This document provides a 3-phase history of teacher evaluation in the United States:
1) The first phase from 1929 focused on evaluating teacher traits and dispositions, listing qualities like cheerfulness and dignity.
2) The second phase from the mid-20th century aimed to professionalize teaching by introducing certification tests and requirements for ongoing professional development, moving the focus to teacher inputs.
3) The current third phase since the 21st century evaluates teachers based on student outcomes, using data from assessments and a teacher's impact on learning.
Protein malnutrition, also referred to as protein deficiency, is a condition that occurs when an individual's diet lacks an adequate amount of protein, leading to various negative health consequences. This form of malnutrition can manifest in different ways, with two distinct clinical presentations known as kwashiorkor and marasmus.
Kwashiorkor is a severe form of protein malnutrition often seen in children. It occurs when there is a deficiency of high-quality protein in the diet, despite an adequate caloric intake. The lack of protein results in a disruption of important physiological processes, leading to various symptoms and complications. Common signs of kwashiorkor include edema, which is the accumulation of fluid in tissues, particularly in the legs, feet, and face. Additionally, individuals with kwashiorkor may experience muscle wasting, growth stunting, and impaired immune function. Other symptoms can include thinning hair, brittle nails, poor wound healing, fatigue, and anemia.
Marasmus, on the other hand, is a form of protein-energy malnutrition that occurs when there is a severe deficiency in overall calorie intake, including both protein and energy. Unlike kwashiorkor, individuals with marasmus experience significant weight loss and muscle wasting. The body enters a state of extreme catabolism, breaking down muscle tissue to meet energy needs. The characteristic appearance of marasmus includes a "skin and bones" appearance, with prominent ribs, thin limbs, and a lack of subcutaneous fat.
Protein is essential for the growth, development, and maintenance of various body tissues, including muscles, organs, and the immune system. It plays a crucial role in the synthesis of enzymes, hormones, and antibodies, and is involved in numerous biochemical processes. Inadequate protein intake deprives the body of these vital functions, leading to the manifestations seen in protein malnutrition.
Protein malnutrition is often associated with poor dietary diversity, limited access to quality protein sources, and socio-economic factors such as poverty, famine, and humanitarian crises. Vulnerable populations, such as children and the elderly, are particularly at risk. In children, inadequate protein intake during critical growth periods can result in long-term consequences, affecting physical and cognitive development.
Diagnosis of protein malnutrition involves a comprehensive assessment of dietary history, physical examination, and sometimes laboratory tests. Medical professionals evaluate the presence of characteristic signs and symptoms, such as edema or muscle wasting, to determine the severity and type of malnutrition. Blood tests may reveal abnormal levels of proteins and other nutrients, further aiding in diagnosis and treatment planning.
The treatment of protein malnutrition involves nutritional rehabilitation, addressing both the underlying protein deficiency and overall energy intake.
Anti-Obesity Pharmacotherapy: Where are we now? Where are we going?InsideScientific

Anti-obesity medications are one of the essential tools in our medical toolbox to help patients achieve their health and weight goals.
In this webinar, Dr. Jastreboff discusses current use of anti-obesity pharmacotherapy, mechanisms involved, and agents in various stages of development with considerations for next steps. The presentation aims to inspire development of innovative therapeutics while optimizing use of existing agents to address the urgent need to effectively and sustainably treat millions of individuals with obesity around the world.
Key Topics Include:
- Understand the role of anti-obesity pharmacotherapy in the treatment of obesity
- Describe current anti-obesity pharmacotherapy

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
4. A Brief History Lesson

5. We’ll review three distinct phases of teacher
evaluation in our nation’s history.
6. The first phase of teacher evaluation focused
on Teacher traits or teacher dispositions.
One of the first pieces of literature on the
topic, The Commonwealth Teacher-Training
Study, was published in 1929.
8. Authors Charters and Waples listed 83
different traits that teachers should
possess.
You may be surprised to learn that if you were
a teacher in the 1930’s you’d be evaluated
by traits such as these…
10. Phase 1: Teacher Traits 1929
10
Cheerfulness:
a) Does not look sullen
b) Acts as if he were glad to be
living
c) Performs disagreeable tasks
pleasantly
d) Looks as if he had a good time
e) Cheers up the other fellow
f) Smiles, even when things go
wrong
g) Says “Good morning” to pupils

12. Phase 1: Teacher Traits 1929
12
Dignity:
a) Does not pretend to be going to
cry whenever boys misbehave
b) Does not apply rouge and
powder before pupils
c) Does not sit on top of desk and
swing feet
d) Does not answer pupils back in
the same saucy way that they
talk to him
e) Does not whine about things
that do not suit him
13. However, by the mid-20th century there was
a move to professionalize the teaching
profession.
Doctors and lawyers weren’t being evaluated
by their personalities, but rather, by
standards and certification requirements.
14. Phase 2: Teacher Inputs Mid-20th Century

15. Just as lawyers had the bar exam, the teaching
profession developed state certification tests.
The thought was that performing well on these
tests, and later, participating in ongoing
professional development, that great teachers
could be made and evaluated.

19. The problem with this scenario, though
certainly better than being evaluated on your
personality, was that this system on focused
on teacher inputs.
In addition, we’ve learned that these teacher
tests are not predictive of the quality of
teachers or their students’ outcomes.
