They Say I Say Essay
Higher Education Is Worth the Price Is getting a higher education worth the price? I think it is. In the
book, they say I say the author, argues that not getting an education doesn t necessary mean not having
a good job or a good position. I disagree. I believe education is really important. You may think you
have a good job in your possession or a good secure position, but later in life when a promotional
opportunity arises, you ll always fall short without the degree at your fingertips. Jobs requiring
minimal or no education usually involve strenuous labor and lack the opportunities to advance. These
jobs generally won t be in the office. People with a higher education stand out in society, not just

experience and lead the way, leaving him in the dust where he otherwise could have taken control if he

with a higher education pass right by. My uncle, a motor oil engineer at a well known company, goes
through the same exact thing. As a senior engineer at the plant, he doesn t get paid as much as the
people above him and therefore cannot get a higher position due to his educational limitations. Even
though he has more experience, he still can t do anything about it but get more education. Just the

get as much education as possible before I find a real job. He also mentioned that when it comes to
education, not to take short cuts. Stay in school as long as possible, he says, without breaking the bank

New And Improved Philadelphi The City Of Philadelphia
New and Improved Philadelphia Philadelphia is a place that is making enormous number of changes
to make it a more diverse, innovative and safer place for people to live. Many people have helped this
innovation and modernization happen with new restaurants, new buildings and safer living
communities. People tend to think that Philadelphia is not as good as other cities like Boston or New
York. Many people that have influenced Philadelphia are people that demonstrate a strong passion and
have a personal attachment to this city. Stephen Starr, John Fry, Jim Kenney and Bart Blatstein
illustrate and channel some individual visions and evolve the city of Philadelphia. The city of

Stephen Starr is a strong advocate for the city and when he wants something to be done he knows how
to get it done by this mentality it makes him an asset to the city and makes South Street a place that no
one thought it could change into. Stephen Starr in multiple cities have created many different
multicultural dining options to choose from Pod to Butcher and Singer. Stephen Starr in the beginning
had complications with people thinking he stole ideas but in reality Stephen Starr created a massive
repertoire of a diverse restaurants and many unique restaurant atmospheres. Stephen Starr
demonstrates an influential person on the city and greatly influences the community with the strong
economy. In creating many diverse restaurants, it creates places for people to eat creating a better
economy and jobs. Stephen Starr is someone who diversified restaurants and helped transform the city
like John Fry. The innovation and modernization in Philadelphia is making major transitions and
improvements to West Philadelphia. John Fry is making living communities that promote safety,
cultivating the community and improving the economy. John Fry has been a symbol of prosperity and

Search For Truth
The historian and the search for truth
A historian is a person who studies and writes about the past and is regarded as an authority on it.
Historians are concerned with the continuous, methodical narrative and research of past events as
relating to the human race; as well as the study of all history in time. History, in its broadest sense, is
the totality of all past events, although a more realistic definition would limit it to the known past. Of
all the fields of serious study and literary effort, history may be the hardest to define precisely, because
the attempt to uncover past events and formulate an intelligible account of them necessarily involves
the use and influence of many auxiliary disciplines and literary forms. The concern ... Show more

The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be shown to correspond to
experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by
repeatable experiments. E. H. Carr in his 1961 volume, what is History? argues that the inherent
biases from the gathering of facts makes the objective truth of any historical perspective idealistic and
impossible. Facts are, like fish in the Ocean, of which we may only happen to catch a few, only an
indication of what is below the surface. Even a dragnet cannot tell us for certain what it would be like
to live below the Ocean s surface. Even if we do not discard any facts (or fish) presented, we will
always miss the majority; the site of our fishing, the methods undertaken, the weather and even luck
play a vital role in what we will catch. Additionally, the composition of history is inevitably made up
by the compilation of many different bias of fact finding all compounded over time. He concludes that
for a historian to attempt a more objective method, one must accept that history can only aspire to a
conversation of the present with the past and that one s methods of fact gathering should be openly
examined. As with science, historical truth and facts will therefore change over time and reflect only
the present consensus (if that).

Analysis Of Nella Larsen And Chester Himes Essay
Nella Larsen and Chester Himes both published novels in the first half of the twentieth century that
deal with Black characters passing for white. Particularly because the race of some characters is fairly
ambiguous in Larsen s novel, members of the Black race as defined here will include those with any
known Black ancestry. Therefore race is being defined with respect to the one drop rule, which
dictates that any small presence of African ancestry requires individuals to be granted a hypo
descendent racial status. This decision came about because both novels are set and were published
during a time when legal racial status largely determined individuals economic power in order to
maintain Jim Crow segregation (Davis 17 19). Given this definition of Blackness, both Larsen s
Passing and Himes If He Hollers deal with the concept of Blacks passing as white. Himes Robert Bob
Jones and Alice Harrison, and Larsen s Irene Redfield and Clare Bellew are all Black characters who
are able to pass at some point. On the surface, this is possible simply because those characters all have
very light skin. However, it is also true that those same characters either have an apparent respectable
status, or both money and a respectable status. This status is determined by such traits as dialect and
speech, as well as expensive clothes. These factors all influence whether or not the light skinned Black
characters are able to pretend to be white in white spaces. Though they

Arguments Against Eugenics
The ability to promote or enhance certain capacities in the hope to develop a superior human race
connotes science fiction as well as fantasy, however the study of eugenics proves that this act of
fiction has the potential to be reality. Eugenics, or good breeding as Sir Francis Galton would say, is a
controversial topic due to the deliberation of whether its benefits outweigh the toll that it takes on
humankind. The process of eugenics can be viewed as humans ability to control the Natural Selection
process, which is the survival and reproduction of organisms with the best adaptations, such as a tree
frog s adaptation of different colouring to better blend in with their surroundings to avoid predators.

Huxley believed that the use of eugenics was a necessity to provide a solution to the problem of
overpopulation. Due to fear of a complete erosion of the world s resources, Huxley sought to use
eugenics as a means to control and regulate population increase and to achieve some sort of balance
between reproduction and production instead of uninhibited expansion (Scarfe, 2018a, 3). In order to
successfully protect the human race from these impending horrors Huxley theorised a eu selective
program which utilizes Negative and Positive Eugenics as tools to administer change. Negative
Eugenics is the enforcement of preventative actions such as sterilization to intentionally eradicate
humans who are born with abnormalities, genetic diseases, and mental deficiencies (Scarfe, 2018a, 2).
In contrast, Positive Eugenics would encourage individuals who Huxley deemed genetically well
endowed to reproduce in order to improve the human species as a whole. Several strategies that
Huxley proposed to enforce Negative Eugenics include, the diminishment of social services such as
public health care programs, or financial assistance for families who do not have desirable genetics,

How Did Shakespeare Impact The World
The 16th Century was a time in history that produced a great amount of people that contributed to
different aspects that affect the world we see to day. The technology, entertainment and education of
today was greatly impacted by important individuals. Entertainment evolved from what had originally
been know at the time. An individual that contributed to that was, William Shakespeare. William
Shakespeare was a famous playwright and poet that was born in the 16th Century, lived in London for
some of his life and influenced literature, theater and the English language in multiple ways.
Shakespeare was a man of incredible talent and in his life had over 193 works. Shakespeare paved the
way for a new generation of writers with the influence his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare expanded what could be accomplished through characterization, plot and genre. At the
time plays were with characters and plots that were symbolic rather than realistic. Shakespeare made
changes that resonated on emotional levels with audiences. In a play like Hamlet... Shakespeare
integrated characterization with plot in a matter that plot becomes dependent upon the development of
characters. ( ). In Romeo and Juliet, the new genre romantic tragedy was created. Shakespeare mixed
tragedy and comedy to create the genre. The romance genre had not been a topic under tragedy prior
to Shakespeare doing this. Shakespeare s main categories had included: tragedies, comedies and
histories. Shakespeare had written 37 plays, 2 narrative poems, and 154 sonnets. All of these works
were created in a time span of approximately 30 years. He was the first at the time to merge together:
verse, poetry and drama. He used a blank verse his whole career and perfecting the way we see it
today. With the combination of those three, the beginning of the modernization of English literature
was marked. Shakespeare gave us new ways to express hope, despair and sorrow with his styles of
writing. The English language was also enriched by Shakespeare as he made it more expressive and
colorful. ... He is credited with introducing nearly 3,000 words to the English language. ( ). It has been
said he used 15,000 words in his plays, a portion of these he created by merging existing words
together and anglicizing vocabulary from foreign languages. His works are the second most often
quoted after the Bible. With that title to his name, he is the most quoted playwright of all time with
fellow writer trailing behind him. Shakespeare s works are also continually performed in non English
speaking nations. The writings are usually literally translated in order the true originality to

Much Ado About Nothing Lies Analysis
Much Ado About Nothing Essay
Lying is complicated in that the effects of it vary based on the motivations and character of the one
who tells it. This is prominently displayed in William Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing
with foil characters Don Pedro and Don John. Don Pedro is motivated by the idea of being a good
friend, and, as a result, his lies have a positive effect on those affected. In contrast, Don John, the play
s antagonist, is motivated by revenge to lie. When he lies, these falsehoods have negative
consequences, which mirror his intentions. Thus, foil characters Don Pedro and Don John illustrate
that lies motivated by good intent have positive effects while lies motivated with ill intent have
negative consequences.

Once Claudio and Beatrice start planning their wedding, Don Pedro tricks Benedick into thinking
Beatrice is in love with him, and vice versa. This lie is similar to the lie in which he uses deceit to get
Claudio and Hero together in the first place. Afterward, Benedick says to Beatrice: There is nothing in
the world I love as much as you. (V,iv,95) [1] Don Pedro s lie, in contrast to Don John s, has the rather
positive effect of Benedick and Beatrice falling in love. The positive effects of Don Pedro s trickery
mirrors his intentions helpful. In contrast, Don John tricks Claudio into thinking Hero is unfaithful the
night before their wedding, much like how he tricked Claudio into thinking Don Pedro took Hero for
himself. Because of this, Claudio accuses: She knows the heat of a luxurious bed. Her Blush is of
guiltiness, not modesty. (IV,i,35) Claudio publicly accuses Hero of adultery, one of the most heinous
crimes of the time, and, at least temporarily, ruins their relationship based on Don John s lie. Similar
to Don Pedro s example, the effect of the malicious act matches perfectly with Don John s evil
intentions and his meddling character. Claudio s extreme reaction to this news causes Beatrice to
emotionally manipulate Benedick into dueling Claudio for defaming Hero. Thus, the comedy suggests
that the aftermath of lying depends on the

##und Man, By Ilse Aichinger And The Handsomest Drowned...
A man is limited physically by a rope tied around his hands and feet. Villagers are limited
intellectually where none of them have traveled around the world or they have not seen any of the
natural beauties and diversities that the world has to offer. One is limited quite simply and clearly
while the other simply cannot fathom the awe inspiring sight bestowed upon them. These are the
unlikely scenarios that confront readers of The Bound Man, by Ilse Aichinger, and The Handsomest
Drowned Man in the World, by Garcia Marquez. The Bound Man is a story about a man who awoke to

In the case of The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World, the characters are limited spiritually
initially but reach spiritual enlightenment throughout the progression of the villagers journey. This is
demonstrated by the women s realization that the body is beautiful in a way they have never seen
before, that body s physical abilities, the body s name and personality, and finally enlightenment. The
bound man in The Bound Man realizes that he has the ability to move, which shows him that not all
hope is lost... or that children (due to the lack of quality in the bounds) simply played a mere joke on
him. Although this event is not part of the bound man s journey, it is the catalyst for his embarkment.
During one of the beginning parts, he tries to stand but is unable to but, at the end of this first
experience, he moves quite efficiently. He laid his head back on the grass, rolled over, and struggled to
his knees. He tested the ground with his toes, and then managed to stand up almost without effort.
(Aichinger 69). This experience describes the bound man s progress through the first, stage of
reaching enlightenment. At first he tried to reach his goal of standing up but failed because he is not
fully aware of what his own limitations are. He realizes what he needs to be aware of and proceeds to

How Did Religion Influence Ancient Egypt
The geographical location and the surrounding environment of Egypt heavily influenced the people of
Ancient Egypt s spiritual life and their religious belief in a multitude of ways. A central part of the
environment that contributed to Egyptian spiritual life and religious beliefs is the Nile River, a
foundation of their cosmology. Their religious belief stems from the myth of Ra, the sun god. The
belief is at the beginning of time the Nile brought a mound of silt where Ra, the highest deity among
the Egyptian gods. From Ra, the other gods emerged. The Nile River, to the Ancient Egyptians,
symbolized rebirth and renewal. The Nile also represented the belief in life after death. The story of
Osiris is directly connected to the Nile River, and the resurrection after death. Osiris, the god of the
underworld, was killed by his brother Set and his body was cut into small pieces and thrown into the
Nile. Osiris wife, Isis, collected the pieces of his body and put him back together. This myth
contributed to the belief in life after death, which in turn would influence many more aspects of their
lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Barbara Ehrenreich Weaknesses
Barbara Ehrenreich is a successful American author that conducted an experiment of living in a life of
low wages. She documented her experiences and thus made the book Nickel and Dimed. This story
involves a woman named Barbara Ehrenreich who goes undercover to experiment living in a life of
low wages and sees if she can survive from it. Ehrenreich effectively captures her argument of
showing that it is almost impossible to provide the basic needs for one s self by working a minimum
wage job. The part of the title of the book that states On (Not) Getting By In America; the word Not
goes with her argument being that it is very hard to provide for oneself under the employment of a
minimum wage job.
This book had several strengths, for one it contained first hand experience; experiences being that
Ehrenreich had worked in different cities and in a wide range of jobs. This was able to give the reader
a feel that no job is similar, but the way the employees get treated is similar. For example, Ehrenreich
had worked as a waitress, maid, and a cashier. In the time of her waitress occupation she dealt with
many unfair rules of management and rude customers. In the time of her maid occupation, she also
dealt with unfair rules of management and rude homeowners. Finally, as a cashier; she also dealt with
unfair rules of management and unfair schedules that they wouldn t accommodate to. So the relapsing

the multitude, who, if they could, would restore people to life as readily as they put them to death and

Great Britain s Role In Canada
From confederation to the turn of the century, Canada has been a nation that maintained close ties with
Britain, its mother country. The strong connection between Canada and Britain is often used to define
what Canada is. This relationship more or less determined what the people of Canada believed in,
acted upon and looked up to. During this period, the lack of a clear identity put many Canadians in
search of one. However, there were little in common between the Canadians across the nation. This
encouraged many people of Canada to worship the British model of culture, morals and beliefs. The
sense of security and status that they see to be a product of their connection with Great Britain
prompted a great number of imperialists to support Canadians ... Show more content on

After the confederation, instead of unity, many Canadians felt diversity was too strong of a sentiment
to ignore. It has proved that the passage of time did little to mute cultural differences and [perhaps]
deepened and intensified [the divisions]. It was apparent that appeals to a common language, a
common cultural tradition, or a common religion were simply impossible for Canadians. This then
prompted many people in Canada to find a way to establish Canadian nationalism, or simply define
what being Canadian means. Although Canadians were struggling to find common ground in the
initial stages after confederation, they presumed more or less that their day to day life would be
carried out in accordance with the British model when the newcomers arrived. It was in people s
conscience that an Anglo Canadian society modelled exclusively on a British mould was a possible
option. During this period of confusion, the connection between Canada and Britain gave Canadians a
sense of direction and provided a model that they could follow. In the early fuzzy stages of struggling
to identify themselves, Britain somehow provided people of Canada a culture, morals and beliefs to
abide by and give off a sense of security during their continuous search of a Canadian identity. Many
Canadians recognized that the British connection and the institutions it represented

Essay about The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
The Vietnam War s Effects on American Society
Abstract
The Vietnam War had a profound effect on American society.
It changed the way we viewed our government, the media, and our Constitutional rights. Because of
this shift in perspective, the country was torn apart and yet still came together in new and different
ways. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our
government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily
against the violence of the war itself. These changes in the behavior of society have left a lasting mark
on our perception and the demand to be informed since that influencial period of social turmoil.

It was not just a war in Vietnam or in
America, but the war became a symbol (Gioglio, 20).
One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were
known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the
war could have(Fever, 11).
They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the
spring of
1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles.
These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The
teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54).
Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach in,
students, faculty
members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the
Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the
University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in
April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye. The
demonstrations were one form of attempting to go beyond mere words and research and reason, and to
put direct pressure on those who were conducting policy in apparent disdain for the will expressed by
the voters
(Spector, 30 31). Although

simple: hair needed to be cut a certain way, creases in my uniforms were to be exact, mandatory clean
shaven face and my medals/ribbons needed to be in their proper place and perfectly aligned to
standards. Once I retired, reality set it when I assumed the role as a Human Resourcess Manager or
Director. Skirt lengths, open/closed toed shoes, cleavage (both front and rear), piercings and tattoos
are just a few of the items I was responsible for in regulating at the corporate office. This paper will
discuss many of the common dress code issues, legal responsibilities and a bit of personal humor and
insight into the ordeal of establishing a dress code policy that will regulate your appearance. In
addition, this paper will add some of my trials and pitfalls when establishign policy that might help
some of my colleagues who will become Human Resources professionals learn to be realistic and
quite possibly compassionate when it comes to preparing a dress code policy. Regulating Your
Physical Appearance When you think of an interview, what comes to mind? Suit and tie? Freshly

Putting Constitutional Protections in the Backseat for...
A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over
themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit
traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became
critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common
language of English, a religion based on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional
family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did not
conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. This weeks reading demonstrates
how Constitutional guarantees take a backseat in the wake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The abuse of power transcended national boarders as the U.S. government turned a blind eye to
American troops engaged in the unleashed and unchecked torture of prisoners of war. The use of
torture is not in the national interest, as it has been found that the intelligence gained through torture is
unreliable. Like the Japanese after Pearl Harbor, America consistently presses or even oversteps its
Constitutional boundaries in times of national security. The cultural foundations deeply ingrained in
the American experience provide little relief towards an amicable concept of Rooted
Cosmopolitanism. Southern California is an outlier, geographically dethatched with an aura of
modernity. Rapidly advancing modernization and an influx of religious diversity emerged in tandem;
the effect Christianity molded to secular exigencies shaping a pluralistic state. However, Southern
California reflects a religious model independently formed, largely out of reach from the grip of
ripened American values and democratic traditions prevailing in the eastern part of the country. The
distasteful reality, in which Roof did not address, is what would happen if Southern California bred
the emergence of a religious practice similar to that of polygamy in Utah? Society and the Courts have
fiercely preserved traditional American values, and would without doubt precipitously intervene.
Perhaps, religious pluralism flourished so well in Southern California because, as Roof cited,

Going Back to School as an Adult Essay
I do not believe the universe only knocks once, I believe it starts as a whisper and goes round and
round till you get it. It is usually the quiet or the unexpected moments you hear it best, though still
sometimes you might need several of those moments and a few reminders after that. It was in my most
recent semester at school where I heard how imbalanced I truly was, and if I made it my mission to
live my life in balance, to relax more and trust more, I will be more. I went back to school with the
simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education and obtaining my
degree were always important to me, since my profession requires a bachelor degree to qualify for
national certification, it was a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it would dominate the discussion and lessons and if that meant I had to mentally remove myself
mentally from the learning. Second, and instantly, I identified my self to the class as an individual
whose second language was English, and how this would hinder me. First I had to be open and
understanding of what an adult learner actually was. I came in to the class knowing I fit the criteria,
but it was not until we read and discussed a few articles on the subject that I learned what that criteria
actually was, and how it was a hinderance. In the article Adult Learning Theory it was brought to my
attention that adults, though ready to learn, come to the class with predetermined bias and
expectations. That while they come with knowledge and understanding, sometimes this is uses to
reject new information instead of build on it (Kenner, C Weinerman, J., 2011). This is exactly how I
came in to the class, assuming I knew things, ready to reject things, and would continue to
unknowingly do so. I could recognize my self and my own learning patterns here, I was always quick
to access what I already knew and easy to reject new ideas that did not fit. My fear with language is
another example of this, I had a self proclaimed language barrier, a preconceived reactionary bias that
I accepted from the knowledge I had built, creating no room to focusing on feedback and
development. It was at

Why Is The Upper Canada s Constitution Revolutionary
Starting with the Constitution Act of 1791, Canada was divided into two parts: Upper Canada and
Lower Canada. Upper Canada was where the wealthy British, known as the Family Compact, resided.
Lower Canada was where the less wealthy French resided. Although Lower Canada had its own
branch of government, known as the Legislative Assembly, it had tremendously limited power. After
many Canadians voiced their anger towards this circumstance, the Constitution of 1867 was created
(Billingsley, 2013). The constitution combined Lower Canada and Upper Canada, and it gave the
people much more rights, although it did not actually make Canada an independent country. Canada s
road to independence was, to a large extent, evolutionary and not revolutionary because it was
unoriginal and because it took much too long of a time for its changes to be considered revolutionary.

Initially, Canadians were upset because they were being taxed without any sort of representation since
the Legislative Assembly had very limited power. However, in 1775 (History.com, 2018), the United
States began a war with England because they were upset about taxation without representation as
well. Clearly, Canadians were not fighting for an original cause. In addition, Canadians desired a
government that gave more power to the Legislative Assembly. The American Revolution already
fought so that they could have a government that listened to the people, so Canada s desires were not
original either. Nothing about Canada s independence movement dramatically altered the world.
Canada s independence movement certainly benefited Canadians, which made it evolutionary, but it
simply did not have enough of an impact on the rest of the world for it to be considered

The Importance Of The G. I Bill
When military men go out for deployment, they usually struggle with physical and mental health
problems. They sometimes feel homesick and often, they feel disconnected to civilian life. The long
conflict or war usually requires them to be deployed several time and operate constantly under threat
of attack, these situations could lead to emotional problems to most of our military men. Their lives
while on service were not easy. Those who are weak do not know how to get back to their normal life.
They usually have difficulty in handling these problems. One soldier named Christopher Steavens, a
former Army staff sergeant who was among 819 vets polled. He served in Iraq in 2003 and in Kuwait
2012 where he was injured in a construction accident. He said When I raised my right hand and said, I
will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, when I gave them
everything I could, I expect the same in return, (Chandrasekaren) . Like many others in the military,
they rely on the government assistance when they get hurt or return home. The G.I Bill answered
some of the required assistances for our military men. The G. I. Bill is one of the most significant

a train ticket home. During this period, the nation economy was in great depression. Veterans found it
difficult to make a living. Although, the Congress tried to help by passing the Bonus Act, this law
provided a bonus based on the number of days of service and most veterans can only get it after 20
years. Consequently, a large group of veterans march to Washington DC to demand full payment of
their bonuses but did not get it. This made veterans situations difficult in assimilating to civilian life

National Football League Essay
The National Football League has been having some problems lately with its ratings because of the
conflict they re having is making people not want to watch. The football players exercising their right
to express what they feel about certain politics going on in the United States. The only problem is
along the way they have forgotten what they are protesting for. It started with Colin Kaepernick
expressing what he felt about the current issue in America to kneeling because it was the right thing to
do or not because it was the wrong thing to do. These protests are making fans choose the side he or
she wants to be on and splitting the fan like that is not good for the league.

Also, Colin Kaepernick is protected under federal labor laws. To be protected under federal labor law,
an employee s action must be conducted in concert with co workers. It must address an issue of
relevance to their job, and it must be carried out using appropriate means. Workers can t, say, damage
property or threaten violence. If the workers have a collective bargaining agreement with their
employer that forbids certain actions like striking they can t do that, either.
These recent protests are believed to be protected and meet all three conditions to be protected. As a
result of this the teams or players are not discipline for this even though now Colin Kaepernick is
unemployed and no NFL team wants him. They claim that it is because he is not good enough of a
quarterback but it was because of his protesting. He may have been protected but the national football
league owners found a way around it in firing him. This happens to employees too that are not in
professional teams when they are protesting against injustices but are fired anyway because owners
find another way to fire them.
After all this came to be, other players started doing this the season after and this is where the problem
arises. The national football league is splitting their fans in two thus having their rating plummet
because people do not want to watch the games. Football is not meant to separate fans but bring them
together. Fans that watch the games regularly do not want to see players

Group Project Research Paper
This is going to be a group project. Most students dread hearing those words. I know that I groan
inside because I think group projects are awkward and slightly unfair. Considering that more and more
teachers are assigning group projects more often, I decided to look into the benefits of group projects.
After doing a simple Google search, I realized that students gain many skills and learn important
lessons when doing group projects.
Group projects can be extremely beneficial to students as they prepare to enter the world of work. One
of the most important skills it teaches young adults it to collaborate and work with others. Often times,
people are going to have to work with someone they may not like. Members of the group may
disagree and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cathy Middlecamp, who writes on Teaching Stories, surveyed students on their thoughts about group
projects and observed that dictators ignore the opinions of others and piledrive their own agenda while
not allowing others to share their knowledge. Working in group projects is the opportunity for these
students to practice humility and listening skills. If you are a quieter student, speak up and let this
person know that they need to take it down a level. If you are being the controller, take a step back and
let someone else do the talking for a while. On the other side of the coin are the students who slack off
in a group project. They think that because there are others in the group they do not have to do that
much work. The less motivated students lean on the kids who are working hard to get a good grade to
get them through the class. Evidently there is going to be disagreement about approaches and
information. Some students are too stubborn to accept an opposing viewpoint and refuse to
compromise. Compromising is a skill everyone must learn! When students are allowed to choose their
own groups, the quieter students often get put into whatever group needs an extra person. Just because
the student is shy does not mean that they do not have good ideas to contribute. Make sure that

Budget Questions With My School
Sitting down and discussing budget questions with our school bookkeeper was the most chaotic 45
minutes of my school week. I always thought being the bookkeeper would be a stressful job because
of the amount of money you had to deal with and all of the things you had to keep track of it, not
because of everyday office chaos. Our bookkeeper does an exceptional job and our principal agrees
that she will probably never find someone to replace her, however with all of the other stresses I could
understand our bookkeeper leaving. While I was with Mrs. Banks there were people constantly
coming by and asking her to do things. Mrs. Banks does not have her own office and people often
treat her like a secretary. Mrs. Banks and I discussed how this is one of the main issues with her job.
She talked about how much she loved doing the budgeting and financing part of it, but how it was
extremely difficult to do this and everything else. While I was there she was trying to write six
receipts for faculty members and this took over thirty minutes, something that should take five. Every
time she went to open the receipt books someone would come in with a question (student or faculty)
and she would have to close the receipt book and put it and the money in her drawer to protect
confidentiality. She talked about how this could also cause you to misplace money if you were not
careful. She said some days she has little money and some days she has anywhere from six to eight

Cognitive Dissonance In Children
One occasion I experienced cognitive dissonance was two years ago. My son was six years old, and
his favorite thing to do was help mommy. On this particular day he surprised me with a special picnic
lunch he made himself. He fixed us both a sandwich and a glass of overly sweetened chocolate milk.
My heart swelled with his consideration and I took a huge bite out of my sandwich. I should have
checked it. Between the slices of white bread lay pickles, mustard, peanut butter, chocolate chips and
ham. The contents of my stomach argued with my mouth; it threatened expulsion if I tried to swallow.
But, that sweet face was looking up at me expectantly awaiting my delight at his creation. How could
I hurt him? I choked it down with a smile on my face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a moment too long for honesty s sake, she wanted validation for her own wants. She said it was
her body, she had every right to do what she wanted. If she wanted so have another child it was solely
her decision. Right? She wanted so badly to justify an obviously bad idea in my own opinion, she
changed the question to one I had to agree with and support. I concurred that it was her choice, as well
as her husband s. She said I was right, deciding that night to speak to her husband about trying to
conceive. We hung up and she didn t speak to me until after she gave birth. She knew what my answer
was going to be, but chose to be willfully blind. She resolved my conflicting opinion by changing the
question to one I would agree with. And I, knowing she didn t want the truth, gave her the answer she
wanted.
The most prominent account of I have endured cognitive dissonance happens frequently and involves
the same circumstances. It stems from the loss of my daughter nearly six years ago. For the most part,
I do okay, but there are moments that I relive every second of that trauma. My world shatters all over
again, taking everything in me not to completely break. People notice my demeanor has changed, my
normal upbeat behavior replaced by silence and faraway

Keats Concept Of Ambiguity In Ode To A Nightingale
Negative Capability Keats By María Andrea Moar Ares Essay question: Can an imaginative
engagement with poetry promote one s ability to tolerate ambivalence and uncertainty? In your
response, draw upon Keats s concept of Negative Capability through an analysis of any poem or
poems studied on this module. This essay deals mainly with Keats concept of Negative Capability,
which belongs to the realm of Romantic poetry, and with the question of how Negative Capability, as
one operation of the imagination, can help us to tolerate uncertainty and ambiguity. Hence,
imagination, nature, and self awareness are key points we have to go through before everything else,
since they are fundamental in the Romantic period and are important to understand ... Show more

The poetic voice feels no envy of the nightingale but admits his pain when observes the excess of joy
that infuses the bird s singing. Here we see the paradoxical relationship between pleasure and pain.
The poet wants to escape from human anguish, gray, sadness: That I might drink, and leave the world
unseen,/ And with thee fade away into the forest dim: (ll. 19 20) by meeting the bird, by making
possible a union with it through death ( hemlock and Lethe suggest decline, death rather than rapture:
hemlock is a poison when taken in larger quantities, and Lethe is a river of the underworld). Because
he did not succeed in that union as we see in the very response of the poet to the song of the
nightingale, which is based on images of decline, the poetic voice is going to try to compensate or
neutralize the death related draughts of the opening lines by replacing them with draughts of a
different kind: hard drinks. It seems the poetic voice wanted to escape the world he was living in by
getting drunk with vintage ; the image of a kind of burial, of the deep delved earth, is still there but
here it is turned into a positive image that evokes a kind of pastoral atmosphere. He suggest, also, that
wine is the true, the blushful Hippocrene which may lead us to think his aim is not getting drunk, but
getting poetic inspiration (Hippocrene is the name of a fountain on Mount Helicon sacred to the
Muses but it also allusively means poetic inspiration). He aims to get pleasure by leaving this world
with the wings of Poetry to find the Beauty, here represented by the song of the nightingale which,
like the Nightingale, is immortal: Fade far

Media Perceptions
To what extent does the UK media push negative perceptions towards Muslims?
INTRO
Muslims have occupied a central role in British media following the ongoing war on terror. As well as
featuring in issues and debates about radicalisation, immigration and oppression of women. The
representation has been largely negative throughout the 21st century and prior due to the rise of
islamophobia, has been argued by many activist groups and public figures, like Malala a Muslim girl
who was shot on a school bus by Isis. She is now a renound Activist for women and Muslim rights.

We also see the Asian Muslim shop owner, Mr Sandhu, who also plays an important part in the film.
The two ethnic minorities portray the change that was occurring in England at the time, with Milky
adopting an English culture and Mr Sandhu is taking the more multi cultural approach. This could
explain why Milky is accepted by the group (and Combo at parts), but Mr Sandhu is alienated and
victimised throughout.
This conflict was and is a true representation of the relationship between Muslims and whites, the
director Shane Meadows portrays the relationship very well.
Some even argue that this representation has made its way into children s films and cartoons. Aladdin
(1992), a report queries why a children s cartoon describes Aladdin s homeland as barbaric , and notes
that good Arabs including Aladdin are given American accents while the rest of the cast have
exaggerated and ridiculous Arab accents . This projects the view that Muslims are aggressive and evil,
already creating a negative denotation towards children at an early age.
A more recent documentary What Muslims really think (2016) sheds light on the subject from the
perspective of the Muslims themselves, a woman goes on to say that Extremism Is a very small
minority of the Muslim community it isn t stated in the Karan to be

In the book, they say I say the author, argues that not getting an education doesn t necessary mean not having a good job or a good position. I disagree. I believe education is really important. You may think you have a good job in your possession or a good secure position, but later in life when a promotional opportunity arises, you ll always fall short without the degree at your fingertips. Jobs requiring minimal or no education usually involve strenuous labor and lack the opportunities to advance. These jobs generally won t be in the office. He mentions that at some point these new employees are eventually going to inherit the necessary experience and lead the way, leaving him in the dust where he otherwise could have taken control if he had a higher education. The author will reach a certain point due to his educational limits while others with a higher education pass right by. My uncle, a motor oil engineer at a well known company, goes through the same exact thing. As a senior engineer at the plant, he doesn t get paid as much as the people above him and therefore cannot get a higher position due to his educational limitations. Even though he has more experience, he still can t do anything about it but get more education. Just the other day as I was talking to a friend of mine, a social worker for Alameda County, about school, he mentioned how he wants to get promoted but can t since he doesn t have a degree. He advised me to get as much education as possible before I find a real job. He also mentioned that when it comes to education, not to take short cuts. Stay in school as long as possible, he says, without breaking the bank as it would help me later on when I get a job. Having a higher education could be the difference between getting the job of my dreams or getting a job that I hate but still have to do it to keep me and my family alive. • 4. Search For Truth The historian and the search for truth A historian is a person who studies and writes about the past and is regarded as an authority on it. Historians are concerned with the continuous, methodical narrative and research of past events as relating to the human race; as well as the study of all history in time. History, in its broadest sense, is the totality of all past events, although a more realistic definition would limit it to the known past. Of all the fields of serious study and literary effort, history may be the hardest to define precisely, because the attempt to uncover past events and formulate an intelligible account of them necessarily involves the use and influence of many auxiliary disciplines and literary forms. The concern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be shown to correspond to experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments. E. H. Carr in his 1961 volume, what is History? argues that the inherent biases from the gathering of facts makes the objective truth of any historical perspective idealistic and impossible. Facts are, like fish in the Ocean, of which we may only happen to catch a few, only an indication of what is below the surface. Even a dragnet cannot tell us for certain what it would be like to live below the Ocean s surface. Even if we do not discard any facts (or fish) presented, we will always miss the majority; the site of our fishing, the methods undertaken, the weather and even luck play a vital role in what we will catch. Additionally, the composition of history is inevitably made up by the compilation of many different bias of fact finding all compounded over time. He concludes that for a historian to attempt a more objective method, one must accept that history can only aspire to a conversation of the present with the past and that one s methods of fact gathering should be openly examined. As with science, historical truth and facts will therefore change over time and reflect only the present consensus (if that). A historical fact is a fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of Nella Larsen And Chester Himes Essay Nella Larsen and Chester Himes both published novels in the first half of the twentieth century that deal with Black characters passing for white. Particularly because the race of some characters is fairly ambiguous in Larsen s novel, members of the Black race as defined here will include those with any known Black ancestry. Therefore race is being defined with respect to the one drop rule, which dictates that any small presence of African ancestry requires individuals to be granted a hypo descendent racial status. This decision came about because both novels are set and were published during a time when legal racial status largely determined individuals economic power in order to maintain Jim Crow segregation (Davis 17 19). Given this definition of Blackness, both Larsen s Passing and Himes If He Hollers deal with the concept of Blacks passing as white. Himes Robert Bob Jones and Alice Harrison, and Larsen s Irene Redfield and Clare Bellew are all Black characters who are able to pass at some point. On the surface, this is possible simply because those characters all have very light skin. However, it is also true that those same characters either have an apparent respectable status, or both money and a respectable status. This status is determined by such traits as dialect and speech, as well as expensive clothes. These factors all influence whether or not the light skinned Black characters are able to pretend to be white in white spaces. Though they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Arguments Against Eugenics The ability to promote or enhance certain capacities in the hope to develop a superior human race connotes science fiction as well as fantasy, however the study of eugenics proves that this act of fiction has the potential to be reality. Eugenics, or good breeding as Sir Francis Galton would say, is a controversial topic due to the deliberation of whether its benefits outweigh the toll that it takes on humankind. The process of eugenics can be viewed as humans ability to control the Natural Selection process, which is the survival and reproduction of organisms with the best adaptations, such as a tree frog s adaptation of different colouring to better blend in with their surroundings to avoid predators. Scientific experimentation seeks to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Huxley believed that the use of eugenics was a necessity to provide a solution to the problem of overpopulation. Due to fear of a complete erosion of the world s resources, Huxley sought to use eugenics as a means to control and regulate population increase and to achieve some sort of balance between reproduction and production instead of uninhibited expansion (Scarfe, 2018a, 3). In order to successfully protect the human race from these impending horrors Huxley theorised a eu selective program which utilizes Negative and Positive Eugenics as tools to administer change. Negative Eugenics is the enforcement of preventative actions such as sterilization to intentionally eradicate humans who are born with abnormalities, genetic diseases, and mental deficiencies (Scarfe, 2018a, 2). In contrast, Positive Eugenics would encourage individuals who Huxley deemed genetically well endowed to reproduce in order to improve the human species as a whole. Several strategies that Huxley proposed to enforce Negative Eugenics include, the diminishment of social services such as public health care programs, or financial assistance for families who do not have desirable genetics, voluntary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare expanded what could be accomplished through characterization, plot and genre. At the time plays were with characters and plots that were symbolic rather than realistic. Shakespeare made changes that resonated on emotional levels with audiences. In a play like Hamlet... Shakespeare integrated characterization with plot in a matter that plot becomes dependent upon the development of characters. ( ). In Romeo and Juliet, the new genre romantic tragedy was created. Shakespeare mixed tragedy and comedy to create the genre. The romance genre had not been a topic under tragedy prior to Shakespeare doing this. Shakespeare s main categories had included: tragedies, comedies and histories. Shakespeare had written 37 plays, 2 narrative poems, and 154 sonnets. All of these works were created in a time span of approximately 30 years. He was the first at the time to merge together: verse, poetry and drama. He used a blank verse his whole career and perfecting the way we see it today. With the combination of those three, the beginning of the modernization of English literature was marked. Shakespeare gave us new ways to express hope, despair and sorrow with his styles of writing. The English language was also enriched by Shakespeare as he made it more expressive and colorful. ... He is credited with introducing nearly 3,000 words to the English language. ( ). • 11. Much Ado About Nothing Lies Analysis Much Ado About Nothing Essay Lying is complicated in that the effects of it vary based on the motivations and character of the one who tells it. This is prominently displayed in William Shakespeare s play Much Ado About Nothing with foil characters Don Pedro and Don John. Don Pedro is motivated by the idea of being a good friend, and, as a result, his lies have a positive effect on those affected. In contrast, Don John, the play s antagonist, is motivated by revenge to lie. When he lies, these falsehoods have negative consequences, which mirror his intentions. This lie is similar to the lie in which he uses deceit to get Claudio and Hero together in the first place. Afterward, Benedick says to Beatrice: There is nothing in the world I love as much as you. (V,iv,95) [1] Don Pedro s lie, in contrast to Don John s, has the rather positive effect of Benedick and Beatrice falling in love. The positive effects of Don Pedro s trickery mirrors his intentions helpful. In contrast, Don John tricks Claudio into thinking Hero is unfaithful the night before their wedding, much like how he tricked Claudio into thinking Don Pedro took Hero for himself. Because of this, Claudio accuses: She knows the heat of a luxurious bed. Her Blush is of guiltiness, not modesty. (IV,i,35) Claudio publicly accuses Hero of adultery, one of the most heinous crimes of the time, and, at least temporarily, ruins their relationship based on Don John s lie. Similar to Don Pedro s example, the effect of the malicious act matches perfectly with Don John s evil intentions and his meddling character. How Did Religion Influence Ancient Egypt The geographical location and the surrounding environment of Egypt heavily influenced the people of Ancient Egypt s spiritual life and their religious belief in a multitude of ways. The Vietnam War s contraversiality spurred a great many sources of protest, against our government s use of power, how far we could stretch the rights of free expression, and primarily against the violence of the war itself. One of the most prevelant type of protests were based on the imparting of knowledge. These were known as teach ins. The teach ins were really the first step in raising conciousness to the impact the war could have(Fever, 11). They were the first things to get people informed and involved. Starting with teach ins during the spring of 1965, the massive antiwar efforts centered on the colleges, with the students playing leading roles. These teach ins were mass public demonstrations, usually held in the spring and fall seasons. The teach in movement was at first, a gentle approach to the antiwar activity (Gettleman, 54). Teach ins were one important way to bring more people into the antiwar movement. During a teach in, students, faculty members, and guest speakers discussed issues concerning the Vietnam war (McCormick, 37). The teach ins began at the University of Michigan in March of 1965, and spread to other campuses, including Wisconsin in April. These protests at some of America s most well known universities attracted the public eye. A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common language of English, a religion based on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did not conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. Upper Canada was where the wealthy British, known as the Family Compact, resided. Lower Canada was where the less wealthy French resided. Although Lower Canada had its own branch of government, known as the Legislative Assembly, it had tremendously limited power. After many Canadians voiced their anger towards this circumstance, the Constitution of 1867 was created (Billingsley, 2013). The constitution combined Lower Canada and Upper Canada, and it gave the people much more rights, although it did not actually make Canada an independent country. Between the slices of white bread lay pickles, mustard, peanut butter, chocolate chips and ham. The contents of my stomach argued with my mouth; it threatened expulsion if I tried to swallow. But, that sweet face was looking up at me expectantly awaiting my delight at his creation. How could I hurt him? I choked it down with a smile on my face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If she wanted so have another child it was solely her decision. Right? She wanted so badly to justify an obviously bad idea in my own opinion, she changed the question to one I had to agree with and support. I concurred that it was her choice, as well as her husband s. She said I was right, deciding that night to speak to her husband about trying to conceive. We hung up and she didn t speak to me until after she gave birth. She knew what my answer was going to be, but chose to be willfully blind. She resolved my conflicting opinion by changing the question to one I would agree with. • 32. Keats Concept Of Ambiguity In Ode To A Nightingale Negative Capability Keats By María Andrea Moar Ares Essay question: Can an imaginative engagement with poetry promote one s ability to tolerate ambivalence and uncertainty? In your response, draw upon Keats s concept of Negative Capability through an analysis of any poem or poems studied on this module. This essay deals mainly with Keats concept of Negative Capability, which belongs to the realm of Romantic poetry, and with the question of how Negative Capability, as one operation of the imagination, can help us to tolerate uncertainty and ambiguity. Hence, imagination, nature, and self awareness are key points we have to go through before everything else, since they are fundamental in the Romantic period and are important to understand ... Here we see the paradoxical relationship between pleasure and pain. The poet wants to escape from human anguish, gray, sadness: That I might drink, and leave the world unseen,/ And with thee fade away into the forest dim: (ll. 19 20) by meeting the bird, by making possible a union with it through death ( hemlock and Lethe suggest decline, death rather than rapture: hemlock is a poison when taken in larger quantities, and Lethe is a river of the underworld). Because he did not succeed in that union as we see in the very response of the poet to the song of the nightingale, which is based on images of decline, the poetic voice is going to try to compensate or neutralize the death related draughts of the opening lines by replacing them with draughts of a different kind: hard drinks. It seems the poetic voice wanted to escape the world he was living in by getting drunk with vintage ; the image of a kind of burial, of the deep delved earth, is still there but here it is turned into a positive image that evokes a kind of pastoral atmosphere. He suggest, also, that wine is the true, the blushful Hippocrene which may lead us to think his aim is not getting drunk, but getting poetic inspiration (Hippocrene is the name of a fountain on Mount Helicon sacred to the Muses but it also allusively means poetic inspiration). He aims to get pleasure by leaving this world with the wings of Poetry to find the Beauty, here represented by the song of the nightingale which, like the Nightingale, is immortal: Fade far ... • 33. Media Perceptions To what extent does the UK media push negative perceptions towards Muslims? INTRO Muslims have occupied a central role in British media following the ongoing war on terror. As well as featuring in issues and debates about radicalisation, immigration and oppression of women. The representation has been largely negative throughout the 21st century and prior due to the rise of islamophobia, has been argued by many activist groups and public figures, like Malala a Muslim girl who was shot on a school bus by Isis. She is now a renound Activist for women and Muslim rights. The media is seen not only as transferring information and ideas but also as shaping opinions and presenting particular versions of reality (Gurevitch, et al, 1995). ... The two ethnic minorities portray the change that was occurring in England at the time, with Milky adopting an English culture and Mr Sandhu is taking the more multi cultural approach. This could explain why Milky is accepted by the group (and Combo at parts), but Mr Sandhu is alienated and victimised throughout. This conflict was and is a true representation of the relationship between Muslims and whites, the director Shane Meadows portrays the relationship very well. Some even argue that this representation has made its way into children s films and cartoons. Aladdin (1992), a report queries why a children s cartoon describes Aladdin s homeland as barbaric , and notes that good Arabs including Aladdin are given American accents while the rest of the cast have exaggerated and ridiculous Arab accents . This projects the view that Muslims are aggressive and evil, already creating a negative denotation towards children at an early age. A more recent documentary What Muslims really think (2016) sheds light on the subject from the perspective of the Muslims themselves, a woman goes on to say that Extremism Is a very small minority of the Muslim community it isn t stated in the Karan to be ...
