Second Intifada
In the second Intifada, which lasted from 2000 to 2005, Palestinians were shown regularly to be
appearing in a variety of new roles. Israeli journalists, in both the electronic and the printed press,
conducted interviews on a regular basis with political leaders, ordinary people, and even terrorists.
(Liebes Kampf, 2009) what happened to the reasons listed above as to why Israeli media did not shed
much light on Palestinians. It went from protecting the public from seeing death to now interviewing
so called terrorists . This is a drastic change from what was seen in the 1st intifada. The authors talk
about their reasons as to why these changes took place. Among these reasons is the easy access to
photo and video technologies, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been certain periods where it would vary throughout the decade but generally, it was more
balanced. When the first intifada started in 1987, the author claimed that up towards end of 2001,
coverage was increasingly becoming pro Israeli. Specifically, the newspaper has used a higher
percentage of Israeli sources and more Israeli end quotes and personalized Israeli deaths more than
Palestinian deaths. (Elmasry, 2010). The author goes on to discuss the methods used by news articles
that make them pro Israeli rather than balanced. Among those reasons is the old self defence claims.
Another reason used is claiming it was an accident . An example of this is The Israeli army attacked a
Palestinian militia leader with a helicopter gunship Thursday, missing him but killing two others.
(Dellios, 2001) another more recent example occurred during the 2014 war on Gaza when the Israeli
military launched missiles on a beach killing 4 boys who were playing soccer. The boys were killed in
full view of a hotel filled with foreign correspondents reporting on the conflict, which led to
harrowing first hand accounts of the attack. (2015) the author spends a portion of the paper talking
about the justification news articles use to legitimize Israel s actions but that will be covered in the

George Orwell 1984 Essay
1984 Final Paper
It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within
range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is
from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to
always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since
they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships
are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today.
Orwell provides pieces of absolute power in the book to show readers that many people are afraid of
what might happen if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today
people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is
what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means
that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of
only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for
including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to
come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were
living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure
that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as
an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always
have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to
make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly
advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see
whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. The author is

Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge
The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat
system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as
being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which
are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds
traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found
at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake
National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also
serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of
1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain
on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds
that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a
result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses
were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on

Examples Of Literature In Boys And Girls
An Awakening One awakening stage in a person s life is the stage between being a child and being an
adult. When an author writes about this stage it can be referred to as coming of age literature:
literature that follows the life of a person as he or she shifts from adolescence to young adulthood and
discovers who he or she is while seeing the world around him or her differently. These coming of age
narratives look back at the time of a youth when he or she is influenced by his or her family, mentors,
friends, peers, relationships, and community, all of which help shape the youth into the person they
will one day become. And, coming of age literature are narratives which contain similar
characteristics; such as, innocence of the world s expectations, life that seems simple as a child but
more complex the older one becomes, the disappointment of discovering life is not as black and white
as one has perceived, tension between family members or peers, conflicts within oneself as
understanding of the world changes, wisdom as one ages, and acceptance and realization that the adult
world is complex and difficult. In the short story Boys and Girls, Alice Munro successfully explores
the protagonist innocence of the world s stereotypes, conflict between who she ... Show more content

Pinnacle Of Selfishness Essay
All humans are selfish on instinct, the will to survive being an innate trait all humans are born with,
but most people don t give this selfishness a second thought despite having the brain power to do so. It
has become so natural for people to act based on their own personal interests that someone who
observes more than acts can see the consequences that come with that way of living. In my life I
observe far too many people around me making selfish decisions to only benefit themselves. I can
willingly admit I m not the pinnacle of selflessness either, since selfishness is a survival mechanism
that is deeply ingrained in the human DNA, but I spare people second thoughts and glances. I instill
deep emotional value and strive towards being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have never been in any kind of high school dating relationships. Most of the reasons I have not been
are unrelated to the topic, but the topic is the most influential reason of all. Most people have been told
to let something go if you love it, and most people fail to do so because of selfishness. My other peers
pursue their interests even when met with limited or mass amounts of resistance. These peers are
among the most selfish in my mind because they refuse to let something they love go even if that
person is not happy with them. On the other hand, I take this rule a little too seriously. I am not the
type of teenager who calls something love only to disregard it a month or two later. Generally, my
nature is very caring and selfless and can be easily taken advantage of without the façade I equip to
protect my emotions. In short, when I care for someone it is a deep attachment with multiple layers.
So, in theory I should be fighting for the people I m interested in approximately twice as hard as my
peers duel for mere emotional playthings. This is not the case, oftentimes my interests have no interest
in me. I could fight for them or push for their attention but I allow them to be happy with others.
Seeing a smile on a person s face and knowing they re happy is a great reward. My place is off to the
side, willing to do almost anything I can to make this

Personal Expectations In Great Expectations
It s a terrible, Joe; it ain t true... I don t know what possessed me, Joe... but I wish you hadn t taught
me to call knaves at cards jacks, and I wish my boots weren t so thick nor my hands so coarse
(Dickens 694). COMMENTS: Throughout this entire scene, Pip explains to Joe why he lied to Mrs.
Joe and Mr. Pumblechook. In this part, Pip feels terrible about his common life and wish he had a
greater one. This is a defining and moment in Pip s life because until now Pip thought his life would
amount to nothing. Then, Joe explains he is extraordinary and Pip believes it, and thrives to do better
in the next chapter. He stirred his rum and water pointedly at me, and he tasted his rum and water
pointedly at me not with a spoon that was brought to him, but with a file... I knew it was Joe s file
(Dickens 697). CONFUSING: During this part of the chapter, the stranger sits and drinks with Pip and
Joe. While this goes on the stranger pulls out the file Pip stole from Joe and gave to the convict. While
at first, this seems bold and unnerving. Then, it begins to stir up a few questions. Why did the stranger
have the file, when Pip gave the file to the convict he ran off a few minutes later to catch the second
convict. So this part was confusing, when did the first convict ever get the chance to talk to the
stranger, let alone give him Joe s stolen file. His head was all on one side, and one of his eyes was half

How Does Chaucer Use Clothing In Literature
Chaucer s Use of Clothing: an Effective Rhetorical Device
In Literature, as in real life, characters are sometimes judged by their appearance. The description of
clothing provides detail and comment on those wearing them. Chaucer s uses of artifice in The
Canterbury Tales function as gauges of the social status and economic wealth, and emotional
condition of each pilgrim. Artifice effectively provides a badge of humanity, symbolic of each
character s fallibility. Yet clothing simultaneously imposes upon the characters literary stereotypes,
which they consequentially adopt. Unable to transcend these ascribed roles, the pilgrims sometimes
find themselves bound by literary stereotypes and narrative function, which they tend to fulfill ...

Topic Sentences and Supporting Paragraphs
Topic Sentences
When you write, you form paragraphs. A paragraph is a group of sentences that relate in topic and
thought. A paragraph generally consists of three to five sentences and usually begins with a topic
sentence. A topic sentence is a general statement that announces what the paragraph is about. By
starting a paragraph with a topic sentence, your audience may immediately identify your topic. This
construction also helps you, the writer, stay focused on your subject.

Human Life Does Not Begin At Conception
Regularly the action is pondered; Which is worse, Risa often wondered, to have tens of thousands of
babies that no one wanted or to silently make them go away before they were born? (Shusterman 115)
Accounts of rape, incest, health issues, accident, ill will towards a partner, and poverty are common
reasons for women to consider and ultimately follow through with the act of abortion. What happens
to the children whom are bred into these sorts of predicaments that are not at all terminated?
According to 2015 statistics by the U.S. Department of Justice, 48,425 children are in foster care. Of
those 48,425, seventy four percent are being held in U.S. prisons. Within two years of Age out fifty
percent are incarcerated, and eighty percent of former foster youth are on Death Row. Human life does
not begin at conception due to brain development beginnings starting only at three to four weeks after
conception according to top U.S. Neurologists and under the above listed circumstances, a child
would, in reality, be better off being aborted than being moved from home to home or even being an
unbearable psychological and financial weight on the shoulders of those who follow through with
taking on a parental role responsibility. The debate of whether life begins at conception or after birth is
an age old argument. In fact the reason for the debate is because it has not been proven that life
absolutely begins at conception. There has never been a scientific consensus as to

Essay about Mexicos Economy An Politics In 19th Century
Civil war had destroyed both social stability and the economy. Also, few people had enough political
experience to bind Mexico together. The first constitution, spread in 1824, giving state legislators the
power to elect both the president and the vice president. A result of this constitution, caused a series of
weak presidents struggled to form an effective government.
During this time, Mexico s political elite began to divide into two opposing factions: conservatives
and liberals. The conservatives favored a highly centralized government and wanted to maintain the
Catholic Church s power and control of educational facilities.
The liberals wanted a federation of states that was not strictly controlled by a central government.

troops occupied much of northern Mexico by the end of the year. Mexico City fell on September 14,
1847, and Mexican forces surrendered soon thereafter. The Río Grande was fixed as the southern
boundary of Texas. Territory, which now forms the states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona,
Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming, became part of the United States.
Liberal rebel leader Juan Álvarez became the provisional president of Mexico. The 1855 takeover of
the government by the liberals began a period known as La Reforma, in which liberal leaders sought
to reduce the power of the church and the military in Mexican politics and society. Later that year
Ignacio Comonfort, a liberal who sought a more gradual pace of reform, replaced President Álvarez.
In 1857 the liberals enacted a new constitution, which reestablished a federal form of government. It
provided for individual rights, universal male suffrage, freedom of speech, and other civil liberties.
The constitution also abolished special courts for members of the military or clergy, and ordered the
church and other institutions to auction off any land or buildings not absolutely necessary for their
operation.
Conservative groups bitterly opposed the new constitution. In 1858 a political revolt overthrew
President Comonfort and Juárez became provisional president. Soon afterward conservatives who had
participated in the revolt forced Juárez to flee Mexico City; he established a new seat of government

Essay on Agriculture in India
Agriculture
Agriculture, also called farming or husbandry, is the cultivation of animals, plants, fungi, and other
life forms for food, fiber, biofuel and other products used to sustain human life.
Agriculture in India has a significant history. Today, India ranks second worldwide in farm output.
Agriculture and allied sectors like forestry andfisheries accounted for 16.6% of the GDP in 2009,
about 50% of the total workforce.[1] The economic contribution of agriculture to India s GDP is

Indian population has tripled, but food grain production more than quadrupled: there has thus been
substantial increase in available food grain per capita.
Prior to the mid 1960s India relied on imports and food aid to meet domestic requirements. However,
two years of severe drought in 1965 and 1966 convinced India to reform its agricultural policy, and
that India could not rely on foreign aid and foreign imports for food security. India adopted significant
policy reforms focused on the goal of foodgrain self sufficiency. This ushered in India sGreen
Revolution. It began with the decision to adopt superior yielding, disease resistant wheat varieties in
combination with better farming knowledge to improve productivity. The Indian state ofPunjab led
India s green revolution and earned itself the distinction of being the country s bread basket.[41]
The initial increase in production was centred on the irrigated areas of the Indian states of Punjab,
Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh. With both the farmers and the government officials focusing on
farm productivity and knowledge transfer, India s total foodgrain production soared. A hectare of
Indian wheat farms that produced an average of 0.8 tons in 1948, produced 4.7 tons of wheat in 1975
from the same land. Such rapid growths in farm productivity enabled India to become self sufficient
by the 1970s. It also empowered the smallholder farmers to seek further means to increase food
staples

Defining Normative And Subjective Culture
We are all defined, and heavily influenced by, the culture in which we have grown and adopted.
Culture is defined as the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation,
people, or other social group , according to The Oxford Dictionary, and can be separated into two
specific classifications known as normative and subjective culture. Normative culture is the
connecting beliefs, values, tradition, economy, political and social institutions, artistic expressions and
collective history of various interacting groups of people . Subjective culture, however, represents a
society s characteristic way of perceiving its social environment . My personal culture is emphasized
by five categories of subjective culture, including nationality, regional identity, education,
social/economic class, and age. Growing up as an American has shaped the culture with which I
identify. Nationality, according to The Law Dictionary, is that quality or character which arises from
the fact of a person s belonging to a nation or state. Nationality determines the political status of the
individual, especially with reference to allegiance; while domicile determines his civil status.
Nationality arises either by birth or by naturalization. Because The United States is so diverse, its
citizens, including myself, are exposed to many different cultures which expand our enculturation, the
process by which an individual learns the traditional content of a culture and

Exploratory Paper
Before beginning the quantitative research report, we had to had complete an exploratory research
report. This was necessary as it allowed us to see trends in relation to healthy eating. The exploratory
research mainly consisted of qualitative questions as we wanted to see if there was any relationship
between a cupcake and a chicken and spinach sandwich. After analyzing the results of the survey, we
were able to get a better insight of the perceptions and preferences that consumers have when it comes
to eating and purchasing healthy food.
Some of the more interesting things that we gained from reviewing the survey results was that
consumers would rather eat a chicken and spinach sandwich over a cupcake. The main reasons for this
was that a chicken and spinach sandwich would not only count as a proper meal but it s also a
healthier option than the cupcake. Another interesting thing that we found was that consumers feel as
though it is more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat unhealthy. In the end, the most interesting
thing that we found from the survey was that consumers were divided on the fact that organic food
was a healthier option as compared to non organic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

research question and hypothesis relates to healthy eating as it illustrates how some consumers feel
eating organic food is heathier, while some consumers feel that eating organic food isn t any healthier

Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Sexual Violence on College Campuses Among female college students, 23% said they experienced
some form of unwanted sexual contact ranging from kissing, to touching, to rape. All of these females
said it was carried out by force or threat of force, or while they were incapacitated because of alcohol
or drugs. This data was collected from a survey taken by 150,000 students from 27 different
Universities. (Wallace, Kelley, 2105) Sexual assault is sexual contact or behavior that happens without

This solution to the problem will essentially cost little to no money for the colleges. The only thing
they would have to do is put this information into their student handbook. If someone disobeys the
policy, a legal action will take place and the police will then become involved. If colleges implement
this it will make this rising issue come to a stop since further punishment will take place if there is an
incident against the policy. There are now over 800 colleges that use affirmative consent standard in
sexual assault policies. In California, Governor Jerry Brown, signed legislation requiring colleges in
the state to adopt sexual assault policies that shifted the burden of proof in campus sexual assault cases
from those accusing to the accused. Consent is now an affirmative, unambiguous, and conscious
decision by each participant to engage in mutually agreed upon sexual activity. (New, Jake, 2014) The
consent has to be ongoing throughout any sexual encounter. On California campuses, consent is no
longer a matter of not struggling or not saying no. If the student initiating the sexual encounter doesn t
receive an enthusiastic yes, either verbally or physically, then there is no consent. If the student is
incapacitated due to drugs or alcohol, there is no consent. California is the first state to make such a
definition of consent law, but other states may soon follow suit. In New Hampshire and

New Issue Of New Federalism
New Federalism is known as commitment to returning powers to the state governments. Proposed by
President Ronald Reagan, who believed federal grants were just a scandal of imposing the federal
interests on the states. Reagan believed that federal government would allow a more efficient
government within the states and the nation. This reminded America of the main point now of the 10th
amendment that because the states are created under the the federal government, it should work for the
states, and not be overpowered. New Federalism is also known as Competitive Federalism due
consent struggle of the national and local government trying to be equal. Many states liked the idea of
New Federalism because new grants were given to states with less restrictions and states and they
were given a choice on how to spend these grants. With this concept, many laws were made in order to
enforce this New Federalism: the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995 disallowed Congress from
passing federal programs or services without consulting states on how they would be funded. The
Devolution Revolution in 1994, a movement led by former House Representative, Newt Gingrich, and
by republicans who desired to scale back the federal government though campaigning. Overall with

Gnosticism s manifestation in our dismal eschatology rather than adopting the early Church s hope for
the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, the masses aspire to an ethereal bliss in
a heavenly beyond.
This misguided eschatology is merely a new form of an old Gnostic influence that has perennially
plagued Christian theology. The Church Fathers had to fight against Docetism the heretical belief that
Christ only appeared to be human, but was in fact merely a spirit or celestial being. Along with
Arianism and Nestorianism, these three heretical doctrines constituted ... Show more content on

For if we hold the conviction that the Bible s claims can only be true if they are in accord with history

A Christological Rethinking of the Virgin Birth
Even if there is a theo political basis for claiming Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, this does not
mean that it is necessarily wrong. As mentioned above, it s even attested to in the Nicene Creed. But
what if there were a Christological reason for calling the virgin birth into question?
On the one hand, virgin birth theology has often served as a helpful explanatory tool for adherents to
what is commonly called two nature Christology the idea that Jesus was both fully God and fully
human. In a way (though I ve always thought it bore the stench of Nestorianism), it allowed
theologians the explanatory power to say how it was that the one person of Jesus was constituted by
two separate natures divine and human. But in the early Church s battle to stave off Arianism and
those who rejected the full divinity of Christ, virgin birth theology was a crucial

Porgy And Bess Sparknotes
Porgy and Bess is a play written by three Caucasian men. The play was written in the 1920s 1930s.
Around this time racism was strong as ever. White people already didn t think much of us. It took
place in a small town in South Carolina called Catfish Row. The apartments sat close to a beach.
Throughout the play, there was plenty of ways that portrayed African American in a negative way.
Porgy and Bess is the epitome of how Caucasians thought of African Americans and the way we live.
Throughout my paper I m going to express how white people judged African Americans, Where did
Porgy and Bess come from, and The names of the characters and how degrading the authors are
making African Americans out to be. The names of the characters go a long way. Some of their names
have meaning to them, the meaning of their names are literally the role they play. And the time the
play was written.
Gershwin labeled the play as a folk opera. It was written in the year of 1935 by a Jewish man. Which
makes it interesting to study the kind of impact it had on the African Americans at that time. Gershwin

Domestic Violence Against Immigrant And Refugee Women
4. How can Canada protect and welcome refugees and newcomers? How can domestic violence
against immigrant and refugee women be prevented? Some of the ways Canada can protect and
welcome and protect refugees by; Making the status in Canada secure This means that Canada should
make permanent residency open to all including migrant workers. They should not restrict the
Permanent Residency to only those coming for high wage jobs. There should be a legislation and
enforcement to protect them effectively. The migrant workers should also be empowered so that they
can access to information and different services useful to them and access to justice. Permanent
Residency should also be opened to persons who have been trafficked. The law should provide
adequate protection to all trafficked persons so that they apply temporary resident permits, Can make
refugee claims and can file their application for humanitarian and compassionate consideration.
Canada should have broad, inclusive and effective refugee resettlement program The government

The Tortilla Curtain Character Analysis
Reading more into part two of The Tortilla Curtain, the character that I chose to still analyze, and find
more facts about, who s personality trait stood out even more to me was Kyra. We can determine these
traits by the actions that are described that the character took in the situation that impacted her in some
way. Another thing I noticed was that Kyra expresses particular values on many occasions and at
points. Because the character expresses these particular values, I was able to ask the question why the
character says or does a certain thing and those also lead to the speculations about the causes of
behavior, its motivation, if the character goes through significant changes and its effects. In part two I
noticed that Kyra s old habits seem to still be with her, after thinking that it will change at the end of
part one. For example what made me notice Kyra s old habits was when Delaney was meeting Kyra
for a lunch date after he got back from the dealership and as usual, she was really busy with work and
she orders food already. She rushes there lunch, they had so she can get back to work, she had to close
a property and then she had to go because she had the fence around their house risen up two feet so it
will help keep the coyotes out. Before going back to work she also wanted to go look for a new car.
So, you get a sense of her old ways of Kyra being a workaholic and her work comes first before
everything or it s the most important. It s more important than

The Role Of Leadership In The 1980 s
America during the 1980 s experienced a time of immense progression and prosperity. The 1980 s saw
a boom in economic success because of the newly Reaganomics. MTV and music videos sparked a
new wave pop culture for the youth and the many new TV stations opened up a whole new world for
all generations. The leadership of the country saw positive steps forward from the past mistrust and
failures of the presidents of old and this better leadership carried to country forward through the
decade. All throughout the 1980 s there was a flood of young men straight out of high school toward
Wall Street. These men were called yuppies and the reason as to why they were all trying to make it

Was Prohibition Wrong
Prohibition was aptly termed the Noble Experiment and it resulted in an increased prison population,
along with massive black market crime. For example, the homicide rate reached a record level in 1933
and it is no coincidence that the homicide rate didn t surpass that level until 1974 when Nixon
intensified the drug war. In addition, roughly half of the prison population in 1930 was there for
alcohol related offenses. Likewise, roughly half of the inmates in federal prison are now serving drug
sentences. As a result, the court system is drowning with cases. However, there is a precedent.
Prohibition marked the first time in American history when the sheer number of cases forced judges to

Cloud Storage For The Field Of Pre Construction
Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is one of the important application of mobile technology. Cloud storage can be
described as a service, which allows you to manage and maintain the data remotely. Cloud storage
allows you to save your files online, so that you can access it from anywhere in the world with the
help of internet. Additionally, cloud storage syncs the data making sure that all the devices contain the
same data. Any project manager knows how difficult it is to have access to current information and
many conflicts can be avoided if the same information is available to all the parties in the project.
Another important use of cloud storage is in the field of Pre Construction. For example, Cloud Takeoff
is an application which allows the estimators to perform digital takeoffs on any platforms, from
windows or Mac or IOS or Android. Since these takeoffs are present in cloud, users can collaborate on
the documents using different devices. Cloud Takeoff can do tasks which can previously be performed
on programs like Onscreen takeoff. Cloud takeoff helps in preparing more accurate bids than the bids
produced by PC based software by increasing collaboration between the parties involved. There are
many applications available which provides cloud storage. Some of the examples are Dropbox,

So, if that is the general consensus among the British then tea is about to be stock piled in tea drinking
countries because there is going to be a huge sale. I know there will not be enough tea drinkers in
these countries to keep the cost of tea at its current price. There are obese people all over the world
who want to lose weight and even skinny people want to stay skinny. As we have seen, when either
the demand or the supply curve shifts, the results are unambiguous; that is, we know what will happen
to both equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity, so long as we know whether demand or supply
increased or decrease. However, in practice, several events may occur at around the same time that
cause both the demand and supply curves to shift in the same direction or opposite directions (CITE).

A capital gain or loss is basically the difference between the what is the cost to acquire an asset and

Universal Ethical Egoism
Ethical Egoism is one of the most controversial theories in all of Moral Philosophy having received
both bitter criticism and high praise from philosophers of all stripes. While it was a prevalent topic in
the mid to late 19th century, Ethical Egoism is rarely discussed today. This lack of contemporary
relevance stems from a series of formidable criticisms which gave opponents of Ethical Egoism an
apparent victory over its proponents. For the most part, however, these opponents have failed to
account for egoism s complexities; whereas there are multiple versions of Ethical Egoism, opponents
usually argue against a very narrow, general conception. Thus, in the following essay, I claim that the
argument is all but won by demonstrating that these criticisms are not as strong as they appear. I will

He emphasizes that although the West is still strong and growing in many areas, other civilizations are
growing at a faster rate. Asian civilizations are booming both economically and in their military
strength and the Muslim culture is spreading demographically, while the West is becoming
increasingly preoccupied with its own internal problems such as crime, government deficits, drug
abuse, and a declining work ethic. Huntington uses graphs and charts very effectively in this section of
his book to visually depict the decline of the West s population, territory, and economic influence.
Also in this section, the concept of modernization vs. Westernization is discussed. Many cultures
desire to become modern, but without the negative trappings of Western civilization such as the
perceived lack of morals and weak work ethic of Westerners, and the primarily Western concept of the
separation between church and state. Modernization was once equated with Westernization but,
according to Huntington, this is now not always the case. His examples include the Japanese and
Islamic cultures. In Japan there has been a return to traditional Asian culture due to the prevailing

  • 2. Second Intifada In the second Intifada, which lasted from 2000 to 2005, Palestinians were shown regularly to be appearing in a variety of new roles. Israeli journalists, in both the electronic and the printed press, conducted interviews on a regular basis with political leaders, ordinary people, and even terrorists. (Liebes Kampf, 2009) what happened to the reasons listed above as to why Israeli media did not shed much light on Palestinians. It went from protecting the public from seeing death to now interviewing so called terrorists . This is a drastic change from what was seen in the 1st intifada. The authors talk about their reasons as to why these changes took place. Among these reasons is the easy access to photo and video technologies, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been certain periods where it would vary throughout the decade but generally, it was more balanced. When the first intifada started in 1987, the author claimed that up towards end of 2001, coverage was increasingly becoming pro Israeli. Specifically, the newspaper has used a higher percentage of Israeli sources and more Israeli end quotes and personalized Israeli deaths more than Palestinian deaths. (Elmasry, 2010). The author goes on to discuss the methods used by news articles that make them pro Israeli rather than balanced. Among those reasons is the old self defence claims. Another reason used is claiming it was an accident . An example of this is The Israeli army attacked a Palestinian militia leader with a helicopter gunship Thursday, missing him but killing two others. (Dellios, 2001) another more recent example occurred during the 2014 war on Gaza when the Israeli military launched missiles on a beach killing 4 boys who were playing soccer. The boys were killed in full view of a hotel filled with foreign correspondents reporting on the conflict, which led to harrowing first hand accounts of the attack. (2015) the author spends a portion of the paper talking about the justification news articles use to legitimize Israel s actions but that will be covered in the final ... • 3. George Orwell 1984 Essay 1984 Final Paper It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today. Orwell provides pieces of absolute power in the book to show readers that many people are afraid of what might happen if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. • 4. Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge The wildlife refuge complex in the Klamath River Basin is part of a migratory bird wetland habitat system that spans the western seaboard. Wilson (2010) refers to the Pacific Coast wetland habitats as being like links in a chain that lead birds from wintering grounds to summer breeding habitats, which are only effective if each one remains intact(p. 7). It is estimated that three quarters of the birds traveling through this chain make a stop in the Klamath Basin, and roughly half of those can be found at Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northern California (Foster 2008 ;Wilson 2010 ). Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge and it s neighbor Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) also serve as sources of farmland for local farmers, who are able to lease lands under the Kuchel Act of 1964 (Kuchel Act 1964). If there is water left over from irrigating farmland, it is allocated to remain on the refuges to provide wetland habitat for birds. Water scarcity has posed a serious threat to birds that use the refuges. In 2012, avian cholera killed more than 10,00 birds in the Klamath refuges, a result of overcrowding in scarce pools of water. In 2014 an average of 100 infected bird carcasses were discovered a day during the summer months(Jarrell 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Examples Of Literature In Boys And Girls An Awakening One awakening stage in a person s life is the stage between being a child and being an adult. When an author writes about this stage it can be referred to as coming of age literature: literature that follows the life of a person as he or she shifts from adolescence to young adulthood and discovers who he or she is while seeing the world around him or her differently. These coming of age narratives look back at the time of a youth when he or she is influenced by his or her family, mentors, friends, peers, relationships, and community, all of which help shape the youth into the person they will one day become. And, coming of age literature are narratives which contain similar characteristics; such as, innocence of the world s expectations, life that seems simple as a child but more complex the older one becomes, the disappointment of discovering life is not as black and white as one has perceived, tension between family members or peers, conflicts within oneself as understanding of the world changes, wisdom as one ages, and acceptance and realization that the adult world is complex and difficult. In the short story Boys and Girls, Alice Munro successfully explores the protagonist innocence of the world s stereotypes, conflict between who she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Pinnacle Of Selfishness Essay All humans are selfish on instinct, the will to survive being an innate trait all humans are born with, but most people don t give this selfishness a second thought despite having the brain power to do so. It has become so natural for people to act based on their own personal interests that someone who observes more than acts can see the consequences that come with that way of living. In my life I observe far too many people around me making selfish decisions to only benefit themselves. I can willingly admit I m not the pinnacle of selflessness either, since selfishness is a survival mechanism that is deeply ingrained in the human DNA, but I spare people second thoughts and glances. I instill deep emotional value and strive towards being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have never been in any kind of high school dating relationships. Most of the reasons I have not been are unrelated to the topic, but the topic is the most influential reason of all. Most people have been told to let something go if you love it, and most people fail to do so because of selfishness. My other peers pursue their interests even when met with limited or mass amounts of resistance. These peers are among the most selfish in my mind because they refuse to let something they love go even if that person is not happy with them. On the other hand, I take this rule a little too seriously. I am not the type of teenager who calls something love only to disregard it a month or two later. Generally, my nature is very caring and selfless and can be easily taken advantage of without the façade I equip to protect my emotions. In short, when I care for someone it is a deep attachment with multiple layers. So, in theory I should be fighting for the people I m interested in approximately twice as hard as my peers duel for mere emotional playthings. This is not the case, oftentimes my interests have no interest in me. I could fight for them or push for their attention but I allow them to be happy with others. I don t know what possessed me, Joe... but I wish you hadn t taught me to call knaves at cards jacks, and I wish my boots weren t so thick nor my hands so coarse (Dickens 694). COMMENTS: Throughout this entire scene, Pip explains to Joe why he lied to Mrs. Joe and Mr. Pumblechook. In this part, Pip feels terrible about his common life and wish he had a greater one. This is a defining and moment in Pip s life because until now Pip thought his life would amount to nothing. Then, Joe explains he is extraordinary and Pip believes it, and thrives to do better in the next chapter. He stirred his rum and water pointedly at me, and he tasted his rum and water pointedly at me not with a spoon that was brought to him, but with a file... I knew it was Joe s file (Dickens 697). CONFUSING: During this part of the chapter, the stranger sits and drinks with Pip and Joe. While this goes on the stranger pulls out the file Pip stole from Joe and gave to the convict. While at first, this seems bold and unnerving. Then, it begins to stir up a few questions. Why did the stranger have the file, when Pip gave the file to the convict he ran off a few minutes later to catch the second convict. So this part was confusing, when did the first convict ever get the chance to talk to the stranger, let alone give him Joe s stolen file. The Indian state ofPunjab led India s green revolution and earned itself the distinction of being the country s bread basket.[41] The initial increase in production was centred on the irrigated areas of the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh. This was necessary as it allowed us to see trends in relation to healthy eating. The exploratory research mainly consisted of qualitative questions as we wanted to see if there was any relationship between a cupcake and a chicken and spinach sandwich. After analyzing the results of the survey, we were able to get a better insight of the perceptions and preferences that consumers have when it comes to eating and purchasing healthy food. Some of the more interesting things that we gained from reviewing the survey results was that consumers would rather eat a chicken and spinach sandwich over a cupcake. The main reasons for this was that a chicken and spinach sandwich would not only count as a proper meal but it s also a healthier option than the cupcake. Another interesting thing that we found was that consumers feel as though it is more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat unhealthy. • 40. Universal Ethical Egoism Ethical Egoism is one of the most controversial theories in all of Moral Philosophy having received both bitter criticism and high praise from philosophers of all stripes. While it was a prevalent topic in the mid to late 19th century, Ethical Egoism is rarely discussed today. This lack of contemporary relevance stems from a series of formidable criticisms which gave opponents of Ethical Egoism an apparent victory over its proponents. For the most part, however, these opponents have failed to account for egoism s complexities; whereas there are multiple versions of Ethical Egoism, opponents usually argue against a very narrow, general conception. Thus, in the following essay, I claim that the argument is all but won by demonstrating that these criticisms are not as strong as they appear. Asian civilizations are booming both economically and in their military strength and the Muslim culture is spreading demographically, while the West is becoming increasingly preoccupied with its own internal problems such as crime, government deficits, drug abuse, and a declining work ethic. Huntington uses graphs and charts very effectively in this section of his book to visually depict the decline of the West s population, territory, and economic influence. Also in this section, the concept of modernization vs. Westernization is discussed. Many cultures desire to become modern, but without the negative trappings of Western civilization such as the perceived lack of morals and weak work ethic of Westerners, and the primarily Western concept of the separation between church and state. Modernization was once equated with Westernization but, according to Huntington, this is now not always the case. His examples include the Japanese and Islamic cultures. In Japan there has been a return to traditional Asian culture due to the prevailing belief that their economic prosperity is directly linked to their traditional culture and that the problems of the U.S. are linked to our Western culture.
