The Reason Why La Tomatina
The reason why La Tomatina is a big deal for people because it is a colorful tradition and make a good
excuse to show of young people throwing vegetables to each other. Before 2013 anywhere from forty
thousand to fifty thousand people crammed into this tomato fight. Numbers of people came to this
special celebration created a success. Last year s event bought some forty thousand people, due to
safety concerns of oversize of the crowd the organizers cut amount of people who were joining the
fight. It is almost unimportant in the landscape of popular Spanish celebrations. It was virtually
unknown outside of the small village where it is held until somehow it caught the eye of some major
media outlet. Another reason why some people do not participate is because they do not like tomato to
be thrown at. They replied that it is messy and people get hurt if they slip over. In this special
celebration, there is no political or religion importance to La Tomatina. In 1980, the organization of
the festival became the responsibility of the town. Soon this celebration became internationally
considerable and highly broadcasted by the use of international media. In the beginning, it was
forbidden in the early 1950 s but people spoke and the celebration was allowed with more contestants
and more frenetic feelings. The festivity was again cancelled till 1957, when as a sign of protest, the
tomato burial was held. Many parts of the world joined Tomatina like Chicago and etc. They also

Leadership In The Odyssey
The Oxford dictionary defines empowerment as, The authority or power given to someone to do
something. Leaders use empowerment to improve employee reliance and commitment to the
company, by providing them with the ability to make decisions when it is needed. By granting them
this authority, the employee would be given control of a portion of the business which would provide
an incentive to work harder for the company with the chance for more authority and responsibility in
the future. In this paper, we shall provide a brief history of a major reference to empowerment
leadership styles, ways to empower employees, and the effect of employee empowerment in a
company.
The history of leadership empowerment can be dated back to the early Greeks. This can be seen from
Homer s Odyssey which was used to teach the people of ancient Greece to recognize good leadership
when it presented itself and how to identify crucial elements of good leadership such as respect and
reciprocity. This story would go on to help shape the idea of leadership and empowerment by detailing
the story of Odysseus a soldier who goes to war and his journey home. During his trials and journey,
he encounters many challenges, but is empowered by the Greek Gods to complete his tests.
From Homer s book, this idea of leadership would spread across the ... Show more content on

Antony Flew on Christian Life
People always tend to give high attention to individuals who turned their backs on their once held
beliefs to argue that (Christian) faith is unreasonable and without real substance. Rationality seems to
be the source of every argument for the non existence of God, and is often understood as inherently
opposing to faith. However, the story of Antony Flew is one that atheists can and should not discard,
as he experienced something very different. Born into a Christian family Flew grew up in the church
and was exposed to Christian beliefs and customs. He never really found a personal connection to
Christianity and converted to Atheism, but after decades of arguing the non existence of God, he came
to the conclusion that there is no other possibility than the validity of the existence of God. This
process is documented in There is a God. Antony Flew is considered one of the, some might argue the
most important, proponents of atheism in the 20th century and his works made major contributions to
the argumentation of atheism.
The author begins his personal story, some might call it testimony, with explaining the process of
becoming an atheist in the first place, before rejecting it after all these years. Born as the son of a
Methodist minister and preacher, Flew went to a Christian school, and was, as he calls himself, a
committed and conscientious, if unenthusiastic, Christian (p.10). He did not feel a personal connection
to God and was not interested in any kind of worship.

The Disappearance Of Childhood Analysis
In the book, The Disappearance of Childhood, Postman s overall claim is that childhood is
disappearing because children are able to get access to information about adult secrets.
I agree with Postman s main argument; however, I disagree with some of his claims that he used to
support the main argument.
In chapter 1, Postman claimed that children who are participating in games such as Little League
baseball and Pee Wee football are playing because they are pursuing reputation, not because they
wanted to do something fun, or because they were pursuing pleasure. I disagree with Postman s claim
since I believe in the exact opposite. I believe that for a child to play sports in their own time, they
must first enjoy that sport. If a child doesn t like playing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is true for all sports. For an example, I m not an athletic person, and I dislike all sports. Since I
don t find pleasure in playing sports, I don t want to do anything related to it, which includes joining
any sport organizations. I had a classmate who loved baseball. He would have found great pleasure in
joining Little League baseball because he loved the sport. I believe that the reputation the child gets
from playing the sport is just something that is included.
Postman claims that with adultified child , children who think and act similar to adults, and childfied
adult , where adults think and act similar to children, children s and adults beliefs and characteristics
are merging into one. This represents the disappearance of the generation gap, where everyone is in
the same generation. In the beginning, I disagreed with his claim. I thought that the generation gap is
still there. Children are growing up with technology. In this generation, a child as young as

Asylum Seekers In Australia
Where to Next?
The Papua New Guinea s Supreme Court ruling that Australia s detention of asylum seekers on Manus
Island is illegal and that the centre must close has once again raised in Australian society the very
divisive issue of asylum seekers and their treatment. Commentaries following the Supreme Court
decision have portrayed Australia s approach to asylum seekers as inhumane and uncaring. With
continual political, humanitarian and media attention, the histrionics surrounding the issue are rife and
many of the crucial facts as to Australia s response to asylum seekers and the purpose for our offshore
processing centres long forgotten. It s time to restore a factual basis and balance to the discussion. Can

The establishment by the Australian Government of offshore processing of asylum seekers on Manus
Island in Papua New Guinea and similarly in Nauru was a direct action to prevent this. By making it
clear internationally that anyone arriving without a visa in Australia by boat would have no chance of
being settled in Australia it removed the financial incentive for people smugglers. It ensured that
people smugglers had no product to sell. It was aimed at preventing people embarking on a trip across
dangerous seas with the high risk of death. The success of this approach cannot be denied. In 2007
2008, while the Howard Government s Pacific Solution was in place, only 25 asylum seekers travelled
by boat to Australia. In 2010, when the policy changed and asylum seekers were transferred to
Australia, 5000 people travelled by boat to Australia to seek asylum a 19900%

U.s. Department Of Homeland Security
On March 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) started a nationwide campaign to warn against the dangers faced by the U.S.
utilities against the cyberattacks. According to DHS, there were an estimated 331 hacks or physical
attacks against the U.S. power grid from 2011 to 2014. As of February 2016, they are occurring at a
rate of once every 4 days. A major cyberattack on the U.S. electric grid could cause over $1 trillion in
economic damage, estimates ThreatTrackSecurity.com. (MacDonald, 2016, pg. 2). To detect a
cyberattack on the power grid, Western Interconnection should implement a system that will allow
public and private authorities to receive Indications and Warning (I W) when a cyberattack is in its
early phase. Koester and Cohen (2012) discuss their Electric Power Grid Indications Warning Tool in
their paper. The purpose of this tool is to provide near real time I W to alert private and public sector
authorities when the likely causes of outage events are malicious activity. (Koester Cohen, 2012, p. 1).
The tool minimizes false alarms due to severe weather and high temperatures. Implementing this
solution will allow administrators at the Western Interconnection power grid to take precautionary
measures as necessary. For example, the substations can be manually shutdown in case of a
cyberattack, to prevent potential damage and spread of malware. In addition to the aforementioned
tool, a

Phases Of Grief
Losing a loved one is a very painful process. During the experience you will feel many different
emotions. Although it is hard there are easy ways to cope with grief and the loss of a loved one. These
ways are to find meaning, understanding the phases of grief, and understand the issues and influences
regarding death.
Finding meaning through a loss can help us to cope and even help us to improve our life and the way
we are living it. The death of a loved one can be a point that changes our perspective on life. It is a
chance to re think who we are, what we thought we believed, how we live, and the order of our
priorities. Finding meaning is one of the best ways to help cope. Finding mean could be any number
of things such as finding meaning in your daily life or at work. Finding meaning at work could be

If you understand the phases you are more likely to understand why you feel that way and why you
are going through what you are going through. There are five stages of grief. The first stage is denial.
In the denial stage you think this cant be happening to me . The second stage is anger. In the anger
stage you think why is this happening and who is to blame ? Third step is bargaining. When
bargaining you think if this does not happen than I will do this or so Fourth step is depression. In this
step you feel too sad to do anything. The last step of grief which is the hardest is acceptance.
Acceptance does not mean you are ok with what happened but you are at peace with it and ready to
continue your life. Grief is a common and normal process of reacting to the loss of a loved one.
Common grief emotions are: Feeling emotionally numb, unable to believe the loss happened and
mourning along with depression. Along with the stages of grief there are also phases. Bereavement is
a phases of sadness that occurs after losing a loved

Wetback Domination Analysis
Wetback Domination Many immigrants coming to the United States are criticized by their appearance.
People often like to call out how they are not from here calling them wetbacks and telling them to go
back to where they came from. Here the author is defending the rights of immigrants and people who
where born in the United States and are of Mexican decent. The perspective of wetbacks is their skin
and there appearance how they look makes them Mexican. What i mean by appearance is that you can
tell who is from here and who is not by the way they dress and use there hair. The perception of
wetbacks is there color BROWN its how its seen. If you look Mexican you must be Mexican. For
example like people of African decent are considered BLACK and it could mean their badge, it could
represent a person, and it could represent a condition. Speaking a certain language makes them a
certain race. Just because a person speaks Spanish doesn t determine whether they are Mexican or not.
If they dont speak english they are automatically considered wetbacks. I agree with the author when
he states that the way a person looks makes them a target of discrimination. Mexican Americans are
stigmatized because of their complexion they are slightly darker than other races. Society stereotypes
Mexican Americans just because they are not like others they are seen as different in so many ways.
Like their color, there economic standing, and the way they are portrayed. For example most of the

The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay
In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about
thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for
him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting
Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills
and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to
have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time.
On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had
sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone,
and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site
eventually was named Duffy s Cut for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe the societal events have shaped our views on certain religions, but it does not mean that we
need to belittle and destroy what keeps people together, what gives them a reason to be. In the Virginia
Statue for Religious Freedom, Thomas Jefferson stated that
No man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry
whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall
otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to
profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in
no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.
If that was an established idea, and later written in the First Amendment of the National Constitution,
is it not our duty as Americans to allow people to believe in what they want? Atheist, Agnostic, or
whatever you believe, it is right for you and no one should be put down because of

G Setosus Lab Report
INTRODUCTION Although many researchers have found that Gammarus setosus lives in panarctic
region, few of them work to specify whether it predominantly lives in rocky zones or sandy zones. To
determine this, we set out for a choice experiment on G. setosus that can help us determine its
distribution more precisely. Gammarus setoseus is a kind of tiny, shrimp like oceanic organism. Adult
G. setosus is typically 20 35mm long (Weslawski 2009), but the organism we use in our research is

with grey and translucent thin shell, which have a function of support and protection. On the top part

Immigration Reform is Needed in the US Essay
Immigration in the United States The immigration patterns of the United States have fluctuated over
the years, some years having little while others see a rising amount of immigrants, both legal and
illegal, looking for opportunities to improve their lives. The amount of illegal immigration is a
problem since many take advantage of the social services provided by the government without
contributing towards the country since they are not citizens and many people see these illegal
immigrants as a threat to their employment. Illegal immigrants do affect the U.S negatively in a
number of ways, but if those illegal immigrants were to have a safe passageway towards gaining

It would bring in 11 million new citizens who pay social security taxes and buy things ( Egan 1).
Though attitudes towards immigrants are negative, immigration was not always bad, in fact it was
once welcomed into America when it lacked a strong labor force. Most immigrants working in the U.S
during this time learned that life as a worker here was better than their previous life. Both skilled and
unskilled workers boosted the economy in strong times, but when the economy was on a fall, the
unskilled laborers were hit hardest of all (Andryszewski 52). Effects of immigration on the economy
also raise the argument over social service abuse, which is immigrants using social services provided
by the government without paying social service taxes or being in the right legal status to obtain those
services. Many have argued that illegal immigrants should not be entitled to health care services and
public education should be denied to illegal immigrant children. If this were to happen then family
migrants would be less common, and this is counter productive to the U.S, it is much better if the
immigrants arrive with their families to help them assimilate better within society and makes them
better citizens. Illegal immigrants children have the opportunity to gain a free education in

Dantes Inferno Essay
Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in
purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of
these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate
the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge.
Dante s Inferno describes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most
evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil.
Conversely, Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; describes the ascent from ignorance to
knowledge, as one prisoner is freed to make his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
175) This quote describes the punishment for fortune tellers. In life the fortune tellers foresaw the
future.
In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears
so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all
due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each
group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be
found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around
him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners
represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason.
Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain
passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece.
quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who
ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to
become a mentor to the others but fails.
As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Nothing is
learned about the characters as individuals. They remain nameless, faceless images. In contrast, there
are numerous characters in the Inferno. The sinners are arranged in

Slavery In African American Slavery
In the Americas, slavery was based on the plantation, an agricultural enterprise that brought together
large numbers of workers under the control of a single owner. This imbalance magnified the
possibility of slave resistance and made it necessary to police the system rigidly. It encouraged the
creation of a sharp boundary between slavery and freedom. Labor on slave plantations was far more
demanding than in the household slavery common in Africa, and the death rate among slaves much
higher. In the New World, slavery would come to be associated with race, a concept that drew a
permanent line between whites and blacks. Unlike in Africa, slaves in the Americas who became free

It was finally fall break. I was visiting my grandma for a few days. Well past dinnertime, I pulled up to
the white stately home in northern rural Iowa. I parked my car, unloaded my bag and pillow, and
crunched through the leaves to the front porch. The porch was just how I had seen it last; to the right, a
small iron table and chairs, along with an old antique brass pole lamp, and on the left, a flowered
glider that I have spent many a summer afternoon on, swaying back and forth, just thinking.
I slowly opened the front door the same old creak echoed its way throughout the old house,

The old antiques collected over the years the smiling peanut piggy bank and John Deere tractor set
included still line the tops of the kitchen cabinets, threatening to overflow their allotted space one day
and spill onto the counter. The cheap suction cup stain glass window hangings still shed odd circles of
light on the dining room table where you least expect it. The old record player still sits in the family
room, broken needle, melted plastic cover (an unfortunate consequence involving a young grandchild
and a burning candle many years ago) and all. Nothing had changed. I mean, sure, the daughters in
law had gotten the major aspects changed over the years the carpets, wallpaper, and curtains but the
little things, the important things, the pieces of the house with character, had not changed a bit. There
is something comforting about that. I guess it s my timeless refuge from the changing world, my
haven from the hurricane of activity that otherwise surrounds my life. My grandmother s home was,
and still is, an oasis for peace and relaxation. The only hassle is trying to convince her not to fuss over
me, not to have a three course meal on the table waiting for me as soon as I step through the door.

Quality also leads to the decision of where to purchase from. Ice Fili is a good choice for quality
because it is one of their goals for service. Substitution: As a choice for an easy and inexpensive snack
ice cream can be easily substituted. Switching costs between alternatives are very low because the
consumer can service many products using what they already own. Also the end consumer can easily
choose to purchase yogurt, soda, chocolates, or other candies. Rivalry: Rivalry is high in the Russian
ice cream industry. Many companies exist to sell a highly undifferentiated product. Imported brand are
not only sold by the Russian market, but also welcomed by government. The Ice Fili product is
quickly perishable. These foreign companies produce the product differently by adding preservatives
which in the long run lowers costs due to extended shelf life. Also the technology is more recent and
more innovative in the foreign companies, which, lets them have the top of the line products that Ice
Fili is incapable of producing without putting more money into new equipment. The companies that
compete with Ice Fili have another advantage because they choose to produce and market for a wider
customer base. They sell the ice cream at more places than just the kiosks that Ice Fili sells at, because
they produce more than ice cream. Lastly, the ice cream industry has no growth. In recent years they

Charges to customer accounts should be dated with the date of shipment.
Sales invoices are prepared in batches on a daily basis using numbered sales invoices. Sales invoice
numbers are automatically generated by the company s computer system. The accounts receivable
clerk does not have appropriate computer rights to override the computer generated invoice number.
Upon preparing sales invoices, the accounts receivable clerk verifies that the first invoice number of
the batch is consistent with the last invoice number of the previous batch. Inconsistencies or skipped
sales invoice numbers are investigated and resolved before new sales invoices are prepared. The items
shipped are compared to the items billed for proper quantity, price, and other sales order terms.
The accounting department supervisor compares and reconciles a copy of the daily sales invoice batch
report to the daily accounts posting report indicating the individual accounts. The daily account
posting report is prepared and sent by the accounts receivable department. Discrepancies are
investigated and resolved to help assure that the customer subsidiary accounts are posted for the same

Seashells In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury speculated many things, but one thing that he speculated that came
true was people will wear headphones or seashells instead of talking to each other and that we would
talk through the headphones instead of talking on our phones. He showed this when Mildred and
Montag were home together and Mildred has the seashells in her ears. She had both ears plugged with
the electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly, saw him, and nodded
(Bradbury, 22). This happens in our society when students are walking in the halls between classes
and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other. Then he speculated that
people will have bluetooth technology when Montag and Faber

Olaudah Equiano Influence
Luck. If anyone had luck, it was Olaudah Equiano. Olaudah lived through slavery, shipwrecks, and
still wound up being a free educated author. He wrote a book that was the first of its kind and affected
many people in many ways. He used his life and mishaps to influence and help people. There are
many things to know about Olaudah: early life, travel, and the making of his legacy.
Olaudah was born in West Africa, in 1745, in the village of the Igbo tribe, where his father was the
chief. Recent scholars think that he might of been born in the New World instead of Africa (Foner,
page 130 ). When he was 11 he was kidnapped by slave traders along with some of his family. At that
point, he was forced into the Atlantic Slave Trade and was considered a slave. He was then sent to
Barbados. Still traveling in the slave trade system, he went to Virginia (the English colony where most
of the tobacco was grown). From Virginia, Olaudah was sold to a British sea captain. The British sea
captain changed his name from Olaudah Equiano, to Gustavus Vassa (one of the many names people
gave him in his life). While Gustavus was with the sea captain, he was enrolled in an English school
where he learned how to read and write, which he used greatly later on is his life. Also, with the sea
captain, he started to travel the world.
Olaudah traveled numerous places many of which was with with the British sea captain. According to
the Olaudah Equiano Biography, Equiano traveled extensively. He

Pros And Cons Of Heroes
The term hero is viewed differently by separate individuals at various levels. The meaning or who is
considered a hero depends on several factors such as the context, the culture, the virtues, and other
social factors existing in a community. An act can be heroic or offensive depending on where, when or
how a person conducts it. Therefore, a hero is a person who is believed by others to possess powers,
strengths, special achievements or personal qualities which the ordinary man does not have or
someone who is a role model. However, as much as heroes are people who others praise for certain
reasons, they equally possess evident setbacks depending on the different varied views of individuals.
It is, therefore, clear that heroes possess certain qualities which can be viewed positively or negatively
depending on the various individual differences.
One of the pros of heroes is the ability to serve as role models and mentors. The outstanding qualities
of heroes include selflessness, patience, bravery, humility, kindness, and perseverance. Heroes are
people who put others lives first before them. Also, heroes are individuals who sacrifice themselves to
support others to get out of stressful situations despite the hardships they may undergo. In some cases,
heroes sacrifice their lives at the expense of those whom they serve. For instance, soldiers risk their
lives to defend their country from terrorism. Equally, firefighters take courage to rescue lives from
massive fires. Heroes, therefore, are risk takers, brave and capable of leading others to resolve crises
globally or at the personal level. It does not mean that by doing such deeds heroes don t value their
lives, but they value humanity more.
Heroes save lives. They dedicate their careers to help the poor and the underprivileged. They labor to
end social injustice and toil to come up with new medical discoveries. Heroes spend a part of or most
of their time in doing charity work. For instance, providing food for the hungry, visiting the sick and
providing free medication is the work of heroes who serve without reward. Also, those who discover
certain medicines that heal diseases are heroes serving in that capacity. Researchers in the medical
field spend most

Pros And Cons Of Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory is a criminology theory designed by Derek Cornish and Ronald Clark which
states that before people commit a crime they think about what they are going to do (Snook, Dhami,
Kavanagh, 2011). They consider the pros and cons before performing the criminal action. The entire
premise of the rational choice theory is that each individual, regardless of whether rich, poor,
educated, or uneducated, all utilize rationality when making the decision to commit a crime (Taylor,
2013). The rational choice theory postulates that when a person weighs the costs and benefits of a
crime, that person decides whether or not the benefits are worth the risk. It is about maximizing his or
her own self interest (Jacques Wright, 2010). The

Analysis Of The Cradle Will Rock And William Randolph Hearst
Although Hearst denounced the corruption amongst capitalists of his own stature, regardless of his
own tarnished name, a recently uncovered letter from Berlin to Hearst proves his collusion with
federal investigators commissioned by congress in the hunt for communist infiltration in Hollywood
and the entertainment industry. The letter claims that Hearst s people have the complete assurance
from [their] friends in Washington that the result of the investigation made by them ... of the motion
picture industry is available to [them] ... This should be extremely valuable (History). Furthermore,
Hearst used his Yellow Press to push allegations of communist activity in Roosevelt created
government agencies, among the accused agencies, the Federal Theatre Project. In his attacks on
Hollywood and the Federal Theatre Project, Hearst was driven by selfish and possibly personal
ulterior motives. Between the Federal Theatre Project, Hollywood, and William Randolph Hearst
exists one very crucial connection, Orson Welles (Allen, Carmichael). The Boy Wonder entertainer,
who at 21 years old directed the groundbreaking play The Cradle Will Rock , which criticized public
figures just like Hearst. But it isn t the production of this play that brought young Welles ever
promising career to an abrupt halt, to this William Randolph Hearst is responsible. It was not
uncommon in 1920 s and 30 s film and literature to allude to the ostentatious capitalist figures of the
times. Figures like

The Great Nation Of The United States
The great nation of the United States has relied and grown on the basis of a widely used term: The
American Dream . Those three words for many spark feelings of opportunity, hope, and aspirations,
however more so now than ever people are considering the term as three empty and even deceiving
words. The root of the issue lies in the economic state of the working class and the steps that the
government is taking to ensure the virtues of social class mobility in our society. In 2013 Secretary of
Labor Tom Perez proposed to raise the federal hourly minimum wage from the current $7.25 to
$10.10. Since then, there has been heavy political debate and controversy over the proposal and
Congress has yet to act on it. The evidence through social observations and analysis is clear that
raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 would protect the sacred American dream by increasing
opportunity for hard working Americans, stimulating revenue for businesses, and defending the
interests of our nation s consumers and taxpayers. There is no doubt about it; minimum wage workers
who work full time are hard workers who deserve to make ends meet. Unfortunately, for many of
these workers, their minimal salaries are not sustainable for the cost of living. Joanna Cruz is a 30 year
old mother of three who works in the fast food industry of New Jersey. She works full time at
minimum wage and times are tough. Cruz provides for her two daughters twelve and seven, and her

Freed Black and White Women in Liberia
In 1822 the American Colonization Society(ACS), emigrated freed black slaves to Liberia located in
West Africa, however, during this time the indigenous had already been living there (Brown,
Education in Liberia, 46). Unfortunately, there is not much information on women in the colonization.
Scholars have written surprisingly little on the role of women in the movement. The few historians
who have studied women in the colonization movement have examined the rise and decline of female
support in the South (Younger, Philadelphia Ladies Liberia School Association and the Rise and

Many of them were distrustful of the ACS s slaveholding leadership, many suspected that the
movement wanted to remove the free black population in order to strengthen slavery and that it was
part of a larger strategy to strip the free black population of its political influence (Younger, PLLSA,
242). This mistrust spread rapidly and began to appear on abolitionist newspapers. The ACS wanted to
send free blacks to another country so they wouldn t support freeing other slaves. This resulted in
many riots. The city witnessed recurring anti abolitionist and race riots during the 1830s and 1840s as
fears of immediate abolition spread (Younger, PLLSA, 242). The most well known riot that occurred
was he burning of Pennsylvania Hall in May of 1838 by a white crowd. Pennsylvania Hall was where
abolitionists held meetings. White people in Pennsylvania usually didn t involve themselves in these
kinds of actions and they were surprised by all the riots and violence going on. The colonizationialists
gained from these riots of the abolitionist activists rebellions because they played on white racial
fears. Abolitionists were condemned by the the Presbyterian Synod of Philadelphia who warned that
abolishing slavery would rend the Church and the Union in twain (Younger, PLLSA, 243). The church
feared that if slavery was abolished then the Church and the Union would split. Pastors and churches

Anne Sexton Housewife Essay
Anne Sexton s poetry was stark, unrestrained and personal, compared to the traditional. It captivated
her readers with its real, unique sense of style. The poems spoke of intimate, deep experiences. Anne
Sexton s poetry delves into mental illness and death by using imagery, diction and free verse to
convey isolation, depression and the search for identity.
In the poem Housewife, Anne Sexton utilizes the search for identity to delve into her own personal
feelings regarding her role as a wife and mother. She portrays this realization and search for oneself by
using many types of descriptive imagery and diction, lifelong search for identity shaped her poetry

whenever you decide to get there. By using those specific words, Sexton goes against the traditional
poets. Sexton and Plath both have a deep love for death and it is a frequently discussed topic and isn t
new to either of them. The word death is also repeated due to Sexton s obsession with the idea. Death
is something she craved and needed more than water, they wrote about loneliness and alienation, and
they spoke plainly about contemplating suicide (Crowe 2). By examining the words used and Sexton s
tone, you can feel her envy towards her friend by calling her a thief (15). In Sexton s eyes, Plath stole

The Scottsboro Trials And Racial Prejudice
Can racial bias have an effect on the verdict of being guilty or innocent? The American judicial
courtroom has been comprised of the nation s many greatest racial discriminatory cases over the past
century, but the most racially upstanding case, when referring to Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird
includes The Scottsboro Trials. Both stories uprise in the 1930s, displaying a white supremacist
mindset, which two cases fall into the conviction of rape. The Scottsboro case started on a train to
northern Alabama to southern Tennessee, when nine African American boys, ranging in ages from 13
19, allegedly raped two innocent Caucasian women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Racial
discrimination uprises in American judicial system when shown in To Kill a Mockingbird and The
Scottsboro Trials through the racial prejudice within the jury in the courtroom, easy accessibility to
target African Americans, biased accusations, as well as the social pressure to serve in one s defense.
According to American history, prejudice is shown through the courtroom s jury when making
decisions to send the alleged African Americans to jail. On March 24, 1931, nine African American
lives were jeopardized with the false accusations of rape that further scrutinizes the nation s
controversial look upon justice. Referring to Abigail Thernson and Henry Fetter when talking about

Effects Of Abnormal Profits On The Long Run Essay
2. Abnormal Profits in the Long Run
Normal Profit occurs when the average revenue is equal to the average total cost. Abnormal profit is
therefore defined as extra profit above normal profit. In the long run, oligopolies make abnormal
profits, due to the assumption of high barriers to entry. When firms in an industry seem to be making
abnormal profit, it may attract new entrants into the market; causing an increase in supply and
therefore a decrease in price leading to normal profits. However since there are high barriers to entry
in an oligopolistic market, an influx of new firms into the market is highly unlikely, therefore
abnormal profits are sustained in the long run.
Diagram 2.0
3. Non Price Competition
As previously discussed, price stickiness is one of the implications under the assumptions of the
oligopoly model. Since changing price will generally result in the loss of profits and market share;
firms compete using non price related strategies. One of these methods includes product improvement.
If firms improve the quality of the product or implement characteristics that their targeted
demographic enjoy, they can charge more for the product or attract a greater consumer base. Firms
operating in an oligopolistic firm also invest largely in marketing of their product. Raising awareness
regarding the product will encourage more sales if advertisements appeal to audience. Branding and
consumer loyalty is an artificial barrier to entry and a

something that can bring together the Deaf Community. The feelings that the Deaf experience are now
brought onto a canvas. Art plays a huge role in the Deaf community. After all, the Deaf are thought of
as the best visual people. Deaf artists bring their Deaf pride and pour their hearts out into their art
works. They are great role models to the people in their community. The first Deaf artists from
America started in the 1760 s through the early 1800 s. Most of these artists painted portraits of
American settlers in wanting to be recognized. There were no art museums or schools, so they taught
themselves. These artists tried making their living by painting portraits for the wealthy people. Their
artworks were not much different from the hearing world s artwork at the time since there was not a
Deaf culture that was developed yet. Most Deaf artists did not even know of another Deaf person at
that time. The more American developed, the more Deaf schools were being established. Artists
started to study art in France and Europe. Many of their arts reflected European styles because of this.
As more Deaf schools established, many Deaf communities formed a Deaf culture and emerged. The
artists in the communities made their artworks reflecting their lifestyle and surroundings. Deaf art is
now well known within the Deaf culture. Many Deaf artists use their life experiences

Bsbwor501 What Makes A Good Role Model
BSBWOR501 Summative Assessment 2 ? Michelle Rick
1. What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise?
The definition of a role model is a person whose behaviour, example or success can be emulated by
others, especially young people. Their values, actions and behaviours are upheld as an ideal and to be
desired. Being a role model may not be taken in its entirety. It can be broken down allowing a person
to be a role model in one area and not another. Being a manager is not a guarantee to be a role model.
Good leaders will model behaviours that encourage employees to endorse organisational goals and
objectives. By modelling the behaviours you find desirable and that will help reach company gaols
others will also begin to model said behaviours.

English Commentary on Frankenstein
Isolation in Frankenstein This passage is taken from page 119 of chapter 19 in Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein. Closing in on the ending of the novel, this passage explores the self reflecting state of
Frankenstein s mind when in isolation on the Islands of Orkney. Fear arises as a critical emotion that
strikes him during his time spent on his creation. After visiting Edinburgh and a number of other
cities, Frankenstein leaves his friend Henry Clerval and settles in a remote part of the Scottish
countryside to finish the work of creating a partner for the monster. He commences his new creation
driven by his fear of the monster. However, although Frankenstein has agreed to the task, he detests

At that time, his desperate thirst of knowledge and desire for creation blocked out the visual horrors
that were present around him; they went unnoticed. This time around however, he explains I went to it
in cold blood, and my heart often sickened at the work of my hands (Shelly 119). Contrasting to his
first experiment, the enthusiasm that there once was, is now shrouded by fear and sickness of his
creation. Frankenstein now indicates negative perceptions towards experimentation and creation of
life, mostly due to the revolting nature of the monster he had created.
Furthermore, we can see him criticise his job by depicting it as a filthy process (Shelly 119) and the
most detestable occupation (Shelly 120). The diction used here suggests that what he once craved is
now believed to be repulsive and disgusting. His negativity towards his work gives the impression of a
serious and sombre tone that displays the bothered nature in his thoughts. The tone darkens into a
feeling of deep despair once Frankenstein expresses his fear towards the monster. He describes his
spirits as unequal and he is growing restless and nervous. Just with the mention of the monster can
strike uneasy feelings into him, emphasizing the depressive features of the tone.
Shelley emphasizes the word fear many times; she writes I feared to meet my persecutor. Sometimes I
sat with my eyes fixed on the ground, fearing to raise them

Analyzing and Interpreting Data
The ultimate goal of descriptive statistics is to describe a set of data, identify patterns, and draw a
conclusion, which enables an organization to make effective and informed decisions (McClave,
Benson, Sincich, 2011). The company, Ballard Integrated Managed Services (BIMS), a support
services company will leverage statistics to gather information on the company s employees to

Second, questions one through ten qualify as ordinal data because of the relative rankings without
consistent distances. Finally, the time worked for BIMS qualifies as ratio level data because it is easily
ordered, consistent differences and zero is meaningful (McClave, Benson, Sincich, 2011). Each level
of data has unique characteristics, which dictate the way the information is calculated, summarized,
and presented.
Coding and Cleaning the Data
Coding the data is a systematic way in which data is condensed into smaller easily analyzed units
(Lockyer, 2004). By coding the surveys received by BIMs it enables the company to analyze and
interpret the data to draw an informed conclusion. The coding enables the research team to identify
mistakes, and outliers, which improves the data s validity (Lockyer, 2004). To code BIMS data, the
surveys must be numbered, and all corresponding data must be manually entered into Microsoft Excel,
which increases the cost, time, and risk. The data is at risk of being entered incorrectly. Next, the raw
data must be cleaned to ensure validity, relevancy, and accuracy. After the data was imported into
Excel, the data must be reviewed for mistakes. One error that was identified was that a six was entered
into Excel even though a five was observed. By coding and cleaning the data, the researcher will
proactively identify errors or outliers while enabling a computer to complete statistical analysis and

that the artist must be ...a human being and must not be locked up in an ivory tower... I would rather
my music be used then not used at all. Britten throughout his career was not exactly completely
secure, but dedicated his time to his music. In the interview Benjamin talks of how he wanted to give
to society and he was grateful that things in his life were not exactly easy for him. Britten describes
how he needed to trim his artistry, and how that enabled him to start chamber opera as a way to
incorporate his simplicity, not to mention a need to keep financial security. He explains how not many
people were in his orchestras and operas. All of Britten s works were designed to tell a story. Britten
goes on to speak of his childhood and earlier years as a composer with little musical education, and
the host brags about his Aria for God at age 9. The co host of CBC ask him a question Why opera ?,
with and understanding that not many people wrote opera at his time, Britten agrees that it had little

we like human beings, we like studying human beings and what a wonderful way to express it. Britten
understood the origins of opera from the beginning of it time as being of a great humanistic influence

instruments. He goes on to speak about how all instruments imitated the first instrument , the human

Following the international growth and expansion of Corning, the following problems were being

vii) Furthermore, the capital allocation process also changed following the majority shareholding in
foreign subsidiaries. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was done
primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the capital on
their own.
However, after these subsidiaries were acquired by Corning, they were required to submit a formal
capital appropriation request prepared in English. The subsidiary general manager then had to chase it
to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. This allocation system had other major
implications on the relationship between the technical personnel on each side. Whereas before, the
technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to subsidiaries on projects, the
former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on the capital allocation to these
subsidiaries. As a result, the technical managers tended to become more conservative with their advice

CIC found itself grappling with the global marketing coordination necessary for some businesses.

How Did The Ironworks Affect The Economy
The perspective of many historians and textbooks usually consist of the same general understanding of
specific issues in American history. For example, key events or battles such as _____, or common

American history textbooks avoid the topic of widespread manufacturing industries in the south, and
their simultaneous development with the much more powerful agricultural industry. Set in the Deep

economy, as it would be significantly cheaper to purchase tools that had much lower shipping costs
because of where they were manufactured.
In addition, this ironworks was one the earliest, and inspired others to start ironworks. For example,
the Alabama ironworks received information published about them in the Franklin County
Tuscumbian in 1824 . The article described the ironworks as being having a forge, furnace, and saw
and grist mills. This means that the forge supplied their own fuel, purified iron ore, and wrought the
iron into tools for farms. Despite many ironworks not still being here today due to the civil war, it is
understood that there were many ironworks in Alabama that aided in the southern economy through
both aiding plantations and though the eventual exports.
Another significant ironworks in Alabama was the Shelby Ironworks. Although most of the ironworks
development was during the civil war, it consisted of major developments during the antebellum
period leading into the civil war. One of the significant advantages to this forgery was that there was a
very large deposit of iron ore near the furnace, giving the ironworks a great advantage when it came to
quality and quantity of their products. Like the Tannehill ironworks, the Shelby ironworks also sold

Kant And Kant s Philosophy
A transcendental principle is one by which we think the universal a priori condition which alone
things can become objects of our cognition in general[.]
Immanuel Kant, p 20 of Critique of Judgment This quote most aptly describes Kant s purpose in
writing a critique of aesthetic judgment, with the most important term being transcendental. The
Oxford Dictionary defines the word as presupposed in and necessary to experience (what Kant refers
to as a priori). In this sense, it is something that pertains to elements of human experience and then in
turn conditions human knowledge. Basically (and specific to this essay and to Kant s theory), what
needs to be present for a judgment of aesthetics to occur? Kant divides the Analytic of Aesthetic
Judgment into four moments according to the four divisions of the table of logical functions of
judging: quality, quantity, relation and modality. In doing research for this essay, I found that Kant was
interested in analytical investigations into many subjects and did so in an almost scientific fashion, so
this sort of division makes sense. Each moment is serial, and the questions raised in one moment are
then addressed in the following moment. I have used the logical functions of judging to help me find
the moments that judgment takes into consideration when it reflects (Kant, pg. 43). Based on this
context, these moments are not temporal moments, but more realms of thought or consideration. How

apparatus, machine, or system to consistently perform its intended or required function , on demand
and without degradation or failure. This paper proposes to increase the reliability of RAID level 5
arrays used for storing archival data. Here, group of two or three identical RAID arrays are considered
at the initial stage. Next, a shared parity disk is added to each group containing diagonal parities of
their arrays. Now, the new organization can tolerate all double disk failures and between 75 and 89
percent of triple disk failures without incurring any data loss. Two techniques can be used for
increasing reliability such as Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme. This paper
gives a study on Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme for increasing reliability
and also proposes a new sparing technique, double parity sparing. Hence forth the proposed scheme
provides better reliability as compared to the existing.
Keywords RDP, MTTDL, RAID, Reliability.

The Life Styles Conflict Inventory assignment gave me a chance to see on paper how my thinking
styles influence my ability to deal with conflict situation. The life styles survey is geared towards
helping individuals gain an insight into their own self development and personality along with the type
of behaviors we exercise to others as well. By doing the survey, I have a better understanding on how I
can constructively deal with conflict as an individual. The survey also helps us take a look on the
positive and negative qualities of our own personalities and different ways we to build and improve
upon them.

I feel at times I accommodate myself at the approval of others. Like for example, I may act differently
around certain people then I would around people I feel comfortable around. I also try to maintain a
sense of peace and try to smooth over any differences that the group or peers may have. I can honestly
say that I try to stay away from any and every conflict if possible.
My score for aggressive/defensive style which includes escalator, dominator, competitor, and
perfectionist ranked medium/low. The escalator style I scored in the 97th percentile. I wasn t surprised
at my ranking in this field. Growing up I was spoiled as a child and I always got what I wanted. When
conflicts do arise I always get very upset at first and think it s a personal attack against me. It does
have affect on my personal relationship with my boyfriend when we get into arguments. I always try
to find a way to turn the argument around to make myself look good but I know this is unfortunately
self defeating. I know this is probably my biggest downfall among other but I know I can improve on
this in order to become successful. I didn t score to low in the competitor field. I do see winning as an
opportunity for growth and development in the business world. In my eyes, winning shows a since of

Betrayal And Deception In Macbeth
Betray a friend, and you ll often find you ruined yourself, once said Aesop. There are consequences of
betraying and deceiving a friend, and it will change one s life for the worse. One author who
emphasizes the ideal of betrayal and deception is Shakespeare, and it can be seen throughout the play
Macbeth. In the play, Macbeth was an honored and respected high ranking noble in King Duncan s
eyes, and betrayed his king to gain power. Macbeth and his fellow, Banquo were told by mysterious
witches that Macbeth would be crowned king. The prediction from the witches gave Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth a dangerous dose of ambition, which led to them killing the ones closest to them to
become king, including King Duncan and Banquo. Throughout Macbeth, Shakespeare illustrates the

Human nature is centered covering up one s flaws and Macbeth s ambition for power lead him to kill
King Duncan s servants to cover up his own murder, O, yet I do repent me fof my fury, that I did kill
them (Shakespeare II.3.106 107) Macbeth admitted. He admitted to killing the servants because they
killed King Duncan only to cover up his deed, shows his acts of deceit. Along with covering flaws,
human nature emphasizes on the positives of a bad choice and blocks out the negatives. Macbeth
killed Banquo to make sure no one is in the way of him gaining power, and looked beyond betraying
and hurting his best friend and Macbeth tells the murders, It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul s flight, if
it find heaven, must find it out tonight (Shakespeare III.2. 140 141) expresses Macbeth. Another
characteristic of human nature is to hurt ones who support someone you hate, even if they are innocent
or have done no wrong. Macbeth decided to murder MacDuff s family out of fear and hatred. Human
nature can be scary and deceitful, as shown through Macbeth and his choices that betrayed people

Examples Of Eulogy To My Hero
As many of you may know, Prince died yesterday at Paisley Park. Also, many of you know that I was
probably one of his biggest fans since I was eleven years old. To all the friends and family that
messaged me to check if I was okay, I thank you. You guys mean the world to me. I am writing this
post as a tribute to my hero and as an informative to all the people who have been judging me for my
grief over someone I have never met. Like I said earlier, I have loved Prince and his music since I was
eleven years old. At this time, it was only a few years after my grandmother died and was only a few
months before I lost my grandfather. These two beings were so important to me and when I was being
told that Granny only has a ten percent chance of

Neuromancer a Book Written by William Gibson
Neuromancer
The book Neuromancer was written in 1984 and it has blown away the thought barriers with the
author s technology implementation. It was written by a well known author that goes by the name of
William Gibson. In the book we find ourselves in a futuristic Japan where arcades, hacking, drugs,
sex, violence, splicing, and technology has taken over. This is not the Japan we know today, or is it?
In today s world Japan is very much up there with technology. The way the author describes
technology is very plausible when comparing to recent times. With his words he is able to manipulate
our minds into thinking that this is actually can happen. Starting off with RAM (Random Access
Memory) which is used today in every computer. Case the main character tries to sell three megabytes
of RAM which is a hefty amount of memory. The author also talks about other components that can be
found in a computer such as a HDD (hard disk drive), and how they work together with RAM. Gibson
pushes the boundary when talking about splicing or how people can get into other people s minds, and
actually feeling their pain. Other technology such as extended nail blades that Molly has is also hard
to grasp. Questions such as How long are they? or How can those fingers actually hold a blade since
they have joints? cross our minds. These are just two types of technologies out of many that are
mentioned in the book, and that can be questioned as well. This does not mean it is

Firdaus Flat Or Round Characters
To establish of whether Firdaus is a flat character or a round one, we would first have to come to terms
with the multiple, overlapping network of knowledges which continuously disrupt any singular
reading of her. What I mean by this is that Firdaus, the text which she resides in, and the author that
has produced her are situated within discourse the West (and the East as its ideological shadow), the
Arab world (specifically Egypt), and the feminist subject that both strive to produce; that these
discourses work in many ways to contest each other brings into question of their validity. It is to this
point which I argue that flat or round characters are not static ontologies but produce alternative
reading of effaced or obscured by other in

Benefits Of Peer Mentoring
Juvenile mentoring programs have shown to be extremely successful for both mentor and mentee.
Mentoring programs builds connections and within those connections there is guidance, support, and
knowledge being shared on both ends. Mentoring at risk youth is essentially to improve academic
achievement, improve interpersonal skills and for personal development. Choosing between cross age
mentoring and peer mentoring has to be intentional and should be based off of what the youth needs.
Peer mentoring is defined as: two youths of different ages that reflects a greater degree of hierarchical
power imbalance than is typical of a friendship and in which the goal is for the older youth to promote
one or more aspects of the younger youth s development (The Handbook of Youth Mentoring by
David Dubois). Because of the small age difference, mentees feel comfortable and compelled to share
any thoughts, ideas, and ask more questions. Being close in age allows the mentor to be able to
understand and relate to what their mentee is expressing. From this, the mentor can present solutions
or advice.
Cross age mentoring is essentially adult to youth mentoring. A lot of the at risk youth do not have
solid adult figures in their lives; having an older mentor can fill this void. Cross age tutoring is argued
to be more effective than other techniques because adults are seen as role models since they have more
life experience. Mentoring has emerged as a promising approach for enriching

  • 2. The Reason Why La Tomatina The reason why La Tomatina is a big deal for people because it is a colorful tradition and make a good excuse to show of young people throwing vegetables to each other. Before 2013 anywhere from forty thousand to fifty thousand people crammed into this tomato fight. Numbers of people came to this special celebration created a success. Last year s event bought some forty thousand people, due to safety concerns of oversize of the crowd the organizers cut amount of people who were joining the fight. It is almost unimportant in the landscape of popular Spanish celebrations. It was virtually unknown outside of the small village where it is held until somehow it caught the eye of some major media outlet. Another reason why some people do not participate is because they do not like tomato to be thrown at. They replied that it is messy and people get hurt if they slip over. In this special celebration, there is no political or religion importance to La Tomatina. In 1980, the organization of the festival became the responsibility of the town. Soon this celebration became internationally considerable and highly broadcasted by the use of international media. In the beginning, it was forbidden in the early 1950 s but people spoke and the celebration was allowed with more contestants and more frenetic feelings. The festivity was again cancelled till 1957, when as a sign of protest, the tomato burial was held. Many parts of the world joined Tomatina like Chicago and etc. They also ... • 3. Leadership In The Odyssey The Oxford dictionary defines empowerment as, The authority or power given to someone to do something. Leaders use empowerment to improve employee reliance and commitment to the company, by providing them with the ability to make decisions when it is needed. By granting them this authority, the employee would be given control of a portion of the business which would provide an incentive to work harder for the company with the chance for more authority and responsibility in the future. In this paper, we shall provide a brief history of a major reference to empowerment leadership styles, ways to empower employees, and the effect of employee empowerment in a company. The history of leadership empowerment can be dated back to the early Greeks. This can be seen from Homer s Odyssey which was used to teach the people of ancient Greece to recognize good leadership when it presented itself and how to identify crucial elements of good leadership such as respect and reciprocity. This story would go on to help shape the idea of leadership and empowerment by detailing the story of Odysseus a soldier who goes to war and his journey home. During his trials and journey, he encounters many challenges, but is empowered by the Greek Gods to complete his tests. From Homer s book, this idea of leadership would spread across the ... • 4. Antony Flew on Christian Life People always tend to give high attention to individuals who turned their backs on their once held beliefs to argue that (Christian) faith is unreasonable and without real substance. Rationality seems to be the source of every argument for the non existence of God, and is often understood as inherently opposing to faith. However, the story of Antony Flew is one that atheists can and should not discard, as he experienced something very different. Born into a Christian family Flew grew up in the church and was exposed to Christian beliefs and customs. He never really found a personal connection to Christianity and converted to Atheism, but after decades of arguing the non existence of God, he came to the conclusion that there is no other possibility than the validity of the existence of God. This process is documented in There is a God. Antony Flew is considered one of the, some might argue the most important, proponents of atheism in the 20th century and his works made major contributions to the argumentation of atheism. The author begins his personal story, some might call it testimony, with explaining the process of becoming an atheist in the first place, before rejecting it after all these years. Born as the son of a Methodist minister and preacher, Flew went to a Christian school, and was, as he calls himself, a committed and conscientious, if unenthusiastic, Christian (p.10). He did not feel a personal connection to God and was not interested in any kind of worship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Disappearance Of Childhood Analysis In the book, The Disappearance of Childhood, Postman s overall claim is that childhood is disappearing because children are able to get access to information about adult secrets. I agree with Postman s main argument; however, I disagree with some of his claims that he used to support the main argument. In chapter 1, Postman claimed that children who are participating in games such as Little League baseball and Pee Wee football are playing because they are pursuing reputation, not because they wanted to do something fun, or because they were pursuing pleasure. I disagree with Postman s claim since I believe in the exact opposite. I believe that for a child to play sports in their own time, they must first enjoy that sport. Postman claims that with adultified child , children who think and act similar to adults, and childfied adult , where adults think and act similar to children, children s and adults beliefs and characteristics are merging into one. The Papua New Guinea s Supreme Court ruling that Australia s detention of asylum seekers on Manus Island is illegal and that the centre must close has once again raised in Australian society the very divisive issue of asylum seekers and their treatment. With continual political, humanitarian and media attention, the histrionics surrounding the issue are rife and many of the crucial facts as to Australia s response to asylum seekers and the purpose for our offshore processing centres long forgotten. It ensured that people smugglers had no product to sell. It was aimed at preventing people embarking on a trip across dangerous seas with the high risk of death. Department Of Homeland Security On March 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) started a nationwide campaign to warn against the dangers faced by the U.S. utilities against the cyberattacks. According to DHS, there were an estimated 331 hacks or physical attacks against the U.S. power grid from 2011 to 2014. As of February 2016, they are occurring at a rate of once every 4 days. A major cyberattack on the U.S. electric grid could cause over $1 trillion in economic damage, estimates ThreatTrackSecurity.com. (MacDonald, 2016, pg. 2). To detect a cyberattack on the power grid, Western Interconnection should implement a system that will allow public and private authorities to receive Indications and Warning (I W) when a cyberattack is in its early phase. Koester and Cohen (2012) discuss their Electric Power Grid Indications Warning Tool in their paper. The purpose of this tool is to provide near real time I W to alert private and public sector authorities when the likely causes of outage events are malicious activity. (Koester Cohen, 2012, p. 1). The tool minimizes false alarms due to severe weather and high temperatures. Implementing this solution will allow administrators at the Western Interconnection power grid to take precautionary measures as necessary. For example, the substations can be manually shutdown in case of a cyberattack, to prevent potential damage and spread of malware. In addition to the aforementioned tool, a ... • 9. Wetback Domination Analysis Wetback Domination Many immigrants coming to the United States are criticized by their appearance. People often like to call out how they are not from here calling them wetbacks and telling them to go back to where they came from. Here the author is defending the rights of immigrants and people who where born in the United States and are of Mexican decent. The perspective of wetbacks is their skin and there appearance how they look makes them Mexican. What i mean by appearance is that you can tell who is from here and who is not by the way they dress and use there hair. The perception of wetbacks is there color BROWN its how its seen. If you look Mexican you must be Mexican. For example like people of African decent are considered BLACK and it could mean their badge, it could represent a person, and it could represent a condition. Speaking a certain language makes them a certain race. Just because a person speaks Spanish doesn t determine whether they are Mexican or not. If they dont speak english they are automatically considered wetbacks. I agree with the author when he states that the way a person looks makes them a target of discrimination. Mexican Americans are stigmatized because of their complexion they are slightly darker than other races. Society stereotypes Mexican Americans just because they are not like others they are seen as different in so many ways. Like their color, there economic standing, and the way they are portrayed. The Virginia Statue For Religious Freedom Essay In 1832, a contractor that went by the name of Philip Duffy owned a stretch of a railroad line about thirty miles west of Philadelphia, Mile 59. He hired countless Irish Catholic immigrants to work for him and continue to build the line for the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad, now connecting Philadelphia to the Main Line. Not only were the working conditions terrible, with the wooded hills and ravines, but less than two months after the workers came to Philadelphia, they were assumed to have died from the Cholera outbreak that was a worldwide pandemic for the second time. On June 23, Duffy met an arriving bark called the John Stamp on the Philadelphia docks that had sailed from Derry in April with a shipload of Irish laborers, mainly Catholics from Donegal, Tyrone, and Derry. He acquired his work crew for mile 59 primarily from the men of the John Stamp. The site eventually was named Duffy s Cut for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of illegal immigration is a problem since many take advantage of the social services provided by the government without contributing towards the country since they are not citizens and many people see these illegal immigrants as a threat to their employment. Though attitudes towards immigrants are negative, immigration was not always bad, in fact it was once welcomed into America when it lacked a strong labor force. Most immigrants working in the U.S during this time learned that life as a worker here was better than their previous life. Both skilled and unskilled workers boosted the economy in strong times, but when the economy was on a fall, the unskilled laborers were hit hardest of all (Andryszewski 52). Effects of immigration on the economy also raise the argument over social service abuse, which is immigrants using social services provided by the government without paying social service taxes or being in the right legal status to obtain those services. Many have argued that illegal immigrants should not be entitled to health care services and public education should be denied to illegal immigrant children. Dantes Inferno Essay Dante s use of allegory in the Inferno greatly varies from Plato s quot;Allegory of the Cave quot; in purpose, symbolism, characters and mentors, and in attitude toward the world. An analysis of each of these elements in both allegories will provide an interesting comparison. Dante uses allegory to relate the sinner s punishment to his sin, while Plato uses allegory to discuss ignorance and knowledge. Dante s Inferno describes the descent through Hell from the upper level of the opportunists to the most evil, the treacherous, on the lowest level. His allegorical poem describes a hierarchy of evil. In death they are doomed to exist with their heads on backwards and their eyes overflowing with tears so that not only could they not see what was happening in front of them, but they could not see at all due to these copious amounts of tears. Similarly, each sin had its own logical punishment, and each group of sinners received the same punishment, with only a few exceptions. Such an exception can be found in Canto XXlll when Caiaphas lies crucified on the floor while the other hypocrites walk around him in circles. He is set apart because he counseled a Roman to crucify Jesus. While the sinners represent man s imperfections, Virgil symbolizes human reason. Throughout the poem, Virgil uses logic and reason to convince the monsters to allow him to gain passage to the various circles of Hell. The use of characters and mentors is distinct in each piece. quot; The Allegory of the Cave quot; presents few characters, and except for the one prisoner who ascends from the cave, none are distinguished from the others. The one freed prisoner attempts to become a mentor to the others but fails. As he tries to enlighten the remaining prisoners he is received with anger and threats. Labor on slave plantations was far more demanding than in the household slavery common in Africa, and the death rate among slaves much higher. There are many things to know about Olaudah: early life, travel, and the making of his legacy. Olaudah was born in West Africa, in 1745, in the village of the Igbo tribe, where his father was the chief. Recent scholars think that he might of been born in the New World instead of Africa (Foner, page 130 ). When he was 11 he was kidnapped by slave traders along with some of his family. At that point, he was forced into the Atlantic Slave Trade and was considered a slave. He was then sent to Barbados. • 23. Pros And Cons Of Heroes The term hero is viewed differently by separate individuals at various levels. The meaning or who is considered a hero depends on several factors such as the context, the culture, the virtues, and other social factors existing in a community. An act can be heroic or offensive depending on where, when or how a person conducts it. Therefore, a hero is a person who is believed by others to possess powers, strengths, special achievements or personal qualities which the ordinary man does not have or someone who is a role model. However, as much as heroes are people who others praise for certain reasons, they equally possess evident setbacks depending on the different varied views of individuals. It is, therefore, clear that heroes possess certain qualities which can be viewed positively or negatively depending on the various individual differences. One of the pros of heroes is the ability to serve as role models and mentors. The outstanding qualities of heroes include selflessness, patience, bravery, humility, kindness, and perseverance. Heroes are people who put others lives first before them. Also, heroes are individuals who sacrifice themselves to support others to get out of stressful situations despite the hardships they may undergo. In some cases, heroes sacrifice their lives at the expense of those whom they serve. For instance, soldiers risk their lives to defend their country from terrorism. Equally, firefighters take courage to rescue lives from massive fires. Heroes, therefore, are risk takers, brave and capable of leading others to resolve crises globally or at the personal level. It does not mean that by doing such deeds heroes don t value their lives, but they value humanity more. Heroes save lives. They dedicate their careers to help the poor and the underprivileged. They labor to end social injustice and toil to come up with new medical discoveries. Heroes spend a part of or most of their time in doing charity work. For instance, providing food for the hungry, visiting the sick and providing free medication is the work of heroes who serve without reward. The entire premise of the rational choice theory is that each individual, regardless of whether rich, poor, educated, or uneducated, all utilize rationality when making the decision to commit a crime (Taylor, 2013). Those three words for many spark feelings of opportunity, hope, and aspirations, however more so now than ever people are considering the term as three empty and even deceiving words. The root of the issue lies in the economic state of the working class and the steps that the government is taking to ensure the virtues of social class mobility in our society. In 2013 Secretary of Labor Tom Perez proposed to raise the federal hourly minimum wage from the current $7.25 to $10.10. Since then, there has been heavy political debate and controversy over the proposal and Congress has yet to act on it. The evidence through social observations and analysis is clear that raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 would protect the sacred American dream by increasing opportunity for hard working Americans, stimulating revenue for businesses, and defending the interests of our nation s consumers and taxpayers. This resulted in many riots. The city witnessed recurring anti abolitionist and race riots during the 1830s and 1840s as fears of immediate abolition spread (Younger, PLLSA, 242). The most well known riot that occurred was he burning of Pennsylvania Hall in May of 1838 by a white crowd. Pennsylvania Hall was where abolitionists held meetings. White people in Pennsylvania usually didn t involve themselves in these kinds of actions and they were surprised by all the riots and violence going on. The colonizationialists gained from these riots of the abolitionist activists rebellions because they played on white racial fears. Abolitionists were condemned by the the Presbyterian Synod of Philadelphia who warned that abolishing slavery would rend the Church and the Union in twain (Younger, PLLSA, 243). The American judicial courtroom has been comprised of the nation s many greatest racial discriminatory cases over the past century, but the most racially upstanding case, when referring to Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird includes The Scottsboro Trials. Both stories uprise in the 1930s, displaying a white supremacist mindset, which two cases fall into the conviction of rape. The Scottsboro case started on a train to northern Alabama to southern Tennessee, when nine African American boys, ranging in ages from 13 19, allegedly raped two innocent Caucasian women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Racial discrimination uprises in American judicial system when shown in To Kill a Mockingbird and The Scottsboro Trials through the racial prejudice within the jury in the courtroom, easy accessibility to target African Americans, biased accusations, as well as the social pressure to serve in one s defense. According to American history, prejudice is shown through the courtroom s jury when making decisions to send the alleged African Americans to jail. On March 24, 1931, nine African American lives were jeopardized with the false accusations of rape that further scrutinizes the nation s controversial look upon justice. • 30. Effects Of Abnormal Profits On The Long Run Essay 2. Abnormal Profits in the Long Run Normal Profit occurs when the average revenue is equal to the average total cost. Abnormal profit is therefore defined as extra profit above normal profit. In the long run, oligopolies make abnormal profits, due to the assumption of high barriers to entry. When firms in an industry seem to be making abnormal profit, it may attract new entrants into the market; causing an increase in supply and therefore a decrease in price leading to normal profits. However since there are high barriers to entry in an oligopolistic market, an influx of new firms into the market is highly unlikely, therefore abnormal profits are sustained in the long run. Diagram 2.0 3. Non Price Competition As previously discussed, price stickiness is one of the implications under the assumptions of the oligopoly model. Since changing price will generally result in the loss of profits and market share; firms compete using non price related strategies. One of these methods includes product improvement. If firms improve the quality of the product or implement characteristics that their targeted demographic enjoy, they can charge more for the product or attract a greater consumer base. Firms operating in an oligopolistic firm also invest largely in marketing of their product. Raising awareness regarding the product will encourage more sales if advertisements appeal to audience. Most of these artists painted portraits of American settlers in wanting to be recognized. There were no art museums or schools, so they taught themselves. Closing in on the ending of the novel, this passage explores the self reflecting state of Frankenstein s mind when in isolation on the Islands of Orkney. Fear arises as a critical emotion that strikes him during his time spent on his creation. After visiting Edinburgh and a number of other cities, Frankenstein leaves his friend Henry Clerval and settles in a remote part of the Scottish countryside to finish the work of creating a partner for the monster. Contrasting to his first experiment, the enthusiasm that there once was, is now shrouded by fear and sickness of his creation. Frankenstein now indicates negative perceptions towards experimentation and creation of life, mostly due to the revolting nature of the monster he had created. Furthermore, we can see him criticise his job by depicting it as a filthy process (Shelly 119) and the most detestable occupation (Shelly 120). The diction used here suggests that what he once craved is now believed to be repulsive and disgusting. His negativity towards his work gives the impression of a serious and sombre tone that displays the bothered nature in his thoughts. The tone darkens into a feeling of deep despair once Frankenstein expresses his fear towards the monster. He describes his spirits as unequal and he is growing restless and nervous. Just with the mention of the monster can strike uneasy feelings into him, emphasizing the depressive features of the tone. Before the consolidation, the decision process for capital allocation was done primarily by the local managers of the foreign affiliate, who would then go out and raise the capital on their own. The subsidiary general manager then had to chase it to the end through a series of corporate decision making filters. Whereas before, the technical managers from the parent company provided assistance to subsidiaries on projects, the former now became a part of the judge and jury system to decide on the capital allocation to these subsidiaries. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word as presupposed in and necessary to experience (what Kant refers to as a priori). In this sense, it is something that pertains to elements of human experience and then in turn conditions human knowledge. Basically (and specific to this essay and to Kant s theory), what needs to be present for a judgment of aesthetics to occur? Kant divides the Analytic of Aesthetic Judgment into four moments according to the four divisions of the table of logical functions of judging: quality, quantity, relation and modality. In doing research for this essay, I found that Kant was interested in analytical investigations into many subjects and did so in an almost scientific fashion, so this sort of division makes sense. Each moment is serial, and the questions raised in one moment are then addressed in the following moment. I have used the logical functions of judging to help me find the moments that judgment takes into consideration when it reflects (Kant, pg. 43). Based on this context, these moments are not temporal moments, but more realms of thought or consideration. How are the conceptual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book we find ourselves in a futuristic Japan where arcades, hacking, drugs, sex, violence, splicing, and technology has taken over. This is not the Japan we know today, or is it? In today s world Japan is very much up there with technology. The way the author describes technology is very plausible when comparing to recent times. • 47. Benefits Of Peer Mentoring Juvenile mentoring programs have shown to be extremely successful for both mentor and mentee. Mentoring programs builds connections and within those connections there is guidance, support, and knowledge being shared on both ends. Mentoring at risk youth is essentially to improve academic achievement, improve interpersonal skills and for personal development. Choosing between cross age mentoring and peer mentoring has to be intentional and should be based off of what the youth needs. Peer mentoring is defined as: two youths of different ages that reflects a greater degree of hierarchical power imbalance than is typical of a friendship and in which the goal is for the older youth to promote one or more aspects of the younger youth s development (The Handbook of Youth Mentoring by David Dubois). Because of the small age difference, mentees feel comfortable and compelled to share any thoughts, ideas, and ask more questions. Being close in age allows the mentor to be able to understand and relate to what their mentee is expressing. From this, the mentor can present solutions or advice. Cross age mentoring is essentially adult to youth mentoring. A lot of the at risk youth do not have solid adult figures in their lives; having an older mentor can fill this void. Cross age tutoring is argued to be more effective than other techniques because adults are seen as role models since they have more life experience.
