My Social Location
It is critically important in the field of social work to be able to self assess to better understand
one s life experiences and its implications when working with clients. A famous philosopher of
the name Laozi once said knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment . As a
social work student, being able to identify how my life experiences may impact interactions with
clients and enhancing my conscious use of self in practice is an essential tool that I can carry
with me as I plan my career as a future social worker. Describe your Social Location The ability
to reflect and describe my social location by utilizing the addressing model of identity
intersectionality has been insightful because it has allowed me to better understand myself, but
also the implications my social location has when working with clients. For most of my life, my
social location consisted of a low socioeconomic status. I was born in the Bronx, NYC toward the
end of 1993. My mother was kicked out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as thinking the birthmarks were dirt and attempting to scrub them off until she realized they

from the water fountain, another little girl said let the brown girl go first . Throughout my life,
my skin color changes depending the season and how long I am in the sun. I ve always wanted
my skin to be darker even though my family viewed having darker skin as negative. My earliest
memories of ethnicity come from being in middle school. There were often ethnicity battles among
the different ethnic groups as to which group was the best. My schools often consisted of Puerto

Social Issues In Fahrenheit 451
Ray Bradbury wrote the novel Fahrenheit 451, which is a story about a society that believed books
were for burning and where thinking was discouraged to fulfill one s achievements.
Throughout the novel there are several incidents that can be considered a social criticism for today
s standards.
Subjects that refer to 1) schooling knowledge, 2) the way society is conformed, 3) the diminishing
of family values.
These incidents help establish the overall concept of complacency and the atmosphere for the
society in Fahrenheit 451.
Body One.
There are several examples from the novel where circumstances refer to school and knowledge that
are socially criticized. The first example involves the schooling in this society.

Family values are diminishing while a unique look at the family is appearing. The main
character, Guy Montag has come accustomed to the characters on the parlor walls as family
members. Montag starts to question the value of his wife s family . Does your family love you,
love you very much, love you with all their heart and soul Millie? (Bradbury, p.77)
This is where Montag is beginning to be confused on the concept of his life, family and his own
personal achievements that have got him to this point.

Scholars and film critiques have often regarded the fifth generation film Director, Zhang Yi Mou s
films as a visually sensual feast (Zhu 26). The predominant use of the color Red in his highly
stylized films: Red Sorghum (1988), Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern (1991) are evidence of his
trademark visual style thus leading scholars to critically analyze the symbolic representation of the
color. I would argue however, in addition to the prevalent use of red in his art house films, there are
several supporting colors (black, white, grey, blue), intertwining with the color red. Zhang seems ...

According to Kong, Red in Chinese culture symbolizes luck and popularity and is commonly
used in important rituals and ceremonies...the color red is a vital signifier that is often charged
with a special ironic power (123). Red is often associated with passion and lust, though the latter
is true to this film, the symbolic representation of red amount to sexuality as a means of gaining
political power within the Chen household. The dining table scene where 3rd mistress arrives
fashionably late dressed in a bright red gown shows that she currently holds the power in the
amongst the four mistresses. This power , once acquired comes with the consequence of being
objectified under the red light to the master s male gaze. Hence referring back to Kong who
mentions the power these women gain is ironic. Their victory is the attention of the master s
affection for one night. This further emphasizes the lack of power and importance women have

Essay On Media Image Of Women
Everywhere you turn society is being presented with images of perfection, beauty, or sexuality.
Some of these images represent unrealistic or unreachable expectations and can be truly harmful. It
is common to see women exploited in reality TV shows and music videos. Young women are also
influenced by the images that they see in commercials, billboards, internetsites, and movies. These
images serve to harm a womans self confidence and also are affecting their overall health. Today s
mass mediamessages are having a negative effect on how women perceive themselves. I would

people model and learn from the behaviors of attractive individuals. Women want to emulate the
body images of the thin attractive models through dieting. Eventually, negative effects result from
this such as anorexia and bulimia. After the theories were described, the article states that thirty four
studies were conducted. Thirteen out of the thirty four studies were surveys and twenty one of the
studies were experiments. The media was measured and recorded for all studies with the categories
ranging from magazines and photos, to movies and television shows. Ten studies were measured by
exposure from fitness and fashion magazines. Seventeen studies were examined using a photo
measure. Typically, the photo measure consisted of advertisements with thin woman. Three studies
used a general mass media measure, which measured general media use. One study included a
movie measure and another included a computer measure. The analysis implies that there is a
relationship between body image and media, but the relationship is minute. The article says that
one reason why some woman may not compare themselves to the thin woman in the images is
because they are constantly exposed. Finally, the article concludes by stating that a manipulation of

the West Branches, which are managed by the West LA Library Branch Manager. This manager
receives orders and guidelines to follow from the head office. Next in the line of command, is the
head librarian. The head librarian is responsible to the West Branch manager. Within the library
itself and helping the head librarian, are four other librarians. Each librarian is in charge of
ordering and locating books, outreach programs and reading circles. Underneath them are the
clerks. The clerks are assigned to a particular librarian to take care of daily tasks such as counting
the cash, checking return boxes and deliveries, and reshelving books. Finally, the lowest in the
task force are the messenger clerks, who are part time employees who also work with particular
librarians. Each position is assigned specific tasks and assignments. The workplace is best
represented by the New Workplace, which offers flatter, more diverse and team centralized
management. In terms of management, the head librarian serves as a better leader by facilitating
self management with better and more open communication lines. The communication is two sided
and the head librarian when delegating tasks is very responsive and provides an open environment
where questioned are welcomed. There is also strong team association built into the structure.

Life Changing Experience Essay
Life Changing Experience
About one year ago I had a life changing experience, a trip to a little town called
Kerry on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. It was the most beautiful place that I have ever seen.
Being in the presence of such beauty helped me see life from a different perspective. I was just
going to be happy, appreciate what I have, be open minded, not take anything for granted, and love
everyone and everything. When I came back from
Ireland I was truly happy, nothing could make me upset. But after awhile my constant elation
came to a gradual end, but I was soon to find that even though my elation ended I was going to be

am lucky, free, and free to seize any opportunity that comes my way. Art also reminds me of my
happiness, a single piece of art work can capture a moment of emotion or feeling. Artists like
Claude Monet really capture emotion well, in the painting, The Stroll: Camille Monet , Monet
painted Camille standing in the middle of a field, it sounds simple. But Monet did such a good job
that there seems to be more, there is emotion. That is what makes art special, emotion, and that I
can have my own thoughts about what the artist is trying to say through their painting. In the
Edward
Hopper painting, Route 6 there is a real warm feeling coming from it. That warm feeling is one of
the best emotions that I have experienced, the only other time I get that feeling is when nature is
at it s best (sunsets, sunrises, grassy fields, ect.). That brings me to the artist Liz Sexton, her
paintings of nature are some of the most beautiful, natural, and unique pieces of art that I have ever

beauty, that in its self makes me a happy person. The most important influence in my

`` Brave New World Of Digital Intimacy `` And Mark Twain...
Humanity started as small tribes of people working together and benefiting each other, with each
member having a clear identity that complements the other small group members. The
advancement of civilization threatened this identity. Soon, hordes of people living together in
cities, towns, and countries drowned out individual voices and opinions, causing people to lose a
sense of identity. While it may be hard to maintain a sense of identity in a crowd, society offers
many hidden benefits that can counterbalance the struggles of identity. Two readings, Clive
Thompson s Brave New World of Digital Intimacy and Mark Twain s The Dairies of Adam and Eve
show how society and sharing the Good life can benefit the individual overall, and might even help
an individual find their own identity.
In Mark Twain s The Diaries of Adamand Eve, Adam first struggled with the existence of his new
life partner Eve. He hated the fact that he never had alone time, and the fact that Eve was starting
to name all the animals in the garden. Matters worsened when they had kids. However, near the
end of the reading, Adam begun to realize that Eve enriched his life in a way that he never knew
before. Adam, in return, also enriched Eve s life. The two found happiness together where they
normally would not find it alone. The pair s relationship shows the core idea of forsaking solitude
and peace for something more, the companionship and joy of others.
In the section under Ten Years Later Adam

How Did Marcus Garvey Influence The Civil Rights Movement
Marcus Garvey was a very important figure and public speaker for the Black Nationalism and Pan
Africanism movements. He founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), the
largest secular organization in African American history, and African Communities League. He
was the inspiration for a global mass movement, Garveyism, which inspired the Nation of Islam

Lu Xun s Medicine, The Authorities Within The Chinese...
In Lu Xun s Medicine , the authorities within the Chinese government executed a young
revolutionist, Yu Hsia (Xia), for his nonconforming political ideals compared to China s political
ideals at the early twentieth century. After his execution, Old Chuan brought a roll of steamed
bread to soak in Xia s blood since he and his wife believed blood would cure their fatally ill son,
Little Chuan (Hua). At the last part of this non chronological short story, the reader discovered
that Hua recently passed away, and buried directly opposite from Xia s grave, separated only by
the path. In particular, during Xia s superstitious mother visit to Xia s grave, she not only
grieved over his death, but observed a crow on a leafless bough. Seeking for hope, she wanted
the crow to fly on to his grave as a sign of her son s presence. The crow initially showed no sign
of movement, which made her raise the question: What does it mean? Then, the crow stretch[ed]
its wings, brace[d] itself to take off, then [flew] like an arrow towards the far horizon. Although the
crow did not fly on to Xia s grave, the crow still represented Xia s presence, or even Xia himself.
The crow s action was symbolic of what Xia would have done if he were still alive. It was clear that
Xia s mother had superstitious beliefs when she waited for the crow to fly on to Xia s grave as a
sign of his presence. Even though the crow did not listen to the mother s request, the crow served
as a representation of Xia. When

The Tariff Of Foreign Goods
A tariff is a tax on foreign goods. The price of foreign goods increases with the tax, and provides
revenue for the government, which makes American products more appealing. This is because
the foreign goods that were cheaper are now more expensive. However, why was there a need
for tariffs in the early 19th century (1800)? The reason is because, American industries were
young, Britain flooded the US market with cheap goods after the War of 1812, and foreign goods
have been often cheaper. In order to make sure American businesses could prosper, there had to be
tariffs on the foreign goods. The tariff of 1816 was the first substantial protective tariff of the
American System; supported by Henry Clay, but opposed by John C. Calhounand Southern cotton
growers. The tariff of 1824 increased the rate of the protective tariff and opposition in the South
grew. In the Tariff of 1828 (Tariff of Abominations), there were higher protective tariffs to New
England Mills; and Southerners were outraged including Calhoun.
On July 11, 1804, a bullet from Aaron Burr s pistol put an end to the life of Alexander Hamilton.
However, it did not put an end to Hamilton s vision for America. In 1806, a twenty nine year old

from this disease which is why the seriousness of seeking treatment early on is momentous. Due
to SARS being a newly discovered disease in 2002 2003, treatment options, possible cures, and

of intubation or invasive ventilation, as well as reduced the length of hospital stays in patients

Entering the fashion segment, the company can conquer new geographical markets, including
places where polo is not played. Given La Martina s brand image as a well established maker of
quality and high end goods with a genuine mission, customers are likely to be loyal to the brand
and continue to buy the new products. The experienced employees of the company as well as
PMG would help to further strengthen the position of the new, more diversified La Martina.
Finally, since fashion also varies across geographic locations, designs must be custom made based
on the local tastes. This should not be significant problem for La Martina, as it already has
experience in catering to individual national markets.
Although La Martina goods are high quality and high end, Lando has taken great care to present
them more as functional products for polo rather than fashion. The new fashion products could be
hard to promote among the company s original customer base, polo players and polo aficionados, as
the brand perception often drives the future sales of the company. For this reason, promotions must
be strategically focused to maintain company credibility, ensuring that original customers as well as
new customers are satisfied with the new products. Moreover, the fashion industry is a fast

Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen
the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African
Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare
Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own
community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s
racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial
background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class
greatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white
individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in
New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to
have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135).
Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white
individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of
her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case
demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and
social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial
passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status.
In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that raceis not the
novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s
decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on
the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from
Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate
initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending
exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security
(Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of being spotted as a

Compare And Contrast The Federalist And Anti Federalists
The Federalist and Anti Federalist
Establishing an effective system of government has proven to be an obstacle for centuries.
Fortunately, the Founding Father recognized the common flaws of governments, as did many
common men in the colonies. Consequently, the ratification of the constitution was vital for a
healthy governmental system, though it did bring about much debate and persuasion. There were
two main positions which people took during the ratification, those being the Anti Federalist and the
Federalist. The Anti Federalist were a diverse assembly involving prominent men such as George
Mason and Patrick Henry, and also the most unlikely of individuals, those being Farmers and
shopkeepers. The chief complaint about the Constitution was that it confiscated the power from the
sates, thereby robbing the people of their power. Oppositely, the Federalist believed in removing
some control from the states and imparting that power to the national government, thus making
America partially national. Throughout this debate, many letters were shared between the two
sides, and eventually, it led to the federalist winning over the colonies. Despite what both parties
believed, many legitimate points opposing big government existed. During the course of history, it
has been proven that a large government has the tendency to become corruptive over time, thus
providing an explanation for the commotion during the ratification. The colonists argued the issues
regarding big government while using historical failures as their basis. They reflected mainly on
the ancient Greek and Roman republic, which was rich with ancient tales of tyranny and
destruction. Both of these cities had republics which broadened their conquests to other countries
and in repercussion, their governments became the some of the cruelest and oppressive to ever
be. Additionally, even expects had spoken out on the astronomically negative effects that a large
republic. The baron de Montestuieu was a brilliant French philosopher who inspired the colonist
with his belief that a larger republic would be composed of wealthy men who would find
happiness by oppressing their fellow citizens. Not only did experts express the promised downfall of

Motives For Terrorism Essay
Terrorism is a type of violence used tactically in peace, conflict, and war. The threat of terrorism is
ever present, and an attack is likely to occur when least expected. In trying to find out what factors
can cause an individual to choose terrorism, it is first necessary to define what terrorism is. The
Department of Defense defines terrorismas the calculated use of violence or threat of violence to
inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals
that are generally political, religious, or ideological. Per the definition, the terrorists are not giving
into a whim of random acts, but these individuals are using calculated moves in order to achieve
the purpose of the group. Simply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of motivation is found to be a faith of the terrorist. The individual does not consider the
actions taken to achieve the agenda wrong and may tend to project antisocial motivations onto
others, creating a polarized we versus they outlook.(3) These members attribute only evil motives to
anyone outside the group. The resulting clarity of purpose appeals to those who crave violence to
relieve their constant anger.
The other common characteristic of the psychologically motivated terrorist is the pronounced need
to belong to a group. With some terrorists, group acceptance is a stronger motivator than the stated
political objectives of the organization. Such individuals define their social status by group
acceptance.
More often than not the groups goal may be nearly impossible to achieve. A group that achieves
its stated purpose is no longer needed; thus, success threatens the psychological well being of its
members. When a terrorist group approaches a stated goal, there may be an inclination to redefine
it. The group may reject the achievement as false or inadequate or the result of the duplicity of
them . When a solution is close to being reached, objectives change.
One effective psychological defense against success is to define goals so broadly that they are
impossible to achieve. Even if the world proclaims the success of a political movement, the

A Dystopian Future in Brave New World Essay examples
Brave New World is a remarkable journey into the future wherein mankind is dehumanized by the
progress and misuse of technology to the point where society is a laboratory produced race of
beings who are clones devoid of identity only able to worship the three things they have been
preconditioned to love: Henry Ford, their idol; Soma, a wonder drug; and sex (Dusterhoof, Guynn,
Patterson, Shaw, Wroten and Yuhasz 1). The misuse of perfected technologies, especially those

Regardless of the progress of technology, the real issue is not the capabilities and potential uses
of new sciences. The real issue, as it is in Brave New World, is that there will always exist those
who use new technologies for personal gain, evil pursuits and as an attempt to maintain power
and control (like the State does in Brave New World). The ideal concept may be a state of
stability that it unchanging, but this comes from our own internal dichotomy between a need
for stability and the conflict with the instability of being real. No state has ever achieved such a
stable condition in the history of mankind anyway, Historically, no actual political state has ever
achieved stability and only a very few have approximated it...Even so this is the aim for which
all politicians and political states plan (Firchow 85). Therefore, even though we have the power
to splice and locate genes that will modify human characteristics and behavior (like manipulating
a baby s sex or sexuality), who would choose to allow this power in only the hands of a few,
powerful interests? What would stop powerful white monied interests from trying to rid society of
supposed undesirables like blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals or even women? After all, by being

John is contemplated as a knave, the one who is less fortunate. Don Pedro also gets the name as
the Prince of Aragon and the winner of the war they had just come back from. Don John is seen as

Similarities Between Achaemenid And Greek Empires
The Achaemenid Empire was one of the strongest empires in Southwest Asia during the first
millennium B.C.E. Courageous and skilled Persian conquerors allowed Persian rule to spread
beyond Persian territory, creating one of the largest early empires (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). However,
across the Mediterranean Sea was dwelled a more advanced empire with a stronger military, the
Greeks (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). These prominent early empires possessed many similarities and held
the ultimate goal of building and maintaining an advanced empire and society. Yet, their
Southwestern and Afro Eurasian cultures consisted of several different beliefs and ways of life.
The 5th and 6th century B.C.E polytheistic Greek traditions tremendously differed from the religion
of the Achaemenid Empire, which believed solely in Ahu Mazda, the supreme god (Dunn Mitchell,
2014). The political structures of the Achaemenid and Greek Empires were also vastly dissimilar,
unlike the united Achammenid Empire; Greece consisted of several poleis (city states) (Dunn

However, the emperor and his entourage moved throughout Persia, thus there was no specific

Don Imus Is Decidedly Cute And Catchy
The jingle is decidedly cute and catchy, both annoying and familiar. You know the tune: one eight
seven seven kars 4 kids. Don Imus was caught ranting about it in 2010 as it played during a
commercial break on his radio show. Radio duo Opie and Anthony echoed the sentiment, saying
that the commercial goes right into your very soul. The opening segment to a December 2014
Saturday Night Live segment parodying the United States Military torture report joked the earworm
was created by the same psychologists who developed the torture techniques and wondered whether
the charity helps the kids or the cars.
The jingle belongs to a national charitable organization that has a presence in every state, as well as
countless billboards, Internet advertisements, and a recently released television commercial (click
if you dare) that puts adorable faces to the sweet voices behind the ditty: four goofy looking kids
clad in 80s band style clothes, lip syncing and rocking out on signature pink guitars.
Besides its impeccable branding, the charity blitzes listeners with exciting phrases like maximum
tax deduction, free vacation voucher, and the catchy phrase: donate your car today. But the ads
conveniently leave out how it all works or where the money goes. And while the SNL clip was a
joke, it also raises an obvious question: How exactly do cars go to help kids and which kids? With

Negligence, Liability, And Liability
QUESTION PRESENTED Concerns have arisen of a possible lawsuit involving an area of law
known as negligence and liability. This memo outlines the principles of this area of law in order to
be properly prepared should the firm face any legal consequences. It aims to illustrate under what
circumstances can the firm be affected with potential legal action in this area.
SHORT ANSWER
In legal context, Negligence is behaviour that falls below the reasonable standard of care and
liability refers to who can be held accountable for any damages occurred. Legally, the firm can
only be at risk if there is evidence that suggests negligent conduct and all four of the following
elements are met and proven: a duty of care is owed to an individual, the standard of care is not
met, damages have occurred, and the failure to meet the standard of care significantly contributed
to the damages that occurred. Along with negligence, there is a possibility of being deemed liable
and having to pay for damages. However, even if found negligent, there are tools that the firm use
to deflect or lessen liability such as vicarious liability, contributory negligence or voluntary
assumption of risk.
PRINCIPLES/TOOLS
Negligence
Negligence, in its legal definition (common law), is behaviour that falls below the standard of
care. Negligence can only be attributed if all four elements are present: a duty of care is owed, the
standard of care is not met, there is evidence of considerable damages and the

Future Development of Telepathology
With telemedicine becoming so popular in the healthcare system, it is not surprising that
telepathology is also becoming more and more popular. Technology has been, and continues, to
improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even
with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of
telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main
reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are
contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators
of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility
within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future
developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet
solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes
are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most
ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally
compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for
the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). Professor Peter Purness and Dr Jeremy Rashbass researched
the vision described above. They discovered that creating a new

New Liberalism
Old liberalism, otherwise know as classical or Gladstonian liberalism was centred around the
fundamental rights of the individual. It was an ideology that the state should have little to no
intervention in people s lives and in the economy. It relied heavily upon the notion of laissez
faire, and the Victorian mindset of self help. Thrift was one of these ideas. It was the theory that
any family could support itself if that income was managed wisely, and a pension could be saved
for. The key pillars of old liberalism was low taxes and low state intervention. This was because
they believed that the people should be able to spend their money as they wised, and not be forced

Towards the end of the century this was coming into question. Other European nations were
industrialising and eating into Britain s profits. There was a thought among the British public
that as long as the economy was growing, eventually prosperity would filter down to the lower
classes. But as the economy began to shrink, according to Lee it eroded the attractions of
industrial growth as a panacea for society s ills. Victorian notions were rapidly becoming out of
date and viewed as wrong, not only economically, but morally as well. In London and York,
studies showed that a third of people lived in poverty as a direct result of simply not having a
large enough income to cover their basic needs, while thousands more lived in poverty due to
inadequate education to manage there finances. Laissez faire was being proven to be out dated in
Birmingham where the conservative mayor Joseph Chamberlain had shown that local government
taking control for and organised public amenities and facilities could benefit the community as a
whole. Not only did this destroy laissez faire, but also it was an attack by the Tories on Liberal
values. In the 1880 s socialism was starting to gain ground as the lower classes saw that their

The Conflict Between Israel and Palestine Essay examples
The conflict between Israel and Palestine has tight roots in history, stretching thousands of years

its peak in 1948, the year Israel declared its independence (Beinin). Ever since then, the volatile
area of Palestine has become a battle ground for war, terrorism, and politics. The two nations have
attempted to make agreements, but so far, none of them have succeeded in creating long lasting
peace. Since it is unlikely that neither Israelnor Palestine would completely give up their land to the

These restrictions have not completely closed off trade into Gaza, however. With heavy border
control on the surface, traders have turned to smuggling goods through subterranean tunnels that
burrow into Egypt. It is estimated that around 15,000 jobs are found in the tunnels, smuggling
anything from weapons and cement, to food and cigarettes. These jobs are very much high risk,
however, with cave ins increasingly common. (Myre) If Israel dropped their blockade and opened
up more trading opportunities for the people of Gaza, there would be a significant decrease in
accidents in these smuggling tunnels, and their economy would be better off. Above all else, it
would express to the Palestinians of Gaza that Israel was prepared to trust them. The second step in
ending this violent conflict in the Middle East is for Israel to lift their occupation and settlement on
the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. If Palestinians and Israelis had settled for the terms outlined in
the original United Nations partition plan in 1947, history might have taken a very different path.
This plan would have split the land into two different states, an Arab state, and an Israeli state.

Hip Hop Culture Has Influenced The Lives And Identities Of...
Over the last four decades, hip hop culture has influenced the lives and identities of many youth
throughout the world. Depending on their geographical location and socioeconomic backgrounds,
youth have experienced this worldwide culture differently. One similarity amongst these selective
groups of adolescents is the political freedom that has come with engaging in the hip hop scene. Hip
hop allows Black youth in the United States, immigrant youth in France, and Afro Cuban youth in
Cuba to express criticism toward the racial marginalization that they face in order to gain the
equality that society prohibits them from acquiring.
Hip hop has evolved into a source of activism and inspiration that allows Black youth to address

Ellen Foster, Lord Of The Flies, And To Kill A Mockingbird
This world is full of inspiring, thoughtful, and hardworking people. Its full of crises and hard life
decisions people make everyday. The books Ellen Foster, Lord of the Flies, and To Kill a
Mockingbird all capture these qualities of humankind. They are full of savagery, plane crashes,
racial issues, child abuse, and perseverance. All three novels connect by how tenacious people are
when they are required to overcome adversity.
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, there is a plane crash which abandoned a large amount
of boys with no parental guidance on an island stranded. The boys struggled to survive through
the whole book. The boys are desperate to eat something other than fruit, so they try and try to

covert but the sow got away with the sting of another spear in her flank. The trailing butts
hindered her and the sharp, cross cut points were a torment. She blundered into a tree, forcing a
spear still deeper; and after that any of the hunters could follow her easily by the drops of vivid
blood .(Golding 196?) This quote shows how determined the boys were to get meat. This scene
was known as the rape scene because the boys wanted to kill a pig so bad for the meat and the
power. This book displayed the ability that boys could survive on their own even though there
might have been some major conflicts they had to face.

Women and Sports Essay
Women and Sports
As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question
arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it
has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male
bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and
female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity.
When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are
traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where
traditional social constructions are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates
in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is
taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is
behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold
to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the
lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner.
Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women
athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change.
Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies
were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure
skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes
competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a
rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while
technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute
strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women.

Examples Of Power In The Tempest
Shakespeare s retirement play The Tempest mainly focuses on the used of power; the will to
control over others. Power seems to be the main theme throughout the play as it is manifested by
different characters either in a good way or as the case may be, bad. The protagonist Prospero is
the main character that holds majority of the power, both magical and political. Tempest, which
was written in the early 1600s, shows how characters like Prospero, Antonio and even Caliban plus
others exert power over the weak and the willing. The significance of the different elements of

The mental health professionals in those institutions did not recognize that these patients were not

reason why excuses have no place in medicine, and that most mental healthprofessionals do not give

For example, in some cultures, if a person claims to be hearing voices they may be regarded as
someone with spiritual capabilities, whereas in our culture if someone claims to be hearing
voices we would suspect that they have a serious mental disorder. The consequences of mistakes
made by psychiatric diagnosis are that many conditions are believed to be permanent, so once
an individual receives a diagnosis, it can be difficult for them to be regarded as well again. For
example, most people believe that a person who has had a schizophrenic episode (they claimed to
hear voices or they reported delusions) will inevitably have further relapses. The truth is that about
25 percent of people who have a schizophrenic episode recover and never have another

Reaction Paper On Forgiveness
ChapterI
Introduction
Forgiveness
Generally, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that
hurt or offended us always remain a part of our life, but forgiveness can lessen its grip on you and
help you focus on other, more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of
understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt us.
Forgiveness doesn t mean that we deny the other person s responsibility for hurting us, and it doesn
t minimize or justify the wrong. We can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness is
a process that involves a change in emotion and attitude regarding an offender. Most scholars view
this an intentional and voluntary process, driven by a deliberate decision to forgive. Theorists
differ in the extent to which they believe forgiveness also implies replacing the negative emotions
with positive attitudes including compassion and benevolence. In any event, forgiveness occurs
with the victim s full recognition that he or she deserved better treatment, one reason why Mahatma
Gandhi contended that the weak can never forgive. Adapted from Philpot, C. (2006). Intergroup

The Public University Of Arkansas State University
he question of religious involvement in public education has been a controversial topic since before
America was a country. Thomas Paine, one of our founding fathers, expressed, As to religion, I hold
it to be the indispensable duty of the government to protect all conscientious protesters thereof, and
I know of no other business government has to do therewith, ( 20 Quotes ). While the separation of
church and statewas a necessity made clear by Thomas Jefferson in the first amendment of the
Constitution, the question differentiating freedom of religion and freedom from religion
remains intangible. The public university of Arkansas State confronted this debate in September
of 2014 after the death of two of its esteemed football team associates. In January of 2014, former
Arkansas State University football player Markel Owens was killed, and just six months later
former equipment manager Barry Weyer was also killed. Honoring their late friends, the entire
Arkansas State University (ASU) NCAA Division I football team willingly agreed to affix cross
shaped decals to the back of their helmets, memorializing the initials of the deceased members
(Starnes). Athletic director Terry Mohajir backed the team s actions by stating, My job is to
support our players and our coaches in their expression of any type of grief, and that s what I was
doing, (Kuruvilla). After receiving complaints from the co presidents of the Freedom From

Allegories In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, after 21 rejections, was originally published on
September 17, 1954. Winning countless awards for this novel like The Nobel Prize for
Literature, the book also remains the most popular he has ever written. Golding witnessed
multiple tragedies in his life while serving in the British Navy during World War 2, he allows the
reader to feel some of the contradicting emotions he experienced throughout the novel. The novel is
known for its extensive use of allegories, it is sometimes said that the entire novel itself is an
allegory. The authors writing expresses a theme of religion comparisons to the beliefs and official
writing of Christianity, he gives clues of the theme through character similarities,... Show more

Readers will notice that Ralph is fixated on reminding the boys to keep the fire going and not let
the flames go out. The bible reads And God said, the fire must be kept burning on; it must not go

made clear, the boys also lose hope of being rescued from the island on which they are stranded
and accept their lives as savages. Also, at the very end of the story when the boys are rescued the
novel makes note that the island is engulfed in fire making it impossible to ignore the ties to the

Leadership and Managerial Approaches to Magnet Status...
Introduction
Magnet hospitals are named for their potential to attract and retain qualified nurses. Magnet
hospitals are facilities that have been certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for
promoting positive patient outcomes through best practices in nursing (Upenieks, 2003). The
Magnet environment fosters autonomy and professional nursing practice. Research shows that
Magnet hospitals have better work environments, a more highly educated nursing workforce,
superior nurse to patient staffing ratios, and higher nurse satisfaction than non Magnet hospitals
(Aiken, Kelly, McHugh, 2011). Implementation of that environment requires the ability to create
trust, accountability, and open communication in changing times. ... Show more content on

Leadership traits associated with nurse executives are honesty, credibility, supportiveness, visibility,
and flexibility. Nurse executives analyze nursing functions and empower nurses through
participatory decision making, shared governance, and employee involvement. Nurse executives
share the vision and goals of the hospital and promote application of a nursing theory into the
nursing care delivery system. They anticipate the future of health care and nursing and serve as
monitor, role model, and preceptor to lower level management (Upeniecks, 2003). Nurse executives
in the Magnet program are required to have advance practice degrees with certification in their
specialty (ANCC). Understanding evidence based management and enabling the use of evidence
based knowledge provides the nurse executive with the tools to improve patient outcomes. The
transformational leader will remove barriers to improvement and encourage outcome based
thinking. While nurse leaders are charged with questioning the status quo, nurse managers in the
transformational approach to leadership are charged with maintaining the status quo.
Transformational Leadership and the Nurse Manager
Leadership and management serve distinct purposes with certain overlaps. The transformational
style manager is focused on maintaining the vision, reducing the resistance to change, and

Narrative Voice In Romeo And Juliet
Male characters who serve as a narrative voice often express their love and affection through an
enthusiastic response towards a female. In the song, Michelle , performed by Sir Paul McCartney,
the male narrative voice is proclaiming his love for a girl named Michelle through his words both
in French and English. Similarly, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William
Shakespeare, Romeo shows his enthusiasm upon catching sight of Juliet and expresses that he
believes that she is the most magnificent girl Romeo had ever met. Considering what both of these
sources say about how males reveal their emotions, it allows us to believe that when a man feels an

1.5. 52 53). Romeo in the quote conveys his emotions about Juliet by mentioning verbally that, that
night was the first time he had seen true beauty and that no one can compare to Juliet. Likewise, in
Michelle, the narrator of the song sees the beauty of the woman he is discussing within the lyrics,
and acting upon this through words. The male narrator wants the woman he is talking to to know
something and expresses it by saying, I will say the only words I know that You ll understand
Michelle, ma belle Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble Tres bien ensemble . (Doc 1). The
male character s choice of words in this part of the song is essential because he is communicating
that he needs Michelle to understand that he is inspired by her beauty and has a desire for her.
Moreover, upon noticing Juliet, Romeo realizes that she is different from other girls that has met
and done things with. Romeo remarks about Juliet, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (1.5.

Breast Cancer Awareness And Cancer
Breast Cancer Awareness
Cancer cells can grow on any part of your body, and start when cells begin to grow out of control
and eventually become invasive. What is breast cancer? (2015, June 10) The breast is made up of
lobes that have 15 to 20 sections and in each lobe there are many small sections that are called
lobules. The lobules end in tiny bulbs that produce milk, the bulbs, lobes, and lobules are all linked
by thin tube called ducts. Breasts also contain blood and lymph vessels. Lymph vessels carry lymph
between the lymph nodes, which are small bean shaped structures that can be found through out the
body. Lymph nodes filter the substances that go through the lymph to help fight infection and
disease. Breast Cancer Treatment, (2015 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are the risk factors of breast cancer? (2014, September 9) Other risks include not having
children or having them later in life, certain kinds of birth controls, using hormone therapy after
menopause, not breastfeeding, alcohol, and being overweight or obese. Everyone one is
different and won t have the same signs and symptoms that another person may have. Early
signs are usually found on the breast and are visible like lumps, skin dimpling, a change in skin
color or texture, the nipple changes shape or seems to look like it is pulled, or clear or bloody
fluid that leaks out of the nipple. Other signs include thickened tissue in the breast, most lumps
are not cancerous but should be checked to be sure. Breast Cancer: Causes, Symptoms and
Treatments (2015, July 10). Other experienced symptoms include pain in the armpits, redness of
the breast, a rash on or around the nipples, the size or the shape of the breast changes and the
nipple may peel, scale, or flake. Very often, these symptoms are not related to cancer but if you
have any of these symptoms the best thing to do is get your breasts evaluated to rule out the
worse cause, which is breast cancer. Symptoms and signs (2015, July 23) There is a series of tests
that are done to rule out of diagnosis breast cancer. One very common test is a

Modern Accounting Systems in Modern Organizations
Modern accounting systems have become the foundation from which the modern organization can
rely and depend upon to maintain a strong efficient strategy that will help the organization grow.
The modern accounting systems embraces the old accounting practices that have been used for
hundreds of years and builds upon that platform to give modern organizations control over the
finances. There must be set in place internal controls to keep the company assets from being stolen
and that is why modern accounting systems utilizes many internal controls with the organization.

Knowing exactly which accounts are being debited and which accounts are being credited is
essential to maintaining financial records and keeping the organization on the right track for
success. Modern accounting uses debits and credits through the accounting equation which is used
to determine what accounts are debited and what accounts are credited to keep a harmonious
balance between the debits and credits. The accounting equation is like the groundwork for the
debits and credits and that is why modern accounting systems utilizes the accounting equation no
matter what the account may be because the assets must always equal the liabilities, owners equity.
In the modern accounting systems each debit must have a credit to keep the balance in the
accounting equation.
[At] the heart of modern financial accounting is the double entry book keeping system. This
system involves making at least two entries for every transaction: a debit in one account, and a
corresponding credit in another account. The sum of all debits should always equal the sum of all
credits, providing a simple way to check for [errors] (Sharda Gangwar, 2009).
The third way in which modern accounting systems have made a difference in modern
organizations would be with the adjusting process of accounting to maintain records that are up to
date and includes all transactions. If every transaction is completely accounted for in the financial
records then the company will not be in violation of

Look Up By Gary Turk
I recently watched a video of a spoken word poetry entitled Look Up by Gary Turk, an award
winning filmmaker and spoken word artist. The poem highlights the author, Gary Turk s
criticism of society s overdependence and overuse of technology and social media. In his poetry,
Turk cleverly uses a love story to further strengthen his opinion and the message he wants to
convey to us. In my opinion, Turk makes some solid arguments that I agree with and does a good
job in getting his point across, however, there is one point he brings up which I do not agree with.
The first message I have deduced from the poem is that we should communicate with people in real
life instead of just through social media. In the poem, Gary says when we open our ... Show more

In Look Up there is a line that says don t waste your life getting caught in the net, because when
the end comes, there s nothing worse than regret . I thought Gary made a very smart play on the
phrase caught in the net . It carries two meanings; getting addicted to the internet and social media
and fishes getting caught physically in an actual net. Gary likens the former to the latter,
effectively conveying his point that if you devote your whole life to the internet, you will not be
able to appreciate the world in all its wonder and beauty. The internet can only satisfy you so much.
There is so much more out there that we should experience that can not only make us happy, but
can also contribute to our emotional and intellectual development as individuals. We have been

A Report On The Earth
Holly, could you pass me that static interrupted Trenton. The display on the bottom left corner of
his helmet said COMM SYS FAILURE . He looked up at his company and they seemed to notice
the same thing. Claude signaled them to get back on the rover. Their job would have to wait
because they needed to get back to the Base as soon as possible. Every fiber in his body told him
that the worst had happened: a solar flare. NASA had known about the possibility of such an
occurrence but the resulting solar flare from the explosion of a giant sunspot wasn t supposed to hit
the moon. The moon s atmosphere or magnetic field couldn t block solar flares from bombarding
them with x ray and radio waves, thus frying their communication systems. Since they couldn t
communicate with Earth, they had no warnings. The Base also didn t have any detectors. There
were no contingencies for total disconnect from Earth. He suspected an X class solar flare, the
strongest type, had occurred, catapulting one billion ton of coronal mass ejection and high energy
protons their way, with energies over one hundred million electron volts. These protons easily
penetrated their spacesuits. [122] [20]

Reflection Paper On Cross Country
Last year my cross country season was going great I was redshirted and was put into uniform. I
was at the peak of my athletic ability and school was going pretty good. Coming into this cross
country season I could feel that I was not fit as last year which created a lot of concern for
myself. I did everything that the coach told me to do and yet my body didn t feel good at all.
We got together at our cross country camp which is the start of our cross country season and our
first workout I struggled to stay with the people I could so easily run with last year. My body felt
bigger, my plantar was hurting, and I could tell that my confidence wasn t the same. The first race
was pretty good, but the next races kept getting progressively worst. We traveled as a team to
Lewis University to race a 6k and after the race, we were going to change out of spike real fast to
run a longer cooldown that would count for our long run. During the race, I hit the 4K mark I
could feel that something wasn t right. My hands became numb, my stomach began to hurt, I
became light headed, and my body felt heavy. I finish and fell to the ground in exhaustion, but
right away my teammates pulled me up to get ready for the long cooldown. I didn t feel good at
all, but I would have looked weak if I told my coaches my stomach hurts and I have a headache.
They would have just told me to go run. At one point, I just couldn t continue and we still had 30
minutes left. All I wanted to do was find my mom, so I

Carburetor Essay
FUEL INJECTION
A fuel injector is a device or technology that introduces the fuel into the combustion unit of an
internal combustion engine. It is an alternative method to carburetor. Fuel is injected into the
cylinder where combustion happen. In order to burn , fuel must be vaporized to be and make sure
the air at correct ratio . This job can be performed by either a carburetor or a fuel injection system.
If there is not enough fuel mixed with the air, the engine runs lean and either will not run or
damages the engine.
How fuel injector is better than carburetor
In new cars, fuel injection is becoming universal because it provides a better fuel efficiency and
much lower emissions
Carburetor is used in older cars , but it is still used in machines like lawnmovers and chainsaw
First take a look at carburetor
The carburetor has been the device that supplied fuel to the engine . It uses in older cars and simple
machines likelawnmover and chainsaw . But carburetor got complicated to handle different tasks .
The carburetor has 5 different circuit
пѓ Main circuit Provides just enough fuel for fuel efficient cruising
пѓ Idle circuit Pr0vides just enough fuel t0 keep the engine idling
пѓ Accelerator pump Provides an extra burst of fuel when the accelerator pedal is first depressed,
reducing hesitation before the engine speeds up

The Road Of Immortality And Glory
The Road to Immortality and Glory
Gilgamesh and The Illiad are epics that tell a character s struggle to gain immortality and glory.
Gilgamesh and Achilles s motivations to gain immortality and glory are quite different. However,
their journeys in trying to achieve these things are quite the same. Through the journey of trying to
obtain immortality and glory, Gilgamesh and Achilles teach their audience the true way a person is
able to gain immortality and glory in life.
Although greatness, honor, and dignity are shared influences on the motivations of both characters,
their personal motivations for wanting to achieve such things are different. Gilgamesh s motivation
comes from the death of his companion, Enkidu. Gilgamesh states, Shall I not die too? Am I not
like Enkidu? Oh woe has entered my vitals! I have grown afraid of death, so I roam the steppe.
(59. lines 3 5) Enkidu s death instills anguish and panic in Gilgamesh regarding his own fate.
These feelings of uncertainty and anxiety send Gilgamesh on a pursuit to find immortality, so that
he can live forever. Achilles, on the other hand, is motivated by glory, respect, and honor. It is
imperative to Achilles that he be known as the greatest warrior. This title is crucial to Achilles
because of the immortal fame it would bring him. Each character s motivation for wanting to
personally gain superiority is different. For Gilgamesh, it took the death of a companion before
death and immortality became a fear for

A famous philosopher of the name Laozi once said knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment . As a social work student, being able to identify how my life experiences may impact interactions with clients and enhancing my conscious use of self in practice is an essential tool that I can carry with me as I plan my career as a future social worker. Describe your Social Location The ability to reflect and describe my social location by utilizing the addressing model of identity intersectionality has been insightful because it has allowed me to better understand myself, but also the implications my social location has when working with clients. Throughout my life, my skin color changes depending the season and how long I am in the sun. I ve always wanted my skin to be darker even though my family viewed having darker skin as negative. My earliest memories of ethnicity come from being in middle school. There were often ethnicity battles among the different ethnic groups as to which group was the best. Social Issues In Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury wrote the novel Fahrenheit 451, which is a story about a society that believed books were for burning and where thinking was discouraged to fulfill one s achievements. Throughout the novel there are several incidents that can be considered a social criticism for today s standards. Subjects that refer to 1) schooling knowledge, 2) the way society is conformed, 3) the diminishing of family values. These incidents help establish the overall concept of complacency and the atmosphere for the society in Fahrenheit 451. Body One. Color Analysis in Raised the Red Lantern Essay Color Emphasis in Raise the Red Lantern Chen Ning (Jenny) Yen 58935107 ASIA 355 Professor Rui Wang 23/11/2012 Scholars and film critiques have often regarded the fifth generation film Director, Zhang Yi Mou s films as a visually sensual feast (Zhu 26). The predominant use of the color Red in his highly stylized films: Red Sorghum (1988), Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern (1991) are evidence of his trademark visual style thus leading scholars to critically analyze the symbolic representation of the color. I would argue however, in addition to the prevalent use of red in his art house films, there are several supporting colors (black, white, grey, blue), intertwining with the color red. Zhang seems ... Red is often associated with passion and lust, though the latter is true to this film, the symbolic representation of red amount to sexuality as a means of gaining political power within the Chen household. The dining table scene where 3rd mistress arrives fashionably late dressed in a bright red gown shows that she currently holds the power in the amongst the four mistresses. This power , once acquired comes with the consequence of being objectified under the red light to the master s male gaze. Hence referring back to Kong who mentions the power these women gain is ironic. Their victory is the attention of the master s affection for one night. This further emphasizes the lack of power and importance women have under the Confucian ideologies. Perhaps the red tones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Artists like Claude Monet really capture emotion well, in the painting, The Stroll: Camille Monet , Monet painted Camille standing in the middle of a field, it sounds simple. But Monet did such a good job that there seems to be more, there is emotion. That is what makes art special, emotion, and that I can have my own thoughts about what the artist is trying to say through their painting. • 9. `` Brave New World Of Digital Intimacy `` And Mark Twain... Humanity started as small tribes of people working together and benefiting each other, with each member having a clear identity that complements the other small group members. The advancement of civilization threatened this identity. Soon, hordes of people living together in cities, towns, and countries drowned out individual voices and opinions, causing people to lose a sense of identity. While it may be hard to maintain a sense of identity in a crowd, society offers many hidden benefits that can counterbalance the struggles of identity. Two readings, Clive Thompson s Brave New World of Digital Intimacy and Mark Twain s The Dairies of Adam and Eve show how society and sharing the Good life can benefit the individual overall, and might even help an individual find their own identity. In Mark Twain s The Diaries of Adamand Eve, Adam first struggled with the existence of his new life partner Eve. He hated the fact that he never had alone time, and the fact that Eve was starting to name all the animals in the garden. Matters worsened when they had kids. However, near the end of the reading, Adam begun to realize that Eve enriched his life in a way that he never knew before. Adam, in return, also enriched Eve s life. The two found happiness together where they normally would not find it alone. The pair s relationship shows the core idea of forsaking solitude and peace for something more, the companionship and joy of others. In the section under Ten Years Later Adam ... In Lu Xun s Medicine , the authorities within the Chinese government executed a young revolutionist, Yu Hsia (Xia), for his nonconforming political ideals compared to China s political ideals at the early twentieth century. After his execution, Old Chuan brought a roll of steamed bread to soak in Xia s blood since he and his wife believed blood would cure their fatally ill son, Little Chuan (Hua). At the last part of this non chronological short story, the reader discovered that Hua recently passed away, and buried directly opposite from Xia s grave, separated only by the path. In particular, during Xia s superstitious mother visit to Xia s grave, she not only grieved over his death, but observed a crow on a leafless bough. Seeking for hope, she wanted the crow to fly on to his grave as a sign of her son s presence. The crow initially showed no sign of movement, which made her raise the question: What does it mean? • 13. The Tariff Of Foreign Goods A tariff is a tax on foreign goods. The price of foreign goods increases with the tax, and provides revenue for the government, which makes American products more appealing. This is because the foreign goods that were cheaper are now more expensive. However, why was there a need for tariffs in the early 19th century (1800)? The reason is because, American industries were young, Britain flooded the US market with cheap goods after the War of 1812, and foreign goods have been often cheaper. In order to make sure American businesses could prosper, there had to be tariffs on the foreign goods. The tariff of 1816 was the first substantial protective tariff of the American System; supported by Henry Clay, but opposed by John C. Calhounand Southern cotton growers. The tariff of 1824 increased the rate of the protective tariff and opposition in the South grew. In the Tariff of 1828 (Tariff of Abominations), there were higher protective tariffs to New England Mills; and Southerners were outraged including Calhoun. On July 11, 1804, a bullet from Aaron Burr s pistol put an end to the life of Alexander Hamilton. However, it did not put an end to Hamilton s vision for America. • 16. Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social class greatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status. In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that raceis not the novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security (Tate 344). • 22. Compare And Contrast The Federalist And Anti Federalists The Federalist and Anti Federalist Establishing an effective system of government has proven to be an obstacle for centuries. Fortunately, the Founding Father recognized the common flaws of governments, as did many common men in the colonies. Consequently, the ratification of the constitution was vital for a healthy governmental system, though it did bring about much debate and persuasion. There were two main positions which people took during the ratification, those being the Anti Federalist and the Federalist. The Anti Federalist were a diverse assembly involving prominent men such as George Mason and Patrick Henry, and also the most unlikely of individuals, those being Farmers and shopkeepers. The chief complaint about the Constitution was that it confiscated the power from the sates, thereby robbing the people of their power. Oppositely, the Federalist believed in removing some control from the states and imparting that power to the national government, thus making America partially national. Throughout this debate, many letters were shared between the two sides, and eventually, it led to the federalist winning over the colonies. Despite what both parties believed, many legitimate points opposing big government existed. During the course of history, it has been proven that a large government has the tendency to become corruptive over time, thus providing an explanation for the commotion during the ratification. The colonists argued the issues regarding big government while using historical failures as their basis. They reflected mainly on the ancient Greek and Roman republic, which was rich with ancient tales of tyranny and destruction. Both of these cities had republics which broadened their conquests to other countries and in repercussion, their governments became the some of the cruelest and oppressive to ever be. Additionally, even expects had spoken out on the astronomically negative effects that a large republic. The threat of terrorism is ever present, and an attack is likely to occur when least expected. In trying to find out what factors can cause an individual to choose terrorism, it is first necessary to define what terrorism is. The Department of Defense defines terrorismas the calculated use of violence or threat of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological. Per the definition, the terrorists are not giving into a whim of random acts, but these individuals are using calculated moves in order to achieve the purpose of the group. Simply... The individual does not consider the actions taken to achieve the agenda wrong and may tend to project antisocial motivations onto others, creating a polarized we versus they outlook.(3) These members attribute only evil motives to anyone outside the group. The resulting clarity of purpose appeals to those who crave violence to relieve their constant anger. The other common characteristic of the psychologically motivated terrorist is the pronounced need to belong to a group. With some terrorists, group acceptance is a stronger motivator than the stated political objectives of the organization. Such individuals define their social status by group acceptance. More often than not the groups goal may be nearly impossible to achieve. A group that achieves its stated purpose is no longer needed; thus, success threatens the psychological well being of its members. When a terrorist group approaches a stated goal, there may be an inclination to redefine it. The group may reject the achievement as false or inadequate or the result of the duplicity of them . When a solution is close to being reached, objectives change. One effective psychological defense against success is to define goals so broadly that they are impossible to achieve. Radio duo Opie and Anthony echoed the sentiment, saying that the commercial goes right into your very soul. The opening segment to a December 2014 Saturday Night Live segment parodying the United States Military torture report joked the earworm was created by the same psychologists who developed the torture techniques and wondered whether the charity helps the kids or the cars. • 32. Negligence, Liability, And Liability QUESTION PRESENTED Concerns have arisen of a possible lawsuit involving an area of law known as negligence and liability. This memo outlines the principles of this area of law in order to be properly prepared should the firm face any legal consequences. It aims to illustrate under what circumstances can the firm be affected with potential legal action in this area. SHORT ANSWER In legal context, Negligence is behaviour that falls below the reasonable standard of care and liability refers to who can be held accountable for any damages occurred. Legally, the firm can only be at risk if there is evidence that suggests negligent conduct and all four of the following elements are met and proven: a duty of care is owed to an individual, the standard of care is not met, damages have occurred, and the failure to meet the standard of care significantly contributed to the damages that occurred. Along with negligence, there is a possibility of being deemed liable and having to pay for damages. However, even if found negligent, there are tools that the firm use to deflect or lessen liability such as vicarious liability, contributory negligence or voluntary assumption of risk. PRINCIPLES/TOOLS Negligence Negligence, in its legal definition (common law), is behaviour that falls below the standard of care. Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). Victorian notions were rapidly becoming out of date and viewed as wrong, not only economically, but morally as well. These boys though did not give up. They surrounded the covert but the sow got away with the sting of another spear in her flank. The trailing butts hindered her and the sharp, cross cut points were a torment. She blundered into a tree, forcing a spear still deeper; and after that any of the hunters could follow her easily by the drops of vivid blood .(Golding 196?) This quote shows how determined the boys were to get meat. This scene was known as the rape scene because the boys wanted to kill a pig so bad for the meat and the power. • 38. Women and Sports Essay Women and Sports As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change. Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women. • 41. Reaction Paper On Forgiveness ChapterI Introduction Forgiveness Generally, forgiveness is a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that hurt or offended us always remain a part of our life, but forgiveness can lessen its grip on you and help you focus on other, more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt us. Forgiveness doesn t mean that we deny the other person s responsibility for hurting us, and it doesn t minimize or justify the wrong. We can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness is a process that involves a change in emotion and attitude regarding an offender. Most scholars view this an intentional and voluntary process, driven by a deliberate decision to forgive. Theorists differ in the extent to which they believe forgiveness also implies replacing the negative emotions with positive attitudes including compassion and benevolence.
