The Gross Domestic Product Has Not Changed A Lot Of People
The gross domestic product has not changed a lot of people in society. The gross domestic product
did increase to some extent as the years passed. According to Bakker, simultaneously, alter
globalization activists have promoted alternative water governance models through North South red
green alliances between organized labour, environmental groups, women s groups, and indigenous
groups (Bakker, 2007, pg. 1). Globalizationhas affected many people. World population involves
billions of dollars. Globalization is also involved in East Asia and Latin America. According to
Bakker, in the paper, she explores these distinct response to water privatization (Bakker, 2007, pg.
1). Some people live in areas where income is low. Some of these people live in Africa, Iraq, Iran,
etc. Some people did not want international economic links. According to Bakker, I first present a
generic conceptual model of market environmentalist reforms, and explore the contribution of this
framework to debates over neoliberal zing nature (Bakker, 2007, pg. 1). People were involved in the
international economy in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc. The century starters that are involved in the

The Role Of Violence In Early 20th Century Literature
Violence seems so intrinsic to history individuals appear desensitized to the implications of subtle,
vicious, or aggressive physical violence. Can we challenge emotional reactions or do transcendent
principles guide human behavior to justify violence with reason? In early 20th century literature,
violent and hostile acts were fundamental to a protagonist s resolution; authors used this theme to
illustrate the prevalence of evil and question the effects on society when violencewas tolerated.
These works profoundly impacted the overall societal view on the implication of violence as evil.
Contributed to raising consciousness as well as help change the perpetual discrimination at the time.

Madame Valmonde, My own Desiree come: Come home to Valmonde; back to your mother who
loves you. Come with your child (Chopin 424). Desiree confronts Armand one last time and
hands him the letter from her mother and asks him if she should leave, Yes go he answers
(Chopin 424). Once over Desiree asks, Do you want me to go? , Yes I want you to go Armand
answers (Chopin 424). Fueled by anger and hatred Armand disowns Desiree and his child. Armand
s own internalized racism and the perpetual discrimination at the time facilitated his ability to
renounce his clam to marriage and fatherhood. Desiree having a child of the ethnicity Armand
helped keep violently and cruelly enslaved would reveal detrimental to her murder suicide.
Furthermore, what is more tragically revealing is the later unveiling of Armand s true ethnicity
from a letter written by his mother. Armand had hidden away a remnant letter written from his
mother to his father stating, night and day, I thank the good God for having so arranged our lives
that our dear Armand will never know that his mother who adores him, belongs to the race that is
cursed with the brand of slavery (Chopin 425). Armand is aware of his ethnic background, still to
avoid any accountability due to the perpetual societal discrimination at the time he cruelly and
viciously blames Desiree to

The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics
What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of
right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations,
benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal
between what is right or wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before
you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to
do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can
see the diversity on ethicsbecause of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in
beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let
us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you
HealthCare Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices
about medical care. (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the
healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and
responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its
residents. As a healthcare provider, we must possess the good virtue of honesty, the most important
quality we can bring to our job. As the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. Telling the truth is
acceptable when one

Types Of Stress And Loss
Everyone at any given age is faced with different types of stress and loss. As human beings we
continuously evolve onto the next phase of our lives, which bring on new challenges and stress.
Ziegler (2014) indicated that it s a reminder that adult development encompasses both growth
and decline (Ziegler, 2014). Unfortunately, not everyone is equipped to deal with stress,
consequently resorting to maladaptive coping skills, such as: self indulging in over eating,
smoking, and drinking alcohol. Likewise, when dealing with loss, there are maladaptive coping
skills, which are similar as the ones described for stress, but also some may lash out or
avoidance. On the other hand, others adaptively and resiliently bounce back (Zeigler, 2014).
Pollack (1988) stated, no matter how difficult the situation, I will eventually find a way to cope
with it (Pollack, 1988, p. 17). Pollack, is the example of a person who through optimism, a good
support network, resilience, and stress related growth, she was able to get through stressful time
by coping with the loss successfully (Ziegler, 2014). In 1988, Pollack shares her own experience
of losing her husband to colon cancer and how she managed to get herself and family through it. I
particularly learned something interesting about Pollack s experience, as she stated, that she was
grieving, long before his death (Pollack, 1988). Therefore, as she dealt with her own reality, the
ups and the downs, Pollack was ready to be confronted by

Through Office Of Grants Giveaway (HBWC)
The primary purpose of the organization is to uphold improvements in the quality and value of
healthcare grants through government aided research, assessment, and sharing of data. Through
Office of Grants Giveaway (OGG) the company allocates medical donations to hospitals. The
Health Body Wellness Center s (HBWC) through OGG takes an initiative of tracking the grants
distributed to small hospitals, to achieve this, the company has contracted We Automate Anything
(WAA) and given them the responsibility of implementing the small hospital grant tracking system.
This system enables them to allocate and track the gifts within a specified period. OGG assigns
awards to one hospital and follows how they have been utilized within a period of one month. The
unused portion of the subsidy is recalled and issued to another hospital. This is done in a
continuous and rotational manner.
The organization has a security objective of protecting the database from being altered. Since the
data is held in the system, there are regulations that have been set to the users, and there are also
limits to the functions that each user performs. In this case, there are three categories of users each
with clearly defined responsibilities. For instance, the administration team has been given full
control of the application in that they can even alter codes and perform any variations to the
database objects. The other groups of users are the executives; these have the ability to access all

The Legislative Branch Essay
The Legislative Branch The legislative branch is the most powerful branch in government. The
legislative branch is in charge of making and passing laws. They have the power to override a
president s decision, stop laws from being passed, and basically control all decisions the
governments makes. The legislative branch, also called the congress, consists of the House of
Representatives and the senate. The reason for two houses of congress is to balance out the
concerns of smaller but more populated states against states that are larger but with less population
(www.Usgovinfo.com). The House of Representatives consists of 435 elected members that are
divided among the fifty states in proportion to their population. There are also six... Show more

First, the congress can send the bill to the President to be signed and passed into a law. However,
if the President vetoes the bill, it is then sent back to congress. Congress can then take a vote on
the bill and if two thirds vote to pass it, the bill is made into a law. Lastly, the President can
decide to neither sign the bill nor veto the bill. If this happens when the congress is in session,
the bill will become a law after ten days without the President s signature. (Congressforkids.net)
The congress recently sent the Small Business bill to President Obama. The Small Business bill
was passed by congress on September 23 with a 237 187 vote with only nine not voting. The bill
was passed basically by democrats alone. There was only one republican that voted for the bill
and only thirteen democrats voted against the bill (MSNfirstread). Democrats said that they voted
for bill because they understood that small businesses were having trouble getting loans after the
financial crisis that began in December of 2007. The Small Business bill was created to help out
small businesses. The bill includes tax breaks and a thirty billion dollar small business lending
fund. Congress is hoping that this will create more job openings because the businesses must hire a
certain amount of people off the unemployment line. This will insure the percentage of people that
are unemployed to decrease. The bill would raise new business expense deductions from

Dora Maar Essay
A portrait of Dora Maar, painted in 1937 by talented artist Pablo Picasso. The portrait of Dora
Maar is painted in a cubist style. It concentrates many bright colours including yellows, blues,
greens, and oranges towards the face. Yet has many cooler shades of colours such as green,
purple, blue and red towards the torso. The piece portrays Dora Maar in an intimate yet mysterious
way, as she was the partner of Pablo Picassoand he viewed her in this way. The way Pablo Picasso
executed this piece was that it was something more than just a portrait.
The general composition of the artwork has Dora Maar as the focal point. More specifically, her
face, where as if the bodice is the middle ground. With wood panelling as a surrounding
background. Pablo Picasso has achieved these three levels, by using placement, colour and
texture. As this piece is a portrait, it s clear that Dora Maar, Pablo Picasso s partner is meant to be
the focal point. He s drawn attention to her face by applying many different techniques to different
areas of the painting. By using eye catching colours such as yellows, oranges and greens on her
face in conjunction with having the placement of her face at ... Show more content on

element line is most present around Dora Maar s face and he has used the element in this
specific area for a lot of reasons. For example, by using line as an outline for her eyes, face, nose,
etc. He has drawn attention to this area by making this area seem a lot bolder. If you were to
compare the bodice to the face, the face seems to have a lot more detail because of line. By using
line, it has contributed to the interpretation by diverting your eyes to chosen

Criminal Data Analysis Paper
Since the Department of Justice is the largest law firm in the nation, it serves as counsel for its
citizens. The key role in which the Department of Justice has is that it serves in the protection
against criminals and subversion in ensuring healthy competition of business in our free enterprise
system, in safeguarding the consumer, and in enforcing drug, immigration, and naturalization laws.
In identifying the major functions of the four agencies within the Department of Justice, I will give
insights on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the United States
Marshals (U.S.
Marshals). The FBI is the broadest of all federal law enforcement agencies. The FBI has divided its

Stereotypes In Video Games
Every story has a hero, no matter their motive, background, or even their gender. Yes for those
who don t know, there are women in video games. Most are in the background or running around
as an ally or enemy, but what most people don t realize is that there are a lot of games where the
lead is a female. For people who pay more attention to the gaming world, this is more common
knowledge, but there seems to be a misconception. Most think females are nothing but eye candy
for male gamers, but this is simply not true. Not only are femaleprotagonists not represented poorly,
females in general as gamers are just as common.
There are also many female protagonists in games as well. Some of these games give you a
choice to be male or female but it doesn t effect the game experience. They give you almost full
customization abilities for either gender too. Some examples of very successful games that give
you the choice to be male or female and give you almost full customization are Skyrim, Oblivion,
the Fallout series, Saints Row series, Halo 3 and onward, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. There are
many other games that do give you a choice but do not allow you to customize them but, some
games do not let you choose for story reasons. Some of these games are Tom Clancy s Rainbow 6
Siege, Battlefield 1, Portal 1 2, Metroid Series, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

women play games and identify as gamers. As stated, an almost equal number of people play
games no matter gender. This would mean that companies would design their games to be more
unisex, allowing both genders to play and maximise profits. This also ties in with the idea that sex
appeal is given to both male and female characters in games. Why only target half your audience,

The Sandman Worlds End
The Sandman: Worlds End, written by Neil Gaiman in 1994, is a comic novel that explores the
idea of dreams. In the beginning of the novel, Gaiman starts the story with a man, Brant Tucker,
and his fellow friend, Charlene Mooney, travelling by car to Chicago in the month of June. A storm

According to Annalisa Castaldo, an assistant professor of British Literature at Widener
University, the speech style in Sandman: Worlds End provides a chance to illustrate the
fantastic and unreal much more effectively (Castaldo 97). Gaiman adds three different types of
carriers to guide the readers to know when and what the characters are personally saying,
thinking, or doing in an image. This creates for the writing style and the dialog of direct speech
to play a major part in the tone. For its word choice leading to the ideas of misery,
misunderstanding, and dreams, Worlds End holds an aggressive, mysterious, yet hopeful tone to
it. It appears that Gaiman desires for the novel to stimulate his readers to read his piece of
literature as a serious and peculiar manner by including his artistic comic dialog, which adds a

The Factors Associated With Youth Homelessness And Arrest,...
Poverty has long been a consistent characteristic in crime. Numerous theories like Social
Disorganization, Labeling Theory, and Strain Theory have been created to try to explain the
connection between poverty and crime. As these theories demonstrate , the devastating external
factors that poverty causes contribute to crime. Yet, the connection between povertyand crime
continues to deliver new data, adding to the way criminologist analyze crime. These studies
develop new methods including governmental programs , investments in certain areas or change in
tax codes for tackling poverty emerge. Therefore, it is pivotal to continue studying the connection
between poverty and crime to properly a large of factor of crime from its roots.
The article Exploring the Factors Associated With Youth Homelessnessand Arrest, by Kim Fielding
and Cheryl Forchuk discusses the homeless epidemic found throughout Canada. It is estimated that
around 150,000 Canadians are homeless, with around one third of those being juveniles. The article
focuses on juveniles because of their fragile age and their lack of stable environment makes them
prone to commit crimes in order to obtain basic necessities. The study includes interviews, surveys,
and demographics to characterize the homeless participants in order to provide an understanding of
their homeless situation.

The objective is to determine the most cost effective method to decrease the project s deadline. The
project plan discussed below has been generated through the use of a projectplanning scheduling
technique, Critical Path Methodology, to secure the scientific approach. The program schedule
provides a quantitative basis to make managerial decisions to shorten the implementation time of
the overall project.
2. Assumptions and Approximations
The mathematical model created to schedule all the projects is based upon a number of simplifying
assumptions and approximations. These need to be taken into account in order to make an
independent judgment about the model s usefulness.
The assumptions and approximations of this model are:

The description of each activity and the indicated time required for its completion in weeks was

The Threat of a Stereotype
Stereotype threat is present in our everyday lives and it prevents people from doing things to their
fullest abilities. It is the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about you resulting in weaker
performance. An example where stereotype threat exists is in the case where African Americans do
poorly on tests compared to Caucasian individuals. This occurs because the stereotypeis that African
Americans are intellectually inferior to Caucasian people. In a setting where the negative stereotype
is brought to mind, African Americans will perform poorly on tests when in fact they are able to
perform equally as well if not better than Caucasian individuals. (Article 1) Stereotype threat limits
individuals in their performance in academics,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, depending on the task given, the identity that could best accomplish it would
emerge. For example when doing the math test, the student identity emerged and then when doing
the self rating assessment the athletic identity would emerge. Jumping from one identity occurs
when needed but there is the possibility that the stereotype threat surfaces during testing. The
practical implication of this article is that even with control of which identity is activated, the
negative stereotype reminds a person of doing poorly. Researchers Johns, Schmader, and Martens
conducted a study of how to reduce stereotype threat in women s math performance by teaching
them about stereotype threat. When women were told that it was a non diagnostic test they
performed better than men. The other case of reduced threat was when women were taught about
stereotype threat and its effects. In this case women performed almost equally to men. Research
shows us that when women are not reminded of the stereotype or being compared to men they
perform better. Gaining knowledge on stereotype threat reduced the threat. In my opinion I think
this method could work in other situation. Teaching individuals about stereotype threat could be
successful in most people because it will be encouraging and influencing them not to get affected
by it. Although it will be

India And Pakistan Dbq
India and Pakistan emerged from British rule during 1947, while Algerians gained independence
from the French in 1962. However, each new nation rose in very ways. Great Britain attempted to
avoid war, while France fought one with their colony. The British cleverly gave India independence
and withdrew before fighting broke out, unlike the French who stubbornly retaliated against the
violent rebellions of native Algerians with guerrilla warfare. Recognizing Indias partition between
Hindus and Muslims as a step towards war, the British government quickly withdrew and allowed
India to gain independence and settle its own affairs, an insightful choice as it ultimately avoided a
civil war. Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohandas Gandhi both sought an independent,... Show more

The end of WWII fueled Algeria s nationalist sentiments when successful countries called other
countries to rise up against their colonial rulers (Bentley 895). The French realized that its
various colonies were trying to gain independence and the French focused their authority on only
Algeria, allowing all other colonies to gain independence (Bentley 895). That action showed
France s determination to control Algeria, for resources, security of their own country, and their
own honor. Algeria, already motivated by nationalism, was triggered when French authorities
fired shots into a peaceful Algerian nationalist rally in SГ©tif (Bentley 895). Mass revolution
broke out state wide. Unlike the British in India or Pakistan, France dug in its heels and sent half
a million troops to combat rebellions, but that just further inspired the revolutionaries (Bentley
895). They kept fighting the Algerian rebels instead of avoiding violence. One man who helped
motivate insurrection was a man named Frantz Fanon who supported Algerian independence,
specifically by using of violence (Bentley 896). In The Wretched of the Earth, he said violence is
a cleansing force. It frees the native from his inferiority complex and from his despair and inaction
. It gives natives a reason to rebel because there is a chance of success. Fanon

For this reason, new, or marginal, costs are used in its calculation. WACC is calculated by
multiplying the cost of each capital component by its proportional weight and then summing then
together. The capital components included in this calculation are a firms after tax costs of debt,
preferred stock, and common stock.
DebtThe first component of a firms WACC is its cost of debt. This is the effective rate that a
company pays on its current debt. Because interest expenses on debt are deductible, the after tax
cost is used in its calculation. Cost of debt is calculated by multiplying the before tax rate by one
minus the marginal tax rate. As given in the Silicon Valley case assignment handout, SIVMED s
long term debt consists of 9.5% coupon, semiannual payment bonds with 15 years to maturity.
The bonds last traded at a price of $891.00 per $1,000 par value bond. Given this data, SIVMED s
cost of debt is calculated at 6.6% .
It is often questionable as to whether flotation costs are included in the calculation of a firms cost
of debt. Flotation costs are the costs associated with the issuance of new securities. These costs
should be included in this calculation. For debt, however, this value is usually ignored because it is
very small and does not have a significant affect on the outcome of the calculation. Also, when

Case Study On GBL
1. As David Ganong, what is your analysis of the situation?
Background The confectionery industry in Canada
The confectionery industry was divided into four major product lines such as sugar confectionery,
chocolates, cocoa based products, and chewing gums. Most Canadian confectionary goods were
produced in Ontario. There were four major multinational chocolate bar companies and Canada was

Barbara Hepworth Research Paper
Barbara Hepworth
Artist:
Barbara Hepworth was a sculptor artist who produced over 600 pieces in her life time, and she
worked up to her death. She was born in 1903 in the United Kingdom, and died in St Ives,
Cornwall, in 1975. Hepworth moved to St Ives at the beginning of World War 2, 1939. She is
described as a world recognised sculpture in a period where female artists were rare. She grew a
love and passion for her natural surroundings in her new found home. Barbara Hepworth created
her sculptures with passion, I have always loved the joy of carving, and the rhythm of movement
which grows in the sculpture itself, just as I like dancing or skating. I like the relaxation of sound
and movement when I am carving.

Hepworth was sent a large log of wood from her friend. She hadn t with this scale previously and
she said it had given her a whole new perspective on where she could take her artistic practice.
The scale of the log allowed her to carve spaces big enough for her to fit in. It surrounded her
whole body, making her part of the sculptural landscape. I the sculptor am the landscape .
As Hepworth began receiving more public commissions globally, she found that her wooden
works were too precious and difficult to transport long distances. It was around this time (the
1950s) where she began working with metals such as bronze. As an example, Hepworth produced
a large bronze figure Single Form for the United Nations Plaza in New York. Hepworth was highly
acclaimed for her sculptures. She won first prize at the Sou Pour in 1959, allowing her to finance
other larger sculptures, which she did.
Barbara Hepworth explains her practice as being soothing and relaxing, it makes her feel at home
and happy. While always remaining constant to my conviction about truth to material, I ve found a
greater freedom for myself .

A Book On The Principles Of Finding The Dream Job
We have entered the era of the new wealth, in which the meaning of what you are doing is worth
more than money, according to Roman Krznaric. He wrote a book on the principles of finding the
dream job, and highlighted the main points in it. Therefor, every individual has a unique way of
interpreting the meaning of fulfilling work. To a limited extent, the term might refer to a piece of
work that can meet all the sustainable qualities of a given task so as an individual can quickly attain
the fundamental goals that they need.
Various authors are making the statement about the topic. However, the tenacity of this essay is to
describe the book by Roman Krznaric on how an individual can find the fulfilling work.
Nonetheless, it is to provide an analysis of the specific terminologies used in the book and present
suggestions on how best a person could find a fulfilling piece of work.
Based on the various interpretations that have been made by Roman, the book is exploring on
the competition of claims that most people face for their money, the status of life, and eventually
the meaning of their lives. It is a concept that can help an individual find a type of career in
which he can thrive. On the other hand, the idea of fulfilling work in a job market is to find a job
that reflects on an individual s passion, kind of talents, and the personal values (Krznaric 57). It is
often classified as a modern invention but currently an individual s expectations are often higher

The Monitor Theory Of Second Language Acquisition
Stephen Krashen is an expert in the field of linguistics, specializing in the theories of language
acquisition and its development. His ideas have been for a long time a source of ideas for
research in second language acquisition (Lightbown Spada, 2006, p.38). In the early 1970s, he
proposed the Monitor Model theory of second language acquisition, which is consists of five main
hypotheses: the acquisition learning hypotheses, the monitor hypotheses, the input hypotheses, the
natural order hypotheses and the affective filter hypotheses. Krashen s theory is considered to be
One of the most controversial theoretical perspectives in SLA in the last quarter of the twentieth
century (Brown, 2000, p.277). Despite Krashen s success to make acquiring... Show more content

So because of the previous quotation, The Input Hypotheses has been for a long time an
argument point between most of the critics. One of them is McLaughlin (1987) comment that
Krashen has never defined what does he meant by comprehensible input term. Also according to
The input hypotheses is that acquisition occurs when one is exposed to language that is
comprehensible and that contains i + 1 (Lightbown Spada, 2006, p.37). Here at this point, he has
not given an exact definition for i +1, which is ambiguity and unclear, furthermore, McLaughlin
(1987, p.37) said that i +1 structures as unknown structures . Therefore, Krashen for the first time
states that i is referred to our current level of competence and then i +1 means the next level
along the nature order (Krashen, 1985, p.2). Long (1983) agreed with Krashen that
comprehensible input is necessary for language acquisition. However, he focused more on the
question of how input could be made comprehensible (Lightbown Spada, 2006, p. 42). He seems
to be talking about only one s level of competence . He then limits this type of competence to
grammar alone and interprets i +1 as structures at our next stage (ibid). Despite this inconsistency,
Krashen is more inclined to a general level of competence in grammar

Persuasive Essay On Winning Games
The thrill of winning a trophy for the first time is always memorable, however, it brings up the
question: Is receiving an award for participating just as exciting? Participation awards are a topic
highly debated among those of all ages, with none agreeing on a single answer. Individuals who are
under the impression that they are essential believe they boost a childs confidence and self esteem.
This may be true in some cases, but these trophies could be doing more harm than good. Although
in the moment they may appear to be wholesome, they have a lasting effect on children as they
grow older. Many children put loads of effort into winning awards, which is belittled by
participation trophies that are not only unhelpful and unrewarding, but don t teach them the
important values learned by losing.
Of course, participation trophies take away from the true meaning of receiving an award and
enjoying the sport. Her daughter rarely showed up for her soccer team. She had a terrible
attitude, Dweck says. In spite of that, at the end she got a giant trophy and would have been
devastated had she not (Turner). Children who put no effort into the sport or activity they have
joined still receive an award for being a part of it. This is extremely unfair to those who actually
worked hard to make their team successful because it rewards the kids who were barely even
engaged in the sport. We need look no further than the 2011 World Series for the value of earning

Social Injustice In Antigone
In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the
public? As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still
suffers many social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should
protest and fight for their rights, but not without considering the consequences.
Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as
seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her
plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you
come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy
during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning
in the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree
without considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for
violating Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a
great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her
lack of sensitivity and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions
reflect the lack of consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment
when protesting Creon s decree.

Persuasive Essay On Lack Of Education
America under our Constitution gives us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We have great American people such as, John Hunter, Michael Bennett, Aimee Guidera, and
Kaya Henderson fighting for equality among education. However, kids gradually lose hope,
their learning potential crumbles , fewer and fewer opportunities remain open, and kids slowly
slip away. Savage inequalities among education greatly exist in American. Few can dispute that
we have the opportunity to set our own goals and standards. Just by turning on the tv , reading
articles, magazines and even going on social media clearly not everyone is given the same
opportunities or privileges. It is very disappointing that only few are paying attention to these poor
disadvantaged kids. The U.S. does not provide access to the American Dream because of the lack
of education and opportunities, kids are constantly cheated out of their futures. Yes, it is true that
all students have the opportunity to go to school, but some kids have to deal with major
disadvantages. Few actually know the sights, sounds, and smells of ghetto schools. James Baldwin
once quoted not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is
faced .Those living in la la land that thinks that everyone has the same opportunities needs to wake
up. This is not playtime, there are boys and girls who are struggling for basic needs. Right here in
America their are kids in: East St. Louis, Camden New Jersey, Washington D.C., Bronx New York,
San Antonio Texas, Cincinnati Ohio, southside Chicago, Detroit Michigan, and Alabama who are
not given the equal chances to rise in the world. These kids are faced with but not limited to
poverty, lack of education, crime, dilapidated housing, insufficient healthcare, hunger and
unemployment. East St. Louis the most distressed city in America , the bottom 98% of the

The study of humanities allows us to explore the ways in which the changing concepts of nature

were never even thought of as rights before this document was drafted in 1215 C.E. Lastly,

Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups
Abstract
This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of
blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that
due to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant
prejudice and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The
results demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice,
contradicting many previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian
population, making it unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also
been suggested that the social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness
by majority groups, as they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers.
Another worthy discussion point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a
majority dominated society.
How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and
Blatant Prejudice
In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies
(Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural
affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority
groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). Previous research in the area of racial prejudice has also

Cultural Differences Between Usa And America
Does the ocean separate cultures? Location doesn t dictate the things we do traditionally or daily.
In any two locations there are just as many similarities as there are differences. Differences in
living standards, food, and transportation stand out more because they may not be as practical in a
specific location. Japan and America outdo each other in comparison and relate in so many ways
except size.
America has an abundant amount of space for expansion. New houses are being bought and land is
sold every day. An apartmentor house may have rooms ranging from none to as much as the heart
desires. Families can completely seclude themselves with thick walls and doors in their home.
Dinner time may be the couch or the dinner table. In America a yard is cherished by some and
neglected by others. Children are driven to school or they take the bus. Community or
personnel pools may be available or spotted in some one s back yard for swimming. Due to
japans small size and rising population, space is limited. Acres of land or even a yard is hard to
come by but those who do poses land use it to grow vegetables or fruit. There are more apartment
buildings then houses. A Japanese Two bedroom apartment may look like an American studio and
houses are considered luxury. Dedicated to dinner specifically, homes in japan have tatami rooms.

nearly impossible to survive with only a high school education; being well qualified for a
specific career position is very important to employers. George Leef, author of Why on Earth Do
We Have a Student Loan Crisis ?, says it best when he states that college graduates are somewhat
more reliable and easily trained than people with only high school diplomas ... if there is a large
enough number of [people] with college degrees, employers don t have to bother with people
who don t have them (Leef 29). That being said, I wonder how young people are expected to
obtain some sort of degree, when higher education is nearly impossible for some families to afford.
Although very significant changes have been made by our government offering improved financial
aid to current and future students, more can still be done. Our politicians could increase the Pell
Grant maximum to coincide with rising tuition costs, increase taxes on irrelevant goods and
services to provide students with more direct funding, set up a reward system that would place more
responsibility on the students (rather than themselves), and most importantly, our two main parties
in office need to agree on specific changes.
Appropriate steps have been made by our politicians towards offering enhanced financial support for
students.

Excessive Survivalism Is A Sport
Excessive survivalism is a sport in when athletes are obsessed with winning and will do
anything to achieve that goal of winning. Players will find ways to bend the rules or cheat just to
achieve the victory over their opponent. The need to win games will overrule the player s
morals and beliefs as a person. This is a huge problem athletes face when it comes to sports.
They become so obsessed with winning that it becomes the only objective they focus on. Some
athletes even put their health at risk. In some cases athletes will sustain an injury and will not
let the team know so they can take the proper protocol just so they can they can stay in the game.
In other cases, a player may do something that is considered dirty or against the rules just to get
the edge over their opponent, and that might not be how the player is as a person outside of
their sport but when it comes to the game they will do anything they need to do survive and win.
Runaway individualism in sports is when a player is all about their self. Players that tend to
have runaway individualism are the ones who are only worried about their own success instead
of team success. These players do not look at their team as a family, they see their teammates as
individuals who they just have to share the field or court with. These players usually do not have a
stable home, they bounce around from team to team because they are labeled as selfish players. A
perfect example of runaway individualism is when

The Watchmen Mythology
The Watchmen is a action, mystery, and sci fi film which is directed by Zack Snyder and tells
the story of a dystopia 1985. Each character in the film has their own significance and through the
flashbacks of certain characters we find out how the world, and the characters, ended up the way
they did. When the group of retired superheroes return from their retirement, they are called back
together once again to investigate the murder of the comedian who is one of their own. The death
of the comedian leads to his investigation which also leads Rorschach on the journey of a
monumental conspiracy. After analyzing the film the evidence of philosophy ideas and theories is
very clear. With this particular sci fi film it is quite debatable to have... Show more content on

An example of a character representing an ethical theory is Ozymandias. Ozymandias represents
the theory of pleasure and pain as he focuses particularly on organized crime and earning a
reputation as the smartest man on the planet. Jeremy Bentham the philosopher believed that
pleasure and pain are the two motivating forces in life. Ozymandias knows that to gain the
pleasure in what he wants can cause pain but he chose the decision in life in which would give
him a higher output of pleasure and a lower output of pain and in the end he is deemed as the
smartest man in the world. Another example of ethical theories is how Ozymandius has a
utilitarianism approach. He believes that the greatest amount of good done to the greatest
amount of people is the right way to go, even if it involves killing or lying and this belief if
called utilitarianism. In The Watchmen, Ozymandius displays his own ethical theory which
leads to him sort of helping save millions of lives because in the film he tries to make Doctor
Manhattan seem like the bad guy. He believes that humans are not capable of avoiding a nuclear
war because in his eyes World War III is inevitable and billions will be killed for sure. In the end,
Ozymandius actions are right because they are useful and are for the benefit of a majority of
people. Finally, Rorschach is also an example of a character in The

How Does Jane Austen Use Anne Elliot Respond To Peer...
In the excerpt from Jane Austen s novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot is faced with a decision normally
seen as a dream come true by nineteenth century women of marrying her knighted cousin. However,
in true Brothers Grimm fashion, Anne was reluctant to enter into the incestious relationship of her
dreams even at the wishes of close familyfriend, Lady Russell. Through her narrative techniques of
selection of time frame, character selection, and an omniscient point of view, Austen illustrated
the nature of the proposed relationship and the desires of both Lady Russell and Anne. The time
frame Austen selected for her story emphasized the weight of the proposed union set in a time
where titles were worth more than life, the scenario of marrying a knighted man and being able to
keep it within the family bloodline was a win in all aspects. The knowledge of how great an impact
the marriagewould have on Anne s family name brought a greater gravity to her doubts on the
marriage and put her in a position where, upon declining the proposal, could lead to her social
ostracization.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no regard to true love, Lady Russell saw the marriage between Anne and Sir Elliot as a

word, willing to leave the matter to its own operation; and believing that, could Mr Elliot at that
moment with propriety have spoken for himself! she believed, in short, what Anne did not

people of the age, caused her to firmly believe in the proposed relationship and viewed a rejection

The Context And Theory Of Corporate Governance
01 The context and theory of corporate governance 1.1 The meaning and purpose of corporate
governance Corporate governance broadly refers to the mechanisms, processes and relations by
which corporations are controlled and directed. Corporate governance has also been more narrowly
defined as a system of law and sound approaches by which corporations are directed and controlled
focusing on the internal and external corporate structures with the intention of monitoring the
actions of management and directors and thereby, mitigating agency risks which may stem from the
misdeeds of corporate officers. Governance structures and principles identify the distribution of

1.3 The development of corporate governance and corporate governance theory Corporate
governance is a relatively new area and its development has been affected by theories from a
number of disciplines, including finance, economics, accounting, law, management, and
organisational behavior. Agency theory has probably affected the development of the corporate
governance framework the most. Agency theory identifies the agency relationship where one party,
the principal, delegates work to another party, the agent. In the context of a corporation, the owners
are the principal and the directors are the agent. In addition, there are other theories that have
affected the development of corporate governance, which include: transaction costs economics,
stakeholder theory, and stewardship theory. The development of corporate governance is a global
occurrence and, as such, is a complex area including legal, cultural, ownership, and other structural
differences. Therefore, some theories may be more appropriate and relevant to some countries than
others. 1.4 Theories of corporate governance There are a range of theories in corporate governance,
such theories address the cause and effect of variables. Agency Identifies the agency relationship

Economic Challenges Before The Great Depression In The US
Just as the world has experienced economic challenges in the past, so is it today. Before the
Great Depression took place in the USA in 1929,USA had witnessed 19 recessions. And we have
continued to encounter economic recessions to this day, the most recent one being that of 2008
which began in the USA but also had ripple effects on the entire global economy. These economic
recessions have a negative impact on the well being of human kind. For example during the period
of the Great Depressionin the USA: 12 million people lost their employment, 85 thousand
businesses collapsed and a multitude of households were unable to hold their homes.

The Effects Of Global Warming On Earth s Climate
Throughout history the Earth has warmed and cooled time and time again. Climate changes due to
subtle shifts in orbit, the atmosphere or surface, changing, or the Sun energy varying. Now the
force that has the greatest influence on Earth s climate is humanity. Human activity since the
Industrial Revolution has affected the climate because the burning of fossil fuels has an impact on
the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon, but due to
human activity there are increased levels of greenhouse gases. The increased levels, trap the sun s
energy and it warms the planet s surface above the normal temperature. It s the equilibrium of the
incoming and outgoing of the sun s energy that make Earth habitable, but now there is an offset
because more is being trapped. The offset is global warming. Global warming is the unusually
rapid increase in Earth s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the
greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels. The arctic places are primarily impacted
by global warming and place that arose with the most concern is Alaska. Alaska is home to wildlife
and human inhabitants. The main concern is that Alaska is melting and will continue to melt in the
future. If Alaska continues to be affected by global warming, then there will be a large impact on
the state as a whole.

The Consequences Of Soil Diversity
The human population is projected to reach 10 billion by 2050. This growth will demand almost
twice of currently globally produced agricultural products. However, long periods of intensive
agriculture have resulted in soil nutrient depletion, salinity accumulation, and acidification of
agricultural soils, resulting in an overall reduction of the soils ability to support a growing
population (Godfray et al., 2010; Smith et al., 2013, Tillman et al 2011, Ray et al 2013). Despite
the fact that soil is one of the mankind s most essential and threatened resources, supporting food
production, wildlife biodiversity, and playing a central role in biogeochemical cycling (Carpenter et
al., 2009). Currently, one of the main practices applied to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, these studies have only a limited focus on the fate of environmental mobile element

Essay Comparing Half Caste And Search For My Tongue Culture
Comparing Half Caste and Search for my Tongue
Culture. It s a very complicated term, with many different interpretations, but what does it actually
mean? In this essay I will compare two poems from completely different cultures to see if we get
any comparisons, the poems I have chosen to write about are Half Caste by John Agard and Search
for my Tongue by Sujata Bhatt, I have chosen these because I feel they raise some very significant
points. But back to the question mentioned earlier, what is culture? Everyone has a different view
on culture, but to me it is a huge influence on our everyday lives, many different issues contribute
to the term Culture from the way we dress, to our beliefs, attributes, how we live, and

For example, John Agard was originally from Guyana but moved to
England in 1977, his mother was Portuguese but born in Guyana and his father is black. One of
the things he likes about living in England is the wide range of people he meets: The diversity of
cultures here is very exciting . He is very passionate about his culture and gets highly agitated by
the view of racial origins, which is implied in the word Half Caste . This term is now considered
rude and insulting.
The other poem that I am studying is Search for my Tongue by Sujata
Bhatt; once again I have done some preliminary research just to get a feel for the author herself. I
was able to find out that; Sujata Bhatt was born in the Indian state of Gujarat, where her mother
tongue was
Gujarati. Later, her family lived for some years in the United States, where she learned English. She
now lives in Germany. She has chosen to write poems in English, rather than Gujarati. But a
number of her poems, including the one I am studying, are written in both languages.
In an interview with the BBC she says, I have always thought of myself as an Indian who is
outside India . Her mother tongue is for her an important link to her family, and to her childhood,
That s the deepest layer of my identity , and therefore is a very sensitive issue for her.
Now for the difficult information, what are the poems about?! I

How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt
Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new
mathematic theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and
undoubtable by his critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt.
Methodic doubt is a way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable
knowledge) by systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he
believed that if we say that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing
that must be based on irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a
barrel of apples, going through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Therefore
Descartes went about using methodic doubt as a way to create a firm foundation for these beliefs
by first doubting all knowledge, reality and our own existence. In his first meditation Descartes
doubts all our senses saying that there is no way to prove that they are not... Show more content on

methodic doubt but this conclusion he comes to only rebuilds a minor part of it, he does not
His procedure of doubting the senses can be defended in part because although one can doubt
the sense s because there is no way to prove that they are not deceiving us, Descartes gives proof
of this argument when he gives the sample of objects appearing differently when they are far
away from us. But this argument is flawed because we know that we are being deceived by our
senses in this case because we know when our senses are wrong only because we also know when
they are right and that we are not being

Essay on Loss In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop
One Art by Elizabeth Bishop is a poem that explores loss in comparison to an art; however, this
art is not one to be envied or sought after to succeed at. Everyone has experienced loss as the art
of losing is presented as inevitably simple to master. The speaker s attitude toward loss becomes
gradually more serious as the poem progresses.
Keys, having virtually no reason for emotional attachment, are mentioned in line 5 with a tone of
acceptance that, Yes, it is okay to lose keys. Although vital to the penetration of a lock, keys are
such a generic object that they can be easily replaced and, aside from the inability to open that
door, will not be missed for long. Lines 2 and 3 state that so many things seem filled with the intent

At this point in the poem, the speaker s attitude toward loss is rather blasГ© due to the fact that the
items she has misplaced holds no emotional attachment and can be replaced.
As the poem progresses, the misplaced or forgotten items become concepts such as names and ideas,
and therefore carry more of an impact. For example, forgetting someone s name, however not
uncommon, can be associated with feelings of embarrassment from the forgettor, and annoyance
from the forgotten when they discover that they were not important enough to be remembered. The
speaker simply shrugs off these losses because None of [them] will bring disaster, as mentioned in
line 9. Emotion, often associated with memories is introduced in line 10 when the speaker
announces, I lost my mother s watch. An item such as a mother s watch holds sentimental value,
unlike the previously mentioned keys; however, the speaker repeats, I miss them, but it wasn t a
disaster, (line 15) indicating that the watch was merely a material possession crowded with
memories. At this point, the reader recognizes the feeling of missing something associated with
greater losses of objects and ideas the speaker regards with more emotional attachment.
In line 16, the speaker s emotional attitude toward loss changes as it becomes evident that the
speaker has lost a person, yet they still view loss as a part of

The gross domestic product did increase to some extent as the years passed. According to Bakker, simultaneously, alter globalization activists have promoted alternative water governance models through North South red green alliances between organized labour, environmental groups, women s groups, and indigenous groups (Bakker, 2007, pg. 1). Some of these people live in Africa, Iraq, Iran, etc. Some people did not want international economic links. According to Bakker, I first present a generic conceptual model of market environmentalist reforms, and explore the contribution of this framework to debates over neoliberal zing nature (Bakker, 2007, pg. 1). • 3. The Role Of Violence In Early 20th Century Literature Violence seems so intrinsic to history individuals appear desensitized to the implications of subtle, vicious, or aggressive physical violence. Can we challenge emotional reactions or do transcendent principles guide human behavior to justify violence with reason? In early 20th century literature, violent and hostile acts were fundamental to a protagonist s resolution; authors used this theme to illustrate the prevalence of evil and question the effects on society when violencewas tolerated. These works profoundly impacted the overall societal view on the implication of violence as evil. Contributed to raising consciousness as well as help change the perpetual discrimination at the time. On January 14, 1893, Vogue Magazine published an illuminating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once over Desiree asks, Do you want me to go? , Yes I want you to go Armand answers (Chopin 424). Fueled by anger and hatred Armand disowns Desiree and his child. Armand s own internalized racism and the perpetual discrimination at the time facilitated his ability to renounce his clam to marriage and fatherhood. Desiree having a child of the ethnicity Armand helped keep violently and cruelly enslaved would reveal detrimental to her murder suicide. Furthermore, what is more tragically revealing is the later unveiling of Armand s true ethnicity from a letter written by his mother. Armand had hidden away a remnant letter written from his mother to his father stating, night and day, I thank the good God for having so arranged our lives that our dear Armand will never know that his mother who adores him, belongs to the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery (Chopin 425). • 4. The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is right or wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on ethicsbecause of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you HealthCare Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care. (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its residents. As a healthcare provider, we must possess the good virtue of honesty, the most important quality we can bring to our job. As the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. • 5. Types Of Stress And Loss Everyone at any given age is faced with different types of stress and loss. As human beings we continuously evolve onto the next phase of our lives, which bring on new challenges and stress. Ziegler (2014) indicated that it s a reminder that adult development encompasses both growth and decline (Ziegler, 2014). Unfortunately, not everyone is equipped to deal with stress, consequently resorting to maladaptive coping skills, such as: self indulging in over eating, smoking, and drinking alcohol. Likewise, when dealing with loss, there are maladaptive coping skills, which are similar as the ones described for stress, but also some may lash out or avoidance. On the other hand, others adaptively and resiliently bounce back (Zeigler, 2014). Pollack (1988) stated, no matter how difficult the situation, I will eventually find a way to cope with it (Pollack, 1988, p. 17). Pollack, is the example of a person who through optimism, a good support network, resilience, and stress related growth, she was able to get through stressful time by coping with the loss successfully (Ziegler, 2014). In 1988, Pollack shares her own experience of losing her husband to colon cancer and how she managed to get herself and family through it. I particularly learned something interesting about Pollack s experience, as she stated, that she was grieving, long before his death (Pollack, 1988). Therefore, as she dealt with her own reality, the ups and the downs, Pollack was ready to be confronted by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Health Body Wellness Center s (HBWC) through OGG takes an initiative of tracking the grants distributed to small hospitals, to achieve this, the company has contracted We Automate Anything (WAA) and given them the responsibility of implementing the small hospital grant tracking system. The unused portion of the subsidy is recalled and issued to another hospital. This is done in a continuous and rotational manner. The organization has a security objective of protecting the database from being altered. Since the data is held in the system, there are regulations that have been set to the users, and there are also limits to the functions that each user performs. In this case, there are three categories of users each with clearly defined responsibilities. For instance, the administration team has been given full control of the application in that they can even alter codes and perform any variations to the database objects. It concentrates many bright colours including yellows, blues, greens, and oranges towards the face. Yet has many cooler shades of colours such as green, purple, blue and red towards the torso. The piece portrays Dora Maar in an intimate yet mysterious way, as she was the partner of Pablo Picassoand he viewed her in this way. More specifically, her face, where as if the bodice is the middle ground. With wood panelling as a surrounding background. Most are in the background or running around as an ally or enemy, but what most people don t realize is that there are a lot of games where the lead is a female. For people who pay more attention to the gaming world, this is more common knowledge, but there seems to be a misconception. This occurs because the stereotypeis that African Americans are intellectually inferior to Caucasian people. That action showed France s determination to control Algeria, for resources, security of their own country, and their own honor. So because of the previous quotation, The Input Hypotheses has been for a long time an argument point between most of the critics. One of them is McLaughlin (1987) comment that Krashen has never defined what does he meant by comprehensible input term. Also according to The input hypotheses is that acquisition occurs when one is exposed to language that is comprehensible and that contains i + 1 (Lightbown Spada, 2006, p.37). Here at this point, he has not given an exact definition for i +1, which is ambiguity and unclear, furthermore, McLaughlin (1987, p.37) said that i +1 structures as unknown structures . Therefore, Krashen for the first time states that i is referred to our current level of competence and then i +1 means the next level along the nature order (Krashen, 1985, p.2). Long (1983) agreed with Krashen that comprehensible input is necessary for language acquisition. However, he focused more on the question of how input could be made comprehensible (Lightbown Spada, 2006, p. 42). He seems to be talking about only one s level of competence . He then limits this type of competence to grammar alone and interprets i +1 as structures at our next stage (ibid). Just by turning on the tv , reading articles, magazines and even going on social media clearly not everyone is given the same opportunities or privileges. It is very disappointing that only few are paying attention to these poor disadvantaged kids. The U.S. does not provide access to the American Dream because of the lack of education and opportunities, kids are constantly cheated out of their futures. Yes, it is true that all students have the opportunity to go to school, but some kids have to deal with major disadvantages. Few actually know the sights, sounds, and smells of ghetto schools. James Baldwin once quoted not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced .Those living in la la land that thinks that everyone has the same opportunities needs to wake up. This is not playtime, there are boys and girls who are struggling for basic needs. Right here in America their are kids in: East St. Louis, Camden New Jersey, Washington D.C., Bronx New York, San Antonio Texas, Cincinnati Ohio, southside Chicago, Detroit Michigan, and Alabama who are not given the equal chances to rise in the world. Gothic architecture dominated the architectural style of Western Europe for over 400 years. The Gothic style was not only used in Churches but it also was seen in whole towns. Gothic architects designed courthouses, hospitals, town halls and royal palaces. • 33. Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups Abstract This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that due to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant prejudice and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The results demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice, contradicting many previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian population, making it unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also been suggested that the social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness by majority groups, as they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers. Another worthy discussion point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a majority dominated society. How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and Blatant Prejudice In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies (Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). Players will find ways to bend the rules or cheat just to achieve the victory over their opponent. The need to win games will overrule the player s morals and beliefs as a person. This is a huge problem athletes face when it comes to sports. They become so obsessed with winning that it becomes the only objective they focus on. Some athletes even put their health at risk. In some cases athletes will sustain an injury and will not let the team know so they can take the proper protocol just so they can they can stay in the game. In other cases, a player may do something that is considered dirty or against the rules just to get the edge over their opponent, and that might not be how the player is as a person outside of their sport but when it comes to the game they will do anything they need to do survive and win. Runaway individualism in sports is when a player is all about their self. Players that tend to have runaway individualism are the ones who are only worried about their own success instead of team success. These players do not look at their team as a family, they see their teammates as individuals who they just have to share the field or court with. Climate changes due to subtle shifts in orbit, the atmosphere or surface, changing, or the Sun energy varying. Now the force that has the greatest influence on Earth s climate is humanity. Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has affected the climate because the burning of fossil fuels has an impact on the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon, but due to human activity there are increased levels of greenhouse gases. The increased levels, trap the sun s energy and it warms the planet s surface above the normal temperature. It s the equilibrium of the incoming and outgoing of the sun s energy that make Earth habitable, but now there is an offset because more is being trapped. The offset is global warming. Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth s average surface temperature over the past century, primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossil fuels. The arctic places are primarily impacted by global warming and place that arose with the most concern is Alaska. Alaska is home to wildlife and human inhabitants. It s a very complicated term, with many different interpretations, but what does it actually mean? In this essay I will compare two poems from completely different cultures to see if we get any comparisons, the poems I have chosen to write about are Half Caste by John Agard and Search for my Tongue by Sujata Bhatt, I have chosen these because I feel they raise some very significant points. But back to the question mentioned earlier, what is culture? Everyone has a different view on culture, but to me it is a huge influence on our everyday lives, many different issues contribute to the term Culture from the way we dress, to our beliefs, attributes, how we live, and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, John Agard was originally from Guyana but moved to England in 1977, his mother was Portuguese but born in Guyana and his father is black. One of the things he likes about living in England is the wide range of people he meets: The diversity of cultures here is very exciting . He is very passionate about his culture and gets highly agitated by the view of racial origins, which is implied in the word Half Caste . This term is now considered rude and insulting. The other poem that I am studying is Search for my Tongue by Sujata Bhatt; once again I have done some preliminary research just to get a feel for the author herself. I was able to find out that; Sujata Bhatt was born in the Indian state of Gujarat, where her mother tongue was Gujarati. Later, her family lived for some years in the United States, where she learned English. She now lives in Germany. She has chosen to write poems in English, rather than Gujarati. But a number of her poems, including the one I am studying, are written in both languages. In an interview with the BBC she says, I have always thought of myself as an Indian who is outside India . Her mother tongue is for her an important link to her family, and to her childhood, That s the deepest layer of my identity , and therefore is a very sensitive issue for her. Now for the difficult information, what are the poems about?! I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new mathematic theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and undoubtable by his critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt. Methodic doubt is a way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable knowledge) by systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he believed that if we say that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing that must be based on irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a barrel of apples, going through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Therefore Descartes went about using methodic doubt as a way to create a firm foundation for these beliefs by first doubting all knowledge, reality and our own existence. In his first meditation Descartes doubts all our senses saying that there is no way to prove that they are not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes we can not trust that anything actually exists apart from our own consciousness, he s conclusion of I think there for I am but that is all that one can prove, you can not say You think there for you are . Descartes essentially breaks down all knowledge and human life with his methodic doubt but this conclusion he comes to only rebuilds a minor part of it, he does not His procedure of doubting the senses can be defended in part because although one can doubt the sense s because there is no way to prove that they are not deceiving us, Descartes gives proof of this argument when he gives the sample of objects appearing differently when they are far away from us. But this argument is flawed because we know that we are being deceived by our senses in this case because we know when our senses are wrong only because we also know when they are right and that we are not being ... • 56. Essay on Loss In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop One Art by Elizabeth Bishop is a poem that explores loss in comparison to an art; however, this art is not one to be envied or sought after to succeed at. Everyone has experienced loss as the art of losing is presented as inevitably simple to master. The speaker s attitude toward loss becomes gradually more serious as the poem progresses. Keys, having virtually no reason for emotional attachment, are mentioned in line 5 with a tone of acceptance that, Yes, it is okay to lose keys. Although vital to the penetration of a lock, keys are such a generic object that they can be easily replaced and, aside from the inability to open that door, will not be missed for long. Lines 2 and 3 state that so many things seem filled with the intent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point in the poem, the speaker s attitude toward loss is rather blasГ© due to the fact that the items she has misplaced holds no emotional attachment and can be replaced. As the poem progresses, the misplaced or forgotten items become concepts such as names and ideas, and therefore carry more of an impact. For example, forgetting someone s name, however not uncommon, can be associated with feelings of embarrassment from the forgettor, and annoyance from the forgotten when they discover that they were not important enough to be remembered. The speaker simply shrugs off these losses because None of [them] will bring disaster, as mentioned in line 9. Emotion, often associated with memories is introduced in line 10 when the speaker announces, I lost my mother s watch. An item such as a mother s watch holds sentimental value, unlike the previously mentioned keys; however, the speaker repeats, I miss them, but it wasn t a disaster, (line 15) indicating that the watch was merely a material possession crowded with memories. At this point, the reader recognizes the feeling of missing something associated with greater losses of objects and ideas the speaker regards with more emotional attachment. In line 16, the speaker s emotional attitude toward loss changes as it becomes evident that the speaker has lost a person, yet they still view loss as a part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
