Analysis Of Pygmalion And Stoppard s Arcadia
Although all education is interrelated and can improve one s quality of life, it is up to him or her to
utilize the knowledge to improve their life in both Shaw s Pygmalion and Stoppard s Arcadia, but
differs in the motive seeking education, where one is to improve one s social class and life and another
is due to curiosity and fascination, respectively. In both texts, knowledge and education advanced the
character s life quality to a certain limit. In Pygmalion, Eliza, a girl with no manners who seemingly
lives on the streets seeks education in the means of language and manners in order to sell flowers at a
flower shop. In Arcadia, Thomasina, on the other hand, seeks education in the pursuit of curiosity.
Both texts depict knowledge as a passageway for a better life but then show that it is how one utilizes
the education and knowledge that determines one s quality and satisfaction with life.
Education in Pygmalion is depicted as a stepping stone into a better life, but it is how one puts one s
knowledge to use that determines their satisfaction with life. The main message of Pygmalion is
appearances can be deceiving. Higgins, a high middle class man who studies phonetics the science of
speech with a proper education, conveys a persona of being cold, stern, proper, conventional, and
intellectual. Eliza, on the other hand, grew up on the streets, which resulted in her hideous accent. She

Effects Of Calcium Carbonate
Calcium Carbonate (Tums), helps restore calcium levels in the blood, prevents osteoporosis and bone
demineralization and helps with neuromuscular function. Can also be taken for dyspepsia. It is taken
orally and the drug is distributed widely and excreted in the feces. Adverse effects include,
hypercalcemia, drowsiness, lethargy, nausea and vomiting, decreased appetite, increased thirst and
urination and dysrhythmias. It is not recommended for patients with V fib, metastatic bone disease,
hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia. Caution in patients with renal insufficiency and history of
renal calculi (Adams and Urban, 2016, p. 1233). Drug interactions affecting the patient include,

The patient is taking Lasix for its ability to increase urinary output in renal patients with reduced renal
blood flow and for control of hypertension and for its ability decrease the amount of fluid in
intravascular volume, reduce cardiac preload and help treat his acute pulmonary edema (Mayo Clinic,
2017). The mechanism of action for Lasix is, it inhibits reabsorption of sodium, potassium and
chloride cotransporters in the loop of Henle and distal tubules. Lasix causes rapid diuresis, decreasing
vascular volume, increased urinary excretion and decreased cardiac output and blood pressure (Adams
Urban, 2016). The routes that Lasix is supplied are, PO, IV and IM. It is distributed in body tissues. It
is metabolized in incremental amounts by the liver and excreted by the kidneys (Adams Urban, 2016).
The patient is taking 120mg PO/day. The recommended dose is 20 80 mg in one or multiple doses
with a maximum of 600mg/day (Adams Urban, 2016). The patient s dose exceeds the recommended
once daily dose and recommend decreasing the dose or giving in divided doses 6 8 hours apart. Once
the patient s acute pulmonary edema is controlled the dosage should be reduced to prevent
hypokalemia and electrolyte imbalances associated with loop diuretics and renal failure.
Contraindications include, patients with allergies to Sulfonamide antibiotics should not take Lasix.
Concurrent use with NSAIDS decrease the effectiveness.

Smoke Bomb In The Culling
Smoke bomb is a projectile in The Culling. It breaks on effect, making a large cloud of smoke and
applying a temporary blindness to opponents. It is particularly powerful for fleeing and baiting
enemies into traps. It can also be very effective when paired with blades and Brutus by blinding an
opponent and backstabbing him. It is make with only a rock at a gas tank, and can be used to create
the gas grenade. Smoke bomb will be auto dropped if player have Angry Octopus perk, even if he
does not have smoke bomb in inventory. (Smoke Bomb, n.d.)
The first bomb were invented in China in the 13th century. The Chinese initially started using
gunpowder in hand held grenades and created smoke bombs. One of these bombs, the thunderbolt
ball, had black powder on the outside that detonated a bamboo center loaded with iron pieces. During
the Northern Song Dynasty (960 1126), Zeng Gongliang, a designing master, recorded three formulas

most common method used is potassium nitrate (oxidizer), sugar (fuel) and baking soda (reducing
reagent). The potassium nitrate and sugar react in an explosive reaction when lit. This reaction is
moderated by the baking soda so that the smoke bomb creates smoke for a longer period of time rather
than just burning out. During the combustion of the smoke bomb, the sugar will be oxidized to carbon
dioxide and water. The nitrogen in the potassium nitrate will be reduced to nitrogen gas. The
potassium will end up as potassium carbonate (the carbon coming from the CO2 from the sugar).

The Environment Of A Soil Ecosystem
A soil ecosystem is composed of both living and non living matter with a diversity of interactions (The
Environmental Literacy Council, N.d.). This is a place where energy and matter are transformed and
transported. Analyses that can be used to assess the functioning of land ecosystems is abiotic
indicators, biological indicators, and atmospheric indicators. Abiotic indicators can include pH,
moisture, and temperature. Soil temperature and moisture are important environmental factors that
affect the conservation and physiology of earthworms (M.L. Presley et al, 1996). Biological indicators
can include earthworms, plants, and leaf litter. Atmospheric indicators include carbon dioxide
emissions. Interactions among these three indicators can also help to assess if the ecosystem is
functioning. It is hypothesized that a functioning ecosystem is related to many types of interactions,
such as earthworms eating leaf litter and leaf litter falling from the plants. It is predicted that IU has
good soil quality based on the fact is is near Jordan River, and there is a diversity of plant life
growing. What is the ecosystem s quality based on the interactions between leaf litter, soil, and
worms? The ecosystem is claimed to be functioning based on the biomass of the earthworms and leaf
litter and the pH, moisture, and temperature of the soil.

Introduction. In Term Three Of The Practical Nursing Program
Introduction In term three of the practical nursing program we started our first placement in a hospital
setting. During the second week of placement we went out onto our assignment floors and got to
shadow a nurse. That morning I went to see all of the patients that my nurse had for the day to
introduce myself and tell them if they need anything to let me know. One of the patients that morning
was crying, so I had went up to her asked what was wrong, her response was I have been sitting in my
own stool since 6am, I rang my call bell and no one has came . This type of situation was a moral
dilemma, the patient is unable to change her own brief and the nurse was not nearby to do so. As a
student nurse I was unable to do a bed bath and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A brief is suppose to be changed at least 5 8 times a day or immediately after it s been soiled. After a
brief change it is important to clean the area properly to prevent any infections. A urinary tract
infection can occur if a patient stays in their soiled brief for an extended amount of time or if they are
not cleansed properly. Another consequence with having a soiled brief is that you could be at risk for
skin breakdown. As stated Too much moisture over hydrates the skin, making it weak and more
sensitive to friction, shear and breakdown (think about being in the tub or pool for a long time).
Primary sources of excess skin moisture include sweating, bowel and bladder accidents, and drainage
from wounds (Skin Health: Prevention and Treatment of Skin Breakdown,2011). Therefore, if a
healthcare provider does not attend to a soiled brief immediately, risk for infection and skin
breakdown will occur.
My personal/ professional values and beliefs In this situation I felt that it conflicted with me on a
personal and professional level, being a student nurse and also a women. When I first went into the
room and seen a patient crying, I wanted to help but with my qualifications as a student I was not able
to. As a women not being able to change yourself or do anything on your own, takes away your pride
and dignity, making you feel useless and lowers your self esteem. If I had a family member in the
hospital I would hope that the nurses are treating them

What Is The Diffusion Synchronization Protocol
Mini Sync It s an extension of Tiny Sync it finds the optimal solution with increas ing complexity. The
idea is to prevent the algorithm being used by some data points has come to give strict limits and only
discards a data point if it is certain that this point will be useless.it has larger computational and
storage costs, but increased precision. F. Time Diffusion Synchronization Protocol This protocol
proposed by Weilian Su and Ian F. Akyildiz [11] in 2005. In TDP, nodes agree on network wide
equilibrium time and maintain clocks within a small bounded deviation from this time and nodes
structure themselves into tree like configuration with two roles, master nodes and diffused leader

comparison to similar algorithms is improved but also we were able to reduce the consumption of
energy in each node by decreasing the number of exchanged messages. By using linear regression
SLTP can tolerate the changes in drift under various situations. SLTP is the best fit for the following
situations: When the lifetime of the network is very important, when we need a large network to
monitor a wide area, or when our application requires medium time accuracy. SLTP works in two
phases phase one concern the configuration for static and dynamic network in which determines the
node group leader and members, phase two allows timing synchronization network after selecting the
group leader and then the network initiates the synchronization. If two nodes in the same cluster,
synchronization is done as following: Figure 8. CH1 receives the observation time of the object from

Egg Baby Activity Research Paper
The egg baby activity was an activity I particularly enjoyed doing in my college career. I am actually
familiar with the care taking process for my egg, since I was assigned this type of project before while
I was in high school; the only difference was that I had a partner for this experience. So to explain the
process for caring for my baby was fairly simple, my partner, Lily, had a schedule that was the
opposite of mine and we would switch off caring for the baby evenly. She had the baby one day and I
would have him the next. Having to switch off between days primarily reminded me of how actual
couples would have to raise children due to custody cases, in which some are not as lenient as
switching off between parents like it was for this project. So the challenging part of this activity ...

I was extremely concerned that she could potentially drop, or break the egg during the days she had
the egg. I do not believe I was highly concerned about that, but I was more concerned that she could
have dropped the egg and decided to replace it. The reason why that bothered me was because the lack
of honesty. I believe that parents should be truthful throughout the entire process of raising a child,
specifically when a parent believes they made a mistake in the upbringing process and do not want to
inform the other parent that they were wrong. A good example of this could be discipline, one parent
may not fully agree with spanking, while the other might, and with the child in the custody of the
parent, who believes in spanking, may spank the child. Then when the parent who does not believe in
spankings receives the child finds out that the child was disciplined in that manner could result in

Essay On Dominic s Life
Dominic s eyes start to open slowly from the glare of the sun coming from an opening in the curtains,
showing small particles of dust lingering around like snowflakes. He blinks and adjusts his eyes to his
digital alarm clock reading 8:00 AM. He heaves himself out of bed, rubbing his heavy and lumpish
eyes and walks lazily towards the bathroom like a baby taking its first steps. As he turns the shower
tap on, the cold and icy water splashes onto his face, making his body shiver as well as goose bumps
growing out of his skin. He stares down onto his overweight and spherical stomach, as the water from
the showerhead tumbles onto his shoulders, down to his stomach. His New Year s Resolution hasn t

would visit him daily in the hospital to check how he s doing but would break down in tears from the
critical condition his friend is in. Dominic locks his apartment and makes his way downstairs. He
opens the door leading outside the apartment, and a cool but nice breeze blows against his face,
making the leaves on the sidewalk fly in his direction. He walks towards the road to a café, where he
would have a small breakfast every morning before opening his store. He enters the café and waits in
line, admiring the way one of the workers does her job. Her name was Elizabeth. She would see
Dominic almost every morning, asking for his usual order: black tea three sugars and two choc chip
cookies. He would give a little smile, and she would return an innocent and cute looking smile back.
He hesitated to try to say his order, O One black tea... With three sugars and two choc chip cookies ,
she said finishing him. She turned and started to prepare his tea. She has long brown hair tied in a
ponytail, black eyes, and a pretty rose coloured face. For a while now, Elizabeth would put aside
Dominic s cookies, as she was sure as the sun shines, that he would be asking for them, and felt that it
is wrong to sell them to a different customer. Dominic opened his bookstore and gazed upon the
thousands of books placed on shelves, on display and near his counter. Posters were hung up

Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
Jaanavi Selvaraj
Hitchens Pd 8
Silent Spring
Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings
them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment
for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this
ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers
continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet
due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment,
wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of
pesticide application.
In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the
pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film,
Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To
prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation.
Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with
the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects
them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers
of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s
casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By
commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that
environmental reform is a necessity.
By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action
needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list
included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes
the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals

China Social Inequality
The complexity of China s overall marital and family status, gender equality and standard living
shows that there is visible inequality that exists between China s Rural and Urban areas. In 1966 and
1967, Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Tse Tung, had characterized a social
movement known as the Red Guards. The Red Guards were China s future as a minority organization
during the Cultural Revolution. This Revolution reestablished Mao s campaign from the Great Leap

During the Cultural Revolution, extramarital affairs were condemned labeled as Male Female
Relationship Lifestyle. Infidelity is rife in China, due to a male dominated culture that has traditionally
(albeit quietly) tolerated concubines and prostitution. Pressure to marry young leads to fast
arrangements (Hayes). In China, Men and Women possess different capacities and functions towards
behavior expectations, position within the family, legal rights, public status, education, and types of
work. By the late nineteenth, early twentieth centuries, serious challenges about the gender
inequalities that were in both Japan and China were to be accepted. Can t a girl serve equally well as a
reminder of her parents? What a crazy, stupid custom, which demands that every couple have a baby
boy to carry on the family line (Jin). During the Cultural Revolution, female specific concerns
continued when the class war took place and equality was assumed to be ignored. To portray the

upon the attitudes made towards the women in the Novel for example, how the nurses had to be

demands of human longing must contend with the weight of centuries of custom. Waiting charms and

Introduction
The issues in the case of Hawthorn Blood Supplies Co Ltd , which is a listed company on Australian

have been any breaches of relevant common law rules and statutory provisions in relation to capital

Section 260A(1)(a) permits a company to give financial assistance provided that the assistance does
not materially prejudice either the company, its shareholders or the company s ability to pay its
creditors (Ciro 2009).
In the case of Hawthorn Blood Supplies Co Ltd, Roger convinces other directors to give him a $10
million loan. Roger uses his company to use some of the loan money to buy shares in Hawthorn Blood
Supplies Co Ltd to boost its share price and then sell it. By giving Roger this loan Hawthorn Blood
Supplies Co Ltd will subsequently reduce its capital and put shareholder s and creditors at risk. This
would breach s260A1 (a). Section 260A(1)(b) permits a company to give financial assistance even if
this would materially prejudice the interests of the company or its ability to pay its creditors, provided
that the assistance is approved by shareholders pursuant to s260B. This procedure is very similar
approval for selective capital reductions and selective share buy backs. In our case the board of
directors has failed to get shareholders approval when they decided to lend Roger $10 million. There
is clearly a breach of s260A(1)(b) and a possible breach of conflict of interests.

A director has a duty to prevent a company from trading whilst insolvent. A company is insolvent if it
cannot pay all its debts as and when they

Dissociative Identity Disorder, By Paula Stewart
Following the life of Paula Stewart, who had been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder
(DID), is absolutely intriguing. Reading and studying the breakdown of this dissociative disorder has
been eye opening. Paula s road to recovery is unlike anything most people have ever heard of.
Although there was great struggle in learning to cope with this disorder, Paula received the best
treatment she could under her circumstances. At the time of this case, Paula Stewart was a 38 year old
female. She was a divorced woman and had two children, whom of which one is an 18 year old son
and a 15 year old daughter. Paula s social history is critical to understand before delving into the issue
at hand. This history helps connect the dots as to why Paula had DID. Paula was raise in a small, rural
town. Her family unit consisted of four people; herself, her older brother, her mother, and her father.
Her parents were strict and authoritarian. Paula s mother could be described was a dominant,
outspoken woman who managed tight control on her family. Mrs. Stewart punished Paula harshly as a
child by putting Paula s hands in scalding hot water or locking her in a closet for hours. All the while,
Paula s father was shy, withdrawn, and unaffectionate towards Paula within the first five years of her
life. Those first five years are the most critical to development in a person s life. Mr. Stewart showed
no interest in his daughter until she turned 5 years old. Inappropriate physical

But have you ever wondered how the bad guy got to the point of being bad. Some could have been
born into it or maybe tricked at a young age. some may have needed to get things for their families
because they did not have enough. then again a select few of the world are just plain evil. you can
never look at a person and judge them before seeing what is inside them, but in the real world that s
not how it goes. people only see what they want. for this reason my favorite villain is Megamind and
not for the reason you may think. Yes, he does destroy and reek havoc upon Metro City, but he also
has a big heart. sometimes the villain is not only a villain. sometimes you need to look a little deeper
to see the good in the bad.

what he thought was right. Megamind did not want to be bad. he even tried at first to use all he had

There are currently sites dedicated to farmers markets, however, these sites are focused more on
informing the community of their locations and products than actual sales. This leaves in opening in
the market to capitalize on people s desire to eat locally and organically. In addition to being for
mainly informational purposes these sites are visually unappealing. Sites like
farmersmarketonline.com have an appearance like that of Craigslist.org and are reminiscent of the
days of the early internet. The market can be captured by offering consumers a site that resembles a
real farmers market visually. SWOT Analysis Strengths
1. Knowledge of marketing and markets is a strength held by the individual involved in the start of
Mike s Market. This strength will help with the formation of the company since one of the price points
for users of the site is marketing expertise and help with online sales. This strength will also come into
play in creating initial buzz about the site to drive traffic and increase awareness.
2. Logistics and transportation support is another critical part of the online farmers market so that
users can concentrate on growing and selling their goods. The starter of the site has over five years in
logistics and transportation ranging from local shipping to international shipping.
3. The passion to see this site from an idea to reality is a strength possessed by the sites founder. This
passion will aid in forming bonds with initial farmers and creating

Current Situation of Airline Industry
Since the airline industry was deregulated in the late 1970s, they shall hold the line on the number of

After analysis, you can find that the competitors are not only the players, and other transportation can
also impact on airlines. The strongest competitive force is the airline which can determine the
profitability of an industry and of are of greatest importance in strategy formulation. Like other
industries, you need to compete in all of the aspects, such as product quality, service and so on. As you
know, air transport has a certain risk, so you must make your customers feel safe. The fare is
expensive compared to other transportation, so you service must be the best.
Distribution channels shall improve the profitability. Set up distribution outlets throughout the
country. Facilitate the customers around the country, and increase profits for themselves. Government
policy shall limit the development of airline, such as air pollution, water pollution, saving energy and
so on. The airline must meet these requirements, and otherwise the government shall limit their
development.
Formulate strategy for coping with competition. The intense competition in airline industry is neither
coincidence nor bad luck, as long as you formulate a set of detailed strategy plan, and you shall have
ability to cope with your competitors. You need rational analysis, and do not be too pessimistically.
If the airlines want to cope with the competitors, they need to invest large financial resources to build

Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a collection of short stories about
the lives of the people who live on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The central protagonist of the
story is Victor Joseph who we see in many short stories and thus see the plight Native Americans go
through in modern day America. The novel shows us the many trials that the people of the Reservation
go through and addresses the many serious problems that modern Native Americans face, such as
racism, alcoholism, poverty, limited educational opportunities, and being geographical isolated.
Ultimately the state of affairs that the modern Native American race goes through stems from the
historical events of European colonialism as well as modern day popular culture.
One of the major problems that modern Native Americans face are the Americanization or white
washing of their culture. This is caused by technology as well as the isolation of the reservation
compared to the outside world. Still, Indians have a way of surviving. But it s almost like Indians can
easily survive the big stuff. Mass murder, loss of language and land rights. It s the small things that
hurt the most. The white waitress who wouldn t take an order, Tonto, the Washington Redskin (The

Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face...
The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we
process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how
these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are
encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various
units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial
features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by
McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other
indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on

It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy
people.
There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They
asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found
people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This
supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other
contextual information about them.
Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not
the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not
separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this
suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a
vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the
concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression.
One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with
developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but their ability to
recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy

Rhetorical Analysis Of John Kennedy s Inaugural Address
On January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy delivered a speech to the citizens of America and the
world. After the end of a close, cutthroat election, he used this speech not to celebrate his victory as
president, but to unite the audience. He addresses the audience with a speech that would be
remembered for years to come, as its call to duty is a powerful one. A strong appeal to ethics─ not
only his ethics, but our ethics as a country united through common values─ and powerful emotional
and logical arguments are used to convince the audience to take a stand and make a difference.
Additionally, he appeals to the rest of the world by referring to different areas and countries of the
globe while also connecting all human beings together as one population. In this inaugural address,
Kennedy connects Americans together as one country and humans together as one population with a
call to duty that relies on a heavy appeal to the ethics and morals of himself and the audience.
Additionally, the use of a structurally and logically sound argument with powerful imagery and
emotions used throughout the speech allows this call to action to be so effective in uniting Americans
and the human race together.
Kennedy aims for his speech to be used as a call to duty to unite all of his listeners. There were many
pressing issues─ threats to freedom and liberty, existence of poverty and misery, and lack of peace and
civility─ that he felt should be rectified. He states that his inauguration should be a beginning of
renewal and change, and goes on to connect Americans together. He appeals to the shared background
of this proud and disciplined generation of heirs of our first revolution and asserts that this generation
will prove their patriotic loyalty by leading America to join in the effort to assure the survival and
success of liberty. All Americans, born here or not, are members of the great American melting pot.
While we may have different ethnic or racial backgrounds, all who live in this proud country are all
people who believe in values such as liberty, freedom, and justice. We are all descendants or
supporters of the brave patriots who fought in the revolutionary war to stand for these same principles,
and by

Introduction to psychological warfare
Never underestimate the effects of psychology in wars, it can make or break both the ally and
opponent. As a person who lived in a country that lived by the propaganda every day for almost thirty
years, I only catch glimpse of it when I was young. Nowadays, it is like another battle not in field, but
in the media.
According to the Dictionary, the definition of psychological warfare is, The use of propaganda,
threats, and other psychological techniques to mislead, intimidate, demoralize, or otherwise influence
the thinking or behavior of an opponent.
It is misbelieved that the psychological warfare is a modern invention, but in fact it goes back to
ancient times. It was used in several wars against Greeks, Babylon, and Athens.
There three categories of psychological warfare operations according to Daniel Lerner, in his book.
They are white propaganda, grey propaganda and black propaganda. The white one is truthful and not
strongly biased, where the source of information is acknowledged. While grey containing no
information that can be proven wrong; the source is not identified. Finally black one which is
essentially deceitful, information given in the product is accredited to a

Cultural Influences On Bullying
There are many influences that play their parts within Bullying that many of us are not always aware
of. Social roles, cultural beliefs and biases, social inequality, and even excising social conditions fall
within social issues of Bullying. For starters, a victim and Bullies are considered the social roles of
Bullying. The victim often describes the person being bullied as opposed to the bully is the person
initiating bullying.
When a person is initiating bullying, it often refers to verbal or physical harassment such as fighting,
calling names and even black mailing. In fact, researchers and bloggers have mentioned labeling kids,
as victims and Bullies does not help discard the situation. It is known to cause children to identify
themselves as victims and bullies and patterns may be repeated. Nonetheless, although social roles
such as Victims and Bullies can be negative as far as labeling, it has helps understand the source of
warning signs and aggressive behavior so it can be managed properly. For example, Warning signs
such as constantly speaking negative, getting into a lot of fights, being aggressive and even coming
home with scars and bruises. Average shows that potential bullying may occurs during the 4th 12th
grade. During these situations some schools have requested organizations and awareness taught during
classes to help educate kids on he effects and possible consequences of bullying.

Similarities Between Eastern And Western Philosophy
Eastern Philosophy
(RG Atento, 2015)
Having been schooled in a kind of education that focuses on a thought process that is halfway across
the globe, it is quite appealing to have discovered Eastern Philosophy as a grown man through a black
book lying inside our office s stock room in mid 1990s. That book proved to pivotal because it
introduced to me the Teachings of Buddha, and then, the whole Eastern philosophy starting from Lao
Tzu and Kung Fu Tze and Sun Tzu. Looking back at all these and analyzing the underlying
similarities on the Eastern block of philosophers, including the Muslim scholars, the Hindu mystics,
and the Japanese poets, I write this small treatise.
First, in the eastern philosophy, there seems to be an insistence on cosmological unity. The world is
one and we are one with the cosmos. No matter how hard we struggle past singularity and
individualism, the fact remains that we are mere drops of water in a boundless ocean of consciousness.
Alas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamentals of the status quo however, should not be questioned. The culture of considering and
introducing radical changes is weaker. This is one of the main differences between eastern and western
philosophy, in that, while the latter is concerned with the struggles and triumphs of the hero and the
individual, eastern thought excludes the self as much as possible, and features the society, the family
and the state. Duties here are viewed as spiritual and almost missionary like. To create and develop
without any feelings of ownership, to work and guide without any expectation and control, is the best
quality (Lao Tzu). Further, to achieve self liberation and nirvana you need to perform your duties
without expecting any reward for it . (Vedanta, Hinduism). Finally, action can be achieved by inaction,
where result is achieved by Not Me

John Coltrane Influences
John Coltrane is considered one of the most important figures in jazz, alongside other greats such as
Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. Coltrane struggled with drug addiction early on in his career, but
during the late 1950 s he was able to get through it. I chose John Coltrane because I consider myself a
fairly religious person, Coltrane himself was a religious person who wanted to bring positivity to
people through his music. Arguably Coltrane s most globally acclaimed record, A Love Supreme, was
greatly influenced by his devotion and love for God. This record shows just how much influence
Coltrane s religious awakening had on his musical creations. I want to learn more about John Coltrane

This spiritual awakening had a major impact on his musical career. In an essay written by Hamilton
Poore titled, John Coltrane s a Love Supreme, Yesterday and Today: Breaking Boundaries, Testing
Limits Hamilton explains how Coltrane s spiritual awakening came during a period where his health
and music were at its worst; this spiritual awakening had a significant role in Coltrane s musical career
(Hamilton Poore 190). It was not until after this life changing event that Coltrane began to experiment
with his music and play the tenor saxophone in a way no other had before. I believe that this spiritual
awakening allowed him to envision new and challenging ways to play the tenor saxophone. Coltrane
had already been gifted with the ability to play the saxophone, but his religious experience only
furthered his ability and I believe that God was the reason for his gifted techniques and talent. Once
John Coltrane had gotten over his heroin addiction he became fully absorbed with his music. He
rejoined the Miles Davis now sextet by 1959 and recorded the extremely famous Kind of Blue record.
This event came after he had been working alongside Thelonious Monk for a few years. The Kind of

What Was The Role Of Women In Brazilian Society
Many people expected order and progress to go relatively smooth, as long as the country was
progressing in a manner they wanted it to. When women started to gain authority, whether it be in the
public sphere or the private of their home, it sparked controversy. Many men did not agree with the
way women were portraying themselves in society. For example, Hollywood portrayed the modern
woman and many men did not like it. In a short time span we see the role of women rapidly change in
Brazilian society. Early on in Brazilian culture, the Brazilian Civil laws essentially made women

Nuclear families began taking over the traditional household style. Women started to become their
own person instead of property. They could hold prestigious jobs and had a say in daily life. The
Revista Faminina played a tremendous role in society for women. It helped show them there s many
more opportunities out there than just staying in the home. By the 1920s shopping became a regular
occurrence for them. Advertisements in magazines even tried persuading people to just buy clothes
instead of making them. Peddlers made it easy for women to not even have to leave the house if they
did not want to. They gradually transformed from producers to consumers thanks to the market
economy. No more would they have to spend their days sewing and catering to everyone else s needs.
All of the rapid changes gave them a sense of belonging and entitlement to equality in society. Health
care was even on the rise for women and children. New studies and advances in technology made
hospitals relatively easy to access. Gynecologist started to become morally acceptable in society for
women to visit. As health care became a common issue many women adopted the role as caregivers.

The Role Of Katherna In Taming Of The Shrew

pertaining to the title. She is the eldest daughter of Baptista Minola and well known to be a very shrew
women which leads him to decide to prevent Bianca, his other younger and arguably better daughter,
from marrying until Katherina does so, which then leads us to the plot of the story. Suitors are
introduced to both of the sisters, though Katherina only has one, who goes by the name Petruchio.
Petruchio is shown to be cruel and lies about Katherina s consent to the marriage, as well as telling the
audience of his goals to tame Katherina.
In the Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio tames Katherina by starving her, contradicting her, and
depriving her of sleep. One example from the text on Petruchio tames Katherina is by starving her in

The Role of the Nurse Leader in Quality
Preventable hospital readmissions remain among one of the many serious quality issues plaguing the
healthcare industry today. Readmissions can carry fiscal implications, impact patient safety, and
outcomes of care (Helm, Alaeddini, Bretthauer, Skolarus, 2016). The cost of unplanned hospital
readmissions is estimated to be upwards of $15 billion dollars annually of which $12 billion has been
associated with preventable admissions (Helm et al., 2016). It is highly recognized that as many as
20% of Medicare beneficiaries are presently being readmitted within 30 days of discharge (Hunter,

Ms. Larry stated that reviewers measured the total number of patients presenting to the ED within 30

compared the patient s ED diagnosis to the previous admission and discharge diagnosis (K. Larry,

Pocahontas and the Mythical Indian Woman Essay
Pocahontas and the Mythical Indian Woman
Pocahontas. Americans know her as the beautiful, Indian woman who fell in love with the white
settler John Smith and then threw her body upon the poor white captive to protect him from being
brutally executed by her own savage tribe. The magical world of Walt Disney came out with their own
movie version several years ago portraying Pocahontas as a tan, sexy Barbie doll figure and John
Smith as a blond haired, blue eyed muscular Ken doll. Although Disney attempts to instill racial
tolerance, inter racial friendship, and nonviolent resolutions in Pocahontas, they contribute to the

Barnett explains, a number of unlucky Pocahontas figures populate the frontier romance, saving white
beloveds only at the cost of their own lives (93). Fortunately, Pocahontas s life was spared despite her
willingness to sacrifice, although her later affiliations with a white man and Europe led to her death
from disease. The notion of females rescuing white men and assimilating with their culture have
traditionally been connected, which resulted in greater Indian deaths due to their exposure to a foreign
culture from which they had not yet learned to protect themselves.
On the other hand, these new Native women are not always the primary characters of the fiction, but
their presence is necessary for the text to evolve. Although similarities exist between the mythical
Indian woman and the characters developed in modern fiction, the new portrait being painted of
Native women shows them as strong, spiritual, and powerful, even if they choose to use their power in
a destructive manner. Keeping with tradition, Indian women are still caretakers and healers but while
they keep their positions as saviors of men, Indian women are illustrated saving Indian men rather
than white males. Whereas the Indian women previously saved white men from the savages of their
own tribe, they are now saving their own race from the destruction of the white world. Native women

Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling
Year Round Schools

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much
higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores
are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the
traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and
research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round
Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would
I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or
two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I
learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools
than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better
end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special
Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same
programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and
then remember is much higher in year round

female by the name of Firdaus, is on death row for murder. Firdaus narrates her story to a female

That must sometimes have driven their neighboring nations to despair. My understanding in this text
reflecting to my understanding of Firdaus is that she was so tormented by all the things that happened
to her in childhood and growing up, she invented the idea that she was worth something, she could use
her body to gain power in which she did. Eventually it was hard for her to get out of this line of work,
the falsehood and deceit and eventually she became desperate. Most of Nietzsche s works seem to
attack women, specifically blaming feminism. I ll come to the conclusion that Nietzsche extremely
dislikes and degrades women. I mean, his worked has similar ideas to Plato and Aristotle. Nietzsche
dislikes women who are in a position of power, who strive for the economic and legal independence.
He regards women as retrogrades and hates the idea of female progress. One of the many quotes by
Nietzsche regarding women is, when a woman has scholarly inclinations there is usually something

Teachers Have The Greatest Influence On Student Achievement
Undoubtedly, teachers have the greatest influence on student achievement (Hanushek, 2014, p. 274;
Harris, 2014, p. 771). Considering that students spend that largest portion of their day with a teacher, it
is easy to assume that teachers are the sole persons responsible for students academic and social
development. However, Hanushek (2014), contends that teachers alone are not responsible for student
achievement. There are several education inputs that contribute to the outcome, or student
achievement, as often measured by test scores; education inputs include teacher quality, school
resources, and family attributes (Hanushek, 2014, p. 273). Contrary to the education input identified
by Hanushek, the Coleman Report which introduced the concept of education production functions
concluded that school, as an input, did not matter (Hanushek, 1979, p. 352; Hanushek, 2014, p. 273).
Nevertheless, as the need to measure teacher effectiveness grows, researchers, policy makers, and
educational leaders are driven to seek out methods that objectively measure teacher effectiveness
while eliminating other outside factors that influence student achievement. Value Added Model
(VAM) measures have become one of the latest methods to measure teacher effectiveness. While these
measures are not completely valid or reliable, they still provide an insight into teacher quality and how
effective a teacher is at educating students (Harris, 2014, p. 774 5). Measuring teacher quality and

Connecting Frame Of Electrical Equipment
INTRODUCTION
Grounding or earthing explain the concept of connecting frame of electrical equipment (non current
carrying part) or some electrical part of the system (e.g. neutral point in a star of the system, one
conductor of the secondary of a transformer) with the respect to the earth. In electrical engineering,
ground or earth is the reference point in an electric circuit from which voltage is measured, a common
path for electric current, or direct physical connection to the earth. Bear in mind that this connection to
earth may be through a conductor or some other circuit element which may be; resistors, circuit
breakers depending upon the situation.
In electricity supply system, an earthing (grounding) system defines the electrical potential of the
conductors relative to that of the earth s conductive surface. The choice of earthing system has
implications for the safety and electromagnetic compatibility of the power supply.
Electrical circuit may be connected to ground (earth) for several reasons:
In main powered equipment, exposed metal part are connected to ground to prevent user contact with
dangerous voltage if electrical insulation fails.
Connection to ground limits the build up static electricity when handling flammable product or
electrostatic sensitive device.

Texas Commissioners Court
The counties in Texas have an odd relationship with the state government and the Texas constitution.
The counties are under the state and they are required to handle duties that the state rants them.
However, the counties are strongly against the involvement of the state government. Brown (2014)
states that both county officials and county residents see them as local governments and resent any
state interference (p.110). The counties are charged with the responsibilities of collecting taxes on both
urban and rural property, issues state automobile licenses, enforce state laws, register voters, conduct
elections, and help administer justice. The counties, along with state and federal governments,

Perfect Models
Perfect having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is
possible to be. . What does perfect mean to you? Does it mean having the perfect body, having the
nicest car, or having a heart of gold? Around the world girls are trying to fit into societies definition of
perfect by undergoing countless procedures, skipping meals, and even harming themselves. But how
can they ignore societies constant pressure when everywhere you look are models with size 2 waists
and DD boobs? But the big question here is, is there too much pressure on girls to have the perfect
body? I believe that fake models have a negative influence on young girls. But Lindsey, not all
companies have fake models. Companies like Aerie and American Eagle are doing campaigns like
Aerie Real and AmerICAN Eagle showing real people modeling their clothes without photoshop,
touchups, etc. . Okay, yes. Many companies are starting campaigns to help girls feel comfortable in
their own skin and accept themselves the way they are, but the number of companies that DO use

with their husband or significant other after they ve lost weight. This creates the image that girls have
to be small or petite in order for boys to like them. Some of the diets these ads are promoting are very
harmful to girls by telling them to just not eat or saying all they have to do is take one pill a day and
they ll lose 10 pounds in one week. Many people will argue and say that these ads aren t just targeted
towards women, if that was the case, then why do companies only show women in their ads getting

State Mass Killings in Indonesia 1965 to 1966 Essay
State Mass Killings in Indonesia 1965 to 1966 In order to develop a general framework with which to
understand collective political violence, I examine state mass killings in Indonesia 1965 66. While
acknowledging the importance of historical/cultural factors, I identify elements within the
sociopolitical sphere that influence actors of collective political violence at national, local, and event
specific levels. Elements discussed are elite interests, justification for violence, formal organizations,
and mobilization factors. Finally, I suggest future preventative policy measures. Introduction Violence
marks much of human history. Within the sociopolitical sphere, violence has continually served as a
tool used by various actors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this framework, I determine the relative importance of historical/cultural factors, elite interests,
justifications for violence, organization and individual perceptions. Finally, I present questions for
future research and preventative policy options. Common explanations of political violence in
Indonesia focus on local culture, the legacies of colonialism, and the social conflicts through which
violence manifests. Often, observers describe such events as spontaneous and uncontrollable. One
obtains the impression that riots are explosions of latent tensions and mass killings, unstoppable
runaway trains. However such explanations are at best incomplete and significantly obscure important
variables. Mass collective violence is rarely spontaneous. Elite interests, formal organizations and
actors at various levels interact to create violent 1 outcomes. I consider such interactions surrounding
the state mass killings in Indonesia 1965 66. The Frames of Violent Forms Defined generally as the
use of physical force or coercion, used with the intention of bringing harm to others (and their material
goods), which is linked to a struggle for power , political violence make take on numerous forms.
Such forms are characterized by varying elements of intensity, destructiveness, and duration. It is not
my intention to provide a general descriptive theory of political violence. Given the varied nature of

Literature Review Of The Nile Perch
Abstract
The Nile Perch is a freshwater fish mostly found and spread out in the Afrotropic ecozone. It feeds on
fish including its own kind, and other small fish such as minnows and shrimp. It sometimes even feeds
on small insects and brush that is found in the water. Which makes it an invasive species in just about
any lake it is introduced into. It is a great food fish and is also popular to fisherman because it attacks
attacks fishing lures.
Literature Review
Before being introduced into lake Victoria, the Nile Perch was mainly found spread out over the
Afrotropic ecozone. It is native to many river basins as in lake Chad and the Nile river it was also
found in Lake Maryut in the northern part of Egypt. The Nile was introduced to Lake Victoria to try
and help boost the fishing industry but little did they know it was going to cause many of problems
with other fish and insects in the water.
The Nile Perch is part of the fish family known as Latidae. It is a silver color with a blue like fade. It
has dark black eyes, with a yellow outer ring surrounding them. The Adult Nile perch can occupy just
about any kind of habitat as long as it has plenty of oxygen but the younger ones tend to like the
shallower parts of the water or anything that is close to the shore. It was introduced into lake victoria
in the 1950 s and has been a ecological problem ever since. It can grow up to 6 feet and as big as 500
pounds. It gives commercial fisherman a fish to catch because it is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Global Funding Institutions
Global funding institutions such the World Bank and the IMF play a significant role in the economic
and business enhancement of developing countries. These organizations provide funds to assist
developmental programs and projects in developing and already developed countries. The World
Bank, along with IMF funds vital and fundamental projects in crucial areas. They funds things like
free education, subsidized health care through insurance covers and provide relief for these nations in
times of great economic crisis (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). However, researchers have listed a lot
of disadvantages associated with these two international funding institutions.
According to Tulchinsky and Varavikova (2009), there is a lot of evidence to be viewed as important
examples of the effects of the World Bank and the IMF Funding on economic areas. Studies have
shown that IMF has established a corrupt system implying neocolonialism that seeks to expose the
developing nations for the benefit of the rich developed countries. The IMF has placed the economy in
a state of environmental destruction. The developed countries account for the highest amount of
harmful and toxic environmental emissions (Lee, 2005). China, United States, Canada and Japan
being part of the developed nations stand a better chance of economic survival and proliferation due to
the lenient policies favoring its existence.
Birdsall, Vaishnav, and CGD, 2006) states that these emissions contribute to global warming

The Cold Mountain, By Charles Frazier
Within Charles Frazier s Cold Mountain, religion is an ever present component to the novel. This is
prevalent within Inman, Ada and Monroe, Swimmer, and the mountain town itself. At times,
characters will present aspects of religion that do not coincide with the common Christian beliefs
within Cold Mountain, such as Monroe s teachings or Swimmer s own religion as opposed to
Christianity. Each religious person or reference within the story creates a sense of differentiating
views as well as an introduction to multiple perspectives of religion, self, and action. Regarding Inman
and his view of Christianity, he has a deep connection to the church. When Monroe arrived at the
church, the townspeople were skeptical of his sermons because his view of religion did not pose God
as a punishing god, separating his belief from the previous beliefs of the mountain people. Monroe
began to give the people of Cold Mountain a new view and perspective of religion, one not included in
their presumably primitive Baptist background. Monroe quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, which follows
the belief that nature is a way in which God shows his love for the world. According to Inman s
remembrance of one of Monroe s quotes, it goes as follows, that which shows God in me, fortifies me.
That which shows God out of me, makes me a ward and a wen. There is no longer a necessary reason
for my being. Already the long shadows of untimely oblivion creep over me, and I shall decrease
forever. This quote from

Poetic Devices In The Tyre Shop By Bob Orr
The Tyre Shop is a poem written by Bob Orr in 2001. It is a free verse poem speaking of an artists
admiration and perhaps even adoration of the man who runs the tyre shop near his residence. The artist
frequently refers to his lack of inspiration throughout the text though his inspiration from the tyre shop
man seems to be unwavering. The poem contains no rhyme scheme and, as said previously, is
composed of 29 free form verses which convey the artistic ramblings of the writer. This essay will
examine the main themes in the poem and how stylistic and poetic devices were used to communicate
these themes.

apart ) and rising moons ( the moon will lift out over the great emptiness and silence ). His admiration
for the tyre man is brought back once again with his reference to the sun as a A wild orb of redness

  • 2. Analysis Of Pygmalion And Stoppard s Arcadia Although all education is interrelated and can improve one s quality of life, it is up to him or her to utilize the knowledge to improve their life in both Shaw s Pygmalion and Stoppard s Arcadia, but differs in the motive seeking education, where one is to improve one s social class and life and another is due to curiosity and fascination, respectively. In both texts, knowledge and education advanced the character s life quality to a certain limit. In Pygmalion, Eliza, a girl with no manners who seemingly lives on the streets seeks education in the means of language and manners in order to sell flowers at a flower shop. In Arcadia, Thomasina, on the other hand, seeks education in the pursuit of curiosity. Both texts depict knowledge as a passageway for a better life but then show that it is how one utilizes the education and knowledge that determines one s quality and satisfaction with life. Education in Pygmalion is depicted as a stepping stone into a better life, but it is how one puts one s knowledge to use that determines their satisfaction with life. The main message of Pygmalion is appearances can be deceiving. Higgins, a high middle class man who studies phonetics the science of speech with a proper education, conveys a persona of being cold, stern, proper, conventional, and intellectual. Eliza, on the other hand, grew up on the streets, which resulted in her hideous accent. She was ...not at all an attractive person...[She] wears a... hat... exposed to ... There are several different ways to make a smoke bomb, but the most common method used is potassium nitrate (oxidizer), sugar (fuel) and baking soda (reducing reagent). The potassium nitrate and sugar react in an explosive reaction when lit. This reaction is moderated by the baking soda so that the smoke bomb creates smoke for a longer period of time rather than just burning out. During the combustion of the smoke bomb, the sugar will be oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. The nitrogen in the potassium nitrate will be reduced to nitrogen gas. • 5. The Environment Of A Soil Ecosystem A soil ecosystem is composed of both living and non living matter with a diversity of interactions (The Environmental Literacy Council, N.d.). This is a place where energy and matter are transformed and transported. Analyses that can be used to assess the functioning of land ecosystems is abiotic indicators, biological indicators, and atmospheric indicators. Abiotic indicators can include pH, moisture, and temperature. Soil temperature and moisture are important environmental factors that affect the conservation and physiology of earthworms (M.L. Presley et al, 1996). Biological indicators can include earthworms, plants, and leaf litter. Atmospheric indicators include carbon dioxide emissions. Interactions among these three indicators can also help to assess if the ecosystem is functioning. It is hypothesized that a functioning ecosystem is related to many types of interactions, such as earthworms eating leaf litter and leaf litter falling from the plants. It is predicted that IU has good soil quality based on the fact is is near Jordan River, and there is a diversity of plant life growing. What is the ecosystem s quality based on the interactions between leaf litter, soil, and worms? The ecosystem is claimed to be functioning based on the biomass of the earthworms and leaf litter and the pH, moisture, and temperature of the soil. During the second week of placement we went out onto our assignment floors and got to shadow a nurse. One of the patients that morning was crying, so I had went up to her asked what was wrong, her response was I have been sitting in my own stool since 6am, I rang my call bell and no one has came . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brief is suppose to be changed at least 5 8 times a day or immediately after it s been soiled. After a brief change it is important to clean the area properly to prevent any infections. A urinary tract infection can occur if a patient stays in their soiled brief for an extended amount of time or if they are not cleansed properly. Another consequence with having a soiled brief is that you could be at risk for skin breakdown. As stated Too much moisture over hydrates the skin, making it weak and more sensitive to friction, shear and breakdown (think about being in the tub or pool for a long time). Primary sources of excess skin moisture include sweating, bowel and bladder accidents, and drainage from wounds (Skin Health: Prevention and Treatment of Skin Breakdown,2011). Therefore, if a healthcare provider does not attend to a soiled brief immediately, risk for infection and skin breakdown will occur. My personal/ professional values and beliefs In this situation I felt that it conflicted with me on a personal and professional level, being a student nurse and also a women. When I first went into the room and seen a patient crying, I wanted to help but with my qualifications as a student I was not able to. So to explain the process for caring for my baby was fairly simple, my partner, Lily, had a schedule that was the opposite of mine and we would switch off caring for the baby evenly. She had the baby one day and I would have him the next. • 12. Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson Jaanavi Selvaraj Hitchens Pd 8 Silent Spring Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of pesticide application. In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film, Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity. By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is caused by technology as well as the isolation of the reservation compared to the outside world. Still, Indians have a way of surviving. • 25. Outline and evaluate Bruce and Young s theory of face... The face recognition model developed by Bruce and Young has eight key parts and it suggests how we process familiar and unfamiliar faces, including facial expressions. The diagram below shows how these parts are interconnected. Structural encoding is where facial features and expressions are encoded. This information is translated at the same time, down two different pathways, to various units. One being expression analysis, where the emotional state of the person is shown by facial features. By using facial speech analysis we can process auditory information. This was shown by McGurk (1976) who created two video clips, one with lip movements indicating Ba and other indicating Fa . Both clips had the sound Ba played over the clip. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also unclear if it is the brain injury itself that causes the result and if it is the same for healthy people. There was a study done by Young, Hay, and Ellis (1985) that uses people with no medical issues. They asked people to keep a diary record of problems they experienced in face recognition. They found people never reported putting a name to a face while knowing nothing else about that person. This supports the model as it suggests that we cannot think of a person s name unless we know other contextual information about them. Prosopagnosia is a condition where a person cannot recognise familiar faces, but only the features, not the whole face. The condition contradicts the model as it suggests that the process are most likely not separate. As most patients had severe problems with facial expression as well as facial identity, this suggests they are processed separately. The model can also be seen as reductionist, as it only gives a vague description of what the cognitive system does. However, there is research that does support the concept that there are two are separate paths for processing face recognition and facial expression. One being Humphreys, Avidan, and Behrmann (2007) who studied three participants with developmental prosopagnosia. All three had poor ability to recognise faces, but their ability to recognise facial expressions was similar to that of healthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Rhetorical Analysis Of John Kennedy s Inaugural Address On January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy delivered a speech to the citizens of America and the world. After the end of a close, cutthroat election, he used this speech not to celebrate his victory as president, but to unite the audience. He addresses the audience with a speech that would be remembered for years to come, as its call to duty is a powerful one. A strong appeal to ethics─ not only his ethics, but our ethics as a country united through common values─ and powerful emotional and logical arguments are used to convince the audience to take a stand and make a difference. Additionally, he appeals to the rest of the world by referring to different areas and countries of the globe while also connecting all human beings together as one population. In this inaugural address, Kennedy connects Americans together as one country and humans together as one population with a call to duty that relies on a heavy appeal to the ethics and morals of himself and the audience. Additionally, the use of a structurally and logically sound argument with powerful imagery and emotions used throughout the speech allows this call to action to be so effective in uniting Americans and the human race together. Kennedy aims for his speech to be used as a call to duty to unite all of his listeners. There were many pressing issues─ threats to freedom and liberty, existence of poverty and misery, and lack of peace and civility─ that he felt should be rectified. He states that his inauguration should be a beginning of renewal and change, and goes on to connect Americans together. He appeals to the shared background of this proud and disciplined generation of heirs of our first revolution and asserts that this generation will prove their patriotic loyalty by leading America to join in the effort to assure the survival and success of liberty. All Americans, born here or not, are members of the great American melting pot. Considering that students spend that largest portion of their day with a teacher, it is easy to assume that teachers are the sole persons responsible for students academic and social development. However, Hanushek (2014), contends that teachers alone are not responsible for student achievement. There are several education inputs that contribute to the outcome, or student achievement, as often measured by test scores; education inputs include teacher quality, school resources, and family attributes (Hanushek, 2014, p. 273). Contrary to the education input identified by Hanushek, the Coleman Report which introduced the concept of education production functions concluded that school, as an input, did not matter (Hanushek, 1979, p. 352; Hanushek, 2014, p. 273). Nevertheless, as the need to measure teacher effectiveness grows, researchers, policy makers, and educational leaders are driven to seek out methods that objectively measure teacher effectiveness while eliminating other outside factors that influence student achievement. Value Added Model (VAM) measures have become one of the latest methods to measure teacher effectiveness. Introduction Violence marks much of human history. Within the sociopolitical sphere, violence has continually served as a tool used by various actors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this framework, I determine the relative importance of historical/cultural factors, elite interests, justifications for violence, organization and individual perceptions. Finally, I present questions for future research and preventative policy options. Common explanations of political violence in Indonesia focus on local culture, the legacies of colonialism, and the social conflicts through which violence manifests. Often, observers describe such events as spontaneous and uncontrollable. One obtains the impression that riots are explosions of latent tensions and mass killings, unstoppable runaway trains. However such explanations are at best incomplete and significantly obscure important variables. Mass collective violence is rarely spontaneous. Elite interests, formal organizations and actors at various levels interact to create violent 1 outcomes. I consider such interactions surrounding the state mass killings in Indonesia 1965 66. The Frames of Violent Forms Defined generally as the use of physical force or coercion, used with the intention of bringing harm to others (and their material goods), which is linked to a struggle for power , political violence make take on numerous forms. Such forms are characterized by varying elements of intensity, destructiveness, and duration. It is not my intention to provide a general descriptive theory of political violence. • 46. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Global Funding Institutions Global funding institutions such the World Bank and the IMF play a significant role in the economic and business enhancement of developing countries. These organizations provide funds to assist developmental programs and projects in developing and already developed countries. The World Bank, along with IMF funds vital and fundamental projects in crucial areas. They funds things like free education, subsidized health care through insurance covers and provide relief for these nations in times of great economic crisis (Tulchinsky Varavikova, 2009). However, researchers have listed a lot of disadvantages associated with these two international funding institutions. According to Tulchinsky and Varavikova (2009), there is a lot of evidence to be viewed as important examples of the effects of the World Bank and the IMF Funding on economic areas. Studies have shown that IMF has established a corrupt system implying neocolonialism that seeks to expose the developing nations for the benefit of the rich developed countries. The IMF has placed the economy in a state of environmental destruction. The developed countries account for the highest amount of harmful and toxic environmental emissions (Lee, 2005). China, United States, Canada and Japan being part of the developed nations stand a better chance of economic survival and proliferation due to the lenient policies favoring its existence. • 47. The Cold Mountain, By Charles Frazier Within Charles Frazier s Cold Mountain, religion is an ever present component to the novel. This is prevalent within Inman, Ada and Monroe, Swimmer, and the mountain town itself. At times, characters will present aspects of religion that do not coincide with the common Christian beliefs within Cold Mountain, such as Monroe s teachings or Swimmer s own religion as opposed to Christianity. Each religious person or reference within the story creates a sense of differentiating views as well as an introduction to multiple perspectives of religion, self, and action. Regarding Inman and his view of Christianity, he has a deep connection to the church. When Monroe arrived at the church, the townspeople were skeptical of his sermons because his view of religion did not pose God as a punishing god, separating his belief from the previous beliefs of the mountain people. Monroe began to give the people of Cold Mountain a new view and perspective of religion, one not included in their presumably primitive Baptist background. Monroe quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, which follows the belief that nature is a way in which God shows his love for the world. According to Inman s remembrance of one of Monroe s quotes, it goes as follows, that which shows God in me, fortifies me. That which shows God out of me, makes me a ward and a wen. There is no longer a necessary reason for my being. Already the long shadows of untimely oblivion creep over me, and I shall decrease forever. This quote from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Poetic Devices In The Tyre Shop By Bob Orr The Tyre Shop is a poem written by Bob Orr in 2001. It is a free verse poem speaking of an artists admiration and perhaps even adoration of the man who runs the tyre shop near his residence. The artist frequently refers to his lack of inspiration throughout the text though his inspiration from the tyre shop man seems to be unwavering. The poem contains no rhyme scheme and, as said previously, is composed of 29 free form verses which convey the artistic ramblings of the writer. This essay will examine the main themes in the poem and how stylistic and poetic devices were used to communicate these themes. The poem begins with a blunt and straightforward phrase ( It begins every morning ) indicating that the series of events the poet is going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He speaks of gum trees in the park at the back of his flat providing us with the idea that he observes the man from an higher view almost like a bird perched on a tree branch. The poem shifts in tone and becomes wonderfully poetic, describing the beautiful landscapes ( A wild orb of redness tearing itself apart ) and rising moons ( the moon will lift out over the great emptiness and silence ). His admiration for the tyre man is brought back once again with his reference to the sun as a A wild orb of redness tearing itself apart ripped from its axle ; the use of the term axle which is what a tyre rotates upon creates the image of the sun as a red wild tyre rotating upon its own galactical ...
