Federal Deposit Insurance Act Essay
When Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president, he wanted to stimulate the United States
Economy and give relief to the United States citizens. The American people feared that Roosevelt
would abandon the gold standard and reduce the value of the dollar to fight the Depression. By the day
of Roosevelt s inauguration, most of the nation s banks were closed. One in four workers were
unemployed. To try to fix the United States Economy Roosevelt and his advisers came into the office
bursting with ideas about how to end the Depression. Roosevelt sent bill after bill to Congress.
Between March 9 and June 16, 1933, Congress had passed 15 major acts to resolve the economic
crisis. These programs made up what the New Deal.

The creation of the FDIC increased public confidence in the banking system. The FDIC is an
independent U.S. government corporation created under authority of the Banking Act of 1933 (also
known as the Glass Steagall Act), with the responsibility to insure bank deposits in eligible banks
against loss in the event of a bank failure and to regulate certain banking practices. It was established
after the collapse of many American banks during the initial years of the Great Depression. Although
earlier state sponsored plans to insure depositors had not succeeded, the FDIC became a permanent
government agency through the Banking Act of 1935. The corporation is authorized to insure bank
deposits in eligible banks up to a specified maximum amount that has been adjusted through the years.
Having begun in 1934 with deposit insurance of $5,000 per account, in 1980 the FDIC had raised that
amount to $100,000 for each deposit. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is still active in

Chamberlin Case Study
The infamous Chamberlin case tells us the attitudes towards crime during the 1980s because this case
was based on the attitudes of society which led to the false imprisonment of a mother who had lost her
child. This case reveals societies attitudes through the opinions of the vast majority on the rareness of
the crime, their understanding of culture and ability to consider facts rather than be influenced by the
media.
This case shocked the nation due to its rarity, in the eyes of the public the idea of a dingo taking a
baby was thought to be ludicrous in comparison to the mother killing her own child. The publics
attitudes towards this crime where of outrage as they saw the Dingo took my baby plea as a cover up
for a murder committed by the mother. So much so that the term become a joke and was ridiculed, it is
still evident in pop culture today in shows such as Seinfeld and the Simpsons. Ian Banker the
prosecution barrister for the case, commented that it must have been a, man eating dingo [that] raided
the cent like a tiger in an Indian village, therefore exhibiting that mockery was enacted by
professionals to question Lindy s character, causing the public to conclude that murdering the child
was the most logical explanation. During the 1980s common conversation and comments like, dingo s
don t behave like that....they can t carry that weight were made, this reveals that the public
legitimately thought that Lindy had committed the crime. Eyewitnesses that gave an

How Does The Influence Of Hip Hop And Rap Music
Music has come a long way and everybody dances, listens, and sings to what we call music. In the
past few years mainstream music has been overtaken by hip hop and rap music. Although they have
been criticized a lot for its sexual lyrics and violent themes. People feel that that hip hop music has a
focus on sexually based themes and others feel that rap promotes violence against police officers and
innocent citizens. Artists are still making music that promotes neither of these ideas, but more neutral
and family and friendly themes. The last few years music has shown great styles, themes, and personal
taste.
Hip hop is accopinied by usher, Justin Timberlake, and similar artists. Popularity has been boosted in
the last couple of years by names like Kanye West, Jay Z, Outkast, and Eminem. Many of are a
combination of hip hop rap which makes an enjoyable rhythm with rap style lyrics. Kanye West was a
breakthrough artist who helped to revolutionize this style and has become a household name across
the nation. Hip hop is one of the most popular styles in the last decade. Other genres have used the
style to achieve a great deal of popularity, too.
Groups such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park have also contributed great musical combination.

The Cost Versus Return Trade Off
CONTEXT
The only thing I ever thought to be in life was to build a business like my father and take it to new
heights. For this reason I have an inclination towards my father s business. So I thought I should make
full use of my MBA and apply the models and concepts I am learning here to our own business.
So the problem I have chosen for my DMD Term Paper is to make optimum utilization of the
resources and get the maximum returns on the money we are investing in our business. The case will
help me determine and understand the cost versus return trade off. The case will help us realise that
what are the maximum benefits we could reap out of our business if we utilise our resources to an
optimal rate. There is a constraint on the costs as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our company manufactures four different formulations of drugs of the same brand name and in the
final part of the manufacturing process there are three major operations namely mixing of salts,
pelletizing and packing and packaging of drugs into strips. For each variant the time required for these
operations is shown below (in minutes) as is the profit per strip sold.
Product Mixing of Salts(min) Pelletizing
(min) Packaging
(min) Profit per product strip(min)
A 2 3 2 1.5
B 4 2 3 2.5
C 3 3 2 3
D 7 4 5 4.5
 As per the current scenario of the labour working in our company, we estimate that, each year, we
have 1,00,000 minutes of mixing, 50,000 minutes of pelletizing time and 60,000 minutes of packaging
time available. How many of each variant should our company make per year and what is the
associated profit?
 Suppose now that we are free to decide how much time to devote to each of the three operations
within the total allowable time. How many of each variant should we make per year and what will be
the associated profit?
Now simply solving the question using common sense: xi be the number of units of product variant i
(i=A,B,C,D) made per year
Tmix be the number of minutes used in mixing per year
Tpel be the number of minutes used in pelletizing per year
Tpac be the number of minutes used in packaging per year
Where xi = 0, i=A,B,C,D and
Tmix, Tpel, Tpac = 0

Statutory and Non-Statutory Public Services
A public service is a service that is funded by the government or by donations to help the government
deliver its actions as effectively as possible. There are two types of public services they are statutory
and non statutory services. The difference between a statutory and a non statutory service is that a
statutory service is paid by tax payers, funded by the government and is set up by the law. They are
usually uniformed and highly professional an example would be the Emergency Services and the
Armed Forces. A non statutory service is a service that doesn t receive a lot of government funding so
they are paid by members or the public as they are registered as charities, they are set up by
individuals and not parliament and unlike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of an emergency service is the Fire and Rescue service. They work with the public
in many ways; one way is to make house calls to the elderly to make sure that they have the necessary
equipment like fire alarms to ensure safety in the home. Another form of support that the fire service
provides to the public is they have youth schemes an example of this the Safe Drive Stay Alive
program that they run for secondary schools and colleges. These youth schemes also allow members
of the fire service to go into schools and youth groups and talk to them about the dangers of fires and
how they can be prevented. Non statutory services may not be put there by law but they still play a
vital role in helping the community and statutory public services. An example is Help for Heroes
although they are for ex service personal they help support the families of the wounded. They provide
individual support to soldiers and their families, recovery centres like Headley court (rehabilitation
centre) and Fisher house (a home for wounded patients and their families), sports recovery which
helps the service personal regain confidence and independence. They may not visibly help the
community but they give the opportunity to get people of the public involved and help out

Stories Behind Three Names Essay
Thirty Stories Behind Three Names
My name has been around for twenty years. Yeah sure, each part of my name has been around for who
knows how long, but when you put them all together it becomes an original and only been around for
the twenty years that I have been here. Each part has its own story about how I got the name that I did.
My mom, my dad, and my grandma all had something to do with it. All the parts of my name, and
how I got them has helped shape me into who I am and perked am interest in how others got their
names.
In 1997, my name was unique and not very popular. Now, if you put me in a classroom with twenty
people, there is at least one other person with my name. The Social Security Administration ranked
Madison as the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stereotypes of my first name are fairly interesting. Sometimes I m a boy, but usually Madison is
negatively stereotyped. Madison is snooty and intimidating. The name of the rich, mean, rude girl,
who is always the antagonist of the movie is named Madison pretty often. If I have an interview or am
getting recognized for something, I stick to Madison because it is a more professional name than my
nickname Maddie. Maddie is a more southern and inviting name. When I was a server at Cracker
Barrel I got twice as many tips because Maddie was on my apron instead of Madison. Maddie isn t an
intimidating name. It s actually friendly. Maddie was a nickname given to me by my grandpa when I
was little. He said that I was too much of a tom boy on the farm to be called such a girly name like
Madison. The name stuck. Everyone calls me Maddie instead of Madison including myself. My mom
is the only person other than an occasional teacher who actually calls me Madison. Mom says, I would
have named you Maddie if that s what I wanted to call you. I hear my mom say this phrase at least
once a month. I like both of the names I was given. I can choose who I want to be or what first
impression I want to give just by choosing what name I introduce myself

A Black And White And Silent Movie Released
Sherlock Jr. is a black and white and silent movie released in 1924. Bister Keaton was responsible for
direction and performance in the forty nine minutes long movie. As the main protagonist, Keaton is a
projectionist in a theater and also longing to be a detective. However, when he is framed by the local
sheik at the home of the girl he likes, the naïve projectionist is unable to prove his innocence by
evidences and leaves. Projecting the movie in the theater, he has a dream of arresting the annoying
criminal, who makes him be a disgraceful person in the front of the family. On the other hand, in

sheik worries that the young man book might discover his evil deed with the aid of the book.
Following the sight of the man, the eye line match offers a close up of the book that reveals the steps
of being a detective to Sherlock. The next shot even further closes up with extra attention to the first

the two men with a medium shot, disclosing the secret movement of the villain, and Sherlock is still

curtain. In this ninth shot, a medium shot with a straight angle shows the viewers an overall
circumstance in the room. At two side of the curtain, four members of the family are arguing on one
side; the villain keeps his eyes on them silently, and Sherlock still watches his book. The tenth shot

music keeps speeding up gradually. After sneaking a peek at Sherlock, a title card describes the

Defining Goffman s Total Institution Essay
To examine how far Lennox castle hospital was an example of what Goffman called a Total Institution
I will first need to explore Goffman s definition of this, along with the four factors that he identified as
characteristics of a Total institution I will then go on to discuss how these four factors fit with Lennox
castle hospital and determine whether or not it fell into Goffman s model of a Total Institution.
In order to discuss how Goffman s four factors fit with Lennox castle hospital I will first examine his
definition. In 1961 Goffman stated that a total institution is a place of residence and work where a

Synopsis Of The King Of The Flies
It s another one of Aber Hael s main attractions. People come from all over for our wares, but
especially the seafood. I tell you, these people can fry, pickle, and salt anything.
Carlton removed Audra s arm from this elbow and took her hand instead, threading his fingers
between hers. It ll be easier for us to move along this way.
The king pointed out his knights skirting the edge of the crowds. As you can see, I make sure lots of
knights are available on market day to help keep the peace. It s usually calm, but in the warmer
weather when people have too much to drink, things can get rowdy. That s where our men come in.
Audra and Carlton walked from stall to stall and examined the wares without much fanfare. Audra
particularly liked the small charms and sun catchers offered at one stall. She admired a sun catcher of
a beautifully detailed red dragon flying above the clouds over a rushing river, Hael River, she
assumed.
A robust, white haired woman, the stall s merchant, approached. That s one of my favorites. Isn t that
beautiful?
Yes, I love it. Do you make these? Audra turned the sun catcher that hung from a hook so it would
better reflect the light.
I m proud to say the work s all mine. Can I interest you In that instant, Carlton turned around and the
old woman clearly recognized him right away and could not speak. She curtseyed low immediately.

Groundwater Chemistry In Groundwater Pollution
Introduction The groundwater chemistry is controlled by rock water interaction, dissolution of mineral
species and anthropogenic activities (Faure, 1998; Subba Rao,2001; Umar and Absar 2003). The
potability of water is also affected by over exploitation of groundwater which ultimately gives rise to
severe problem. Anthropogenic influences like domestic sewages, industrial effluents and chemical
fertilizers also deteriorate groundwater quality (Vasanthavigar et al. 2012). Variations in water quality
and its suitability for domestic and irrigation purposes have also been examined by Alam (2013);
Kumar et al (2009); Jalali (2007) and Umar et al (2007).
Fluoride, an essential component for human health, is obtained mostly by drinking water but it
becomes toxic when its concentration exceeds the permissible limit (Handa 1975; USPHS 1987;
WHO 1984). A concentration of fluoride less than 0.6 mg/l may results in dental carries, while greater
than 1.2 mg/l results in fluorosis (ISI 1983). Problem of excessive fluoride in groundwater was first
highlighted by Short et al. (1937) in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and today more than 65
million people, including 6 million children, are affected by endemic fluorosis in 20 states of India as
a result of consuming high fluoride water (Gupta et al. 2006) and Uttar Pradesh is one of those states
(Jha et al. 2010).

Buffalo Soldiers Research Paper
Buffalo Soldiers were made up of former slaves, freemen and black Civil War Soldiers. Buffalo
Soldiers got their names from the Indians because of the way they looked. Their short curly hair and
their dark faces reminded Indians of buffalo. Another reason they were called Buffalo Soldiers is
because of their fierce way of fighting reminded the Indians of the way the buffalo fought. The last
reason they were called the Buffalo Soldiers was because they often wore thick coats made of buffalo
hide in the cold of winter. In 1867 there were four black regiments: the 9th and 10th Cavalry units and
the 24th and 25th Infantry units called the Buffalo Soldiers. The first black regiment to get the name

The Results of Student Censorship
The students of this country are expected to follow the rules and regulations that their schools impose,
and whether or not they are fair is constantly challenged. In a perfect world, everyone would be
content under the same guidelines, regardless of how restrictive they may be. However, this is not a
perfect world and finding a universal agreement among everyone is virtually impossible. Throughout
history, those who have disagreed with actions made by authoritative figures have found a way to
protest said actions. From the Cambodian protests in Kent State to the Tiananmen Square protests,
students have been very vocal about what they are against and refuse to be censored by their schools
or their government. Attempting to do so, however, could lead to retribution from authorities.
Censoring students and their voices affects the students by almost trying to instill fear and demoting
contest from them can result in various scenarios, both good and bad. Violence is never the answer,
but there have been more than a few occasions where violence was the chosen path from a group
trying to suppress students. One of the most infamous cases of violence against protesting students is
the Kent State Massacre. On May 4, 1970 students of Ohio s Kent State University had a
demonstration against then President Ronald Reagan s decision to invade Cambodia during the
Vietnam War. In an attempt to shut this demonstration down, The Ohio National Guard was called in.

There are three categories that can classify genetic diseases. They are single gene disorders,
chromosome disorders, and multifactorial disorder or complex disease. Each of these categories are
different with and affect people in certain ways. Single gene disorders, also called Mendelian
disorders, are caused by a modification that occurs in one specific gene. An autosomal dominant
defect occurs when there is an altered gene and a healthy gene that are inherited. An example of this
type of defect would be Huntington s disease, an individual only needs one copy of this defective gene
on chromosome four to have the disorder. Autosomal recessive defect, is another type of single gene

The health benefits of ginger are plentiful and it is often classed as a wonder spice with both medicinal
and culinary upsides. Over forty four hundred years ago, according to Rodale s Encyclopedia of Herbs
, Greek bakers made gingerbread from ginger that was imported from the Orient. In the sixteenth
century the Spanish were cultivating it. From Jamaica conquistadors brought it to the New World. In
1884 Great Britain was importing well over 5 million pounds of ginger root. The origin of ginger is
uncertain. It is believed to be native to southern China and India. It was then introduced into southern

Capital Budget Recommendation
Capital Budget Recommendation
ACC/543
Capital Budget Recommendation As a dedicated furniture maker and businessman, a clear
understanding of the techniques used to assist in capital budgeting is important. There are several
techniques used, each having advantages and disadvantages. Within this recommendation, the
advantages and disadvantages of each technique will be briefly discussed. Additionally, discuss how
each technique will assist in determining the desirable capital budget technique to recommend.
Concluding with a course of action Mr. Navallez should take, along with calculation to support the
recommended course of action.

This technique assist in the decision making process because once the internal rate of return is
determined, the desired investment can easily be decided. Taking the cash outflow and inflow from
each alternative and the desired rate of return will offer the best comparison as which investment will
present a return favorable.
Recommendation
The recommendation Mr. Navallez should take is alternative 1. Alternative 1 offers the best return on
investment. The use of the net present value techniques presents the desired return on investment. Net
present value over internal rate of return presents the expected return on cash outflows for the cost of
the investment, thus allowing management to compute a present value index. (Edmonds, Edmonds,
Olds, McNair, Schnieder, p.1160) Assume the desired rate of return is 8% over 10 periods, alternative
1 cash inflow would be $421,834 with cash outflow being $323,091 and alternative 2 cash inflow of
$314,057 with cash outflow being $283,930. The present value of alternative 1 is $98,743 and
alternative 2 is $30,127. Alternative 1 yields a higher rate of return, however, taking it a step further to
confirm alternative 1 is the best investment the present value index offers an additional comparison of
the two investments.

Euro Disney
1 Introduction – Euro Disney s Plans and Reality
When the International Offer of Shares for the Euro Disneyland S.C.A. (in the following called Euro
Disney) was published in October 1989 the plans for this new enterprise of the Walt Disney group
were ambiguous. The financial plans for the first year of operation projected total revenues of FF
5,482 million and a net profit after taxation of FF 204 million. For the following years the
development should be even more impressive. At that time the plans were seen as a consequent
application of the concepts of the existing Disney designed theme parks.[1]
Just a short time after Euro Disney was opened in time on April 1992 it was obvious that reality would
not meet the plans. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reasons all conclusions given below should be evaluated carefully. For a more detailed
analysis additional information would be necessary[4].
To be able to make a general statement this report will compare the plans for the first and second year
of operation with the financial years ending September 30th 1992 and 1993. At least the last one will
provide the opportunity to compare two periods of twelve months of operation. This comparison is
provided in appendices 1 to 3. With a stress on the second year – as explained above – the following
conclusions can be drawn:
· In the first year Euro Disney nearly met expectations for revenues and operating expenses of the
Magic Kingdom. With no operating profit from the resort and property development sector and higher
than planned general and administrative costs it failed to meet the profit projection by FF 392 Mio.
· In the second year again revenues from the Magic Kingdom reached the planned level but operating
expenses for this exceeded plans so that the operating profit was below expectations.
· Again there was no significant operating profit from the resort and property development operations.
· Lease, general and administrative expenses far exceeded plans.
· As a result the profit before exceptional profit and taxation missed plans by FF 2,332 Mio.
A more detailed analysis is given in appendix 4.

The Unique Language of Jamaica
Introduction
It is often said that Jamaicans have a unique language. Some may say Jamaicans do not have a
language of their own. Jamaicans official language however is Standard English. However there has
been much confusion in the language we speak because we sometimes or often times speak in what is
called Patois, Creole or even Ungrammatical English. This however is not considered a language.
Patois is not a native language, it is a second language. Patois is a combination of English and African
languages. Patois however reflects on the struggle and history of slavery and the ancestors. This
language however has an effect on Jamaica since being Jamaicans are descendants of Africa. Despite
the fact that patois is not Jamaicans native language it represents their culture and history. Patois have
been used in Jamaicans day to day life to communicate. However this is mostly used in casual
conversations. When having a formal conversation Standard English is used to communicate.
There are three types of patois. These three types of patois are basolet, mesolet and acrolet. Basolet is
the deep patois. This is where person speaks patois only. Acrolet is Standard Jamaican English. This is
where the person speaks only Standard English. As it relates to Mesolet this is a combination of patois
and Standard Jamaican English. Mesolet is however mostly used in present Jamaica.
Patois is still been used now in Jamaica even though Standard English should be used because of how
it was passed

What Does The Chimney Sweeper Mean
Everyone knows the quote hard work pays off. Sometimes the payoff is in money and other times it is
in experience. Tom in The Chimney Sweeper is one of those people who gets paid in experience. His
experience was an out of body dream of an angel freeing people from coffins. In The Chimney
Sweeper by William Blake, both stories use concrete imagery, a strong emotional connection, and has
an underlying symbolic theme of bible references to create a mood to the story. Although there are two
versions to The Chimney Sweeper they are different in length and the family itself. The Chimney
Sweeper uses a very specific word choice to show the concrete imagery Blake uses. ... leaping,
laughing they run (15) and wash in the river and shine in the sun (16). First the reader can see that
leaping and laughing is an alliteration. Secondly, Blake uses the adjectives to paint a picture that is
easily imagined by the reader so he doesn t lose the reader. It helps the reader become immersed in the
story. Tom can also be compared to as a Christ figure through the concrete imagery. ... Soot cannot

Not only that it s shorter but the storyline is differs from the 1789 version. Why could this be? Well,
this could be William Blake either summing the story up or he made the second story to be even

notes of woe. These words are creating a sorrowful beginning to the story. Also, In the 1789 version
we learn that Tom s mom died when he was young and his father gave him (Tom) away. In the 1794
version we know that both his parents are more important to the story because they are talked about

interdependent in the personal and professional cultural realm of France. Just like a flawless bottle of

I was completely responsible for my decisions (Gouttefarde, 1996, p. 60). The manager also stated,
each person has a defined responsibility , once you have completed your role you no longer have a say
in what happens to the project at the next level, thus no one is individually responsible . Bad choices
are made because of the blind following of power . Managers from the United States may have the
exact job in France however they have fewer tasks because of the hierarchical structure. For that
reason, managers have no authority to affect the final outcome of a project. The lack of autonomy
creates a lack of achievement and satisfaction which Americans value. From a business standpoint, if a
country such as France, scores high in power distance, there is a tendency to have more male
controlled traditions. As a result, managerial positions are typically held by men, and the women who
do hold leadership positions experience negativity. Considering the United States scored a 40 in power
distance indicates they are less accepting of unequal distribution and inequality. As an American
manager, working abroad in France I will face many challenges coming from a society that is lower in
power distance. In the United States I am accustom to briefing my subordinates about task in great
detail. I am also prepared for my authority to be challenged and to answer questions pertaining to any
information that was briefed. In fact, I encourage questions to

Music Synthesis Essay
The piece Touraman contains key structural principles associated with West African music despite the
different versions of Bembeya Jazz National and Lansana Diabate. The structural principles include an
ostinato pattern, improvisation, triple meter, ensemble stratification, and hocketing. In the Bembeya
version, the piece starts with a guitar flourish and then the test of the band comes in. The bass is
keeping the ostinato while the guitars interlock and at certain points improvise; the trumpet improvises
as well. This version also features some call and response, as the lead singer sings a line and the
backing vocals reply in unison. Diabate s version is in the traditional jeli style, so the piece is played
on traditional instruments, as opposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional version is likely to be played at a patron s event or accompanying a traditional
ceremony, while the modern version is more of a social music played at dance halls/concerts. A couple
reasons for the difference are the instrumentation and sociopolitical context of each version. Diabate
uses traditional jeli instruments, which are non electric and specific to jelis, while Bembeya uses
amplified big band instrumentation. A traditional ceremony in a village is not going to use electric
guitars and bass, just as a large cosmopolitan dance hall is not going to use balas and Koran recitation.
The two places are using music as a means for different ends one as a vessel for history and one as a
stamp of modernity. This leads to the sociopolitical context; jelis are born into their profession and
have certain rules around their music, while bands like Bembeya Jazz National were formed by the
state (Guinea) to play music around the country during post independence. While state bands included
jeli musicians, the instrumentation was different and the purpose behind the music was different as
well. State bands were Sekou Toure s way to improve morale and encourage modernity during the
unstable time following independence. So, Diabate s version is meant to be traditional, while
Bembeya s version is meant to be

Differences Between Emily Dickinson And Bukowski
Bukowski was influenced by many writers before and around his time as he was published in the mid
to late nineties. Those who influenced him include Albert Camus, E. E. Cummings, John Fante, Henry
Miller, and some will argue Emily Dickinson. Both writers, Dickinson and Bukowski, touch upon
death, writing from their graves, and saving the world through the sincerity of one person. Dickinson s
poem If I can stop one heart from breaking mirrors one of Bukowski s most famous quotes You begin
saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics. His
simple of idea that universal peace begins with one soul mimics the message in Dickinson s verse.
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain (Dickinson).
Words synonymous with each other not only shows the similarity in writing topics, but also in the
thought process for both writers. Both their moral compasses lead to the same conclusion, whether it
is a thought they act on or simply have. The similarities between these two go one further in their
darker poetry. Emily Dickinson famously writes many poems about death and dying as does Charles
Bukowski. Two poems of theirs are particularly similar. Bukowski s Alone with Everybody delivers a
similar message about death as Dickinson s Because I could not stop for death

“Stylistic Techniques in Kate Chopin’s The Story of an...
For centuries, American literature has served as indication on the power of words to articulate
encouragement for change by creating a call to action. Indeed, literature the art that expresses life in
words (Tanvir, Para. 4) has the ability to transform the comprehensive human race. Consequently,
literature serves as a record of all the dreams that made such change a possibility throughout history.
Each successive era, literature begins and ends with great writers communicating their own message
to their intended readers. When skillfully written, enthusiastic, and engaging a piece of literature
possesses the power to create a substantial contribution. One such great writer, Kate Chopin often

Surely, there is enchantment established in terminology, words have the authority to rouse stimulation
for change and/or summon strong emotional elements. Keeping this in mind, Chopin intentionally put
consideration into finding specifically the suitable word selection and syntactical structure to further
suggest the meaning and central idea in The Story of an Hour . The short story is extremely effective
with only a small amount of short paragraphs consisting chiefly of only a few sentences. Style and
Readability in Business Writing recognizes that Very short sentences, isolated or in a series, are
terrifically effective in the right place (Olson, DeGeorge, and Ray, Para.2). Although The Story of an
Hour can be read in but a glimpse of time, the short forceful syntactical configuration effectively
invites the reader together with Louise on her journey for independence. Chopin manages to immerse
the readers alongside Mrs. Mallard to no avail of popular thoughts at that time. Simply put, due to the
short length of the story, Chopin tactically embellishes the need for self independence and how it can
alter a person within a matter of an hour. In a speedy yet fatal hour, Mrs. Mallard lives in a conflicting
past, an overwhelming present, and a hopeful future. Certainly, few stories possess the capability to
capture the unities of such a complex character in so

the 1984 Republican National Convention, he participated in a political demonstration. The

Johnson, Oyez.org). The majority opinion was written by Justice William J. Brenna. It indicated that
the Court agreed with Johnson that flag burning constitutes a form of symbolic speech that is
protected by the First Amendment. And the Court disagreed with Texas argument that Johnson s action
breaches of the peace. What s more, it emphasized that the state may not discriminate upon different
view point. Justice John Paul Steven also wrote a dissenting opinion, arguing the national flag is a
valuable asset, and Johnson s action belittled the value of this important national symbol (Texas v.
Johnson, LII / Legal Information Institute). This case did not change or add any amendments, but the
first amendment played a big role in it. The First Amendment guarantees the rights of free expression
and action that are fundamental to democratic government, These rights include freedom of assembly,
freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech (First Amendment, Dictionary.com).
It protects people s freedom of speech, and emphasize the right of symbolic speech as well, This case
remains relevant today, and it is still a controversial issue. Because under the first amendment, people
have the freedom of speech. The Court supports the flag burning is the same as other legal forms of
symbolic speech, such as sit ins and wearing armbands. After this case, several laws and statutes had
been brought up to make desecrating the flag a federal crime; but

Civil Unrest Protests
Civil Unrest
Protests and demonstrations for various incidents and verdicts will continue to be the voice of the
public. Unfortunately, they aren t going anywhere. Usually, it is in response to a particular incident
demanding termination, prosecution, letter of resignation, etc. of those involved. Likewise, there could
be a reaction to a decision that was made to prosecute or not prosecute. With these demonstrations and
protests, law enforcement needs to be trained appropriately to de escalate or to let them protest if it s
nonviolent. As well, you need to ensure that you have an identified person within the department to
make sure that the action plan is in place but more importantly they are trained effectively to crowd

a detailed history of the religion itself. Before Muhammad the nomads had tribal law. They were

was called to be the prophet of Allah in 610 C.E. He would often go into the mountains to contemplate
life and injustices of the world. It was during one of the retreats that he received his first prophecy
from the Angel Gabriel. Over the next twenty two years Muhammad continued to receive messages
from Allah and these prophecies were compiled into the Quran or the Recitation. In the beginning
Muhammad was seen as a crazy person by many people.

Howard Hughes and the Flight of the Spruce Goose
I want to be remembered for only one thing, Howard Robard Hughes once said, and that s my
contribution to aviation. (LIFE) Howard Hughes was known as a mysterious, inventive, and reclusive
character. Hughes was an American entrepreneur who became one of the most wealthiest people
during the 1930 s and 1940 s. Howard Hughes was one of the most famous aviators of all time with
the production of his world wide known plane called the Spruce Goose . (Howard Robard Hughes)
Howard Hughes was born in Humble, Texas on December 24, 1905. Hughes was very creative and
ingenious, but an individualistic and private person. As a kid, he spent his time drawing automobiles,
trains, planes, and boats. His father, Howard Senior, invented a new type of drill bit for the booming
oil industry. The Sharp and Hughes Company was created, and quickly expanded in Texas, California,
and other states. His mother, Allene, isolated Hughes from the real world with her relentless fears of
germs, disease, and death. At the age of fourteen, Hughes was deeply interested in mechanics and
engines. He inherited the love of creating technical solutions from his father. As a way to resist his
mother to refuse to buy him a motorcycle, he turned his bicycle into a motorized bike. Howard
Hughes showed that he disliked school but loved tinkering with any kind of machine. One day, his
father took him on an airplane flight. It was one of the most important events in Howard s life. He was
finally flying.

The general right of a child is the UN convention on the rights of the child 1989. The articles of
convention can be broken down into four broad areas them being survival rights which covers a child
s right to life and basic needs such as nutrition, shelter, access to medical services and an adequate
living standard . Developmental rights include the right to education, play, leisure, access to
information, freedom of thought, conscience and religion. Childcare practitioners have a duty and
responsibility to ensure developmentally appropriate routines and activities for each and every child
which does not discriminate against the child on any grounds. Protection rights require that children
be safeguarded against all forms of abuse, neglect and exploitation. Issues covered are care and
rehabilitataion for children who have been abused and/or exploited including special care for refugee
children, safeguards for children in the criminal justice system and protection for children in
employment. Participation rights emphasises child s freedom to say and express opinions in matters
affecting their lives. Adults have a responsibility to allow children to control choices in their lives and
acknowledge and act on the feelings and opinions expressed. This information about the UN
convention on the rights of the child 1989 was cited from Donohoe amp; Gaynor (2007). Effective
communication with children is important to get a child to trust you and want to communicate with

  • 2. Federal Deposit Insurance Act Essay When Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president, he wanted to stimulate the United States Economy and give relief to the United States citizens. The American people feared that Roosevelt would abandon the gold standard and reduce the value of the dollar to fight the Depression. By the day of Roosevelt s inauguration, most of the nation s banks were closed. One in four workers were unemployed. To try to fix the United States Economy Roosevelt and his advisers came into the office bursting with ideas about how to end the Depression. Roosevelt sent bill after bill to Congress. Between March 9 and June 16, 1933, Congress had passed 15 major acts to resolve the economic crisis. These programs made up what the New Deal. The FDIC is an independent U.S. government corporation created under authority of the Banking Act of 1933 (also known as the Glass Steagall Act), with the responsibility to insure bank deposits in eligible banks against loss in the event of a bank failure and to regulate certain banking practices. It was established after the collapse of many American banks during the initial years of the Great Depression. Although earlier state sponsored plans to insure depositors had not succeeded, the FDIC became a permanent government agency through the Banking Act of 1935. The corporation is authorized to insure bank deposits in eligible banks up to a specified maximum amount that has been adjusted through the years. Having begun in 1934 with deposit insurance of $5,000 per account, in 1980 the FDIC had raised that amount to $100,000 for each deposit. • 3. Chamberlin Case Study The infamous Chamberlin case tells us the attitudes towards crime during the 1980s because this case was based on the attitudes of society which led to the false imprisonment of a mother who had lost her child. This case reveals societies attitudes through the opinions of the vast majority on the rareness of the crime, their understanding of culture and ability to consider facts rather than be influenced by the media. This case shocked the nation due to its rarity, in the eyes of the public the idea of a dingo taking a baby was thought to be ludicrous in comparison to the mother killing her own child. The publics attitudes towards this crime where of outrage as they saw the Dingo took my baby plea as a cover up for a murder committed by the mother. So much so that the term become a joke and was ridiculed, it is still evident in pop culture today in shows such as Seinfeld and the Simpsons. Ian Banker the prosecution barrister for the case, commented that it must have been a, man eating dingo [that] raided the cent like a tiger in an Indian village, therefore exhibiting that mockery was enacted by professionals to question Lindy s character, causing the public to conclude that murdering the child was the most logical explanation. During the 1980s common conversation and comments like, dingo s don t behave like that....they can t carry that weight were made, this reveals that the public legitimately thought that Lindy had committed the crime. Statutory and Non-Statutory Public Services A public service is a service that is funded by the government or by donations to help the government deliver its actions as effectively as possible. Yeah sure, each part of my name has been around for who knows how long, but when you put them all together it becomes an original and only been around for the twenty years that I have been here. Each part has its own story about how I got the name that I did. My mom, my dad, and my grandma all had something to do with it. All the parts of my name, and how I got them has helped shape me into who I am and perked am interest in how others got their names. In 1997, my name was unique and not very popular. When I was a server at Cracker Barrel I got twice as many tips because Maddie was on my apron instead of Madison. Maddie isn t an intimidating name. It s actually friendly. Maddie was a nickname given to me by my grandpa when I was little. He said that I was too much of a tom boy on the farm to be called such a girly name like Madison. The name stuck. Everyone calls me Maddie instead of Madison including myself. My mom is the only person other than an occasional teacher who actually calls me Madison. Mom says, I would have named you Maddie if that s what I wanted to call you. I hear my mom say this phrase at least once a month. I like both of the names I was given. That s where our men come in. Audra and Carlton walked from stall to stall and examined the wares without much fanfare. Audra particularly liked the small charms and sun catchers offered at one stall. She admired a sun catcher of a beautifully detailed red dragon flying above the clouds over a rushing river, Hael River, she assumed. A robust, white haired woman, the stall s merchant, approached. That s one of my favorites. Isn t that beautiful? Yes, I love it. Do you make these? Audra turned the sun catcher that hung from a hook so it would better reflect the light. • 14. Groundwater Chemistry In Groundwater Pollution Introduction The groundwater chemistry is controlled by rock water interaction, dissolution of mineral species and anthropogenic activities (Faure, 1998; Subba Rao,2001; Umar and Absar 2003). The potability of water is also affected by over exploitation of groundwater which ultimately gives rise to severe problem. Anthropogenic influences like domestic sewages, industrial effluents and chemical fertilizers also deteriorate groundwater quality (Vasanthavigar et al. 2012). Variations in water quality and its suitability for domestic and irrigation purposes have also been examined by Alam (2013); Kumar et al (2009); Jalali (2007) and Umar et al (2007). Fluoride, an essential component for human health, is obtained mostly by drinking water but it becomes toxic when its concentration exceeds the permissible limit (Handa 1975; USPHS 1987; WHO 1984). A concentration of fluoride less than 0.6 mg/l may results in dental carries, while greater than 1.2 mg/l results in fluorosis (ISI 1983). Problem of excessive fluoride in groundwater was first highlighted by Short et al. Those who influenced him include Albert Camus, E. E. Cummings, John Fante, Henry Miller, and some will argue Emily Dickinson. Both writers, Dickinson and Bukowski, touch upon death, writing from their graves, and saving the world through the sincerity of one person. Dickinson s poem If I can stop one heart from breaking mirrors one of Bukowski s most famous quotes You begin saving the world by saving one person at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics.
