Daniel Patrick Moynihan Definition Of Deviant Behavior
labeling someone as a deviant can have any major consequences for the individual who is labeled.
some of those consequences are once a person who has been labeled may start to incorporate the
stigma that goes along with it. this effort happens and can happen when a friend in high school is
drinking underage and by being associated with that person can have yourself labeled as deviant even
if you never commit a deviant act. other problems that come when labeled is being put into a certain
category which people will treat you different, look at you different, and also think that you are going
to commit other deviant acts which means they can not trust you, and you tend to lose respect in
society. Daniel Patrick Moynihan defined deviance as a decline in quilty of life and of formerly
unacceptable activities that are unqualified acceptance and the as we condone such acts we make our
nation worse. Moynihan is relevant to the concept of moral order as being homeless is considered a
deviant act and does not help to bind the larger economic or their communities. ... Show more content

They also believe there is no common shared triats among all deviant acts. The moral code is that the
unwritten code is to help us contribute to the common good. The absolutist perspective on deviance is
believing in natural law which was given to us before humans were made to understand what needs to
be done and what to avoid. some aspects of this definition have relevance as part of this binds certain
areas of the community together in the belief that the activities mentioned are of a deviant

Underground Man Is Plagued By The Proponents Of A Society
Underground Man is plagued by the proponents of a society which thrives on reason and rationality.
The idea that behind every question and thought there lies a calculated and precise answer that is
highly valued in the face of society. The societal expectation of being extraordinarily rational is
referred to as the Palace of Crystal by Underground Man, here there is no room for the five senses
only room for contemplation. Though this level of breadth and rationality correlates with an excess in
consciousness, as one always has to think about things at a level which is unimaginable to most. The
latter leading to not only indecision, but also self doubt, and over analyzation of normally simple
situations. As a side effect of the enlightened mindset of society, Underground Man develops an
excess consciousness in which his pride directly leads to his break with Liza and the consequences
that stem from that break. The intense need of utilitarian societies to codify rational human behavior
results in the ignoring of the complex nature of human beings as seen with Underground Man. The
societal call for the maximization of utility, being useful, profitable or beneficial, invites one to turn to
intense reason and truth in order to discover the right thing. Underground Man developed this severe
nature in which he knew that in order, [...]to understand anything, to see everything and to see it often
incomparably more clearly than our most realistic minds see it; [was] to refuse to

Janet Jackson with herpes Janet Jackson suffered from herpes secretly. Janet was using the name of
her chef ( Macchi Ricardo) to acquire medicine prescription to cover her trails which was illegal.
Macchi Ricardo went to The Los Angeles superior court to a file a complaint in the year 1999. Ricardo
came to realize how his name was sabotaged when he came in contact with a prescription on Janet s
fridge with his name titled on it. He then got a printout from a local pharmacy printed his name with
address of Janet s house at Pacific coast. Dating a partner with Herpes Being in a relationship with
someone infected with herpes can be of a challenge. It is only for the other partner to decide if he/she

Who Is The Most Powerful Greek Women
The Powerful Women of Greek Mythology
Women in Greek Mythology were not portrayed as powerless by any means. They were the opposite
of powerless. I have chosen just a handful of women figures of Greek Mythology. These women range
from the Amazons to Hera, the queen of gods.
The Amazons were fierce female warriors who were believed to be greatly skilled as horse riders, and
with bows, arrows, and swords. The most famous Amazon is Wonder Woman, the princess of
Themiscyra. She was shown to possess all of the skills mentioned above, along with other skills.
These female warriors are now debated as to whether they have ever existed or if they were just a
myth. They were depicted as having been involved in the fall of Troy in the Trojan War. The warriors
are also depicted in the foundation legend of Athens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her parents were Zeus, the king of gods and men, and Leto, the goddess of motherhood and
demureness. She was also an Olympian goddess and twin sister to Apollo. She is known for being
vengeful and unforgiving. It is said after her full growth, along with her brother, she was very much
concerned with avenging her mother due to Hera s casting Leto out of Mount Olympus after she
became pregnant with Artemis and Apollo. There are a few myths where Artemis is shown as
powerful and vengeful. Once, Aktaionas, the son of Autonois and Aristaeus, happened to see Artemis
naked, in the time she was taking her bath. The goddess, fearing that the incident would spread,
transformed him into a deer and put his fifty dogs that accompanied him to devour him (Greek Gods

Stereotypes In Movies
Thanks to actors like Chloë Grace Moretz, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, the young adult teen genre
is alive and well on the big screen. However, this is not a cinematic category that s without its
criticisms as films of this nature tend to cater heavily to a young female demographic.
With that said, is this genre receiving the proverbial bad rap? Should we (and by that I mean anyone
outside the age range of 13 23 years old) be giving these films more attention that they re ultimately
garnering?
Well, the simple answer is as long as it s making money, who honestly cares?
Based on the popular novel (of the same name) by John Green, and directed by Jack Schreier (Robot
Frank), Paper Towns stars Nat Wolff as Quentin Jacobs, a high ... Show more content on

the bunch who enjoys telling tall tales, himself. This character, like Quentin, also pines for the usually

supporting role roughly midway through the film).
While Wolff dominates the screentime and Abrams lands the laughs, its acting newcomer (and British

the film, but she leaves a lasting impression early on which is even more impressive due to the simple

The Food Guide Pyramid Is Good
The food guide pyramid plays an important role in the health education of the majority of people in
the United States. It is meant to guide the general healthy public in how to eat healthy to stay healthy.
It includes a wide variety of foods to provide a healthy range of nutrients that are needed daily. The
food guide pyramid is an excellent way to educate the public on how to eat healthy. The new food
guide pyramid also includes exercise. This is a way to universally educate people. The food guide
pyramid is not a way to cure anything or solve any immediate problems; it is guidelines that help
people to understand what they should be eating. The food guide pyramid is meant for people without

dry beans, eggs, and nuts group, and recommends sparing use of a sixth food group fats, oils, and
sweets. (Davis and Saltos, 1999, p37) This is very close to what has been used since then. In 1988 the
groups were formed into a picture that could show what they were trying to say. A pyramid was chose
with the smallest amount of foods in a group at the top of the pyramid and the largest group at the
bottom of the pyramid. The second editions of the dietary guidelines came out in 1985, the third in
1990, and the fourth in 1995. After 1995 there was a mandate that required that a new edition came
out every 5 years. The guidelines have not changed drastically over the years. (Davis and Saltos,
1999) Furthermore, scientists had found little evidence that a high intake of carbohydrates is
beneficial, since 1992 more and more research has shown that the USDA pyramid is grossly flawed.
By promoting the consumption of all complex carbohydrates and eschewing all fats and oils, the
pyramid provides misleading guidance. In short, not all fats are bad for you, and by no means are all

Biological Structures And Processes Within An Organism...
Human s body is constantly under attack by: bacteria, viruses and many other microorganisms, these
are called pathogens. Our body is a rich source of water and nutrients that these pathogens need to
survive, it is a perfect environment for them to live and develop. Nevertheless, human s body has its
own way to protect itself from these invaders, therefore most of the time we remain healthy. Immune
system is a system of many biological structures and processes within an organism that provides a
defence against disease. There are three major lines of our defence against pathogens. The first is to
prevent their entry by defences of the skin and mucous membranes in the respiratory, digestive and
urogenital tracts. If this fails, two internal defences takes over: an initial non specific inflammatory
response to injury, or if this unsuccessful, is followed by specific immune response. Two major
divisions of the immune response: non specific and specific.
(Rowland, 1992)
Non specific defence attacks any molecule, which the body recognises as being non self and skin is
the first barrier that antigen needs to pass through. The first layer of the skin epidermis, consist of the
layer of dead skin cells that lack of water and suitable food, which inhibits the growth of micro
organisms inside the epidermis. Sebum, secreted by sebaceous gland in the skin, contains fatty acids,
which are toxic to many microorganisms. Areas that are not covered by the skin have alternative

The Communication Accommodation Theory Through...
This paper is going to show insight and inside knowledge of the communication accommodation
theory through convergence, divergence, social identity, and initial orientation. Throughout this paper,
evidence will be shown through these four different elements and four studies on how they play an
enormous role within communication behavior. Research that I have conducted show studies that have
tested and analyzed how participants in each test use these four elements when speaking with a
foreigner. I am going to apply these tests and results to my own experiences when I am speaking with
a foreigner, specifically for when I am in Sweden each summer when I am communicating with
Swedes. Then I will to go through and analyze how I converge, diverge, use initial orientation and
social identity while speaking with a Swede.
I am a dual citizen of Sweden and the United States, I have the privilege to go back to Sweden and
stay there every summer. Since I am not the best Swedish speaker, I am going to apply my experiences
while I am there through the communication accommodation theory, and four significant elements
within that theory; which include convergence, divergence, initial orientation, and social identity. In
this paper, I argue that past studies are not as in depth in analyzing all possible situations such as my
own situation applied through these elements. Especially since applying this to foreigner
communication, there is a twist since all Swedish citizens

Chlorine Is The Single Largest Contributor For Safe...
INTRODUCTION
Chlorine is the single largest contributor to safe drinking water, in the history of public health. In 1902
the first chlorine disinfection system was installed in Belgium. By the 1920 s nearly the whole world
started using the process. Due to this disinfection process many disease causing microorganisms were
abolished. According to Life Magazine (1997)
The filtration of drinking water plus the use of chlorine is probably the most significant public health
advancement of the millennium
As consumers have started to have greater knowledge, they want to know what they re drinking and
how this will affect them in short term and long term. The main concern related to chlorination is the
by products produced. The by products are said to be cancer causing.
CHEMICAL BACKGROUND
Chlorination is used in most Australian capital cities and small water supplies as it is inexpensive, easy
to use and protects water within the pipe system. Treating drinking water involves two processes; the
physical removal and the chemical disinfection. The traditional seven step water processes used
around the globe is Coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, fluoridation and
the storage distribution. (Refer to figure 1)
The main focus for this report is the disinfection section. During the disinfection process different
chlorine products are added to the filtered water to remove harmful microorganisms. When the
disinfectant is added free

The Fools in Twelfth Night Essay
The Fools of Twelfth Night
It is not unusual that the fool should be a prominent figure and make an important contribution in
forming the confusion and the humor in an Elizabethan drama. In William Shakespeare s comedy,
Twelfth Night, Feste the clown is not the only fool who is subject to foolery. He and many other
characters combine their silly acts and wits to invade other characters that either escape reality or live
a dream. In Twelfth Night, Feste, Maria and Sir Toby are the fools that make the comedy work in
many senses.
In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, Feste s role in this Illyrian comedy is significant because Illyria is a
country permeated with the spirit of the Feast of Fools, where identities are ... Show more content on

Although he does not make any profound remarks, he seems to be the wisest person of all the
characters in the comedy. Viola remarks this by saying, This fellow s wise enough to play the fool
(III.i.61). Since Feste is a licensed fool, his main role in Twelfth Night is to speak the truth. This is
where the humor lies, his truthfulness. In one example he proves Olivia to be a true fool by asking her
what she was mourning about. The point Feste tried to make was that Olivia was mourning for a
person whose soul is in heaven.
CLOWN: Good Madonna, why mourn st thou?
OLIVIA: Good Fool, for my brother s death.
CLOWN: I think his soul is in hell, Madonna.
OLIVIA: I know his soul is in heaven, fool.
CLOWN: The more fool, Madonna, to mourn for your brother s soul, being in heaven. Take away the
fool, gentlemen (act #, scene #, line 3).
Adding to the humor of the comedy, Feste dresses up as Sir Topaz, the curate and visits the imprisoned
Malvolio with Maria and Sir Toby. There he uses his humor to abuse Malvolio who is still unaware
that he is actually talking to the clown rather than to the real Sir Topaz. Feste (disguised as Sir Topaz)
calls Malvolio a lunatic (IV.ii.23), Satan (IV.ii.32) and confuses him by wittingly making him a fool.
Throughout the play, Malvolio has always been the person who intentionally spoils the pleasure of
other people. He is Feste s worst nightmare in the play, but in

Operation Oluja Essay
Effects and Results of Oluja
Operation Oluja is the largest military operation in Croatian history, as well as a decisive turning point
in the overall conflict on the territory of former Yugoslavia. With Operation Oluja around 14 % of the
total territory of the Republic of Croatia was liberated. Its ending and results marked the collapse of
the Greater Serbia idea of uniting all Serbian countries in former Yugoslavia and the creation of
Greater Serbia. It changed the strategic force ratio in the region, which directly influenced the bringing
of the Serbs to the negotiating table. It took the change of the strategic situation, which had been
brought about by Croatian military successes, to create the conditions for the implementation of US
led peacekeeping initiatives of USA, Germany, France, Great Britain and Russia , as well as for the
signing of the Dayton Agreement and a complete cessation of military operations in Croatia and BiH.
Operation Oluja inflicted a total defeat on the SVK, while the VRS was de facto on the verge of
collapse. By unblocking the Bihać enclave in western Bosnia, Oluja relieved the forces of the 5th
Corps of ARBiH from the complete encirclement and facilitated its engagement on other territories in

Manipulation In The Last King Of Scotland
The Last King Of Scotland Politics is always an act of manipulation and there may be a dissonance
between the public persona of a leader and the ruthless actuality of their lives. Kevin Macdonald s
2006 political biopic film The Last King of Scotland is based on political and personal events
throughout the narcissistic Adi Amin s despotic, traumatic and destructive rule of Uganda during the
1970s. It shows two different representations of Amin: one that manipulates his public persona as
someone who works for and with the people and the other as someone ruthless who will manipulate
anyone to stay in power. The film is also an act of manipulation as we witness these events through
the perspective of the politically naïve and altruistic eyes of Nick Garrigan. The director aims to
manipulate the audience to see Amin through fresh eyes as we simultaneously witness Amin s
attempts to position the people of Uganda. In the opening sequence we see the main character,

Greenblatt gives a historic overview of the nineteenth century was known as the Victorian period in
the historical development of Great Britain. This era began with the reign of Queen Victoria from
1837 to 1901. The Victorian era is associated with Britain s great age of industrial expansion and
economic progress. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain was mainly a rural society, with
its economy based on agricultural production. With the revolution, society gradually transformed into
a largely urban one with manufacturing being transferred from farms and villages to giant factories

The Oxford English Dictionary, hereby referred to as OED, defines patriarchy as [a] form of social
organization in which the father or oldest male is the head of the family, and descent and relationship
are reckoned through the male line; government or rule by a man or men (OED 2016a). Patriarchal
society stated that women had no physical, social, economic or political power. Women in patriarchal
society were forbidden from the same privileges that men had. Therefore, women were attributed
feminine duties of caring for the home and pursuing the outlets of feminine creativity. Because women
were refused the opportunity to work or take part in the domestic sphere, they spent their youth
preparing for marriage. Maureen Moran in Victorian Literature and Culture, describes how women
relocate their place in society in the political, economic and social aspects. The changes in women s
social role occurred as the important members, they had opened up for professions which were not

Beth has a few options to determine if her baby is at risk for having a genetic disorder. The first step
Beth can take is visiting her gynecologist. While there she can start to discuss her concerns, and go

amniocentesis. If further tests warrant she can do chorionic villus sampling or CVS.
Beth can go through genetic counselling which is where she can discuss her family medical history
and this will determine whether or not her baby is at risk. This is where the counselor takes into
consideration any diseases or problems that run in the family. They then can determine if one of the

Health Economics And Antitrust Literature
Significance of this Study
This essay contributes to health economics and antitrust literature as follows. First, this essay
investigates change in transaction price for cardiac surgery. Instead of using list or average prices, this
analysis adopted the transaction price of care, which is a much more accurate measure for price of
care (Brooks, Dor Wong, 1997; Capps Dranove, 2004; Dor, Grossman Koroukian, 2004; Dor,
Koroukian Grossman, 2004; Dor et al., 2012; Moriya, Vogt Gaynor, 2010). Second, this essay applies
the comprehensive taxonomy of health systems proposed by Bazzoli et al. (1999) to post merger
pricing studies. Existing studies on post merger change in price of care have focused more on the size
of system formation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the revised Statements of Antitrust Enforcement Policy in Health Care, health care
provider arrangements with a sufficient degree of financial and clinical integration are eligible for the
antitrust safety zone (Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission, 1996). However, the FTC
and DOJ have been criticized for not giving clear definitions of clinical integration, and providers
have been puzzled about the adequate level of clinical integration that FTC and DOJ will not view as
illegal, per se (Burke Rosenbaum, 2010; Leibenluft, 2011). Considering a paucity of empirical
literature on appropriate degrees of financial and clinical integration, the findings of this essay can
contribute to the antitrust discussions in health care. 3. Conceptual Framework
Several models of health care pricing exist in the literature, and there are clear trade offs among the
models (Dor, Grossman Koroukian, 2004; Gaynor Town, 2011; Gowrisankaran, Nevo Town, 2013).
These pricing models are summarized in the previous essay. This study chose a modified version of
Dor, Koroukian Grossman (2004), because 1) this model does not require restrictive assumptions; 2)
this model allows more flexible functional forms; 3) this model does not depend on inaccessible data,
including marginal cost of care or profit margin of a hospital. In the conceptual framework of this
study, the price of care is defined as a function of patient characteristics, hospital

The research paper will also include the flaws with authoritarian society rules and the importance of
rebellion if the authoritarian rules affect us negatively. In the story, the head nurse Nurse Ratched has
an authoritarian rule system already established. This system suppresses the patient s freedom; her
rules force them to conform to avoid the consequences if they do not. The protagonist Randle Patrick
McMurphy is a prime example on why should we as in the people rebel against authoritarian laws and
society. If it were not for McMurphy Chief Bromden would have never came to terms with himself or
never of have found his sanity nor Mr. Hardening either. It is important to know our selves and
express ourselves. McMurphy understood that aspect fully before entering the ward. He could not

High Cost Of Higher Education
Many students will soon drop out of college due to the constantly rising cost of higher education.
Research shows that both the two year and four year education system in the U.S. has experienced a
significant increase in college tuition over the last three decades. If this trend is allowed to go on
unchallenged, the likelihood of most students being unable to meet the high cost will be very high in
the coming years as there are already notable signs of this happening. According to education expert
Philips Elliot from the Christian Science Monitor (2013), the tuition cost for students attending the
public two year schools went up by 6% in 2012. This pushed the total cost of attending this program
to nearly $10,000 per year. This rise is estimated to have been 24% over the overall inflation rate. The
same case was replicated in the four year category where the cost of tuition went up by 9%, bringing
the total cost for this program to nearly $27,000 per year. The same costs were witnessed in the private
learning institutions where the cost of attending college went up by an average of 14%. This brought
the total cost to $42,000. The costs were even higher for students who chose to attend college outside
their home states. The official records show that students in this category paid more than $31,000 to
complete a four year program signifying an 11% increase (Elliot, 2013). Stakeholders from the
education sector have given various reasons to justify this increase.

1. What are Native Land Claims?
The native people of Canada were no given equal rights, respect and even importance as that
was given to other people or to the foreigners. The aboriginals of Canada were not liked by
white settlers and it was decided to take their land without showering blood or any type s
riots. The target of Canadian government not only native people but also the immigrants

1991. According to new changes, Indians were removed from their land for constructing
public infrastructure and even some land was taken for making schools for the children.

Personal Narrative-Title Match Between Me And Bruno...
Ironically, the one match I remember best from that three year reign is one that never took place: a
1965 title versus title match between me and Bruno Sammartino. It would have united two of the three
existing titles and made an awful lot of money for everyone involved if it had occurred, and I m sorry
it didn t. The only satisfaction I derive from thinking about it is that I once again and for the final time,
as it turned out repaid Toots Mondt for the way he had treated me and all the boys almost 30 years

The Chernobyl Explosion
Many Russian political heads have claimed, RBMK plants...will never be built again, largely due to
safety concerns of the past and current reactors [10]. As discussed previously the RBMK s had several
reactor features that made it difficult to justify their operation. Most importantly, the reactors
generated excess neutrons during operation which upon further study led to the super criticality that
caused the Chernobyl explosion. While Russia suggests that the explanation of the plants failure was
ultimately only due to the failure to follow safe operations of shutdown procedures, other studies
performed post incident suggest that the reactors were inherently technologically unsafe [11]. The
most significant issue with the RBMK design was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these modifications, the RBMK reactors continue to have problems. One site in particular, the
Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, has had multiple issues in the last few years. In 2013, the graphite
moderator was operating improperly due to deformities and cracks in its graphite moderator core.
These types of moderator failures have the potential to lead to larger problems, such as the ones
identified after the Chernobyl incident. Therefore, the reactor was shut down for an 18 month period
in order to repair the deformed moderator [12]. The 18 month project included research and
experimentation with reactor operating and monitoring procedures, and will lead to the discovered
solutions implementation on all existing RBMK reactors in the future. Despite this solution, the
Leningrad RBMKs shut down again for multiple days in October 2015 due to a minor storm that blew
seaweed into the reactor s water supply intake [13]. The reactor faced no issues except for minor
production delays and its automatic SCRAM procedures went off without issue; however, the fact that
a minor natural occurrence caused a shutdown of the reactor raised eyebrows to the reactors true
safety. It should be noted that water intake caused shutdowns have occurred internationally, yet they
face specific scrutinization when involved with the RBMK reactors [13].

Due to fears of safety, there are many who oppose the maintenance of RBMK reactors, especially at

Teams Are Essential To Success In Both Business And Many
Teams are essential to success in both business and many varied aspects of our personal and
professional life. Proper team development is critical to ensuring that high performance teams, and
understanding the process surrounding team development is critical for managers and leaders. In this
essay, I will discuss the team development process by examining the five stages of team development,
and provide personal examples of each of the stages with advantages and disadvantages in my
personal experiences in a team environment while serving as part of an organizational re design team.
Teams are defined as small groups of individuals with particular skills that work together to achieve
identified goals (Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The team members asked to participate made logical sense as their divisions were critical to
organizational change, and would be directly impacted by the team recommendation. In the same
initial meeting, however, a disadvantage was individuals who were not critical to the project came to
the meeting and attempted to join the team without invitation. This resulted in those individuals being
thanked for their interest, but being told that their participation was not required or desired for the
team. The catalyst for this action was the elimination of non essential team members and the imminent
distraction their interests would impose on the team. This action during the forming stage ensured that
the team was built of the essential members necessary to participate on the team, while ensuring the
team was structured to focus only on the directed goals and objectives of the team. As a leader, I
would ensure that team member recruiting and sourcing is deliberate, and that team member guidance
is specific on who is being sourced to join the team. The second stage of the team development
process is the storming phase. During the storming phase, personal or organizational interests,
agendas, and personalities are introduced into the team (Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2015). During this
phase, tension, hostility, anger, and infighting among the

The Stages Of Cognitive Developmental Theory
Piagets stage theory is also known as the cognitive developmental theory. Constructivist perspective.
No matter the name Piaget believed that children benefit most from concrete experiences or hands on
activities that allow the student to manipulate his or her environment in order to build knowledge
based on interactions with the universe.(Mohammad,2012) Piaget believed knowledge is acquired in a
set of stages. There is 4 stages that knowledge is obtained. The first stage Sensorimotor occurs
approximately between the age of two. Children at this stage develop the idea of Object Permanence.
The idea that an object exists even though they can t see it. In this step children also acquire the ability
of reflexes. In stage two Preoperational stage begins. This usually happens between the age of 2 7.
Children of this age bracket are egocentric and are dominated by perception. (ch.2.4) They believe that
the world exists from their view point. They understand concrete present day stuff but no
understanding of abstract. 7 11 yrs enter the Concrete Operational stage. The logical stage. Children
are able to se different viewpoints. There also good at understanding basic math, and classify objects
by more than one characteristic. (a yellow duck can go in yellow category and the duck category.) The
last stage is known as the Formal Operational Stage. When a child is a 11 years or older they are
finally understanding the concept of abstract thinking. Children

This is appropriate, as both of these stories are aimed at being time capsules for a dying way of life as
a means of cataloguing history. Just as Ishmael explained the art and trivialities of life as a whaler
during the mid 1800 s, Hensley informatively outlines the activities and encounters regularly
experienced by an Alaskan within an Indigenous community. These lifestyles met severe limitations,
such as designating specific and exclusive roles for community members based on their sex (27 42
43); the importance of a cohesive community to promote surviving the open country (19); a lack of
education to enable reading or writing skills (20); and the depravity of the people from basic medical
and dental technologies available in other parts of the world, at the time (57). Gradually, it is
explained how the rest of the world slowly poured into the territories of Alaska around the edges in the
form of incoming trade shipments (65), the advancement of the film industry (62), and the
encroachment of capitalist oil drilling (3).
An informative expression of Iñupiaq culture during the 1900 s, Hensley explains the expectations of
his own tribal circle and how the traditions of his ancestors affected their current perspectives and
ways of life. Frequently, Hensley expresses the importance of stoicism

It seems as though, North Korea used the novel 1984 as a playbook for how to form a new
government, which suffocates its citizens with tyranny and preposterous propaganda. In 1984, George
Orwell depicts a dystopian society called Oceania, ruled by a supposed all knowing dictator named
Big Brother. In the novel, Big Brother seems to have brainwashed almost all of the citizens of
Oceania. Sadly, this seems to ring true in North Korea today. North Korea has redacted parts of 1984
and rewritten their name in place of Big Brother s. Due to the striking resemblance of North Korea to
Oceania, one can infer that North Korea is becoming dangerously close to fulfilling Orwell s warning.

Chemistry is everywhere. The air we breathe, the ground we stand on, the seas we sail, and the variety

These chemicals interact with one another, and, in many cases, these interactions produce new
substances through processes known as chemical reactions. Over time, in high school I have learned

From my research that I have done there is no historical documentation, but the most likely metals are
copper and gold because they are both comparatively easy to find as natural ores, and are both soft
enough to use without forging equipment. Both metals were used by many ancient cultures for jewelry
and decorative uses; copper was also used for simple tools. Copper is perhaps one of the most

Feudalism In The Middle Ages
Feudalism was a very popular social system in the Medieval ages, and provided a give and take
system for both parties. It was a fairly simple system, those of nobility or higher power would give up
some of their land (also called a fief) to the peasants (or serfs) and offered them protection in
exchange for them working the land and being sent out to war when needed. This allowed for both
parties to gain something out of the transaction and was the basis of the relationship between a lord
and a vassal. Although it was a simple system, due to their being so many barons, dukes and earls who
were in theory loyal to the king and his family which could start a fight with the king, vassals could
end up having their land in the middle of a war zone or be given multiple pieces of land by mistake,

Separation Of Church And State In The Middle Ages
Throughout time the relationship between church and state has been changing. Church and state
should have absolute separation. In the middle ages, the pope was essentially the king, and that ended
in drama between popes and actual kings, as well as the line between politics and religion being
blurred. Church should not be involved in state because the church leader is then at significant risk of
devaluing one or the other, and state should not be involved in church as it was during Charlemagne s
time.
In the middle ages the church and the state were very much related. The church was less related to
religion than it was to government. Religion in the middle ages was related to politics, so rather than
the leader of a faith, the pope was more like a king; he supposedly possessed the power to send people
to hell by excommunicating them if they displeased him. The pope was the leader of the church, and
also the leader of essentially everything else; he had the final say in all matters. There was a conflict ...

an official appointed by God through his children to lead his kingdom on earth. God s Holy Bible
clearly states that earth is not God s kingdom; earth is fallen and wicked; the world is the devil s
kingdom. Therefore God s appointed officials should not try to rule Satan s kingdom. This does not
mean, however, that it is sinful to get involved in politics, instead that Ministers and Holy men should

Shakespeare Sonnet 29 Mood
Shakespeare s Sonnet 29 explores the inner mentality of the speaker as he reflects on his hopeless state
of depression to eventually realize that there is something more important than monetary wealth and
social status. The speaker is introspective and reflective in order to convey his epiphany of the
importance of intangible things. Throughout the sonnet, meaning is achieved through the use of
rhythmic structure, changing tone, and imagery. In the first quatrain, iambic pentameter creates an
introductory rhythm to present the speaker in a depressed state. The speaker begins by stating he is in
disgrace with Fortune, meaning he is having bad luck and believes he is unpopular to men s eyes. This
allusion to Dame Fortuna, the goddess of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker uses the word yet to begin this shift into the solution to his internal frustrations. When the
speaker begins to haply think of thee, it serves as a pun for the word happy. Although this new thought
occurs by chance, it is a happy alternative for the saddening thoughts that once occupied his mind.
Shakespeare also uses a simile of a lark arising from sullen earth at the break of day, implying that the
daytime is much happier than night. The day is compared to the dawning thought of his beloved, and
the very idea is like a lark who sings hymns at heaven s gate. The simile uses imagery to create an
uplifting, hopeful tone. The shift in the speaker s thoughts is reflected in the tone, as it changes from
melancholy to optimistic. Similarly, the heroic couplet at the end serves as a resolution to the speaker s
inner conflictions with depression, for he has an epiphany that he would rather be with thee than to
change [his] state with kings. The speaker s remembrance of thy sweet love brings him to this
conclusion. The enjambment of the last two lines creates flow with the speaker s clear thoughts,
allowing him to determine the most important thing in life, rather than monetary wealth or status, with

Adjunction is the exercise of judicial powers use by an agency (retrieved from
http://administrativelaw.uslegal.com/three types of administrative agency action rulemaking

and in many ways could take longer to get regulations passed. Both of these methods have their own
merits, but adjunction is the one that would require more due process , in a given situation. The reason
for this is that it seems rulemaking is more of a formal process, that to get ideas out there and see what
is needed in order to be beneficial to the general public. Adjunction, on the other hand, seems to be
more court based and can take much longer to get things accomplished compared to the rulemaking
process. In the case of the FDA s new regulation seems to fall under the rulemaking process rather
than the adjunction process. The reason for this is that the people that run the FDA saw that there was
a growing concern with tobacco products and the harm that they were doing and wanted to do
something in order to fix this particular issue that is a major concern in this country. Also, the FDA
saw that there old regulations on tobacco products was outdated and needed to make some changes in

evacuated by water. At 8.10pm some 250 bombers resumed the attack which was
maintained until 4.30 on Sunday morning. They caused 9 conflagrations, 59 large
fires, and nearly 1,000 lesser fires. Three main line railway termini were put out
of action, and 430 persons killed and some 1,600 seriously injured. After the fire
brigades had spent all day in an effort to deprive the enemy of illumination, some
200 bombers returned in the evening (Sunday 8th) to carry on the assault. During

Extracurricular Experience In High School
Did you know that having an extracurricular hobby can help high school and college students in
academics? Things such as being engaged in an orchestra, or a club on campus are common; my
hobby has been athletics. I have excelled in athletics all my life and decided to take it to the college
level. I can t describe how much that experience has had an impact on my ability to manage time, my
health, and my success as a student.
If you had something that you loved, something that made you successful, would you want to share it?
I did. I know some awesome athletes in my high school that just needed a little push. They needed a
little more time with a coach, a little more encouragement. I knew I was someone that could do that.
Over the summer, I helped out three young women from my high school with javelin technique and
workout habits they should get into. I met with each of them once or twice a week for practice. Addie
was a very stubborn girl. She wanted to be the best (that includes by beating my high school records).
That is what helped her the most. She would come to practice and then complain the whole time we
ran or did plyometric drills. I thought she was going to quit after the first day, but she didn t. She was
too stubborn to. I m so glad she did because I got to continue to work with her on her fluidity in her
approach and her form. Addie is now headed to Brigham Young University on an athletic scholarship
to throw for them!
Emily met with me only once a week. She is

There Are Many Theoretical Perspectives Used When Examining
There are many theoretical perspectives used when examining the international political system. In
this paper I will explain two of the most important: liberalism and realism. Though they are both
strong theories, liberalism is best when it comes to explaining international politics. Liberalism better
examines all of the influence that impact the decisions made within the international system and better
represents the emotions and personal agendas of the state. Liberalism can be considered a combination
of constructivism and realism. It takes democracy into account and examines the dynamics through all
3 levels of analysis. The downfall of liberalism is it feels like a westernized approach to international
politics, so it might hurt a less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This developed into a hegemonic system where the United States was unipolar therefore had the most
power. This allows the United States to have lots of global influence and control over state security. It
is ideal for a realist because they focus on power and security and a unipolar system maximizes both
of those traits. This mindset develops into an expansionist ideology, because the more territory that the
state has influence in, then the more power and security they hold.
When it comes to a realist s perspective on the Iraq war, most would say that the attack was justified.
Many offensive realists would say that Iraq posed a security threat to the United States therefore it was
necessary to take action. On a state level analysis a realist would think that Iraq was getting
progressively more aggressive, but was not consistently destructive toward the United States, on an
international level a realist would see the building of arms as a security threat. Today some defensive
realists might disagree with offensive and say that by intervening in Iraq it divided the United States
attention, and has hurt it over the years in influence, because it has used up money and resources. This
would be the difference between and offensive and a defensive realist. Either way, any realist can
agree that it was the United States unitary choice alone to go into Iraq and

This company had chosen to operate their production based on product oriented layout. On the other
hand, the company is running the same sequential of production process for every product that been
produced by the company for example cream roll and loaf buns. As mentioned by the presenter,
indirectly, we can see that they are targeting on low volume for each of the products but high variety
in all products whereby it is called as the product focused process.
Based on the layout strategy that has been used, there are certain requirements that have to be met by
the High 5 Company. For an example, they are in needed to have a specific amount of production
quantities, of which any increasing in demand of a particular product would lead to expanding of

Alice In Wonderland Schizophrenia Analysis
When watching, Alice in Wonderland as a child of course I didn t know what Schizophrenia was,
therefore I didn t recognize or look for this in the character of Alice. After doing research and re
watching the film, it became clearer to me that Alice does in fact show symptoms of Schizophrenia.
What exactly is schizophrenia? As stated in the class lecture slides, it is a neurodevelopmental
disorder of the brain that is expressed in abnormal mental functions and disturbed behavior. Some of
the symptoms include; hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, slow thinking, disorganized speech,
significant impairment in functioning, etc. In this essay, I will be discussing Schizophrenia in Alice s
character, hence the fact I will be describing her symptoms, causes, outcomes, etc. There are many
different factors that play a role in the disorder of Schizophrenia. At the beginning of the movie, Alice
in Wonderland we find out that Alice s father has passed away. With this being said, this could have
been an environmental factor that played a role in Alice s coming of Schizophrenia. As talked about in
lecture, personal tragedies experienced by families are one of these environmental factors and fits into
what happened with Alice and her family.
Alice has been having continuous nightmares that consist of the same activity; falling into a rabbit
hole. After doing research, I found that this is a part of another disorder; Dream Anxiety Disorder
(DAD). DAD is the reoccurring nightmares

Gladiator, by Ridley Scott
Who doesn t love a movie where the protagonist is off on a quest for revenge in numerous action
sequences for his taste of sweet, sweet revenge? When breaking films into this type of category, one
film that stands out among the rest has to be Gladiator. Gladiator can be argued as one of the greatest
action movies of all time, and for good reasons. The soundtrack, dialogue, and characters have no
equal in the revenge action category of film, and can be considered tops of pure action films. Gladiator
is a perfectly well rounded movie that adds the best of all worlds to create the masterpiece seen today.
Ridley Scott s masterpiece, Gladiator, was released to the public in 2000. Received with initial success
and regarded as one of the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soundtrack has received critical acclaim from numerous reviews and was a best seller, selling
millions of copies of the soundtrack alone to anxious listeners. The songs helped set the pace of the
movie and made a good movie into an excellent movie. Some of the favorite songs from the
soundtrack include The Battle, Elysium, and the favorite Now We Are Free. Mixing a combination of
soft melodies and ballads, with battle waltzes, the soundtrack covered all ground and provides future
composers the groundwork for future war epics. While Hans Zimmer gets most of the credit and
praise for Gladiator s score, he could not do it alone without Lisa Gerrard, who co composed the score
and provided the vocals. This soundtrack was so well received that it was nominated for an Academy
Award and a BAFTAAward for best score, and won a Golden Globe for best original score. Compared
to other action films, Gladiator is hard to top. As a reviewer of the soundtrack, Roko Zaper, said
Gladiator, By the very nature of the film itself, the score to Gladiator is perhaps hard to grasp for
some, but in it Zimmer and Gerrard have created a score that transgresses its genre and brings the
music into an unforgettable arena, an Elysium of drama if you will. As Zaper said, Gladiator separates
and goes past any other action soundtrack. Gladiator s soundtrack

School Experience In High School
As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that
followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line
everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices
commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to
conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on
everyone s mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the
luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry go rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes,
the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a
wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching
chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild,
uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running
competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no
cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A time to appreciate being
with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured recess. Years ago we did not
comprehend that this type of interaction actually aids the human body with development of social,
mental,

A Structural and Vocabulary Analysis of John Donne s The Flea
In his poem The Flea , John Donne shows his mastery in creating a work in which the form and the
vocabulary have deliberately overlapping significance. The poem can be analyzed for the prominence
of threes that form layers of multiple meanings within its three stanzas. In each of the three stanzas,
key words can be examined to show (through the use of the OED) how Donne brilliantly chose them
because of the various connotations they had to his audience. Finally, each of the three stanzas
contains completely different moods that reflect the speaker s emotions as the situation changes.
Upon knowing some of John Donne s personal history, especially of his eventual high ... Show more

According to the OED, anything that caused surprise or alarm was referred to as a flea. Another
common usage for the word flea was as an adjective. Something was like a flea if it was small and
contemptible. The third relevance was as a popular phrase saying that there was a flea in one s ear.
The OED definition of this saying is, stinging or mortifying reproof, rebuff, or repulse, which sends
one away discomfited. It is easy to see the evolution of the word flea to the verb, to flee.
The second stanza can be summed up by the word jet. Jet also has several layers of meaning. Donne
writes, Though parents grudge, and you, we are met,/
And cloistered in these living walls of jet. The speaker is trying to convince a lady to have an illicit
tryst with him, and this line shows that he is being sneaky and sly because they are somewhere dark
and secretive. Jet literally means black and shiny, just like a flea, but according to the OED, it also
represents an action. A jet is a sudden, darting movement and the speaker actually makes a jet towards
the lady. It is in this stanza that he makes his most ambitious argument to the lady, and because this is
obviously a sexual proposition, Donne s clever word selection reveals why the third meaning of jet is
especially relevant. Jet also has a phallic/male connotation as the root of the word jetty (an

Mount Hood Is Oregon s Highest Peak
Volcanoes are one of the most destructive, yet, most beautiful things on Earth. They can make a
famous city choke in its own ashes in one day, like Pompeii. Or they can turn a once damaging
mountain into a graceful and peaceful home for new life, like Mount St. Helen s. All volcanoes are
unique, and no two are the same. Some erupt differently than others, some look different than others,
and all are located in different spots all over the world. I learned this while completing the project and
the five volcanoes I researched are examples of my discoveries. The five volcanoes I researched were
Mount Hood, Mount Mageik, Long Island, Mount Muria, and Las Pilas.
Mount Hood is Oregon s highest peak. It stands at 3,425 meters in height and its base spans over an
area of 92 square miles. Mount Hood is located in North America in the country of the Untied States
of America in the state of Oregon. Its exact location in Latitude and Longitude is 45.374 N, 121.695
W. Mt. Hood is a Strato Volcano, which means when it erupts, it is most likely going to have an
explosive or effusive eruption. Currently, Mount Hood is dormant, but volcanologists have confirmed
that it has erupted at least 5 times in the past. The date of its last eruption was 1866 CE. Mount Hood
is also the 2nd most climbed mountain on the Earth, after Japan s Mt. Fujiyama. The first wedding
held on Mount Hood was in July, 1915 joining Blanche Pechette and Frank Pearce. Mount Mageik is a

  • 2. Daniel Patrick Moynihan Definition Of Deviant Behavior labeling someone as a deviant can have any major consequences for the individual who is labeled. some of those consequences are once a person who has been labeled may start to incorporate the stigma that goes along with it. this effort happens and can happen when a friend in high school is drinking underage and by being associated with that person can have yourself labeled as deviant even if you never commit a deviant act. other problems that come when labeled is being put into a certain category which people will treat you different, look at you different, and also think that you are going to commit other deviant acts which means they can not trust you, and you tend to lose respect in society. Daniel Patrick Moynihan defined deviance as a decline in quilty of life and of formerly unacceptable activities that are unqualified acceptance and the as we condone such acts we make our nation worse. The idea that behind every question and thought there lies a calculated and precise answer that is highly valued in the face of society. The societal expectation of being extraordinarily rational is referred to as the Palace of Crystal by Underground Man, here there is no room for the five senses only room for contemplation. Though this level of breadth and rationality correlates with an excess in consciousness, as one always has to think about things at a level which is unimaginable to most. The latter leading to not only indecision, but also self doubt, and over analyzation of normally simple situations. As a side effect of the enlightened mindset of society, Underground Man develops an excess consciousness in which his pride directly leads to his break with Liza and the consequences that stem from that break. The intense need of utilitarian societies to codify rational human behavior results in the ignoring of the complex nature of human beings as seen with Underground Man. The societal call for the maximization of utility, being useful, profitable or beneficial, invites one to turn to intense reason and truth in order to discover the right thing. Underground Man developed this severe nature in which he knew that in order, [...]to understand anything, to see everything and to see it often incomparably more clearly than our most realistic minds see it; [was] to refuse to ... I have chosen just a handful of women figures of Greek Mythology. These women range from the Amazons to Hera, the queen of gods. The Amazons were fierce female warriors who were believed to be greatly skilled as horse riders, and with bows, arrows, and swords. The most famous Amazon is Wonder Woman, the princess of Themiscyra. She was shown to possess all of the skills mentioned above, along with other skills. These female warriors are now debated as to whether they have ever existed or if they were just a myth. With that said, is this genre receiving the proverbial bad rap? Our body is a rich source of water and nutrients that these pathogens need to survive, it is a perfect environment for them to live and develop. Nevertheless, human s body has its own way to protect itself from these invaders, therefore most of the time we remain healthy. Immune system is a system of many biological structures and processes within an organism that provides a defence against disease. There are three major lines of our defence against pathogens. The first is to prevent their entry by defences of the skin and mucous membranes in the respiratory, digestive and urogenital tracts. If this fails, two internal defences takes over: an initial non specific inflammatory response to injury, or if this unsuccessful, is followed by specific immune response. Two major divisions of the immune response: non specific and specific. (Rowland, 1992) Non specific defence attacks any molecule, which the body recognises as being non self and skin is the first barrier that antigen needs to pass through. The first layer of the skin epidermis, consist of the layer of dead skin cells that lack of water and suitable food, which inhibits the growth of micro organisms inside the epidermis. In 1902 the first chlorine disinfection system was installed in Belgium. By the 1920 s nearly the whole world started using the process. Due to this disinfection process many disease causing microorganisms were abolished. According to Life Magazine (1997) The filtration of drinking water plus the use of chlorine is probably the most significant public health advancement of the millennium As consumers have started to have greater knowledge, they want to know what they re drinking and how this will affect them in short term and long term. The main concern related to chlorination is the by products produced. The by products are said to be cancer causing. CHEMICAL BACKGROUND Chlorination is used in most Australian capital cities and small water supplies as it is inexpensive, easy to use and protects water within the pipe system. The traditional seven step water processes used around the globe is Coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, fluoridation and the storage distribution. Viola remarks this by saying, This fellow s wise enough to play the fool (III.i.61). Since Feste is a licensed fool, his main role in Twelfth Night is to speak the truth. This is where the humor lies, his truthfulness. In one example he proves Olivia to be a true fool by asking her what she was mourning about. The point Feste tried to make was that Olivia was mourning for a person whose soul is in heaven. CLOWN: Good Madonna, why mourn st thou? OLIVIA: Good Fool, for my brother s death. There he uses his humor to abuse Malvolio who is still unaware that he is actually talking to the clown rather than to the real Sir Topaz. Feste (disguised as Sir Topaz) calls Malvolio a lunatic (IV.ii.23), Satan (IV.ii.32) and confuses him by wittingly making him a fool. Operation Oluja Essay Effects and Results of Oluja Operation Oluja is the largest military operation in Croatian history, as well as a decisive turning point in the overall conflict on the territory of former Yugoslavia. Its ending and results marked the collapse of the Greater Serbia idea of uniting all Serbian countries in former Yugoslavia and the creation of Greater Serbia. It changed the strategic force ratio in the region, which directly influenced the bringing of the Serbs to the negotiating table. Manipulation In The Last King Of Scotland The Last King Of Scotland Politics is always an act of manipulation and there may be a dissonance between the public persona of a leader and the ruthless actuality of their lives. It shows two different representations of Amin: one that manipulates his public persona as someone who works for and with the people and the other as someone ruthless who will manipulate anyone to stay in power. According to the revised Statements of Antitrust Enforcement Policy in Health Care, health care provider arrangements with a sufficient degree of financial and clinical integration are eligible for the antitrust safety zone (Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission, 1996). However, the FTC and DOJ have been criticized for not giving clear definitions of clinical integration, and providers have been puzzled about the adequate level of clinical integration that FTC and DOJ will not view as illegal, per se (Burke Rosenbaum, 2010; Leibenluft, 2011). Considering a paucity of empirical literature on appropriate degrees of financial and clinical integration, the findings of this essay can contribute to the antitrust discussions in health care. 3. Research shows that both the two year and four year education system in the U.S. has experienced a significant increase in college tuition over the last three decades. If this trend is allowed to go on unchallenged, the likelihood of most students being unable to meet the high cost will be very high in the coming years as there are already notable signs of this happening. According to education expert Philips Elliot from the Christian Science Monitor (2013), the tuition cost for students attending the public two year schools went up by 6% in 2012. This pushed the total cost of attending this program to nearly $10,000 per year. This rise is estimated to have been 24% over the overall inflation rate. The same case was replicated in the four year category where the cost of tuition went up by 9%, bringing the total cost for this program to nearly $27,000 per year. The same costs were witnessed in the private learning institutions where the cost of attending college went up by an average of 14%. This brought the total cost to $42,000. As discussed previously the RBMK s had several reactor features that made it difficult to justify their operation. Most importantly, the reactors generated excess neutrons during operation which upon further study led to the super criticality that caused the Chernobyl explosion. These types of moderator failures have the potential to lead to larger problems, such as the ones identified after the Chernobyl incident. Therefore, the reactor was shut down for an 18 month period in order to repair the deformed moderator [12]. Proper team development is critical to ensuring that high performance teams, and understanding the process surrounding team development is critical for managers and leaders. In this essay, I will discuss the team development process by examining the five stages of team development, and provide personal examples of each of the stages with advantages and disadvantages in my personal experiences in a team environment while serving as part of an organizational re design team. In the same initial meeting, however, a disadvantage was individuals who were not critical to the project came to the meeting and attempted to join the team without invitation. This resulted in those individuals being thanked for their interest, but being told that their participation was not required or desired for the team. The catalyst for this action was the elimination of non essential team members and the imminent distraction their interests would impose on the team. This action during the forming stage ensured that the team was built of the essential members necessary to participate on the team, while ensuring the team was structured to focus only on the directed goals and objectives of the team. As a leader, I would ensure that team member recruiting and sourcing is deliberate, and that team member guidance is specific on who is being sourced to join the team. The second stage of the team development process is the storming phase. Although it was a simple system, due to their being so many barons, dukes and earls who were in theory loyal to the king and his family which could start a fight with the king, vassals could end up having their land in the middle of a war zone or be given multiple pieces of land by mistake, which would confuse the contract. In the middle ages, the pope was essentially the king, and that ended in drama between popes and actual kings, as well as the line between politics and religion being blurred. Church should not be involved in state because the church leader is then at significant risk of devaluing one or the other, and state should not be involved in church as it was during Charlemagne s time. In the middle ages the church and the state were very much related. The church was less related to religion than it was to government. Religion in the middle ages was related to politics, so rather than the leader of a faith, the pope was more like a king; he supposedly possessed the power to send people to hell by excommunicating them if they displeased him. Things such as being engaged in an orchestra, or a club on campus are common; my hobby has been athletics. I have excelled in athletics all my life and decided to take it to the college level. I can t describe how much that experience has had an impact on my ability to manage time, my health, and my success as a student. If you had something that you loved, something that made you successful, would you want to share it? I did. I know some awesome athletes in my high school that just needed a little push. They needed a little more time with a coach, a little more encouragement. I knew I was someone that could do that. Over the summer, I helped out three young women from my high school with javelin technique and workout habits they should get into. I met with each of them once or twice a week for practice. Addie was a very stubborn girl. She wanted to be the best (that includes by beating my high school records). That is what helped her the most. She would come to practice and then complain the whole time we ran or did plyometric drills. I thought she was going to quit after the first day, but she didn t. She was too stubborn to. I m so glad she did because I got to continue to work with her on her fluidity in her approach and her form. Addie is now headed to Brigham Young University on an athletic scholarship to throw for them! Emily met with me only once a week. She is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. There Are Many Theoretical Perspectives Used When Examining There are many theoretical perspectives used when examining the international political system. In this paper I will explain two of the most important: liberalism and realism. Though they are both strong theories, liberalism is best when it comes to explaining international politics. Liberalism better examines all of the influence that impact the decisions made within the international system and better represents the emotions and personal agendas of the state. Liberalism can be considered a combination of constructivism and realism. It takes democracy into account and examines the dynamics through all 3 levels of analysis. The downfall of liberalism is it feels like a westernized approach to international politics, so it might hurt a less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This developed into a hegemonic system where the United States was unipolar therefore had the most power. This allows the United States to have lots of global influence and control over state security. It is ideal for a realist because they focus on power and security and a unipolar system maximizes both of those traits. This mindset develops into an expansionist ideology, because the more territory that the state has influence in, then the more power and security they hold. When it comes to a realist s perspective on the Iraq war, most would say that the attack was justified. Many offensive realists would say that Iraq posed a security threat to the United States therefore it was necessary to take action. On a state level analysis a realist would think that Iraq was getting progressively more aggressive, but was not consistently destructive toward the United States, on an international level a realist would see the building of arms as a security threat. Today some defensive realists might disagree with offensive and say that by intervening in Iraq it divided the United States attention, and has hurt it over the years in influence, because it has used up money and resources. This would be the difference between and offensive and a defensive realist. Either way, any realist can agree that it was the United States unitary choice alone to go into Iraq and ... • 45. Alice In Wonderland Schizophrenia Analysis When watching, Alice in Wonderland as a child of course I didn t know what Schizophrenia was, therefore I didn t recognize or look for this in the character of Alice. After doing research and re watching the film, it became clearer to me that Alice does in fact show symptoms of Schizophrenia. What exactly is schizophrenia? As stated in the class lecture slides, it is a neurodevelopmental disorder of the brain that is expressed in abnormal mental functions and disturbed behavior. Some of the symptoms include; hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, slow thinking, disorganized speech, significant impairment in functioning, etc. In this essay, I will be discussing Schizophrenia in Alice s character, hence the fact I will be describing her symptoms, causes, outcomes, etc. There are many different factors that play a role in the disorder of Schizophrenia. At the beginning of the movie, Alice in Wonderland we find out that Alice s father has passed away. With this being said, this could have been an environmental factor that played a role in Alice s coming of Schizophrenia. As talked about in lecture, personal tragedies experienced by families are one of these environmental factors and fits into what happened with Alice and her family. Alice has been having continuous nightmares that consist of the same activity; falling into a rabbit hole. After doing research, I found that this is a part of another disorder; Dream Anxiety Disorder (DAD). DAD is the reoccurring nightmares ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Gladiator, by Ridley Scott Who doesn t love a movie where the protagonist is off on a quest for revenge in numerous action sequences for his taste of sweet, sweet revenge? When breaking films into this type of category, one film that stands out among the rest has to be Gladiator. Gladiator can be argued as one of the greatest action movies of all time, and for good reasons. The soundtrack, dialogue, and characters have no equal in the revenge action category of film, and can be considered tops of pure action films. Gladiator is a perfectly well rounded movie that adds the best of all worlds to create the masterpiece seen today. Ridley Scott s masterpiece, Gladiator, was released to the public in 2000. Received with initial success and regarded as one of the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soundtrack has received critical acclaim from numerous reviews and was a best seller, selling millions of copies of the soundtrack alone to anxious listeners. The songs helped set the pace of the movie and made a good movie into an excellent movie. Some of the favorite songs from the soundtrack include The Battle, Elysium, and the favorite Now We Are Free. Mixing a combination of soft melodies and ballads, with battle waltzes, the soundtrack covered all ground and provides future composers the groundwork for future war epics. While Hans Zimmer gets most of the credit and praise for Gladiator s score, he could not do it alone without Lisa Gerrard, who co composed the score and provided the vocals. This soundtrack was so well received that it was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTAAward for best score, and won a Golden Globe for best original score. Compared to other action films, Gladiator is hard to top. As a reviewer of the soundtrack, Roko Zaper, said Gladiator, By the very nature of the film itself, the score to Gladiator is perhaps hard to grasp for some, but in it Zimmer and Gerrard have created a score that transgresses its genre and brings the music into an unforgettable arena, an Elysium of drama if you will. As Zaper said, Gladiator separates and goes past any other action soundtrack. Gladiator s soundtrack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. School Experience In High School As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Would be the question on everyone s mind. Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the luxurious field full of dandelions? Or the merry go rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes, the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler. A time to enjoy being a kid. A time to appreciate being with friends. A measure of time with limited restrictions unstructured recess. Years ago we did not comprehend that this type of interaction actually aids the human body with development of social, mental, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. A Structural and Vocabulary Analysis of John Donne s The... A Structural and Vocabulary Analysis of John Donne s The Flea In his poem The Flea , John Donne shows his mastery in creating a work in which the form and the vocabulary have deliberately overlapping significance. The poem can be analyzed for the prominence of threes that form layers of multiple meanings within its three stanzas. In each of the three stanzas, key words can be examined to show (through the use of the OED) how Donne brilliantly chose them because of the various connotations they had to his audience. Finally, each of the three stanzas contains completely different moods that reflect the speaker s emotions as the situation changes. Upon knowing some of John Donne s personal history, especially of his eventual high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the OED, anything that caused surprise or alarm was referred to as a flea. Another common usage for the word flea was as an adjective. Something was like a flea if it was small and contemptible. The third relevance was as a popular phrase saying that there was a flea in one s ear. The OED definition of this saying is, stinging or mortifying reproof, rebuff, or repulse, which sends one away discomfited. It is easy to see the evolution of the word flea to the verb, to flee. The second stanza can be summed up by the word jet. Jet also has several layers of meaning. Donne writes, Though parents grudge, and you, we are met,/ And cloistered in these living walls of jet. The speaker is trying to convince a lady to have an illicit tryst with him, and this line shows that he is being sneaky and sly because they are somewhere dark and secretive. Jet literally means black and shiny, just like a flea, but according to the OED, it also represents an action. A jet is a sudden, darting movement and the speaker actually makes a jet towards the lady. It is in this stanza that he makes his most ambitious argument to the lady, and because this is obviously a sexual proposition, Donne s clever word selection reveals why the third meaning of jet is especially relevant. Jet also has a phallic/male connotation as the root of the word jetty (an outcropping of rocks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Mount Hood Is Oregon s Highest Peak Volcanoes are one of the most destructive, yet, most beautiful things on Earth. They can make a famous city choke in its own ashes in one day, like Pompeii. Or they can turn a once damaging mountain into a graceful and peaceful home for new life, like Mount St. Helen s. All volcanoes are unique, and no two are the same. Some erupt differently than others, some look different than others, and all are located in different spots all over the world. I learned this while completing the project and the five volcanoes I researched are examples of my discoveries. The five volcanoes I researched were Mount Hood, Mount Mageik, Long Island, Mount Muria, and Las Pilas. Mount Hood is Oregon s highest peak. It stands at 3,425 meters in height and its base spans over an area of 92 square miles. Mount Hood is located in North America in the country of the Untied States of America in the state of Oregon. Its exact location in Latitude and Longitude is 45.374 N, 121.695 W. Mt. Hood is a Strato Volcano, which means when it erupts, it is most likely going to have an explosive or effusive eruption. Currently, Mount Hood is dormant, but volcanologists have confirmed that it has erupted at least 5 times in the past. The date of its last eruption was 1866 CE. Mount Hood is also the 2nd most climbed mountain on the Earth, after Japan s Mt. Fujiyama. The first wedding held on Mount Hood was in July, 1915 joining Blanche Pechette and Frank Pearce.
