The history of cosmetics dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece around 4000 BC. Early cosmetics were made from natural ingredients like plants, animal fats, and minerals. Over time, cosmetic use spread to ancient Rome and Asia. In medieval Europe, pale skin was fashionable. The modern cosmetics industry emerged in the late 19th century as companies began producing fragrances, deodorants, and other products. Today's multi-billion dollar global cosmetics industry offers a huge variety of products across categories like skin, hair, nails, fragrance, and hygiene.

eyebrows and edges of the
eyes. For the lips, sticks of
bintsuke wax was used.

powder or bird droppings to
acquire a light skin color.
