Socrates, A Classical Greek Philosopher
Socrates, born in 470 BC in Athens, Greece, was a classical Greek philosopher and is believed to
be one of the founders of Western philosophy. He lived a good 71 years until his death in 399 BC.
Although Socrates never wrote anything down, we still know quite a bit about him. Everything we
know, we have learned through the writings of one of Socratesstudents, Plato. One very famous
phenomenon we learn from Socrates is Socrates Socratic method. It essentially laid down the
building blocks of Western logic and philosophy and it consists of five steps. The first step is to
make a statement; the second is to then look for exceptions. The third step comes in two parts. It
states that if an exception is found then the statement is either imprecise, or flat out false.
Further comes step four that says that if the statement is imprecise then to revise it. Finally step
five is to repeat. A lot of people were not Socrates biggest fans, which leads us to the charges and
trial of Socrates. He was put into trial for being impious and corrupting the youth. Although some
may argue that Socrates was an evil, unjust person that led a bad life and was a troublemaker, I
affirm that Socrates led a good and honorable life due to his great wisdom in admitting that he
knows nothing. His awareness of his own ignorance makes him an admirable person. To begin
with, Socrates was quite the character. His soul life mission consisted of using philosophy to
achieve practical results for the

Psychoanalytic Analysis of Looking for Alaska Essay

PSYCHOANALYTIC ANALYSIS OF LOOKING FOR ALASKA
It seems natural to think about novels in terms of dreams or psychoanalytical realities. Like dreams,
novels are fictions, inventions of the mind that, though based on reality, are by definition not
exactly and literally true. Conversely, dreams may have some truth to tell but like novels their truth
must be interpreted before it can be grasped. Such is the case with John Green s young adult novel,
Looking for Alaska. It holds many truths that are relevant to young adults, but to extract those
lessons, one must first view the plot and characters through a lens of psychoanalytical theory. ...

He is a schemer and a prankster drawing on his strength from having friends around him. He is
only a colonel in that he has the ability to strategize and rank his troops for the purpose of prank
deployment.
And finally, the beautifully damaged, larger than life Alaska Young. As her name implies, she is so
young to have the problems that she has and meet such an untimely demise. She is also aptly
named Alaska because she is (or wishes to be) an unknown, mysterious, possibly dangerous frontier
to her schoolmates. We learn well into the novel, that Alaska experienced a horrible tragedy when
she was little: her mother had an aneurysm and died in front of her. Alaska, in shock, was unable to
take any action to save her mother and has since tried to control situations with her own volatility
and unpredictability. She manipulates those around her by alternating between being a
misunderstood victim and an instigator of mischief.
As an adult reader who has crossed over to the reality of life, reading about these characters can
be a transparent, futile exercise because as adults looking back at youth we have the experience
to know where these characters are headed before they even start their journey. However, for
young adults who are still in the throes of existential angst this is a powerful novel that handles
teenage rites of passage and coming of age issues such as loyalty, friendship, belonging, and even
death and loss very well.

The Reality Of Reality Tv Essay
It is a given that the culture we consume shapes who we are, more specifically what we view on
television shapes the content of our minds. It is also generally known that children can be easily
influenced by what they see on television. Reality TV is no exception to this rule. It may appear
that reality TV is a benign phenomenon but it is in fact a virus that has quickly diseased our
society. More specifically, it attracts girls most mercilessly by affecting them negatively as to
how they perceive themselves. Indeed, girls who watch reality TV learn that deceit and meanness
is normal behaviour in order to achieve success, begin to self objectify more and have a higher
expectation of more drama and conflict in their lives as well. The reality of reality TV is that it
negatively portrays females. Is there no end to the onslaught on the female gender by television?
According to Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the Parents
Television Council, Because girls are seeing people behaving in a negative way on reality
programs, they tend to accept that that s normative behaviour. (Semigram, 1) That may be fine
when the behaviour is positive but what of the behaviour viewed on reality TV? Watching a
heavy diet of meanness and lying in order for females to get ahead has a horrible impact on girls.
Does reality TV really portray meanness and deceit? Yes, it unquestionably does! In fact, an
extensive survey done by The Girl Scouts of the USA

Developing A Sustainable Marketing And Human Resource...
Description of the Project Proposal
The project requirement as I understand is to develop a sustainable marketing and human resource
structure for a well established Childcare centre that caters for local families with pre school aged
children in the surrounding suburbs and Swinburne University community.
This structure must have a low financial budget and also cater for further expansion in the future.
The client has indicated that they are actively seeking to advertise and raise the view of
Kindergarten with the aim of filling both 3 Year old and 4 year old programs to their capacity.
Therefore it is very important that the planned structure can fulfil the requirements of the clients. It
is also mentioned that the client is very cautious of a structure that all new individuals can follow
even if they don t have the right skills and experience needed to finish the task. This is proposed in
the form of the Annual Marketing Plan, which will be conducted by volunteers who constantly keep
changing every year. Therefore this designed structure must cater for the client with this particular
need. Furthermore, the client has indicated an interest in the professional development of their staff
and would like to conduct programs that would help the staff be motivated in the work they
perform. Although this is not yet confirmed as a definite trial, the designed structure should be able
to achieve this possibility.

Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer s Day By Anne Bradstreet...
Love is such a strong word that we sometimes use it to the best of our ability. While reading I
was very intrigued by two poems that I feel was wrote more so on the love side and trying to show
or I would say express themselves through the poem. The poems Shall I compare thee to a summer
s day? by William Shakespeareand To My Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet are two
poems I feel is trying to express love, but in two totally different ways. The poems are bringing
meaning to the word love and showing that it doesn t have to be used only to show a connection
between two different people, but it can be used in other ways as well.
In the poem Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? By William Shakespeare, the author is
showing his love through nature. He is actually comparing every little thing he feels is right
about his companion to something in nature. He says, Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
From this the author is saying one s love is more lovable and is hotter than summer. He then
goes on to say, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May. He is saying that before summer
comes its spring time and the windy weather is knocking all of the buds off the flowers and
making them new, so he is she is more better now that they have gone through a rough time before.
After that he says, And summer s lease hath all too short a date. He means by this that the summer
time goes by very fast, so they have to savor every moment together during this time while

Mcteigue Essay
Guy Fawkes, and Evey. This is a representation of McTeigue presenting a realist style to the
audience through elements and characters within the film through the effective usage of colors.
The usage of costume (with regards to the mis en scene) played an integral role in McTeigue
presenting a realist style to the audience. In the sequence we are presented where Evey works,
we are exposed to an individual who is dressed differently than anyone else. This symbolizes
someone who is different from everyone else (Evey is the only individual wearing a non business
casual outfit; wears a blouse) with regards to her position in her workplace. This eventually
becomes true as Evey s life completely changes when V visits her workplace and makes a broadcast.

The long shots and point of view shots were used so that we can have an idea as to who such
characters are and how their lives are. For example, in the sequence where the ruler of England
is introduced to the audience, the usage of long shots allows us to understand these particular
characters and what they do. In addition, we are able to deduct that these five individuals are to
be considered as top aides to the ruler of England. Even though they possess a sense of authority,
they are still below/under the ruler of England. This was demonstrated through the camera s
angling. In this same sequence the camera angle is at a low angle. This low angle is used to
demonstrate the amount of power the ruler has over these individuals and over the country. The
usage of closeups plays a role in the depiction as to how much power the ruler possesses. Close
ups, when effectively used, can portray power. Because of this sequences frequent use of point of
view shots, the audience is able to relate and to feel the same way the five characters feel during
this sequence (feeling inferior to the ruler of England). This is a representation of McTeigue
effectively using framing to depict a realist style towards viewers by allowing such viewers to
relate to the character(s) and elements within the

How Swaziland Is A Developing Country
Swaziland is a developing country that is facing many problems which can only be solved through
political reform. Swaziland is located in south eastern Africa and is the last country in Africa to still
have an absolute monarchy. This country has a large health problem, including the highest rate of
HIV in Africa. Swazilands monarch, King Mswati lll, holds all of the power. Swaziland s
economy is stagnant and its economic growth is steadily declining While the king lives a life of
luxury, over fifty percent of the population of Swaziland live in poverty. Swaziland is also a
landlocked countrylocated in an area in which tropical storms are not uncommon. Swaziland is
continuing to struggle as a developing country for these reasons.
Swaziland has a history of struggle and hardships. According to the US Department of State
(2014), September 6, 1968 marked the day that Swaziland finally gained it s independence from
Great Britain. Independence, however, would not mean freedom for the people of Swaziland.
Five years later, King Sobhuza dissolved the parliament of Swaziland on April 12, 1973. This
resulted in King Sobhuza absorbing all political power in the country, which he used to ban all
other political parties from operating. This would pave the way for the future monarchs of
Swaziland to maintain absolute power. One notable party, the Swaziland Democratic Party, was
established on September 24, 2011. They have failed to consolidate any significant political power

The Economic Significance Of Pacific Island Tuna
This paper discusses the economic significance of tuna fishing, and related industries to island
nations in the Southwest Pacific, including the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia,
Kiribati, Marshall, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papa New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu,
and Vanuatu. Due to the limited number of exploitable resources available to these island nations,
tuna is an essential renewable resource, and, represents a multi billion dollar a year global industry
for these communities. The Pacific Islandscontribute a third of the world s annual tuna supply,
providing direct and indirect employment (roughly 7 percent of national employment), as well as
being a valuable source of government revenue. The main topics covered in this discussion paper
are: global significance of Pacific Island tuna, the value of tuna to the region, employment, exports
and benefits, and fishery related industries.
Global Significance:
In recent years, the annual global supply of tuna (albacore, bigeye, skipjack, and yellowfin) has
averaged roughly 3.6 million metric tons (Joseph, 2000), with the Pacific Islands contributing
1million metric tons, nearly a third of global supply. Additionally, the Pacific Island nations supply
60 percent of canned tuna, and 30 percent of tuna bound for the Japanese sashimi market. In
comparison to the other three major tuna fishing areas in the Eastern Pacific, West Africa, and the
Western Indian Ocean, the contribution from the Pacific

Summary Of Brian Williams Code Of Ethics
Contextualizes and explains our example: Brian Williams was a chief news anchor and
managing editor for NBC Nightly News. He has earned many awards in journalism as well as
recognition in the entertainment field. In 2003, Brian Williams, was reporting on the U.S
invasion in Iraq. In this expose, he flew in 1 of 4 helicopters and one helicopter, the one directly
ahead, was hit with an RPG requiring a forced landing. However, in 2013, Williams went on a
late night news show and blatantly stated that his helicopter was also hit; which was not true. He
again retold the false story in 2015 during a tribute to a former US Army soldier. A few days later,
Williams was exposed by other former soldiers that were witnessed during the event in Iraq. Brian
Williams gave false information to the entire United States, therefore tarnishing his reputation as a
reputable, trustworthy news anchor. This led to him publicly apologizing and later being demoted

Health Information Technology From The Length Of Time That...
Many health information technology (health IT) products are not designed for their intended users
and are inefficient and even dangerous. Federal agencies are responding to this challenge by
developing regulations and reports to guide improved usability. Therefore, clinicians and
informatics nurse specialists (INS) require a suite of skills to understand concepts about the user
experience and to conduct usabilitytests. Reducing medication errors have been a major focus of
computerized physician order entry (CPOE) implementation. Thus, systems that support clinical
decision making and provide early warnings of changes in patient status can be used to avert
medical errors. Rojas and Seckman (2014) suggested that the INS can apply... Show more content

Transcription errors such as a misplaced decimal point and illegible handwriting were major
causes of error. Incomplete orders were a problem that caused additional steps in the nursing
workflow. The implementation of software systems, like CPOE, helps to eradicate these problems.
According to Yui et al., (2012), CPOE is a component of the larger electronic health record(EHR)
system which enables practitioners to enter orders directly into a computer then transmits orders
to the order management system for processing. CPOE is designed to allow clinicians to enter a
variety of orders, such as medications, dietary services, consults, admission and discharge orders,
nursing orders, lab requisitions, and other diagnostic tests, via computer. The idea behind CPOE
was for prescribers, such as physicians, dentists, osteopathic doctors, anesthesiologists, nurse
practitioners, and physician assistants, to enter orders directly into the computer. During the
ordering process, alerts, such as drug allergy warnings, and other decision support rules should be
available to assist health care providers. Once an order is entered, the CPOE system interfaces or
integrated with other EHR components, such as a laboratory or pharmacy system, to process the
order. In fact, the term order entry can be misleading, as CPOE is truly an order management
system that allows orders to be

Knowledge Management Within An Organization
Knowledge management within an organization is affected by the political practices, the methods
of resolving conflict, and the assignment of responsibility for outcomes. Buchanan (2008) stated in
relation to a study, Political tactics mentioned most frequently were blaming others, selective
information, creating a favorable image, developing support, ingratiation, creating obligations,
rewards, coercion and threats, associating with influential individuals, and forming powerful
coalitions (p. 52). Consequently, within the challenges of an organization Hislop (2013) explained
that there is a relationship between authority and information which contribute to divergence and
politics. In our school organization there is consistent conflict between central office, school
leaders, and faculty members in regards to political processes, the resolving process of issues, and
accountability practices. The core issue of our school s challenges in regards to how the mentioned
factors is the managementof information by school leaders as directives are sent from central office
school district officials that in some manner affect teacher s ability to perform in the classroom. Our
school is known to voluntarily be assigned by central office executives to participate in testing state

BP and the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Case Study Tamatha French Management 6000 Hawaii
Pacific University Introduction and Background On April 20, 2010, the petroleum industry
suffered the largest maritime disaster oil spill in its history known as the Deepwater Horizon oil
spill. The Deepwater Horizon oil rig that had been working on a well for BP in the Gulf
exploded and went up in flames. Subsequently, massive amounts of oil spilled out into the water,
threatening the marine life and those living on the shore. The fire burned for 36 hours before the
rig sank into the ocean, leaking dangerous chemicals into the water. Hydrocarbons and oil
continued to leak into the Gulf of Mexico for 87 days before they managed to seal the well. The
Gulf spill, which left 11 workers dead and 17 injured, is about the size of Rhode Island, running
across the northern Gulf of Mexico between the mouth of the Mississippi River and Florida. It runs
wide, threatening the coastlines, and deep, traveling beneath about 5,000 feet of water and 13,000
feet under the seabed, (Emami, 2010). BP faced an angry uproar from the media, consumers, and
environmentalists all over the world. The economy and the environment suffered greatly because of
this incident. As investigations began, speculations quickly arose about the morals and capability
of the company. The one positive image of BP had been shattered. Customers lost faith in the
company and criticized the actions of its executives. Tony

Recalled To Life Literary Analysis
One of the major themes portrayed in the book is theme of the possibility of resurrection. It is
interpreted literally and/or figuratively. One example is from the first book titled, Recalled to
Life , which talked about saving Lucie Manette s dad, Dr. Alexander Manette, from the Bastille
that he was kept in for eighteen years. Dr. Manette used to have a happy and peaceful life, but
when he was imprisoned, he became mentally ill. However, when Lucie entered his life, he
gradually went back to his old self. Here, Lucie, in a way, brought him back to life or resurrected
him. Another example is Charles Darnay. He was affected by Lucie, that he asked for her to wed

Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel
Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically
endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named
Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to
recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and
Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They
believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi
embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such
events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise
into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel
Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without
animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of
believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he
says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask
any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer.
(Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however,
unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the
aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals
story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that
Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured
if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic,
vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his
very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept.
He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to
think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was

Computer Based Systems And Its Effects On The Workplace
Introduction The use of a timeclock to monitor only select employees negatively impacts the
workplace, as it creates an environment that lacks trust and causes morale to plummet. Even so,
many good intentioned managers implement timeclocks as a way to manage some, or all
employees, believing this will be a way to keep employees honest as well as become a money
saving endeavor. What they fail to realize is that it can actually cost the company in several
ways; it may lead to financial loss for the company in unearned wages and can be the cause of
losing quality employees. Punching a timeclock is not a new idea. The original Bundy timeclock
was patented in 1890 by Willard Le Grand Bundy in Auburn, New York. Today, computer based
systems are used in conjunction with magnetic stripe cards, barcodes, RFID (radio frequency
identification) chips, and even biometric scans to monitor the coming and goings of employees.
(Wikipedia, 2015) The clocks are meant to encourage promptness and decrease unwarranted
overtime, but some employees feel singled out and that they are being punished for the
indiscretions of others. Dee Haverrn recently posted an online discussion about being made to
clock in as a Registered Nurse, I resent being treated like a factory worker. (Haverrn, 2007) Many
HR experts and employees agree that salaried exempt employees may feel micro managed and
discouraged when made to punch a timeclock. Applying uniformity and reason to policy

Being Chinese Vietnamese American
Being Chinese Vietnamese American, I have always seen myself as being very unique. In addition
to celebrating the Western holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year s, and
Valentine s Day, my family celebrates our mixture of Chinese and Vietnamese cultures with two
other big holidays: Lunar New Year and Mid Autumn Moon Festival. Although many cultures
celebrate holidays differently, one thing is always consistent in most of these celebrations: the
important role of food.
When I was a toddler, my family visited Vietnam for the first time together. It was the also the first
time my mom returned since she got married and immigrated to the United States. We arrived
around the time of the Mid Autumn Festival that summer. The humid streets swelled with clusters
of vendors selling handmade paper lanterns, small candles, vibrant colored toys, and a variety of
cakes.
Mooncakes, or BГЎnh Trung Thu, is the Vietnamese name for the Chinese influenced bakery
delight traditionally eaten during the Mid Autumn Festival. A key to the festival s celebration in
addition to lunar worship and moon watching, was enjoying with family and friends an
indispensable delicacy with sips of warm tea. My aunt bought me a mooncake in the shape of a cute
piglet. Being twice the size of my hands combined, I happily cupped the clear plastic container
tied together by a small red ribbon. After anxiously skipping home with Mister Piggy (see Figure

How Does Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
The Secret behind the Doors An allegory, also known as an analogy, is a short story that can
have hidden meanings using symbols and characters. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel
Hawthorne is an example of this because when being read, the reader can see that the symbols are
out of the ordinary and not just a plain rose, or skeleton. The symbols throughout this short story
represent events that occur in the story, as foreshadow to the end. The characters are used to show
emotions people contain, and to prove a point by Hawthorne. Hawthorne represents hidden
meanings by using a series of symbols, and characters to appeal to the reader s common sense in
hopes that they will understand the deeper meaning he is really trying to get across.... Show more

Dr. Heidegger uses it to show Medbourne, the Widow Wycherly, Gascoigne and Colonel
Killgrew what the water from the Fountain of Youth can do. As he drops the rose into the vase
full of water it becomes beautiful, and young again. When the 3 men and the widow receive the
pure water and drink it, they also become young and beautiful; also receiving the fine qualities
they had from when they were younger. The rose represents life, or death because once the vase
is knocked onto the ground, the rose becomes old and withered once more. The Fountain of
Youth water works while they are drinking it and it is fresh in their bodies, but once the water is
gone, they become old again. The rose is a sign of the people who drank the water to become
young, but are still old within

Sharepoint Workflow Paper
Workflows are tools that manage personal, office, department or an entire organization s
processes. A SharePoint workflow is an automated flowchart that takes a lot of the effort,
guesswork, and arbitrariness out of your regular work processes and makes it simpler for you to
streamline your tasks. It is most useful in automating existing conceptual or manual work processes
of the company and reducing human dependence on enterprise as far as possible.
Workflows in SharePoint provide great ways to save time, effort, and cost by automating existing
business processes. Many business needs can be addressed through SharePoint workflows. Here are
some of them:

Although business needs vary, some business needs almost look the same across organizations. Let
s look at five SharePoint out of the box (OOTB) workflow templates:
1. Approval: Think about a document or a list item that needs to be approved before being made
visible to many people in the organization. The Approval workflow helps automate this process and
the progress of approval can be monitored at any given time.
2. Collect Feedback: Sometimes content isn t drafted in a single attempt or by a single person. In
such scenarios, the Collect Feedback workflow provides support to get feedback and comments
from several people within the organization. Each person who opens the assigned task to provide
feedback can interact with three actions:
*Send feedback
*Request change in an item
*Reassign task
3. Collect Signatures: Imagine a proposal within the organization that needs to be sent to
management. People within the organization might or might not like to sign it. The Collect
Signatures workflow provides the options to either sign or ignore.
4. Publishing Approval: This workflow is designed to approve the changes made to pages in a
publishing site. For example, imagine an employee adding a news page to the public facing

Integration between the Christian Creation Story and the Scientific Big Bang Theory
In our modern age of scientific revolution there seems to be a growing tension between the
scientific and religious understanding of this world. This tension is not surprising as the two
worldviews exist on different realms in many ways. The Christian faith, grounded in the revelation
of God through Christ for humanity s salvation, clashes with science on many levels especially
concerning human nature, as well Divine authority, as compared to the scientific rational and
mechanistic understanding of matter. However in this age of scientific revolution there has been a
more concerted effort to develop ways to integrate the scientific and Christian ... Show more content

Christian practices like prayer, baptism and communion are all drawn from the Bible. Humanity
holds prime importance as we are created in God s image. God is the creator and sustainer of all
life on this earth. These Christian beliefs have come under more scrutiny in an age of scientific
revolution.
Science thrives on seeking to provide a framework of understanding for the natural and physical
world of matter. This endeavor involves taking an ever curious approach towards the observable
world and constantly seeks to unravel more of the scientific knowledge of this world. The field is
often concerned about mechanisms and processes that drive the natural phenomena we observe.
Scientific methods often involve the formation of hypothesis from observation of matter,
development of experiments to tests hypotheses, formation of theories and models from
conclusions of experiments, and further refinement of theories to fit other data or new observations.
Science often seeks to generate laws underlying the occurrences in nature, be it the laws of
thermodynamics or the Newtonian laws of motion. Symbols, notations and mathematical equations
are often used to provide this scientific lens of understanding this world. Knowledge gained from
scientific endeavor is used to benefit humanity, in the curing of diseases and technological
machinery.

The Extent to which Strategic Environmental Assessment...
1. Introduction
Climate change the wicked problem is continuously imposing significant threat to the nature as
whole according to the recent projections (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). This anticipated
hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ( green house gas
emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing
GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the
complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b).
Transportation, residential and business energy use and industrial sector is the major contributor of
global GHG emission (EPA 2013). These three sectors are influenced actively by... Show more

Carbon dioxide concentration has increased by 40% since the pre industrial times, largely from
fossil fuel emissions and land use change emissions. Human intervention on the climate structure is
unambiguous. Further emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in
all components of the climate system. Most characteristics of climate change will continue for many
centuries even if emissions are stopped totally at this point (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013).
2.2 Mitigation Need
Mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases
(IPCC 2014a). According to Fifth Assessment Report of IPCC (IPCC 2014a), technical and
behavioural mitigation instrument for all transport modes, in addition new infrastructure and urban
redevelopment investments could decrease final energy demand in 2050 by around 40% below the
baseline. Integrated urban planning, transit oriented development, compact urban form that
supports cycling and walking, and new infrastructures such as high speed rail systems that will
reduce short haul air travel demand, can play a vital role for emission reduction (IPCC 2014a);
which can be guided at the very beginning of the policy and plan making through instruments like
SEA. Moreover, the next two decades present a window of opportunity for mitigation in urban
areas, as a significant segment of the world s transition/semi urban areas will be urbanized during
this period in

Cyber Incident Response Plan For Cyber Attack
1 What are the procedures incase of an attack. We should write a well developed cyber incident
response plan that includes all the protocols to responses. Our plan should generally have these
following components, such as response team, reporting, initial response, investigation, recovery
and follow up, public relations, and law enforcement. The job of the response team is to develop

Rhetorical Analysis In his passionately written article The Backlash Against Serial and Why It

criticisms that have been thrown at Serial since its debut. Serial is a spinoff series from parent
podcast This American Life, which details the investigation and reinvestigation of a brutal 1999
murder involving high school lovers of the Baltimore area. Friedersdorf s piece not only comes
to defend Serial s honor, but it also fights back and grapples with these disparagements thrown at
the podcast. In particular, the accused transgressions from fellow writers Jay Caspian Kang in his
own work Serial and White Reporter Privilege and Jeff Yang s post from Quartz. In my
judgement, Friedersdorf does an excellent job refuting Kang s and Yang s opposing views and
persuading his audience that Serial is innocent of the accused wrongdoings. What are these
wrongdoings you ask? Kang claims that Serial is not so much about the cold case it is
investigating, but more so the producer and narrator, Sarah Koenig s, fixation on the case. He also
believes that while Koenig may be well intentioned, she is interpreting and making assumptions on
facts of the lives of people within minority communities involved with the case. Another writer,
Yang asserts that This American Life s method of narrative journalism displays cultural clumsiness
(Yang qtd. Friedersdorf). Friedersdorf argues that these allegations

Lady Macbeth Character Analysis
Two scenes later, Shakespeare delves deeper into Lady Macbeth s character which adds another
perspective to the predicament Macbeth finds himself faced with. Lady Macbeth makes apparent,
to the audience, regarding her husband, that she has fear concerning thy nature , and that Macbethis
too full o th milk of human kindness . This suggests that Lady Macbeth fears that her husband is
incapable of producing what she deems necessary for him to gain the kingship. He possesses the
desire, but the ruthlessness required in order to secure kingship and usurp the throne, is
something that Lady Macbeth opts to take upon herself after minimal deliberation, which reveals
much about her and her husband, in terms of Lady Macbeth s dominance that would shock a
contemporary audience. The word milk is perhaps alluding to her belief that Macbeth doesn t
possess the strength of character that at the time was seemingly synonymous with masculinity.
The audience may well feel as though Lady Macbeth believes that Macbeth yearns for the
kingship, yet he will not be proactive in going about obtaining it by illegitimate means as she
labels him as too kind to take a leading role in an approach of that ilk. Shakespeare arguably here
raises a wider debate by using the play as a mouthpiece to voice his concerns regarding the twisted
society of the time in that kindness could be seen as something that would be detrimental to an
individual. Shakespeare also perhaps intends to voice concerns over

The Development And Production Of Golden Rice
Transgenesis is the genetic modification of the traits of an organism through the transfer of
genetic material from one species to another [8]. This method is when a gene is inserted into a
different specie so that the organism will attain the desired gene from the foreign (different)
specie. These organisms can express the genes from foreign species because the genetic code for
all organisms is similar which results in that particular DNAsequence that codes for the same
proteins and therefore the same trait and will be present in the newly inserted foreign organism
containing the desired gene.
Transgenesis occurs mainly because of human manipulation with the purpose of improving animals
and plants, modifying crops and also using these organisms as bio factories for human gain/ benefit.
The development and production of Golden Rice is a good example of transgenesis and the
method of Agrobacterium which was found due to the work of two European scientific who

These colonists died months after settlement. Why did they meet there death so early? The

Thus, after some time our strains bred and we recollected pregnant females. They were then
euthanized and we obtained all the embryos at the age of E12.5 and E18.5.
At this step embryo genotyping is required to identify each member of the litter in order to be able
to make future experiments. Mouse genotyping is the process of determining if they express or not
a specific gene. The purpose of this procedure in our case was to obtain purified DNA, amplify Cre
and Fog1 genes by PCR and run an agarose gel to see if the mouse expressed them or not. Control

A.Fixation
Chemical fixatives are used to maintain the structural integrity of the cell and to preserve tissue
from degradation. Their main function is to cross link proteins irreversibly and act as a bacterial

Hong Kong With Our Newest Acquisition Yammer
In conclusion I recommend we expand to Hong Kong with our newest acquisition Yammer.
When we look at the financial health of the company and our current ratio is 2.50 meaning for
every dollar the company owes it has $2.50 of assets, and the quick ratio is 2.44. These are huge
and strong ratios and the main reason I know the company can expand its operations overseas with
this new product. The tax situation is Hong Kong is very attractive to all types of companies. The
rates here in the United States the company pays 27.1%, while in Hong Kong the tax rate is only
16%. This tax saving alone has the ability to increase profits. The company s debt is very low as
indicated by the debt ratio of
.48, so fir every .48 cents the company owns $1.00 worth of assets. The company currently
generates
.13cents in profit for every one dollar in profit. These ratios will go up with less of a tax burden.
If we take the 16% tax and apply it to gross profits we show a nice increase in net profit and all the
financial ratios go up respectively. This potential addition profit will benefit current and future
shareholders with elevated dividends and more retained earnings which we can use to finance other
operations or expand the operation that I am proposing.
I feel we can expand this potential operation after only 2 years. I feel that time frame will allow us
the opportunity to fine tune the Yammer product for the Pacific Rim, while still offering the
existing product for transplants in this

Connective tissue examples are; adipose (fatty tissues), loose connective tissue, dense fibrous
connective tissue, elastic connective tissue, cartilage, osseous tissue (bone), tendons and ligaments.
I have chosen to look more at adipose (fatty tissue):
Adipose is a specialised type of connective tissue which stores lipids. It collects in large numbers
and is shaped to be large round or oval cells. Adipose has a similar function to that of fibrous
tissue, which throughout the body connects by irregular network of strands to form a cushion layer
to support blood vessels, nerves and other organs.
Adipose is essential for insulation due to its low thermal capacity which allows the body to retain
heat, thus functioning normally. Its other vital function is that of protection of delicate organs such
as the eyes and kidneys. Fat cells offer this by forming liquid and being excellent at absorbing
pressure as they cannot be flattened.
Adipose tissue is needed for the body to turn to in times of need due to it being able to form a
food reserve. Excess carbohydrates are made into glycogen and turned into fat and stored within
adipose tissue which when energy is required by the body converts back.
Adipose tissue is normally localised to certain depots within the body such

A Comparison Of The Holidays In Thanksgiving, Christmas...
While holidays have often been criticized as ploys to push consumerism on to the public, they have
also been widely recognized as a reason for families to come together and interact with one another.
These annual interactions often repeated certain behaviors, thus they serve as guidelines for how
the familyshould operate during future holidays. To gain a better understanding on the connection
between family identity and family rituals, I decided to interview my father on his Thanksgiving,

holiday rituals present within his family have contributed largely to the way he perceives his
family identity. Through this paper I will be using content from the interview regarding traditions
for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year s Eve, as well as other academic material to analyze
how holiday traditions contribute to my father s perceptionof his family identity. To begin, when I

was the preparation of traditional ethnic foods. He went on to detail foods such as candied yams,
macaroni and cheese and spiraled honey ham. By my father listing these ethnic foods as essential to

should function during the holiday. Another detail that he mentioned as important to his ideal

in all reality is just due to evolution based on demographics (my apologies to the bible belt for
my bold statement) holds us back from peace. Humans are capable of so much; we possess so
much potential to love, build, and thrive as a community. It should be each of our own personal
missions to further humanness, to remember, revive, and preserve what makes us whole. So do all
of us a favor and let s start shoveling the astonishing human traits we could all possess back into
the gaping hole existing within each of us. Next time you see a mother of four kids trying to carry

Aristotle, A World-Renowned Greek Philosopher Once Noted
Aristotle, a world renowned Greek philosopher once noted a tragedy is the imitation of an action
that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself...in a dramatic, not in a narrative
form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish its catharsis of such emotions
(Bywater, 1920, p. 35). These words encapsulate the perception that tragedyis a mimicry surrounded
by an underlying purpose through a direct action that arouses the audience s emotions of fear and
relief by witnessing a dreadful or gripping change that happens to the protagonist. Between Greek
and Elizabethan times, characters were developed to portray tragic people, who possessed flaws
that created drastic consequences for them in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cordelia chose to be truthful with her father instead of lying like her sisters, which caused her to
be disowned, thus establishing the central conflict to arise within the kingdom. In relation, Jason
ridded Medea as a wife and began an affair with the Princess of Corinth to make provision for you
[Medea] and the children (Euripides, 1993, p.15) . Even though he thought this would benefit
Medea and their children, his rash judgment proved similar to Cordelia s situation, as this produced
problems between Medea and Jason, which later is shown to be detrimental to Jason. Although their
flaws caused tragedy to strike, Cordelia and Jason remained consistent in their behaviors throughout
the play and never changed who they truly were.
Consistency of a character s attributes and traits during a play tends to create a more believable
character and storyline. According to Poetics, a written theory by Aristotle, it states that the second
most important element in a tragedy is a character that never does or says anything that will be
seen as acting out of character (cited in Lonardo, 2012). When a character does something that is
against their better judgment, it makes it difficult for the audience to accept that what they are
doing is the right course of action. Furthermore, Aristotle goes on to specify that for a character to
be considered a

As the first bad practice, the company allows only one accountant to be in charge of the company s
financial duties. In the other hand, it can cost the company a lot of money due to the possibility of
fraud. The accounting firm recommended the company to hire someone else fill out one of the
accountant s actual positions to avoid segregation of duties. Another wrong practice is the handling
of the petty cash. We recommend that the company uses the control activity called establishment of
responsibility. Therefore, the company should only allow one person to handle the petty cash, and
it will prevent theft to occur. Regarding the human resource control activity, HR professionals of
LBJ Company should conduct a background investigation for candidates. Also, conducting

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (Adhd) Is The Most
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is the most diagnosed disorder in America at
a staggering 11 percent of the nation s children. That statistic equals to 6.4 million children ages
4 17 being diagnosed with this disorder. According to The Center for Disease Control (CDC),
this means more students than ever are being diagnosed with a disorder which makes learning
difficult for them. Dealing with this disorder can be extremely difficult as an educator and a
student. One of many approaches by educators have been the use of out of the box teaching tools
such as exercise balls. Seasoned teachers relying on years of experience will sometimes disregard

Sparks study, using tools to allow creative minds to blossom is something he suggests.
According to a study published in The Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, by Cory Armes,
M.E suggests hyperactivity may actually help students overcome their attention problems.
Running, jumping and even rolling around in class actually helps an ADHD student
concentrate. Most ADHD students become restless when they are asked to do a task involving
the use of the executive functioning of the brain. Research also shows when students with
ADHD were asked to do a task which involved working with memory and organization, students
that were given permission to move or fidget performed much better than students who were
asked to be still. This study proves the ADHD student s gross motor movements helps them
finish intellectual tasks. In essence if a student with ADHD is allowed to move around and
fidget, they will be more successful in their work. What does this mean to the average student
and teacher? Studies have shown to help an ADHD student succeed, he or she must be allowed
to be hyperactive. How does one control this hyperactive behavior? A wobble chair, an exercise
ball as a seat and small fidget devices such as squishy balls, cubes, and spinners can be used by
ADHD students to keep them in their space and be less of a distraction for others in the class.

What Are The Ethical Ethics Of Nike
Introduction
When growing an enterprise that you wish to compete on a global market, what needs to be
taken into consideration is scaling. Most importantly for investors, what will it cost to expand
this company and offer their products on a global scale? This is what Nike faced in the 1980 s
when they expanded by outsourcing their production Asia, 86% of their production housed
primarily in Korea and Taiwan by 1986, (Locke, 2002) with only 17% remaining in the US by
the end of the 1990 s. By manufacturing off shores in low wage countries, Nike garnered the
nickname Sweat Shop as most people in the 1990 s believed their practices to be unethical. For the
ones calling the shots at Nike in the 1980 s and 1990 s, was this just another case ... Show more

  • 2. Socrates, A Classical Greek Philosopher Socrates, born in 470 BC in Athens, Greece, was a classical Greek philosopher and is believed to be one of the founders of Western philosophy. He lived a good 71 years until his death in 399 BC. Although Socrates never wrote anything down, we still know quite a bit about him. Everything we know, we have learned through the writings of one of Socratesstudents, Plato. One very famous phenomenon we learn from Socrates is Socrates Socratic method. It essentially laid down the building blocks of Western logic and philosophy and it consists of five steps. The first step is to make a statement; the second is to then look for exceptions. The third step comes in two parts. It states that if an exception is found then the statement is either imprecise, or flat out false. Further comes step four that says that if the statement is imprecise then to revise it. Finally step five is to repeat. A lot of people were not Socrates biggest fans, which leads us to the charges and trial of Socrates. He was put into trial for being impious and corrupting the youth. Although some may argue that Socrates was an evil, unjust person that led a bad life and was a troublemaker, I affirm that Socrates led a good and honorable life due to his great wisdom in admitting that he knows nothing. His awareness of his own ignorance makes him an admirable person. To begin with, Socrates was quite the character. His soul life mission consisted of using philosophy to achieve practical results for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychoanalytic Analysis of Looking for Alaska Essay Katerina Syntelis Barbara Bontempo, Ph.D. ENG694 В– Teaching Literature January 20, 2008 PSYCHOANALYTIC ANALYSIS OF LOOKING FOR ALASKA It seems natural to think about novels in terms of dreams or psychoanalytical realities. Like dreams, novels are fictions, inventions of the mind that, though based on reality, are by definition not exactly and literally true. Conversely, dreams may have some truth to tell but like novels their truth must be interpreted before it can be grasped. Such is the case with John Green s young adult novel, Looking for Alaska. It holds many truths that are relevant to young adults, but to extract those lessons, one must first view the plot and characters through a lens of psychoanalytical theory. ... He is only a colonel in that he has the ability to strategize and rank his troops for the purpose of prank deployment. And finally, the beautifully damaged, larger than life Alaska Young. As her name implies, she is so young to have the problems that she has and meet such an untimely demise. She is also aptly named Alaska because she is (or wishes to be) an unknown, mysterious, possibly dangerous frontier to her schoolmates. We learn well into the novel, that Alaska experienced a horrible tragedy when she was little: her mother had an aneurysm and died in front of her. Alaska, in shock, was unable to take any action to save her mother and has since tried to control situations with her own volatility and unpredictability. She manipulates those around her by alternating between being a misunderstood victim and an instigator of mischief. As an adult reader who has crossed over to the reality of life, reading about these characters can be a transparent, futile exercise because as adults looking back at youth we have the experience to know where these characters are headed before they even start their journey. However, for young adults who are still in the throes of existential angst this is a powerful novel that handles teenage rites of passage and coming of age issues such as loyalty, friendship, belonging, and even death and loss very well. Mirroring the pattern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Reality Of Reality Tv Essay It is a given that the culture we consume shapes who we are, more specifically what we view on television shapes the content of our minds. It is also generally known that children can be easily influenced by what they see on television. Reality TV is no exception to this rule. It may appear that reality TV is a benign phenomenon but it is in fact a virus that has quickly diseased our society. More specifically, it attracts girls most mercilessly by affecting them negatively as to how they perceive themselves. Indeed, girls who watch reality TV learn that deceit and meanness is normal behaviour in order to achieve success, begin to self objectify more and have a higher expectation of more drama and conflict in their lives as well. The reality of reality TV is that it negatively portrays females. Is there no end to the onslaught on the female gender by television? According to Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the Parents Television Council, Because girls are seeing people behaving in a negative way on reality programs, they tend to accept that that s normative behaviour. (Semigram, 1) That may be fine when the behaviour is positive but what of the behaviour viewed on reality TV? Watching a heavy diet of meanness and lying in order for females to get ahead has a horrible impact on girls. Does reality TV really portray meanness and deceit? Yes, it unquestionably does! Description of the Project Proposal The project requirement as I understand is to develop a sustainable marketing and human resource structure for a well established Childcare centre that caters for local families with pre school aged children in the surrounding suburbs and Swinburne University community. This structure must have a low financial budget and also cater for further expansion in the future. The client has indicated that they are actively seeking to advertise and raise the view of Kindergarten with the aim of filling both 3 Year old and 4 year old programs to their capacity. Therefore it is very important that the planned structure can fulfil the requirements of the clients. It is also mentioned that the client is very cautious of a structure that all new individuals can follow even if they don t have the right skills and experience needed to finish the task. This is proposed in the form of the Annual Marketing Plan, which will be conducted by volunteers who constantly keep changing every year. Therefore this designed structure must cater for the client with this particular need. Furthermore, the client has indicated an interest in the professional development of their staff and would like to conduct programs that would help the staff be motivated in the work they perform. Although this is not yet confirmed as a definite trial, the designed structure should be able to achieve this possibility. Marketing Team and Human Resource Proposals This project proposal ... • 6. Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer s Day By Anne Bradstreet... Love is such a strong word that we sometimes use it to the best of our ability. While reading I was very intrigued by two poems that I feel was wrote more so on the love side and trying to show or I would say express themselves through the poem. The poems Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeareand To My Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet are two poems I feel is trying to express love, but in two totally different ways. The poems are bringing meaning to the word love and showing that it doesn t have to be used only to show a connection between two different people, but it can be used in other ways as well. In the poem Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? By William Shakespeare, the author is showing his love through nature. He is actually comparing every little thing he feels is right about his companion to something in nature. He says, Thou art more lovely and more temperate. From this the author is saying one s love is more lovable and is hotter than summer. He then goes on to say, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May. He is saying that before summer comes its spring time and the windy weather is knocking all of the buds off the flowers and making them new, so he is she is more better now that they have gone through a rough time before. After that he says, And summer s lease hath all too short a date. He means by this that the summer time goes by very fast, so they have to savor every moment together during this time while ... This is a representation of McTeigue presenting a realist style to the audience through elements and characters within the film through the effective usage of colors. The usage of costume (with regards to the mis en scene) played an integral role in McTeigue presenting a realist style to the audience. In the sequence we are presented where Evey works, we are exposed to an individual who is dressed differently than anyone else. This symbolizes someone who is different from everyone else (Evey is the only individual wearing a non business casual outfit; wears a blouse) with regards to her position in her workplace. The long shots and point of view shots were used so that we can have an idea as to who such characters are and how their lives are. For example, in the sequence where the ruler of England is introduced to the audience, the usage of long shots allows us to understand these particular characters and what they do. In addition, we are able to deduct that these five individuals are to be considered as top aides to the ruler of England. Even though they possess a sense of authority, they are still below/under the ruler of England. This was demonstrated through the camera s angling. In this same sequence the camera angle is at a low angle. This low angle is used to demonstrate the amount of power the ruler has over these individuals and over the country. The usage of closeups plays a role in the depiction as to how much power the ruler possesses. Close ups, when effectively used, can portray power. Because of this sequences frequent use of point of view shots, the audience is able to relate and to feel the same way the five characters feel during this sequence (feeling inferior to the ruler of England). Swaziland has a history of struggle and hardships. According to the US Department of State (2014), September 6, 1968 marked the day that Swaziland finally gained it s independence from Great Britain. Independence, however, would not mean freedom for the people of Swaziland. Five years later, King Sobhuza dissolved the parliament of Swaziland on April 12, 1973. This resulted in King Sobhuza absorbing all political power in the country, which he used to ban all other political parties from operating. The implementation of software systems, like CPOE, helps to eradicate these problems. According to Yui et al., (2012), CPOE is a component of the larger electronic health record(EHR) system which enables practitioners to enter orders directly into a computer then transmits orders to the order management system for processing. CPOE is designed to allow clinicians to enter a variety of orders, such as medications, dietary services, consults, admission and discharge orders, nursing orders, lab requisitions, and other diagnostic tests, via computer. The idea behind CPOE was for prescribers, such as physicians, dentists, osteopathic doctors, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, to enter orders directly into the computer. During the ordering process, alerts, such as drug allergy warnings, and other decision support rules should be available to assist health care providers. The Deepwater Horizon oil rig that had been working on a well for BP in the Gulf exploded and went up in flames. Subsequently, massive amounts of oil spilled out into the water, threatening the marine life and those living on the shore. The fire burned for 36 hours before the rig sank into the ocean, leaking dangerous chemicals into the water. • 17. Morality Of Animals In Life Of Pi, By Yann Martel Life of Pi, written by Yann Martel, follows the life of Piscine Molitor Patel who physically endured over two hundred days on a directionless lifeboat with only a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as a companion. When Pi is first recovered and put into a hospital, he is forced to recount his detailed story to a couple of judgemental Japanese correspondents, Mr.Okamoto and Mr.Chiba, who not only do not believe his story, but laugh in his face as he vocalizes it. They believe Pi s tale is nothing more than just that; a fictional tale which he invented. Despite Pi embellishing the events that occurred into almost complete fiction and unbelievability, such events did happen, just not in the same way Pi explains. With taking Mamaji s initial promise into consideration, Pi s story involving animals is the better story. To begin Martel s novel Mamaji says that Pi s story was one that would make one believe in God. The story without animals is not only brutal, depressing, and traumatizing but it also disregards the fun of believing in something for the sole purpose of wanting to. Pi Patel furthers this idea when he says If you stumble at mere believability, what are you living for?...Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. (Martel 297). Pi explains it best, his story with animals may be unbelievable;however, unbelievable things occur every day. He agrees with the condescending Japanese men, in the aspect that his story is unimaginable, yet challenges them by forcing them to think. The animals story allowed Pi to believe the unbelievable in order to save his own humanity. Pi s belief that Richard Parker was real, permitted him to push away the realistic trauma he would ve endured if he faced the truth. In the beginning of Martel s novel, Pi is a young, pure, innocent, pacifistic, vegetarian boy who just wants something to believe in, a purpose. Pi allows Richard Parker, his very own, large orange symbol of hope, be the survival side of himself that he has yet to accept. He is constantly running from his behavior by placing it onto Richard Parker. This allows Pi to think the tiger saves his inner past version of himself. It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Computer Based Systems And Its Effects On The Workplace Introduction The use of a timeclock to monitor only select employees negatively impacts the workplace, as it creates an environment that lacks trust and causes morale to plummet. Even so, many good intentioned managers implement timeclocks as a way to manage some, or all employees, believing this will be a way to keep employees honest as well as become a money saving endeavor. What they fail to realize is that it can actually cost the company in several ways; it may lead to financial loss for the company in unearned wages and can be the cause of losing quality employees. Punching a timeclock is not a new idea. The original Bundy timeclock was patented in 1890 by Willard Le Grand Bundy in Auburn, New York. Today, computer based systems are used in conjunction with magnetic stripe cards, barcodes, RFID (radio frequency identification) chips, and even biometric scans to monitor the coming and goings of employees. (Wikipedia, 2015) The clocks are meant to encourage promptness and decrease unwarranted overtime, but some employees feel singled out and that they are being punished for the indiscretions of others. Dee Haverrn recently posted an online discussion about being made to clock in as a Registered Nurse, I resent being treated like a factory worker. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne is an example of this because when being read, the reader can see that the symbols are out of the ordinary and not just a plain rose, or skeleton. The symbols throughout this short story represent events that occur in the story, as foreshadow to the end. The characters are used to show emotions people contain, and to prove a point by Hawthorne. Hawthorne represents hidden meanings by using a series of symbols, and characters to appeal to the reader s common sense in hopes that they will understand the deeper meaning he is really trying to get across.... Integration between the Christian Creation Story and the Scientific Big Bang Theory In our modern age of scientific revolution there seems to be a growing tension between the scientific and religious understanding of this world. This tension is not surprising as the two worldviews exist on different realms in many ways. The Christian faith, grounded in the revelation of God through Christ for humanity s salvation, clashes with science on many levels especially concerning human nature, as well Divine authority, as compared to the scientific rational and mechanistic understanding of matter. Science thrives on seeking to provide a framework of understanding for the natural and physical world of matter. This endeavor involves taking an ever curious approach towards the observable world and constantly seeks to unravel more of the scientific knowledge of this world. The field is often concerned about mechanisms and processes that drive the natural phenomena we observe. Scientific methods often involve the formation of hypothesis from observation of matter, development of experiments to tests hypotheses, formation of theories and models from conclusions of experiments, and further refinement of theories to fit other data or new observations. Science often seeks to generate laws underlying the occurrences in nature, be it the laws of thermodynamics or the Newtonian laws of motion. This anticipated hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ( green house gas emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b). Serial is a spinoff series from parent podcast This American Life, which details the investigation and reinvestigation of a brutal 1999 murder involving high school lovers of the Baltimore area. Friedersdorf s piece not only comes to defend Serial s honor, but it also fights back and grapples with these disparagements thrown at the podcast. In particular, the accused transgressions from fellow writers Jay Caspian Kang in his own work Serial and White Reporter Privilege and Jeff Yang s post from Quartz. In my judgement, Friedersdorf does an excellent job refuting Kang s and Yang s opposing views and persuading his audience that Serial is innocent of the accused wrongdoings. What are these wrongdoings you ask? Kang claims that Serial is not so much about the cold case it is investigating, but more so the producer and narrator, Sarah Koenig s, fixation on the case. He also believes that while Koenig may be well intentioned, she is interpreting and making assumptions on facts of the lives of people within minority communities involved with the case. • 28. Lady Macbeth Character Analysis Two scenes later, Shakespeare delves deeper into Lady Macbeth s character which adds another perspective to the predicament Macbeth finds himself faced with. Lady Macbeth makes apparent, to the audience, regarding her husband, that she has fear concerning thy nature , and that Macbethis too full o th milk of human kindness . This suggests that Lady Macbeth fears that her husband is incapable of producing what she deems necessary for him to gain the kingship. He possesses the desire, but the ruthlessness required in order to secure kingship and usurp the throne, is something that Lady Macbeth opts to take upon herself after minimal deliberation, which reveals much about her and her husband, in terms of Lady Macbeth s dominance that would shock a contemporary audience. The word milk is perhaps alluding to her belief that Macbeth doesn t possess the strength of character that at the time was seemingly synonymous with masculinity. The audience may well feel as though Lady Macbeth believes that Macbeth yearns for the kingship, yet he will not be proactive in going about obtaining it by illegitimate means as she labels him as too kind to take a leading role in an approach of that ilk. Shakespeare arguably here raises a wider debate by using the play as a mouthpiece to voice his concerns regarding the twisted society of the time in that kindness could be seen as something that would be detrimental to an individual. • 30. The Development And Production Of Golden Rice Transgenesis is the genetic modification of the traits of an organism through the transfer of genetic material from one species to another [8]. This method is when a gene is inserted into a different specie so that the organism will attain the desired gene from the foreign (different) specie. These organisms can express the genes from foreign species because the genetic code for all organisms is similar which results in that particular DNAsequence that codes for the same proteins and therefore the same trait and will be present in the newly inserted foreign organism containing the desired gene. Transgenesis occurs mainly because of human manipulation with the purpose of improving animals and plants, modifying crops and also using these organisms as bio factories for human gain/ benefit.
