Macro Practice Community Analysis
In my early forties, I was given a second chance to choose a career. I was laid off from my workplace
of 18 years due to a slump in the oil industry. I started working with an employment agency to perfect
my resume and come up with creative ways that my skills transferred to other industries, but my heart
wasn t in it. My job had meant to be a short term pit stop on my way to realizing my true purpose, one
that got too comfortable. This was an opportunity for me to select a meaningful career that I could be
proud of. The direction of my career change chose me, even before I took the battery of career
aptitude and personality tests offered by the employment agency. I had spent the last year battling a
brutal cycle of depression spent in direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A dimensional model provides a continuum with normality appearing on one end of the continuum
and severe forms of a disorder at the opposite end (Sue, Sue, Sue Sue, 2016, p.93). Using the same
Schizophrenia diagnosis to describe a high functioning doctor stabilized on her medication who has
identified her triggers and has learned coping mechanisms to deal with her auditory hallucinations and
a low functioning woman living in a long term care facility who needs help getting dressed in the

patient centered care. Moving away from a disease centered model allows clients to be active
participants in their treatment plan (Tempier, Hepp, Duncan, Rohr, Hachey Mosier, 2010, p. 453),
which aligns with social work s strengths perspective and empowerment of the client. Using a
comprehensive biopsychosocial model and respecting the diversity of culture and values helps to truly

Sleep Apnea Energy Essay example
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder affecting millions of Americans today. It is basically a disruption in
ones sleep pattern. Research states that ... Sleep apnea affects an estimated 5% to 10% of Americans
and is undiagnosed in most of them (Weintraub, 2013, p. 1) Sleep apnea contributes too numerous
health issues within the human body or worse death. For these reasons, further research and treatments
should be funded. The USA Today article entitled Sleep Apnea Booming; New Treatments Offer
Alternatives (Weintraub, 2013, p. 1)brings to light the growing numbers of Americans that are
undiagnosed and untreated for sleep apnea. And worse how most doctors fail to even diagnose patients

Oxygen is one of the key nutritional inputs to the process of life specifically energy. Sleep apnea
disrupts your breathing while you sleep.
This disruption limits the oxygen that gets into the body which limits the body s ability to produce
energy. This course also provides background information that helps one to understand the article and
the larger issue surrounding it in several ways. From the molecule of life, to cell structure, to how the
body captures and releases energy all provides the basic foundation for understanding the inns and
outs of biology (The study of life). Just like most cells have similar pieces and parts; it is fair to
hypothesis that through research, the rote cause for sleep apnea may be similar to other health issues.
This article caught my attention due to myself being diagnosed with sleep apnea. I have always been
told that I snored. My snoring has been compared to having a running diesel lawnmower in the bed
room. I never thought much of this criticism. Reading this article made realized that I have always had
but had been totally unaware of the symptoms for sleep apnea. As a United States Marine, I was
always in great physical shape, but yet, I was always tired and took daily naps. Speaking to a fellow
Marine about my constant fatigue, he made me aware of the disorder called sleep apnea. Up until that
point, I had never heard of it. I then realized

Essay on Environmental Laws vs. Economic Freedom
Sustainability
Vega Gordilio and Alvarez Arce (2003) states economic freedoms exist in the following conditions;
property acquired without the use of force, fraud, or theft is protected from physical invasions by
others. Economic freedoms exist when individuals are free to use, exchange, or give their property to
another as long as their actions do not violate the identical rights of others (Vega Gordilio Alvarez
Arce, 2003). Environmental laws are established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who
works with state, federal, and other government agencies to issue limitations on individuals and
organizations in order to protect the environment, endangered species, and others from harm (Coons,
2009).

Providing society with an increase of economic freedom will likely increase harm to the environment
(Ozler Obach, 2009). Ozler and Obach (2009), states that the less freedom afforded for capitalism
through government regulations, the better the ecological footprint. Government penalties and
regulations require businesses to dedicate funds and resources to avoid harming the environment.
Endangering the ecology presents the choice of saving lives or spending money. Almost everyone
would vote to save lives but in many cases businesses will vote for legislation that will increase the
organization s bottom line (Smith Jeffreys, n.d.). Government intervention is needed for the protection
of the environment, which subsequently protects the human race.
Federal air quality regulations, regulatory protection for endangered species, federal programs for the
cleanup of hazardous waste sites, the Clean Water Act, and Federal mandates for automobile fuel
efficiency, are just a few of the laws imposed by the government to protect the environment. Many of
government programs are costly for businesses and some even counter productive. Government
intervention is called for when market activities impact environmental quality (Frazier, 2003).
Fulton (2010), states that the heavy environmental regulations have actually strengthened the
economy. The regulations imposed by the government put pressures on private business to comply. As

The Tell Tale Heart Mood
This poem is about the murder of an old man. In The Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allen Poe uses dark
details, diction, and imagery to convey a haunting mood. The murderer expresses how he killed the
old man and tried to hide his body. The darkness was pierced by a beam of light as the old man was
haunted by the murderer stalking him. In the Tell Tale Heart the author uses dark details to show a
scary and spooky mood. The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them . This
illustrates that he is using negative and dark scary words to show spooky details about the old mans
disease. When I had made an end of these labors, it was four o clock still dark as midnight . This
reveals the this happened very late at night and it gives you a spooky feeling throughout the story. No
doubt I now grew very noel but I talked more fluently and with a heightened voice . This means that
the murderers voice started getting louder and louder to give you a haunting mood. ... Show more

Essay about James Joyce s Araby
Araby
Even under the best of circumstances the transition from childhood into adulthood is a long and dreary
journey that all young men must encounter in life. A road that involves many hardships and sacrifices
along the way; and when that road is a lonely one, with only oneself to rely upon, the hardship
intensifies to become destructive to those involved. This is particularly true in the story Araby, where
James Joyce portrays the trials and tribulations of a young boy s initiation into adulthood. Many of the
boy s problems lie in not being able to come to grips with the harsh reality that no matter how much
he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story, Joyce portrays many symbols to show the boys transition into becoming an
adult. Joyce says, I sat staring at the clock for some time and, when its ticking began to irritate me, I
left the room. The ticking of the clock symbolized the long and frustrating journey into adulthood; and
we see from the fact that it irritated him, shows his desire to become an adult already. Later in the
story, Joyce portrays an instance where the boy desires to be a man even though he is not; From the
front window I saw my companions playing below in the street. It is as if he is an adult, towering over
his friends, looking down upon them when in reality they are the same age as he is.
After receiving money and permission from his uncle to go to the bazaar, we see another symbol used
to show his lonely road into maturity. Joyce says, I took my seat in a third class carriage of a deserted
train. After an intolerable delay the train moved out of the station slowly. The train is the symbol used
here to show the long journey that is taking place in his life. The fact that it was deserted and that the
train moved slowly shows that the transition into adulthood is a very slow moving time in a boy s life,
which can be very lonely at times; I remained alone in the bare carriage.
Joyce is not portraying how adolescents can act

The Story Of Electricity Is Told By Al Khalili Essay
The Story of Electricity is told by Al Khalili, a British theoretical physicist, and begins the three part
TV program with the Spark or dawn of human knowledge of electricity, showcasing the simple and
primitive experiments. Leading next, the second part of the program goes over 18th and 19th centuries
and how many scientists and physicists harnessed the power of electricity and magnetism and created
practical devices and how these devices complete transformed the way people lived and continues to
do so today. In the third episode, Khalili finishes up the story with how what we applied what we have
learned in the past 200 years to connect the world with electricity via networks and broadcasting. He
explains that our era is defined by electricity, and how our understanding of electricity is proportional
to our reliance upon it. The first episode starts us off with Isaac Newton and Francis Hauksbee in the
Royal Society and the experiments they created. One of the first experiments regarding electricity
involved a spinning glass hollow sphere vacuum. In a dark room, as the glass span, Hauksbee placed
his hand very near the surface without touching it, and light emitted from inside the glass. This
experiment was groundbreaking since it was the first time mankind had seemingly created a power
reserved to the All Mighty. Even though this discovery was groundbreaking, its practicality was nearly
nil. Conjurors and street magicians called themselves electricians and

The Meaning Of Socrates An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth...
Socrates stated that An unexamined life is not worth living . In his day this was a very bold statement.
The people back then was stuck in their own ways. They had their ways of thinking and that was it.
Having someone come in and try to show them another way of thinking was not acceptable. They
were not ready for Socrates, therefore they took him to trail, and where he was sentenced to death for
his believes. I think there are several different meanings for his statement. Was he right, was the jury
right in sentencing him to death and what was the outcome of his death?
There is not a clear way to say if Socrates was right or wrong in his statement, but in my opinion he
was a brave man. His statement An unexamined life is not worth living is something everyone should

Who was these people to say if Socrates was wrong in teaching or speaking his beliefs? The
philosopher felt that, what he said was true, and stood up for it no matter the cost. The jury found
Socrates guilty by a vote of 280 to 221. That was a close vote, for a man who so many said was
wrong. Socrates expected to lose much more than this. Meletus proposed the death penalty, and
Socrates was asked to propose a different form of punishment. Being the person Socrates was he
doesn t ask himself what penalty he wants to pay, but what penalty he deserves. He feels as if he
cannot propose an appropriate penalty when he has not intentionally wronged anybody. Even so, he
rejects most of the penalties the jury might consider to be acceptable. Being held in prison would
leave him under the control of someone else. Banishment would just send him to wander from town to
town. Socrates, also refused to give up his philosophizing, as it is only through this that he can so his
duty to God and purse goodness. After Socrates belief and rather weird request for the death penalty to
be commuted, the jury vote and Socrates is put to death by drinking

Normative, Informational and Persuasive Social Influences
1. Compare and contrast normative and informational social influence. Informational Influence and
Normative Influence are both categorized under conformity in sociology. Informational is basically
when we conform to others behavior because we believe it provides information about reality. It is
often when we care about getting the right answer and trying to be rational. It also deals with the
Maybe they know something I don t know phenomenon. An example, could be choosing to eat at a
busier restaurant opposed to the empty one, or imitating the locals when outside your country. In
contrast, Normative Influence is when we conform to others behavior because they expect us to. This
is when we believe conforming may have positive consequences, such as approval or the enhancement
of our reputation, or when we believe not conforming may have negative consequences, such as
disapproval or punishment. An example of Normative Influence is laughing at a joke you don t get, or
agreeing with an opinion you believe in others. Informational Social Influence this theory consists of
the need to analyze different the information and different points of view. When a person is found in
an unknown environment, without sufficient information about it. That person will look at other
people s behavior to know what the social norm is and will then behave in a similar way. People need
information about their environment to feel comfortable. An example of this would be, if you were

Also, in order to define a certain phenomenon based on theory, I will hypothesize how extent the
thought and theory are connected. For instance, globalization affects the way of perception of the
world, which Tsagarousianou describes that The global system of sovereign states has been familiar
both structurally and symbolically in the daily acts of imagination through which space and human
identity are construed. (Tsagarousianou, 2007, p175). I will analyze how the interviewer perceives
media as part of their daily life in their mind.
Method
I conducted an interview with 5 of the interviewer who is categorized as a contemporary immigrant.
The interview style is conducted through one to one conversation and it was conducted in question
conversation style with general questionnaires. In addition to the questionnaires, I expanded them in
depth by an additional conversation in order to figure out the meaning behind the answer. Also, I
conveyed them about what my aim of the questionnaires before conducting the interview. 4 of them
are as a university student, 1 of them is a full time worker, however, his first aim coming to London is
to study at the higher level in London. The age of group are between 22 to 33, and conversation
duration is approximately 20 minute each.

Experiment With The 100 Mit s Sloan School Of Management
Why Everything Is Relative Even When It Shouldn t Be?
Everything is relative based off the decoy effect. The experiment with the 100 MIT s Sloan School of
Management. They opted ad follows:
1. Internet only subscription for $59.00 $16.00
2. Print only subscription for $125.00 zero students
3. Print and Internet subscription for $125.00 84 students
No one selected the decoy option print only. After removing the decoy options only 68 students
choose the internet only options for $59.00 and sales had increased by 16 students. Only 32 students
selected print and internet for $125.00, which was down by 84 students. After, removing the decoy 32
was for print and internet and 68 for internet only. Relative helps make decisions, and human behavior
steers us to make comparison and a decoy helps us make a simple relative comparison. My life
experience is when I purchased a vehicle, I knew that I wanted my car payments to be $300.00 a
month or lower. However, I know that I did not want a compact vehicle, after driving a Nissan
Maxima V6 engine and sunroof cloth seats. I realized, I did not want another Nissan due to fuel
ignition issue that had recalls from 2000 2006. It was a red flag they could not get this right. As a
result, I based my decisions on comparison to a Toyota Camry verses Nissan Maxima. The 1999

born in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln.
Thomas was a strong and determined pioneer who found a moderate level of prosperity and was well
respected in the community. The couple had two other children: Abraham s older sister Sarah and
younger brother Thomas, who died in infancy. Due to a land dispute, the Lincoln s were forced to

Neighbors recalled how Abraham would walk for miles to borrow a book. He undoubtedly read the
family Bible and probably other popular books at that time such as Robinson Crusoe, Pilgrims
Progress and Aesop s Fables. In March, 1830, the family again migrated, this time to Macon County,
Illinois. When his father moved the family again to Coles County, 22 year old Abraham Lincoln struck
out on this own, making a living in manual labor. At six feet four inches tall, Lincoln was rawboned
and lanky, but muscular and physically strong. He spoke with a backwoods twang and walked with a
long striding gait. He was known for his skill in wielding an ax and early on made a living splitting
wood for fire and rail fencing. Young Lincoln eventually migrated to the small community of New
Salem, Illinois, where over a period of years he worked as a shopkeeper, postmaster, and eventually
general store owner. It was here that Lincoln, working with the public, acquired social skills and
honed story telling talent that made him popular with the locals. When the Black Hawk War broke out
in 1832 between the United States and Native Americans, the volunteers in the area elected Lincoln to
be their captain. He saw no combat during this time, save for a good many bloody struggles with the
mosquitoes, but was able to make several important political connections. It was soon after this that he
purportedly met and became romantically involved with Anne Rutledge. Before they

Salgardo s activist photography reflect against media journalism? I will be looking into a brief history

that Salgardo paints a true picture of what is going on in the country s around the world, he visits these

Thomas Annan at work.
Annan was commissioned by the Trustees to record it s passing, an antiquarian commission that
answered an anxiety about the city s ferocious pace of change. Although taken at a time of public
concern about the appalling overcrowding of the urban working class, his photographs are not
obviously documents of social investigation. Through his dispassionate attention to the visual, Annan
initiated what later came to be known as the documentary tradition. From this work more then
developed such as the work by Jacob Riis, How the other half lives in 1888, photographs taken to

I believe that Activist photography is about using your camera as a tool in order to change the world,
by using this you can capture photographic images to advocate for social and environmental
awareness. Drug use, prostitution, pollution can be looked at, or problems that are further a field such
as famine, war, and the plight of refugees and migrant workers. One recognised example of an activist

The Historical Significance Of Communism
How was communism significant?
During the late 1800s, communism has been a form of government that grew out to be successful
throughout time. There was about more than 12 countries who at some point turned communism
during this time. Which overall communism became one of the greatest impacts.
Throughout world history, communism has been practiced in some of the following countries, China,
Laos, North Korea, Vietnam, etc. Communism s significance comes from people s hardships during
the 19th century. But in order to understand more in depth we need to know where it originated from
and what is it exactly.
Origin?
Accordingly, it was founded by Karl Marx and Friedrich Eagles. Marx and Engels felt like capitalism
needed to come to an end because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communism in this case was the light at the end of the tunnel for those who were in lower class.
However, for the upper class it wasn t. Communism is the idea that everyone in a given society
receives equal shares of the benefits derived from labor This basically means that they are given the
same chance as those who have been given one. In this case, wealth was their main concern in order to
combat their main concpoverty. Therefore, middle class people come to the same life status as the
lower class and there was no longer discrimination. In addition communists believe that the state
should control their economic lives by owning and managing all or most industries They choose to do
this in order for a middle class or anyone owning a business to overpower the others. No one can
outdo anyone else by making more money (Alia Hoyt) Communism s solution was to reduce the
problems that were going on and give a hand to those in need.
What are the effects?
Furthermore communism has led to many effects. For example, things are handled drastically
differently from communism. Capitalism has more freedom and that s something communism wouldn
t want to intervene with. In communism some didn t even have the motivation to become someone
with a good career if they won t be rewarded for it. Another effects was that the Holocaust began in
1933. Genocide happened around where they were mainly getting rid of Jews and others. In order to
monitor them as they would put anyone who opposed Nazis in the concentration camps.

Pros And Cons Of Sociological Theories
One of the main things sociology tries to explain is where sociology comes from. Social order can
begin to be explained through four theories looking at an individual or a group, and whether the
decisions they make are rational or irrational. The first theory is the exchange theory. The exchange
theory says that individuals make a rational choice to enter into relationships to get something out of
it. This is the theory criminal justice professionals use to see criminals. People make a rational choice
whether or not to commit a crime by weighing the pros and cons. Laws are enacted to make the scale
lean more towards the con side to deter crime. The next rational theory is the conflict theory. The
conflict theory says that people come together

Grace Kelley to Blake Lively: Hollywood Role Model Queens Think about style, elegance, and the
role model for women in the 1950s. Not only was Grace Kelly a famous movie star with flawless
looks and style, but she was also a philanthropist, a mother and a princess. Now, this is a rather
impressive list of qualities that seems as if it were a fairy tale, a wish list that a child may put together
on their eighth birthday party, and wish for as they blew out the candle. The only thing is that this was
a reality for Grace Kelly in the 1950s until she passed away in the 1980s, this is also true for Blake
Lively aside from the fact that she is not actually married to a prince. Blake Lively picked up where
Grace Kelly left off, making Blake the new queen of poise and grace. Grace Kelly is still a role model

her essence in clothing, but now Blake has moved in. Grace Kelly was the role model of her era and

the the attack that was about to occur. Therefore, under the British s watch, the British allowed them to
return to their ship. Under the watch of the British, Key witnessed the bombardment on Fort Mc
Henry. On the night of September 13, 1814, as he sat and watched, he continued to view the distinct
pictures that were there. This includes: clearing smoke, darkness, gunshots, and red. (Brinkley 176)
Then later, as he continued to watch what was happening on Fort Mc Henry, Key continued to write
his thoughts. Watching this, he thought to himself that the British would win, but in reality, it was an
American victory. On September 14, he saw the American flag still flying over the fort. (Siegel and
Green 30) While still on the ship, Key put all of his thoughts on paper making it into a poem. He
named this poem The Defence of Ft. Mc Henry . His poem was a tune of a older song set to The
Anacreon Song . Ralph Tomlinson wrote An Anacreon in Heaven that was used as a tone for Key to
write his poem. This song was commonly used for the Anacreontic Society. This club consisted of
wealthy men who were named after a poet, Anacreon. His poems mainly focused on love and wine.

The Glass Menagerie Escapism Essay
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is a play with references to his own life concerning his
sister and mother. During the play there are many reoccurring symbols, each symbol is crucial to the
play in order to understand the idea of escape. Through the narrator s perspective, we are able to
witness the mainstream family during a war depression era. We see a single mother, unable to accept
change and retaining to the past; a sister, who has trouble dealing with reality and lives in a fictional
world where she has become fragile and unable to function outside her house within society; and the
narrator himself a young hardworking male figure within his house, whom the family depends upon.

The idea of war was an idea that was seen as adventurous in order to get escape from the harsh reality
of the 30 s poor economy. The escapism offered by entertainment in the play is symbolic for
excitement of war. America resembled Tom seeking and escape from their bland lifestyle leading them
to violent and desperate hopes, in which war is when adventure becomes available to masses. Tom
notices that America s ideas of adventures were much like Amanda and Laura s ideas of escape, they
only temporarily lifted the gloom of their problems. Much like Tom Americans during the 30 s looked
to escape by going to the movies. The theater for many Americans impoverished by the great
depression was one of the only affordable forms of entertainment. At the theater they could find
adventure. Like people in the U.S. Laura, Amanda, and Tom all strive to find adventure by escaping
their bland lives in their own ways. Although all three characters escape to find adventure in different
ways they all escape for the same reason, in order to fantasy and avoid their reality. Their escape from
reality however drives them further apart into an undeniable

Ordinary People Analysis
The Authoritarian, the Permissive and the Authoritative Ordinary People Parents are perhaps the
greatest influences in a person life. They mentor us, shape us and model us into the type of people
they would be proud of. This is no different in the movie, Ordinary People which portrays a family of
three struggling through a tragedy and its byproducts. The movie highlights the three different
parenting styles through the two parents, Beth and Calvin, of Conrad. Furthermore the movie
underscores the impact of externals events on parenting styles relating the Person Situation
Controversy to Parenting styles. Diana Baurind conducted a study in the 1960s which identified the

She quickly rejects this idea multiple times, not letting her husband or son get their way. The audience
does not know if this is an attempt at distancing herself from Conrad so she will not feel the pain she
did when she was grieving or if this simply another attempt at proving her control. However
throughout the movie her attempts at been authoritarian does nothing to make Conrad s situation any
better and only alienates herself from the family. Eventually her authoritarian style of parents fails at
her goal to make her life return to normal or prevent any more downfalls in her family; on much
smaller scale Conrad s quitting the swim team. In response to her failure, she becomes the fourth
parenting style, uninvolved style of parenting. This parenting style is just as it is described;
uninvolved. She withdraws from the family and fails to even acknowledge Conrad at times. This
parenting style is her response to the inefficiency of the authoritarian parenting style. She simply gives
up and resolved that no way she can help her son or stop the bad events from happenings. She no
longer tries to be a parent. This can be seen in the scene when Conrad tries to hug his mother. She
merely looks at him catatonically and does not hug him back. This confrontation leaves Conrad sad
but this with the realization that his mother no longer cares. This is the last parenting style and trait
transformation Beth goes through. Beth and Calvin

Feminism And The First Wave Feminism
Feminism is the movement towards women s equality and the fight for equal gender in the social,
political, cultural and economical aspects of society. Feminism also fights for equal opportunity for
women in employment and education. A feminist is someone who advocates their support for women
s rights but is not restricted to only women; anyone who supports women s rights and equality are
feminists, including men. Feminism is not only about the females; it fights for gender equality for all.
Feminist movements, or Women s movements, campaign for reforms in household issues with
domestic violence, political issues with equal pay, employment and maternity leave, and reproduction
rights. All feminism movements fight for equal rights, but it cannot be conquered or be made known
all at once. First wave feminism was mostly about women s suffrage and political equality in general
whereas the second wave feminism went more in depth about the social and cultural inequalities.
The first wave feminism was mostly about legal issues, specifically woman s suffrage, or the right to
vote. Before women could even think about changing the government policies, they had to raise
awareness. While some acts may have been passed, the feminist movement did not truly start until
1848 with the Seneca Falls Convention. In the early 1800s there were some reforms but not as much
as the aftermath of the Seneca Falls Convention. Only one university, which was Oberlin College, had

contenders are currently faring in the race for presidency. It will also cover the strong suits of the

or not the people of the United States should understand and care about the presidential Primaries.

Significance of Some Historical Incidences
Significance of some historical happenings There are various significant historical incidences that took
place several years in the past which left valuable lessons with the USA citizens and successive
governments. Some of the events took place over 60 years ago but left a lasting mark among the
people that prompted efforts to ensure these events do not happen again. This paper discusses several
unfortunate incidences as well as measures that have been taken to mitigate the issues from happening
again. Halifax Explosion 1917 The Halifax explosion took place on December 6, 1917. A French
cargo ship SS Mont Blanc that was fully loaded with wartime explosives collided with Norwegian
vessel in narrows which is a strait that connects the upper Halifax Harbor and the Bedford Basin. A
few minutes later the volatile cargo went into flames; this was followed by cataclysmic explosions
which was devastating to the Richmond district of Halifax. Close to 2,000 people died from the debris,
buildings that had collapsed and fires and an estimated 9,000 people were injured who might have
been safe were it not the fact that they came out to watch the fire. This was the largest man made
exposition in history. As if this was not enough, some survivors were washed away by water, the blast
had provoked a tsunami and the people who had been blown by the explosion were being rushed over
the shoreline by water. The events of the explosion were quite devastating for people in the area (A E

The New York Times, By Jon M. Gibson
Introduction Kyle Cooper is one of the most prominent and influential designers of both the 20th and
21st centuries. As Jon M. Gibson states, his title sequences have, ...brought attention to an art form
that has long been considered an afterthought... . With more than 150 title sequences, five Emmy
nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in 2014,
Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. His creation of the title
sequence for Se7en (1995) is what brought the limelight to Cooper, after having such a success with
both the public and filmmakers all around the world. The New York Times went so far as to say that
this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s. Influenced
by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper s style and
designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games are done
nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title; something
that had been gradually lost in the previous decades.
Pre Se7en Era As a child, Cooper was highly influenced by American horror films and horror comic
books, which would leave him with an idea of ...evil as an active, supernatural force in the world. A
motif that is clearly seen in his work, as his sequences usually include depictions of evil or have dark
undertones, like in Arlington Road (1999), where Cooper

a timid and quiet creature, sets off on an adventure after being dragged out of his hobbit hole by
Gandalf and thirteen dwarves. With all starting out as a simple adventure, soon turned into a race

Analysis Of The South By Carson Mccullers
The South has a history of deep rooted traditions, some more sinister than others. The deteriorating
antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters
and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally
connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature
understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category
perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their
inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence.
McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that
felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through
her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels
is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always
be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned
by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to
become part of something greater than themselves. People want to believe that human life has more
purpose than first meets the eye, but with no evidence to prove there is a

tobacco, and oysters. He even wrote many articles and essays on economics and capitalistic theories.
He was one of the very few people at that time with such advanced ideas concerning the economy, and

Explain How To Get Rid Of An Ugly Tree Stump
Ways To Remove An Ugly Tree Stump From Your Yard
If you lose a tree due to a storm or disease, you may be able to chop up most of the tree for easy
disposal, but you re still faced with the problem of stump removal. Getting rid of tree stumps is
difficult because of their size and the fact they are firmly rooted into the ground. Getting the stump out
of the ground is hard enough, but then you have to figure out what to do with it. Here s what you need
to know.
Why You Should Remove A Stump
If you have a huge yard and the tree stump is in a back corner, it may be acceptable to let it
decompose naturally over a period of years. If the stump is in your front yard, you should probably get
rid of it to keep it from being an eyesore. Even if you get it shaved down close to the soil, it still looks
bad. You can try to cover it with potted plants or yard ornaments, but you can t really hide the fact you
have an ugly tree stump in your yard. Another reason to get rid of a stump is so it won t attract ants
and termites. You don t want a big colony of carpenter ants to take up residence in your yard and
wander into your house to set up satellite nests. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That takes a lot of work even if you have a tractor or truck to help. The big problem with pulling up a
big stump is how you re going to dispose of it. You may have to pay a fee if you haul it to the dump.
First, you have to figure out how to lift and transport it. Unless you live in the country and can toss the
stump out of the way or bury it out of sight, it may be better to destroy the stump while it s still in
place.

Essay on Analysis of Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith
Analysis of Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the
conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.
Adam Smith
The reasons for writing a book such as Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations are many, and Smith
seems to have had several in mind. His study traces the stages in the development of the modern
economic system in an attempt to explain it, maps out the origins of money, and finally tackles the
issues facing the mercantile system which controlled the society he lived in. In the process, he
provides an exposition for his vision of a laissez faire economy, that is, capitalism as we now know it.

Looking at his own society s economic system, Smith explores the division of labour, the role it has to
play in industrialization, and its general impact upon the wealth of the state.
Smith regards the division of labour and the resultant specialization as the key to increasing the
productivity of labour, rather than the increase in mechanization since the
Industrial Revolution began, as many would argue. Naturally, a highly specialized economic unit
would be dependent upon interaction with other, similarly specialized units, and Smith illustrates that
a system of fair and accessible trade is necessary for an efficient use of labour.
The much quoted example of the pin maker is used to demonstrate Smith s point about the division of
labour. Despite its questionable accuracy, this example does much to illustrate the plight of labour
under a system of increasing specialization. That is to say, it shows the boredom and melancholia
which can be associated with repetitious and laborious work. For Smith, however, any such problem is
amply compensated for by the relative prosperity of a society based upon specialized markets and
trades. For instance,

Acadian Natives
Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal France
in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime provinces of
Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid sixteenth
century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisiana and are popularly
known as Cajuns.
Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of
Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth and
early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious wars
between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than 10,000
people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as La Cadie or Acadia. The
area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of
Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. The Company of New France

Quiver Of A Shrub In California Summary
Sumpretation of The Quiver of a Shrub in California Vaclav Havel, the author of the speech The
Quiver of a Shrub in California , is the former prime minister of the Czech Republic. Throughout the
speech, he gives examples of how his country has been ruined by people whom have been caught up
in trying to succeed and have forgotten that they are not superior to all living entities. Communist
rulers have deceived the people of their countries into doing jobs in which are actually hurting
themselves. The arrogance of man and the neglect they have shown to the Earth must come to an end
before the country, the land, and the people themselves do. The human race has adopted the idea that
they are more significant than their surroundings. They have forgotten the fact that they are not all
knowing; that there are still unthinkable amounts of things to be discovered and that the world will
continue to be a mystery to them (Havel line 28). The author is trying to express that if the world stays
accustomed to, and abides by, the concept that humans are superior to other living creatures and if
they live their lives with only the motivation of self success in mind, there will no longer be a world
for them to aspire on. Humans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The reform also ordered the officers to transmit exact Accounts of the Imports and Exports in their

The Prolonged Identity Crisis Economic Difference of East and West Germany
In February of 1945, the Nazi Germans got defeated and soon surrendered to the allied powers.
Germany s nation was split between the four allied powers: United States, Great Britain, Soviet
Union, and France. In addition, the capital city of Berlin was also divided amongst the Allied Powers
into four sections. However, tensions among the Western Powers and Soviet Union caused a shift into
a Cold War. In 1949, Germany and the city of Berlin got divided into two nations in which became
known as the West and East Germany. West Germany is known as the Federal Republic of Germany
(FRG) and is supported by the three Western Powers. East Germany is known as the German
Democratic Republic (GDR) and is governed by the Soviet Union. The Western Powers and the Soviet
Union created different philosophy within the territories that they governed. Each of the territory has
its own identity, economy outlook, and lifestyle.
East Germany and West Germany struggles to identify their social identity because of the
reconstruction of the German society guided by the Western Powers and Soviet Union. The GDR was
closely monitored by the Soviets and FRG was overseen by the Western Powers. As tensions increased

One of the concepts that arose out of mathematics was economics and the Romans were able to carry
out trade on a better level. This gave a boost to the Roman Empire and the politicians were able to use
mathematics to their advantage. Many of the ideas of economics and politics that the Western world
follows toady have also been derived from Ancient Romans. The Roman s system of the senate is still
employed by many Western countries today. In addition, the Romans were the first ones to introduce
the ideas of interest in business and loans and we all know that the whole economic arena of the world
today works on the principles of interest. Many of the Greek/Roman philosophers, such as Aristotle
and Socrates, also played their role in Roman influence and we see that many Western countries have
their contemporaries who are always building upon the original ideas and concepts. The Roman
influence on art is phenomenal. We find that many of the artists of the Renaissance and the
Enlightenment era used to follow the art techniques of the Romans. Many of the sculptures and murals
painted by Michelangelo (See Illustration 2)[7] are evidence of the fact that he was motivated and
inspired by Roman art. These theories, aspirations, and ideas were passed from the Greeks to the

Homosexuality in Television Essay
Beginning in the 1900s, American culture has significantly affected the representation of gay men,
lesbians, bisexuals and transgender characters, and the treatment of gay subject matter on television.
American culture will be defined, as the presently accepted Western American way of materialistic,
moral, ethical, and racial norms.
One of the mediums by which this cultural shift has continually happened is through television. Not
only does culture affect choices made by those in the television industry, but popular series and talk
shows, whether intentionally or not, name what culturally acceptable regarding many social issues.
Television, TV for short, is referring to the telecommunication medium by which ideas are transmitted

The main family, the Duncan s, invited their daughter s friend over for a play date. It is not until they
open the door that the main characters realize their daughter s friend has not one, but two moms. The
main characters welcome them into their home without the raise of an eyebrow or an awkward glance.
Having a gay couple in Duncan home seems like the most natural thing in the world; and maybe that
was the goal. Regardless, most of America was fairly taken aback. A reference to homosexuality in a
children s show like this would not have even been considered ten years ago. The secular and
Christian community response was attack and defense. Eric Sasson of the Wall Street Journal wrote
one of many articles regarding the episode, ... Disney simply wanted to reflect the reality of its
audience: there are thousands of gay families with children all across the U.S., and many of those kids
are probably tuning in to the Disney Channel. Sasson s point of defending the unintentional placement
was reciprocated by a multitude of secular reporters and writers and shows the heart of the majority of
America at the current time. American culture is accepting homosexual parents to be a completely
normal things even our kindergarteners think it is normal to have two moms or dads.
The Christian response has been anything but pleasant. One Million Moms, a Christian advocacy

Illegal Immigrants Should Not Be Trafficked
However, this topic has been very controversial since some Thai authorities do not acknowledge these
Burmese individuals as victims , rather they acknowledge them as individuals who have been illegally
smuggled into Thailand (Gjerdingen 699). This is one of the strongest arguments that Thailand has
over not having a responsibility over those being trafficked into their country, because these people
actually choose to be trafficked rather than by coercion. Trafficked victims are given assistance not
because they choose to be trafficked, but because they were coerced into the system which violates
their rights as free people. There is some truth to this statement, because some individuals are lured
into being trafficked because of their current country s poor economic situation (Gjerdingen 718). If a
person moves to another country willingly and under illegal circumstances then they are no longer
considered as trafficked victims but as illegal immigrants. Therefore they cannot claim the status of
refugee and receive protection and rights. This is the only circumstance in which Thailand would not
have responsibility over the victims, but it is very difficult to distinguish one from the other, that
Thailand might not be able to use this argument as often as it would like. Despite this controversy, it
depicts that under the Morality of State Theory there is possibility that states might have an obligation
to protect victims of human trafficking, if they are given the status as

College Connection Research Paper
My reasoning for choosing College Connection is because I am in need a fresh start away from all the
drama and acts of juvenile delinquency that a majority of high school students partake in; I find the
whole partying and being wild act very pointless and dangerous at our age, which is why every
weekend while a vast majority of people who are my friends are partying I am working or at home.
This has caused me this past year to lose my spark with school and not try as hard as I very well know
I should be which is why I need a change of scenery and a new curriculum that challenges me to
where I have no room to slack. Aside from the loss of my spark this year I am still a very hard worker

Paper On Generalized Anxiety Disorder
The purpose of the study done by Weinberg was to determine whether or not the presence of
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Major Depressive
Disorder (MDD) or any combination of the detailed above could contribute to variation in both the
ability to monitor errors as well as the sensitivity to error commission. The article theorizes that those
patients diagnosed with GAD or OCD would have an enhanced error related negativity (ERN) level in
comparison to the controls, but not when a diagnosis of MDD was also present. They also predicted
that those patients that suffered with MDD, however, would not differ from the controls in terms of
their ERN levels. The experiment involved psychiatric patients with ... Show more content on

The order of these trials were shown at random. All stimuli were shown for 200 milliseconds. After
consent was given and the proceedings of the examination were briefly explained, EEG electrodes
were attached to the subjects and they were given detailed instructions. Participants performed
multiple tasks throughout the experiment, and the order of the tasks were counterbalanced across the
participants. The participants were seated approximately two feet viewing distance and were
instructed to press the right button mouse button if the center arrow was facing to the right and press
the left button if the center arrow was facing to the left. Before the exam that was used for analysis,
participants were given a practice block containing 30 trials where they were instructed to be as quick
and accurate as possible. Then, the actual task was administered with 11 blocks of 30 trials. The
participants received feedback on their performance. If a participant received a score of 75% or lower,
a message of Please try to be more accurate was given. On the contrary, if the participant received
above 90% a message of Please try to respond faster was displayed. However, if a participant was
between 75% and 90%, the participant received a message that said You re doing a great job. Results

of GAD alone was characterized by a larger ERN than controls with a measurement

Persuasive Speech About Singlish
II. Introduction
George Carlin, a Grammy winning American stand up comedian, actor, author, and philosopher, once
said, Meow means woof in cat. This means, any language, has a purpose and an impact on the people
or things around us. With the rise of many new and different languages like Esperanto and Singlish,
many people have mixed opinions about these languages. In the portfolio, I will be tacking the whole
issue on Singlish, whether it should be allowed or not, since it is related to our society and because of
the rising use of Singlish in this generation.
I was inspired to write and research on this topic as my school had an English week where we were
taught more about English and the languages around us. One of them was Singlish. ... Show more

When using Singlish in school, I recommend that students and teachers exercise control while using
Singlish. They need to know when is the right time and the right place to use Singlish. Also, they
cannot speak Singlish all the time. They need to know the difference between acceptable/ standard
English and Singlish. Just like how they know the difference between Chinese and English. When
greeting someone, for instance, one must use Standard English or it will seen rude and such habits are
negative in the working world when they grow up.
When we live in a multicultural nation, a colloquial language like Singlish is unavoidable. We can
only teach what should be used. I recommend that talks and activities should be carried out drawing
the line between Singlish and Standard English. I do recognize that these programmes would not ban
Singlish, but banning Singlish is not wanted but in fact only needed to be known. Once again, we only
need everyone to know the time to use Singlish.

Modern Human Of Human Trafficking
Modern Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is defined as recruitment, concealing and transporting of individuals involuntarily
for labor and sexual needs under fraudulent and forceful means ( Fact Sheet ). Modern day human
trafficking first became a focus in 1994 when monitoring began. Human trafficking encompasses
more individuals in slavery today then any previous time in history, with about 2.4 million trafficked
globally ( Fact Sheet ). Human trafficking involves both the sex and labor trafficking, and is estimated
to make over $27.3 billion dollars every year ( Human Trafficking ). The United Nations (UN) and the
United States (U.S.) both put forth initiatives to curb the industry in the year 2000, however, there is
still a large disconnect among researchers, investigators, and law professionals on the definitions and
criminal prosecution. Education provided to not only potential victims, but also to consumers is the
greatest potential way to reform the human trafficking industry. According to Half the Sky, over three
million individuals are currently enslaved in the sex industry ( Human Trafficking ). The sex industry
comprises working in brothels, escort services, and the pornography industry among many other
establishments. Many of these women are not only physically tortured, but become mentally and
emotionally unstable. Often, victims come to only know a life inside the sex industry, and eventually
may start voluntarily selling themselves for sex ( Human

Hospital Financial Accounting
Financial Accounting from a Cardiac Hospital
If I were in a management position and had to create a working strategy in order for my company to
gain strength, I would create a plan involving three phases: capital shortage, evaluation of the funding
options for medical equipment, and the evaluation for capitol expansion. I would then run the
necessary financial reports, analyze all the collected data, and then decide the best strategy for our
improvement. Financial gain is important to the company, however budgeting is a must. Capital
shortage, also known as cost cutting, is the first phase of rebuilding when it comes to a facility on the
brink of foreclosure. I was asked to choose two areas that in my opinion, would offer the best ... Show

Not to mention that using an operating lease will also keep the cost off the balance sheet. However,
after submitting all the choices into the simulator, it was discovered that the recommended choices
would have been a refurbished option for the CT, a capital lease for the x ray machine, and an
operation lease for the ultrasound machine. Funding options for capital expansion would be the final
step to making sure that the hospital and its entire staff would be able to keep their jobs, patients
would be able to receive the proper care and that in fact the hospital would be able to stay afloat.
There were three choices to choose from when it came to the funding from outside sources. Private
Banks, tax exemption loans, or a 25 year maturity loan called the HUD where on the table. After
consideration of all information that was available about the loans, the years of maturity, the
percentage rates, the payments, and all the requirements involved, I felt it would be in the best interest
to stay with the HUD. Not only was this a lower interest rate loan, there was no period required for
using the funds on areas where I, as the financial manager, saw fit for it to go. There was also the
convince that it could be paid off in as little as eight years allowing for the hospital to draw in more
revenue and build a more financially strong base in which to continue to provide care for patients. For

Marriage Between Women And Marriage Essay
The Formality marriage relationships documented in this study all included four stages: 1): Men Dang
Hu Dui 2): partnership, 3): friendship, 4): kinship (as shown on model1: formality marriage
developing model in Chinese guanxi society). Even though nowadays homosexual people have all the
freedom and rights to choose their future husband/wife and register for the same sex marriage in many
nations, Chinese LGBTs Populations is another scenarios, due to the same sex marriage haven t
achieved recognition in law and other complicated social cultural barriers in china, such us the
expectation of marriage as a cultural and familial obligation, filial piety, maintenance of family
offspring and other social cultural norms (Coleman Chou, 2013). Although the Formality marriage is a
rather controversial practice since it violates the core element of marriage based on love and many
other unknown risks may incur. The phenomenon reflects a deeply traditional culture that demands
young people to get married and have children to continue the family line when coming to their
marriage age. Some of LGs choose per formality marriage rather than deceptively marry a
heterosexual partner or become a center of discussion by not marrying. Compared to the other
alternatives, it offers a compensated way to balance the pressures from different aspects(Liu, 2013).
From this research, it implies that the marriage practice in formality marriage is a complicated issues

One step in the right direction of behavioral health care is the fresh emphasis on patient centered care. Moving away from a disease centered model allows clients to be active participants in their treatment plan (Tempier, Hepp, Duncan, Rohr, Hachey Mosier, 2010, p. 453), which aligns with social work s strengths perspective and empowerment of the client. Essay on Environmental Laws vs. Economic Freedom Sustainability Vega Gordilio and Alvarez Arce (2003) states economic freedoms exist in the following conditions; property acquired without the use of force, fraud, or theft is protected from physical invasions by others. Economic freedoms exist when individuals are free to use, exchange, or give their property to another as long as their actions do not violate the identical rights of others (Vega Gordilio Alvarez Arce, 2003). Ozler and Obach (2009), states that the less freedom afforded for capitalism through government regulations, the better the ecological footprint. Government penalties and regulations require businesses to dedicate funds and resources to avoid harming the environment. Endangering the ecology presents the choice of saving lives or spending money. Almost everyone would vote to save lives but in many cases businesses will vote for legislation that will increase the organization s bottom line (Smith Jeffreys, n.d.). Government intervention is needed for the protection of the environment, which subsequently protects the human race. Federal air quality regulations, regulatory protection for endangered species, federal programs for the cleanup of hazardous waste sites, the Clean Water Act, and Federal mandates for automobile fuel efficiency, are just a few of the laws imposed by the government to protect the environment. Many of government programs are costly for businesses and some even counter productive. Government intervention is called for when market activities impact environmental quality (Frazier, 2003). • 6. Essay about James Joyce s Araby Araby Even under the best of circumstances the transition from childhood into adulthood is a long and dreary journey that all young men must encounter in life. A road that involves many hardships and sacrifices along the way; and when that road is a lonely one, with only oneself to rely upon, the hardship intensifies to become destructive to those involved. This is particularly true in the story Araby, where James Joyce portrays the trials and tribulations of a young boy s initiation into adulthood. Many of the boy s problems lie in not being able to come to grips with the harsh reality that no matter how much he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the story, Joyce portrays many symbols to show the boys transition into becoming an adult. Joyce says, I sat staring at the clock for some time and, when its ticking began to irritate me, I left the room. The ticking of the clock symbolized the long and frustrating journey into adulthood; and we see from the fact that it irritated him, shows his desire to become an adult already. Later in the story, Joyce portrays an instance where the boy desires to be a man even though he is not; From the front window I saw my companions playing below in the street. It is as if he is an adult, towering over his friends, looking down upon them when in reality they are the same age as he is. After receiving money and permission from his uncle to go to the bazaar, we see another symbol used to show his lonely road into maturity. Joyce says, I took my seat in a third class carriage of a deserted train. After an intolerable delay the train moved out of the station slowly. The train is the symbol used here to show the long journey that is taking place in his life. The fact that it was deserted and that the train moved slowly shows that the transition into adulthood is a very slow moving time in a boy s life, which can be very lonely at times; I remained alone in the bare carriage. Joyce is not portraying how adolescents can act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is often when we care about getting the right answer and trying to be rational. It also deals with the Maybe they know something I don t know phenomenon. This is the theory criminal justice professionals use to see criminals. People make a rational choice whether or not to commit a crime by weighing the pros and cons. Significance of Some Historical Incidences Significance of some historical happenings There are various significant historical incidences that took place several years in the past which left valuable lessons with the USA citizens and successive governments. Some of the events took place over 60 years ago but left a lasting mark among the people that prompted efforts to ensure these events do not happen again. This paper discusses several unfortunate incidences as well as measures that have been taken to mitigate the issues from happening again. Halifax Explosion 1917 The Halifax explosion took place on December 6, 1917. A French cargo ship SS Mont Blanc that was fully loaded with wartime explosives collided with Norwegian vessel in narrows which is a strait that connects the upper Halifax Harbor and the Bedford Basin. A few minutes later the volatile cargo went into flames; this was followed by cataclysmic explosions which was devastating to the Richmond district of Halifax. Close to 2,000 people died from the debris, buildings that had collapsed and fires and an estimated 9,000 people were injured who might have been safe were it not the fact that they came out to watch the fire. This was the largest man made exposition in history. With more than 150 title sequences, five Emmy nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in 2014, Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. His creation of the title sequence for Se7en (1995) is what brought the limelight to Cooper, after having such a success with both the public and filmmakers all around the world. The New York Times went so far as to say that this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s. Influenced by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper s style and designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games are done nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title; something that had been gradually lost in the previous decades. • 32. Analysis Of The South By Carson Mccullers The South has a history of deep rooted traditions, some more sinister than others. The deteriorating antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence. McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to become part of something greater than themselves. Adam Smith The reasons for writing a book such as Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations are many, and Smith seems to have had several in mind. His study traces the stages in the development of the modern economic system in an attempt to explain it, maps out the origins of money, and finally tackles the issues facing the mercantile system which controlled the society he lived in. Looking at his own society s economic system, Smith explores the division of labour, the role it has to play in industrialization, and its general impact upon the wealth of the state. Smith regards the division of labour and the resultant specialization as the key to increasing the productivity of labour, rather than the increase in mechanization since the Industrial Revolution began, as many would argue. Naturally, a highly specialized economic unit would be dependent upon interaction with other, similarly specialized units, and Smith illustrates that a system of fair and accessible trade is necessary for an efficient use of labour. The much quoted example of the pin maker is used to demonstrate Smith s point about the division of labour. Despite its questionable accuracy, this example does much to illustrate the plight of labour under a system of increasing specialization. That is to say, it shows the boredom and melancholia which can be associated with repetitious and laborious work. For Smith, however, any such problem is amply compensated for by the relative prosperity of a society based upon specialized markets and trades. For instance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Illegal Immigrants Should Not Be Trafficked However, this topic has been very controversial since some Thai authorities do not acknowledge these Burmese individuals as victims , rather they acknowledge them as individuals who have been illegally smuggled into Thailand (Gjerdingen 699). This is one of the strongest arguments that Thailand has over not having a responsibility over those being trafficked into their country, because these people actually choose to be trafficked rather than by coercion. Trafficked victims are given assistance not because they choose to be trafficked, but because they were coerced into the system which violates their rights as free people. There is some truth to this statement, because some individuals are lured into being trafficked because of their current country s poor economic situation (Gjerdingen 718). If a person moves to another country willingly and under illegal circumstances then they are no longer considered as trafficked victims but as illegal immigrants. Therefore they cannot claim the status of refugee and receive protection and rights.
