Ayala Hypothesis
The Creation of the Hypothesis
Ayala discusses the contradictions between how Darwin described his findings to the scientific world
and his experimental methods. Darwin used deductive reasoning for his research but presented his
findings as if he had used inductive reasoning. In the 19th century the deductive method wasn t
accepted because it was said to be making assumptions by forming a hypothesis and instead inductive
methods were used. Darwin did not want a bad reputation and that is why
Darwin presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning and not the actual scientific
method. The inductive process helped obtain more precise and empirical information through research
but it failed to explain the methods used by scientists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ayala also talks about the four points of testing a hypothesis and the criterion of demarcation. The first
step is to examine that the hypothesis is consistence and does not contradict itself or any universal
idea. Second, the hypothesis must be examined for understanding of why the phenomena may
occurred as noted; the hypothesis must be itself explanatory. The third step is to examine the
hypothesis for consistency with other stated hypothesis or theories accepted in the science world.
Lastly, the hypothesis must be put on trial to observe if the hypothesis agrees with what is actually
observed, the results. This is the criterion of demarcation; where the hypothesis does not have to be
consistence with the empirical world of science and can also be proven wrong; then the hypothesis
becomes scientific.
In conclusion, Ayala states the contradictions between how Darwin actually performed his research
and how he presented his research to the scientific community. Darwin presented his research as
inductive reasoning but he actually performed his research using deductive reasoning because of the
reputation a hypothesis had in the 19th century. Ayala describes how a

What Were The Underlying Causes Of World War 1
The underlying causes of World War One were militarism, alliances, and nationalism. The
assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand is considered to have been the spark of World War One (
DBQ: What Were the Underlying..., Background Essay). However, it is not necessarily the main
reason for the war. Many other factors influenced the war much greater than the assassination of
Archduke Francis Ferdinand. Militarism, Alliances, and Nationalism are the underlying causes of
World War One. Militarism contributed greatly to World War One. MIlitarism influenced countries
and its people to want to go to war. The idea of militarism persuaded countries to go to war so that

Northern vs. Southern American Colonies 1700s Essay
By the 1700 s, The northern and souther colonies had evolved into two distinct societies. This is so
because the northern and southern colonies had different environments and also different reasons of
settlement. The North was established for mainly religious freedom, while on the other hand, the south
had been established for economic freedom. The climate also affected the different turnout of the
north and the south. The north was much colder and so their soil was not beneficial for farming, so the
people of the north found other jobs, while on the other side, the south had rich soil and the colonists
there used that idea to set up huge plantations and farms. The northern colonies symbolized the
industrial power where industries were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The northern colonies were very much different from the southern because they were colonized for
different reasons. The north was colonized for freedom of worship and freedom of political thought.
The colonies had hope for a separate society, where they could show their homeland, how a country
should be run. The northern colonies were based on theocracy, where the state forced the people to
live and worship in an orthodox way. The southern colonies have characteristics that are the opposites
of the New England colony s attributes. The Southern Colonies were the Province of North Carolina,
Province of South Carolina, Virginia and Province of Georgia. The Southern colonies were developed
for freedom of economic opportunity.Their economy was supported by plantations, mostly run by
slaves. The South would focus more on massive slaves work to grow tobacco and rice that they would
sell to England. The southern colonies had goals for mercantilism, and increasing the prosperity of
England. They also had a government based on a royal government, where the state was governed by
a governor and council named by the king, and an elected assembly chosen by the people. South
colonies had smaller towns, more fields. To sum it all up, the northern and southern colonies were as
different as day and night. They were colonized for different reason. Also they had a very diverse
climate. Their pattern of trade was

It prevents rule of law, distorts market and stifles economic growth. Corruption creates and
perpetuates social and economic deprivation and inequality. Corruption leads to violation of basic
constitutional and human rights. It breeds crimes, social frustration and discontent. Corruption
undermines the processes and structures that could be conducive to poverty reduction and promotion
of human security.
Corruption is nothing new, nor is it peculiar to any particular context. It takes place in greater or lesser
degree in all countries of the world, irrespective of political and economic system, big or small,
developed or developing. However, in a developing country like Bangladesh its impacts are most
unbearable. Corruption has become a key issue of public interest in Bangladesh not merely because of
the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by Transparency International which has for
the fifth successive year ranked Bangladesh at the bottom of the list, but more importantly because of
the way corruption affects the lives of the common people. Irrespective of whether Bangladesh ranks
at the bottom or higher in international comparison, there is a widespread public concern in the
country about a pervasive presence of corruption. All the major political parties recognize corruption
as a key national issue and almost

Stem Cells And Its Effects On Human Cells
Stem cells are undifferentiated cells within the body that are defined by their ability to self renew and
differentiate into specialized cells (1). Stem cells function in body tissues as a repair mechanism, with
an unlimited ability to divide and restock cells as needed by the body. Each time a stem cell divides,
the new cell formed can either remain a stem cell or differentiate into a specialized cell, such as a
brain cell. Traditionally, there are two main types of stem cells: human embryonic stem cells [HESCs]
and adult somatic stem cells. In 1981,embryonic stem cells were the first type of stem cell to be
discovered (2). Embryonic stem cells originate from four to five day old embryos formed during the
blastocyst phase of embryological development. The embryos used to derive stem cells are usually
extras that were created using in vitro fertilization and not implanted (2).
Induced pluripotent stem cells [iPS cells] are specialized adult somatic cells that have been genetically
modified to function similarly to embryonic stem cells; that is, iPS cells have the ability to
differentiate into all adult cell types (2). The discovery of iPS cells in 2006 was very exciting for the
medical community as researchers hoped to use iPS cells in many ways, including: to gain an
increased understanding of disease pathology, as aids in transplant medicine, and in pharmaceutical
and cytotoxicity studies. Subsequent research on iPS cells has revealed some areas of concern
including:

Essay On Dental Sealant
The purpose of this research was to prove that the School Based Dental Sealant program could
improve access to Preventive Dental Service. The authors investigated 8145 students in Framingham,
Massachusetts which was considered representative of the 66190 residents living in west/ southwest of
Boston. The study began after applying oral survey to all first and second grade students in
Framingham from 2000 to 2009. In this period of time, all students were screened for the number of
teeth filled, number of teeth with untreated decay, number of teeth extracted, existing sealants on the
first molar, and identification of first molars in need of sealant. And then the dental officials applied
sealant to the molars of those students who had high potential of developing carries.
Although students were identified and informed of the dental care they needed, just 29% of students in
2003 were willing to receive sealants. In 2004, just 26% of the students were willing to receive
sealants resulting in 52% of students having tooth decay. Over the six year period, the dental
hygienists and nurses of Boston schools applied sealant and gave them 20 to 25 minutes of oral ...

The effectiveness of preventive education is moderated by the patient s beliefs and cultural and social
norms. In my home country, in the villages, it is the custom that people expect to lose their teeth by
the time they are old, so it takes a lot of persuasion to get them to believe they can keep their teeth if
they take care of them. Understanding different cultures increases the dental hygienist s competency
and trustworthiness. It is worthwhile being part of the diversity class. Thus, during the time I study in
the dental hygiene program I will have a chance to learn more about cultural differences in order to

Mental Stigma, Media Misrepresentation And The False...
Mental health issues affect society in many ways, such as identification, treatment, and overall
understanding; as a result of this they have been mocked and dismissed for most of history. This paper
is a thorough investigation into the long, tumultuous history of mental illnesses. The history of mental
stigma, media misrepresentation and the false branding of the LGBT+ community will be explored. In
addition, this paper goes into detail about the horrific past of the treatment of mental patients in
asylums and the evolution of the understanding of mental illnesses, from mystical phenomena to
chemical imbalances. Mental illnesses are not a thing of the past. They are also our present and future.
John Q. Adams once said, Who we are, is who we were. That quote accurately describes mental
illnesses and the mental health of humans everywhere. A mental illness can be defined as a health
condition that changes a person s thought process, emotions, behavior, and/or their body. Mental
illness causes a person distress and difficulty in functioning and can lead to atrophy. They are
ingrained in the wiring of many and they override safety precautions that the brain has set in place
against viruses. Mental health issues affect society in many ways, such as identification, treatment,
and overall understanding; as a result of this they have been mocked and dismissed for most of
history. For all of history, mankind has had some semblance of being aware of mental illnesses. The

Sia Furler Biography
Sia Furler, more commonly known by her stage name Sia, has been around since the late 90s. Furler s
discography spans from her first solo studio album OnlySee, released in December of 1997, to her
most recent This Is Acting, released in January of this year. Except for the last two albums she has
released, Furler s albums have received mediocre success in sales. Although when it comes to her
music, critics rarely have negative things to say. All of Furler s fans can agree her albums showcase
her talents as a vocalist, songwriter, and as a musician. Her album Some People Have Real Problems
showcases these talents in a way that makes her fans argue this is probably her best album out of all
seven. Some People Have Real Problems, released in 2008, is Furler s 5th studio album. This album
contains songs that cannot be placed into boxes, from the opening track Little Black Sandals, which
gives off an old time folk song vibe, to Buttons, the closer, which is alternative pop. Sia s unique way

comes in a variety from whisper singing to belts in her higher register. The bridges of her songs seem
to take the responsibility of being the more important sections. She combines using words with short
syllables and ad libs to create amazing harmonies and melodies that make the song stronger. She also
utilizes vocal cracks, which are undesired and are usually looked down on when singing, to

Pros And Cons Of Democratic Socialism
is a political ideology that advocates political democracy alongside social ownership of the means of
production, often with an emphasis on democratic management of enterprises within a socialist
economic system. The term democratic socialism is sometimes used synonymously with socialism ;
the adjective democratic is often added to distinguish it from the Marxist Leninist brand of socialism,
which is widely viewed as being non democratic in practice. Democratic socialism is also sometimes
used as a synonym for social democracy, although many say this is misleading because democratic
socialism advocates social ownership of the means of production, whereas social democracy does not.

Dj Dre Research Papers
DJ Zane Lowe announced some uplifting news this week, regarding the release of Dr. Dre s new, long
awaited album, Compton. Dre will be donating every single cent of the royalties he makes off of his
new album to help fund a performing arts center in Compton, California
Already, Dr. Dre s newest album has been garnering a lot of attention, seeing as the artist and producer
has only released two albums since the disbanding of N.W.A in the 1990s. Compton will Dre s first
album in sixteen years. According to Dre, however, the plan to donate his royalties to the city from
which his album received its name, simply felt like the perfect thing to do.
Dre will be teaming up with the Mayor of Compton, Aja Brown, for the Performing Arts Project.

The album itself includes sixteen new tracks by Dre, and will be featuring artists such as Snoop Dog,
Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and former N.W.A member Ice Cube. According to Dre, Compton is set to
be his grand finale, an album he can be proud of. Subtitled, A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, the album will
function as a sort of companion to the upcoming N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton, which is due
out in Theaters August 14th.
According the Dre, the movie functioned as a major inspiration for the creation of the album itself. I
felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album,
Dre admitted The Pharmacy, his Beats 1 radio segment, earlier this month. Of course, the album was
kept largely under wraps throughout its creation, leaving many fans to wonder about the state of Dre s

The Independence Of Meta Cinema And Authorship
Chapter 2
This chapter will examine the independence of meta cinema and authorship. As Valck and Hagener
stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic practice set up due to the prominence
of the film director emerges from passionate attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma,
and further aims to cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus,
auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception of filmmakers?
self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on European art cinema that the stress of
authorship covers the distinct style of art cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay,
representative art films are introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for
Night (La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to demonstrate this, I will
take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as
illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the
discussion on the projection of auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples
reflect the process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors?
individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been stated in film critiques
and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by Fran?ois Truffaut as

18th Century Music
During the 18th century, music was used as a social enhancement on the rising middle class who
showed interest in intellectual ideals of Enlightenment. The rising middle class were people who
would come between the working class and the upper class. Such as craftsman, bankers, and
merchants. These select few decided that since they can now afford some of life s pleasures, that they
would spend it on music that aristocrats and nobility would listen to. While on the other hand, during
the 19th century, music began to develop a more story base theme with a moral lesson. Such as Ballets
and Grand Operas. So basically, during the 18th 19th century, music has evolved from just sound or
noise to a elegant and graceful story played through musical notation with different musical
instruments while advancing the growth of the middle class.
To begin with , the 18th century was the Classical era. In which music had order, symmetry, and
formal restraint. Composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig
van Beethoven began creating music that pulled away from music that was mainly created for
churches. This secular music they created became entertainment for the aristocrats and the nobility. A
composer by the name of Johann Stamitz organized one of preliminary forms of the classical
orchestra. This orchestra consisted of the string section, the woodwind section, the brass section, and
the percussion section. The largest of the orchestra was called a symphony.

Bachelor Of Kinesiology Program Analysis
Good morning members of the University of Toronto admissions board. I would just like to begin by
thanking you all for allowing me to stand here in front of you today as you listen to my application for
a spot in your Bachelor of Kinesiology Program. After a long pursuit of trying to find the right
program, I came across yours and once I read the program description I knew right away that this was
the program for me. Not only do I think that this program is the perfect fit for me, I also believe that I
am the most deserving candidate. But why you may ask? What separates me from the rest? Three
reasons why I would make a deserving candidate for your Bachelor of Kinesiology Program include
the following: I possess a superlative work ethic, I have a passion to learn about the human body,
along with my remarkable interpersonal skills.

From an early age I have been fascinated by the workings of life. The human body is a remarkable
machine, the way bones break, muscles tear, and how when injuries like that happen your body
instantly starts to repair itself. My passion for the human body continues to grow each day, and when I
find out new information on it I can t help but become infatuated. For instance, I remember my mom
used to get these really bad leg cramps, she explained it as a sharp, excruciating pain that made her
unable to even stand, and I would always help her by massaging the area. It got to the point where
every time she got a cramp she would call out for me to help her because I always made the pain go
away. Our body is something that we have with us forever and to me, learning about our body s
physiological and biomechanical responses to exercise is something that intrigues me. Your
Kinesiology program focuses a lot on these topics, and I think that this course would be extremely
beneficial to

A Basic Understanding Of Network Competencies Essay
A basic understanding of network competencies is necessary to succeed in most technology fields and
it is a foundational requirement for roles that deal directly with network communications. In today s
connected world of the cloud, apps that depend on internet connectivity, and even thermostats that can
have their temperature set across the internet, the need to understand how networking works is
expanding beyond the traditional roles of Network Administrators, Network Engineers, and
information security professionals to developers, systems administrators, analysts, and support
personnel. A fundamental understanding of networking is necessary to succeed in most technology
jobs. Two such jobs are the Systems Administrator and the Systems Analyst, which have different
training and educational requirements. While much of the Systems Administrator s job revolves
around network related tasks, they also spend a lot of time on servers, software systems, databases,
and storage. Systems Administrators can be responsible for networking and most of what they do
depends on the network, the majority of their time is spent on Servers, software systems like Active
Directory or databases, applications, and storage. Most mid to large organizations will have at least
one dedicated Network Administrator or Network Engineer. The Systems Analyst job has a much
wider skill set, but it also includes some knowledge of computer networking. According to the Bureau

The Real General George Patton Essay
The Real General George Patton
World War II was the most destructive war in history. It began in 1939 as a
European conflict between Germany and a British and French alliance, but eventually included most
of the nations of the world. Most of the war was fought with the same types of weapons used in World
War I. The greatest advances were in aircraft and tanks.
Patton was the first soldier in the tank corps. He created the training procedures, the regulations and
the methods of instruction. At that time the American public saw Patton as an arrogant man who
enraged Americans because he slapped a soldier who was hospitalized for post traumatic stress
disorder, which at that time was called combat fatigue. The movie portrays ... Show more content on

However, in reality, at this point in time, he was still a lieutenant general and the decorations were
awarded to him after the war. Patton is shown in Morocco, where in
1941 he was the commander of the 2nd Armored Division. He was assigned to seize
Cassablanca, which he did. He went to the headquarters of Admiral Michelier with pearl handled
pistols and a tommy gun and impressed the Sultan of Morocco. One of the beginning scenes inthe
movie shows Patton being presented with the order of Ouissan
Alaouite. The citation actually says the memorable line in the movie, The lions in their dens tremble at
his approach. The changes in North Africa began on August 31, 1942, when Rommel attacked through
the southern flank of the British line west of
El Alamein. General Bernard Law Montgomery fought with Patton, and forced Rommel into a retreat.
Throughout the movie, Rommel and Patton are seen as major adversaries.
Three American, three British, and one Canadian divisions landed on Sicily on July 10,
1943. One of these divisions was General Patton s army. They pushed across the island and overcame
the last Axis opposition on August 17. The movie does not mention, however, that Mussolini had been
stripped of power on July 25, and the Italian government had entered into negotiations that ended in
an armistice on September 8. The movie does deal with the famous slapping incident. The movie does

I am beyond grateful that I was recommended to read it. The story telling was so descriptive, it put a
weight on my heart and made me think and contemplate about the book even when I was not reading
it. I think the author did everything perfectly, and I have no critiques. I would like to thank the author
for such an amazing historical account and piece of literature.
I would definitely recommend this book to other readers, no matter what their race is. I would
recommend this book because it contains harsh truth that needs to be acknowledged by everyone. This
book is a haunting act of love that I believe everyone can benefit from. The ideal readership for this
book is anyone who lives in America, and especially republicans who don t believe in giving
reparations to African Americans. After I read this book, I will read Purification of the Heart by

Aphorism
The way I live my life is mostly a train wreck. Puberty doesn t help and I oversleep. Regardless, my
life is the best because of the way I live it. Since life is a mess, I carry pride in the way that I get
excited over the little things and always attempt to have a positive attitude. If you re doing what makes
you happy, do that and nothing else. The reason this aphorism is really important is because copious
amounts of people don t live their life the way they want to. There are countless amounts of people
who have jobs they hate, situations they feel forced into, and many lost opportunities because they feel
they should be doing something else instead. If you want to go to college halfway around the world,

I get ecstatic over food I have huge affinities for; pickles. I also love animals, babies and copious other
pointless objects. It definitely makes an impact on your happiness. When I m really down I can easily
go back to the small things and instantly laugh at myself for the silliness of it all. It boosts my mood
and will often last for over half of the day. The small things go so far, where they even become much
larger in significance. Any situation will turn out 70% similar to what your attitude is. Attitude is
spread easily and caught just as easily. If you start a project or any activity with a hidebound attitude,
you re going to finish with the same attitude. Being positive also helps if you re battling a mental
illness or just struggling with a homework assignment. So remain sanguine and remember during the
midst of hardship everything will be okay . Put on some lipstick, a nice pair of jeans, and a smile
because you can do anything. We all have countless opportunities and experiences in life that are
spoiled or lost because of a limitation we set for ourselves that doesn t exist. You could go anywhere
you want in the world. You could go skydiving or ride a scary rollercoaster. More importantly, you can
overcome adversity such as drama or setbacks like not getting accepted into your dream college.

The League Of Nations During World War I
The League of Nations was started after World War I to try to bring peace to this world after this
horrid war we had just been in. It was proposed by Woodrow Wilson, to the allied forces to join in this
league to use arbitration to make decisions on other nations matters so it can be solved before they try
to start a war. This might sound all well but if you think about it, it is impossible to achieve world
peace in general. The League of Nations was a great idea but in reality the US should not have joined
the League of Nations. The League s goals included disarmament, preventing war through collective
security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation and diplomacy, and improving global
welfare. Despite these bold aims, the League proved incapable of preventing aggression by the fascist
powers in late 1930s. The United Nations effectively replaced it after World War II and inherited a
number of agencies and organizations founded by the League. The opposition to the League of
Nations comes from four sources: The extreme Socialists and radical revolutionists who look on all
measures devised by government as at present constitution as capitalistic and as bourgeois makeshifts
; from constitutives who considers any change as dangerous and revolutionary; from Republican party
leaders who want to make political capital against Wilson a democrat, and from those who believe in
an extreme nationalism and who feel that any international agreement will curb

Civilization s Disappearance
For 700 years, the Indus civilization provided its individuals with wealth, abundance and its own
artisan produced goods of surpassing beauty and quality. But, as suddenly as the civilization emerged,
it disappeared and declined.
Around 1900 BC, signs began to emerge of mounting problems. People started to leave the cities and
those who remained suffered from malnutrition. By around 1800 BC, most of the cities were
uninhabited. In the centuries to come and again, in sharp contrast to its contemporaries, Mesopotamia
and ancient Egypt recollection of the Indus civilization and its achievements seemed to disappear from
the record of human experience. Unlike the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians, the citizens of

A tectonic event may have diverted the system s sources toward the Ganges Plain, though there is
some uncertainty about the date of this event. The region in which the river s waters formerly arose is
acknowledged to be geologically active, and there is evidence of major tectonic events at the time the
Indus civilization collapsed. The river s very existence was unknown until the late 20th century, when
geologists used satellite photographs to trace its former course through the Indus Valley. If the
Ghaggar Hakra river system dried up when the Indus civilization was at its height, the consequences
would have been devastating. The refugees would have flooded the other cities. The critical mass
needed for economic integration would have collapsed. Although this particular factor is speculative,
and not generally accepted, the decline of the Indus Valley Civilization, as with any other civilization,
will have been due to a combination of a variety of catastrophic reasons.
In the declining years, Indus civilization people tried to hang on to their old way of life, but in the end,
they gave up. By 1600 BC, the cities were neglected. In the 19th century, British engineers discovered
that the abundant bricks found in the ruins in which they expressed no evident curiosity provided

Immanuel Kant s Duties Towards Animals
In his work titles, Duties Towards Animals, Immanuel Kant makes the assertion that humans have no
obligations towards animals, as humans are superior to other forms of life ( Duties Towards Animals
564). He defends this position by defining animals to not be self conscious, as Kant only counts beings
that are rational and autonomous in his principle of humanity (Groundwork of the Metaphysics of
Morals 43). This principle states that all humans should always be treated as an end, and never merely
as a means to achieve your own personal goals (Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals 42). Kant
proceeds to point out that we have a duty to have positive interactions with animals so that humans
can practice their gracious behavior, and ultimately apply it to human interactions. It is ... Show more

Additionally, it is declared that a human heart can be judged by the demeanor in which he handles
animals ( Duties Towards Animals 564). Kant makes the observation that animals take great care of
their young, which should lead humans to develop an admiration for them. Even seemingly cruel and
bloodthirsty animals, such as the wolf, exhibit love for their kin, which makes it hard to justify cruel
acts towards any animal ( Duties Towards Animals 564). Those who are desensitized and used to
killing irrational animals without a second thought, such as butchers and doctors, are not permitted to
serve on juries, as they are calloused from dealing with the death of animals ( Duties Towards Animals
565). Although scientists who use animals in experiments are morbid, Kant deems this acceptable
behavior, as their tests will ultimately benefit humans ( Duties Towards Animals 565). Likewise,
animals are referred to as man s instruments in this passage, implying that their sole purpose of
existence is to enhance man s quality of

The Dark Ages Of The Middle Ages
The Renaissance was the period in European history that referred how people were finally learning
about the Classical antiquity. It also marked the translation from the Middle Ages to the Modern
world. The length of the period lasted from 14th century to the 17th century, but it forever changed the
Western World.
People during the Renaissance viewed the other periods throughout history differently.
Everyone was worshipping the Classical antiquity since the people were free to think and question
while the Middle Ages caused people to go into silence for fears of punishment. They were most
disgusted with the Middle Ages because of how much it wasn t the Classical antiquity. The Dark Ages,
a nickname for the Middle Ages made by the Renaissance, were often described the backwards
civilization that had formed after the Western Roman Empire collapsed. However, Classical antiquity
appealed every Renaissance man and woman because their artworks and ruins were found all over
Europe and it caused people to be curious about it. Once they learn of the Romans and the Greeks, it
led to people coming up with their own ideas while challenging the Catholic Church s ideas. Once the
Renaissance began and spread across Europe, major discoveries would forever change world history.
There were several discoveries going on during the Renaissance that forever changed the world. One
of those most important discoveries was the exploration of the New World. Christopher Columbus, the

In the article Sexuality and Social Standing In Jan van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait the author
analyzes the religious and social grammars of marriage. This short paper will be a reflection of
Harbison s article that discusses religious and marital norms throughout, with also analyzing various
sections of van Eyck s piece, for example: implying the piece as a marriage document or contract of
the marriage, which immediately makes the viewer look deeper into the double portrait. All of this
helped me realize that pieces of art are not simply pictures, rather they are narratives like a scene in a
documentary. The author starts the article with a clear thesis of analyzing the social religious and
marital norms when this piece was made. There are different scenes of this portrait that van Eyck s
uses throughout to identify social standards of the time this piece was done. The fruit is there to
identify the intimacy of marriage. The dog and gargoyles also represent various implications of
religiosities. Going in enormous detail of what everything means. The gargoyles are there to display

that this statement was hugely important because it changes the entire dynamic of the conclusion.
From that point on it is implied that the author has an open mind of the piece at hand, while it does

1. Hatha yoga
Hatha yoga is often used interchangeably with the word yoga and classes are usually slow paced
involving stretching, some simple breathing exercises and some seated meditations. If you are a
beginner then this is a good place to start so that you can spend time learning the basic techniques.

The speed of the movements is very much dictated by the teacher, so if you find that a class is too fast
for you look for a different teacher. In order to appreciate vinyasa you need to have a teacher that you
are comfortable with as their style will shape the class, keep looking until you find someone you
connect with.
3. Ashtanga
Ashtanga is a series of poses which realign the spine, detoxify the body and build strength, stamina
and flexibility. There are 75 poses in all and they can take anywhere between an hour and a half to two
hours to complete. You start with sun salutations and then move to standing poses, seated poses,
inversions and backbends before finishing with relaxation.
You can learn ashtanga at a teacher led class, and then when you are happy with the order of the poses
you can either practice on your own or in a mysore class where you practice at your own pace but
have a teacher for guidance.
Ashtanga is a very athletic form of practice and is very popular. If you like a sense of order then this
style will appeal to

My Favorite Waste Of Time
Bishop Asaiah took us places at times. One of my favorite places to go was to the public pool in the
valley. On Saturdays, we would go to the park with the swimming to the Public Pool. But there is one
day that stands out in my mind about the creativity of my friend Terry. Our Park Story! During the
summer months on Saturday mornings, some of us kids would go to the public swimming pool. I was
12 years old and enjoyed cooling off and splashing in the water. I always wanted to swim in the pool
longer than my friends. I was the dark girl (half black), and everyone else was white except my
brother. They used to frustrate me to no end because they didn t want to swim the entire time. They
wanted to lay out with their towels and lay on the cement and get tans.
My thinking was A tan is an annoying waste of time if you are born with a perfect color of skin. They
would smile and tell me how lucky I was to be a bit darker, then roll over to make sure their tan would
be even. I did not want to go in the pool by myself.
One summer afternoon, though, it was just my friend Terry and me. We had gone swimming at the
pool, and then we dressed back into shirts and shorts. We walked to the park to find something to do
waiting for our ride back home. We decided to play catch. Of course, we did not have a ball. I do not
even remember balls at the Fountain. But with Terry s creativity, we played catch without something
to throw. So we stood in the green

Coercive Power And Its Effects On Society
In terms of social sciences and politics, power is the ability to influence or outright control people s
behavior. Power may be viewed as evil or unjust, but the exercise of power is generally accepted as
pervasive to humans as social beings. Never the less, power comes in many forms and each form has
its own implications. One of these forms is coercion, and it is usually called Coercive Power .
Coercive power termed as the ability to create fear in people with the possibility of inflicting pain or

A large part of organizational behavior could be explained in terms of coercive power rather than
reward power. In a 1959 study, social psychologists John R. P. French and Bertram Raven developed a
schema of sources of power in order to analyze how power plays function, or fail, in specific
relationships. According to them, the concept of power is fundamentally relative, depending on
specific understandings developed into relationships, and recognition of a quality that motivates the
influence of the power holder, and carries out his or her intentions via the affected. It was French and
Raven, who argued and established five significant categories of power, in addition to other minor
categories. Coercive power is among the five significant categories, and the duo has noted that
coercive power tends to be the most obvious, but at the same time least effective form of power. This,
according to them, is because coercive power builds resentment and resistance from the people who
are subjected to it. As threats, punishments and force are common means of exerting coercive power,
relying on this type of power can result in a deficient leadership style. When viewed in a political
context, coercive power is applied, and even tolerable, when applied with the justification of social
and legal norms. It can also be tolerated when the leadership group is viewed as successful.
Coercive methods are

about the attack except the Japanese. Even though the U.S sensed the Japanese on radar, it was a
surprise attack. The bombings began by the time they were able to figure out what was happening.
Before the Pearl Harbor Attack, there was already some tension between the Japanese and the
Americans as America had stopped trading oil, which was crucial to the Japanese, and was applying
pressure on Japan for invading other South East Asian countries, which the Americans did not want to
happen. An article on Encyclopedia Britannica explains the Pearl Harbor attack. The attack on Pearl
Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941. It was a surprise airborne attack on the U.S. naval base at
Pearl Harbor on Oahu Island, Hawaii, by the Japanese that led to the entry of the United States into
World War II. Japan s invasion of China in 1937 and its occupation of French Indochina in July 1941
caused the United States to respond that same month by stopping Japanese assets in the United States
and declaring a restriction on petroleum shipments and other war materials to Japan. By late 1941 the
United States had severed practically all commercial and financial relations with Japan. Though Japan

Exploring The Cost Of Hydraulic Fracturing Essay
Exploring the Cost of Hydraulic Fracturing in Colorado: What are the potential effects of the Tres Rio
2016 Oil and Gas Lease/Sale on Montezuma County s public health, ecological communities, and
economic stability?
Introduction
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique often administered by oil and gas companies in order
to create fissures within subsurface shale formations. After a site is established, the initial step entails
breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill moves through the
rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The drill ceases
immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the drill is
removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination of the
water source and as a safety measure.
Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be
introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas
exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow. The
gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and chemicals
into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored.
Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as an
energy source. Radioactive waste water also

Crooks American Dream
1. The impossibility of the American Dream Most of the characters in Of Mice and Men admit, at one
point or another, to dreaming of a different life. For example, before Curley s wife death, she
confesses her desire to be a movie star. Also, Crooks allows himself the pleasant fantasy of hoeing a
patch of garden on Lennie s farm one day, and Candy latches on desperately to George s vision of
owning a couple of acres. Before the action of the story begins, circumstances have robbed most of the
characters of these wishes. Curley s wife, for instance, she has resigned herself to an unfulfilling
marriage. What makes all of these dreams typically American is that the dreamers wish for
untarnished happiness and the freedom to follow their own desires. ... Show more content on

Loneliness is present throughout this novel. For example, this isolation is shown when the ranch hands
go into town on Saturday night to ease their loneliness with alcohol and women. Similarly, Lennie
goes into Crook s room to find someone to talk, and later Curley s wife comes for the same reason.
Crooks says, A guy goes nuts if he ain t got nobody. Don t make no difference who the guy is, long s
he s with you . (72) Even Slim mentions, I seen the guys that go around on the ranches alone. That ain
t no good. They don t have no fun. After a long time they get mean. (41) George s taking care of
Lennie and the dream of the farm are attempts to break the pattern of loneliness which is part of the
human condition. Lennie s desire to pet soft things comes from his need to feel safe and secure, to
touch something that gives him that feeling of not being alone in the world. For Lennie, the dream of
the farm parallels that security. However, George and Lennie are not the only characters who struggle
against loneliness, the theme of loneliness is most notably present in Candy, Crooks, and Curley s
wife. They all fight against their isolation in whatever way they can. For example, until its death,
Candy s dog stopped Candy from being alone in the world. After its death, Candy struggles against
loneliness by sharing in George and Lennie s dream. Curley s wife is also lonely

Essay on Communication Technologies in Canada
Communication Technologies in Canada
Canada is also very unique in the global economy in light of their communication technologies.
Canada is a unique country because it allows two main companies control its communication industry.
The two big players in the game are Rogers, who control eastern Canada, and Shaw, who control
western Canada.
Rogers Communication started with a vision that radio is an electric pipeline by Edward S. Rogers, Sr.
In 1925 Mr. Rogers, Sr. invented the world s first alternating current (AC) radio tube. 1 The radio tube
was a huge break through in communication technology and in radio reception, and as a result of the
invention; radios became common medium of communication.

They provide support from national initiatives to grass roots charities 6. Some of their funds include
Rogers Cable network fund, Rogers Documentary fund, and Rogers Telefund.
One big sector in the Canadian economy that Rogers control is in the radio broadcasting. Canada s
most listened to broadcasting company is Rogers Media Broadcasting .7 Some of the stations they
own are 680 NEWS (CFTR AM 680), CHFI FM (98.1), KISS FM (92.5), CKBY FM (105.3),
OCEAN FM (CIOC FM 98.5), NEWS1130 (CKWX AM 1130), XFM (CKVX FM 104.9), and CJIB
AM (940). A very diverse range of stations, catering to almost all Canadians, making the Radio arm of
Rogers unique in itself.
Radio broadcasting in Canada is unique itself. Minimum of the music played on Canadian radio
stations between 6am to 6pm must contain 35% of Canadian content. And to be considered a Canadian
artist, an artist must contain two of these requirements from this list: Production must be Canadian;
Artist must be Canadian; Music must be Canadian; or the Lyrics must be Canadian.8 The Canadian
government takes full pride in protecting the content on Canadian airways and the government
maintains this control by limiting foreign ownership of communication companies.
Rogers, not only has a hand in radio communication, it also has a hand in print media. Rogers Media
is also Canada s largest publishing company. They own many of Canada s major

  • 2. Ayala Hypothesis The Creation of the Hypothesis Ayala discusses the contradictions between how Darwin described his findings to the scientific world and his experimental methods. Darwin used deductive reasoning for his research but presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning. In the 19th century the deductive method wasn t accepted because it was said to be making assumptions by forming a hypothesis and instead inductive methods were used. Darwin did not want a bad reputation and that is why Darwin presented his findings as if he had used inductive reasoning and not the actual scientific method. The inductive process helped obtain more precise and empirical information through research but it failed to explain the methods used by scientists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ayala also talks about the four points of testing a hypothesis and the criterion of demarcation. The first step is to examine that the hypothesis is consistence and does not contradict itself or any universal idea. Second, the hypothesis must be examined for understanding of why the phenomena may occurred as noted; the hypothesis must be itself explanatory. The third step is to examine the hypothesis for consistency with other stated hypothesis or theories accepted in the science world. Lastly, the hypothesis must be put on trial to observe if the hypothesis agrees with what is actually observed, the results. This is the criterion of demarcation; where the hypothesis does not have to be consistence with the empirical world of science and can also be proven wrong; then the hypothesis becomes scientific. In conclusion, Ayala states the contradictions between how Darwin actually performed his research and how he presented his research to the scientific community. Darwin presented his research as inductive reasoning but he actually performed his research using deductive reasoning because of the reputation a hypothesis had in the 19th century. Ayala describes how a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The climate also affected the different turnout of the north and the south. The southern colonies have characteristics that are the opposites of the New England colony s attributes. The Southern Colonies were the Province of North Carolina, Province of South Carolina, Virginia and Province of Georgia. The Southern colonies were developed for freedom of economic opportunity.Their economy was supported by plantations, mostly run by slaves. The South would focus more on massive slaves work to grow tobacco and rice that they would sell to England. The southern colonies had goals for mercantilism, and increasing the prosperity of England. • 6. Stem Cells And Its Effects On Human Cells Stem cells are undifferentiated cells within the body that are defined by their ability to self renew and differentiate into specialized cells (1). Stem cells function in body tissues as a repair mechanism, with an unlimited ability to divide and restock cells as needed by the body. Each time a stem cell divides, the new cell formed can either remain a stem cell or differentiate into a specialized cell, such as a brain cell. Traditionally, there are two main types of stem cells: human embryonic stem cells [HESCs] and adult somatic stem cells. In 1981,embryonic stem cells were the first type of stem cell to be discovered (2). Embryonic stem cells originate from four to five day old embryos formed during the blastocyst phase of embryological development. The embryos used to derive stem cells are usually extras that were created using in vitro fertilization and not implanted (2). Induced pluripotent stem cells [iPS cells] are specialized adult somatic cells that have been genetically modified to function similarly to embryonic stem cells; that is, iPS cells have the ability to differentiate into all adult cell types (2). The discovery of iPS cells in 2006 was very exciting for the medical community as researchers hoped to use iPS cells in many ways, including: to gain an increased understanding of disease pathology, as aids in transplant medicine, and in pharmaceutical and cytotoxicity studies. • 14. The Independence Of Meta Cinema And Authorship Chapter 2 This chapter will examine the independence of meta cinema and authorship. As Valck and Hagener stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic practice set up due to the prominence of the film director emerges from passionate attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma, and further aims to cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus, auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception of filmmakers? self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on European art cinema that the stress of authorship covers the distinct style of art cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay, representative art films are introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for Night (La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to demonstrate this, I will take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the discussion on the projection of auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples reflect the process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors? individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been stated in film critiques and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by Fran?ois Truffaut as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These select few decided that since they can now afford some of life s pleasures, that they would spend it on music that aristocrats and nobility would listen to. While on the other hand, during the 19th century, music began to develop a more story base theme with a moral lesson. Such as Ballets and Grand Operas. So basically, during the 18th 19th century, music has evolved from just sound or noise to a elegant and graceful story played through musical notation with different musical instruments while advancing the growth of the middle class. To begin with , the 18th century was the Classical era. In which music had order, symmetry, and formal restraint. Composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven began creating music that pulled away from music that was mainly created for churches. This secular music they created became entertainment for the aristocrats and the nobility. A composer by the name of Johann Stamitz organized one of preliminary forms of the classical orchestra. This orchestra consisted of the string section, the woodwind section, the brass section, and the percussion section. The largest of the orchestra was called a symphony. ... It was proposed by Woodrow Wilson, to the allied forces to join in this league to use arbitration to make decisions on other nations matters so it can be solved before they try to start a war. This might sound all well but if you think about it, it is impossible to achieve world peace in general. The League of Nations was a great idea but in reality the US should not have joined the League of Nations. The League s goals included disarmament, preventing war through collective security, settling disputes between countries through negotiation and diplomacy, and improving global welfare. Despite these bold aims, the League proved incapable of preventing aggression by the fascist powers in late 1930s. The United Nations effectively replaced it after World War II and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the League. This principle states that all humans should always be treated as an end, and never merely as a means to achieve your own personal goals (Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals 42). One summer afternoon, though, it was just my friend Terry and me. We had gone swimming at the pool, and then we dressed back into shirts and shorts. We walked to the park to find something to do waiting for our ride back home. We decided to play catch. Of course, we did not have a ball. I do not even remember balls at the Fountain. A large part of organizational behavior could be explained in terms of coercive power rather than reward power. In a 1959 study, social psychologists John R. P. French and Bertram Raven developed a schema of sources of power in order to analyze how power plays function, or fail, in specific relationships. According to them, the concept of power is fundamentally relative, depending on specific understandings developed into relationships, and recognition of a quality that motivates the influence of the power holder, and carries out his or her intentions via the affected. It was French and Raven, who argued and established five significant categories of power, in addition to other minor categories. Coercive power is among the five significant categories, and the duo has noted that coercive power tends to be the most obvious, but at the same time least effective form of power. This, according to them, is because coercive power builds resentment and resistance from the people who are subjected to it. As threats, punishments and force are common means of exerting coercive power, relying on this type of power can result in a deficient leadership style. When viewed in a political context, coercive power is applied, and even tolerable, when applied with the justification of social and legal norms. After a site is established, the initial step entails breaking through the soil and stone via a bit placed at the end of a drill. As the drill moves through the rock layers, it utilizes air pressure to drive fragmented rocks to the surface. The drill ceases immediately after it comes into contact with the first indication of fresh water. Once the drill is removed, cement is incorporated into the drilled hole in an effort to prevent contamination of the water source and as a safety measure. Secondary steps require a perforated gun producing high magnitude electrical currents to be introduced down the wellbore (oil field terminology pertaining to a hole generated from oil/gas exploration), helping drive holes into the cement and ultimately enabling a channel for gas flow. The gun is then removed. Under high pressure, the drill pumps a solution of water, sand, and chemicals into the established site, allowing the gas (methane) to be released and stored. Finally, a pipeline constructed from the storage space to the consumer market supplies the gas as an energy source. Radioactive waste water also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What makes all of these dreams typically American is that the dreamers wish for untarnished happiness and the freedom to follow their own desires. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a long time they get mean. (41) George s taking care of Lennie and the dream of the farm are attempts to break the pattern of loneliness which is part of the human condition. Lennie s desire to pet soft things comes from his need to feel safe and secure, to touch something that gives him that feeling of not being alone in the world. For Lennie, the dream of the farm parallels that security. However, George and Lennie are not the only characters who struggle against loneliness, the theme of loneliness is most notably present in Candy, Crooks, and Curley s wife. They all fight against their isolation in whatever way they can. For example, until its death, Candy s dog stopped Candy from being alone in the world.
