The Movies That Rose From The Grave By Max Brooks
In the modern movie genre, horror movies accounts for very great proportion of the number of
followers. Relevantly, the zombie film genre has been developed into a dominant part of
mainstream horror, replacing the previous monster such as vampires and werewolves. In Max
Brooks s essay The Movies That Rose From the Grave , he offers his opinion that throughout the
process of zombie filmtransformation, it increasingly captivates viewers while gradually generates
the modern horror. Brooks s essay should be an appropriate inclusion of a college textbook which
explains the phenomenon of the undead explosion in various kinds of media, proving to the
audiences with enthusiasm, interest, credibility and specific examples that zombie culture is
resurrecting a formerly obsolete genre.
Reading through the whole essay, there are many appealing strategies found in order to strengthen
the essay academically. Brooks attracts the audience with a pathos style strategy, giving specific
movie examples to straighten up the essay. The movie Night of the Living Deadresonates the
viewers with an image of a flesh eating and harmful zombie figure instead of a harmless voodoo
created zombie, which makes the notion of zombies transformed into a horrifying figure,
provoking the sense of fear of audience with emotional appeal. The revolutionary creation of
zombie film was led by George A. Romero, the father of the entirely new horror genre. In his work,
zombies are characterized as a form of undead

The Link Between Poverty And Diabetes
According to the American Diabetes Association, more Americans die each year from diabetes
than from AIDS and breast cancer combined. As a result, researchers have extensively studied
the causes, treatments, and interventions for diabetes. Despite efforts to ameliorate its effects,
diabetes remains a prevalent danger in society. In 2014, 7% of U.S. adults were living with
diagnosed diabetes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). In Louisiana that
number was even higher 10.4% of adults have been diagnosed with diabetes. Breaking it down
by age group, however, in Louisiana 3% of people aged 18 and 44 have been diagnosed, and 15.2%
of people 45 64. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015a). Several studies have
predicted future rates of diabetes both in the United Statesand worldwide nearly all of these studies
reached a similar conclusion: rates of diabetes will continue to rise (Boyle et al., 2001).
Many studies have examined the link between poverty and diabetes. The CDC (2015b) have
identified the following as primary factors that lead an individual to have an increased risk of
developing diabetes: being overweight or obese; having a parent or sibling with diabetes; having
African American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic American
/Latino heritage; having a history of gestational diabetes; having blood pressure measuring 140/90
or higher; abnormal cholesterol; and being physically inactive.

Analysis Of I Am Sam
The movie, I Am Sam is about a single father who has a developmental disability and who has an
IQ of a seven year old who wants and tries to take care of his baby daughter. He had his daughter,
Lucy with a homeless woman and she left Sam just after she had her. There are some
complications and then he loses her through court because people convince him he could not
give her the love she deserved. The article online and the movie were the same. In many people s
opinion, books are better than the movies but I feel the opposite way. I like to watch the movies
and see all the emotion and drama visually and not comprehensively. The lesson or purpose of the
movie is to have people learn or to teach people that all people need is love. It is also... Show more

Audiologists mainly work with individuals who have balance, hearing, or other ear problems.
They try and diagnose what the individual has and both professions will have the individuals
have appointments with them to see if they can help them out in any way they can. Personally, I
loved the movie, I Am Sam. I loved how it portrayed someone who has developmental
disabilities and what some issues they run into in their life. I liked how dramatic and emotional
the movie was. When a movie is emotional like this one, it makes the audience pay attention
more and wonder what happens in the end so it makes them finish the movie or book. I liked
how it showed the problems or issues Sam had trying to take care of Lucy. It broke my heart
when she said, she did not want to read the word because her dad could not read it. She did not
want to be smarter than her father which I thought was amazing. The director did a fantastic job
writing this film. All of the points he wanted to get to the audience, I feel did. The actor, Sean
Paul, did a wonderful job impersonating someone with a developmental disability. The director s
goal was to have people that were his targeted audience, try and think about what they take for
granted and show that people need love and support just as much as anyone else that is important
to them. People never know what other stories other people have and are going through. It is
always nice to be kind and to be a supportive human being. There were a couple parts I

Characterization Of Ramayana Ram
Every one has a Ram within. What is Ram? A person, a hero, a god or just a concept? Ram could
have traits of what we define as Ravana and Sita.
Ramayana is a myth that shows different traits as different characters. People have translated it in
their own ways most commonly Ram to be the hero, the braveness; Sita to be a victim, the weak
one; Ravana to be the villain, the bad side. Everyone could have all of these traits together. It is
how you behave differently to each person in your life. And how you react in every situation.
This paper is trying to explore the different sides to a character through Ramayana.
This paper takes the approach where characters of Ramayana are concepts. It also explores
Characters in different relations; as a son, a husband, a brother, and a king. Concepts meaning traits
found in the person. It could be something Ram stand for.

But was the myth only about Ram? Did the other characters have no role at all? Were they not
important enough or worthy enough?
Over the years there have been different telling of Ramayana. The word telling is used instead of
version because version is used when you have an original but nobody knows where did the
Ramayana originate. And as times changed people have adapted the Ramayana according to their
surroundings. The story may be the
same in every Ramayana, but the discourse may be vastly
different. Even the structure and sequence of events may be the same, but the style,
details,
tone, and texture may be vastly different.
Devdutt Patnaik as well has a slightly different take on Ramayana as well. He does not portray
Ram to be a hero, Sita to be a Victim and Ravana to be a villain but Ram is a god, Sita is the
goddess, Ravana is just a Brahmin who fails to expand his mind. He describes Ramayana not as
Rams journey but as the story of Sita and

This assignment will be mainly about network components and how do they operate, what are their
functions and what are their flaws.
Question 1a) A bridge is a type of device that enables the connection with other bridge networks
that uses the same protocol. Bridge operates at the data link layer which the PDU layer is called

Why China Has A Growing Middle Class
Due to recent advances in technology, communication, and transportation, companies are no longer
confined to just one country to market and sell their products in. This has presented many
companies with global opportunities. China, one of the fastest growing countries in regard to
economy and population, presents a very appealing market to businesses looking to expand. China
has a growing middle class that no longer has to be as price sensitive (Barton, Chen, Yin, 2013),
and this is good news for American companies that have a strong brand name and do not
necessarily rely on a cheap price to sell their goods. China is also experiencing an increased
demand for biscuits and crackers, but many people are also becoming more health conscious (
Entering the Biscuit Market in China: There is Still a Chance, 2014). These presents Nabisco, a
strong brand name in the United States, the perfect opportunity to expand their graham crackerline
into China.
Nabisco s graham crackers do not have too much variety in the United States. Its Honey Maid
line consists of honey, vanilla, chocolate, and cinnamon flavors. Nabisco also produces Honey
Maid Dippers and Teddy Grahams that are smaller than the original graham crackers and are
perfect for smaller hands. The graham crackers are sold by box sizes ( Varieties, 2016). These can
be purchased at almost every grocery store and are typically found in the cookie and cracker aisle.
As mentioned before, China has the potential to be a viable

like drinking. His every act and thought centered on self; drinking pleasure with bestial avidity
from any degree of torture to another ().As the quote demonstrates Hyde enjoys drinking, which
he cannot do as Dr. Jekyll, living in an oppressed Victorian society. The small and harmful
temptation like drinking leads to more serious offences. As this boosts, Jekyll s confidence, he
ends up indulging into violent acts, With ape like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot,
and hailing down a storm of blows (). The simile in this quote delineates Jekyll s unexpressed
desire that erupts through Hyde. His small desires manifests into bigger crimes. Stevenson uses
this theory to showcase temptation the evil cause of problems in mankind. Victorian England is a
major backdrop in Dr. Jekyll s experiment to have double personalities. The fog still slept on the

One who claims any gender other than male or female would be considered taboo or highly
unusual by our society. Biological sex is often thought to determine one s gender identity.
Though sex and gender align for the mass of our population, there is a minority group that does
not feel that they belong to either male or female genders. To understand gender fluidity, one
must recognize that sometimes a person s gender and sex do not align. A person may not feel
that their biological sex reflects who they are, they may feel uncomfortable with the expectations
and roles placed on them due to their sex. These gender roles are created by social expectations of
our western society. Gender roles are merely social constructs, and if one does not want to conform
to societies conjectures placed on them due to their biological sex, they should have the freedom to
non conform.
We must protest and express our discontent with society in order to make a change. Martin Luther
King Jr. carefully and patiently explained his philosophy and what he wanted from the masses.
He wanted support and for everyone to understand his plan and what he wanted to get out of the
protests. This can be applied to the contemporary issue of opposing gender fluidity by comparing
the issues and what should be done about them. If gender advocates followed in the footsteps of
Martin Luther King Jr. and work with the delicacy that King did, we would be

Developing nations especially face problems of overpopulation because of their tendency to have
more children to work and support the families. Many of the most overpopulated nations are
located in the Middle East, as well as in nations of Europe.
II. Past UN Actions: In order to address the issue of overpopulation, the United Nations established
the UN Population Fund in 1973 to become the initial manager in promoting population
programmes. The UNFPA primarily focuses on educating individuals, as well as governments, on
healthcare and family services in order to provide the information they need to ensure safe and
planned pregnancies for families. This corporation also advocates for gender equality and youth
empowerment in conjunction with communities, academic institutions, and numerous
organizations to promote the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action. In addition, the
UN Population Division and the UN Statistics Division bring together information on prevalent
issues, such as migration and development, marriage and fertility figures, and expansion around the

Over the years, I felt that the Starbucks in Allentown seems like a meeting a place for all ages. Why

Once called, they quickly collected their order and left without any fanfare. The second group of
customers, waited patiently in front of the coffee making area while their order was prepared
for them. One customer began eating the food he had ordered, while most of them were
conversing with other patrons about the weather and recent snowstorm. However, once their
order was ready and their name called they picked up their order and left, not before wishing the

Comparing The Lottery And One Friday Morning
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
There are two stories that are used in the 1940s unit: The Lottery and One Friday Morning .
Though One Friday Morning by Langston Hughes has great symbolism, The Lottery by Shirley
Jackson is the best short story to keep in the 1940s unit, because there is a lot of imagery, the
mood is very clear, and the suspense hooks the reader.
The first reason why The Lottery is the best short story to keep in the 1940s unit is because it has a
very clear mood. In particular, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson has a very clear mood, because of
this passage, By now, all through the crowd there were men holding the small folded papers in their

imagine a very proper guy in simple but nice clothing with his hand resting on the black box

and personality disorders (CDC, 2015 and WHO ,2012, p.4).The second level of the model
describes the relationship factors; this can be conflicts in the partnership such as displeasure or

Fecal Transplantation Therapy (Presentation Outline by Samantha McClenahan)

Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a procedure in which fecal matter, or stool, is collected from
a tested donor, mixed with a saline or other solution, strained, and placed in a patient, by
colonoscopy, endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or enema.
The purpose of fecal transplant is to replace good bacteria that has been killed or suppressed,
usually by the use of antibiotics, causing bad bacteria, specifically Clostridium difficile, or C. diff.,
to over populate the colon.
C. difficile colitis may be associated with diarrhea, abdominal cramping and sometimes fever and

The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay
The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which
society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science,
religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the
period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic
Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death,
there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned
to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as
opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a
Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied
the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas
one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons,
the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and
theologically, and scientifically. His works not only represented the period, they affected the
continuance of the Renaissance.

Analysis Of A Bronx Morning And Manhatta
Bethany Blake
Professor Roberts
Progression 3
Final Draft Resubmission
Although they may seem very different on the surface, the two city symphonies, A Bronx Morning
and Manhatta converse very well with each other. They both manage to capture and emphasize the
aspects of New York Citythat make up what they love about or what they see the city as. What the
filmmaker wants to show their audience members, and how they wish to portray the city they are
filming is what dictates what he or she chooses to focus in on, or graze over in their filmmaking
process. Both A Bronx Morning and Manhatta capture the city of Manhattan in completely different
yet similar ways, and this all has to do with the film makers choice of how to organize and present
their material to their audience, yet they both manage to mystify New York City.
This can be related to what Michael de Certeau speaks about in his essay, Walking in the City . A
person, through walking and living in one place, writes their own story or poem; or draws their
own picture. A person s experience living in a particular place during a particular time, can be
completely different from a person born at the exact same time and who lives in the exact same
place as they do its all about perspective and life experience. In his article, de Certeau introduces
this concept of walkers being wandersmanners, whose bodies follow the thicks and thins of an
urban text they write about without being able to read it (93). This

Feminist Theory Of Griselda Pollock
Foucault s work gave the terms discursive practices and discursive formation to the analysis of
particular institutions and their ways of establishing orders of truth, or what is accepted as reality

understood as reinforcing certain already established identities or subjectivities in matters of

(Millhouse, 2011) In the 1980 s Pollock s Feminism critiqued the essential myths of individualism,
the artist, and the social constructions of femininity and masculinity that define bourgeois
culture . While the 70 s feminism movement aim was to stand next to the existing masculine
dominated culture. Feminism s encounter with the canon has been complexed and many
leveled: political ,ideology, mythological, methodological and psycho symbolic (Pollock, 1999).
The 1970 s movement was followed by the immediate task which was the need to rectify the
gaps in historical knowledge created by the consistent omission of women of all cultures from
the history of art (Pollock, 1999). The only art that was put on display was significantly male
dominated work, if you wanted to see work created by women, you would have to view them in
a basement or storeroom of a national gallery (Pollock, 1999). Female artists are only known in
their own category of female artists while male artists don t require a separate category . Art that
is created by females have been historically dismissed from the art historical canon as craft, as

Women s Language And Textual Strategies
For a number of years now, issues of language have been at the forefront of feminist scholarship.
This has been as true in psychology, anthropology, and history as in literary theory and linguistics.
Yes oddly, the studies that result often seem to have little in common. Psychologist Carol Giligan
writes about women s voice, historian Carol Smith Rosenberg wants to hear women s words,
anthropologist Shirkey Ardener and Kay Warren discuss women s silence and cultural muteness,
literary critics form Elaine Showalter to Toril Moi explore women s languageand textual strategies.
But it is not at all clear that they mean the same thing when the say voice, words, silence, and
language as do the linguists and anthropologists who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A second source of coherence within feminist discourse has been continuing argument about the
relative importance of difference between women and men, and among women as opposed to
dominance and pore, in our understanding gender relations. The contrast between approaches
focused on difference and those centered on dominance remains important in orienting debates,
and feminist scholars increasingly argue that we need to move beyond such static oppositions.
Since the familiar example. The silence of women in public life in the West is generally
deplored by feminists. It is taken to be a result and a symbol of passivity and powerlessness;
those who are denied speech, it is said, cannot influence the course of their lives or of history. In
a telling contrast, however, we also have ethnographic reports of the paradoxical power of
silence, especially in certain institutional settings. In religious confession, modern psychotherapy,
bureaucratic interviews, oral exams and place interrogation, the relations of coercion are
reversed: where self exposure is required, it is the silent listener who judges and who thereby
exerts power over the one who speaks. Silence in American household is often a weapon of
masculine power (Settle 1983). But silence can also be a strategic defense against the powerful, as
when Western Apache men use it to baffle, disconcert, and exclude white outsiders (Basso 1979).
And this does not exhaust the meaning of silence. For the

Fritz Lang M Film Techniques
The film M by Fritz Lang (1931) is a timeless masterpiece that not only reflects the fear and
distrust present in German society after WWI, but also uses sound in ways it had never been
used befor. M was made during a time of paranoia in Germany, set against the backdrop of a
rapidly deteriorating Weimar Republic. The country was in the midst of heightened poverty due
to unemployment and increasing criminal activity after the stock market crash of 1929. It was
also a time where psychopathic serial killers were at large in German cities. In the film, the panic
felt by the townspeople to try and catch the murderer, and the paranoia that it could be anyone
among them, is reflective of the fearful emotions felt by the German people during the early
1930s. The use of high camera angles show the vulnerability and innocence of the children, the
murderer s victims. The use of shadows and reflections show that the murderer has two sides, and
it is because of these two varying characters that he can walk amongst society unknown for what he
is. For example, when the townspeople see a man telling a little girl what time it is, they
immediately assume he must be the murderer. Because of their paranoia, they jump to conclusions,

These fears arose from the global recession due to the stock market crash in 1929, where
unemployment, poverty, and crime greatly increased, and from the rapid decline of their
government. M was also Fritz Lang s first sound picture, and he therefore had the opportunity to
use sound in ways that had not been done before. He used sound, and silence, to help shape the
mood and tone of the film, making the emotions and the message he was portraying that much
more effective. By doing so, Lang created a film that will remain as one of the greatest films of all

Hepatitis Essay
Health Promotion on Hepatitis Virus
My health promotion or prevention will take place in a college seminar at community college; I
chose this group of people because I realized many colleges make medical records mandatory for
only students in the health related courses and also freshmen living on campuses. I asked myself,
what about those other students who are doing other courses or major who may also be at risk. The
main purpose for viral hepatitis teaching is to inform the students of the importance or benefits
from vaccines to prevent hepatitis virus. This will take place in the school auditorium to get access
to internet and projector to present the information.
After this teaching, students will be able to learn the following:
The types of viral hepatitis
Causes of the types of hepatitis
Ways of preventing viral hepatitis
The leading cause of liver damage due to viral hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus represents a
major health problem in the United States. CDC estimates that approximately 3.2 million of
Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis C virus, with an estimate of 8,000 to 10,000
hepatitis C virus related deaths annually (CDC foundation).
Hepatitis can be defined as liver inflammation caused by viral infection or toxins like drugs or
alcohol (Myers, 2015). Viral hepatitis is caused by one of the five types of hepatitis viruses,
referred to as types A, B, C, D and E. Each of these types of hepatitis can be contracted in various

Animal Testing Is Bad Science
Animals very rarely serve as models for the human body. Many people are brought up with the idea
that animal experimentation is necessary to insure the safety of humans, but in reality, these
experiments are creating only harm to animals. Animals have done nothing to deserve this backlash,
and by educating the public on the true unsuccessfulness of animal testing, the ethical side is forced
out in the open. The argument Animal Testing is Bad Science by the People for The Ethical
Treatment of Animals(PETA), argues that ethics dictate the value of each life, and that no life is
overthrown by another. This well formulated argument effectively integrates ethos, logos, powerful
structure, and robust premises to persuade the audience.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All premises given are paired with explicit claims to express proposals such as, no experiment, no
matter how painful or trivial is prohibited and reactions to drugs vary enormously from species to
species (PETA, 2015). By following the line of logic, the claim is already known.
Ethos
Through the use of credible and reliable sources, PETA s argument builds validity. The author
recounts President Richard Nixon sign[ing] the Conquest of Cancer Act in 1971 (PETA, 2015) to
introduce that any money raised for cancer is not stopping hundreds of thousands dying from it
each year, and that animals contributed as test objects for these newfound drugs are not suddenly
going to cure cancer. Since an American president is mentioned, the audience will trust the
upcoming evidence. Furthermore, the author establishes ethos with well known acts and
dependable doctors. Referencing the 40 percent of all research funding from the U.S. National
Institute of Health and organizations like the American Board of Anesthesiologists [whom] even
require physicians to complete simulation training not animal laboratories (PETA 2015). The first
reference represents the billions of dollars swallowed by animal experimentation funds. Citing
information from the U.S. Institute of Health notes the continued spending, even with countless
failed experiments. Ethos is held by the author due to the credible sources incorporated within

Essay On Antiotemporal Swarms
In this section, we introduce the main contribution of this paper. We design a single database scan
efficient method to mine various kinds of spatiotemporal swarms using four kinds of pruning
methods which reduce the computational cost. Then, we discover some significant trajectory

concepts and introduce a detailed description of the proposed method.

These kinds of swarms mining are significant that is why we propose periodic swarms mining and
reduce the complexity and redundant swarms we use parsimonious periodic swarm mining. After
that, we motivated to find the similar groups of users and find the important locations depends on

The following two examples give an intuitive explanation of our method. Let, $min_{object}= 2$

Figure ref{fig3} shows the basic structure of the environment. There are 5 moving objects
$O_{db} = left{o_1, o_2, o_3, o_4, o_5right}$, 4 timestamps $T_{db} = left{t_1, t_2, t_3,
t_4right}$ and 4 locations $L_{db} = left{L_0, L_1, L_2, L_3right}$. It is clear to see that at
the location $L_0$ create short time swarm at timestamps $(t_1, t_2, t_3)$ and at location $L_2$
create short time swarm at timestamps $t_4$ though there are no common objects. On the other
hand, it shows that $o_3$ and $o_4$ travel together from time $t_1$ to $t_2$ at locations $L_0$.
According to the given threshold value we find the long time spatiotemporal swarm is $(left{o_3,

there are no super set. In this case, two timestamps $t_1$ and $t_2$ are consecutive.

The Old Testament, By King James Version Of The Bible
The concept of land in the Old Testament is of extreme importance and constantly mentioned
throughout the various books in the scripture. It is quite shocking the way we view land today
compared to the way that it is explained by God in the scripture. While man may have various
misconceptions about land, even about how land is portrayed in the Old Testament, it is God who
dictates to man regarding this subject. Three important facets of land that are portrayed in the Old
Testament are that land is an inheritance, land is to be shared with all of humanity, and land can be
both a gift and a cursedepending on the ability of the people to follow God s commandments. Often
times in the King James Version of the biblewe hear of the people of Israel conquering or
possessing the land. This can lead the reader astray in that it portrays the stories of the Old
Testament as a series of wars ordained by God in order for the people to inhabit the land. This
contrasting idea of inheritance rather than possession is evident throughout the Old Testament
beginning with the story of Adam. We see that Adam does nothing to conquer or possess the land,
but is rather given the land as an inheritance from God. It is purely a gift from God and has
nothing to do with man s doing. However, since this land belongs to God and he is the sole owner,
he is the one who determines the rules and laws of the land. This inheritance is dependent on the
ability of humanity to follow God s commandments as

attracts more public attention than the Hispanic people do due to their large numbers, their

Pseudo-Xenophon And The Athenian Democracy
Government is a form of political structure that rules over a group of specific people and while
stability is important, in most societies government is fluid in its form and changes over time. As
different forms of government take power, typically the laws will favor one demographic over
another. While the Athenian democracyfavored the masses, oligarchic sympathizers like Pseudo
Xenophon, displayed their discontent with it. In his negative critique of Athenian democracytitled
The Constitution of the Athenians, Pseudo Xenophon supports the oligarchic system over the
democratic one, yet still maintains a respect for the Athenian s democracy as he comments on its
longevity and stability. His commentary contrasts with the funeral oration that Pericles gave during

Pseudo Xenophon and Pericles appeal to the political ideals of their audience while at the same time

Greek Culture and Influence
The Ancient Greek Empire was an empire of great power and success. From the beginning of
democracy to the amazing architecture of the Parthenon, the Greeks had many achievements that

Ancient Greek culture and technological advancements continue to influence our lives in aspects of
government, philosophy, architecture, geometry, mythology, and sports.
Although democracy can be traced back to Ancient China and Mesopotamia, the modern form that
we follow today originated in Athens, Greece ( Democracy ). Democracy comes from the Greek
word demokratia , which means people power. At the time, when Athens was ruled under a

Having had some experience in creating sculptures and figures with a wide array of materials, I
find that it is interesting how emotions can be conveyed through inanimate, or possibly animate,
three dimensional components. In addition to the 3D medium of sculpture, I will also study
painting because it relies heavily on two dimensional motifs that elicit collective emotions. In
particular, I am intrigued by how certain shapes, images, or colors have came to be associated to
certain emotional responses and societal values; and perhaps I can expand on that interest by taking
courses in the visual studies of forms and meanings.
In order to apply my knowledge on quantitative and visual analysis and to see whether I enjoy
doing so, I will seek opportunities to work as a financial analyst or as a marketing manager. Using
the PennLink network, I wish to find internship positions as an undergraduate to gain hand on
experience under professional guidance and all the while refining my business etiquette.
This is my current plan for my intellectual curiosities. I doubt not that these specific courses of
interest may be subject to change; but my goal of attaining the skills, not so much the fixed
knowledge of a definite course, will remain within the parameter of my academic fields of concern.
Employing both classroom and firsthand learning, I wish to develop my set of diverse but

John Crowe Ransom
John Crowe Ransom s Bells for John Whiteside s Daughter is a classic example of a poem,
mourning a death. The title name suggest that the girl was no family member or relative of the
poet and was just the daughter of some John Whiteside suggesting that there was no close
relation of the poet and the girl. As we go through the poem for the first time it appears to us that
it s a poem about a girl s past activities who later dies but after several readings and contemplation
we come to know that the poet was emotionally attached to the girl, feeling her pain and her loss. It
is a 5 stanzapoem which moves us from her past to present, from Lightness to darkness . The first
stanza is about the reaction of the neighbours while the four stanzas... Show more content on

Ransom describes her as a tireless heart because of all the movements and speed , she has. The
metaphorical comparison of dropping the snow from goose feathers to the melting snow and then
joins the symbolism of death while the green grass symbolises life and also the sound effect.
Other sounds such as rod that made them rise is also an external force that can never wake the
girl up from her sleep like she used to wake up the geese from their noon apple dreams . The use of
her tireless heart is ironic as the girl has passed away. From the girl going after the geese (death)

Sonder is an infrequently used noun defined as the realization that each random passerby is
living a life as vivid and complex as your own populated with their own ambitions, friends,
routines, worries and inherited craziness . It s a difficult and complicated term to use, as most
people have differing interpretations of it; in my opinion, when you gain sonder you gain
perspective and empathy into the lives of everyone around you, and learn what makes them the
way they are. Everyone has this moment of realization at some point in their life, but few people
ever give sonder any real thought beyond that moment. However, some authors embrace the idea

The strongest example of this occurs when she writes a note to a police officer, successfully

Of particular interest, and a perfect piece to fit the genre, with two holes on both sides, and
grommets encircling the cutouts, is a white shift dress. While this dress is not what one would call
wearable, it certainly makes a statement, and one that CourrГЁges made well. Sensible women
probably would not have worn this dressdue to the cutout placement unless they were in favor of
foregoing their undergarments. CourrГЁges utilized vinyl, pvc, leather, and an aggregate of
burnished materials in order to create his vision which supplemented his modern, futuristic vision.
His cloth of choice was gabardine, wool, and tweed. His background in architecture lent to his
attention to detail and his dedication to construction. While AndrГ© CourrГЁges was gaining the
praises of the masses, other designers were forging ahead on the same path. Paco Rabanne also
gained his fashionfooting at Balenciaga, however he also worked for Dior and Givenchy.
Perhaps fashion was in his blood considering his mother was previously the lead seamstress at
Balenciaga. With his first manifesto collection, 12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary
Materials, it was obvious that Rabanne was not an conventional designer, nor was he quick to
fade into the background and dissolve into fashion history. In a world where men had dominance
and women were contending for even a meager slice of that, Rabanne was a savior of sorts. He
once stated that, The woman of tomorrow will be efficacious, seductive and

Henrietta Lacks Legacy
A legacy is a something which is passed from older generations to younger generations.
Something to be remembered. One example can be Henrietta Lacks cells who were known as the
first human immortal cells. They exist to this day, thus having their own legacy. Henrietta Lacks,
however, was barely credited for such cells. Which is the reason why she was long forgotten until
this book was published. One participant who helped bring up a forgotten legacy is the author of
the book, Rebecca Skloot. Nonetheless, I chose to write about Dr. George Gey, whom I think
started the process of this legacy. Dr. George Gey was a doctor who diagnosed Henrietta Lackswith
cervical cancer. He then took hold of some cells from the tissue of her tumor on her cervix,

Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer
Glory. It is an honor that all men, even if they are not aware, strive for. The definition of glory is
different for everyone. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could
mean taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not
defined as a multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his
upright inner voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer,
Tillman rejects a successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the
September 11, 2011, terrorist attack. I never thought a book with so much war and politics could be
so heart wrenching. Although I did not like the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a
great deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the
book is on page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed
with the ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them,
and become more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain
in a comic book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down,
he always came back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been
better. Also, Krakauer s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused.
Nevertheless, not all is bad about Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find
that he included actual entries from Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and
family. In doing so, Krakauer made me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his
loved ones. This made a powerful impact on the book and reader.
Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is
more significant. I will admit that I am not an avid reader. For a book to successfully make me feel
heartbroken says a lot. I had never heard of the story of Pat Tillman, so

DALLAS, TEXAS. Dallas is on the Trinity River in the center of Dallas County in North
Central Texas. It is crossed by Interstate highways 20, 30, 35, and 45. The city was founded by
John Neely Bryan, who settled on the east bank of the Trinity near a natural ford in November
1841. Bryan had picked the best spot for a trading post to serve the population migrating into the
region. The ford, at the intersection of two major Indian traces, provided the only good crossing
point for miles. Two highways proposed by the Republic of Texassoon converged nearby. Unknown
to Bryan, however, he had settled on land granted by the republic to the Texan Land and

With the breakup of the nearby La RГ©union colony in the late 1850s, skilled European craftsmen
and artists moved into Dallas, including brickmakers, cabinetmakers, tailors, milliners, brewers,
and musicians. By 1860 the population was 678, including ninety seven African Americans as
well as French, Belgians, Swiss, and Germans. On July 8, 1860, a fire originating in the W. W.
Peak Brothers Drugstore spread to the other buildings on the square and destroyed most of the
businesses. Suspicion fell on slaves and Northern abolitionists; three slaves were hanged, and
two Iowa preachers were whipped and run out of town. In 1861 Dallas voters voted 741 to 237
to secede from the Union. Dallas was selected as one of eleven quartermaster and commissary
posts in Texas for the Trans Mississippi Army of the Confederacy. After the war, freed slaves
flocked to Dallas in search of jobs and settled in freedmen s towns on the periphery of the city. By
1870 the population was about 3,000.
The key to economic expansion had always been better transportation in and out of the region.
Early attempts to navigate the Trinity River had proved impractical. Dallas businessmen turned
their attention to securing rail service and succeeded in attracting the Houston and Texas Central in
1872 and the Texas and Pacific in 1873, making Dallas one of the first rail crossroads

Gender And Gender Roles In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The term gender refers to our cultural programing as feminine or masculine, which are
categories created by society rather than by nature. Gender roles define the appropriate social
and behavioral norms adopted by men and women in a social setting. Gender roles reinforce the
notion that housework is women s work and mechanical/technical jobs are men s work. George
Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, is considered one of the most creative writers of her time. At the
height of her career, Eliot was also generally regarded as the greatest living English novelist.
George Eliot s sixth novel, Middlemarch, depicts strong characters and the unconventional gender
roles of men and women and their marriages during the 19th century.
In 19th century England there was a great deal of social change and disorder. During this time
period, societal norms were being questioned as many people began calling for equality. In turn,
women s rights become a major issue in England. Before this call for gender equality, women had
been expected to marry men of equal social standing. Men were considered the heads of the
household providing for their families while women were expected to fulfill three main roles:
obeying and satisfying one s husband, keeping one s children physically and morally sound, and
maintaining the household. Author of Gender Politics and Women s Rights, Schor M. Hilary,
wrote during the 19th century, women were expected to center their lives on home and family and

Ironing out carbon
Ironing out Carbon Dioxide
Carbon Dioxide plays a key role in the atmosphere. This gas has properties that allow it to sustain
and hold in heat, which in turn warms the planet (EIA, 2004). Carbon, the primary component of
carbon dioxide; is also the essential molecule for life and is the most basic building block found in
all organic compounds. Human activities been blamed for the disruption of the earth s natural
carbon cycles and according to some studies, carbon is being added to the atmosphere faster than
the natural processes that sequestrate it. The massive carbon sinks that naturally regulated and
fixated excess carbon dioxide have been destroyed as humans have deforested ancient forests for the

One mans theory: A solution?
In 1990 John Martin an Oceanographer presented the idea that phytoplankton are responsible for
almost half of the photosynthesis that occurs on the earth.(Dopyra, 1996) Photosynthesis is an
important part of the carbon cycle, fixating carbon from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen as a
byproduct of this process. According to Martin s theory, growth is limited by the availability of iron
and if the oceans could be made more iron rich, the massive blooms of phytoplankton could fixate
massive amounts of carbon dioxide without harm to the environment.
Expectations ran high, and for over 10 years scientists raced to plan and execute experiments to
see if his theory would provide a solution for the damage that has been done to our planet through
mankind s industrialization efforts. Thousands of papers were submitted and published and
experiments were carried out to determine if seeding the ocean with iron was a simple solution to a
complex problem.
Experiments:
The first large scale iron fertilization project was carried out in October 1993 and named Ironex I.
The experiment was carried out 250 miles southwest of the

Utilitarianism And Pleasure
In video 2, Sandel discuss the issue of whether there are values to everything, some believe that
not everything have a price while some believe that there has to be a value for everything in order
for people to decide which lead to more happiness. Then on part 2 he further discusses that whether
there are distinction between higher pleasure and lower pleasure? This issue started with the
discussion of utilitarianismwho was founded by Jeremy Bentham. Jeremy Bentham believe that the
greatest good is for an individual or a politician is to maximize the community s happiness,
therefore before making policy, law or even saying what is just or not, the individual and politician
should consider comparing the cost and benefit to maximize happiness.... Show more content on

Based on Jeremy Bentham, he believe that we can measure pleasure, The magnitude of a pleasure
is the duration multiplied by the intensity of the pleasure. (Archie, 1). Therefore the highest
pleasure is simply just pleasure that give you the strongest intensity and longest duration. Bentham
also said in one of his famous quote quantity of pleasure being equal, pushpin is as good as poetry.
In my opinion what Bentham is trying to say is that whatever things we choose to do is the higher
pleasure, quality doesn t matter, but the quantity is important. However, John Stuart Mill disagree
with Bentham. He believe that quality of pleasure is important Mill himself presents the claim
that mental pleasures are better than physical to be because humans prefer to exist in a way that
engages their higher faculties (Mill 56). We are unwilling to sink low due to our dignity as
humans (Mill 57). We are not swine, to be satisfied with the pleasure of pigs. (Bhardwaj, 5). Mill
believe that reading a book is higher pleasure than playing video games and to know that, human
need education. But, he also noted that sometimes people chooses lower pleasure over the
higher pleasure but the fact is, deep down in their mind the other choices are still a higher
pleasure. In my opinion, I believe in Jeremy Bentham s way of measuring pleasure, because I
believe that whatever we chooses to do is the one with a higher pleasure. For example, reading
Shakespeare or sitting at home playing video games, many people would choose to play video
game rather than Shakespeare because most people would feel that video give out most pleasure
but Shakespeare would give people a headache rather than

  • 2. The Movies That Rose From The Grave By Max Brooks In the modern movie genre, horror movies accounts for very great proportion of the number of followers. Relevantly, the zombie film genre has been developed into a dominant part of mainstream horror, replacing the previous monster such as vampires and werewolves. In Max Brooks s essay The Movies That Rose From the Grave , he offers his opinion that throughout the process of zombie filmtransformation, it increasingly captivates viewers while gradually generates the modern horror. Brooks s essay should be an appropriate inclusion of a college textbook which explains the phenomenon of the undead explosion in various kinds of media, proving to the audiences with enthusiasm, interest, credibility and specific examples that zombie culture is resurrecting a formerly obsolete genre. Reading through the whole essay, there are many appealing strategies found in order to strengthen the essay academically. Brooks attracts the audience with a pathos style strategy, giving specific movie examples to straighten up the essay. The movie Night of the Living Deadresonates the viewers with an image of a flesh eating and harmful zombie figure instead of a harmless voodoo created zombie, which makes the notion of zombies transformed into a horrifying figure, provoking the sense of fear of audience with emotional appeal. The revolutionary creation of zombie film was led by George A. Romero, the father of the entirely new horror genre. In his work, zombies are characterized as a form of undead ... • 3. The Link Between Poverty And Diabetes According to the American Diabetes Association, more Americans die each year from diabetes than from AIDS and breast cancer combined. As a result, researchers have extensively studied the causes, treatments, and interventions for diabetes. Despite efforts to ameliorate its effects, diabetes remains a prevalent danger in society. In 2014, 7% of U.S. adults were living with diagnosed diabetes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). In Louisiana that number was even higher 10.4% of adults have been diagnosed with diabetes. Breaking it down by age group, however, in Louisiana 3% of people aged 18 and 44 have been diagnosed, and 15.2% of people 45 64. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015a). Several studies have predicted future rates of diabetes both in the United Statesand worldwide nearly all of these studies reached a similar conclusion: rates of diabetes will continue to rise (Boyle et al., 2001). Many studies have examined the link between poverty and diabetes. The CDC (2015b) have identified the following as primary factors that lead an individual to have an increased risk of developing diabetes: being overweight or obese; having a parent or sibling with diabetes; having African American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic American /Latino heritage; having a history of gestational diabetes; having blood pressure measuring 140/90 or higher; abnormal cholesterol; and being physically inactive. • 4. Analysis Of I Am Sam The movie, I Am Sam is about a single father who has a developmental disability and who has an IQ of a seven year old who wants and tries to take care of his baby daughter. He had his daughter, Lucy with a homeless woman and she left Sam just after she had her. There are some complications and then he loses her through court because people convince him he could not give her the love she deserved. The article online and the movie were the same. In many people s opinion, books are better than the movies but I feel the opposite way. I like to watch the movies and see all the emotion and drama visually and not comprehensively. The lesson or purpose of the movie is to have people learn or to teach people that all people need is love. It is also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Audiologists mainly work with individuals who have balance, hearing, or other ear problems. They try and diagnose what the individual has and both professions will have the individuals have appointments with them to see if they can help them out in any way they can. Personally, I loved the movie, I Am Sam. I loved how it portrayed someone who has developmental disabilities and what some issues they run into in their life. I liked how dramatic and emotional the movie was. When a movie is emotional like this one, it makes the audience pay attention more and wonder what happens in the end so it makes them finish the movie or book. I liked how it showed the problems or issues Sam had trying to take care of Lucy. It broke my heart when she said, she did not want to read the word because her dad could not read it. She did not want to be smarter than her father which I thought was amazing. The director did a fantastic job writing this film. All of the points he wanted to get to the audience, I feel did. The actor, Sean Paul, did a wonderful job impersonating someone with a developmental disability. The director s goal was to have people that were his targeted audience, try and think about what they take for granted and show that people need love and support just as much as anyone else that is important to them. People never know what other stories other people have and are going through. It is always nice to be kind and to be a supportive human being. There were a couple parts I ... • 5. Characterization Of Ramayana Ram Every one has a Ram within. What is Ram? A person, a hero, a god or just a concept? Ram could have traits of what we define as Ravana and Sita. Ramayana is a myth that shows different traits as different characters. People have translated it in their own ways most commonly Ram to be the hero, the braveness; Sita to be a victim, the weak one; Ravana to be the villain, the bad side. Everyone could have all of these traits together. It is how you behave differently to each person in your life. And how you react in every situation. This paper is trying to explore the different sides to a character through Ramayana. This paper takes the approach where characters of Ramayana are concepts. It also explores Characters in different relations; as a son, a husband, a brother, and a king. Concepts meaning traits found in the person. It could be something Ram stand for. Did the other characters have no role at all? Were they not important enough or worthy enough? Over the years there have been different telling of Ramayana. The word telling is used instead of version because version is used when you have an original but nobody knows where did the Ramayana originate. And as times changed people have adapted the Ramayana according to their surroundings. The story may be the
same in every Ramayana, but the discourse may be vastly different. Even the structure and sequence of events may be the same, but the style, details,
tone, and texture may be vastly different. Devdutt Patnaik as well has a slightly different take on Ramayana as well. He does not portray Ram to be a hero, Sita to be a Victim and Ravana to be a villain but Ram is a god, Sita is the goddess, Ravana is just a Brahmin who fails to expand his mind. • 8. Why China Has A Growing Middle Class Due to recent advances in technology, communication, and transportation, companies are no longer confined to just one country to market and sell their products in. This has presented many companies with global opportunities. China, one of the fastest growing countries in regard to economy and population, presents a very appealing market to businesses looking to expand. China has a growing middle class that no longer has to be as price sensitive (Barton, Chen, Yin, 2013), and this is good news for American companies that have a strong brand name and do not necessarily rely on a cheap price to sell their goods. China is also experiencing an increased demand for biscuits and crackers, but many people are also becoming more health conscious ( Entering the Biscuit Market in China: There is Still a Chance, 2014). These presents Nabisco, a strong brand name in the United States, the perfect opportunity to expand their graham crackerline into China. Nabisco s graham crackers do not have too much variety in the United States. Its Honey Maid line consists of honey, vanilla, chocolate, and cinnamon flavors. Nabisco also produces Honey Maid Dippers and Teddy Grahams that are smaller than the original graham crackers and are perfect for smaller hands. The graham crackers are sold by box sizes ( Varieties, 2016). These can be purchased at almost every grocery store and are typically found in the cookie and cracker aisle. He will eventually find a secretive way to fulfill his needs. In the same manner Jekyll finds Hyde as a solution to satisfy his simple need like drinking. His every act and thought centered on self; drinking pleasure with bestial avidity from any degree of torture to another ().As the quote demonstrates Hyde enjoys drinking, which he cannot do as Dr. Jekyll, living in an oppressed Victorian society. The small and harmful temptation like drinking leads to more serious offences. As this boosts, Jekyll s confidence, he ends up indulging into violent acts, With ape like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot, and hailing down a storm of blows (). The simile in this quote delineates Jekyll s unexpressed desire that erupts through Hyde. His small desires manifests into bigger crimes. Stevenson uses this theory to showcase temptation the evil cause of problems in mankind. Victorian England is a major backdrop in Dr. Jekyll s experiment to have double personalities. The fog still slept on the wing above the drowned city (Pg. 22).The personification and imagery in this quote suggests Hyde s sinful indulgence in the somber city. Biological sex is often thought to determine one s gender identity. Though sex and gender align for the mass of our population, there is a minority group that does not feel that they belong to either male or female genders. To understand gender fluidity, one must recognize that sometimes a person s gender and sex do not align. A person may not feel that their biological sex reflects who they are, they may feel uncomfortable with the expectations and roles placed on them due to their sex. These gender roles are created by social expectations of our western society. Gender roles are merely social constructs, and if one does not want to conform to societies conjectures placed on them due to their biological sex, they should have the freedom to non conform. We must protest and express our discontent with society in order to make a change. Martin Luther King Jr. carefully and patiently explained his philosophy and what he wanted from the masses. He wanted support and for everyone to understand his plan and what he wanted to get out of the protests. Why is that though? Before I began this assignment, my hypothesis was that people stay longer in Starbucks because the layout increases customer interactions. On Saturday, February 11, 2017 between 9:00 AM and 9:45 AM, I completed my observation at the Starbucks CafГ© in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Starbucks coffee shop is located on Tilghman Street in Allentown, PA is in a small shopping center that includes an AT T store and Five Guys. This group of customers knew what they wanted, placed their order and paced within the coffee shop until they heard their name called by the barista. Once called, they quickly collected their order and left without any fanfare. The second group of customers, waited patiently in front of the coffee making area while their order was prepared for them. One customer began eating the food he had ordered, while most of them were conversing with other patrons about the weather and recent snowstorm. However, once their order was ready and their name called they picked up their order and left, not before wishing the other patrons a good day . The final group of customers I observed was the find a seat. This group could be seen right away. As this group entered the Starbucks, they checked to see if seats were available, and either reserved it prior to placing their order with a bag or article of clothing. If it was a party of two, someone from their party took a seat to reserve a place for them. This group was very diverse. Though One Friday Morning by Langston Hughes has great symbolism, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is the best short story to keep in the 1940s unit, because there is a lot of imagery, the mood is very clear, and the suspense hooks the reader. The first reason why The Lottery is the best short story to keep in the 1940s unit is because it has a very clear mood. • 18. The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science, religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death, there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons, the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and theologically, and scientifically. Analysis Of A Bronx Morning And Manhatta Bethany Blake Professor Roberts Progression 3 Final Draft Resubmission Although they may seem very different on the surface, the two city symphonies, A Bronx Morning and Manhatta converse very well with each other. They both manage to capture and emphasize the aspects of New York Citythat make up what they love about or what they see the city as. What the filmmaker wants to show their audience members, and how they wish to portray the city they are filming is what dictates what he or she chooses to focus in on, or graze over in their filmmaking process. Both A Bronx Morning and Manhatta capture the city of Manhattan in completely different yet similar ways, and this all has to do with the film makers choice of how to organize and present their material to their audience, yet they both manage to mystify New York City. This can be related to what Michael de Certeau speaks about in his essay, Walking in the City . A person, through walking and living in one place, writes their own story or poem; or draws their own picture. A person s experience living in a particular place during a particular time, can be completely different from a person born at the exact same time and who lives in the exact same place as they do its all about perspective and life experience. A second source of coherence within feminist discourse has been continuing argument about the relative importance of difference between women and men, and among women as opposed to dominance and pore, in our understanding gender relations. The contrast between approaches focused on difference and those centered on dominance remains important in orienting debates, and feminist scholars increasingly argue that we need to move beyond such static oppositions. Since the familiar example. The silence of women in public life in the West is generally deplored by feminists. It is taken to be a result and a symbol of passivity and powerlessness; those who are denied speech, it is said, cannot influence the course of their lives or of history. In a telling contrast, however, we also have ethnographic reports of the paradoxical power of silence, especially in certain institutional settings. In religious confession, modern psychotherapy, bureaucratic interviews, oral exams and place interrogation, the relations of coercion are reversed: where self exposure is required, it is the silent listener who judges and who thereby exerts power over the one who speaks. Silence in American household is often a weapon of masculine power (Settle 1983). But silence can also be a strategic defense against the powerful, as when Western Apache men use it to baffle, disconcert, and exclude white outsiders (Basso 1979). Fritz Lang M Film Techniques The film M by Fritz Lang (1931) is a timeless masterpiece that not only reflects the fear and distrust present in German society after WWI, but also uses sound in ways it had never been used befor. M was made during a time of paranoia in Germany, set against the backdrop of a rapidly deteriorating Weimar Republic. The country was in the midst of heightened poverty due to unemployment and increasing criminal activity after the stock market crash of 1929. It was also a time where psychopathic serial killers were at large in German cities. In the film, the panic felt by the townspeople to try and catch the murderer, and the paranoia that it could be anyone among them, is reflective of the fearful emotions felt by the German people during the early 1930s. The use of high camera angles show the vulnerability and innocence of the children, the murderer s victims. The use of shadows and reflections show that the murderer has two sides, and it is because of these two varying characters that he can walk amongst society unknown for what he is. For example, when the townspeople see a man telling a little girl what time it is, they immediately assume he must be the murderer. Because of their paranoia, they jump to conclusions, ... • 28. The Old Testament, By King James Version Of The Bible The concept of land in the Old Testament is of extreme importance and constantly mentioned throughout the various books in the scripture. It is quite shocking the way we view land today compared to the way that it is explained by God in the scripture. While man may have various misconceptions about land, even about how land is portrayed in the Old Testament, it is God who dictates to man regarding this subject. Three important facets of land that are portrayed in the Old Testament are that land is an inheritance, land is to be shared with all of humanity, and land can be both a gift and a cursedepending on the ability of the people to follow God s commandments. Often times in the King James Version of the biblewe hear of the people of Israel conquering or possessing the land. This can lead the reader astray in that it portrays the stories of the Old Testament as a series of wars ordained by God in order for the people to inhabit the land. This contrasting idea of inheritance rather than possession is evident throughout the Old Testament beginning with the story of Adam. We see that Adam does nothing to conquer or possess the land, but is rather given the land as an inheritance from God. It is purely a gift from God and has nothing to do with man s doing. However, since this land belongs to God and he is the sole owner, he is the one who determines the rules and laws of the land. Gender roles define the appropriate social and behavioral norms adopted by men and women in a social setting. George Eliot, born Mary Ann Evans, is considered one of the most creative writers of her time. At the height of her career, Eliot was also generally regarded as the greatest living English novelist. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on Jeremy Bentham, he believe that we can measure pleasure, The magnitude of a pleasure is the duration multiplied by the intensity of the pleasure. (Archie, 1). Therefore the highest pleasure is simply just pleasure that give you the strongest intensity and longest duration. Bentham also said in one of his famous quote quantity of pleasure being equal, pushpin is as good as poetry. In my opinion what Bentham is trying to say is that whatever things we choose to do is the higher pleasure, quality doesn t matter, but the quantity is important. However, John Stuart Mill disagree with Bentham. He believe that quality of pleasure is important Mill himself presents the claim that mental pleasures are better than physical to be because humans prefer to exist in a way that engages their higher faculties (Mill 56). We are unwilling to sink low due to our dignity as humans (Mill 57). We are not swine, to be satisfied with the pleasure of pigs. (Bhardwaj, 5). Mill believe that reading a book is higher pleasure than playing video games and to know that, human need education. But, he also noted that sometimes people chooses lower pleasure over the higher pleasure but the fact is, deep down in their mind the other choices are still a higher pleasure. In my opinion, I believe in Jeremy Bentham s way of measuring pleasure, because I believe that whatever we chooses to do is the one with a higher pleasure. For example, reading Shakespeare or sitting at home playing video games, many people would choose to play video game rather than Shakespeare because most people would feel that video give out most pleasure but Shakespeare would give people a headache rather than ... • 51. Jingyan Alternate Ending Jingyan was going to die. The wicked, suffocating presence churning around him felt like a cyclone made of microscopic blades and the buzzing noise in his head grew alarmingly louder. He banged his fists against the slimy stone walls until his skin began to scrape off, each strike more urgent than the last. Jingyan. The voice, detached and ghostly, reverberated until it became an echo that petrified him on a whole new level. Jingyan tried to lift his arms, but his body wouldn t move now. The walls, pulsing in cadence to his heartbeat, began to close in. A heavy and slick weight settled on his chest and things slithered through his hair repetitively. A distance voice murmured words that Jingyan couldn t make sense of. Just when he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Liang war prisoners, said Jingyan. The prisoners Xia Jiang showed him during his week in Hua, decayed wraiths of men who used to be soldiers and warriors. A few dozen emancipated ex soldiers couldn t be enough to cause this level of chaos within the palace, Jingyan thought. His eyes narrowed at Mei Changsu, Along with your men. The set up wasn t fair. With superior martial art skills, most, if not all of Mei Changsu s men could retreat into safety before capture. As if he d read Jingyan s mind, Mei Changsu said, Your soldiers will die fighting against Hua one last time, in exchange for their prince s safety and North Qi s successful invasion. You plan to take me away, said Jingyan. If Mei Changsu d planned to kill him, he would ve been dead before he reached for his sword. Mei Changsu had ordered all the servants to be slaughtered so no one could witness his escape. Where? From underneath his cloak, Mei Changsu pulled out a simple outfit, similar to those worn by peasants on the city street. The neckline of a tunic was visible over what Jingyan presumed to be a pair of pants, tied together with a simple cloth belt. Mei Changsu nodded at Jingyan s robes, ... • 53. Helping Adult Hypertenstive Patients with Difficulty... Aim: The aim of this work was preparing once daily fast disintegrating tablets to handle easily for adult hypertensive patients who have difficulty in swallowing. Methods: Solid dispersions bisoprolol hemifumarate (SD BH) was prepared by using EC and HPMC in different ratios. A 3* 22 full factorial design was used to investigate the main formulation parameters (different fillers, binder differ in the molecular weight and different coat type). SD BH were prepared and characterized by DSC. Disintegration time, wetting properties, friability, and hardness of FDTs were evaluated. Percent drug dissolved was determined. Furthermore, the bioavailability was compared with commercial market product. The results: The mean production yield of BH SDs was 93.50 В± 0.39 %. The tablets demonstrated a hardness of 2 5 N, friability 0.04 0.56% and disintegration time of 67 В± 1.54 sec. The formulations were subjected to accelerated stability study as per ICH guidelines and were found to be stable after three weeks at 60 В°C and 75 % R.H. Conclusion: Based on The present study; the suggested FDTs (Ta1) which delivers a solid dispersions 10 mg BH using HPMC and EC in 1:1 ratio showed an extended effect in lowering the blood pressure and decrease the disintegrating time lesser than commercial oral tablets. Key words: bisoprolol hemifumarate, fast disintegrating tablets, bioavailability study, extended release, solid dispersion. 1.Introduction Hypertension is still one of the most ...
