The Metro Angeles Department Of City Planning
In determining the development of the current location of the 31 year old Little Tokyo in
downtown Los Angeles I had to rely on different sources, but mainly the Sanborn maps and the
Los Angeles Times helped me a lot. Though I must say that I used other sources like the Los
Angeles Department of City Planning s OHR s How to Guide to conducting Historical Research,
the Sanborn mapsgave more the much needed information on the historical development of the site
(Los AngelesDepartment of City Planning p1). Furthermore, by using the maps and other resources
I gained a lot of experience, especially the difficulties that I experienced in my search.

The galleria is loved by the Japanese and other Asian communities in Los Angeles.
The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural
center has served different historical periods. For instance, during the Second World War, Los
Angeles faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek
employment. The Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been
into internment camps as many southerners settled in downtown and the Little Tokyo was a vacant
place that hosted them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern
African American population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of
the World War II, the Asian community had lost a lot of their land in downtown area. As an
oppressed minority, they have continually struggled to gain back their land and recovered it fully.
X Lanes bowling alley or the Little Tokyo as is called by some is such an essential monument to the
Japanese American culture that has survived in downtown.
While it was not difficult to locate the site using Los Angeles Times, using Sanborn maps was a
huge challenge because of my lack of experience. I had to do multiple searches to find some
credible information. Furthermore, I had to key in some of the developments within the area so as
to locate the site. Adjusting my search by using names of

Twelfth Night Social Order
Change in Social Order If there was no way of out of your current social status, would you be
happy with it? Twelfth Night is one of the great comedies written by William Shakespeare. The
play showcases many truths about society. Status was important in the Elizabethan Age, and
people could not raise in the social ranks. The purpose of turning over the social order in Twelfth
Night is to reveal that status is just a label through showing love does not abide by these
boundaries, status does not display true character, and status is not obtained by those who aim for
it. First of all, love does not have any boundaries because it is merely the attraction and adoration of
another person, no matter their age, status, race, and beliefs. Many characters in Twelfth Night fall

Malvolio is tricked into thinking the lady of the house is in love with him and does everything
he can to please her. Malvolio believes he will be the Duke of the house with servants at his feet
and loads of fortunes. Malvolio pleases the countess by smiling, cross gartering, and wearing
yellow stockings all of which are absurd and Olivia laughs at him for his foolishness. Olivia later
feels sorry for Malvolio because he was considered a madman for thinking she was in love with
him and partially for that he could move up in the hierarchy. Sebastian, on the other hand, was
placed in a great situation. Or I am mad, or else this is a dream. Let fancy still my sense in Lethe
steep. If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep. (IV.iii.145) Olivia was fooled by Sebastian s
similar appearance to Cesario and asked Sebastian to marry her. Of course he said yes because
someone wealthy was offering. Sebastian was not looking to move up in the social order, but when
presented with the chance he took it. Sebastian and Malvolio were two completely different
characters, but both experienced the dream of success in the social

The Pros And Cons Of Turnover
Turnover All turnovers are a management problem, either because management failed to provide
a productive working environment or because the wrong person was hired in the first place. In
this situation, the operator of organization cannot blame the workers because all their staff did
was asking for a job; it was management that gave it to them. The simple truth is that your staff
leaves because they did not want to stay, mainly because they are not getting what they want from
the job or some behavior of organization made them disoppintment. KPMG (1991) and Timo
(1999) said that high staff turnover rates in the hospitality industry are largely higher than
manufacturing industries in Australian labor market. Turnover has already become a big and
intractable issue especially in China; there is a lack of studies using a comprehensive set of
variables is rare to focus on it. (Khatri, Fern and Budhwar, 2001). Carley(1992) said that... Show

Different studies demonstrate a conflicting relationship between worker turnover and productivity,
at the same time, there is general sentiment that high turnover rates can have an extraordinary
impact on company s performance (Bluedorn, 1982) because turnover can bring about interruption
and disturbance is adversely identified with productivity. Hence turnover can influence an
organization s funds, proficiency, profitability and assets. Koh and Goh (1995) point out that while
the turnover of employees can have positive results, such as improving poor performers,
encouraging new ideas and help employee get more chance to develop their career, the expenses
connected with employee turnover can be considerable. These incorporate the expense of training
and recruitment, and poor organization spirit and image. Working attitude elements, for example,
participant and satisfaction do not seem to influence turnover goal

A Letter to Jessica
Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job
is exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put
me into a lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with
adolescent children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments
and changes that occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often
can lead them into great trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you
and seek your guidance and opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I
am deeply worried and concerned that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to
the differences that I have personally noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the
last few months. I have been observing him, and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or
boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is about his future that may be jeopardized and
his education as well in the event that the boy is involved in drug abuse. I am certain that you as
a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and pain that a parent experiences and
faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her future. As the old English adage
says, blood is thicker than water; I have every reason to get worried. Joel has found new friends in
the neighborhoods that are a little older than him

Behavior Change Theory Selected And Reason For Selecting
A.Topic Selection: Obesity B.Theory Behavior Change Theory Selected and Reason for
Selecting The Social Cognitive Theory is learning by observing and interacting with others.
This works perfect for my case study because children mimic what they see other children do.
They also watch their older influences and do as them. I will use this theory by setting up
programs for the children along with their families. This is targeting the obesity problem in 8 to
14 year old. I plan on implementing programs for children s physical activity and healthy food
choices. Compare and/or contrast two other theories Theory #1 Social Network Theory The
Social Theory Network has to do with people s relationships to one another. Having a healthy
social network would have a positive effect on the people in it. My case study has to do with
children who do not belong to social networks like older individuals would. Their parents
probably have a stable social network build through the years, so their children are born into their
networks until they are old enough to form their own. The Social Network Theory and the Social
Cognitive Theory both are interpersonal theories. They are influenced by the people around them.
Change occurs when behavior that is desired is reinforced. Theory #2 Transtheoretical Model The
Transtheoretical Model lays out stages a person goes through for change. In this case it is making
positive changes to prevent childhood obesity. The stages are

Parks and Recreation Districts
GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a
successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize
the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park.
Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a
range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education,
and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation
responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit
from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and
pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy
() provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential
because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities,
and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel
(1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its
success is limited in both quantity and scope.
The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the Midwest where
they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation

The Cholera Spread In London In The 19th Century
The cholera has been the most terrifying disease spreading in London in the middle of nineteenth
century, which is an infection caused by strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. In the
summertime of 1854 London was known as one of the most advanced and fashionable cities in
the world with almost 2.5 million people living there. Because of the overpopulation, the city was
having a difficult time to provide basic needs for the residents. According to Johnson (2006) the
biggest existing problem within the city at that time was its lack of waste removal system. The
human trash was piling up from the houses to the rivers and drinking water, which has led to the
perfect conditions for a number of diseases and more precisely that is when the cholera... Show

After interviewing more people who had relatives died, Snow find out that many people drank
water from Broad Street Pump on their way to work or school. Johnson (2006) says, Many Soho
residents who lived closer to other pumps one on Rupert Street and another on Little
Marlborough opted to walk an extra few blocks for the refreshing taste of Broad Street`s water. It
was colder than the water found at the rival pumps; it had a pleasant hint of carbonation (p.30).
He also discovered that there was not a single death recorded among the workers at Lion
Brewery on Broad Street. They were rarely seen to drink water from the pump because of the
liquor they received as a part of their wages (Johnson, 2006, p.142). Another important
observation Snow has made is about the death of the widow Susanna Eley who used to live in
Broad Street, but after a while she moved to Hampstead (Johnson, 2006, p.143). By asking her
sons Snow found out that she drank the Broad Street water as she loved it taste and even more,
she had it delivered to the new house. After collecting all this information Snow had strong
evidence that the source of the cholera outbreak was exactly the Broad Street pump. He came up
with a plan how to deal with the cholera outbreak and went to the Board of St. James Parish where
he convinced the local officials that the pump

In Sunday school, the grape producer discussed the importance of a covenant. A contract is a
promise that is deemed important within the Christian lifestyle.
And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

The grape producer should consider the new friendship, business relationship, time invested and
advertising dollars spent before he destroys my business reputation so he can make more money.
The least he could do is allow ample time to make other supplier arrangements. He should supply
me with the product for at least six months to give me time to redirect advertising dollars and find
a new supplier. My focused advertising has only helped increase his brand while he threatens to

My Great Grandfather
In 1897, my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina. His name was Roy Hudson. He
served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a lengthy issue with his heart. His
heart issues started when he developed pleurisy, most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet
ground while in the Army during World War One. He was only sixty three years old when he
died. Just before he died, he gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a
billfold. My great great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North
Carolina, and her parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very active in her
community, and acted in community plays. She was very kind, and she sang beautifully. In 1979,
she died when she was eighty one years old. One of RolandВґs children, Doris Hudson, was born in
North Carolina in 1927. She is my great grandmother, and she is still living. She is ninety years
old and I call her Gaga. She fell a few months ago and could not walk for a while, but she
recovered and is now able to walk slowly. When I was too young to go to daycare, she would
babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to eat cookies when I could barely eat
solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I cried, therefore I was a very
chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose, Jacquelyn Jackie Rose, and Jerry Rose.
Jackie is my grandmother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to Buras, Louisiana, then later
moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She played outfield on a semi professional softball team, and
she was a teacher, although she retired after the 2016 2017 school year. She had two children;
Michael Marino, and Jamie Marino. Jamie is my mother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to
Buras, Louisiana, then to Shreveport, Louisiana. She currently teaches music at Sunset Acres
Elementary, but she has held other teaching jobs as an English or history teacher. She received her
Bachelor s degree in teaching at LSUS, and received her Master s degree in teaching through
online classes at Northwestern University. She served in the secret service under President Bush,

A Comparison Of Louisa May Alcott And Ralph Waldo Emerson
Transcending Authors Collide
Transcendentalism was an age of revolution. Not only did this age bring about changes in literature,
but it brought about reform in ideals, religion, and people. Movements were all the rage with
abolitionism, feminism, sectarianism, communitarianism, and temperance beginning to flourish.
With shifting ideals, literature evolved. Perhaps one of the best known authors of the
transcendentalism period would be Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson acted as a mentor to many
individuals, with his infamous Divinity School Address. However, one author in particular
Emerson guided by introducing her to Goethe and encouraging her to borrow books, and that
author would be Louisa May Alcott. Being from the same literary time period, Louisa May Alcott
and Ralph Waldo Emerson have similar affinities displaying Transcendentalist ideals in their
professional works.
Ralph Waldo Emerson is considered one of the greatest authors of the nineteenth century. He was
born a son of a Unitarian minister, and his mother kept boardinghouses. Emerson s mother was
determined to send as many of her children as possible to Harvard to be ministers. Emerson s aunt
became his educator, pushing him to challenge his ideas. Emerson went to and graduated from
Harvard, to become a schoolteacher. After studying theology, Emerson began to preach as a
Unitarian pastor. Ralph Waldo Emerson then began to believe more in the individual and intuition
rather than the church. During this time, 1832,

Reflection On The Inclusion Improvement Plan
Reflection is an important part of the planning process. Ongoing learning and reflective practice is
one of the five principles of the early years learning Framework (DEEWR, 2010. p. 7). It gives the
educators an opportunity to look at the planning process, the successful areas of planning, the areas
of improvement and progress and to get motivated to work better for the learning of children. The
following reflection will highlight the merits of implementing the inclusionimprovement plan, some
of the issues that impact on educators capacity to provide an inclusive care environment and how
can the educators manage the competing demands of inclusion of children with additional needs,
with the demands of providing an inclusive environment for all children.
The inclusion improvement plan for Joshua caters to his special needs to a large extent. For
example, Joshua is a child with autism. The term autism loosely groups a range of spectrums that
share the characteristics of difficulties in socialisation, communication and repetitive and restricted
behaviour (EDU 30005, 2016). Children with special needs were not considered to be a part of the
education system and were being labeled as gifted or handicapped. However, with the change in
the societies, the concept of disability has also changed. As Winzer (2007) argues, although there
have always been differences in a society, the construct and implications of what it means to be
normal vary as the society changes and

Elasticity of Demand
The purpose of this essay is to define elasticity of demand, cross price elasticity, income
elasticity, and explain the elastic coefficients for each. I will explain the contrast of and
significance of difference between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be
more or less elastic for availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and
consumer s time horizon, and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to
business decision making that result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic
demand and perfectly inelastic demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of
demand, also known as price demand elasticity, is defined as... Show more content on

The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A
formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in
quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in
quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the
demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the
demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make
adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income
elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between
cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of
change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures
changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and
elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a
change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their
price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their
profits. Cross price

Family Is The Fundamental Unit Of Society And Today It Is...
According to Dr. Alina Costin, family is the fundamental unit of society and today it is used with a
wide variety of meanings (2014). In 2007, single parent families make up thirty two percent of the
population (Benokraitis, 2012). As more adult remain single into their thirties and divorce rates are
higher, the number of children living in single parent families has increased (Benokraitis, 2012).
The number of never married people has gone up form four percent in 1960 to forty three percent in
2010 (Benokraitis, 2012). Women also run an over whelming eighty seven percent of single parent
households in the United States (Benokraitis, 2012). While these statistics seem daunting, it is
important to remember how children and the parent are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Single father families make up a small proportion of all single parent families (Coles, 2015).
Children living in these families often exhibit more behavior and academic problems than children
who live with single mother families (Pong, Dronkers, and Hampden Thomas,2015). Despite these
findings, the number of single father households has increased about nine fold since 1960, from
less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011(Coles, 2015). Women will more likely attend to
primary and daily parenting tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and emotional nurturance of children,
whereas men will attend to play activities and financial provision (Coles, 2015). Another study also
found that single mothers and fathers displayed similar rates of participation, with single mothers
less involved than married mothers and single fathers more involved than married fathers (Nord et
al., 1997). According to Coles, living in a single mother family increases the risk for delinquency
(2015). This is likely due not to the mothers lack of parenting ability but rather the need to support
their family financially (Rodgers and Rose, 2001) The most popular explanation centers on a
resource deprivation argument single mothers have fewer resources (e.g., income, time, energy),
thus leading to diminished social control and socialization (Coles, 2015). Single fathers tend to be
better off in terms of income and social support than single mothers (Coles, 2015). They

Essay on Modern Piracy With A Breif History
Piracy is usually determined as a seizure of property (ship, airplane or software) that holds no
commission from the owner ( Piracy 1). It is mostly linked to the dirty, bearded men that sailed
the seven seas and robed merchant ships or ships that carried a valuable cargo. This however, was
not the case in the late eighties and is definitely not the case today in the nineties. Now software
piratescopy software without the permission of the company for their own personal benefits. Since
piracy interrupts trade between nations it has been considered to be an offense against

It was not the lack of plunder because there were still many merchant ships sailing between
nations with valuable cargo. Also, the conditions in merchant and navy ships were as severe as
before so there was still a great reason to turn to piracy. It was called the golden age because at
this time there were more pirates (not to mention the number of the well know pirates) than ever
before and their amount of plunder was far greater than any other period in history. From this time
period the original term piracy got its name and fame.
This statement been said, Piracy could never be completely gotten rid of. This is a very true
statement. It did take a long time, now pirates have set sail again and this time in cyberspace (The
Internet). Their vessels are no longer ships filled with gunpowder and cannons, but desktop and
laptop computers. Software piracy has existed as long as software itself, but it has not had a
notable effect before the late1980 s. The pirating of software just got easier as hardware became
more advanced. The development of the modem has allowed the computer to transmit and receive
data. Due to this technological advancement pirates (modern term Hackers) have been able to put
pirated software on webpages and websites around cyberspace. These webpages and websites

Analysis Of I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died
Emily Dickinson s I heard a Fly buzz when I died describes a death speaker looks back the
moment of his or her death. Using the objects like the storm, the fly and the melancholy of the
people around to express the mood of the speaker, Dickinson reveals that faces the death, the
speaker is afraid at first, but finally, the speaker finds the calmness and peace inside herself or
himself. Like I heard a Fly buzz when I died , After Deathalso addresses a moment before death.
Rossetti uses the death as a compensation of the tragic love He did not love me living; but once

But they gather together to witness the final performance of the speaker.
Then, Dickinson keeps providing the detailed imagery in the room, and shows the people s reaction
to the speaker s death:
The Eyes around had wrung them dry
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset when the King
Be witnessed in the Room (Dickinson, lines 5 8)
People are sad and sorrow, and maybe they are the speaker s family members and friends. Their
eyes are like sponges, and crying is stretching the tears out of the sponges and had [has] wrung
them dry . Breaths have touchable weight and shape that can be gathered together and get
firmed. Dickinson endows new property to the breath and cry. This provides a vivid picture in
the room like people are sobbing and weeping weakly, and the same feeling as if our audience is
part of the people around the speaker. Then Dickinson describes the mental world of the people.
They are waiting and to witness the King Death in their own eyes.
What does the last moment look like? Is it horrified? Dickinson gives her answer in the last stanza:
With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz
Between the light and me
And then the Windows failed and then
I could not see to see (Dickinson, lines 13 16)
There are many symbols in this stanza: a light, blue color, a buzz, and windows. I consider the light
is a symbol of heaven and the fly is the speaker s soul because flies have wings just as angles.

Should Cellphones Be Banned In Public Places Research
Cell Phones Banning in Public Places Should cellphones be banned in public places? I agree
that cellphones should be banned in public places, however, they are needed in public places as
well. Cellphones may cause distractions but at the same time cellphones are useful when there
is an emergency. Although, people say cellphones cause a lot of sidetracks, they are also
lifesavers. When there is a problem while you re out and about you can use your device to call
for help. However, some people don t know how to just check their phone when they re busy and
that causes an aftermath. The first ever cellphone was created in 1876 by Alexander Graham
Bell. Cellphones were introduced to the public in 1945, but before cellphones there was the
mobile telephone services . The largest MTS market had no more than 44 channels, cellular
networks were an ingenious way to expand service dramatically. In the 2000s, Apple released its
first phone which included computer capable technologies. Samsung. LG, and others followed
Apple s footsteps and phones just keep coming faster each year. Cellphones were mainly created
to make life easier on humans but some people have been taking advantage of this privilege.
Cellphones aren t always the problem but it s the person who owns the phone. Cellphones can be
a throw off to what s really going on and in a blank of an eye you re facing the consequences.

Richard Nixon s Involvement In Vietnam
Many people think that all Nixon did in his presidency was the watergate scandal, but in reality he
helped stop Americans fighting in the Vietnam War. When Richard Nixon started in Office he was
faced with the difficult task of trying to pull all US troops out of Vietnam. He decided to use a
tactic he created called Vietnamization. The simple plan was to strengthen South Vietnam so they
could fight the war by themselves. The plan involved many small steps which helped finally end
our involvement in January 1973. The War was highly disliked by many Americans. This split
America up and caused divisions in America. Richard Nixonended US involvement in the Vietnam
war by using the strategy of Vietnamization. Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United
Statesof America. He was also the only president to resign from office. Nixon was born on
January 9,1913 in Yorba Linda, CA. Nixon s parents were Francis A. Nixon and Hannah Milhous

Political Cartoon
After the 2016 Presidential election, there have been a lot of controversies. Many political
cartoons have been created for a multitude of different issues that have been occurring within the
White House and in government. Chris Britt, a liberal cartoonist was inspired by these issues and
created political cartoons regarding them. He is a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist as well
as a children s book author. Christ decided to take on a cartoon in regards to the current healthcare
system. In this specific cartoon, the main message is, Slaughter the Affordable Care Act. Currently,
President Trump is looking to revise the current healthcare system because he disagrees with the
system that President Obama had put in place during his presidency. The Affordable Care Act s

When President Trump was campaigning, he made it known that the ACA was not what he
wanted. Included in the cartoon, Chris drew President Trump with an axe, holding it over a man

has a button on his suit with the message Kill Obama Care written on it. He is also speaking to
the patients with a message saying, Take a knee you loser. This drawing is appealing to
conservatives. It is demonstrating Trumps feelings against Obamacare and the standardization of
healthcare. By taking away Obamacare, many people think that President Trump will be killing
them. Individuals who have insurance today could possibly have that taken away from them. When
the idea of a possible replacement to Obamacare came about, many powerful medical special

The Advantages Of Consumer Driven Personal Technology
Advantages of Consumer Driven Personal Technology
Improved technology has had impacts across various spheres of human life. It has enhanced various
sectors such as education, business, recreation, as well as the health departments(Ibm, 2013). In
business, technology has been of great importance to the consumers who like making online
purchases. They employ various forms of technology that enable them buy products or services
they need at their own comforts in an efficient manner (Ibm, 2013). Virtually all consumers are
aware of the recent revolution in the manner in which people work today. There are currently new
expectations, technologies, stakeholders, as well as spaces of physical work. All these play a role
in the way in which people do business today. The kind of technology that enables consumers to
purchase products and services at their homes is termed as consumer driven personal technology.
Like any other kind of emerging technology trend, this kind of technology has both advantages and
disadvantages. This paper illustrates various advantages of consumer driven personal technology.

The Descent of Dick Diver in Tender is the Night
Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald chronicles Dick Diver s long descent (or dying fall,
[Letters 310]) to ruin at the hands of women. Diver, the novel s protagonist and antagonist, seeks to
overthrow feminine power. Dick needs to control the women in his life. To him, women want to be
dependent; they are weak, lost souls who need the guidance only a man can give. In turn, women
are parasites who feed on him and ultimately destroy his genius.
Before Diver becomes involved with woman, he is a Rhodes Scholar and a promising young
Psychiatrist. By the end of the novel he is a middle aged drunk chasing young women. Dick Diver,

Instead, Diver must increasingly restate the universe for her , as part of her treatment. Nicole
follows Dick walking on her hands . She is after all one to whom nothing need be explained and
one to whom nothing could be explained . When the dying Mr. Warren requests to see his
daughter, Diver claims she is not strong enough to decide the matter for herself (249). Diver
consults Franz but does not allow Nicole a say in the situation. Thus, Diver exhibits his
controlling character in maintaining the right to make his wife s decisions for her. Nicole has
no identity of her own: she identifies herself with Dick and is so dependent on him that she
almost wants to be him. So much so that she even wants to become a writer like him: I want to
be a fine person like you, Dick, I would study medicine. When Diver once describes his love for
Nicole, he calls it a wild submergence of soul, a dipping of all colors into an obscuring dye.
There is little doubt that he believes Nicole is entirely to blame for the loss of his youthful
personality. Nicole sucked the life out of him: all his energy is diverted to her needs and when she
has used him enough, she abandons him for another man. She is the cause of his marked
degeneration; she is, after all, a woman whose wealth and mental instability stunt his

Double Standards In Chronicles Of A Death Fortold By...
In the Columbian society portrayed in the novel Chronicles of a Death Foretold by Gabriel
Marquez, there is a significant double standard regarding gender. They live in a world where
women have to follow extreme societal and cultural expectations. Men are encouraged to be
experienced in the bedroom for their weddingnight but if a woman is not a virgin, she is deemed
unfit to marry. Women are taught when they are brought up that lovecan be learned (page 35) and
that they must marry whoever impresses their familywhile men can choose whoever they want.
When she doesn t obey to the image of a perfect women Santiago Nasar is killed in the name of
her honor. The result of these double standards leads directly to the death of Santiago Nasar in
Chronicles of a Death Foretold. The idea that for women, love is something that can be taught
and they are brought up to suffer while men can choose whoever they would like especially if
they charm their family, is a significant unjust double standard that results in the death of Santiago
Nasar. Santiago was murdered for supposedly taking Angela s virginity. This was cause for his
death because not being a virgin deemed you unfit to be married and soiled or impure, she was
garbage if she wasn t a virgin.
When Bayardo San Roman found out she wasn t a virgin he returned her to her family, honor
destroyed. Her two brothers took action into their own hands and when Santiago was named as the
man who took her virginity he was murdered by

How Does Fusion Affect The Creation Of A Star
Way out there in space, there are huge clouds of dust and gas and if one of those clouds of dust
and gas is massive enough it s own gravity can causes it to start to collapse. When it collapses, it
folds itself towards the center of the cloud, then it get denser and denser and hotter and hotter;
eventually the particles of that gas and the dust are made up and brought so close together that they
start to stick together. Then they start to fuse, thats the energy source of a star. The star switches and
begins to shine. Inside every newborn star, hydrogen atoms are fused together to make helium.
This process is called fusion and it creates the energy of every star. A star is a luminous sphere of
gas producing its own heat and light by nuclear reactions (nuclear fusion).

At some point in the future when the hydrogen runs out, at that point the star will start to collapse
itself under its own weight. It get denser, hotter until the point where it starts to use the helium

energy and that causes the outer layers of the star to start to expand. One day our sun will grow so

Burgess Shale
The Burgess Shale was first discovered in 1909 by a Paleontologist named Charles Walcott and
is believed to be over 500 million years ago in Middle Cambrian. This geological formation was
first found near a mountain by the name of Mount Burgess, for which it was named after, in
Canada. Similar formations have been uncovered in China, Europe, USA and many other places
around the world. The Burgess Shale is one of the most important of fossil type formations due to
the fact that they are one of the most preserved including not only the hard parts of an animal such
as the tissue, muscles and organs, but also gives evidence that soft bodied creatures lived at the time.

Essay about The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
The Republican Party in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis Babbitt portrayed a man bent on following his political party; his actions
seemingly followed that religiously, and today s version of the Republican Party is proof that we
are not too far off from Lewis version, despite the expanse of time. George Babbitt, the main
character in Lewis novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a
waste to society, business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest
inventions as top priorities in his life. One must, in the 1920s and well as in today s world, set
themselves in a political affiliation, generally one that describes the person and how he is. To...

Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint.
Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt
attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as
someone s break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured
him to join the Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came
over his wife s operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of
immigration, and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever.
Lewis hinted through that statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political
club, or more specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects
the party s actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was
part of that party.
If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts
corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the
Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican
Party was the cause of the Great Depression. Its policies certainly would direct themselves toward
the contrary yet still the blame rested on them. The blame still rested

The first time we see the cognitive perspective is when Temple Grandin she sees the man dressed
like a cowboy. The cognitive theory helps explain mental processes such as processing
information, learning, or thinking. Temple Grandin saw the way the man dressed the belt, cowboy
boots, cowboy hat, and the shirt. She processed the information and with it and previous
information she knew from pictures, shows, magazines, and other medias she assumed he was a
bad guy. She saw that the they carry guns, shoot each other, and rob stores. Because of the
unconventional way of processing information. She sees in pictures and relate it to other things she
saw in the media. So the bad guys on television looking like the cowboy in front of her threatened
her.
The second time we saw this approach was in the wallpaper. The movie flashed back to young
Temple age four, not speaking before this point. She saw wallpaper the pattern was unusual, it
showed us her thinking. She saw that two pieces of the wall paper would make one bigger pattern.

Theme Of Human Nature In Macbeth
F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your
longings are universal longings, that you re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong .
However, how could it be, that the longings represented in Macbeth demonstrate the longings of
human nature itself? The author of the play, William Shakespeare, is perhaps best known for the
thorough understanding of human nature represented within his plays, therefore, the constant
struggle between the good and evil is evident throughout the play Macbethas characters such as
Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo struggle between the importance of their morals and their
strong longings towards power. In real life, individuals can find themselves relating to the
characters of the play as their beliefs might transition from putting their longings before their
morals or vice versa. Macbeth is a play in which the psychology of human nature is analyzed
repeatedly as it encounters temptations and allows the characters to choose a path of light or
darkness.
To begin with, the character of Lady Macbeth can be the clearest representation of the placement
of longings before morals in the play Macbeth. As the play commences, Lady Macbeth receives a
letter in which Macbeth notifies her that a prophecy has been stated by the three weird sisters in
which he is bound to become king. This can perhaps be the commencement of Lady Macbeth s dark
path, as she confronts a temptation she has never

Big Bang Timeline
Timeline of The Big Bang
The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model,
which states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago
before expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and
systems.
The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and
energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the
universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called
Inflation causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped
only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it.
After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but
not nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong
force which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By
the first second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons,
photons, neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and
neutrons. These protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements:
hydrogen, helium and lithium. It will take another 300,000 years for electrons to be captured into
orbits around these nuclei

The Ku Klux Klan In The US
The second Ku Klux Klan is the oldest domestic terrorist group. The Klan was a physical symbol
of racism and violence. The Klan took advantage of the common man, in a state of vulnerability
and turned them against their fellow brothers. The revival of the Ku Klux Klan beginning in the
1910s occurred as a result of economic and cultural tensions in America. Because of an economic
recession following World War I, many farmers migrated to cities and competed with immigrants
for jobs. These newly arrived farmers held views at odds with others regarding enforcement of
Prohibition and the role of religion and women in America. As a result, many turned to the Ku Klux

Immigration was at an all time causing confusion and fear. As a result the KKK broaden their
scope of racism: to blacks, Catholics, Jews, Irish, and Franco Americans. Catholics were brought

their lives to their faith. They are discriminated against because of their lack of culture and
financial stability. The KKK saw them as a nuisance but in reality they were simple. They had
no issue with public schools or the education they could afford. The most controversy they

Catholics were not the only ones who dealt with discrimination. The KKK claimed blacks were

Jews were believed to be decedents and representatives of Satan. The Klan thought that blacks

feared Hispanics would invade the U.S. The Klan discriminated towards people of color who
compete for lower class jobs, blaming economic and educational failures on them. Though Jews
and African Americans were largely discriminated against; they were not alone in their struggles.
The Irish were portrayed as brutish, monkey like humans involved in crime. Italians were

The Mystery Of Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction exists as one of the most popular fiction genres of all time. Detective fiction
uses facts and other details to solve a mystery which surrounds a perplexing murder in a novel.
Many people gain excitement over a challenge or a test of knowledge when solving a puzzle. A
puzzle may baffle or confuse the puzzler; therefore, the puzzler likes to solve the puzzle before
the ending. People enjoy the experience of sheer satisfaction of solving a mystery before ending
the literary work. Curiosity describes itself as the desire to learn or know about anything;
inquisitiveness (Dictionary). Curiosity somehow leads people on the path to try to solve a
mystery or a puzzle. It remains a question of why people desire to solve a puzzle. Maybe their
inquisitive mind drives them to solve the puzzle or a mystery. Often after the reader finishes
reading a detective novel and solving the mystery before the reveal of the murderer, they find this
satisfying to their curiosity. Thus they begin to continue reading more mystery fictional novels. The
birth of detective fictionsurfaced around the 19th century (Gaines). The Moonstone novel
considered the first detective novel written (Sahni). The novel created by Wilkie Collins established
the ground rules for detective novels. Before the detective fiction surfaced, many novels conveyed
the murderer as the innocent one, instead of the victim as the innocent one. These works of fiction,

How to Save Energy in an Office Building
Modern offices are a cluster of technology and coffee. The constantly evolving world in which all
businesses must operate necessitate a commitment to being energy efficient. Initially, it is possible
to reduce the energy consumption for a business, with some relatively small steps.
Collecting all the waste paper from the office bins, to be mulched and compressed into fuel bricks,
which are then burned to produce the heat for the office, is one step too far for most businesses.
However, these small steps take just a few minutes to carry out and will reap large reductions in
energy usage.
Turn off unused desktop computers and screens.
Desktop computers and their screens are huge energy sapping devices, which just happen to be
sat on every desk in the office. When a screen or a computer is not being used, they should be put
into sleep mode to reduce the amount of electricity they are using. Leaving computers and screens
turned on whilst someone has their lunch break will cost the company hundreds over the course of
a year, yet it will take a few clicks to tun everything off for the hour.
Indeed, it has become pretty common practice to leave a computer on in hibernation mode over
night to save the employee a few minutes in the morning. This means that the computer has been
drawing electricity all night long for no really productive value.
Turning off computers and screens is a really small step to start making huge reductions in energy
consumption.

Spiritual Development Is A Complex Journey
Spiritual development is a complex journey. And there is not one correct way to reach the end
of the process. The end goal seems simple enough be more like Jesus. But even that is not a great
end goal. No one can say, I am enough like Jesus, therefore I am done. I have made it to the goal.
So, maybe the end goal is not to be more like Jesusin and of itself, but to walk with Jesus
throughout the day to day lives that we live. To converse with Him on a continual basis. To seek
to know and understand His ways and His will for our own lives. And in doing these things, we
become more like Christ. Spiritual maturity is another hard to define concept. Literally it means
that one is fully developed or perfect in their spiritual life. It would seem that spiritual development
should lead to spiritual maturity then. Being Christ like is being spiritually mature.
This is not just a concept that someone came up with one day and decided to start spreading it
around. The Bible also points to the fact that we should be growing in our faith and walking with
Christ. Colossians 1:10 reads, walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every
good work and growing in the knowledge of God. Elsewhere, in 2 Peter chapter three, it is written
that we are to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The problem
is, no one seems to know the exact way to do this. There is not a one size fits all set of events that
will ensure that an individual

In 1907, Jamsetji Tata, an industrialist, established Indians biggest and first steelplant. At the same
time it was Asia s initial private sector steel company. The reason of Tata Steel s establishing was
that Jamsetji had the idea of developing an iron and steel industry in his own country.

2.2 Strategic drift
One significant point in position analysis is the strategic drift, which is defined and illustrated
(exhibit 1.1) in appendix 1.
Since its establishment, Tata has shown a strategy of incremental change. Arguably, that point was
important because so the group might vary within the current market. In the nineteenth century
steel was seen as an unprofitable section. Even more than 50 independent steel producers went into
bankruptcy in the USA (Business Monitor International Ltd, 2010: 54).
In the late twentieth century, demand growth was strongly low. In contrast, the twenty first century
saw a boom in demand. For instance, Tata bought weaker players internationally, such as NatSteel
in 2004, which was Tata Steel s first overseas acquisition, and the Anglo Dutch giant Corus in April
2007. Through the investment in Corus, Tata has created a manufacturing and marketing network
in Europe, South East Asia and the pacific rim countries. These acquisitions were also the result of

The group followed the recommendations, allowing a third of the time to carry out research, a
third on writing up the report and a third on editing and producing the final piece. After the
research had been carried out on all sections, different members of the group began writing up
different sections of the report using the information previously obtained. The group then looked
over each other s sections in order to make sure all relevant information was included, to check
for grammar and spelling mistakes and to make sure enough references had been used. This was
important to ensure all members had a good understanding of each section. Anglo American s
website and annual reports were the main source of information for the company study. The issues
surrounding Anglo American during the past year allowed for many relevant news articles to be
widely available for use within the financial management section. After the report had been
completed, the group booked weekly sessions in the Techno booths with print outs of the
completed report, to ensure all members of the group were familiar with all sections. The
presentation was then brainstormed and the main points put on a PowerPoint, which then allowed
for the presentation to be practiced over a couple of weeks prior to the deadline. Many rehearsals
of the presentation were carried out to ensure it

Policy is best defined as a statement by the government of what it intends to do such as law,
regulation, or decision about a specific problem (Birkland, 2016). This definition about policy
seems to say, that a policy tries to combat or resolve an underlining problem that a community, or
a certain section of a community is dealing with at the current moment, with legislation. This is an
important aspect of our country because it allows for better results when something goes wrong,
in that the policy makers realize that something is not working, and would create policy in order
to correct the problem. A problem also has a unique definition, when it comes to policy. A problem
is defined as a usually undesirable situation that according to people or interest groups that can be
alleviated by government action (Birkland, 2016). The definition of a problem seems to suggest
that the policy makers and the government taking the necessary measures in order to solve the
problem can mitigate any problem. In this country s history, there have been many problems that
the government tried to resolve with many degrees of success. The Dream act was another case of a
major problem seen by many, which need to be resolved with quick government action. After
defining what a policy is, and what a problem is in a general sense, we now need to look at what
problem the Dream Act, is trying to resolve in the first place. The main objective of the

How Being A Single Mom Influenced My Life
Influenced Heart
For as long as I can remember my was always there for me. Deep down I honestly feel like she
molded me for my future. She made me who I am today by teaching me responsibility, finances and
life struggles. She never bothered to hide the cruelty of the real world.
First of all, if I look back I can always remember my mother teaching me responsibility. As early
as six years young my mom would sit down with me every night when she got home and go over
my homework to make sure it was done. I also remember her telling me constantly to take
responsibility for my actions. For example, when I was in highschool I brought cough tablets to
school. My friend was carrying my book bag when they searched her and found them. When I
heard about it I stepped forward and took responsibility for them and I ended up not getting in
trouble because of my honesty. From that moment forward I knew my mother had really raised me
amazingly. Giving me the tools I needed to be successful in life.
In addition to her teaching me respect she also expressed finances to me. My mother always
would a way o tell me about finances. Being a single mom it was hard raising three girls on her
own. She shopped smart and found ways to let us be involved. ... Show more content on

Formation Of Proprietary Company Essay
Question One The first issue arose on the grounds of factors, which were taken into
consideration by Haili and John at the time of formation of proprietary company rather than
Partnership Company. It can be assumed that in deciding the structure, the features of the two
types of companies and both the positive negative perspectives of them were given attention
before the final mind set. On one hand, the salient features found under the Partnership heading
were as follows: a)Such companies can be formed through an oral or written agreement, though
the written agreement was not mandatory but common. b)Minimum two persons were required
and maximum 10 persons in case of the banking business and 20 in other types of business.
c)The business name must be registered with ASIC if the name was not under each partner.
d)Sharing of profit among the partners was to be done according to the agreed ratio and vice
versa in terms of any losses. On the other hand, the characteristic of proprietary company were
discovered to be as follows: (a)privately held company that could be either unlimited or limited.
(b)Such type of company was known to have a separate legal entity and as per the decided case
of Salomon v Salomon Company Ltd [1897] , it was, therefore, distinct from its directors,
shareholders, promoters and other members. (c)Governed by a separate law, so it had right, duties
and obligation. As a result, such company can have assets as well as liabilities and make

Ethnic Groups Ww1
Western stated that, The brutal ethnic cleansing carried out during the war was never completed,
and many villages still contain pockets of minority ethnic groups. Since the ethnic cleansing was
never finished, the Muslims that still existed and became a minority ethnic group. They could not
be mixed into the population to create a diverse society unless the government passed laws
allowing them to be or if the superior ethnic groups accepted them into their society. The violence
used during the war destroyed the hopes for making Bosnia diverse. As verified by Black, Although
Bosnian Serbs, Bosnian Croats, and Bosnian Muslims had been able to live together for decades,
the bloodshed of the 1990s nearly destroyed hopes for a multiethnic Bosnia. ... Show more content

Bosnia was still trying to create a multiethnic state, but the political institutions already supported
ethnic partition in the government. As asserted by McMahon and Western, Although Bosnia
professes to seek the creation of a unified multi ethnic state, its political institutions support ethnic
partition at every level of government. The politicians of Bosnia wanted the government to be
diverse on all levels, but they were still trying to create a diverse society at the same time. Ethnic
partition in the government was also supported by the nationalist parties in Bosnia. As advocated
by Black, The elections were held without violence, but the results were a victory for the nationalist
parties who wanted to maintain the ethnic partition of the country. The result of the election was a
new three person presidency with each president from a different ethnic group. The nationalist
parties saw this as a victory because they supported ethnic partition in the government. Although
people in Bosnia supported a diverse government, the country was still broken. Dahlman and
Tuathail described that, Without cooperation from the local authorities to reverse the wartime
property laws, returnees to other areas could not re establish possession over their

Roman Civilization Dbq
The greek and roman civilizations were very influential to our modern day civilization, for example
our government, sporting events, and medicine first became widely spread in their culture. In
document 6, the text explains the branches of government during ancient rome. Their government
had a significant influence in our government today. For example it split up the power between the
branches and we use similar branches today such as the judicial branch. The Romans created a
system of government which influenced many other cultures. America even developed it own form
of this government. Though it is not exactly the same there are many similarities. For instance the
Roman republic separated the power of the branches. This is so no one branch

Renault, the French sheriff police officer, works with Strasser, the German general. Renault rarely
takes him seriously and complies to do whatever Strasser desires. For example, Strasser tells
Renault that he overestimates blundering Americans. Renault responds, Do not underestimate
American blundering, they blundered all the way into Berlin in 1918. The German general quickly
changes the subject. Renault s and Rick s friendship is where the small town humor occurs, another
example displaying the audiences sympathetic views.
Casablanca s love afflictions render that true love equals self sacrifice. The married Victor and
Ilsa (Bergman) get separated when Victor gets arrested for leading an underground rebellion.
Ilsa receives word that he was killed in a concentration camp. Then the day she is to leave with
new found love, Rick, she obtains information that Victor lives and leaves Rick without reason.
Rick remains bitter and cynical, making it clear that he, don t stick his neck out for no one, and,
isolationism is his foreign policy. He remains cold towards everyone when he finds the truth
behind why she left him and shows no interest helping them escape Casablanca although he has
the power. When Rick and Victor speak, Victor only asks for one exit visa. When Rick asks him if
he really loves her that much, Victor responds honestly yes, well knowing that Ilsa and Rick

The galleria is loved by the Japanese and other Asian communities in Los Angeles. The site has served as Los Angeles Asian community for over thirty years. However, the cultural center has served different historical periods. For instance, during the Second World War, Los Angeles faced a labor shortage that made African Americans migrate from the south to seek employment. The Little Tokyo has always gone through cultural changes. The Japanese have been into internment camps as many southerners settled in downtown and the Little Tokyo was a vacant place that hosted them. After the spring of 1943, the place became overcrowded with Southern African American population who eventually took over the control of Little Tokyo. By the end of the World War II, the Asian community had lost a lot of their land in downtown area. As an oppressed minority, they have continually struggled to gain back their land and recovered it fully. • 3. Twelfth Night Social Order Change in Social Order If there was no way of out of your current social status, would you be happy with it? Twelfth Night is one of the great comedies written by William Shakespeare. The play showcases many truths about society. Status was important in the Elizabethan Age, and people could not raise in the social ranks. The purpose of turning over the social order in Twelfth Night is to reveal that status is just a label through showing love does not abide by these boundaries, status does not display true character, and status is not obtained by those who aim for it. First of all, love does not have any boundaries because it is merely the attraction and adoration of another person, no matter their age, status, race, and beliefs. Olivia later feels sorry for Malvolio because he was considered a madman for thinking she was in love with him and partially for that he could move up in the hierarchy. Sebastian, on the other hand, was placed in a great situation. Or I am mad, or else this is a dream. Let fancy still my sense in Lethe steep. If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Turnover Turnover All turnovers are a management problem, either because management failed to provide a productive working environment or because the wrong person was hired in the first place. In this situation, the operator of organization cannot blame the workers because all their staff did was asking for a job; it was management that gave it to them. The simple truth is that your staff leaves because they did not want to stay, mainly because they are not getting what they want from the job or some behavior of organization made them disoppintment. KPMG (1991) and Timo (1999) said that high staff turnover rates in the hospitality industry are largely higher than manufacturing industries in Australian labor market. Turnover has already become a big and intractable issue especially in China; there is a lack of studies using a comprehensive set of variables is rare to focus on it. • 5. A Letter to Jessica Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job is exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put me into a lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with adolescent children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments and changes that occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often can lead them into great trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you and seek your guidance and opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I am deeply worried and concerned that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to the differences that I have personally noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the last few months. I have been observing him, and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is about his future that may be jeopardized and his education as well in the event that the boy is involved in drug abuse. I am certain that you as a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and pain that a parent experiences and faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her future. • 6. Behavior Change Theory Selected And Reason For Selecting A.Topic Selection: Obesity B.Theory Behavior Change Theory Selected and Reason for Selecting The Social Cognitive Theory is learning by observing and interacting with others. This works perfect for my case study because children mimic what they see other children do. They also watch their older influences and do as them. I will use this theory by setting up programs for the children along with their families. This is targeting the obesity problem in 8 to 14 year old. I plan on implementing programs for children s physical activity and healthy food choices. Compare and/or contrast two other theories Theory #1 Social Network Theory The Social Theory Network has to do with people s relationships to one another. Having a healthy social network would have a positive effect on the people in it. My case study has to do with children who do not belong to social networks like older individuals would. Their parents probably have a stable social network build through the years, so their children are born into their networks until they are old enough to form their own. The Social Network Theory and the Social Cognitive Theory both are interpersonal theories. They are influenced by the people around them. Change occurs when behavior that is desired is reinforced. Theory #2 Transtheoretical Model The Transtheoretical Model lays out stages a person goes through for change. In this case it is making positive changes to prevent childhood obesity. • 7. Parks and Recreation Districts GENERAL PARKS AND RECREATION DISTRICTS The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other mandatory services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope. The vast majority of research on parks and recreation districts is concentrated in the Midwest where they are most prevalent. The Illinois Park and Recreation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cholera Spread In London In The 19th Century The cholera has been the most terrifying disease spreading in London in the middle of nineteenth century, which is an infection caused by strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. In the summertime of 1854 London was known as one of the most advanced and fashionable cities in the world with almost 2.5 million people living there. Because of the overpopulation, the city was having a difficult time to provide basic needs for the residents. According to Johnson (2006) the biggest existing problem within the city at that time was its lack of waste removal system. Johnson (2006) says, Many Soho residents who lived closer to other pumps one on Rupert Street and another on Little Marlborough opted to walk an extra few blocks for the refreshing taste of Broad Street`s water. It was colder than the water found at the rival pumps; it had a pleasant hint of carbonation (p.30). He also discovered that there was not a single death recorded among the workers at Lion Brewery on Broad Street. They were rarely seen to drink water from the pump because of the liquor they received as a part of their wages (Johnson, 2006, p.142). Another important observation Snow has made is about the death of the widow Susanna Eley who used to live in Broad Street, but after a while she moved to Hampstead (Johnson, 2006, p.143). By asking her sons Snow found out that she drank the Broad Street water as she loved it taste and even more, she had it delivered to the new house. He served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a lengthy issue with his heart. His heart issues started when he developed pleurisy, most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet ground while in the Army during World War One. He was only sixty three years old when he died. Just before he died, he gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a billfold. My great great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North Carolina, and her parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very active in her community, and acted in community plays. She was very kind, and she sang beautifully. In 1979, she died when she was eighty one years old. One of RolandВґs children, Doris Hudson, was born in North Carolina in 1927. She fell a few months ago and could not walk for a while, but she recovered and is now able to walk slowly. When I was too young to go to daycare, she would babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to eat cookies when I could barely eat solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I cried, therefore I was a very chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose, Jacquelyn Jackie Rose, and Jerry Rose. Jackie is my grandmother. • 11. A Comparison Of Louisa May Alcott And Ralph Waldo Emerson Transcending Authors Collide Transcendentalism was an age of revolution. Not only did this age bring about changes in literature, but it brought about reform in ideals, religion, and people. Movements were all the rage with abolitionism, feminism, sectarianism, communitarianism, and temperance beginning to flourish. With shifting ideals, literature evolved. Perhaps one of the best known authors of the transcendentalism period would be Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson acted as a mentor to many individuals, with his infamous Divinity School Address. However, one author in particular Emerson guided by introducing her to Goethe and encouraging her to borrow books, and that author would be Louisa May Alcott. Being from the same literary time period, Louisa May Alcott and Ralph Waldo Emerson have similar affinities displaying Transcendentalist ideals in their professional works. Ralph Waldo Emerson is considered one of the greatest authors of the nineteenth century. He was born a son of a Unitarian minister, and his mother kept boardinghouses. Emerson s mother was determined to send as many of her children as possible to Harvard to be ministers. Emerson s aunt became his educator, pushing him to challenge his ideas. Emerson went to and graduated from Harvard, to become a schoolteacher. After studying theology, Emerson began to preach as a Unitarian pastor. Ralph Waldo Emerson then began to believe more in the individual and intuition rather than the church. During this time, 1832, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Reflection On The Inclusion Improvement Plan Reflection is an important part of the planning process. Ongoing learning and reflective practice is one of the five principles of the early years learning Framework (DEEWR, 2010. p. 7). It gives the educators an opportunity to look at the planning process, the successful areas of planning, the areas of improvement and progress and to get motivated to work better for the learning of children. The following reflection will highlight the merits of implementing the inclusionimprovement plan, some of the issues that impact on educators capacity to provide an inclusive care environment and how can the educators manage the competing demands of inclusion of children with additional needs, with the demands of providing an inclusive environment for all children. The inclusion improvement plan for Joshua caters to his special needs to a large extent. For example, Joshua is a child with autism. The term autism loosely groups a range of spectrums that share the characteristics of difficulties in socialisation, communication and repetitive and restricted behaviour (EDU 30005, 2016). Children with special needs were not considered to be a part of the education system and were being labeled as gifted or handicapped. However, with the change in the societies, the concept of disability has also changed. As Winzer (2007) argues, although there have always been differences in a society, the construct and implications of what it means to be normal vary as the society changes and ... I will explain the contrast of and significance of difference between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be more or less elastic for availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and consumer s time horizon, and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to business decision making that result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic demand and perfectly inelastic demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of demand, also known as price demand elasticity, is defined as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their profits. Cross price ... Despite these findings, the number of single father households has increased about nine fold since 1960, from less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011(Coles, 2015). Women will more likely attend to primary and daily parenting tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and emotional nurturance of children, whereas men will attend to play activities and financial provision (Coles, 2015). Another study also found that single mothers and fathers displayed similar rates of participation, with single mothers less involved than married mothers and single fathers more involved than married fathers (Nord et al., 1997). According to Coles, living in a single mother family increases the risk for delinquency (2015). This is likely due not to the mothers lack of parenting ability but rather the need to support their family financially (Rodgers and Rose, 2001) The most popular explanation centers on a resource deprivation argument single mothers have fewer resources (e.g., income, time, energy), thus leading to diminished social control and socialization (Coles, 2015). President Trump has a button on his suit with the message Kill Obama Care written on it. He is also speaking to the patients with a message saying, Take a knee you loser. This drawing is appealing to conservatives. It is demonstrating Trumps feelings against Obamacare and the standardization of healthcare. By taking away Obamacare, many people think that President Trump will be killing them. Individuals who have insurance today could possibly have that taken away from them. How Does Fusion Affect The Creation Of A Star Way out there in space, there are huge clouds of dust and gas and if one of those clouds of dust and gas is massive enough it s own gravity can causes it to start to collapse. When it collapses, it folds itself towards the center of the cloud, then it get denser and denser and hotter and hotter; eventually the particles of that gas and the dust are made up and brought so close together that they start to stick together. Then they start to fuse, thats the energy source of a star. The star switches and begins to shine. Inside every newborn star, hydrogen atoms are fused together to make helium. George Babbitt, the main character in Lewis novel, viewed the world in the eyes of a businessman. He saw immigrants as a waste to society, business and the means to survive, and the ability to own the latest and greatest inventions as top priorities in his life. Babbitt was just the icon of the Republican viewpoint. Lewis probed into the Republican policies in order to write a character about them. Babbitt attempted a change, a way of rebelling against his mechanical lifestyle, which one could view as someone s break of the political system. It was too hard for him though, as his friends pressured him to join the Good Citizens League and end this crazy rebellion. His downfall inevitably came over his wife s operation, and he began to preach, the crimes of labor unions, the perils of immigration, and the delights of golf, morality, and bank accounts (Lewis 368) more than ever. Lewis hinted through that statement that the Good Citizens League was little more than a political club, or more specifically, an offshoot of the Republican Party itself. Once again, Babbitt reflects the party s actions and policies in what he speaks about, also saying a great deal about who was part of that party. If the party was like that over seventy five years ago, and many would consider such thoughts corrupt, the Republican Party surely must have changed over such a long time. The success of the Democrats during the Great Depression and World War II led many to believe that the Republican Party was the cause of the Great Depression. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong . However, how could it be, that the longings represented in Macbeth demonstrate the longings of human nature itself? The author of the play, William Shakespeare, is perhaps best known for the thorough understanding of human nature represented within his plays, therefore, the constant struggle between the good and evil is evident throughout the play Macbethas characters such as Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo struggle between the importance of their morals and their strong longings towards power. In real life, individuals can find themselves relating to the characters of the play as their beliefs might transition from putting their longings before their morals or vice versa. Macbeth is a play in which the psychology of human nature is analyzed repeatedly as it encounters temptations and allows the characters to choose a path of light or darkness. To begin with, the character of Lady Macbeth can be the clearest representation of the placement of longings before morals in the play Macbeth. • 30. Big Bang Timeline Timeline of The Big Bang The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model, which states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago before expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and systems. The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called Inflation causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it. After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons, neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and neutrons. These protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and lithium. It will take another 300,000 years for electrons to be captured into orbits around these nuclei ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Detective fiction uses facts and other details to solve a mystery which surrounds a perplexing murder in a novel. A puzzle may baffle or confuse the puzzler; therefore, the puzzler likes to solve the puzzle before the ending. However, these small steps take just a few minutes to carry out and will reap large reductions in energy usage. Turn off unused desktop computers and screens.
