Comparing Rebekah s Essay Individual And Community

Collective independence.
Individual and community are two words whose meanings contrast each other. An individual is one
who is not reliant on others and exists as its own entity. A community however, is a group of
individuals, whose efforts are combined and improved with help from others, therefore becoming
reliant on each other. Both Rebekah Nathan and Kwame Anthony Appiah speak a great deal on what
makes or breaks a community, what brings individuals together and what separates them. I argue that
communities are successful when individuals are made to feel like their identity is maintained, and
their voice carries weight.

What Is The Conspiracy Of Marilyn Monroe s Suicide
Death Of Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe ,an American starlet, died August 5, 1962 from overdose. Her autopsy shows the
proof. Norma Jean ,also known as Marilyn Monroe, was born June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California.
She grew up moving from one foster home to another as well as moving families multiple times in her
life. She had big dreams ahead of her and cherished becoming a big star and loved attention and
spotlight ever since she was just a small girl. All through her life she never knew or heard from her
father leaving her fatherless and doing anything to get male attention. She was known as a huge sex
symbol and actress and was well known all over the world for her glamorous looks, style, iconic
achievements, and huge movie roles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People think she was murdered because she knew too much information about the president and his
family and they had her executed and assassinated. Being not long after the president himself being
assassinated making many believe that a person had coldblooded feelings towards both of them
suggesting maybe his own wife had it all set up, for her hate for her husband for cheating and a hate
for Marilyn the woman he lay with behind their marriage.
There are many conspiracies about the death of Marilyn Monroe but her autopsy reveals the truth
behind the tragedy. Marilyn Monroe actress, singer, model , playboy, sex symbol died August 5, 1962
of overdose. She took a big dose of pain pills and booze, which mixed and ended her life tragically.
This wasn t something new for her and it eventually costed her life. Without a suicide note,
fingerprints from another human, cries for help, loud noise and blood, shows what occurred to her.
People have many conspiracies about the death of Marilyn Monroe but her own autopsy showed her
overdose and exactly how it occurred and was even brought back to life and replayed, an

CAA Rating
The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) is a purely voluntary system supported by The
Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the National Association of Theatre Owners
(Crecente). The CARA is funded by film distributors and producers who pay a fee to have their film
rated ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). The debate on whether the CARA system works or not is highly
debatable. I, personally, think that the system is very functional. This system provides parents and
other audiences with a recommended rating for a movie. It is a person s choice on whether or not to
deem that rating as appropriate enough for children or others but, they at least have a general idea or
understanding of what the film could entail. The CARA system rates ... Show more content on

Also, not having the film rated does make it more difficult when putting it into theaters. Many U.S.
theaters use the rating system when showing movies and an unrated movie may not be allowed ( What
Do Movie ). Another great thing about the CARA rating system is that they give their rating feedback
to the producer of the film, this allows the producer to make changes to the film, if they decide to, as a
way of changing the rating before it enters theaters (Crecente). DVDs are also supposed to stay with
the same rating when released as the film was in theaters, because they are not considered separate
products ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). In 2007, The Federal Trade Commission described the CARA
rating system as a useful and important tool that parents increasingly use to help them make informed
decisions (qtd in Crecente). I also think that the CARA system is a valuable and functional resource.
This system allows audiences the guidelines to the content of movies. Displaying evidence to an
audience of what they can expect from a film. The CARA rating system truly is a great tool to be
utilized by all audiences when deciding on what to watch at the movies, or at

Kesha Symbolism
The release of Kesha s song, Praying signals the liberation of Kesha s musical purgatory after 4 years.
Over the past few years, Kesha Rose was bound to an exclusive contract with Dr. Luke which hasn t
allowed her to release or produce any new music. She claimed in a lawsuit that this contract enabled
Dr. Luke to control every aspect of her life. Kesha has accused him of both verbal and sexual abuse
during this contract. As of March 2017, Dr. Luke s role as CEO of his record company has been
expired and Sony, the company that owned Dr. Luke s record label didn t renew it, and has released
Kesha from her contract. Now, Kesha is able to release new music she writes on her own, all seen on
her new album Rainbow which Praying is on. To develop the underlying message of the song, Kesha
uses setting, point of view, and symbolism throughout her music video. Coming from a sensitive place
in her life, Kesha uses setting in her music video to convey her emotional state. In the music video
Kesha starts off in a dark basement surrounded by people dressed as pigs, whom she ... Show more

Solely in the music video Kesha states If I am alive, why? Why? What is the lesson? What is the
point?... God give me a sign or I have to give up. I can t do this anymore (Rose). Kesha s point of
view is in the first person revealing only her thoughts and feelings. She does this by speaking in the
background as an inner monologue, letting the viewer/listener know that she is only asking herself
these questions. Kesha is doing this because it shows how she feels and her attitude towards not only
her life, but the concept of why she should be alive. Kesha s point of view demonstrates her true
colors by revealing her tone through rhetorical questions in the beginning of her music video that later
set a path that reveal what happens next through her song and examples of

Telepathy In Stephen King

Writing 121 2017 2018
Telepathy at its Finest
Stephen King, a world renowned author, has had much success in the genres of horror, science fiction
and suspense. Due to his success, King decided to share some of his tricks of the trade in order to help
aspiring authors with his book On Writing. Before completing this book, writing to me was just a pain.
I remember this one quote that said, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all
others: read a lot and write a lot (King 145). I proceed to think, well shoot, I don t do either of those
things. No wonder I don t like writing and I m not very good at it. Then as I continued through the
book, I thought back to the part where King described writing as a form of telepathy, and it changed
my whole perspective. Art has always been a way to express yourself and share ideas in my mind. The
idea of writing doing that, and in such a direct way, kind of blew my mind. The more I thought about
it, the more it made sense to me. The writer and the reader were connected through time and space
with these shared thoughts. The best example of this is the rabbit in the cage: The most interesting
thing here isn t even the carrot munching rabbit in the cage, but the number on it s back. . .This is what
we re both looking at, and we all see it. . .We re not even in the same year together, let alone the same
room . . . except we are together (King 106). The freedom that is opened up to the reader when

Speech Sounds Octavia Butler Analysis
Octavia Butler, the author of Speech Sounds and many other short stories, is a well known author for
her feminist point of view which might be attributed to her father who died when she was young and
her mother taking on the role as the father figure as well as the mother figure. After the bus stop,
Valerie Rye, the protagonist in this short story who goes by Rye for a lot of the short story, met
Obsidian who Rye assumes his name to be; also, he used to be a LAPD officer. Rye immediately trusts
Obsidian to drive her to Pasadena to see what is left of her family. In Octavia Butlers Speech Sounds,
the men and women have reverse gender roles throughout this short story than we are used to because
men in our world tend to have more power over women. After the bus came to a full and complete
stop, Rye left the bus and she saw Obsidian who was a big man, young, nearly bearded with dark thick
hair (Butler 409). It was unusual because the Obsidian was wearing a Los Angeles Police Department
uniform even though LAPD had been dismantled many years ago, and replaced with neighborhood
watchmen along with armed men. Police officers, in today s world, either male or female, are assumed
to be indestructible even though we know that they get hurt some times in their line of work. Also,
they are believed to be trustworthy and dependable for our needs. After Obsidian and Rye were
driving in their car and were disturbed by the un named man and woman who ran out of a

Lund Research Ltd (2012) described informed consent as the participant s understanding that they are
taking part in research and what the research requires of them. Global Health Research (2000)
revealed that informed consent is described in the Belmont Report as allowing for the confirmation of
autonomy among all research participants. It is further said that informed consent is not just a legal
requirement or document to be signed but it is a communication process between the researcher and
the participant that starts before the research is initiated and continues throughout the study.
Where possible, participants should be informed about the nature of the study and all the aspect of the
research that are likely to affect their willingness to become participants (Macaskill, 2008). The

the possible outcomes of the research, as well as associated demands, any prospective research
benefits, incentives for participation, discomforts, inconveniences, risks that the participants may face

Essay about Ford Pinto
Ford Pinto Case
The humankind history has probably never known one completely successful product a product that
would never break down or malfunction. The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been
and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small
percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive
malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question.
(Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Is it the engineer who designed it, or
the person who developed the process? Ford Pinto is one of the examples of such repeated
malfunction of a product, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the
technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was
altered as well.
As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to
accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product
planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25
month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product
development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which
dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space.
Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be
positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4)
When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be
punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the
tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee
Iacocca, on importance of the safety. He was known for saying . ..safety doesn t sell (Dowie, 5) and
that only meaning of that phrase was that he did not

Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System
The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an
IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the
disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive.
Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by
partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem
hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the
physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a
SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to
configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the
manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the
drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should
allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special
IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). Simply setting the jumper itself is a simpler and delivers more consistent
results. The second step is to identify the IDE headers on the computer motherboard with the help of

Iran-Iraq War Essay
Iran Iraq War
The eight year Iran Iraq War was, by the standards of international conflicts, a very long one. It lasted
longer than both World War I and World War II. In this conflict, the two most powerful states in the
Persian Gulf, Iran and Iraq, who were the world s largest producers of petroleum, were locked in
mortal combat and appeared intent on destroying each other. The war began when Iraq invaded Iran,
simultaneously launching an invasion by air and land into Iranian territory on September 1980 and
ended with a United Nations brokered ceasefire in 1988. The causes of the war are deeply rooted in
the ideology and ambitions of the leaders of the countries to gain and maintain control over internal

Moreover, what had formerly been the Imperial Iranian military was greatly despoiled, with much of
the officer corps fleeing the Islamic Revolution. Also radical Marxists were still battling the religious
fundamentalists in part of the country. Because of all of the above factors, Iraq had a uniquely
promising chance to strike a devastating blow at its eastern neighbor, establishing Saddam as the pre
eminent leader in the Persian Gulf region and perhaps so discrediting the new Iranian government as
to bring about its ultimate downfall. Saddam also wanted to put an end to religious propaganda
directed against Iraq s secular regime by the Islamic government of Iran, which had come to power in
1979 under Khomeini. Khomeini, and during the Iranian Revolution, and most Iranian Muslims
belonged to the Shiite sect of Islam. Hussein feared that the propaganda would undermine the loyalty
of Iraqi Shiites, who comprised about 60 percent of his country s population. On March 1980, Saddam
received a pretext to engage in war when an assassination attempt was made on Deputy Prime
Minister Tariq Aziz, by Iranian backed rebel group Al Dawaa, followed by the bombing on the funeral

Impact of Sound Upon a Films Thematic Premise
When exploring the significance of sound upon a film s thematic concept, one must identify the
fundamental components of the individual film score and its relationship to the development of the
plot. Sound has been a dominant feature of the audience s cinematic experience from early in the art
form s history. Initially existing as a simple piano score that was used to assist in the realisation of
certain on screen emotions, the use of sound has been greatly developed and is now considered as one
of the richest sources of meaning in film art. (Giannetti, 2002) This is evident through the
incorporation and combination of sound elements such as music, dialogue, sound effects and silence
that relate directly to the emotions presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the development of a films theme, sound can become highly significant by intensifying a mood and
in creating a sense of location, allowing the viewer to become increasingly involved in the world of
the film (Phillips, 2002).
Starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as detectives, David Fincher s psychological thriller Se7en
depicts themes with theological, philosophical, moral and cultural facets (Vandelist, 2000),
specifically the seven deadly sins, serial killing, violence, death, the chase, city life and good verses
evil. Playing the protagonist, Kevin Spacey depicts these themes through the murder of seven people,
each representing one of the seven deadly sins. Through exploiting the soundtrack, Fincher avoids
commenting overtly on some of these themes (particularly city life), as they are ever present through
the sound in virtually every scene. (Giannetti, 2002)
The soundscape of this film is typical of the thriller genre, developing the concept that the audience
fears what they cannot see, by using off screen sound effects to create constant anxiety. The musical
score is used to intensify this particular emotion through modern, atonal and dissonant melodic lines
and harmonies. Such musical lines are often associated with audience feelings of neurosis and
paranoia. (Giannetti, 2002). Furthermore, music and atmosphere are used to foreshadow the action and
to prepare the audience for a particular event.

Dreamtime is the beginning, the aboriginal equivalent of the Big Bang theory. According to aboriginal
understanding, The Dreamtime is the creation of the world, the time when their Ancestor Beings
existed. These Ancestor Beings awakened the dark and silent world by breaking through the earth s

When we began our experiment we were attempting to figure out which ratio of baking soda to

There is a need for each element of this so called quilt, but some patches (scenes) contain more
importance and understanding than other patches. The levels of an author s writing are how scenes
impact a person. In the retrospect of the daring and defying boundaries of this novel, entitled The
Scarlet Letter , there is a certain pull in areas of the novel that grasp the feeling and most important
areas to be covered. As the hearts of all readers searched this novel, five scenes pulled on the strings of
those encountered this novel. Scenes of this nature include, the point that Hester pronounced her

Concentric Zone Model Research Paper
There are three main models to living, those models are known as concentric zone models, sector
models, and multiple nuclei models. The concentric zone model is an early theoretical model that
explains urban social structures. The sector model is known as the Hoyt model. The sector model
allows for an outward development of growth. The sector model grows in a wedge shaped zone. The
multiple nuclei model is an economic model. It does not grow around one central core. The city I live
in is Surprise. The multiple nuclei model represents my city because everything is close and jammed
next to each other. The model I would like better would be a combination of the sector model and
multiple nuclei model.
The concentric zone model is described as an industrial city that expands away from the center and
causes a sequence of circles. In 1925, Ernest Burgess created the concentric zone model. Hotels,
offices, banks, and amusement are located in the center. The transition zone is the second layer where
there are abandoned buildings, factories, starvation, debt, and high crime. The third layer is known as

Among the 7 participants, 2 were recruited with no previous experience with the Fitbit One, who were
asked then to interact with the device during an interview in a think aloud protocol. Three participants
used the device for 3 days, and the remaining 2 were expert users. As per result of the interviews that
focused on the usability of the Fitbit One, the author explores his theory which mentions 4 phases
users would pass through when dealing with the Fitbit: i) Introduction a user explores the device to
understand what it shows and how it works; ii) Trial counting (or feeling ) number of steps and

Analysis Of The Flipped Classroom
This sounds like a great idea but, will every student really have time or access to watching these
videos? I don t think it really said anything about this in the article. That s a concern of mine. The
Flipped Classroom really is a fantastic idea. I just don t know if every student would really watch the
videos all the time. It s sometimes hard to do some homework at night. And if their parents weren t
involved in their child s education they wouldn t push them to watch those videos. I guess they could
just have the videos for when students need to see a lesson again. But, I feel like teachers would use it

Issues Faced by Police Departments in Today s Society
Issues Facing Police Departments in Today s Society
Introduction
Over the last several years, most police departments have been facing numerous financial challenges.
The main reason is law enforcement agencies are expected to do more with less and the stagnant
economy. The combination of these factors has been placing pressure on many departments to begin
imposing budget cuts. Evidence of this can be seen with a survey that was conducted by the
University of North Carolina. They found that 67% of police departments made some kind of budget
cuts for 2011. The most severe reductions were occurring in large police departments such as Los
Angeles, Atlanta and Detroit. (Delfem, 2011, pp. 199 205) This is illustrating one of the most pressing
issues affecting a wide variety of police departments across the country. To fully understand what is
happening requires: examining the situation, how they are able to interact with other agencies (i.e.
state / federal) and recommending the way this relationship can be improved. Together, these elements
will offer specific insights about how police departments can effectively address this problem.
The Current Situation Since the last recession began in 2008, many law enforcement agencies have
been dealing with budgetary cuts. This is because all levels of government have been seeing shortfalls
in tax revenues. In most cases, the situation is so severe that municipalities and states have been forced
to deal with large budget deficits.

San Mateo And San Juan Creek
What is a watershed? A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains
off of it goes into the same place. You think every creek is the same but in reality they re not. In this
essay we are comparing San Mateo and San Juan creek.
San Mateo creek is the last pristine creek in southern California flows from from its origin to the
ocean over mostly undeveloped land. The runoff is about 22 miles (35 km) long, flowing in a
generally southwesterly direction. This creek is most undeveloped watersheds on South Coasts, San
Mateo Creeks drainage basin covers 139 square miles (360 km).
San Juan creek begins in Santa Ana mountains cross agriculture and urbanization is channelized as it
enters the Pacific Ocean
Doheny Beach. San Juan is a 29 mile (47 km) stream in Orange County. It consists of a catchment
basin encompassing 160 miles (347 km). San Juan creeks wetlands were totaling over 300 acres (1.2
km) before the population of Orange County began.
Point Sources (San Mateo):
The San Mateo creek has lots point source for pollution. I ll be naming 2 examples. One example is
San Mateo Countywide Water Pollution Prevention Program, also known as SMCWPPP. This source
helps by reducing the amount of pollutants that enters the storm drain system. The staff at the program
check the drain system for pollution or other sources of illegal dumping. The staff also go to the public
and talk about how to reduce the stormwater pollution. Stormwater has lots

Zirren has always supported me from an academic point of view as well. We pretty much had all our

Essay about The Results of Children in Fatherless Homes
Divorce and out of wedlock childbearing are now epidemic in American society. Both forms of
disrupted families are harmful to children and to society. The children of single parents are more likely
to do poorly in school, commit crimes, and become single parents themselves. In addition, the increase
in single parent families contributes to such social problems as poverty, crime, and a decline in the
quality of public education.
Divorce and out of wedlock childbirth are transforming the lives of American children. In the postwar
generation more than 80 percent of children grew up in a family with two biological parents who were
married to each other. By 1980 only 50 percent could expect to spend their entire childhood in an

Indeed, they help to explain why family structure is such an explosive issue for Americans. The debate
about it is not simply about the social scientific evidence, although that is surely an important part of
the discussion. It is also a debate over deeply held and often conflicting values. How do we begin to
reconcile our long standing belief in equality and diversity with an impressive body of evidence that
suggests that not all family structures produce equal outcomes for children? How can we square
traditional notions of public support for dependent women and children with a belief in women s right
to pursue autonomy and independence in childbearing and child rearing? How do we uphold the
freedom of adults to pursue individual happiness in their private relationships and at the same time
respond to the needs of children for stability, security, and permanence in their family lives? What do
we do when the interests of adults and children conflict? These are the difficult issues at stake in the
debate over family structure.

Unlike Parachlamydia, S.negevensis can survive in encystment, which is believed to contribute to
survival of the bacteria. S.negevensis developmental cycle occurs within a Simkania containing
vacuole (SnCV), which is different from other human pathogenic Chlamydia in its morphology and
time of progression. Even though the mechanisms are unknown, the importance of retrograde
transport for nutrient acquisition and growth was determined by knockdown of the proteins crucial in
retrograde transport (14). When the proteins involved in retrograde transport were depleted this
affected the development of SnCV and negatively impacted S.negevensis infection. However, the
sources of nutrients like lipids and amino acids is yet not understood. The SnCV of S.negevensis is
distinct as it forms a continuous membrane system that makes an intimate interaction with human
endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of epithelial cells and macrophages. Unlike other pathogenic strains that
induce ER stress, caused by inaccurate protein folding and processing, S.negevensis forms unique
interaction with ER that inhibits ER stress. The induced stress is the cell s way of attempting to bring
the cell back to homeostasis by triggering unfolded protein response (UPR) or inducing
apoptosis/autophagy if the imbalance of protein is not resolved. Additionally, the

Hysterical Women In A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams once said that, Every artist has a basic premise pervading his whole life, and that
premise can provide the impulse to everything he creates. For me the dominating premise has been the
need for understanding and tenderness and fortitude among individuals trapped by circumstance.
Williams is an individual trapped by circumstance who gained inspiration for many of the characters
in A Streetcar Named Desire from his own life. The play consists of a dysfunctional bunch of
characters: a hysterical woman, a ditzy wife, and an aggressive husband, each with a connection to
Williams s personal life.

Stanley Kowalski, the aggressive husband, represents all the men who have mistreated Tennessee in

loved poker and drinking and his life at the International Shoe Company but not, Williams felt, his
doubly strange, gay writer son, (Today in Lit). Stanley s personality could not be more different than
Blanche s; in the same way Williams personality contradicts his father s.
Stella, Stanley s wife, isn t the sharpest tool in the shed. She is fairly ignorant to her situation, and to
the situations of those around her. In the story Stella doesn t create her own thoughts, she simply

Stanley while Stella is waiting to deliver her baby at the hospital. Blanche, being the protective and
caring sister that she is, tells Stella the truth, but doesn t get the reaction she expects. Instead Stella
says, I couldn t believe her story and go on living with Stanley, (Williams 165), and kicks Blanche to

past, as she represents the ignorant and unaccepting society that he lived

According to my analysis, the problems are distrust between the managers and employees and
unfairness of rewards between the employees and supervisors. In order to keep productivity and
profitability of the plant, it should resolve the issues urgently before the situation deteriorated further. I
recommend the option two is better for Bent to deal with these problems for the plant. Firstly,
communication is the most important factor that affects the relationship between managers and
employees. If the managers could listen advices of the work in time from their employees, it not only
will be more easier to handle the existing problem in the company, but also will improve the
relationship between managers and employees because the staff feel the company takes, to respect and
to trust them, feel oneself is in enterprise s one, and they can have the confidence and the sense of
responsibility for the development of their company. Secondly, it is to give the appreciation by
managers to employees frequently that will improve the employee morale because they will feel more
attached to their company. As the result of this, employees will devote to their work without any
complaint. Consequently, because of the improvement of relationship and employee morale, the
efficiency and productivity of company will improve with the efforts of all staff and give them
corresponding reward. Although the first option is probably to resolve the crisis

Key Concepts Of Identity, Identification, Place And Social...
I am writing to compare two articles from two different sources. I will be exploring the key concepts
of identity, identification, place and social memory and how theses sociological concepts are displayed
within the articles. Identity is the process that informs the way in which people see themselves and the
groups they belong to and also how other groups categorize a person. Pountney and Maric (2015)
pages 144 5. Identity is relational, situational and multiple. It is better to understand identification as a
process of continual negotiation and renegotiation. This statement confirms our identities are forever
changing due to our circumstances or surrounding environments and certain aspects of our identities
are chosen and negotiated. The Sikh youths in the UK prove this theory through this statement; There
s a time to be Indian and a time to be British K. Hall (2002). Identification is the ongoing process that
describes the way in which individuals and groups see themselves and the way others see them. It
refers to the way people develop their cultural identity; language, ethnicity, religion and social class
are all examples of social characteristics that give people a shared sense of belonging. Pountney and
Maric (2015) pages 144 5. Yi Fu Tuan discussed Place as a location created by human experiences

Antitrust Law And Economics Of Product Distribution
Introduction
This Literature review explains if a franchise is high or low risk way of entering into a market. It also
explains whether a franchisee is suited for a certain franchise. Franchises can be seen all over the
world, with everyone being introduced to them, as consumers, from a young age (Longenecker et al.,
2011). Thomas and Seid (2000) agree with this and believes due to it, people think they understand a
lot more about a franchise than they actually do, creating myths about the rate of success and the ease
of entry. Antitrust Law and Economics of Product Distribution (2006, p.5) defines a franchise in a 3

Many years later, franchising became more entrenched in the UK with the advent of the tied pub
system. Following the introduction of legislation making it very expensive to keep and maintain a
public house in the 18th century, licensees began to struggle to operate successfully. Recognising that
it was in their interests to have a secure and stable market for their products, brewers began to offer
publicans the opportunity of financial support in return for exclusivity over what was sold in the pub.
Thus a familiar system, that remains widely used in the licensed trade today, was born. (Thebfa.org,
2015)
Types of Franchises
There are three types of franchises; these are business format franchises, product franchise and
manufacturing franchises (Referenceforbusiness.com, 2015).
Business Format Franchise
Business Format Franchises are the most common out of the three, this franchise gives the right for
entrepreneurs to use their name and product. The franchisee usually benefits from the assistance given
by the franchisor, but has to pay fees and royalties over the franchise contract. The most noticeable
example of this type of franchise is McDonalds, which is one of the most successful companies in the
world (Referenceforbusiness.com, 2015).

Bibliography on Globalization and Health
Globalization and Health Globalization has had a huge effect on health, both positive and negative.
Because of increased mobility due to globalization, health professionals are able to cross borders with
stunning speed in order to deliver care and patients in need of certain treatments have benefited from
the ability to leave their country for care. The Internet makes it easier to alert the relevant authorities
to the outbreak of a disease and to share information on health issues. However, globalization has had
negative effects on health as well. When the Europeans first traveled and colonized the world, they
brought with them terrible diseases, killing over 90% of the population. The Aztec, Maya, and Inca
tribes were the most affected by these diseases. International travel and globalization has brought
many diseases, previously native to certain countries, all over the world. For example, Chagas
Disease, a disease spread by insects brought over from Mexican immigrants, has infected more than
500,000 citizens of America. Illegal drug trade, another result of globalization, is also having a
negative effect on health. Another negative effect of globalization is the recognition of medical
degrees of less developed countries by developed countries. Young medical professionals from less
developed countries finish their training in developed nations and tend to stay to develop their careers
and raise their families. This drains less developed countries of needed health care

Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Before I begin my comparison, I think it is important to first
discuss Criminal Law in general. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines
conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and
that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . (Criminal Law, 2017)
Most criminal laws are defined in a statute, meaning they were enacted through legislation. Criminal

Mens Rea refers to criminal intent. Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is
required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the
final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law
for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing.
Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this
comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America
and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also
share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain
individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained
by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the
common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide
current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United
States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from
and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must abide by the
Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK relies strictly on
legislation and case

The Body Theory And Its Strength And Weaknesses
Am I the same person today as I was yesterday? Will I be the same person a few years from now as I
am now? Kagan explains a few theories that can help with figuring out what makes me, me. There is
the soul theory, the body theory, and the personality theory. The body theory consists of the brain and
body theory and the torso and body theory. After looking into each theory carefully through Kagan s
lectures, I found that there were flaws in all three theories. The theory that I favor, however, is the
body theory and more specifically the brain aspect of that theory. In my essay I will discuss why I
favor the body theory and its strength and weaknesses. I will also discuss Kagan s take on survival.
To start with, the body theory is not mysterious like the soul theory. If I believed in souls, and favored
the soul theory, how could I prove that I did not get a new soul every five hours or three days? I would
not be able to. The body theory means having the same body. This also means having most of your
same body. For example, in Star Wars when Luke Skywalker got his hand cut off, he still had most of
his body; therefore, he is the same person.
Now there are some problems with this theory as Kagan points out. The problem is resurrection. There
is no current proof of a body being resurrected from the ground, but there is a possibility of bodily
resurrection that cannot be denied. The issue with bodily resurrection is that it draws the question, is
the resurrected body really

The anesthetic was developed by scientists at Baxter Laboratories. It was used in clinical use in Japan
in 1990. Third, sodium pentothal was founded in the early 1930s by Ernest H. Volwiler and Donalee
L. Tabern, working for Abbot Laboratories. It was first used in humans on March 8, 1934, by Dr.
Ralph M. Walters in a study of its properties. Three months later, Dr. John S. Lundy started a clinical
trial of thiopental at the mayo Clinic at request of Abbott. (Wikipedia, 2010) Fourth, halothane was
first synthesized by C. W. Suckling of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in 1951 and was first used
by M. Johnstone in Manchester in 1956. Halothane became popular as a nonflammable general
anesthetic replacing other volatile anesthetics such as diethyl ether and cyclopropane. (Wikipedia,
2010) Halothane is no longer used in the U.S. because of its problems, such as it took it a long time to
put a patient asleep and then longer to wake the patient back up. Plus if the patient is put under for a
longer amount of time during a operation more gas will build up in the fats and then later go up to the
brain. (Kervin, 2010) Fifth, lidocaine, the first amino amide type local anesthetic of its time, was first

Forward Facing Car Seat Safety
The most exciting part of raising a child is watching them reach different milestones of their life.
From sitting up, to talking and walking, to their first birthday most parents are ecstatic and dismal. No
parent would ever put their child in any danger or to purposely hurt them. But by simply keep kids in a
rear facing position can be 500% times safer. In 100 car accidents, 8 children will die or have serious
injuries in a rear facing car seat compared to the 40 children that will die or have serious injuries in
forward facing car seats. Putting a child in a forward facing car seat, before their second birthday, that
creates uninformed decisions that can cause incomplete growth, serious injuries, and death. First, the
biggest problem is the myths that go along with car seats and car seat safety. CNN reports that 24% of
parents will turn their children around before they reach two. One reason is the huge myth that a child
has outgrown the position of a rear facing position. Most car seats have adjustable positions as the
child grows, as well as, have weight and height limits printed in the car seat manual. ... Show more

Children s bodies are not proportional and differ from an adult s body. Their spine is very delicate
from being undeveloped and is made up of spacious, separate bones that are made up of cartilage. The
cartilage is in the process of turning into bone in the first three years of a child s life and continues
until the child reaches puberty. The spine also goes from a flat shape to a saddle shape, which can hold
together stronger if the head is thrown back. If the spine is stretched more than ¼ inch it can cause the
spine to rupture. Therefor, the neck and spine cannot handle the force from the collision even at low

Metallica Rips Napster Summary
Critical Response to Metallica Rips Napster by Christopher Jones
Christopher Jones article Metallica Rips Napster is in an early summary of the 2000, Metallica v.
Napster, Inc., California lawsuit. The lawsuit included the peer to peer file sharing website, Napster,
and University of Southern California, Indiana University, and Yale University. Most people don t
even think about file sharing, in this day and age it is generally an everyday behavior. It is very simple
for a document or file to be shared between friends or even strangers over the internet. However, in
April of the year 2000 the heavy metal band Metallica and the peer to peer audio file sharing website
Napster were in the center of a lawsuit that would change how online file sharing works forever.
Metallica was the first band to speak out and take action against music piracy on the internet. They
filed lawsuit in the state of California against Napster. The lawsuit also included three universities,
those being; Yale, University of Southern California, and Indiana University. While the three school
only received cease and desist letters alerting the administrators of the copyright infringement.
Metallica originally wanted one hundred thousand dollars per copyright flout, it is not specified if they
did receive that amount. However they requested that about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Napster, Inc. lawsuit changed the way that file sharing happens. The lawsuit that included Napster and
three universities was based on copyright infringement and RICO violations. Metallica sued Napster
based on the fact that their songs were being shared for free and that a demo of their song I Disappear
was being circulated so much that it was being played on the radio. The lawsuit brought up the
question of are the creators of a product or service responsible for how it gets used? The answer to that
is an opinion but in the end of the lawsuit Metallica won and Napster had to shut down and ban 33500

Finding Truth In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is one of the best Greek literature written by Sophocles, who was an Athenian
tragedian. He wrote more than 120 plays and only a few remains to this day. In his play, Oedipus is the
son of Jocasta and Laius, the king of Thebes. But because he was destined to kill his father and marry
his mother, according to a prophecy, they wanted him dead by giving baby Oedipus to a sherperd. The
merciful shepherd ended up giving Oedipus to a shepherd from Corinth and later on, he was adopted
by the royal family. Aware of the prophecy he decides to head to Thebes, where he could not kill his
parents But on his way he murdered an old man, who was his father and his bodyguards. At Thebes,
he married Jocasta and deny that he is the murderer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Oedipus, he did not even know that he killed his father on his way to Thebes, he did not
even know that Jocasta was his mother but for some mistake in life, there are big consequences.
Although Oedipus wanted to avoid the truth, he was obliged to accept it and suffer the consequences.
And he ended up saying Take me away, and haste to the place out of the way, far from Thebes! Take
me away, my friends, the greatly miserable, the most accursed, whom God too hates above all men on
earth (Oedipus, 1526 1529) When Jocasta learned the truth, she hanged herself and now, Oedipus, the
pollution of Thebes had to live the city in pain. The dream and the goal he had for the city of Thebes
as a king was now gone. The 21th century compared to the story of Oedipus the King is completely
different. In this century, a person who dared to kill a political leader or a monarch will spend their life
in prison and in many countries incest is completely illegal. In Canada, people committing incest can
get a maximum of 14 years in

Commodity In Karl Marx s Substranged Labor
In the first chapter of Capital, Commodities Karl Marx introduces to his readers the relationships
between things and human beings. He defined commodity as a material or a product as a way to
understand how value works. His thing was to get his readers more involve in understanding that the
labor of time is necessary to produce the commodity. He uses bottles and pencils as an example to
explain commodities. According to Marx when embodied labor time is measurable, it makes the
creation of relative value possible. This only happen when the material existence of things is put out
of sight in the market, but the value itself become an abstraction. The term use value, displays the use
of wearing a coat that can keep a person warm. And the word ... Show more content on

The labor is measured by the amount of time employee spend working. When the employer tries to
impose the norm this is when the disciplining of bodies comes to place. Marx argument of the
relationships between things are only possible through the relationships between human beings, which
means that capitalist mode of production can only make it look like it s the other way around, with the
relationships between things can also makes the relationship between people possible. What Marx was
trying to do was to emphasize the reversal and the existing of reality in human. In The Estranged
Labor the worker becomes alienated in the aspects and the Servitude of power. He explained, that
when the worker becomes a servant of an object rather than being the object of a secondary to the
worker s needs, meaning that the poorer they are the more riches they produce. The labor that is under
free enterprise is basically use to continue the system in which a worker is supposed to serve and
products labor. The more the worker works, the more they are denied the abilities of life. Many
workers end up working in order to get objects, rather than getting substance and by doing so they end
up getting a little of

The Damned Thing Literary Devices
In Ambrose Bierce s short story, The Damned Thing, specific writing choices allow the reader into
believing the unimaginable. The use of literary devices is essential to illustrate what the narrator and
the reader cannot see. In doing so, the terms used to articulate the indescribable are thought provoking.
How do humans view the natural world? Throughout the section on page 47, Shadows of Carcosa,
Bierce shatters the quintessential monster archetype, by creating a beast that the human eye cannot
see. Through the use of descriptive language, characters, setting, style and tone, Bierce produces a
piece of work that goes against the normative horror story.
On page 47, there is extensive detail of everything but the creature. I was ... Show more content on

As the narrator Williams Harker shadows Hugh Morgan, he becomes aware that Morgan is severely
frightened. What is it? What the devil is it? I asked. That Damned Thing! he replied, without turning
his head. His voice was husky and unnatural. He trembled visibly (page 47). This quote highlights
Morgan s role in the making of the creature. Bierce needs Morgan s character to illustrate the presence
of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s witness to the strange
circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was based solely off of Morgan s
journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad. Likewise, if the recount was solely based
off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined to believe he had gone mad. Bierce s use of
Harker s character and the journal verifies the bizarre happenings. Additionally, Harker and Morgan
are used to advance the imagery of the imperceptible being. Before the smoke of the discharge had
cleared away I heard a loud savage cry a scream like that of a wild animal and flinging his gun upon
the ground Morgan sprang away and ran swiftly from the spot. At the same instant I was thrown
violently to the ground by the impact of something unseen in the smoke some soft, heavy substance
that seemed thrown against me with great force. Here we see that even though the characters
themselves cannot see the creature, through their circumstances the

External Forces Of Walmart
Environmental forces can have just as big of an impact on any industry as internal forces. It is
imperative that the management of a companies both big and small pay attention to environmental
forces. The reason being is that unlike internal forces, companies have little to no control over
environmental forces. External forces are outside factors or influences that can affect the growth,
operation, or survival of a corporation. To have a better understanding of external forces, one can refer
to Porter s Five Forces. Porter s Five Forces are perfect examples of environmental forces that can
affect the growth, operation, or survival of a corporation. Porter s Five Forces identifies competition in
the industry, power of customers, power of suppliers, threat of substitute products, and potential of
new entrants into the industry as five external forces that shapes every industry. (Investopedia) In this
assignment I will explain how competition is impacting Walmart s market share in the US food retail
industry. The United States has one of the most diverse food retail industry with several major chains
competing for a share. Over the years, Walmart has risen to the forefront of the US food retail industry
while knocking off competitors such as Kroger, Albertsons, and Costco. By the end of 2016, Walmart
and Sam s Club held a commanding 21.4% of the US food retail market share with Kroger coming in
second place with 10.2%. (Produce Retailer) Although Walmart and Sam s Club has a

  • 2. Comparing Rebekah s Essay Individual And Community Geoff Ward ENG 101 Composition C. Hammond 14 Oct 14 Collective independence. Individual and community are two words whose meanings contrast each other. An individual is one who is not reliant on others and exists as its own entity. A community however, is a group of individuals, whose efforts are combined and improved with help from others, therefore becoming reliant on each other. Both Rebekah Nathan and Kwame Anthony Appiah speak a great deal on what makes or breaks a community, what brings individuals together and what separates them. I argue that communities are successful when individuals are made to feel like their identity is maintained, and their voice carries weight. In her essay, Community and Diversity , Rebekah Nathan unveils ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. CAA Rating The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) is a purely voluntary system supported by The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the National Association of Theatre Owners (Crecente). The CARA is funded by film distributors and producers who pay a fee to have their film rated ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). The debate on whether the CARA system works or not is highly debatable. I, personally, think that the system is very functional. This system provides parents and other audiences with a recommended rating for a movie. It is a person s choice on whether or not to deem that rating as appropriate enough for children or others but, they at least have a general idea or understanding of what the film could entail. The CARA system rates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, not having the film rated does make it more difficult when putting it into theaters. Many U.S. theaters use the rating system when showing movies and an unrated movie may not be allowed ( What Do Movie ). Another great thing about the CARA rating system is that they give their rating feedback to the producer of the film, this allows the producer to make changes to the film, if they decide to, as a way of changing the rating before it enters theaters (Crecente). DVDs are also supposed to stay with the same rating when released as the film was in theaters, because they are not considered separate products ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). In 2007, The Federal Trade Commission described the CARA rating system as a useful and important tool that parents increasingly use to help them make informed decisions (qtd in Crecente). I also think that the CARA system is a valuable and functional resource. This system allows audiences the guidelines to the content of movies. Displaying evidence to an audience of what they can expect from a film. The CARA rating system truly is a great tool to be utilized by all audiences when deciding on what to watch at the movies, or at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the past few years, Kesha Rose was bound to an exclusive contract with Dr. Luke which hasn t allowed her to release or produce any new music. She claimed in a lawsuit that this contract enabled Dr. Luke to control every aspect of her life. Kesha has accused him of both verbal and sexual abuse during this contract. As of March 2017, Dr. Luke s role as CEO of his record company has been expired and Sony, the company that owned Dr. Luke s record label didn t renew it, and has released Kesha from her contract. Now, Kesha is able to release new music she writes on her own, all seen on her new album Rainbow which Praying is on. To develop the underlying message of the song, Kesha uses setting, point of view, and symbolism throughout her music video. Telepathy In Stephen King Allie Balzer Writing 121 2017 2018 Telepathy at its Finest Stephen King, a world renowned author, has had much success in the genres of horror, science fiction and suspense. Due to his success, King decided to share some of his tricks of the trade in order to help aspiring authors with his book On Writing. Before completing this book, writing to me was just a pain. I remember this one quote that said, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot (King 145). I proceed to think, well shoot, I don t do either of those things. No wonder I don t like writing and I m not very good at it. Then as I continued through the book, I thought back to the part where King described writing as a form of telepathy, and it changed my whole perspective. Art has always been a way to express yourself and share ideas in my mind. The idea of writing doing that, and in such a direct way, kind of blew my mind. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me. The writer and the reader were connected through time and space with these shared thoughts. The best example of this is the rabbit in the cage: The most interesting thing here isn t even the carrot munching rabbit in the cage, but the number on it s back. . .This is what we re both looking at, and we all see it. . .We re not even in the same year together, let alone the same room . . . except we are together (King 106). • 7. Speech Sounds Octavia Butler Analysis Octavia Butler, the author of Speech Sounds and many other short stories, is a well known author for her feminist point of view which might be attributed to her father who died when she was young and her mother taking on the role as the father figure as well as the mother figure. After the bus stop, Valerie Rye, the protagonist in this short story who goes by Rye for a lot of the short story, met Obsidian who Rye assumes his name to be; also, he used to be a LAPD officer. Rye immediately trusts Obsidian to drive her to Pasadena to see what is left of her family. In Octavia Butlers Speech Sounds, the men and women have reverse gender roles throughout this short story than we are used to because men in our world tend to have more power over women. After the bus came to a full and complete stop, Rye left the bus and she saw Obsidian who was a big man, young, nearly bearded with dark thick hair (Butler 409). It was unusual because the Obsidian was wearing a Los Angeles Police Department uniform even though LAPD had been dismantled many years ago, and replaced with neighborhood watchmen along with armed men. Police officers, in today s world, either male or female, are assumed to be indestructible even though we know that they get hurt some times in their line of work. Also, they are believed to be trustworthy and dependable for our needs. After Obsidian and Rye were driving in their car and were disturbed by the un named man and woman who ran out of a ... The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question. (Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25 month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space. Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4) When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee Iacocca, on importance of the safety. • 12. Installing An Ide Disk On A Linux System The purpose of this document is to detail the various steps needed to install, make ready, and mount an IDE disk on a Linux system. The process starts first with the cabling and physical installation of the disk. Next it is key to ensure the computer s BIOS is properly configured to allow access to the drive. Once the machine can see the physical drive the next step is to prepare the drive to accept data by partitioning the drive for the desired disk layout. Finally, the drive is mounted within the filesystem hierarchy so it may be accessed by the end user. Installing the Drive The first step in this process is the physical installation of the drive. While the process of installing an IDE drive is more involved than a SATA drive it is still easily accomplished if a few precautious are followed. The first step is to configure the jumper on the back of the IDE drive. Refer to the sticker on the drive itself or the manufacturer data sheet to identify the correct jumper position. Move the jumper on the back of the drive to the master position. There may be a CS or CSEL which stands for Cable Select. This should allow the computer to make the assignment based on cable position however this requires a special IDE cable (Chukov, n.d.). The war began when Iraq invaded Iran, simultaneously launching an invasion by air and land into Iranian territory on September 1980 and ended with a United Nations brokered ceasefire in 1988. Impact of Sound Upon a Films Thematic Premise When exploring the significance of sound upon a film s thematic concept, one must identify the fundamental components of the individual film score and its relationship to the development of the plot. Sound has been a dominant feature of the audience s cinematic experience from early in the art form s history. Initially existing as a simple piano score that was used to assist in the realisation of certain on screen emotions, the use of sound has been greatly developed and is now considered as one of the richest sources of meaning in film art. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the development of a films theme, sound can become highly significant by intensifying a mood and in creating a sense of location, allowing the viewer to become increasingly involved in the world of the film (Phillips, 2002). Starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as detectives, David Fincher s psychological thriller Se7en depicts themes with theological, philosophical, moral and cultural facets (Vandelist, 2000), specifically the seven deadly sins, serial killing, violence, death, the chase, city life and good verses evil. Playing the protagonist, Kevin Spacey depicts these themes through the murder of seven people, each representing one of the seven deadly sins. Through exploiting the soundtrack, Fincher avoids commenting overtly on some of these themes (particularly city life), as they are ever present through the sound in virtually every scene. (Giannetti, 2002) The soundscape of this film is typical of the thriller genre, developing the concept that the audience fears what they cannot see, by using off screen sound effects to create constant anxiety. The musical score is used to intensify this particular emotion through modern, atonal and dissonant melodic lines and harmonies. Such musical lines are often associated with audience feelings of neurosis and paranoia. (Giannetti, 2002). Furthermore, music and atmosphere are used to foreshadow the action and to prepare the audience for a particular event. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a need for each element of this so called quilt, but some patches (scenes) contain more importance and understanding than other patches. The levels of an author s writing are how scenes impact a person. In the retrospect of the daring and defying boundaries of this novel, entitled The Scarlet Letter , there is a certain pull in areas of the novel that grasp the feeling and most important areas to be covered. As the hearts of all readers searched this novel, five scenes pulled on the strings of those encountered this novel. Scenes of this nature include, the point that Hester pronounced her appearance on the scaffold with a mighty reveal of the nature of this story, Governor Bellingham became a threatening factor in Hester and her daughter s life, a tremendous moment occurred for the Reverend Dimmesdale and it affects the relationship with Hester and young Pearl, a moment of sweet and uncountable passion between two forbidden lovers, and the end of tail of passion, sorrow, and estrangement between brooding protagonists and antagonists. A moment of true form and conception is what Hester faces the defining beginning of her adulterous life. As the novel opens up, our minds are faced with the bold Hester Prynne, who is eloquently swaying in her dress of coarse materials to the scaffold of committed punishment. • 19. Concentric Zone Model Research Paper There are three main models to living, those models are known as concentric zone models, sector models, and multiple nuclei models. The concentric zone model is an early theoretical model that explains urban social structures. The sector model is known as the Hoyt model. The sector model allows for an outward development of growth. The sector model grows in a wedge shaped zone. The multiple nuclei model is an economic model. It does not grow around one central core. The city I live in is Surprise. The multiple nuclei model represents my city because everything is close and jammed next to each other. The model I would like better would be a combination of the sector model and multiple nuclei model. The concentric zone model is described as an industrial city that expands away from the center and causes a sequence of circles. In 1925, Ernest Burgess created the concentric zone model. Hotels, offices, banks, and amusement are located in the center. The transition zone is the second layer where there are abandoned buildings, factories, starvation, debt, and high crime. • 22. Issues Faced by Police Departments in Today s Society Issues Facing Police Departments in Today s Society Introduction Over the last several years, most police departments have been facing numerous financial challenges. The main reason is law enforcement agencies are expected to do more with less and the stagnant economy. The combination of these factors has been placing pressure on many departments to begin imposing budget cuts. Evidence of this can be seen with a survey that was conducted by the University of North Carolina. They found that 67% of police departments made some kind of budget cuts for 2011. The most severe reductions were occurring in large police departments such as Los Angeles, Atlanta and Detroit. (Delfem, 2011, pp. 199 205) This is illustrating one of the most pressing issues affecting a wide variety of police departments across the country. To fully understand what is happening requires: examining the situation, how they are able to interact with other agencies (i.e. state / federal) and recommending the way this relationship can be improved. Together, these elements will offer specific insights about how police departments can effectively address this problem. The Current Situation Since the last recession began in 2008, many law enforcement agencies have been dealing with budgetary cuts. This is because all levels of government have been seeing shortfalls in tax revenues. In most cases, the situation is so severe that municipalities and states have been forced to deal with large budget deficits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will be exploring the key concepts of identity, identification, place and social memory and how theses sociological concepts are displayed within the articles. Identity is the process that informs the way in which people see themselves and the groups they belong to and also how other groups categorize a person. Pountney and Maric (2015) pages 144 5. Identity is relational, situational and multiple. It is better to understand identification as a process of continual negotiation and renegotiation. This statement confirms our identities are forever changing due to our circumstances or surrounding environments and certain aspects of our identities are chosen and negotiated. The Sikh youths in the UK prove this theory through this statement; There s a time to be Indian and a time to be British K. Hall (2002). Identification is the ongoing process that describes the way in which individuals and groups see themselves and the way others see them. Because of increased mobility due to globalization, health professionals are able to cross borders with stunning speed in order to deliver care and patients in need of certain treatments have benefited from the ability to leave their country for care. The Internet makes it easier to alert the relevant authorities to the outbreak of a disease and to share information on health issues. When the Europeans first traveled and colonized the world, they brought with them terrible diseases, killing over 90% of the population. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing. Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from and use as a guide the way we do in this country. • 38. The Body Theory And Its Strength And Weaknesses Am I the same person today as I was yesterday? Will I be the same person a few years from now as I am now? Kagan explains a few theories that can help with figuring out what makes me, me. There is the soul theory, the body theory, and the personality theory. The body theory consists of the brain and body theory and the torso and body theory. After looking into each theory carefully through Kagan s lectures, I found that there were flaws in all three theories. The theory that I favor, however, is the body theory and more specifically the brain aspect of that theory. In my essay I will discuss why I favor the body theory and its strength and weaknesses. I will also discuss Kagan s take on survival. To start with, the body theory is not mysterious like the soul theory. If I believed in souls, and favored the soul theory, how could I prove that I did not get a new soul every five hours or three days? I would not be able to. The body theory means having the same body. This also means having most of your same body. For example, in Star Wars when Luke Skywalker got his hand cut off, he still had most of his body; therefore, he is the same person. Now there are some problems with this theory as Kagan points out. The problem is resurrection. There is no current proof of a body being resurrected from the ground, but there is a possibility of bodily resurrection that cannot be denied. The issue with bodily resurrection is that it draws the question, is the resurrected body really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plus if the patient is put under for a longer amount of time during a operation more gas will build up in the fats and then later go up to the brain. (Kervin, 2010) Fifth, lidocaine, the first amino amide type local anesthetic of its time, was first synthesized under the name Xylocaine by Swedish chemist Niles Löfgren in 1943. • 40. Forward Facing Car Seat Safety The most exciting part of raising a child is watching them reach different milestones of their life. From sitting up, to talking and walking, to their first birthday most parents are ecstatic and dismal. No parent would ever put their child in any danger or to purposely hurt them. But by simply keep kids in a rear facing position can be 500% times safer. In 100 car accidents, 8 children will die or have serious injuries in a rear facing car seat compared to the 40 children that will die or have serious injuries in forward facing car seats. Putting a child in a forward facing car seat, before their second birthday, that creates uninformed decisions that can cause incomplete growth, serious injuries, and death. First, the biggest problem is the myths that go along with car seats and car seat safety. CNN reports that 24% of parents will turn their children around before they reach two. One reason is the huge myth that a child has outgrown the position of a rear facing position. Most car seats have adjustable positions as the child grows, as well as, have weight and height limits printed in the car seat manual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Marx when embodied labor time is measurable, it makes the creation of relative value possible. The use of literary devices is essential to illustrate what the narrator and the reader cannot see. In doing so, the terms used to articulate the indescribable are thought provoking. How do humans view the natural world? Throughout the section on page 47, Shadows of Carcosa, Bierce shatters the quintessential monster archetype, by creating a beast that the human eye cannot see. Through the use of descriptive language, characters, setting, style and tone, Bierce produces a piece of work that goes against the normative horror story. As the narrator Williams Harker shadows Hugh Morgan, he becomes aware that Morgan is severely frightened. What is it? What the devil is it? I asked. That Damned Thing! he replied, without turning his head. His voice was husky and unnatural. He trembled visibly (page 47). This quote highlights Morgan s role in the making of the creature. Bierce needs Morgan s character to illustrate the presence of a mysterious creature. Through Morgan s reaction and Harker s witness to the strange circumstances, Bierce makes the characters reliable. If the story was based solely off of Morgan s journal, the reader would chalk it up to Morgan going mad. Likewise, if the recount was solely based off of Harker s testimony, the reader would be inclined to believe he had gone mad. Bierce s use of Harker s character and the journal verifies the bizarre happenings. Additionally, Harker and Morgan are used to advance the imagery of the imperceptible being. Before the smoke of the discharge had cleared away I heard a loud savage cry a scream like that of a wild animal and flinging his gun upon the ground Morgan sprang away and ran swiftly from the spot. At the same instant I was thrown violently to the ground by the impact of something unseen in the smoke some soft, heavy substance that seemed thrown against me with great force.
