Information And Communication Technologies ( Ict )
There is hardly a person, today who is not touched by computers and computing. But, if you
think about it, you would probably say just the opposite only a generation ago! The rise of the
computer is one of the big achievements of the age, and no matter what one s feelings are on
technology nobody can deny that it touches our lives in many ways every day. Just how do
computers serve as information and communication technologies (ICT s)? The advances in the
levels of interactivity of ICT s have been the topics of much debate, with scholars and the public
as sharply divided on the risks and benefits offered by ICT s as they are about the emerging
technologies make them possible. But, just as in the case of technology in general, ICT s are
very popular, getting only more popular and appear to be here to stay. This paper will take a
brief look at two market leading ICT s, Facebook and Twitter, to see what types of information
are generated by these ICT s. The commercial and business uses of these ICT s will be discussed
as well as some matters concerning privacy in the areas of surveillance, information control and
security. Emergence of Social Networking and Media Social networking is accomplished through
social media programs to make connections with friends, family, classmates, customers and clients
for social purposes or business purposes. Social media does this by letting members connect with

subjected to federal tax income if you make your home or business in one of the fifty states, based
on your income level is the amount of federal taxyou owe. State income taxcan be administered by

also depends on where you live, work, shop and invest.
The IRS is the revenue of the United States government. The IRS is responsible for collecting
taxes as well as enforcing the tax laws. The IRS was founded on July 1st, 1862. An example of
the power that the IRS has is cancelling your passport if you have a debt over $50,000 as well as
seizing the bank accounts of small businesses without any warning to them.
The majority of the federal tax money of the United States is spent into three groups. The three
groups are mandatory spending, discretionary spending and Interest on debt. Mandatory spending

Propaganda And Doublespeak And The World Of Doublespeak
The language of propaganda and doublespeak have an extended history, going back to the earliest
civilizations. Propaganda and doublespeak are the use of verbal exchange to have an impact on the
emotions, attitudes, and opinions of human beings. To try to get them to approve on a particular
political, religious, or economic point of view, or even to start a war. It is suspicious manipulation
of the opinions of the societies to a large extent by their government. In the effort to manage the
nation s thought process, the government has used the language of mass propagandaand
doublespeak for selling war.
In the essay, Propaganda: How Not to be Bamboozled, and The World of Doublespeak, both
writers discuss and explains the unusual types of propaganda and the misleading types of
doublespeak. First, Donna Woolfolk Cross labels the structures and the detailed methods
propaganda presented in our day by day life, and how to avoid being tricked. Also Cross thinks
that it is important for people in a democratic society to be well knowledgeable about propaganda
due to how people get manipulated into simply doing something except thinking. Additionally,
Cross explains for us as readers the different sorts of propaganda and how we view the topics in a
positive way. She highlights in her essay that propaganda is not continually negative; however, it
also used in significant ways. Cross presents in her essay that there are thirteen different types of

Summary Of The New Science Of Mind By Kandel
The brain is a very complex organ that conducts several mental processes. Kandel s article The
New Science of Mind describes how scientist are now able to describe the way brain processes are
linked to mental disorders. I recall learning about the different functions of the parts of the brain in
anatomy class. The hypothalamus regulates important body s systems, the amygdala has to do with
our emotions, the hippocampus helps us remember things, and the prefrontal cortex which enables
personality expression and moderates social behavior, as Kandel portrays in his research. As a
psychologymajor I am interested in the way the brain plays a role in mental disorders. He states
that a dysfunction in brain processes is what causes mental illnesses.

Robber Barons Summary
In Taking Sides Howard Zinn and Andrew S. Gordon argue yes or no to believe if the 19th century
entrepreneurs Robber Baron ? The late nineteenth century is best known for its exceptional growth
in extensive business. Across the nation, little organizations were being supplanted by titan
partnerships and mechanical combinations, prompting another, uncommon level of riches for the
business visionaries who created them. With the increment in enormous business came another
level of riches that had never been seen. They likewise mercilessly separated unions and strikes and,
to guarantee that their power would not be taken from them, they paid off city, state, and national
government officials to stay great to huge organizations. The late nineteenth century prompted more
political corruption and oppression that the United States had ever found in the work environment,
which is the reason these specialists were truth be told robber barons, not the chiefs of industry they
wished to depict themselves as. Howard Zinn argues that 19th centuryentrepreneurs were robber
barons because new industrialist for example Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P.

just give them away if he was planning on using them latter. Valentine said the tools were also
valued at over a thousand dollars in 1903 which is when the story takes place. Now that is worth
over 20 thousand dollars. This means Valentine could have easily just sold the tools for a
prophet then bought new improved ones, but that is not what mattered to him. Valentine
wanted to start a new life just and to get rid of the tools. Also if he would have put them up for
sale someone could have easily found out who he was. Lastly Valentine giving the tools away
symbolised the change of how he was going to continue living his life. The tools symbolise
Valentines old life of lying and stealing. When he finally choose to give the tools away it showed
his change, and that he was fully committed to a moral life. So Valentine wanted to live a moral

Racism Is Funny, By Co Creator Of South Park, And The...
Religion is Funny. This line, once said by co creator of South Park Matt Stone, has caused so
much controversy over the years about how we treat other cultures and religions that it has
emerged to become a number one topic. Even though religion has been around for many years,
people still take their beliefs very seriously. Media has even started making fun of religions by
making jokes about the systems of beliefs of a religion and the people who follow those religions
based on the negative stereotypes. Examples included in popular shows can be found on Family
Guy, South Park, and The Simpsons. South Park continuously makes fun of religions and the
followers of these certain religions. The major religions that are prime targets on the shows are
Christianity, Judaism, Islamand Scientology. Even though it is successful for the show, the
creators of the show often face criticism from the people who support these religions through
threating to kill them for portraying them on the show or by sending death letters. In this paper I ll
explain the show South Park and how it relates to the social issue related to religion.
In the summer of 1997, the network, Comedy Central, aired the popular animated series, South
Park. The creators thought the show was not going to be a success with the American people
because of their crude humor that could possibly offend women, religions, and current events in the
world, but it turned out that it became extremely popular with many people.

Analysis Of The Book Honky By Dalton Conley
Author and sociologist, Dalton Conley, is a Caucasian boy who grows up in a predominantly
African American and Latino neighborhood in the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the
1970 s and 80 s. In his book, Honky, he tells us a unique view through a young boy s eyes
uncovering the way in which individuals are perceived in social reality, and how some groups
of people are classified. He also speaks about how some groups get better opportunities and
privileges then others. This book is a very powerful autobiography, according to his book,
written by, not your typical middle class white male. (prologue, p. xiii) He goes on to say that he
is middle class, even though his parents didn t have any money and that he is a white boy, even
though he grew up in an inner city housing project where mostly everyone was Black or
Hispanic. Dalton speaks about his experience as a white boy exploring his definition of race and
class and saying that, race and class are nothing more than a set of stories we tell ourselves to get
through the world, to organize our reality. (prologue, p. xiv) He describes his childhood as a
social science experiment, Find out what being middle class really means by raising a kid from
a so called good family in a so called bad neighborhood. (prologue, p. xiii) In the first few
chapters, Dalton s thought of race was something that he was not aware of in his early years. He
writes about being the age of three and the new sister he chose to kidnap, which

How was Charlestown hard to settle ? Did you know that from 1670 to 1783, the city was
known as Charlestown ? At the end of the American Revolution in 1783, the name was
shortened to Charleston as we know today. Different tribes lived in the area before the English
arrived. The English choose to settle there for plantation. The word settle is to adapt a more
steady or secure style of life, especially in a permanent job and home. Charlestown was difficult
to settle because of the geography , resources and disease. According to a map in Doc A , it s not

the Carolina settlers as well because it ll be easier for them to grow crops and it ll be easier to

difficulty was the resources in Charlestown for the settlers. It was a struggle to settle there
because a lot of animals and some soil weren t good. The soil wasn t good in some places
because the soil was to sandy and it was burthen d with Iron stone. Although there were places
that didn t have good soil , there were natural lawns and some of them as beautiful as those made

Tigers , Wolves and other beasts of prey lurked around in Charlestown. A disease made
Charlestown hard to settle there as well. The disease is called Small Pox . Small Pox is a virus
that is contagious, disfiguring, and often deadly. It can be spread by blood products (unclean
needles or unscreened blood) , airborne respiratory droplets (coughs or sneezes) , skin to skin
contact (handshakes or hugs) and saliva (kissing or shared drinks). This disease was spreading

The Effectiveness of Home Schooling
I.Introduction
According to the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), the number of
homeschoolers rose up to 300,000 in 1992 to an estimated 2 million in 2003. Homeschooling has
been around since 1960s, created by John Holt, a humanist. He believes that homeschooling is one
of the greatest educational movements of our time. Supporters love the idea of students being
homeschooled rather than being exposed to public schools because they believe that
homeschooling students will boost their test scores and help lessen their insecurities. However,
others believe homeschooling students lack the ability to socialize and interact with the community.

Even, significant figures such as Senator Rick Santorum and Rep. Marilyn Musgrave encouraged
the religious home schooling movement. They all helped overturn the law that banned
homeschooling, which is now legal in all 50 states.
III. Religious Purposes There are many motivating factors as to why people support
homeschooling. One reason for homeschooling students is to ensure their child s values are the
same as theirs. Homeschoolers are taught to think in a certain way and to believe certain things.
Many parents have chosen home schooling in an effort to encourage specific religious values,
and in some cases to avoid exposing their children to perceived cultural and irreligious precepts
and ideologies (Stevenson 3). Parents want to protect their children from subjection to ideas of
religious values. They want to raise their children in a safe, controlled environment. The vast
majority of individual homeschooling for religious reasons are doing so to teach their children
Christian values and principles. Although the home schooling population is far from homogenous,
it is fair to say that many parents who pull their children out of traditional schools do so because
they wish to protect them from exposure to ideas and influences that they feel are incompatible
with their own morals or religious values (Lee and McMahon 3). They want to remove secular
influences from their children s lives because they are concerned that other

Dorian Gray Closet
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray has several major preoccupations which are integral in
understanding the depths in which it goes in formulating its central message. The novel presents
itself almost as an essay, with a preface concluding with the statement All art is quite useless
(Wilde 4). From this preface, to its conclusion, it deals with the role of art as catharsis for the
artist; however, not only as a release of emotion, but also as a closet for the artist s innermost
desires. The novel literally expresses this through its first lines, The artist is the creator of
beautiful things / to reveal art and conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 3). Thus, art acts as a
vehicle to conceal that which the person truly yearns and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative of the novel displays the fallibility of art as a closet by means of this portrait.
When the artist imbues their sins and virtues into the very foundation of their work, they
become visible for all audiences. Dorian may not paint the portrait, but he shares a similar
relationship with it; it is him it reflects. The portrait mirrors Dorian and paints his longings on a
canvas for all to see: the face on the canvas bear the burden of his passions and his sins; that the
painted image might be seared with the lines of suffering and thought, and that he might keep
all the delicate bloom [...] Eternal youth, infinite passion, passions subtle and secret, wild joys
and wilder sins he was to have all these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame
(Wilde 77, 88). The portrait embodies Dorian, everything he does, everything he wants, and
everything he feels, the portrait projects. This further perpetuates the closet analogy; however, it
also circumvents the metaphor itself, art does not conceal, it reveals. When Basil Hallward
perceives the fruit of his labor after Dorian infuses it with himself, his response shows the
portrait s failure to conceal: There was something in its expression that filled him with disgust
and loathing [...] it was from within, apparently, that the foulness and horror had come. Through
some strange quickening of inner life the leprosies of sin were slowly eating the thing away
(Wilde 130 2). Art in this scenario fails as a closet and lays bare the sins of Dorian Gray, it is
unable to hide that which he desires. Wilde states that Those who go beneath the surface do so at
their peril. / Those who read the symbol do so at their peril (Wilde 3) but here, there is no beneath.
The hidden intentions the work professes are visible from a brief

The fourth truth is to be brought into being, the truth of the eightfold ariya path leading to the
cessation of suffering. (Robinson)
The first two steps in the Eightfold Path, which leads to the cessation of suffering, are right
understanding and right resolution; a person must first discover and experience the correctness of
the Four Noble Truths, and then resolve to follow the correct path. The next three steps form a kind
of unit: right speech, right behavior, and right livelihood. These reflect the external aspects of a
person s life, which must not be neglected. The interior disciplines constitute the final three steps:
right efforts, right mindfulness, and right contemplation. By this means, the follower of Buddha
can arrive at Nirvana. (Robinson)
Buddhists do not believe in transcendent or any other type of god or gods, the need for a
personal savior, the power of prayer, eternal life in heaven or hell after death as many of the
western religions do. They do believe in reincarnation: the concept that one must go through many
cycles of birth, living and death. After many of these cycles, if a person releases their attachment

with the question of human beings very existence and pursue the surest way toward establishing a

Leadership Qualities Of A Strong Storm
Dark and ominous clouds linger afar, signaling the approach of a strong storm. We need to hurry.
Andrew, scout out a spot to assemble the tent.
Derek, grab the green tent bag out of the trailer. Brian, go with and help. Hurry! We need to finish
before the first drop if we don t want to get wet!
The rest of us will haul up the cooking gear and cook supper over a fire.
Understanding the situation, the Troop sets into action without any defiance. Every summer, my
troop and I camp in the middle of the woods at Many Point Scout Camp. During the weeklong trip,
I have been placed in positions that have given me the opportunities to display my knowledge of
leadership qualities, such as giving guidance to others to insure completion of a task, motivation,
making others feel important, and time management. Climbing the treacherous steps to the
campsite, Jacob and I lug the bulky patrol boxes loaded with kitchen supplies to the designated
kitchen area. Immediately, I analyze the situation. The clouds are darkening and rolling in fast. At
the very most, we only have a couple hours until it hits. Time is of the essence.
How is the tent coming along? I asked Andrew, Derek, and Brian. A few poles are troubling us, so
we are going to need some extra man power. Knowing the detailed instructions will be difficult for
the tent crew to understand, I carefully instruct the guys in the cooking area what to do until I
return. I walk with a mission up to the tent site and bring

The China floods of 1931 is known as possibly the worst natural disaster of all time. The 1931
Chinese floods were a series of horrible floods that decimated China and lasted around three
months. The death toll ranges from one hundred and forty five thousand to four million people
and floods were estimated to have affected over twenty eight million people. Large amounts of
people drowned during the flood but some died from waterborne diseases. The cause for the
floods were many independent variables which combined to create a dramatic flood that came to
China overnight. This natural disaster could have actually been averted if proper flood control
measures had been put in place and followed. Three major rivers were affected by the 1931 China

For my service event, I attended a beach cleanup event in Indianola, which is in Kitsap County.
When I arrived, I met with twenty other participants and received instructions from a local
community member. We were given gloves, large orange plastic bags, smaller plastic bags, and
flags. The larger bags were for the garbage we collected, the smaller bags were for recyclable
items (such as aluminum cans and glass bottles), and the flags were for needles and similar items
that we could not collected safely. We divided into two group and headed in opposite directions

the main issues I researched was the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and how plastics in the ocean
affect marine life. Because of that, I understand the true impact that any debris, and particularly
plastics, have in the ocean. They entangle animals, hinder their digestion, and transport of
invasive species, to name just some examples. For these reasons, I believe that preventing debris
from entering the ocean is paramount. I realize that participating in one beach cleanup is not

Who are you? Who are you in the eyes of a total stranger and who would they see when they look

want to be? Do you know who you are, and if you do, when did you take the path of self

their life, whether it is very early in life or rather late in life. In the novels, Billy Lynn s Long

Each of the protagonists have started or completed their path towards their journey to self
discovery, however no path is identical and the results of having started or having completed the
journey vary in significance and effectiveness in regards to the impact that they have one their
lives. The life you live is what shapes who you are and is what leads you on your path towards
self discovery. This may seem obvious, that self discovery is a journey that happens during one
s lifetime, but some people are not as fortunate to live such a fulfilled life that they are able to
partake in such a journey. There are people that would argue that to simply have a life does not
mean that one is actually living. With that being said, it is privilege to not only live a life, but to
also discover one s own identity because some people who live do not get that far either. In these
three novels the three protagonists, Billy Lynn, Jay Gatsby, and Invisible Man, have all lived lives
that have led them on their path to self discovery. Billy s own journey was one mainly focused on
battling with his own inner self. Inner peace you need to know who you are, what you want out of

Devaluation of the Feminine
Devaluation of the Feminine
The devaluation of women is built into the culture all through industry and popular culture. When
a baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family
and society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church
and being taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a
Christian. There are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to
certain behaviors they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American
culture, continues make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable .

Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display
for public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a
South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle
of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested
in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax.
They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive
sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a
profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I
have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often
depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human.
In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are
not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they
are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses
with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not
have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that

Advantages Of Robots In Medicine
Robotics in medicine Faculty of General Medicine Group4 Introduction Robots these days are
developing in all of the fields, and in less than 15 years this development became faster. In
medicine robots are manly used in surgeries for its many advantages, but it differs from the other
fields that until now robots did not take the doctors place, so robotics in medicine are used to
just help in the surgeries. In this assay i am going to write about robots in medicine, to see if
they are helpful in medicine or not by comparing their advantages to their disadvantages, and by
looking at the fields that they are already using robots, and finally I will list some examples and
focus on two to know more about how it works. Medical application the most importing and
spread application is in robotic surgeries, it is a method so doctors can do small and precise
surgeries that are hard to be done by them, or even impossible. Using small tools attached and
managed by computer that is controlled by the doctor, the main surgeries are in brain, spinal cord,

obvious benefit is for the surgical application, small scars by decreasing the incision to decrease
the blood loss and no transfusion needed specially for patients that have blood issues, small
incisions also needed in surgeries in areas like brain and spinal cords. The second advantage is the
robots precision that is needed for the sensitive operations. Length of hospital stay will be less also
because of the fast recovery and because of using the diagnosis applications that checks the patient
status continuously in his/her home. What also could be a benefit is to decrease the operation

The Tragedy Of King Lear Essay
In William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of King Lear, human suffering is exploited through
exploring social destruction caused by love, lust, and loss. King Lear s kingdom is broken down
through the excess of love and hate. Behaviors resulting from such emotions becomes tragic flaws
for the characters within the play, as the need for approval disrupts all natural social order, which is
then represented by the natural world. The natural world and natureof society become intertwined as
the plot unfolds, and, is wholly represented within the storm scenes in Act III. The society in King
Learis based on the theory of The Great Chain of Being; the idea that society runs under the
following order of God, the King, Noblemen, Commoners, and lastly Animals. In The Tragedy of
King Lear, the natural world is an extension of man himself as it is depicted as a reflection of
emotional turbulence of the protagonists mind and the turmoil caused by the destruction of natural
social order. The upheaval caused by destruction of The Great Chain of Being, socially and
naturally reveals the detrimental effects of destructing social order, leading to a tragic hero s
ultimate demise; for the natural world allows for catharsis, revealing the truth about the evils of the
world.
Emotional turbulence results in social order destruction within The Tragedy of King Lear. When it
comes to power, love is put aside for the hunger of authority and leadership. Love provides power

between two other men that are running and ends up catching up to a few other women who are

though the men are outnumbered. Two women run pass a guy and pull out his headphones to
slow down his pace. Now the men are all checking online and see that the women are catching up

A Room of One s Own Essay
FOUR
In Chapters Four and Five of A Room of One s Own,, the focus on Women Fiction shifts to a
consideration of women writers, both actual writers and ultimately one of the author s own creation.
The special interest here is one raised earlier in the work: the effect of tradition on women s writing.
Woolf believes that women are different from men both in their social history as well as inherently,
and that each of these differences has had important effects on the development of women s writing.
Women writers, this is to say, have been treated differently from men because they were women;
and this has affected how they developed.
Furthermore, Woolf maintains, women writers are different from men writers because they are

on equal terms with men.
For women, the narrator contends, here begins the freedom of the mind, the possibility that in the
course of time one will be able to write whatever one likes. With Mrs. Behn, writing by women
cased to be a sign of folly and became an activity of practical importance. Money dignifies what is
frivolous if unpaid for she observes, and Mrs. Behn s success in the Seventeenth Century led to very
many women earning money through writing in the Eighteenth Century.
These women became the necessary forerunners of the successful women writers of the early 19th
Century: Jane Austen, the Brontes, and George Eliot.
With the 19th Century writers, one can begin to consider women s writing in a more expanded
manner as a kind of writing that has its own nature based on what it is to be a woman.
First, the narrator wonders why the early 19th century writers were all novelists despite their
apparent differences in temperament. And one answer that she gives focuses on women s common
social role.
Functioning at the heart of the family, she observes, women s training inevitably includes the
observation of character and the analysis of emotion. These are faculties women acquire
unconsciously in the course of daily activities and they are more easily put to use in a novel than
elsewhere in fiction.
Domesticity, thus, was not always a disadvantage for women.
However, she goes on to consider, to the extent that women s

The Effect Of Different Amounts Of Vinegar
Introduction + Research Question
The goal of this lab was to determine the effects of different amounts of Vinegar on the
temperature in the reaction NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 в†’ NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2.
My lab partner and I researched and experimented with the temperature after this reaction because
we were intrigued by the solution seeming colder in the demonstration during class. We wondered
why and how a reaction can yield decreasing temperatures. We also wondered how vinegar would
affect the temperature change caused by the reaction. This lead to our experiment to investigate the
relationship between the amount of vinegar in the reaction and the temperature of the solution 40s
after the reaction commences.
The Hypothesis
If the amount of vinegar is increased then the temperature of the solution will drop until it stabilizes
at a certain point. The dependent variable in this experiment (the temperature) will stay the exact
same without any vinegar being added because of the lack of reaction. If more vinegar is added I
believe the temperature will continue to get colder until a certain point where the temperature will
stabilize.
Theory/ Background Information/Abstract.
I believe my hypothesis will be true because from my research I have found that the reaction
between baking soda and vinegar is an endothermic reaction. Endothermic reactions are reactions
that require heat to be initiated. This need for heat in turn causes a drop in temperature once the
reaction occurs because the

4.0Fundings As the programs and projects of NGOs expand, the need for money to run their
operations becomes all the more critical. NGOs have remained highly dependent on donor and
external organizations such as UNDP, WHO, etc in addition to some fundraising efforts from
the private sector and general public. Funding for the majority of NGOs remains limited, as
only a few have access to government grants. Financial weakness The majority of NGOs are not
membership based, hence the opportunity to sustain core funding from membership
contributions is lost to many. Other sources for sustainable financing are not yet fully explored,
for example, long term partnership with private sector (beyond fundraising), engagement in
economic activities and social mobilization at community level. Competition for limited funding
creates a negative environment for networking among NGOs, which in turn leads to duplication
and loss of opportunities to pool knowledge, experiences and resources to a common cause 5.0

Anti Semitism As A Conflict Of Religious Identity And...
For many centuries the Jewish people were scowled upon in their society and have been physically
and mentally tormented. Anti Semitism was been around for many generations, and it ranges from
a conflict of religious identity and national identity. The holocaust took place 70 years ago and
people claim that it was the stem of Anti Semitism, but Anti Semitism goes as far back as the fourth
century, and ultimately helped pave the path for the Holocaust. Medieval Anti Semitism took place
during the time where the Jewslived under the dominant religion of Christianity under the Roman
Empire in Europe. The Jews during this period suffered from the crusade, blood libels, and hatred
from the Christians. This then transitioned into National Anti Semitism, which took place during
the Enlightenment. Many people during this time were almost Patriotic people believed highly in
loyalty to their nation, Jews being the outsiders, who did not share many of the attributes these
people had such as language or history were a targets for this National anti Semitism (modern Anti

enlightenment, Jew hatred did not end but rather changed from religious prejudice, god and law, to
peoplehood/national aspect, unity of a nation (Why The Jews? Secular Antisemitism: The

The Decision Put Forward By Robert S. Kaplan
In the following essay I will be looking at the arguments put forward by Robert S. Kaplan and
others on why management accounting techniques had lost their relevance to organisations by the
1980s. Since the 1980s new management accounting techniques have been developed, I will be
looking at two recent developments in management accounting and assessing whether they have
sufficiently addressed the concerns raised by Kaplan and if they have improved the usefulness of
management accounting in organisations. Kaplan and Johnson believe that the origin of modern
management accounting is traced to the emergence of managed, hierarchal businesses in the
early 19th century. The need for planning and control arose in textile mills where cost of product
was allocated to worker productivity, raw material use and plant layout. It was because of the
factory locations being so far away for the head offices that an information system was required to
be used as a judge of efficiency of the factory workers. The rapid growth of railroads established
performance measures in the form of cost per ton mile, cost per passenger per mile and ratio of
operating expenses to revenue (Waweru, 2010). Shortly afterwards the mass production of
steelworks introduced direct cost measures and standard costing. From this we can see that
management accounting evolved as a tool to motivate and evaluate the efficiency/effectiveness of
internal processes. Kaplan and Johnson didn t believe that management accounting

Observation Of A Piglet Experiment
On the 10th of September 2017, ten little piglets that had died at birth were brought and staged
outside of Heartland Career Center in Wabash, Indiana. Over the past three weeks we have
observed and studied the dead piglets lying in the grass, cement and suspended from a pole.
Before we started the experiment, we had to answer some questions on how which piglet will
decompose faster during the experiment. There was a lot discovered about the dead piglets and
it was very interesting. Throughout this project, we had to answer questions on what we think
will happen to the piglets and make a hypothesis on what will happen through the three weeks
that we did it. Most of the questions that I had were correct with my hypothesis. One of the
questions that we had to answer was, does a piglet suspended in the air decompose at a different
rate than the one left on the ground or the cement? This was a difficult question but not too hard
because the piglets that were suspended took a long time to decompose to just bones. Differed
from the piglets in the air it took the piglets on the ground at least a week to decompose because
of the heat that we had over a weekend time period that had no observations because we weren t
at school. Over all, the piglets that were suspended in the air on a pole and the piglets on the
ground each piglet had a different reaction to everyday. Which decomposes faster, a piglet that is in

1.1 Definition of comparability
According to Canadian GAAP, the definition of comparability is Financial information measured
and reported in a similar manner among different companies. Comparability allows analysts to

similarities are not obscured by changes in accounting methods or disclosure practices.

Another is peacetime America, where Billy prospers as an optometrist and pillar of society in
Ilium, New York. The last is the planet Tralfamadore, where Billy and his fantasy lover Montana

firebombing of Dresden, a prospering optometrist, a husband, and a father, Billy Pilgrim
believes he has quot;come unstuck in time. quot; Kurt Vonnegut is the author and narrator of the

The Lesson Plan On The Book Stone Soup Essay
The lesson plan that we chose to do our Drama Group Lesson was based on the book Stone
Soup. I suggested this book to the group as a good drama lesson, because I did my individual
lesson plan on the story Nail Soup and I thought that Stone Soup would be a great drama lesson for
this class. Another member in our group also brought up the ideaof using Stone Soupas well, which
caused us all to agree on using this book for our lesson plan. Our meeting times were postponed
due to one of our members missing school for a week for a family emergency. While this one
member was gone, I conversed with the other group member and we thoughtit was best if we waited
until the other group member returned so she would feel included and would be able to
contribute to the making of the lesson plan. Once she returned we met at the Main Library. We
met a total of two times; we were able to create a full lesson plan on a Friday, which took us a
total of about three hours to complete. We than met the following Sunday to discuss any
concerns and tweaks we would like to make to the lesson plan. We only needed to meet for a half
an hour, because we found minimal errors and thought we seemed prepared and ready to present.
We first started ready the book and found areas in the book that could be used as a drama/play
scene. We then collaborated and discussed different ways that we could use the scene. For our
story we found that there were three big scenes that could be used and we broke those

Mayu was aimed to find her mother, and the place called home . In one of her lines, she
mentioned, At the place called home, there is Mother (Kishida, 1984). From this line, we can see
that Mayu relates home to mother, they are two inseparable concepts. This setting is in line with
the real expectation from the Japanese society that women should be a good wives, wise mothers
since 1898 (Anderson, 2009). The prime minister at that period, Tojo Hideki, also said the similar
idea that the best duty for women is to stay at home and manage the family nicely so that men can
work on the front lines for the country (Havens, 1975). Japanese society depicts mothers figure is
the centre of a household and they should responsible for raising children as the future citizens.

A Core Element Of The Film Western
A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the
resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative
structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films portrayal of society s expansion to the west. In
these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict
that is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Fords My
Darling Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt
Earps, conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who
shot and killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp s status as the town marshal
symbolizes the civility and order of society, the Clantons a violent, uncivilized family in which the
father uses primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons represent
the wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling
Clementine is also connected to Ford s use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt
Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the
embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots
of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film
makes use of its visual style to

The Feminine Mystique Analysis
Both the Victorian Era and 1950s and 1960s America featured inflexible expectations of a wife
and her views on marriage. Grant Allen, a Victorian essayist, in Plain Words on the Women
Question in 1889, wrote, We ought frankly to recognize that most women must be wives and
mothers: that most women should therefore be trained, physically, morally, socially, and mentally,
in the way best fitting for them to be wives and mothers (Broadview Anthology 628). Essentially,
Allen holds the belief that all women are meant to serve as an asset to men, to complement men.
Additionally, his use of the word train connotes that women should be disciplined to fit this role,
which betrays the lack of equality between the sexes. He further argues that it goes against nature
for women to desire more than motherhood and wifehood. He chastises women who attempt to
oppose their duty, instead of boasting of their sexlessness as a matter of pride, they ought to keep
it in the dark, and to be ashamed of it (628). In other words, to be feminine is to mother children
and to marry a man. Deviating from this neatly structured plan for a womans obligation is to
become unfeminine. In America, Betty Friedan, a feminist writer, wrote The Feminine Mystiquein
1963. In her book, she rebels against the traditional view of femininity. She coined the term which
shares the title of her book as, The feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only
commitment for women is the fulfillment of

The President Is Not Bound By The Geneva Convention Summary
The Geneva Conventions are a set of rules ,for countries that have taken part in the conventions, to
conduct war by. They state how soldiers, sailors, POW s, and civilians are to be treated during
times of war between two opposing states or countries. They also show what is required to have the
Conventions apply to each person. In the article The President Is Not Bound by the Geneva
Conventionsin Dealing with Terrorists by Jay Bybee, a united states appeals court judge, he talks
about how terrorists should be treated under the rules of the Geneva Conventions. Bybee makes a
point to say that terrorist groups like al Qaeda are not a state so therefore the conventions do not
apply to them. Bybee makes a point to say that even if Geneva III... Show more content on

Bybee states that the Geneva Conventions are meant to govern what goes on in war between
two states, not between a state and a non state group. Even though Afghanistan has been a part
of the Geneva Conventions since 1956, he says that the Taliban that is running the state party is
an extremist group and is also illegitimate therefore it does not fall under Geneva III. Bybee also
informs that neither does the al Qaeda terrorist group because it is not a state so therefore it
does not fall under Geneva III, and the president does not have to follow the the same rules that
the Geneva Conventions require. Bybee argues that it is for the president s discretion as to
whether or not we can suspend the Geneva Conventions when it comes to any terrorist group. He
shows that many presidents in the past have suspended treaties and this is not any different. If the
times call for it the president can call for a treaty to be ignored. When the president is questioned
on his choice he is checked by the supreme court and then given approval. The president also has
the power to restore the obligations that are required when the state is back to its original form and
meeting its treaty standards. ( Bybee

Granite Apparel
Qualitative Analysis Long Term Debt The advantage of a long term debt financing option, in
this case, is the attractive rate of interest Metropolitan Life is willing to offer. However, their
offer comes with some conditions: An upfront free of 200,000 common shares is required. In
terms of operations, the capital budget would not be able to exceed the forecasted budget. No
acquisitions could be made without the approval of Metropolitan Life. No change could be made
to the current compensation packages of the firm s executives until 50% of the debt was repaid.
Their debt equity ratio would be constrained to 1.20. They would not be able to raise any more debt

However, if Granite were to offer an IPO, they would have to undergo a thorough process of
examining all financial records, operations by the investment bank who was willing to
underwrite the offer as well as the securities commission, responsible of examining every IPO.
The process would take around three to six months. As well, the company would have to issue an
additional six million shares to cover the $50 million investment required. The advantage of a
IPO is the ability to acquire the necessary funds easily, which is something to consider if in the
future the company would like to expand or had a project that needed indispensable funds than the
company had available right away. It seems that the option of IPO is the better fit for the company.
This type of financing would allow not giving up too much control. It would also require them to
act in the best interest of their shareholders. These shareholders would want to see the stock price
increase and make a better return on their investment. Therefore, if the company believes it can act
in such a way and make decisions that would attract future investors, the initial public offering
seems to be the best option for the company at the

Propaganda and doublespeak are the use of verbal exchange to have an impact on the emotions, attitudes, and opinions of human beings. To try to get them to approve on a particular political, religious, or economic point of view, or even to start a war. It is suspicious manipulation of the opinions of the societies to a large extent by their government. In the effort to manage the nation s thought process, the government has used the language of mass propagandaand doublespeak for selling war. In the essay, Propaganda: How Not to be Bamboozled, and The World of Doublespeak, both writers discuss and explains the unusual types of propaganda and the misleading types of doublespeak. First, Donna Woolfolk Cross labels the structures and the detailed methods propaganda presented in our day by day life, and how to avoid being tricked. Also Cross thinks that it is important for people in a democratic society to be well knowledgeable about propaganda due to how people get manipulated into simply doing something except thinking. Additionally, Cross explains for us as readers the different sorts of propaganda and how we view the topics in a positive way. She highlights in her essay that propaganda is not continually negative; however, it also used in significant ways. Cross presents in her essay that there are thirteen different types of ... The late nineteenth century is best known for its exceptional growth in extensive business. Across the nation, little organizations were being supplanted by titan partnerships and mechanical combinations, prompting another, uncommon level of riches for the business visionaries who created them. With the increment in enormous business came another level of riches that had never been seen. They likewise mercilessly separated unions and strikes and, to guarantee that their power would not be taken from them, they paid off city, state, and national government officials to stay great to huge organizations. The late nineteenth century prompted more political corruption and oppression that the United States had ever found in the work environment, which is the reason these specialists were truth be told robber barons, not the chiefs of industry they wished to depict themselves as. Howard Zinn argues that 19th centuryentrepreneurs were robber barons because new industrialist for example Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Homeschooling has been around since 1960s, created by John Holt, a humanist. He believes that homeschooling is one of the greatest educational movements of our time. Even, significant figures such as Senator Rick Santorum and Rep. Marilyn Musgrave encouraged the religious home schooling movement. They all helped overturn the law that banned homeschooling, which is now legal in all 50 states. III. Religious Purposes There are many motivating factors as to why people support homeschooling. One reason for homeschooling students is to ensure their child s values are the same as theirs. Homeschoolers are taught to think in a certain way and to believe certain things. Many parents have chosen home schooling in an effort to encourage specific religious values, and in some cases to avoid exposing their children to perceived cultural and irreligious precepts and ideologies (Stevenson 3). Parents want to protect their children from subjection to ideas of religious values. They want to raise their children in a safe, controlled environment. The vast majority of individual homeschooling for religious reasons are doing so to teach their children Christian values and principles. Although the home schooling population is far from homogenous, it is fair to say that many parents who pull their children out of traditional schools do so because they wish to protect them from exposure to ideas and influences that they feel are incompatible with their own morals or religious values (Lee and McMahon 3). • 16. Dorian Gray Closet Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray has several major preoccupations which are integral in understanding the depths in which it goes in formulating its central message. The novel presents itself almost as an essay, with a preface concluding with the statement All art is quite useless (Wilde 4). From this preface, to its conclusion, it deals with the role of art as catharsis for the artist; however, not only as a release of emotion, but also as a closet for the artist s innermost desires. The novel literally expresses this through its first lines, The artist is the creator of beautiful things / to reveal art and conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 3). Thus, art acts as a vehicle to conceal that which the person truly yearns and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrative of the novel displays the fallibility of art as a closet by means of this portrait. When the artist imbues their sins and virtues into the very foundation of their work, they become visible for all audiences. Dorian may not paint the portrait, but he shares a similar relationship with it; it is him it reflects. The portrait mirrors Dorian and paints his longings on a canvas for all to see: the face on the canvas bear the burden of his passions and his sins; that the painted image might be seared with the lines of suffering and thought, and that he might keep all the delicate bloom [...] Eternal youth, infinite passion, passions subtle and secret, wild joys and wilder sins he was to have all these things. The portrait was to bear the burden of his shame (Wilde 77, 88). The portrait embodies Dorian, everything he does, everything he wants, and everything he feels, the portrait projects. This further perpetuates the closet analogy; however, it also circumvents the metaphor itself, art does not conceal, it reveals. When Basil Hallward perceives the fruit of his labor after Dorian infuses it with himself, his response shows the portrait s failure to conceal: There was something in its expression that filled him with disgust and loathing [...] it was from within, apparently, that the foulness and horror had come. Through some strange quickening of inner life the leprosies of sin were slowly eating the thing away (Wilde 130 2). Art in this scenario fails as a closet and lays bare the sins of Dorian Gray, it is unable to hide that which he desires. Wilde states that Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. / Those who read the symbol do so at their peril (Wilde 3) but here, there is no beneath. The special interest here is one raised earlier in the work: the effect of tradition on women s writing. Woolf believes that women are different from men both in their social history as well as inherently, and that each of these differences has had important effects on the development of women s writing. Women writers, this is to say, have been treated differently from men because they were women; and this has affected how they developed. For women, the narrator contends, here begins the freedom of the mind, the possibility that in the course of time one will be able to write whatever one likes. With Mrs. Behn, writing by women cased to be a sign of folly and became an activity of practical importance. Money dignifies what is frivolous if unpaid for she observes, and Mrs. Behn s success in the Seventeenth Century led to very many women earning money through writing in the Eighteenth Century. These women became the necessary forerunners of the successful women writers of the early 19th Century: Jane Austen, the Brontes, and George Eliot. With the 19th Century writers, one can begin to consider women s writing in a more expanded manner as a kind of writing that has its own nature based on what it is to be a woman. First, the narrator wonders why the early 19th century writers were all novelists despite their apparent differences in temperament. And one answer that she gives focuses on women s common social role. Functioning at the heart of the family, she observes, women s training inevitably includes the observation of character and the analysis of emotion. These are faculties women acquire unconsciously in the course of daily activities and they are more easily put to use in a novel than elsewhere in fiction. Domesticity, thus, was not always a disadvantage for women. However, she goes on to consider, to the extent that women s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Different Amounts Of Vinegar Introduction + Research Question The goal of this lab was to determine the effects of different amounts of Vinegar on the temperature in the reaction NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 в†’ NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2. My lab partner and I researched and experimented with the temperature after this reaction because we were intrigued by the solution seeming colder in the demonstration during class. We wondered why and how a reaction can yield decreasing temperatures. We also wondered how vinegar would affect the temperature change caused by the reaction. This lead to our experiment to investigate the relationship between the amount of vinegar in the reaction and the temperature of the solution 40s after the reaction commences. The Hypothesis If the amount of vinegar is increased then the temperature of the solution will drop until it stabilizes at a certain point. The dependent variable in this experiment (the temperature) will stay the exact same without any vinegar being added because of the lack of reaction. If more vinegar is added I believe the temperature will continue to get colder until a certain point where the temperature will stabilize. Theory/ Background Information/Abstract. Anti Semitism was been around for many generations, and it ranges from a conflict of religious identity and national identity. The holocaust took place 70 years ago and people claim that it was the stem of Anti Semitism, but Anti Semitism goes as far back as the fourth century, and ultimately helped pave the path for the Holocaust. Medieval Anti Semitism took place during the time where the Jewslived under the dominant religion of Christianity under the Roman Empire in Europe. • 38. The Decision Put Forward By Robert S. Kaplan In the following essay I will be looking at the arguments put forward by Robert S. Kaplan and others on why management accounting techniques had lost their relevance to organisations by the 1980s. Since the 1980s new management accounting techniques have been developed, I will be looking at two recent developments in management accounting and assessing whether they have sufficiently addressed the concerns raised by Kaplan and if they have improved the usefulness of management accounting in organisations. Kaplan and Johnson believe that the origin of modern management accounting is traced to the emergence of managed, hierarchal businesses in the early 19th century. The need for planning and control arose in textile mills where cost of product was allocated to worker productivity, raw material use and plant layout. It was because of the factory locations being so far away for the head offices that an information system was required to be used as a judge of efficiency of the factory workers. The rapid growth of railroads established performance measures in the form of cost per ton mile, cost per passenger per mile and ratio of operating expenses to revenue (Waweru, 2010). Shortly afterwards the mass production of steelworks introduced direct cost measures and standard costing. From this we can see that management accounting evolved as a tool to motivate and evaluate the efficiency/effectiveness of internal processes. • 40. Observation Of A Piglet Experiment On the 10th of September 2017, ten little piglets that had died at birth were brought and staged outside of Heartland Career Center in Wabash, Indiana. Over the past three weeks we have observed and studied the dead piglets lying in the grass, cement and suspended from a pole. Before we started the experiment, we had to answer some questions on how which piglet will decompose faster during the experiment. There was a lot discovered about the dead piglets and it was very interesting. Throughout this project, we had to answer questions on what we think will happen to the piglets and make a hypothesis on what will happen through the three weeks that we did it. Most of the questions that I had were correct with my hypothesis. One of the questions that we had to answer was, does a piglet suspended in the air decompose at a different rate than the one left on the ground or the cement? This was a difficult question but not too hard because the piglets that were suspended took a long time to decompose to just bones. Differed from the piglets in the air it took the piglets on the ground at least a week to decompose because of the heat that we had over a weekend time period that had no observations because we weren t at school. Over all, the piglets that were suspended in the air on a pole and the piglets on the ground each piglet had a different reaction to everyday. Which decomposes faster, a piglet that is in its natural state, one that is burnt, one that is buried? This was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another member in our group also brought up the ideaof using Stone Soupas well, which caused us all to agree on using this book for our lesson plan. Our meeting times were postponed due to one of our members missing school for a week for a family emergency. • 47. A Core Element Of The Film Western A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films portrayal of society s expansion to the west. In these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict that is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Fords My Darling Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt Earps, conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who shot and killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp s status as the town marshal symbolizes the civility and order of society, the Clantons a violent, uncivilized family in which the father uses primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons represent the wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling Clementine is also connected to Ford s use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film makes use of its visual style to ... • 48. The Feminine Mystique Analysis Both the Victorian Era and 1950s and 1960s America featured inflexible expectations of a wife and her views on marriage. Grant Allen, a Victorian essayist, in Plain Words on the Women Question in 1889, wrote, We ought frankly to recognize that most women must be wives and mothers: that most women should therefore be trained, physically, morally, socially, and mentally, in the way best fitting for them to be wives and mothers (Broadview Anthology 628). Essentially, Allen holds the belief that all women are meant to serve as an asset to men, to complement men. Additionally, his use of the word train connotes that women should be disciplined to fit this role, which betrays the lack of equality between the sexes. He further argues that it goes against nature for women to desire more than motherhood and wifehood. He chastises women who attempt to oppose their duty, instead of boasting of their sexlessness as a matter of pride, they ought to keep it in the dark, and to be ashamed of it (628). In other words, to be feminine is to mother children and to marry a man. Deviating from this neatly structured plan for a womans obligation is to become unfeminine. In America, Betty Friedan, a feminist writer, wrote The Feminine Mystiquein 1963. In her book, she rebels against the traditional view of femininity. She coined the term which shares the title of her book as, The feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only commitment for women is the fulfillment of ... In the article The President Is Not Bound by the Geneva Conventionsin Dealing with Terrorists by Jay Bybee, a united states appeals court judge, he talks about how terrorists should be treated under the rules of the Geneva Conventions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bybee states that the Geneva Conventions are meant to govern what goes on in war between two states, not between a state and a non state group. Even though Afghanistan has been a part of the Geneva Conventions since 1956, he says that the Taliban that is running the state party is an extremist group and is also illegitimate therefore it does not fall under Geneva III. Bybee also informs that neither does the al Qaeda terrorist group because it is not a state so therefore it does not fall under Geneva III, and the president does not have to follow the the same rules that the Geneva Conventions require. Bybee argues that it is for the president s discretion as to whether or not we can suspend the Geneva Conventions when it comes to any terrorist group. He shows that many presidents in the past have suspended treaties and this is not any different. If the times call for it the president can call for a treaty to be ignored. When the president is questioned on his choice he is checked by the supreme court and then given approval. The president also has the power to restore the obligations that are required when the state is back to its original form and meeting its treaty standards. ( Bybee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
