The National Identity Of Being Amercian Essay
One 100 years from now, will Americans still have a sense of national identity ?
Joonkyung(David) Chi, Class 11:30
The national identity of being Amercian will be the concept of everyone.
A. The prominent national identitiy of being American is the freedom. Today, The freedom may could
be considered by the value of Amercian. According to The Atlantic, when American were asked the
question What contributes to America having stronger values than other places in the world? , over the
half of Amercian say the freedom is important. There also is a another example. Scholastic News
Online asked the children that What does it mean to be an American? , among 24 children most of
them said that the freedom is most important. So, Cheyenne L said I think it means to be free. I
wouldn t want to be from any other country. . The fact that children said freedom is important means
that the education of the United States also have taught that the freedom is core value of the Amercian.
Therefore, it can be told that the prominent national identitiy of being American is the freedom. B. The
freedom is spread by the liberal democracy
A political sociologist Dr. Larry Jay Diamond said component of the liberal democracy. There are
eleven components, and most of components were based on the freedom. For example, 3the
component is Citizens have multiple channels for expression and representation such as diverse
independent associations and movements which they have the freedom to form

Financial Advisors
As with many careers, financial planning requires an education. Financial advisors normally have a
bachelor s degree, but a master s degree adds credibility ( Financial Advisor ) . Some schools that give
you these degrees are Boston University, the College of Financial Planning, Texas Tech University,
and San Diego State University (Chandler). There are many degrees you can take in those schools.
Some are actuarial science, finance, accounting, business and law. Economics include agricultural and
business economics ( Financial Advisor ). You can take all of those classes, but finance is the number
one degree that employers want, as reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
The classroom provides the foundation of the learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important thing financial advisors have to do is earn the trust of their clients ( Career
Opportunities ). What they do everyday is this: Dave Spano says that the first thing he does is check
his calendar for the day. His day usually consists of three meetings. In those meetings they review
people s financial plans and investment portfolios. The rest of the day usually consists of
communication with employees, clients, and others via email, phone, and face to face meetings . Dave
Spano also says some skill s a financial planner needs is to be really good at math, understanding pre
algebra and being a good communicator. Dave Spano says the workplace is fun, open, and has lots of
activity (Spano). The first thing you should do when you are in the financial planning process is to
assemble information, then you should organize your financial goals and objectives, then you should
process and analyze the information, then you should advise a plan, then you should start the plan,
then finally, you should keep watching the plan and making sure it is doing fine (Curley). The
workplace is always fun for a financial advisor.
If a person thinks about their career, they will think something like this. An advantage to financial
advising is that you can feel good about helping people achieve their financial goals (Spano). I think
this will feel very good because it feels great to help people. A

C2h2 And Deuterated Acetylene
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rotation constant, vibration rotation interaction
constant, moment of inertia, and bond lengths for Acetylene(C2H2) and Deuterated Acetylene(C2D2)
synthesized in the lab. Using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), an absorption spectrum for C2H2
and C2D2 was generated and using the peaks and values given by the FTIR, the bond length between
C≡C and C H ultimately determined. Molecular spectroscopy is the study of absorption of light by
molecules, it analyzes the molecular structure. Spectroscopy used absorption of light or radiation to
indicate the structural properties of a compound. Molecular Spectroscopy interacts with radiation that
is Ultraviolet, infrared and visible spectral regions. As shown in the electromagnetic spectrum in
Figure 1, visible light is between 400 700 nm, the ultraviolet light is between 200 400 nm and the
Infrared has a much higher wavelength than both.

The Solution subsequently absorbs light or it does not. This creates a wavelength that can be
detectable by the FTIR. As the photons are being absorbed, the spectrum is recording the wavelengths
and it is indicated and shown by the peaks in the graphs that the machine prints out afterwards. An
example is shown in Figure 2, where there are peaks and enough data given that one can determine the
compound of the solution. The areas where there are peaks are an indication that there was sufficient
energy or enough radiation was absorbed to excite the molecule to the next energy

Warren G. Harding
Daniel Butchen Essay # 8 The 1920 s were a time of prosperity in our country. War was over,
businesses were booming, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. This was especially true
for president Warren G. Harding. He was a man that enjoyed women, poker, and drinking during a
time when alcohol was supposed to be illegal. More controversial was his use of liquor. Throughout
his adult life Harding drank and saw nothing wrong in it. He was never personally committed to
Prohibition, even though he had voted for it and, like many Americans, pretended the law did not
apply to him. He was careful to serve liquor only in his private rooms in the White House and would
sometimes take visitors there for that purpose. It was later claimed ... Show more content on

This was known as the Teapot Dome Scandal . Fall was found guilty in court and was even sentenced
to jail time. While this wasn t directly Harding s fault, it dealt a huge blow to his reputation. This was
Harding s biggest mistake; the people he hired. Still, Harding did manage to do some damage to his
own reputation with his actions. After Harding passed away a women named Nan Britton had come
out publicly saying Harding had an affair with her, and had fathered her child. While it was swept
under the rug successfully during his years in office, it was pretty well known that this was true. While
Harding is mostly known for his scandals and inactivity, he did accomplish some things in office. He
had kept a very successful watch over the budget and government spending. He had fought for civil
rights and had gone into America s most racist city, Birmingham, Alabama, and delivered a key civil
rights speech. However, his successes are overmatched by his scandals, and in 1923, 3 years after
being elected, Harding had been through enough physically and mentally, and died while in office. He
was succeeded by his vice president, Calvin Coolidge. Coolidge had a very different personality than
Harding. Coolidge was a rather cold person. He spoke in a high pitched, squeaky voice and spoke as
little as possible. He had a dry sense of humor and was

Photography Is A Culture, Not Just A Medium
INTRODUCTION
Photography is a culture, not just a medium. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an
explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a shift,
a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations and
comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality. There is
no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points of entry into
the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter narratives and
alternative readings to exist.
THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS
Working with an established collection like The University of Auckland Art Collection, curators need
to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately represents
the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140 photographs that
are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range to choose from, we
approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and found a broad theme
emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations housing the pieces, it was
important to then establish the works that could be transported to the venue in time, and from these,
we selected a more specific theme.
The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and

Communism In Latin America
Among the ways the United States tried to curb the spread of communism in Latin America, was
interfere in the inner policies of their countries. They were involving themselves in Nicaragua, El
Salvador, and Guatemala. They were trying to convince Latin America that it was in their best
interests to stay away from communist beliefs.
America was afraid that if communism spread to the neighboring countries it would eventually come
to the United States, so they felt it was their duty to prevent it from ever entering Latin America, to nip
it in the bud . If they succeeded in stopping the advancement of communism to Latin America, they
would not have to worry about communism spreading throughout the world.
Of course their fear of communism was only a precursor to the real reason America was tangling in
the other nation s affairs. America also believed Latin American dictators were very soft on
communism, and tried to get the leaders who they were comfortable with into power. The president of

They promoted policies that would further American interests. America also had vital investments,
like the united fruit company. It was owned by America, and Allen Dulles, the Director of the CIA,
belonged to the law firm of the United Fruit Company. (Talons of the Eagle)
The United Fruit Company owned all of the banana production, and banana exports, among other
important things in the region. President Eisenhower s personal secretary was married to the head of
the United Fruit Company s public relations department. There were many other politically important
people who were instrumental in convincing the United States to become involved in the company s
affairs.
The president of Guatemala pointed out, if America was truly afraid of the spread of communism, than
they would go straight to the source, which was the Soviet Union, and fight communism there.

Hockey Research Paper
This research paper is going to discuss facts about hockey and rules of hockey and the history of
hockey.
NHL Hockey and Olympic hockey are very different due to each league having their own style of
play. In Olympic hockey Fighting is frowned upon, those who fight receive a penalty match, and will
be ejected from the game. In the NHL fighting, is what most fans come to watch fighting allowed and
after the fight is over all players involved in the scuffle will be penalized and put into the penalty box?
The penalty box is where players have to sit after a fight and other behavior infractions for a certain
amount of time.

in the extra period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the rosters of the twelve teams have at least one NHL player on its roster. However, the NHL is
thinking about not letting its players play in the Olympics because it cuts into the season, and there is
a risk of getting there star players injured.
When Team USA beat the Soviet in 1980 it was important for the US hockey world because that team
was seeded seventh entering the game against the Soviet Union. During the 1980 Olympic run the
average was 22 and all the players were that year were both amateur and college players and the
Soviet s team was mainly professional and experienced players. This win gave coach Herb Brooks a
place in history because he did something no other USA coach has done for the last twenty years and
that is beat Russia, and he was named sportsman of the year in 1990.
In the Olympics for Hockey, they take the helmet and protecting the face rule very serious. During
warm ups, it has been required that all players wear helmets. If a player is not wearing his helmet
correctly during the game, the game will be stopped and the player is penalized. The NHL is a little bit
easier on players, it s not required like in the Olympics where players have to wear a helmet during
pre game and if your helmet comes off in the during NHL play the game continues.

Importance of Early American Women Writers Essay
What could be said to early American women s writers except, thank you? The first American women
s writers opened doors and laid the foundation for future women s writers and readers. Today s women
raise children, supervise households, and work outside the home with every modern convenience
available, and as you would expect do not find the time to write, except for a grocery list. Early
American women raised children and supervised households without the modern conveniences of
today and in some way made time to write the first poetry of the New World. For example, Everette
Emerson gives a picture of Anne Bradstreet a housewife who stole hours from sleep for writing gave
women American writers their start (4). Different styles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bradstreet poetry was considered plain style. She offered the reader a look into the private world, her
world. Upon Burning in Our House was a simple style poem about the truth put into simple words, as
were all of Bradstreet s poems. Bradstreet tells about faith in God and belongings lost in the poem.
Bradstreet addressed her husband, children, God, and community in her poems. Her maternal instinct
and dedication were present in her writing. In the poem, The Author to Her Book, Bradstreet compares
the poem itself to a child, her child:
Thou ill formed offspring of my feeble brain,
Who after birth did st by my side remain,
Till snatched from thence by friends, less wise than true,
Who thee abroad, exposed to public view,
Made thee in rags, halting to th press to trudge,
These errors were not lessened (all may judge).
At thy return my blushing was not small,
my rambling brat in (in print) should mother call,
I cast thee by as one unfit for light,
My visage was so irksome in my sight;
Yet being mine own, at length affection would
thy blemishes amend, if so I could:
I washed thy face, but defects I saw,
And rubbing off a spot, still made a flaw...(Meridian 33.1 14)
Bradstreet wanted her poetry to remain private. She accepted her poetry unconditionally, like a mother
accepts her child, because if she tried to correct the poem s flaws more flaws appeared. A distinct
expression of Bradstreet true love to her

Clyde Aspevig s White Cliffs Of The Missouri
Clyde Aspevig s painting White Cliffs of the Missouri , found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art
collection at the Tacoma Art Museum is an oil painting on canvas that is about 2½ by 3 feet in size.
This piece portrays white cliffs on the Missouri river, found in central Montana along the upper
Missouri River. Lewis and Clark traveled through these cliffs during their expedition in 1805, making
it a historical monument. Lewis kept a journal about this journey and marveled about the beauty of the
sandstone cliffs. I like this painting because of the feeling and memories it reminds me of. The water
and rocks remind me of all my childhood memories of swimming in the water and hiking mountains.

This painting is so realistic and painted with such precision and detail that he must ve wanted us to see
this place exactly how he did, with great beauty and light. The local colors are vibrant and cool yet
still make you smile because it reminds you of a warm summer day. The use of two contrasting colors,
the blue of the water and sky and the tan of the cliffs and couds, make the tan color stand out creating
such a visually pleasing and dynamic effect. The organic fluffy clouds and the ripples in the water
convey a peaceful sense to the scene. The pompous cliffs stand solidly contributing to the historical
importance of this location. The artist captures the illusion of depth through atmospheric perspective;
as the object gets farther it encompasses less detailed contributing to the descriptive nature of it. Since
the left side of the painting is much heavier than the right this painting is asymmetrical. Your eye tends
to gravitate towards the cliffs on the left because of their size and bright color which emphasize the
cliffs. This emphasis creates a focal point that the viewer is immediately compelled to look at.
A work that I am not particularly fond, also found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art exhibit is Rain
and Runoff an oil on linen by Ed Mell. This piece was at the Tacoma art museum and is also about 2½
x 3 feet in size. The subject of this painting is an abstract illustration of rain and its runoff, but because
of the abstract nature it is hard to make out the rain and other objects in this painting. The common
theme of his artworks has to do with weather and

Pros And Cons Of The Foreclosure Crisis
FINANCIAL MELTDOWN In 2008 the world economy faced its most dangerous crisis since the
Great Depression of the 1930s. The contagion, which began in 2007 when sky high home prices in the
United States finally turned decisively downward, spread quickly, first to the entire U.S. financial
sector and then to financial markets overseas. It began with mortgage dealers who issued mortgages
with terms unfavorable to borrowers, who were often families that did not qualify for ordinary home
loans. Some of these so called subprime mortgages carried low teaser interest rates in the early years
that ballooned to double digit rates in later years. Some included prepayment penalties that made it

Interpersonal Democratization Of New Media In The 21st...
This media study will define the cultural revolution of the Internet and the interpersonal
democratization of new media in the 21st century. The expansion of the Internet in the 2000s defines a
new era of greater democratization of social interactions that were not possible through the use of the
TV and Radio. In the 20th century, the power of TV and Radio did not provide an interactive platform
in which people could share information in a democratic way. The increase use of social networking
websites, such as Facebook, MySpace, and other social networks provided individuals with a new way
to share ideas outside of outmoded mediums in the new media. In today s media world, it is important
to understand the diversity of website access that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virtually every major party candidate for state and national office had an interactive website as did
most Democratic and Republican Party committees from the nation and state down to the counties and
cities of metropolitan areas (Margolis Moreno Riaño, 2016, p.138).
In this context, the cultural revolution of the Internet made it possible for citizens to contact their
political representative through email and other mediums of interpersonal exchanges, such as text
based chat rooms, in this democratic format. This is an important aspect of Internet access, which
made is possible for ordinary citizens (and not just computer programmers) to communicate with the
media based culture of American politics. This is a large part of the new media revolution that was
created during the rise of Internet interacting during the early 2000s.
The Internet not only provided a platform of new media through website access, but it confirmed ta
much faster response between individuals communicating through website interaction. The increased
speed of email communications and chat room access provided a more democratic response to current
issues in the modern mass media. In this manner, individuals using chat rooms or email could send
information much quicker, which outmoded the need for snail mail correspondences and the need for
reading newspapers. This form of Internet interaction could vastly increase the availability of

Ankle Braces Research Paper
Ankle sprains are the most common injury in indoor volleyball, and very few things spark intenses
debate in the volleyball community more than the question about using ankle braces to prevent these
type of injuries. The majority of ankle sprains are when the ankle inverts or rolls in, this occurs most
often while playing at the net where players make contact with each others feet when landing from a
jump during a spike or a block. The theory behind bracing is that the brace reduces abnormal ankle
movement. I think that ankle braces should be allowed because they help reduce ankle injuries and
increase your vertical; however many people also believe that ankle braces can potentially slow you
down and worsen your performance.

Native American Mascots Should Be Changed
In the recent years the media has sparked a controversy weather names such as the Redskins should be
changed and this debate still rages on because there is no clear cut answer. I am on the side that Native
American mascots should not be changed. First, Native American people see this as a chance for
dialogue and conflict resolution. Next, This gives people to have an insight on Native American
culture. Finally, many Native Americans feel that the names are not offensive.
Native Americans see this issue of mascots as a topic that needs discussion. This discussion is seen by
Native Americans as a way to learn about their culture as written by Paul Lukas in an interview with
Frank Cloutier, a Native American man,
What if a high school or university wasn t interested in doing these types of cultural exchanges and
educational efforts? What would your feelings be about their use of Native imagery?
It would be completely different. If they re not willing to celebrate and show the culture, they shouldn

The Causes Of Witchcraft
The human mind has always tried to grapple with inconsistencies, misfortunes, and differences.
Without true success, humans have pinpointed possible influences and causes of misfortunes or
tragedies within their communities. For many people in the 1600 s, witchcraft was a possible answer
to a lack of success in pinpointing the cause of tragedies. Gossip was the the primary root in all such
instances of witchcraft, weaving stories and accusations in private. These accusations of witchcraft did
not end in the 17th century, but now hide under pseudonyms such as different or outsider in this day
and age. The Lisbon sisters and Janie from The Virgin Suicides and Their Eyes Were Watching God,
respectively, are modern day examples of how gossip can catalyze witch hunts to persecute and incite
violence upon women who differ from the status quo. Janie and the Lisbon sisters possess many
characteristics often attributed to witches: sexual deviance, religious discord, and they are each
outsiders in their community. Witch craft is heavily influenced by rumor and gossip in the sense that
witchcraft would not exist without rumor and gossip to be fear leaders in witch hunts. The fear that
gossip and rumor bring about in a community often snowballs into acts of irrevocable violence and
sometimes death, as is the case in The Virgin Suicides. Women have always been the targets of witch
hunts for two main reasons: one being that men were perceived as stronger than women, and
therefore,

Jan Van Eyck Visual Analysis
There are endless works of art that surround each and every one of us that have always been enclosed
by mystery. Each person can interpret a piece in their own way, although, there is always some kind of
underlying meaning behind it. One of the greatest double portraits of the Netherlandish Renaissance,
is the Arnolfini Portrait, painted in 1494 by one of the most noteworthy northern European writers of
the Renaissance, Jan Van Eyck. The painting depicts a formal picture of a wealthy couple, Giovanna
Cenami and the patron of the work, Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini, joining hands in the bedchamber
of their Flemish home. Within this painting, Eyck uses the contrast of light and dark colors and

It is filled with scenes of the Passion of Christ. Like Jones mentions in his article, these metaphors
creates an emotional connection with the presence of God surrounding the couple (Jones). The mirror
also represents some kind some kind of witnessing taking place. This is reinforced by the signature of
Jan Van Eyck above the mirror that says Jan Van Eyck fuit hic which translates to Jan Van Eyck was
here . This shows a sense of the presence of the artist within the panting. Not only does the viewer
have a greater visual reality of the room that is depicted, but it can be also seen as if the viewer is
standing in the back of the room, as if they are a part of the painting itself, witnessing this scene. This
has a large significance of adding the viewer into the space and simply creates some sort of connection
that the audience can create as if they are involved within the event that is taking place (Hicks). The
mirror also shows what society was like at this time, because of the fact that only the privileged were
able to see their own faces and their own reflections (Hicks). In general, the mirror simply represents a

Theories Of Clinical Depression
Globally, around 350 million people suffer from clinical depression. However, its causes remain
largely unknown. There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of depression, but none of
them fully explain the disorder. In this essay I will explain the assumptions made in the psychoanalytic
and biological theories around depression.
The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances
depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s
subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child turning
guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental relationships
would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their bitter and
dissatisfied emotions. This internalisation would lead to self destructive behaviours and depressive

Events such as the death of a loved one, financial instability, or general emotional distress all
statistically increase one s likelihood of developing depression, and both of the theories that I have
discussed fail to account for the influence that these current events may have on an individual s mental
health. The psychoanalytical approach focuses only on early childhood, while the biological approach
does not take any life events at all into account. Psychoanalysis assumes that depression is rooted in
early childhood with little evidence to support this assumption. The biological approach, while still
erasing the effect that life events can have on depression, provides much more valid scientific
evidence to strengthen its theories. Because of this, I believe the biological approach to be a more

Jet Blue and West Jet Essay
JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects
1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it
impact operational activities and decision making?
Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book their
tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been a very
convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies, these
systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored and
records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline
companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays. This
benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also spent a lot of
money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however there was a high
risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website crashes made
customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a
similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up
a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many
questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other
side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract
more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems each airline faced in implementing its new
reservation system. What people, organization, and technology factors caused those problems?
WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had
already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger
bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they faced
was angry customers who flooded their site and

Northwood s Farewell Speech
Good afternoon Northwood administrators, teachers, staff, family and most importantly Northwood s
Class of 2018. Before I begin, I would first like to thank Mrs. Friedman for that lovely introduction. I
would also like to thank Mrs. Carey, Mrs. Hollister and the entire Northwood staff for giving me the
opportunity to speak to you all today.
Believe it or not, five years ago I sat in those same seats you re in right now. It s funny seeing you all
today, so grown up compared to the little 3rd graders I remember you being back then. Just like you, I
was a young thirteen year old kid eager to graduate and excited to walk through those big high school
doors in September. I couldn t wait for my first day. I d imagine myself making friends, playing ...

Coming from a great school such as Northwood, you will have a solid foundation and all the tools
necessary to succeed. Again, you have to make that decision to use those tools to help you.
Assignments will primarily be given to you with due dates. For example, my second week at Central I
walked into my English 1 class and we were given our first book. Coming from Northwood, I
assumed that we would be given a reading schedule along with the text but to my surprise we were
told to read the entire book by sometime the next month. Not to mention the papers, book reports and
projects that were all due in between that time. Again this was one class out of six I was taking so you
can imagine my facial expressions when I heard this. However, instead of letting my fear and anxiety
get the best of me I talked to my grandparents about my classes, got help from teachers/tutors, and
used the tools I had. If I didn t learn things previously that I should of for a class, I made sure I gave
maximum effort which always makes up for a lack of previous knowledge. Long story short, I ended
that year with a 4.07 GPA so again, I m telling you, no matter how challenging it may seem always

For Whom The Bell Tolls Innocence
Many scholars can conclude that the path of war is the path of destruction. People lose their lives,
their homes, and their innocence to war. War may bring overall victory to one country, but to both, it
brings loss on many levels. The underlying theme of For Whom The Bell Tolls was a loss of
innocence and having to give up one s personal beliefs to war. Three characters who faced the horrors
of war were Maria, Joaquín, and Lieutenant Berrendo. In For Whom The Bell Tolls, Maria was a
beautiful girl who suffered tremendously during the war until she was finally rescued by Pilar. Maria
lost her innocence to the war when she witnessed her parents death and when she was raped numerous
times by soldiers. ...they shot her with my father...I saw both of them shot... (Hemingway, 350). Maria
then goes on to explain that after being humiliated by the soldiers, she is taken to her father s office
where she is raped. ...into the office of my father where they laid me onto the couch. And it was there
that the bad things were done (Hemingway, 353). Everything Maria had faced from the war affected

Argumentative Essay On Drinking Water
The laws regulating the tap water is 35 years old and is out of date. 35 years ago the country was a
completely different place. The Safe Drinking Water Act only regulates 91 contaminants in the water
that we drink, but there are more than 60,000 chemicals within the water that the people drink within
the United States of America based on the information taken from the Environmental Protection
Agency. According to an analysis taking by government records, both scientist and government have
inspected thousands of cancer causing chemicals within the last decade, and the identified chemicals
are affiliated with cancer and other harmful diseases within the drinking water. As bad as it sounds,
not one of the chemicals has been added to the list of those regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act
since 2000. Other studies of shown that some of the law regulated chemicals are not as toxic as
previously known. The problem is, that the standards for those toxic chemicals have not been updated
since the 1980s and there still some unchanged laws that were passed in 1974. In 2004, more than 62
Million Americans have been exposed to drinking water that was below standard. An observation from
the Times says that over nineteen million test results from the District of Columbia and the 45 states
that made data available.

Honeywell Building Controls Division (BCD) was split after the Residential and Building Controls
Division lost money in 1981. The new BCD was created with a hope for a profitable business. In order
to get more market share, in 1984 the BCD started to build Mod IV; the great promised product with
better quality of its motor and cost reduction. The BCD built the cross functional Mod IV team
combined from manufacturing, marketing/sales, and engineering. In addition, to be more competitive,
the BCD dropped sequential development in favor of the parallel development with a desire for faster
and better products. The skate was high but the BCD had an inferior Product Development that slowed
them down. The inferior product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In effect, the development process is squeezed together (e.g., Clark Fujimoto, 1991). For the Mod IV
team, there was not a problem solving strategy. The project team did not have a plan or discussed
about the problem solving strategy in their team meeting. For example, when project team had a lot of
semantic issues, they did not even know about it (e.g., Brown Eisenhardt, 1995). Without problem
solving strategy, project team could not avoid errors later in the product development process. Hence,
Mod IV was having problem meeting schedule for both design and production. In conclusion, the
unaffected project team wasted resources, caused delay, and could not avoid errors. In addition, a
weak project leader could spell problem for Mod IV product development.
In this paper, we will take a look at two characteristics of the project leader. One central characteristic
is the power of the project leader (e.g., Brown Eisenhardt, 1995). By powerful leaders we mean those
project leaders with significant decision making responsibility, organization wide authority, and high
hierarchical level (e.g., Brown Eisenhardt, 1995). Those leaders are highly effective in obtaining
resources such as more personnel and larger budgets

Hydraulic Fracturing And Natural Gas
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking is a drilling process that allows access to unconventional oil and
natural gas reserves that would otherwise be inaccessible. Limestone, sandstone and shale far below
the ground contain natural gas. This gas is formed as dead organisms in the rocks are decomposed. We
can capture this gas at the surface when the rocks that contain the gas are drilled. To increase the flow
of released gas, drillers use pressurized water to break the rocks apart, fracturing them. Initially this
was sometimes done through detonating small explosions in the wells to increase the flow of gas to
the surface. Around 1940, oil and gas drilling companies started fracking the rocks through pumping a
high pressure water, sand and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, water from gas wells often returns to the surface containing low, but measurable radioactive
elements, and huge concentrations of salt. Economic Benefits/Liabilities Some potential benefits of
fracking include job creation, increased income and wealth for those who sign gas leases on privately
owned land, expanded local business opportunities for those who directly and indirectly service the
energy industry. This could be for example construction workers, hotels and restaurants. Another
benefit is rising tax revenue for communities. US oil and gas producers are struggling with
persistently low natural gas prices and a roughly 50% drop in the price of crude oil in the past year.
The huge drop in oil prices has caused many drillers to do drastically cut their budgets, including
laying off workers. Some firms are also struggling with higher costs of storing fracking related waste
due to stricter regulations. Water, Climate Hydraulic fracturing requires 2 10 million gallons of water
per well per fracture, which raises concern over water resources and quality. Some of the concern is
about depletion of groundwater sources, but there are also a concerns about contamination of
subterranean and surface water. (Boudet, H, 2013) Inadequately treated drilling wastewater with
potentially toxic materials; surface spills of chemicals etc is getting released into rivers and streams.

Engine Of Evolution Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 What Is Evolution?
In chapter one of the selected text given it goes over six main components being: evolution,
gradualism, speciation, common ancestry, natural selection, and nonselective mechanisms of
evolutionary change. These six components are broken down from the larger idea that life began with
one species and eventually broke off and evolved into many new and different branches of species.
Even in reading this, I do not believe that we all came from one species. I feel that evolution is true to
an extent that while species do evolve over time (which is the concept of gradualism) we did not all
evolve from one parasitic creature. To start simply the first component evolution in itself to me means
that overtime a creature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main lesson of biogeography is that only evolution can explain the diversity of life on continents
and islands. (Coyne 109).In convergent evolution 3 of the six components discussed in chapter 1 are
working together. These 3 components are common ancestry, speciation, and natural selection. If
evolution did exist, ancestors of species today that lived in the same place, when dug up, should be
fossils that resemble organisms today.
Chapter 5 The Engine of Evolution In this chapter of the selected text for the course they talk of the
three things involved in adaptation. First and foremost, there has to be variation in the population,
second, the variation has to come from genes changes, and the third is that the genetic variation must
affect the probability of offspring. Evolution by selection is a combination of randomness and
lawfulness. (Coyne 118). I also learned that the only difference between natural selection and artificial
selection is that on one hand the changes occurring are being made to happen by a breeder (artificial)
whereas the other is random selection due to environmental and survival changes

The Food Of The Potato Industry
Over time, potatoes have become a favorite and satisfying source of nourishment for individuals
globally. For many centuries, potatoes have been utilized to feed a variety people including those who
made historical strides. For example, an icon such as Christopher Columbus went on sea vogues for
extended periods of time and he had to store supplies and resources that had long shelf life and
nonperishable items. Since the versatility of potatoes are endless the purpose of this particular
vegetable can be consumed by people, exchanged (imported and exported) in markets across the
world, used to feed livestock, and/or used as a supplement to nourish crops for future harvests.
Ultimately, the potato industry is thriving and will continue because if prepared in the desired manner
potatoes are the most efficient or convenient source of beneficial healthy food. A downfall that could
cripple the potato commerce is if stricter regulations are implemented and enforced to reduce
undesired actions of the fast food(restaurant) industry, which as a result could cause financial ruins
affecting nation s economy and the global market as an entity. According to the Agricultural
Marketing Resource Center, the potato crops are the fourth most important crop in the world and
essential vegetable in the United States. Above fifty percent of potato sales are producers of french

The Church Of King Henry VIII And The English Reformation
The churches of the Anglican Communion have their historical roots in the English Reformation
(Anglican History). The Anglican church originated when King Henry VIII split from the Roman
Catholic Church in 1534 when Pope Clement VII refused to grant the king an annulment.
The following overview derives from the New Catholic Encyclopedia. Henry VIII, the second s son of
King Henry VII, was groomed for ruling the Church during his youth, with a broad education in
theology, music, languages, and poetry. His elder brother was being prepared for the throne, but
passed away from a sudden illness. Henry VIII took over as King, and became engaged to his brother
s widow, Catherine of Aragon. Based on the Old Testaments ban on marrying the widow of your
brother, King Henry VIII became concerned his marriage was cursed by God. He petitioned Pope
Clement VII for a papal annulment, but the Pope immediately rejected the annulment. In 1531, he
compelled the English clergy to accept him as head of the church of England, leading the Parliament
to pass a series of laws depriving the Roman Catholic Church of any authority in England. King
Henry VIII received the same legal authority over the English Church that the Pope operated over the
Roman Catholic Church. Following this, Kind Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn, and split his church
from the Roman Catholic Church, forming the original Anglican Church.
The word Anglican originates from the ecclesia anglicana, a medieval Latin phrase that dates back to
1246. The Latin phrase means The English Church. The Church of England traces its history back to
the 2nd century, when Christianity first arrived in Britain. The religion of Anglicanism believes that
there is only one God, but there are three elements of the Divine: God the Father, God the Son, and
God the Holy Spirit. Anglican theology tends to be biblical pastoral and apologetic, rather than
dogmatic of confessional. The valid baptism in the Anglican religion is by water, in the Name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People baptized during infancy are expected to reaffirm
their baptismal promise as they get older (Encyclopedia of Religion).
Anglicanism is sometimes called the via media, the middle way,

The difficulties of staying sane are immense during war and tragedies. Despite being institutionalized

The next fact that Dr. Cameron talks about is homosexual marriage having the highest rate of domestic
violence. He gives many reasons for supporting his facts with many different statistics, including that
the average rate of domestic violence in a traditional marriage that was established by a nationwide
federal government survey of 6, 779 married couples in 1988 is less than five percent per year. Only
two percent of husbands and 3.2 percent of wives said that they were hit, shoved or had things thrown
at them but with unmarried couples the percentages rise with a rate of about 20 % to 25% per year.
But in a same sex marriage, 48% of forty three lesbian and 39% of thirty nine gay couples reported
domestic violence and from a study that had 70 lesbian and gay students that were put into a conflict
resolution situation with gay and lesbian relationships, there was an estimated 29% of gay and 56% of
lesbian couples that experienced violence in the past year.
In conclusion, many people still believe that same sex marriage is not something that should be
allowed, yet many states are now considering it including, Massachusetts who already passed a law.

There are many degrees you can take in those schools. Some are actuarial science, finance, accounting, business and law. Economics include agricultural and business economics ( Financial Advisor ). The most important thing financial advisors have to do is earn the trust of their clients ( Career Opportunities ). What they do everyday is this: Dave Spano says that the first thing he does is check his calendar for the day. His day usually consists of three meetings. In those meetings they review people s financial plans and investment portfolios. The rest of the day usually consists of communication with employees, clients, and others via email, phone, and face to face meetings . Dave Spano also says some skill s a financial planner needs is to be really good at math, understanding pre algebra and being a good communicator. Dave Spano says the workplace is fun, open, and has lots of activity (Spano). The first thing you should do when you are in the financial planning process is to assemble information, then you should organize your financial goals and objectives, then you should process and analyze the information, then you should advise a plan, then you should start the plan, then finally, you should keep watching the plan and making sure it is doing fine (Curley). The workplace is always fun for a financial advisor. If a person thinks about their career, they will think something like this. An advantage to financial advising is that you can feel good about helping people achieve their financial goals (Spano). I think this will feel very good because it feels great to help people. A ... C2h2 And Deuterated Acetylene The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rotation constant, vibration rotation interaction constant, moment of inertia, and bond lengths for Acetylene(C2H2) and Deuterated Acetylene(C2D2) synthesized in the lab. Using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), an absorption spectrum for C2H2 and C2D2 was generated and using the peaks and values given by the FTIR, the bond length between C≡C and C H ultimately determined. Molecular spectroscopy is the study of absorption of light by molecules, it analyzes the molecular structure. Spectroscopy used absorption of light or radiation to indicate the structural properties of a compound. Molecular Spectroscopy interacts with radiation that is Ultraviolet, infrared and visible spectral regions. • 5. Warren G. Harding Daniel Butchen Essay # 8 The 1920 s were a time of prosperity in our country. War was over, businesses were booming, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. This was especially true for president Warren G. Harding. He was a man that enjoyed women, poker, and drinking during a time when alcohol was supposed to be illegal. More controversial was his use of liquor. Throughout his adult life Harding drank and saw nothing wrong in it. He was never personally committed to Prohibition, even though he had voted for it and, like many Americans, pretended the law did not apply to him. He was careful to serve liquor only in his private rooms in the White House and would sometimes take visitors there for that purpose. It was later claimed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was known as the Teapot Dome Scandal . Fall was found guilty in court and was even sentenced to jail time. While this wasn t directly Harding s fault, it dealt a huge blow to his reputation. This was Harding s biggest mistake; the people he hired. Still, Harding did manage to do some damage to his own reputation with his actions. After Harding passed away a women named Nan Britton had come out publicly saying Harding had an affair with her, and had fathered her child. While it was swept under the rug successfully during his years in office, it was pretty well known that this was true. While Harding is mostly known for his scandals and inactivity, he did accomplish some things in office. He had kept a very successful watch over the budget and government spending. He had fought for civil rights and had gone into America s most racist city, Birmingham, Alabama, and delivered a key civil rights speech. However, his successes are overmatched by his scandals, and in 1923, 3 years after being elected, Harding had been through enough physically and mentally, and died while in office. He was succeeded by his vice president, Calvin Coolidge. Coolidge had a very different personality than Harding. Coolidge was a rather cold person. • 6. Photography Is A Culture, Not Just A Medium INTRODUCTION Photography is a culture, not just a medium. Photography has been used as an exploitative tool, an explorative tool, and an artistic tool. A photograph can be a snapshot of time, a record, a detail, a shift, a perspective, an emotion. In curating photography, I had to learn how to create conversations and comparisons between images, whilst simultaneously letting each work retain its individuality. There is no one meaning in a photograph. The intrinsically challenging task was to provide points of entry into the works and elucidate the broad theme of the exhibition, whilst allowing counter narratives and alternative readings to exist. THE PRELIMINARY PROCESS Working with an established collection like The University of Auckland Art Collection, curators need to work creatively in order to produce an exhibition that is both innovative and adequately represents the collection. The University of Auckland Collection includes approximately 140 photographs that are situated around the various campuses and storage facilities. With such a range to choose from, we approached the task in a practical way. We initially surveyed the works and found a broad theme emerging images of architecture and nature. Due to the range of locations housing the pieces, it was important to then establish the works that could be transported to the venue in time, and from these, we selected a more specific theme. The Collection was established in 1966 with works from Colin McCahon and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were involving themselves in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala. They were trying to convince Latin America that it was in their best interests to stay away from communist beliefs. America was afraid that if communism spread to the neighboring countries it would eventually come to the United States, so they felt it was their duty to prevent it from ever entering Latin America, to nip it in the bud . If they succeeded in stopping the advancement of communism to Latin America, they would not have to worry about communism spreading throughout the world. Of course their fear of communism was only a precursor to the real reason America was tangling in the other nation s affairs. All of the rosters of the twelve teams have at least one NHL player on its roster. However, the NHL is thinking about not letting its players play in the Olympics because it cuts into the season, and there is a risk of getting there star players injured. When Team USA beat the Soviet in 1980 it was important for the US hockey world because that team was seeded seventh entering the game against the Soviet Union. During the 1980 Olympic run the average was 22 and all the players were that year were both amateur and college players and the Soviet s team was mainly professional and experienced players. This win gave coach Herb Brooks a place in history because he did something no other USA coach has done for the last twenty years and that is beat Russia, and he was named sportsman of the year in 1990. The first American women s writers opened doors and laid the foundation for future women s writers and readers. Today s women raise children, supervise households, and work outside the home with every modern convenience available, and as you would expect do not find the time to write, except for a grocery list. Early American women raised children and supervised households without the modern conveniences of today and in some way made time to write the first poetry of the New World. Upon Burning in Our House was a simple style poem about the truth put into simple words, as were all of Bradstreet s poems. Bradstreet tells about faith in God and belongings lost in the poem. Bradstreet addressed her husband, children, God, and community in her poems. Her maternal instinct and dedication were present in her writing. In the poem, The Author to Her Book, Bradstreet compares the poem itself to a child, her child: Thou ill formed offspring of my feeble brain, Who after birth did st by my side remain, Till snatched from thence by friends, less wise than true, Who thee abroad, exposed to public view, Made thee in rags, halting to th press to trudge, These errors were not lessened (all may judge). Clyde Aspevig s White Cliffs Of The Missouri Clyde Aspevig s painting White Cliffs of the Missouri , found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art collection at the Tacoma Art Museum is an oil painting on canvas that is about 2½ by 3 feet in size. This piece portrays white cliffs on the Missouri river, found in central Montana along the upper Missouri River. Lewis and Clark traveled through these cliffs during their expedition in 1805, making it a historical monument. Lewis kept a journal about this journey and marveled about the beauty of the sandstone cliffs. I like this painting because of the feeling and memories it reminds me of. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This painting is so realistic and painted with such precision and detail that he must ve wanted us to see this place exactly how he did, with great beauty and light. The local colors are vibrant and cool yet still make you smile because it reminds you of a warm summer day. The use of two contrasting colors, the blue of the water and sky and the tan of the cliffs and couds, make the tan color stand out creating such a visually pleasing and dynamic effect. The organic fluffy clouds and the ripples in the water convey a peaceful sense to the scene. The pompous cliffs stand solidly contributing to the historical importance of this location. The artist captures the illusion of depth through atmospheric perspective; as the object gets farther it encompasses less detailed contributing to the descriptive nature of it. Since the left side of the painting is much heavier than the right this painting is asymmetrical. Your eye tends to gravitate towards the cliffs on the left because of their size and bright color which emphasize the cliffs. This emphasis creates a focal point that the viewer is immediately compelled to look at. A work that I am not particularly fond, also found in the Northwest Cowboys in Art exhibit is Rain and Runoff an oil on linen by Ed Mell. This piece was at the Tacoma art museum and is also about 2½ x 3 feet in size. The contagion, which began in 2007 when sky high home prices in the United States finally turned decisively downward, spread quickly, first to the entire U.S. financial sector and then to financial markets overseas. It began with mortgage dealers who issued mortgages with terms unfavorable to borrowers, who were often families that did not qualify for ordinary home loans. Some of these so called subprime mortgages carried low teaser interest rates in the early years that ballooned to double digit rates in later years. Some included prepayment penalties that made it prohibitively expensive to refinance. These features were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gates, Kanika Kapur, Seth A. • 14. Interpersonal Democratization Of New Media In The 21st... This media study will define the cultural revolution of the Internet and the interpersonal democratization of new media in the 21st century. The expansion of the Internet in the 2000s defines a new era of greater democratization of social interactions that were not possible through the use of the TV and Radio. In the 20th century, the power of TV and Radio did not provide an interactive platform in which people could share information in a democratic way. The increase use of social networking websites, such as Facebook, MySpace, and other social networks provided individuals with a new way to share ideas outside of outmoded mediums in the new media. Virtually every major party candidate for state and national office had an interactive website as did most Democratic and Republican Party committees from the nation and state down to the counties and cities of metropolitan areas (Margolis Moreno Riaño, 2016, p.138). In this context, the cultural revolution of the Internet made it possible for citizens to contact their political representative through email and other mediums of interpersonal exchanges, such as text based chat rooms, in this democratic format. This is an important aspect of Internet access, which made is possible for ordinary citizens (and not just computer programmers) to communicate with the media based culture of American politics. This is a large part of the new media revolution that was created during the rise of Internet interacting during the early 2000s. The Internet not only provided a platform of new media through website access, but it confirmed ta much faster response between individuals communicating through website interaction. The increased speed of email communications and chat room access provided a more democratic response to current issues in the modern mass media. • 18. The Causes Of Witchcraft The human mind has always tried to grapple with inconsistencies, misfortunes, and differences. Without true success, humans have pinpointed possible influences and causes of misfortunes or tragedies within their communities. For many people in the 1600 s, witchcraft was a possible answer to a lack of success in pinpointing the cause of tragedies. Gossip was the the primary root in all such instances of witchcraft, weaving stories and accusations in private. These accusations of witchcraft did not end in the 17th century, but now hide under pseudonyms such as different or outsider in this day and age. The Lisbon sisters and Janie from The Virgin Suicides and Their Eyes Were Watching God, respectively, are modern day examples of how gossip can catalyze witch hunts to persecute and incite violence upon women who differ from the status quo. Janie and the Lisbon sisters possess many characteristics often attributed to witches: sexual deviance, religious discord, and they are each outsiders in their community. Witch craft is heavily influenced by rumor and gossip in the sense that witchcraft would not exist without rumor and gossip to be fear leaders in witch hunts. The fear that gossip and rumor bring about in a community often snowballs into acts of irrevocable violence and sometimes death, as is the case in The Virgin Suicides. There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of depression, but none of them fully explain the disorder. In this essay I will explain the assumptions made in the psychoanalytic and biological theories around depression. The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child turning guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental relationships would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their bitter and dissatisfied emotions. This internalisation would lead to self destructive behaviours and depressive symptoms later in life. Several similar theories have been raised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychoanalysis assumes that depression is rooted in early childhood with little evidence to support this assumption. Hydraulic Fracturing And Natural Gas Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking is a drilling process that allows access to unconventional oil and natural gas reserves that would otherwise be inaccessible. Limestone, sandstone and shale far below the ground contain natural gas. This gas is formed as dead organisms in the rocks are decomposed. We can capture this gas at the surface when the rocks that contain the gas are drilled. To increase the flow of released gas, drillers use pressurized water to break the rocks apart, fracturing them. Initially this was sometimes done through detonating small explosions in the wells to increase the flow of gas to the surface. • 34. The Church Of King Henry VIII And The English Reformation The churches of the Anglican Communion have their historical roots in the English Reformation (Anglican History). The Anglican church originated when King Henry VIII split from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534 when Pope Clement VII refused to grant the king an annulment. The following overview derives from the New Catholic Encyclopedia. Henry VIII, the second s son of King Henry VII, was groomed for ruling the Church during his youth, with a broad education in theology, music, languages, and poetry. His elder brother was being prepared for the throne, but passed away from a sudden illness. Henry VIII took over as King, and became engaged to his brother s widow, Catherine of Aragon. Based on the Old Testaments ban on marrying the widow of your brother, King Henry VIII became concerned his marriage was cursed by God. He petitioned Pope Clement VII for a papal annulment, but the Pope immediately rejected the annulment. In 1531, he compelled the English clergy to accept him as head of the church of England, leading the Parliament to pass a series of laws depriving the Roman Catholic Church of any authority in England. King Henry VIII received the same legal authority over the English Church that the Pope operated over the Roman Catholic Church. Following this, Kind Henry VIII married Anne Boleyn, and split his church from the Roman Catholic Church, forming the original Anglican Church. The word Anglican originates from the ecclesia anglicana, a medieval Latin phrase that dates back to 1246. The Latin phrase means The English Church. The Church of England traces its history back to the 2nd century, when Christianity first arrived in Britain. The religion of Anglicanism believes that there is only one God, but there are three elements of the Divine: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Anglican theology tends to be biblical pastoral and apologetic, rather than dogmatic of confessional. The valid baptism in the Anglican religion is by water, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. People baptized during infancy are expected to reaffirm their baptismal promise as they get older (Encyclopedia of Religion). Anglicanism is sometimes called the via media, the middle way, ... • 36. An Analysis Of Robert Leckie s The Mystery Of The... The difficulties of staying sane are immense during war and tragedies. Despite being institutionalized and constant attempts to change one s mindset and demeanor, the war didn t alter Robert Leckie s overall personality and traits as a man. Continuous physical and psychological battles erupted during World War II. Robert Leckie managed to remain sane, balanced, and humble enough to paint a clear picture of graphic and vivid altercations and battles. During the war, like most marines, Leckie began to question his intellect and the things he believed was significant. He assumed that he was becoming to understand and perceive most of the enigmas within reality, until he got to war. The mystery of the universe had once inhabited these lolling lumps, had given each an identity, a way of walking, perhaps a social habit of address or a way with words or a knack of putting color on canvas. They had been so different, then. Now they were nothing, heaps of nothing . (Helmet for My Pillow p 37) When relating to the bullets in and the power of guns, Leckie wondered how many lives are altered and obliterated by a quarter inch of heated metal. Does this force, this mystery, I mean this soul does this spill out on the ground along with the blood? No. It is somewhere, I know it. Another instance is when a Japanese warriors struts from the jungle, his crew men take pot shots at him by torture. Instead of the toying and making a mockery of the man, Lecki draws his pistol and takes him out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only will I be talking about why people are opposed to same sex marriage but I will also be talking about why people are for it and their facts and reasons to support their beliefs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next fact that Dr. Cameron talks about is homosexual marriage having the highest rate of domestic violence. He gives many reasons for supporting his facts with many different statistics, including that the average rate of domestic violence in a traditional marriage that was established by a nationwide federal government survey of 6, 779 married couples in 1988 is less than five percent per year. Only two percent of husbands and 3.2 percent of wives said that they were hit, shoved or had things thrown at them but with unmarried couples the percentages rise with a rate of about 20 % to 25% per year. But in a same sex marriage, 48% of forty three lesbian and 39% of thirty nine gay couples reported domestic violence and from a study that had 70 lesbian and gay students that were put into a conflict resolution situation with gay and lesbian relationships, there was an estimated 29% of gay and 56% of lesbian couples that experienced violence in the past year. In conclusion, many people still believe that same sex marriage is not something that should be allowed, yet many states are now considering it including, Massachusetts who already passed a law. There are many facts that have been listed above and some that haven t even been shared in my paper but the solid facts about same sex marriage being justifiable are the ones that ... Much more than the other elements, the Witches introduce an element of supernatural mystery and fear into Macbeth. As Coleridge says, as true a creation of Shakespeare s as his Ariel and Caliban and wholly different from the representation of witches in the contemporary writers, and yet presented a sufficient external resemblance to the creatures of vulgar prejudice, to act immediately on the audience. • 40. Essay about Miscegenation in “Desiree’s Baby” Miscegenation in Desiree s Baby In Desiree s Baby, Kate Chopin centers on race and miscegenation in the Creoles of Louisiana during the days when slavery was legal. Chopin brings together two characters, Armand and Desiree who are completely different. Armand is a cruel slave owner who comes from one of the oldest and proudest families in Louisiana, and Desiree is adopted and doesn t know her biological ancestry. The two marry and have a son whose skin turns dark after three months. Chopin shows how human beings are valued through skin color, and she shows that interracial marriages and interbreeding are not acceptable. In the story, Chopin uses three main characters, Armand, Desiree and the baby to show that love and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was thanking God for the blessing of her husband s love: But above all, she wrote, night and day. I thank the good God for having so arranged our lives that our dear Armand will never know that his mother, who adores him, belongs to the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery. Armand discovers the truth that it is he who has the Negro blood in him and not Desiree. Armand s father was not the racist that Armand is. His father married a Negro woman and had a child of mixed blood, Armand. His parents raised him in Paris where miscegenation was not a great issue as in the South. And although his mother had Negro blood in her and was too dark to pass for white, they could not live openly as a mixed couple in the States. And since nobody in Louisiana knows about Armand s mother, it is easy to assume Armand is white. Although Armand s skin is dark, he is still able to become a cruel slave owner who exercises superiority over any body he thinks is beneath him. When Armand discovers that his child has Negro blood, he begins to treat Desiree as a possession just as his slaves and he no longer wants to treat her as his wife. Armand could never become his father s equal and love Desiree unconditionally as his father loved his mother in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
