Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work
Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if
the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the
earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly
$800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when
selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes
all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically
alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study
as well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non
experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore,
even the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not
result in causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was
an experiment that took individuals with long term employment problems and randomly assigned
them to either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that
these job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of
the study supported that. They showed that on average the earnings of the treated group after

The Upper Rio Grande Essay
The Upper Rio Grande
Change is an unavoidable part of life. For some, change can bring promise and a new beginning. For
others, change disrupts what is routine and normal and makes what is new seem strange and
unfamiliar. The history of North America has been shaped by change ever since Columbus first
discovered the continent in 1492. With that discovery, the continent would never be the same again.
More specifically, the Native American tribes who first inhabited this continent would never be the
same.
Over the years the Native Americans would see new explorers and missionaries take over the land that
was once theirs and claim it for another country. The traditions, customs, and culture of these Native
Americans inevitably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, this paper will give an overview of the native people of the Upper Rio Grande during the 19th
century and their interaction with the rest of New Mexico.
From 1598 1606, Don Juan de Orate colonized the Rio Grande area. The Spanish settlers came with
more than just colonization on their minds. Orate and his men were hoping the area would prove to be
a huge resource of gold and other valuable resources. Meanwhile, Spanish missionaries brought
Christianity to the Indians (White, 6).
Orate entered the area now known as New Mexico with a group made up of 130 families, 276 single
men, 83 wagons and carts, 11 Franciscan Friars (and) 7,000 cattle herded by drovers on foot (Horgan,
161). At a celebration of the settlement, Orate asserted what he believed was a rightful claim to the
land that was already occupied by Pueblo Indians. Before kneeling at a cross and asking God for the
successful conversion of the native people, he said I take possession . . .of the lands of the said Rio
Grande, without exception whatsoever, with all its meadows and pasture grounds and passes . . . and
all its native Indians (Horgan, 165). The Spanish did not take no for an answer.
They took supplies from the Indians; sometimes paying for them, sometimes not. They were ruthless.
Within a year of Onate s speech, the Indians showed their disapproval of the arrangement as

Exile In Jane Eyre
Abandoned, abused, alone three terrible words in today s culture, especially when grouped together. In
her classic novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte crafts a character that is all of these; however, Jane Eyre
is able to overcome all the difficulties of her childhood. Throughout the character of Jane Eyre,
Charlotte Bronte reveals even when left abandoned, abused, alone and exiled from familiar
surroundings, one can still discover happiness in a life of one s own.
At a young age, Jane learns to recognize joy in the little moments of her life, even while being abused
and later exiled. During the time that she lives with her aunt, Jane is often excluded from the family
circle around the fire, or condemned to eat her meals alone (Bronte 13,

The Kosta Bros Case Analysis
Question 1 The Kosta Bros Seafood has experienced a series of changes to become one of the most
influential seafood companies in Australia and Southeast Asia. It started with George s effort as a sole
trader when he emigrated from Greece to seek for huge opportunity. In 1950s, his two brothers came
to assist him. They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal assets were used as
securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They agreed to be individually
liable for business s entire debt. In 1980s, Perth was experiencing the mineral boom and the economy
grew tremendously. The Kosta Bros could be able to expand more rapidly as the city was invested
heavily. Thus, it became a company, which was defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten years later, the business becomes a countrywide company and there are currently 70 shareholders.
Thus, an unlisted public company was achieved at this stage . The Board of Directors would like to
change the entity structure from the ambition of penetrating into new markets and raising more funds.
They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a large proprietary company. Under CA
2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined when there are less than 51 non employee
shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders existing in the company. Also, it did not raise funds
from the public since most of the capital was obtained from the interest bearing debt provided by
major banks. Thus, the company was a proprietary company. When we are evaluating the size of a
company using CA 2001 s45A (2)*, Kosta Bros employed 85 EFT staffs, which were greater than 50*;
the gross assets obtained were $19m, which were greater than $12.5m; the gross operating revenue
was $20m, which was less than $25. When two of three thresholds are achieved, the proprietary
company is regarded as large*. In 2013, the company becomes an unlisted public company because it
has 70 shareholders, which are greater than 51. Due to the ambition of the Board of Directors, the
company would like to seek for new strategies and expand its market. It intends to be listed

The Iroquois Culture
We place you upon those seats, spread soft with the feathery down of the globe thistle, there beneath
the shade of the spreading branches of the Tree of Peace (Dekanawida 49). The Iroquois use a tree to
symbolize their binding law and peaceful constitution.
The Iroquois tribe has been around since before the 1500 s. Their stories have been passed down and
interpreted in many ways, to which I have learned about in American Literature.
The culture of the Iroquois mostly revolved in their tribes and clans. The women owned all property
and determined kinship. So, the children a woman has, take her name and clan. Founded around 1570,
the Iroquois Confederacy brought nearly 200 years of peace and prosperity to the five Iroquois nations

What Is A Tent Foot
What is a tent foot? What you need to know.
Have you ever struggled to understand what a tent footprint is? Or have you ever struggled to
understand why people need tent foots?
We ll I m here to answer that. I think that it is important to know what a tent foot is because it is such a
useful tool when camping, that it can save the underneath of your tent from damage while you are
camping.
So what is a tent footprint, really?
Think of a tent footprint like the foundation of the tent. What this tent foot does is it protects the
underneath of your tent from any wear and tear.
Normally, tent foot s come attached to the tent itself so you don t necessarily have to worry about
buying a new one. However, many tents are waterproof underneath. ... Show more content on

Believe it or not, when you are doing the tossing and turning, you are causing abrasions on the ground
material of the tent.
Over time, the friction from those abrasions will tear the underneath of the tent apart.
Are there any other uses for the tent foot?
Tent footprints can be used as a form of insulation underneath your tent. When the tent foot is
underneath your tent, the tent foot will trap warm air underneath your tent to provide you warmth for
as long as possible.
The tent footprint also makes sure that packing up the tent is as easy as possible. Since the tent itself
will be on top of the tent footprint, the tent will stay dry underneath. That means that you don t have to
spend as much time cleaning the tent before packing up.
One other way that tent footprints can help, other than protecting the tent from damage, is by helping
you place your corners of the tent. When you buy your tent, the tent foot will nearly be the exact
dimension as the tent footprint.
As for the waterproofing; just because some tents are waterproof, doesn t mean that a tent footprint
cannot add an extra waterproofing layer underneath the tent. It is generally a good idea to have as
many extra layers of water

The Terrible Corruption Of The Medieval Church
In other words, the Pardoner preached his sermons on greed as to guilt those who listened into being
more generous with their money so he could satisfy his own greed. Chaucer gave this excellent
example of the terrible corruption of the medieval Church in Canterbury Tales. The Middle Ages
spanned from the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD through the beginning of the Renaissance. This
was a period of great hypocrisy and darkness within the Church and its leaders. The corruption of the
Church during the Middle Ages can be studied by exploring the effects of the Black Plague, the
resulting corruption within the church, the unbiblical practices that came about, and those who
recognized the corruption and fought to expose it.

Perpetrators: Throughout history, there have been many popes who have promoted these unethical
practices. Pope Boniface VIII is one of the most well known corrupted popes. After making his way
up to the position of pope in 1294, Boniface began his tyrannical leadership. He was in favor of papal
authority which was the belief that the pope has ultimate authority over the whole church and can
exercise it unhindered at any time (Bonsor, Roos). He also felt that he was the supreme authority over
not just the church, but over the emperor as well. Boniface abused his power, waging wars, leading
conquests, and collecting riches for himself. He also feuded for many years with King Philip IV
because he believed the church should not be taxed. Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet, was a personal
enemy of Boniface because he believed that the emperor and pope should share equally distributed
power between them. He also condemned Boniface s participation in simony. Later, Boniface s
careless actions resulted in Dante s exile; therefore, Dante reserved a place for Pope Boniface VIII in
the eighth circle of hell in his work Inferno for his disgraceful acts against him and the church. In
addition to the damage Pope Boniface VIII caused the medieval church, Pope Alexander VI further
contributed to the Church s downfall.

Dracula And Gothic Essay
The Gothic genre does suppress vulnerable women. They are exploited in order to please the
tyrannical male and feed his desires. When the women is no longer of use, she is then discarded. The
Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his
power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in
time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year
Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage .
Bram Stoker feared the decline of the patriarchal figure and could have created Dracula as an attempt

that want her , due to her low morals and her naivety towards the way a women was expected to act it

unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only
refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he
would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had
minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a
patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she
could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers
use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is
accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her

My Papa Knultz Analysis
Battered Knuckles While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate
academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the
poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reflect back to his
sentimental memories with his father. In brief, Roethke leaves the audience with an unclear
understanding of what the meaning of the poem is. In discussions of My Papa s Waltz, one
controversial issue is the father casually plays with the son. On the other hand, some readers argue that
the father is abusing his son straightforwardly. However, after contemplating the context of the poem
and gathering information from the text, it has become undeniably clear that the poem is about the
father abusing his son. Ultimately, Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to illustrate a picture of his
nostalgic remembrance for the readers. The authors controversial poem becomes clear when one
carefully examines the context of the poem. In stanza one, line one, Roethke describes the papa in the
poem as having whiskey on [his] breath. This line illuminates the idea of the father being intoxicated;
hence, can lead to a change in behavior. Further, the change in behavior can be the cause of violence
towards the child in the poem. Coincidentally, Roethke s father dies in 1923 at the age of 52; thirty
eight years later Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz, roughly at 52 years of age. The

Eassy On Smoking
1.0 Introduction
Tobacco is a major contributor to deaths from chronic diseases . Tobacco is the world s single most
avoidable cause of death and illness. By the end of the twentieth century, cigarettes killed
approximately five million people annually worldwide and tobacco is expected to take the lives of
nearly one half of the world s 1.1 billion current users. It is predicted that during the first quarter
century, the number of smokers will increase by a half billion, and the number of annual tobacco
related deaths will more than triple to 10 million, with developing countries suffering the greatest
impact. The annual death toll is projected to increase several fold in low income countries by the year
2020, and Pakistan is no exception. Although the Government of Pakistan in 1997 identified smoking
as one of the leading causes of mortality, it remains one of the most serious public health challenges.
Smoking is strongly associated with age, which may suggest social tolerance to smoking in this setting
and that social and educational variables appear to play a significant role in smoking among
universities students. According to research universities and college students on tobacco use, indicated
that more than half of the students used a tobacco product. Nowadays the prevalence of smoking
continues to increase especially among the younger age students. Tobacco smoking is a major risk
factor for non communicable diseases such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, chronic

Modern Feminism In the NBC, television show Park and Recreation, Pie Mary , Ben Knope declares,
I m sorry, this whole thing makes me queasy. I love how independent my wife is and because of that I
will not let her speak. That came out wrong. The point is, Leslie is a great mother, public servant all

Over a century ago, women embraced their rights and independence as equals to men. Since the
United States passed the 19th amendment (allowed women to legally vote) with pride and happiness
to achieve what they desire without the obligation to a man s property or his strict previous
perspective of the ideal women. As time passed, something changed and women no longer admired
and praise for their independence, but instead objective to those norms as seen above with Leslie.
Nowadays, women are judged for not embodying the vision of the ideal woman housewife and
housemother. As a result of this, women yearned for more purpose in life, rather than restricted to the
societal norms which defined women worthiness, or the capability of women. Women are beginning to
become more independent, breadwinners, and in general, taking the roles of standard male figures. As
a result, society is beginning to discourage women for their hard work, instead of encouraging women
as a whole to continue to strive for better. Going back before culture was established. In the

Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Analysis
It is no new information that God tends to take the ordinary people out of their normal lives and make
something great out of them. This is exactly what happened to Stephen Kumalo in the book Cry, the
Beloved Country by Alan Paton. It is those are are broken and imperfect that God sees something
special through. Taking these people out of their brokenness and make the world better through them.
Like all the other ordinary people that got brought up by God, Stephen Kumalo s journey was no
different. He lived an ordinary life until he got a message that forced him to change. Although trying
to ignore the change, he eventually followed God s plan. Throughout his journey, he becomes wise as

However, at the end when Absalom s life came to a short end, Stephen finally exclaimes, Does he
repent him, or is there only room for his fear? Is there nothing that can be done now, is there not an
angel that comes there and cries... (Paton 312). Stephen asks these questions as he prays for Absalom
explains how he finally chose to forgive him. As he asks for a second chance for his loved son, it is
too late for anything to start over. Stephen realizes his sins as his son is slowly dying away and he did
not forgive him until now. Although Stephen sinned as he let his son go as a criminal and chose not to
help him become better, he eventually repented for and with Absalom as they are both made holy for
God s purposes. Stephen Kumalo also showed sin and redemption with Gertrude, Stephen Kumalo s
sister. Because Gertrude was a prostitute, Stephen Kumalo was outraged by the fact that his sister did
such a thing. He sinned as he yells at her, You have shamed us, he says in a low voice, not wishing to
make it known to world. A liquor seller, a prostitution, with a child and you do not know where it is?
(Paton 61). He takes his anger out on her as he did not consider how she felt.

History of the West Nile Virus Essay
History of the West Nile Virus
Abstract
West Nile virus (WNV) is a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes. It has been found in humans,
birds, and other animals, typically in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. In 1999, WNV was
detected in the United States for the first time, and since then it has spread across the U.S. According
to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 15,000 people in the U.S. have
tested positive for the WNV infection since 1999, including over 500 deaths. Many more people have
likely been infected with WNV, but have experienced mild or no symptoms.
What is the history of the West Nile virus? West Nile virus is an emerging infectious disease that can
cause encephalitis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because New York City is such a huge port of entry into this country, it was suggested that WNV
came from a bird smuggled into the US from Africa or Asia. Since then, WNV has spread to 48 states,
and to Canada and Mexico. Ever since the outbreak in New York till now there where 15,000 people
in the U.S. that tested positive for WNV infection. The virus has probably spread to the east through
the west by migrating birds that have the virus.
West Nile virus exists in nature through a transmission cycle involving mosquitoes and birds.
Mosquitoes become infected with West Nile virus when they feed on infected birds, which may carry
the virus in their blood for a few days. Infected mosquitoes can then transmit West Nile virus to
humans and animals when biting to take a blood meal. In rare instances, West Nile virus may be
transmitted from human to human through organ donation or blood transfusion or from pregnant
mother to fetus. These new modes or transmission are still under investigation.
People typically develop symptoms 3 to 15 days after they are bitten by an infected mosquito. WNV
affects the central nervous system in the body, however, symptoms vary. Less than one percent (about
one in 150 people) of individuals infected with WNV will develop severe illness. The severe
symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors,
convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness

Characteristics Of The Villa Rotonda
The Villa Rotonda is a famous architecture designed by Palladio. Many people who make great
achievements in architecture, Howard Burns, Francis Ching et al., Andrea Palladio and Rudolf
Wittkower, have all written some words in their books about it. They describe some same
characteristics but for different purpose. Symmetrical structure is the most obvious feature of the Villa
Rotonda, and all four experts works involve it. Burns, professor in architectural history, look at this
villa on a macroscopic level, and he ascribes its symmetry to the influence by Alberti, Raphael and
Giulio. As a forerunner in villa design, Alberti puts forward an idea, in De re aedificatoria, that a villa
should have a central court or hall, and pedimented portico. All these elements can be found in the
Villa Rotonda. Raphael s the Villa Madama becomes a reference when Palladio begins his design.
Wittkower, an art historian specializing in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture ,
describe Palladio s works as his experiments. He says that Renaissance architects always regarded
symmetry as a theoretical requirement in design . Wittkower also mentions that Palladio has already
taken lots of studies on the basic geometric pattern of villa before he designs the Villa Rotonda. The
architecture and design graphics writer Francis Ching describes its plan and section elevation in detail.
He writes ...it is symmetrical around both axes...The building s plan centered on a rotunda originally

The Pros And Cons Of Toxic Waste
Toxic waste disposal should be on everyone s mind in the United States. Even if this problem does not
affect our surroundings first hand, it may end up affecting us later down the road. The way toxic waste
is disposed of throughout America is not always the most legal way or the most safe way. Toxic waste
should be carefully watched, but it is always left to businesses to declare what they want to do with it.
Whether they want to dispose of toxic waste legally or illegally, it s up to them. No matter what
produced the toxic waste, the waste itself is always the last thought on the minds of the businesses. As
long as the waste is disposed of and it doesn t cost them a significant amount of money is all that
matters to them. This should be a concern for everyone in the United States and not just the people in
the vicinity of the toxic waste. The people in the vicinity of the toxic waste may be hit with the hardest
problems, but we are all at risk. Toxic waste has the ability to move freely and could easily move
anywhere in the United States. Toxic waste also doesn t care who it affects. It will affect adults,
animals, plants, kids and even kids that aren t even born yet. It also does not discriminate against
social class. The toxic waste comes and goes as it pleases, but is usually left until it becomes a
problem and by that time it is usually going to take a lot more to fix the issue then if it was just dealt
with the right way. By the time toxic waste is found, it will have

succeeding heists included banks and trains in New Mexico, Wyoming, Nevada, and South Dakota.
The group s biggest heist was that of the new Union Pacific Train which took place on June 1899 in
Wilcox, Wyoming. They made off around $30,000. It was followed by another train robbery in
Folsom, New Mexico where it was reported that they took $70,000 with them. Butch was not part of
that robbery and gang members died or were captured.
On August 1900, Butch, Sundance, Carver and Logan robbed another of the Union Pacific trains in
Tipton, Wyoming. Shortly after, they had their next bank heist at the First National Bank of
Winnemucca in Nevada. The group made off $32,640. The next year was also lucrative when they
raided the Great Northern Train in Montana and got $65000.
By the early part of 1901, Butch convinced Sundance Kid to go somewhere safer as they have already
gained notoriety in the Old West. He, Sundance and Etta Place, Sundance s girlfriend, moved to New
York and further towards Bolivia. Butch and Sundance worked as miners while continuing their errant
ways. Soon, Etta left the two and returned to America, while the duo made their way to South

The World Is A Beautiful Place Poem Analysis
The world is a beautiful place to live in blissful ignorance. The grassy meadows, the alluring sunset
and the serene waters are a few of many scenery that beguile human beings into believing that the
world is beautiful. Lawrence Ferlinghetti s life experiences as an orphan and a soldier in World War II
had shown him the flaws of society that has existed in many generations such as hunger, death and
inequality. To raise consciousness of the world, he used his literature to achieve this goal. In the
didactic poem, The World is a Beautiful Place , Lawrence Ferlinghetti reveals the brutal truth of the
world in order to break the narrow minded and ignorant outlook people have towards the world. Many
poetic devices were used to emphasize the theme of the poem. Repetition and imagery was used to
remind the readers of the underlying bitter tone of the poem while showcasing the different life scenes
in the world. Enjambment was also used throughout the poem to ... Show more content on

There are always two sides of the world that shouldn t be ignored, but instead should be noticed and
appreciated by all humans. William Ferlinghetti s brutal honesty introduces readers to the balance of
goodness and wickedness in the world. The World is a Beautiful Place is a didactic poem that uses
various literary devices to emphasize the theme. Repetition and imagery was used to give readers an
extensive view of the scenes in life and reminds them of the underlying message in the poem.
Enjambment was also used to display the poet s never ending train of thoughts of societal problems
and enjoyment, while death and ignorance are the archetype and connotation of the poem that give
readers a deeper understanding of the universal balance of life. Beauty comes from the eye of the
beholder and when one say that the world is beautiful, they should acknowledge both the problems
and blessings of the world to truly appreciate

Cronus And Hera In Greek Mythology
Cronus and Rhea were the parents of six children, one of them including Hera. Since Cronus had an
uneasy conscience about his children s future intentions, he decided to eat them one by one. When it
came to the last child, Zeus, Rhea decided to save him. Zeus soon came back to dethrone his father
and rescue his siblings. Hera, the Greek goddess of the gods and women, was saved and then became
the wife of Zeus. While they were together, Zeus and Hera had five children. Their children include
Ares; the god of war, Hephaestus: the god of fire, Hebe: the goddess of youth, Eris: the goddess of
strife, and Eileithyia: the goddess of childbirth. Hera always wanted Zeus attention. She always
wanted to feel his affection and warmth, just like a peacock would. Hera s sacred animal is the ...

Every girl grows up wishing to be beautiful, but beauty comes with a cost, and Hera s was jealousy.
She was said to be beautiful, but her vengeful and jealous personality made her ugly. All she ever
wanted was a happy marriage with Zeus, but it couldn t be that way because of his affairs. Hera has
always wanted things to go her way, even if she had to do unspeakable things to get what she wanted.
Hera s husband, Zeus, was known for getting around with mortals and goddesses. He stirred up many
sexual relationships with many mortal women to the point where Hera would punish them, even if
they hadn t started the relationship. Some of these famous tales include Semele, Callisto, and Echo
The story of Semele is a sad one. When Hera found out about the affair, Semele was already pregnant.
Hera then took form of an old lady to befriend Semele. Semele confessed to Hera that her lover was
the god Zeus. Hera pretended not to believe her which resulted in Semele asking Zeus to grant her a

Core Principles Of Chiropractic Care
What is chiropractic care? If you asked this question to hundreds of people, only a few dozen would
know what it really is. Most think of it as a doctor that only addresses back and neck pains and
nothing else. Chiropractic care is so much more than that; it s an alternative to modern day medicine
for many different pains and diseases. Chiropractic care has been around for much longer than most
people realize. Unlike modern medicine which has been evolving and changing for the past hundred
or so years chiropractic care has relatively remained the same for thousands of years. Chiropractic
care has been used for an extensive period of time, Chiropractic types of treatment have been
employed since antiquity (Barbara Wexler). The core ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus chiropractic care has various social, economic, political and aesthetic benefits.
Chiropractic care benefits people s social lives in more ways than most seem to realize. The affects
can be massive, like allowing you to go on more vacation you previously couldn t because of pain, or
in little ways, like allowing our older generation to be more active with their friends and family. In a
person s everyday life, pain can be a deterrent to doing many everyday activities. People with back
and neck problems can t participate with family, friends, or their community when being active causes
them great pain. Once fun times become a distant memory with the present filled with caution and
anticipation for pain. These people take medications and are referred to surgeries by their doctors to
try and improve their everyday life, when in reality all that medication and surgeries are just masking
the problems. What chiropractic care does is addresses the problem at the source. Though chiropractic
care may not fix a person 100%, it allows the person to do more in their lives with less pain. People
can t just focus on the amount of pain they re in, Instead of focusing on pain, note how much more
you can do. Improvement in activities in daily living is a more valid measure of progress than pain

Symbols In The Mortal Instruments
Clarissa Fairchild A mandala is a circular visual meditation tool that is primarily used in Hindu and
Buddhist culture. The word mandala comes from the Sanskrit and means circle. The center of a
mandala is always connected to its circumference and its circumference is tied to the center. This
character analysis is about the protagonist of the very well known dramatic/fantasy novel, The Mortal
instruments: City of Bones, written by Cassandra Clare, and the character is Clarissa Fairchild, or
Clary for short. The novel is set in present day New York, and follows a 16 year old girl, whose life
turns into a mess when she sees someone getting killed, her mother gets kidnapped, and she is told
that all the stories are true , meaning all the myths about demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves,
etc. Clary, a dynamic character, who is selfless, loving, artistic, stubborn, and determined, goes

I chose a mule as the symbol, because stereotypically they are stubborn, and have been called that for
centuries, for their denial to do something, that they don t want to do. Although Clary is, selfless,
loving, and artistic, she also has an unfavorable trait, stubbornness. This trait comes from the fact that
whenever she puts her mind into something (usually trying to help someone), she won t change it. An
example of her being stubborn is: When she pushed Jace off the demon (who was impersonating a
boy), Stupid little mundie, Isabelle said between her teeth You could have gotten Jace killed (pg 14),
she was so focused on saving the boy (who is actually a demon) she didn t realize what she was
actually doing. Stubbornness is Clary s biggest flaw, she gets so focused on something, that she is

Essay on Simon vs. Roger in Lord of the Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Simon represents the innate morality of humans, acting as a
Christ like figure, while Roger embodies the all present cruelty and inherent sadism of individuals.
Throughout the novel, Simon remains unchanged in terms of morality, as others slowly turn to
savagery and hunting, as can be seen when Jack s group become, demoniac figures with faces of white
and red and green. Instead Simon finds a quiet spot in a little cabin screened off from the open space
by a few leaves. By holding his breath, he [cocks] a critical ear at the sounds of the island, using his

corrupted and malevolent without ever thirsting for this power, and is therefore more evil than Jack.
Roger keeps to himself, much like Simon, and remains consistently evil throughout the novel. Near
the beginning, he picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry threw it to miss, held back by the
taboo of the old life. Later, he did not miss and with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his

democracy, equality and justice was indirectly destroyed by Roger. To him, Ralph was a shock of hair
and Piggy a bag of fat, thus dehumanizing and objectifying them. When Sam and Eric were cornered
by Jack s group of savages, Roger demonstrates his enjoyment for hurting others by [advancing] upon

unbridled sadistic pleasure. When Ralph finds Sam and Eric, they say that Roger is a terror . He also

Natural Hazards are Rarely Completely Natural Essay
Natural Hazards are Rarely Completely Natural
Throughout the world, natural hazards are a frequent occurrence. They come in the forms of
hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods, to name but a few. On a range of scales they
create disaster, destruction, loss of life and of livelihood. Natural processes have occurred in the
natural environment for millions of years. They are events that happen naturally, e.g. blizzards and
floods. A natural process only becomes a natural hazard when the risk of human loss is presented. To
put it in context, a flood in an unoccupied valley is a natural process, whereas a flood in a valley
where a village is situated is a natural hazard. Natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as the village of Boscastle is situated in the valley, it became a natural hazard. Extensive
damage was inflicted upon the properties in the village, and human life was put to risk, although
thankfully none was lost. A bakery owner spoke of his losses: There s bits of trees and wood and God
knows what in here that doesn t belong. The walls are gone, the bread rack is smashed to pieces, there
are electric wires everywhere… . It could be said that the paved surfaces of the village s streets added
to the surface runoff into the stream and worsened the flooding situation. This cannot alone be blamed
for the events, but it may have added to the fact that it was not an entirely natural occurrence. The
flooding of Boscastle quickly escalated from a natural process to a natural hazard.
It is not debatable that hurricanes cannot be generated, or fought, by humans. Hurricane Charley hit
the coast of Florida on Sunday, August the 13th 2004. It was the most devastating hurricane to hit the
area since 1921. It came from the Gulf of Mexico with a strength of 120mph, and it was warned by
officials that the hurricane could submerge parts of the city of Tampa, eastern Florida. This caused
mass panic as residents tried to flee, blocking bridges and infrastructure. Again, had the area been
unoccupied, the hurricane would have remained a natural process rather than

what had happened last night was adding to his stress because he d been unable to learn from Brig,
who talked to Rufus Tucker all night, what he knew about the night Rashida was killed. And who was

Film Conventions Of The Horror Genre
Insidious easily fits the film conventions of the horror genre and themes. Insidious incorporates classic
horror elements like haunted houses, ghosts, children being possessed, and outside experts of the
spiritual world. A family with three children start to witness things out of the ordinary and are unable
to understand what they are seeing. The mother, for instance, knew she was seeing strange deities, but
her husband refused to believe it and thought she was just out of it. The classic element of denying
there is anything out of the ordinary going on is a classic horror element. Typically the people who
deny the reality that there might be something supernatural happening, are the first people to be killed

Compare And Contrast The United States Vs The Congo
United States Versus the Congo
Do you ever think about how lucky you are? You should. You live in one of many countries that cares
for its citizens. Living in America you have opportunities that other countries will never have. For
example, there are many third world countries that struggle daily to keep multiple citizens alive. These
citizens have to fight for their lives and sometimes never get any form of medical help. Whereas in
America we have many different resources that allow us to be a strong world power, if we lost citizens
by the hundreds weekly we would be a country in need. Many countries in Africa are considered third
world countries because they are overpopulated and under developed.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in Central Africa, struggles daily because the
government fails. The country has been in civil conflicts for nearly a decade, this however is not the
main health hazard. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Congo was a popular location for slave trade,
while foreign powers intruded they also exposed the area to their diseases that have remained for
centuries. These diseases have developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

prevented by vaccinations. The medical organizations in both the United States and the Democratic
Republic of the Congo, are spreading awareness for the need of vaccinations. These vaccines, allow
your body to fight off deadly diseases, but being vaccinated is very important. They allow you to
continue your daily life. These vaccines however do not help those who are already infected by the

The Life and Times of Lucille Ball Essay
The Life and Times of Lucille Ball
Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything
done in this world. That quote was one that Lucille Ball lived by throughout her twisted and turbulent
life. As one of the most recognized faces in the world, she is known to millions simply as Lucy. She
went from waitress and salesgirl to model to Goldwyn Girl to radio clown to an unlikely leading lady
in a ground breaking sitcom that is still seen in regular syndicated reruns more than 40 years after the
series ended. Beyond being a television legend, she was the first woman president of a major

Nervous and shy in a large city she despised, she lasted only six weeks at the school and returned
home to Celoron. While waiting for her big break, Ball modeled under the name Diane Belmont until
she was virtually bedridden for three years by rheumatoid arthritis. After her recovery, she returned to
New York and was chosen by Liggett and Myers to promote cigarettes as the Chesterfield Girl. Her
entrance into the film industry came about when she accidentally ran into Sylvia Hahlo, a local
theatrical agent, while walking up Broadway one day. Hahlo informed her of an opportunity to appear
in Roman Scandals (1933), produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Ball auditioned and was hired as one of the
twelve Goldwyn Girls , though it was a small part as a slave girl. Despite her talent, it was quite
possible that Ball might never have progressed beyond a little known actress if it weren t for meeting
Desi Arnaz, a Cuban bandleader. He made his way to Hollywood in 1939 where on the set of RKO
Studios, while filming Too Many Girls (1940), Ball and Arnaz met; they were married on November
30, 1940, less than a year later. The Ball Arnaz marriage was turbulent to say the least; their careers
necessitated long periods of separation and Desi had a fondness for liquor and women. Hoping to have

INTRODUCTION
When we walk through the halls of a modern office building, unless there are underlying
psychological issues, few wonder if today will be the day the building collapses. Few people question
if the floor is strong enough for their weight, if the wind will blow over the structure, or if there are
enough exits to safely get out of the structure in an emergency. Why is it that all over the world, for
the most part, buildings are relatively similar? Why is it that people don t question the structural
intergrity of a facility every time they enter? The answer is standardized construction through the
incorporation of Building Codes. Over thousands of years the process of regulating construction has
become so engrained into society that few today question the integrity of their office building,
highways, or homes.

  • 2. Finding Accurate Causal Affects Of A National Supported Work Paul Doxsee Econ 104 Finding Accurate Causal Affects Abstract An analysis was performed to see if the effect of a National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was effective in increasing the earnings of a group of individuals. The analysis showed that, on average, those treated earned roughly $800 more than their counterparts three years later. Because of the randomization method used when selecting the participants, we can be confident that this estimate is causal. This randomization removes all biases from omitted variables as well as any selection bias, because the groups were systematically alike as shown in the analysis. Another analysis was performed using data from both the NSW study as well as the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). This analysis showed that using non experimental data creates biased results because the two groups are not comparable. Furthermore, even the use of regressions in an attempt to correct this bias will not be successful and will still not result in causal results. Introduction The National Supported Work (NSW) Demonstration study was an experiment that took individuals with long term employment problems and randomly assigned them to either receive or not receive a job training program. The goal of this program was to show that these job training programs work, in that they help people get better, higher paying jobs. The results of the study supported that. They showed that on average the earnings of the treated group after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Upper Rio Grande Essay The Upper Rio Grande Change is an unavoidable part of life. For some, change can bring promise and a new beginning. For others, change disrupts what is routine and normal and makes what is new seem strange and unfamiliar. The history of North America has been shaped by change ever since Columbus first discovered the continent in 1492. With that discovery, the continent would never be the same again. More specifically, the Native American tribes who first inhabited this continent would never be the same. Over the years the Native Americans would see new explorers and missionaries take over the land that was once theirs and claim it for another country. The traditions, customs, and culture of these Native Americans inevitably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, this paper will give an overview of the native people of the Upper Rio Grande during the 19th century and their interaction with the rest of New Mexico. From 1598 1606, Don Juan de Orate colonized the Rio Grande area. The Spanish settlers came with more than just colonization on their minds. Orate and his men were hoping the area would prove to be a huge resource of gold and other valuable resources. Meanwhile, Spanish missionaries brought Christianity to the Indians (White, 6). Orate entered the area now known as New Mexico with a group made up of 130 families, 276 single men, 83 wagons and carts, 11 Franciscan Friars (and) 7,000 cattle herded by drovers on foot (Horgan, 161). At a celebration of the settlement, Orate asserted what he believed was a rightful claim to the land that was already occupied by Pueblo Indians. Before kneeling at a cross and asking God for the successful conversion of the native people, he said I take possession . . .of the lands of the said Rio Grande, without exception whatsoever, with all its meadows and pasture grounds and passes . . . and all its native Indians (Horgan, 165). The Spanish did not take no for an answer. They took supplies from the Indians; sometimes paying for them, sometimes not. They were ruthless. Within a year of Onate s speech, the Indians showed their disapproval of the arrangement as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the character of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte reveals even when left abandoned, abused, alone and exiled from familiar surroundings, one can still discover happiness in a life of one s own. At a young age, Jane learns to recognize joy in the little moments of her life, even while being abused and later exiled. • 5. The Kosta Bros Case Analysis Question 1 The Kosta Bros Seafood has experienced a series of changes to become one of the most influential seafood companies in Australia and Southeast Asia. It started with George s effort as a sole trader when he emigrated from Greece to seek for huge opportunity. In 1950s, his two brothers came to assist him. They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal assets were used as securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They agreed to be individually liable for business s entire debt. In 1980s, Perth was experiencing the mineral boom and the economy grew tremendously. The Kosta Bros could be able to expand more rapidly as the city was invested heavily. Thus, it became a company, which was defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ten years later, the business becomes a countrywide company and there are currently 70 shareholders. Thus, an unlisted public company was achieved at this stage . The Board of Directors would like to change the entity structure from the ambition of penetrating into new markets and raising more funds. They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a large proprietary company. Under CA 2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined when there are less than 51 non employee shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders existing in the company. Also, it did not raise funds from the public since most of the capital was obtained from the interest bearing debt provided by major banks. Thus, the company was a proprietary company. When we are evaluating the size of a company using CA 2001 s45A (2)*, Kosta Bros employed 85 EFT staffs, which were greater than 50*; the gross assets obtained were $19m, which were greater than $12.5m; the gross operating revenue was $20m, which was less than $25. When two of three thresholds are achieved, the proprietary company is regarded as large*. In 2013, the company becomes an unlisted public company because it has 70 shareholders, which are greater than 51. The Iroquois Culture We place you upon those seats, spread soft with the feathery down of the globe thistle, there beneath the shade of the spreading branches of the Tree of Peace (Dekanawida 49). The Iroquois use a tree to symbolize their binding law and peaceful constitution. The Iroquois tribe has been around since before the 1500 s. Their stories have been passed down and interpreted in many ways, to which I have learned about in American Literature. The culture of the Iroquois mostly revolved in their tribes and clans. The women owned all property and determined kinship. So, the children a woman has, take her name and clan. • 7. What Is A Tent Foot What is a tent foot? What you need to know. Have you ever struggled to understand what a tent footprint is? Or have you ever struggled to understand why people need tent foots? We ll I m here to answer that. I think that it is important to know what a tent foot is because it is such a useful tool when camping, that it can save the underneath of your tent from damage while you are camping. So what is a tent footprint, really? Think of a tent footprint like the foundation of the tent. What this tent foot does is it protects the underneath of your tent from any wear and tear. Normally, tent foot s come attached to the tent itself so you don t necessarily have to worry about buying a new one. However, many tents are waterproof underneath. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Believe it or not, when you are doing the tossing and turning, you are causing abrasions on the ground material of the tent. Over time, the friction from those abrasions will tear the underneath of the tent apart. Are there any other uses for the tent foot? Tent footprints can be used as a form of insulation underneath your tent. When the tent foot is underneath your tent, the tent foot will trap warm air underneath your tent to provide you warmth for as long as possible. The tent footprint also makes sure that packing up the tent is as easy as possible. Since the tent itself will be on top of the tent footprint, the tent will stay dry underneath. That means that you don t have to spend as much time cleaning the tent before packing up. One other way that tent footprints can help, other than protecting the tent from damage, is by helping you place your corners of the tent. When you buy your tent, the tent foot will nearly be the exact dimension as the tent footprint. As for the waterproofing; just because some tents are waterproof, doesn t mean that a tent footprint cannot add an extra waterproofing layer underneath the tent. It is generally a good idea to have as many extra layers of water

  • 9. The Terrible Corruption Of The Medieval Church In other words, the Pardoner preached his sermons on greed as to guilt those who listened into being more generous with their money so he could satisfy his own greed. Chaucer gave this excellent example of the terrible corruption of the medieval Church in Canterbury Tales. The Middle Ages spanned from the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD through the beginning of the Renaissance. This was a period of great hypocrisy and darkness within the Church and its leaders. The corruption of the Church during the Middle Ages can be studied by exploring the effects of the Black Plague, the resulting corruption within the church, the unbiblical practices that came about, and those who recognized the corruption and fought to expose it. Problems: The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perpetrators: Throughout history, there have been many popes who have promoted these unethical practices. Pope Boniface VIII is one of the most well known corrupted popes. After making his way up to the position of pope in 1294, Boniface began his tyrannical leadership. He was in favor of papal authority which was the belief that the pope has ultimate authority over the whole church and can exercise it unhindered at any time (Bonsor, Roos). He also felt that he was the supreme authority over not just the church, but over the emperor as well. Boniface abused his power, waging wars, leading conquests, and collecting riches for himself. He also feuded for many years with King Philip IV because he believed the church should not be taxed. Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet, was a personal enemy of Boniface because he believed that the emperor and pope should share equally distributed power between them. He also condemned Boniface s participation in simony. Later, Boniface s careless actions resulted in Dante s exile; therefore, Dante reserved a place for Pope Boniface VIII in the eighth circle of hell in his work Inferno for his disgraceful acts against him and the church. In addition to the damage Pope Boniface VIII caused the medieval church, Pope Alexander VI further contributed to the Church s downfall. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Dracula And Gothic Essay The Gothic genre does suppress vulnerable women. They are exploited in order to please the tyrannical male and feed his desires. When the women is no longer of use, she is then discarded. The Gothic genre is described as formulaic and one of the key features is a tyrannical male who abuses his power to assert his dominance over a perceived futile women. Bram Stoker s Dracula was written in time where women started to want more equal rights and opportunities. For example, in the same year Dracula was published (1897), Millicent Fawcett founded The National Union of Women s Suffrage . Lucy is not seen to be the ideal Victorian wife, why can t they let a girl marry three men or as many that want her , due to her low morals and her naivety towards the way a women was expected to act it allowed Dracula to exploit her. Stoker presents Lucy in a way that would be shocking and unacceptable for a Victorian reader. Stoker insinuates that Lucy is fatherless because Stoker only refers to her father once in the book and it is in the past tense, Lucy s father, had the same habit he would get up in the night and dress himself , even if Lucy s father is alive it is clear that he has had minimal involvement and impact on Lucy s life. Stoker could be suggesting that Lucy s lack of a patriarch has meant that she has a desire and craving for one leading her to finding one where ever she could find it. When Dracula is removing blood from Lucy she is described as half reclining Stokers use of this word suggests that Dracula is not forcing her or even restraining her, it implies that she is accepting what is taking place. Stoker goes as far as to imply that Lucy is enjoy the experience, Her lips were parted... heavy gasps , this is very sexually suggestive of a post climatic moment. • 11. My Papa Knultz Analysis Battered Knuckles While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly supports the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reflect back to his sentimental memories with his father. In brief, Roethke leaves the audience with an unclear understanding of what the meaning of the poem is. In discussions of My Papa s Waltz, one controversial issue is the father casually plays with the son. On the other hand, some readers argue that the father is abusing his son straightforwardly. However, after contemplating the context of the poem and gathering information from the text, it has become undeniably clear that the poem is about the father abusing his son. Ultimately, Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to illustrate a picture of his nostalgic remembrance for the readers. The authors controversial poem becomes clear when one carefully examines the context of the poem. In stanza one, line one, Roethke describes the papa in the poem as having whiskey on [his] breath. This line illuminates the idea of the father being intoxicated; hence, can lead to a change in behavior. Further, the change in behavior can be the cause of violence towards the child in the poem. Coincidentally, Roethke s father dies in 1923 at the age of 52; thirty eight years later Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz, roughly at 52 years of age. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Eassy On Smoking 1.0 Introduction Tobacco is a major contributor to deaths from chronic diseases . Tobacco is the world s single most avoidable cause of death and illness. By the end of the twentieth century, cigarettes killed approximately five million people annually worldwide and tobacco is expected to take the lives of nearly one half of the world s 1.1 billion current users. It is predicted that during the first quarter century, the number of smokers will increase by a half billion, and the number of annual tobacco related deaths will more than triple to 10 million, with developing countries suffering the greatest impact. The annual death toll is projected to increase several fold in low income countries by the year 2020, and Pakistan is no exception. Although the Government of Pakistan in 1997 identified smoking as one of the leading causes of mortality, it remains one of the most serious public health challenges. Smoking is strongly associated with age, which may suggest social tolerance to smoking in this setting and that social and educational variables appear to play a significant role in smoking among universities students. According to research universities and college students on tobacco use, indicated that more than half of the students used a tobacco product. Nowadays the prevalence of smoking continues to increase especially among the younger age students. Modern Feminism In the NBC, television show Park and Recreation, Pie Mary , Ben Knope declares, I m sorry, this whole thing makes me queasy. I love how independent my wife is and because of that I will not let her speak. That came out wrong. The point is, Leslie is a great mother, public servant all around person. And I am tired of everyone constantly telling her that she is making the wrong choice. Over a century ago, women embraced their rights and independence as equals to men. Since the United States passed the 19th amendment (allowed women to legally vote) with pride and happiness to achieve what they desire without the obligation to a man s property or his strict previous perspective of the ideal women. As time passed, something changed and women no longer admired and praise for their independence, but instead objective to those norms as seen above with Leslie. Nowadays, women are judged for not embodying the vision of the ideal woman housewife and housemother. As a result of this, women yearned for more purpose in life, rather than restricted to the societal norms which defined women worthiness, or the capability of women. Women are beginning to become more independent, breadwinners, and in general, taking the roles of standard male figures. As a result, society is beginning to discourage women for their hard work, instead of encouraging women as a whole to continue to strive for better. Going back before culture was established. He used to play magic, paint, and play the piano as a child, a later on he found himself directing, producing, writing and acting. Orson Welles performed in Romeo and Juliet, and started a radio career at the same time in 1934. After these many activities, he filmed the famous Citizen Kane in 1939 but released in 1941. Then the movie s audience rated it as one of best films ever made. Because New York City is such a huge port of entry into this country, it was suggested that WNV came from a bird smuggled into the US from Africa or Asia. Since then, WNV has spread to 48 states, and to Canada and Mexico. Ever since the outbreak in New York till now there where 15,000 people in the U.S. that tested positive for WNV infection. The virus has probably spread to the east through the west by migrating birds that have the virus. West Nile virus exists in nature through a transmission cycle involving mosquitoes and birds. Mosquitoes become infected with West Nile virus when they feed on infected birds, which may carry the virus in their blood for a few days. Infected mosquitoes can then transmit West Nile virus to humans and animals when biting to take a blood meal. In rare instances, West Nile virus may be transmitted from human to human through organ donation or blood transfusion or from pregnant mother to fetus. These new modes or transmission are still under investigation. People typically develop symptoms 3 to 15 days after they are bitten by an infected mosquito. WNV affects the central nervous system in the body, however, symptoms vary. Less than one percent (about one in 150 people) of individuals infected with WNV will develop severe illness. Many people who make great achievements in architecture, Howard Burns, Francis Ching et al., Andrea Palladio and Rudolf Wittkower, have all written some words in their books about it. They describe some same characteristics but for different purpose. Symmetrical structure is the most obvious feature of the Villa Rotonda, and all four experts works involve it. Burns, professor in architectural history, look at this villa on a macroscopic level, and he ascribes its symmetry to the influence by Alberti, Raphael and Giulio. As a forerunner in villa design, Alberti puts forward an idea, in De re aedificatoria, that a villa should have a central court or hall, and pedimented portico. All these elements can be found in the Villa Rotonda. Raphael s the Villa Madama becomes a reference when Palladio begins his design. Wittkower, an art historian specializing in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture , describe Palladio s works as his experiments. He says that Renaissance architects always regarded symmetry as a theoretical requirement in design . Wittkower also mentions that Palladio has already taken lots of studies on the basic geometric pattern of villa before he designs the Villa Rotonda. Few people question if the floor is strong enough for their weight, if the wind will blow over the structure, or if there are enough exits to safely get out of the structure in an emergency. Why is it that all over the world, for the most part, buildings are relatively similar? Why is it that people don t question the structural intergrity of a facility every time they enter?
