Simpsons and Philosophy
Simpson s and Philosophy
In the chapter Thus Spake Bart: On Nietzsche and the Virtues of Being Bad, Mark T. Conard
shows us why people believe Bart Simpson is similar to a philosophical theorist named Friedrich
Nietzsche. Bart being the bad boy of the Simpson s and Nietzsche being the bad boy of
Philosophy. Conard says that Bart does not take on the chaos like Nietzsche says but he is just an
empty being of bad actions. This argument is ridiculous; Bart Simpson is as creative as creative gets.
In this chapter, Conard is first shows us how people consider Bart as Nietzsche like character
because he does not try to change the world of chaos and confusion but he accepts it and makes art
out of his life. Nietzsche views also point out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for a better life for African Americans and that is exactly what
happened. But do you think that King wanted African Americans to be represented the way they
are today in our world. African American males are killing each other off in record numbers;
this is so far from what King was trying to... The enemy is no longer the southern bigot but the
enemy is the man in the mirror. I am not trying to say that Gandhi and King lead pointless lives
all I am saying is that the world is filled with bad and no matter how much good you do once you
stop preaching the bad comes back That is exactly the way that Bart and Nietzsche think they are
worried about living a pointless life so they go with all the bad in the world and run with it. They
want their actions to artistically bring out what the world is really made up of.
On the other hand of Bart is his sister Lisa. Lisa lives the conformist life; trying to change the
world with her music and preaching to everyone, especially Bart, about their wrong doing.
Sometimes you almost think that Lisa should not even be a Simpson but rather be a part of the
Flanders family. During the show Lisa does many noble things like trying get Mr. Burns to stop
his greed, or conform Bart but in the end everyone goes back to who they are and Lisa chalks it
up as another loss. This is the kind of life that Nietzsche tried to steer people

Eyewitness Testimony Research Paper
Eyewitness Testimony The use of the eyewitness testimony has always been viewed as one of the
most reliable forms of evidence when it comes to the court system. Recently many cases have been
brought up where the use of the eyewitness testimony has failed and put an innocent citizen into jail
leaving the criminal on the loose and a threat to the population. This has caused eyewitness
testimonyto go from a reliable source to a controversial subject for many. The eyewitness testimony
should not be used because memory is corrupted after a certain length of time, interviews push
eyewitnesses to identify a subject, and lineups further confuse the witness. The article Juror

Cesar Chavez Struggles
Many leaders in Unites States are remembered for their hard and memorable work like Cesar
Chaves. He was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist, who had one of
the most influential boycott in the US. Cesar grew up on a farm but shortly after his family lost
their farm due to the Great Depression. The familymoves to California to work in the fields. As a
child Cesar only finished 8th grade because the family needed money to survive, he was forced to
work in the fields daily, for long hours. Right after WWII ended he joined the navy for two years.
After his return to California, Cesar helped farmers gain respect and dignity that they deserved.

Developing, Using Organising Resources Within the lifelong Learning Sector TASK 37 NAME:
STUDENT ID: DATE: Table of Contents 1. Understand the purpose and use of resources 1.1
Explain the purpose of resources in teaching and learning Different types of resources are used in
lifelong learning process so that the knowledge of the learners can be practiced and their learning
can be progressed. The learners level of understanding and the areas they find difficult can be
assessed and identified by providing them with the resources. Moreover, the learners with learning
difficulties can be provided with differentiated tasks and additional support by providing resources.

The duties and roles that have to be carried out by a resource developer are explained by the
figure above. Individual needs of every student have to be identified and plans have to be
developed in order to satisfy the learning needs of all learners. The next step is to design the
resources according to the individual needs that are identified and deliver those resources to the
learners. Once the task in completed by the learners the resource developer then can assess their
performance which will automatically enable the resource developed to identify the effectiveness
of his resources. According to the information given by Turkish online journal of education
technology (2009), two student groups are surveyed where one group of students provided with
the lower level of teaching resources while second group of students are provided with the higher
level of teaching resources. The surveys identified that the students who are provided with higher
level of teaching resources have got much more positive outcome comparing to the other group of
students. We have found that when technologies are thoughtfully integrated with a sound
pedagogical vision, students views of teaching and approaches to learning can be positively
affected. The LeTUS report series (2003) also shows how important it is for the teachers to

The Importance Of Inter-Professional And Inter-Agency...
The term inter professional and inter agency collaboration (IPIAC) was developed by Whittington
et al (2009) to convey the importance of collaboration at professional and agency level. https:/
/www.basw.co.uk/resources/tcsw/CG%20 %20Interprofessional%20collaboration.pdf This term
helps to identify how the services and professionals can work effectively together, including
working with service users and carers.
The PCF emphasises the importance of learning about inter professional work practice as it is
essential component of good social work practice.

IPIAC develops an integrated approach to the organisation and delivery of services reducing
inequalities and social exclusions, helping to reduce the barriers for working together (Quinne).
There are some examples of IPIAC such as Youth Offending Teams which are part of the local
council and work with the police, probation officers, health, housing and children services, schools
and education authorities, charities and the local community trying to help young people to stay
away from crime.

Why British Men Enlisted in the British Army in 1914 Essay
Why British Men Enlisted in the British Army in 1914
When Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, Europe erupted. The Austro Hungarian
Empire invaded Serbia; Russia sends troops to its borders with Austria and Hungary. Germany
declares war on Russia and France and marches into Belgium and Britain declares war with
Germany and her allies. Although Britain already had a well trained professional army, it was far
too small to be able to stand a chance against the huge German army that was more than three
times its size. As a result of this Lord Kitchener immediately went on a recruiting campaign calling
on all men aged between 19 and 30 to enlist in the British Army. There was a huge response, ...

Posters were very effective and created a picture of Germans who would run their bayonets through
women and rape them.
Lord Derby had the idea of pals battalions , these were battalions of people who volunteered to join
the army in the same area. This scheme inspired local and civic pride, this meant that soldiers
would not just be fighting for the British Empire, but for their town or city and friend and family.
This was particularly effective as it encouraged friend to enlist at the same time, if one was left
behind there would be no one they new. It had a similar effect as peer pressure if you did not
join up you considered a coward by your friends. This worked well in North England and
Scotland, where places like Hull raised four regiments and three regiments from Liverpool went
over the top of the trenches on the first day.
Women too played a vital role in the recruitment process. The Order of the White Feather was a
group that encouraged women to hand out white feathers to men not in uniform in public as a
sign of cowardice the white feather being a symbol a coward. This really pushed men to go as
they would not want to be seen as a coward in public. The suffragists used their considerable
publicity machine to call on men to join the army. The mothers union produced posters urging
mothers to get their sons to enlist. Some posters published by

Upon taking my political party quizzes, it was evident that I was a liberal Democrat. This didn t

care or government programs that provide them financial benefits. If elected, I promise to
introduce support programs for women where they can feel appreciated for their hard work and
some place where they don t feel like they are alone. I also promise to work with public schools
to create cheap and beneficial after school programs where children can have a nurturing
environment and complete their homework for the day, easing the burden on their mothers
when they come back from work. After all, Sara McLanahan from The American Prospect writes
that Some people claimed that growing up in a fatherless home was the major cause of child
poverty, delinquency, and school failure and they are twice as likely to drop out of high school,
2.5 times as likely to become teen mothers, and 1.4 times as likely to be idle out of school and
out of work as children who grow up with both parents (McLanahan 1 2). Therefore, I promise to
give children all the support they need, including education support, financial support like giving
them a wide array of job opportunities, and creating programs where they can learn more about

In King Henry Iv, How Has Shakespeare Portrayed the...
Hal and Hotspur are the two most compared characters in Shakespeare s King Henry IV: Part 1
because of the many similarities and differences that are portrayed by Shakespeare. The audience
is presented with many aspects about each character very early on in the play, and it is then that
they create expectations which can either be confirmed or contradicted as the play goes on.
Shakespeare usually portrays a character through the use of literary and dramatic techniques
throughout his work, either subtle or obvious. In this particular text, he has used a range of textual
techniques to portray the characteristic of arrogance shared by both, portray Hotspur s great
honour, as well as Hal s notable dishonour, and the ways that the two contrast.... Show more content

Another way that Shakespeare portrays Hotspur as being an honourable character is in the very
way that he speaks. Throughout the play, Hotspur talks in the sophisticated prose form, an
example being But I remember when the fight was done,/ When I was dry with rage and extreme
toil,/ breathless and faint, leaning upon my sword... The fact that Shakespeare has chosen for
Hotspur to use prose when he talks suggests to us that he is able to speak very well with such a
fiery passion about honourable things, like battles. In the given example, Hotspur uses such a
colourful description of the aftermath of a battle, not to say how extremely well he fought, but
giving a more modest account on how worn out he was, thus Shakespeare reinforces the aspect of
honour in his character. Shakespeare has utilized techniques like foreshadowing, contrasting, setting
and language to portray Hal as dishonourable. Shakespeare portrays Hal from the beginning as
being dishonourable and unruly through the use of foreshadowing that is used by other characters.
After talking about how honourable Hotspur is, King Henry IV contrasts him with his own son;
riot and dishonour stain the brow/ of my young Harry. The heavy contrast here foreshadows Hal s
character as being that of dishonour because we have just been given an image, through
foreshadowing, about how grand Hotspur s honour is, then King Henry gives and

Quantum Dots Lab Report
Pre Lab for the Quantum Dots Lab

Goal: Synthesize Cadmium Selenide (CdSe) Quantum Dot Crystals using Cadmium Oxide (CdO)
and Selenium (Se) dissolved in Triphenylphosphine solution. The product created will be a
colloidal solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the
octadecene (Boatman Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well
due to the changes in wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal.
The variations in particle size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal
is to use diverse size particles. The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered
out since they do not settle.
Background of the Chemistry: Cadmium Selenide is an inorganic compound that is widely used for
research on nanoparticles. Cadmium Oxide is an inorganic compound that is mostly used for
creating other cadmium compounds because it crystallizes in a lattice like that of NaCl. Selenium
is an element that has nonmetal properties, but it is rarely ever found in its pure state, it is often
found as a compound. Both, selenium and cadmium are used to synthesize the CdSe used in this
experiment. Although these materials can be very hazardous, it has been proven that using these
items are the best option for this synthesis. The reasoning for this includes the temperature needed
to grow them and they have higher

The role of the EAP tutor transcends the limited framework of language teaching, to involve

The Painting Essay
The Painting
A picture can paint a thousand words. I found the one picture in my mind that does paint a
thousand words and more. It was a couple of weeks ago when I saw this picture in the writing
center; the writing center is part of State College. The beautiful colors caught my eye. I was so
enchanted by the painting, I lost the group I was with. When I heard about the observation essay,
where we have to write about a person or thing in the city that catches your eye. I knew right away
that I wanted to write about the painting. I don t know why, but I felt that the painting was
describing the way I felt at that moment.

The grass was spread out through the whole painting. If you looked hard enough you can see
flowers of pink and red growing within the grass. There were spots of yellow in the grass
making the grass look as though it was dying. Then the painting had a patch of grass that had a
very vibrant shade of green, that made the grass look so alive. The grass had a willowy quality
that may have suggested that there may have been a breeze.
The river also suggested a breeze, there were ripples that flowed southeast. There were many
different shades of blue in the lake and river. The lake had a darker shade of light blue surrounded
by a dark blue then lined with black. The lake appeared to have a light shining either on top or
the bottom of it, which allowed you to see the grass growing under it. The river had a lighter
shade of light blue with white lines to show the ripples but it was surrounded with the same colors
as the lake. You did not see any grass growing under the river because there was no light shining on
the river.
When I saw the painting for the first time it grabbed my attention. At first I thought it was the
beautiful colors that attracted me to the painting, but it was more. In the picture the shadowy men
look scared. They looked as though they were trying to run away from something and this lake
that forms into this river that is surrounded by tall grass is the way out, or at least a place to hide
until the coast is clear. During that time in my life I felt

Darcy And Collins Proposal Essay
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be
in want of a wife, this quote is the first line of Pride and Prejudice, which also stands as a
summary for the entire plot of the story: marriage. This plot involves many key events, two of the
most important being Darcy s proposal to Elizabeth and Collins proposal to Elizabeth.
Within both proposals, Darcy and Collins are confident that Elizabeth will accept. Mr. Collins is
Elizabeth s cousin who is next in line to receive the Bennet estate. This reason, with the fact that
his patroness, Lady Catherine, wants him to pursue a wife, is why he proposed to Elizabeth, and
with the estate circumstances, why he assumed she would say yes. Darcy s proposal is similar in
the way that he takes into account how the marriage would be of benefit to Elizabeth and her
family, financially and socially. Both Collins and Darcy speak in a way that comes across as
arrogance. They both take it upon themselves to emphasize the benefits marriage to ... Show more

Elizabeth s sister, Jane, as well as her family. Collin s takes the initiative to state why he is in

Good vs. Evil Albert Einstein once said, God did not create evil. Just as darkness is the absence
of light, evil is the absence of God. During WWII, many horrific atrocities were committed by
the Axis Powers, specifically Nazi Germany. Germany, Japan, and Italy represent the evil side of
the war, while the Allied Powers consisting of Russia, France, and Britain represented the good
side attempting to overcome the evil. More precisely, the two main characters in The Scarlet and

Contrary to the forces of evil represented in the film, the forces of good were led by Monsignor O
Flaherty, an Irish clergy man who ran an underground organization while Nazi Germanyoccupied
Rome. It was not a one man show however, because O Flaherty had the help of Ms. Francesca
Lombardo and other Romans in his operations. Throughout the course of the movie, Monsignor
had many successes in his operation, even with the attempts by Kappler to destroy the group
because O Flaherty had clever plans and several disguises. In the larger picture, the forces of
good were symbolized by the Allies. As the war progressed, these forces of good had success as
they pushed down into Italy and overcame German resistance. When the Allies finally entered
Rome in the summer of 1944, Monsignor joined the celebration of liberation and the conquering
of the forces of evil in Italy. The forces of good had their successes but also had their failures. For

What the boy did not know, however, was that his dad has a remote starter for the car. Appealing
to his son s fantasies, the father makes his son believe that he could actually use the force to start
the car. During the entirety of the commercial and in between all of the scenes, the use of
classical persuasions can be easily detected such as the use of nostalgia. The Star Wars movies
have a cult following which has members from all generations new and old. This explains why this
commercial would have such a drastic effect on anyone that loved the Star Wars franchise as a kid
and continued to grow up loving it. This reminiscence caused by these movies causes people to
relate with good memories of their adolescence which creates a stronger emotional bond between
the viewer and the car company. With this new emotional bond created, it now connects the viewer
with the car company. This connection then creates emotion within the viewer that could sway their
opinion on which car they might test drive first. Another connection this commercial manifests is
an important connection between each viewer. Common experiences between people viewing the
advertisement help to generate a good rapport with the people that relate to this commercial on a
personal level. This then creates buzz about the brand, in this case, Volkswagen, by the spreading of
the commercial on social media and various news and TV outlets.

The Colonization Of African Countries
Africa had been known as the dark continent considering Europeans knew little of its culture or
background. Europeans sought control over Africa because of its natural resources and plantation.
By 1914 almost all of Africa was colonized by Europeans, with Britain and France being the biggest
colonizers. The imperialization in Africaby European countries have had a significant impact on the
continent and its indigenous people. The colonization of African countries has had a negative
effect, as the native Africans were treated poorly in the Belgian Congo, resources were exploited
for the benefit of the Europeans and African culture was lost.
In 1884, Europeans met in Berlin, Germany to set rules for dividing Africa into colonies, this
consultation is known as the Berlin Conference. Belgium was one of the smallest European
colonizers, who colonized the large country of Congo. The Europeans believed that the Africans
were inferior and felt the need to civilize their population. Social Darwinism is the classification
of humans into species races based on hair, skin, etc, with no scientific support to this conclusion.
According to this theory the different human species are not equally evolved. The stronger, more
evolved species will dominate, as it is natural for the strong to control the weak. Many of the
Europeans believed this concept, certain they were the dominate race (Pearson 1900). Natives were
enslaved, overworked, exploited in the Belgian Congo. Leopold had

Goals And Characteristics Of A Crime Investigation
examples of such detectives are Sherlock Holmes with his assistant Dr Watson and our own
Indian private investigator Pradosh Chandra Mitter or simply Feluda with his assistant cousin
Topshe. There is no case on earth for them which is unsolvable and they are never defeated
except Sherlock Holmes who was defeated by a lady in the story The Scandal of Bohemia . They
are very well aware and are thorough of their approach and their cases involve little or no violence
at all. Thus these fictional detectives stand out in achieving their goals and objectives.

For example in the book in chapter 49 he mentions about how his friend Mark managed to
complete his huge office work in a single day to receive his awaited reward. Grylls said that if
everyone works at their highest level they could charge down many goals in less time and they
could start enjoying their desired life after accomplishing their goals (Grylls 188). That example
was really motivating to the reader and causes the reader to work at his highest level. He also
explains the effectiveness of working at highest level. Grylls s suggestions in the book are
realistic and effective. Grylls s suggestions are realistic because he discuss about his own
personal experiences to support his ideas, for example in chapter nine he mentions about when
he got selected for SAS. His commander said that in fact, but what makes our work here special
is your ability to give that little bit extra when most simply give up (Grylls 46). That was his own
personal life example which makes his ideas realistic. His suggestions are effective because his

The Breakdown Of The Traditional Family Division Of...
During the late 20th century, the world has witnessed all sorts of social and technological changes
due to globalisation (Bologun, Sutherland and Oswick, 2015). In fact, the breakdown of the
traditional family division of labour, instant communication through technology, and the increased
complexity of organisational objectives have favour gender equality and diversity. Those changes
have pressure companies to improve their work structure to be more competitive and to the extent
that the idea of an effective leadershiphas come under pressure to change too. Indeed, organisations

They found out that female and male leaders have equal concern for the task. However, women
manifest more concern for an interpersonal relationship than men (Eagly and
Johannesen‐Schmidt, 2001). Moreover, using Blake and Mouton (1964) framework, women
show a more democratic (or participative) style, which facilitates collaboration, and less autocratic
(or directive) style, that don t enhance followers creativity. Thus, according to the contemporary
standard, women manifested more appropriate traits for being an effective leader.
Furthermore, Eagly and Carli (2003) also conclude that female leader were more transformational
and applied contingent reward behaviours which is one of transactional leadership component.
Conversely, male leaders were more likely to involve two other aspects of transactional
leadership which are active management by exception (waiting for a follower s mistake to
corrected it) and passive management by exception (waiting for issues to become severe before
solving it). Men also show a relatively high interest in laissez faire leadership. That different
categorization of leadership style became popular by Burns in 1978 and then Bass in 1985.

Dumb And Dumber Rhetorical Analysis
After performing my informative speech, I immediately felt relieved. Mainly because I finally
completed the assignment. I felt a little nervous and shaky, but I practiced so I knew I wasn t
going to mess up that majorly. I went over it several times and changed a variety of things. I
couldn t really think of any visuals except for the video. So at first I had music behind every
point I had. Each song was planned appropriately for the topic of the point. Then, though, I knew
that would be a hassle to deal with between points, especially because I was already over on my

Another was his early life because countless of people don t know he s from Canada or how he

Coupled with imagery, Coffee rust is described through numerous biological factors such as its life
cycle, and its survival rate in Coffea arabica, and Coffea canephora (Arabica Coffee and robusta
coffee). The article discusses a quick overview of coffee s popularity and previous names for
coffee rust, dating as far back as the 1860s. An analysis of the pathogen s biology is covered,
discussing how the infection begins and how it reduces the survivability of the plant. Germination
is the real threat since this fungus can quickly spread in 24 48 hour, especially in wet and humid
weather. On top of that, another fungus, known as Verticillium hemileiae, can come along and
colonize the coffee rust lesions. But even then, it doesn t help the plant survive.
Fungi are fascinating, yet terrifying organisms. The text does a good job of describing how they
operate (through spores) and long does it affect the plant in the short term (rust that causes the ...

can foster toxic leaders. SF is susceptible to toxic leadership for this same reason. A sergeant major
will crush a group of teammates who try to solve their toxic leadership issue through collective

The wearing of clothing is exclusively a human characteristic and a feature of human societies. It is
not known when humans began wearing clothes. Anthropologists believe that animal skins as well

The Mutation Of The Horror Genre
Kalmina (Alex) Wu Josh Jackson Media Studies 10 30 September 2014 The Mutation of the Horror
Genre Horror can be defined as a genre meant to psychologically trigger individual fear with the
presence of certain supernatural or abstract characteristics. The genre is dependent on people s
fascination with unrealism and the sensation that comes from experiencing fear personified into
tangible elements on a screen. Horror films have thrilled audiences for decades, revealing stories of
the more sinister parts of life. The popular allure that stems from the genre comes from the tension
moviegoers experience when aroused by specific stimuli uniquely present in these cinematic
features (Walters). Over time, as the genre progressed, the standardized elements found in a typical
horror movie began to shift in different directions primarily due to changing societal circumstances
and increasing consumer demand for cinematic innovation. The expansive nature of the different
codes and conventions within the horror genre, coupled with the evolution of society s fascination
with these characteristics, has led to the mutation of the genre itself in order to allow for unique
approaches to a familiar style in response to both economic developments and taste shifts within the
consumer industry. Definitions of horror tend to emphasize the psychological effect it has on
audiences. Specifically, they highlight the internal terror that arises from encountering threats to
existence. According to

The fifth goal is to increase maternal health in countries with a focus on reducing the maternal
mortality rate by three fourths and universal access to reproductive health both by 2015. Despite a
43% reduction in maternal deaths since 1990, there are still a large number of women who die
during childbirth from preventable causes such as hemorrhaging (United Nations, 2015, p. 38).
In 2002 Afghanistan reported a baseline figure of 1,600 deaths per 100,000 with a 2015 targeted
reduction to 315 (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 2013, p. 53). While Afghanistan was able to
reach the original goal it had set for itself, new goals were created to combat the continuous high
number of maternal deaths. Afghanistan has identified general lack of family planning, a limited
supply of qualified midwives, and limited access to health care in general as contributing factors
towards such high maternal death rates. The state has been working with UNICEF, WHO, and other
international partners to implement its National Reproductive health strategy to help combat the
conditions in which Afghanistan mothers find themselves.
Goal 6
The sixth goal is to combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases, focusing on reversing their spread and
providing universal access to treatment. We have seen progress made in most countries towards
achieving this goal, with the statistics falling every day, however, we are far from the finish line as
a little over 2 million people still contract AIDS/HIV.

The Importance Of Human Rights
Human Rights
Making a fearless advance in children s rights, Mother Jones led a valiant march to defend human
rights, because of her love of children, and Cesar Chavez and Aminatou Haidar stood up for causes
that they experienced themselves. Cesar Chavez created the UFW to improve the lives of migrant
farm workers, and Aminatou Haidar staged a series of nonviolent protests to encourage the
independence of Western Sahara. Mother Jones enacted change when she drew national attention to
the harsh working conditions of children working in textile and mill factories. This is supported
when Josephson states, They would march the mill children all the way to the president of the
United States Theodore Roosevelt. Mother Jones wanted the president to get Congress to pass a
law that would take children out of the mills, mines, and factories, and put them in school. This
shows Mother Jones s determination to change society and improve human rights. She faced many
challenges, such as the disapproval of her belief and speeches. Also during her march, many
people gave up and went home, so her crowd looked weaker. She also faced the rejection of her
proposed law that would stop children from working in dangerous places at young ages by the
president. Secret service officers thought she was a threat to the president (Josephson). Even
though she faced rejection, she still made an impact on children s rights and she helped shape the
world for how it is today. It is important to defend

Voyeurism In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window (1954), is a psychological thriller that addresses themes of
voyeurism as well as morality and ethics. The film is centered around L.B. Jeffries, an action
photographer who is wheelchair bound following an accident that has left him with a broken leg.
Stuck within the confides of his apartment, he finds pleasure observing the lives of his neighbors
through his rear window. Things change for Jeffries when he believes that he has witnessed the
murder of one of his neighbours. This essay analyzes the concluding fifteen minutes of the film, in
which many of the films overarching questions are answered. Alfred Hitchcockuses the characters in
Rear Window to control the emotions of the audience, he does this by projecting the emotions of
characters onto the viewers. This raises questions of the morality and consequences of voyeurism,
as well as questions of human curiosity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The costume design of the character Jeff is that he is wears a cast on his leg, which is due to a
photography injury that has left him with a broken leg. The cast in this scene represents the
helplessness of that Jeff is feeling. While he is watching Lisa enter the Thorwald apartment, he is
visibly frustrated because there is nothing he can do to help her. The audience experiences this
feeling when Thorwald returns to find Lisa and attacks Lisa. Hitchcock makes the audience have
the same feelings as Jeff, the audience fears for the safety of Lisa and can sympathize with Jeff.
However, the behavior of Lisa and Jeff raises questions of morality. Jeff has good intentions; he
wants to know if Thorwald is indeed a murder. But At what point does this go too far? This is an
example of how Hitchcock controls the

Chapter 8 Of Blown To Bits
The Telecommunications Act of 1934 which makes it illegal for people to call without disclosing
their identity with an intent to harass was new to me. I was never told this, though it has been put
in law for over 80 years. This makes me more confident the next time I pick up my phone. 3.
Describe at least one connection between the reading and topics from outside class (other classes,
news stories you ve seen, etc.)? Just a while ago, Snapchat has been sued by a 14 year old boy and
his mother because Snapchat routinely showed sexual content without any warning. Though the
terms and agreements state that you must be at least 13 to use the app, the content on snapchat can
be highly explicit. Many parents are unaware of this and are currently... Show more content on

The history of the radio and its future was all unusually new to me even though I took physics.
The chapter made me think a bit more about which waves are around me, the radio stations, and
other ways we could put them into different systems and finally, how all of this can be put
together into bits. 3. Describe at least one connection between the reading and topics from
outside class (other classes, news stories you ve seen, etc.)? Radio has not been the only
technology that has been slowed down because of the government, many different technologies
such as internet has not reached its full potential. Not only is it regulated by the government, but
there are only a couple of internet service providers. Fortunately, Google has created its own
internet, Google Fiber, but it is not in every location so many are stuck with their service
providers and the bundle deal ( phone, internet, and TV). 4. Give at least one specific example of
an aspect or experience in your personal life that is related to the reading. When I was younger, I
went on trips to Florida. I always wondered why the radio would stop working in some places and
how radio stations could sometimes collide with each other. This chapter explained why collisions
of waves occurred and why the radio strength would decrease the farther out you

Nintendo, A Japanese Multinational Consumer Electronics...
Nintendo, a Japanese multinational consumer electronics company, was founded in 1889 by
Fusajiro Yamauchias. It began as a maker of Japanese playing cards called Hanufuda . By 1979,
they developed their first video game system, TV Games, which launched them into the video
gaming industry. Since then, Nintendohas introduced a wide range of gaming products, such as the
Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, GameCube, and several others. The company
quickly became renowned for their innovative products and reigned over the video gaming industry.
However, Nintendo s supremacy over the industry was set to change. Competitors, such as Sony,
Microsoft, and Sega, began developing systems using CD storage rather than using a cartridge...

Nintendo s strategy with Wii game console was to target a demographic that was ignored in the past.
Since Nintendo has targeted both gamers and non gamers, they have the opportunity to target
certain markets in that demographic, such as women, children, and seniors. However, from a
sociocultural perspective, they have created a family friendly image, which can limit the types of
games they can produce. With this limitation placed on them, their competitive advantage could be
endangered. To protect themselves from this threat, it is important for Nintendo keep trying to
target a wide range of consumers and researching trends that are important each society. A good
example of Nintendo responding to this problem is the creation of their health conscious games.
Political factors that the gaming industry faces as a whole are the policies and regulations placed
on taxes, foreign trade, and social welfare. In many areas in the world, the government has the
authority to control gaming content because of the tendency of games to affect the emotions of
people playing, which can possibly turn into a threat to law and society. Therefore, these laws and
regulations have

Examples Of Special Lighting In Eternal Sunshine Of The...
Joel s Imaginary Actions: Spotlighting in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
While music always plays a significant part to convey emotions in film, light can be used just as
effectively. The use of a special lighting technique is very noticeable in the memory scenes of
Michel Gondry s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. A major part of Eternal Sunshine is spent
inside the protagonist Joel s mind. He is in the process of deleting his memory of Clementine, who
was his girlfriend for two years. Two main lighting styles are used throughout the scenes which play
inside Joel s mind. On one hand, natural bright lighting and on the other hand a darker setting with
only one light source, carrying a strong resemblance of a spotlight (Jason Sperb, ... Show more

However, this time instead of desperately chasing the spotlight he walks towards it in a decidedly
confident manner. Both Joel and Clementine first walk through a house party and end up in
Mierzwiak s clinic. There, Joel starts talking to Mierzwiak who is in turn talking to another
version of Joel. This other version of Joel is part of the memory and does not react to the Joel we
are following around. However, Mierzwiak acknowledges the Joel who enters the memory and
starts talking to him. This whole scene is only lit by one spotlight moving back and forth in a
tracking shot between the three characters. (Eternal Sunshine, 55:59 56:44) It is again, an event
which has not happened in real life, but is just part of Joel s imagination. This could not have
been the way Joel perceives this specific memory, as Sperb called it, as Mierzwiak is saying
things which would not make sense in the real life scenario. Joel is now contacting the memory he
has of Mierzwiak instead of screaming his name out into the void. He is trying out different tactics

Partial Defense In Murder Cases
The need for partial defence in murder cases has evolved through the common law and statue, in
consideration of the weaknesses of the human mind to take control when faced with provocation
and the challenges created by mental illness, which may result to serious violent. Court in England
and Wales have experienced several difficulties in defining what intention (human mind) is in order
to establish conviction for murder(R v Molony) 1985. This essay will therefore, discuss the need
for partial defences to murder as a buffer against the harsh effect of the mandatory life sentence for
all cases of murder in England and Wales.

The Fetishism of Coffee in America Essay
There are many essentials that are fetishized by Americans; one of those things is coffee. It is no
secret that there is a big demand for coffee with many specialty coffee shops springing up, such
as Starbucks, Peet s and Coffee Bean. Oftentimes, the consumer loses sight of where things come
from and how they are produced. A key component of production is the producer. The consumer
does not pay enough attention to the ethical treatment and wages of the producer. This paper
discusses Karl Marx s premise on Fetishism of Commodities and its direct relation to the
production of coffee, focusing on the value of the coffee bean as well as how that directly impacts
the farmer and his family. As industrialization evolved people worked long days... Show more

He states that material essentials have use value. A thing will have use value because it
becomes a commodity and is produced for others. The price of a use value item is not
determined by how useful but what the thing does and how frequently it is used (Marx in
Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:65, 69). As a material essential s use value grows it becomes
more desired Marx believes that it becomes a fetishized commodity. Marx restructured his earlier
theory of alienation as fetishism of commodities. Fetishism is similar to alienation; however the
premise of consumerism is developed in the way that the consumer loses sight of the labor it takes
to create commodities. To the consumer, commodities are magnificent and allow the material item
to take control of their lives. This is allowed to happen because the producers of material
commodities do not come into contact with one another. Therefore, there is no thought put into
how laborious, and time consuming, it was to create the commodity (Marx in Desfor Edles and
Appelrouth 2012:68, 73). It is evident that there are many things being fetishized in present day.
Specialty coffee has been become increasingly popular since the 1980 s. As of 2001 27 million
Americans consumed specialty coffee daily (Ponte 2002:1111). It can be said that Starbucks helped
create the explosion and set the environment that it drew with

The Effect Of Water Hardness On Our Health
Introduction Water hardness is an ongoing problem across the globe. While not detrimental to our
health, there are many issues that arise from having hard water in households. You may be
asking, what is hard water? Isn t it all liquid? The hardness of water actually refers to the presence
of divalent cations, or ions with a +2 charge. In drinking water, these are most commonly Ca2+ and
Mg2+ ions ( Water Hardness). Water hardness can cause a buildup of minerals on surfaces such as
dishes, sinks, showers and pipes. While the aesthetic problems are not that important, the buildup
in the pipes can be very harmful. The scale that builds up causes utility bills to increase because
more energy is required to deliver water to its final... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The water will turn to blue when you reach this point. Once you find how many drops of EDTA
it took, you can calculate the concentration of calcium and magnesium in the water, as seen in the
results section. EDTA is not always precise since the turning point will often lie between drops,
which can result in a large margin of error, especially for small samples. For a more accurate test,
we turn to AA, or Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. This water hardness test uses a machine
to aspirate the water sample. This gas then is burned in a flame, and a light of a range of
wavelengths is passed through it. The machine then calculates the amount of divalent cations in the
water by comparing the relative levels of light passed through the sample at each wavelength to
known atomic absorption levels. You then use a trend line from known samples readings, to figure
out what the concentration of calcium or magnesium there is. These two different tests are both
used in this lab so that we can be assured we ve done them right. The hardness of one test should be
similar to the hardness obtained from the other. Using these tests, we created a hypothesis to test.
Our group was testing which part of Pennsylvania has the highest mineral content and hardness
of their water. Our samples came from a Pittsburgh well (694 Forbes Rd. New Castle PA 16101),
State College tap (478 E Calder Way State College PA 16801) and Philadelphia tap (6705

Scarlet Letter Essay On Puritan Society
H.L Mencken defines Puritanism as the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.
These words address the Puritan s attitude regarding strict and unrelenting societal standards.
Modern society views Puritanism with a negative connotation; Puritanism is often used as a
synonym for words such as: judgemental, critical and disapproving. While modern American
society has grown and changed, our Puritanical roots from the 1600 s remain. Our society can be
condescending, hypocritical and relishes in the ignominy of others. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s
novel, The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne discusses the harsh reality of living within the Puritan
communities. The Scarlet Letter follows the journey of a lonely single mother, who falls victim to
sin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main character, Hester Prynne, is a young woman who commits adultery and gives birth to
an illegitimate child. As a repercussion, the Puritan community, that Hester calls home, shuns and
labels her as a sinful outcast. While modern society considers adultery is more of a personal
issue than a broken law, people are still critiqued for specific behaviors and actions, similarly to
the way Hester was judged in the 1600 s. Modern American culture has been affected by outdated
Puritan values, and has caused society to become an echo of the Puritan community of 1692.
While Puritans may have publically shamed others on scaffolds as a crude punishment, Americans
reach a broader audience with the help of technological advances and social media. But,
technology has also allowed our nation s Puritan roots to be prominently displayed online. Social
media platforms are often the most popular choice when it comes to bringing light to the ignominy
of others. With the option of hiding behind a screen, people often lose touch with human empathy
and do not hesitate to lash out at others; this is shown in the Justine Sacco twitter incident of 2013.
In the New York Times magazine, Jon Ronson educates his audience about how quickly people
chose to harass

What are the problems that Sikhs faced from the beginning till now?
From 1400 NOW: Sikh is the Caum (kind of race) which barely most Non Sikh people can figure it
out. Let me start this way: Most of every Sikh was very very great warrior, they are still now and
they will be. If Sikh can t able to get justice, they will get it in various ways, and they did get it
many times in the past hundred years. Sikh holiest Shrines called quot; Darbar Sahib quot; quot;
Golden Temple quot; has been attacked two times, once in the time of Mughals Rule and once by
Hindu Fundamentalist in late 1984.
Current Issues:
Sikhs in this centaury: There are many Problems that Sikhs are facing in today world. Most of
the common problem is Political; people face this problem only in India. By saying Political
problems I mean Corruption in Government offices, lack of good education, poor economy in
which rich people are getting rich and poor people are getting poor. Every politician in India is
crooked, I mean everybody from police officer to Governor. Second most problems that today s
Sikh faces are the social religious issues. For example: Many people think that eating meat is
allowed in Sikhism, which 100% wrong, another example is that many people cut their hair
thinking that keeping hair long is not so important, which is also 100% wrong. There are lot of
wrong things are happening, which people think that they are doing is correct, for example:

The Yellow Wallpaper And Professions For Women
Women And Domesticity
Domestic work and other types of work that is typically associated with women has always been
undervalued and overlooked. Many types of work fall under the umbrella of domestic labor, such
as: cooking, cleaning, mending, child care, running errands, managing the household, and much
more. This type of work is highly undervalued and often ignored. Many of the works that we have
looked at in this section highlight how many women felt about the domestic sphere that they were
placed in. In this essay I will discuss this point using points from The Yellow Wallpaper and
Professions For Women . Both women commented on the domestic sphere for women and what that
meant for them. The Yellow Wallpaper highlights the separate spheres ideaology, an ideaology that
states that men and women belong in different spheres of society. A womans place in in the home,
where she can carry out her duties as a wife and mother in private while a man s sphere is the
one of the public domain. In The Yellow Wallpaper a woman is diagnosed with nervous
depression after the birth of her baby and put on a rest cure . She spends the entirity of the story
in a bedroom of a house her husbad had rented out for their summer vacation. Being locked in her
bedroom causes her to have a mental breakdown. Gilman had written The Yellow Wallpaper to
describe her own experience with depression and the rest cure, prescribed by a renowned

What Is an Optimal Level of Health Care
Optimal Model for Health Care
Stephanie Fontes
ECON 402 Wednesday s Class
Due Date: November 2nd, 2011
What is an optimal model for health care? This is a highly debated issue internationally. Much of
the debate centers around whether health care should be treated as a type of public good supplied
by the government and funded by taxpayers. Others believe that a better system is delivered by the
private sector. Another model advocates a public/private mix. This analysis will consider several
important factors such as; public access, health outcomes/results, economic sustainability, as well
as if it provides room for research and development, in order to recommend which health care
system is optimal. Countries health care ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leads me to believe that the government isn t concerned with the Public interest but rather
with profits it is making off the private health care sector. Proof of this can be found in a study
from Johns Hopkins University where roughly one in four patients believe their doctors have
exposed them to unnecessary risks. Unnecessary risks may include pointless risky tests, risky
surgeries, high risk treatments along with unnecessary medical expenditures that are due to vicious
marketing and compensation systems between practitioners and pharmaceutical firms. Although
the patients may be aware of the risks, doctors tend to turn into a salesman if you will and sell
patients life in exchange for their soul so to speak, or more accurately excessive debt. Private
health care also incurs a cost that is found in public health care systems but smaller in scale, an
administrative overhead. Information determined that some 31 per cent of U.S. health care dollars,
or more than $1,000 per person per year, went to health care administrative costs, nearly double the
administrative overhead in Canada, on a percentage basis. This extra cost makes general insurance
more expensive for American Citizens, which makes it more inaccessible. Americans who are in

  • 2. Simpsons and Philosophy Simpson s and Philosophy In the chapter Thus Spake Bart: On Nietzsche and the Virtues of Being Bad, Mark T. Conard shows us why people believe Bart Simpson is similar to a philosophical theorist named Friedrich Nietzsche. Bart being the bad boy of the Simpson s and Nietzsche being the bad boy of Philosophy. Conard says that Bart does not take on the chaos like Nietzsche says but he is just an empty being of bad actions. This argument is ridiculous; Bart Simpson is as creative as creative gets. In this chapter, Conard is first shows us how people consider Bart as Nietzsche like character because he does not try to change the world of chaos and confusion but he accepts it and makes art out of his life. Nietzsche views also point out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for a better life for African Americans and that is exactly what happened. I am not trying to say that Gandhi and King lead pointless lives all I am saying is that the world is filled with bad and no matter how much good you do once you stop preaching the bad comes back That is exactly the way that Bart and Nietzsche think they are worried about living a pointless life so they go with all the bad in the world and run with it. They want their actions to artistically bring out what the world is really made up of. On the other hand of Bart is his sister Lisa. Lisa lives the conformist life; trying to change the world with her music and preaching to everyone, especially Bart, about their wrong doing. Sometimes you almost think that Lisa should not even be a Simpson but rather be a part of the Flanders family. During the show Lisa does many noble things like trying get Mr. Burns to stop his greed, or conform Bart but in the end everyone goes back to who they are and Lisa chalks it up as another loss. • 3. Eyewitness Testimony Research Paper Eyewitness Testimony The use of the eyewitness testimony has always been viewed as one of the most reliable forms of evidence when it comes to the court system. Recently many cases have been brought up where the use of the eyewitness testimony has failed and put an innocent citizen into jail leaving the criminal on the loose and a threat to the population. This has caused eyewitness testimonyto go from a reliable source to a controversial subject for many. The eyewitness testimony should not be used because memory is corrupted after a certain length of time, interviews push eyewitnesses to identify a subject, and lineups further confuse the witness. The Austro Hungarian Empire invaded Serbia; Russia sends troops to its borders with Austria and Hungary. Germany declares war on Russia and France and marches into Belgium and Britain declares war with Germany and her allies. Although Britain already had a well trained professional army, it was far too small to be able to stand a chance against the huge German army that was more than three times its size. As a result of this Lord Kitchener immediately went on a recruiting campaign calling on all men aged between 19 and 30 to enlist in the British Army. There was a huge response, ... Lord Derby had the idea of pals battalions , these were battalions of people who volunteered to join the army in the same area. This scheme inspired local and civic pride, this meant that soldiers would not just be fighting for the British Empire, but for their town or city and friend and family. This was particularly effective as it encouraged friend to enlist at the same time, if one was left behind there would be no one they new. It had a similar effect as peer pressure if you did not join up you considered a coward by your friends. This worked well in North England and Scotland, where places like Hull raised four regiments and three regiments from Liverpool went over the top of the trenches on the first day. Women too played a vital role in the recruitment process. I believe that healthcare is a human right and everyone should be protected, no matter their income level or employment status. After all, what good is a community if an individual is all on their own? After doing some research, I found out that District 117 in the House of Representatives has been heavily Democratic for years now. Shakespeare usually portrays a character through the use of literary and dramatic techniques throughout his work, either subtle or obvious. In this particular text, he has used a range of textual techniques to portray the characteristic of arrogance shared by both, portray Hotspur s great honour, as well as Hal s notable dishonour, and the ways that the two contrast.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way that Shakespeare portrays Hotspur as being an honourable character is in the very way that he speaks. Throughout the play, Hotspur talks in the sophisticated prose form, an example being But I remember when the fight was done,/ When I was dry with rage and extreme toil,/ breathless and faint, leaning upon my sword... The fact that Shakespeare has chosen for Hotspur to use prose when he talks suggests to us that he is able to speak very well with such a fiery passion about honourable things, like battles. In the given example, Hotspur uses such a colourful description of the aftermath of a battle, not to say how extremely well he fought, but giving a more modest account on how worn out he was, thus Shakespeare reinforces the aspect of honour in his character. Shakespeare has utilized techniques like foreshadowing, contrasting, setting and language to portray Hal as dishonourable. Shakespeare portrays Hal from the beginning as being dishonourable and unruly through the use of foreshadowing that is used by other characters. After talking about how honourable Hotspur is, King Henry IV contrasts him with his own son; riot and dishonour stain the brow/ of my young Harry. The heavy contrast here foreshadows Hal s character as being that of dishonour because we have just been given an image, through foreshadowing, about how grand Hotspur s honour is, then King Henry gives and ... Quantum Dots Lab Report Pre Lab for the Quantum Dots Lab Sara Lyons, Aleye Momodu, and Sam Winslow Goal: Synthesize Cadmium Selenide (CdSe) Quantum Dot Crystals using Cadmium Oxide (CdO) and Selenium (Se) dissolved in Triphenylphosphine solution. The product created will be a colloidal solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the octadecene (Boatman Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well due to the changes in wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal. The variations in particle size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal is to use diverse size particles. The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered out since they do not settle. Background of the Chemistry: Cadmium Selenide is an inorganic compound that is widely used for research on nanoparticles. Cadmium Oxide is an inorganic compound that is mostly used for creating other cadmium compounds because it crystallizes in a lattice like that of NaCl. Selenium is an element that has nonmetal properties, but it is rarely ever found in its pure state, it is often found as a compound. Both, selenium and cadmium are used to synthesize the CdSe used in this experiment. Although these materials can be very hazardous, it has been proven that using these items are the best option for this synthesis. As humans migrated to new climates, an alternative hypothesis was that covering may have been first used for other purposes. Clothing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. The Mutation Of The Horror Genre Kalmina (Alex) Wu Josh Jackson Media Studies 10 30 September 2014 The Mutation of the Horror Genre Horror can be defined as a genre meant to psychologically trigger individual fear with the presence of certain supernatural or abstract characteristics. The genre is dependent on people s fascination with unrealism and the sensation that comes from experiencing fear personified into tangible elements on a screen. Horror films have thrilled audiences for decades, revealing stories of the more sinister parts of life. The popular allure that stems from the genre comes from the tension moviegoers experience when aroused by specific stimuli uniquely present in these cinematic features (Walters). Over time, as the genre progressed, the standardized elements found in a typical horror movie began to shift in different directions primarily due to changing societal circumstances and increasing consumer demand for cinematic innovation. The expansive nature of the different codes and conventions within the horror genre, coupled with the evolution of society s fascination with these characteristics, has led to the mutation of the genre itself in order to allow for unique approaches to a familiar style in response to both economic developments and taste shifts within the consumer industry. Definitions of horror tend to emphasize the psychological effect it has on audiences. Specifically, they highlight the internal terror that arises from encountering threats to existence. The Maternal Mortality Rate Of Afghanistan Essay Goal 5 The fifth goal is to increase maternal health in countries with a focus on reducing the maternal mortality rate by three fourths and universal access to reproductive health both by 2015. Despite a 43% reduction in maternal deaths since 1990, there are still a large number of women who die during childbirth from preventable causes such as hemorrhaging (United Nations, 2015, p. 38). In 2002 Afghanistan reported a baseline figure of 1,600 deaths per 100,000 with a 2015 targeted reduction to 315 (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 2013, p. 53). While Afghanistan was able to reach the original goal it had set for itself, new goals were created to combat the continuous high number of maternal deaths. Afghanistan has identified general lack of family planning, a limited supply of qualified midwives, and limited access to health care in general as contributing factors towards such high maternal death rates. The state has been working with UNICEF, WHO, and other international partners to implement its National Reproductive health strategy to help combat the conditions in which Afghanistan mothers find themselves. Goal 6 The sixth goal is to combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases, focusing on reversing their spread and providing universal access to treatment. Mother Jones wanted the president to get Congress to pass a law that would take children out of the mills, mines, and factories, and put them in school. This shows Mother Jones s determination to change society and improve human rights. She faced many challenges, such as the disapproval of her belief and speeches. Also during her march, many people gave up and went home, so her crowd looked weaker. She also faced the rejection of her proposed law that would stop children from working in dangerous places at young ages by the president. The consumer does not pay enough attention to the ethical treatment and wages of the producer. A thing will have use value because it becomes a commodity and is produced for others. The price of a use value item is not determined by how useful but what the thing does and how frequently it is used (Marx in Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:65, 69). As a material essential s use value grows it becomes more desired Marx believes that it becomes a fetishized commodity. Marx restructured his earlier theory of alienation as fetishism of commodities. Fetishism is similar to alienation; however the premise of consumerism is developed in the way that the consumer loses sight of the labor it takes to create commodities. To the consumer, commodities are magnificent and allow the material item to take control of their lives. This is allowed to happen because the producers of material commodities do not come into contact with one another. Therefore, there is no thought put into how laborious, and time consuming, it was to create the commodity (Marx in Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:68, 73). While not detrimental to our health, there are many issues that arise from having hard water in households. You may be asking, what is hard water? Isn t it all liquid? The hardness of water actually refers to the presence of divalent cations, or ions with a +2 charge. In drinking water, these are most commonly Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions ( Water Hardness). Water hardness can cause a buildup of minerals on surfaces such as dishes, sinks, showers and pipes. While the aesthetic problems are not that important, the buildup in the pipes can be very harmful. The water will turn to blue when you reach this point. Once you find how many drops of EDTA it took, you can calculate the concentration of calcium and magnesium in the water, as seen in the results section. EDTA is not always precise since the turning point will often lie between drops, which can result in a large margin of error, especially for small samples. For a more accurate test, we turn to AA, or Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. This water hardness test uses a machine to aspirate the water sample. This gas then is burned in a flame, and a light of a range of wavelengths is passed through it. The machine then calculates the amount of divalent cations in the water by comparing the relative levels of light passed through the sample at each wavelength to known atomic absorption levels. You then use a trend line from known samples readings, to figure out what the concentration of calcium or magnesium there is. These two different tests are both used in this lab so that we can be assured we ve done them right. The hardness of one test should be similar to the hardness obtained from the other. Using these tests, we created a hypothesis to test. Our group was testing which part of Pennsylvania has the highest mineral content and hardness of their water. This leads me to believe that the government isn t concerned with the Public interest but rather with profits it is making off the private health care sector. Proof of this can be found in a study from Johns Hopkins University where roughly one in four patients believe their doctors have exposed them to unnecessary risks. Unnecessary risks may include pointless risky tests, risky surgeries, high risk treatments along with unnecessary medical expenditures that are due to vicious marketing and compensation systems between practitioners and pharmaceutical firms. This extra cost makes general insurance more expensive for American Citizens, which makes it more inaccessible. Americans who are in favor of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
