The Fundamental Law Of Nature And Government
In this essay I will be arguing that the prerogative is a right that is needed by the executive
branch in order to fulfill the fundamental law of nature and government: the preservation of all of
its members. So long as the fiduciary grant is meant to achieve this goal it has the right to be
exercised at the discretion of its user. This argument will discuss the nature of the prerogative, its
necessity, and its justification for use. This will be supported with evidence from Locke s Second
Treatise of Government. The prerogative is not an abusive instrument that is meant to subverts the
laws society; it is a tool meant to adhere with utmost urgency to the fundamental law of society:
doing what is best for the people and their property. It is meant to ensure that not even its own laws
can do harm to the citizens it so righteously protects. The enshrinement of this ideal is founded on
the social contractall members of civil society enter into when they become a part of society. This
contract is created from something as well; the law that governed man in its original state of
nature, reason. Locke asserts that man was born into the world in a perfect state of freedom to
order his own actions. He is capable of reciprocal jurisdiction without consent from any outside
influence. Abiding by the law of nature he came to find that all men were independent and equal
by divine will. Since God had created all men they would be his property, and thus all would be
held in the same

Union Carbide s Bhopal Disaster
Union Carbide s Bhopal Disaster
In 1984, as if in a nightmare, a cloud of poison gas reached out and snuffed the lives of thousands
of people in the sleeping city of Bhopal, India. The residents awoke to a terrible disaster, a
chemical explosion whose memory could never be erased. At the center of the tragedy was the
Union Carbide pesticide plant, and surrounding the accident were doubts and accusations of
negligence and unethical practices.
The Disaster
On December 3, 1984, one of the world s worst chemical disasters occurred at the Union Carbide
pesticide plant in Bhopal, India. Forty tons of vaporous methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas exploded,
releasing a toxic mixture of MIC, hydrogen cyanide, monomethyl amine, carbon monoxide, and ...

11). Author David Weir quoted a United Nations official who wished to remain anonymous when he
said,
Even those companies that say they will maintain the same standards as in the developed world
find it difficult to resist the temptation to take a shortcut. Even if they have a good design for their
plant, however, there s no good infrastructure in the underdeveloped countries. Even if they put it
away from population centers, who will check and control that the people don t come in around it?
(Newton Dillingham, 2002, p. 90).
Had Union Carbide exercised more responsibility and ethics from the very beginning, perhaps the
Bhopal disaster would have been avoided.
Preventing Future Disasters
The Bhopal accident served as a wake up call for the chemical industry (Lang, 1984, para. 23). In
response, the Chemical Manufacturers Association created a program called Responsible CareВ®,
the chemical industry s commitment to the continuous improvement of environmental, health,
safety and security performance (Overview, 2004, para. 1). Jeff Lipton, chief executive of Nova
Chemicals Corp stated, When the average person thinks about chemicals, they think about risks
and hazards instead of benefits (Herrick, 2003, para. 9). Responsible CareВ® addresses those
concerns by implementing the following practices: (Overview, 2004, para. 2):

Why Is Social Exchange Theory Important
Ever had a friend that used to be so close to but suddenly never see anymore? How many people
would you say have left your life, even if they were extremely close to you at some point? It s a
fact that not all friendships last forever. One thing I ll always ask myself is, why is it that we stay
connected with some people but not with others? According to the Social Exchangetheory, people
analyze the benefits and probable risks of social relationships. When the risks exceed the rewards,
the individual dismisses that relationship.
Social exchange theory studies the reciprocal action between two parties by looking at the costs and
benefits to each one of them. The central point of the theory is that it expects that both parties

Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter
In 1953 Lamb to the slaughter was lastly published by the author Roald Dahl. Initially Dahls short
stories were rejected including Lamb to the Slaughter. Fortutiously Harper s magazine overlooked
the short story lamb to the slaughter and published it as soon as possible. Dahl as a childrens book
author wanted to demonstrate the ability aspects of human perversity, cruelty, and violence. After
his return from war Dahl stories became very dull. This short storyprefigures the abnormality seen
in the authors work with variety irony as well. Dahl friend Ian Fleming was the person who gave

Love, faith, affection, and loyalty can all be blown away by cruelty situations. Our feelings
change with certain circumstances. We lie to ourselves saying we love someone from our heart.
A heart is only a organ it has nothing to do with feelings. As in the story Mary who loved a lot her

The Separative Self In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
As Plath s novel demonstrates, people often fall victim to their environments. In her article The
Separative Self in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Diane S. Bonds explains how The Bell Jar offers a
brilliant evocation of the oppressive atmosphere of the 1950s and the soul destroying effect this
atmosphere could have on ambitious, high minded young women like Plath (Bonds). Bonds
psychologically analyzes Esther s thoughts and actions to understand her mental decline. She makes
the claim that Esther is haunted by images suggesting the self mutilations of marriageand
motherhood (Bonds). She proves her assertion with the evidence that Esther sees the world as a
series of dismembered body parts. Esther cites the goggle eyed headlines (1) staring up at her
while walking through New York. She details her friend Doreen s physical characteristics: [she]
had bright white hair standing out in cotton candy fluff round her head and blue eyes like
transparent agate marbles, hard and polished and just about indestructible (4). When she returns
home to Massachusetts, she describes her neighbor, Dodo Conway: Not five feet tall, with a
grotesque, protruding stomach (116). In all of these instances, Esther describes human beings
through highlighting their body parts; however, she largely compares those parts to inanimate
objects. She uses the word eyes to describe a headline, which is lifeless.
Furthermore, Bonds explains Esther s repulsion with Dodo s pregnancy: Esther sees Dodo

Controversy Between Theistic Evolution And Religion
As Francis Collins stated, Theistic Evolution is the belief that evolution is real, but that it was set in
motion by God (Collins). Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution,
and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation
included Evolution. People with this belief argue that Evolution is a part of God s Plan. Instead of
interpreting the Bible literally, people of Theistic Evolution belief believe that the Bible should be
interpreted loosely, taking only certain amounts the Bible for truth. Theistic Evolution accepts all
scientific discoveries, or theories, such as the Big Bang, Evolution, and that the world began
millions of years ago. The controversy with Theistic Evolution, is that it is considered to contradict
itself, choosing to interpret only some portions of the Bible literally. The problem is that Christians
with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with
the Bible and Christian religion. While the book of Genesis states that God created the Earth before
the Sun and the Moon, people of the Evolutionist belief say the opposite, claiming that the Sun and
the Moon came before the Earth (Mortenson).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One issue, is that if Christians believe that God rested after the six day creation of the Earth, when
do people that believe in Theistic Evolution believe He rested? Evolution is an ongoing process,
therefore, there has been no time for rest. Theistic Evolutionists are therefore discrediting Genesis
and the Word of God (Stewart). Theistic Evolution also contradicts the Creation of Adam. The
book of Genesis says that God created Man from the dust. God created Adam, a full human. He did
not create a sub human or anything else that developed into Adam, He just created Adam. Theistic
Evolution claims that man developed by evolving from a prior

Hansen s Disease
Hansen s Disease and its Effects on the Homeostasis of Organ Systems
Hansen s disease, more commonly known as leprosy, is a chronic infectious disease that affects the
skin and peripheral nerves, and to a lesser extent, the respiratory and muscular systems of the body
(niaid/nih.giov/diseases conditions/leprosy hansens disease). It is caused by an infection by the
bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It was discovered by Dr. Gerhard H.A. Hansen of Norway in
1873. Soon, the disease leprosy became known as Hansen s disease in honor of his discovery. The
disease is spread through prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many
months (cdc.gov). It is important to note that one cannot become infected through casual contact ...

The muscular system, in conjunction with the skeletal system, is responsible for movement of
the body among other things (VanPutte, 270). The ability of the human body to move has been
critical in the survival of the species over the years for example; escaping from predators is only
possible with skeletal muscle contraction. Hansen s disease generally only affects the peripheral
nerves of the extremities, not the locations of the larger muscle groups; however the smaller
muscles of the hands and feet are vital for the well being of individuals. For example, it would be
quite difficult to feed oneself without the use of hands. Unfortunately, extreme cases of Hansen s
disease cause paralysis of the individual s hands and feet. Paralysis occurs due to deadening of the
peripheral nerves, both sensory and motor. As the afferent neurons lose the ability to receive and
send stimuli, the nerve impulses (action potentials) are sent to the central nervous system less and
less often. Even so, the action potentials that are transmitted to the CNS still are unlikely to
stimulate the skeletal muscles for contraction. This is because the efferent peripheral neurons of the
hands and feet are damaged as well. In effect, the sensory nerves of the extremities cannot receive
much stimuli, and the motor neurons are also less able to start the action potentials in the skeletal
muscle

The Tragedy Of United States
On September 11, 2001, one of the most sorrowful events in American history occurred. One
whose impact would be heart felt for years to come. While Americans slept, the lives of many
were taken.A total of four planes were hijacked and used for suicidal acts in American. Two were
crashed into the twin towers in New York, one hit the pentagon right outside of D.C, and the
other crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. On a clear Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m, an American
Airline with 20,000 jet fuel crashed into the North Tower. Killing Hundreds of people instantly
and leaving no hope for others to escape above the 80th floor of the tower (contained 110 floors),
the road to escape was impossible. New York got hectic. Many believed it was a mistake, as
others questioned whether or not it was real or not.As the people began to evacuate the tower,
news began to report on it and began to televise live images of the accident. Then 18 minutes, after
the first attack, United Airlines 175 appeared in the sky. It turned to the south tower and collided
with the tower right near the 60th floor. After a massive Explosion, debris began to fall on the
builds and surroundings around the towers. American and Americans then knew they were under

EHR In Healthcare
The implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) in the hospital is very complex and
requires detail planning. Recognizing organizational and technical aspects of the EHR is crucial
matter because those factors affect the outcome of the implementation directly and indirectly. The
culture of an organization and its structure, the building block of the organization (infrastructure),
money, management, and human skills play a major role in the implementation phase of EHRs in an
acute care setting (Boonstra, Versluis, Vos, 2014). The EHR implementation in the hospitals would

The Collapse Of The Housing Bubble Collapse
Introduction The following essay will thoroughly examine the severe economic downturn of
2008, formerly known as the housing bubble collapse. We will mainly focus our discussion on
the effects the financial crisis had on Canada and the U.S and examine why both countries were
affected differently. Although the collapse of the housing bubble is the most identifiable cause,
it is extremely difficult to pinpoint one specific defining moment or event triggering the global
financial collapse. There are many factors involved, due to the complex nature of the financial
systems across the world, and this paper will delve in the key contributing variables that led to
this financial crises. To begin, a brief history recap of the financial crises in 2008 will be given.
Following that will be a breakdown of how the financial systems were set up in Canada and the
U.S. We will then, in detail, discuss the Canadian and the U.S financial markets, in particular,
the housing market and how each country was affected by the 2008 financial crisis. Lastly, we
will proceed to evaluate the overwhelming differences between Canada and the U.S; from their
core financial system to mortgages that allowed the Canadian market to remain excluded from
the dire consequences of the US market recession, which followed shortly after the financial
crisis. A Brief History of the 2008 Financial Collapse The 2008 financial collapse were both the
result of a series of deregulatory measures and a lack of

Characteristics Of Rhodesian Ridgebacks
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are dogs that were originated in South Africa, Rhodesia, and Zimbabwe.
They are known as African Lion Hounds, they are also natural born hunters. These Lion Hounds
are kind, strong dogs with ridges on their back. Ridgebacks are great protectors, kind with
children, and kind to many other animals. Rhodesian Ridgebacks will not really bark
unnecessarily. Also this breed knows to be aggressive toward strangers and unfamiliar animals.
These dogs are large dogs. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are lion hounds so they can keep lions at bay. It
sounds impossible but it is not ability to keep a lion at bay while awaiting its master s arrival to

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are large dogs just like German Shepherds they both have a similar
pattern in growth. Both dogs grow to be nearly 2 feet long. They both require dry food, and

Penalties for White Collar Crime Essay
White collar crime has been discussed more frequently in the last few years. The news has made
society aware that white collar crime occurs almost as often as other criminal activity. In fact,
white collar crime is one of the most costly crimes. It is a billion dollar criminal industry. White
collar criminals seem to continue to engage in the criminal practices because there is no set
standard in the penalties given to those that are caught. A look into the public s perception on
whether the penalties given is harsh enough for white collar criminals since most types of crimes

Vary rarely do a white collar criminal ever face a life sentence for the thousands upon thousands of
dollars they have cost a company and members of society.
Compare and Contrast Penalties
Many of the judicial systems in the United States look at white collar crimes as being non
violent. This in turn causes those involved in white collar criminal activity to face lesser
sentences than a person that robbed a bank which could easily face up to twenty five years in
prison; yet they did not acquire as much money as one that was involved in white collar criminal
activity. In fact, it would be more appropriate for the criminal justice system to determine what
degree of aggression was perpetrated by the offender against the victim to assess harm (Perri,
J.D., CFE, CPA, 2011, p. 23). By doing this, punishments for white collar criminals would
change. The penalties should be very similar to robbery and burglary since all typically involve
money that is taken,; especially in financial robbery and burglary. White collar criminals should
even be able to face the same penalties as someone charged with assault. The white collar criminal
may not have inflicted physical damage, but did hurt the victim mentally. On the other hand, white
collar criminals should not face the penalties as some who has taken a life. Even though the victim
may seem like their life is over, but it can be rebuilt.

family members death members (ancestors) have a new existence. They are interested in the

Aspects of Postmodernism in Happy Endings and Videotape
Aspects of Postmodernism in Happy Endings and Videotape According to Neil Bessner
(Bessner), postmodernism is a slippery term to define (15). If we look at the literal meaning of
the word in a regular dictionary, we may encounter something like a style and movement in art
[В…] in the late 20th century that reacts against modern styles, for example by mixing features
form traditional and modern styles . In fact, it has extended many of the fundamental techniques
and assumptions of modern literature. A lot of aspects and characteristics of this relatively new

On the other hand, postmodernism appears as well in Atwood s themes. In this particular story,
it is possible to observe her reject for western value. For instance, in the first ending, the one
which she says is the happy ending, includes a lot of the important capitalist western values such
as remunerative job, real estate values, challenging sex life, vacations, etc. They may appear in
the happy ending, but at the end she says they are all fake and she is being satirical. She
critiques those elements of contemporary society. According to Charlotte Sturgess, Atwood
often discusses about gender relations in her writings (95). In Happy Endings , she portrays a
few couples lives and it seems like she wants to show equality between sexes. Each ending has a
different type of woman. In ending F, a chronicle or our times as she suggests, Mary is a
counterespionage agent, we are far away from the canadian stay at home mother of the previous
century. The last theme is the meaninglessness of life encountered in each ending. Atwood
speaks of the death of her characters as if they were only sleeping, as if it was nothing really
important. Eventually they die. This is the end of the story (37) and She hope he ll discover her

Smith and Duggan also report that 5% of Americans who are currently married or in a long term
partnership met their partner somewhere online, and among those who have been together for

internet can be as serious as those made offline. Social networks are new platforms that people
use to communicate to each other. These social networking sites have had a large jump on
membership over the years. In 2005 the amount of internet users that used social networks sites
such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram was roughly 8% compared to 73% in 2013 according
to the Pew Internet Project. This jump was mainly because people were using social networking

networks continue growing because of the variety of ways they allow people to express
themselves. Instagram, which was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010, allows
people to post pictures of themselves for others to see, while Twitter, founded in 2006 by Jack

Consequences Of Sexualism In Advertising
Sexuality has been a popular tool to use in advertising for the past decades. It has been proven
that people will more likely view an advertisement if it has some form of erotica in it. As said by
Dov Davidoff , Sex sells, unless you re dehydrated in which case you d be much more likely to
purchase water. Even though using sex appeals to sell may have been an effective mechanism to
use, sexual imagery is not the only thing that is being sold and a profit is not the only output.
Utilizing sex in advertisingis not black and white, there are many outcomes of selling sex. The
effects of selling sex is not just money but, it can lead to long term societal consequences. This
research paper will discuss the factors that are influenced by implementation of eroticism in
commercialism such as women, children and controversy. Commonly sensual commercials

The Importance Of Light Energy
Exam 1
Yuvicela Cortes K000700980 (yuvicortes88@gmail.com) login: panda
Question 1
Have you ever thought what Earth would be like without light energy?
So many questions come to mind when we think about light. What is light energy and how is it
measured? How fast does light travel?
Light is referred as an electromagnetic radiation and its nature s way of transferring energy. Without
light, there is no energy and without this energy we would not have the ability to survive. There
are many sources of energy but light is one of the most important because it provides energy to all
living things here on Earth. The sunlight we get from the sun is absorbed by the earth s atmosphere
which in return is then changed to heat energy. This heat energy is what helps keep our earth warm
(sometimes a little too warm for my taste).
All living things rely on light energy to survive. Some animals rely on it to keep themselves
warm, plants rely on the suns energy and convert the sunlight into food energy through a process
called photosynthesis. Humans use light for vision primarily because we use our sight to learn
about the world around us, it is a force that enables us to see. We use light to light our homes, to
grow our crops which eventually we use to eat. Light is all around us no matter where we go and
it travels at 186,282 miles per second. If you can t get an idea of just how fast light travels just
imagine this, you could travel 7.5 times around our planet Earth in just

The Trash Sample
Within the trash sample I analyzed there were around 234 items thrown away within a week s
period. Many of the items thrown away were thrown away in pairs suggesting that two people live
in the dwelling that the sample was taken in. Some examples of items thrown away in pairs include,
Starbucks cups, church bulletins, and Bounty paper towels. Bounty paper products, napkins and
paper towels, show up on the record 24 times, suggesting that Bounty paper products are used over
three times per day, corresponding with meals. Other brands that show up in the sample often
include Green Giant, four times, Kroger Brand, twelve times. Within the Kroger brand items there
are six plastic ziploc bags, this suggests that the people who live in this home either take their
lunch to work or school, or pre package their snacks at home into serving sizes. The two church
bulletins, and church offering envelopes, suggest that both members of the household went to
church once the week they took their trash sample. Another interesting item thrown away was an
old Tommy Hilfiger brand shirt. The members of this household make enough money to throw
away old clothes, suggesting that they live comfortably. We also can tell what bank they use
because they threw away a check box from Regions bank. There was a lot of first aid items in the
trash sample as well multiple boxes of bandages and a box of non stick gauze pads this suggests
that someone in the home had a wound that needed to be dressed. One can

A Research Study On Developmental Disability
According to Gail Goldsmith, BSW, who just retired from Northern Lakes Community Mental
Health, NLCMH is authorized by the Michigan Department of Community Health to provide
mental health services and services to those with developmental disabilities.
Developmental disability is generally defined as a chronic condition, with an onset before age 22,
that cause impairment in one or more areas that impact day to day functioning such as learning,
communication (expressive and receptive language), mobility, cognitive function (information
processing), self help, health/physical functioning and independent living. Conditions such as
Down s syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and fetal alcohol syndrome are some of the most
prevalent causes of impairment. Often these conditions create a need for lifelong support.
According to the Center For Disease Control, in a study published by the American Academy of
Pediatrics, nearly 1 in 6 children in the United States are identified as having a developmental
disability. (Boyle 2011)
According to Gail the demographics have changed dramatically over the years. The number of
clients with autism has increased dramatically. Programs and services change with administration.
Each new administration has their own interpretation of how exactly mandated programs should be
run and what they are and are not required to provide eligible clients.

The main idea of this text is the relationship between the people and the ruler of the Ottoman

the avoidance behavior that has developed over time. The goal of treatment is to improve quality

Exposure therapy ultimately focuses on altering or changing your response to the specific

Alexander III Research Paper
Following his father s assassination, Alexander III was advised that it would be difficult for him
to be kept safe at the Winter Palace. As a result, Alexander relocated his family to the Gatchina
Palace, located twenty miles south of St. Petersburg, making it his primary residence. Under
heavy guard he would make occasional visits into St. Petersburg, but even then he would stay in
the Anichkov Palace, as opposed to the Winter Palace. In the 1860s Alexander fell madly in love
with his mother s lady in waiting, Princess Maria Elimovna Meshcherskaya. Dismayed to learn
that Prince Wittgenstein had proposed to her in spring 1866, he told his parents that he was
prepared to give up his rights of succession in order to marry his beloved Dusenka . On 19 May

Theme In O. Henry s The Gift Of The Magi
Theme in The Gift of the Magi Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest.
(Henry 108). This is one of the quotes from O. Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed
by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the
author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the
set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In
these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer
has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for
Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also
states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops
on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for
someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no
watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author,
the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish
children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house.
(108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing
how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless
because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony
to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations.
During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main
issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair,
said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at the looks of it. Down rippled the brown
cascade. Twenty dollars, said

Abstract: The content and the organization of work represent dimensions which do not only
involve mobilizing competencies but are also dimensions in which competencies are developed. In
an organization people create, accumulate or transfer knowledge, ideas, values, attitudes, feelings or

If we refer to organizations and learning we must also mention what Reg Revans called Active
Learning, a method used for personal training, training specialists and organizational learning.
Grouped in small teams (named active learning groups) people approach important and learn from
achievements in order to change things. Active learning includes four elements: the person itself,
the active learning group, the respective problems and the measures taken in order to solve the
problems which allow learning. The set of values that organizations work with and which
constitutes the subject of learning is a complex one and has determined theoreticians to establish
conceptual hierarchies of knowledge. The model of the five levels 15 that we present below reflects
the progressive accumulation of the value of the data as they turn into competencies (see figure 1).
Therefore, it is obvious that the data are a priori than isolated elements. When elements are placed
into context and combined within a structure, the information acquires higher values. The
information acquires new meanings by interpretations and assimilations, thus turning into
knowledge. On this level, information is placed inside a mental structure and can be consciously
used, for

Garrigan In Idi Amin
Haile Selassie Emperor of Ethiopia was famously quoted as saying Throughout history, it has been
the inaction of those who could of acted; the indifference of those who should have known better;
the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to
triumph. This quote could relate no more so than in the novel The Last King Of Scotland with the
protagonist Nicholas Garrigan who continually takes no action against the atrocities he hears and
witness whilst he is Idi Amins personal physician. We can view Garrigan in two different
perspectives one being that he is a good person who did nothing or the other being he is a good
person that did bad things.
The novel is a memoir of Nicholas Garrigan, a young scottish doctor who moves to uganda in
1971 seeking adventure. He begins work at a small hospital in Mbarara however he soons moves to
kampala to become Idi Amin s personal physician. Once there things begin to turn for the worst in

his position to step in and take action or to keep himself safe. He once again faces a moral
dilemma when Stone the British foreign office representative asks Garrigan to assassinate Amin in

There are multiples in which creates the variation in one language from the way it is pronounced

fake ceilings, gilding, balustrades and other trompe l oeil architectural motifs the decoration of the
Church of Sant Ignazio was his first major fresco series. The main theme, a symbol of the
Apotheosis of St Ignatius, was painted on the ceiling of the nave, which looks like a lofty vaulted
roof embellished by statues, even though the ceiling is actually completely flat.
Pozzo opened up the nave ceiling further by painting an illusionistic cupola, open to the sky, and
populated with upward floating figures. The ceiling fresco depicts the work of Saint Ignatius and
the Society of Jesus; shows Saint Ignatius entering Paradise, being welcomed by Christ and the
Virgin

Analysis Of The Play A Doll s House
The period of the nineteenth century until the twentieth century was viewed as a patriarchal male
society and female dependence; women had to obey men because in most cases men held all the
resources and women had no independent means of subsistence. Women were solely controlled by
the society crafted by men and expected to act as a feminine ideal of that period, in addition, women
were supposed to live a highly restrictive life with their life centered round their husband and
subsequently their children. Although, women were supposed to be treated with respect by men,
most men viewed women as weak and having no ability to perform any task. In the play A Doll s
House the character Nora shows how these expectations affect her behavior which reflect her desire
to change the traditional genderroles in the demanding society she was obligated to adhere to.
When a couple got married in this period her property was now her husband s and as a result,
married women were barred from making contracts, appearing as witnesses in court, and initiating
lawsuits. Nora like the wives of her time had to subject to her husband and Nora is often treated as
a superior servant not as an equal; therefore, she lives without self identity and gender equality.
At the beginning of the play, Nora appears to be a silly, naive, childish girl, but then the reader
learns that she has made a great sacrifice to save her husband s life by borrowing money. Nora acts
this way because that is how her husband

Why were the essays written?
What was hoped readers gain?
The essay was written to show how ordinary people have become because they rather go to the
same destination that has become more of a second home than elsewhere. The customers rather be
satisfied with convenience than with health. The essay was written to inform the reader why

However, it is all just an image the public either ignores or is oblivion to. By saying home away
from home it shows how the public has become so dependent even in times at home with the
family. There are commercials on TV or phones that only anticipate the next visit. The author
shows how these chains have love for children and provides a safe and clean environment. The
whole essay is written an in informal manner to apply to a younger audience. A young audience
that craves attention overall and does not worry much about the economic or political aspect that
usually ties with the word revolution. He also went back and forth to first, second and third person
throughout this essay. It adds to the purpose because he is connecting in a personal level while also
painting a bigger picture. The authors do an excellent job in showing how vampires are much like
the human. They adapt as the human evolves through the scientific evolution. The vampire is as
flexible and polyvalent as ever It shows how the vampire arose from imagination yet without it, it
would be difficult to remind oneself that there are other things in the world unexplainable and

Foils In Sophocles Antigone
Stand up or Don t stand at all
In a human s lifetime someone has to stand up for what they believe in, in order to make a
difference. The Greek play Antigone, by Sophocles takes place in the city of Thebes and is about
two sisters, Ismene and Antigone, reacting to the deaths of their two brothers. Ismene and Antigone
s two brothers were at war on opposites sides of a civil war. They ended up killing each other in
combat. Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the
throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he
will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor
Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. In the first scene Antigone takes her
sister Ismene outside to the private gates to talk about her brother Polyneices not being able to be
buried. They go back and forth over Antigone s choice to bury their brother. Ismene doesn t want

As Ismene shows her cowardice, insecurity, and selfishness, Antigone s traits of bravery,
confidence and selflessness are highlighted making her seem like the better character. Whereas
Antigone was constantly willing to sacrifice her safety in order to do do what was right for her
brother while Ismene repeatedly tried to bring up options so that she could secure her safety.
Even today, there are people trying to make a difference and do what they think is morally right
just like Antigone, in the face of people like Ismene, who are too worried about the negative
consequences of their actions to do the right thing. Some activists such as Harriet Tubman, Martin
Luther King, and Nelson Mandela, stood up for what they believed in, despite breaking the laws
of their times. If more people took a chance and stood up for what they believed in there would be

How Does Catullus Show Creativity
The human is capable of a plethora of emotions. With such emotions we are capable of
expression that spans across many different forms. This emotional expression is found
throughout history and fully enhanced by creative minds like Edgar Allan Poe, Daniel Dumile,
and Seba Jun. These individuals are professionals at compiling entire masses of their inner
emotions to create works that vividly express what they are experiencing. There are only a
selective few who have been able to reach this level of creativity, and I believe that a specific
Roman deserves to be recognized. Catullus displayed controversial themes in his work proudly,
created art for those he loved, and confronted his adversaries without fear which inspires my
artistic qualities. Catullus was not afraid of what he had to say in his poems. His expression
could take very questionable routes, but he never seemed uncomfortable doing so. When he was
partaking in describing one s purity, he was not scared of making the comparison of an anal cavity
to that of a salt cellar. This uncensored projection displays many ideas on Catullus s character and
his care for societal blockage. Firstly, it shows that he is willing to come out and say the exact
thoughts in his head rather than change it to suit the sensitivities of society. Such... Show more

Most creative minds retaliate in such a way because they feel that the other party doesn t
completely understand the ideals they were attempting to explain. Catullus is no different.
Notably, there is a vulgar poem written by Catullus in which he confronts an opponent in such an
aggressive fashion it left me speechless as the reader. The piece involved calling the adversary a
multitude of severe swears in an attempt to dismiss him. Being an avid listener to many musical
genres, I can appreciate the use of such language as a form of expression and not complete

The Lesson Of The Moth And The Giver
is it better to be a part of beauty / for one instant and then to cease to / exist than to exist forever
/ and never be a part of beauty, (Marquis 34 37). This is the question that can be asked while
reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and the two poems: The Lesson of the Moth by
Don Marquis and Identity by Julio Noboa. The Lesson of the Moth is about a moth who is
attracted to the beauty of an electric light bulb even though it could kill him. Identity is about a
plant who is willing to be flawed and different from the rest of the beautiful, yet ordinary flowers if
it means that it can be independent and have its freedom. The Giver is about a boy named Jonas
who is chosen to hold memories for his community. After receiving these... Show more content on

The theme of The Lesson of the Moth is that beauty comes with sacrifices . An example of this in
the poem is when the speaker says, ...i wish / there was something i wanted / as badly as he
wanted to fry himself (Marquis 51 53). This quote explains the fact that the moth is willing to
fry himself only to experience the beauty of the electric light bulb. The theme of Identity is that
having freedom is more important than acceptance . An example of this theme is on lines 13 15
when the plant states, I d rather be unseen, and if, / then shunned by everyone / than to be a
pleasant smelling flower . This means that the plant cares more about fulfilling its happiness in
life and being free than being another ordinary flower. By reading and analyzing these two
poems, I think that Identity best emulates Jonas s desire for change in his community because
this poem and the story have the theme, having freedom is more important than acceptance .
This theme relates to the Giver as well because in the story, Jonas wants to escape his
community because he he thinks, from receiving memories, that there is something better for
him out in the real world. This relates to the poem, Identity, when it states, To have broken
through the surface of stone / to live, to feel exposed to the madness /of the vast, eternal sky
(Noboa 7 9). This quote from the poem represents both the plant and Jonas s desire to live a free
life. But Jonas still struggles with the idea of escaping because he does not know if he should
choose his freedom and be shunned by his community or if he should stay in his community where
he is safe and honored, but will never have his

I said to my friend, Well, what can I do? They don t allow kangaroos. It should be noted that
Giosue s stubbornness to take a shower helped him endure. In the movie it is expressed that
when the kids are told to take a shower that actually means that they will be taken to and oven

How to Fall Asleep and Stay Asleep With Hypnosis
According to a recent study by Swiss researchers at the University of Fribourg, hypnosis can
improve the quality of your sleep. During the study, the participants spent 66 percent less time
awake and had 80 percent more deep sleep than the control group. While people have recognized
the power of hypnosis for insomnia for years, this is one of the first studies that looked at the
individual s actual brainwaves. Previously, many of the research studies relied on participants to
subjectively report the quality of their sleep.
A Growing Problem
In the United States, the amount of time spent sleeping and engaged in deep sleep is decreasing.
According to the Center for Disease Control, 50 to 70 million Americans have problems with a
sleep disorder like sleep apnea and insomnia. On average, 35 percent of individuals receive less

The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant
union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American
phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern
era and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angelesthat prior was just
a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing
Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city s Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told
the story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial
metropolis that Los Angeles would be through the art decolanguage. Through the fine usage and
mixture of elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two
languages of Art Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a
significant transitional period in LA s history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th
century los angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase
that followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a
common stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city s industry, which included

United States Army Career Analysis
The United States Army is known as the senior and largest branch of the Armed Forces. It
performs land based operations along with assisting other branches of the service. Our modern
army is descended from the Continental Army, which was formed on June 14, 1775 in order to
fight in the Revolutionary War before the United Stateswas an established country. Later, on June 3,
1784, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Armyto replace the dismantled
Continental Army. There are differences of opinions as to when the official birthday of the Army
is. Some consider 1784 as the start of our Army, while others say June 14, 1775 is the official
birthday of the United States Army, ( The United States Army, 2015). I agree with 1775

There are many AIT schools; and at the schools you will get a hands on education and field
instruction to enhance your expertise in the chosen field. I will do AIT at the Engineering
School, because of my chosen job, Combat Engineer, also called Sappers. Sappers are very
important to the success of any Army mission. During the Advanced Individualized Training, as
a Sapper, I will learn a wide variety of engineering skills that may include: bridge building,
structural maintenance, and electrical repair. There are different tasks generally for Combat
Engineers that go with the skills taught including: building and constructing bridges, minefield
clearance and detonation, and any other task requiring the specialized skills,
(www.wood.army.mil/sapper). Sappers sometimes work with other branches to clear a route of
obstacles and rivers for a convoy to pass or ground troops to pass. Detecting the mines will be
done visually as well as with detectors. Sometimes they have to fix floating bridges, so learning to
swim can be important. Also, they construct fighting, obstacle, and defensive positions during
special missions. Combat Engineers primarily supervise and serve or assist as a member of a
team when tackling rough terrain in combat situations. The expertise provides mobility, counter
mobility, survivability, and general engineering duties. To do all the duties I previously
mentioned, you must first take the Armed Services Vocational Battery and get at least an 87. I
made a 99.6, which says I am very adaptable. This test will help you understand your strengths and
identify if Combat Engineering is your right fit. Engineers require additional 14 weeks of One

the rest is in the field on the job training. Training will involve

Persuasive Essay On Why People Should Pay For Their Own Sar
Having your life in danger is something that not many people can imagine. You only get one life
and when it is endangered you panic. By instinct the first thing you do is call for help and hope
that someone comes. But what about the lives of rescuers that come to help. Uncountable
numbers of rangers, firefighters, police, etc. have died trying to save people when there lives are
endangered. On top of that who puts in the money? Rescues can cost thousands of dollars and who
pays for that? You may be surprised but everyone pays for the rescueof people who put themselves
at risk through tax dollars. It isn t fair that we have to give up our hard earned money for the

people won t be afraid to call for help even if they can t afford them but this isn t fair to the

trying to secure an empty litter in high winds when he fell 2,500 feet onto the Winthrop Glacier

acknowledge that because there was little black men had power over, they exerted patriarchal
dominance over their wives. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie experiences the effects of this
and at this point is not strong enough to stand up and assert herself. Logan Killicks, Janie s first

It is understandable that for most of the novel Celie thinks it is not wise to stand up for herself

to pass on to family members or sell upon retirement. Advisors must ensure that business owners
understand the asset protection issues, tax advantages, and estate planning implications for the
entity choice that the client will choose (2014, p.42).
Before making the decision of the business entity, it is important that the client understands the
different aspect of each of the business entities. With this in mind, small business owners and their
advisors should examine the alternatives available (Miller, 2014, p.43). The client needs to be
informed that going from a sole proprietorship to other business entities such as partnership, limited

two or more individuals in an agreement to carry on as a co worker of a business. It is important
that both individuals have a professional and positive relationship in order to accomplish their goal

  • 2. The Fundamental Law Of Nature And Government In this essay I will be arguing that the prerogative is a right that is needed by the executive branch in order to fulfill the fundamental law of nature and government: the preservation of all of its members. So long as the fiduciary grant is meant to achieve this goal it has the right to be exercised at the discretion of its user. This argument will discuss the nature of the prerogative, its necessity, and its justification for use. This will be supported with evidence from Locke s Second Treatise of Government. The prerogative is not an abusive instrument that is meant to subverts the laws society; it is a tool meant to adhere with utmost urgency to the fundamental law of society: doing what is best for the people and their property. It is meant to ensure that not even its own laws can do harm to the citizens it so righteously protects. The enshrinement of this ideal is founded on the social contractall members of civil society enter into when they become a part of society. This contract is created from something as well; the law that governed man in its original state of nature, reason. Locke asserts that man was born into the world in a perfect state of freedom to order his own actions. He is capable of reciprocal jurisdiction without consent from any outside influence. Abiding by the law of nature he came to find that all men were independent and equal by divine will. Since God had created all men they would be his property, and thus all would be held in the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Union Carbide s Bhopal Disaster Union Carbide s Bhopal Disaster In 1984, as if in a nightmare, a cloud of poison gas reached out and snuffed the lives of thousands of people in the sleeping city of Bhopal, India. The residents awoke to a terrible disaster, a chemical explosion whose memory could never be erased. At the center of the tragedy was the Union Carbide pesticide plant, and surrounding the accident were doubts and accusations of negligence and unethical practices. The Disaster On December 3, 1984, one of the world s worst chemical disasters occurred at the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India. Forty tons of vaporous methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas exploded, releasing a toxic mixture of MIC, hydrogen cyanide, monomethyl amine, carbon monoxide, and ... Author David Weir quoted a United Nations official who wished to remain anonymous when he said, Even those companies that say they will maintain the same standards as in the developed world find it difficult to resist the temptation to take a shortcut. Even if they have a good design for their plant, however, there s no good infrastructure in the underdeveloped countries. Even if they put it away from population centers, who will check and control that the people don t come in around it? (Newton Dillingham, 2002, p. 90). Had Union Carbide exercised more responsibility and ethics from the very beginning, perhaps the Bhopal disaster would have been avoided. Preventing Future Disasters The Bhopal accident served as a wake up call for the chemical industry (Lang, 1984, para. 23). In response, the Chemical Manufacturers Association created a program called Responsible CareВ®, the chemical industry s commitment to the continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety and security performance (Overview, 2004, para. 1). Jeff Lipton, chief executive of Nova Chemicals Corp stated, When the average person thinks about chemicals, they think about risks and hazards instead of benefits (Herrick, 2003, para. 9). Responsible CareВ® addresses those concerns by implementing the following practices: (Overview, 2004, para. 2): В• ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Is Social Exchange Theory Important Ever had a friend that used to be so close to but suddenly never see anymore? How many people would you say have left your life, even if they were extremely close to you at some point? It s a fact that not all friendships last forever. One thing I ll always ask myself is, why is it that we stay connected with some people but not with others? According to the Social Exchangetheory, people analyze the benefits and probable risks of social relationships. When the risks exceed the rewards, the individual dismisses that relationship. Social exchange theory studies the reciprocal action between two parties by looking at the costs and benefits to each one of them. The central point of the theory is that it expects that both parties contributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the dissatisfaction of your partner was growing or was at a high level then you must put more effort in the relationship in order to make the relationship less costly for him. Fortutiously Harper s magazine overlooked the short story lamb to the slaughter and published it as soon as possible. Dahl as a childrens book author wanted to demonstrate the ability aspects of human perversity, cruelty, and violence. After his return from war Dahl stories became very dull. • 7. The Separative Self In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar As Plath s novel demonstrates, people often fall victim to their environments. In her article The Separative Self in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Diane S. Bonds explains how The Bell Jar offers a brilliant evocation of the oppressive atmosphere of the 1950s and the soul destroying effect this atmosphere could have on ambitious, high minded young women like Plath (Bonds). Bonds psychologically analyzes Esther s thoughts and actions to understand her mental decline. She makes the claim that Esther is haunted by images suggesting the self mutilations of marriageand motherhood (Bonds). She proves her assertion with the evidence that Esther sees the world as a series of dismembered body parts. Esther cites the goggle eyed headlines (1) staring up at her while walking through New York. She details her friend Doreen s physical characteristics: [she] had bright white hair standing out in cotton candy fluff round her head and blue eyes like transparent agate marbles, hard and polished and just about indestructible (4). When she returns home to Massachusetts, she describes her neighbor, Dodo Conway: Not five feet tall, with a grotesque, protruding stomach (116). In all of these instances, Esther describes human beings through highlighting their body parts; however, she largely compares those parts to inanimate objects. She uses the word eyes to describe a headline, which is lifeless. Furthermore, Bonds explains Esther s repulsion with Dodo s pregnancy: Esther sees Dodo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Controversy Between Theistic Evolution And Religion As Francis Collins stated, Theistic Evolution is the belief that evolution is real, but that it was set in motion by God (Collins). Theistic Evolution does not separate the ideas of Creation and Evolution, and consider them as contrasting ideas. Instead, Theistic Evolution proposes that God s Creation included Evolution. People with this belief argue that Evolution is a part of God s Plan. Instead of interpreting the Bible literally, people of Theistic Evolution belief believe that the Bible should be interpreted loosely, taking only certain amounts the Bible for truth. Theistic Evolution accepts all scientific discoveries, or theories, such as the Big Bang, Evolution, and that the world began millions of years ago. The controversy with Theistic Evolution, is that it is considered to contradict itself, choosing to interpret only some portions of the Bible literally. The problem is that Christians with this belief are accepting Humanistic world views, which contradict and are inconsistent with the Bible and Christian religion. While the book of Genesis states that God created the Earth before the Sun and the Moon, people of the Evolutionist belief say the opposite, claiming that the Sun and the Moon came before the Earth (Mortenson).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One issue, is that if Christians believe that God rested after the six day creation of the Earth, when do people that believe in Theistic Evolution believe He rested? Evolution is an ongoing process, therefore, there has been no time for rest. Theistic Evolutionists are therefore discrediting Genesis and the Word of God (Stewart). Theistic Evolution also contradicts the Creation of Adam. The book of Genesis says that God created Man from the dust. God created Adam, a full human. He did not create a sub human or anything else that developed into Adam, He just created Adam. Theistic Evolution claims that man developed by evolving from a prior ... • 9. Hansen s Disease Hansen s Disease and its Effects on the Homeostasis of Organ Systems Hansen s disease, more commonly known as leprosy, is a chronic infectious disease that affects the skin and peripheral nerves, and to a lesser extent, the respiratory and muscular systems of the body (niaid/nih.giov/diseases conditions/leprosy hansens disease). It is caused by an infection by the bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It was discovered by Dr. Gerhard H.A. Hansen of Norway in 1873. Soon, the disease leprosy became known as Hansen s disease in honor of his discovery. The disease is spread through prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months (cdc.gov). It is important to note that one cannot become infected through casual contact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The muscular system, in conjunction with the skeletal system, is responsible for movement of the body among other things (VanPutte, 270). The ability of the human body to move has been critical in the survival of the species over the years for example; escaping from predators is only possible with skeletal muscle contraction. Hansen s disease generally only affects the peripheral nerves of the extremities, not the locations of the larger muscle groups; however the smaller muscles of the hands and feet are vital for the well being of individuals. For example, it would be quite difficult to feed oneself without the use of hands. Unfortunately, extreme cases of Hansen s disease cause paralysis of the individual s hands and feet. Paralysis occurs due to deadening of the peripheral nerves, both sensory and motor. As the afferent neurons lose the ability to receive and send stimuli, the nerve impulses (action potentials) are sent to the central nervous system less and less often. Even so, the action potentials that are transmitted to the CNS still are unlikely to stimulate the skeletal muscles for contraction. This is because the efferent peripheral neurons of the hands and feet are damaged as well. In effect, the sensory nerves of the extremities cannot receive much stimuli, and the motor neurons are also less able to start the action potentials in the skeletal muscle ... Recognizing organizational and technical aspects of the EHR is crucial matter because those factors affect the outcome of the implementation directly and indirectly. The culture of an organization and its structure, the building block of the organization (infrastructure), money, management, and human skills play a major role in the implementation phase of EHRs in an acute care setting (Boonstra, Versluis, Vos, 2014). We will mainly focus our discussion on the effects the financial crisis had on Canada and the U.S and examine why both countries were affected differently. Although the collapse of the housing bubble is the most identifiable cause, it is extremely difficult to pinpoint one specific defining moment or event triggering the global financial collapse. Vary rarely do a white collar criminal ever face a life sentence for the thousands upon thousands of dollars they have cost a company and members of society. Compare and Contrast Penalties Many of the judicial systems in the United States look at white collar crimes as being non violent. This in turn causes those involved in white collar criminal activity to face lesser sentences than a person that robbed a bank which could easily face up to twenty five years in prison; yet they did not acquire as much money as one that was involved in white collar criminal activity. In fact, it would be more appropriate for the criminal justice system to determine what degree of aggression was perpetrated by the offender against the victim to assess harm (Perri, J.D., CFE, CPA, 2011, p. 23). By doing this, punishments for white collar criminals would change. The penalties should be very similar to robbery and burglary since all typically involve money that is taken,; especially in financial robbery and burglary. White collar criminals should even be able to face the same penalties as someone charged with assault. The white collar criminal may not have inflicted physical damage, but did hurt the victim mentally. On the other hand, white collar criminals should not face the penalties as some who has taken a life. Even though the victim may seem like their life is over, but it can be rebuilt. ... • 20. The Importance Of Light Energy Exam 1 Yuvicela Cortes K000700980 (yuvicortes88@gmail.com) login: panda Question 1 Have you ever thought what Earth would be like without light energy? So many questions come to mind when we think about light. What is light energy and how is it measured? How fast does light travel? Light is referred as an electromagnetic radiation and its nature s way of transferring energy. Without light, there is no energy and without this energy we would not have the ability to survive. There are many sources of energy but light is one of the most important because it provides energy to all living things here on Earth. The sunlight we get from the sun is absorbed by the earth s atmosphere which in return is then changed to heat energy. This heat energy is what helps keep our earth warm (sometimes a little too warm for my taste). All living things rely on light energy to survive. Some animals rely on it to keep themselves warm, plants rely on the suns energy and convert the sunlight into food energy through a process called photosynthesis. Humans use light for vision primarily because we use our sight to learn about the world around us, it is a force that enables us to see. We use light to light our homes, to grow our crops which eventually we use to eat. Light is all around us no matter where we go and it travels at 186,282 miles per second. If you can t get an idea of just how fast light travels just imagine this, you could travel 7.5 times around our planet Earth in just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author, the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations. During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. Active learning includes four elements: the person itself, the active learning group, the respective problems and the measures taken in order to solve the problems which allow learning. The set of values that organizations work with and which constitutes the subject of learning is a complex one and has determined theoreticians to establish conceptual hierarchies of knowledge. The model of the five levels 15 that we present below reflects the progressive accumulation of the value of the data as they turn into competencies (see figure 1). Therefore, it is obvious that the data are a priori than isolated elements. When elements are placed into context and combined within a structure, the information acquires higher values. The information acquires new meanings by interpretations and assimilations, thus turning into knowledge. Analysis Of The Play A Doll s House The period of the nineteenth century until the twentieth century was viewed as a patriarchal male society and female dependence; women had to obey men because in most cases men held all the resources and women had no independent means of subsistence. Although, women were supposed to be treated with respect by men, most men viewed women as weak and having no ability to perform any task. In the play A Doll s House the character Nora shows how these expectations affect her behavior which reflect her desire to change the traditional genderroles in the demanding society she was obligated to adhere to. When a couple got married in this period her property was now her husband s and as a result, married women were barred from making contracts, appearing as witnesses in court, and initiating lawsuits. Nora like the wives of her time had to subject to her husband and Nora is often treated as a superior servant not as an equal; therefore, she lives without self identity and gender equality. This is the question that can be asked while reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and the two poems: The Lesson of the Moth by Don Marquis and Identity by Julio Noboa. The Lesson of the Moth is about a moth who is attracted to the beauty of an electric light bulb even though it could kill him. The theme of The Lesson of the Moth is that beauty comes with sacrifices . An example of this in the poem is when the speaker says, ...i wish / there was something i wanted / as badly as he wanted to fry himself (Marquis 51 53). This quote explains the fact that the moth is willing to fry himself only to experience the beauty of the electric light bulb. The theme of Identity is that having freedom is more important than acceptance . An example of this theme is on lines 13 15 when the plant states, I d rather be unseen, and if, / then shunned by everyone / than to be a pleasant smelling flower . This means that the plant cares more about fulfilling its happiness in life and being free than being another ordinary flower. By reading and analyzing these two poems, I think that Identity best emulates Jonas s desire for change in his community because this poem and the story have the theme, having freedom is more important than acceptance . This theme relates to the Giver as well because in the story, Jonas wants to escape his community because he he thinks, from receiving memories, that there is something better for him out in the real world. This relates to the poem, Identity, when it states, To have broken through the surface of stone / to live, to feel exposed to the madness /of the vast, eternal sky (Noboa 7 9). This quote from the poem represents both the plant and Jonas s desire to live a free life.
