Rape Culture Analysis
Rape culture is the environment in which rape is common and sexual violence against women is
normalized by the media. Rape culture is promoted with the use of misogynistic language, the
objectification of women s bodies, and the glamorization of sexual violence, which creates a society
that ignores the rights and safety of women. In 2013, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams released the
summer hit Blurred Lines, which became known as a rape song. Blurred Lines is the perfect example
of how rape culture is used by the media while using misogynistic language, objectification of women
s bodies, and glamorization of sexual violence. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Blurred Lines
uses misogynistic lyrics that promotes rape culture. The first use of misogynistic language is in the
bridge of the song when Thicke sings Tried to domesticate you, But you re an animal. Thicke is
obviously comparing a girl to an animal in this lyric, but he also mentions that someone tried to
domesticate her, which means that they trained to tame which implies he owns her. The ownership of a
woman is a misogynistic way of thinking because people cannot own other people. Then in the hook
of the song Thicke calls the girl a Good girl, which is very condescending because it sounds like he is
speaking down to her. This suggest that he is superior to her and is asserting his male dominance. In
the second verse of the song Thicke sings You the hottest bitch in this place, which is a

Deborah Tannen There Is No Unmarked Woman
There is something subtle about attitudes toward women, something that many people act in
accordance to but are only subconsciously aware of. It is the constant judgment that women face, and
it is also something Deborah Tannen noticed while sitting in an ordinary meeting one day. During that
meeting, she found herself noticing only the females of the room, not the men. Tannen then realized
that it was because The men s styles were unmarked (Tannen 389). While there are standard hairstyles
and clothing for men, there are none for women. Everything that a woman wears is a reflection of who
she is. In her piece titled There Is No Unmarked Woman, she writes about her experience and
concludes that women cannot escape judgment no matter what they do.
Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this piece, Tannen is sad and disappointed that women are still treated differently than men are.
According to Tannen, there is nothing a woman can resort to if she does not want to be judged. That is,
no woman is unmarked . For example, she states that There is no woman s hair style that can be called
standard, that says nothing about her. The range of women s hair styles is staggering, but a woman
whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks... (390). If a woman
were to opt for a plain hairstyle, it would still give a message. In writing about this, Tannen comes to a
startling conclusion. She finds that, even today, women have less

What Is The American Red Cross Ethical Responsibility
Assignment 1 The American Red Cross
Chantill Toyer Strayer University
HRM522 Ethical Advocacy for HR Professionals
Dr. Jeanette Horner Smith
October 26, 2014
ABSTRACT
Whether you open a business or a nonprofit organization one has to have a vision and mission for that
organization. An organizational mission is the goals one is aiming towards. The mission of the
American Red Cross (ARC) is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by
mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors (American Red Cross, 2014).
However, there are documented and undocumented times when an organization does not abide by the
values and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It plays important roles in society by placing public service above profit. They use a network of
donors, volunteers and employees around the world to relieve suffering by servicing five areas:
disaster relief, blood donations, providing support for American military families, providing health
and safety services and giving support through international humanitarian services. Although they
exist as a not for profit enterprise, business ethics are still essential to the success of any organization.
The American Red Cross has received the highest ethical performance from its employees and
volunteers because they give a responsible to the society (American Red Cross, 2011).
In September of 2011 terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Almost 3,000
people die and more than 6,000 were injured and in need of help. The American Red Cross raised
more than 500 million dollars in response to the 9/11 attacks. There was a problem because they only
distributed 154 million dollars in aid. The question than became where the money went. The American
Red Cross claimed the money that was donated went into a big pool of money that was distributed by
the company s corporate governance (The Socialist Worker, 2005). In addition, The American Red
Cross urged people to donate blood even though the blood was not needed at that time and a good
amount of it was destroyed. In the end, The American criticized by the

Analysis Of The Cashier s Counter At New Moon Grocery
On September 23, 2015, Gary Stasiuk, approached the cashier s counter at New Moon Grocery, which
is located on 295 Grammatan Avenue in Mount Vernon. Stasiuk claims that he gave the cashier a
twenty dollar bill to pay for the only item he was purchasing, a Swanson microwavable chicken
dinner. The cashier, David Eu, asserted that Stasiuk gave him a ten dollar bill, and Eu gave Stasiuk
change appropriate for a ten dollar bill payment. Stasiuk said Where s the rest? I gave you a twenty
dollar bill! Eu responded, No, sir. You gave me a ten dollar bill. Stasiuk became enraged and yelled, I
gave you twenty bucks! Give me the correct change! When Eu insisted that Stasiuk had given him a
ten dollar bill, Stasiuk yelled, Don t f with me, man! I ve had it with people trying to screw me!
Stasiuk then swung his right arm and punched Eu on the left side of Eu s face with a closed fist.
Stasiuk then immediately left the grocery store. Eu s daughter witnessed the event and followed
Stasiuk out of the grocery store where she called to a nearby police officer, Officer William Podzus.
Officer Podzus detained Stasiuk while he spoke with Eu, and after learning of the events of the
incident, arrested Stasiuk for Assault in the Third Degree, pursuant to N.Y. Penal Law Section

Racial Disparities Of Black Students
For decades there has been research conducted on the racial disproportion of black student s
suspension in schools compared to white students (Skiba et al., 2000; Skiba et al., 2002; Wald and
Losen, 2003; Welsh and Payne, 2010; Kinsler, 2011; Wright et al., 2014). Recently, the Department of
Education Office for Civil Rights (2014) study revealed that black students were three times more
likely to be suspend and 3.5 times more likely than their white peers to be expelled. In the studies
conducted, racial gaps in suspension rates are persistently found and still remains a significant
unknown when using different analytical strategies and methodologies (Wright et al. 2014). It is
important to note that no studies have yet been able to account for the different variables that
contributes to the racial disparity in school discipline. A deeper investigation of past and present
research literature is useful in the determining variables that may contribute to the racial gap in school
suspensions and its purposed channel in the school to prison pipeline. Some earlier researcher s
suggestions have been socioeconomic factors, the lower academic performance of black students, the
difference in behavioral problems, or the lower academic expectations of black students from teachers
to support the racial gap in suspension (Magnuson and Waldfogel, 2005; McCarthy and Hoge, 1987;
Tenenbaum and Ruck, 2007). Even in studies that attempted to control for social economic status and

Social Media Oxymoron
The Social Media Oxymoron Social Media might be the best worst thing to ever happen to our current
times. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share
content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or
business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent
times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and
Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can
communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social
applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our
times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news
and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? Social media is becoming an
important part of life online as social websites and applications generate more of a following. Most
social media sites include components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is
used to promote products, promote brands, connect to current customers and create new business.
Customers can use social media sites to offer ideas for future products or the improvement of old
ones. On the other hand, the integration of social media in the business world can also caused

Taking a Look at Neoconservatism
Neoconservatism
Neoconservatism is one of the most well known and distinctive sociopolitical trends to emerge in the
1970s. In modern politics, many neoconservatives are often dyed in the wool rightists; however the
movement was originally conceived and shaped by a collective of former leftists and liberal
Democrats who had become disillusioned with the left due to the many political struggles of the
nation during the 1960s, and what they perceived as guilt ridden anti Americanism embraced by the
left in the wake of the anti Vietnam War movement. (Nuechterlein 1996) In fact, Merriam Webster s
dictionary defines neoconservative as a former liberal espousing political conservatism. During the
1960s, Neoconservatives were staunchly opposed to communism, the counterculture movement,
particularly the political radicalism and its animus against authority, custom, and tradition. (Ball and
Dagger 2013)
In 1965, two prominent New York neoconservatives, columnist Irving Kristol, and sociologist Daniel
Bell established The Public Interest, a quarterly public policy journal focusing on the political
economy of the United States and culture. The magazine often espoused dissatisfaction with social
reforms of the 1960s, which were viewed as having destroying the moral values of the country. The
magazine would go on to become the leading neoconservative publication for the next 40 years.
Throughout the 1970s, as many neoconservatives rose to political prominence, giving the

Nike Wacc Case
NIKE INC. CASE 14
Philip Chen, Choco Huang, Ariel Chou, Matt Krieger
In this report we analyzed Cohen s approach in calculating WACC. After observing how Cohen
derived his figures we came up with our own WACC, terminal value, and EPS.
Cohen broke down his calculations into five parts 1) Single or Multiple Costs of Capital 2) Proportion
of capital from debt and equity 3) Cost of Debt 4) Cost of Equity 5) WACC
In part one; we disagreed with Cohen where he decided to value the company as a whole instead of
valuing each division separately. Since Nike is a multidivisional firm Cohen should of aggregated the
values of the individual divisions and calculate a different cost of capital for each one. Since the

The beta is the 0.69 YTD 06/30/2001 figure and our risk premium is the arithmetic mean. Both are
found in exhibit 4. We used the arithmetic mean because it is a better indicator of the average returns
in the past and 71% of financial analysts prefer arithmetic mean over geometric mean. Geometric
mean is not preferred because (PLEASE ADD WHY NOT HERE. I REMEBER BOB DOING AN
EXAMPLE IN CLASS WHERE GEOMETRIC MEAN IS A TRICK ON STUIPID INVESTORS).
Here is our calculation of CAPM.
CAPM=5.39%+0.69(7.50%). CAPM= 10.6%
In Part 5 we can summarize our calculations for WACC. Table 1.2 shows our WACC. | Portion | Cost
(K) | Contribution to WACC | Common Share | 30.57% | 10.60% | 3.24% | Debt | 69.43% | 9% | 6.25%
| | | WACC | 9.49% |
Our WACC is higher than Cohen s because of the portions allocated to debt and equity, and the use of
market value to calculate cost of debt.
Since WACC has changed the terminal value will also change. The formula for terminal value= year
10 FCF*(1+L T growth)/ (WACC L T growth). We used the L T growth in exhibit 4, which is forecast
of dividend growth at 5.50%. Therefore the new terminal value is 41,584. Since terminal value has
changed the discounted present value of future cash flow will also change. The new discounted PV of
FCF less debt is 21,224. The new EPS is $67.50 (21,224/271.5).

Marijuana in the New World Essay
Marijuana in the New World The first definite record of the marijuana plant in the New World dates
from 1545 AD, when the Spaniards introduced it into Chile. It has been suggested, however, that
African slaves familiar with marijuana as an intoxicant and medicine brought the seeds with them to
Brazil even earlier in the sixteenth century. There is no record that the Pilgrims brought marijuana
with them to Plymouth but the Jamestown settlers did bring the plant to Virginia in 1611, and
cultivated it for its fiber. Marijuana was introduced into New England in 1629. From then until after
the Civil War, the marijuana plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial
period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings
continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large hemp
plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and other states,
as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production, however, was in
Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L. Allen, wrote in 1900: The
Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western wilderness before they became
sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made necessary by the hauling of hemp. For
the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired, bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold;
fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the decline, lasting still. The invention of the
cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and competition from cheap imported hemp, were
major factors in this decline

Advantages Of Objective Motion Devices
Introduction
Continue passive motion is the passive motion performed by a mechanical device that move a joint
slowly and continually through a controlled of range of motion (Carolyn Kisner, 2012). Continue
passive motion device exist in the market for nearly every joint in the body such as shoulder continue
passive motion machine, knee continue passive motion machine, elbow continue passive motion
machine and ankle continue passive motion machine. Continue passive motion device allow the joint
to move for hours in time. Continue passive motion device make the joint to flex or extent in a preset
range of motion and time of repetition. The movement produce by the device is slow and controlled
and thus the patient does not actively exert force on the muscle to produce movement. Continue

Duration for applying continue passive motion is usually less than one week or when the certain desire
range is reached. Continue passive motion device can be used in home since it is portable.
Physiotherapist can instruct the caregiver or family member the proper use of the device since it is
benefit to the patient.
7. Continue passive motion device is adjustable, easy control, versatile and portable. There are some
devices which allow the individual to wear for up to 8 hours since it is operate by using the
rechargeable battery.
Disadvantage of the continue passive motion
1. Continue passive motion brings the detrimental effect. Using continue passive motion will cause the
need for greater analgesia intervention and increased postoperative blood drainage.
2. Cost of using the continue passive motion machine, patient compliance, utilization and supervision
of the equipment by trained personnel, length of hospital stay, speed of recovery and determination of
appropriate patient population become issues to consider whether or not to utilize the continue passive

Essay On Cardiopulmonary Bypass
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has contributed to the evolution of modern day cardiac surgery. The
establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out complicated
surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex congenital cardiac
lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in equipment and use of
innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality and/or morbidity in
patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the modern day settings. However the necessity for monitoring
the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One of the key areas monitored
during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features of CPB like unphysiological
flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and rewarming), practices like
hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences like Systemic Inflammatory
Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae. The possibility of neurological
sequelae is enhanced in neonatal cardiopulmonary bypass, wherein the concept of extra corporeal
circulation is stretched to its limits. Hence neurological monitoring assumes a central place in the
practice of safe, optimal perfusion . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of GPS Tracking
GPS Tracking Stands on One Level with Data Privacy and Security: Fact or Myth
The term Global Positioning System conjures up images of GPS devices being used in space age
technology and vehicle navigation systems. GPS tracking devices have also become a part of our daily
lives today. However, many people are sceptical about the use of these handy devices. Many people
claim that they will face data privacy and security issues on using it. But, how much of this statement
is true? Do others have access to your information unless and until you share them? It is true that the
person having access to the GPS tracker will know the exact location of the concerned individual.
With the advancement of technology and GPS manufacturers striving to strengthen security aspects,
the chances of data being leaked have become negligible. Many families and business owners have
started to trust the system and are applying it in different ways. In fact, these applications have made
its way into animal tracking, farming and even gaming technology. Animal tracking helps in
monitoring endangered species and their behaviour in such way, so they and their habitat can be better

As a strategy to build an efficient team it is important to have a good leader and for each individual
team member to know what task he or she will take on. This is why communication is so important.
The team needs to be able to communicate with one another. To communicate issues, ideas, thoughts
and all other information that needs to be shared.
Challenges or Barriers
Some challenges or barriers that may happen with building teams are miscommunication, jealously,
members may feel as if another member is not completing his or her share of work, and some
members may not be used to working with a team. Miscommunication can lead to many issues. If
everyone in the team is not on the same page it will be hard for the team to meet their goals and
complete task. Jealously can also occur and cause a team member to not try as hard to complete his or
her share of work. If this happens the entire team will suffer. One of the most common conflicts have
been faced in working in teams is the fact that some team members may not contribute as much as
others. This can causes hurtles and may even cause groups to form within the team causing separation.
Another barrier that can arise is the fact that some team members may not be used to working with
others and may not be able to trust that his or her team will complete their share of the task.

The Decline Of Western Culture
Schaeffer Critique
Purpose of Text and Intended Audience The purpose of the book is to discuss the decline of Western
culture by analyzing history from his perspective from Rome to his present day (the 1970 s). Schaeffer
(2005) presents the idea that to redeem society Christians must live as God desires and completely live
by the Bible s teachings of morals and values. The intended audience would be Christians, because the
entire tone of the book comes from a Christian worldview. Although, non believers may read the book,
they may not glean insights from it like believers.
Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our
history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book
Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the
way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent.
Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is
the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that
everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. His
issue is that Western Civilization is declining and tracing history can shed light on why and how we
should live to reverse the effects (Schaeffer, 2005).

Japanese Internment Innocent
Prison for the Innocent
Imagine being trapped within a society that has no diversity and you are locked out from the real
world. That is exactly what the government did to these innocent people. The innocent ones who are
looked at as if they had done something wrong. The ones who are looked upon as criminals. The
luxurious imprisonment enclosed the many innocent Japanese Americans also known as the Japanese
Internment. In 1891 Japanese immigrants arrived in the U.S. to work as agricultural laborers.
December 7,1941 Japan bombed U.S. ships and planes at the pearl harbor military base in Hawaii.

DISCUSSION
The Department s Representative LB testified that the Appellant filed an application for MA and
HCBS in February 2017. The Application was initially submitted electronically and then a paper
application was received. The MA/HCBS combination application was initially denied for failure to
provide verification of an emergency medical condition. The Department realized that the Appellant
had case activity on two different record numbers therefore, requested new medical information and
the application was reviewed again. The IMCW testified that on April 25, 2017, the medical

The Appellant s Representative argued that his father needs open heart surgery and will need aides to
come out while he is recuperating. Due to his age of eighty seven (87), he is prone to falling and need
someone to look after him. The Appellant s Representative testified that he comes home at lunch time
and on breaks to care for his father since there is no one there to do it, but cannot stop work
completely to take care of him. The Appellant s Representative believes that his father should be
eligible for MA and HCBS and does not agree with the Department s decision. The Appellant s
Representative concluded that more medical information was issued to the Department in July 2017,
that the Department failed to address or issue an updated Notice.

Essay about America in 1934
America in 1934
In the Midwest, farmers were losing their land to mortgage foreclosures. American tourist deaths were
attributed to a terrorist attack. A president known for his effective use of the media governed the
United States. The U.S. cooperated in a change of government in the Philippines. Parents and
churches criticized motion pictures for eroding American morals. And Appalachian State, after setting
a new enrollment record, received favorable publicity in a national magazine. Sound familiar? Think
again; you re 55 years off. The year was 1934 in the U.S.A.

The air mail mistake weakened public confidence in [Roosevelt] more than any other event in [his]
first New Deal year (Phillips 194).
An anonymous artist calling himself Jere Miah II contributed Nightmare of 1934, a four by eight foot
canvas, to the Westchester (N.Y.) Institute of Fine Arts. The painting featured President Roosevelt with
a vulture perched on his shoulder and holding a fishing line with a sucker at its end and a bouquet of
microphones in his other hand. His advisors were pictured as green monsters with swollen heads, and
Cabinet and Roosevelt family members were caricatured. When crowds thronged to view the painting,
the museum president placed it on a separate wall and charged twenty five cents admission ( Poor
White s Art 33).
A group of Northern industrialists and disaffected Democrats formed the American Liberty League as
an anti New Deal political party. Because the party represented wealthy interests, it never gained labor
and farm support. Often voters reacted to Liberty League positions by increasing their support of
Roosevelt programs (Leuchtenburg 54). The 73rd Congress passed a bill to provide the Philippines
full independence after a ten year trial period of self government ( In Extremis 11). The Supreme
Court, deciding an appeal by the Schechter Poultry Company in Brooklyn, declared the National

Mid-Term Examination
In my social psychology class, there was a recent examination given to the class. It was the mid term
examination. For the mid term examination, the class was instructed to read chapter s 1 6 in the text
book. The class was also instructed to study for the exam by reviewing the lecture notes. In this paper
I will focus on a few questions I answered incorrectly on my mid term examination. The exam
contained 48 multiple choice questions and two true/false questions. Out of this 50 questions total, I
answered 18 incorrectly. One of the questions I will focus on is located on the second page. The
question reads, Nicole has just met some new people in her dorm. During a discussion on campus

I now see that covariation model is definitely not the answer. Another choice was the
representativeness heuristic. A mental shortcut through which people classify something as belonging
to a certain category to the extent that it is similar to a typical case from that category is the definition
of representativeness heuristic (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini 78). The correct answer to question 30,
which is a definition, is correspondent inference theory. Franklin dislikes the Rush Limbaugh radio
talk show. At a party, Franklin meets Jefferson, who lavishly praises the Rush Limbaugh show.
Franklin takes an instant dislike to Jefferson. Which of the following psychological theories would
best predict Franklin s response to Jefferson (Huck) , was also one of the questions I missed on the
mid term. This is question 46 which is located on the seventh page. For this question I answered
reciprocity theory. I don t even know if there is a reciprocity theory but there is a norm of reciprocity.
The norm of reciprocity requires that we repay others with the form of behavior they have given us
(Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 196). Franklin did not repay Jefferson with the same behavior so this is
not the answer. The balance theory states that we all prefer to have

Art in general is undergoing several changes with artists beginning to think about spatial illusions and
human form. Despite this, the changes seem subtle and understated. This discussion seeks to highlight
the changes that are happening in art and how artists are creating space in the work they do.
For the purposes of this discussion, I select the first image that talks about the difference between the
High Renaissance and the Early Renaissance and how artists are shaping the High Renaissance from
the original early Renaissance. There are a number of ways in which artists of the High Renaissance
are doing differently from the artists of before. From the selected image, tow artists of the current
Renaissance are highlighted; Leonardo and Michelangelo.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Qantas
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) encourages companies to take interest of all stakeholders into
consideration during their decision making process and not make their choices based solely upon the
interest of their shareholders. By bring socially responsible, the company would make choices that

Employee
As mentioned above, Qantas has announced its plan retrench up to 5,000 of their full time employees.
Employees are one of the most important stakeholder of the group, by sacking 5,000 full time
employees would definitely be a disadvantage on the stakeholder and an advantage on the
shareholders. This may be the results according to the shareholder theory where it is mentioned that
the firm should stay focus on creating wealth for its owners and allow the government establish legal

The article published in JAMA suggested the grim effects of childhood lead exposure not only
affecting a child during their youth, but continuously following them into adulthood. Childhood lead

Organization theory is about ideas and principles that flow within an association on how work can be
done by investigating through different perspective. It is important to study organization as
improvements can be carried out to make sure organizations are performing efficiently through
developing the organizations structure and mission statement. (Developing an enabling organisational
culture, changing organisational culture.). (See Apendix A for some applications of organizational

(Lundberg 2008).Schein is recognized as one of the most influential writers on corporate culture.
Schein interprets the historical factors concerning the origins of cultures through group and leadership
theory (1985: 148 150). As a result, he imposes a preordained structure on to the history of
organizational cultures, namely the story of a founder. As Schultz (1995: 25) points out, rather than
study the specific histories of organizations, Schein invokes psychological theories of the
psychodynamic makeup of leaders (1985: 172). He uses these to paint an idealised picture of how
organizations begin to create cultures through the actions of founders (Schein 1985: 221). This rests
on an assumption that culture and leadership are really two sides of the same coin (Michael Stephen
1999). Modernist believes that there is a positive correlation between organizational performance and
the strength of corporate culture. For them, strong organizational culture is getting people to agree. An
example of modernist perspective organization would be McDonalds. Workers in a McDonald s
restaurant are given a tight job description with clearly defined `movements´, which also includes
guidelines what to say to customers. Modernist therefore, focuses a lot on leader s power on
understanding culture in the organization to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

Banc One HBS case Essay
Banc One
Case Analysis
Case Summary Banc One has a problem with the alignment of two of its important strategies: (1)
rapidly acquiring profitable banks and (2) sustaining high returns while mitigating interest rate risk.
Banc One has been very successful in acquiring banks, and much of this is done through the
sale/transfer of Banc One s stock. This strategy relies heavily on Banc One s ability to maintain a high
stock price. The second strategy high returns with mitigated interest rate risk relies heavily on the use

Purchasing options, forward, or future contracts. In this way the bank can reduce the uncertainty in the
future by entering into an agreement with set terms for a specific date. Thus, if the interest rate moves
in an unfavorable direction, the bank has the option to use these tools in order to mitigate the impact
of the change on its balance sheet.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means?
Advantages:
There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Swaps do not appear as assets on the
balance sheet and thus they are not accounted for in the capital requirement calculations for the bank.
This frees capital for the bank and at the same time brings insurance against its interest rate exposure.
Swaps give flexibility and allow the bank to design the contracts in a way that fits its needs. Banks can
tailor the durations, rates and other terms of the swap contracts and make it specific to the current
situation of the bank. Furthermore, they can easily communicate with other banks in order to construct
contracts, which benefit both sides.
Swaps can also improve the bank s liquidity It can invest in short term instruments and thus avoid
locking in its funds in long term securities. At the same time it can add swaps to its portfolio in order
to mitigate some of the interest rate risk involved in the investment of short term

The Marketing And Communications For Plaza Home Health...
The current marketing and communications for Plaza Home Health Services is in desperate need of
upgrades. Fortunately, the owners now have the needed income to make identity improvements. This
is important because (Fortenberry 2010) whenever an infusion of resources occurs such as more
prosperous periods, healthcare marketers must comprehensively review their identity management
efforts to determine the most productive methods for utilizing these funds to affect the greatest
identity gains in the marketplace. (p.60)
The logo for Plaza Home Health Services is of poor quality. Consequently, the poorly designed logo
has caused a domino effect of poorly designed marketing communications such as their business
cards, brochures, and the signage located on the front of the building. To achieve identity, it is
important that their logo is in line with their target audience. According to Fortenberry, (2010) identity
is achieved through branding activities, with such activities generating logos, product names, slogans,
jingles, product packaging, building signage, and related identity vehicles for conveying desired
images to target audiences. (p.56) Mangin (2014) states that successful healthcare branding requires a
solid, organized commitment to delivering unique standards of consistency through the institution s

My Personal Values
Throughout our lifetime, us as people decide to admire different objects, ideas, and people due to what
pleases their thoughts and actions. The infinite examples of things we could ve valued could ve been
toys, friends, book, etc.. But then we began to mature and begin to come out of our little shells to
discover new products, views of the world, and new ways to advance in our technology and therefore
influencing what we value today. And as I matured in my lifetime, I established a novel value to my
parents the greatest.
My parents are currently the greatest influence on both me and my life. They ve taught me manner,
how to read, write, how to count, etc.. My parents are outstanding, both have jobs, and have gone
college. Not only that, but I express a lot of love and respect toward them for influencing my good
behaviors and actions in my lifetime. However my parents are both divorced, but that makes me want
to value both of them more than ever. But that doesn t stop me from valuing them. In fact, I have to
value both of them even more. For one, my mother is an Assistant Principal at Perez Elementary while
my father is a sheriff for Webb county. I really have to show respect for my mother because she is very
stressed out from work and me being in band, but the strictness she shows teaches me how to be a firm
person about life and how to be humble. Although my mom may be strict and stressed, my dad is a lot

The Essential Father By Louise Silverstein And Carl Auerbach

This news may come as a shock with another Father s Day upon us, but it s just some of what Louise
Silverstein and Carl Auerbach concluded in a jaw dropping study on fathers and fatherhood aptly titled
Deconstructing the Essential Father. Published in American Psychologist, a journal of the American

Fighting for rights does not have to be violent. Mother Jones fought for child labor laws, Cesar
Chavez fought for migrant workers rights, and Gandhi fought for independence from Britain. Mother
Jones, Cesar Chavez, and Mahatma Gandhi all helped to enact change by using peaceful methods to
get their points across. Mother Jones was a kind person who helped fight for child labor laws. The text
states, Nationwide, eighty thousand children worked in the textile industry. In the South, Mother Jones
had seen how dangerous their jobs were. Barefooted little girls and boys reached their tiny hands into
the treacherous machinery to repair snapped threads or crawled underneath the machinery to oil it. At
textile union headquarters, Mother Jones met more of these mill children. Their bodies were bone thin,
with hollow chests. Their shoulders were rounded from long hours spent hunched over the
workbenches. Even worse, she saw some with their hands off, some with the thumb missing, some
with their fingers off at the knuckles victims of mill accidents (Pinkerton Josephson). This shows the
struggle the children had to go through in the factories. Mother Jones wanted to fight for their rights
just because she wanted justice for the children. Pinkerton Josephson says, Mother Jones, now seventy
three, gathered a large group of mill children and their parents. She led them on a one mile march
from Philadelphia s Independence Square to its courthouse lawn. Mother Jones and a few

Research Question: Object oriented (OO) technology in software design and implementation has
gained popularity for cost reduction and quality improvement. Research the concept of OO. In 10
pages ( double spaced, 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins ), explain the evolution of OO,
how it differs from procedural programming, why it is more cost effective and how it can improve
software quality. The research project will be submitted through Turnitin Be sure to locate at least 6
sources to reference. Cite your sources. Abstract This paper is about the evolution of Object oriented
technology in software design and implementation and its role in current market for developing web
based products or server side scripting. Many Object oriented languages have come in market but
among them companies prefer to use open source OO languages such as Java, C++, C# .NET, and
Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these languages has increased because the cost of licensing is
very less or nothing. As these languages are open source, it easy to find relevant libraries and source
code for the developers while developing a product. The cost of the infrastructure such as
development IDE s or testing tools are also minimal or available for free. Hence all these factors
decrease the cost of developing a product using Object oriented technology. The basic concept of OO
language is Objects. An Object is a combination of attributes and behaviors. An object is an entity that

Information learned while high is difficult to recall. Conversations can be disjointed because of an

Schwan s Foodborne Illness Incident
Schwan s Sales Enterprise had the largest foodborne illness outbreak in history in Marshall, Minnesota
around 1994 (Rubenstein, 1998). Cliff Viessman, a tanker truck operator transported a shipment of
raw eggs that may have been infected with salmonella bacteria. The suspected contamination was
unknown to Viessman s employees. A foodborne illness is an infection or irritation of the
gastrointestinal that caused by food or beverages that contain harmful bacteria, parasites, viruses, or
chemicals. The company truck was parked and pressure washed to eliminate the bacteria. The next
assignment was to transport ice cream mix to the Schwan s plant (Rubenstein, 1998). Schwan s

After the inspection was completed, than that s when everyone would have found out the truth. When
it comes to issues such as this you want to make sure you are not taking the blame for someone else
error. I give Schwan s company credit for reacting so quickly. I feel they took it too far because they
took the blame and did not know who was really at fault. The company assumed they were at fault,
but nothing was proven at first. It was smart for them to do a recall on the ice cream and pull the ice
cream off the shelves. Schwan s company took the blame to find out Cliff Viessman, the tanker truck
operator was responsible for the foodborne illness outbreak. Viessman hauled raw eggs on the truck
but did not disinfect the truck properly. The company could have very well avoided a great financial
lost. It was a learning experience for Schwan s Sales Enterprises. They were able to rectify the
situation successfully. Schwan s company could have used the media to get the information out to
more individuals quicker. Media coverage is the best way to get important information out in a short
period of

  • 2. Rape Culture Analysis Rape culture is the environment in which rape is common and sexual violence against women is normalized by the media. Rape culture is promoted with the use of misogynistic language, the objectification of women s bodies, and the glamorization of sexual violence, which creates a society that ignores the rights and safety of women. In 2013, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams released the summer hit Blurred Lines, which became known as a rape song. Blurred Lines is the perfect example of how rape culture is used by the media while using misogynistic language, objectification of women s bodies, and glamorization of sexual violence. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams Blurred Lines uses misogynistic lyrics that promotes rape culture. The first use of misogynistic language is in the bridge of the song when Thicke sings Tried to domesticate you, But you re an animal. Thicke is obviously comparing a girl to an animal in this lyric, but he also mentions that someone tried to domesticate her, which means that they trained to tame which implies he owns her. The ownership of a woman is a misogynistic way of thinking because people cannot own other people. Then in the hook of the song Thicke calls the girl a Good girl, which is very condescending because it sounds like he is speaking down to her. This suggest that he is superior to her and is asserting his male dominance. In the second verse of the song Thicke sings You the hottest bitch in this place, which is a ... It is the constant judgment that women face, and it is also something Deborah Tannen noticed while sitting in an ordinary meeting one day. During that meeting, she found herself noticing only the females of the room, not the men. Tannen then realized that it was because The men s styles were unmarked (Tannen 389). While there are standard hairstyles and clothing for men, there are none for women. Everything that a woman wears is a reflection of who she is. The range of women s hair styles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks... (390). Analysis Of The Cashier s Counter At New Moon Grocery On September 23, 2015, Gary Stasiuk, approached the cashier s counter at New Moon Grocery, which is located on 295 Grammatan Avenue in Mount Vernon. Racial Disparities Of Black Students For decades there has been research conducted on the racial disproportion of black student s suspension in schools compared to white students (Skiba et al., 2000; Skiba et al., 2002; Wald and Losen, 2003; Welsh and Payne, 2010; Kinsler, 2011; Wright et al., 2014). Recently, the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (2014) study revealed that black students were three times more likely to be suspend and 3.5 times more likely than their white peers to be expelled. In the studies conducted, racial gaps in suspension rates are persistently found and still remains a significant unknown when using different analytical strategies and methodologies (Wright et al. 2014). It is important to note that no studies have yet been able to account for the different variables that contributes to the racial disparity in school discipline. A deeper investigation of past and present research literature is useful in the determining variables that may contribute to the racial gap in school suspensions and its purposed channel in the school to prison pipeline. Some earlier researcher s suggestions have been socioeconomic factors, the lower academic performance of black students, the difference in behavioral problems, or the lower academic expectations of black students from teachers to support the racial gap in suspension (Magnuson and Waldfogel, 2005; McCarthy and Hoge, 1987; Tenenbaum and Ruck, 2007). Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? Social media is becoming an important part of life online as social websites and applications generate more of a following. Most social media sites include components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is used to promote products, promote brands, connect to current customers and create new business. In modern politics, many neoconservatives are often dyed in the wool rightists; however the movement was originally conceived and shaped by a collective of former leftists and liberal Democrats who had become disillusioned with the left due to the many political struggles of the nation during the 1960s, and what they perceived as guilt ridden anti Americanism embraced by the left in the wake of the anti Vietnam War movement. (Nuechterlein 1996) In fact, Merriam Webster s dictionary defines neoconservative as a former liberal espousing political conservatism. During the 1960s, Neoconservatives were staunchly opposed to communism, the counterculture movement, particularly the political radicalism and its animus against authority, custom, and tradition. (Ball and Dagger 2013) In 1965, two prominent New York neoconservatives, columnist Irving Kristol, and sociologist Daniel Bell established The Public Interest, a quarterly public policy journal focusing on the political economy of the United States and culture. The magazine often espoused dissatisfaction with social reforms of the 1960s, which were viewed as having destroying the moral values of the country. The magazine would go on to become the leading neoconservative publication for the next 40 years. Throughout the 1970s, as many neoconservatives rose to political prominence, giving the ... CAPM=5.39%+0.69(7.50%). CAPM= 10.6% In Part 5 we can summarize our calculations for WACC. Table 1.2 shows our WACC. | Portion | Cost (K) | Contribution to WACC | Common Share | 30.57% | 10.60% | 3.24% | Debt | 69.43% | 9% | 6.25% | | | WACC | 9.49% | Our WACC is higher than Cohen s because of the portions allocated to debt and equity, and the use of market value to calculate cost of debt. Since WACC has changed the terminal value will also change. The formula for terminal value= year 10 FCF*(1+L T growth)/ (WACC L T growth). We used the L T growth in exhibit 4, which is forecast of dividend growth at 5.50%. Therefore the new terminal value is 41,584. Since terminal value has changed the discounted present value of future cash flow will also change. The new discounted PV of FCF less debt is 21,224. The new EPS is $67.50 (21,224/271.5). The establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out complicated surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex congenital cardiac lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in equipment and use of innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality and/or morbidity in patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the modern day settings. However the necessity for monitoring the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One of the key areas monitored during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features of CPB like unphysiological flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and rewarming), practices like hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences like Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae. The Decline Of Western Culture Schaeffer Critique Purpose of Text and Intended Audience The purpose of the book is to discuss the decline of Western culture by analyzing history from his perspective from Rome to his present day (the 1970 s). Schaeffer (2005) presents the idea that to redeem society Christians must live as God desires and completely live by the Bible s teachings of morals and values. The intended audience would be Christians, because the entire tone of the book comes from a Christian worldview. Although, non believers may read the book, they may not glean insights from it like believers. Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent. Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. A mental shortcut through which people classify something as belonging to a certain category to the extent that it is similar to a typical case from that category is the definition of representativeness heuristic (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini 78). The correct answer to question 30, which is a definition, is correspondent inference theory. Franklin dislikes the Rush Limbaugh radio talk show. At a party, Franklin meets Jefferson, who lavishly praises the Rush Limbaugh show. Franklin takes an instant dislike to Jefferson. This is question 46 which is located on the seventh page. For this question I answered reciprocity theory. I don t even know if there is a reciprocity theory but there is a norm of reciprocity. The norm of reciprocity requires that we repay others with the form of behavior they have given us (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 196). (Lundberg 2008).Schein is recognized as one of the most influential writers on corporate culture. Schein interprets the historical factors concerning the origins of cultures through group and leadership theory (1985: 148 150). As a result, he imposes a preordained structure on to the history of organizational cultures, namely the story of a founder. As Schultz (1995: 25) points out, rather than study the specific histories of organizations, Schein invokes psychological theories of the psychodynamic makeup of leaders (1985: 172). He uses these to paint an idealised picture of how organizations begin to create cultures through the actions of founders (Schein 1985: 221). This rests on an assumption that culture and leadership are really two sides of the same coin (Michael Stephen 1999). Modernist believes that there is a positive correlation between organizational performance and the strength of corporate culture. For them, strong organizational culture is getting people to agree. An example of modernist perspective organization would be McDonalds. Workers in a McDonald s restaurant are given a tight job description with clearly defined `movements´, which also includes guidelines what to say to customers. Thus, if the interest rate moves in an unfavorable direction, the bank has the option to use these tools in order to mitigate the impact of the change on its balance sheet. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means? Advantages: There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Swaps do not appear as assets on the balance sheet and thus they are not accounted for in the capital requirement calculations for the bank. This frees capital for the bank and at the same time brings insurance against its interest rate exposure. Swaps give flexibility and allow the bank to design the contracts in a way that fits its needs. Banks can tailor the durations, rates and other terms of the swap contracts and make it specific to the current situation of the bank. Many Object oriented languages have come in market but among them companies prefer to use open source OO languages such as Java, C++, C# .NET, and Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these languages has increased because the cost of licensing is very less or nothing. As these languages are open source, it easy to find relevant libraries and source code for the developers while developing a product. The cost of the infrastructure such as development IDE s or testing tools are also minimal or available for free.
