King Afonso Pestel Influence Essay
The Portuguese presence in King Afonso s kingdom had many detrimental effects, including ones
derived from the trade of excess goods, illegal slavery, and disease. According to King Afonso, the
Portuguese coming into the Kongo undermined his authority when they they gave away a profusion of
goods. Portuguese officials were allowing merchants to set up shops and sell goods that were
prohibited, and this was done in such abundance that the people lower than the King no longer obeyed
the authority, because they possessed more of the items than the authority themselves. In his letter,
Afonso mentioned that ...many of our vassals, whom we had in obedience, do not comply because
they have the things in greater abundance than we ourselves... (paragraph ... Show more content on

The Portuguese also debilitated the King s authority by establishing a corrupted, out of control slave
trade. At first, King Afonso had welcomed business and the trading of slaves. But as time went on, the
Portuguese took things too far. Afonso makes a huge point of this in his letter, writing ...the mentioned
merchants are taking every day our natives, sons of the land and the sons of our noblemen and vassals
and our relatives...and so great, Sir, is the corruption and licentiousness that our country is being
completely depopulated... (paragraph two). Instead of taking and selling people of no importance in
his kingdom, the Portuguese were taking noblemen and other respected people as slaves. It was this
horrific act that infuriated King Afonso, and his kingdom would have soon be desolate of people if
this type of slave trade continued. The disadvantageous effects didn t stop there with the Portuguese,
for they were also sending a lot of civilians over to the Kongo that brought with them disease and
sickness. The people of King Afonso s kingdom had no way of being immune to these illnesses, and
according to him this was an enormous disservice to

What Is Nina Lee Civil Rights Activist
Have you ever dreamed of being a famous singer and lead many people for what they believed in.
Well NIna Simone has done all those things. The reason why I chose Nina Simone is because she
fought for what she believed in. She was a civil rights activist herself. She sang some songs about the
movement. Some of the songs she sang were about freedom. She believed all should be treated
equally. She moved the civil rights movement. Nina was born in North Carolina. Nina was raised in
Tyron North Carolina. Nina was the sixth out of the eight children of her parents. Nina started playing

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Congress
Although there are strengths in the way the United States Congress is built to deal with issues, there
are many weaknesses that counteract these strengths. Congress is a bicameral legislature that is made
up of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The strengths are in the way Congress has
clearly established rules. The three branches of government were created to make a separation of
powers so that no one branch can be more powerful than the next; which is known as checks and
balances. The clearly established rules that Congress has to follow is a major strength, and although
these checks and balances are beneficial, they tend to cause many dilemmas making the contemporary
Congress a relatively weak institution of American national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is the job of both Congress and the president to make a yearly fiscal budget as well as implementing
tax regulations. There has been seventeen spending gaps since the government revised its budgeting
process which is a huge weakness. The United States is supposed to be the world leader, yet their
government has not even been able to agree on a budget half of the time. The one good thing about
this budget is that Congress creates a debt limit that the president has to abide by. In theory this limit
should help prevent overspending but when the president gets close to the debt limit Congress has an
option to raise the debt limit, which they always do. If Congress does not raise the debt limit, the
president will have to decide which bills do not get paid. By not being able to pay people for the work
they have already complete, it makes the value of the dollar less trustworthy around the world. The
debt limit has been

Animal Monkey Naughton
As I walked into the first room at the Museum of Photographic Arts, Jim Naughten s Animal Kingdom
photographs drew my immediate attention because I am currently taking a lab course in Physical
Anthropology where we look at fossils every week. While there were several photos within his
exhibit, I will focus on the image Red Faced Spider Monkey (2014) since we are studying spider
monkeys in my course this week this image parallels with my current studies. Naughten uses the
technique of Stereoscopy, the study of binocular vision. At the museum they provide a stereoscopic
viewer for visitor use. While using the viewer, the flat images, then become three dimensional
bringing them to seem lifelike. Naughten s images are a wonderful example of how photography
image can have transformative effects. As I walked through the second photograph that caught my
attention was an image by Paul Schiek titled Victory. This image was one of ... Show more content on

The photograpning her, Ana Casas Broda, exhibit shows nine inkjet images printed on cotton paper of
motherhood in different settings. The text accompanying the exhibit describes the term Kinderwunsch
was used in Broda s maternal family s native German, which combines the words for child and desire
meaning the desire to have children . After doing more research on the artist Broda, I learned the
reasoning in why she wanted to capture these interactions between herself and her children. Before
having children Broda spent five years in fertility treatments before she was able to conceive her son.
Most would probably critic the nudity in the images but as a mother with two young boys myself the
images felt even more real. There is a sense of balance in the arrangement of the nine photos with

Article Summary
In July 2012, Coverity charged Forrester Consulting to direct an overview investigation of 240 North

reason for the study is to comprehend the current application security practices and distinguish key
patterns and business sector headings crosswise over commercial enterprises.
Web applications, due to their outside confronting nature, are a percentage of the essential parkways
for security assaults and information breaks. Breaks of client information are can be adverse to or

18% of those respondents experienced misfortunes of at any rate $500,000.
We likewise found that, regarding application security, most associations utilize strategic measures
and point innovations. Few endeavor to actualize an all encompassing, prescriptive application
security strategy. This is principally because of time to market weights, detaches in the middle of
designers and security experts, and the absence of compelling application security motivating forces.
Seventy percent of our review respondents don t gauge designers with security related measurements,
and 57% don t send security prerequisites downstream to guide quality and security testing.
Looking forward, as organizations ponder a more advanced and threatening risk scene, developing
arrangements of regulations and outsider prerequisites, and an extraordinary level of IT change, they
will have no real option except to enhance their application security stance. On the off chance that
designers don t incorporate security and protection into their advancement hones from the most
punctual stages, tending to it later won t just be more costly, yet could be totally ineffectual. For this
situation, organizations may find that a greater number of things than simply their applications are at
danger.
Key Findings
In synopsis, Forrester s study yielded these key discoveries:

Immigrants Children Impacted In School
Blog Post #7: Immigrants Children Impacted in School. It is very common for immigrant children to
be discriminated in school. This can impact the way they learn and the way they view themselves. In
the early stages of childhood, children begin to learn how people view each other. The Migration
Policy Institute states, Discrimination can have particularly negative ramifications for the
development of young children s sense of self and social identity. If people around children
communicate distaste for their appearance, language, or cultural values, children internalize negative
views of themselves. Discrimination is particularly harmful in the early years, when children are in the
process of developing a sense of self. There is evidence that

Partisan Policing
In the early stages of the development of policing in the United States there were a lot of issues,
concerns and problems with how police forces functioned through the entire country. All these Issues
were noticed and changes within police departments began to take place. Before any changes were
implemented American Police Departments fell directly under the influence of each state specific
partisan government. Fortunately, America was able to stray away from the corruptions of how police
officers were selected into their position because of their political preferences and also, how
departments functioned, and other exploitations from law enforcement agencies throughout the
country.

During this time frame members of the police force were selected by elected officials. Elected officials
in charge of selecting police would only select members in favor of their specific political party. They
would do this because they favored certain people to fill the role of a police officer who shared the
same core values, preferences and idealizations that pertained to their specific political party. Because
politicians were in charge of choosing whom they wanted to fill these roles they were also able to
obstruct the management and effected how departments operated. It was considered that there was no
consistency or efficiency within divisions and the primary focus of the police force was corruption

Shark Finning Is The Removal Of The Shark
Every year there are thousands and millions of sharks dying in the ocean simply, because of a soup?
Not a soup that makes you feel or look any younger, nor does it cure a sickness, but because of a
delicacy. Sharks are at a high demand mainly in East Asia. Shark Finning is the removal of the shark s
fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the ocean where it takes a
painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top of the ecosystem, their population is also decreasing.
Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of animal cruelty, therefore the practice
of shark finning must be banned.
The shark fin soup was said to be created in China during the Sung Dynasty (AD 986), where the
emperor used the dish as a symbol of class and wealth. While catching sharks were difficult
throughout that time, it made the soup even more of a popular delicacy. The soup is a thickened broth
made with either chicken or ham broth. The price of each bowl varies from $100 to $1000 depending
on the form and elegance of shark fin served. However it is served, it is a symbolic way of showing
stature.
Now a days, it is being served during special occasions, like traditional Asian dinner banquets,
weddings, or even at restaurants. It has become almost as easy as buying a turkey for thanksgiving,
but only this seafood dish has no taste and no nutritional value. With the easy access that the

Dna Profiling Research Paper
Indeed DNA profiling has rapidly transform the field of forensics. DNA profiling is the scientific
analysis of evidence for crime scene investigation and other legal proceedings. DNA profiling is
mostly used by forensic scientists and crime lab technicians. To identify criminals and victims using
trace evidence like hair or skin samples. To produce a DNA profile, scientists compare sequences in
the genome that vary from person to person. The typical steps in DNA profiling are DNA samples are
isolated from the crime scene, suspect, victims, or other evidence. The next selected sequences from
each DNA sample are amplified (copied many times) to produce a large sample of DNA fragments.
Finally the amplified DNA regions are compared using a gel. All together, these steps provide data
about which samples are from the same individual and which sample is unique.
DNA profiling can also be used to compare the DNA of a mother, her child, and the purported father
can settle a question of paternity. An example is when DNA profiling proved that Thomas Jefferson or

This research paper focuses on the identification of Hmong culture, elucidating specific generational
differences in America that are considered the major division of the Hmong community appropriately.
There are a few distinguishing common, yet complex challenges of living between the older and
younger generations. Based on the studies of psychosocial perspectives today s modern Hmong group
and their distinctive views of socialism, activities and everyday life that affect his or her lifestyle. This

How traditional culture is still significant in older generations modern life, and the disagreements they

`` Peace, And Its Nobleness And Holiness And Honor
June Jordan, a Caribbean American poet and activist, once explained that poetry in and of itself is a
political act, because it involves telling the truth. During World War I, statesmen and politicians
propagated the war efforts, asking the men and boys to join the cause and potentially sacrifice their
lives for their country. Back in England, war was looked at in the most idealistic light. War was glory.
War was honor. War was noble. War was good, and it was right for man to fight. Early in the war,
some poets portrayed that rather romanticized version of war. Rupert Brooke spoke about the war s
cleansing abilities in his poem Peace and its nobleness and holiness and honor in The Dead. But many
poets chose to send another message to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The General s introductory cry of Good morning; good morning! upon meeting his troops illustrates
an amiable and positive view of war (1). Moving along the warfront, one soldier, Harry, remarks to
fellow soldier, Jack, that their general is a cheery old card (5). The camaraderie, however, is short
lived, and these two boys exhibit the human cost of war and of the general s lack of regard for them,
for he did for them both by his plan of attack (7). A week later, the soldiers [the general] smiled at are
most of em dead (3). The succinctness and simplicity of the poem echoes the ease with which men
died in war. So too, Wilfred Owen, renowned war poet and contemporary and mentee of Siegfried
Sassoon, replicates his mentor s view on the prolific lose of life in war, asking in his poem, Anthem of
Doomed Youth, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? (1).
To dispel the propagated glory and honor associated with death in war, in Exposure, Wilfred Owen
explores death by the elements, a common and less glorious way men died in battle. Owen famously
stated, My subject is War, and the pity of War. One such pity that he depicts in his poetry is the dismal
death of soldiers by the cold and frost rather than the expected magnificent death of soldiers in man to
man combat. In Exposure, Owen utilizes the voice of soldiers dying from the cold. Our brains ache, in
the merciless iced east winds that knive us, the soldiers

Essay On Planned Parenthood
Planned parenthood has been a topic of controversy the last couple of years, as people throughout the
nation ask whether or not the healthcare organization should be defunded. When video footage was
released in 2015 of Planned Parenthood medical officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue to
researchers, it seemed likely that federal funds would be revoked as backlash from the public was
noted (Welch). Although the nonprofit organization does offer the termination of unplanned
pregnancies, the organization offers many more services to women and men, such as free birth control
and yearly health checkups backed by medical experts and more than 100 years of research in
reproductive health (Planned Parenthood). As many people struggle financially to provide for their
families, Planned Parenthood s services are a relief to those who otherwise would not be able to afford
healthcare, which is why the organization should not be defunded.
There are many people who believe pregnancies are a miracle and a blessing, but too often women
become victims of sexual assault, which at times result in unwanted pregnancies (Stewart 1). Despite
the fact many women choose to go through with their pregnancies, other women turn to abortions as a
solution to leave the traumatic experience in the past. However, not all women who choose to
terminate their pregnancies are victims of sexual assault, as many young couples become pregnant and
choose this path because they feel they are too young

At the same time, research should be conducted into the concept of fast food chains. It is strictly
recommended to change the name of these restaurants and associate only by affiliation. Monitoring of
this can be conducted in the same way as the marketing research provided in the case. A question that
should be addressed is whether or not the attitudes/perceptions of clientele would change after
knowing that Benihana also had a fast food change. Immediate disengagement from the fast food
chain is recommended if either the fast food chain or Benihana s experience profit loss. Expansion in
to the production line type environment is strictly discouraged. It has been shown that the Benihana
model works with the combination of food quality, service and atmosphere. The hurdle from this
concept to being known only for the food quality is too costly and may prove to be unsuccessful in the
future. At the same time, the name would have to display the Benihana name to promote that quality.
If this concept were to fail, this could later have a damaging effect upon the Benihana name itself.
Therefore, it is recommended that the product line concept be discarded. Modifications within the
Benihana model could also prove to be very costly. The side effects could prove disastrous to the
name as well as take away from the three pointed model. By changing the interior or the service team,

Rhetorical Devices In The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter
It is no doubt that even before our time, rhetorical devices were being used in all genres of writing
style. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is an
immense amount of rhetorical devices being used. These literary works of writing are both set in the
early day Massachusetts colony. There are many similarities and differences, rhetorically speaking.
Despite the fact that there is a similar use of rhetorical devices there are many differences. Likewise,
this play and novel use plenty of rhetorical devices, such as simile and pathos. In the Scarlet Letter
and The Crucible both authors use pathos; a quality that brings about pity or sadness. The chief tragic
event of old man s life...which lived and died twenty or forty years ago. (Hawthorne, pg. 31). Just as
such The Crucible also uses this quality when Giles Corey, who after being seen as a villainous
character comes to truth and because of that is executed by being pressed to death. Miller and
Hawthorne use pathos in similar ways dealing with death so readers may feel sentiment for the
characters. Another rhetorical device used by both authors is Ellipsis. Hawthorne and Miller use this
device where they show where words have been left out. (Dictionary.com). In Hawthorne s The
Scarlet Letter, he writes, The father of the custom house the patriarch (Hawthorne, pg.26). Hawthorne
uses this device to convey to readers more than one idea. Similar to this, in Miller s The Crucible, he
also writes, She is transfixed with all the girls, in complete silence, she is open mouthed (Miller,
pg.46). The Authors use this device to show the importance and offer the reader more thinking.
Another common rhetorical device between these two pieces is Anaphora; the repetition of a word or
phrase at the beginning of a successive clause. Miller uses this device in The Crucible to not only
exemplify for readers the importance of the dialogue but also the emotion of the characters. I want to
open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, Pg. 15). In similar effect
Hawthorne also uses this device to exemplify and show the true emotions of characters. with the

Cultural And Religious Beliefs And Beliefs
Family is something that makes people what they are and supports them in every difficult situation.
Cultural and religious beliefs often dictate family structures, and the beliefs of those cultures and
religions, especially regarding genders, are then reflected in power dynamics. This happens because
cultures manipulate people s perspective of viewing genders because of their religious beliefs. Some
families are shaped according to this belief that men are more important and the boys in a family get
more privileges and more attention than the girls. Different cultures and their beliefs make the boys
and the men look more powerful and cause the girls to think that they are inferior to the boys.
In Hmong and in many other households, boys are seen as more important. They are the ones who will
carry the family traditions and name to next generation. Girls are seen as someone else s property as
they will get married and go to someone else s family and will carry their name and be a part of that
family. Girls since childhood are taught that the house they were born in and are raised in is not their
actual house. Their house will be where their husband lives. In Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down,
Anne Fadiman wrote about how a girl s placenta is buried under her parent s bed. However, a boy s
placenta is buried near the base of the house s central wooden pillar because in this pillar a male spirit
who is a domestic guardian, held the roof up. That pillar is a great place of

The Importance Of Following Directions In Law Enforcement
Following directions is one of the most important skills in life. The ability to follow direction the way
you are told and the way it is suppose to be done is a recipe for success. Following directions helps
avoid preventable mistakes that may cause costly mistakes and as it pertains to law enforcement,
someone s life. Making sure you are paying attention to instruction is critical, and nowhere is this truer
than in the workplace. Always follow steps carefully, know what you are supposed to do and when
you are supposed to do it. In regards to law enforcement following directions is crucial to the safety of
yourself and to others whether it be, firearms, officer survival, enforcing the law, or just contacting a
citizen. Following directions on a gun range is extremely important because when there are people
other then yourself with loaded weapons you need to be aware of everything that is going on at all
times. If you don t understand something or don t hear a command given by an instructor, you need to
as Mr. Robertson would say, speak up! . Any mistake made on the gun range is preventable, it s up to
us the students to make sure we are following our safety rules and following directions to keep the
class running smoothly for everyone. Following directions is more then just listening to someone give
orders, it can be something such as obeying the policies set forth by your agency. Following direction
is paying attention to detail and doing things right the first time. The

revenue. Campbell and Brown (2015) have opined that in the present scenario of stiff climatic
pressure as well as evolving political priorities, organizational changes within the public bodies is
gradually increasing the priority. Therefore, it can be stated that organizational is one of the complex
processes that have negative as well as positive outcomes and as such it is worth looking at the
available evidence so that the process is conducted as efficiently as well as effectively as possible. In
this particular task the main focus would be on some of the integral parts of organizational changes
and to carry on this particular task, Yahoo has been selected.
Therefore, through this research work, the researcher would try to outline as well as discuss the role of
diagnosis as well as feedback in the overall process of organizational changes and the ways to achieve
that efficiently (Carlson 2015). Apart from that, an analysis would be made to find out whether the
feedback is an essential element in an organizational development intervention or not. It has been
found that Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo has been in the headlines as she has introduced some of the
organizational changes into the corporation. The changed policies adopted in the company have been

Craft Beer And The Beer Industry
From 2012 to 2014, the number of craft breweries in America has grown from 2,401 to 3,418,
representing a 42% increase. ( Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S. ) Additionally, while
US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now represents
7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as small,
meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less than 25%
of the brewery is owned by non craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and traditional,
meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and fermentation and
further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews. ( Craft Brewer )
The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive,
but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft
beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and
Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft
and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as craft can effect perceived quality and flavor.
People s expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural
responding. Plassman and others (2008) demonstrated this using wine, by presenting wine to
participants that

The Importance Of The Dual-Language Contributions To...
The way English is taught around the world contributes to linguistic imperialism. Other countries
English programs are a vital site for social and linguistic reproduction, and the inculcation of relevant
knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and therefore particularly central in processes of linguistic
hierarchism (Phillipson 245). In other words, proper education is key when it comes to learning
English. ELL students rely on receiving outstanding education in order to contribute to the success of
the English speaking world. Without proper education, these students may not be able to keep up with
how fast the English language is becoming the standard of the world. They could fall behind along
with their country if they do not live up to that standard. EFL programs vary in English speaking
countries and consist of different methods of teaching students to learn the language. One of these
methods is the dual language method, which consists of learning English alongside a student s native
language. This is not always ideal for parents, who advocate English only classes, hoping for a fast
track approach. Although English only classes may help with spoken fluency, it has not been proven
effective for learning the written aspects of the language (Lynch). The desire for their children to keep
up with the English speaking world is behind these parents criticism of the dual language method.
However, English is not easy to teach, especially alongside another language.

Classical vocal improvised music has some, while composed, metric pieces with ceremonial
implications, such as the pishdaramad, are definitely musiqi but lack the full range of objectionable
characteristics suggested in pieces with a primarily virtuoso intent, such as the chahar mezrab, or of
Westernized music, to say nothing of absolutely secular music such as night club performances. All of
this suggests that, in contemporary urban Iran, the sounds that might be considered to be simply music
in Western culture might be regarded as music, but to varying degrees.
The dominant sounds in Iran are the metallic and clear sounds. Persian classical music has free form
which can be measured or not and is open to improvisation (âvâz/ chahârmezrâb). Moreover, from one

by their scale. It is an ingenuous imitation technique, which has been developed by the Central Asian

within a narrow range centred on one note, to richly melismatic chants with a wide range. Rhythmic

Deadly Diseases By John E. Calfee
Deadly Diseases
There s at least one person we all know who maybe have a deadly disease and may not be receiving
the treatment they desperately need. Michael Crichton a film producer, critic and author of Patenting
Life, earned his degree from Harvard Medical School, and author John E. Calfee a resident scholar of
American Enterprise Institution and economist author of Decoding the Use of Gene Patents both share
their views on gene patents. Crichton and Calfee share similarities on the research itself, but do not
share the same ideas on whether or not gene patents put a halt on research, and paying a royalty to
study the gene. Both Crichton and Calfee find research on the genes important. They may show it in
different ways such as Crichton. Crichton believes money should not be made on the process of
patenting genes. While Calfee believes making money and charging researchers and patients to pay.
They both share the importance of finding treatment or a cure in their own ways. One may think their
point is better than the other but the readers; ourselves should be the judge of that. We all have the
right to our own beliefs and how morality plays a part in our lives and what we believe is right.
The Dr. s view on gene patents is the halt they put on testing and studying of genes and current studies
to find a major breakthrough for the disease. (441) It is not only fair to the researchers who spend their
lives trying to develop a cure but also to the loved ones and

completely incompatible with the western cultural conception of an ideal woman. In the average

These Concerns Will Be Addressed In The Next Paragraph.
These concerns will be addressed in the next paragraph. Another major concern is that self sufficiency
in terms of growing and providing food domestically could be put at risk, specifically in the global
south, due to growing dependencies of imports (Bezenuh and Yiheyis 2014). While this is not a
concern to simply throw away, a recent study has suggested, that a number of countries, which are not
currently self sufficient, do have to rely on trade to meet food requirements such as nations in North
Africa (D Odorico et al. 2014). Additionally, in the same study, it was determined that trade, in the
majority of cases did not cause a loss of sufficiency, and more often played a beneficial role to nations.

It is argued, that if the global north is able to dominate the increases in agricultural trade due to free
trade, specifically infiltrating globally southern markets, it will perhaps negatively effect
improvements of efficiency in global south agricultural spheres (Beachy 2011). Additionally, it is
argued, that due to the U.S., as well as other globally northern nations using subsides, they are able to
sell their own nations product at lower prices, and effectively close off trading markets for developing
nations (Clemmitt 2008). An example of this practice in the real world involves analyzing corn trade
in North America. Since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has been put in place,
Mexican corn farmers have seen losses in their business (Beachy 2011). Additionally, the U.S. has
seen larger gains in corn exports, specifically inside Mexico (Wu and Guclu 2013). This is a real
world example, which represents one of the major concerns in expanding free trade, that it will
ultimately be exploited by nations in the global north. Additionally for these smaller farmers,
especially in developing nations who cannot compete with these conditions, poverty has been seen to
increase for these people (Kendall and Petracco 2009). Beachy argues this to be one of the major
indictments of the free trade system in improving food security, a greater number of citizens in the
developing world

Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
A symbol is an act, person, thing, or spectacle that stands for something else, by association a usually
broader idea in addition to its own literal meaning (Cassill Bausch, 1728). John Steinbeck s The

Elisa Allen working in her garden and her husband, Henry Allen, negotiating with two suited business
men that want to purchase steers. They seem to engage in conversations and go about their day as they

This description of the Salina Valley is closely related to her character. Elisa s isolation and constraint
is represented by the description of the valley. Elisa feels cut off from the rest of the world; she has no
independence, and lives in a male dominated society. The valley being described as a, closed pot can
also be considered a metaphor for Elisa s existence, she knows how the rest of her life is going to be,
and she is not happy knowing that she is so limited in choices.
Elisa lives in a masculine world with countless qualities hidden under her man s hat, clodhopper
shoes, and a big corduroy apron she wears to garden. One of the reasons that Elisa may feel more
restricted is because of the fact that she does not have any children to distract her, therefore spends the
majority of the time contemplating about her life. This gives a slight indication that they might not be
able to have children. During the period of time that this story was written, it was very unlikely for a
married woman, especially at the age of thirty five, not to have children. The fact that Elisa is childless
makes it even more evident that she seems to need more fulfillments in her life. The importance of
Elisa s gardening abilities is that she wishes to take care of someone, and since she has no one other
that Henry, which does not seem much of help for her, she transfers these maternal instincts onto her
flowers. As one can see already, the Chrysanthemums that Elisa

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos have different ways to celebrate their holidays. First of all
Halloween is only one day while the Day of the Dead is actually three days. Halloween takes place on

Data Processing And Processing Of Data
We will be talking about processing of data. So, depending on how the data are processed and the
inference is made, most signal processing methods fall into one of the two categories: Batch
processing and Adaptive processing.
The example that we will be taking in the field of wireless communications, will deal with Batch
processing method. In this method, emtire data block is recieved and gathered before it is to be
processed; and any inference about the transmitted data X is made only on the basis of the entire block
of data To understand the process of batch signal processing in a better way, we will take an example

What is a KAP study? KAP study stands for knowledge, attitude and practice study.KAP studies are
highly focused evaluations that measure changes in human knowledge, attitudes and practices in
response to a specific intervention, usually outreach, demonstration or education (The Duluth
Lakeside Neighbourhood KAP Study Karlyn Eckman and Rachel Walker, July
2008). KAP studies are an important tool in the field of public health. They are more cost effective and
they also use resources sparingly in comparison to other methods of social research because of their
great focus and limitations of scope. Social surveys include a broader range, whereas KAP studies
focus only on a
particular topic. The emphasis in a KAP study is on: Knowledge: It is the understanding of a particular
topic. What does a community know about a certain thing ? Attitude: It means what they feel about a
particular thing and the pre conceived notions which they might have about it. Practice: The actions

The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance Essay
The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance The Acts of the Apostles is the geographical and
political story of the development of the Christian Church under the impulse of the Holy Spirit.
Although many of us may think that the issues of sectarianism are new, the Acts of the Apostles shows
clearly religious intolerance over two thousand years ago. In this respect, it is comparable and
informative for moral life in the twenty first century. One of the most influential characters in Acts,
who is closely linked to the issues of sectarianism, is Peter. However, before I look at his role, the

It is obvious that these actions are the most potent expressions of the system, but alongside this type of
bold action is an array of smaller, perhaps everyday or semi conscious attitudes, actions and beliefs,
which contribute subtly to keeping the sectarianism system in place.
Drinking in Roman Catholic bars can seriously damage your health watch where you drink, because I
do (A discussion document, cards can be bought on the Shankill road)
Sectarianism always involves religion. The involvement may be an historic one that has long been
forgotten, but it is this origin that distinguishes it from purely political discrimination. It is impossible
to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact role? What
persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself perpetrate? And
most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? Is he an example which we
can portray with the aspects of sectarianism in the modern world today?
Peter is an example of somebody we can learn from today, he shows the human abilities that we our
self depict, for example we all have beliefs as well as Peter did and in some instances we can act upon
these in an unethical way, Peter can be used as an example of someone we can look up to and admire.

Research Paper On Statutory Rape
A Lot of people say that age doesn t define maturity but to lawmakers it does. In correlation to this
saying comes the statute of Statutory rape. The criminal offense of statutory rape is committed when
an adult sexually penetrates a person who, under the law, is incapable of consenting to sex. Even sex
that violates the age of consent laws but is neither violent nor physically forced is described as
statutory rape. Thus bringing me to the question of should consensual sex be seen as statutory rape or
not? Most people have offered several different viewpoints pertaining this specific statute. As I
researched the views on my topic it came to me that all sides provide valid reasons supporting their
argument on statutory rape laws. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Inequality From Gender Neutral Laws: Why Must Male Victims Of Statutory Rape Pay Child
Support For Children Resulting From Their Victimization? By Ruth Jones he argues that this statute
does not proceed in being gender neutral. In county of San Luis v Nathaniel J a 34 year old woman
had sex with a 15 year old teenager and had a baby all in all still receiving some type of compensation
as if she was not the one who committed the wrongful act. Jones says After she gave birth to her
daughter, she received Aid for families with Dependent Children (AFDC), and the county sought
reimbursement for the AFDC payments from the father . This reveals that her pregnancy caused her to
receive money from the child s father to help in taking care of the baby. The author tries to argue with
this case study in being that women who are charged within this law hold little to no consequences
depicting the gender inequality within the statutory rape statute. Statutory rape is seen more as a
masculine law because males are seen for high pressures of intimacy unlike women.Ultimately the
author s view on statutory rape laws as unfair and bias. Moreover statutory rape defenses are seemed
to be needed more because of the society we live in today. The journal article Reasonable mistake of
Age: A Needed Defense to Statutory Rape by Larry W. Myers he explains why having a not having a
way to decriminalize yourself is unfair. Therefore Myers complicated things further when he states
that statutory rape needs an affirmative defense. In the journal he speaks upon the way a person looks
can truly be misleading. Age and bodily appearance are not always correlated with each other. Myers

The Contribution Of Gustav Stresemann
Gustav Stresemann is a significant person in Germany history from 1923 1929. How far do I agree?
Explain your answer.
.
I agree to this statement to a certaint extent. The reason is because of what he accomplished from 1923
to 1929. You have to consider the weight and impact of what he had accomplished in the years 1923
1929. He ended hyperinflation in Germany. Stresemann got Germany back into the League of Nations.
Stresemann increased employment at its lowest. Appointed the Chancellor of Germany in 1923. And
is known for many other things.
In 1921, Germany had just gotten out of World War 1. And they owed France, Britain, and the United
States so much money, due to reparations. They alone had to pay 132 billion gold marks (US$33
billion). And that was required from the Treaty of Versailles, and the 1921 London Schedule of
Payments. Of course Germany and her people were furious. They fell behind on the reparations. Then
they started to buy foreign currency with marks at any price. That meant that their currency would
have to change big time. In the first half of 1922 it took 320 marks to make one dollar. The mark
became worth nothing at one point. It was so worthless they either used it as wallpaper, or destroyed
it. Since the mark was so worthless they had to end up paying off the reparations by products they
make money on. So then France steps in and occupies the Ruhr in January 1923, when they end up
falling back on that as well. Then on August 13, 1923 Gustav

Ideal Woman
An Ideal Woman
In high school, I was given the task of interviewing someone that lived during the Great Depression.
Instantly my grandmother came to my mind. Ruth LaCoste was born in 1930. Unlike my grandfather
who was always telling tales, she never spoke of her childhood. I knew she was my ideal of what a
woman should be. Until this interview, I did not know how true that was. She can best be summed up
by a quote from GB Shaw, Mrs. Warren s Profession 1893, People are always blaming their
circumstances for what they are. I don t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world
are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can t find them, make
them. In short, Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance, independence, and family. She
symbolizes my ideal woman.
Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance by not being a product of her circumstances.
September 8, 1930, Hans and Julia Liner LaCoste delivered there second daughter. Ruth LaCoste is
the fourth of seven children. Hans and Julia were uneducated trappers in the bayous of South
Louisiana. Spending their summers on Bayou Schaffer. Then moving their houseboat to Deer Island
Bayou to trap Nutria during the winter months. Consequently, Ruth knew what it was like to be
hungry as a child. In
their home it was feast or famine. Not that there was ever a feast. Her undergarments were made from
flour sacks. It took everyone working to provide for the family. Perhaps a

Sex Abuse And Sex Offenders
Sex offenders can be described as a person who has committed any of a variety of offenses, including
rape, child abuse, possession of child pornography, exhibitionism (flashing), and even consensual sex
amongst teenagers. They can vary between adults or juveniles, male or female, and the perpetrators
may even be strangers, acquaintances, or related to their victims. Based on the different characteristics
and motivations for committing these heinous offenses, these offenders require different responses that
are appropriate in order to accurately treat, manage, and supervise them. This research paper will
review types of offenses and offenders; pervasiveness of sexual abuse and recidivism; and responses
to sexual offending, including treatment, supervision, and management practices for this population.
There is a long history of rape and rape culture. Over the years history has changed the definition of
rape because it was too broad and different jurisdictions interpreted it differently to disenfranchise
certain victims. Rape is defined by Webster Dictionary as to seize and take away by force. Legal
definition of rape is nonconsensual sexual intercourse that is committed by physical force, threat of
injury, or other duress. Common law defines rape as unlawful intercourse by a man against a woman
who is not his wife, by force or threat and against her will. The new definition states rape as
penetration, no matter how slight of the vagina or anus with any body part

Major Depressive Disorder And Its Variants
Major Depressive Disorder and its variants
Introduction
The nervous system can be considered one of the most complex organ systems in the human body
which is accountable for managing numerous functions that entail the overall well being of the body.
It consists of the Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System of which participate in
voluntary and involuntary controlled functions. Detrimental effects can occur if there are issues that
interfere with normal functioning of this system that can lead to one of many mental and physiological
illnesses. Notably, Depression is one of the most common mental ailments that occur in about 6% of
adults in America (Mental Health America). It can be characterized when one displays a lack of ...

The list of depression sub types can continue but the aforementioned categories are ones that are
diagnosed from most to least frequently among cases.
Causes
There are several factors that may contribute to depression and depending on the individual can be
rooted from a single or multiple reasons. If one has a family history of the illness it increases the
likelihood to develop it along with environmental influences that also aid in its progress (CITE 2).
Also biological issues such as neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain can contribute to depression,
for example at the pre and post synapse of a neuronal cell (CITE 2). A pattern of pessimistic thoughts
and low self esteem can proliferate the illness, as a study conducted exhibited that affected individuals
did not improve perceptions of their depression even after a neurotransmitter imbalance explanation
(CITE 4).
Gender also plays a role as depression and its symptoms have been observed in women more than in
men particularly beginning from adolescence until their mid fifties (CITE 5). It can also occur in
conjunction with other illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer s
disease and heart disease (CITE 2). Lastly the mental disorder can also be triggered by tough life
events endured by an individual for instance passing of a loved one, relationship or financial hardships

St. Augustine Confessions
The confession of St. Augustine instead of taking a purely autobiographical approach seems to be a
narration of the significant episodes in which God is revealed to Augustine. Writing at a time when
there were no other autobiographies to refer to, the only source that was close to an autobiography was
the epistles of Paul. Augustine s confessions borrow a lot from Paul as he tries to decipher the truth in
the meaning of the scriptures through relating these scriptures to his own life and journey to
Christianity. His is a conversation with a silent partner. While Augustine talks directly to God and not
man, God only responds through actions and not words. In this essay, several incidences in the
Confessions of Augustine will be analyzed showing how they act as a performative exegesis of
Pauline Epistles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tolle lege incidence is seen as an important turning point of Augustine as he turns around his life
and converts to Christianity. Paul in this scripture commands the Romans to behave in a decent
manner, and not engage in sexual immorality and debauchery. Augustine, in this scripture, was jolted
like St. Paul on his way to Damascus. He declared that he would no longer engage in sexual
immorality and that he would never marry like St. Paul . As a former student of rhetoric, Augustine
did not understand why he had to accept such a blunt command without questioning its logical end.
However, the aim of the scripture seemed to be a way of saving him from the evil of rhetoric that he
had been so deeply rooted into. As a result, without questioning, the incidence that followed was his
baptism by Ambrose to become a

  • 2. King Afonso Pestel Influence Essay The Portuguese presence in King Afonso s kingdom had many detrimental effects, including ones derived from the trade of excess goods, illegal slavery, and disease. According to King Afonso, the Portuguese coming into the Kongo undermined his authority when they they gave away a profusion of goods. Portuguese officials were allowing merchants to set up shops and sell goods that were prohibited, and this was done in such abundance that the people lower than the King no longer obeyed the authority, because they possessed more of the items than the authority themselves. In his letter, Afonso mentioned that ...many of our vassals, whom we had in obedience, do not comply because they have the things in greater abundance than we ourselves... (paragraph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Portuguese also debilitated the King s authority by establishing a corrupted, out of control slave trade. At first, King Afonso had welcomed business and the trading of slaves. But as time went on, the Portuguese took things too far. Afonso makes a huge point of this in his letter, writing ...the mentioned merchants are taking every day our natives, sons of the land and the sons of our noblemen and vassals and our relatives...and so great, Sir, is the corruption and licentiousness that our country is being completely depopulated... (paragraph two). Instead of taking and selling people of no importance in his kingdom, the Portuguese were taking noblemen and other respected people as slaves. It was this horrific act that infuriated King Afonso, and his kingdom would have soon be desolate of people if this type of slave trade continued. The disadvantageous effects didn t stop there with the Portuguese, for they were also sending a lot of civilians over to the Kongo that brought with them disease and sickness. The people of King Afonso s kingdom had no way of being immune to these illnesses, and according to him this was an enormous disservice to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Congress Although there are strengths in the way the United States Congress is built to deal with issues, there are many weaknesses that counteract these strengths. Congress is a bicameral legislature that is made up of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The strengths are in the way Congress has clearly established rules. The three branches of government were created to make a separation of powers so that no one branch can be more powerful than the next; which is known as checks and balances. The clearly established rules that Congress has to follow is a major strength, and although these checks and balances are beneficial, they tend to cause many dilemmas making the contemporary Congress a relatively weak institution of American national ... There has been seventeen spending gaps since the government revised its budgeting process which is a huge weakness. The United States is supposed to be the world leader, yet their government has not even been able to agree on a budget half of the time. The one good thing about this budget is that Congress creates a debt limit that the president has to abide by. In theory this limit should help prevent overspending but when the president gets close to the debt limit Congress has an option to raise the debt limit, which they always do. If Congress does not raise the debt limit, the president will have to decide which bills do not get paid. By not being able to pay people for the work they have already complete, it makes the value of the dollar less trustworthy around the world. The debt limit has been ... This can impact the way they learn and the way they view themselves. In the early stages of childhood, children begin to learn how people view each other. The Migration Policy Institute states, Discrimination can have particularly negative ramifications for the development of young children s sense of self and social identity. If people around children communicate distaste for their appearance, language, or cultural values, children internalize negative views of themselves. • 11. Shark Finning Is The Removal Of The Shark Every year there are thousands and millions of sharks dying in the ocean simply, because of a soup? Not a soup that makes you feel or look any younger, nor does it cure a sickness, but because of a delicacy. Sharks are at a high demand mainly in East Asia. Shark Finning is the removal of the shark s fins while they are still alive and throwing the rest of its body back in the ocean where it takes a painful death. Seeing that sharks are on top of the ecosystem, their population is also decreasing. Given the way they are being caught, which is clearly a form of animal cruelty, therefore the practice of shark finning must be banned. The shark fin soup was said to be created in China during the Sung Dynasty (AD 986), where the emperor used the dish as a symbol of class and wealth. While catching sharks were difficult throughout that time, it made the soup even more of a popular delicacy. The soup is a thickened broth made with either chicken or ham broth. The price of each bowl varies from $100 to $1000 depending on the form and elegance of shark fin served. However it is served, it is a symbolic way of showing stature. DNA profiling is the scientific analysis of evidence for crime scene investigation and other legal proceedings. DNA profiling is mostly used by forensic scientists and crime lab technicians. To identify criminals and victims using trace evidence like hair or skin samples. To produce a DNA profile, scientists compare sequences in the genome that vary from person to person. The typical steps in DNA profiling are DNA samples are isolated from the crime scene, suspect, victims, or other evidence. The next selected sequences from each DNA sample are amplified (copied many times) to produce a large sample of DNA fragments. Finally the amplified DNA regions are compared using a gel. All together, these steps provide data about which samples are from the same individual and which sample is unique. DNA profiling can also be used to compare the DNA of a mother, her child, and the purported father can settle a question of paternity. • 14. `` Peace, And Its Nobleness And Holiness And Honor June Jordan, a Caribbean American poet and activist, once explained that poetry in and of itself is a political act, because it involves telling the truth. During World War I, statesmen and politicians propagated the war efforts, asking the men and boys to join the cause and potentially sacrifice their lives for their country. Back in England, war was looked at in the most idealistic light. War was glory. War was honor. War was noble. War was good, and it was right for man to fight. Early in the war, some poets portrayed that rather romanticized version of war. A week later, the soldiers [the general] smiled at are most of em dead (3). The succinctness and simplicity of the poem echoes the ease with which men died in war. So too, Wilfred Owen, renowned war poet and contemporary and mentee of Siegfried Sassoon, replicates his mentor s view on the prolific lose of life in war, asking in his poem, Anthem of Doomed Youth, What passing bells for these who die as cattle? Owen famously stated, My subject is War, and the pity of War. One such pity that he depicts in his poetry is the dismal death of soldiers by the cold and frost rather than the expected magnificent death of soldiers in man to man combat. • 16. Essay On Planned Parenthood Planned parenthood has been a topic of controversy the last couple of years, as people throughout the nation ask whether or not the healthcare organization should be defunded. When video footage was released in 2015 of Planned Parenthood medical officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue to researchers, it seemed likely that federal funds would be revoked as backlash from the public was noted (Welch). Although the nonprofit organization does offer the termination of unplanned pregnancies, the organization offers many more services to women and men, such as free birth control and yearly health checkups backed by medical experts and more than 100 years of research in reproductive health (Planned Parenthood). As many people struggle financially to provide for their families, Planned Parenthood s services are a relief to those who otherwise would not be able to afford healthcare, which is why the organization should not be defunded. There are many people who believe pregnancies are a miracle and a blessing, but too often women become victims of sexual assault, which at times result in unwanted pregnancies (Stewart 1). Despite the fact many women choose to go through with their pregnancies, other women turn to abortions as a solution to leave the traumatic experience in the past. However, not all women who choose to terminate their pregnancies are victims of sexual assault, as many young couples become pregnant and choose this path because they feel they are too young ... • 18. Rhetorical Devices In The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter It is no doubt that even before our time, rhetorical devices were being used in all genres of writing style. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is an immense amount of rhetorical devices being used. These literary works of writing are both set in the early day Massachusetts colony. There are many similarities and differences, rhetorically speaking. Despite the fact that there is a similar use of rhetorical devices there are many differences. Likewise, this play and novel use plenty of rhetorical devices, such as simile and pathos. In the Scarlet Letter and The Crucible both authors use pathos; a quality that brings about pity or sadness. The chief tragic event of old man s life...which lived and died twenty or forty years ago. (Hawthorne, pg. 31). Just as such The Crucible also uses this quality when Giles Corey, who after being seen as a villainous character comes to truth and because of that is executed by being pressed to death. Miller and Hawthorne use pathos in similar ways dealing with death so readers may feel sentiment for the characters. Another rhetorical device used by both authors is Ellipsis. Hawthorne and Miller use this device where they show where words have been left out. (Dictionary.com). In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, he writes, The father of the custom house the patriarch (Hawthorne, pg.26). Hawthorne uses this device to convey to readers more than one idea. Similar to this, in Miller s The Crucible, he also writes, She is transfixed with all the girls, in complete silence, she is open mouthed (Miller, pg.46). The Authors use this device to show the importance and offer the reader more thinking. Another common rhetorical device between these two pieces is Anaphora; the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a successive clause. Miller uses this device in The Crucible to not only exemplify for readers the importance of the dialogue but also the emotion of the characters. I want to open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, Pg. 15). In similar effect Hawthorne also uses this device to exemplify and show the true emotions of characters. with the scarlet token of infamy on her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Cultural And Religious Beliefs And Beliefs Family is something that makes people what they are and supports them in every difficult situation. Cultural and religious beliefs often dictate family structures, and the beliefs of those cultures and religions, especially regarding genders, are then reflected in power dynamics. This happens because cultures manipulate people s perspective of viewing genders because of their religious beliefs. Some families are shaped according to this belief that men are more important and the boys in a family get more privileges and more attention than the girls. Different cultures and their beliefs make the boys and the men look more powerful and cause the girls to think that they are inferior to the boys. In Hmong and in many other households, boys are seen as more important. They are the ones who will carry the family traditions and name to next generation. Girls are seen as someone else s property as they will get married and go to someone else s family and will carry their name and be a part of that family. Girls since childhood are taught that the house they were born in and are raised in is not their actual house. Their house will be where their husband lives. In Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, Anne Fadiman wrote about how a girl s placenta is buried under her parent s bed. • 24. Organizational Changes Within The Public Bodies 1. Introduction With the rapid growth of globalization, organizations face rapid changes like before. This is because globalization has significantly increased the markets as well as the opportunities for more growth and revenue. Campbell and Brown (2015) have opined that in the present scenario of stiff climatic pressure as well as evolving political priorities, organizational changes within the public bodies is gradually increasing the priority. Therefore, it can be stated that organizational is one of the complex processes that have negative as well as positive outcomes and as such it is worth looking at the available evidence so that the process is conducted as efficiently as well as effectively as possible. In this particular task the main focus would be on some of the integral parts of organizational changes and to carry on this particular task, Yahoo has been selected. Therefore, through this research work, the researcher would try to outline as well as discuss the role of diagnosis as well as feedback in the overall process of organizational changes and the ways to achieve that efficiently (Carlson 2015). Apart from that, an analysis would be made to find out whether the feedback is an essential element in an organizational development intervention or not. It has been found that Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo has been in the headlines as she has introduced some of the organizational changes into the corporation. ( Craft Brewer ) The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive, but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as craft can effect perceived quality and flavor. Other countries English programs are a vital site for social and linguistic reproduction, and the inculcation of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and therefore particularly central in processes of linguistic hierarchism (Phillipson 245). In other words, proper education is key when it comes to learning English. ELL students rely on receiving outstanding education in order to contribute to the success of the English speaking world. Without proper education, these students may not be able to keep up with how fast the English language is becoming the standard of the world. They could fall behind along with their country if they do not live up to that standard. EFL programs vary in English speaking countries and consist of different methods of teaching students to learn the language. One of these methods is the dual language method, which consists of learning English alongside a student s native language. This is not always ideal for parents, who advocate English only classes, hoping for a fast track approach. Although English only classes may help with spoken fluency, it has not been proven effective for learning the written aspects of the language (Lynch). The desire for their children to keep up with the English speaking world is behind these parents criticism of the dual language method. However, English is not easy to teach, especially alongside another language. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

KAP study stands for knowledge, attitude and practice study.KAP studies are highly focused evaluations that measure changes in human knowledge, attitudes and practices in response to a specific intervention, usually outreach, demonstration or education (The Duluth Lakeside Neighbourhood KAP Study Karlyn Eckman and Rachel Walker, July 2008). KAP studies are an important tool in the field of public health. They are more cost effective and they also use resources sparingly in comparison to other methods of social research because of their great focus and limitations of scope. Social surveys include a broader range, whereas KAP studies focus only on a particular topic. The emphasis in a KAP study is on: Knowledge: It is the understanding of a particular topic. What does a community know about a certain thing ? Attitude: It means what they feel about a particular thing and the pre conceived notions which they might have about it. Practice: The actions which are displayed as a direct consequence of the knowledge and attitude possessed by the community. Protocol of a KAP research: It consists of a methodology which defines the design of the study, the manner in which it should be conducted and the way to analyse the findings. • 43. The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance Essay The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance The Acts of the Apostles is the geographical and political story of the development of the Christian Church under the impulse of the Holy Spirit. Although many of us may think that the issues of sectarianism are new, the Acts of the Apostles shows clearly religious intolerance over two thousand years ago. In this respect, it is comparable and informative for moral life in the twenty first century. One of the most influential characters in Acts, who is closely linked to the issues of sectarianism, is Peter. However, before I look at his role, the word ... It is obvious that these actions are the most potent expressions of the system, but alongside this type of bold action is an array of smaller, perhaps everyday or semi conscious attitudes, actions and beliefs, which contribute subtly to keeping the sectarianism system in place. Drinking in Roman Catholic bars can seriously damage your health watch where you drink, because I do (A discussion document, cards can be bought on the Shankill road) Sectarianism always involves religion. The involvement may be an historic one that has long been forgotten, but it is this origin that distinguishes it from purely political discrimination. It is impossible to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact role? What persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself perpetrate? And most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? Is he an example which we can portray with the aspects of sectarianism in the modern world today? Peter is an example of somebody we can learn from today, he shows the human abilities that we our self depict, for example we all have beliefs as well as Peter did and in some instances we can act upon these in an unethical way, Peter can be used as an example of someone we can look up to and admire. • 44. Research Paper On Statutory Rape A Lot of people say that age doesn t define maturity but to lawmakers it does. In correlation to this saying comes the statute of Statutory rape. The criminal offense of statutory rape is committed when an adult sexually penetrates a person who, under the law, is incapable of consenting to sex. Even sex that violates the age of consent laws but is neither violent nor physically forced is described as statutory rape. Thus bringing me to the question of should consensual sex be seen as statutory rape or not? Most people have offered several different viewpoints pertaining this specific statute. As I researched the views on my topic it came to me that all sides provide valid reasons supporting their argument on statutory rape laws. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Inequality From Gender Neutral Laws: Why Must Male Victims Of Statutory Rape Pay Child Support For Children Resulting From Their Victimization? By Ruth Jones he argues that this statute does not proceed in being gender neutral. In county of San Luis v Nathaniel J a 34 year old woman had sex with a 15 year old teenager and had a baby all in all still receiving some type of compensation as if she was not the one who committed the wrongful act. Jones says After she gave birth to her daughter, she received Aid for families with Dependent Children (AFDC), and the county sought reimbursement for the AFDC payments from the father . This reveals that her pregnancy caused her to receive money from the child s father to help in taking care of the baby. The author tries to argue with this case study in being that women who are charged within this law hold little to no consequences depicting the gender inequality within the statutory rape statute. Statutory rape is seen more as a masculine law because males are seen for high pressures of intimacy unlike women.Ultimately the author s view on statutory rape laws as unfair and bias. Moreover statutory rape defenses are seemed to be needed more because of the society we live in today. The journal article Reasonable mistake of Age: A Needed Defense to Statutory Rape by Larry W. Myers he explains why having a not having a way to decriminalize yourself is unfair. Therefore Myers complicated things further when he states that statutory rape needs an affirmative defense. In the journal he speaks upon the way a person looks can truly be misleading. Age and bodily appearance are not always correlated with each other. Myers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Contribution Of Gustav Stresemann Gustav Stresemann is a significant person in Germany history from 1923 1929. How far do I agree? Explain your answer. . I agree to this statement to a certaint extent. The reason is because of what he accomplished from 1923 to 1929. You have to consider the weight and impact of what he had accomplished in the years 1923 1929. He ended hyperinflation in Germany. Stresemann got Germany back into the League of Nations. Stresemann increased employment at its lowest. Appointed the Chancellor of Germany in 1923. And is known for many other things. In 1921, Germany had just gotten out of World War 1. And they owed France, Britain, and the United States so much money, due to reparations. They alone had to pay 132 billion gold marks (US$33 billion). And that was required from the Treaty of Versailles, and the 1921 London Schedule of Payments. Of course Germany and her people were furious. They fell behind on the reparations. Then they started to buy foreign currency with marks at any price. That meant that their currency would have to change big time. In the first half of 1922 it took 320 marks to make one dollar. The mark became worth nothing at one point. It was so worthless they either used it as wallpaper, or destroyed it. Since the mark was so worthless they had to end up paying off the reparations by products they make money on. So then France steps in and occupies the Ruhr in January 1923, when they end up falling back on that as well. Then on August 13, 1923 Gustav ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Ideal Woman An Ideal Woman In high school, I was given the task of interviewing someone that lived during the Great Depression. Instantly my grandmother came to my mind. Ruth LaCoste was born in 1930. Unlike my grandfather who was always telling tales, she never spoke of her childhood. I knew she was my ideal of what a woman should be. Until this interview, I did not know how true that was. She can best be summed up by a quote from GB Shaw, Mrs. Warren s Profession 1893, People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can t find them, make them. In short, Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance, independence, and family. She symbolizes my ideal woman. Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance by not being a product of her circumstances. September 8, 1930, Hans and Julia Liner LaCoste delivered there second daughter. Ruth LaCoste is the fourth of seven children. Hans and Julia were uneducated trappers in the bayous of South Louisiana. Spending their summers on Bayou Schaffer. Then moving their houseboat to Deer Island Bayou to trap Nutria during the winter months. Consequently, Ruth knew what it was like to be hungry as a child. In their home it was feast or famine. Sex Abuse And Sex Offenders Sex offenders can be described as a person who has committed any of a variety of offenses, including rape, child abuse, possession of child pornography, exhibitionism (flashing), and even consensual sex amongst teenagers. They can vary between adults or juveniles, male or female, and the perpetrators may even be strangers, acquaintances, or related to their victims. Based on the different characteristics and motivations for committing these heinous offenses, these offenders require different responses that are appropriate in order to accurately treat, manage, and supervise them. This research paper will review types of offenses and offenders; pervasiveness of sexual abuse and recidivism; and responses to sexual offending, including treatment, supervision, and management practices for this population. There is a long history of rape and rape culture. Over the years history has changed the definition of rape because it was too broad and different jurisdictions interpreted it differently to disenfranchise certain victims. Rape is defined by Webster Dictionary as to seize and take away by force. Legal definition of rape is nonconsensual sexual intercourse that is committed by physical force, threat of injury, or other duress. Common law defines rape as unlawful intercourse by a man against a woman who is not his wife, by force or threat and against her will. The new definition states rape as penetration, no matter how slight of the vagina or anus with any body part ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The list of depression sub types can continue but the aforementioned categories are ones that are diagnosed from most to least frequently among cases. Causes There are several factors that may contribute to depression and depending on the individual can be rooted from a single or multiple reasons. If one has a family history of the illness it increases the likelihood to develop it along with environmental influences that also aid in its progress (CITE 2). Also biological issues such as neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain can contribute to depression, for example at the pre and post synapse of a neuronal cell (CITE 2). A pattern of pessimistic thoughts and low self esteem can proliferate the illness, as a study conducted exhibited that affected individuals did not improve perceptions of their depression even after a neurotransmitter imbalance explanation (CITE 4). Gender also plays a role as depression and its symptoms have been observed in women more than in men particularly beginning from adolescence until their mid fifties (CITE 5). It can also occur in conjunction with other illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer s disease and heart disease (CITE 2). • 49. St. Augustine Confessions The confession of St. Augustine instead of taking a purely autobiographical approach seems to be a narration of the significant episodes in which God is revealed to Augustine. Writing at a time when there were no other autobiographies to refer to, the only source that was close to an autobiography was the epistles of Paul. Augustine s confessions borrow a lot from Paul as he tries to decipher the truth in the meaning of the scriptures through relating these scriptures to his own life and journey to Christianity. His is a conversation with a silent partner. While Augustine talks directly to God and not man, God only responds through actions and not words. In this essay, several incidences in the Confessions of Augustine will be analyzed showing how they act as a performative exegesis of Pauline Epistles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tolle lege incidence is seen as an important turning point of Augustine as he turns around his life and converts to Christianity. Paul in this scripture commands the Romans to behave in a decent manner, and not engage in sexual immorality and debauchery. Augustine, in this scripture, was jolted like St. Paul on his way to Damascus. He declared that he would no longer engage in sexual immorality and that he would never marry like St. Paul . As a former student of rhetoric, Augustine did not understand why he had to accept such a blunt command without questioning its logical end. However, the aim of the scripture seemed to be a way of saving him from the evil of rhetoric that he had been so deeply rooted into. As a result, without questioning, the incidence that followed was his baptism by Ambrose to become a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
