Insurance Analysis in Kenya
Introduction
Insurance in Kenya is known to have been in existence for over sixty years now with the first
insurance companies believed to have been owned by British insurers during the colonial times. The
industry is governed by the Insurance Act and regulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority. The
Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) was created by the Insurance (Amendment) Act of 2006 and
came into operation on 1st May 2007.
The Authority was established with the mandate of regulating, supervising and developing the
insurance industry. Before the establishment of IRA, these functions were performed by the
Department of Insurance in the Ministry of Finance. (IRA 2010)
As per AKI Insurance Industry Report for the year 2009, there ... Show more content on

Medical insurance is divided into three segments, one health cover operated by employers, the second
individual cover and the third coverage operated by the government targeting low income earners
through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). Health insurers have raised concern about clients
who view cover value as expensive as opposed to the benefits. That s why insurers are coming up with
affordable schemes. Medical e cards that users top up, similar to prepaid airtime scratch cards, any
member of the family can use the e card as long it has money. Due to poor health infrastructure in the
country, rural hospitals have inadequate facilities and are understaffed, thereby making people to
travel to major city for treatment; this has also contributed to the rise in health insurance cost. Many
insurers have shied away from HIV AIDs insurance because of the risks involved.
Travel cover is currently being offered by only two insurers, one of them has partnered with Kenya s
main airline company to provide a package that covers loss of luggage, flight delays, cancellation,

Essay on Time Value Of Money
Time Value of Money
The time value of money serves as the foundation of finance. The fact that a dollar today is worth
more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a
dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial
calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of
the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated.
One financial application of the time value of money is buying or selling a house mortgage note.
Although normally handled by financial institutions, individuals can use this as an investment
opportunity. The first step is having the note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The MBA graduate will add to this calculation the opportunity cost which D. Henderson points out is
redundant in word use, but an invaluable concept to the financial world. The true cost of something is
what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue.
In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it
could be used for instead. (2002).
In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price,
the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See
Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the
principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005).
The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs
(41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up
costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the
money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. At a return rate of 8%, if
the buyer had purchased a less expense car at 30,000 and invested 500 per year over 20 years, he
would have 22,881 out

The Geologic Record
It can be argued by some geologists that significantly more time is lost at bedding planes than is
recorded by the accumulation of sediment and its later lithification into a sedimentary rock. In the
present paper, the continuity of the sedimentary record is investigated. It is hypothesized that
sedimentary strata preserved predominately records episodic sedimentation events and gaps
represented by bedding planes symbolize more time than the preserved strata. The incompleteness of
the geologic record and the role of rare events was studied using data gathered from a variety of
sedimentary outcrops and cores. The author addressed his hypothesis using this collected data in terms
of sediment preservation and represented preservation as a function of two modes of geomorphic
processes: Magnitude and frequency. The author tested his hypothesis using relatively modern storm
events to represent sedimentation, showing how daily processes can distort the geologic record, and
by using ancient examples to illustrate how some storms can be preserved in spectacular condition.
The results of this study support the hypothesis that the stratigraphic record represents episodic
phenomena rather than continuous deposition. When describing fluvial processes, the study was
significant in that infrequent, extremely high magnitude fluvial events in a canyon located below base
level leaves sediment deposits that are preserved for a long period of time. In contrast, frequent floods
occurring the

The Pros And Cons Of Amphibian Trade
Our planet is currently suffering its Sixth Great Extinction, a time in which a various species of
organisms are disappearing at an unprecedented rate (Collins and Crump xv). The most rapidly
disappearing groups of organisms are amphibians, and over 200 of these species have been brought to
extinction since the year of 1970 (Save the Frogs). One of the largest causes of their rapid declines is
the spread of the lethal disease chytridiomycosis, a fungal disease largely spread by humans
(Whittaker and Vredenburg). Frogs and other amphibians are dying from this chytridiomycosis
because of our selfishly taking them from the wild to an assortment of distant locations simply for the
pet trade, food trade, and dissections, which are all unnecessary to economies (Kriger and Hero 1). In
order to conserve the over 2000 amphibian species in danger, the ecosystems they support, and
humans as well, we must prevent the lethal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Trenton W. J. Garner, Ian Stephen, Emma Wombwell, and Matthew C. Fisher in their
letter, The Amphibian Trade: Bans or Best Practice?, that it is impractical to ban the amphibian trade.
They reason that as the amphibian trades are growing, it will be impossible to ban amphibian trades,
and that the transportation of amphibians should instead have stricter regulations. After all, they claim,
it is doubtful countries with an unstable economy and little food would not go out of their way to
reduce a potential food source and with that any economic benefits of the amphibian trades. Of course
regulations are certainly beneficial, and it may be challenging to convince certain governments to
implement bans or other legislation. Nevertheless, it makes little sense why anyone should suggest
that people should not try to ban or severely restrict amphibian trades. Should people succeed in
limiting the spread of this fungus, countless amphibian species could be saved from extinction. Is that

The Radical Enlightenment Hated Everything That Was Religion
REL 2011 Midterm Essay
QUESTION 2 The radical Enlightenment hated everything that was religion. This was a time where
scientific naturalism was being applied to every field of inquiry and everything, including religion,
was under scrutiny. The philosophers during the Enlightenment each had their reasons for their hostile
view of religion. The distaste for religion began when Reimarus wrote , which was published for the
first time in 1972 and had 1400 pages of content. His book labeled the second coming of Christ a
farce, he believed that the disciples stole the body of Christ and fabricated the resurrection. Reimarus
accused the disciples of using the idea of Christ coming back as a way to maintain a sense of power.
He went as far as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s stance leaned more towards understanding morality. He stated that you cannot go to religion for
morality, due to it being the death of morality itself. Moreover, Kant sheds light on the imperfections
of the Bible. He viewed the God of the Bible in a different perspective, calling him an arbitrary tyrant.
A god that commands his followers to kill, to sacrifice, and one that damns people to hellfire. These
statements by Kant led people to think that religion altogether must be eliminated and people should
focus more on reason rather than revelation. Schleiermacher and Hagel had a different view of the
radical Enlightenment and points made during it. Schleiermacher believed that Kant is undermining
reason. He believes Kant is wrong because in his view religion is ethics and the enlightenment has the
wrong idea by trying to throw our religion. He understands the concept of god has to be interpreted if
we want to keep it. Schleiermacher wants to keep religion, not let it go the way the Enlightenment
wants to, he wants to keep Christianity and wants us to rethink Christianity. Hagel as well wants to be
the savior of Christianity, he wants to rescue to the content. He sees the Enlightenment as a necessary
step in the development of god. Because we are a manifestation of the absolute, that s what the
kingdom of god means, this world and this process, it is the unfolding of the will of god and we are
the agents of that process.

the context of word problems has a few characteristics that make it reliable. The first reason that this
assessment is reliable is that it directly tests knowledge that was taught during the day s mini lesson. It

The Water Quality Of Freshwater Systems
Introduction The goal of this lab is to test the water quality of freshwater systems around the Roxana
area to determine if the local petroleum plant is causing a decrease in water purity. Literature review
To believe that human development has not increased our impact on the world we live in is a blind
mans assumption. In fact, scientists are able to detect even the incredibly small actions we have on the
world around us (National Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). New technology allows us to see
that our pollution is causing a great deal of damage, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Freshwater
ecosystems are often the receiving end of our pollution because they are abundant and water will
quickly wash our byproducts away. However, to say these byproducts do not affect other locations is
false. Often times, runoff of human sewage and waste will find its way to freshwater ecosystems and
harm the wildlife that resides there. Even humans can feel the affects of our own waste. Pollution is
just as likely to work its way into our drinking water as it is a nearby pond. And in some parts of the
world, there are no regulations to make sure that people are not consuming this tainted water (National
Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). There are many ways pollutants can harm an ecosystem, but
how they actually harm it is an unknown to many people. In a freshwater ecosystem, the pH level of
the water can greatly affect living organisms within the ecosystem. There

physical and psychological needs. From the bottom, the hierarchy includes; physiological, safety,

Examples Of The Strongest Individual In The Crucible
The Strongest Individual in The Crucible The philosopher Baltasar Gracian said, A single lie destroys
a whole reputation of integrity. This statement means a person could easily ruin a good reputation by
lying and even if you attempt to cover it up, your credibility is still lost. In Arthur Miller s play The
Crucible, the character John Proctor is most independent and shows the most individualism. The
strongest ways he shows this are going against the church, being selfish about his name and having an
affair and admitting it. One of the ways a well known farmer, John Proctor, shows individuality is
through his problems with the church. An example of one of his issues is when Reverend Hale, a

When the deputy governor, Judge Danforth, pleads with John to lie and admit to witchcraft John
argues and says, How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave my name! (207).
While Danforth begs John to admit, John is more worried about his name. He does not care that it is
selfish to protect his name, which shows his strong independent views. He also just wants a clean slate
and his children to think highly of him, he does not care about what is good for the community. As
Judge Danforth continues to push John to sign his name to witchcraft, and lie about committing the
crime, John goes back and forth eventually choosing to stay honest and die for his beliefs. John than
states, ... Because I lie and sign myself to lies! (207). Here John sticks to being honest, instead of

chance to be false and save his life, but that does not matter to him. He would have most likely been

it. When Proctor does not give into lying and keeps his clean name, he displays amazing integrity and

Animals in Captivity
Zoos have been around for many years, the first one opening on July 1, 1987 in Philadelphia, USA.
Although the quality of zoos has changed and developed over the many years since then, some people
believe that the zoos shouldn t exist, including organisations that strive to close down zoos and return
the animals back to their natural habitat.
Even though some zoos have billions invested into them they will never really be able to compete with
an animal s natural habitat. Zoos attempt to replicate an animal s natural habitat but in reality all they

natural instincts, such as hunting, flying, foraging and even choosing their own partner. Increasing
numbers of zoos are using breeding programmes in an attempt to avoid the extinction of various

Marijuana And Other Narcotic Drugs
Marijuana and other narcotic drugs have been a controversial topic on a national and global scale
throughout the century. Marijuana especially is considered a drug that s harmful and helpful at the
same time. People have formed opinions about different drugs based upon their observations and the
scientific research that has been shared with the public from different experimental organizations. We
have had picketers demonstrate their support by protesting for the marijuana movement, which can be
seen in today s news by photos taken of their picketing. And we have seen an increase in our law
enforcement, who has tried to enforce laws imposed against all drugs as being illegal. Whether you are

Marijuana can be widely found and be easily grown in the United States. The easy accessibility of
drugs poses a serious threat to law enforcement around the country that have and has tried to enforce
the law to eradicate the use of drugs according to laws put into place by the legislature and supposedly
most of the people in that state. Marijuana is still illegal in some states and as time progresses the
number of states which can still uphold that marijuana is illegal has changed. Today, Twenty three
states and the District of Columbia currently have laws legalizing marijuana in some form or way out
of the fifty two states of the Union. The increase in marijuana and other drugs being used in that state
has its ties to narcotic crime which could be linked to the cartel for other drugs that are out there.
Thus, it increases narcotic crime in those states that choose to legalize it. Another con of marijuana
and of other dangerous drug use is the most obvious. It s the health of the individual who consumes it
by smoking it. Your lungs are inhaling substances such as tar and it is among other things that can
affect your breathing. According to the American Lung Association, Smoking marijuana clearly

The Aftermath Of World War II Essay
The aftermath of World War II in East Asia resulted in much more than the rebuilding of individual
governments or countries. The Second World War is still a major factor in diplomatic rifts between
East Asian Countries. The treaties signed to end the war could not erase decades of history central to
the current relationships between East Asian countries. Unfortunately, that is exactly what some argue
Japan is doing through government approved revisions of history textbooks. The textbook revision
controversy in East Asia is multi faceted and cannot be solely attributed to the aftermath of the World
War II, but it does illustrate the effect of the World War II on international relationships in East Asia
even still today. It s hard to imagine how a textbook could cause so much dispute. While the
international contention is based on the content of the government suggested revisions, it is important
to understand the textbook revision history and process first. The basis of the current textbook
approval system in Japan dates back to pre World War II. Post war, the Japanese government used this
already in place system to blot out passages that might offend the American occupiers (Masalski).
During this time of American occupation post war, the Supreme Court for the Allied Powers enforced
a system of yearly government review of textbooks in order to ensure that textbooks did not encourage
emperor worship or militarism (Masalski). The textbooks used in Japanese schools are

Innovation at International Food Essay
Abstract This paper provides a written analysis of the Innovation at International Foods (IFG) case
study. The paper will provide an analysis of the issues that Josh Novak, the new team manager at IFG
is facing with the existing staff. Josh has come for Glow Foods which was a smaller company that has
been purchased by IFG. Josh was retained due to the innovative ideas that produced significant growth
at Glow Foods by reaching the younger market. It has now become his job at IFG to do the same.
However, as Josh is becoming more acclimated to the way things are done at IFG, he and his team are

They need to communicate their ideas effectively while addressing the concerns of the others. Josh s
team is a group of young and enthusiastic people; they are very talented and can more than succeeded
with the task at hand. However, they must take the concerns seriously and be prepared to address
them. In order for Josh and his team to overcome the uncertainty, they must be clear with their
objectives, they have to be easily understood by the rest of the team and the organization so that they
will be perceived as being achievable. When Josh addressed the team and stated that they do not know
the benefits, because they have not done this before (p. 233). They did not gain any support for the
team, and their understanding of IFG s strategy and vision may be questioned. Uncertainty with

is an issue with the existing staff and the new staff as well. Josh comes from a smaller company where
he had the ability to be innovative and brainstorm new ways to help Glow Foods, he was able to
implement quickly. At Glow Foods they understood the power of social media tools and they took
advantage of what they had to offer. However at IFG, they need permission to even access Instant

Discursive Practices and Gendered Reflections of Its Use
Introduction
The following theoretical framework is divided in five sections. The first one deals with the
background to the study where a classification of research studies is done in terms of the way that
language and discourse have been researched. The second part reflects the issue of gender in applied
linguistics. The third tackles some key conceptualizations of literacy in terms of the research study.
The fourth aims to explain how writing is undertaken to fulfill a brief description of the basis that
underlies the study. Within it, it is explained the write to learn perspective that is the scope of the
investigation.
Background to the study
Bucholtz (2003) asserts that discourse is language in context. Discourse enables establishing the
existing relationship between language and gender within a given context. Then, discourse becomes
the materialization of such a relationship. That is why discourse analysis has become one of the most
outstanding methodologies to unravel gender issues within the EFL classroom.
The foci of these studies have been the way the discursive practices are used and what gendered
reflections this use shows. Some of these studies stress discourse as an anthropological tradition
(Bucholtz, 2003). This point of view highlights how language is used in the cultural practices of the
human beings. It also cares for the existing differences between men and women; but most
importantly the closed relationship between culture and language use Explain

A regular intake of KFC products can have harmful effects on long term health since trans fat is a

According to the National Institutes of Health, the unbalanced diet resulting from the consumption of
fast food increases the chances of fatal health conditions, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease,

high blood sugar levels increase the chances of heart disease and diabetes. Between 1972 and 1995,
the amount of Americans diagnosed with diabetes doubled, along with the number of fast food

Why Batteries Are Very Important
Batteries, The Science Behind Them, and Their Importance Batteries are extremely important. But
most people don t know the science behind it or how imperative they really are. Today, I will tell you
about this, the items they power, they re importance, and how they really work. A battery is a device
that stores electrical energy in the form of chemical energy. When it comes to the use of batteries, they
are imperative to most people s lives. They re used for practically everything like flashlights, watches,
calculators, phones, laptops, and power tools. Bigger things include cars, trucks, buses, lawn mowers,
wheel chairs, forklifts, trains, and satellites. So they re very important and even more important when
you consider that they power smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. As said before, society is heavily
impacted by batteries. Without them, everything would always need to be plugged in, or need to be
charged. There d be lots of outlets and plugs without batteries. But how many important everyday
items do we use that run on batteries? Well, there would be no such thing as wrist watches or
flashlights or anything portable that runs on electricity. Batteries make everything so convenient, we
forget about them. Switching on the TV, texting on your mobile while walking around, or taking
pictures would never be so easy if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A battery has three main parts: it has two terminals made of chemicals, which are called the anode and

device is connected to a battery the chemical on the anode releases electrons to the negative terminal.
This is called an oxidation reaction. While this is happening, at the positive terminal the cathode
accepts electrons. This completes the circuit for the flow of

The specific contributions combat engineers made during this operation primarily came from within
the 82nd Airborne Division. Under the leadership of Brigadier General (BG) James Gavin, his
paratroopers were tasked with dropping in northeast Netherlands to secure bridges at the towns of
Grave and Nijmegan. The 82nd Airborne Division s primary target was securing the bridges at
Nijmegan to facilitate the Allied Forces XXX Corps, who would be arriving through Nijmegan to a
town called Arnhem. Arnhem was a town that laid on the German / Dutch border. Allied Intelligence
determined that two SS Panzer Divisions of German forces occupied that town.
Within the 82nd Airborne Division was the 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR). Assigned to the
504th PIR was Charlie Company 307th Engineer Battalion. On the third day of Operation Market
Garden, the 82nd Airborne, under BG Gavin, was directed to make an assault across the Waal River to
secure the Nijmegan Highway Bridge. The 504th PIR was the primary assault force, augmented with
engineers from C Co 307th Engineer Battalion. Intelligence from the 504th PIR determined that the
crossing was going to happen between two large buildings on the southern bank of the Waal River.
The Engineers determined the river was roughly 1200 feet in width and having a current of about eight
miles per hour. All of the support by fire was provided up and down the

he carried out his remaining obligation to Warner Brothers, at every public appearance, Prince
continued to retaliate by writing the word slave on his cheek (Orwall, 1995). For a period of time
prince did not play his own music. Benny Medina, VP of A R for Warner Brothers at the time,
believed that this was apart of his protest against the record label. Prince was a really unique person
who was not going to be very productive if he was not in a healthy place with the people he had to

Title: So Far So Near
Release Date: 1993
Label: Verve Records
Name: Joe Henderson
Cultural Heritage: American Jazz saxophonist
Liner Notes: The liner notes provide detail on the style Joe uses. It says how he uses harsh tones and
blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these things
added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So Near, So Far is
a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the shadow of people
like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his records stood with the jazz
world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that Joe Henderson had his own
style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked for/with. These notes can be
improved by providing more information on a visual aspect. Henderson s music has a changing
texture, and different form of rhythm.

Biochemical Test E. Coli
I had discovered that my unknown microbe is Escherichia coli (E. coli). After performing various

catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM
test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests.
The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and

production presenting the color red, and positive for motility. Sulfur reduction is a test used to
differentiate enteric bacteria. The indole production test differentiates Enterobacteriaceae. For testing a
wide variety of organisms the motility test is used. The TSI test stands for triple sugar iron agar, my
results had turned out positive presenting a yellow slant and yellow butt (acid/acid). The microbe was

test I had done was the starch hydrolysis. I had gotten a positive result when the result should have

The Radical Social Nationalist Party
In conjunction with the primary leadership of the Ba ath party, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party
(SSNP) was another political institution that relied heavily on Marxist ideology imported through the
French mandate into the Syrian elite classes. The arrival of the SSNP during the early 1930s provided
a backdrop the Marxist influence of Ba ath party officials that had transposed Marxist ideology into
the nationalist movement. The founder of the SSNP, Atun Sa adeh, was a leading figure in the
nationalist movement to transform Syria into socialist nation, which was primarily based on the
foundation of European education that the French had imposed as part of their colonial policies under
the mandate. Sa adeh s own socialist rhetoric was a powerful force, alongside Ba ath party officials, to
transform the country into a socialist nation within the context of a truly nationalist movement:
Ever since the hour in which our social national ideology began to bring together thoughts and
feelings, to unite forces of youth threatened with dispersion by the political and national chaos that
blanket our country, and to transform this into a new system (nizam) with new methods, deriving its
life from the new nationalism, namely the system of the Syrian Social Nationalist party.

Sir Robert Peel and American Policing The history of policing dates back several thousand years ago
when there was no order or peace and inhumane acts upon citizens was the norm with religious,
political, or military police acting as the law. Policing was unstable and unorganized. Citizens took the
law into their own hands and served as judge, jury, and executioner. There was not such a thing as
being innocent until proven guilty. If the community believed an individual was guilty of a crime then
the community would handle the offense themselves. American policing stems from the English
heritage; crime prevention and control, preventive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States admired Sir Robert Peel s principals of policing and therefore adopted it to
incorporate into their legal justice system of law enforcement. The government tried to incorporate Sir
Robert Peel s Principals into different cities with no luck or gratitude. In 1838, Boston became the first
city to incorporate these principals and have the first organized policing in the United States. In 1845,
New York City followed suit. Soon thereafter, Philadelphia followed suit but it did not follow the
principals, destroying different forms of policing. Finally, Philadelphia collaborated their policing
style to be organized and uphold order by way of Sir Robert Peel s Nine Principals. Sir Robert Peel,
known as the father of modern policing, set the foundation for organization and structure in modern
day policing in London. The United States followed behind shortly thereafter to enlist a police force
for order, organization, and service. Peel set up Peel s Nine Principals which the United States still
abides by to this day. The father of policing has helped our government to overcome harsh judgment,
corruption, and harsh actions, and has made it possible for citizens of this society to bond with local
law enforcement. This has allowed our law enforcement to handle situations appropriately and
incorporate bigger agencies to handle more diverse problems throughout the

Thomas Cole
Painting landscapes was very important during the 19th century. Thomas Cole was one of the most
important figures in landscape painting in the United States. He went to many places searching for
nature, which he painted to show the unmatchable beauty nature creates. His works of art helped
people see and take pride in their great land, which was called America. Cole s works were often made
people feel like they needed to go out in nature and discover the inspiring world of mother earth.
Thomas Cole, born on February 1, 1801 in Lancashire, England, found himself at fourteen working as
a textile printer and wood engraver in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Cole returned to his parents in 1819
in Ohio; this is were he learned how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These painters saw landscapes having feelings of hope, divinity, and even harmony. The Hudson River
School was a very important asset to American culture and art. Bordering countries during the
nineteenth century were demolishing America and made Americans want to see their nation survive as
an independent nation.
Cole focuses on the American landscape and mixes idealism and realism into his paintings to really
get viewers to admire nature and its beauty. He believed that landscape painters needed to have
strength determination, and courage to overcome Mother Nature s more turbulent side.
Then, in 1825, John Trumball, an artist, discovered Cole s magnificent work in a frame at a frame
shop. Trumball immediately bought lots of Cole s works and drew art critics attention. With the
Hudson River School being so prosperous the National Academy of design was born.
In the early nineteenth century landscape artists painted scenes of America s east side near the Hudson
River, but by the mid nineteenth century Landscape artists tended to paint portraits of the newly
explored western territory and the South American tropics to show a more extravagant side of the
United States.
Cole s first major painting, The Course of the Empire, was a symbolistic illustration showing the five
stages of an empire; which were the savage state, pastoral state, consummation of the empire,
destruction, and finally desolation. The different canvases display the relationship between man and

Insurance Analysis in Kenya Introduction Insurance in Kenya is known to have been in existence for over sixty years now with the first insurance companies believed to have been owned by British insurers during the colonial times. The industry is governed by the Insurance Act and regulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority. The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) was created by the Insurance (Amendment) Act of 2006 and came into operation on 1st May 2007. The Authority was established with the mandate of regulating, supervising and developing the insurance industry. Before the establishment of IRA, these functions were performed by the Department of Insurance in the Ministry of Finance. (IRA 2010) As per AKI Insurance Industry Report for the year 2009, there ... • 4. Essay on Time Value Of Money Time Value of Money The time value of money serves as the foundation of finance. The fact that a dollar today is worth more than a dollar in the future is the basis for investments and business growth. The future value of a dollar is based on the present dollar amount, interest rate and time period involved. Financial calculators and tables can assist in computing the future and present values, which eases the pain of the mathematically challenged. Yield or rate of return can also be calculated. One financial application of the time value of money is buying or selling a house mortgage note. Although normally handled by financial institutions, individuals can use this as an investment opportunity. The first step is having the note ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The MBA graduate will add to this calculation the opportunity cost which D. Henderson points out is redundant in word use, but an invaluable concept to the financial world. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it. as contract lawyers and airplane pilots know, redundancy can be a virtue. In this case, its virtue is to remind us that the cost of using a resource arises from the value of what it could be used for instead. (2002). In the above example, if the consumer was to buy a less expensive car, or finance less of the car price, the funds not being used for car payments could be invested for a higher yield. The table (See Amortization Table 1) in the text demonstrates how part of the loan payment is applied towards the principle and rest goes towards reducing the principle amount (Block, Hirt, 2005). The main learning of the amortization table is that the owner will pay slightly more in interest costs (41,000) as he did for the loan of 40,000. So the car that was priced at 40,000 actually ended up costing the owner 81,000. The amount paid is compounded if the owner takes into consideration the money that could have been earned if part of those funds had been invested. At a return rate of 8%, if the buyer had purchased a less expense car at 30,000 and invested 500 per year over 20 years, he would have 22,881 out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Geologic Record It can be argued by some geologists that significantly more time is lost at bedding planes than is recorded by the accumulation of sediment and its later lithification into a sedimentary rock. In the present paper, the continuity of the sedimentary record is investigated. It is hypothesized that sedimentary strata preserved predominately records episodic sedimentation events and gaps represented by bedding planes symbolize more time than the preserved strata. The incompleteness of the geologic record and the role of rare events was studied using data gathered from a variety of sedimentary outcrops and cores. The author addressed his hypothesis using this collected data in terms of sediment preservation and represented preservation as a function of two modes of geomorphic processes: Magnitude and frequency. The author tested his hypothesis using relatively modern storm events to represent sedimentation, showing how daily processes can distort the geologic record, and by using ancient examples to illustrate how some storms can be preserved in spectacular condition. The results of this study support the hypothesis that the stratigraphic record represents episodic phenomena rather than continuous deposition. When describing fluvial processes, the study was significant in that infrequent, extremely high magnitude fluvial events in a canyon located below base level leaves sediment deposits that are preserved for a long period of time. In contrast, frequent floods occurring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Amphibian Trade Our planet is currently suffering its Sixth Great Extinction, a time in which a various species of organisms are disappearing at an unprecedented rate (Collins and Crump xv). The most rapidly disappearing groups of organisms are amphibians, and over 200 of these species have been brought to extinction since the year of 1970 (Save the Frogs). One of the largest causes of their rapid declines is the spread of the lethal disease chytridiomycosis, a fungal disease largely spread by humans (Whittaker and Vredenburg). Frogs and other amphibians are dying from this chytridiomycosis because of our selfishly taking them from the wild to an assortment of distant locations simply for the pet trade, food trade, and dissections, which are all unnecessary to economies (Kriger and Hero 1). After all, they claim, it is doubtful countries with an unstable economy and little food would not go out of their way to reduce a potential food source and with that any economic benefits of the amphibian trades. Of course regulations are certainly beneficial, and it may be challenging to convince certain governments to implement bans or other legislation. Nevertheless, it makes little sense why anyone should suggest that people should not try to ban or severely restrict amphibian trades. Should people succeed in limiting the spread of this fungus, countless amphibian species could be saved from extinction. Is that not worth the possibility of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a time where scientific naturalism was being applied to every field of inquiry and everything, including religion, was under scrutiny. The philosophers during the Enlightenment each had their reasons for their hostile view of religion. The distaste for religion began when Reimarus wrote , which was published for the first time in 1972 and had 1400 pages of content. His book labeled the second coming of Christ a farce, he believed that the disciples stole the body of Christ and fabricated the resurrection. Kant s stance leaned more towards understanding morality. He stated that you cannot go to religion for morality, due to it being the death of morality itself. Moreover, Kant sheds light on the imperfections of the Bible. He viewed the God of the Bible in a different perspective, calling him an arbitrary tyrant. A god that commands his followers to kill, to sacrifice, and one that damns people to hellfire. These statements by Kant led people to think that religion altogether must be eliminated and people should focus more on reason rather than revelation. Schleiermacher and Hagel had a different view of the radical Enlightenment and points made during it. Schleiermacher believed that Kant is undermining reason. He believes Kant is wrong because in his view religion is ethics and the enlightenment has the wrong idea by trying to throw our religion. He understands the concept of god has to be interpreted if we want to keep it. Schleiermacher wants to keep religion, not let it go the way the Enlightenment wants to, he wants to keep Christianity and wants us to rethink Christianity. • 12. The Water Quality Of Freshwater Systems Introduction The goal of this lab is to test the water quality of freshwater systems around the Roxana area to determine if the local petroleum plant is causing a decrease in water purity. Literature review To believe that human development has not increased our impact on the world we live in is a blind mans assumption. In fact, scientists are able to detect even the incredibly small actions we have on the world around us (National Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). New technology allows us to see that our pollution is causing a great deal of damage, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems are often the receiving end of our pollution because they are abundant and water will quickly wash our byproducts away. However, to say these byproducts do not affect other locations is false. Often times, runoff of human sewage and waste will find its way to freshwater ecosystems and harm the wildlife that resides there. Even humans can feel the affects of our own waste. Pollution is just as likely to work its way into our drinking water as it is a nearby pond. And in some parts of the world, there are no regulations to make sure that people are not consuming this tainted water (National Geographic Freshwater 101: Pollution). There are many ways pollutants can harm an ecosystem, but how they actually harm it is an unknown to many people. In a freshwater ecosystem, the pH level of the water can greatly affect living organisms within the ecosystem. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Second World War is still a major factor in diplomatic rifts between East Asian Countries. The treaties signed to end the war could not erase decades of history central to the current relationships between East Asian countries. Unfortunately, that is exactly what some argue Japan is doing through government approved revisions of history textbooks. The textbook revision controversy in East Asia is multi faceted and cannot be solely attributed to the aftermath of the World War II, but it does illustrate the effect of the World War II on international relationships in East Asia even still today. It s hard to imagine how a textbook could cause so much dispute. While the international contention is based on the content of the government suggested revisions, it is important to understand the textbook revision history and process first. The basis of the current textbook approval system in Japan dates back to pre World War II. Post war, the Japanese government used this already in place system to blot out passages that might offend the American occupiers (Masalski). During this time of American occupation post war, the Supreme Court for the Allied Powers enforced a system of yearly government review of textbooks in order to ensure that textbooks did not encourage emperor worship or militarism (Masalski). In Zora Neale Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, she uses figurative language to show how people in Janie s life are judgemental of her, from being judged on her appearance to being judged on her life. At the very opening of the novel the author shows that Janie s entrance into the story was even judged, this foreshadows judgement throughout the novel. But now the sun and the bossman were gone, so the skins felt powerful and humans. They become lords of sound and lesser things. They passed nations through their mouths. They sat in judgement (pg. 1). The people of the town judge Janie up and down as she, literally, walks into the story and the men noticed her firm buttocks, like she had grapefruits in her hip pockets (pg. 2), ... It says how he uses harsh tones and blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these things added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So Near, So Far is a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the shadow of people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his records stood with the jazz world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that Joe Henderson had his own style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked for/with. These notes can be improved by providing more information on a visual aspect. Henderson s music has a changing texture, and different form of rhythm. After performing various biochemical tests E. coli seemed to fit my microbe the best with only having two misguided biochemical tests that had not fit the data. The tests that were performed included the MRVP test, catalase test, oxidase test, nitrate test, citrate slant test, phenylalanine deaminase test, urea test, SIM test, TSI test, and starch test. These tests helped me discover my microbe along with a few other tests. The first biochemical test I performed was the MRVP test. This test is known as the Methyl Red and Vages Proskauer test. The Radical Social Nationalist Party In conjunction with the primary leadership of the Ba ath party, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) was another political institution that relied heavily on Marxist ideology imported through the French mandate into the Syrian elite classes. The arrival of the SSNP during the early 1930s provided a backdrop the Marxist influence of Ba ath party officials that had transposed Marxist ideology into the nationalist movement. The founder of the SSNP, Atun Sa adeh, was a leading figure in the nationalist movement to transform Syria into socialist nation, which was primarily based on the foundation of European education that the French had imposed as part of their colonial policies under the mandate. Sa adeh s own socialist rhetoric was a powerful force, alongside Ba ath party officials, to transform the country into a socialist nation within the context of a truly nationalist movement: Ever since the hour in which our social national ideology began to bring together thoughts and feelings, to unite forces of youth threatened with dispersion by the political and national chaos that blanket our country, and to transform this into a new system (nizam) with new methods, deriving its life from the new nationalism, namely the system of the Syrian Social Nationalist party. Sir Robert Peel and American Policing Sir Robert Peel and American Policing Kristi Pursley CJA/214 August 15, 2011 Don Redden Sir Robert Peel and American Policing The history of policing dates back several thousand years ago when there was no order or peace and inhumane acts upon citizens was the norm with religious, political, or military police acting as the law. Policing was unstable and unorganized. Citizens took the law into their own hands and served as judge, jury, and executioner. There was not such a thing as being innocent until proven guilty. If the community believed an individual was guilty of a crime then the community would handle the offense themselves. Soon thereafter, Philadelphia followed suit but it did not follow the principals, destroying different forms of policing. Finally, Philadelphia collaborated their policing style to be organized and uphold order by way of Sir Robert Peel s Nine Principals. Sir Robert Peel, known as the father of modern policing, set the foundation for organization and structure in modern day policing in London. The United States followed behind shortly thereafter to enlist a police force for order, organization, and service. Cole focuses on the American landscape and mixes idealism and realism into his paintings to really get viewers to admire nature and its beauty. He believed that landscape painters needed to have strength determination, and courage to overcome Mother Nature s more turbulent side. Then, in 1825, John Trumball, an artist, discovered Cole s magnificent work in a frame at a frame shop. Trumball immediately bought lots of Cole s works and drew art critics attention.
