Gandhi Case Study
Gandhi was born in suppressed India in 1869, which was four years after the end of the American
Civil War. Gandhi studied law in London, England. Gandhi liked that the English respected the law.
Gandhi disapproved of India s caste system. What made Gandhi s Nonviolent Movement Work?
Gandhi used at least three different tactics to make nonviolence work: disciplined civil disobedience,
accepting jail time, and embracing the enemy.
One nonviolent tactic that Gandhi used to make nonviolence work was disciplined civil disobedience.
According to Webb Miller, The marchers were disciplined by native police who beat them with metal
pipes (Document B). Civil Disobedience allowed the Nonviolent Movement to work because the
marchers were willing to die for change. Since they were willing to sacrifice themselves to get
independence tales me that independence was really important to India. Even though the marchers got
beaten up badly, they did not fight back. By not fighting back, India was getting closer to get freedom.
Webb Miller was there when the marchers were getting hurt. He wrote down everything he saw and
shared with the world. By sharing with the world, people put pressure to Britain because now the
world know what Britain is doing to India. This helped India to get independence because it hurt
Britain s reputation. One nonviolent tactic that Gandhi used to make nonviolence work was by
accepting jail time. When Gandhi was in South Africa, he went to prison, In his

The Effects Of Climate Change On Human Activities
The Fraudulence of Climate Change Humans have been emitting increasingly large amounts of carbon
dioxide into the atmosphere since the industrial revolution. A common misconception created by the
Liberal Left is that this pollution is harmful to the atmosphere and is a direct cause of climate change.
However many studies have disputed this claim, conversely concluding that pollution caused by
human activities are not correlated to climate change in any way. In the theory of climate change,
there is one undisputable fact, human pollution has risen significantly during the past century. Some
scientists may claim that this pollution fuels climate change. A significant flaw in this theory is that
climate change isn t even occurring. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact this exact scenario happened! Up until the Little Ice Age in the 14th and 15th centuries, the
global temperature was rising. This took place before any industrialization, therefore there would be
no human made pollution to cause this warming. This in itself exposes the fallacy of climate change.
Any way you look at it, the climate change theory is flawed. If you accept the pre 1979 readings as
true, then you would see an isolated case of global warming which could not have been caused by
human pollution, thus proving climate change is a natural phenomenon. If you only take into account
the post 1979 readings, then you will see that climate change is not even occurring. The climate
change theory has been plagued by scandals. The Left is promoting climate change in order to push
their own political agenda. Since climate change is potentially devastating to the earth, which
everyone wants to preserve, then liberals can use this issue as a trump card. They are basically saying
that in order to avoid extinction, we need to vote for them above anyone else who doesn t accept
climate change as fact. Politicians feed on climate change s imminent destruction in order to sway
moderate voters to the left. They appeal to our primal instincts of self preservation in order to become
elected, and once elected, they can pass unrelated legislation. In addition to politicians,
environmentalists benefit from the theory of climate

Violence Against Women In India
Violence against women is not a problem of today; it is rooted decades before. It is present all over the
world .The condition is getting worse day by day. It is crossing all the borders and races. Violence
against women is a very serious and sensitive issue as it is one of the most pervasive of human rights
violation denying fundamental rights to almost half of population (females and girls).Domestic
violence is much more drastic than violence outside because home is a place where individual seeks
love, security, safety and shelter but we can t deny the fact that it is also a place that imperils lives.
Violence includes harassment, maltreatment, brutality, cruelty, physical injury or attempting to place a
woman in fear of injury or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Violence is used as a weapon to exert power over others. It s a misconception that violence against
female is generated by males only. In reality it is of both types inter sex and intra sex. Even mother
who bears equal labor pains during birth of her children discriminates between her son and daughter.
In India where domestic violence persists in want of dowry females also play their role in victimizing
women. Husband is not the only accused in bride burning cases participation of females like mother in
law and sister in law are also included. Another great cause of domestic violence in India is want of
male child. Researches indicate that 30%of the abuse starts during pregnancy; during which a woman
needs special care and attention; they are deprived of basic amenities like medicines and healthy diet
even during pregnancy. Nearly about two third of females are anaemic which leads to death of mother
or child during child birth. Early marriages, forced marriages, honor killing , acid throwing,
trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, female foeticide and female infanticide , neglect of women health
problems , compelling and humiliating women, alcoholism of the husband are some of the other forms
of violence against women in India. Forced prostitution due to poverty is also very common in some
Indian states. Husband s infedility is also a major cause of psychological violence in most of the cases.

Florida State University SWOT Analysis
Assessing Culture Higher education institutions must continually change to adapt to environmental
trends, and the SWOT analysis can help administrators to plan and act quickly to stop potential
problems (Pucciarelli Kaplan, 2016). The SWOT analysis is based on strengths, weakness,
opportunities, and threats of the internal and external environment (Addams Allred, 2013). By
conducting a SWOT analysis, the institution can design strategies and policies for the institution
(Verboncu Condurache, 2016). SWOT analysis provides information that is effective and efficient at
the time for the institution and identifies areas for improvement (Verboncu Condurache, 2016). This

There have been complaints about how long it takes the financial aid department to process the
paperwork and about questions not being answered. Several dormitories need to be upgraded. General
advising is unproductive. Faculty are used to advise students, and some faculty have been
misinforming students. More advisors are needed to advise the students. There is not enough parking
on campus. There is no room for the university to expand on campus.
Opportunities
Since more people are looking for a mid career change and life long learning, there is growth potential
in this area. Online education is becoming more popular and meets the needs of individuals, so there is
growth potential in this area. The entrepreneurship school is expanding its courses to all programs in
the university. Partnerships with businesses will increase and provide students with more internship
opportunities. Individuals in different fields will be mentors to students. The University could increase
enrollment numbers by accepting more out of state students.

Video Gaming And High Performance Gamming Computers
In the past decade gamming has evolved from the most simplistic of forms to one of the most action
packed entertainment that rivals that of a movie. Along with games the hardware use to run those
games has also evolved to some of the most advanced technology s we know. With this new hardware
there are different type of systems classifications like consoles, and high performance gamming
computers. Among these two classifications I believe the gamming pc s are better than consoles. Here
I am going to go over why I believe this based on price, functions available, control of functionality,
choices of games, and community size. To start off let s look at the background of video games and
how it evolved in to what it is today. Video gaming started becoming popular around the 1970 s when
Atari released their pong arcade machine. (Atari, 99)during this time many first generation consoles
started being released which included the Magnavox Odyssey, TV Tennis Electronics, and Home
pong. Alongside those consoles home computers were starting to emerge like the commodore VIC 20,
and the Amstrad CPC. (Bagnall Melick)Even though video gaming at the time was still in its infancy
it was still a large factor in the market for selling of both of these consoles and computers. Also with
such a big demand for video games the technology for both video games and the hardware to run
video games got better, and cheaper. In a comparison that encyclopedia Britannica did between an

Fuecal Contamination Of Water
Water has a huge ability to serve as a mode of transmission for certain pathogens. Even though water
carries so many different pathogens, due to fecal contamination, it is impossible and expensive to try
and ensure ever type of water is free of pathogens. In this experiment, we verified three different
samples of water and determined the amount of fecal contamination in each. The three samples of
water included: Little John Lake, Leaf River, and a roadside lake. It was predicted that all three water
samples would be affected by some coliforms, but that the water sample, Little John Lake would
contain the most coliforms, which contained fecal contamination. In order to determine which sample
of water contained the most fecal contamination,

Lais of Marie de France
Throughout the Lais of Marie de France there are several themes presented as central to the various
stories. Some of these themes are present in all of the lais. One such example is that of courtly love
and it s implications. Courtly love being one of the more prominent themes in all of medieval
literature, it is fittingly manifested in all of the lais as well. Another theme present in two of the lais is
isolation. The theme of isolation plays a large role in the stories of Guigemar and Lanval. In each of
these lais we see isolation as a factor in determining the fates of the central figures. Within each lai
isolation is represented on several different occasions, each time having a direct impact on the
outcome. These instances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prison is described as being of incomparable beauty and being decorated with poetic images. The
walls of the chamber were covered in paintings in which Venus, the goddess of love, was skillfully
depicted together with the nature and obligations of love; how it should be served with loyalty and
good service. (p.46) The lady was indeed alone, isolated from all except for her servant and the lord,
upon his command. No one, man or woman, could have gained access to this spot, or escaped from
this walled enclosure. (p.46) Thus far Guigemar s isolation as well as the lady s isolation may be seen
as vehicles for their introduction to one another. In the lai of Guigemar we are presented with isolation
as a physical removal from others. Whether it be Guigemar alone in the woods or the lady alone in her
prison home, the isolation is always physical and forced, even if it be a force of magic such as the
curse of the magical animal on Guigemar which draws him to the magic ship. In the case of Lanval
this is often times not the case. With Lanval we often see isolation as a more psychological event. In
the story s opening we see Lanval as being isolated from the very court and king he serves. He
apportioned wives and lands to all, save to one who had served him: this was Lanval, whom he did not
remember, and for whom no one put in a good word. (p.73) Immediately we see

Martha Stewart Ethical Behavior
Introduction
Martha Stewart is an American Home decorator Icon surrounded by accusations of Inside trading,
Obstruction of justice, False statements and Conspiracy. Her trial and investigation lasted for two
years ending with her being found guilty of charges and convicted to spend time in jail, home arrest
and probation. In this work I will expose Martha Stewart s behavior and why her actions were
considered outlaw, unethical and unprofessional. I will also explain which ethical behavior she used
and how that affects her image, financial status, social position, fame and followers.

The Security and Exchange Commission is the organization who monitors fraudulent transactions and
insider trading. Some experts in ethical behavior consider inside trading the most dramatic form of
utilitarian ethics.
Martha s Ethical Behavior
Since 2002 Martha Stewart was investigated by the SEC and the FBI for Inside Trading but it is
interesting that she wasn t found guilty or accused on any of those charges; she was charge for
conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statement. It was her un ethical behavior what drove her
into innumerable allegations and public embarrassments. There are at least four issues in this case
where ethics play a very interesting and critical role; Freedom of speech, Conspiracy, Right of
property and Inside trading.
1. Freedom of Speech
When Martha Stewart was accused the first problem presented was the Media and how her case was
going to be handled. Martha s Stewart lawyer Robert Morvillo along with Martha s publicist and show
producers orchestrated a plan to keep Martha s image as clean and honest as possible. They didn t
waste time by using the media, Martha s TV show and Magazine to defend her position and
manipulate the public opinion towards Martha s innocence. It is clear that in court previous
information and announcements of her innocence will create in the future juror s minds the reasonable
doubt needed to find her innocent. The judge immediately imposed a gag order to control the flow of

Gene Therapy Research Paper
Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes into
cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the 1960 s
and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many new practices
including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of cells transformation
by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a product of this new DNA
technique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually correct genetic disorders.2 This
new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that is constantly growing larger as
scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now, the uses of gene therapy in the
medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes, delivering genes that speed the
destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer cells to revert to their normality,
delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination, providing genes that promote or impede
the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this
information, a wide variety of genes are now being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid
1980 s the first use of gene therapy was practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she
became the first gene therapy patient on September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. This four year

The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse Five
Many writers in history have written science fiction novels and had great success with them, but only
a few have been as enduring over time as Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. Slaughterhouse Five
is a personal novel which draws upon Vonnegut s experience s as a scout in World War Two, his
capture and becoming a prisoner of war, and his witnessing of the fire bombing of Dresden in
February of 1945 (the greatest man caused massacre in history). The novel is about the life and times
of a World War Two veteran named Billy Pilgrim. In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut uses
structure and point of view to portray the theme that time is relative.

dimension, time, which allowed them to keep Billy for what seemed like longer than what he was

nothing that happens to you damages you forever. Since time is relative, and your life is like a

Slaughterhouse Five is written from also affects the way the reader fells about time after reading the
novel. Since the story is narrated by a omniscient being that is everywhere with Billy Pilgrim, the
reader gets a first hand account of every event in his life. Also Billy is very relaxed and accepting all
things around him. A good example of this is Billy s habit of following every death with so it goes .

assert control over the readers response after a death. (Dawley 2) The way Billy

The Importance Of Cultural Heritage
In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being an
important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to institute
economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in Banksy s graffiti
of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along with mass and cyber
media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible to safeguard the cultural
legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people without the knowledge of their
past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Brainy Quote). Being unique and
irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our religion, customs and ancestors and charges us
to preserve it for the future generations. However, culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat
caused by rapid modernization. Culture cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world
where people have a tendency to become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of
societies and new opportunities is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. How can
antique or medieval art protect itself or withstand the contemporary art when our society insists to take
the plunge into globalization? Murzacov 2 A vivid example of modernization taking over the cultural
heritage is the city of Manilla, Philippines presented by the reporter, Erika

Desire Under The Elms By Eugene O Neill
Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O Neill is a modern twist on the mythological tale of Phaedra and
Hippolytus. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical
version of the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism
movements, O Neill struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The
Modernism movement is made up of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and
literary. The artistic and literary Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early 20th
century, is marked by the concepts of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden breaks
with traditional values of literature, philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism, which
developed in the mid to late 20th century held the idea that reality is not based on societal
understanding of it, but, on individual perception and interpretation. While both have similarities, the
perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a relatively large scale.
In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed
acceptable. In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less acceptable
than another because each person determined what is considered valuable to them individually.
Though modernism and postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking and social norms,
these periods actually faced quite an overlap. While

down into minority groups of 10% Latino, 7% Asian, 1% Black, and 3% Native American/Pacific
Islander (Ratliffe, February 2014). Current initiatives that Tuality has in the works for 2015 is to
improve diversity of its workforce and, therefore, improve its service to the minority population in the
area. Based on the Community Health Needs Assessment Report, the population configuration of
whom Tuality serves averages roughly 25% Latino patients (Tuality Healthcare, 2014). To better serve
those patients, Tuality must attract, hire and retain more minority employee in direct patient care
professions such as physicians and nurses that will reflect a better match to the patient base.
The third pillar, community reputation for unparalleled value, is perhaps the largest hurdle to
overcome. It is hard to expect patients to use Tuality if they do not believe they will get good value for
their money and have positive health outcomes. Because of being a small organization, Tuality has to
work harder to achieve similar outcomes of patient satisfaction than its larger Portland area
counterparts. Tuality serves a smaller number of patients, and when mistakes happen it increases the
percentage of bad experiences for patients and lowers the HCAHPS scores. The HCAHPS

The Importance Of Violent Video Games
Not only does gaming take up a significant amount of time, but research show[s] that playing violent
video games can increase a person s aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory
settings and in daily life (American Psychological Association). Aggressive behavior hurts
relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is aggressive
people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them to become
aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that compared with a
group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in Mortal Kombat were
more aggressive across the board. They gave their fellow students significantly bigger portions of the
hot sauce (Carey). Examples of increased aggressive behaviors climax when events such as real life
attacks and shootings happen and can be attributed to video games. Now I wouldn t say video games
are the only factor in events like these but it s hard to imagine they play no significant role either. Take
the following drastic event as an example:
Two men accused of running down Jerry Steinberg with a car, then beating and kicking him into a

and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories
religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On

John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on
similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength
waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this
theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions
have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage
(Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and
Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute
that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic
reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance
(Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is
of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. ā€žThere is no reason to be concerned
with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely ,
writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as ā€žbeing multivalent, open on all sides to the power
of evocation (9). Locke holds a bold view: ā€žIn the

The Secession Crisis Of 1860-1861
Between 1846 and 1861, many events had impacts on the United States that lead up to the secession
crisis of 1860 1861. Slavery had great impacts on the country, such as the economic effect of the
South overestimating its importance due to the prevalence of slave grown cotton. Westward expansion
had the social effect of the citizens of territories wanting statehood to get into arguments and civil
wars due to popular sovereignty. States rights had the political effect of the southern states believing
that since they agreed to become part of the United States, they could just as easily leave the country.
Without a doubt, the social, economic, and political effects of slavery, westward expansion, and states
rights lead to the secession crisis of 1860 1861, with the political effects being seen the greatest.
Slavery had major economic and social effects that lead up to the secession crisis of 1860 1861.
Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis, as compared to westward expansion and states
rights. Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis because economically, it made the South
overestimate its importance. With large number of slaves working on plantations, the plantations could
produce a lot of goods to send to the North. One major export from the South to the North was cotton.
Since the North was heavily reliant on Southern cotton, the South believed that if they would secede
they would cripple the North s economy, making the North more likely to

Pro Anorexia Persuasive Essay
Anything that promotes an unhealthy lifestyle is inappropriate, right? Wrong. Eating disorders have
been on the rise among teenagers, and whether or not pro anorexia websites should be banned is a hot
topic of debate. People are quick to judge pro anorexia websites since they promote unhealthy
lifestyles, but these websites can actually be a positive resource for those who suffer from eating
disorders. Understanding Pro Anorexia Websites On a pro anorexia website, one might find pictures of
unhealthily thin women, advice on how to stop eating, and motivational posts to help those who suffer
from anorexia reach their goal weight. Some users even provide tips on how to overcome the various
side effects that come with anorexia fainting spells, fatigue, and dehydration. These websites are
usually blogs or discussion boards, and users often anonymously post and interact with others. For
many sufferers, pro anorexia websites are the only resource that they feel comfortable resorting to.
The Importance of Anonymity Those who suffer from eating disorders often resort to internet
discussion boards because they are anonymous. Eating disorders are often criticized, and many
sufferers are afraid of being judged or ridiculed by their family or friends. Those with anorexia often
hear lines like Just eat a hamburger! or Why can t you just eat like the rest of us? Saying things like
this to an anorexic person is not going to help them at all. If anything, words like

Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights Essay
Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights In Wuthering Heights, we see tragedies follow one by one, most of
which are focused around Heathcliff, the antihero of the novel. After the troubled childhood Heathcliff
goes through, he becomes embittered towards the world and loses interest in everything but Catherine
Earnshaw his childhood sweetheart whom he had instantly fallen in love with. and revenge upon
anyone who had tried to keep them apart. The novel begins with a few short introduction chapters
which Bronte had most likely used to illustrate how incompetent the character of Lockwood was, and
to foreshadow what was to come in later chapters. After these, it begins to immediately demonstrate to
the reader the plight of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Heathcliff aged, his love for Catherine first shown on the night of Mr. Earnshaws death when only
the two of them can comfort each other blossomed and bloomed not into the rose which would have
been expected from such a strong, passionate love, but into the twisted thorn bush of Heathcliff s dark
revenge. After Mr. Earnshaws death Catherine s elder brother, Hindley, became the new proprietor of
Wuthering Heights. Under Hindley s guiding hand, Heathcliff was sent out into the fields with the
servants and was no longer aloud to be educated along with Catherine. This was the first time that the
two of them were separated, and it later led to Heathcliff s wreaking his revenge upon Hindley by first
driving him to drink, taking his land with gambling debts, and corrupting his son Hareton in the same
way that Hindley had done to Heathcliff, but to an exaggerated degree. The next victim of Heathcliff s
revenge was Edgar Linton. Once Heathcliff began working in the field, Hindley saw to it that his sister
would never lower herself and take an orphan gypsy boy as a husband. He does this by seeing to it that
Catherine spends as much time with Edgar and Isabella Linton as possible. With them, she becomes
even more spoiled then she had been and escalated from prissy to being an all out brat. She soon after

Research Paper On Giant Panda Feces
WHAT?
The problem is that giant pandas are eating their way to extinction. For around 7 million years, giant
pandas have been eating bamboo and it has been their only source of food for around 2 million years.
Studies have proven through a genetic analysis that tested samples of their feces that giant pandas
have microbes living within them that allow them to actually eat meat. However, over the course of
their lifetime, giant pandas half adapted to primarily eating just bamboo. Researchers are worried that
because of the declining rates of bamboo, that the species will go extinct. There are only around 1,600
giant pandas still living in the forest areas of China. The scientists who developed the study of
examining giant panda feces said, The peculiar characteristics of its gut microbiota may put it at high
risk of extinction. Although their microbes allow giant pandas to eat meat, they have been so used to
eating bamboo that they cannot just switch their food source to something else.

including myself, are taking about the one food giant pandas eat. Bamboo is necessary for the giant
panda species, but is not necessary to the human species. If the giant pandas are not causing any harm

The Diamond Buddhist Of Buddhism
It is apparent that not too many Westerners understand how complex Buddhism truly is. Buddhism has
various traditions with different perceptions of Buddha s teachings and rituals. Buddhism is practiced
by all different types of people, not just monks or people who reside in the East. The Diamond
Buddhist Way Center in Chicago helps display how diverse the Buddhist community is by providing a
more western and contemporary style of Buddhism. The center is located at 4722 N Malden St,
Chicago, IL 60640. The center is part of an international non profit group of over 600 lay centers. The
center follows the Vajrayana traditions which can be translated from Sanskrit as the Diamond Way.

The head teacher was a western lay member of the center. He had a career outside of his sessions at
the center as well as a family. He wore jeans and a sweater. All the other members of the group were
also western working lay people who wore common American articles of clothing.
The setting of the center was different when compared to the older Buddhist traditions practiced in
temples. The setting was contemporary and western while Buddhist temples and centers that are more
influenced by eastern culture will tend to be located in older buildings with donated furniture. All the
members wore casual clothes and were treated as equals while in Theravada and Mahayana traditions.
The lay people always paid their respects to the monks and nuns of the monasteries by bowing and
giving offerings. The Vajrayana tradition promotes the idea that enlightenment could be attained by
means of the things of this world itself, by means of one s own body, one s own speech, one s own
mind (Strong 206).
The first part of the service was the introduction to the center. Our teacher told us the story of
Gautama Buddha and the history of the center. The organization was founded by Lama Ole Nydahl

High Stakes High School Case Study
Introduction
According to the case study (Appendix A), High Stakes High School (HSHS) is a low income,
underperforming urban high school in Bronx, New York. School enrollment consists of 79% Black
and 21% Latino students. Of the student body, 91% qualify for a free or reduced fee lunch, and 13%
qualify as English Language Learners (ELLs). Over the last decade, school performance has waned.
The performance has coincided with troubling school level trends, such as increased absenteeism and
suspensions, as well as gang activity and violence. Trying to align with the instability at the district
level, the school has had six different principals.
Action Plan
During the months of July and August, I established a task force team, involving all stakeholders, in
our school reform and prepared a 3 year action plan to turn around our school. As the principal of
High Stakes High School, my team and I shared the action plan report, based on the school data and
our research in education reforms, with the superintendent. Subsequently, the team shared the findings
at the first faculty conference, at the Parent Teacher Association meeting in September, and with our
students during the Welcome Back to School orientation session. The report identifies the three most
important steps to promoting a positive school culture and planning change. In alignment with

The Role Of Sitting Bull In The Black Hills
In 1874 gold was discovered in the Black Hills. President Grant was forced to make a harsh decision
because the Black Hills were located in the Great Sioux Reservation that the Indians had gained under
the Treaty of 1868. President Grant allowed miners to enter the Black Hills and insisted that this act
would be legalized. Government attempted to acquire the Black Hills, where the gold was located
however Sitting Bull was against the sale of the land. The Great War of Sioux 1876 resulted from a
disagreement between miners and Indians. Miners had already begun to come to the Black Hills to
mine for goal and the government allowed these things to happen. Because Sitting Bull and his army
men were not sure of what would have happened when the white men entered they were forced to
attack in fear. They had not interfered with the gold rush, and although they had not signed the Treaty
of 1868, in sanctioned their residence in the unceded territory (Utley pg34). Sitting Bull gave orders to
his young soldiers to harass whites at Yellowstone and in other areas all because he was trying to be
proactive and attack them before they attacked him and his people. Sitting Bull was unaware that his
actions were considered to be an improper thing to do. Because of the actions of Sitting Bull s army,
they were forced to leave the reservation or come face to face to the military. After all of these things

How The Pollutants Affect Communities Living Along The Strait
Communities located along the Strait of Juan de Fuca are being affected by something that s hidden in
the water. It is something which communities have attempted to fix; however, there is still a lot that
needs to be done to completely reverse the effects it has made. This hidden thing is the pollutants
humans have intentionally and unintentionally dumped into the Strait of Juan De Fuca. The dumping
of sewage, the leaking of industrial waste, and the flushing of household waste are all contributing to
the build up of toxic pollutants in the Strait. Individuals will discovers the ways the Strait has been
affected by certain pollutants, will learn about the plans communities have started in an attempt to
mitigate the impact, and will find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can therefore conclude that negative side effects from water contamination extend to rural areas
where dumping sites may not be present.
When we look at the fish along the Strait we seem to see the same results. In a study done on Toxic
Contaminants in Dungeness Crab (2014), they found mercury and PCB s or Polychlorinated
Biphenyls in multiple different species of fish, two of the species being Chinook and Coho, which is
consumed by community s along the Sound (Carey, Niewolny, Lanksbury West). PCB s were used for
electrical equipment in the past. The manufacturing of PCB s was stopped in 1977. However, there is
evidence that shows PCB builds up in the environment ( PCBs ). This shows the impact waste can
have decades after it has been mitigated, and why it is important to stop any further damage.
Next there are shellfish beds that have been shut down due to their toxicity levels along the Strait. The
Washington Department of Health (DOH), has a map that allows individuals to see which areas are
closed for shellfish harvesting, both commercially and recreationally. Regarding Port Angeles, it is
shown as being completely closed to shellfish harvest due to pollution, with the primary cause being
Sewage Outfall. The pollutants in the water are absorbed by the shellfish along with any viruses and
bacteria, which then causes any human who consumes the

The Contributions Of Artists During The World War One War
Part A Plan of Investigation
Beginning on August 4th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918, Canada was a part of World War One
between the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The First World War brought changes to every
aspect of the world from society to medicine to the arts. This investigation aims to evaluate the
contributions of artists in the World War One war effort. To determine the extent of the artists
contributions, the investigation will focus on art created during this time for the war effort such as
propaganda posters, dazzle camouflage and military camouflage. To analyze the contributions, I will
be looking at photographs and images of dazzle camouflage, propaganda posters and military
camouflage as primary sources found on the website and at the Canadian War Museum but also using
databases and websites such as the Canadian government website for secondary sources and other
information.
Part B Summary of Evidence
Artists Prior to World War One:
A new form of art was born called modernism which helped to describe the new world
Women were also engaging in art
In September 1886, a group of young women artists organized a club strictly for art
In 1907, the association became the Women s Art Association of Canada with a bill passed in the
House of Commons
War Artists
Sir Max Aitken, later known as Lord Beaverbrook, recognized the necessity of film and photographs
for propaganda but felt that paintings could best portray Canada at war

The Life Of A Refugee Camp
Life is like a drop of water floating on the surface of the lotus leaf. I cannot trust it when people claim
that life can t be changed because of my own life story. How could anyone believe that I was born in a

In the early 1990 s one of the smallest countries in the world, Bhutan was politically active because of
growing communism within the nation. At that time, the country was populated with Nepali and
Drukpas; two distinct groups of people. One group eats beef for their finest food and the other group

My parents were among this group. For the next eighteen years of their lives, they remained refugees
until the United States of America legally brought us here to Virginia.
Looking back, I can t even imagine how I spent my life back in the refugee camp in Nepal. It was not
only a hard life, but an impossible one. There were various problems in the refugee camp like scarcity
of basic needs and the unavailability of better education.
In the refugee camp, basic needs such as food, clothes, and shelter were hard to find. My family had to
depend on small biweekly rations. Sometimes we ran out of rations and had to starve the rest of the
week. With scarce nutritious food, it was impossible to manage a good diet and, as a result, it was hard
to maintain good health. Clothing was another problem in the refugee camp. We did not have warm
jackets and coats to keep ourselves safe from the cold during the harsh Nepali winters. The price of
clothing was very high. Since we did not have money, buying them was not an option. Each year,
many people died in the camp as a result. People also turned to suicide as a way to end their suffering.
When people want for something and continue to not get it, then they become more frustrated with
each passing day. They begin to no longer see the value of life. As a result, they take their life making
a statement that dying was better than living in the

Theme Morality In Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
The author, Edith Wharton uses the theme morality, to describe the feelings of the characters. Wharton
displays the theme throughout the story with symbols, motifs, and irony; he wants to be able to
connect to the readers. The novel uses morality as a sense of principles between right and wrong.
Morality seems to have its up and downs in the story, as it does in real life. The author uses this
particular type of theme with characters to have a more realistic plot and to help the reader understand
of what is going on in the book. In the novel Ethan Frome morality is a constant obstacle faced with
the characters. Ethan principles are challenged throughout the novel with his feelings for Mattie. She
stood just as Zeena had stood, a lifted lamp in her hand, against the black background of the kitchen.
She held the light at the same level, and it drew out with the same distinctness her slim young throat
and the brown wrist no bigger than a child s. Then, striking upward, it threw a lustrous fleck on her
lips, edged her eyes with velvet shade, and laid a milky whiteness above the black curve of her brows.
Wharton, Edith. Ethan Frome. Dover Thrift Editions. 1991.pp.33. Ethan is able to see Mattie as the
position as his wife, despites Mattie and Zeena physical and age differences. Ethan faces the rights and
wrongs for his feelings, and often has to put his feelings on hold. It was almost as if the other face, the
face of the superseded woman, had obliterated that of the intruder. Wharton, Edith. Ethan Frome.
Dover Thrift Editions. 1991. pp.37. Ethan is constantly imagining Mattie as his wife, but every time
he does he feels guilty for even having the idea of replacing Zeena. The author shows the struggle
with Ethan s conscience and desires. The Red Glass Pickle dish represents the marriage of Ethan and
Zeena, so when it broke describes how the couples love is no longer shared. When Mattie breaks the
dish it symbolizes her coming between Ethan and Zeena marriage. Completely reassured, she shone
on him through tear hung lashes, and his soul swelled with pride as he saw how his tone had subdued
her. She did not even ask what he had done. Except when he was steering a big log down the mountain

Reasons Of King Henry V Of France
In William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V of England sets out to retake his rightful position of
king of France. Everyone agrees that Henry has a claim to the French throne, some say he should have
invaded France and others say he should not. Henry should not have invaded France for three reasons:
He does not have a legitimate claim, it could endanger Britain, and its selfish. Firstly, Henry should
not have invaded France is that he does not have a legitimate claim to the throne. Henry claims that he

gains but he would lose his entire kingdom! This is not worth the huge risk to attack France. In Act 1

Why Poor Children Are More Likely To Become Poor Readers
Why poor children are more likely to become poor readers: the early years by Jennifer Buckingham*,
Robyn Beaman and Kevin Wheldall. In this literature, they discuss low socio economic disadvantage
and poor early literacy. Children from disadvantaged families are less likely to have experiences that
encourage the development of fundamental skills for reading acquisition, specifically phonological
awareness, vocabulary and oral language. The relationship between socio economic disadvantage and
poor reading ability is one of the most enduring problems in education. Socio economic disadvantage
is a relative concept referring to low socio economic status, which is usually deļ¬ned by income,
occupation, education, or any combination of these. (Beaman, Buckingham, and Wheldall 428). This

Color Purple Archetypes
Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple, portrays the main character Celie as an introverted butterfly
who has yet to come out of her cocoon, hiding away from confrontation and actions that could cause
negative reactions. As the story progresses, she blossoms before the reader, becoming more present in
her world where she would otherwise be shuttered in. Her character development is due to the
introduction of two very empowering and independent women, acting as female archetypes
throughout the novel. Shug, a woman with a fiery personality that ignites inspiration in Celie to
further herself as a woman, is the main focal point of the female archetype in this novel. Celie wants
to change herself; not to fit into the mold in which Shug has pushed herself into, but to better her life.
Shug s personality was able to rid Celie of the internal dark cloud living inside her. Shug is clearly
identified as a female archetype throughout the novel; an empowering woman who stands against the
odds she has been faced with. Another female archetype in the novel is Sofia, Mr._____ s (Celie s

becoming a caregiver of sorts. She can also be seen as possessing the hero archetype because Celie
admires Shug and aspires to be similar to her, not in her behavior but her confident personality. Celie

police write a police report. Courts have held that there is no legitimate right to correct police
information. An allegedly incorrect police report fails to implicate constitutional rights; Landrigan v.
City of Warwick, 628 F.2d 736, 745 (1st Cir.1980). If it is not a constitutional violation to file a false
police report, it cannot be a constitutional (as cited in Abella v. Simon, 831 F.Supp.2d 1316,
(S.D.Fla.2011). Both subjects claiming the officer not filing a police report correctly or not writing a
report. Courts have held that there is no constitutional right to a correct police report. Police officer
declined to write a police report (as mentioned in Abella v. Simon, 831 F.Supp.2d 1316
(S.D.Fla.2011). Scenario 2 (Recording incidents of violating of rights): Mr. Heir was walking on side
of the road with his fishing rods in Deer County. While fishing, Mr. Heir was openly carrying a
firearm in a shoulder holster. Of course, the County police stopped Mr. Heirs to determine if he were a

Classical Greek Architecture Essay
Classical Greek Architecture
The reuse of older art works in contemporary times is not an uncommon occurrence, and many
examples can be seen throughout the day as one goes from place to place. Even when one is browsing
through the World Wide Web can many uses of older art and architecture be seen, as with the example
shown. This image was found on the internet at the American Express homepage
(http://www.americanexpress.com/student/), which functions as a resource for college students to find
access to many commercial advertisements about discounts and products relevant for students. This
homepage caters mostly to students, as non students would not apply to the majority of the goods or

The entablature and pediment rest on top of the columns, forming post and lintel construction. The
entablature often contains friezes in the Ionic order, and metopes and triglyphs in the Doric. The
metopes were often painted and the triglyphs may have symbolized wood cross beams that would
have been used before the knowledge of stone construction was developed. The Ionic friezes often
contained sculpted figures that relate in some way to the functionality of the temple or building. The
pediment, which rests on the entablature, usually has the shape of an isosceles triangle with sculpture
that varies from low relief to sculpture in the round.
The organization of the columns around the main body of the temple varies in about five major styles.
The first three have a small rectangular shaped building called a cella with two to four columns in
front, as with the in antis style and the prostyle, or with an additional four columns in back as with the
amphiprostyle temples. The last two styles consist of a larger rectangular building divided into two
rooms, one functioning as a cella. These two styles are mainly differentiated by one row of columns
surrounding the structure, called peripteral, or with two rows of columns, called dipteral. If one looks
at the picture with these standards of Greek architecture in mind, some noticeable similarities and
differences occur.
The artist of this graphic, whether intentional or not, used a basic prostyle design and went from

The United States Navy Essay
The United States of America has not always been the world superpower that it is today. The same
goes for its Navy. In the first several years of existence, the United States Navy was not a formidable
fighting force. The young nation was hesitant to invest in a navy for many reasons, one of them being
to prevent provoking the world powers of the time, France and Britain. On top of that, navies were
very expensive to build and required a significant amount of resources to maintain, which the U.S. did
not have at the time. To say that the United States Navy was ill prepared for war would be a dramatic
understatement. The U.S. had a total of fifteen ships in its entire naval fleet compared to the might of
the Royal Navy which possessed over six hundred warships. Even with the odds stacked against the
U.S., President Madison declared war on 18 JUN 1812. The lack of size and power of the navy at the
time would make it extremely difficult to satisfy the needs of the newly founded nation.
The U.S. had enough of the British Navy impressing American sailors and seizing American merchant
ships. Even though the U.S. Navy lacked the size that British had, the Royal Navy was stretched to its
limits. Many of the British efforts were focused on the Napoleonic wars taking place in Europe,
leaving just two dozen British ships between Halifax and Bermuda. The U.S. frigates were larger and
had much more armament than those of the British giving the U.S. one more key advantage over their

70s Music Research Paper
In mid 1960s the 8 track tape was invented which was popular until the late 70s. During the 70s the
Cassette tape was introduced, which became popular very quickly. The 1980s saw a revolution in
music technology, which was a huge upgrade in the music industry. Personal stereos enabled people to
play music on cassette tapes and listen to it through headphones wherever they went. Many people
began listening to music while walking, travelling on public transport or exercising. In the late 1980s,
compact discs (CDs) began to replace vinyl records. CDs were lighter and smaller than vinyl records
and offered a much higher quality sound. Slide 2 Popular culture began after World War II in 1945.
After this time music technology began to develop

Essay Seatbelts Save Lives
One of the reason s seatbelts have been able to save lives are because it could have less likely caused
you to wreck or get hurt from not wearing your seatbelt during this time. But majority of the people
now days that don t wear their seatbelts will actually get in trouble for it and it is against the law now
days. But majority of the people have got killed during this time in today s world and maybe we can
make it become a safer world today. Another reason to choose this would be able to persuade other s
to get in the habit of wearing their seatbelt also and to help not wreck as much as they do now days
during the time we are here. Maybe in several years it will have gone done in the percentage of how
people have died during this time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific laws vary greatly from state to state, depending on the age of the rider and in what seat he or
she is sitting.
The seatbelt laws are in a lot of different states and there is a variety of people that could die from not
wearing it all the time. A lot of people in New Hampshire are a lot of adults and there are hardly any
kids there that may actually get hurt as much as they do in Tennessee and some of the states may
actually have a Primary seat belt law in this country but majority of the people that are getting hurt are
in the Passenger seat is more dangerous than the Driver but they are both very dangerous in the United
States and a lot of them happen a lot of different ways in the United States.30 states, the District of
Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
have primary seat belt laws.
19 states have secondary laws. New Hampshire has enacted neither a primary nor a secondary seat
belt law for adults, although the state does have a primary child passenger safety law that covers
children under 18.
States with secondary enforcement average only 63 percent belt use. But states with primary
(standard) enforcement belt laws average 78 percent belt use. When asked whether they support
primary enforcement laws laws that give law enforcement the authority to stop and ticket an
unbuckled occupant, just as they do other routine violations of the law like littering or

Life in Colonial America
During colonial times life would not have been anything like it is today. They would not have a cell
phone, computer or a global positioning system. The family would wake up to begin their day with
chores depending on their sex, location, age and, the families social class. Families were large for
various reasons help on the farm, most children died before the age of five. Childbirth was extremely
dangerous for women of the day. Doctors did not deliver infants. That job belonged to midwives.
Today women would have an epidural for pain. Back then woman would bite a stick or follow the old
wives tales such as placing a knife under the bed to cut the pain. After the birth, depending on the
family s wealth, they would feast to help the mother regain her strength. The mother would rest for
three to four weeks before returning to her duties as a wife and mother. Someone from a lower social
standing would only rest two or three days at most before returning to her daily work. The infant
would be dressed in swaddling gowns then later in dresses. Infants and toddlers would wear dresses
and long gowns until the age of five regardless of their sex. At the age of five, girls would begin
learning how to cook and sew among other household chores. Boys would also begin chores,
following their father and other men s example around the farm. If they came from a wealthy family,
then a tutor would teach the child. Females who were highly educated had a difficult time

Merit In The Daily Life Of A Buddhist Monk
The daily life for monks found on page 345 356, provides ongoing examples of how monks preserved
and circulated the teachings of Buddha through practice. Merit plays a significant role in the Buddhist
monasteries. Merit is not signally achieved through scriptures and teachings, however it is
implemented throughout their daily routine. Lopez mentions, In order to obtain monastic life, one
must clearly understand the rules (pg. 345). One could only hope by understanding the rules, a sense
of empathy starts to emerge. The daily life of a monk teaches them to avoid every offense
appropriately (pg. 346). The rules teach the monks to become more emotional intelligent, which is the
pathways to achieve merit. After reading through rules for monks

Incident Management Case Study
Since the early 1800 s the Federal government has been involved with assisting local disasters by
supplying financial assistance to those communities that had been destroyed by fire. A fire rippled
through a New Hampshire town in 1803, and that was the first instance of Federal government
assistance after a local disaster. Throughout the years, legislation has continued to provide funding to
areas that have been devastated by fire.
In 1934, the Flood Control Act was birthed into legislation. The Flood Control Act allowed the U. S.
Army Corps of Engineers to develop control of the design, as well as construct build flood control
projects. In March 2004, the Department of Homeland Security permitted the National Incident
Management System (NIMS) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has caused delayed response time to fires. There have been individuals injured as well as lives being
lost. The quality of life will be lessened and the risk of life will be much greater. If a fire department is
closed, that would mean that extra pressure would be placed on the remaining opened fire
departments. Overload would be intact and the stress level of the firefighters will increase. Because of
budget cuts and the closing of some fire stations, and the laying off of firefighters and civilians, the 9
1 1 calls will not stop, the calls will continue to come. And again, that will place pressure on the
remaining fire departments and its firefighters. Early intervention can possibly sot the escalation or it
could certainly de escalate a fire. With that in mind, it will in turn commence to saving lives and
property. Travel time plays a critical role in responding to a fire. If a fire station is two miles from a
fire but that particular fire station was closed due to budget cuts and the next fire station was located 8
miles away, the chances for injuries, loss of property, or even death is much

  • 3. Gandhi Case Study Gandhi was born in suppressed India in 1869, which was four years after the end of the American Civil War. Gandhi studied law in London, England. Gandhi liked that the English respected the law. Gandhi disapproved of India s caste system. What made Gandhi s Nonviolent Movement Work? Gandhi used at least three different tactics to make nonviolence work: disciplined civil disobedience, accepting jail time, and embracing the enemy. One nonviolent tactic that Gandhi used to make nonviolence work was disciplined civil disobedience. According to Webb Miller, The marchers were disciplined by native police who beat them with metal pipes (Document B). Civil Disobedience allowed the Nonviolent Movement to work because the marchers were willing to die for change. Since they were willing to sacrifice themselves to get independence tales me that independence was really important to India. Even though the marchers got beaten up badly, they did not fight back. By not fighting back, India was getting closer to get freedom. Webb Miller was there when the marchers were getting hurt. He wrote down everything he saw and shared with the world. By sharing with the world, people put pressure to Britain because now the world know what Britain is doing to India. This helped India to get independence because it hurt Britain s reputation. One nonviolent tactic that Gandhi used to make nonviolence work was by accepting jail time. When Gandhi was in South Africa, he went to prison, In his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Climate Change On Human Activities The Fraudulence of Climate Change Humans have been emitting increasingly large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere since the industrial revolution. A common misconception created by the Liberal Left is that this pollution is harmful to the atmosphere and is a direct cause of climate change. However many studies have disputed this claim, conversely concluding that pollution caused by human activities are not correlated to climate change in any way. In the theory of climate change, there is one undisputable fact, human pollution has risen significantly during the past century. Some scientists may claim that this pollution fuels climate change. A significant flaw in this theory is that climate change isn t even occurring. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact this exact scenario happened! Up until the Little Ice Age in the 14th and 15th centuries, the global temperature was rising. This took place before any industrialization, therefore there would be no human made pollution to cause this warming. This in itself exposes the fallacy of climate change. Any way you look at it, the climate change theory is flawed. If you accept the pre 1979 readings as true, then you would see an isolated case of global warming which could not have been caused by human pollution, thus proving climate change is a natural phenomenon. If you only take into account the post 1979 readings, then you will see that climate change is not even occurring. The climate change theory has been plagued by scandals. The Left is promoting climate change in order to push their own political agenda. Since climate change is potentially devastating to the earth, which everyone wants to preserve, then liberals can use this issue as a trump card. They are basically saying that in order to avoid extinction, we need to vote for them above anyone else who doesn t accept climate change as fact. Politicians feed on climate change s imminent destruction in order to sway moderate voters to the left. They appeal to our primal instincts of self preservation in order to become elected, and once elected, they can pass unrelated legislation. In addition to politicians, environmentalists benefit from the theory of climate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is crossing all the borders and races. Violence against women is a very serious and sensitive issue as it is one of the most pervasive of human rights violation denying fundamental rights to almost half of population (females and girls).Domestic violence is much more drastic than violence outside because home is a place where individual seeks love, security, safety and shelter but we can t deny the fact that it is also a place that imperils lives. Violence is used as a weapon to exert power over others. It s a misconception that violence against female is generated by males only. In reality it is of both types inter sex and intra sex. Even mother who bears equal labor pains during birth of her children discriminates between her son and daughter. In India where domestic violence persists in want of dowry females also play their role in victimizing women. Husband is not the only accused in bride burning cases participation of females like mother in law and sister in law are also included. Another great cause of domestic violence in India is want of male child. Researches indicate that 30%of the abuse starts during pregnancy; during which a woman needs special care and attention; they are deprived of basic amenities like medicines and healthy diet even during pregnancy. Nearly about two third of females are anaemic which leads to death of mother or child during child birth. Early marriages, forced marriages, honor killing , acid throwing, trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, female foeticide and female infanticide , neglect of women health problems , compelling and humiliating women, alcoholism of the husband are some of the other forms of violence against women in India. • 7. Video Gaming And High Performance Gamming Computers In the past decade gamming has evolved from the most simplistic of forms to one of the most action packed entertainment that rivals that of a movie. Along with games the hardware use to run those games has also evolved to some of the most advanced technology s we know. With this new hardware there are different type of systems classifications like consoles, and high performance gamming computers. Among these two classifications I believe the gamming pc s are better than consoles. Here I am going to go over why I believe this based on price, functions available, control of functionality, choices of games, and community size. To start off let s look at the background of video games and how it evolved in to what it is today. Video gaming started becoming popular around the 1970 s when Atari released their pong arcade machine. (Atari, 99)during this time many first generation consoles started being released which included the Magnavox Odyssey, TV Tennis Electronics, and Home pong. Alongside those consoles home computers were starting to emerge like the commodore VIC 20, and the Amstrad CPC. (Bagnall Melick)Even though video gaming at the time was still in its infancy it was still a large factor in the market for selling of both of these consoles and computers. Also with such a big demand for video games the technology for both video games and the hardware to run video games got better, and cheaper. One such example is that of courtly love and it s implications. Courtly love being one of the more prominent themes in all of medieval literature, it is fittingly manifested in all of the lais as well. Another theme present in two of the lais is isolation. The theme of isolation plays a large role in the stories of Guigemar and Lanval. In each of these lais we see isolation as a factor in determining the fates of the central figures. Within each lai isolation is represented on several different occasions, each time having a direct impact on the outcome. These instances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prison is described as being of incomparable beauty and being decorated with poetic images. The walls of the chamber were covered in paintings in which Venus, the goddess of love, was skillfully depicted together with the nature and obligations of love; how it should be served with loyalty and good service. (p.46) The lady was indeed alone, isolated from all except for her servant and the lord, upon his command. No one, man or woman, could have gained access to this spot, or escaped from this walled enclosure. (p.46) Thus far Guigemar s isolation as well as the lady s isolation may be seen as vehicles for their introduction to one another. In the lai of Guigemar we are presented with isolation as a physical removal from others. Whether it be Guigemar alone in the woods or the lady alone in her prison home, the isolation is always physical and forced, even if it be a force of magic such as the curse of the magical animal on Guigemar which draws him to the magic ship. In the case of Lanval this is often times not the case. With Lanval we often see isolation as a more psychological event. In the story s opening we see Lanval as being isolated from the very court and king he serves. He apportioned wives and lands to all, save to one who had served him: this was Lanval, whom he did not remember, and for whom no one put in a good word. (p.73) Immediately we see ... The Security and Exchange Commission is the organization who monitors fraudulent transactions and insider trading. Some experts in ethical behavior consider inside trading the most dramatic form of utilitarian ethics. Martha s Ethical Behavior Since 2002 Martha Stewart was investigated by the SEC and the FBI for Inside Trading but it is interesting that she wasn t found guilty or accused on any of those charges; she was charge for conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statement. It was her un ethical behavior what drove her into innumerable allegations and public embarrassments. There are at least four issues in this case where ethics play a very interesting and critical role; Freedom of speech, Conspiracy, Right of property and Inside trading. 1. Freedom of Speech When Martha Stewart was accused the first problem presented was the Media and how her case was going to be handled. Martha s Stewart lawyer Robert Morvillo along with Martha s publicist and show producers orchestrated a plan to keep Martha s image as clean and honest as possible. They didn t waste time by using the media, Martha s TV show and Magazine to defend her position and manipulate the public opinion towards Martha s innocence. • 11. Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene Therapy Research Paper Gene therapy is described as the transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 1 During the 1960 s and early 70 s the actual concept of what is now known to be gene therapy arose. Many new practices including the development of genetically marked cell lines and the delineation of cells transformation by the papaovaviruses polyoma were in the works. Cloned genes became a product of this new DNA technique and were used to prove that foreign genes could actually correct genetic disorders.2 This new technology in the medical field has a wide range of uses that is constantly growing larger as scientists continue to study and experiment with it. As of right now, the uses of gene therapy in the medical field consist of replacing missing or defective genes, delivering genes that speed the destruction of cancer cells, supplying genes that cause cancer cells to revert to their normality, delivering bacterial or viral genes as a form of vaccination, providing genes that promote or impede the growth of new tissue and delivering genes that stimulate the healing of damaged tissue.3 With this information, a wide variety of genes are now being used for testing within gene therapy. In the mid 1980 s the first use of gene therapy was practiced and then seen in a four year old girl when she became the first gene therapy patient on September 14, 1990 at the NH Clinical Center. The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse-Five Essay The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse Five Many writers in history have written science fiction novels and had great success with them, but only a few have been as enduring over time as Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. Slaughterhouse Five is a personal novel which draws upon Vonnegut s experience s as a scout in World War Two, his capture and becoming a prisoner of war, and his witnessing of the fire bombing of Dresden in February of 1945 (the greatest man caused massacre in history). Since the story is narrated by a omniscient being that is everywhere with Billy Pilgrim, the reader gets a first hand account of every event in his life. Also Billy is very relaxed and accepting all things around him. A good example of this is Billy s habit of following every death with so it goes . • 13. The Importance Of Cultural Heritage In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being an important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to institute economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in Banksy s graffiti of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along with mass and cyber media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible to safeguard the cultural legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Brainy Quote). Being unique and irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our religion, customs and ancestors and charges us to preserve it for the future generations. However, culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat caused by rapid modernization. Culture cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world where people have a tendency to become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of societies and new opportunities is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. • 15. Desire Under The Elms By Eugene O Neill Desire Under the Elms by Eugene O Neill is a modern twist on the mythological tale of Phaedra and Hippolytus. In writing this piece, in 1924, O Neill delivers a captivating and somewhat comical version of the classic myth. Stuck in the transition from the Modernism to Postmodernism movements, O Neill struggled to define himself as either a modernist or postmodernist. The Modernism movement is made up of a variety of different movements: philosophical, artistic, and literary. The artistic and literary Modernism movement, which occurred in the late 19th and early 20th century, is marked by the concepts of experimentation and individualism, signifying sudden breaks with traditional values of literature, philosophy, and culture. In comparison, postmodernism, which developed in the mid to late 20th century held the idea that reality is not based on societal understanding of it, but, on individual perception and interpretation. While both have similarities, the perceptions of individuality in these movements differ on a relatively large scale. In the Modernist movement, it was socially correct to adhere to what was specifically deemed acceptable. In contrast, in the postmodernist movement, one style of living was not any less acceptable than another because each person determined what is considered valuable to them individually. Though modernism and postmodernism are marked by distinctive ways of thinking and social norms, these periods actually faced quite an overlap. While ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Current initiatives that Tuality has in the works for 2015 is to improve diversity of its workforce and, therefore, improve its service to the minority population in the area. Based on the Community Health Needs Assessment Report, the population configuration of whom Tuality serves averages roughly 25% Latino patients (Tuality Healthcare, 2014). To better serve those patients, Tuality must attract, hire and retain more minority employee in direct patient care professions such as physicians and nurses that will reflect a better match to the patient base. The third pillar, community reputation for unparalleled value, is perhaps the largest hurdle to overcome. It is hard to expect patients to use Tuality if they do not believe they will get good value for their money and have positive health outcomes. Because of being a small organization, Tuality has to work harder to achieve similar outcomes of patient satisfaction than its larger Portland area counterparts. Aggressive behavior hurts relationships by making it hard to get along. Yet, often the question arises whether it is aggressive people or children who are drawn to video games rather than video games causing them to become aggressive. Studies have been done to answer this question. One study found that compared with a group who had played a nonviolent video game, those who had been engaged in Mortal Kombat were more aggressive across the board. They gave their fellow students significantly bigger portions of the hot sauce (Carey). Examples of increased aggressive behaviors climax when events such as real life attacks and shootings happen and can be attributed to video games. Now I wouldn t say video games are the only factor in events like these but it s hard to imagine they play no significant role either. Take the following drastic event as an example: Two men accused of running down Jerry Steinberg with a car, then beating and kicking him into a coma, . . . had spent part of the previous night drinking beer and playing Grand Theft Auto III . . . After attacking Steinberg, they played the video game again, police were told. Meanwhile, about five miles away, Steinberg s family gathered at Saint Mary s Mercy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Grail Quest in the Play At the HawkĀ“S Well by W.B.Yeats 1 The Grail Quest in the Play At the Hawk s Well by William Butler Yeats A search for that which gives meaning to life has always occupied human minds. The ancient scholars, philosophers, writers and intellectuals devoted many years of their lives to find the answer. They created various theories religious and philosophical to explain the system of the universe and find the source of all things. On example of William Butler Yeats play At the Hawk s Well and Chretien s romance Le Conte du Graal I shall show the way the both authors concern this subject. First, I shall give the historical background of the play and explain the symbolic importance of Cuchulain for Yeats. Second, I shall find and interpret the Celtic symbols in the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Rhys advanced the theory that Gawain and Cuchulain is one character. He bases the theory on similarity between their careers and on the fact that both possessed a specific quality their strength waxed and waned with the rising and setting of the son (Matthews 29). John Matthews explains this theory in detail in his book Sir Gawain: Knight of the Goddess. Loomis states that the Irish traditions have reached the French through Wales and has no doubt that the Grail legend is a Celtic heritage (Loomis Arthurian Tradition 341). The central symbol in the romance is the Grail. William Nitze and Roger Loomis maintain the Celtic usage of the word, meaning dish or platter, which has the attribute that whatever food was wished thereon was instantly obtained (Nitze 322). I assume the symbolic reading of the symbol and come back to Yeats essay who saw it as a source of fertility and abundance (Skene 126). The parallel appears clear. Both symbols have one semantic meaning in common, that is of vessel. And both may be generally seen as vessels of energy. ā€žThere is no reason to be concerned with the Grail as a physical object. It is simply not possible to know what it stands for precisely , writes Frederik Locke (9). He describes the Grail as ā€žbeing multivalent, open on all sides to the power of evocation (9). • 20. The Secession Crisis Of 1860-1861 Between 1846 and 1861, many events had impacts on the United States that lead up to the secession crisis of 1860 1861. Slavery had great impacts on the country, such as the economic effect of the South overestimating its importance due to the prevalence of slave grown cotton. Westward expansion had the social effect of the citizens of territories wanting statehood to get into arguments and civil wars due to popular sovereignty. States rights had the political effect of the southern states believing that since they agreed to become part of the United States, they could just as easily leave the country. Without a doubt, the social, economic, and political effects of slavery, westward expansion, and states rights lead to the secession crisis of 1860 1861, with the political effects being seen the greatest. Slavery had major economic and social effects that lead up to the secession crisis of 1860 1861. Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis, as compared to westward expansion and states rights. Slavery had the largest effect on the secession crisis because economically, it made the South overestimate its importance. With large number of slaves working on plantations, the plantations could produce a lot of goods to send to the North. One major export from the South to the North was cotton. Since the North was heavily reliant on Southern cotton, the South believed that if they would secede they would cripple the North s economy, making the North more likely to ... Eating disorders have been on the rise among teenagers, and whether or not pro anorexia websites should be banned is a hot topic of debate. People are quick to judge pro anorexia websites since they promote unhealthy lifestyles, but these websites can actually be a positive resource for those who suffer from eating disorders. Understanding Pro Anorexia Websites On a pro anorexia website, one might find pictures of unhealthily thin women, advice on how to stop eating, and motivational posts to help those who suffer from anorexia reach their goal weight. Some users even provide tips on how to overcome the various side effects that come with anorexia fainting spells, fatigue, and dehydration. These websites are usually blogs or discussion boards, and users often anonymously post and interact with others. For many sufferers, pro anorexia websites are the only resource that they feel comfortable resorting to. The Importance of Anonymity Those who suffer from eating disorders often resort to internet discussion boards because they are anonymous. • 34. Theme Morality In Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton The author, Edith Wharton uses the theme morality, to describe the feelings of the characters. Wharton displays the theme throughout the story with symbols, motifs, and irony; he wants to be able to connect to the readers. The novel uses morality as a sense of principles between right and wrong. Morality seems to have its up and downs in the story, as it does in real life. The author uses this particular type of theme with characters to have a more realistic plot and to help the reader understand of what is going on in the book. In the novel Ethan Frome morality is a constant obstacle faced with the characters. Ethan principles are challenged throughout the novel with his feelings for Mattie. She stood just as Zeena had stood, a lifted lamp in her hand, against the black background of the kitchen. She held the light at the same level, and it drew out with the same distinctness her slim young throat and the brown wrist no bigger than a child s. Ethan faces the rights and wrongs for his feelings, and often has to put his feelings on hold. • 38. Color Purple Archetypes Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple, portrays the main character Celie as an introverted butterfly who has yet to come out of her cocoon, hiding away from confrontation and actions that could cause negative reactions. As the story progresses, she blossoms before the reader, becoming more present in her world where she would otherwise be shuttered in. Her character development is due to the introduction of two very empowering and independent women, acting as female archetypes throughout the novel. Shug, a woman with a fiery personality that ignites inspiration in Celie to further herself as a woman, is the main focal point of the female archetype in this novel. Celie wants to change herself; not to fit into the mold in which Shug has pushed herself into, but to better her life. Shug s personality was able to rid Celie of the internal dark cloud living inside her. Shug is clearly identified as a female archetype throughout the novel; an empowering woman who stands against the odds she has been faced with. Another female archetype in the novel is Sofia, Mr._____ s (Celie s husband) daughter in law. Sofia shares many qualities when compared to Shug; however, in a more feisty and stand ... Throughout the novel, Shug transitions from the bitter, confrontational women who detests Celie to the person who is there to pick her up and dry her tears, becoming a caregiver of sorts. She can also be seen as possessing the hero archetype because Celie admires Shug and aspires to be similar to her, not in her behavior but her confident personality. Celie sees how easily it is for Shug to stand up for herself and to act confident around higher male figures, both are things she has never managed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, employees should be protected by law as well as organization. This assignment presents several situations where liability issues can occur at any given time. Also, this assignment identifies how the following case applies to the three scenarios: Abella v. Simon, 831 F. Supp.2d 1316 (2011) U.S. Dist. LEXIS 136238 (S.D. Fla. 2011), and how to evade liability issue. Scenario 1 (Filing a Police Report): Ms. Tree a local of Lee, Florida filed a complaint. Ms. Tree has been arrested for many criminal acts. The Merry Court says that if a false report is used in some way which damages a subject, some form of legal right might be available, but that is not the situation in the present case. The Constitution is not violated by a police officer s failure to make a report, the creation of an inaccurate report, or the failure to have an inaccurate report corrected. This claim fails because there is no rights to have the police write a police report. Courts have held that there is no legitimate right to correct police information. An allegedly incorrect police report fails to implicate constitutional rights; Landrigan v. City of Warwick, 628 F.2d 736, 745 (1st Cir.1980). If it is not a constitutional violation to file a false police report, it cannot be a constitutional (as cited in Abella v. Simon, 831 F.Supp.2d 1316, (S.D.Fla.2011). Both subjects claiming the officer not filing a police report correctly or not writing a report. Courts have held that there is no constitutional right to a correct police report. The entablature and pediment rest on top of the columns, forming post and lintel construction. The entablature often contains friezes in the Ionic order, and metopes and triglyphs in the Doric. The metopes were often painted and the triglyphs may have symbolized wood cross beams that would have been used before the knowledge of stone construction was developed. The Ionic friezes often contained sculpted figures that relate in some way to the functionality of the temple or building. The pediment, which rests on the entablature, usually has the shape of an isosceles triangle with sculpture that varies from low relief to sculpture in the round. The organization of the columns around the main body of the temple varies in about five major styles. The first three have a small rectangular shaped building called a cella with two to four columns in front, as with the in antis style and the prostyle, or with an additional four columns in back as with the amphiprostyle temples. The last two styles consist of a larger rectangular building divided into two rooms, one functioning as a cella. These two styles are mainly differentiated by one row of columns surrounding the structure, called peripteral, or with two rows of columns, called dipteral. If one looks at the picture with these standards of Greek architecture in mind, some noticeable similarities and differences occur. • 41. The United States Navy Essay The United States of America has not always been the world superpower that it is today. The same goes for its Navy. In the first several years of existence, the United States Navy was not a formidable fighting force. The young nation was hesitant to invest in a navy for many reasons, one of them being to prevent provoking the world powers of the time, France and Britain. On top of that, navies were very expensive to build and required a significant amount of resources to maintain, which the U.S. did not have at the time. To say that the United States Navy was ill prepared for war would be a dramatic understatement. The U.S. had a total of fifteen ships in its entire naval fleet compared to the might of the Royal Navy which possessed over six hundred warships. Even with the odds stacked against the U.S., President Madison declared war on 18 JUN 1812. The lack of size and power of the navy at the time would make it extremely difficult to satisfy the needs of the newly founded nation. The U.S. had enough of the British Navy impressing American sailors and seizing American merchant ships. Even though the U.S. Navy lacked the size that British had, the Royal Navy was stretched to its limits. Many of the British efforts were focused on the Napoleonic wars taking place in Europe, leaving just two dozen British ships between Halifax and Bermuda. The U.S. frigates were larger and had much more armament than those of the British giving the U.S. one more key advantage over their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Incident Management Case Study Since the early 1800 s the Federal government has been involved with assisting local disasters by supplying financial assistance to those communities that had been destroyed by fire. A fire rippled through a New Hampshire town in 1803, and that was the first instance of Federal government assistance after a local disaster. Throughout the years, legislation has continued to provide funding to areas that have been devastated by fire. In 1934, the Flood Control Act was birthed into legislation. Overload would be intact and the stress level of the firefighters will increase. Because of budget cuts and the closing of some fire stations, and the laying off of firefighters and civilians, the 9 1 1 calls will not stop, the calls will continue to come.
