Captain Boning Case Study
Captain Boning failed to apply the SOF imperative of Anticipate Long Term Effects with the
choices he made. His decision to have an improper relationship with Tsung led to his manipulation,
which led to him not being able to perform his only task, and compromised the mission. His actions
undermined the American Delegation by putting his personal interest above his responsibilities. He
was not able to recognize that his actions led to the American Delegation to failure and the long
term consequences from it. Boning also failed to apply the SOF imperative of Recognize Political
Implications ; his actions had international consequences that hurt American interest in Asia. This
led to the loss of American credibility with the Asian delegations

Human Trafficking And Its Effects
In society, there are always changes. Whether they are progressive or regressive, they are still
considered changes. As Weinstein states, Because everything is always changing, it is never a
simple matter to decide among those trends and variations, which demand scientific attention and
those that can be safely ignored (Weinstein, 2010). Much like the Four Critical Episodes which
involved millions of people and several organizations over thousands of miles of territory, there is a
critical issue growing larger right underneath our noses. Human Traffickingis a very large problem
that has been evolving over several years. It is widespread and becoming more and more prevalent
in society. According to, Article 3, paragraph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have to be the change agents in our world. This is a serious obstruction in our society as well
as in many others. It could become the Fifth Critical Episode. We, as a population have the
obligation to ensure social change and social justice on these issues. So, what exactly is human
trafficking? Well, I provided the textbook definition but there are many ways in which
trafficking can be carried out. Despite common misconceptions, trafficking does not require
transportation or border crossing, and physical abuse or restraint does not always occur. The
individual s consent is also considered irrelevant (Project, 2012)!There is labor trafficking in
which individuals are acquired through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the use of labor
services (Resettlement, 2012). There are numerous forms of abusive practices that are linked to
labor trafficking. The first is bonded labor or debt bondage. It is the most widely used method of
subjecting individuals to slavery (Resettlement, 2012). It is usually well hidden and is the least
known form of labor trafficking in today s society. Victims of this form of labor trafficking
become indebted to their master . Their labor is demanded as a means of repayment for a loan or
service (Resettlement, 2012). Most never pay off their debt . Another form of labor that occurs is
forced labor. Victims are forced to work against their will, and are threatened by violence or some

Descriptive Essay On Texas Snow
The ground beneath the stiff leaves lies frozen. I hear sound of leaves crackling underneath my
thick boots which each step I take. As I wander aimlessly, the cold, brisk air invades my lungs. I
exhale slowly, I see my shaky breath float away from me. The scenery is nothing special, black
trees covered in moss, very few hills, rocks in no set trail, and above all else, endless layers of
Texas snow(not really snow, just an ice layer maybe 1/3 of an inch). I walk with a cold firearm in
my hands and a knife hung on my belt with no intention to use either. Before I was left on the far
East side of the 78 acre property, I was told to look and follow anything the resembles a deer. I was
not doing a good job, so far I had counted 23 birds and 44

Diabetes Non-Compliance Case Study
Ellen is a 16 year old girl who has an array of physical, mental, and social health problems. These
problems include type 1 diabetes (T1D), depression and weight gain/loss. The purpose of this
paper is to identify evidence based interventions that can be utilized in order to improve her well
being and health. Diabetes Non compliance According to the case study, Ellen is non compliant
with managing her diabetes and this behavior worsens when her mother tries to intervene. Borus
and Laffel conducted a study in order to find out the adherence challenges in the management of
T1D in adolescents and discovered that common barriers are peer influences, affect/depression, and
disordered eating (2010). However, in order to overcome these barriers, Borus and Laffel suggest

This can be achieved through motivational interviewing. A randomized controlled trial compared
teenagers who received 12 months of motivational interviewing visits versus a control group
receiving only supportive visits for 12 months (Channon et al., 2007). The group that received the
motivational interviewing had an average hemoglobin A1c decrease from 9.3% to 8.7%; this
improvement was maintained at 12 months and 24 months post intervention (Channon et al, 2007).
Another study performed by Stanger et al., studied the effects of motivational interviewing along
with contingency management (2013). The motivational interviewing sessions were done
individually with the adolescent and the contingency management concept was incorporated
through rewarding the adolescent with money for meeting various goals such as, regularly
monitoring their blood sugars. At the end of treatment, average hemoglobin A1c was decreased
from 11.62% to 9.11% and adherence to diabetes management was increased as represented by
how many times the adolescent checked their blood sugar in a day and week (Stanger et al.,

30 Rock
The typical episode of the critically acclaimed, indie darling, sitcom 30 Rock focuses on the
lives of the writers, producers, executives and love interests of those involved in the production
of a fictional sketch comedy television show called TGS with Tracy Jordan. 30 Rock is widely
known as a show that deals with race, gender and class issues from multiple, humorous
perspectives. Yet watching Season Five, Episode Twenty, a viewer could grow uncomfortable at
the racial generalizations. The episode is entitled Queen of Jordan and is intended to parody the
Real Housewives franchise of reality television. The episode was shot and aired as if it were a
Bravo network reality show, entirely separate from 30 Rock, although it features the... Show more

The shows are aware of the excess of their characters. In following the consumerist lifestyles, it
does not validate or idolize them, but instead provokes populist scorn on these women and their
failures (Lee and Moscowitz, p. 80). The shows critiques and demonizes women specifically,
which, in this setting, is deeply intertwined with class through their use of the Bravo wink.
Bravo winks when it showcases the irony in a scene for the viewer. Bravo executive, Andy
Cohen, explained the practice as, Trying to let the audience in on the fun of the story. We wink
at the audience when someone says, I m the healthiest person in the world and then you see them
ashing their cigarette ( For Housewives, p. AR24). The fun Cohen describes is setting up
cultural expectations of gender and class behavior only to have them violated so the audience
can laugh at the housewives shortcomings as both socialites and mothers. The Real Housewives
franchise is already self aware enough to be a show about, rich women to crass to be classy, too
superficial to be nurturing and too self obsessed to be caring (Lee and Moscowitz, p. 64). Because
of this reflexive critique, 30 Rock s criticism is of race and the medium of reality television is more
poignant the violation of the expectation of class from the elite is already ridiculed.
To critique the use of racial stereotypes to reproduce common reality television plotlines, Angie is
often portrayed as a

Frida Kahlo s Painting The Two Fridas
Frida Kahlo was an astonishing Mexican artist, who mainly painted self portraits after the fact

during her recovery time she used her time painting so her talent came out to the world. She was
married to another great Mexican artist, Diego Riverawho was consider a muralist at the time. He

Pharisees and the Sadducees). The very name Pharisee is derived from the Hebrew word to

manners of the world. In general, the Pharisees were the middle class, holding jobs like
merchants. They were very popular amongst the common people. Their power base was the
synagogue a place of worship for Jews. Although they were not great in number, they did have
tremendous influence over the people. The Pharisees were by far the most vocal and influential of

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Article Dear Fellow White People
During the 2016 Olympics, athletes have received plenty of spotlight in the media. But was every
media coverage the same for every athlete? In Valkenburg Dear Fellow White People op ed article,
the author employs juxtaposition, ethos, and rhetorical questions claiming that the idea of white
privilege is existent and people should no longer fail to acknowledge this.
Valkenburg juxtaposes similar incidents between white and black athletes to emphasize the idea
that there is white privilege being portrayed in the sports event. For example, Valkenburg mentions
the Ryan Lochte scandal, that happened during the Olympics, but he then encourages his audience
to imagine the same scandal but with an athlete of color. Soon we see the different diction he uses
to juxtapose these similar, yet different situations. Words that were used to describe Lochte were:
mellifluously , bro ,and Frat Bro version of Jason Bourne ; whereas the imaginary black athlete is
described as destructive and very disrespectful. He starts off by pointing out to the audience that ...

Valkenburg further juxtaposes in this shift as he describes another similar situation. Two athletes
not impressed with their own performance but yet the media decides to just criticize one athlete...
Why? Douglas committed the unforgivable sin... of failing to smile ; Maroney smirked her way
through... looking less than thrilled . Same story. Same sport. Different reaction. Different race.
Valkenburg use of juxtaposition, ethos, and rhetorical question exhibits the idea that white
privilege still exists till this day. His words cause for his audience to reflect and ponder to see if
they have even unconsciously had an advantage over people of color. Colored people do exist and
they have to struggle every day to prove everyone that they are just as valuable as white

Women In The Laboratory
Explore the presentation of female voices in Shakespeare s Macbeth, Duffy s Medusa and
Havisham and Robert Browning s poem (The Laboratory)
Throughout history women have been expected to obey and serve men , especially their husbands.
These ideas have been developed in society because of the powerful influence of religious doctrine.
As a consequence, females have been subject to very narrow gender definitions. However, as
presented in poems Havisham, Medusa and The Laboratory and the play Macbeth, certain women
wish not to adhere to these idealised views. In fact, all the women in these texts display some anti
female traits. In this essay, I wish to explore how Shakespeare, Duffy and Browning all give these

Quotes like hissed and spat on my scalp expose the snake like thoughts Medusa holds. The use
of sibilance also adds aggression to what s said by Medusa as saying the words make you spit.
To add, the description of Medusa s mouth being Yellow fanged and foul shows us how unclean
medusa is and the how her teeth are Fanged implement animalistic characteristics and aggression
into Medusa herself as words like fanged and foul are usually associated with animals
specifically lions and snakes meaning that she can cause a lot of harm with her mouth. The idea
of foul ness comes from the witches during act 1 scene 1 when they say fair is foul, and foul is
fair. The idea of something bad being good creates the idea that doing the wrong thing is the
right thing. So by the female protagonist being anti feminine can be seen as doing the right thing,
and that they re making a stand for women everywhere. Which is echoed by Lady Macbeth, as in
Act 1 Scene 5 it is deemed that she can also use her mouth as a weapon, this is scene in the quote
chastise with the valour of my tongue . The fact that she uses her tongue as a weapon completely
contrasts with her husband as during the opening scenes of the play we see that Macbeth s weapon
is his brandished steel this shows us how Lady Macbeth

John Bowlby Attachment Theory Research Paper
In the late 1960 s John Bowlby created the attachment theory. The attachment theory is a concept in
developmental psychology, which in personal development concerns the importance of attachment.
Specifically, it makes the claim that the ability for an individual to form an emotional and physical
attachment to another person. It gives a sense of ability and security necessary to take risks, to
branch out, to grow, and develop a personality. The attachment theoryis mainly focused on long
term relationships and bonds, particularly between a parent and child.
Bowlby defines the attachment theory as a lasting psychological connectedness between human
beings. Comfort, security, and nourishment come with the formation of attachment bonds. Bowlby
suggests that attachment comes in four phases, the pre attachment phase, the indiscriminate ... Show

recognize their primary caretaker. When babies cry it draws the attention of the parent, and the
parent will care for them. This stage progresses though about three months, and then the infant
begins the develop a sense of trust because they recognize the parent more. In the indiscriminate

I start driving, and decide to go to the Museum of Art. I absolutely adore museums, especially art
ones. One day, I would love to go to the Art Basel in Miami. 25 minutes later, I enter the Museum
of Modern Art. The building is humongous and busy. I walk into the first exhibition, and am
already amazed at the art. There are several paintings, and sculptures around the room. One
painting catches my eye. It s an extremely detailed painting of San Francisco. I think it caught
my eye, because it reminds me of the view from the hills of Twin Peaks. I head towards the next
exhibition, which is just filled with different types of paintings. I see paintings of people,
buildings, indoors, and much more. For some unknown reason, my all time favorite painting is
Van Gogh s self portrait. I m not sure why I like it so much, but I do. I also really love his
painting called Starry Night . It gives me a calm, positive vibe. I walk towards the cafГ© in the
museum to grab a snack before I leave. Before I arrive to the museum. I noticed Union Square
about 10 minutes behind, so I decide to go there. I ve also seen the Union Square in movies, but
it looks much more extensive in person. I slowly walk around to check out the busy stores, and
restaurants. The stores here definitely look classier, and high end. The Union Square is certainly
my favorite destination in San Francisco today. After a little while of walking around, I feel a

The country that we have chosen for analysis is Switzerland. The economy of Switzerland is one
of the world s most stable economies. Its policy of long term monetary security and political
stability has made Switzerland a safe haven for investors, creating an economy that is increasingly
dependent on a steady tide of foreign investment. Switzerland has achieved one of the highest per

In the year 2009, Swiss faced deflation as 2009 is the year that global economy crisis took place.
According to the data, the inflation rate of Swiss kept increasing from year 2004 to year 2008,
especially in year 2008, the inflation rate shot up from 0.7% to 2.4% because of dwindling oil
supplies.
Since America was deep in debt and facing a serious financial problem, the US government decided
to print US dollar significantly to solve its debt crisis. This led to the depreciation of US dollar
against other currencies. As US dollar was used as the global trading currency, the depreciation
caused the price of oil and energy to rise sharply. Hedge fund managers who held US dollar were

Jude And Sue In Grapes Of Wrath
People often make mistakes that they eventually come to regret. Simultaneously, there would be
someone close to that person that would want them to be in a happier state than the one they are
currently in. This is evident through the nature and predicament of the characters Jude and Sue in
the passage; Sue is unhappy because she regrets getting married, and Jude wishes that she was
happier and her misery would end. The nature and predicament of the characters are portrayed
through the literary elements that are present in the story. The nature and predicament of Jude and
Sue are revealed in the passage through the use of diction, tone, choice of detail, and symbolism.
Initially, the diction and tone used in the passage portray... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notably, the use of symbolism in the story can be found through Jude s act of putting the rabbit
out of his misery from the trap, which symbolizes Jude s wishing for Sue to be put out of her
misery. In addition, the rabbit being trapped in the gin symbolizes the agony that Sue is enduring
from being trapped in her unwanted marriage. For example, in lines 11 through 13, stating, If it
were a bad catch by the hind leg, the animal would tug during the ensuing six hours till the iron
teeth of the trap had stripped the leg bone of its flesh, when, should a weak springed instrument
enable it to escape, it would die in the field from mortification of the limb. This quote explains
the aftermath of what would be considered a bad catch of the rabbit by the trap, as it would
struggle to escape and fail to do so. As the rabbit being trapped represents Sue being hopelessly
trapped in her marriage, this symbolizes that there is no escape from her marriage, as Sue feels
she should be allowed to correct the major mistake she had made. Since Jude put the rabbit out
of its suffering, this also symbolizes the suffering that he wants to end for Sue, as she suffers
from her marriage that she would find relief from ending. Moving on, the use of symbolism
through the rabbit can be found in lines 19 through 21, which states The faint click of the trap as
dragged about by the writhing animal guided him now, and reaching the spot he struck the rabbit
on the back of the neck with the side of his palm, and it stretched itself out dead. This quote
refers to when Jude went out to kill the rabbit in order to end its suffering while it was struggling
to escape the trap in agonizing pain. Additionally, this symbolizes Jude s desire for Sue to be
relieved from her regret and agony of her undesirable marriage, as Jude feels that Sue should not

Vince Lombardi s Motivational Speech In The Green Bay Packers
The Green bay packers had the worst record before 1950 and were known as the worst team ever.
In 1966 and 1967 they won their first two super bowls and before those great wins and great
touchdowns their was a great speech. The former american football player, coach, and executive in
the National Football League, Vince lombardiwas the head coach who took the Green Bay Packers
to victory. The speech was told to his team but later it was a motivational speech for everyone. In
Vince T. Lombardi s motivational speech he evokes the diction of winning, an appeal to the
common person s abilities, and an intense tone to show that there is no room for being number two
and being number one is everyone s goal no matter what they do.
Vince Lombardi uses diction to strengthen and make clear that winning is everyone s goal no
matter what they do. He started his speech by opening with , Winning is not a sometime thing; it s
an all the time thing . He used thing in that first sentence referring to winning, and that diction
made winning more of an object and something people can take. To make clear that winning is
everyone s goal he transitioned to, You don t win once in awhile; you don t do things right once in
awhile; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing . He used
win as his diction to make sure people understand that he believes winning is everyone s goal.
Although the diction of winning is simple, it strengthens his argument that

The Right To Privacy In The 18th Century
The right to privacy is viewed as a fundamental right all over the world. However, there are many
interpretations of what privacy is, and this interpretations are in some way related to historical
events that shaped the meaning of privacy differently for every country. Countries of the European
Union consider the right to privacy a sacred right, therefore, they have established laws to protect
the respect for private and family life and the right to personal data protection. Although United
States has some sector laws to protect privacy, the constitution does not mention privacy as
fundamental right, nonetheless, the notion of privacy can be extracted from the first 10
amendments of the constitution. Consequently, regulation of the right to privacy changes

When the first 10 amendments of the constitution were written, one of the main concerns was
government intrusion. In the 1800s, citizens were concern about the confidentiality of their
correspondence. Likewise in 1890, the concern was photography and yellow journalism. With lack
of privacy laws, citizens brought several cases to the U.S courts because they felt there were
violations of privacy. As a consequent, several torts were written and recognize by most states. This
torts included the intrusion upon seclusion, public disclosure of private facts, false light or

John Muir Analysis
Image Analysis Images gain their power from the factors and decisions surrounding the site of
production, site of the image, and the site of audiencing (Rose). If an observer takes an image
and considers the effects each of these sites has had on their own reading of the image s meaning,
the viewer s resulting analysis of the image will be more a more complete evaluation. The image of
Theodore Rooseveltand John Muir at Glacier Point, Yosemite captures a time and place in such a
way that even a century after the image s creation, students of visual studies can still use it to better
understand how and where an image develops its meaning. The image Theodore Roosevelt and

Looking at images like this analytically would be an excellent first step when crafting a research
paper. The image Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir at Glacier Point, Yosemite could inspire a
visual studies student to delve into further research on the creation of national parks, the politics
surrounding their establishment or the establishment of Yosemite specifically, or even more
specific research on either Theodore Roosevelt or John Muir. Personally, this image made me more
interested in understanding the use of images to market the national parks in the early twentieth
century and how this has changed with the rise of new technologies in the subsequent decades.
Images like Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir at Glacier Point, Yosemite can also be used to
supplement a completed research paper. If one were to write a research paper about the
establishment of the National Park System, the image Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir at
Glacier Point, Yosemite would be a good accompaniment. Not only is it informative in its own
right, but it also spurs curiosity in the viewer. Is the image part of a series of photographs of
Roosevelt s travels with Muir? Did the two men like each other or were they just posing together
for posterity? And for the modern environmentalist, the essential question maybe what does this
landscape look like now? The answers to these questions could be answered within the text of the
research paper. It is suspected that the most important images for the research paper will be those
that require additional explanation for full comprehension. This marries the text and images into
one cohesive

African Americans And The American Culture Essay
The American culture is define to everyone in their own way. Everyone grows up differently in a
particular community that shares the same languages, values, rules, and customs. The American
Culture on that is consider to be a melting pot , because of all the different cultures that reside
inside of it making it so diverse. Racein this country has never been a great topic throughout
history. African Americans play a huge role into defining what our culture is as a whole, as well as
being a part of racismfor the past 250 years.
African American s role in this country has been long and has never been easy. During the early
years of the United States, African Americans endure the hardship of slavery and had to deal
with beatings, harsh working conditions and constant yelling from their racist white owners.
Even after the abolishment of slavery, African Americans still endure another one hundred years
of discrimination. A perfect way to examine a pivotal time in American History of African
Americans and the racism they went through is seen in the movie The Help . The movie is set
to take place in Mississippi during the 1950s 1960s, Skeeter is a southern society girl who
returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends lives and a Mississippi
town upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives

Examples Of Season Ending Injuries
Season ending injuries: Psychosocial aspect of rehabilitation within the athlete
In all levels of sport, involvement there is a high incidence of injuries that are bound to occur.
These injuries can range in severity, from simple cuts and bruises to season or even career ending
injuries. In many cases, the injured athlete is initially assessed and diagnosed with whatever
ailment they may have. Next, the athlete is treated for that injury whether it be surgery, physical
therapy, or both and then is given time to physically recover from that injury. This execution of
treatment is known as the biomedical model, which the majority of physicians in today s practice
use. This plan seems to be universal and effective in many cases. What many ... Show more content

I agree with this form of post injury goal setting program. I believe that if we as a consultant can
keep the athlete striving for his or her own goals they can still feed the competitive drive that
remains within the athlete. By continuing to set goals for the athlete we need to keep in mind that
these goals need to be task oriented and not ego oriented. In other words, these goals set forth by the
athlete and his physical therapist or consultant need to be concerned with the development of
competence within the rehabilitation of the athlete. Doing so will promote self efficacy through the
value and commitment of the rehabilitation. What we should try to avoid, is setting ego based
goals where the athlete is compared to previous or current athletes with the same injury. This only
lowers self confidence and increases the already high anxiety levels within the injured athlete.
In the second journal by (Rapp, 2006) the researcher conducted a test by which, Individual
responses of injured athletes varied from those who took injury in stride to those who required
psychiatric intervention. Rapp (p. 9) This seemed to significantly designate the further examination
of the importance of not simply Assuming mood disturbances nor overlooking a serious emotional
response in the injured athlete. Rapp (pg.13) Therefore, the athlete can be diagnosed in a clinical
sense with the appropriate testing to confirm or rule out the need for psychiatric help at the time

Pitching Research Paper
When a baseball is pitched, hit and flies in the air, one or more of the physical principles
formulated over 300 years ago by Sir Isaac Newton act on it. Folklore tells how the mathematician
and physicist first realized the law of gravity while observing a falling apple. Had Newton watched
a baseball game instead, he might have formulated all three laws of motion by the seventh inning
stretch.
Pitching
Newton s First Law of Motion states that every object remains at rest or in uniform motion in a
straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. Hall of Fame
pitcher Nolan Ryan recorded 5,714 strikeouts, as documented in the Baseball Almanac, using the
first law when throwing his trademark fastball. Ryan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outfielders understand this in terms of a baseball that goes up must come down. Newton s first
law applies to the combined forces of air pressure and gravity that act upon a baseball hit in the air.
Newton s second law regarding force, mass and acceleration applies to how high and far the ball is
hit.
Outfielders learn to gauge the overall distance of fly balls just before the ball reaches the height
of its arc. Exceptional outfielders have the ability to make the same calculations as the baseball
begins rising when hit. An outfielder might realize the distance between his location and projected
the arc of the ball make it impossible to catch certain balls on the fly. Outfielders use Newton s
second law to get in position and field or catch fly balls.
Base Running
Base runners make calculations based on all three of Newton s laws of motion∂, whether
attempting to reach base on a hit or steal a base. Hitters set in motion toward first base and
simultaneously calculate the speed of a ground ball or the distance of a fly ball. Based on the
second law, the hitter might elect to hold at first or continue running for extra bases. Proficient
base stealers use Newton s third law to calculate the time it takes a ball thrown by a fielder or
outfielder to reach the targeted base. Hall of Fame leadoff hitter Ricky Henderson used his speed
and the laws of motion to hit, get on base

Donald Trump And Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are two possible contenders to represent their political parties in
the upcoming presidential elections in 2016. After several GOP/Democratic debates, Trump and
Clinton have firmly addressed their immigration reform plans, which greatly contrast with one
another.
Before running for the presidency, Donald Trump was, and still is, a business magnate. His
immigration reform focuses on three fundamental principles in order to make America great again.
Firstly, Trump believes a nation without a border is simply not a nation, which is a key principle,
central to his campaign. Secondly, Trump states that A nation without laws is not a nation.
Consequently, he is determined to strictly enforce both old and new laws made during his
presidency. Lastly, Trump believes that a nation must first prioritize its citizens, in terms of
employment, wages and safety (Trump, 2015).
To enforce his first principle, Donald Trump plans to construct a wall along the southern border in
between the U.S. and Mexico, which he guarantees the Mexican government will be fully
financially responsible for. He strongly believes that the U.S. taxpayers have been directly affected
by this situation in terms of increased health care, housing and education costs etc. which are
caused by the transfer of crime and poverty that comes with illegal immigration from Mexico
(Trump, 2015). Although as a senator, Clinton voted several times to construct a barrier with the

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act Essay
Andrew Jackson was a General in The United States army, and the 7th president, throughout his
presidency he experienced many struggles with the Native Americans like wars and land
disputes. In the 1830s he wanted to end these conflicts so he put in place the Indian Removal Act
of 1830. I believe Andrew Jackson rightly and correctly removed the Indians. Even though many
Indians died along the way Jackson had a reason behind what he did and should not be to blamed
for their deaths. One of Andrew Jacksons reason behind the Indian Removal Act was so that the

This was called the Treaty of Doaksville. Though the Chickasaws went without problems, the
Seminole Indians did not. The Seminole tribe, which was originated in the Everglades area in
Florida, did not want to leave, they stayed in their home and fought for their land. In 1835, after
the Indian Removal Act was passed, the Seminoles started the Second Seminole War with the
United States army. The battle went on until 1842 and ended with only a couple of hundred of
Seminoles left. At this time the United States army said the Seminoles could stay. So even though
they lost, it was still a moral victory for the tribe. (Mahone 1998) The Cherokee Indians on the
other hand faced conflicts that were not like any of the above Indian tribes. They were the last
tribe to fight for their land which was in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherokees were basically
became their own country. They had a developed Republican Government, and their own
Constitution. They had many conflicts with America though. For example, they had the same land
claimed as Georgia causing a big problem that ended up in the Supreme Court. In this case the
judges could not decide who had claim of the disputed land. After this, Andrew Jackson persuaded
a small group of the Cherokees to sign the Treaty of New Echota. This allowed the American
Government ownership to the Cherokee territory, in return America gave them new land west of

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
The Lottery, a ritual that no one has ever thought to question, which represents any action, behavior,
or idea that is passed down from one generation to the next that s accepted and followed
unquestioningly, no matter how illogical, strange, or cruel. The oldest denizen of the town, Old
Man Warner, points out that this is his seventy seventh year participating in the ritual, called simply
the lottery. (Dubose 1) The Lottery is so much a part of the town s culture, that the townspeople
does not truly know what the traditionmeans but rejoice at the it nonetheless. That is the force that
drove the theme In Shirley Jacksons the Lottery with her use of setting, symbolism, suspense, and
characters as she exemplifies blindly following tradition with obedience can be dangerous. The
lottery is an extreme example of what can happen when traditions are not questioned or addressed
critically by new generations because of the infamous word tradition.
Jackson lets us know the time of the lottery at the outset of the story. From the description of the
men s talk of tractors and taxes (Jackson 262) and the depiction of Mr. Summers wearing a clean
white shirt and blue jeans (Jackson 262), we may assume that we are in the twentieth century,
making the story s impact more immediate. But why does the author choose June 27 as the date on
which the village holds its lottery? The summer solstice, June 21, has already passed, and the

The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce )
During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over
cremations and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was
heavily borrowed upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to
be commemorated in the fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an
Egyptian sarcophagus and added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and
The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one
such example. The Egyptians were the first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their
dead, and judging from the war themed artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely
built to commemorate the death of a great warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between
Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a
hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170 CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds,
the sarcophagus is 40 ВЅ x 91 ВЅ x 50 ВЅ inches in dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket
(The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful
attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the
work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who preferred gold, the mineral of choice for
the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi, which had a portrait of the dead on the

Pauline expresses that there is a lot of arguing with her Dad amp; Stepmother. This provides risk
for her as serious conflict between caregivers and children can put them at the risk of the
problem behaviours (Channing Bete Company 2004). The separation of a child s parents can
put him/her at risk especially if there are a lot of changes or that the child does not have a good
relationship with at least one parent (Burt 2002). It has been indicated in a study that girls in
two parent families are less likely to act out risky behaviours than those in single parent families.
(M.D. Resnick et al 1993). Children or adolescents who are well reasonably well adjusted after
divorce nearly always come from an environment where there is a firm, responsive, nurturing,
supportive adult (Henderson 2002). Pauline s recent history is shows this sort of environment has
not been there for her. A factor that protects an adolescent is having an adult in her life she can
trust and with whom she can confide. The presence of an adult Mentor in an adolescents life
helps reduce the participation in risk taking behaviours. (Beier et al 2000). Pauline reports having
a close relationship with her Aunty Sarah who lives down the road with her Nan. She is able to
confide with Aunty Sarah and feels close to her. This is a significant protective factor for Pauline.

As the movie starts, it talks about two statistics that I found extremely interesting. The first
statistic that was put up on screen said one out of every twenty one black American males will
be murdered in their lifetime. The next statistic said that most will die at the hands of another
black man. At the beginning of the movie it starts off with a little young boy named Tre that
lived with his mother. After starting a fight in school, his mom had enough of his actions and Tre
voided his contract with him mom saying he wouldn t get into any more fights. His mom sent
Tre to live with his father in South Central. Upon arriving at his house he quickly learns the ropes
of his father s way of handling things. Tre was not there for five minutes and his father had him
raking up the leaves in the front yard. Later on that night his father fills him in on the other rules of
the house. This showed me that there was a good discipline in the house. That type of discipline
helped Tre out in the long run and changed his life for the better. The theory that I think really
explains this movie is the routine activities theory. This theory talks about three requirements, the
first being a suitable target, the second is absences of capable guardians, and the final being
motivated offenders. Growing up Tre lived in a neighborhood where suitable targets

The Stages Of Socialisation
Ever thought about what life would be like if there wasn t any socialising? Have you ever
thought about the effects that socialising has on our lifestyles? Think of a world without
WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat... Good morning Mrs Lamplough and class.
Socialisation is a process in which a person goes through, where they learn about the culture,
belief and values, in order to survive in society. There are two levels of socialising, the first level
is known as primary socialisation. Parents, siblings and carers play an important role in this stage
of socialisation. Their influence involves speech, values and beliefs. Primary socialisation is
probably the most important level of socialisation as at this stage the child will learn... Show more

Texting does not allow emotions to be conveyed, although texting does allow a response to be
thought about before replying, this does not occur in face to face interactions, as the response is
needed straight away. Speaking to people via texting also does not allow you to see the affect
your words have on the other person. In this way social media has affected our lifestyles in a
huge way. Young people are unable to make proper conversations in face to face situations, or
they talk in person, just like they talk over the phone. This can affect your career, as you will not
be able to get a job, because no one will hire someone who does not speak proper English, or
knows how to hold a conversation. Social media has a positive effect on our lifestyle. For
example Google enables quick and easy searches for jobs. Requirements needed are listed, which
are easily readable and can save time, by eliminating countless interviews, which you are not
qualified enough for. Interviews can be done over platforms such as Skype, which enables people
to be interviewed by employers across the

How To Write A Persuasive Letter To Five Guys Essay
Hey Audrey, let s go to lunch, my dad said. I had to get my jacket on and save my worries for
later. I had the jitters of Christmas coming up, but I was losing hope of getting my wish from my
list this year. About a month before, I wrote a persuasive letter to my parents telling them the
reasons why I should get a cat. Their reaction was really subtle, so I didn t know what to expect.
On December 23rd, we decided to go to Five Guys for lunch. I thought we might go to the one
down in Santa Cruz because it recently had opened, so I put on some Christmas cat socks, just for
a bit of hope to stop by the animal shelter.
We ended up going over to Five Guys in Salinas, but I was still hoping. When we were at lunch,
my mom kept looking down at her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that my dad did was checked to make sure they were girls. I wouldn t mind if it was a
boy or a girl, but my mom wanted a girl cat. Now that I knew that was my cat, my sister was
holding different ones, so my parents decided that we would get two kittens. Me and my sister
were so excited because the last cat we had was four or five years ago. Right when we got into the
car and started driving, she fell asleep in my arms.
We had to stop at PetSmart to get them kitten food and a litter box. I bundled up my kitten in my
dad s jacket to keep her warm. She was fine being kept in there and she would purr too. When I
hear that sound, it makes me feel warm inside like that rainy winter day holding her for the first
time. This day was very special to me because it makes me feel full and happy to know that I got
my wish for Christmas and I care for a precious kitten, Princess, that I love. Those socks that I put
on that morning, might be lucky after

Are Democracies More Than Other Kinds Of Political...
Are democracies less likely to go to war than other kinds of political regimes?
Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president
Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and
consequently contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006).
Democracy is a system of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of
choosing the leaders of the citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their
commitments, through free and fair election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public
and civic life in democracy. Democracy depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must
be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant of the different views of other groups and
individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights, which the state cannot take away
from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights of all citizens is protected by
the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by individuals, and the rule of
law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government. Every
person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). Further, Democracy is largely supported
by liberal thinkers such as John Locke and Immanuel Kant, and liberalism is the main theory, which
supports democracy and identifies the crucial aspects of democracy.

He is a hardworking, tough but emotionally drained and withdrawn kind of person. Sometimes he
would try to fake a smile and act numb to put on a facade to everyone. His struggle to find a family
and a home for a normal childhood may have caused him to have a quiet and mild mannered
demeanour which represents repressive anger and anxieties.
General Home Atmosphere
a. As a Family Member: He is trustworthy, hardworking and always puts the needs of others first
before her own. He never had a home to call his own so much that he never felt the love and care
from a family.
b. The Father: They have a very loving and caring relationship to the point that they re dependent
and reliant to each other. It took a long time for the father to recover and cope up with the mother s
departure and had taken the dual role of a mother and father to the children. This dark and
unfortunate moment in their lives made them realize that all they have is each other.
c. The Mother: The case client, Mr. Valdez briefly stated that he never knew his mother and had
felt intense pain and anger for a while because of never having a maternal figure in his life. Time
and the lessons he learned taught him to forgive and forget. If ever God permits him to have the

How Does Tom React To Gatsby s Death
4. When Myrtle is killed and someone sees it s a yellow car that killed her, Tom gets a bit
nervous (and puts himself above his grief for a while to appease his selfishness). He grabs
Wilson and tells him that the yellow car wasn t Tom s. Later, Nick reports that Wilson
announced that he had a way of finding out who the yellow car belonged to. Tom said Wilson
was crazy enough to kill me if I hadn t told him who owned the car. and they eventually find out
it was Gatsby 5. Nick likes and admires Gatsby throughout the novel. He at one point says that
Gatsby is worth more than all of the other characters in his narrative put together. He simply feels
that Gatsby deserves a strong showing at the funeral. Nick also believes he sees something in
Gatsby that others don t. Psychologically, particularly if we recognize that Nick is an unreliable
narrator, this gives Nick a feeling of superiority. He alone recognizes Gatsby s worth. He comes off

Gatsby s father arrives to attend Gatsby s funeral. His character serves several functions. First of
all, we learn what Gatsby was like as a boy. Mr. Gatz shows the notes that the young James Gatz
wrote in his Hopalong Cassidy book, and we learn that Gatsby had big dreams very early and
was driven to achieve: He was bound to get ahead. 7. When Gatsby was alive, he would throw
huge, lavish parties. Many people were more than willing to visit Gatsby when they could enjoy
themselves (literally at his expense), but in death he is basically abandoned.Gatsby himself was
determined to be popular and to be seen; after his death, few people seem to care about
him.Although Gatsby had spent most of his life trying to put his past behind him and had even

Nelson Mandel An Effective Method Of Ending Apartheid
Nelson Mandela s contribution to the destruction of apartheid in South Africa is unparalleled. He
dedicated every action of his life to unify a sectioned South Africa that showed no signs of
reformation. One of the major characteristics of Mandela s movement in particular was the notion
of unification through nonviolence. Throughout South Africa, the apartheid system was strict and
unforgiving. The origins of apartheid lied within denying blacks any political power, or any
participation in government whatsoever. From this, the National Party established a system of
racial segregation that strictly adhered to White Africans. The apartheid system was law, and was
aggressively enforced through physical and political abuse towards black South Africans. Any
opposition to the apartheid system endangered the lives of all who participated. Naturally, black
South Africans would eventually take action against the poor treatment of their superiors. However
the most important characteristic of a revolt are the principals on which it is structured. The
Nonviolence Campaign was the most effective method of ending apartheid in South Africa.
Peaceful opposition prevented unnecessary loss of life, stayed true to the original principals and
morals of abolitionists, and prevented the movement itself from falling to hypocrisy. At an early
age, Nelson Mandela recognized the importance of nonviolent protest and what it symbolized
within a movement. It is important to understand nonviolence as

Good Morning Ladies And Gentlemen Of The Jury
Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the jury. I am Alan Zhao, attorney for the defendant.
Folks, you ve all heard the expression: There are two sides to every story. And that s true. The
plaintiff just told you one side, the side they want you to hear. But you need to hear both sides
before you can know what really happened that evening. Here s what you will find out when we
get our chance to present evidence. Once you hear all the evidence, including our cross
examinations, if it convinces you of anything, it will convince you that the wrong person was
liable and that a grave injustice has happened. The prosecution wants you to believe that the
waiter negligently served an intoxicated customer who assaulted the plaintiff. That may sound
good, but there s a problem: that s not how it happened. Members of the jury, go back to March

spotlight is focused on two young men embroiled in a fury fist fight hailing out their war cries. That
man, the defendant. That young man [жЊ‡зќЂ witness] sitting right there on the witness bench is

Grant s Defense Strategies In The Battle Of Cold Harbor
In the battle of Cold Harbor, Grant planned to attack General Robert E. Lee s army to remove
him from the Confederate capital and remove him from the confederate capital. Grant thought
that he could overpower General Lee if he could draw him out of his protective barriers and into
the open space. Grant had tried to do so before, but he had failed. Because he used a strategy of
continuously calling troops to battle, he eventually had to wait until more troops arrived. Due to
General Grant s attack ideas, General Lee s defense strategies, and Strategies of placing and
protecting troops, The Battle of Cold Harbor was won by the confederacy. The battle strategies used

The defense strategies of the confederacy led to overpower the union with even less troops. The
battle of Cold Harbor ended when Lee won the battle from strong defense strategies against the

confederate military had more protection and more supplies. In the union, 12,737 men died and
in the confederate, 4,595 men died in 12 days during the battle of Cold Harbor. Grant had sent in

Peyote And The Native American Church. Peyote Is A Narcotic
Peyote and the Native American Church Peyote is a narcotic cactus plant that has been used in
both religious and healing ceremonies of Native Americans for thousands of years. Peyote is
considered safe by a majority of Native Americans, but also vastly important to their religious
heritage. Not only is it considered historically important but the use of peyote is central to many
beliefs of modern Pan Indianism. Interestingly, the more popular peyote became among Native
American tribes, the more of a concern it became to the US Government and this strange
correlation of tribe use vs. government concern forces us to ask why peyote has become such a
central point of conflict. This essay will attempt to answer that question and show why the... Show

Quanah Parker, the credited founder of the Native American Church, adopted the peyote religion
after he suffered a near death experience fighting federal troops. He claims that Jesus Christ came
to him and told him that he needed to take the peyote religion to the Indian Peoples to atone for
his many killings and misdeeds (Toquerville). The establishment of the Native American Church
allowed the use of peyote for religious uses and for many it provided a powerful alternative to
both ancient tribal religions and missionary controlled versions of Christianity which caused it
spread like wildfire across tribes (Fikes). Faced with the suppression of many traditional rituals
from the US Government, many Native Americans took solace in peyote ceremonies because they
took place quietly and they were protected under the law (Toquerville). It was not just Native
Americans that took part in these ceremonies. In 1956, Saskatoon Star Phoenix featured an article
in which white men experienced peyote rites and one of the observers remarked that peyote
ceremonies offer a tremendous religious experience that intensify the awareness of God. He also
said that they provide an enormous cohesive force for the American Indian when they have had
nothing to unify behind in a long time (Dyck). Just like all other Native

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Creativity
Creativity can sometimes be the result of torment. Ludwig van Beethoven was a famous classical
composer with a hard life. Throughout his entire life, he suffered from various diseases, hearing
difficulties, mental disorders and social problems, (Russell and Nibley 25 ). Yet despite all of
these terrible ailments, he was able to compose music that is considered some of the best ever
composed, and that is still appreciated today.
Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany on December 17, 1770 (F.C.C). His father, Johann, was
an alcoholic who used to bully and beat Ludwig and drag him crying out of bed to practice
piano. His mother, Maria, in contrast, was kind and intelligent (Russell and Nibley 11 12). He
was a natural musician and performed when he was seven on piano and at eight had piano,
violin, and viola lessons. When he was eleven, he was deputy court organist (Russell and Nibley
12). He showed talent at an early age so when he became deaf, it was a tragic loss for him. Even
though Beethoven became deaf, he still managed to become well skilled at composing, a job which
requires hearing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Testing on Beethoven s hair indicated tremendous amounts of mercury in his system. Mercury
could have been prescribed as a remedy for his various illness when he was a child. This
poisoning could explain his early deafness and his odd behavior (Russel and Nibley 1,7).
Beethoven s middle years were spent supporting his family because his father and mother had
died when he was young (Russell and Nibley 14). He was influenced by many people who helped
and encouraged him during these years. Beethoven supposedly got his musical traits from his
grandfather (Russell and Nibley 11). Then as a young organist, Christian Gotlob Neefe, taught
Beethoven and was a good mentor and friend. Later, in 1792, Beethoven left Bonn to live in
Vienna, where Josef Haydn served to promote Beethoven to the Viennese cultural community

African American Studies Research Paper
African American Studies is an interdisciplinary subject that acts as a dialogue between other fields
of research to build a collective understanding of the African experience as well as document the
African initiative.
Among one of the principles of Afrocentricity, a driving concept behind AfricanAmerican Studies,
is the portrayal of Africans not just as victims, but as agents of their own history, which is
reflected in Celie s decision to take control of her life rather than suffer in silence. Since she was
fourteen, Celie had been physically and sexually abused by her father, and later was forced to
suffer the same treatment upon marrying her husband dubbed as Mr. _____. When urged by her
daughter in law, Sofia, to fight back against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After growing seriously ill, Shug is cared for by Celie that leads to their ensuing friendship.
When Shug regains her strength and prepares to leave, Celie confesses being abused by her
husband to which Shug responds by put[ting] her arms around [her] and stay[ing] until Albert
won t even think about beating [her] (75). This scene is particularly important to Celie as Shug
shows to not only have heard Celie s plea, but also takes action to help her deal with the abuse
and end it. Furthermore, Shug is an individual Celie has strongly admired for years and to be
acknowledged by one of the most important figures in her life is an important piece of evidence
to Celie that she is an individual of value. This small understanding of self worth then grows as
Shug continues to nurture and care for Celie throughout the novel, causing Celie to finally break
free from her husband with her renewed self esteem. Celie s strength, while her own, would not
have manifested on its own if Shug had not helped her develop her self confidence. Celie s self
realization is tied to Shug s constant support and is not an isolated event similar to how African
American Studies is not an isolated discipline. It is deeply connected to other branches of
knowledge for the sake of expanding, enriching, and generally improving the understanding of
humanity as whole from an Afrocentric perspective. While African American Studies is focused on
discussing the African experience from the beliefs and mindsets of African people, it is a discipline
that also seeks to acquire a larger understanding of humanity as a whole through the inclusion of all
cultures. Without the supporting knowledge and perspectives provided by

Anton Chekhov Contributions
Why, doctor what an insightful play you ve written. I bet your exploration of human situations will
last through the ages. This is not something people would normally say to their family physician.
That is because most physicians are trained to be logical concise thinkers who do not have room for
any unnecessary thoughts, which leaves them without much room for artistic expression. Now, if
Anton Chekhovwas your doctor then there could be a possibility for some discussion about The
Cherry Orchard, The Sea Gull, or The Three Sisters while he was giving you your yearly physical.
That s because Chekhov was one of the most influential playwrights of his time and our time as
well. Chekhov was many things such as a physician, a master of the short story, and he had a small
but profound career in writing plays. Anton Chekhov lived an interesting life, which influenced his
future writings and writing style. To understand Chekhov his early life must be explored, his
exceptionally original writing style must be understood, and then with this knowledge his
contribution towards theatre can be examined. To understand the man s writing style and his
theatrical contributions, we must have an understanding of his background.
Anton Chekhov has an interesting history and grew up in a fascinating time. He was born in
1870 in the Russian town of Taganrog. Chekhov s grandfather was a serf that had worked hard
and was able to buy his own freedom and that of his family (Rocamora pg

An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts
According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for
letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his
partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then
maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his
mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last
time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he
moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a
melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my
words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t
seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates
the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. When he tried to tell them about
his problems he found it strange that he could never explain to them. In the end that person left
him. When he tried to get them back, he couldn t move and watched as they left... Show more

I immediately related to the singer and felt the empty and lonely emotions he portrayed in his
lyrics. The many ifs he uses in the song is something I ask myself all the time. What would have
happened if I had done somethings I had declined? What if I m not good enough or not strong
enough. What if I had left a long time ago. The many ifs that I ask myself are all regrets and
words of self loathing. Astronauts has helped me empty my thoughts as the song had sang for
me. The lyrics were words I had kept hidden for years. I had no outlet to empty out these feelings
and this song had done it for me. The song had touched my heart and I will hold it dear to me

  • 3. Human Trafficking And Its Effects In society, there are always changes. Whether they are progressive or regressive, they are still considered changes. As Weinstein states, Because everything is always changing, it is never a simple matter to decide among those trends and variations, which demand scientific attention and those that can be safely ignored (Weinstein, 2010). Much like the Four Critical Episodes which involved millions of people and several organizations over thousands of miles of territory, there is a critical issue growing larger right underneath our noses. Human Traffickingis a very large problem that has been evolving over several years. It is widespread and becoming more and more prevalent in society. According to, Article 3, paragraph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have to be the change agents in our world. This is a serious obstruction in our society as well as in many others. It could become the Fifth Critical Episode. We, as a population have the obligation to ensure social change and social justice on these issues. So, what exactly is human trafficking? Well, I provided the textbook definition but there are many ways in which trafficking can be carried out. Despite common misconceptions, trafficking does not require transportation or border crossing, and physical abuse or restraint does not always occur. The individual s consent is also considered irrelevant (Project, 2012)!There is labor trafficking in which individuals are acquired through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the use of labor services (Resettlement, 2012). There are numerous forms of abusive practices that are linked to labor trafficking. The first is bonded labor or debt bondage. It is the most widely used method of subjecting individuals to slavery (Resettlement, 2012). It is usually well hidden and is the least known form of labor trafficking in today s society. Victims of this form of labor trafficking become indebted to their master . Their labor is demanded as a means of repayment for a loan or service (Resettlement, 2012). Most never pay off their debt . Another form of labor that occurs is forced labor. Victims are forced to work against their will, and are threatened by violence or some other form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Seeing a little how his name bothers Kenichi it did pique his interest. At the same time, he didn t want to upset Kenichi about something as trivial as his name. • 5. Descriptive Essay On Texas Snow The ground beneath the stiff leaves lies frozen. I hear sound of leaves crackling underneath my thick boots which each step I take. As I wander aimlessly, the cold, brisk air invades my lungs. I exhale slowly, I see my shaky breath float away from me. The scenery is nothing special, black trees covered in moss, very few hills, rocks in no set trail, and above all else, endless layers of Texas snow(not really snow, just an ice layer maybe 1/3 of an inch). I walk with a cold firearm in my hands and a knife hung on my belt with no intention to use either. Before I was left on the far East side of the 78 acre property, I was told to look and follow anything the resembles a deer. I was not doing a good job, so far I had counted 23 birds and 44 ... Another study performed by Stanger et al., studied the effects of motivational interviewing along with contingency management (2013). The motivational interviewing sessions were done individually with the adolescent and the contingency management concept was incorporated through rewarding the adolescent with money for meeting various goals such as, regularly monitoring their blood sugars. • 7. 30 Rock The typical episode of the critically acclaimed, indie darling, sitcom 30 Rock focuses on the lives of the writers, producers, executives and love interests of those involved in the production of a fictional sketch comedy television show called TGS with Tracy Jordan. 30 Rock is widely known as a show that deals with race, gender and class issues from multiple, humorous perspectives. Yet watching Season Five, Episode Twenty, a viewer could grow uncomfortable at the racial generalizations. The shows are aware of the excess of their characters. In following the consumerist lifestyles, it does not validate or idolize them, but instead provokes populist scorn on these women and their failures (Lee and Moscowitz, p. 80). The shows critiques and demonizes women specifically, which, in this setting, is deeply intertwined with class through their use of the Bravo wink. Bravo winks when it showcases the irony in a scene for the viewer. Bravo executive, Andy Cohen, explained the practice as, Trying to let the audience in on the fun of the story. We wink at the audience when someone says, I m the healthiest person in the world and then you see them ashing their cigarette ( For Housewives, p. AR24). The fun Cohen describes is setting up cultural expectations of gender and class behavior only to have them violated so the audience can laugh at the housewives shortcomings as both socialites and mothers. The Real Housewives franchise is already self aware enough to be a show about, rich women to crass to be classy, too superficial to be nurturing and too self obsessed to be caring (Lee and Moscowitz, p. 64). Because of this reflexive critique, 30 Rock s criticism is of race and the medium of reality television is more poignant the violation of the expectation of class from the elite is already ridiculed. But was every media coverage the same for every athlete? In Valkenburg Dear Fellow White People op ed article, the author employs juxtaposition, ethos, and rhetorical questions claiming that the idea of white privilege is existent and people should no longer fail to acknowledge this. Valkenburg juxtaposes similar incidents between white and black athletes to emphasize the idea that there is white privilege being portrayed in the sports event. For example, Valkenburg mentions the Ryan Lochte scandal, that happened during the Olympics, but he then encourages his audience to imagine the same scandal but with an athlete of color. Soon we see the different diction he uses to juxtapose these similar, yet different situations. Words that were used to describe Lochte were: mellifluously , bro ,and Frat Bro version of Jason Bourne ; whereas the imaginary black athlete is described as destructive and very disrespectful. Women In The Laboratory Explore the presentation of female voices in Shakespeare s Macbeth, Duffy s Medusa and Havisham and Robert Browning s poem (The Laboratory) Throughout history women have been expected to obey and serve men , especially their husbands. For example, in lines 11 through 13, stating, If it were a bad catch by the hind leg, the animal would tug during the ensuing six hours till the iron teeth of the trap had stripped the leg bone of its flesh, when, should a weak springed instrument enable it to escape, it would die in the field from mortification of the limb. In other words, these goals set forth by the athlete and his physical therapist or consultant need to be concerned with the development of competence within the rehabilitation of the athlete. In 1835, after the Indian Removal Act was passed, the Seminoles started the Second Seminole War with the United States army. The battle went on until 1842 and ended with only a couple of hundred of Seminoles left. At this time the United States army said the Seminoles could stay. So even though they lost, it was still a moral victory for the tribe. (Mahone 1998) The Cherokee Indians on the other hand faced conflicts that were not like any of the above Indian tribes. They were the last tribe to fight for their land which was in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherokees were basically became their own country. They had a developed Republican Government, and their own Constitution. They had many conflicts with America though. For example, they had the same land claimed as Georgia causing a big problem that ended up in the Supreme Court. In this case the judges could not decide who had claim of the disputed land. After this, Andrew Jackson persuaded a small group of the Cherokees to sign the Treaty of New Echota. This allowed the American Government ownership to the Cherokee territory, in return America gave them new land west of the Mississippi River ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Lottery by Shirley Jackson The Lottery, a ritual that no one has ever thought to question, which represents any action, behavior, or idea that is passed down from one generation to the next that s accepted and followed unquestioningly, no matter how illogical, strange, or cruel. The oldest denizen of the town, Old Man Warner, points out that this is his seventy seventh year participating in the ritual, called simply the lottery. (Dubose 1) The Lottery is so much a part of the town s culture, that the townspeople does not truly know what the traditionmeans but rejoice at the it nonetheless. That is the force that drove the theme In Shirley Jacksons the Lottery with her use of setting, symbolism, suspense, and characters as she exemplifies blindly following tradition with obedience can be dangerous. The lottery is an extreme example of what can happen when traditions are not questioned or addressed critically by new generations because of the infamous word tradition. Jackson lets us know the time of the lottery at the outset of the story. From the description of the men s talk of tractors and taxes (Jackson 262) and the depiction of Mr. Summers wearing a clean white shirt and blue jeans (Jackson 262), we may assume that we are in the twentieth century, making the story s impact more immediate. But why does the author choose June 27 as the date on which the village holds its lottery? The summer solstice, June 21, has already passed, and the Fourth of July is yet to come. • 33. The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce ) During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over cremations and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was heavily borrowed upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to be commemorated in the fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an Egyptian sarcophagus and added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one such example. The Egyptians were the first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their dead, and judging from the war themed artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely built to commemorate the death of a great warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170 CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds, the sarcophagus is 40 ВЅ x 91 ВЅ x 50 ВЅ inches in dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket (The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who preferred gold, the mineral of choice for the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi, which had a portrait of the dead on the lid, the lid of the ... It has been indicated in a study that girls in two parent families are less likely to act out risky behaviours than those in single parent families. (M.D. Resnick et al 1993). Children or adolescents who are well reasonably well adjusted after divorce nearly always come from an environment where there is a firm, responsive, nurturing, supportive adult (Henderson 2002). Pauline s recent history is shows this sort of environment has not been there for her. A factor that protects an adolescent is having an adult in her life she can trust and with whom she can confide. As the movie starts, it talks about two statistics that I found extremely interesting. The first statistic that was put up on screen said one out of every twenty one black American males will be murdered in their lifetime. The next statistic said that most will die at the hands of another black man. At the beginning of the movie it starts off with a little young boy named Tre that lived with his mother. After starting a fight in school, his mom had enough of his actions and Tre voided his contract with him mom saying he wouldn t get into any more fights. His mom sent Tre to live with his father in South Central. Upon arriving at his house he quickly learns the ropes of his father s way of handling things. Tre was not there for five minutes and his father had him raking up the leaves in the front yard. Later on that night his father fills him in on the other rules of the house. This showed me that there was a good discipline in the house. That type of discipline helped Tre out in the long run and changed his life for the better. The theory that I think really explains this movie is the routine activities theory. This theory talks about three requirements, the first being a suitable target, the second is absences of capable guardians, and the final being motivated offenders. • 41. Are Democracies More Than Other Kinds Of Political... Are democracies less likely to go to war than other kinds of political regimes? Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and consequently contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006). Democracy is a system of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of choosing the leaders of the citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their commitments, through free and fair election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public and civic life in democracy. Democracy depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant of the different views of other groups and individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights, which the state cannot take away from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights of all citizens is protected by the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by individuals, and the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government. Every person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). Further, Democracy is largely supported by liberal thinkers such as John Locke and Immanuel Kant, and liberalism is the main theory, which supports democracy and identifies the crucial aspects of democracy. He dedicated every action of his life to unify a sectioned South Africa that showed no signs of reformation. One of the major characteristics of Mandela s movement in particular was the notion of unification through nonviolence. Throughout South Africa, the apartheid system was strict and unforgiving. The origins of apartheid lied within denying blacks any political power, or any participation in government whatsoever. From this, the National Party established a system of racial segregation that strictly adhered to White Africans. The apartheid system was law, and was aggressively enforced through physical and political abuse towards black South Africans. Any opposition to the apartheid system endangered the lives of all who participated. Naturally, black South Africans would eventually take action against the poor treatment of their superiors. However the most important characteristic of a revolt are the principals on which it is structured. The Nonviolence Campaign was the most effective method of ending apartheid in South Africa. Peaceful opposition prevented unnecessary loss of life, stayed true to the original principals and morals of abolitionists, and prevented the movement itself from falling to hypocrisy. He claims that Jesus Christ came to him and told him that he needed to take the peyote religion to the Indian Peoples to atone for his many killings and misdeeds (Toquerville). The establishment of the Native American Church allowed the use of peyote for religious uses and for many it provided a powerful alternative to both ancient tribal religions and missionary controlled versions of Christianity which caused it spread like wildfire across tribes (Fikes). Faced with the suppression of many traditional rituals from the US Government, many Native Americans took solace in peyote ceremonies because they took place quietly and they were protected under the law (Toquerville). It was not just Native Americans that took part in these ceremonies. In 1956, Saskatoon Star Phoenix featured an article in which white men experienced peyote rites and one of the observers remarked that peyote ceremonies offer a tremendous religious experience that intensify the awareness of God. He also said that they provide an enormous cohesive force for the American Indian when they have had nothing to unify behind in a long time (Dyck). Just like all other Native ... • 51. Ludwig Van Beethoven s Creativity Creativity can sometimes be the result of torment. Ludwig van Beethoven was a famous classical composer with a hard life. Throughout his entire life, he suffered from various diseases, hearing difficulties, mental disorders and social problems, (Russell and Nibley 25 ). Yet despite all of these terrible ailments, he was able to compose music that is considered some of the best ever composed, and that is still appreciated today. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany on December 17, 1770 (F.C.C). His father, Johann, was an alcoholic who used to bully and beat Ludwig and drag him crying out of bed to practice piano. His mother, Maria, in contrast, was kind and intelligent (Russell and Nibley 11 12). He was a natural musician and performed when he was seven on piano and at eight had piano, violin, and viola lessons. When he was eleven, he was deputy court organist (Russell and Nibley 12). He showed talent at an early age so when he became deaf, it was a tragic loss for him. Even though Beethoven became deaf, he still managed to become well skilled at composing, a job which requires hearing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Testing on Beethoven s hair indicated tremendous amounts of mercury in his system. Mercury could have been prescribed as a remedy for his various illness when he was a child. This poisoning could explain his early deafness and his odd behavior (Russel and Nibley 1,7). Beethoven s middle years were spent supporting his family because his father and mother had died when he was young (Russell and Nibley 14). He was influenced by many people who helped and encouraged him during these years. Beethoven supposedly got his musical traits from his grandfather (Russell and Nibley 11). Then as a young organist, Christian Gotlob Neefe, taught Beethoven and was a good mentor and friend. Later, in 1792, Beethoven left Bonn to live in Vienna, where Josef Haydn served to promote Beethoven to the Viennese cultural community (Russel and Nibley ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. African American Studies Research Paper African American Studies is an interdisciplinary subject that acts as a dialogue between other fields of research to build a collective understanding of the African experience as well as document the African initiative. Among one of the principles of Afrocentricity, a driving concept behind AfricanAmerican Studies, is the portrayal of Africans not just as victims, but as agents of their own history, which is reflected in Celie s decision to take control of her life rather than suffer in silence. Since she was fourteen, Celie had been physically and sexually abused by her father, and later was forced to suffer the same treatment upon marrying her husband dubbed as Mr. _____. When urged by her daughter in law, Sofia, to fight back against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After growing seriously ill, Shug is cared for by Celie that leads to their ensuing friendship. When Shug regains her strength and prepares to leave, Celie confesses being abused by her husband to which Shug responds by put[ting] her arms around [her] and stay[ing] until Albert won t even think about beating [her] (75). This scene is particularly important to Celie as Shug shows to not only have heard Celie s plea, but also takes action to help her deal with the abuse and end it. Furthermore, Shug is an individual Celie has strongly admired for years and to be acknowledged by one of the most important figures in her life is an important piece of evidence to Celie that she is an individual of value. This small understanding of self worth then grows as Shug continues to nurture and care for Celie throughout the novel, causing Celie to finally break free from her husband with her renewed self esteem. Celie s strength, while her own, would not have manifested on its own if Shug had not helped her develop her self confidence. Celie s self realization is tied to Shug s constant support and is not an isolated event similar to how African American Studies is not an isolated discipline. It is deeply connected to other branches of knowledge for the sake of expanding, enriching, and generally improving the understanding of humanity as whole from an Afrocentric perspective. While African American Studies is focused on discussing the African experience from the beliefs and mindsets of African people, it is a discipline that also seeks to acquire a larger understanding of humanity as a whole through the inclusion of all cultures. Without the supporting knowledge and perspectives provided by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Anton Chekhov Contributions Why, doctor what an insightful play you ve written. I bet your exploration of human situations will last through the ages. This is not something people would normally say to their family physician. • 54. An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. When he tried to tell them about his problems he found it strange that he could never explain to them. In the end that person left him. When he tried to get them back, he couldn t move and watched as they left... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I immediately related to the singer and felt the empty and lonely emotions he portrayed in his lyrics. The many ifs he uses in the song is something I ask myself all the time. What would have happened if I had done somethings I had declined? What if I m not good enough or not strong enough. What if I had left a long time ago. The many ifs that I ask myself are all regrets and words of self loathing. Astronauts has helped me empty my thoughts as the song had sang for me. The lyrics were words I had kept hidden for years. I had no outlet to empty out these feelings and this song had done it for me. The song had touched my heart and I will hold it dear to me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
