s weight. It takes faith to belief that others will fulfill their promises and responsibilities. John Donne, Robert Fink, and Annie Dillard are three authors who use faith as a topic for one of their works. The use of rhetorical devices, such as tone and diction, in John Donne s Meditation 17, Robert Fink s How I Found Religion at a Baseball Game, and Annie Dillard s An American Childhood contributes to each work s message about faith, the influence of God on the outlook of life, and the camaraderie found with others. ... He never outright says death or dies in his essay but only uses words like the bell tolls or buried . The words the bell tolls especially contributes to the solemn tone of his essay. Church bells in antiquity are only sounded for church services, marriages, and funerals. They are events that all should be aware off. Donne also uses the relationship between bells and emotions to contribute to the tone. Church bells used to announce funerals are usually lower pitched and are one note. That sound is relatable to everyone. Everyone can assume that the bell tolls signifies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Challenges Of Diversity In The Film Industry Diversity in The Film Industry There is no questioning the fact that diversity is vital to a community; however, the way the film industry is makes films is forced and feels as if they are simply checking off boxes to create diversity. This allows a question to be posed: is no diversity better than forced diversity? This is a question that comes up a lot in the twenty first century and is something that is asked when looking at film. The film industry before the twenty first century featured very little diversity, and minorities usually received supporting roles. Diversity has increased in the twenty first century; however, there is still room for improvement. One criticism of modern film is the lack of true diversity. People believe that film has been whitewashed or the historical event and cultural practices have been changed to be more desireable or more easily understood for white audiences. A mild example can be seen in Aloha which was released in 2015, where the actors casted for asian and hawaiian role were white. An extreme example can be seen in Birth of a Nation released in 1915, where white actors donned black face paint and fought against Ku Klux Klan members that were protecting the Aryan cause. The film industry has moved away from blatant acts of racism and now see diversity as a way to make more money, rather than a way to represent all races and cultures. Although in the twenty first century film has more diversity than films before the twenty first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. A Study On Sex Education According to the University of Kansas, historian Jeffrey P. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex, sex education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for girls and, separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have viewed adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex education has mainly aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger ages than usual; this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Comprehensive sex education classes are key to our youth to ensure a healthy lifestyle, to obtain a proper education, and to achieve economic progression. Thus making comprehensive sex education classes more effective than abstinence only classes. Abstinence only classes became funded federally in 1996 when Congress passed the landmark Welfare Reform law. Before then, classes such as Family Life Education, and sexual history were taught. The Department of Health Science did a study and discovered that the abstinence only classes were not bringing down the numbers enough to be effective. Now the classes are all evolving into sex education classes, which teach teenagers safe ways to have sex. The Federal Government has now stopped all funds of abstinence only classes and started funding sex education classes. The government is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However something they all have in common is the one providing the censored material does not want the reader or viewer to know something, whether that be the true state of a country or the real history of a matter. Censorship is a constant tug a war between two sides for the truth over a subject. This form of restriction can be observed from the early 1900 s to today s modern times, and can also be seen worldwide in countries that have little to nothing in common. A vast amount of media is not prohibited in several countries surrounding the globe. In socialist Venezuela, there is current distress surrounding the content of student textbooks provided by the government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a Newsela interview with Hakim al Zamili, An Iraqi lawmaker, there is a potential reason suggested for these violent outbursts these terrorist groups are performing. According to al Zamili, Islamic State group considers culture, civilization and science as their fierce enemies. When this is taken into consideration it is obvious why the terrorist group has been acting out and damaging libraries, due to their housing of books that contain such subjects. Overall governments, organizations, and those in power often times use censorship in order to shelter or hide things from people. For example, when a parent is just doing what is best for their kid and doesn t just let them do whatever they want. There is always a reason, often times thought to be protection. • 14. And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera ...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people. Rivera, much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although each story seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted as doing the exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many. Even though specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still remained; Chicanos needed change and they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable techniques Rivera uses within his novel is the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is centered on an unnamed male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges from that of a mother praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient narrator, capable of entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and even abrupt. However, it was through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that Rivera was able to not only showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social change as well as reveal the confusion and uncertainty of the people themselves. Some of those places may have had an impact on a person s life that changed him or her as a person. For others, some places may have a special meaning, teaching, or maybe because the best memories were made in that special place. For me, the best memories and the one place that I always remember is Woodburn Oregon. This city has so many good, happy, and bad memories that I still remember. These memories bring back my childhood and how my perspective of life changed. As a young child, growing up in Woodburn Oregon during the summer, I learned to not only appreciate everything I have, but to also work hard to be successful. Woodburn is a very beautiful, happy, and peaceful city that is full of nature. The city is surrounded by amazing trees, buildings, flowers, parks, and much more. The city also has great restaurants, theaters, museums and arcades. Woodburn also has amazing views and has great agricultural lands filled with flowers such as, colorful tulips, and roses. I remember going by a land filled with bright yellow and red tulips. As I was passing by, I remember smelling the sweet smell of the flowers and the fresh air. The cold winds would make the flowers move, letting the sweat fragrance out and making the air smell good. Now everytime I see a tulip, it reminds me of the huge lands filled with tulips. I found that there is a myth that was in a novel written by Sir Walter Scott, that claimed Opals were a stone of bad luck, which is completely false. Quite the opposite in fact, Opals are a luck bringing stone. They are not just the birthstone of October, Opal is also the traditional 14th wedding anniversary gift, and is said to be represent the God Cupid. This makes perfect sense since a wedding anniversary represents a couples union and love, and Cupid unites couples and is the Roman God of love. Many colonists of early America knew better than this. They knew that God is the only One they should glorify and worship, and thus they looked to Him for guidance on their endeavor in the new world. Most of the early American colonists made God a part of every aspect of their lives, and they wanted to use their lives for His glory. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, Jayshree Bajoria and Greg Bruno examine Al Qaeda as an international terrorist network that seeks to free Muslim countries of profane influence, and replace governments with fundamentalist Islamic regimes. Originating back to around 1988, Al Qaeda grew out of a Service Office, run by Osama bin Laden and Abdullah Azzam. The Services Office would recruit international Muslims from more than fifty countries, training, and financing them into foreign mujahedeen and holy warriors. Although Al Qaeda does not operate at a single headquarters, the bases of all operations are constructed either within Afghanistan, Pakistan or along the boarder (par. 2, 3, 4). His parents were the Sun God, Anu and Namunu, the mother goddess (Mark, Enki 3). Athena and Thoth s birth from the head symbolize their wisdom and focus on knowledge. Athena s physical appearance contradicts that of Thoth, but is comparable to that of Enki. Athena s femininity distinguish her from the other gods of wisdom. • 24. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Ugly Tourist Rhetorical Analysis of The Ugly Tourist Daily, hundreds of thousands of people are traveling, whether it s by plane, car, bus, boat, or foot, people are traveling to new locations and being immersed in different cultures. Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd, they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places, Kincaid ... • 25. Analysis Of Snake And The Snake Snake and The Snake Fred Min Snake by D.H. Lawrence 1. Emotional fear within oneself is a common foundation that dictates the reaction in relation to certain situations, such as the presence of a snake. In D.H. Lawrence s Snake , the emotions of fascination and intense hospitality, although dysfunctional, heavily takes precedence over fear. The two factors of morality or education also plays a key role in Lawrence s internal conflict. This is clearly presented in the text by the description of the author s initial reaction to the encounter of the snake. Rather than running away in terror or forcing it to flee, D.H. Lawrence like a second comer waited. Not only did he wait, he observed the undulating snake with a deeply consuming curiosity; essentially in hopes to discover an idiosyncratic trait that would reassure himself that this was no ordinary snake. However this did not stop Lawrence s conscious to pursue mental control, explaining how voices in me said, if you were a man/ You would take a stick and break him now, and finish him off . The quote refers to the way the traditional reaction would have affected his actions and also how his education often attempts to strike fear away. If you were not afraid you would kill him . Lawrence further endeavored away from the traditional reaction by feeling honoured still more/ That he should seek my hospitality . 2. In stanza 12 of the Snake , D.H. He believed there were three factors which were essential when establishing a world economy. First, he saw an expansion of the geographical size of the world in question. Second, the development of variegated methods of labor control for different products and different zones of the world economy, and Third, the creation of relatively strong state machineries in what would become the core states of this capitalist world economy (121). Wallerstein identifies the core, periphery and the semi periphery. The core is the economic interest which control productive activities. The periphery is the opposite of the core. The core controls all of the periphery s resources. The semi periphery is the mid point between the core and the periphery. It serves as a gray zone with independent capital yet is dependent on the core for much of it s infrastructure. Wallerstein identifies three means for moving from periphery to a semi periphery.
