Graffiti Art Or Vandalism Essay
Composing an essay on the subject of "Graffiti Art Or Vandalism" poses a unique set of
challenges, as it requires navigating through the intricate web of perspectives surrounding this
controversial topic. The difficulty lies in striking a delicate balance between acknowledging
graffiti as a form of artistic expression and addressing the concerns related to its often unlawful
nature.
To begin with, one must delve into the rich history of graffiti, tracing its roots from ancient cave
paintings to the modern street art movement. Analyzing the cultural significance and evolution
of graffiti as an art form demands a keen understanding of the diverse motivations driving artists
to utilize public spaces as their canvas.
However, the complexity arises when addressing the clash between artistic expression and
societal norms. Arguments supporting graffiti as a legitimate form of art highlight its ability to
convey powerful messages, challenge social norms, and beautify urban landscapes. On the flip
side, critics argue that graffiti, when done without permission, amounts to vandalism and raises
concerns about property damage, public safety, and the overall degradation of public spaces.
Navigating through these opposing viewpoints requires careful consideration of both sides,
backed by thorough research and a nuanced understanding of the legal and ethical implications.
Crafting an essay that presents a well-rounded perspective while maintaining a coherent and
convincing argument demands a delicate balance between acknowledging the artistic merits of
graffiti and addressing the legitimate concerns raised by its detractors.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Graffiti Art Or Vandalism" entails grappling with
a myriad of perspectives and weaving them together into a cohesive narrative. It demands a deep
dive into the history, cultural context, and ethical considerations surrounding graffiti, making it a
challenging yet intellectually stimulating task.

Reflection On The Twenty Second Amendment Of The...
The twenty second amendment of the Constitution of United States states that, No
person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person
who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years
of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the
office of the President more than once. I fully support this amendment and believe
that it has helped our country many times. As the book says in Chapter 6, Popular
wisdom has it that second termers are therefore lame duck(pg.111) , I feel that this
is a very true statement. I feel that the general populations mindset that second and
third terms for presidents are usually duds did not just happen suddenly. I believe
these views evolved over a longer amount of times. People began seeing presidential
success fall off as the president returned to office after their first term and formed
their opinions off of these personal observations. The book confirms this idea,
Conventional wisdom holds that second terms are fraught with peril, a view
confirmed by scandals and crises in earlier presidencies... Show more content on

Financial Crisis in South Korea
International strategic management| South Korea, financial crisis| Melissa

South Korea s current account balance started to deteriorate in 1990, due to the
rising inflation, appreciation of the Korean won and the recession of the world
economy. In 1991 the current account recorded a deficit of $8.7 billion, which was
more than four times the level of the preceding year. The Korean government
encouraged capital inflows in order to finance the growing current account deficit. To
achieve this objective, capital account liberalisation was accelerated in 1991by
altering the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
The limited capital account liberalisation implemented resulted ... Show more content

The asset value declined further.
Many businesses failed to guarantee returns and profitability. Due to the high rates of
economic growth and the booming economy, private firms and corporations looked
to finance speculative investment projects. However, firms overstretched themselves
and a combination of factors caused depreciation in the exchange rate as they
struggled to meet the payments.
The South Korean corporate governance structure was known for its technical and
ethical inefficiency well before the crisis. The existence of a small number of large
business conglomerates, chaebols, is widely considered to be one of the biggest
problems in South Korean society. This governance system was fertile ground for
inefficiency and corruption. A study shows that only 27percent of the 570 non
financial firms created shareholder value during the five years before the crises.
The South Korean conglomerates were more or less completely controlled by the
government and simply absorbed growing capital investment. Eventually, excess debt
led to key failures and takeovers. In the midst of the Asian market downturn, South
Korea s credit rating was lowered on 28 November 1997 and downgraded again on
11 December. That contributed to an additional decline in South Korean shares since
stock markets were already bearish in November.
The inability of the Korean government to respond early to potential
Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder
ABSTRACT
Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States.
Although this disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly
affected and may go undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is
important to understand the risk factors associated with the development of eating
disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual
orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder
type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males
typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia
Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise
Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive
exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods
commonly seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are
available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared toward the
female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males,
have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology
and their psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of
gender, is necessary to prevent the development of medical and psychological
comorbidities. This process cannot begin until the diagnosis has been made;
therefore, additional
Essay on Sweat Zora Neale Hurston
Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston is filled with many religious symbolism. Good versus
evil plays a large role in the development of Delia and Skype Jones, as characters.
The story is about Delia, an African American woman who is a washwoman for
whites. Delia consistently looks to her religion for guidance and support as she
endures the many hardships that she faces because, which are caused by her abusive
husband and unfaithful husband, Sykes. Delia and Sykes Jones is a couple that have
opposite moral values, but yet they are tied together through marital vows, that no

Since Sykes is the one creating these scare tactics to Delia, he can also be seen as a
symbol of evil, which he becomes the evil antagonist of the story. These two
instances could also be seen in the religious aspect with Adam and Eve. Another
symbol that was present in the story was the dark grey sky. The dark grey sky
symbolically means evil, remorse, and sadness. The dark grey sky came about
when the snake Sykes used to scare Delia with, bites and kills him. While Sykes
was dying, he was now feeling remorse for all his evil doings that he has done to
Delia, so we think because he was calling out for her after the snake had bitten him.
As the sky clears the story brings about another last symbol. Eventually, at the end
of the story is when the reader can really see the Good vs. Evil. Sykes soon begins to
reap is sowing (par26), when he comes home and is killed by the snake, the one
thing that he had used to scare Delia with so bad that she would leave, or die even.
As Sykes is dying the sky begins to clear and the sun begins to rise. The clear, light
sky and the sun represents freedom, purity, and peace, and the clear sky can also
represent the Delia s character as well as the white clothes that were mentioned in
the beginning of the story. In all the symbols that were present in the story, the most
important symbol was Delia s sweat. Delia s work worn knees crawled

The Parthenon
The Parthenon or its full name which is the Periclean Parthenon of Athens is a
classical Greek structure ordered by the Athenian General at that time, General
Pericles, who was responsible for the construction of many important temples. The
Parthenon was considered the best temple built by Pericles. It was built as a
replacement for a damaged Athenian temple, which was destroyed by the Persian
Empire in 480 BCE. The construction of the Parthenon was in the hands of two
architects Iktinos and Kallikrates. The cost of the constructions was 469 silver
talents. Soon in the middle of the 5th century BCE the construction of the Parthenon
had begun. It had costed 469 silver talents for the construction of the Athenian
temple. In 432 BCE, the construction of the Athenian temple finished with the same
designs like many other Greek temples. The majority of many Greek temples had
the same structural design, with lots of supporting columns to hold up the triangular
roof. Inside is an interior room where a statue for all who come to worship is
located. The interior room was too small to fit all the worshippers inside, so the
worshipper had to stay outside to pray, unless they wanted to bring offerings to Athena
. Inside the interior room of the Parthenon was a statue of the Greek Goddess of
wisdom, Athena. This is because they believed that Athena had helped the Athenians

Comparing Dziga Vertov s Film, Man with a Movie Camera and Run Lola Run
The main and essential thing is : the sensory exploration of the world through film.
We therefore take as a point of departure the use of the camera as a keno eye, more
perfect than the human eye, for the exploration of the chaos of visual phenomena that
fills space.
Dziga Vertov , Manifesto The Council of Three (1923)
The innovative theories and filmmaking techniques of Dziga Vertov revolutionized
the way films are made today. Man With a Movie Camera (1929), a documentary that
represented the peak of the Soviet avant garde film movement in the twenties,

His original ways of thinking, isolated him from all other filmmakers. Even his
style of using montage (editing style commonly used by Soviet directors) in Man
with a Movie Camera was very different. In this film, hours of footage are edited
together in many cuts, which is the style that Vertov is well known for. His cuts are
very rapid and he displays them accordingly to music to add excitement to the
sequence. The sequences act on all three levels of montage: narrative, intellectual, and
emotional. For example in the beginning of Man with a Movie Camera, there is a
sequence in a theatre where the cameraman sets up the film for the audience to watch
(appendix 1). The lights come on, the seats go down, the cameraman sets up the
projector, the audience enters, the lights dim, the orchestra awaits and then the
manifest begins. The narration comes from the editor throughout the whole film. The
cameraman cannot possibly be the narrator since he is randomly out of frame and it
is a silent film.
From the very beginning... the centrality of the cameraman s vision is put into
question, since he moves out
A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Mercedes Benz Soul
Commercial
I am not a car person myself, but I found the Mercedes Benz Soul commercial quite
humorous. In the commercial, an average guy might make a deal with the devil.
The devil is William Dafoe. It is implied that the average guy will get the car if he
signs his life away. The average guy will be able to drive fast, be famous and gets
date with the women as framed in the commercial. Kate Upton makes an
appearance as one of the women, as if making the car more desirable. The
advertisement is blatantly being used to get people to go purchase cars. I would
consider myself unbiased towards Mercedes. I am not uppity or that into cars. A
car is merely a car to me. It is used to get me to point b from point a. I am not into
looking flashy or getting attention. The car is made to seem like a great deal. The
commercial wants the audience to think that it is affordable, and no one has to sign a

The car company wants the average male to think that this car will make his life a

have not made up their mind about buying a car to buy car. The car is not just for
the wealthy, because part of the pitch is that the car is affordable for an average
middle class person. The commercial is more targeted at males because the car is
more masculine. The car is sporty. For example, the average guy is pretending to
drive the car on a race track. This gives the illusion that it is a fast car which makes
it more desirable. The audience may think twice about this car, when they go to

The Effects Of Video Games On Pop Culture

they previously were thanks to different mediums (such as television and music)
helping to push boundaries; with this came the birth of pop culture. Considering
pop culture is a shortened version of popular culture it s clear that many of the
things in pop culture would be short lived. The short lived trends and happenings
are labeled as fads . Strangely enough, some fads are made to transform and actually

Caitlyn Jenner Speech Analysis
Communication is a process that allows us to construct identities based on the
interpretation and intention of speech acts. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce
Jenner, spent most her life identified by her master identity as a cis white male and
until a few years ago she adopted the interactional identity of a transgender female. In
this paper, I will demonstrate how various forms of speech acts build, remain and
/or change the master and interactional identity of Caitlyn Jenner as well as her
relationships to others. To do so I will explain how Caitlyn Jenner seeks advice from
her close family member Scott Disick to help her understand the variety of speech
acts coming from both her private and public life: ranging from Scott who
demonstrate faceredress and accept her based on her new interaction identity as a
female, while also dealing with the face threats that come from those (particularly
males) who only see her as her previous master identity as a male. To start, in lines 1
and 4 Caitlyn seeks to understand the perspective that guy s have on her transition,
in both lines she draws out the word guy to emphasize her lack of understanding on
how males think. She notes that she s struggled with it (male s perspective) even
though contextually she had the master identity of a male the majority of her life,
she has always struggled with the standards that come with that identity and that still
remains. Therefore, she seeks the perspective of a close male in her family to
provide her with that outlook. In contrast, Scott, who possess the master identity of a
male and also accepts it as an interactional identity chooses to influx and draw out
the word me in line 7 in his account that not every male will be comfortable with her
change in identity because while he notes that he is comfortable with her change in
line 24, he also draws out the word every to signify that he is inferring that male
perspectives are not always homogenous and he does this by using an upward
intonation of I to highlight the contrast which is prevalent through his tone change
between both words. Additionally, in line 25, Caitlyn utilizes the example of Kris
Humphries tweet that was an indirect face threat about her transition

Essay on The Digestive System
The Digestive System
What are the main functions in digestion of the
a) mouth
b) stomach
c) small intestine
The mouth takes in the food and uses the teeth and the salivary glands do break
down the food so it could move onto the next phase. The teeth chew food while the
salivary glands, liver, bile duct and pancreas produce digestive juices to break down
food.
The stomach is a L shaped, organ situated on the left side of the abdominal cavity
beneath the diaphragm. At either end of this organ is a sphincter muscle which
contracts and relaxes to control the movement of food in and out of he stomach. The
stomach churns the food and releases gastric juices to help break it down. ... Show

The pharynx pushes the food down into the oesophagus also known as the food
pipe. The oesophagus uses the process of peristalsis to propel the food down
towards the stomach. The stomach uses hydrochloric acid and pepsin to help with
the break down of food the stomach churns the food for the process of breaking
down the food and then leaves the stomach in the form of chyme. This then enters
the small intestine, this is where all the nutrients in the food are absorbed. Also in
the digestive process the pancreas and the liver also play a part. The pancreas
releases hormone in the body via the blood steam as well as that it also produces
enzymes such as, Trysin which digests proteins and breaks them down into amino
acids,
Amylase which continues the digestion of starch,
Lipase which breaks down the fats into fatty acids and glycerol,
The pancreas also keeps a check on the amount of glucose in the blood. If the levels
of glucose are too high or too low, it produces hormones that stimulate the liver to
adjust the balance. The liver has a number of functions such as,
Storing and filtering blood,
Secreting bile to help break down fat,
Detoxification of harmful substances such as alcohol, paracetomol and other
chemicals into safer form,
Storage of

The Cost of Tubular Travel and Our Environment People work hard throughout the
year and ponder their next vacation of where they are going and how they are going
to get there. With that in mind, they also worry about the expense. Is the weather
going to cooperate? Is their luggage going to arrive? Have you ever been sitting at the
bank drive through, watching people submitting their transactions by way of
pneumatic tubes? Imagine being inside that pod travelling at 800 miles per hour with
no worries of the above mentioned. Why not alleviate travel concerns and climb

mentioned an automated laser level leveling system for the exterior pads that the

no fuel pricing to consider or fleet equipment costs to endure. * Elon Musk

about $7billion, or a tenth of the projected cost of California s beleaguered high

The Pursuit Of Holiness By Jeff Bridges
Did you ever wonder what it truly means to be holy? Jeff Bridges, a bestselling
author, wrote a book called The Pursuit of Holiness that explains just about
everything you need to know about being holy and God s holiness. Bridges
believes that holiness is something that Christians often have trouble including in
their life on a day to day basis. He speculates that the reason we have so much trouble
with applying holiness to our lives is because we struggle in identifying what we
have to do in order to be holy in the eyes of God. Bridges tackles this concept and
breaks down the things that you can apply and remove from your life to pursue
holiness.
Without a doubt, God created us with an image in mind that we would spread the
Kingdom of God across all nations and impact others with our actions and
personality. Bridges uses an analogy to introduce us to the idea of being dependent
on God. He explains how a farmer puts in hard work and a lot of time into a garden,
even though he knows that he is entirely dependent on outside forces such as rain and
sunshine. He can t control these things, yet he is still trusting that they will come and
make his garden flourish. Bridges also makes it known that he believes that holiness
is not something that we can ever fully obtain. It is a process that takes continual
effort.
There are no exceptions to God s call for holiness in the lives of Christians. The
reason that we are called to live a holy life is because God, Himself, is
The Invention Of The Radio In The 1930 s
Not long after Reginald s first broadcast on the radio, Frank Conrad used the
phonograph to play records instead of playing instruments like Reginald. By using
records Conrad could see the most popular music by seeing the increased number of
records bought. When he substituted a phonograph for his microphone, he discovered
a large audience of listeners who had built their own crystal radio sets and who, upon
hearing the music, wrote or phoned requests for more music and news. shown on the
National Museum Of Broadcastingwebsite (Radio Fever). Conrad influenced radio
broadcasters to begin using the technology because of the popularity increase after
using a device to make life easier. DJs have been popular ever since the beginning
with bringing a new and exciting idea to the world.
Before the 1920 s everyone could broadcast anything on air with the proper

The Romantic Movement Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay To mould me Man, did I solicit thee From
darkness to promote me? (Important Quotes Explained). With Frankenstein being
written in the early 19th century, the Romantic movement, being as popular as ever,
was clearly evident in Shelley s writings. Shelley s mom, an active feminist, died
during childbirth, leaving Mary to grow up with a radical political philosopher and
novelist, William Godwin, as her father. Victor Frankenstein
, the main character, has
a strong desire for the pursuit of knowledge, which he eventually learns is more
harmful than helpful. The creature of the story, who remains nameless, is Victor s
creation who although is seen to be evil by others, actually has a pure heart. Robert
Walton is the narrator of the book, telling Frankenstein s story, who also shares his
dangerous desire for knowledge. If Mary Shelley s 1818 novel, Frankenstein, has
survived for nearly 200 years, it may be due to the historical context of the romantic
movement, the way that the story stems from the author s own personal life, and the
characters who portray the idea that knowledge may be treacherous.
Frankenstein was written in the 19th century, a time for new creative ideas. During
this century, the Romantic movement become very prominent. This romantic period
was a time of artistic, literary, and intellectual growth (Romanticism). It was a period
of enlightenment and a time of questioning the world. Part of this movement was

television stations. The case study that will be used in this paper will be San

examples from the station to highlight the way media houses. In this case, San

between commercial viability and news considered being for the good of the
audience. It is an accepted fact that news aired on televisionscreens, on radio, and
printed media in various publications does not represent a true image of the events on

affiliated businesses, and many other organizations from structural pluralism to states

In this case, a company may sponsor channel s news segments or other relevant

Metaphor Essay Metaphor
A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object
or action to which it is not literally applicable. Metaphors are one of the most
common figures of speech found in literature. Not to be confused with similes;
metaphors differ by not using words such as like or as in the comparing process. If
you use them correctly, they can make visualizing and understanding a cake walk
for readers. Metaphors aren t just used sentence by sentence. Sometimes whole
paragraphs, stanzas, and even entire works of literature are metaphors. These are
called extended metaphors Examples of extended metaphors can be found in
Romeo and Juliet where Romeo creates a trend of comparing Juliet to the sun
saying things such as But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the
East, and Juliet is the sun! Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is
already sick and pale with grief. , The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is just an
elaborate metaphor about life and not following what everyone else does to create a
more authentic life for yourself, and in mother to son by Langston Hughes which
compares a rough staircase to life and its challenges. Metaphors can be found
everywhere using all different kinds of forms and lengths. During the puritan era it
was common for writers to use religious metaphors. Whether the metaphor only
lasted one line or engulfed the entire body of work, almost every story or poem
referenced Christianity. Some of
Manchester s United Of The Football League
Prior to the arrival of Matt Busby, Manchester s United s chapter in the history of
English football begins with the founding of Newton Heath LYR [Lancashire
Yorkshire Railway] Football Club in 1878 (Manchester United F.C., В§1878 1909).
Football was the most popular sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and
Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed popularity in Manchester as well
(Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to the abundance of
playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase
revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football Leaguein 1892, and
was rechristened Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After
moderate success through 1920 that prompted the construction of and relocation to
Old Trafford, the club entered a period of stagnation and decline, characterized by
relatively poor performance and plagued by financial difficulties. This floundering
was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an undignified,
inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness
and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to
field rugby teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished association
football s reputation, the most notable of which involved Manchester United and
Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after arranging bets on the match outcome,
ensured a win for Manchester United by
Life After St. Jerome s Indian Horse Novel Study
Life after St. Jerome s: Indian Horse Novel Study For years, First Nations children
endured the harrowing experiences of residential schools. It was not until 1996, did
the final residential school close down. It took over a hundred years of physical,
physiological, and the sexual abuse of thousands of children before residential
schools existed no more. Although they do not exist anymore, residential schools
continue to cause pain throughout First Nationscommunities. There are a variety of
novels that describe the accounts of residential school survivors, both fiction and
non fiction, each powerful in their own way. Indian Horse, a novel by Richard
Wagamese, is one of these novels. The book follows Saul Indian Horse, a boy of
Ojibwe descent, and his experiences within St. Jerome s Indian Residential School.
Saul turns to hockey as a form of protection from the fowl memories of his
experiences at St. Jerome s, using the game to ignore the sexual abuse he endured.
This denial results in Saul s pain, which comes out in the form anger on the ice,
and which ultimately results in him taking up alcohol. It is only when Saul returns
to St. Jerome s, that he is able to stop the denial, and begin his path to healing.
Richard manages to lead the reader down the same path of denial as Saul, therefore
allowing the reader to experience the same feeling of shock as felt by Saul in his
moments of realization. Saul s denial of his sexual abuse
My Perception Of Organized Crime
There are few adults in this country who have not heard of the terms Mafia , the
Mob , or Organized Crime . Hence, there are probably as many opinions of what
these terms mean as there are people who know them. Over the years, my
perceptions about organized crime came mainly through Hollywood productions or
news accounts of criminal activity. Overall, I have had a disapproving opinion of
organized crime. I would say that for the most part my perceptions prior to
enrollment in this class have been verified by the realities presented in the text, other
readings, and videos. However, there are of course significant disparities between my
knowledge and the actual facts of the groups. My definition of organized crimewas a
group of people who used violence, to commit crime and impose their will on others.
In my memory, the mafia was the largest organized crime group, it was the most
talked about organization in the media. My perception of organized crime is that they
were Italian for the most part, involved in gambling, prostitution, extortion, and drugs.
They used their money and influence to bribe politicians, police, and business leaders.
In the media the reports of the mob running the longshoreman, construction projects
and politicians was common. I remember the first time I saw the movie The
Godfather . The violence and scenes in the movie demonstrated a dedication to the
bosses that was unprecedented. As stated previously, most of my knowledge and
opinions came from
How Did The Devil s Arithmetic Change Throughout The

There were many significant changes in the movie Devil s Arithmetic, all of these
changes in the movie altered the integrity of the whole story and plot. These changes
were taking out main characters, altering scenes, taking out scenes, and adding new
scenes that were not in the book. In the movie, the movie director took out many
main characters. Two of the characters that were taken out of the movie was Aaron
and Gitl. The movie director could have made this significant change for many
reasons. The most insightful reason the movie director took Aaron and Gitl out of the
movie were because the director thought that they had minor roles so why do you
need characters that have so minor roles. Although the thing is the director did not
know that when he took these characters out he was tweaking the whole plot

History Of The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands is an archipelago of roughly 19 islands and several smaller
islets, covering 620 miles off the Ecuadorian coast in the Pacific Ocean. Both the
land and sea are protected, making the island a World Heritage site. The islands are
recognized for its unique wildlife, especially because of the lack of predators.
Visitors can interact with the friendly wildlife such as playful sea lions and gigantic
sea tortoises, up close and personal. The incredible animal speciesserved as the
inspiration for Charles Darwins Theory of Evolutionafter his visit to the islands in
1835. Each of these actively volcanic isolated isles boasts its own set of unique
species, but share similar environment, and climate. It is one of the most outstanding
marine ecosystems in the world, situated at the confluence of three ocean currents.
Prior to Spanish discovery of the islands in 1535, there is little evidence to support
any permanent settlement. Spaniard Fray Tomas de Berlanga s vessel drifted off
course on a trip to Peru and reached the islands. The English followed in 1593, and
Irish sailor Patrick Watkins is believed to be the first to establish a permanent
settlement on Floreana, when he was stranded between 1807 and 1809. In 1959, the

California Counter Culture
Popular and counter culture music, fashion, and literature produced in California
between 1940 and 2005 has reflected large patterns and transformations in California
history that continue to reverberate today in the state and in a lesser way within the

long and troubled tango with racism as well as its ultimate movement to a more
pluralistic society.

High Stakes Testing Pressure Summary
Have you ever felt the pressure of high stakes testing as a student, a teacher, an
administrator or even as a parent? The goals of federal and state governments of high
stakes testing are to improve schools. The government believes if there are negative
consequences tied to standardized test performance then teachers and students will
work harder which will increase testscores. The use of standardized testing dates back
several decades but with the passing of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) in 2002, high
stakes testing is mandated nationwide. The article, High Stakes Testing and Student
Achievement: Updated Analyses with NAEP Data, is a follow up study about the

Abstract In multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, spatial demultiplexing
at the receiver is a motivational task. Thus, several detection techniques are
investigated in existing literature. There is a tradeoff between computational
complexity and optimal performance in many detection techniques. The ordered
successive interference cancellation (OSIC) with minimum mean square error
(MMSE) is used to improve the error performance. However, maximum likelihood
(ML) detection gives optimal performance at the higher complexity level whereas
MMSE OSIC detection is less complex. Therefore, MMSE OSIC2 detection is
suggested as a solution. In this paper, spatial multiplexed (SM) MIMO systems are
considered to evaluate error performance with different detection techniques such as
MMSE OSIC, ML and MMSE OSIC2 in a composite fading i.e. Weibull gamma
(WG) fading environment. In WG distribution, Weibull and gamma distribution
represent multipath and shadowing effects respectively. It is shown by simulation
results that the MMSE OSIC2 detection technique gives the improved symbol error
performance (SER) which is closely likely ML performance

Henry VIII Essay
The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to
1547 included the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation of the English
Church. The sole reason for these actions is said to be love and seems to be related
to the King s obsession for a male heir but other factors were involved. Paramount
among these is the influence of his family in the earlier years of his life. Other
reasons such as general insecurities and competitiveness with other royal houses are
also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his
reign were motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as
other, more viable, explanations are available.
The influence of Henry VIII s family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry s grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, like her son, had an extreme impact on
the young Henry VIII. She was an influential force at court and dominated her
grandchildren s lives in discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in
Reformer and Tyrant . There was little love for Henry in his earlier years as he had
not been the heir until his brother died and so in this way his love for women and
sport, which would be reflected in his latter years, grew. Henry VIII s Family was
critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign although
they had been dead for years.
Henry VIII s love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of
the English church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to have been merely
infatuated with her as in 1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness
Henry fled terrified of dying without an heir. The fact that Anne was beheaded for
adultery (which constituted treason) three years after her initial coronation on 31st
May 1533 was also proof that love had not caused this major endeavour of Henry s
time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, could
not produce a male but only several miscarriages, three infants who were either still

Persuasive Essay On Reputable Breeders
Main Point 1: Benefits of Buying from a Breeder A. When buying from a Breeder
you are able to see their environment and how their mother looks. Although many
people think all breeders are only in it for the money it is not always the case
reputable breeders care about their animals and do not kill their animals after
breeding them and taking care of them. Reputable breeders will provide genetic
testing to show any genetic issues the animal may have later on in life. Although it
can be expensive because you are paying for all of the vetting as long as you get
your perfect pet as long as you train it properly. Transition: II. Main Point 2: There
are many reasons to adopt a animal from a shelter or rescue groups. A.The Best

Animals In The Enigma Of Animal Suffering
In The Enigma of Animal Suffering, the author implies that animals may not be so
different from human beings in regards to feeing love and pain. The author mainly
focuses on talking about farm animals since those are the type that are mainly
consumed. He uses analogies by comparing animals to some delicate situations
people actually experienced. For example, he compared cows being inseminated to
a person being sexually assaulted. These analogies are difficult to think about in a
different perspective, but it definitely makes you think. He highlights th way these
farm animals are treated before they are slaughtered and defends the fact that they
have feelings as well. Because some of us do not see them as our own or the way
our priorities are when it comes up tp the business industry, we ignore everything
else. The way we treat animals in general not just... Show more content on

Although, at times I would disagree with some of the ethical theories it includes, it
definitely strengthened my ability to think about any issue. It is easier for me to
be more considerate of others opinions regardless of what type of ethical theory
they identified themselves with. Sometimes we don t know if we are making the
right decision about something or don t know what we are supposed to follow, but
when we identify with one of the theories, it is much easier to understand. I think
that na explanation of all the theories when mentioned in class really helped me

own. Now, I feel like I actually think about issues in a deeper manner than before
and at times I have changed my view of things. The group discussions really helped
me understand more even though I did not talk much when we would have them. It
made topics a little more interesting especially when people would bring things up
that I would never think of. Basically, showed me how to see things in a different
Media Coverage On The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War introduced many new forms of technology on and off of the
battlefield. Increased weaponry helped shape the outcome of the war, but media
coverage also played a large role in representing the news and opinions of the war.
Viet Thanh Nguyen s The Sympathizer helps illustrate how the media influences and
spreads the opinions of the people during the VietnamWar. The war media, which
includes newspapers, movies, and most importantly television, caters towards its
audience. What the media publishes shapes the public opinion, and the media creates
their stance based on the profit they receive.
The media reports on material that will produce the largest viewership. War
coverage is the most profitable form of news that these news sites cover, so when
a war is being fought, they cover the war almost exclusively to gain a large
audience. CNN saved their company from going bankrupt by exclusively showing
coverage of the Iraq War in 1991; now they are a multibillion dollar business
venture. Television media such as CNN and FOX News cover positive stories and
news, but the negative news gains them the largest audience, which translates to the
largest revenue. The primary drive for these media networks is profit and market
shares rather than upholding high journalistic standards. The government knows how
popular these shows are during war and they use these shows to their advantage to
sway the public opinions and support of the war. They can t necessarily control the

Ethics Of Drones Essay
Drones or unmanned aircraft are like a hammer or gun. They are tools. They are
not inherently good or bad. How they are used becomes the ethical issue at hand.
Drones have a broad spectrum of wage; from the delivery of pizza, to weather
forecasting, to weapons platforms in armed conflict. It is the purpose of this paper
to show the use of drones in warfare is necessary and can be ethically justified using
the principles of both deontology and utilitarianism. The fact that drones are remotely
controlled, sometimes from great distances, does not remove the operators from
responsibility, no more than the bullet fired from a gun, it is still the responsibility of
the soldier who fired it. Fighting against groups who oppress their citizens through...

Deontology would say that it, is the pilot s choice to attack a known target or no to
attack a known target. Michael Bergmann advises this would be distinction
between objective and subjective moral duties he also notes this is fairy common
(Bergmann). I liken this to the choices the pilot believes they are in possession of,
versus the reality of the choices they ultimately have. Deontologicaly speaking the
pilot would only be held responsible for the good or wrongness of their actions
alone. For example, if a pilot controlling a drone was sent to back up allied troops
pinned down by enemy fire and fired two missiles with the first missile striking and
neutralizing the enemy combatants. This would be a good thing. However if that
second missile missed the target and hit a building where it is unknown if the
occupant inside are hostile, it is still a justified use of the drone to defeat an enemy
and the drone pilot would not held responsible for unforeseen collateral
The Financial Industry Of Barclays Bank
Introduction Banking success is all about sustained profitability through the
application of robust scientific investments and gap management strategies. It is
imperative for banks to keep a close watch on the interest rate cycle: if rates are
rising they have to ensure that their lending rates rise alongside or before the
borrowing rate and vice versa. The premier position that Barclays enjoyed in the
financial industry for over 3 centuries is a validation of the fact that it was built on
the strong principles of finance. However, the last couple of decades have seen an
erosion in its reputation due to the breaching of those very principles. Barclays Bank
is one of the biggest British multi national banks headquartered in London with a...

Barclays of the future, according to their chief executive Antony Jenkins, will be a
focused international bank with four core businesses, namely Personal and
Corporate, Barclaycard, Africa, and Investment Bank. Each core business will be
balanced and strive to win in its field of operation. This paper will investigate
several theoretical financial principles and their applications by Barclays. Special
emphasis will be on Investment Banking and Wealth management services of the
bank. These are the divisions in Barclays that handle markets and are involved in
the trading of stocks, bonds, commodities, forex, interest rates and market indexes.
Trading in derivatives is commonly employed by Barclays to hedge risks, but we
will see that the fund managers in the last decades exposed the bank to risks by
indulging in huge speculative investments. Let us investigate a few financial
principles now. Capital Assets Pricing Model (CAPM) CAPM is a highly
acclaimed theory of risk and return for securities in a competitive capital market.
The path breaking theory won Sharpe and Markowitz the Nobel Memorial Prize in
Economics in 1990. CAPM establishes the beta coefficient as a measure of the
systematic risk of an asset. Systematic risk is also known as market risk. This risk
cannot be eliminated nor is it controllable. Unsystematic risks include the risk that
influences a single company or a small group of companies, and it is controllable and
can be mitigated through
My Interest Towards Family Medicine
My interest towards family medicine began during my early childhood years. I
grew up in a small and developing city called Salalah, Oman where health care
resources were sparse. Back in 1990 s, immigrants from low income and middle
class families could not afford health care. My mother, a nurse, and her friend, a
primary care physician, were considered the healers of our neighborhood. Families
and neighbors, who were sick, wounded, or in need of medical advice, came to them
for help. I grew up watching them become the de facto healthcare resources of our
neighborhood. This inspired me to venture into the field of medicine.
After moving to New York, I was determined to take advantage of the opportunities I
had. While volunteering at a nursing home through church, I met several family
physicians and internists. I was impressed by their professionalism while interacting
with patients. All patients were treated with the same delicate care, despite their array
of debilitated statuses. Poor hygiene did not distract the physician, but rather it urged
them to provide medical care to the best of their ability. The patients felt this and their
immense gratitude was palpable. I realized how imperative it was for any physician to
value their character, attitude, and skill. My experiences inspired me to continue
volunteering at nursing homes and church events, where I could give a helping hand
to those in need. In turn, I developed a compassionate, comforting, and respectful
attitude.
What Is Soccer Corruption
Imagine a sports game, and the few people already known the results and events
that will happen in that game. That may sound someone has some sort of
superpower but in reality the game was already fix in a meeting with some high
officials, players and referees with huge amount of money transaction between
them. Corruption in soccer is a leading cause of biasedness in the game, and a
major step must be taken to make the game of soccer less corrupt and fair. The
Beautiful Game quoted by many supporters and followers. Soccer is the most loved

Different revelation has been made from the first trail of the local bodies
corruption on The FA, Brazilian FA and others to the head of the soccer association.
The authors have mainly argued about the effects and the work that have been done
to stop corruption from soccer. Although many committees have been formed to
investigate the situation of corruption in today s soccer there have been a very
little change to it. I believe the increasing corruption in soccer can have very bad
effect on the game which can eventually lose millions of fans and followers. The
corruption has caused very negative impact towards the next generation of players
and supporters that their favorite game has been ruined mostly by some people with
much control on it due to corruption. The main problem that have caused corruption
in my view and many of the articles and journals on corruption on soccer is the
unmanaged distributions of funds allocated only by certain number of people without
discussing with the committee. The sole power of some people like the former
president of FIFA Sepp Blatter has caused an unbalance in the account of these
bodies. The details of the distribution of funds has to be transparent and selling their
votes by taking money from someone has to be stopped in order to make this game

Elizabethan Vs. Jacobean Periods
The Elizabethan and Jacobean periods characterized the architecture of English
developments in large country houses. Antique styles of earlier times changed by the
architecture of Elizabethan bringing the beauty of Renaissance expose. Even
nowadays, there are everywhere examples of the Elizabethan architecture, places like
country houses, as a proof of the good work of builders and architects. The houses
were built to resist difficulties through the years.
At the present time, the choice of living counts on the income and the social class
with which is identified, just like at the past. This means that they were various kind
of homes. Countryside began to rectify. Small farm houses turned to great houses
with promoted gothic styles and Renaissance detail. The architectural style of
Elizabethan affected England from the late 1500 s until 1600 s. The earliest
characteristic was that churches construction stopped and the building of houses
started.
To express their wealth, the houses were built by strong statesmen, successful
merchants and the enriched nobility. As Elizabethan royalty increase, their homes
also became bigger and better, with gorgeous stone foundations with various levels
and a lot of rooms. The houses were looked and appreciated as symbols of social
class and personal status. Elizabethan visual expression of order and harmony, is the
most unique characteristic in these great dwellings, by the use of classical symmetry.
Symmetrical plans were popular. In
Eastern Europe During The Communist Regime
When most people think of eastern Europe during the communist regime, they do
not think of a professor from a small Illinois university. But that is exactly Elza
Ibroscheva s background. She was born in Burgas, Bulgaria, and is now a professor
in the mass communications department at Southern Illinois University
Edwardsville. I grew up in a very happy childhood, contrary to what most people
would believe because I also grew up during communism, she said. I had a very
carefree, wonderful experience as a young girl in Bulgaria. Although she had a
pleasant upbringing, Ibroscheva said she does remember negatives of living under
communism, such as travel restrictions. She also said the situation after the Berlin
Wall fell during her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That university has been an example of why the American model of education is the
one everybody aspires to follow.
While an undergraduate, Ibroscheva wanted to continue her education. Her professors
encouraged her to attend graduate school. Eventually, she decided to attend Southern
Illinois University Carbondale, coming to the United States in 1997.
Originally, she planned to complete her graduate studies, then return to Bulgaria to
work in the media. Her plans changed as she became more interested in her work.
I just got madly in love with the idea of research, she remembered. I love writing. I
love studying the media. I also got the opportunity to be a teaching assistant, and I
realized I was kind of enjoying that part of my graduate experience.
Again, Ibroscheva s professors encouraged her to continue her education, which she
did, earning a doctorate degree from SIU Carbondale after she finished her master s
program.
In 2003, she began working as an assistant professor at SIU Edwardsville. She began
A.B.D., which means all but dissertation. She finished her dissertation within the
required time.
Ibroscheva, who primarily teaches a digital publishing and design class and a cultural
media studies course, said she loves the environment SIU Edwardsville has.
It doesn t just feel like a workplace, she said. It feels like you can come here and you

One can also consider why there are now so many overnight mail carriers such as
United Parcel Service and Airborne Express. The second example pertains to the exit
from an industry, specifically, the airline industry in the United States. Pan Am, a
pioneer in public air transportation, is no longer in operation, while some airlines
such as TWA (Trans World Airlines) are on the verge of exiting the airlines industry.
Why, then, have many airlines that operate on international routes fallen on hard
times, while small regional airlines seem to be doing just fine? Managerial economics
provides answers to these questions.
In order to answer pertinent questions, managerial economics applies economic
theories, tools, and techniques to administrative and business decision making. The
first step in the decision making process is to collect relevant economic data
carefully and to organize the economic information contained in data collected in
such a way as to establish a clear basis for managerial decisions. The goals of the
particular business organization must then be clearly spelled out. Based on these
stated goals, suitable managerial objectives are formulated. The issue of central
concern in the decision making process is that the desired objectives be reached in
the best possible manner. The term best in the decision making context primarily
refers to achieving the goals in the most efficient
The Cold War
With the end of the Cold War , the hypothesis of war between states declined and
created opportunities for peace and security. However, new types of conflicts, new
challenges for maintaining international security and new threats to peace emerged.
The U.S. attacks on September 11, 2001, marked a before and after in international
relations, security concepts, and the emergence of new threats. Governments have
had the necessity to change and to design new strategies to address these new threats.
Furthermore, it has been necessary to modify the roles of the Armed Forces.
The paper analyzes the role of the armed forces combating the new threats in Peru.
First, it explains the new threats that Peru is facing and the role of the armed forces
combating them, its employment, and legal issues that allow its participation. After
that, this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of military participation.
Finally, it recommends measures to strengthen its participation.
The last white paper on national defense, April 2005, recognized the external and
internal threats that Peru is facing. As external threats, those generated if someone
tries to apply security doctrines incompatible with the rule of international law, threats
that could emerge from the crisis regarding scarcity of natural resources of strategic
value, terrorism, drug trafficking, and international crime. As internal threats, it
recognized terrorists and subversive groups, radical groups promoting social violence,
Evaluation Of Dekalb, Illinois Development Plan
Development plans are and should be a very complex piece of work. There should
be a long process to come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation
strategies. This paper will be a summary and evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois
development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were both strong aspects
to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb s plan considers
multiple aspects for the developmentof many aspects of the community. The plan
starts with the Desired Development direction. This was the beginning of their
update to list off five broad elements for the future of the city including
sustainability, continuous improvement, character, connectivity and cohesion. To
follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and many small,
to get a view from a wide range of people on what problems the city was facing.
Multiple organizations were in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of
Commerce and the DeKalb Sanitary District Board. There were similar ideas
thrown out by all groups that related to the character issues which include
identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city. Influences
outside of DeKalb include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help
people travel into and out of the city. The population growth is one issue that the
plan has to focus on. Much of the population growth in the ten years before this plan
was due to an increase in diverse culture. Land uses from high
Essay about Ibn Battuta
Ibn Battuta s remarks of his travels say a great deal about his own culture and
norms. Almost every place he travels to he brings up women and how they are
treated, as well as what their status is in that society. He is also very amused with
the dГ©cor of the buildings in terms of gold and silver decorations. It seems as
though he does not come from a wealthy society or his family is not on the wealthy
status level. Battuta also seems to bring up the cleanliness of each area he travels
to. Ibn Battuta s travels to Africa showed a lot about how he was brought up and
also about his culture. He describes the occupants of the town of Zayla as negro
people and when he arrives in the town of Kulwa he describes the Zanj people as jet

The Sultan soon passes away and the reign is taken over by his brother who is the
polar opposite of the former ruler. I feel as though this is hearsay and not a direct
observation since a mere traveler wouldn t have such close encounters.
While traveling to India, Battuta notes the inaccessible mountains that are
inhabited by Hindu infidels but are mostly under Muslim rule. The others seem to
be rebels who seem to be outcasts that may have been banished possibly by the
Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he observes richly dressed
followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her were the
chiefs of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of
social status or wealth. Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and
seems very intrigued by this practice. The practice involves the burning of a wife
after her husband dies. After the widow burns herself, the widow s family does
gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for fidelity. However, a widow that
does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and must live with her
own people in misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is
interested in another death practice that involves the Indians. This is the practice of
drowning themselves in the River Ganges. After they die, the body is burned and the
ashes are taken into the river.
Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point

The Images Of Women During The 18th Century Of The
Qing...
The screen painting named Women in a Palace was created in the late 17th century
of the Qing dynasty. This screen painting displays the tragic events that would be
foul Wang Zhaojun one of the four beauties of China. Since she would be delivered
to Xiongnu a barbarian chieftain by Emperor Yuan to make peace and order between
them. This painting was probably a dedication to her because of the struggle she will
lead in the future. Further more this painting displays the emotions of the painting
through the colors, the message that is trying to reveal through the scale of the screen
painting, and the effort put into every detail of the painting.
In the screen painting, Women in a Palace definitely display its emptions through the
colors of the painting. For example, the color Green is used a lot in the painting,
which I believe, means that the painter wanted to display a new life that she will
lead. I believe this because if I think about it for a while you think green is color of
new life and she is getting a new life by getting departed from the castle. Then comes
the color red, which probably means the difficulty that Wang Zhaojunwould lead in a
new area that she knows nothing about. Next we have the color brown, which
probably means comfortability. The thing is that the Emperor Yuan took this away
from Wang Zhaojun because like any other woman in China she had no other choice
but to comply with his choice. Then finally we have the color gold, which is the
meaning of power

residents will pay about $125 more in property taxes along with higher fees for

estate taxes increased slightly but still remain among the lowest in the Northern
Virginia region. In the budget, $167.9 million was allocated to the Alexandria City

Graffiti Art Or Vandalism Essay. Graffiti: A Form of Art or Vandalism Free Essay Sample on Samploon.com

  • 1. Graffiti Art Or Vandalism Essay Composing an essay on the subject of "Graffiti Art Or Vandalism" poses a unique set of challenges, as it requires navigating through the intricate web of perspectives surrounding this controversial topic. The difficulty lies in striking a delicate balance between acknowledging graffiti as a form of artistic expression and addressing the concerns related to its often unlawful nature. To begin with, one must delve into the rich history of graffiti, tracing its roots from ancient cave paintings to the modern street art movement. Analyzing the cultural significance and evolution of graffiti as an art form demands a keen understanding of the diverse motivations driving artists to utilize public spaces as their canvas. However, the complexity arises when addressing the clash between artistic expression and societal norms. Arguments supporting graffiti as a legitimate form of art highlight its ability to convey powerful messages, challenge social norms, and beautify urban landscapes. On the flip side, critics argue that graffiti, when done without permission, amounts to vandalism and raises concerns about property damage, public safety, and the overall degradation of public spaces. Navigating through these opposing viewpoints requires careful consideration of both sides, backed by thorough research and a nuanced understanding of the legal and ethical implications. Crafting an essay that presents a well-rounded perspective while maintaining a coherent and convincing argument demands a delicate balance between acknowledging the artistic merits of graffiti and addressing the legitimate concerns raised by its detractors. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Graffiti Art Or Vandalism" entails grappling with a myriad of perspectives and weaving them together into a cohesive narrative. It demands a deep dive into the history, cultural context, and ethical considerations surrounding graffiti, making it a challenging yet intellectually stimulating task. I fully support this amendment and believe that it has helped our country many times. As the book says in Chapter 6, Popular wisdom has it that second termers are therefore lame duck(pg.111) , I feel that this is a very true statement. I feel that the general populations mindset that second and third terms for presidents are usually duds did not just happen suddenly. I believe these views evolved over a longer amount of times. People began seeing presidential success fall off as the president returned to office after their first term and formed their opinions off of these personal observations. The book confirms this idea, Conventional wisdom holds that second terms are fraught with peril, a view confirmed by scandals and crises in earlier presidencies... Often times, the stress and demanding schedule of the people that hold these offices if too much for some

Financial Crisis in South Korea International strategic management| South Korea, financial crisis| Melissa MactavieJodie MackayTeboho LentoSifiso MashishiKarushka naidoo| South Korea s current account balance started to deteriorate in 1990, due to the rising inflation, appreciation of the Korean won and the recession of the world economy. In 1991 the current account recorded a deficit of $8.7 billion, which was more than four times the level of the preceding year. Due to the high rates of economic growth and the booming economy, private firms and corporations looked to finance speculative investment projects. However, firms overstretched themselves and a combination of factors caused depreciation in the exchange rate as they struggled to meet the payments. The South Korean corporate governance structure was known for its technical and ethical inefficiency well before the crisis. The existence of a small number of large business conglomerates, chaebols, is widely considered to be one of the biggest problems in South Korean society. This governance system was fertile ground for inefficiency and corruption. A study shows that only 27percent of the 570 non financial firms created shareholder value during the five years before the crises. The South Korean conglomerates were more or less completely controlled by the government and simply absorbed growing capital investment. Eventually, excess debt led to key failures and takeovers. In the midst of the Asian market downturn, South Korea s credit rating was lowered on 28 November 1997 and downgraded again on 11 December. That contributed to an additional decline in South Korean shares since stock markets were already bearish in November. The inability of the Korean government to respond early to potential

Although this disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males, have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional

Since Sykes is the one creating these scare tactics to Delia, he can also be seen as a symbol of evil, which he becomes the evil antagonist of the story. These two instances could also be seen in the religious aspect with Adam and Eve. Another symbol that was present in the story was the dark grey sky. The dark grey sky symbolically means evil, remorse, and sadness. The dark grey sky came about when the snake Sykes used to scare Delia with, bites and kills him. While Sykes was dying, he was now feeling remorse for all his evil doings that he has done to Delia, so we think because he was calling out for her after the snake had bitten him. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, spent most her life identified by her master identity as a cis white male and until a few years ago she adopted the interactional identity of a transgender female. In this paper, I will demonstrate how various forms of speech acts build, remain and /or change the master and interactional identity of Caitlyn Jenner as well as her relationships to others. To do so I will explain how Caitlyn Jenner seeks advice from her close family member Scott Disick to help her understand the variety of speech acts coming from both her private and public life: ranging from Scott who demonstrate faceredress and accept her based on her new interaction identity as a female, while also dealing with the face threats that come from those (particularly males) who only see her as her previous master identity as a male. To start, in lines 1 and 4 Caitlyn seeks to understand the perspective that guy s have on her transition, in both lines she draws out the word guy to emphasize her lack of understanding on how males think. She notes that she s struggled with it (male s perspective) even though contextually she had the master identity of a male the majority of her life, she has always struggled with the standards that come with that identity and that still remains. Therefore, she seeks the perspective of a close male in her family to provide her with that outlook. In contrast, Scott, who possess the master identity of a male and also accepts it as an interactional identity chooses to influx and draw out the word me in line 7 in his account that not every male will be comfortable with her change in identity because while he notes that he is comfortable with her change in line 24, he also draws out the word every to signify that he is inferring that male perspectives are not always homogenous and he does this by using an upward intonation of I to highlight the contrast which is prevalent through his tone change between both words. Additionally, in line 25, Caitlyn utilizes the example of Kris Humphries tweet that was an indirect face threat about her transition

  • 24. The Pursuit Of Holiness By Jeff Bridges Did you ever wonder what it truly means to be holy? Jeff Bridges, a bestselling author, wrote a book called The Pursuit of Holiness that explains just about everything you need to know about being holy and God s holiness. Bridges believes that holiness is something that Christians often have trouble including in their life on a day to day basis. He speculates that the reason we have so much trouble with applying holiness to our lives is because we struggle in identifying what we have to do in order to be holy in the eyes of God. Bridges tackles this concept and breaks down the things that you can apply and remove from your life to pursue holiness. Without a doubt, God created us with an image in mind that we would spread the Kingdom of God across all nations and impact others with our actions and personality. Bridges uses an analogy to introduce us to the idea of being dependent on God. He explains how a farmer puts in hard work and a lot of time into a garden, even though he knows that he is entirely dependent on outside forces such as rain and sunshine. He can t control these things, yet he is still trusting that they will come and make his garden flourish. Bridges also makes it known that he believes that holiness is not something that we can ever fully obtain. It is a process that takes continual effort. There are no exceptions to God s call for holiness in the lives of Christians. The reason that we are called to live a holy life is because God, Himself, is

Football was the most popular sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed popularity in Manchester as well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to the abundance of playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football Leaguein 1892, and was rechristened Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that prompted the construction of and relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of stagnation and decline, characterized by relatively poor performance and plagued by financial difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to field rugby teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished association football s reputation, the most notable of which involved Manchester United and Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after arranging bets on the match outcome, ensured a win for Manchester United by

It was not until 1996, did the final residential school close down. It took over a hundred years of physical, physiological, and the sexual abuse of thousands of children before residential schools existed no more. Although they do not exist anymore, residential schools continue to cause pain throughout First Nationscommunities. There are a variety of novels that describe the accounts of residential school survivors, both fiction and non fiction, each powerful in their own way. Indian Horse, a novel by Richard Wagamese, is one of these novels. The book follows Saul Indian Horse, a boy of Ojibwe descent, and his experiences within St. Jerome s Indian Residential School. Saul turns to hockey as a form of protection from the fowl memories of his experiences at St. Jerome s, using the game to ignore the sexual abuse he endured. This denial results in Saul s pain, which comes out in the form anger on the ice, and which ultimately results in him taking up alcohol. It is only when Saul returns to St. Jerome s, that he is able to stop the denial, and begin his path to healing. Richard manages to lead the reader down the same path of denial as Saul, therefore allowing the reader to experience the same feeling of shock as felt by Saul in his moments of realization. Hence, there are probably as many opinions of what these terms mean as there are people who know them. Over the years, my perceptions about organized crime came mainly through Hollywood productions or news accounts of criminal activity. Overall, I have had a disapproving opinion of organized crime. I would say that for the most part my perceptions prior to enrollment in this class have been verified by the realities presented in the text, other readings, and videos. However, there are of course significant disparities between my knowledge and the actual facts of the groups. My definition of organized crimewas a group of people who used violence, to commit crime and impose their will on others. In my memory, the mafia was the largest organized crime group, it was the most talked about organization in the media. My perception of organized crime is that they were Italian for the most part, involved in gambling, prostitution, extortion, and drugs. They used their money and influence to bribe politicians, police, and business leaders. In the media the reports of the mob running the longshoreman, construction projects and politicians was common. As stated previously, most of my knowledge and opinions came from

Saini Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Jaypee University of Information Technology Waknaghat, Solan, (H.P.) 173234, India E mail keerti.tiwari@mail.juit.ac.in, davinder.saini@juit.ac.in Abstract In multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, spatial demultiplexing at the receiver is a motivational task. Thus, several detection techniques are investigated in existing literature. There is a tradeoff between computational complexity and optimal performance in many detection techniques. The ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) with minimum mean square error (MMSE) is used to improve the error performance. However, maximum likelihood (ML) detection gives optimal performance at the higher complexity level whereas MMSE OSIC detection is less complex. Therefore, MMSE OSIC2 detection is suggested as a solution. In this paper, spatial multiplexed (SM) MIMO systems are considered to evaluate error performance with different detection techniques such as MMSE OSIC, ML and MMSE OSIC2 in a composite fading i.e. Weibull gamma (WG) fading environment. In WG distribution, Weibull and gamma distribution represent multipath and shadowing effects respectively. It is shown by simulation results that the MMSE OSIC2 detection technique gives the improved symbol error performance (SER) which is closely likely ML performance

  • 39. Henry VIII Essay The major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign over England from 1509 to 1547 included the Field of the Cloth of Gold and the Reformation of the English Church. The sole reason for these actions is said to be love and seems to be related to the King s obsession for a male heir but other factors were involved. Paramount among these is the influence of his family in the earlier years of his life. Other reasons such as general insecurities and competitiveness with other royal houses are also possible motives. To say that the major endeavours of Henry VIII during his reign were motivated by his obsession with a male heir is not completely accurate as other, more viable, explanations are available. She was an influential force at court and dominated her grandchildren s lives in discipline, religion and education as Wilson investigates in Reformer and Tyrant . There was little love for Henry in his earlier years as he had not been the heir until his brother died and so in this way his love for women and sport, which would be reflected in his latter years, grew. Henry VIII s Family was critical in the descisions made towardsthe major endeavours of his reign although they had been dead for years. Henry VIII s love of Anne Boleyn was supposedly the catalyst to the reformation of the English church. Henry VIII had not loved Anne but seems to have been merely infatuated with her as in 1528 when Anne was overcome with the sweating sickness Henry fled terrified of dying without an heir. The fact that Anne was beheaded for adultery (which constituted treason) three years after her initial coronation on 31st May 1533 was also proof that love had not caused this major endeavour of Henry s time. Henry was obsessed with an heir after his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, could not produce a male but only several miscarriages, three infants who were either still born or died immediately after birth, two infants who had died within a few weeks of birth and one girl . I grew up in a small and developing city called Salalah, Oman where health care resources were sparse. Back in 1990 s, immigrants from low income and middle class families could not afford health care. My mother, a nurse, and her friend, a primary care physician, were considered the healers of our neighborhood. Families and neighbors, who were sick, wounded, or in need of medical advice, came to them for help. I grew up watching them become the de facto healthcare resources of our neighborhood. This inspired me to venture into the field of medicine. After moving to New York, I was determined to take advantage of the opportunities I had. While volunteering at a nursing home through church, I met several family physicians and internists. I was impressed by their professionalism while interacting with patients. All patients were treated with the same delicate care, despite their array of debilitated statuses. Poor hygiene did not distract the physician, but rather it urged them to provide medical care to the best of their ability. The patients felt this and their immense gratitude was palpable. I realized how imperative it was for any physician to value their character, attitude, and skill. My experiences inspired me to continue volunteering at nursing homes and church events, where I could give a helping hand to those in need. In turn, I developed a compassionate, comforting, and respectful attitude.

Pan Am, a pioneer in public air transportation, is no longer in operation, while some airlines such as TWA (Trans World Airlines) are on the verge of exiting the airlines industry. Why, then, have many airlines that operate on international routes fallen on hard times, while small regional airlines seem to be doing just fine? Managerial economics provides answers to these questions. In order to answer pertinent questions, managerial economics applies economic theories, tools, and techniques to administrative and business decision making. The first step in the decision making process is to collect relevant economic data carefully and to organize the economic information contained in data collected in such a way as to establish a clear basis for managerial decisions. The goals of the particular business organization must then be clearly spelled out. Based on these stated goals, suitable managerial objectives are formulated. The issue of central concern in the decision making process is that the desired objectives be reached in the best possible manner. The term best in the decision making context primarily refers to achieving the goals in the most efficient
  • 51. The Cold War With the end of the Cold War , the hypothesis of war between states declined and created opportunities for peace and security. However, new types of conflicts, new challenges for maintaining international security and new threats to peace emerged. The U.S. attacks on September 11, 2001, marked a before and after in international relations, security concepts, and the emergence of new threats. Governments have had the necessity to change and to design new strategies to address these new threats. Furthermore, it has been necessary to modify the roles of the Armed Forces. The paper analyzes the role of the armed forces combating the new threats in Peru. First, it explains the new threats that Peru is facing and the role of the armed forces combating them, its employment, and legal issues that allow its participation. After that, this paper analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of military participation. Finally, it recommends measures to strengthen its participation. The last white paper on national defense, April 2005, recognized the external and internal threats that Peru is facing. As external threats, those generated if someone tries to apply security doctrines incompatible with the rule of international law, threats that could emerge from the crisis regarding scarcity of natural resources of strategic value, terrorism, drug trafficking, and international crime. As internal threats, it recognized terrorists and subversive groups, radical groups promoting social violence,
  • 52. Evaluation Of Dekalb, Illinois Development Plan Development plans are and should be a very complex piece of work. There should be a long process to come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation strategies. This paper will be a summary and evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were both strong aspects to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb s plan considers multiple aspects for the developmentof many aspects of the community. The plan starts with the Desired Development direction. This was the beginning of their update to list off five broad elements for the future of the city including sustainability, continuous improvement, character, connectivity and cohesion. To follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and many small, to get a view from a wide range of people on what problems the city was facing. Multiple organizations were in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the DeKalb Sanitary District Board. There were similar ideas thrown out by all groups that related to the character issues which include identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city. Influences outside of DeKalb include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help people travel into and out of the city. The population growth is one issue that the plan has to focus on. Much of the population growth in the ten years before this plan was due to an increase in diverse culture. Land uses from high
  • 53. Essay about Ibn Battuta Ibn Battuta s remarks of his travels say a great deal about his own culture and norms. Almost every place he travels to he brings up women and how they are treated, as well as what their status is in that society. He is also very amused with the dГ©cor of the buildings in terms of gold and silver decorations. It seems as though he does not come from a wealthy society or his family is not on the wealthy status level. Battuta also seems to bring up the cleanliness of each area he travels to. Ibn Battuta s travels to Africa showed a lot about how he was brought up and also about his culture. He describes the occupants of the town of Zayla as negro people and when he arrives in the town of Kulwa he describes the Zanj people as jet black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sultan soon passes away and the reign is taken over by his brother who is the polar opposite of the former ruler. I feel as though this is hearsay and not a direct observation since a mere traveler wouldn t have such close encounters. While traveling to India, Battuta notes the inaccessible mountains that are inhabited by Hindu infidels but are mostly under Muslim rule. The others seem to be rebels who seem to be outcasts that may have been banished possibly by the Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he observes richly dressed followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her were the chiefs of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of social status or wealth. Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and seems very intrigued by this practice. The practice involves the burning of a wife after her husband dies. After the widow burns herself, the widow s family does gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for fidelity. However, a widow that does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and must live with her own people in misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is interested in another death practice that involves the Indians. This is the practice of drowning themselves in the River Ganges. After they die, the body is burned and the ashes are taken into the river. Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point to explain
  • 54. The Images Of Women During The 18th Century Of The Qing... The screen painting named Women in a Palace was created in the late 17th century of the Qing dynasty. This screen painting displays the tragic events that would be foul Wang Zhaojun one of the four beauties of China. Since she would be delivered to Xiongnu a barbarian chieftain by Emperor Yuan to make peace and order between them. This painting was probably a dedication to her because of the struggle she will lead in the future. Further more this painting displays the emotions of the painting through the colors, the message that is trying to reveal through the scale of the screen painting, and the effort put into every detail of the painting. In the screen painting, Women in a Palace definitely display its emptions through the colors of the painting. For example, the color Green is used a lot in the painting, which I believe, means that the painter wanted to display a new life that she will lead. I believe this because if I think about it for a while you think green is color of new life and she is getting a new life by getting departed from the castle. Then comes the color red, which probably means the difficulty that Wang Zhaojunwould lead in a new area that she knows nothing about. Next we have the color brown, which probably means comfortability. The thing is that the Emperor Yuan took this away from Wang Zhaojun because like any other woman in China she had no other choice but to comply with his choice. Then finally we have the color gold, which is the meaning of power
