Buddhism As A Mere Alternative To Buddhism In The Fifth...
Buddhism As a mere alternative to Hinduism, Buddhism emerged in the fifth century to overcome the
empty perception in the main religion of the time. It was started by an Indian prince named Siddhartha
Gautama (later known as the Buddha ) who left his royal life to find Enlightenment. This man s
journey was the starting point of a religion that has become one of the world s biggest and most
popular. In the beginnings, Buddhism was started singlehandedly by Siddhartha Gautama, an Indian
prince who was the son of Queen Maha Maya, Mahapajapati Gotami, and King Śuddhodana. He was
born in Lumbini (present day Nepal) during the fifth century BCE. According to Buddhist tradition,
Siddhartha lived a wealthy and comfortable life as a prince until at one point, he left on a journey and
was horrified at the sight of four people suffering of old age, illness, poverty, and death. At the age of
29, after witnessing their sufferings, he decided to leave his family in an attempt to seek
enlightenment through self discipline, or asceticism, but even his most intense asceticism didn t bring
him enlightenment. He then sat under a tree for 49 days vowing not to move until he had reached
enlightenment. He came out as the Buddha, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Sweet Wild Boy
ORIENTATION: Sweet Wild Boy, reveals a man (Mark Willis) who loves and cares deeply about his
family and friends. He could be described as a caretaker, or a loyal friend. Either way Mark represents
a man of integrity and character; who tries to help his best friend (David) overcome family problems
at home and then though out his adult life, addiction to drugs. Mark s parents even became involved in
the attempt to help save David however; David could not resist the demons of his past and always
found his way back to drugs. After many attempts to help David had failed, David ended up at a local
hospital where he called and asked his loyal friend to come and visit. This did not sit well with Mark s

Wonder Woman Character Analysis
The movie Wonder Woman is the DC Comic presentation of the origin story of Diana Prince
otherwise known as Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is an action packed thriller about peace, love
and empowerment. Appropriate for most ages, Wonder Woman is able to please a plethora of ages and
interests. I was extremely interested in watching this movie because there are fewer female
superheroes and even fewer movies about them. For some reason female superhero movies seem to do
badly in the film industry. William Avitt a critic for TheBlaze, Moviepilot Inc, and Republibot for

The introduction of Diana is first in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , however it is not crucial to
the plot of Wonder Woman , but there are several references to the relationship between Diana Prince
and Bruce Wayne. Later in the film Woman are armor clad, but with few other clothing. The prospect
of promoting female empowerment is somewhat debatable because although the cast is primarily
women and directed by a woman, there is a sort of forced sensuality portrayed throughout the film to
try to make others enjoy watching the film. Josiphine Livingstone a writer for new republic magazine
agrees when she writes ... Wonder Woman explained to those children huddled with me that political
morality has an aesthetic and a sexuality. However, she also writes Beauty, strength, goodness,
bravery: These are your values, and here is how your values must look. With which I don t agree
because the movie is not forcing values and their presentation on you, the movie represents the idea
that war is not everything. The moral of the movie is not just Diana and how she looks or dresses, it s
about her heart and her purpose.
Diana is also portrayed as dumb throughout the movie because of the isolation on the island where she
grew up. She has to be escorted everywhere, and have things explained to her. However, that was
appropriate for that time period because women were thought of as severely inferior to the other
gender of

Where Do I See Myself
The question is where do I see myself in five to ten years. The honest answer is I don t know where I
m going to be or what my career is going to be in the future. Right now I have no idea what I want to
do with my life. Hopefully, I will move out of my parents house, get married to someone that I can see
spending the rest of my life with and have a couple of children. I want to be a father so my kids can
carry on the family name and most importantly to watch them grow up and raise them like my parents
have done for my brother and myself. I hope in ten years that I will be at a steady and stable job that I
enjoy going to every day and that I make enough money to support my family and not be worrying
about money issues. Also, I hope that I m done with school and have achieved the highest degree in
my career field and hopefully I have no student loans that I need to payoff. Lastly, I see myself some
place sunny and warm all year round with a house overlooking the water.
Meanwhile, there are certain qualities that I have that I bring to a relationship. First of all I m a good
listener so I will listen to what my partner has to say and I won t ignore them when they need advice
or when they need to get something off their chest. I will be there when my partner asks for help and
will not make excuses for not being their for her. I m also a optimistic, which means I see the good
things in a person even though there actions or thoughts may be negative. Lastly, I have two qualities

What Is Hardware Abstraction Layerss In The Operating...
a program were to be created, the programmer would have to know exactly how each piece of
hardware interacted and communicated with the system itself. Due to this, software development was
significantly more difficult than it is today. Through the use of hardware abstraction layers in the
modern day however, programmers don t require all of this information due to their programs being
compatible with any device. Hardware abstraction layers (HAL) allow the operating system to interact
with hardware elements of the machine that said operating system is running on; and it does this in an
abstract way as opposed to a more detailed hardware level. The main purpose of the HAL is to hide
the differences in pieces of hardware from the operating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Windows NT family of operating systems utilises a HAL directly from the kernel of the system,
in the kernel space between hardware and executive services in the file NTOSKRL.EXE. Using this
HAL, kernel mode code is made much more portable despite having different memory management
architectures, and different I/O bus architectures. Resource management in an operating systems
environment is the controlled allocation and de allocation of system resources, for example; processor
cores, memory pages, bandwidth and many others. These resources tend to be shared by various
programs running on the machine which require them in order for the program itself to run accurately,
and also to ensure that the machine can allocate just enough resources so that everything can run
smoothly. Two methods of multiplexing (sharing) these resources; time multiplexing, and space
multiplexing. Using a computer which has several users, means that the importance and needs of
managing and protecting resources such as memory, and processing cores are even greater than
otherwise. This is because users would have to share files with each other which could potentially end
in disaster for end user. Multiplexing (sharing) of resources in the operating system is done in two
different ways, these are; time multiplexing, and space multiplexing. When time multiplexing a
resource, it involves the resources have different programs take turns in using them. So instead of one
resource being dedicated

Ww1 Life in the Trenches Essay
Phillip Jones March 15, 2005 Essay #1
During World War I, trench warfare was very common. It was a newer technique in battles as in wars
prior to the Great World War, fighting was less invasive and men merely marched at each other from
opposite ends of fields and fought until only one side remained standing or a white flag was hung high
in surrender. In fact in older wars, the fighting was far less dangerous to the point where battles were
often times viewed by locals who watched from side lines with really no threat of getting hurt. In
World War I however, the fighting had upscaled to the most sadistic type the world had ever
experienced. With the industrialist wave that had overcome us in the late 1800s into ... Show more

There is rubble all around them, somewhat signifying their lives as they miss their homes and families
and watch their closest friends die or suffer from deadly battle wounds beside them. In this picture the
men s poses look famished and weak, as you can imagine there was no fine dining in line for them,
only minimal food and beverage they often time shared with nuisance rodents unwillingly. They seem
to sit in waiting for the next attack to befall them in their soiled uniforms and delusional faces. Their

vulnerable. All characteristic to the nature of the changes that occurred in the new and vicious type of
warfare in World War I. As Europe switched into War mode, everyone s lives were altered around the
new concentration. As men went off to fight, sit in waiting, and die in these awful trenches, their
wives and children went into the factories. The countries in Europe, especially the main powers at war
such as Germany, Austria Hungary, France, Great Britain, Russia and Serbia, turned in to war focused
economies. All the uniforms, bags, canteens, weapons, and other materials seen in the picture
surrounding the men were the labor of their countries citizens. The nature of war during World War I

My Thoughts About Sexual Identity
When asked to write a candid and self revealing journal about my experiences, thoughts, feelings and
beliefs related to human sexuality, I became intrigued. Throughout my early life, my own sexuality
has been something of considerable focus because I knew that I was different than the average boy.
Later, I discovered this difference was called being gay, homosexual, a faggot, or queer. I remember
these names stinging just a bit because I did not want to be different than other boys, I just wanted to
be accepted and close to other boys. Consequently, my identity orbited around numerous fears,
thoughts, and reactions by others and me to how I subsisted as a person because of what I discovered
about myself during my journey through childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, I learned that my sexuality was natural and healthy until the AIDS crisis in the eighties. The
crisis around HIV/AIDS generated numerous myths which may or may not have been considered
sexual, but the most devastating was the revision of the myth that God hated fags. This was proven to
mainstream society because God was punishing gay men with AIDS and causing us to suffer for our
sin of loving. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was wrapped up in politics, religious
proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself in a community of gay people that I
truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and damaging to my well being. Identify
when you were first aware of yourself as a sexual being. How/when did that come about? The
bombast of politics and religion was not in my world view when I first discovered that I stood as a
sexual being. When I was in kindergarten, I became aware that something was driving me (a feeling)
toward physical contact with another person even though they were male or female. Did I know what
sex was at that time? I am not sure. My parents were brought up in the generation of free love and
were extraordinarily sexually open around me as far back as I could remember. I knew physical
contact

Techniques In Of Mice And Men
And will there be rabbits, George? Yeah, Lennie. There ll be rabbits.
There is a certain curse attached to the most familiar lines in literature. Because we know them so
well, we tend to smile when we encounter them, and they can break the reality of the story they re
trying to tell. What stage Hamlet has not despaired of getting through To be, or not to be? in one
piece?
In John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men, made into an enduringly popular movie, the lines about
the rabbits have became emblems for the whole relationship between George and Lennie the quiet
spoken farm laborer and the sweet, retarded cousin he has taken under his arm. I would not have
thought I could believe the line about the rabbits one more time, but this movie made me do it, as
Lennie asks about the farm they ll own one day, and George says, yes, it will be just as they ve
imagined it.

Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
By Achieving this awareness, they come to perceive reality differently; by broadening the horizon of
their perception, they discover more easily in their background awareness the dialectical relations
between the two dimensions of reality, (Freire, 115). Paulo Freire s, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, was
written over three thousand years after Plato and his own work, The Republic, but the two contain
very similar messages. Freire proposes to his readers that the oppressed are being dehumanized. With
this dehumanization follows a lack of education and the oppressed peoples understanding of
liberation. Although modern terminology such as banking education and problem posing replace

Shackled in a cave, believing that shadows are your realities is no way for a human to live. Although,
perhaps not fully aware of it, the moment the light hits the his eyes, outside of the cave, he is afraid of
the new freedom he is heading for. Finally accepting the collapse of the world he once knew, he
realizes that for a majority of his life he has been neglected of the conditions that make people human.
Like Freire, Plato is addressing the issues of oppression and transformation, and how it affects
humanity as well as fears associated with freedom once the oppressed is liberated. In Plato s allegory
the transformation does not just happen. An initial cause was required to allow for the man to ascend
to the opening of the cave; this initial cause is a teacher. Guiding him further back out the cave than
anyone had ever tried before. Allowing him to finally see beyond the shadows and echos he was so
accustomed to. It is this idea, of a teacher who guides but does not fully reveal, that Freire takes and

The Importance Of Confucianism In Chinese Culture
China is considered to be the first modern state in the world and has existed for thousands of years.
Throughout the millennia, this civilisation and its people have continued to develop the cultural
practices such as sacred teachings, which consequently has influenced their art style. Therefore, in this
essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word
and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over
two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is
integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be
remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe
that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to
carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most
important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism
that appears in Chinese art. You can see this in Xie He s Six Principles of Painting written in 550c. His
sixth principle of `Transmission by Copying emphasises the importance of working from the masters
artwork so you can learn from them and develop your own practice. The most common way this was
manifested is when painters remake previous masters work. It is the main way we see older

what I saw in her map, where she located her home at the bottom center, while my home is at the

Musée des Beaux Arts by W. H. Auden Essay
Suffering is embedded in our daily lives. There are devastating things going on in our daily
environments and yet, people seldom realize this as they occupy themselves with other tasks. W.H.
Auden s, Musée des Beaux Arts, is a statement on human perceptions and how we use them to
observe, or block out human suffering. While we are doing ordinary things like eating, or opening a
window, bad things can be happening to others and it is as easy as looking up, to see what is actually
going on. Auden illustrates societies indifference to human suffering through the form of his poem and
by alluding to artwork that compares human perceptions and juxtaposes ordinary images with images
of suffering and tragedy. The form of Musée des Beaux Arts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The lines are enjambed with phrases stopping in the middle of new lines and lines spilling into other
lines. The lines do not pause to acknowledge the end of sentences like people seldom pause their daily
lives to acknowledge the suffering of those around them. Auden also uses bad syntax in the last line of
the poem, had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on. Auden may have chosen to write in this free
form to demonstrate that people are so indifferent to what is going on around them that it does not
make any difference what form the poem is written in, as it will only be overlooked and not given any
attention. The form of the poem allows the reader to consider the ways in which suffering is masked
by the frenzy of everyday life and that even the acknowledged suffering of others does not seem to be
of any concern to anybody but the sufferer. Auden s poem is a criticism of human perceptions and how
we use them to detect, or suppress human suffering. In the first half of the poem Auden compares
versions of indifference by portraying youth and age, animals, and humans (Shmoop, 2014). In the
first few lines of the poem, Auden comments on the perceptions of the Old Masters and how they were
never wrong in their discernment of suffering. He then compares the old masters perceptions to the
perceptions of children and animals and how they are unaware of,

degree holder takes 21 years to pay off his or her loans. This leads to the question if college tuition
should be free or not. While some may believe it ought to be others disagree.
People like Arne Duncan believe college tuition should be free. The cost of college should never
discourage anyone from going after a valuable degree. Meanwhile people such as Matt Bruenig
disagree. Making college free for everyone would almost certainly mean giving far more money to
students from richer families than from poorer ones.
To start off, some people strongly concur that college tuition should be free. For example free college
tuition means more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the reasons why people believe that college tuition shouldn t be free is because taxes and fees
will be increased. Many students can afford to pay a considerable amount toward their higher
education. It is wasteful to give them a free ride. Eric Maskin explains. Just because some students can
t pay their college tuition doesn t mean everyone can t therefore there is no need for college tuition to
be free. College loans are often the first major financial dealing that people work with. Paying them
off in a timely manner proves you know how to budget your money, skills people use again and again
when buying cars or houses. Without having to pay for school, that experience won t exist, which
might be trouble down the road for buying that house or car. In reason to college shouldn t be free
because college might not seem as important and private schools may have to be closed. If college
becomes free for students, colleges will attract more young people who are not suited for college and
more students will major in fields with little or no market value. Students may skip class or not try
their hardest of the fact that they don t need to get their cash s worth when they aren t paying for
anything. As enrollment at public schools increases, so do the fees. Either more money would have to
be given to the schools, or they would have to create waitlists. This means that the taxes for education
related purposes might go up, or funding for something else (such as military expenditures). After
consideration some may believe that college tuition shouldn t be

Battleship Potomkin Essay
Revolutionary Politics in Sergei Eisenstein s Battleship Potemkin
In 1925 Soviet filmmaker Sergei M. Eisenstein s revolutionary propaganda film Bronenosets
Potyomkin was released, commonly known in the West as Battleship Potemkin. The film is based
upon historical events, namely the mutiny on the signature naval ship that was part of the Russian
revolution in 1905. However, Eisenstein did take liberties with history, since no massacre ever took
place on the Steps of Odessa . The film was voted to be the greatest film of all time at the World s Fair
in 1958 in Brussels, Belgium: Even at the height of the Cold War, spectators would still be captured by
its recreation of a spontaneous mutiny on one of the czar s naval vessels (Dickstein 91). ... Show more

Therefore, it is in this sequence that the viewer is confronted with powerful images, Eisenstein cuts
between the panicked faces of the helpless citizens and then to the nameless soldiers marching of the
steps with their weapons: The collision of independent shots shots even opposite to one another: the
dramatic principle (Eisenstein 49). This juxtaposition constitutes as a contradictory argument for the
citizens against the dictatorship of the tsarist rule in the Soviet Union. Originally, filmmaker
Eisenstein directed Battleship Potemkin as a revolutionary propaganda film, however he also wanted
to test his theories about Soviet Montage. In Battleship Potemkin and Beyond it is Dickstein who says;
Eisenstein [...] believed that film, as a revolutionary medium, could forward political revolution [...],
for its techniques could incite popular feeling and bring it to a high pitch (91). Nonetheless, Eisenstein
s technique, quite similar to Kuleshov s theory known as the Kuleshov effect , brought the power of
montage to a higher level, consequently making it a efficacious tool for propaganda. Due to its
immanent drama filmmakers will naturally be enticed by politics, but possibly also because the stakes

The Allegory Of The Cave By Plato And Rene Descartes
What is Philosophy? Well, by conventional definition, Philosophy is the rational investigation of the
truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct. This, while providing a contextual definition of
the word philosophy, just scratches the surface of its actual meaning. In this essay we will attempt to
answer What is Philosophy? by discussing the works of Plato and Rene Descartes. First, we begin by
summarizing and comparing the theme of their works for similarities so as to better form a definition.
In order to begin answering the question, What is Philosophy? we must comprehend each author s
method, themes, and goals throughout their works. Plato, being a Socratic apprentice, followed and
transcribed the experiences Socrates had in his teachings and search of understanding. In Plato s first
work, The Allegory of the Cave, Socrates forms the understanding between appearance vs. reality and
the deceptions we are subject to by the use of forms. In the cave, the prisoners experiences are limited
to what their senses can tell them, the shadows on the walls, and their shackles; these appearances are
all that they have to form their ideas. When one of the prisoners begins to question his reality he
makes his way out of the cave and into the day light. This prisoners understanding of his reality has
now expanded, thus the theory of forms; when he returns to the cave to spread the news, the others do
not believe him. They have been deceived by their reality and what

What Is The Comparison Of The Magnificent Seven And Seven...
The films, The Magnificent Seven , and, Seven Samurai , essentially portray the same events in action,
especially in the introductory scene. However, The Magnificent Seven , portrays the western version
while Seven Samurai takes place in an eastern village. The films also choose a different order to show
events and to go about each event. They do, however, portray the same basic idea: an innocent village
faces bandits who have no intentions besides pillaging and stealing all belongings from the villagers,
even if death of villagers must come from their intentions. The scene I have chosen to compare
between the two films is the introduction scene. I have chosen to analyze and compare this scene from
each film because while they show direct similarities in events as well as camera angles, the films
differ in many ways as well. The scene in, The Magnificent Seven , begins with the bandits riding in
on horses over a hill top towards a village to the tune of peppy western music. This scene is shot as a
far away angle and is done so with no verbal communication, almost as if the bandits all have one
common goal and they do not have to discuss with one another to know that is their intentions. This
leads to the viewer being required to view the scene as a whole and consider what the intentions of
these men must be and why they feel that way. When the men arrive to the village, the viewer is given
little to no information regarding the village. The viewer then begins to wonder: Who are these
people? , Did they do something to deserve this? , Maybe they know each other personally. The
bandits then approach the villagers as if they own the place . They are asking for drinks, sitting down
as they please, and even taking as they wish. The villagers seem to go along with this as though they
are used to it and intend to fully comply. This can be seen through the conversation between the bandit
and villager where the villager talks very quietly, slurring his words, and telling the bandit what he
wants to hear. The bandits then begin to leave as a villager runs after the bandits with intentions of
standing up to them, almost to be leading the village to rebell. The bandits quickly show they will not
stand for this

The Mexican Revolution Of 1910
The Mexican Revolution of 1910 set many influences in motion shaping the course of Mexican
history between 1920 up into the 2000s. There are several patterns that take its cue from the
Revolution include the creation and long standing existence of a one political party rule. The Mexican
Revolution is an extremely long and complicated subject to perceive without much background
information, but in summation the Revolution was an attempt to end a dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz
and to establish a constitutional republic. Many problems arose during the Revolution, including
several divided groups lead by strong willed individual lovely referred to as revolutionaries these
included Francisco Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho Villa, and Emiliano Zapata. With threatening
political crisis among competing Mexican elites and the opportunity for agrarian insurgence lead to
the outbreak of the Revolution. The Revolution would leave lasting influences such as those on
Mexico far beyond the imagination thought possible. The first pattern set noticeably in history would
the creation and long standing institution of a one party rule over Mexican government. The first
election of a Mexican President after the removal of Porfirio Diaz was in 1920 with Alvaro Obregon.
(CMH, 425) Obregon would face harsh economic trouble during a post World War I economy. The
most important aspect of his presidency would be to finally implement the constitution that had been
written in 1917. Obregon faces a Mexico

Drugs And Its Effects On America
Drugs are a major issue in America. They are imported from all around the world, but they are mostly
brought across the Mexican border. Even though they are a major concern, nobody is doing anything
about it. In the year 2015 nearly 47,000 have died from an overdose. Why is this epidemic of drugs
being flown into America being ignored? Is the election between Hilary and Trump for the presidency
a bigger picture than drugs and drug related crime? Will Trump s idea of building a wall actually help
decrease illegal immigration, and decrease the amount of narcotics brought into the U.S? Drugs
coming from Mexico have also been an issue and we have continuously reduced the amount of drugs
from being smuggled into the United states, but not all of them. Drugs are obviously a big issue in
America, even if it is being overlooked. Not only are the Drugs killing people but the fight over them
is also creating crime. People on the streets have been fighting over drugs for as long as they have
been here. They re not only fighting over the drugs but they re also killing for them. Why do we allow
for such damage to occur in the U.S. when it can be stopped? There is one solution for this drastic
issue, legalize the drugs. If a whole percentage is being controlled and distributed by the government,
people will not fight over them which will lead to lower rates of crime. Alternatively, a good way to
lower overdoses is to put a tax on them. Charge an extra tax, for example cigarettes, tax

for many of them are from the fairy tale of Europe. So they decide to make the park some change
because of the French culture. While in my opinion, the most attracting factors of Disneyland, which
distinguishes it from other theme park, is the Disney culture and the style of the park. This should not
be changed of the essence.
2. The standard for service(the rules for stuff)
On the surface, it seems that the Disneyland hasn t change the standard at all, including the handbook
of dress code and regulation. In fact, what s the efficiency of it? Is it working well? Absolutely not. It
can be reflected from the greeting said by the stuff, the not standard English. And also, these thing
make stuff very uncomfortable, most of which choose to leave the Disneyland after half of the year.
What should be localized but not be localized by the company? (The mistake of not change)
1. The food in the park
Drinks with alcohol are not provided in the park, just as other Disney Parks do, for its concept of

Americans disrespect their customs and culture, which contributes to the conflict of Disneyland and

Similarities Between Kantian Ethics And Utilitarianism
As the world witnessed the horrors of 9/11 and the ensuing Global War on Terror committed by
different belligerents, it found itself in an ethical debate as how it was to respond to this reality. The
Church found itself in a particularly peculiar situation as it is widely regarded as a moral compass a
majority of all people of earth.
In an attempt to tackle the ethical and moral issues with the question of whether or not to sanction an
armed effort to defend against terrorism, the Church very often referred back to its received normative
ethical framework for the justification of war, namely the Just War theory. The pope used Just War
Theory as an argument against the American led invasion of Iraq in 2003. At the same time, five
leading evangelical Christian leaders outlined their support for the invasion in what is know as the

Before Kant, the philosophical thinkers of the day had slowly been shifting from Platonic and
Aristotelian virtue ethics towards a consequentialist view in which people were seen as means towards
an arbitrary end. This rejection of utilitarian and consequentialist systems holds a strong appeal to the
Christian for many reasons, and numerous similarities between Kantian philosophy and ideas of many
Christians can be noticed in several areas. One example of this is Kant s idea of good will which
resonates closely with Christian virtue ethics. Another Kantian idea is that moral truth can be
determined by man, a concept which is reminiscent of Aquinas practice of regarding reason as a mean
to arrive at the natural law. For example, Kant s idea of good will approximates the virtue ethics held
by many Christians, and his belief that moral truths can be determined by man echoes Aquinas
commitment to using reason to arrive at the natural law.(repetetive last

beneficial because it is creating an opportunity for students to have their work published that is
accessible to a broader and different audience than that of the writing center review. The writing center

Therefore, with the students being able to submit their technical writing pieces such as class projects,

The Planet Of The Apes
The Planet of the Apes franchise completely overtook the film industry starting in 1968, after the
original film hit theaters. Since then, there has been a reboot, two sequels, merchandise, and even a
TV series. This film was such a success for many reasons its clever allegories to race, religion, and
politics, the phenomenal makeup and costume design, the world building that was almost unheard of
in 1968 (maybe even giving inspiration for the world building in the first Star Wars film which hit
theaters in 1977), you name it. However, there is one thing above all that comes to the mind of both
film buffs and newbies alike when one thinks of the original Planet of the Apes and that is the
phenomenal twist ending. Planet of the Apes is a science fiction film that surrounds the journey of
astronaut George Taylor, who landed his ship on a planet that he concludes exists in a completely
different time than earth when he departed. On his quest, Taylor loses the three astronauts that were
travelling with him and realizes that this planet is ran completely by a civilized society of apes, and he
found the humans to be mute, savage, and animalistic. The film follows Taylor as he is captured by
this literate community of apes and attempts to understand how this world came to be. After forming
an animosity with Dr. Zaius, the orangutan minister of science, who seemed to fear the idea of humans
gaining intelligence, Taylor escaped his capture in search of the reason why this planet

The Theory of General Relativity and The Expansion of the...
Over many centuries, there has been a great deal of controversy over the ultimate fate of the universe.
It began in the early 1900 s with Albert Einstein s theory that General relativity could be used to
inform us about the universe which would also inform us on how the universe would end. Russian
Physicist, Alexander Friedman, was the first to believe that universe was expanding from initial
singularity which is also known as the Big Bang. After Edwin Hubble stated his observation on the
universe s expansion in 1931, the end of the universe has been a subject that many scientist have
investigated. In the late 1920 s before Edwin Hubble s statement about his observation to which after
Einstein heard about the statement, Albert Einstein admitted that his cosmological constant was a
stupid and careless mistake. George Lemaitre, Belgium astronomer and physics professor, voiced his
theory which is famously known all around the world as the Big Bang Theory as the origin, or the
beginning of the universe. The Big Bang Theory became the most highly acceptable theory of how the
universe came to be thanks to the discovery by Robert Wilson and Arno Penzias in 1965.
Another important element that contributes to the fate of the universe is the Density Parameter, which
is the average matter of density over the value of that density. That would then give you either one of
the three geometries which are the flat, open and closed universe, and respectively. Cosmotologist

Ida B. Wells Barnett
During the American Progressive Era, generally regarded as the late 1800s and early 1900s, many
ideals were changing among the American people. During this period, which closely followed the end
of the civil war, there was an especially great amount of change in what was considered an appropriate
way of conducting oneself, especially if one happened to be a black woman. Ida B. Wells Barnett, an
African American activist who was particularly outspoken on the inhumanity and barbarism of public
lynching, can be used as an excellent primary source exemplifying how black women in the
progressive era felt that they were expected to be presented. As well as identifying the roles and
visions of women in this period, Ida B. Wells Barnett is an example of a women who broke many
barriers, exceeding the limitations put on her by the social constructs of her race and gender.
During this period in American history there were strong views held by the majority of society about
how black women were supposed to conduct themselves. There was a strong patriarchal dominance
over black women, with the subordinance of women being greatly influenced by the remnants of
slavery. Since men were so fiercely controlled during slavery, often not allowed much contact with
their families, and very strict regulations surrounding their sexual relationships with their wives, much
of the masculinity of the men seemed to be stripped away by their masters. After being freed, many
black men felt the need to

The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by
the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the
connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that
suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and
through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and
Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality
through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a
nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of
history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that
he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly
sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière
instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years
after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Because of the time lapse
between modern and ancient, primary research is almost always nonexistent, meanwhile secondary
research is typically the go to for written history. Hence, authors must use interpretations and

stories were told orally. The poem the Iliad tells the story of Achilles, his anger, and his slaying of the

The Dark Ages, dated around 1000 800 BC, was a result of the fall of the Mycenaean civilization
which is dated between 1600 1000 BC. The cause of the decline of the Mycenaean civilization is
unknown, but the fall of the society caused social instability, creating a need for protection. This

Americans love luxury vehicles, during the pass 10 years SUVs` became the major family vehicle,
families are starting to feel the financial strain at the pump when they have to put gas in their vehicle.
Some people can not afford to fill up their SUVs because it cause $50 to $100.00 to fill their gas tank.
These same vehicles use to case lest than $35.00 at a lower gas price. Rising gas price affect every
one, not just drivers, some gas station in the south and mid west is completely out of gas due to the
rising gas price. The gas station owners can not compete with the larger oil company who control the
flow of oil. We are already seeing a ripple effect from the high gas prices. Go shopping lately? We
seem to be in a perpetual daze when it comes to the economy. Oh, nothing bad will happen; Things
will be okay . It seems easy to forget of the not so distant times during the Great Depression.
Rising gas prices affect everything across the board. This is because commodities need to be
transported across the country on trucks. Trucks, as you know, require lots of gas.
Section 4: U.S. Economy The rising cost of retail gasoline prices has affected U.S. households
regardless of whether their members drive, take public transportation, or walk. In a modern economy,

America And Gender Neutral Bathrooms Essay
America and Gender Neutral Bathrooms
There is a long history of social groups being repressed within the United States of America. With an
ever changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social groups
appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences of this has
been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a same sex couple.
After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to attention. One of the
more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT community in accordance to
public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use whichever bathroom that matches
with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the rights that accompany them is constantly
being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden movement, social issues are sparking outrage and
debate on whether this argument should be implemented into society. This issue has dominated the
media and has caused chaos on both sides of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should
not be able to use whatever bathroom they please. The U.S. federal government is backing the issue of
gender neutral bathrooms. As Lisa Rein, publisher of an article in The Washington Post, writes, The
federal government is strongly urging employers to give transgender employees access to bathrooms
that correspond to their gender identity, marking a new policy front

Comparing Buddy Rich s Life And Music
Buddy Rich was a very well know jazz drummer born on September 30th, 1917
in Brooklyn, New York. He was an extremely talented drummer and during his career he
was know as the world s greatest drummer. He played with numerous notable
musicians including Harry James and Ben Carter. He was well known for his ability to
play quickly and very accurately.
Buddy Rich was born into a Jewish family with parents know as Robert and Bess
Rich. Buddy was born into a very talented family to begin with. He showed his talent for
drumming very early in his life and was soon performing. By 18 months old he was able

was always looking for the best way for Buddy to get more money and create a bigger
name for himself. This, however, meant he did not have too much time for an education
because he was out performing all the time, but who needs that anyways.I don t know
about you, but if i was making 1k a week as a kid I wouldn t be too worried about
learning stuff.
After going off to war during World War II, Rich was back to drumming soon after.
He joined the Harry James Orchestra where he made just $500 more than he did as a
child. However, at this time that was still a lot of money. In the 1950 s, Rich played with
multiple different talented musicians. However, in the 60 s he changed from that. He
was more involved with his making of a big jazz band with became popular during the
swing era. There would be groups of 10+ people that are involved. That would include
drummers, saxophones, trumpets, etc. He found a lot of success in the big bands and
continued to do them until he died.
Buddy Rich died April 2, 1987 due to a brain tumor at the age of 69. Up until

The Phantom Of The Opera
Phantom of the Opera has been around for longer than I can recall, being the musical to talk about
among my family as something grand. When I was the age of only fourteen I received the honor of
performing the musical for the first time, although I had to learn a great deal about the script for that
performance, the history behind The Phantom of the Opera is not clear to me. So I started my research
their tied to the original piece. Phantom of the opera.com gave a timeline that had the background,
explaining that the original piece was published in 1911 by Gaston Leroux. (Timeline) The author was
inspired by a trip to the Paris opera house, explaining that below the Paris opera house is a lake, and
that he recalled an accident in which the chandelier had fallen some years earlier. (Hall, P.16) Sparking
Gaston Leroux to make the book. The book from this point was given to the hands of a movie
producer making a silent film in November 1925. (The Phantom of the Opera (1925)) The film after
its first round was then re done two more times, one of which was not a success. Andrew Lloyd
Webber in May of 1984 hears about the theatre royals stage performance and then comes up with the
ideal to turn the book/ play at this time into a musical. The musical took several awards and made
countless new fans, finally being turned into a film by Warner Brothers Dec, 22 2004, showing the
same amount of success as the musical show. (The Phantom of the Opera, (2004) The musical

My Experience In A Restaurant
Looking back, I can still recall the countless days that I spent in my family s restaurant. For twelve
hours every single day of the week, I spent the majority of my time alone at a corner table. My mom
was always occupied with leading the stream of faces, pouring through the doors, to their tables and
attending to their needs. On the other hand, my dad would be busy operating the large woks, rounded
cooking pans, over scorching red flames in order to keep the food trays in front of the kitchen doors
filled. Even though my parents were always around me, I had to spend most of my time by myself. I
would spend the dull lengthy periods I had doodling on menus, building with Legos and crafting
action figures out of eating utensils and rubber bands. Although I came up with many activities to
shorten the long days, my constantly changing thirst for entertainment could not be quenched. I
remembered one day; I ran into the back of the restaurant to complain to my dad. I told him that the
parents of other kids have jobs as well, yet they still spend time with their kids. and, it was not fair for
me to have my parents to say that they were too busy to see my drawings and praise my creations.
Fatigued and sweaty, my dad briefly stepped back from the heat of the woks and said, make use of the
opportunities that you have now so that you won t regret it in the future . Not surprisingly, I was a
dumb little kid and I stormed out of the kitchen with clenched fists, teary eyes, red face

Women In The 19th And 20th Century
Observants regarding female were made maturation throughout the 19th and 20th century. The 19th
century lady regarded as a delicate, caring, sexual passivity, and a fickle of mood species (Vicinus,
1972, x xi). Feminine and personality disorder (hysterical) became interchangeable terms. Thus,
femininity correlates with anorexia and agoraphobia in countless ways, and it altered the way we
perceive female evolution.
Firstly, females chose as a part of an experiment in a male dominated world; where males are
comprehended being the only gender with a whole notion. Doctors of the 19th century regarded
females as highly egoistic for no apparent reason, narcissistic, highly labile, essentially asexual and
not uncommonly frigid (Smith Rosenberg,

  • 3. Buddhism As A Mere Alternative To Buddhism In The Fifth... Buddhism As a mere alternative to Hinduism, Buddhism emerged in the fifth century to overcome the empty perception in the main religion of the time. It was started by an Indian prince named Siddhartha Gautama (later known as the Buddha ) who left his royal life to find Enlightenment. This man s journey was the starting point of a religion that has become one of the world s biggest and most popular. In the beginnings, Buddhism was started singlehandedly by Siddhartha Gautama, an Indian prince who was the son of Queen Maha Maya, Mahapajapati Gotami, and King Śuddhodana. He was born in Lumbini (present day Nepal) during the fifth century BCE. According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha lived a wealthy and comfortable life as a prince until at one point, he left on a journey and was horrified at the sight of four people suffering of old age, illness, poverty, and death. At the age of 29, after witnessing their sufferings, he decided to leave his family in an attempt to seek enlightenment through self discipline, or asceticism, but even his most intense asceticism didn t bring him enlightenment. Right now I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Hopefully, I will move out of my parents house, get married to someone that I can see spending the rest of my life with and have a couple of children. I want to be a father so my kids can carry on the family name and most importantly to watch them grow up and raise them like my parents have done for my brother and myself. I hope in ten years that I will be at a steady and stable job that I enjoy going to every day and that I make enough money to support my family and not be worrying about money issues. Also, I hope that I m done with school and have achieved the highest degree in my career field and hopefully I have no student loans that I need to payoff. Lastly, I see myself some place sunny and warm all year round with a house overlooking the water. Meanwhile, there are certain qualities that I have that I bring to a relationship. First of all I m a good listener so I will listen to what my partner has to say and I won t ignore them when they need advice or when they need to get something off their chest. What Is Hardware Abstraction Layerss In The Operating... a program were to be created, the programmer would have to know exactly how each piece of hardware interacted and communicated with the system itself. Due to this, software development was significantly more difficult than it is today. Through the use of hardware abstraction layers in the modern day however, programmers don t require all of this information due to their programs being compatible with any device. Hardware abstraction layers (HAL) allow the operating system to interact with hardware elements of the machine that said operating system is running on; and it does this in an abstract way as opposed to a more detailed hardware level. Resource management in an operating systems environment is the controlled allocation and de allocation of system resources, for example; processor cores, memory pages, bandwidth and many others. These resources tend to be shared by various programs running on the machine which require them in order for the program itself to run accurately, and also to ensure that the machine can allocate just enough resources so that everything can run smoothly. Two methods of multiplexing (sharing) these resources; time multiplexing, and space multiplexing. Using a computer which has several users, means that the importance and needs of managing and protecting resources such as memory, and processing cores are even greater than otherwise. This is because users would have to share files with each other which could potentially end in disaster for end user. It was a newer technique in battles as in wars prior to the Great World War, fighting was less invasive and men merely marched at each other from opposite ends of fields and fought until only one side remained standing or a white flag was hung high in surrender. In fact in older wars, the fighting was far less dangerous to the point where battles were often times viewed by locals who watched from side lines with really no threat of getting hurt. In World War I however, the fighting had upscaled to the most sadistic type the world had ever experienced. With the industrialist wave that had overcome us in the late 1800s into ... This was proven to mainstream society because God was punishing gay men with AIDS and causing us to suffer for our sin of loving. As one can see, my sexuality at an early age was wrapped up in politics, religious proclamations, and fear. It was only when I assimilated myself in a community of gay people that I truly understood that the myth based rhetoric was wrong and damaging to my well being. Identify when you were first aware of yourself as a sexual being. How/when did that come about? The bombast of politics and religion was not in my world view when I first discovered that I stood as a sexual being. When I was in kindergarten, I became aware that something was driving me (a feeling) toward physical contact with another person even though they were male or female. Throughout the millennia, this civilisation and its people have continued to develop the cultural practices such as sacred teachings, which consequently has influenced their art style. Therefore, in this essay I will explore and compared themes such as Confucianism, Taoism and even their written word and how those have influences art in China through the ages. The concept of Confucianism began over two thousand five hundred years ago, and it is largely defined by three key principles. That etiquette is integral to harmony, authority is to be respected and most importantly tradition and history is to be remembered and revered. All three of these principles are equally important and Confucians believe that these teachings are the best way to have a peaceful and uncorrupted society and the best way to carry yourself as a person. However, I claimed that reverence towards tradition was the most important principle because I have found that it is the most common theme related to Confucianism that appears in Chinese art. Eisenstein s revolutionary propaganda film Bronenosets Potyomkin was released, commonly known in the West as Battleship Potemkin. The film is based upon historical events, namely the mutiny on the signature naval ship that was part of the Russian revolution in 1905. However, Eisenstein did take liberties with history, since no massacre ever took place on the Steps of Odessa . The film was voted to be the greatest film of all time at the World s Fair in 1958 in Brussels, Belgium: Even at the height of the Cold War, spectators would still be captured by its recreation of a spontaneous mutiny on one of the czar s naval vessels (Dickstein 91). ... This juxtaposition constitutes as a contradictory argument for the citizens against the dictatorship of the tsarist rule in the Soviet Union. • 23. The Allegory Of The Cave By Plato And Rene Descartes What is Philosophy? Well, by conventional definition, Philosophy is the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct. This, while providing a contextual definition of the word philosophy, just scratches the surface of its actual meaning. In this essay we will attempt to answer What is Philosophy? by discussing the works of Plato and Rene Descartes. First, we begin by summarizing and comparing the theme of their works for similarities so as to better form a definition. In order to begin answering the question, What is Philosophy? we must comprehend each author s method, themes, and goals throughout their works. Plato, being a Socratic apprentice, followed and transcribed the experiences Socrates had in his teachings and search of understanding. In Plato s first work, The Allegory of the Cave, Socrates forms the understanding between appearance vs. reality and the deceptions we are subject to by the use of forms. In the cave, the prisoners experiences are limited to what their senses can tell them, the shadows on the walls, and their shackles; these appearances are all that they have to form their ideas. When one of the prisoners begins to question his reality he makes his way out of the cave and into the day light. This prisoners understanding of his reality has now expanded, thus the theory of forms; when he returns to the cave to spread the news, the others do not believe him. • 24. What Is The Comparison Of The Magnificent Seven And Seven... The films, The Magnificent Seven , and, Seven Samurai , essentially portray the same events in action, especially in the introductory scene. However, The Magnificent Seven , portrays the western version while Seven Samurai takes place in an eastern village. The films also choose a different order to show events and to go about each event. They do, however, portray the same basic idea: an innocent village faces bandits who have no intentions besides pillaging and stealing all belongings from the villagers, even if death of villagers must come from their intentions. The scene I have chosen to compare between the two films is the introduction scene. I have chosen to analyze and compare this scene from each film because while they show direct similarities in events as well as camera angles, the films differ in many ways as well. The scene in, The Magnificent Seven , begins with the bandits riding in on horses over a hill top towards a village to the tune of peppy western music. This scene is shot as a far away angle and is done so with no verbal communication, almost as if the bandits all have one common goal and they do not have to discuss with one another to know that is their intentions. This leads to the viewer being required to view the scene as a whole and consider what the intentions of these men must be and why they feel that way. When the men arrive to the village, the viewer is given little to no information regarding the village. The viewer then begins to wonder: Who are these people? , Did they do something to deserve this? , Maybe they know each other personally. The bandits then approach the villagers as if they own the place . They are asking for drinks, sitting down as they please, and even taking as they wish. The villagers seem to go along with this as though they are used to it and intend to fully comply. This can be seen through the conversation between the bandit and villager where the villager talks very quietly, slurring his words, and telling the bandit what he wants to hear. The bandits then begin to leave as a villager runs after the bandits with intentions of standing up to them, almost to be leading the village to rebell. • 27. Drugs And Its Effects On America Drugs are a major issue in America. They are imported from all around the world, but they are mostly brought across the Mexican border. Even though they are a major concern, nobody is doing anything about it. In the year 2015 nearly 47,000 have died from an overdose. Why is this epidemic of drugs being flown into America being ignored? Is the election between Hilary and Trump for the presidency a bigger picture than drugs and drug related crime? Will Trump s idea of building a wall actually help decrease illegal immigration, and decrease the amount of narcotics brought into the U.S? Drugs coming from Mexico have also been an issue and we have continuously reduced the amount of drugs from being smuggled into the United states, but not all of them. Drugs are obviously a big issue in America, even if it is being overlooked. Not only are the Drugs killing people but the fight over them is also creating crime. People on the streets have been fighting over drugs for as long as they have been here. They re not only fighting over the drugs but they re also killing for them. Why do we allow for such damage to occur in the U.S. when it can be stopped? There is one solution for this drastic issue, legalize the drugs. If a whole percentage is being controlled and distributed by the government, people will not fight over them which will lead to lower rates of crime. The Church found itself in a particularly peculiar situation as it is widely regarded as a moral compass a majority of all people of earth. In an attempt to tackle the ethical and moral issues with the question of whether or not to sanction an armed effort to defend against terrorism, the Church very often referred back to its received normative ethical framework for the justification of war, namely the Just War theory. One example of this is Kant s idea of good will which resonates closely with Christian virtue ethics. Another Kantian idea is that moral truth can be determined by man, a concept which is reminiscent of Aquinas practice of regarding reason as a mean to arrive at the natural law. On his quest, Taylor loses the three astronauts that were travelling with him and realizes that this planet is ran completely by a civilized society of apes, and he found the humans to be mute, savage, and animalistic. • 34. The Theory of General Relativity and The Expansion of the... Over many centuries, there has been a great deal of controversy over the ultimate fate of the universe. It began in the early 1900 s with Albert Einstein s theory that General relativity could be used to inform us about the universe which would also inform us on how the universe would end. Russian Physicist, Alexander Friedman, was the first to believe that universe was expanding from initial singularity which is also known as the Big Bang. After Edwin Hubble stated his observation on the universe s expansion in 1931, the end of the universe has been a subject that many scientist have investigated. In the late 1920 s before Edwin Hubble s statement about his observation to which after Einstein heard about the statement, Albert Einstein admitted that his cosmological constant was a stupid and careless mistake. George Lemaitre, Belgium astronomer and physics professor, voiced his theory which is famously known all around the world as the Big Bang Theory as the origin, or the beginning of the universe. The Big Bang Theory became the most highly acceptable theory of how the universe came to be thanks to the discovery by Robert Wilson and Arno Penzias in 1965. Another important element that contributes to the fate of the universe is the Density Parameter, which is the average matter of density over the value of that density. • 37. William W. Cape Jr. The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Not surprisingly, I was a dumb little kid and I stormed out of the kitchen with clenched fists, teary eyes, red face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
