The Roles Of Aeneas In The Aeneid By Virgil
The Aeneid by Virgil is the hallmark of Roman literature, which Augustus commissioned with the
specific telos of telling the founding of Rome and justifying his rule. The epic follows the journey of
Aeneas after the events of Troy, whom Virgil displays as embodying the Roman ideal of pietas a
Roman s loyalty to his religious, filial, patriotic, and communal duties. In contrast, Dido, his brief and
spurned lover, represents the furor, which is a mindless passion or fury which obstructs one from their
duty. However, I would argue that Aeneas is not the perfect exemplar of pietas these principles, nor is
Dido the perfect antithesis. For both characters, the gods intervene directly as they fight amongst
themselves for what they believe the future should hold. Dido is struck by Cupid s bow, and Aeneas
must be reminded of his duty before he attempts to fulfill it. These divine interjections muddle the
understanding of if the characters actions accurately reflect themselves or the will of the gods.
Furthermore, Dido never abandons her patriotic duty; by even in falling in love with Aeneas, she
hopes to bolster the strength of her army with his soldiers. Aeneas, on the other hand, claims he sails
for Italy against his will, and appears as a puppet of the Gods, instead of seeking to fulfill his duty
himself. While the majority of the readers would agree Aeneas epitomizes pietas and Dido furor, I
would controvert that the distinction is not so clear. The hidden motives of Dido and

The Effects of Gender Roles and Gender Identity on Behaviour
Gender is a psychological term, which refers to our awareness and reaction to biological sex. It is also
a fundamental part of our learning concept.
Gender is influenced by many things, which include:
Biological Influences =====================
Such as, Genetics, Estrogens and Androgens.
Social Influences =================
Such as,
Identification theory, which is:
1. Sexual attraction to the opposite sex
2. Anxiety about sexual attraction

The androgens affect males by controlling the onset of puberty, biological fertility etc and the
estrogens are important to females hormones which control the timing of biological maturity and
menstruation. Girls exposed to higher levels of androgen are defeminized in sex type interests,
abilities and behaviour, but not core gender identity.
Some studies by John Money and his colleagues have been made of girls whose mothers received
excessive amounts of androgens during pregnancy (to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage) .The
babies developed Androgential Syndrome. As they grew they tended to be more aggressive and
tomboyish , and less feminine. They preferred male activities with male company and expressed more
interest in a career than in having a family.
(G.C Davenport, ESSENTIAL PSYCHOLOGY, chapter five, page 116.)
When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is
based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the
child s genitalia reflects.
When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that
some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others
are brought up as males. The child s upbringing was based purely on judgements about their genitals,

The Effects Of Reproductive Health On The Daily Lives Of...
Introduction Reproductive health play a vital role in the daily lives of humans. Specifically for males,
options for contraceptives remain fairly limited due to the market s focus on the protection of women
more often than men. As technology continues to advance, scientists and the general human
population begin to look for more options to provide protection to men engaging in sexual intercourse.
Barrier methods such as the condom, the vasectomy, and newly introduced Vasalgel make up the
available options to men looking to prevent unwanted reproduction. Through research made available
by the Center for Disease Control, Federal Drug Administration, and other contributing doctors, the
Parsemus Foundation developed a form RISUG, which means ... Show more content on

The Center for Disease Control (2017) reported that nationally, condom hardware has a typical failure
rate of 18 percent when used by the average adult, making it a rather safe option. The US Department
of Health and Human Services (2014) stated that a major benefit of condoms, remains their
availability in nearly every supermarket and health retail stores; they are readily accessible to
consumers across all economic backgrounds. Generally, condoms cost less than 1 dollar per unit and
have no restrictions of age or prescription required for purchase. Health departments and clinics often
offer free condoms as a initiative for safer sex in the community. Despite being time consuming and
inconvenient, condoms remain a popular and impermanent option as a method of male contraception.
The Vasectomy First introduced in the 1950 s on a national level, Vasectomies emerged as the first
procedural contraceptive option for men. Commonly known as the sterilization method, a vasectomy
aims to terminate the access of sperm through the vas deferens, the tube that carries sperm from the
testicals, to the outside of the male body with the possibility of reproduction. Vasectomies insure a
reliable form of contraception for men without having to repeatedly use a condom. World of Health
(2007) reported that the level of effectiveness [of vasectomies] is over 99 percent, and are a common

Majoritarian And Effective American Voting System
Voting systems are the set of procedures that determine who will run our local, state, and federal
governments. These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how the
votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a voting
system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant voting
systems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J. Amy in
(2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to determine which
voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High Quality Campaigns,
and Stable and Effective Government as the criteria for evaluating voting systems, and evaluate the
degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems fulfill these criteria. In the
majoritarian vision of citizen control, concentrated power is necessary. Majoritarian elections act as ...

In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be holding
accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the majoritarian
system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected one at a time in
small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected based on who receives
the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only identify which representative was
elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The same can be said about political
parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one party will win the majority of the
seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to blame for unacceptable actions

Tom Gatsby Character Analysis
Imagine if you had a father that left, a crippled sister, and a mother that only cared about herself. For
Tom Wingfield, this is exactly what his family is like. Tom s father left years before the play takes
place, Amanda only cares about herself, and Laura is crippled and painfully shy. For Tom, this means
he has to help his family and stay at home because Amanda does not help Laura. Tom, Amanda, and
Laura each try to escape reality and resort to things they love to do.
Amanda has a very hard time raising Laura, so for Tom, this means that he has to help out a lot. While
trying to pay the bills and take care of his family, Tom has to find ways to escape his stressful life.
After work almost every day, it is likely for Tom to go out and do something. I go to the movies
because I like adventure (33). Amanda asks Tom why he goes to the movies so often and he says it is
because he likes adventure. At home, Tom always has to take care of Laura and Amanda so a way to
escape the stress of this, he goes to the movies. Tom wishes that instead of staying at home to take
care of his family, that he could leave just like his father. People go to the movies instead of moving!
(61). What Tom is saying is about himself, instead of moving out and leaving forever, Tom goes to the
movies to escape his family and the hatred towards his job. Amanda should be focusing on the present,
but instead, she needs to escape the reality of her problems.
Amanda has a very hard time accepting the

Leading Through Change
In 2017 the team of individuals I manage changed 4 times. It felt as soon as I would develop a bond
with an employee a change would occur. As a leader, we struggle with developing ways to lead
through change. I recognized early on that there is a difference between managing and leading. Prior
to all the changes I could use management skills to make sure my team members were meeting
expectations. When changes begin to occur, I had to put on my leadership skills hat to help my team
cope with all the changes that were occurring. With each change that occurred I focused on the human

Leaders are more adapt to change and must remember not to become desensitized to team members
that are not as adapt to change. This is considered narrow minded thinking and should be avoided.
When we have concerns about change we should always remember not to be afraid of change, stay
calm, and articulate your concerns. John Henry Newman once said, To be human is to change. To be
perfect is to have changed often .
Change Model and Self Assessment
In the technology industry change is inevitable. If change is planned and with the right tools
individuals will accept change in a positive light. One recommended tool to use to understand change
and the stages associated with change is the Kubler Ross Change Model. Kubler Ross was a
psychiatrist that identified the five stages that most terminally ill pa0 tients experience they are:
denial, frustration, depression, experiment, and decision. We often use this tool to identify which stage
our teams are in and to develop an action plan for moving them through the various stages.
With the denial stage, we recognize that most individuals are in disbelief of the change. During this
stage leaders, must move quickly to create alignment. This will provide structure during a chaotic
period. Once things become stable, individuals can begin to feel frustration once they realize that
things are different. Leaders must maximize communication to

The Oregon Health Services Commission
The Oregon Health Services Commission addressed budget cuts in 1990 by proposing a list of
Medicaid services. The list was ranked by priority, based on a cost effectiveness analysis. Access to
particular services became limited, but coverage was increased from 67% to 100% of the poverty
line1. Much protest broke out in regards to how the treatments were prioritized on the list. Some of the
dissatisfaction was of preceding events, such as the death of 7 year old Coby Howard following
funding cuts for organ transplants . Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure
enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took
affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay
will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services.
It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for
Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that
priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need
between individuals in resource allocation. Regarding Oregon s Health Services Commission, the
objective of the CEA was to identify and compare the costs and benefits of different health
interventions . The justification for this procedure, in light of funding cuts on Medicaid, was that the

province of Phrygia; before the Christian era the city of Colosse was a principle city the Lycus Valley.
Being part of a major trade route in Asia Minor from Ephesus to Miletus, the city was known for its
production of textiles, especially in its purple wool. Larger cities such as Laodicea and Hierapolis,
made it a well populated and high business area in the Lycus Valley. With great changes in the road

Colossians 2: 3. The purpose in writing Colossians was to express Paul s personal interest in the
Colossians to warn them against reverting to their old pagan vices, and to counteract both the
theological heresy and its practice within the church at Colosse. We live in a world where religious
confusion is ramped, just as it was in the days of the apostle Paul we are confronted with false
teaching without and within the church and as the early church rejected all forms of syncretism
because they were convinced that Jesus alone was God and the only way of salvation, this truth was
firmly stressed. Thus, as with the early church, so the church must not tolerate the syncretism of our
day. We can tolerate genuine pluralism, the idea that the religions of the world can peacefully co exist,
but not syncretism, the idea that the beliefs of various religions can be combined. Our society wants a
tolerance that accepts all beliefs. Tolerance can be defined in two ways, legal tolerance is the right for
everyone to believe in whatever faith (or none at all) he wishes. This is important in our society, and
we as Christians should maintain our conviction that no one should ever be coerced into believing as
we do. Another legal way of tolerance is social tolerance, a commitment to

Steve Jobs Speech Analysis
Steve Jobs, a world class tech guru, and Neil Gaiman, a Newbery medal winning author, were both
tasked with the similar job of writing and delivering a commencement speech to university graduates.
Steve Jobs speech occured at the highly esteemed, prestigious university of Stanford, while Neil
Gaiman delivered his speech at the University of the Arts. Both speeches carried a very similar
message; Jobs speech urged students to find what they love and all will fall into place, and Gaiman s
speech advised students to take risks and do whatever it takes to do what they love. However, whilst
Gaiman is able to use varying structure throughout his speech to develop his messages that he wants to
the graduates to take away along with relatable evidence graduates, Jobs incredibly simplistic
structure and evidence that is foreign to most students do not allow for him to effectively reach his
students. Steve Jobs speech fails to reach the Stanford graduates as it consists of three stories that are
identical in structure filled with examples foreign to his audience in his attempt to inspire Stanford s
class of 2015 to do what they love and trust that everything will work out. All three of his stories one
about connecting the dots, another about love and loss, and final story about death unfold the exact

Reaction Paper On Mungbean
Mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek), also known as green gram, is a major pulse crop of India.
Mungbean has been vastly grown on the Indian subcontinent as well as parts of Asia. Mungbean has
also been referred to be part of the poor man s meat because of its high nutritive value as well as its
ease of digestibility. India alone accounts for 65% of its world acreage and 54% of the production
(Biyani et al., 2012).The pulse is of short duration and is a multifunctional pulse as it is now known to
provide a good quality combination of fodder for livestock, green manure and food. Mungbean is
known to fix atmospheric nitrogen and its symbiotic association of nodulated roots and Rhizobia has
enabled farmers to save money on procuring N fertilisers. If grown in a cropping system mungbean s
rhizodeposition abilities might contribute significantly to higher C and N availability in soils to
succeeding crops (Zang et al., 2015). Mungbean has low input requirements and has the ability to
provide much required nutrients and moisture for a succeeding crop (Singh et al., 2011). India and the

Nursing Students As A Nurse
Question In nursing schools around the world, nursing students, in particular, are known for being
pushed to the brink. It s a simple technique, considering that you re preparing them for careers where
they are on their toes day in and day out, catering to the needs and well being of others all the while
managing the high demand of a post secondary education. Sure, we all have deadlines and things to do
in a day, but are we pushing them too far? Are nursing students becoming too stressed? Why? And
how do we fix this? Or are we just weeding out those that can t handle the stress and are not prepared
to handle a career as a nurse? Rationale This is an important question in our society as the world is
gradually needing more and more nurses present in hospitals, emergency crews and long term care
facilities. Not everyone, though they think that they are able, can handle the stressful day to day
challenges of being a nursing student and, eventually, a nurse. As described in our online class,
biological stress is a physiological reaction to stressful events. For many students, especially around
the months of November and December, as well as March and April, the amount of homework begins
to pile up as midterms come to an end, and, final exams grow closer and closer. As such, our brain
perceives the accumulation of essays, final exams and deadlines as stressors. I believe that this is an
important question to answer as though there are stressors in the everyday working lives

Flashbulb Memory Essay
The cognitive level of analysis evaluates and studies the mental structures and processes involved in
behaviors. For example, memory or perception. These various behaviors are knows as cognitive
processes. We will evaluate what role emotion plays in a specific cognitive process and how it could
possibly affect and influence them. In this essay, we will investigate how emotion can affect memory
in reference the the Flashbulb Memory theory of Brown and Kulik that was done in 1977. This theory
and many others were developed after Freud s hypothesis that only therapy can resurface disturbing
memories that create painful emotions. Another example of a study that was done based off of Freud s

Two researchers, Neisser and Harsch, decided to test out the flashbulb memory theory by interviewing
participants about the 1986 Challenger space shuttle crash. They interviewed the participants the day
after it had happened and the two and a half years later. In their findings, they found that their memory
of how it happened and what they were doing at that time had changed. They concluded with agreeing
with Brown and Kulik about the fact that flashbulb memories are very vivid and detail rich but also
concluded that they are very unreliable and can change over time. Researcher Talarico and Rubin
decided to test out the theory behind the flashbulb memories as well. After their investigation, they
concluded that the memories are very vidid but are not accurate at all. This supports the Neisser and
Harsch findings. In conclusion, after evaluating the various studies, we can agree that emotions do in
fact effect our memory. Based off of the flashbulb memory theory, it is explained how our vivid and
detailed emotions can prevent us from factually remembering what happened and that our memory

The Steps Of Good Computer Security Operations
Introduction
A successful BC/DR plan has defined steps within the project that must be defined. We need to initiate
the project, identify key business processes, conduct an impact analysis, develop business continuity
strategies, identify communication needs, and finally monitor and review the plan.
Mitigating the impact of a disaster be keeping mission critical capability available when needed is key
to any BC/DR plan. These plans are often critical to a company and the company s business model.
There is a significant amount of time, money, and physical resources that go in to a successful BC/DR
plan.
Background and Significance
The steps we take to create a BC/DR resemble the steps of good computer security operations. Threat
evaluation, risk assessment, mitigation, and service priorities, are a few of the computer security
operations that directly relate to a good BC/DR plan. When implementing a BC/DR from a
administrative standpoint we see a significant shift in focus from computer security to physical
infrastructure, backup and restoration procedure, staffing, logistical operations, and connectivity. To
ensure the system stays operational in a degraded state a business must address the integrity of the
system. Without computer security considerations a BC/DR plan can fail and turn into an
unmanageable situation. During a restoration of workstation in a BC/DR plan, it may be possible to
get bad data from a location that was not maintained correctly, which could

Why Surveillance Is Important
Surveillance occupies a major portion of the typical private investigator s day, and is one of their most
important tasks. Here are a few hints and tips for any new or aspiring private investigator to help
improve their surveillance skills:
It s not exactly thrilling sitting all night in your car checking on someone who says his recent accident
means he is house bound, while the insurance company suspects the claimant is still running a night
time taxi business from home. A colleague who specializes in this type of investigation says that,
instead of sitting up all night waiting to see if the person is working nights on the taxis, he places a
small coin on the top of the rear tyre of the car, then goes home to bed. If the coin is still there ... Show

But don t do this too regularly, in case the technique actually draws the attention you seek to avoid.
Investigators in quiet areas like villages and parks will find a dog a useful ally. After all, a man out
walking his dog can retrace his route, walk off the beaten track, and stop and stand still for a couple of
minutes, without making anyone curious.
The successful investigator never looks his subject in the eye; not for long periods, that is. Sunglasses
even if they are a bit of a cliché in detective movies are a good idea in appropriate places and at
particular times, as they mean you can look without giving the game away. At night or in the middle of
winter, however, they are certain to attract suspicion!
On a similar theme, never point your car directly at a subject. Park facing the other way, and watch
your subject through the rear view mirrors.
Finally, be patient. Softly, softly, catchee monkey Charlie Chan advised. And a large American
detective agency adds to its promotional literature: We do nothing quickly .

Technology And Its Effect On Society
Technology is the sum of the ways in which social groups provide themselves with the material
objects of their civilization. ( Technology ) In addition, technology has become a basic necessity for
people all around the world. Not only does technology have positive effects on how people function in
the world, but it also has many negative effects. On a similar topic, technology has improved the way
we live tremendously, but people have become extremely dependent on it, almost to the point to where
they could not live without it. The book The Machine Stops could be accurately compared to the way
people around the world live their lives. For example, In The Machine Stops their society became so
dependent on technology, that when technology died, the people died along with it. While the
civilization society described in The Machine Stops and the civilization society today can be
compared through a discussion of the technology to each communication, entertainment,
transportation, and daily life, both civilizations share the potential danger of technology controlled.
The first major way people depend on technology is through communication. In The Machine Stops
no one ever came in contact with anyone else. An example as to how they were able to do this is
through video chat. People in The Machine Stops only communicated with one another through video
chat much like how people living in today s world use FaceTime. FaceTime allows people to talk face

Nuclear Weapons And The World War II
Nuclear weapons were a crucial aspect throughout the history of the Cold War. Scientific and military
development in the early 20th Century had demonstrated the potential of atoms and other properties to
create large scale nuclear weapons. The developments of the arms race within the context of World
War I and World War II further led to the emergence of nuclear weapons for combat. Countries such as
the United States, USSR, and Britain also sought to create effective nuclear weapons. Subsequently,
the major application of nuclear weapons emerged when the US dropped two atomic bombs at
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Whereas President Truman mainly sought to protect Americans
from further deaths by launching atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the USSR posed a
different question. Did Truman consciously drop the bombs to intimidate the USSR? Therefore, the
Soviet Union interpreted the use of these nuclear weapons as an anti Soviet move. This further set the
basis of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race between the two countries. In this case, the United
States use of nuclear weapons in the Second World War was crucial to intimidate the USSR and its
emerging global dominance to set the foundation for the emergence of the Cold War.
The rapid surrender and destruction of Japan was a clear indication that the US had managed to
become a global leader in weapons development. However, there was also more reason to suspect the
real reasons for the use of nuclear weapons in

Essay about Honored Irish Immigrants
For many people, the American dreams and promises brought ideas and new hopes of a better life. For
the Irish, the American dreams and promises weren t just ideas and hopes, they were the way to a new
beginning in America, a way to start over and forget the horrifying past they encountered. The Irish
struggled day after day to pay for fair travel to America. To many people, the challenge the Irish
overcame seemed to deserve praise. Today, the Irish are honored and commemorated for their hard
work and desire for a better life.
The start of the Irish peoples struggles began when the British came and destroyed their way of life.

People worried about the potato crop. At first, the potatos seemed fine, but after further examination
the potatos were rotten. In October of 1845, Britain s Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, established a
scientific commission to discover over half of Irelands potatos had been ruined by wet rot. The potato
crop failed time and time again. Irish people began to lose hope in receiving better living conditions,
but the shipping lanes opened to America after they had been closed by the war (Philip). Irish began to
think of the American dream and promise.
The American dream and promise changes a nations state of mind. It originally comes from the
Declaration of Independence. The promise is all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain unalienable Rights. The dream: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All of
which were things the Irish desired (Pendry).
According to Philips, between 1815 and 1816, around 20,000 Irish traveled to the Americas. These
emigrants were mostly professionals and shopkeepers, because farmers couldn t afford travel. Over
the next two decades shipping fees continued to have outrageous prices, but between 1823 and 1825
more people, such as the merchants and farmers, were able to travel because free passage and land
grants were allowed to Catholics. The largest emigration was in 1827 when nearly 400,000 Irish
traveled to the Americas on Coffin Ships; overcrowded ships filled

The Portland s Water System Essay
I have learned about the Portland s water system in the first of a few weeks. I have learned the
Portland s water resources, water quality management, history of water system, water transportation
system, and water issues in Portland area. Now, I compare Portland s water system to another city in
the United States. I pick up Seattle s water system because I lived in Seattle for two years before I
move to Portland, and I m interested in the Seattle s water system. In this journal, I write about the
following sections: History of Seattle s water system, water resources, water quality management,
water transportation, water issues in Seattle, and conclusion (similarities and differences between
Seattle s water system and Portland s water system). History: In the 19th century, Seattle s water came
from springs, wells, and private water companies. However, the population of Seattle increased in the
late 19th century, and the demand for water supply also increased. In June 6, 1889, there was a large
fire what is called Great Seattle Fire in downtown Seattle. After this event, government decided to
establish municipal water system. After this plan was approved, the government constructed the Cedar
River water system. On January 10th, 1901, water from the Cedar River flowed into Seattle s water
system for the first time. A pipeline channeled water to the Lincoln reservoirs and the Volunteer Park
on Capitol Hill. When the water system constructed, the water system capacity was 23.5

Comparing The Scarlet Letter, Flowers, And The Comet
For centuries, humans have related nature to their lives in any way, shape, or form as a way of coping
with or understanding their current situations. No matter how intricate or complex human nature is,
we, as humans, still use nature and the colors presented in nature to explain events or fears. Within the
novel The Scarlet Letter, flowers, the land on which the cabin lies, clothing and their colors, the
woods, and the comet are used to further explain situations in which characters find themselves in.
Flowers within the town and the homes of the town reveal the truth behind certain places and people.
The land of the cabin is paralleled to Hester herself and the world in which she finds herself. The

The land on which Hester s cabin lies is also a direct parallel to Hester and her life. The test states, It
had been built by an earlier settler, and abandoned, because the soil about it was too sterile for
cultivation, (Hawthorne 121). This quotation proves that the land was deemed infertile and no one
believed that anything could be grown. However, Hester manages to grow a few small plants. Even
from a few plants, she still managed to grow something from what was given to her. This same idea is
repeated throughout her life. After, having Pearl, she was an outcast, yet she still was able to make
herself into a well known talented embroideress. She was also still able to support herself and Pearl
even though she was given nothing but shame. This proves that Hester is not what the Puritanical
society sees her as. She is more than they think she is because, just as the infertile land, she was able
to make something from nothing. Hester and Pearl s clothing and color of the clothing also reveals
their true position in society. Their strict society wears quite basic clothing which has only begun to be
adorned with Hester s embroidery. Right from the beginning, Hester shows that she is defiant, no
matter the circumstances which she is under. When she emerges from the jail, the red letter
immediately proves that she does not follow societal norms. The novel states, On the breast of her

Depleted Uranium Contamination
Depleted Uranium Contamination
From Military Activities
1. Introduction
Depleted uranium (DU, Q metal, D depletalloy, or D 38) is uranium with a lower concentration of the
fissible isotope U 235 than natural uranium. Natural uranium consists of 99.28% U 238, 0.71% U 235,
and 0.0054% U 234.1 Nuclear reactors use uranium as their basic fuel in the form of UO2.2 DU is a
byproduct from enriching natural UO2 to use in these nuclear power reactors. Uranium decays slowly
by emitting an alpha particle. U 238 has a 4,510,000,000 year half life and U 235 has a 247,000 year
half life; which means that DU is significantly less radioactive than natural uranium. Although it also
has civilian uses, DU byproduct majorly has military uses.3,4 Properties that make DU suitable for
military weaponry, as a part of kinetic based armor piercing shells are its high density and pyrophoric
nature.5
It wasn t until the 1970 s the Pentagon began searching for material to make denser armor piercing
projectiles that DU started being used in conflicts. After testing various metals, researchers decided to

Dante Alighieri s Influence on Italian Culture
Dante Alighieri was a very well known and influential poet in early literature. amp;#8220;He was not
only a poet, he was also a philosophical thinker, an active politician, and a religious visionary ;
(Holmes 1). Dante was born in Florence in 1265, into the Guelph political party, one of the two main
parties in Florence. The Guelphs were aristocrats and nobles. They supported the church and papacy
and were against the Renaissance. Their opposition was the Ghibellini Party who consisted of the
rising merchant class. They supported the emperor and wanted to gain power from the pope (Holmes

His writings have been hailed amp;#8220;the pillars on which the European literary tradition has been
built ; (Dante: The Divine amp;#8230; Internet). The Divine Comedy is very influential and is
considered as the greatest piece of poetry in early European literature. amp;#8220;Dante amp;#8217;s
Divine Comedy has rightly been regarded as the supreme literary expression of a crucial stage in
European thought ; (Holmes 1). Dante also influenced the style of poetry by introducing a format that
consisted of three canticles each divided into 33 or 34 cantos. Many poets after him have copied this
format (Wilkins 12).
His most famous piece of literature, The Divine Comedy, is said to be important also because of
amp;#8220;It amp;#8217;s place in the history of the development of the Italian language ; (Dante:
The Divine amp;#8230; Internet). To understand this we need to look at the language and writings at
that time in history. During Dante amp;#8217;s lifetime different dialects of Italian were spoken in
different parts of the country (Dante Alighieri, 1265 1321 Internet). Dante was a very skilled writer
who wrote in both his Florentine Italian dialect and Latin, which was unusual since most scholarly
writings at that time were in Latin (Dante Internet). Dante however believed that the language of one
amp;#8217;s family was noble and he broke the traditions of those before him.

The Heart and Blood Circulation Essay
The Heart and Blood Circulation The heart is a four chambered muscular pump around the size of a
fist. It beats about 100,000 times a day pumping around 2,000 gallons of blood through about 100,000
miles of organic tubing.
The heart is a big muscle with four valves connected together to make a two stage pump. The heart
gets its energy by oxidizing blood sugars. This released energy, contracts the heart s many muscle
cells, and the four chambers squeeze blood out into the arteries.
The arteries are thick walled muscular tubes which carry blood away from the heart. The heart has two
sides the left ventricle and the right ventricle. The artery from the right ventricle pumps blood to ...

The venae cavae collects oxygen depleted blood from the body and routes the blood to the right atrium
in the heart. When the right atrium squeezes, it pushes blood through the tricuspid valve into the right
ventricle. Like the other three heart valves this is a one way valve (blood can only flow in one
direction). When the right ventricle contracts, it pushes blood through the pulmonary valve and on into
the lungs. Because it does not take much pressure to get blood to the lungs and back, the right side is
smaller than the left. The left side has to work harder pumping blood to the rest of the body. Blood in
our arteries is at a high pressure, blood in our veins is at low pressure. The blood, rich in oxygen,
returns from the lungs through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium. To get all the way round blood
has to go through the heart twice and this is why it is called a double circulation.
Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets floating in a liquid called plasma. The
red blood cells contain haemoglobin and carry oxygen. Haemoglobin is a protein which becomes
oxyhaemoglobin in the lungs. The white blood cells fight disease by making antibodies and fighting
germs.
Blood transports these vital materials around the body. Blood plasma contains nutrients, hormones and
waste products. Oxygen is carried

Using Vlan And Vpn Network ( Virtual Local Area Network )
Introduction: The devices on one or more LANs can be configured to communicate as though they
were directed connect referred to as VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network). They are located various
geographical areas. Since VLANs are taking into account intelligent rather than physical connections,
they have a great degree flexible. VLANs characterize broadcast domains in a Layer 2 network, in
which the broadcast domain is the arrangement of all devices that will get broadcast frames which
originates from any device inside of the set. Broadcast domains at time have limitations by routers that
don t forward broadcast frames. Layer 2 switches broadcast domains regardless of the setup of the
switches. Switches permit one to make numerous broadcast domains. Every broadcast domain is
similar to a particular virtual bridge inside of a switch. [1]
VLAN VPN highlight is a basic yet flexible Layer 2 and it labels private network packets with
external VLAN labels allowing the data to be transmitted both inward and external VLAN labels.
Implementation of VLAN and VPN Access: the VLAN VPN allows packet with a VLAN tag, the
device will label the packet with the default VLAN tag of the receiving port and add the source MAC
location to the MAC location table of the default VLAN. If the packet transports a VLAN tag, the
packet turns into a double labeled packet. Then the packet turns into a bundle conveying the default
VLAN tag of the port. [2]
Requirement for Multiple VLANs: The various

Birling shows no signs of compassion for the death of an innocent girl and says arrogantly, I care. I

after all that has happened, therefore this reveals how selfish and self centred he is. However, Sheila s
thoughts are completely the opposite of this and she explains, I behaved badly too. I know I did. I m

reveals that Sheila has strong emotions and feelings and cares that Eva Smith has died. She regrets the
mistakes that she has made in the past and is trying to learn from them. It shows that she feels very
guilty and responsible for the suicide and is a very sensitive and caring character. She has learnt her
lesson, but believes that her parents are acting very irresponsibly and unintelligently. Later, she says to
her father, You don t seem to have learnt anything. This is a very realistic statement, and the audience

The difference between how one interprets visual cues over textual cues was explored through a study
that was conducted in order to see which one had primacy. It was said that it is possible textual cues
induce impressions more so than that of visual cues due to the fact that in a textual cue one has to
process what the person is saying. It is a tough spot to be in when trying to create an online

International Standard For Quality Management Systems
Introduction
This document is an overview of the ISO 9001:2008 international standard for quality management
systems developed by the International Organization for Standardization with the intent to give
specific requirements to companies and organizations on methods to enhance customer satisfaction
and meet statutory and regulatory requirements by improving effectiveness and performance of their
quality management systems. The overview will cover the requirement, certification procedures and
benefits of ISO9001 certification.
History
Quality management systems owe their basis to the the military industry. In fact the origins of
ISO9000 series of standards dates back to fifties, during the development of a nuclear submarine in
the US which had issues with contractors causing delays and quality breakdowns. As the result of the
research of that project the foundations of quality management were developed and other important
military standards were born such as NASA s and British Defence s quality management standards. In
1971 the British Standard Institute applied a QMS to electronics industry with the BS 9000 and, later
on, in the manufacturing industry in 1979,publishing the BS 5750 from which the ISO9000 series of
standard, published in 1987, is heavily based. After its revision in 1994 the ISO 9000 added separate
ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003 standards for different industries becoming the reference quality
management system standard in different nations and

  • 2. The Roles Of Aeneas In The Aeneid By Virgil The Aeneid by Virgil is the hallmark of Roman literature, which Augustus commissioned with the specific telos of telling the founding of Rome and justifying his rule. The epic follows the journey of Aeneas after the events of Troy, whom Virgil displays as embodying the Roman ideal of pietas a Roman s loyalty to his religious, filial, patriotic, and communal duties. In contrast, Dido, his brief and spurned lover, represents the furor, which is a mindless passion or fury which obstructs one from their duty. However, I would argue that Aeneas is not the perfect exemplar of pietas these principles, nor is Dido the perfect antithesis. For both characters, the gods intervene directly as they fight amongst themselves for what they believe the future should hold. Dido is struck by Cupid s bow, and Aeneas must be reminded of his duty before he attempts to fulfill it. These divine interjections muddle the understanding of if the characters actions accurately reflect themselves or the will of the gods. Furthermore, Dido never abandons her patriotic duty; by even in falling in love with Aeneas, she hopes to bolster the strength of her army with his soldiers. Aeneas, on the other hand, claims he sails for Italy against his will, and appears as a puppet of the Gods, instead of seeking to fulfill his duty himself. While the majority of the readers would agree Aeneas epitomizes pietas and Dido furor, I would controvert that the distinction is not so clear. The hidden motives of Dido and ... Some studies by John Money and his colleagues have been made of girls whose mothers received excessive amounts of androgens during pregnancy (to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage) .The babies developed Androgential Syndrome. As they grew they tended to be more aggressive and tomboyish , and less feminine. They preferred male activities with male company and expressed more interest in a career than in having a family.
  • 4. (G.C Davenport, ESSENTIAL PSYCHOLOGY, chapter five, page 116.) When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the child s genitalia reflects. When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others are brought up as males. Specifically for males, options for contraceptives remain fairly limited due to the market s focus on the protection of women more often than men. As technology continues to advance, scientists and the general human population begin to look for more options to provide protection to men engaging in sexual intercourse. Barrier methods such as the condom, the vasectomy, and newly introduced Vasalgel make up the available options to men looking to prevent unwanted reproduction. Through research made available by the Center for Disease Control, Federal Drug Administration, and other contributing doctors, the Parsemus Foundation developed a form RISUG, which means ... The Center for Disease Control (2017) reported that nationally, condom hardware has a typical failure rate of 18 percent when used by the average adult, making it a rather safe option. The US Department of Health and Human Services (2014) stated that a major benefit of condoms, remains their availability in nearly every supermarket and health retail stores; they are readily accessible to consumers across all economic backgrounds. Generally, condoms cost less than 1 dollar per unit and have no restrictions of age or prescription required for purchase. Health departments and clinics often offer free condoms as a initiative for safer sex in the community. Despite being time consuming and inconvenient, condoms remain a popular and impermanent option as a method of male contraception. The Vasectomy First introduced in the 1950 s on a national level, Vasectomies emerged as the first procedural contraceptive option for men. Commonly known as the sterilization method, a vasectomy aims to terminate the access of sperm through the vas deferens, the tube that carries sperm from the testicals, to the outside of the male body with the possibility of reproduction. Vasectomies insure a reliable form of contraception for men without having to repeatedly use a condom. • 7. Majoritarian And Effective American Voting System Voting systems are the set of procedures that determine who will run our local, state, and federal governments. These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how the votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a voting system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant voting systems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J. Amy in (2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to determine which voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High Quality Campaigns, and Stable and Effective Government as the criteria for evaluating voting systems, and evaluate the degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems fulfill these criteria. In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be holding accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the majoritarian system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected one at a time in small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected based on who receives the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only identify which representative was elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The same can be said about political parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one party will win the majority of the seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to blame for unacceptable actions (Amy ... It felt as soon as I would develop a bond with an employee a change would occur. As a leader, we struggle with developing ways to lead through change. I recognized early on that there is a difference between managing and leading. Prior to all the changes I could use management skills to make sure my team members were meeting expectations. When changes begin to occur, I had to put on my leadership skills hat to help my team cope with all the changes that were occurring. If change is planned and with the right tools individuals will accept change in a positive light. One recommended tool to use to understand change and the stages associated with change is the Kubler Ross Change Model. Kubler Ross was a psychiatrist that identified the five stages that most terminally ill pa0 tients experience they are: denial, frustration, depression, experiment, and decision. We often use this tool to identify which stage our teams are in and to develop an action plan for moving them through the various stages. With the denial stage, we recognize that most individuals are in disbelief of the change. During this stage leaders, must move quickly to create alignment. This will provide structure during a chaotic period. Once things become stable, individuals can begin to feel frustration once they realize that things are different. • 11. The Oregon Health Services Commission The Oregon Health Services Commission addressed budget cuts in 1990 by proposing a list of Medicaid services. The list was ranked by priority, based on a cost effectiveness analysis. Access to particular services became limited, but coverage was increased from 67% to 100% of the poverty line1. Much protest broke out in regards to how the treatments were prioritized on the list. Some of the dissatisfaction was of preceding events, such as the death of 7 year old Coby Howard following funding cuts for organ transplants . Coby was suffering from a form of leukemia and unable to procure enough money for a bone marrow transplant, formerly covered by Medicaid until the changes took affect1. His death became the face of the problem over the debate of prioritized services. This essay will argue that cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is not a just procedure for prioritizing health services. It will argue that priority for the worse off would be the most just approach in prioritizing services for Medicaid recipients through the case study of the Oregon Health Services Commission. I believe that priority to the worse off is the better alternative to CEA because it considers the difference of need between individuals in resource allocation. Regarding Oregon s Health Services Commission, the objective of the CEA was to identify and compare the costs and benefits of different health interventions . The justification for this procedure, in light of funding cuts on Medicaid, was that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Larger cities such as Laodicea and Hierapolis, made it a well populated and high business area in the Lycus Valley. The purpose in writing Colossians was to express Paul s personal interest in the Colossians to warn them against reverting to their old pagan vices, and to counteract both the theological heresy and its practice within the church at Colosse. We live in a world where religious confusion is ramped, just as it was in the days of the apostle Paul we are confronted with false teaching without and within the church and as the early church rejected all forms of syncretism because they were convinced that Jesus alone was God and the only way of salvation, this truth was firmly stressed. Thus, as with the early church, so the church must not tolerate the syncretism of our day. We can tolerate genuine pluralism, the idea that the religions of the world can peacefully co exist, but not syncretism, the idea that the beliefs of various religions can be combined. Our society wants a tolerance that accepts all beliefs. Tolerance can be defined in two ways, legal tolerance is the right for everyone to believe in whatever faith (or none at all) he wishes. This is important in our society, and we as Christians should maintain our conviction that no one should ever be coerced into believing as we do. Another legal way of tolerance is social tolerance, a commitment to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steve Jobs Speech Analysis Steve Jobs, a world class tech guru, and Neil Gaiman, a Newbery medal winning author, were both tasked with the similar job of writing and delivering a commencement speech to university graduates. Steve Jobs speech occured at the highly esteemed, prestigious university of Stanford, while Neil Gaiman delivered his speech at the University of the Arts. Both speeches carried a very similar message; Jobs speech urged students to find what they love and all will fall into place, and Gaiman s speech advised students to take risks and do whatever it takes to do what they love. However, whilst Gaiman is able to use varying structure throughout his speech to develop his messages that he wants to the graduates to take away along with relatable evidence graduates, Jobs incredibly simplistic structure and evidence that is foreign to most students do not allow for him to effectively reach his students. Steve Jobs speech fails to reach the Stanford graduates as it consists of three stories that are identical in structure filled with examples foreign to his audience in his attempt to inspire Stanford s class of 2015 to do what they love and trust that everything will work out. All three of his stories one about connecting the dots, another about love and loss, and final story about death unfold the exact same way: first, he recounts to a time in which he was younger. Mungbean has been vastly grown on the Indian subcontinent as well as parts of Asia. Mungbean has also been referred to be part of the poor man s meat because of its high nutritive value as well as its ease of digestibility. India alone accounts for 65% of its world acreage and 54% of the production (Biyani et al., 2012).The pulse is of short duration and is a multifunctional pulse as it is now known to provide a good quality combination of fodder for livestock, green manure and food. Mungbean is known to fix atmospheric nitrogen and its symbiotic association of nodulated roots and Rhizobia has enabled farmers to save money on procuring N fertilisers. If grown in a cropping system mungbean s rhizodeposition abilities might contribute significantly to higher C and N availability in soils to succeeding crops (Zang et al., 2015). Mungbean has low input requirements and has the ability to provide much required nutrients and moisture for a succeeding crop (Singh et al., 2011). • 16. Nursing Students As A Nurse Question In nursing schools around the world, nursing students, in particular, are known for being pushed to the brink. It s a simple technique, considering that you re preparing them for careers where they are on their toes day in and day out, catering to the needs and well being of others all the while managing the high demand of a post secondary education. Sure, we all have deadlines and things to do in a day, but are we pushing them too far? Are nursing students becoming too stressed? Why? And how do we fix this? Or are we just weeding out those that can t handle the stress and are not prepared to handle a career as a nurse? Rationale This is an important question in our society as the world is gradually needing more and more nurses present in hospitals, emergency crews and long term care facilities. Not everyone, though they think that they are able, can handle the stressful day to day challenges of being a nursing student and, eventually, a nurse. As described in our online class, biological stress is a physiological reaction to stressful events. For many students, especially around the months of November and December, as well as March and April, the amount of homework begins to pile up as midterms come to an end, and, final exams grow closer and closer. As such, our brain perceives the accumulation of essays, final exams and deadlines as stressors. These various behaviors are knows as cognitive processes. We will evaluate what role emotion plays in a specific cognitive process and how it could possibly affect and influence them. In this essay, we will investigate how emotion can affect memory in reference the the Flashbulb Memory theory of Brown and Kulik that was done in 1977. This theory and many others were developed after Freud s hypothesis that only therapy can resurface disturbing memories that create painful emotions. Two researchers, Neisser and Harsch, decided to test out the flashbulb memory theory by interviewing participants about the 1986 Challenger space shuttle crash. They interviewed the participants the day after it had happened and the two and a half years later. In their findings, they found that their memory of how it happened and what they were doing at that time had changed. They concluded with agreeing with Brown and Kulik about the fact that flashbulb memories are very vivid and detail rich but also concluded that they are very unreliable and can change over time. Researcher Talarico and Rubin decided to test out the theory behind the flashbulb memories as well. After their investigation, they concluded that the memories are very vidid but are not accurate at all. This supports the Neisser and Harsch findings. In conclusion, after evaluating the various studies, we can agree that emotions do in fact effect our memory. Based off of the flashbulb memory theory, it is explained how our vivid and detailed emotions can prevent us from factually remembering what happened and that our memory (because of this emotions) can change over ... • 19. The Steps Of Good Computer Security Operations Introduction A successful BC/DR plan has defined steps within the project that must be defined. We need to initiate the project, identify key business processes, conduct an impact analysis, develop business continuity strategies, identify communication needs, and finally monitor and review the plan. Mitigating the impact of a disaster be keeping mission critical capability available when needed is key to any BC/DR plan. These plans are often critical to a company and the company s business model. There is a significant amount of time, money, and physical resources that go in to a successful BC/DR plan. Background and Significance The steps we take to create a BC/DR resemble the steps of good computer security operations. Threat evaluation, risk assessment, mitigation, and service priorities, are a few of the computer security operations that directly relate to a good BC/DR plan. When implementing a BC/DR from a administrative standpoint we see a significant shift in focus from computer security to physical infrastructure, backup and restoration procedure, staffing, logistical operations, and connectivity. To ensure the system stays operational in a degraded state a business must address the integrity of the system. On a similar topic, technology has improved the way we live tremendously, but people have become extremely dependent on it, almost to the point to where they could not live without it. The book The Machine Stops could be accurately compared to the way people around the world live their lives. For example, In The Machine Stops their society became so dependent on technology, that when technology died, the people died along with it. While the civilization society described in The Machine Stops and the civilization society today can be compared through a discussion of the technology to each communication, entertainment, transportation, and daily life, both civilizations share the potential danger of technology controlled. The first major way people depend on technology is through communication. In The Machine Stops no one ever came in contact with anyone else. Scientific and military development in the early 20th Century had demonstrated the potential of atoms and other properties to create large scale nuclear weapons. The developments of the arms race within the context of World War I and World War II further led to the emergence of nuclear weapons for combat. Countries such as the United States, USSR, and Britain also sought to create effective nuclear weapons. Subsequently, the major application of nuclear weapons emerged when the US dropped two atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Whereas President Truman mainly sought to protect Americans from further deaths by launching atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the USSR posed a different question. Did Truman consciously drop the bombs to intimidate the USSR? Therefore, the Soviet Union interpreted the use of these nuclear weapons as an anti Soviet move. This further set the basis of the Cold War and the nuclear arms race between the two countries. In this case, the United States use of nuclear weapons in the Second World War was crucial to intimidate the USSR and its emerging global dominance to set the foundation for the emergence of the Cold War. The rapid surrender and destruction of Japan was a clear indication that the US had managed to become a global leader in weapons development. When the right atrium squeezes, it pushes blood through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. Like the other three heart valves this is a one way valve (blood can only flow in one direction). When the right ventricle contracts, it pushes blood through the pulmonary valve and on into the lungs. Because it does not take much pressure to get blood to the lungs and back, the right side is smaller than the left. The left side has to work harder pumping blood to the rest of the body. Blood in our arteries is at a high pressure, blood in our veins is at low pressure. The blood, rich in oxygen, returns from the lungs through the pulmonary veins into the left atrium.
