Elk Cloner
The Elk Cloner Virus
As weird as the name could be, however, it all started by just a way to prank friends and made it to be
the first Boot Sector Virus ever to be created and spread around quickly.
In 1982, Rick Skrenta , A computer nerd thought of a way to prank his school cliques through a game ,
Apple ii games , without even touching their computers. He defined it as a program that can infect
other programs by modifying them to include a possibly evolved copy of itself. (Lemos, 2003)
How can that be done? Basically by altering their flobby disk , it replicate itself and also it can be
saved on the computer memory so it destroys any flobby disk enter the computer . The idea of it to

Causes Of Cataract Blindness
Investigate the causes and treatment of cataract blindness.
What is cataract blindness?
This is a type of blindness that is caused by a cataract, which is a clouding in the eye s normally clear
lens. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and can affect either or both eyes. The
normally clear or black pupil becomes clouded with a grey, milky colour and causes vision to become
proportionally reduced. It has a great impact on a human s independence because a cataract only
allows light and dark to be distinguished. Who suffers from cataracts?
Cataracts can occur in humans as well as dogs and are commonly associated with ageing, although
some children are born with cataracts called congenital cataracts. Cataracts are very common ... Show

It was Fred Hollows dream to create intraocular lenses and provide them to the world at a low cost.
The Foundation set up IOL factories in Eritrea and Nepal as part of their early work in attempt to
lower the cost of cataract surgery so that it is more affordable for people in developing countries. The
factories have produced over 4 million lenses since they ve opened, and the low cost of production
means that cataract surgery can cost as little as $25 in some countries. The Fred Hollows Foundation

Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of the
ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two matters of
honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In other plays,
Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the Athenian respect
for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury Polyneices both
epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. Yet although Dionysus personifies these two motifs, his
clashes with the rest of Athenian tradition seem to make him its true adversary. ... Show more content

The Chorus first alludes to the traditional place of Athenian women with the statement, driven from
shuttle and loom, / possessed by Dionysus! (118 199), and Pentheus later employs the same motif
when threatening, I shall have them sold as slaves or put to work / at my looms (513 514). Such a
deliberate analogy amidst the clash of divine and earthly power seems to highlight the woman s
domesticated place and to call attention to her role as a pawn in the struggle between the king and the
god. Though women were almost excluded from Athenian public life and women s presence in male
company [was] surrounded by many taboos in Athenian culture, the frenzied Bacchae serve a
necessary and conspicuous function in this drama.
Women in The Bacchae not only leave their traditional place within the home but are thrust into a
promiscuous position that contrasts sharply with the usual characterization, [of] submissiveness and
modesty. The proper conduct of a Greek woman can be seen in another of Euripides dramas, Iphigenia
at Aulis, where the blameless wife is portrayed as chaste with regard to sexual matters. Certainly the
indulgences of the woodland orgies break from such secluded and silent positions of respectable
Athenian women, a challenge to traditional

George Orwell And 1984 Comparison
George Orwell s 1984 is about a party member of Oceania named Winston Smith. Oceania is a
dystopian society that controls the people through constant surveillance and doublethink, which is the
acceptance of two contradictory beliefs used to change a person s memory more easily. Throughout
the novel, Winston talks about his hatred towards Big Brother, the leader of Oceania, and how he
wants to put a stop to the party. One way he does that is he falls in love with a young woman named
Julia and they have relations with each other to rebel against the party. It is clear that when George
Orwell wrote 1984, he was greatly influenced by Yevgeny Zamyatin s We. Because of this, people
tend to compare the two novels with each other. When comparing D 503 ... Show more content on

In We, D 503 thinks his government is perfect and thinks that what OneState stands for is what is best
for the people. D 503 wants everything to be perfect and for everything to be perfect there has to be
complete control over everyone and everything. He likes that there is complete control over the people
of OneState because it makes his world mathematically perfect. In contrast to D 503, Winston
disagrees with everything that Oceania stands for. He does not agree with how the Party controls the
people through doublethink and constant surveillance. When writing in his journal one day, His pen
had slid voluptuously over the smooth paper, printing in large neat capitals DOWN WITH BIG
BROTHER (Orwell 18). Winston hates big brother and wants nothing to do with him or the party. He
is committing a thought crime by just writing his true feelings down. He hates the Party so much that
he is willing to risk his life by writing down his hatred towards the Party and big brother. To
summarize this difference, D 503 loves his government and wants the people of OneState to be
controlled, while Winston hates his government and wants to put a stop to the party. Because of this
difference, Orwell departs from Zamyatin s protagonist by having his protagonist actually show his
disapproval of the party instead of loving his government like D 503

Navy Uniforms Case Study
Financial Burden to Maintain Uniforms
Navy uniforms are some of the most striking and recognizable symbols of honor and tradition around
the world. Whether in dress blues, dress whites or khakis, the men and women who dawn the Navy
uniform wear it with pride and distinction. Senior Enlisted Leaders must be aware of available
organizational clothing and maximize Sailor usage to minimize the financial burden on members. This
paper will cover the background of the Navy s uniform requirements and the financial burden required
to maintain them, offer discussion on the impact it has on personnel and recommendations for
mitigating these impacts.
Problem
The U.S. Navy provides an initial issue of uniforms to all members upon accession into the service,
however the work schedule and working environment reduces wear life. The problem is Sailors are
forced to pay the high cost of maintaining and replacing uniforms required for daily use. The U.S.
Navy provides 3 sets of Navy Working Uniforms (NWU) and 2 sets of Navy Service Uniforms (NSU)
(NAVPERS 15665I). This allotment does not meet the daily use requirements nor are they durable
enough to endure the rigors of the work environment and required laundering. The next topic will
focus on a discussion about maintenance of the working uniforms attributing to the financial burden
our Service Members and their families incur.
Discussion
Navy manpower requirements are based on mission requirements and are set forth in OPNAVINST

Factories In The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution has been described as a mixed blessing is a statement in which many people
can agree. The painstaking work, cruel working conditions, and extremely long hours for all
employees shows the struggles people went through for the advancement of their country. Workers
wanted to see technology and their country progress so they did the work necessary. The end result
was something the world had never seen, so many new technological advancements, and inventions
made so many tasks more efficient, and suddenly work became easier all across the globe. One of the
most prominent new developments in the Industrial Revolution was factories, and factory workers.
Factories were a result of new farming equipment being invented. From 1733 1787 five new
inventions were made to help modernize the cotton industry. These new machines were, the Flying
Shuttle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The working conditions were dangerous, and unhealthy. Inside the factories is has poor lighting which
made doing the actual work much more difficult. Machines themselves caused injury as well. The
various moving parts of machinery caused cuts, and the most extreme cases, amputations. Women had
it much worse due to their long hair, which could get stuck in machinery too. Children were often
given the task on cleaning under the machines, many would fall asleep and would become severely
wounded. And because there were no government programs to help in case of injury, these incidents
kept occuring. However laws did pass to eliminate these unlawful working conditions. The Factory
Act of 1833 made it illegal to hire children under 9 years old, for children between ages 9 to 12 to
work more than 8 hours, and children 13 to 17 to work more than 12 hours. Then the Ten Hours Act of

Compare And Contrast A Rose For Emily And The Open Boat
Compare and Contrast In this paper, I will be comparing and contrasting three works that we have
studied this semester. I will be writing about A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, The Hairy Ape by
Eugene O Neill, and The Open Boat by Stephen Crane. All of these authors stories use setting to
encompass the idea of freedom. Each author has a different perspective on liberty and they all express
it differently through their writing. In each story the main character is trapped, either literally or
metaphorically. They can all achieve freedom from their situations, but there are obstacles that stop
them from reaching their goal. In A Rose for Emily, the main character is trapped in her house. In The
Hairy Ape, the main character is stuck in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miss Emily can leave the house anytime and achieve freedom, but she knows that it would be far too
hard to leave the place she grew up. The men in the lifeboat can try to head for shore at any time but
there are many obstacles that stand in their way. Miss Emily is not in a life or death situation like these
men, but she does have to deal with obstacles in the way of her freedom as well. If she leaves the
house she would have nowhere to go; all of the people in the town would look down on her and shun
her because she is not wealthy anymore. She could move away, but she would not be able to survive
own her own; she has always had her dad and the servant to do everything for her. In The Open Boat,
the men are phased with a lose lose situation, unlike Miss Emily. She could either stay in the house
until she dies, which she did, or take a chance and achieve freedom. The men, on the other hand, are in
a tight spot, because either way they could die. They could wait on the lifeboat and die a slow painful
death or they could try to gain their freedom and die in the process. They decide to risk their lives for a
possibility of surviving and achieving their

Creative Writing Is Not A Stranger
Creative writing is not a stranger to the classroom. It s more like a third cousin you see at family
reunions. Unfortunately, creative writing is not seen as a beneficial skill students need to learn.
Instead, it is used for elective classes or to fulfill a small section of a language arts standard. Creative
writing provides more than entertainment, it provides skills, which [students] have acquired in their
pursuit of a fictional character, will serve them equally well in their pursuit of subjects for expository,
persuasive, and analytic essays (Anderson, 47). This genre of writing requires creativity, curiosity, and
technical skills. Creative writing is detrimental to the progression of students writing ability. Teaching
creative writing is not as simple as letting students explore their imaginations, Peterson (2014) and
Crumey (2012) both suggest prior knowledge plays a significant role in the creative writing process. It
has been widely said a writer should, write what they know. This sentiment is often shared as a nugget
of wisdom to aspiring writers or those struggling from writer s block. Peterson (2014) says, young
writers should be passionate about what [they] do. Passion drives the best storytelling (500). Crumey s
(2012) argument is that to become a better writer, you need to be well read and you need to write. He
emphasizes this with a quote by Stephen King: You ve got to read a lot and write a lot (114). Crumey
(2012) explains the difference between

Odyssey And Plautus Research Paper
Years ago, I took a world literature class that exposed me to much more that world literature. It
exposed me to history, drama, and even anthropology. I had never read any Roman writers, and had
only minimal exposure to Greeks. We read the Iliad, Odyssey, and Greek tragedian Euripides and
Sophocles and then Horace and Plautus. While this was years ago, our recent readings for class were
totally fresh and new and simultaneously familiar!
I am struck again by the fact that there are no new or original ideas in our modern society. Reading,
Twin Menaechmi seemed too familiar. I am not as well read as many of you, so it took me a moment
to make the connection to Shakespeare s Comedy of Errors . Which in turn reminded me of an awful

Romans were known as conquerors. Hence the Roman Empire! As a result of the conquering nature of
the Romans, they also took the parts of civilizations they conquered. The best of Greek theatre and
Aristotle s Poetics became property of the Romans. Plautus often adapted works of the Greeks, which
was not plagiarism but was a commendable addition to Roman culture.
Also, similarly, the Romans celebration of theatre was part of a festival celebrated the gods. Romans
celebrated with games, theatre and ritual to honor Jupiter, Apollo, Mother Goddess, and of course
Bacchus. The festivals for Bacchus (Roman Dionysus) was the epitome of Roman decadence and the
Roman orgy. Romans took theatre to a new level of spectacle, gore, and lewdness.
This made me think if we continue to progress with each generation or as cultures become integrated
what becomes the next level of entertainment? What do we look to for inspiration? The Romans
looked to the Greeks. In turn making theatre more appealing to Roman citizens. Theatres became
larger, carnage was expected, celebrations became drunken orgies, and comedies were more farcical.
We look to all those who have come before and try to, like Plautus, put our own stamp on the

Psychological Effects Of Deindividuation
The need to belong is an innate need among humanity. Whether it means joining a group of people
with the same interests, religious beliefs, or ethnicity, people tend to cling to those who relatively have
the same characteristics. This can simply be observed in a high school cafeteria, most notably
separating groups by athletic or academic interests, within these groups, each person is taking action
to be more liked by each of its members. Although a majority of groups are not extremists, the ones
that are, thrive because of social influence and the need to belong. In comparison to the social
psychological perspective of the Nazi regime, members of the Islamic State (IS) are susceptible to
group polarization due to excessive use of social media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Nazi regime did not have computers, the social influence of propaganda was still
successful. Propaganda is used as a tool to manipulate and provoke behaviors to further the intentions
of the group. When people already have pre existing beliefs, they are enhanced by propaganda, which
makes it a useful, but dangerous tool when the intentions of the group are to harm those who have
different beliefs. Similar to the Nazis, the intentions of ISIS is to protect the land and, according to the
Quran, only Muslims may live in the caliphate while obeying and promoting their government efforts.
Many online ISIS supporters will never actually come into contact with ISIS soldiers, but the power of
their social media support system is still strong enough to worry the U.S. government that they may

African Americans During Reconstruction Essay
African American Empowerment During Reconstruction (1863 1877) In the years 1863 1877, blacks
were able to make their first successful efforts in terms of empowerment, creating the foundation for
future African American movements. During reconstruction, African Americans, through collaboration
and politics, began to work at equal rights. By empowering themselves politically, building
communities and fighting against the lynching efforts of the KKK and other anti black terrorist
groups, African Americans began a movement to combat racism in the United States. During
reconstruction from 1863 1977, African Americans were able to lower the political barrier American
society had on them, previously being restricted from voting. Edmund J. Davis was elected as
governor of Texas in 1869; two black senators were also elected, one being a former slave. The new

Social Media Anxiety
The Relationship of Social Media and Social Anxiety The ever growing world of social media is a
network of sites and websites designs to have individuals share pictures and ideas will all their friends
instantly. The popularity of these sites bursted right out of the gates and are used by billions of people
every day. While such sites may appear harmless, these interactive platforms are causing an immense
rise in social anxiety. These social networks are actually damaging the mental health of many users.
Over fifteen million people in the United States are diagnosed with social anxiety, and in today s
world the number of causes linked to social media is on the rise. Most of these cases are in individuals
starting at thirteen, but the ages rage significantly. According to The American Association of
Depression and Anxiety social anxiety can be defined as, The extreme fear of being scrutinized and
judged by others in social or performance situations. This type of anxiety is closely linked with feeling
of loneliness; and this loneliness only intensifies the feelings of anxiety and paranoia. Social paranoia
stems from the fear rejection. These individuals are terrified they will humiliate or embarrass
themselves, so they simply withdraw. This specificity type of anxiety interferes significantly with
daily routines, occupational performance, or social life, making it difficult to complete school,

Argumentative Essay On Aged Coffee
What is Aged coffee?
Recently, there has been an increase in aging of coffee. According to the saying, Aged wine looks
great, Aged whiskey taste good so is aged coffee. The saying is not all about aged coffee or aged
whiskey. Also, aged coffee is not that exceptional, and it does not deserve the credit. Here is the
history, hype, and truth about aged coffee.
The History of Aged Coffee
Coffee was introduced to Europe in the mid 1500 s, it was referred to as aged coffee. During that
period, Mocha which is now Yemen was the primary supplier of coffee in Europe. Importing coffee
from Yemen to Europe takes a long journey through the sea around the southern region of Africa. This

Although it is true for some aged coffees, others are merely outdated, old coffees that are rebranded as
a specialty product.
Also, most people believed that coffee age well, but this is highly controversial. Some people even
claim that the older a coffee gets, the better it tastes good, this statement is also controversial.
The Belief behind Aged Coffee
It is only some particular types of coffee that age well, and they need to be aged under some specified
conditions or else they will lose their oils and affect the coffee taste and flavor. This can make the
coffee taste sour or bitter.
According to some specialists, they claimed that the coffee does not get better with the long aging
process because the coffee loses more flavor as it ages.
Which Coffee Type Age Properly?
In a nutshell, only a few types of unroasted coffee beans age suitably. However, the best beans for
aging must have a low acid content, though this might not be the primary reason.
The best aging process may include low acid coffees from Indonesia and India, notably the semi dry
processed Sulawesi and Sumatra coffees, that may develop to a spicy flavor as they age with time.
Also, the acidic wet processed Latin American coffees also get richer in taste as they

Welfare Of The United States
Welfare is a subject of debate in the United States because everyone has a different point of view
when it comes to the Social Security Act. On one side the rich may feel that the government takes
from the rich, and gives to the poor. The poor on the other hand may believe that they are being
forgotten and not helped enough by the government. Are the government financial assistance
programs really working and helping people climb out of poverty or are they creating lazy people who
depend on government assistance too much? Poverty has been an issue of great debate in America for
centuries. Before the Social Security Act was passed, the United States government did not have a
stable plan to help/aid the poor. It was the local governments responsibility to care for their
disadvantaged. Many Americans believe only the poor receive welfare aid or benefits from the
government, they are misguided, because even though welfare is a program who aids the poor it also
helps most Americas in one way or another. Also, welfare helps big name corporations by giving them
government funding for research he also gives them loans, grants, and tax breaks. In 2015 it was the
eightieth year anniversary since President Theodore Roosevelt passed The Social Security Act law,
and the problem has gotten worse not better. The purpose for this act was to help the unemployed or
underemployed during the great depression. However, it extended to the poor through a variety of
programs. In Addition, the

Sympathy Analysis Paper For Confessions Of A Mask
Sympathy Analysis Paper for Confessions of a Mask Yukio Mishima, a well known Japanese writer,
expressed his sexual orientation in a book called Confessions of a Mask. In that book, he spends his
entire childhood with only girls, and this explains why his inside world was so strange compared to
other children. A boy lives and plays only with girls and women, will he confused about his sexual
preference? The answer is definitely sure. Meanwhile, his poor health situation might also have some
relationships to his mania in describing death in this book. He might think living in a poor bad health
situation is worse than being a dead corpse. His eager for men and death are the two key components
of his five year old inside world. Homosexual was against the tradition in 1950s when the author
published this book. By using a five year old mask to create many fantasy stories, Mishima implicated
his sexual orientation. His mania in describing death was also kind of his way to against the old
tradition which he might think old tradition was likely to be the illness he had when he was young.
The first scenario makes readers doubt about Mishima s sexual orientation is his gender specific words
on a night soil man. It was a young man who was coming down toward us, with handsome, ruddy
cheeks and shining eyes, wearing a dirty roll of cloth around his head for a sweatband (8). This part of
description is about a strange man s appearance, and what does this brings to the readers? The

Runs Girl Essay
Redurm in the Beautiful Sky
How far would you go to save a member of your family s life? Would you be willing to forget your
beliefs, to risk everything to save a loved one? These were some of the questions that I was thinking
during the short story Runs Girl by Chinelo Okparanta. The story of a young girl who becomes a runs
girl, which is a Nigerian escort, to earn money to pay for her mother s medical treatment. I found the
story to be interesting, which I believe to be the most challenging about short stories typically. Making
the reader emotionally involved and invested in a story and characters in only a small number of
pages. Symbolism and foreshadowing was a major literary tool in tell of this story. The theme of
compassion is a major aspect of the story that influence Ada and her mother s actions. The mother was
once a fun loving, and even described as gregarious lively sprit. Until her husband past away. She then
flipped like a switch, and became more reserved. The relationship between her and her daughter Ada
changed too. It becomes more cold and distant. No matter how I said it, it would have felt contrived,
because we no longer said such tender things. (pg. 70) Ada, thinks this on ... Show more content on

The irony of her mother s inability to accept the money or forgive Ada, almost made what Ada did
seem futile. Which added to her own personal guilt that all that she did to save her mother and
hopefully bring them closer, ended up tearing them apart. Ada, demonstrates a strong love for her
mother, willing to do anything to save her life. Although her mother rejects the offer, and her daughter
s money, then dies. Her mother final rejection of Ada. After the death of her husband, her personality
disappeared becoming more closed off from Ada and the world. Refusing to forgive Ada, was the
mother losing all compassion, rejecting humanity and accepting

1. Abstract
We are all aware of the present world crisis and the recession period in which United Kingdom is
progressing. Any individual may be inquisitive about what the government of UK is doing in this case
and how the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to maintain the economic stability and growth the government uses two common strategic
approaches towards management of the economy which are:
1: Fiscal policy: concentrating on stimulating the economy through changes in the government income
and expenditure.
2: Monetary Policy, which influences the circular flow of income by changes in the supply of money
and interest rates (Palmer and Hartley, 2006).
4. Methodology
The methodology used to discuss and analyze the given topic would be Case study, which will act as a
primary source of data. Yin (2003) recommended the use of case study protocol as part of a carefully
designed research project. He also added that case studies can be either single or multiple case
designs. Single cases are used to confirm or challenge a theory, or to represent a unique or extreme
case. Uma Sekaran (2003) supports the justification for this methodology according to whom, case
studies involve in depth and background analyses of relatively similar situations within one
environment and compare that of other. She also commented that case studies provide more of
qualitative data rather than quantitative data.
As the topic suggested, the environmental subject of the case study would be UK. It may be noted that
UK was one of the few member nations which was invited to the G 20 meet held on 14 15 of
November 2008. And since the G 20 is a forum that brings together important industrial

Wallace Stevens The Evolution Of A Wolf
In a pack of wolves, there will always be one alpha wolf. This would be the so called leader of the
pack. The leader of the pack has the most influence. Society works in a similar way. In America we
elect the president that has the most influence in the country. As in the pack of wolves, leaders tend to
have a special something which makes people gravitate towards them. Wallace Stevens mentions the
same leader: I placed a jar in Tennessee/and round it was around that hill. (Stevens 1 2). A jar is not a
star figure which everyone would gravitate to. Even so it is a simple plain object. However Stevens
does say that He places the jar. This could imply that someone else placed the jar on top of the Hill.
This person probably put a jar in the

Sigma Iota Delta Community Analysis
Use of the term discourse community testifies to the increasingly common assumption that discourse
operates within conventions defined by communities, be they academic, discipline, or social group
(217). Within a discourse community, the group works together to achieve a common goal. The
brotherhood of Sigma Iota Delta is a unit that functions with one mind and body to achieve one
common goal. Sigma Iota Delta is a community which is well known across the campus of Lipscomb

community; however, this terrible loss presented the opportunity to show just how much unity and a
love for Christ that the brotherhood of Sigma Iota Delta has. On Saturday, February 13th, was able to

Additionally, this article is from a commercial publication, and though it is reliable and intended for
an educated audience, it may include some dramatization and unnecessary information to make it
more appealing for readers. Word Count: 248 Extract B2 This biography, Coco Chanel: An Intimate
Life, is a secondary source text written by Lisa Chaney. Published in New York in 2011, this work
aims to examine Coco Chanel s unconventional journey from poverty to glamour, along which she
helped to redefine the idea of the modern European woman. This text is intended for an audience of
educated individuals with an interest in Coco Chanel and her legacy. Throughout this biography,
Chaney references private letters, personal records, and interviews with Chanel s friends and family to
explore the origins of Chanel s revolutionary ideas that influenced the European feminist movement.
This source is valuable because it provides an in depth examination of Coco Chanel s life through
analysis of new primary source evidence. Additionally, because Chaney is reflecting on Chanel s life
and influence in hindsight, she is able to link Chanel s work with the progression of European women
s rights throughout the twentieth century, establishing cause and effect relationships. However, this
source is limited because Chaney does not take an objective perspective, and, instead, aims to prove
her theory that Chanel was extremely

Impressionism And Contribution To Edouard Manet
Edouard Manet
Numerous art historians believe that the birth of modern art can be traced back to Edouard Manet.
Countless artists of note since Manet s time have been influenced by the legacy he left behind. Manet
completely deviated from the established artistic traditions, and invented a entirely new type of
painting. He was thought to be the frontrunner of the avant garde.
He introduced two new features to painting that changed art forever; the adaptation of the image into a
personal individual vision, which was completely at odds with existing art practices and the
recognition of the fundamental pretense of painting. Manet forged the between Realism and
Impressionism, which in turn encouraged many artists, in particular, the Impressionists ... Show more

Manet felt that modern art should concern itself with everyday life. Modern artists could do this by
moving through the city, observing life as it occurs.
Manet moved to a new studio in 1861 in the district of Batignolles near an area known as Petit
Pologne. Petit Pologne was home to the underprivileged who were being ejected by the redevelopment
taking place in Paris under Hausmann.
Manet was already conscious of Diderot s ideas about realistic subject matter in art and of Couture s
enlightened subjects of workers, laundresses and trains.
Baudelaire s philosophy, from revolting against tradition to the unearthing of modern life, craving
something new, is the location for the painter of modern life, the streets of Paris in all their
magnificence. The artist observes the world all the while staying hidden,a voyeur. His backdrop of
choice is the city crowds. We can easily get from Baudelaire s philosophies about modern art to Manet
as a man and a painter. He put on canvas what Baudelaire put in words.
Manet saw the role of a painter as more than just a creator of images. During his time in Couture s
studio he aquired skills in stdio art but also in portraying

Ethical Dilemm Conflict Of Interest
Ethical Dilemma I Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest exists when an employee s duty to give his or her individual business loyalty to
the Company may be prejudiced by actual or potential personal benefit arising from another source.
While not presuming to restrict the right of individuals to passively invest or participate in other
business ventures, the Company is concerned where those interests might lead to conflicting interests
on the part of the individual. For example, a conflict of interest may arise when a director takes
actions or has interests that may make it difficult to perform his/her work for the Company objectively
and effectively. These conflicts of interest arise when a director, or member of the director s family,
receives improper personal benefits because of the director s position with the Company. These
benefits may include Gifts, Entertainment and Gratuities.
Based on the procedures mentioned in our text book, our moral choices should take into account our
specific duties, any essential ideals that our actions would support or weaken, and, finally, the effects
or consequences of the different options open to us. In taking into consideration the last part of the
above statement, remember that even loyal non consequentialists recognize that the likely results of
our actions are relevant to their moral assessment and that we have some duty to promote human well
being (Shaw 402).

The Legacy Of Alexander The Great
Alexander the Great Prior to approximately 350 B.C., Greece was a fragmented country with
individual tribes separated from each other due to the mountainous terrain and geographical obstacles.
Not only were they isolated physically, each individual polis remained focused on its own needs and
interests.(Hemingway) Philip II, a Macedonian king, wished that all of Greece could act as one and be
united under the same rule. In the Battle of Chaeronea, the son of Philip II, Alexander, claimed victory
for his father. During this key battle, Alexander demonstrated a remarkable act of bravery when he led
the cavalry. After conquering the rest of Greece, and attempting to further his territory into Persia,
Alexander s father was murdered. When Alexander took over his father s reign, unbeknownst to the
world at that time, he would change the course of history. Alexander was the greatest leader the
ancient world had ever produced because of his upbringing, the vast areas he conquered, and the way
he implemented the spread of Greek culture and traditions. Alexander the Great became the most
accomplished leader of his time due in part to his childhood and upbringing. Training and instruction
were a major role of Alexander s daily life in helping develop him into the great leader and warrior
that he was. Aristotle, a philosopher known for his wisdom, became Alexander s tutor and mentor in
various disciplines. From him, Alexander learned literature, philosophy, and mathematics.

The Red Umbrella
In addition to stereotyping other cultures, low context and high context cultures was also a topic
addressed in the book and in class. As it is represented in The Joy Luck Club, The Red Umbrella also
shows a difference or clash between low context and high context cultures. There can be difficulties
when one from a high context culture begins to live in a low context culture setting. These difficulties
are addressed in The Red Umbrella and The Joy Luck Club. The first example of a transition from a
high context to a low context culture is addressed in The Red Umbrella. Lucia s mother never allowed
Lucia to cut her hair short, and she respected this rule. In the book she provides this example when her
adoptive mother, Mrs. Baxter, offered to cut her hair. Lucia states She ... Show more content on

Then, coming after, Lucia had just gotten off the phone with her mother, who was informing her not to
grow up too fast, meaning, not to wear her skirts too short, no makeup, and no highheels. Lucia could
not take this prevention of growing up anymore. Addressing Mrs. Baxter, Lucia declared I want you to
cut my hair...short. Really short (Gonzalez 193). The two quotes presented are ideal examples of an
individual, from a high context culture, being raised by one of a low context culture. Mrs. Baxter,
unlike Lucia s mother, cut Lucia s hair for her instead of denying her wishes. A second example of
transitioning from a high context culture to a low context culture includes the specific bonds between
a mother and her daughter. The reading, titled High context Cultures and Low Context Cultures,
addressed in class, explains the distinct differences between the two cultures. When presenting
information about high context cultures, the reading informs The bonds among people are very strong
in a high context culture ( Unknown 1). The close bond among individuals can be lossed due to the
different beliefs between one born in a low context culture and one born in a high context

Summary Of A Rose For Emily By Emily Grierson
Emily Grierson died at the mere age of 74, still having her whole life ahead of her. She had been
forced to live a lonely life, which later led to her becoming oppressed. Miss Emily was written into a
lonely woman by William Faulkner in his gothic story a Rose for Emily . Faulkner s gothic literature
describes the many different ways Miss Emily showed her oppression. In his story, Emily lived alone
in a house that was lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay .She wouldn t speak to anyone about
anything and would often isolate herself from the eyes of others by remaining in her house for long
periods of time.
Miss Emily Grierson seemed like a calm and independent woman that the whole neighborhood knew
about. People would often find themselves wishing for her to find a man, and when she did they
would wish for her to marry him. However, before she had found a man, she had her father, who
would strictly forbid her from =having any relationship with any man. Miss Emily respected her father
s wishes, obeyed his every rule, and even lived with him until she reached the age of thirty and still
found herself single. Her father s death affected Miss Emily greatly. She had at first denied her father s
death and left his corpse sitting in her dining room for three days before she finally broke down. The
detail that Faulkner wrote, about her denying her father s death, signalled that she was suffering from
oppression. Miss Emily Grierson was slowly starting to decay.

Alternative Energy Production And Its Effects On Fossil Fuels
There has been a growing pressure to develop alternative energy production paths to reduce the
dependency on fossil fuels, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions to prevent global
warming. Energy from the waste conversion is considered as alternative mean to create renewable
energy. Besides its importance in power generation, char as one of the pyrolysis product is considered
as a potential source that can be valorised alongside oil and gas (or syngas).
Pyrolysis is a thermochemical conversion processes that need an external source of heating to yield
gaseous and oily products in the total absence of oxygen, whose characteristics depend on feedstock
composition, temperature, reactor configuration and gasifying agent, and another key process (1,2).
This technology is considered as an attractive alternative to incineration for dealing with municipal
waste disposal due to its lower amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur oxides (SOx) produced
(3). Pyrolysis conditions and parameters are optimised to achieve the optimal output. However, the
thermal cracking process might lead to generating the extent of pyrolysis which is considered less
valuable.
One of the outputs, char, is a carbon rich matrix that contains almost all the inorganic compounds
present in the raw wastes and a significant amount of the condensed by products formed during the
pyrolysis process dispersed throughout a porous structure. In most cases, MSW pyrolytic char does
not have sufficient quality to

  • 2. Elk Cloner The Elk Cloner Virus As weird as the name could be, however, it all started by just a way to prank friends and made it to be the first Boot Sector Virus ever to be created and spread around quickly. In 1982, Rick Skrenta , A computer nerd thought of a way to prank his school cliques through a game , Apple ii games , without even touching their computers. He defined it as a program that can infect other programs by modifying them to include a possibly evolved copy of itself. (Lemos, 2003) How can that be done? Basically by altering their flobby disk , it replicate itself and also it can be saved on the computer memory so it destroys any flobby disk enter the computer . • 3. Causes Of Cataract Blindness Investigate the causes and treatment of cataract blindness. What is cataract blindness? This is a type of blindness that is caused by a cataract, which is a clouding in the eye s normally clear lens. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and can affect either or both eyes. The normally clear or black pupil becomes clouded with a grey, milky colour and causes vision to become proportionally reduced. It has a great impact on a human s independence because a cataract only allows light and dark to be distinguished. Who suffers from cataracts? Cataracts can occur in humans as well as dogs and are commonly associated with ageing, although some children are born with cataracts called congenital cataracts. Cataracts are very common ... The Foundation set up IOL factories in Eritrea and Nepal as part of their early work in attempt to lower the cost of cataract surgery so that it is more affordable for people in developing countries. The factories have produced over 4 million lenses since they ve opened, and the low cost of production means that cataract surgery can cost as little as $25 in some countries. • 4. Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of the ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two matters of honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In other plays, Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the Athenian respect for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury Polyneices both epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. Yet although Dionysus personifies these two motifs, his clashes with the rest of Athenian tradition seem to make him its true adversary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chorus first alludes to the traditional place of Athenian women with the statement, driven from shuttle and loom, / possessed by Dionysus! (118 199), and Pentheus later employs the same motif when threatening, I shall have them sold as slaves or put to work / at my looms (513 514). Such a deliberate analogy amidst the clash of divine and earthly power seems to highlight the woman s domesticated place and to call attention to her role as a pawn in the struggle between the king and the god. Though women were almost excluded from Athenian public life and women s presence in male company [was] surrounded by many taboos in Athenian culture, the frenzied Bacchae serve a necessary and conspicuous function in this drama. Women in The Bacchae not only leave their traditional place within the home but are thrust into a promiscuous position that contrasts sharply with the usual characterization, [of] submissiveness and modesty. The proper conduct of a Greek woman can be seen in another of Euripides dramas, Iphigenia at Aulis, where the blameless wife is portrayed as chaste with regard to sexual matters. Certainly the indulgences of the woodland orgies break from such secluded and silent positions of respectable Athenian women, a challenge to traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. George Orwell And 1984 Comparison George Orwell s 1984 is about a party member of Oceania named Winston Smith. Oceania is a dystopian society that controls the people through constant surveillance and doublethink, which is the acceptance of two contradictory beliefs used to change a person s memory more easily. Throughout the novel, Winston talks about his hatred towards Big Brother, the leader of Oceania, and how he wants to put a stop to the party. One way he does that is he falls in love with a young woman named Julia and they have relations with each other to rebel against the party. It is clear that when George Orwell wrote 1984, he was greatly influenced by Yevgeny Zamyatin s We. Because of this, people tend to compare the two novels with each other. When comparing D 503 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In We, D 503 thinks his government is perfect and thinks that what OneState stands for is what is best for the people. D 503 wants everything to be perfect and for everything to be perfect there has to be complete control over everyone and everything. He likes that there is complete control over the people of OneState because it makes his world mathematically perfect. In contrast to D 503, Winston disagrees with everything that Oceania stands for. He does not agree with how the Party controls the people through doublethink and constant surveillance. When writing in his journal one day, His pen had slid voluptuously over the smooth paper, printing in large neat capitals DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER (Orwell 18). Winston hates big brother and wants nothing to do with him or the party. He is committing a thought crime by just writing his true feelings down. He hates the Party so much that he is willing to risk his life by writing down his hatred towards the Party and big brother. To summarize this difference, D 503 loves his government and wants the people of OneState to be controlled, while Winston hates his government and wants to put a stop to the party. Because of this difference, Orwell departs from Zamyatin s protagonist by having his protagonist actually show his disapproval of the party instead of loving his government like D 503 ... Whether in dress blues, dress whites or khakis, the men and women who dawn the Navy uniform wear it with pride and distinction. Senior Enlisted Leaders must be aware of available organizational clothing and maximize Sailor usage to minimize the financial burden on members. This paper will cover the background of the Navy s uniform requirements and the financial burden required to maintain them, offer discussion on the impact it has on personnel and recommendations for mitigating these impacts. Problem The U.S. Navy provides an initial issue of uniforms to all members upon accession into the service, however the work schedule and working environment reduces wear life. The problem is Sailors are forced to pay the high cost of maintaining and replacing uniforms required for daily use. The U.S. Navy provides 3 sets of Navy Working Uniforms (NWU) and 2 sets of Navy Service Uniforms (NSU) (NAVPERS 15665I). This allotment does not meet the daily use requirements nor are they durable enough to endure the rigors of the work environment and required laundering. • 9. Factories In The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution has been described as a mixed blessing is a statement in which many people can agree. The painstaking work, cruel working conditions, and extremely long hours for all employees shows the struggles people went through for the advancement of their country. Workers wanted to see technology and their country progress so they did the work necessary. The end result was something the world had never seen, so many new technological advancements, and inventions made so many tasks more efficient, and suddenly work became easier all across the globe. One of the most prominent new developments in the Industrial Revolution was factories, and factory workers. Factories were a result of new farming equipment being invented. From 1733 1787 five new inventions were made to help modernize the cotton industry. These new machines were, the Flying Shuttle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The working conditions were dangerous, and unhealthy. Inside the factories is has poor lighting which made doing the actual work much more difficult. Machines themselves caused injury as well. The various moving parts of machinery caused cuts, and the most extreme cases, amputations. Women had it much worse due to their long hair, which could get stuck in machinery too. Children were often given the task on cleaning under the machines, many would fall asleep and would become severely wounded. And because there were no government programs to help in case of injury, these incidents kept occuring. However laws did pass to eliminate these unlawful working conditions. The Factory Act of 1833 made it illegal to hire children under 9 years old, for children between ages 9 to 12 to work more than 8 hours, and children 13 to 17 to work more than 12 hours. • 10. Compare And Contrast A Rose For Emily And The Open Boat Compare and Contrast In this paper, I will be comparing and contrasting three works that we have studied this semester. I will be writing about A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, The Hairy Ape by Eugene O Neill, and The Open Boat by Stephen Crane. All of these authors stories use setting to encompass the idea of freedom. Each author has a different perspective on liberty and they all express it differently through their writing. In each story the main character is trapped, either literally or metaphorically. They can all achieve freedom from their situations, but there are obstacles that stop them from reaching their goal. Miss Emily can leave the house anytime and achieve freedom, but she knows that it would be far too hard to leave the place she grew up. The men in the lifeboat can try to head for shore at any time but there are many obstacles that stand in their way. Miss Emily is not in a life or death situation like these men, but she does have to deal with obstacles in the way of her freedom as well. If she leaves the house she would have nowhere to go; all of the people in the town would look down on her and shun her because she is not wealthy anymore. She could move away, but she would not be able to survive own her own; she has always had her dad and the servant to do everything for her. In The Open Boat, the men are phased with a lose lose situation, unlike Miss Emily. She could either stay in the house until she dies, which she did, or take a chance and achieve freedom. The men, on the other hand, are in a tight spot, because either way they could die. They could wait on the lifeboat and die a slow painful death or they could try to gain their freedom and die in the process. They decide to risk their lives for a possibility of surviving and achieving their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Creative Writing Is Not A Stranger Creative writing is not a stranger to the classroom. It s more like a third cousin you see at family reunions. Unfortunately, creative writing is not seen as a beneficial skill students need to learn. Instead, it is used for elective classes or to fulfill a small section of a language arts standard. Creative writing provides more than entertainment, it provides skills, which [students] have acquired in their pursuit of a fictional character, will serve them equally well in their pursuit of subjects for expository, persuasive, and analytic essays (Anderson, 47). This genre of writing requires creativity, curiosity, and technical skills. Creative writing is detrimental to the progression of students writing ability. Teaching creative writing is not as simple as letting students explore their imaginations, Peterson (2014) and Crumey (2012) both suggest prior knowledge plays a significant role in the creative writing process. It has been widely said a writer should, write what they know. This sentiment is often shared as a nugget of wisdom to aspiring writers or those struggling from writer s block. Peterson (2014) says, young writers should be passionate about what [they] do. Passion drives the best storytelling (500). Crumey s (2012) argument is that to become a better writer, you need to be well read and you need to write. He emphasizes this with a quote by Stephen King: You ve got to read a lot and write a lot (114). Crumey (2012) explains the difference between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I had never read any Roman writers, and had only minimal exposure to Greeks. We read the Iliad, Odyssey, and Greek tragedian Euripides and Sophocles and then Horace and Plautus. While this was years ago, our recent readings for class were totally fresh and new and simultaneously familiar! I am struck again by the fact that there are no new or original ideas in our modern society. Reading, Twin Menaechmi seemed too familiar. I am not as well read as many of you, so it took me a moment to make the connection to Shakespeare s Comedy of Errors . Which in turn reminded me of an awful movie ... As a result of the conquering nature of the Romans, they also took the parts of civilizations they conquered. The best of Greek theatre and Aristotle s Poetics became property of the Romans. Plautus often adapted works of the Greeks, which was not plagiarism but was a commendable addition to Roman culture. Also, similarly, the Romans celebration of theatre was part of a festival celebrated the gods. Romans celebrated with games, theatre and ritual to honor Jupiter, Apollo, Mother Goddess, and of course Bacchus. The festivals for Bacchus (Roman Dionysus) was the epitome of Roman decadence and the Roman orgy. Romans took theatre to a new level of spectacle, gore, and lewdness. This made me think if we continue to progress with each generation or as cultures become integrated what becomes the next level of entertainment? What do we look to for inspiration? The Romans looked to the Greeks. In turn making theatre more appealing to Roman citizens. Theatres became larger, carnage was expected, celebrations became drunken orgies, and comedies were more farcical. Whether it means joining a group of people with the same interests, religious beliefs, or ethnicity, people tend to cling to those who relatively have the same characteristics. This can simply be observed in a high school cafeteria, most notably separating groups by athletic or academic interests, within these groups, each person is taking action to be more liked by each of its members. Although a majority of groups are not extremists, the ones that are, thrive because of social influence and the need to belong. H.C. willingly came to SDC when his family could no longer cope with his behaviors. He liked to be independent and was an active worker when he worked at his job sites. H.C. had a bundle of past achievements that he enjoyed mentioning to his aides by pointing at pictures. He was socially withdrawn and would only communicate when he felt that his needs were pressed. He had trouble finding words to communicate what he wanted to say and would like to do things on his own rather than relying on staff. He also lived by his set schedule, so anytime there was an appointment set for him he needed to be reminded before his day began. On one side the rich may feel that the government takes from the rich, and gives to the poor. The poor on the other hand may believe that they are being forgotten and not helped enough by the government. Are the government financial assistance programs really working and helping people climb out of poverty or are they creating lazy people who depend on government assistance too much? Published in New York in 2011, this work aims to examine Coco Chanel s unconventional journey from poverty to glamour, along which she helped to redefine the idea of the modern European woman. Countless artists of note since Manet s time have been influenced by the legacy he left behind. Manet completely deviated from the established artistic traditions, and invented a entirely new type of painting. He was thought to be the frontrunner of the avant garde. He introduced two new features to painting that changed art forever; the adaptation of the image into a personal individual vision, which was completely at odds with existing art practices and the recognition of the fundamental pretense of painting. Ethical Dilemm Conflict Of Interest Ethical Dilemma I Conflict of Interest A conflict of interest exists when an employee s duty to give his or her individual business loyalty to the Company may be prejudiced by actual or potential personal benefit arising from another source. While not presuming to restrict the right of individuals to passively invest or participate in other business ventures, the Company is concerned where those interests might lead to conflicting interests on the part of the individual. For example, a conflict of interest may arise when a director takes actions or has interests that may make it difficult to perform his/her work for the Company objectively and effectively. These conflicts of interest arise when a director, or member of the director s family, receives improper personal benefits because of the director s position with the Company. These benefits may include Gifts, Entertainment and Gratuities. Based on the procedures mentioned in our text book, our moral choices should take into account our specific duties, any essential ideals that our actions would support or weaken, and, finally, the effects or consequences of the different options open to us. In taking into consideration the last part of the above statement, remember that even loyal non consequentialists recognize that the likely results of our actions are relevant to their moral assessment and that we have some duty to promote human well being (Shaw 402).
