2. The Progressive Movement Of The American Progressive Era
When it comes to the American Progressive Era there is really no other movement like it. This was a
movement that had not just one but many faces that ranged from people as big as Theodore Roosevelt
and Woodrow Wilson to people like Jane Addams that accomplished so much. It was a movement so
broad that it encompassed basically everyone and spoke not just to but for all those excluded from
power. It also wasn t just one big movement but a conglomeration of them varying from social, to
economic, to political. After the Gilded Age and the rapid start of Industrialization many Americans
were concerned that urbanization as well as trusts and monopolies were taking over the nation. In
theory the Progressive movement was a response to this as well as the breakdown of representative
government, the exploitation of women and children, and the growth of financial and industrial
concentration.
Jane Addams particular role in the movement showed how it wasn t just the unhappy elite or middle
class who wanted change but also the women, immigrants, blacks, and the poor. With the writing of
her book Twenty Years at Hull House Addams wanted to share the beliefs and ideals that she had
always nurtured and tried to accomplish. This was her belief in bringing all members of society into
the scope of democracy and to reach a compromise that protected the rights of the individual while
fulfilling the need of the nation as a whole. Progressives as a whole usually drew from either the

1. Explain the pathoplysiology of acute renal failure. Including perenal, intraernal and posternal
causes. Acute renal failure is when the kidneys have suddenly stopped working this disease disables
the body s mechanism of excreting waste products and maintaining fluid electrolyte balance.
According to WebMD, the causes are characterized as a sudden decrease of blood flow to the kidneys,
damage from some medications, poisons, or infections, a sudden blockage that stops urine from
flowing out of the kidney.
Prerenal failure is caused by the perfusion of the kidney which then results to reduced cardiac output

5. Gung Ho
Gung Ho
I recently read Gung Ho! written by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles. This book gives a unique
perspective on the leader versus manager concepts. It depicts the struggles a General Manager faces as
she is given the daunting task of running Walton Works # 2. This book shows how motivation,
appreciation, and respect can help to transform a self destructive plant into a thriving successful
business.
While on the surface Peggy Sinclair, the General Manager, thought that she was being rewarded, it did
not take longer than one day on the job to realize she was being set up. She had authored a staff
study which concluded that Old Man Morris s new strategic plan had a fatal flaw (Blanchard 2).
Though he had admitted there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Andy believed that information is the gatekeeper to power. [He] wanted the team in charge, with the
power to make decisions and make things happen (Blanchard 112). The finishing department had
charts and reports hanging on the walls. Sharing this information allows for employees to know that
what they do impacts others and any safe time saving techniques they can develop or any time passing
with no injuries can positively affect the bottom line.
Andy and Peggy were transformational leaders. They inspire[d] people to do the unexpected, above
and beyond the plan (Kreitner 511). They wanted the employees to think outside the box and also to
be proud of the work they did each day. Taking pride in what they did improved the quality and
efficiency of the work and in turn helped to bolster morale throughout the plant.
A management style used in Gung Ho was delegation. Delegation is assigning various degrees of
decision making authority to lower level employees (Kreitner 337). When Walton Works #2 was going
through the process of achieving Gung Ho, there were many job responsibilities that the employees
absorbed. The employees had morning group motivational huddles. They would meet first thing in the
morning and discuss as a team the game plan for the day. The work schedule was not set by the
manager but it was discussed in the huddle. The decision to take machinery off line to perform
maintenance was not decided by the manager but by the

6. Review Of The Movie Contemporary Japanese Cinema
In contemporary Japanese cinema, a common theme that is portrayed is that of the failing family.
Films with this theme show families that do not fit the ideal family image and are instead riddled with
issues and problems that conflict that prevent the families from being whole and can lead to the
separation and breakage of them. One film that has aspects of the failing family theme is Ringu (1998)
directed by Hideo Nakata; a film about a tape that curses and kills the viewer in seven days after
watching which prompts the lead character, Reiko Asakawa, to stop the curse. The failing family
theme is expressed through two different families, Reiko s family and Sadako s family, which both
show, in different ways, the failings of their respective families and what those themes convey in their
depiction. These families show together how the failings and problems they have impact the family
members in negative ways.
Reiko s family is one example of the failing family theme in Ringu. Reiko is a single mother, divorced
from her ex husband Ryuji, who lives with her son Yoichi on their own. She is independent, and able
to financially provide for the both of them as a journalist. This separates her from the traditional
domestic Japanese woman ideal as she lives independently from any patriarchal figure (Wee, p. 157).
However, the film implies that Reiko is not home as often as she should as she mentions to Ryuji that
Yoichi is fine on his own because he is used to it (Nakata, 1998).

7. Analysis Of Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain
Tanha Uddin Professor Ohanenye English 1301 17 September 2016 Analysis of Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford There are quite a few things out there in the world that are
unknown by most humans, and one such thing was brought to light by Jessica Mitford. Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain is a very detailed passage written by Jessica Mitford, describing the highly
unknown process of embalming a corpse goes through before being presented at their funeral.
Throughout the passage, Mitford uses description as her way to present the entire information
regarding the topic, while using chronological order as a subordinate in order to mildly state the many
steps taken, and cause and effect to show the impact embalming had on others rather ... Show more

These subordinates helped enhance the information being shared by Mitford. The chronological order
helped determine the order at which the process of embalming occurred, making it easier for readers
to get a mental view of the situation. For example, Mitford starts by stating: The body is first laid out
in the undertaker s morgue (239), and then proceeds to state, step by step, what occurs afterwards.
Another thing noticeable in the passage, was the cause and effect portrayed, as related to embalming.
As it was a not so well known thing for the majority of the world, embalming seemed to have different
reactions from people. After one English woman participated in a funeral in San Francisco, she came
across one such corpse that was embalmed, and as a result she stated: Then and there I decided that I
could never face another American funeral even dead.

smoothly. He was born in a castle in the Okazaki Castle Mikawa to his parents, Matsudaira Hirotada
and Odai no kata, or Lady Odai. He lived from 1543 to 1616. Ieyasu was born for greatness from the
beginning. His father was the daimyo, meaning powerful ruler, of Mikawa and his mother Odai nokata
was the daughter of a nearby samurai lord. Ieyasu s mother and father were step siblings and had him
at a very young age. They separated shortly after his birth due to his mother being sent back to her
family. After a few years both Lady Odai, and Hirotada remarried and had children giving Tokugawa
eleven half siblings total. Most of Ieyasu s childhood and young adult years were spent in and around
danger due to wars that resulted over his family splitting to pursue different clans. He was constantly
drawn into battle during these disputes. At five years old he was taken hostage by the leader of the
Oda clan who opposed his father. He was then used as a bargaining chip for the clan so they could
squeeze as much out of Ieyasu s father as they could. Their main request was that he sever all ties with

When one has wronged another, vengeance or virtue can lead one down two different paths. In the
play, The Tempest by Shakespeare, it is noted Prospero has had his own plan since the beginning of
the play. Prospero spends his days on a secluded island ruminating about how to get his dukedom
back. Throughout the twelve years after he was dethroned, he plans to slowly lure his enemies into
seeing that he is a merciful, virtuous ruler and make his way back to dukedom. In the beginning of the
play, Prospero torments his slaves, leaving them to loathe Prospero for the cruel acts he subjects them
to. With a hunger for dominance over the island, Prospero keeps his two slaves, Caliban and Ariel,
captured under his foot demanding that they follow his bidding. After taking over Caliban s island, left
for him by his mother Sycorax, Prospero enslaves Caliban and tortures him. ... Show more content on

Prospero s plan to forgive commences at the beginning of the play when he manifests he is a qualified
ruler by enslaving Caliban and Ariel. On through his journey, the island grows to have a hatred for
Prospero, but this lines up the peak of his plan. Not only does this arrangement maneuver his way
back to dukedom, but this plan rehabilitates Prospero, leaving him a changed man. His path to
forgiveness proves Prospero s virtuous act to become the bigger man . In the final act of the play, Ariel
states, if you now beheld them, your affections Would become tender. (5.1.19 20) giving the reader a
sense of how powerful Prospero s forgiveness impacts the people who have wronged him. If Prospero
had not planned this at the dawn of the play, he would have chosen vengeance over virtue, before
thinking his procedure through, considering that he must have been so bitter after his dethroning. The
Tempest demonstrates an important concept of choosing what is right from wrong, like Prospero
chooses the act of reconciliation over the act of

Feral Hogs and the Health Risks to Hunters
One of the most destructive and invasive species in the United States today is feral hogs. Experts
believe that there are over six million feral hogs spread across 41 different states as of 2012. Feral
hogs pose problems on several different fronts. Not only do they cause widespread damage to
farmland and ecosystems, they outcompete native wildlife for food and have been known to prey on
young livestock. Feral hogs also present health concerns, as they can be a vector for diseases in
commercial swine operations, native species, and humans.

It is spread from hog to hog via birthing fluids and semen. When a feral hog is infected with
brucellosis, it is carrier for brucellosis for the remainder of its life. The highest risk of zoonotic

tissue of an infected hog comes in to contact with the hunter s eyes, mouth, or on to a cut or open part

Pigs have really been divided into two major groups: Meat and Lard. The meat type pigs are also
known as bacon types, they were developed to have more lean meat with moderate marbling of fat. On
the other hand lard type pigs were developed to hard large deposits of fat so that the animals could be
butchered into large chunks a bit easier. Modern swine production has focused prominently on
developing pigs that grow fast and produce a very lean, light colored meat. Older heritage breeds are
raised for niche markets because they have more fat and grow much slower, however they are more

16. A Summary Of Artificial Intelligence
Summary Artificial intelligence and robotics are growing to become increasingly influential in our
society. With new technology always comes new concerns however, with this particular technology,
there are much greater concerns than any event in history. Artificial intelligence has presented dangers
such as a loss of employment across all job spectrums, an exponentially increased wage gap in which
there are a select few who hold the majority of the wealth and the rest are impoverished, and the mere
fact that the magnitude of knowledge that would be acquired in incomprehensible to humans. The
main reason AI is so threatening is its ability to teach itself to improve, this is known as machine
learning. Through all the contrasting arguments on the implications of these new technologies, one
common fact can be agreed on by supporters and resisters alike: artificial intelligence in inevitable, it
is coming, no one truly knows when and how but the fact remains that, eventually, artificial
intelligence will be integrated with society as we know it. Loss of Employment The main argument
that is commonly made concerning the repercussions of Artificial Intelligence is that it will
aggressively limit the amount of jobs available to humans. This is no new story. Machines have been
slowly replacing human labor in assembly lines around the world due to the increased efficiency and
lower cost of mechanical labor. The weight of this threat is largely due to the fact that, for the first

What would young people think about this advertisement? To most of the teenagers there are plenty of
things that they are restricted to know about when they are very young. Many young people are very
eager or curious to explore new stuff like sex or even smoking and drinking. Tobacco and alcohol
companies are now even focusing 18 to 25 year old markets by promoting events at bars and
sponsoring rock and blues concerts. Every year alcohol companies spend $5.7billions on commercials
concentrated in sports programs to make their products part of the fun in the matches. Such
advertisement strategies by fast food, tobacco and alcohol companies may seem not a big deal to us,
however it would be not wise for us to ignore the potential impacts by such products as they are
already influencing our life little by little. Too much fast food not only has brought harm to young
people s health but also distorted their universal values by misleading them that everything are granted
when their parents promise to buy them fast food after they constantly nag or beg their parents. For

potential harm to teenagers. More and more teenagers may become pro longed smokers and drinkers

Emily Dickinson, born in 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts, is regarded as one of America s best poets.
After a poor experience at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, where she was regarded as a no hope,
her writing career took off in full swing. Although her family was more conservative, regular
churchgoers, and socially prominent town figures, Dickinson preferred a socially reserved lifestyle
that renounced the traditional values of her day (Baym, 1189 93). The iconoclastic spirit pervasive in
Emily Dickinson s poetry reflects her conflict with the traditions of New England society.

She, growing up in a religious family, determined that religion was not the pathway for her and she
would instead be the only influence on her life (Emily, no pag.). To the rest of New England, God was
loving, caring, and a Father; however, her poetry reveals that to her, He was a mystical figure in the
sky who oscillated back and forth from loving to harsh. Dickinson s poetry often mocks the Bible,
God, prayer, and church attendance. Her poetry s is commonly irreverent, calling the Bible an antique
Volume Written by faded Men At the suggestion of Holy Spectres (F1577). Dickinson repeatedly
mocks God calling Him Burglar! Banker! and sarcastically Father! (F39). In a short, three lined poem,
Dickinson jeers at the traditional, Christian phrase In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Ghost Amen. Dickinson instead worships nature In the name of the Bee And of the Butterfly
And of the Breeze Amen! (F23). Although subtle, it reveals that she knows enough about religious
ways to parody it in a satirical fashion. Dickinson again belittles the effectiveness and importance of
prayer. Of Course I prayed And did God Care? He cared as much as on the Air A Bird had stamped her

If My Mind Could Forget the Things My Eyes Have Seen Abuse by police officers and officers in
penal institutions is a big subject in the media now. Turn to a news station and the chances of seeing at
least on case are pretty high. The most unreported incidents, however, is actually assault on police
officers and corrections officers. The media does not report these issues nearly as much as it tries to
portray officer assault on criminals. Why is it that the media covers up the big issue of officer assault
and reports the innocent criminals being assaulted? When the media is trying to scare someone they
don t say criminals are bad, instead, make it seem like the selfless officers risking their lives are the
bad guys and use it as a scare tactic to create distrust and panic in the public. Abuse falls under six
definitions when applied to law enforcement. Physical abuse: The blatant beating, striking, or physical
mistreatment of an inmate. This is a very vague area because any physical contact with an inmate can
be reported as abuse. Psychological abuse: The mental degradation of an inmate through
embarrassment, unnecessary command or criticism. Unlawful interrogation, which is literally unheard
of anymore, means the use of starvation, sleep deprivation, dehydration, etc. Excessive force: When
compliance must be obtained physically and the amount of force used far exceeds the need. Torture:
the use of stress positions water boarding and hot boxing, also

21. The And Managing Student Behavior Essay
PBIS and Managing Student Behavior
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a multi tier strategy based on student
outcome as opposed to a set curriculum. In a classroom it is based on 6 essential practices, but the
strategies can, and should be implemented school wide for maximum benefit. The following will offer
some history on PBIS, a breakdown of the 6 essential classroom practices, and a brief description of
what a three tier strategy would encompass.
History
Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies (PBIS) was developed in the 1980 s in response to a
need for a more effective management of students with Behavior Disorders (BD) behaviors (Sugai
Simonsen, 2012). Research done at the University of Oregon found that emphasis should be placed on
behavior prevention, and social skill instruction in a school wide system (Sugai Simonsen, 2012). In
1997 with the revision of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) a grant was included to
establish a National Center on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. The national center was
established with the goal of providing technical assistance to schools for the support of students with
BD (Sugai Simonsen, 2012).
PBIS has its roots in intervention for students with BD, but a shift has taken place to PBIS being a
school wide behavioral support. PBIS is now defined as evidence based interventions to achieve
academically and behaviorally important outcomes for all students (Sugai Simonsen, 2012).

22. How Has The English Language Changed Over The Years
Think of things that morph over time. What comes to mind? People may think about a music artist s
change from YouTube videos recorded on iPhones to sold out concerts. Or, they may think about the
changes an athlete makes from childhood to becoming a professional athlete. However, did you think
about how much a language changes over a couple of years? Every year words are added to and taken
from the dictionary. Words are formed and forgotten. Language changes because of a person s
vocabulary and location, but what happens to a language, like the English language, that is spread
across the whole world?
The English language belongs to the West Germanic branch of the Indo European family of languages,
according to M Boyanova. The Indo European family started in Europe and South Asia, later
spreading to other parts of the world. The West Germanic branch of the Indo European language
family includes the Afrikaans (spoken in South Africa), Dutch (spoken in Holland), English (spoken in
the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and Canada), German (spoken in Germany), and
Yiddish (spoken in Germany and Israel) languages (Thompson). Even though Scottish belongs to the
Celtic branch (Thompson), it is one of the English language s closest living relative, along with
Frisian. Frisian is located in the Dutch province of Friesland, in nearby areas of Germany, and on a
few islands in the North Sea. It is only spoken by approximately half a million people (Boyanova).

23. How Washington s Role And Legacy Has Been Manipulated By...
Kush Patel
Word Count: Edward G. Lengel, author of Inventing George Washington, brings a different approach
to writing historical books. He has collected and sifted through virtually all mediums of Washington s
life. Through his work I found a central theme of how Washington s role and legacy has been
manipulated by society. Lengel displays the way writers, critics, and religious leaders changed George
Washington s identity for their own personal benefits; they have altered his religious orientation and
his public image in both good and bad ways.
George Washington s religious beliefs have always been altered or unclear to the American society.
Lengel ponders, Washington considered attendance at religious services to be a civic duty. He believed
that morality and the unfettered practice of religion ensured the prosperity of a well organized society
(77). Washington was only partially religious to please the common people. He was selfless in doing
what was in the best interest of his nation than himself. By taking the role of president, he had to
sacrifice his own beliefs. The Valley Forge prayer incident was commonly disfigured by many. The
story began when a Quaker, by the name of Isaac Potts, saw Washington in prayer, according to
Mason Locke Weems. After the initial story, others began twisting it to their liking by adding horses or
barns. As Lengel states, The image of Washington in prayer became iconic (86). Artist painted

The townsmen only saw the narrator as an obedient black boy and used him to prove they were good

them. She tortured and threatened until she got what she wanted, then she turned them over to the
government. Her poor gorillas had to be safe. Especially Digit, he had to be safe. I think that her
hostile and unusual behavior was an effect of her drinking. Also I think that living on that mountain

that happen. She saw Digit was growing up. She had new him since he was so little but now she had to
accept the fact he was grown up and now has to take his role in the family. He had to watch and

28. Successful Aging Through Participatory Arts Programming...

Successful Aging through Participatory Arts Programming for Older Adults
The United States is in the midst of a major demographic shift. People are living longer which means
that the population of older adults, those sixty years and over, is growing. It is projected that by the
year 2040, older adults will far outnumber school age children. Older adults are currently healthier and
lead more productive lives than ever before, due in part to modern medicine and the new idea of
seeing older people for their potential rather than their problems. This has prompted the concept of
creative aging or successful aging. This positive view of aging is not new, only the terminology.
Cicero, the Roman philosopher, is perhaps the first to introduce the idea of good aging in his essay, On
Old Age which was penned in the year 44 BC. He wrote this essay in his early 60 s to show that old
age is not a phase of decline and loss, and if approached properly becomes a time for positive change
and productive functioning (Baltes Baltes, 1990). Over the last few decades the subject of successful
aging has been the topic of a number of scholarly articles and books and has recently been tied to
participatory arts and humanities programming through agencies that provide services to the older
adult demographic. As public libraries struggle to remain relevant in today s society and respond to the
changing needs of older adult patrons it is important to become more

Command Structure Operation Anaconda
Introduction
The command structure in United States Military is vital to the success of missions carried out in or
outside the country. The Department of Defense is responsible for overseeing the establishment of
command hierarchies that work for specific units. The commands, guidelines, and orders are passed
from the highest ranking personnel to lowest ranking officers who must perform the directive or pass
it to subordinates with the same instructions. The principles that establish the command structure in
the military evaluates the performance of each command and the officers involved in the various

Blood donation in India started in 1942 during the 2nd world war. It was aimed to help wounded
soldiers. In 1954, a social reformer initiated voluntary blood donation camps. The next milestone was
the declaration of October 1 as the Blood Donation Day in 1975. But this was followed by a major
setback in 1980 with the emergence of AIDS. This created a fearful environment amongst the general
population towards donating blood and receiving transfusion due to the risk of getting infected. Even
after almost 4 decades of development of various techniques for obtaining blood via closed collection
system in a sterile environment and screening for various transfusion transmitted infections (TTI), the
fear of contracting some sort of infection is persistent. This misconception has been one of the major
roadblocks to building a strong base for VBD.
According to the WHO, nearly 38% of voluntary blood donations are by people under the age of
25(8). India is home to the largest number of young population, yet only one percent of eligible donors

The rand is a parallel currency that was exclusively used for nonresident capital movements during the
1980s and 1990s. The financial rand was available to foreigners for investment only in South Africa
was formulated by the sale of nonresidents assets in the country (Country Data, 1996). The two tiered
currency system insulated the country s foreign reserves from politically stimulated capital flight,
because all divestment by nonresidents were automatically met by new investment, and the price of
the financial rand varied independently of the commercial rand (Country Data, 1996). Ultimately,
South Africa s economic growth depends upon increasing gold profits and foreign investments.
The Cuban Pesos (CUP) is the official currency in Cuba. The American dollar is not accepted on

Single sign on (SSO) is a property of access control of multiple related, yet independent, software
systems. It is a strategy that allows users to sign on to a computer or network once and have their
identification and authorization credentials allow them into all computers and systems where they are
authorized. Hence, users do not need to enter multiple user IDs or passwords which invariably reduces
human error, which is a major part of system failures
Advantages of Single sign on
Increased efficiency and productivity It brings about efficient logon process as users only have to log
on once.
It provides failed logon attempt thresholds and lockouts which protects against an intruder using brute
force to obtain an authentic user ID and password combination.
It can provide for stronger passwords. With only one password to remember, users are generally
willing to use stronger passwords.
When businesses have various partners, implementing authentication and authorization can become
somewhat complicated. With Single sign on, businesses can centralize authentication management and
grant users instant access to all shared applications.
Disadvantages of Single sign on
A major disadvantage is that it constitutes a single point of failure. A compromised password lets an
intruder into all areas open to the password owner.
Static passwords provide very limited security. Two factor authentication or at least a one time
password is required for access by the user using SSO
Adding SSO to unique computers or legacy systems in the network might be difficult.
2. Why is Media Disposal important? What are the bad outcomes that can be done if not performed
Media Disposal is the destruction of data on electronic equipment being disposed, transferred or
reused. This includes all forms of electronic media such as hard drives, solid state and flash drives,
tapes and devices with built in storage. Media that is to be discarded must be sanitized in a manner
that makes access to previously stored data impossible. Degaussing and repeated overwriting are
common and effective methods of disposing media that are to
