What Is Literacy Essay
Crafting an essay on the concept of literacy is both a challenging and rewarding task. The
difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the subject matter but also in the necessity to
navigate through the vast and multifaceted dimensions of literacy itself. Literacy extends far
beyond the ability to read and write; it encompasses a myriad of skills, contexts, and cultural
nuances.
One of the challenges is defining the boundaries of literacy. It requires a careful examination of
the historical, cultural, and societal aspects that shape our understanding of what it means to be
literate. The writer must delve into the evolution of literacy over time, exploring how it has
transformed from a basic skill to a dynamic and indispensable tool in the contemporary world.
Moreover, addressing the various forms of literacy, such as digital literacy, media literacy, and
information literacy, adds layers of complexity. Each form requires a nuanced analysis,
demanding an in-depth exploration of how these literacies interact with one another and
influence individuals and societies.
Additionally, writing a comprehensive essay on literacy involves integrating theoretical
perspectives and academic research. This requires sifting through a vast body of literature, from
classic works on literacy to cutting-edge research in the field. The ability to synthesize diverse
ideas and present a cohesive narrative is crucial in constructing a compelling essay.
Furthermore, considering the interdisciplinary nature of literacy, the writer must draw from fields
such as education, linguistics, sociology, and psychology. Balancing these perspectives while
maintaining clarity and coherence in the essay is no small feat.
The challenge intensifies when one attempts to engage the reader emotionally and intellectually.
Connecting with the audience requires not only a profound understanding of the topic but also
effective communication skills. Striking the right balance between information, analysis, and
personal engagement can be a delicate task.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of literacy is a formidable undertaking. It demands a
deep dive into historical contexts, a thorough exploration of various literacies, a synthesis of
academic research, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Despite the
challenges, the process is a valuable opportunity to deepen one's own literacy skills while
contributing to the ongoing discourse on this multifaceted and evolving concept.

The Use Of Automatic Real Time Tracking And Augmented
3d...
The interest to detect and track the endovascular devices during X ray guided
interventional procedures spans over a decade. The recent developments in real time
detection, tracking, visualization over an augmented reality with multi modality
fusion has transformed the surgical environment. However, it s quite challenging to
combine robustness of automatic real time tracking and augmented 3D visualization.
In addition, various endovascular procedures use different devices and tracking
requirements (tip or whole catheter).
The important parameters that affect the detection and tracking can be classified in to
3 broad categories; endovascular devices, projection geometry and motion. At first,
the detection of various shapes and radio opaque devices is a challenge. Secondly, the
detection is challenged by image magnification and image geometry by various
projections (Cranio caudal tilt). Thirdly, and importantly real time tracking
challenged by the patient motion and the deformation of the vessel.
Over the years, many of these challenges were addressed with success limited to
devices. However, the potential clinical benefits; to deploy the fenestrated stent grafts
accurately without blocking branches of abdominal Aorta (renal), to reduce contrast
medium injected that might reduce the risk of renal pathologies, to reduce the
radiation exposure to the patient, personal and the environmental, sustains the
research interest. In addition, a successfully registered 3D

dental CAD/CAM technology have improved over the years. Today dental
restorations are better fitting because of CAD/CAM. They are also more durable and
more natural looking (multi colored and translucent, similar to natural teeth) than
previously machined restorations. Dental CAD/CAM technology can be used in
dental offices or in dental laboratories. According to Vladimir Pavlov, CAD/CAM

The Celebration Of Womanhood By Maya Angelou
The Celebration of Womanhood
Women s beauty has been one of the favorite subjects of many literary works. Many
genius authors have admired women s physical beauty according to their
imaginations. However, their literary works, the male dominated society and the
female community have also served as accomplices in creating notion about the
beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have fair skin,
hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion
has degraded the stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The
revolutionary poet, Maya Angelou, tried to break this notion by writing a poem to
give tribute to an average looking woman who can become trendsetter and leader in
her field of interest despite of not having fair skin and the hourglass figure. In the
poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be proud of them and their
gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it.
Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus
on her real life experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems
based on the real life experiences and the human truth. The author narrates the poem
as the first person which reflects how audacious personality Maya was. Being a
modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery to compare her physical attributes
such as her smile, gesture to the worldly objects. The use of symbolism is also
Aseptic Technique And Culturing Bacteria
MATERIAL and METHODS:
Aseptic Technique and Culturing Microbes(1) experiment was followed as stated in
the lab manual from Clinical Microbiology Class C 453. Aseptic technique was
initiated at the beginning of each experiment. Starting by cleansing the work surface
with disinfected wipes to prevent cross contamination each time. Utilizing the gloves
and personal protective equipment assisted in maintaining a pure culture during the
series of experiments. The first step, was to grow the yeast and bacteria cultures. The
materials used for the Aseptic Technique Experiment(1) were: test tuberack, 5 mL
nutrient broth tubes, pipettes, a lit tea light, Fleischmen s rapid yeast pack, E. Coli
tablet and the S. epidermidis tablet. Started by activating the yeast, by placing the
content of Fleischmen s yeast bag in a disposable cup. Then added approximately 60
mL of warm tap water into the disposable cup. To assist in mixing the two items, I
carefully swirled the cup. Once the mixture was combined, it then was left alone for
around 10 minutes or until it was frothy. Each nutrient broth tube was labeled with
the correct name of the microorganism that was cultured in that tube and dated. The
S. epidermidis was selected first, to be cultured. Taking one of the 5mL nutrient broth
tube in one hand, the pipette in other hand. The cap was removed with the same hand
that had the pipette. Utilizing a lit tea light, like a bunsen burner, I flamed the mouth

Pigs Slaughter And The Slaughter Of All Livestock
Hog slaughter and the slaughter of all livestock has been a controversial topic over
the last few years. With many organizations out there against animal agriculture such
as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals (PETA) there has been a constant push to find the most
humane act of livestockharvest as possible while still maintaining excellent meat
quality. Currently, there are four acceptable methods: chemical (Carbon Dioxide
CO2), mechanical (captive bolt), mechanical (gunshot), and electrical (electrical
current). Currently, all four methods are approved for the slaughter of swine.
None, however, are ideal and all have advantages and disadvantages in pork quality
effects which leaves it up for discussion of which is the best system to use.
According to the Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act of 1978, no method
of slaughtering or handling in connection with slaughtering shall be deemed to
comply with the public policy of the United States unless it is humane. Either of the
following two methods of slaughtering and handling are hereby found to be
humane: (a) in the case of cattle, calves, horses, mules, sheep, swine, and other
livestock, all animals are rendered insensible to pain by a single blow or gunshot or
an electrical, chemical or other means that is rapid and effective, before being
shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast, or cut; or (b) by slaughtering in accordance with the
ritual requirements of the Jewish
Left versus Right Brain and Learning
Left versus Right Brain and Learning Each person has a governing hemisphere and
once learning becomes a technical process, the idyllic portion of the brain takes
charge of solving the issue at hand. There are two sides of the brain, which directly
influence learning and produce different ways of receiving, storing and responding to
information which ultimately affects our whole learningprocess. The cerebral cortexis
broken down into two hemispheres, left and right, with it being home to the functions
that make us human (Lucas, 2008). Human beings are expected to process
information based on their dominant hemisphere, even though the learning process
improves as a result of the two hemispheres functioning together. This means that we

Most significantly, the left brain is often described as being better at: language,
logic, critical thinking, numbers, and reasoning (Cherry, 2014). The positive effects
of the left sided brain learners are that they can easily and quickly evoke names
rather than appearances and express with very few gestures thus evolving much more
robust communication patterns. Left sided learners are also highly systematized and
and have great time management skills and enjoy creating lists to plot out plans day
to day. Left brainers are more likely to thrive in certain careers such as; computer
programmers, accounting firms, engineering plants and many more technical career
fields. Furthermore, the right brain impacts learning by concurrent hemispheric style,
which is deliberated as being global. The main focus of the right brain is visual,
which means they process information in an expressive way and like to show
creativity in their work (Cherry, 2014). Right brain learners prefer to learn by visually
seeing the whole picture first, and then eyeing at the specifics after that. They will
also develop information in a sequential format, starting with details leading up to a
intangible understanding of the skill at hand. This generally means it impacts
learning by beginning with the overall theory and then going on to details. Students
with a right brain dominance should integrate a number of hands on activities, which
will help with learning the assignment (Education Alliance,
Mexican War Justified
The Mexican War: Justified or Unjustified?
The Mexican War, or as it was called in Mexico, the American Invasion, was a very
controversial event. Before the Mexican War, people from the US began moving to
Texas. Texas was a disputed territory, as neither country agreed on who owned it.
Mexico said they owned, while the US said that they did. There are many reasons to
argue that the Mexican War should/should not have been started. The Mexican War
should not have been started because US settlers in Texas broke Mexican law, the US
invaded Mexico, and the countries had mixed up borders.
Before the Mexican War started, both the US and Mexico had mixed up borders.
Mexico thought that their border was at the Nueces, making Texas part of Mexico. ...

The combination of American troops at the Rio Grande...angered the Mexican
government. (Roden 317). Mexico thought soldiers were deep into Mexico, while
the US thought they were in Texas. The incident occurred in the disputed territory
(Roden 315). According to this, no country really owned Texas. Mexico had the
Nueces River as their border, while the US thought the Rio Grande to be the border
(Roden 315). The borders were mixed up, so no one country was in their own land,
nor could they know if they were invading another land. The Mexican government
had to protect their border, the Nueces (Velasco Marquez 327). This Information
shows: Mexico s border was at the Nueces. This was technically the real border. This
evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because the borders were
mixed up. The US should not have gone to war because of mixed up
How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream
Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice
cream formations.
Background Information
To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these
products make ice cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes
in. Just like when salt is spread on roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt
in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease. Since ice cream isn t just water,
salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The
salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and
salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two
Tbsp. of salt were used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the
control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten
Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can see, increasing the amount
of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream.
Conclusion
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice
cream formations. The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be
changed to produce greater ice cream height? The hypothesis was If the salt content
increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller formations.
The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and
10 Tbsp. The average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8
cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the
freezing point.

The War With Great Britain For Their Independence
The year is 1775 and the American Colonies are at war with Great Britain for their
Independence. The Continental Congress would soon sign an article into law,
which would authorize the construction of the Navy of the United Colonies of

apart for sick or hurt men, to be removed with their hammocks and bedding when
the surgeon shall advise the same to be necessary: and some of the crew shall be
appointed to attend to and serve them and to keep the place clean. The cooper shall

Essay about The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period (1600 1750) was mainly a period of newly discovered ideas.
From major new innovations in science, to vivid changes in geography, people were
exploring more of the world around them. The music of the baroque period was just
as extreme as the new changes. Newly recognized composers such as Bach, Handel,
Vivaldi, and Monteverdi were writing entirely new musical ideas and giving a chance
for new voices to be heard that were normally not thought of sounds. Their musical
legacy is still recognized today, and is a treasured discovery of outstanding
compositions being reiterated with every performance of them. Baroque which came
from the French word barroque and the Portuguese word barroco ... Show more

The first practice was just the style of vocal polyphony that was established in
writing by Zarlino. The second practice was just Claudio Monteverdi s way of
being adventurous. He said that the first practice was music that the text prevailed,
and that the second practice the text overpowered the music. In Monteverdi s
cruda amarilli he demonstrates the use of his second practice. Since Monteverdi
used this second practice Composers start to see instrumental music as a different
medium from vocal music and because of this they started to see them separately
as two components, now borrow vocal idioms in instrumental writing, and vice
versa. While trying to express the affections in man, they wanted to bring about
the arousal of emotions like excitement, broadness, being a hero, and wonder.
While doing this they also focused on a new idea of basso continuo which was a
concentration of the bass where the chord was structured on the bass, and later the
inversions became known as figured bass. With this new bass a new contrapuntal
system was used where the melodic lines now had to fit into the pattern of chords
set up by the continuo. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 1750) was a huge composer
during the baroque era. He started out as a principal organist and later went on to
write many organ and keyboard compositions. He was hired to write many hymns and
perform them in

makes their lives harder. The lawyer finds Bartleby s depression as a burden for
being bad for business and husband s depression as being bad for the reduction of

Honestly speaking, most of us do not pay attention to the history of our country

should be thought by the ones who understands it. Our failure is that we just let

whether they were harmony with organizations risk management rule or goals.
3. Opportunity is one factor that can explain why falsifying of financial statement is
occurring frequently it is common through weakness in the internal controls which
includes insufficient supervision and review by board of directors of some
organization, separation of duties, oversight and management approvals that are not
consistent with the organization goals as well as system controls. Pressure also is
another factor which relates from non realistic time frames and performance targets
arising from conspiracies between employees and third parties.
4. When there is lack of clarity or any unclear financial report that is most of the
times inconsistent like in the case of Enron, this is a clear indication of a red flag
some one especially auditors under strict supervision should consider taking action.
Investigations and analysis in fraud cases consistently show that red flags were
actually present and that there were in many instances recognized or upon
recognition they were never acted upon. When red flags are discovered suitable
action should be swift though, mistakes are most times errors types

Blood Brothers Evaluation
Last week we went to the Phoenix Theatre in Leister Square to see Blood Brothers.
When we walked into the theatre, I noticed that the proscenium arch stage was
slanted which put everything on the stage in perspective. There was no live
orchestra, and all the sound travelled easily throughout the room as it was quite a
small theatre. Before the play, I had been told that the story was based in Liverpool
and I had high expectations as it is one of the longest running musicals in the West

houses and other buildings on it. It looked as if the scene was set in the heart of
Liverpool. Due to the artwork on the programs, it was obvious that ... Show more

As well as lighting, sound was used very effectively to stage the story. For example
echoes were created in the alleyways, to make us think that Eddie s house was a
long way away. These echoes were also used to symbolise Eddie s loneliness. This
could show that there is emptiness in Eddie s heart that can only be filled by a
close friend or a brother. There was a bold use of sound especially in scary, dramatic
or important scenes. This added to the drama of the overall performance, it made the
audience feel a variety of emotions. In the scene when Mrs. Lyons tries to murder
Mrs. Johnston, the sound affects really emphasised how Mrs. Lyons was feeling and
her sheer madness. The use of surround sound made me feel like I was in the scene
and it made the whole performance much more realistic.
The use of props was used similarly to the set, to show the hierarchy of classes. In
the poorer part of Liverpool the chairs used were plain and old, however in the
richer part of town, the chairs used were smart and polished. During the financial
depression, FOR SALE signs were hung from the ceiling, to show the hard times. All
the signs seemed to be situated in the poorer part of town. The clothes line which
appeared as one of the first props on stage, demonstrated to the audience how many
children Mrs. Johnston had, due to all the baby grows hung up on the line. The
The Active Role of the Media in Influencing Our Opinion...
Introduction
The globalization of media has broken down the communication barriers between
countries and is now more readily available and accessible than ever before. This
paper examines how the media plays an active role in influencing our opinion on
global politics in regards to the Arab Spring and the new revolution making its way
through the Middle East and North Africa. It will also examine the theories of the
CNN effect and the Manufacturing consent and how these define the relationship
between governments and the news media. The United States involvement with the
Hollywood industry raises concerns about this relationship and emphasizes the
importance to recognize the role of the media in global politics.

This rise of the Arab Spring, a revolution demonstrating the unity of Arab s across
the Middle East and North Africa, forced Ben Ali to be exiled to Saudi Arabia after
several weeks of protests against his authoritarian rule that had led to declining
socioeconomic conditions as well as the corruption of the president s extended
family. As to why it is important to recognize the media role in shaping societies
view on global politics, the use of media in Tunisia by the Arab Spring exposed a
different side of Ben Ali; who was for most of his years ruling, a convenient if
uncomfortable ally for the west. For the first time the rest of the world were given an
insight to what Ben Ali s authoritarian regime had done to his country, the high
unemployment rate and injustices across the region were along with many other
issues of national interest that risked the stability of his regime in the long term.
The ever increasing ways to communicate news media has led to a constant live
streaming of events anywhere around the world. The phrase CNN effect
encapsulates the theory that new media has the power to provoke responses from its
audiences as well as the political elite, to events on a global scale specifically chosen
by the dominant news corporations. The Bosnian War of the early 1990 s was
contested by most powerful nation s states such as the United States as a civil war

For example, if some on had to listen to a song on a tape they would have to rewind

That s is what caused the invention of file systems. The file system closely
resembled a filing cabinet. Just like a filing cabinet Information was stored in files
or directories. These folders could be placed in other folders thus creating
hierarchy i.e. it eradicated a single directory or folder, and this was the basis for the

From Hacking to Cyber Terrorism Essay
From Hacking to Cyber Terrorism
Introduction
Information technology (IT) is evolving everyday and our day to day life is
becoming more and more dependent on it. In this twenty first century, we cannot
imagine ourselves without emails, online banking systems and health care systems
and without World Wide Web. In other words, evolution of IT has given a modern,
technologically advanced and convenient life to the society. But, over the time we
are also observing explosive growth in the darker side of the IT regarding hacking and
cyber crimes. Activities like unauthorized computer intrusion, denial of service

Some hackers are malicious, whilst others are merely naГЇve and do not cause any
real harm. Their motivations for hacking includes financial gain, revenge, ideology or
just plain mischief making 1. There are different categories of hackers algorithm
hacker, system hacker, password hacker etc.
What is cyber terrorism?
Cyber terrorism is a new class of threat to the world. This is one of the extreme
cases of hacking. Here, instead of physical terror efforts are focused upon attacking
information systems or resources especially using World Wide Web. Cyber
terrorists use computer systems and software to create violence and loss by
breaking security of target systems or by stealing/corrupting computer systems.
Unlike hackers, Cyber terrorists usually work under political or ideological
influence and always more harmful than a hacker. However it s always possible
that a hacker can turn into a cyber terrorist by providing his technical skills to
perform terrorist activities. Hacker himself can be a terrorist or can be hired by
terrorist organizations for hacking. In this case, we see overlaps between hacking and
cyber terrorism activities.
Cyber terrorists use Internet for a number of purposes, as described below.

his plan of action or simply guide him in the process of coming up with ideas for

1984 Essay Historical Perspective
1984 Essay Historical Perspective
Many historical events have occurred in the past years that are occurring today.
Similar events happened in the years of 1948, 1984, 2014. Dystopia has been
shown in many types of governments throughout the years of 1948 to 2014. Hitler
for example showed a dystopian type of government where hatred towards jews
and propaganda played a big role in his government. The book named 1984 written
by George Orwell, has a historical perspective. Orwell published the book in 1949.
This shows that Orwell predicted that propaganda will never end and will keep
surviving till the end of this world. Propaganda has also played role in today s
world. In all years of 1948, 1984, and 2014, propaganda hugely affected the people
while dystopia in governments were common and occurring.
In the year of 1948 many events happened that showed dystopia and propaganda in
the governments. During the year of 1948, The cold war was occurring and World
War II had ended a few years ago but the effects of it was still harming the
countries. After World War II, many countries were still rebuilding all their
damaged country. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were both bombed and had to be
completely rebuilt. The cold war which was going on in 1948 was a war where no
bullets were shot. It was all espionage between the Soviet Union and the United States
. The Soviet Union wanted to spread its ideals of communism the whole world while
the United States was trying to promote democracy to
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov s Scheherazade, Op. 30 Analysis
Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov s Scheherazade, Op. 35
At the Salzburg Festival in 2005, Valery Gergiev conducted the Vienna
Philharmonic Orchestra in its performance of Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov s
Scheherazade, Op. 35 (Classical Music db 1). He is a highly achieved, accomplished
and revered conductor and is considered to have attained a level of worldly power
perhaps unmatched by any living classical musician (qtd. by Alex Ross 1). All the
wile, this orchestra is considered to be one of the premium orchestras in the World
(Moderato 1). Between the two, a performance is created that instantly catches one s
attention with its gentle opening by trumpets, followed by a cello solo, and then the
flutes follow with their soft, fluttering sound that makes the listener gently sway with
the music. Images of a soft ocean breeze come to mind and its audience is
mesmerized.
Composition of this piece was the acclaimed Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky
Korsakov; he was born in Tikhvin, Russia, on March 6, 1844. From an early age and
through the influence of his family, Nikolai loved the sea (Britannica 1). One of his
inspirations was the works of Richard Wagner. According to goodreads, Scheherazade
is frequently used fairy tale and folk subjects in his music. In staying true to his
Russian heritage, he widely used Western methods to create mysterious compositions
with the elements of tempo, tunes and harmony (goodreads 1). His diligent study of
both counterpoint and fugue culminated with some
The Judicial Observation On The Australian Competition
And...
Executive summary
This essay will mainly analyze and discuss some relevant legal principles and terms
related to the judicial observation on legal position that the judge made in the
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Yazaki Corporation case.
Therefore, it is necessary to cover the following key issues: 1. Definition and
explanations of separate legal entity doctrine and corporate groups. 2. When will a
subsidiary company be recognized as an agent of its parent. 3. Under what
circumstances can corporate veil be ignored or lifted. Introduction
As mentioned in the prescribed text, the judge observes that there are cases where
a parent company manages its subsidiary and also where a subsidiary company
plays an agent role of its parent due to the parent s substantial control exercised.
Queries may then occur as in what is the exact relationship between a parent
company and its subsidiary, as well as what are the criteria that could determine that
relationship. Before clearly explaining these questions, a brief introduction of the
separate legal entity principal will be given, after which the importance of corporate
group where parent and subsidiary companies lie in will be illustrated, followed by a
thorough discussion of corporate veil. In the end, this essay will cover when to lift
the corporate veil under both Common law and Corporation Acts 2001, mainly
regarding some determining factors such as sham and fraud, as well as the contents in
The Four Stages Of The Business Cycle
The four stages of the business cycle are complex phases that our economy
undergoes. To grasp the concept of the stages, you must first be familiarized with the
business cycle itself. The business cycle is the alternating periods of growth and
decline. Or to be more intricate, The business cycle is the periodic but irregular up
and down movement in economic activity, measured by fluctuations in real gross
domestic product (GDP) and other macroeconomic variables, (Inc.com). A business
cycleis comprised of four stages: recovery, peak, recession, and trough.
In the recovery, the economy is growing. It is commonly indicated by a bull
market. The recovery is the increase in the rate of economic activity established by
a moderate to low unemployment percentage, towering development, and swelling
prices. The next phase of the business cycle is the peak. The peak is the most
desired stage for it is the superior point of the cycle. During this stage, the increased
consumer confidence translates into higher levels of business activity. The peak is,
When the economy is overheated, and is in a state of irrational exuberance,
(Inc.com) In other words, the peak is the point at which the economy is as robust as
it can get. Following the peak in the business cycle is the recession. The recession is
when the economy is on the decline and jobs are being lost, unemployment rates
soars, and production is slowing. It identifies the end of a growth interval in the
business cycle. Often,
Negative Effects Of Stress
According to a poll, about one in every four Americans (about sixty million people)
have claimed to have encountered some stress this past month (Whyte n.p.).
Sometimes, the intensity of stress causes anxiety or frustration. Which is why for
the most part, stress is taken as a negative impact on an individual. Whether that
stress comes from school, money, environment, work or all of them, everyone
walks the same path of stress sometimes without even realizing it. Although many
people perceive stress in a negative way, there s some surprising benefits of stress
that we are not aware of. It all comes down to the basic element of what stress is.
Stress is an anticipated feeling someone gets when they get into any trouble or
difficulty. The human body reacts physically to any stressor that comes across. For
example, our body has two important systems that play a role sympathetic nervous
systemand parasympathetic system. The parasympathetic system is known as a rest
and digest response in which hormones send adrenaline and other transmitters to your
body. On the other hand, the sympathetic nervous systemis known as a fight or flight
response in which it uses that adrenaline in order to react quickly. Therefore, both
these symptoms react to any stressor that can prepare the human body for anything
that might come across, physically and mentally. (Grant n.p.) Stress can benefit us in
many ways. For one, it can help humans increase their cognitive learning and

actions on him? This instance commonly takes place at the Guantanamo Bay
detention camp, or GTMO ( Gitmo ). Only 6 of the 166 current detainees have been
formally charged, which leaves the possibility that over 96% of the prisoners there
are innocent. In fact, more men have died at Guantanamo than have ever been
convicted. GTMO s existence is a controversial topic because of the treatment of
detainees, various Supreme Court rulings, and the lasting impact on people who are
lucky enough to be released. The only way to ensure that guiltless people are not both
physically and mentally traumatized at Guantanamo Bay is to cease its

The Supreme Court ruled that if someone is detained by the American government,
then they are entitled to basic constitutional rights, which does not allow the
detainment of a person before bringing them before a court or a judge. Since this
injustice is taking place in Guantanamo, innocent men are being placed there.
Everyone being taken to GTMO is also protected from cruel and unusual
punishment regardless of what they have been accused of. Therefore, the CIA s use
of various torture methods and brutal interrogations are not acceptable by law.

Biography Of Julius Robert Oppenheimer, An Artist And...
Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born April 22, 1904 to Ella Friedman, an artist
and Julius Oppenheimer, a wealthy German textile merchant in New York City,
New York. As a child Robert was interested in geology and was said to have even
contacted locally famous geologist to discuss the rock formations he observed in
Central Park. At the age of 17 Oppenheimer began attending Harvard, a prestigious
and well known private University. He graduated Harvard with a major in Chemistry
in May of 1925. Later that year he enrolled at Cambridge University in England to
study physics thus beginning his atomic research in the Cavendish Laboratory under
J.J. Thomson.
Then at the age of 22 he was invited to team up with Max Born at Gottingen
University in Germany. There he developed the Born Oppenheimer Method. This
method was an important addition to the Quantum Molecular Theory. Quantum
theory is the origin of modern physics that explains the behavior and nature of
matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic plane. He left Gottingen in 1927
with his PhD and a mark in the world of Quantum theory and Theoretical physics.
A year later Robert began as an associate professor at Berkley while having a joint
appointment at the California Institute of Technology, commuting between the two
for the next 13 years. While at Berkley Oppenheimer was the first to write papers of
the astronomical examination of collapsed stars, a phenomenon we know now as

Inaccuracy In The Soul Surfer

attack. Through her faith and family she never loses her determination to get back
on her board and return to competitive surfing. She has touched the lives of so many
people with her charitable efforts, message, and her overall strength. She has become
an inspiration for everyone around the world. Bethany shares her life story in the
movie Soul Surfer, directed by Sean McNamara with performances by AnnaSophia
Robb, Helen Hunt, and Carrie Underwood. The movie follows the life of Bethany
Hamilton, a thirteen year old competitive surfer in Kauai, Hawaii. Even though
Soul Surfer is based on a true story, the movie itself is only semi accurate, as
demonstrated by character, plot, and special effects. Although Soul Surfer is mostly
accurate, there are some character inaccuracies when compared to real life. One
example of character inaccuracy is present when Bethany first gets home from the
hospital. In the movie Bethany arrives home after her recovery from the hospital
and tries to help make sandwiches with her family like she usually use to do. She
attempts to cut the tomatoes only for them to fall on the floor, Bethany s brother
seeing her struggle offers to do them instead (Soul Surfer). In actuality this wasn t the
first thing she did when she got home. The real Bethany Hamilton however has

Introduction Of Assembly Line Balancing
1. Introduction
Assembly line balancing (ALB) issue was initially presented by Bryton and the
principal exploratory study was distributed by Salveson. The mechanical production
system adjusting issue comprises of appointing undertakings to a requested grouping
of stations such that the priority relations among the errands are fulfilled and some
execution measure is enhanced. Because of computational many sided quality of the

variant of the issue, the one including no priority relations among assignments is a
receptacle pressing issue which is NP hard in the solid sense. Faaland said that the
current systems endeavoring to locate the ideal arrangement have a multifaceted
nature of no less than 2 power on (N). Henceforth, creating heuristic methods to take

The ideal looking for calculations must be utilized to assess the execution of the

Media Science And The Abortion Debate
Abortion has always been a controversial topic whether abortion should be legalized
or not for a quite some time. It has sparked numerous debates in many countries
around the world. In most countries, abortion is legalized, yet however, there are
some countries which don t allow women to have abortions. Additionally, if done, the
women will be punished by the law severely. In my belief, I don t think abortion
should be banned, even though it s not healthy for women and their development
(reproductive wise). The consequences and results coming from not allowing
abortion would lead to many women not being able to take care of her child, and
more importantly, not giving her children a normal and healthy life. In this situation,
if the government does not allow abortion, then the children of these women children
might end up becoming socially inept, leading to depression or certain mental

Skydiving History and Today Essay
The first ideas of freefall did not consider the evolution of human body flight that
skydiving has become today. In fact, Leonardo Da Vinci, who we now consider the
Father of the Parachute, designed the first conceivable sketch of a parachute. His
original idea was to build a device to rescue people from burning buildings, not
knowing what his impact may be on the sport six centuries later.
Andre Jacques Garnerin is recorded to make the first exhibition jump in Paris from a
balloon on October 27,1797. However, sport parachuting began with the first
recorded freefall in 1914 by a woman named Georgia (Tiny) Broadwick. Until this
time, a static line was used to deploy parachutes. Broadwick was giving the ... Show

When both forces reach equilibrium, the jumper has reached terminal velocity.
Roughly ten seconds after exiting the aircraft, the skydiver reaches 120 mph
(terminal velocity), considering he is falling in the Box Man position. If the skydiver
changes his orientation to a sitting, head down, standing, or any other position, his
terminal velocity will adjust accordingly. After parachute deployment, the surface
area is greatly increased and the terminal velocity is at its slowest airspeed. Applying
these freefall concepts, skydivers have evolved into being able to fly their bodies,
some in several orientations throughout the single sixty second jump.
The first World Parachuting Championships were held in Yugoslavia in 1951. Five
European countries were attended, and style and accuracy were the only events
represented at the time. Since 1954 the championships have occurred every two
years. The countries participating have vastly increased since the first five, to forty
two represented in 2002. The only initial team event was accuracy at the fourth
World meet in 1958. The team jumpers exited from 4,000 feet with a 15 23 second
parachute opening delay. This means that the skydiver had to open his parachute in
between 15 and 23 seconds from clearing the aircraft. This type of delay is unheard
of in skydiving today, considering the slow opening of parachutes with advanced
technology. Every
Nu Jazz And Jazz Dance
Classifying report
By Bianca Wyatt
Dance was introduced by king Louis, he came up with the idea of dance at a
wedding where one of the very first dances the broccoli dance was invented, and by
the the 1700s the most popular dance was ballet. Dance originated 2500 years from
today, from people that believed in a magic ritual which broke the spell which
apparently on a bewitched king. Many contemporary dances can go back to historical,
traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances.
Jazz:
Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz
originate from the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that
African and European music is a union of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and
feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance performers prefer to wear a leotard
and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to help with
techniques. Most of the time if people aren t comfortable with wearing tight
clothes they just wear jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that
they are a little bit tighter, and jazz pants come in a variety of different sizes so
they are very similar to sweatpants. The music styles in jazz can be the style of
electronic, soul and mostly free improvisation. All of the above are from the genre
Nu Jazz .

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Monitoring Volcanoes
What are the cons of monitoring earthquakes and volcanoes? There are many pros
when it comes to monitoring earthquakes and volcanoes. But with many pros, come
many cons. I m going to talk to you about the cons. Scientists need to know when
earthquakes are going happen and when volcanoes are going to erupt, but they cannot
precisely predict when they are going to occur. That will lead to some problems.
Spontaneously erupting/shaking is one problem. No matter what scientists
predictions read, natural disasters can happen at any moment. If a volcanologist or
scientist has a station near the main vent, and the volcano erupts, then there is no
way that they are making it down in time to flee the area. For example, since 1980

As a sixth grader, I had what Dweck refers to as a fixed mindset. In her TED Talk
The Power of Yet, Dweck states, if you get a failing grade, you think, I m nothing, I
m nowhere . In other words, Dweck believes that students that do not receive the
grade they want, immediately consider themselves failures. The concept of failure is
prominent in an excerpt from On Writing, by Stephen King, a popular writer from
Maine. King states, Now that I was away from the administrative offices of Lisbon
High, I felt able to muster a little honesty. I told Mr. Gould that I didn t know much
about sports . In making this statement, King leads us to believe that he is afraid of
failing. Similar to Dweck s idea of fixed mindset, King presents a fixed mindset
towards his ability to write about sports. King is afraid of failure and is, therefore,
presenting a fixed mindset towards his writing capabilities.
Even as an 11 year old in middle school, I struggled with the idea of failing, and I
believe that is why I was so afraid to have my narrative critiqued. I could not accept
failure.

The Happiest Refugee Summary
Ahn had not left this oppressive environment, he would have grown up in extreme
poverty and would be a very different person due to the trauma that poverty causes.
Refugees are here to escape poverty and persecution; because they have
experienced severe trauma, they are at a much higher risk of psychiatric illness
than the general population. I believe that these statistics can be reduced if our
negative attitude towards marginalized groups changes. Because of the media and
government induced stereotypes, Australians often show disdain towards refugees.
This inhibits their adjustment to Australian society and creates further division
among us. The Happiest Refugee is a valuable resource in the fight against racism
because it shows that refugees share our values, embrace our culture and are eager
to contribute to Australian society, and I strongly support it s inclusion in the
Rochedale State High School English program. One of the reasons why I found
The Happiest Refugee to be enjoyable and impactful is the use of various aesthetic
devices; including vivid imagery and humour. Ahn does not simply tell his story;
instead, he uses descriptive and emotive language to paint a picture in the reader s
mind. This allows us to imagine that we were there and connect with the situation
emotionally. An example of imagery in this autobiography is when Ahn shows us
what it is like to be a boat person . He describes his traumatic experience at sea by
using language such as The sky

whereabouts were always known, but the death of the star is still a mystery. Even
the time of her death is unknown. There is no solid evidence what time she died.
At 11 p.m August 4, Monroe was supposedly found dead by her publicist Arthur
Jacobs. But Marilyn s doctor wasn t called to the house until 3:40 a.m, 10 minutes
after she was discovered at 3:30 a.m by her housekeeper (Newton 245). When the
found Monroe she was lying face down, naked on her bed with her phone in her
hand ( Marilyn Monroe is Found Dead ). Although it is not known what she talked

system ( Marilyn Monroe ). Some of those sedatives being chloral hydrate and

this. Marilyn had overdosed on multiple occasions before and had to be
resuscitated a few times ( The death of Marilyn Monroe ). So, people really weren t
taken back by the fact she overdosed. But the actual cause of her death is still
Comparing Eisenstein And Vertov And Two Filmmakers
And...
Eisenstein and Vertov are two filmmakers/theorists that made films to illustrate and
emphasize their film theories. One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a
dialectic approach to create conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark
active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another theory from Eisenstein is the
methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights the most is the
intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the
audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov theories
states that film is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the
movement is required to create montage and bring shots together in harmony. Another
theory from Vertov emphasizes the cameraeye. He explains how the camera can show
the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary Eisenstein
demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and
The Battleship Potemkin(1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life
and society. In comparison Vertov displays his theories of movement to create
montage and the importance of the camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera
(1929) to illustrate cinema as a whole and show the power of the camera eye. To
conclude, both Eisenstein and Vertov are able to effectively display their theories in
film. Eisenstein theory about creating conflict between shots is explicitly illustrated

Essay on Use of Satire in Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s...
Effective Use of Satire in Gulliver s Travels
Jonathan Swift s story, Gulliver s Travels, is a very clever story. It recounts the
fictitious journey of a fictitious man named Lemuel Gulliver, and his travels to the
fantasy lands of Lilliput, Brobdinag, Laputa, and Houyhnhmn land. When one first
reads his accounts in each of these lands, one may believe that they are reading
humorous accounts of fairy tale like lands that are intended to amuse children. When
one reads this story in the light of it being a satire, the stories are still humorous, but
one realizes that Swift was making a public statement about the affairs of England
and of the human race as a whole.

These people take all of his possessions for inspection, for they are in awe and fear
of his great size. They feed him, and soon untie him but still keep him in confinement.
While in his confinement, he is visited by the emperor who likes Gulliver. Gulliver
learns there language and the customs of the people of Lilliput. In this book Swift, by
describing the ludicrous system that Lilliput s government fashions in, is satirizing
the English system of governing. He uses parallels that seem absurd at first glance but
make more senses when looked at carefully.
When Gulliver reaches the land of Brobdinag, he finds himself in the exact
opposite situation that he was in when in Lilliput. In Brobdinag, it is Gulliver who
is the tiny person, and the inhabitants of that land who appear to be giants. Gulliver
expects these giants to be monsters , but soon finds that they are a peaceful race of
people, who live in a sort of peace loving land. Swift was playing on all people s fear
of being frightened by those who appear different looking or more powerful.
In recounting third journey, Gulliver visits the land of Laputa. The stories that are
contained within are a satire on specific figures and policies of the British
government of the period in which Swift lived. This is probably, out of all of the
parts of this story that are commonly read today, the least widely read. This is
because most people today do not know of

A clear, colorless liquid was separated using fractional distillation. The identity of
this unknown liquid was found by the characteristic properties of flammability,
density, sugar solubility, boiling point, and odor. The liquid ended up being
flammable, and the density was below the average 0.79 g/cm3. Instead, we found
0.69 g/cm3. For the sugar solubility, it was found to be insoluble. The boiling was
found to be higher than the average is 57C. We found the boiling point to be 66C.
Lastly, the odor was found to be like nail polish remover, which is similar to or
known as Acetone. Therefore, our first liquid was found to be Acetone.

American Slaves Vs Serfs
Russian serfs, or peasants who were legally bound to remain on their land, had a
huge impact on Russia s economy, politics, and on the world that we know today.
Serfdom became, more than it had ever before been, the basis of the entire social
order. (Blum, 3 12) American slaves, who were legally owned by whomever bought
them, were greatly similar to those of serfs and also had a huge impact on the world
today. Some people think that slaves and serfs are the same, but on the contrary, they
are not the same, due to environmental factors, historical events, economic
circumstances, etc... Because slaves and serfs worked the land, and most of Russia
and America were primarily agricultural, laborers were essential to the basic order of

In their society and circumstances both slaves and serfs were the bottom of the
social class. They were unfairly treated, and punished if they did something wrong.

was exercised without restraint... (Melbourne) Both also worked long hours and
needed to do whatever their owner or master told them to do. If they had children,
they automatically became either slaves or serfs. When the factory industry in
Russia was introduced and domestic and foreign trade increased, the area and
population of Russia also increased, making landowners wanting to have more land,
and therefore needing more serfs. (Blum, 3 12) The serfdom population of Russia
was over one third of its total population.

The implementation of this strategy is so simple. If consumers purchase over 25
rolls of film at once, Kodak give them a coupon that they can print 5 rolls of film
for free at the next time visit. At least 13% of each household can print 5 rolls of
film for free, so Kodak should bear the expenses. It means that Kodak s variable
cost increases and net profit decreases. In the short run Kodak ma y lose some
profit; however, in the long run, I m sure that it could reinforce the qua ntity of
consumers who want to purchase Kodak s products. In addition, only Kodak has
capabilities to do this strategy, because Kodak is exclusive company in film
market which has the highest profit (gross) margin. If this strategy makes a great
success, Kodak s competitors may reduce the price. They has lower profit margin
even now, so it means a shortcut to get bankrupt for them. You can find other real

The Impact Of Telecommunication Technology On Virtual...
Impact of Telecommunication Technologies on Virtual Universities
Shena D. Sterling
IX540: Research Methods for Education and Instructional Technology
Professor Kimberly Case
December 13, 2014
Introduction
Virtual Universities are on the rise and are a legitimate threat to replace the traditional
University. The most prominent reason for the current explosion in student
enrollment in the virtual universities, are advancements in telecommunications
technologies. This paper presents a methodology for quantitatively testing the
relationship between growth in telecommunications technologies, and parallel growth
in student enrollment in Category 1, Title IV 2yr and 4yr degree granting distance
education programs recognized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As advancements in telecommunications technologies go forward the costs associated
with such technologies have decreased while the benefits increased. New cutting
edge technologies are always priced at a premium when they are introduced into the
market. As competitors enter the market the cost of the technology gradually declines
and demand rises following the law of demand.
In this project one of the major questions that must be answered is whether the value
of low cost distance education programs, supported by new and innovative
telecommunication technologies, is greater than the value of traditional educational
programs costing much more. The researcher proposes that the explosive growth in
student enrollment in on line programs answer this question affirmatively. The
researcher will use quantitative analysis to support the null hypothesis identified in
the document.
Within the context of this quasi experimental study the researcher has carefully
investigated the role advancements in telecommunications technologies have played
in the establishment and growth of virtual universities in the U.S., the impact
telecommunications technologies have had on Title IV, Post Secondary 2yr and 4yr
degree granting colleges and universities, how the explosive growth in on line student
enrollment has globally
Body Cameras For Police Could Be One Smart-Step
Moreover, to stop the crime and police brutality, body cameras would not be a bad
idea if they were to be taken a step forward. Nancy La Vigne writer of Body
Cameras for Police Could Be One Smart Step talks about supervisors monitoring
the cameras in case an altercation were to happen (6). Nancy also talks about body
cameras invading constitutional rights of the citizens. Vigne writes, Body cameras
will capture not just an officers actions, but also those of the citizens with whom
they interact or even individuals walking by or in the background (Vigne). Nancy s
point is that with the body cameras and civilians being recorded, should the citizens
know they are being recorded. Another solution for the body cameras to be able to
work would be for the cops to have no access to the cameras.
Observing The Impact Of Oil Prices
Introduction In the last six months of 2014 the price of crude oil experienced a
dramatic decline from over $100 per barrel to around $50 per barrel. Further oil
price declines throughout 2015 and into 2016 saw oil plunge to less than $30 per
barrel. This drastic reduction in price hurt the profit margins of oil extraction
companies, leading to several phases of reduction in operating activity and
investment, as well as sizeable employee layoffs. According to Barrionuevo
(2016:2), approximately 50% of the jobs in the greater Houston area are energy
related. Thus, as the oil price plummeted, Houston experienced a significant loss of
jobs, many of which were highly paid, eventually resulting in a decrease in personal
income. Just as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With employees typically living fairly close to their employer, employment changes
in one particular industry tend to have a disproportionate effect on one geographic
portion of Houston s housing market. The upstream oil and gas extraction industry is
concentrated in the western portion of Houston, with the greatest concentration lying
in the Energy Corridor, shown by the yellow area in Figure 1. Other industry
concentrations include the largest global concentration of medical research and
hospitals, the Medical Center, on the south side of downtown Houston, as well as an
aerospace concentration near NASA s Johnson Space Center. Research and Analysis
Methodology An iterative approach was taken for the research. An initial literature
search uncovered historical employment and traditional housing market metrics in
the Greater Houston Partnership data archives. It also provided insights into
housing elasticity theories. This literature search narrowed further research to the
variables needed to calculate price and income elasticity. This necessitated
contacting realtors and university professors to find and access appropriate
databases. These individuals provided annual data from the Houston Association of
Realtors archives (home sales and lease data) and a link to the Federal Reserve Bank
of Dallas (Houston real wages) as well as the U.S. Department of Commerce (oil and
gas industry personal income). Where possible, data from

This Topic is an interesting one because many throughout the country are divided
on the topic of the Prime Minister and whether or not they hold too much power
within their role. With past allegations of corruption, many are blinded by the true

Thesis: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the
Prime Minister of Canada and evaluate his or her powers to identify whether or not

Comparing Women In Fairy Tales And A Cinderella Story
While classic fairy tales give a solid baseline on morals, it also bases itself in the
patriarchal concepts by placing women as passive figures that need to be saved by
a man and that a girl s wildest dreams can be fulfilled with marriage. These tales
instruct that marriage is the happily ever after women are satisfied with; this may
have been satisfactory during those time periods where women typically were not
allowed by society to carry much agency, but as women change, so too should their
stories.
With the rise of female power in the past century, there is a need for fairy tale
adaptations that fit the standards of modern women. An example of a tale that has
recently been adapted a dozen times over is the story of Cinderella. One adaptation ...

Review Of show And Tell By Scott Mccloud
The Importance of Visuals in Communication There are many different ways to tell
a story, but which way is the best? As mentioned by Scott McCloud, young kids
read books with many pictures, and as they develop into adults, they read books
with less and less pictures, but is this the best way to read stories? There is a better
method to read a story, and that method is through comics. In McCloud s graphic
essay Show and Tell, McCloud proves that through the use of both writing and
illustrations in comics, comics are the best form of literature to convey a story. By
proving this, McCloud demonstrates how visual representation is very important
while conveying a message, as it provides a bigger range of emotionand expression.
As humans, we like creativity and emotions and thus, visual representation in
communication is important in our society. In Scott McCloud s graphic essay,
Show and Tell, he explains how words and images work together in the form of
comics to convey a message. An example where he demonstrates this is during the
first 16 slides. Without the use of images, the reader would not know what s going
on because the boy is not specific in his dialogue. Without the use of words, the
reader would have no context about what s going on in the pictures. A great
analogy that McCloud uses on page 745 is that words and images are like dancers.
He explains how both partners work together and support each other s strengths so
that they can be presented well as a
Othello The Moor Of Venice Essay
Othello, the Moor of Venice The story of Othello, the Moor of Venice was written
by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare got the idea of Othello from a writer by the
name of Giraldi Cinthio. The original story, was entitled, Of Unfaithfulness of
Husbands and Wives. In the original story Disdemona was beaten to death with a
stocking full of sand, which is quite a bit different from Shakespeare s Othello,
tragedy still befalls Desdemona. (Gioia) The story was believed to have been written

explains to Brabantio that he has more urgent matters to attend at the moment, so
prison will have to wait. The Duke and senators are waiting for Othello to meet
with them on war matters. Brabantio thinks this is an excellent opportunity to
accuse Othello of his crimes. What Brabantio does not expect is for Desdemona to
be there waiting on Othello so she can go off to war with him. She confesses to her
father and the Duke that she is in fact in love with the Moor. Brabantio was in
shock and could not believe what his daughter was doing to him. The Duke does
allow her to go, but she must be accompanied by Iago because Othello has to leave
at once. Iago s second part of the plan is put in motion when he schemes to make
Othello think that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. He plans to take out
both of his enemies at the same time with a lie. (Shakespeare, Othello, the Moor of
Venice) With news that a storm has destroyed an enemy ship, Desdemona fears the
worse for Othello. She fears he has died in the storm, and Cassio comes in to
confirm her fears that his ship cannot be located. With fear in her mind she goes to

What Is Literacy Essay.pdf

  • 1. What Is Literacy Essay Crafting an essay on the concept of literacy is both a challenging and rewarding task. The difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the subject matter but also in the necessity to navigate through the vast and multifaceted dimensions of literacy itself. Literacy extends far beyond the ability to read and write; it encompasses a myriad of skills, contexts, and cultural nuances. One of the challenges is defining the boundaries of literacy. It requires a careful examination of the historical, cultural, and societal aspects that shape our understanding of what it means to be literate. The writer must delve into the evolution of literacy over time, exploring how it has transformed from a basic skill to a dynamic and indispensable tool in the contemporary world. Moreover, addressing the various forms of literacy, such as digital literacy, media literacy, and information literacy, adds layers of complexity. Each form requires a nuanced analysis, demanding an in-depth exploration of how these literacies interact with one another and influence individuals and societies. Additionally, writing a comprehensive essay on literacy involves integrating theoretical perspectives and academic research. This requires sifting through a vast body of literature, from classic works on literacy to cutting-edge research in the field. The ability to synthesize diverse ideas and present a cohesive narrative is crucial in constructing a compelling essay. Furthermore, considering the interdisciplinary nature of literacy, the writer must draw from fields such as education, linguistics, sociology, and psychology. Balancing these perspectives while maintaining clarity and coherence in the essay is no small feat. The challenge intensifies when one attempts to engage the reader emotionally and intellectually. Connecting with the audience requires not only a profound understanding of the topic but also effective communication skills. Striking the right balance between information, analysis, and personal engagement can be a delicate task. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of literacy is a formidable undertaking. It demands a deep dive into historical contexts, a thorough exploration of various literacies, a synthesis of academic research, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Despite the challenges, the process is a valuable opportunity to deepen one's own literacy skills while contributing to the ongoing discourse on this multifaceted and evolving concept. • 2. The Use Of Automatic Real Time Tracking And Augmented 3d... The interest to detect and track the endovascular devices during X ray guided interventional procedures spans over a decade. The recent developments in real time detection, tracking, visualization over an augmented reality with multi modality fusion has transformed the surgical environment. However, it s quite challenging to combine robustness of automatic real time tracking and augmented 3D visualization. In addition, various endovascular procedures use different devices and tracking requirements (tip or whole catheter). The important parameters that affect the detection and tracking can be classified in to 3 broad categories; endovascular devices, projection geometry and motion. At first, the detection of various shapes and radio opaque devices is a challenge. Secondly, the detection is challenged by image magnification and image geometry by various projections (Cranio caudal tilt). Thirdly, and importantly real time tracking challenged by the patient motion and the deformation of the vessel. Over the years, many of these challenges were addressed with success limited to devices. However, the potential clinical benefits; to deploy the fenestrated stent grafts accurately without blocking branches of abdominal Aorta (renal), to reduce contrast medium injected that might reduce the risk of renal pathologies, to reduce the radiation exposure to the patient, personal and the environmental, sustains the research interest. In addition, a successfully registered 3D
  • 3. Cad Cam Research Paper CAD CAM stands for computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and it is used by dentists and dental laboratories to provide patients with milled ceramic crowns, bridges, and etc. Many times dental CAD/CAM is used to fabricate abutments for dental implants, used to replace missing teeth. The dental CAD/CAM technology have improved over the years. Today dental restorations are better fitting because of CAD/CAM. They are also more durable and more natural looking (multi colored and translucent, similar to natural teeth) than previously machined restorations. Dental CAD/CAM technology can be used in dental offices or in dental laboratories. According to Vladimir Pavlov, CAD/CAM specialist at Dani Dental Studio, the CAD/CAM
  • 4. The Celebration Of Womanhood By Maya Angelou The Celebration of Womanhood Women s beauty has been one of the favorite subjects of many literary works. Many genius authors have admired women s physical beauty according to their imaginations. However, their literary works, the male dominated society and the female community have also served as accomplices in creating notion about the beauty of women. In our society, it is believed that a woman should have fair skin, hourglass figure and long hair to attain the title of a beautiful woman . This notion has degraded the stature of the entire female community instead of elevating it. The revolutionary poet, Maya Angelou, tried to break this notion by writing a poem to give tribute to an average looking woman who can become trendsetter and leader in her field of interest despite of not having fair skin and the hourglass figure. In the poem Phenomenal Woman , the author urges women to be proud of them and their gender and to celebrate the womanhood instead of being ashamed of it. Maya Angelou has been regarded as an acclaimed poet whose literary works focus on her real life experiences (1). Phenomenal Woman falls into the category of poems based on the real life experiences and the human truth. The author narrates the poem as the first person which reflects how audacious personality Maya was. Being a modernist writer, Maya Angelou uses imagery to compare her physical attributes such as her smile, gesture to the worldly objects. The use of symbolism is also
  • 5. Aseptic Technique And Culturing Bacteria MATERIAL and METHODS: Aseptic Technique and Culturing Microbes(1) experiment was followed as stated in the lab manual from Clinical Microbiology Class C 453. Aseptic technique was initiated at the beginning of each experiment. Starting by cleansing the work surface with disinfected wipes to prevent cross contamination each time. Utilizing the gloves and personal protective equipment assisted in maintaining a pure culture during the series of experiments. The first step, was to grow the yeast and bacteria cultures. The materials used for the Aseptic Technique Experiment(1) were: test tuberack, 5 mL nutrient broth tubes, pipettes, a lit tea light, Fleischmen s rapid yeast pack, E. Coli tablet and the S. epidermidis tablet. Started by activating the yeast, by placing the content of Fleischmen s yeast bag in a disposable cup. Then added approximately 60 mL of warm tap water into the disposable cup. To assist in mixing the two items, I carefully swirled the cup. Once the mixture was combined, it then was left alone for around 10 minutes or until it was frothy. Each nutrient broth tube was labeled with the correct name of the microorganism that was cultured in that tube and dated. The S. epidermidis was selected first, to be cultured. Taking one of the 5mL nutrient broth tube in one hand, the pipette in other hand. The cap was removed with the same hand that had the pipette. Utilizing a lit tea light, like a bunsen burner, I flamed the mouth of the nutrient
  • 6. Pigs Slaughter And The Slaughter Of All Livestock Hog slaughter and the slaughter of all livestock has been a controversial topic over the last few years. With many organizations out there against animal agriculture such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) there has been a constant push to find the most humane act of livestockharvest as possible while still maintaining excellent meat quality. Currently, there are four acceptable methods: chemical (Carbon Dioxide CO2), mechanical (captive bolt), mechanical (gunshot), and electrical (electrical current). Currently, all four methods are approved for the slaughter of swine. None, however, are ideal and all have advantages and disadvantages in pork quality effects which leaves it up for discussion of which is the best system to use. According to the Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act of 1978, no method of slaughtering or handling in connection with slaughtering shall be deemed to comply with the public policy of the United States unless it is humane. Either of the following two methods of slaughtering and handling are hereby found to be humane: (a) in the case of cattle, calves, horses, mules, sheep, swine, and other livestock, all animals are rendered insensible to pain by a single blow or gunshot or an electrical, chemical or other means that is rapid and effective, before being shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast, or cut; or (b) by slaughtering in accordance with the ritual requirements of the Jewish
  • 7. Left versus Right Brain and Learning Left versus Right Brain and Learning Each person has a governing hemisphere and once learning becomes a technical process, the idyllic portion of the brain takes charge of solving the issue at hand. There are two sides of the brain, which directly influence learning and produce different ways of receiving, storing and responding to information which ultimately affects our whole learningprocess. The cerebral cortexis broken down into two hemispheres, left and right, with it being home to the functions that make us human (Lucas, 2008). Human beings are expected to process information based on their dominant hemisphere, even though the learning process improves as a result of the two hemispheres functioning together. This means that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most significantly, the left brain is often described as being better at: language, logic, critical thinking, numbers, and reasoning (Cherry, 2014). The positive effects of the left sided brain learners are that they can easily and quickly evoke names rather than appearances and express with very few gestures thus evolving much more robust communication patterns. Left sided learners are also highly systematized and and have great time management skills and enjoy creating lists to plot out plans day to day. Left brainers are more likely to thrive in certain careers such as; computer programmers, accounting firms, engineering plants and many more technical career fields. Furthermore, the right brain impacts learning by concurrent hemispheric style, which is deliberated as being global. The main focus of the right brain is visual, which means they process information in an expressive way and like to show creativity in their work (Cherry, 2014). Right brain learners prefer to learn by visually seeing the whole picture first, and then eyeing at the specifics after that. They will also develop information in a sequential format, starting with details leading up to a intangible understanding of the skill at hand. This generally means it impacts learning by beginning with the overall theory and then going on to details. Students with a right brain dominance should integrate a number of hands on activities, which will help with learning the assignment (Education Alliance,
  • 8. Mexican War Justified The Mexican War: Justified or Unjustified? The Mexican War, or as it was called in Mexico, the American Invasion, was a very controversial event. Before the Mexican War, people from the US began moving to Texas. Texas was a disputed territory, as neither country agreed on who owned it. Mexico said they owned, while the US said that they did. There are many reasons to argue that the Mexican War should/should not have been started. The Mexican War should not have been started because US settlers in Texas broke Mexican law, the US invaded Mexico, and the countries had mixed up borders. Before the Mexican War started, both the US and Mexico had mixed up borders. Mexico thought that their border was at the Nueces, making Texas part of Mexico. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The combination of American troops at the Rio Grande...angered the Mexican government. (Roden 317). Mexico thought soldiers were deep into Mexico, while the US thought they were in Texas. The incident occurred in the disputed territory (Roden 315). According to this, no country really owned Texas. Mexico had the Nueces River as their border, while the US thought the Rio Grande to be the border (Roden 315). The borders were mixed up, so no one country was in their own land, nor could they know if they were invading another land. The Mexican government had to protect their border, the Nueces (Velasco Marquez 327). This Information shows: Mexico s border was at the Nueces. This was technically the real border. This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because the borders were mixed up. The US should not have gone to war because of mixed up
  • 9. How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream? Purpose The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. Background Information To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to decrease. Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing the ice and salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt were used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used, the height resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8 cm. As one can see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream. Conclusion The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream formations. The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater ice cream height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will yield taller formations. The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The principle guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point. Works Cited Singularity. From major new innovations in science, to vivid changes in geography, people were exploring more of the world around them. The music of the baroque period was just as extreme as the new changes. Newly recognized composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Monteverdi were writing entirely new musical ideas and giving a chance for new voices to be heard that were normally not thought of sounds. Their musical legacy is still recognized today, and is a treasured discovery of outstanding compositions being reiterated with every performance of them. The first practice was just the style of vocal polyphony that was established in writing by Zarlino. The second practice was just Claudio Monteverdi s way of being adventurous. He said that the first practice was music that the text prevailed, and that the second practice the text overpowered the music. In Monteverdi s cruda amarilli he demonstrates the use of his second practice. Since Monteverdi used this second practice Composers start to see instrumental music as a different medium from vocal music and because of this they started to see them separately as two components, now borrow vocal idioms in instrumental writing, and vice versa. While trying to express the affections in man, they wanted to bring about the arousal of emotions like excitement, broadness, being a hero, and wonder. However, sport parachuting began with the first recorded freefall in 1914 by a woman named Georgia (Tiny) Broadwick. Until this time, a static line was used to deploy parachutes. Roughly ten seconds after exiting the aircraft, the skydiver reaches 120 mph (terminal velocity), considering he is falling in the Box Man position. If the skydiver changes his orientation to a sitting, head down, standing, or any other position, his terminal velocity will adjust accordingly. After parachute deployment, the surface area is greatly increased and the terminal velocity is at its slowest airspeed. Applying these freefall concepts, skydivers have evolved into being able to fly their bodies, some in several orientations throughout the single sixty second jump. The first World Parachuting Championships were held in Yugoslavia in 1951. Five European countries were attended, and style and accuracy were the only events represented at the time. Since 1954 the championships have occurred every two years. The countries participating have vastly increased since the first five, to forty two represented in 2002. The only initial team event was accuracy at the fourth World meet in 1958. The team jumpers exited from 4,000 feet with a 15 23 second parachute opening delay. This means that the skydiver had to open his parachute in between 15 and 23 seconds from clearing the aircraft. This type of delay is unheard of in skydiving today, considering the slow opening of parachutes with advanced technology. Every

Many contemporary dances can go back to historical, traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances. Jazz: Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz originate from the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that African and European music is a union of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance performers prefer to wear a leotard and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to help with techniques. Most of the time if people aren t comfortable with wearing tight clothes they just wear jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that they are a little bit tighter, and jazz pants come in a variety of different sizes so they are very similar to sweatpants. The music styles in jazz can be the style of electronic, soul and mostly free improvisation. All of the above are from the genre Nu Jazz . Ballet Ballet was invented in the 15th and 16th centuries. But with many pros, come many cons. I m going to talk to you about the cons. Scientists need to know when earthquakes are going happen and when volcanoes are going to erupt, but they cannot precisely predict when they are going to occur. That will lead to some problems. Spontaneously erupting/shaking is one problem. No matter what scientists predictions read, natural disasters can happen at any moment. If a volcanologist or scientist has a station near the main vent, and the volcano erupts, then there is no way that they are making it down in time to flee the area. For example, since 1980 Mt. As a sixth grader, I had what Dweck refers to as a fixed mindset. In her TED Talk The Power of Yet, Dweck states, if you get a failing grade, you think, I m nothing, I m nowhere . In other words, Dweck believes that students that do not receive the grade they want, immediately consider themselves failures. The concept of failure is prominent in an excerpt from On Writing, by Stephen King, a popular writer from Maine. King states, Now that I was away from the administrative offices of Lisbon High, I felt able to muster a little honesty. I told Mr. Gould that I didn t know much about sports . In making this statement, King leads us to believe that he is afraid of failing. Similar to Dweck s idea of fixed mindset, King presents a fixed mindset towards his ability to write about sports. King is afraid of failure and is, therefore, presenting a fixed mindset towards his writing capabilities. Even as an 11 year old in middle school, I struggled with the idea of failing, and I believe that is why I was so afraid to have my narrative critiqued. I could not accept failure. The Happiest Refugee Summary Ahn had not left this oppressive environment, he would have grown up in extreme poverty and would be a very different person due to the trauma that poverty causes. Refugees are here to escape poverty and persecution; because they have experienced severe trauma, they are at a much higher risk of psychiatric illness than the general population. I believe that these statistics can be reduced if our negative attitude towards marginalized groups changes. Because of the media and government induced stereotypes, Australians often show disdain towards refugees. This inhibits their adjustment to Australian society and creates further division among us. The Happiest Refugee is a valuable resource in the fight against racism because it shows that refugees share our values, embrace our culture and are eager to contribute to Australian society, and I strongly support it s inclusion in the Rochedale State High School English program. One of the reasons why I found The Happiest Refugee to be enjoyable and impactful is the use of various aesthetic devices; including vivid imagery and humour. Ahn does not simply tell his story; instead, he uses descriptive and emotive language to paint a picture in the reader s mind. This allows us to imagine that we were there and connect with the situation emotionally. An example of imagery in this autobiography is when Ahn shows us what it is like to be a boat person . He describes his traumatic experience at sea by using language such as The sky

One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a dialectic approach to create conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another theory from Eisenstein is the methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights the most is the intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov theories states that film is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the movement is required to create montage and bring shots together in harmony. Another theory from Vertov emphasizes the cameraeye. He explains how the camera can show the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary Eisenstein demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and The Battleship Potemkin(1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life and society. In comparison Vertov displays his theories of movement to create montage and the importance of the camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera (1929) to illustrate cinema as a whole and show the power of the camera eye. To conclude, both Eisenstein and Vertov are able to effectively display their theories in film. Eisenstein theory about creating conflict between shots is explicitly illustrated in his

In this book Swift, by describing the ludicrous system that Lilliput s government fashions in, is satirizing the English system of governing. He uses parallels that seem absurd at first glance but make more senses when looked at carefully. As mentioned by Scott McCloud, young kids read books with many pictures, and as they develop into adults, they read books with less and less pictures, but is this the best way to read stories? There is a better method to read a story, and that method is through comics. In McCloud s graphic essay Show and Tell, McCloud proves that through the use of both writing and illustrations in comics, comics are the best form of literature to convey a story. By proving this, McCloud demonstrates how visual representation is very important while conveying a message, as it provides a bigger range of emotionand expression. As humans, we like creativity and emotions and thus, visual representation in communication is important in our society.
