Abuse of vulnerable adults
PRINCIPLES OF SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
Within the care sector there are many individuals who rely and depend on the help and support of
others such as nurses, social workers and support workers. When this level of trust and responsibility
exists it is important that these individuals are able to feel safe and confident and not at risk to abuse.
It is therefore our responsibility as carers to ensure there are safeguarding procedures in place to
protect all individuals from any form of abuse at all times. In order to effectively safeguard against
abuse within health and social care settings it is first important to identify types of abuse so as to see
how the risk of abuse can be restricted and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be an individual missing meals or medication because staff fail to realise these needs have
not been met. In situations where staffing levels are insufficient this type of abuse is more likely to
arise as staff may be unable to cover the work load depriving individuals of care or support. It is also
essential to maintain high levels of staff communication to ensure information such as medicinal
requirements or hygiene routines are carried out, particularly with individuals who may have
communication difficulties or are non verbal. If an individual is displaying signs of poor hygiene, dirty
clothes or other visual indications that they are not being properly supported it is important to
investigate why and ensure this is not due to staff negligence. Discriminatory Discriminatory abuse
can be any form of abuse that has arisen from prejudice towards a person s beliefs, race, sexuality,
gender, disability, age etc. This is a very personal form of abuse and can be avoided by staff working
as a team and being aware of any personal problems/differences or conflicts of interest. It is important
to identify if abuse has occurred in a discriminatory manner as this can help identify if abuse is likely
to occur again. Some individuals may have religious beliefs that require support or may restrict diet
therefore it is important for staff to be aware of any individuals requirements. Institutional This form
of abuse can perhaps be more

u5549946@anu.edu.au Abstract The purpose of this document is to investigate the innovation path for
a particular product or service of interest to the author and develop the emergence roadmap followed
to realise its commercial success. The emergence of cell phones has been identified as such a case
study in this paper. Keywords Technology evolution, innovation, cellular phone, emergence road
mapping. INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE PHONES Wireless communication has come a long way
since weighing around 1.1 kg in 1983 to the myriad of smartphones available in the market today that
are lightweight and loaded with endless features. But it all began towards the 20th century, when
telegraph and radio technology were evolving tremendously. The transatlantic telegraph was built by
1866. An affinity towards wireless communication was growing for a number of reasons: (i) Increased
mobility. (ii) No wiring. (iii) Remote access. (iv) Innovative solution. (v) Defence strategies. The
concept of mobile phones is based on a very sophisticated radio. Mobile phones have power run
transmitters in them. This power is supplied by a battery. A low power phone requires smaller battery
that allows use of hand held sets, which are not overly bulky. Transmitters convert voice/sound into
electrical signals sent over a frequency spectrum that are received at the station and converted back to

Tension In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Tension is a factor of life that is felt intuitively which means that it is hard to define and even harder to
convey, especially on a page. In his work Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl perfectly executes
creating tension within his writing and in doing so within his reader. In his work he creates tension
through the inner and outer conflicts between characters, the meticulous decision of characterization,
and the conscious choice of places irony in the piece.
In the piece Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl naturally creates tension through the inner and outer
conflicts of his characters. In the work Roald Dahl has the wife character, Mary Maloney, say to her
husband, Patrick, But you must eat! I ll fix it anyway, (3) She says this to Patrick even after he
repeatedly tells her to sit down because he is not hungry. This is the first time Mary directly disobeys
her husband. This conflict creates tension because it finally breaks her Patrick s thinning patience in
the story so far, which leads him to break and tell her news that upsets her. Roald Dahl also creates
tension by having Mary kill her husband, which is a conflict with a permanent consequence. On page
5 she thinks, So I ve killed him, this is after Patrick admits something, the details unknown to the
reader, that greatly upsets Mary, and the reader s watch as her honest shock turns into a brief moment
of violence. When Mary hits Patrick over the head with a lamb leg it creates tension because it is the
first time

Reasons Why Martin Luther King Jr Went Wrong
Why are people so worried about someone s skin color.People judge people on their skin because they
might think they are a terrorist because of where they came from.Sometimes people judge people for
their religion because they don t not belief in what someone else believes in.People still don t trust
some people because of some terrorist attacks so they don t like to think they are the good people and
they think they are bad guys. One example why people should get along and not be racist or
judgemental is because it could lead to what happened to Martin Luther King jr he was shot one time
and the face and killed at a hotel in memphis Tennessee. The reason why Martin Luther King jr was

Keny A National Leader Of National Unity
Chapter Two
The Kenyan Cases in Perspective
2.1 Background and context
The 2007 general elections in Kenya was a watershed event in the history of the country.
Unprecedented violence broke out in many parts of the country immediately Mwai Kibaki of the Party
of National Unity (PNU) was declared the winner of the presidential poll and sworn in on 30th
December 2007. The violence escalated as the leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila
Odinga, immediately rejected the outcome of the poll. Such violence had never occurred in Kenya
before and it had devastating consequences. The violence, commonly referred to as Post Election
Violence (PEV), continued for the next 14 days after Kibaki was declared the winner and according to
the Commission of Inquiry into Post Election Violence report (CIPEV or WAKI report), it led to 1,133
deaths, rape of approximately 3,000 women, severe injuries to 3,561 persons, massive destruction of
both government and private property and displacement of over 300,000 people. Kenya had not
experienced violence of such gravity before as previous ethnic clashes documented by the Akiwumi
Commission which was commissioned in 1998 and the report released in 2002.
Although declaration of Kibaki as the duly elected president is what sparked the violence, Waki report
and other agencies examined deep seated issues which played a central role in causing the violence
and these include; first is the culture of impunity in the country and politicization of

Essay on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas
Frederick Douglas, a slave born in Tuckahoe Maryland, was half white and half black. His mother was
a black woman and his father a white man. Though he never knew his father, there was word that it
was his master. Douglas wrote this narrative and I felt that it was very compelling. It really showed me
the trials and tribulations that a black man went through during times of slavery.
In his early years, Douglas lived on a farm where he watched many slaves receive harsh beatings and
whippings. For example, one of his masters whipped his Aunt Hester because she was not there when
he desired her presence. At the time she was in the company of another man, which was something

Hopkins, and Mr. Austin Gore were all cruel overseers. An exception to this was Mr. Hopkins, who
was not a typical overseer. Unlike the others, he did not curse a lot, and bent the rules every now and
then. He was called by the slaves a good overseer (p. 7). The typical overseer would have beat a slave
the second he stepped out of line. For example, Mr. Gore, who took Mr. Hopkins place was very cruel
and would not take any sort of talking back. He would not communicate with any of the slaves except
for giving orders and beating them. He was, in a word, a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone
like coolness (p. 13). There were also those white people who encouraged black people to escape, and
them catch them to receive rewards. Slaves could not catch any breaks.
On the other hand, there were some good whites. Douglas wanted to learn how to read, so he made
friends with some little white boys on the street. Douglas spoke of running errands, and stopping in
with the white children to learn to read in his spare time. As a symbol of his gratitude, Douglas would
give the children bread to eat. They, in fact, had a discussion about slavery at one point. He told the
children, You ll be free as soon as you re twenty one, but I m a slave for life! Have I not as good a
right to be free as you have? (p. 22). He recalled that this troubled them, but they still showed much
sympathy towards him. The presence of sympathetic white people gave him

The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and
education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United
States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy
basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy
existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child
(Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son
preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p.
41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the
female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender
inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment
between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide
literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a

Consumers unaware of the diner style atmosphere and quality food will not be willing to pay more or
wait longer for the dining experience. Steak ā€˜n Shake may not be a restaurant appealing to the health
conscious consumer. One original single Steak burger with cheese has 33 grams of fat, which is 51%
of the daily allowance. A hand dipped regular vanilla milkshake consists of 664 calories and 35 grams
of fat, which is 54% of the recommended daily allowance. Opportunities: Currently, Steak ā€˜n Shake
has 445 restaurants in 20 states. By 2010 they estimate having over 1000 restaurants nationwide. The
additional 550 restaurants will increase the brand recognition and develop brand loyalty. In 2008, they
are planning the addition of healthier menu items. Steak ā€˜n Shake hopes to capture the health
conscience consumer that may not currently be a patron of the restaurant. Steak ā€˜n Shake s
involvement in the community may generate additional revenues and raise consumers awareness.
They support local communities by sponsoring educational sporting events and advertising in school

Stereotypes Of Asian Americans
Although they are the fastest growing ethnic group in America, Asian Americans are still not
prominent in mainstream media (Zhang 20). Just like every other racial group, they have their own
stereotypes. Unfortunately, due to this underrepresentation, there are few instances where people
openly speak against these racial stereotypes. In the article Why Is It Still Okay to Make Fun of
Asians?, Elaine Teng mentioned Chris Rock s performance at the Oscars. He joked about three
common Asian stereotypes, something that people still find socially acceptable to make fun of.
American Born Chinese brings up many common Asian American stereotypes and shows how the
characters respond to these jokes. The novel is about Jin Wang, a ... Show more content on

Jin develops many insecurities in relation to being seen as an Asian and a foreigner by his classmates.
His culture, food, and appearance are things that Jin s peers don t understand, and this slowly begins to
change Jin s thoughts about himself. This is especially highlighted in the novel when Jin begins to like
Amelia. He thinks she prefers white boys like Greg, influencing him to change his hairstyle. Jin begins
to feel better when Amelia seems to like him back, but her friend Greg encourages him to stop
hanging around Amelia, claiming that Jin is kind of a geek, (Yang 184). Even though Greg never
explicitly mentions he doesn t want Jin and Amelia to be together because of Jin s race, it is implied.
Zhang discusses the repercussions of academic excellence that Asian Americans can face. Asian
Americans end up studying harder for longer hours, having less time for their social lives and
spending more time in isolation. Because of less social success, Asian Americans are seen as bad
communicators and geeks. In a study that Zhang focuses on in his article, 169 undergraduate students
participated. They were given four scenarios related to academics, social skills, peer rejection, and
initiating friendships, and on a scale of one to five, they rated which race was most likely in each
scenario. The students rated Asian Americans to be less likely to be approached to initiate a friendship.
It is not a surprise that Greg could have also believed this

Miley Cyrus s Influence On The Media Essay
Through Miley Cyrus s years on her hit sitcom her brand identity and start text were made. Her
original star text was known a young sweet innocent teenage girl that believed in love. As Miley and
her audience matured she began to revolutionize her image by creating herself a new star text that was
the polar opposite of her previous. Her new star text was completely self and media driven. Now her
current start text identifies with heartbreak, drugs, activism and nonconformity. The extreme change of
start text shocked and dismayed individuals. Many social media users and celebrity journalist wrote
the transformation of, implying it as a lost girl in her twenties making mistakes she will eventually
regret. Despite the negative comments she has embraced her star text using it for free publicity and
media attention. Miley Cyrus purposefully modified her star text in order to make it in the music
industry, she targeted a new market and generation using her controversial change, boosting her self
success, making her one of the greatest known evolved celebrities to a mass media level.

History of Ian Fleming Essay
History of Ian Fleming
Ian Fleming not just created the character of James Bond; he personified him by living an exciting
life. With his suave style and long history of lavished background he was almost born into the part of
his later creation.
Ian Fleming was born on May 8th, 1908 to his father, Valentine Fleming, and his mother, Beatrice
Fleming (Lycett 12). He was the grandson of the famous Scottish banking pioneer, Robert Fleming
(Rosenberg 5). Ian also had three brothers named Peter, Richard, and Michael. He hated his brother
Peter during most of his childhood. This was due to his brother being very successful in academics
and got his fathers attention. Fist fights usually broke out between the two of them (Lycett 15). He ...

Ian enrolled in Sandhurst: Royal Academy. He did much better in his studies since there were no
women around the college. There he took the final military exams and scored very poorly. He was in
danger of not graduating but there was an essay section of the test that enabled him to take a job as a
reporter for the British Navy. Ian took on the job with great ease. He outsmarted the older, much more
experienced by getting the information to the press much faster than any other reporter. Official were
impressed with his work and promoted him straight to lieutenant on the Royal Navy. He was stationed
on the HMS Repulse. His main job was to plan operations and attacks. He was not comfortable at all.
Ian wrote poetry about his father s death during his service on the ship. He wouldn t show the poetry
to anyone. During a mission that Ian had planned out himself, a crew member had committed mutiny
and was later found to be a spy for the Germans. Ian fought in hand to hand combat with him and took
him into custody. He even interrogated the man himself.
Another mission that was unrelated took Ian to Jamaica. He had fallen in love with the land. He
bought a beach house on a comfortable lot near the beach so that he could live there once his naval
term was up. He called the house Goldeneye because of the wonderful view every room in the house
had. Ian lived in Goldeneye two months a year until his naval term was over and he could live there

Moving In A New Country Analysis
Almost a decade has passed and yet, the daunting feeling of stepping off the plane, into the unknown
remained. Thoughts rushed through my naĆÆve mind, as the brisk breeze brushed my face.Where am I?
Why am I here? Racing through the airport, I was overwhelmed as people paced past me, my mind
filled with curiosity and my heart beating louder than a drum. Everything was new, the silence, the
purity, the beauty. This new country seemed unrealistic to me, it felt like I was in a dream as I was

Hopelessly lost at first, my journey began to feel like an exciting new adventure. Settling in a new
country has many negative effectsas one adapts to the new culture, people and starting a life from step

society with new morals, roots, and lifestyle. Immigrants must make the decision if they want to blend
in and follow the foreign culture or continue to stick to their own culture. Making a decision was not
an option in my family, it was clear that it s our duty to carry on our culture and traditions regardless
of where we end up around the world. However, it s important to find a balance between staying true
to one s roots and being able toevolve with the new environment and assimilate to the society,
otherwise, one may become isolated.I remember observing my mom, quietly sufferingin loneliness as
she left everyone she knew, her family and friends, to a country where she had no one. However, with
time, she found ways to stay in touch with her friends and family and made new friends in Canada as
well. One of the most significant outcomes that moving countries has on immigrants, including myself,
is language barriers as it has remained to be a prevalent challenge for many immigrants, particularly
during the initial stages of settlement. A study conducted by the Canadian government showed that
32% of job seekers experienced language barriers as an issue (Statistics Canada, 2005). I remember
going to school for the first time in Canada and being extremely terrified to interact with other people
who spoke a language I hardly knew. I had forgotten my lunch and wasn t able to communicate this to

Vulvovaginitis Essay
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most prevalent vaginal infections and represents, approximately
40% 50% of all cases of infectious vulvovaginitis [22]. The prevalence of RVVC among childbearing
women and its importance as an Egyptian public health problem make an interest to continue research
on such cases to add deep knowledge on RVVC and to understand the behavior of its pathogen and its
epidemiology within Egyptian patients [23]. RVVC and its control by MBL was studied previously,
but unfortunately none of the published papers discussed such cases in Egyptian patients. In an
attempt to fill this gap, this study was designed on 118 childbearing Egyptian women to find out new
therapeutic strategy for RVVC.
The suspected Candida ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some investigators found that MBL serum level was higher in RVVC cases when compared
it to controls indicating that MBL might be defensive against RVVC [13]. On the contrary, other
studies reported that MBL level was lower in RVVC cases compared to controls [12, 32].
Nevertheless, they depended on measurement of MBL in vaginal fluid while in the present study,
MBL was measured in serum. From practical point of view, determination of MBL level in vaginal
discharge is technically too difficult to perform and to standardize. Even more, the entity of vaginal
fluid is changeable throughout menstrual period [33].
The present study could find an association between MBL2 exon 1 codon 54 polymorphism and
susceptibility to RVVC. Carriage of mutant allele B was more frequent in women with RVVC (16.1%)
than in controls (6%). In previous studies, MBL2 codon 54 polymorphism has been associated with
increased frequency of RVVC in Latvian, Brazilian, Chinese, and Belgium [12, 32, 34, 35] but not
Italian patients [31].
In the present study, analysis of genital hygiene behaviors among wild MBL genotypes estimated that
bad genital hygiene behaviors increased the risk of RVVC by 3.47 times while the risk of RVVC has
been elevated to 18.67 times in the presence of mutant MBL genotypes. These results supported the
fact that RVVC is a monomicrobial; however, it is multifactorial disease in origin [36]. Moreover,
good genital hygiene behaviors

Schools Have A New Meaning On Sexism And Double Standards
Schools have put a new meaning on sexism and double standards. An example of this is having double
standards and sexism towards the dress codes. Students who have families well known or the student
is well liked by the teachers, do not receive the same punishment for breaking the dress code as an
ordinary student. This demonstrates that schools are not fair in setting rules for dress codes. Particular
students are allowed to wear certain clothing, whereas other students are punished for wearing similar
clothing. Schools have double standards as to what is appropriate and what appears to be revealing
and how the following student should be punished. Maggie Sunseri produced a video that led to a
change in her school s dress code exemplifying why schools should be equal, unbiased, and unsexist
when setting and enforcing the dress codes.
Schools have dress codes that are biased and gender specific towards women. For example, if a male
student were to break dress code they would be told to fix the problem; however, a female student
would have more serious consequences. Female students would have a call to parents for a change of
clothing or would be sent home because administrators find this to be a distraction to the male
students. School administrators do not see the effect the unjust, biased school dress codes have on the
female students. The dress codes cause students to feel self conscious, and Maggie Sunseri, a student
from Woodford High, has been a victim of dress code

Reverberation Map Analysis
Seyfert galaxies are one of the two largest groups of active galaxies, along with quasars. They have
quasar like nuclei (very luminous, distant and bright sources of electromagnetic radiation) with very
high surface brightnesses whose spectra reveal strong, high ionisation emission lines, but unlike
quasars, their host galaxies are clearly detectable. Seyfert galaxies account for about 10% of all
galaxies and are some of the most intensely studied objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be
powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous
than quasars. These galaxies have supermassive black holes at their centers which are surrounded by
accretion discs of in falling material. The accretion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is confirmed by the fact that the narrow lines do not vary detectably, which implies that the
emitting region is large, contrary to the broad lines which can vary on relatively short timescales.
Reverberation mapping is a technique which uses this variability to try to determine the location and
morphology of the emitting region. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad
line emitting region by observing the changes in the emitted lines as a response to changes in the
continuum. The use of reverberation mapping requires the assumption that the continuum originates in
a single central source. For 35 AGN, reverberation mapping has been used to calculate the mass of the
central black holes and the size of the broad line regions. In the few radio loud Seyfert galaxies that

The Importance Of Hot Wing Festivals
Have you ever to a celebration that was just to for hot wings? If not you do not know what you are

Myers-Brigg Personality Analysis
According to Myers Brigg personality test I am an INFJ (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging

by just answering a few basics questions. For instance, a distinguish quality of an INF is creativity that
it usually results in an inclination towards the arts. Moreover, an INFJ type personality tends to seek
majors in the fields of education, counseling and science. In that sense, I am not only an artistic
person, but also a student who loves science and seek to help others. As a matter of fact, I chose a
career in the humanities during my undergraduate tenure as well as studies in biology (Human
anatomy) for the reason that I believe that biology and the humanities go hand in hand. In my opinion,
if someone decide to become a doctor or chose a career in the medical field, for example, it is not just
enough to have knowledge about how the human body works, but also it is of great importance to
posses an understanding of the social, and cultural aspects of an individual that is language, race,
religion, etc. The same is true for the humanities, and proved of that is that some well known writers

Disruption Of The Body s Circadian Clock
The circadian clock in humans has influence over many processes in the body. The most prevalent of
those arguably is its determination of our sleep and wake cycles (Joseph et al. 2008). Sufficient sleep
is an essential part of human health and a lack of sleep can have severe repercussions on the human
body and mind (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Disruption of the body s circadian cycle, by genetic
means, can cause: ineffective homeostasis of the sleep cycle, imbalances in the amounts of time spent
awake and asleep, and the timing of sleep s onset, all of which can contribute to dangerous sleep
related disorders (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). (Joseph et al. 2008) states that he circadian clock is

cycle is the clock gene, and that even the smallest of changes on the molecular level can result in
significant changes in physiological out put (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Complete human health is

Why Democratic Parties Are Better Than Other Political...
America has always had a distinct political system, at times it could be calm and peaceful, but in
others it can be the complete opposite; such as the events that occurred in this past election. Similar to
controversial events, in politics there is always going to be an opposing viewpoint; therefore there is
always going to be an opposing group of people. For that reason, that is how the party system began
between the Democrats and the opposing party known as the Whigs. Both parties had opposing views
and ideas, but some were stronger than others. Both parties had their flaws and advantages which
helped them hold the the upper hand in certain time periods. In this essay I will name and explain the
points each party supported, the reasons why both parties opposed each other s points, and the reasons
why the Democratic party had the upper hand from the year 1828 to 1852. ... Show more content on

opposition of both parties was that they had different ideas; but the main reason was that the creation
of the Whig party was started by a group of people which initially started with intentions to oppose
Andrew Jackson s view in the Democratic party. The Whigs disapproved of Jackson s views even

Effects Of The 1968 Tet Offensive On American Policy And...
The Vietnam War plunged the United States in an ever increasing dilemma of how to exit what
seemed to be an unwinnable war against a formidable foe without losing honor and respect in the
global community. In a comparison of two essays regarding America s involvement in Vietnam, the
authors offer different perspectives on the war and what led to an America defeat. In the first essay, the
effects of the 1968 Tet Offensive are examined and what impact it had on American policy and public
opinion about the war effort. Likewise, the second essay examines the role the news media played in
the war effort and what effect they had, if any, on official and public opinion, domestically and
internationally. The essay A Crippling Defeat for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These attacks were intended to draw American and the southern Army of the Republic of Vietnam
(ARVN) forces away from urban areas that were the real targets of the Tet Offensive. Once primary
targets were left relatively unprotected, VC and PAVN forces attacked military and political centers
across Southern Vietnam and even infiltrated the grounds of the American embassy in Saigon.
According to U.S. General Fred Weyand, the Tet Offensive waged by enemy forces may not have
succeeded in physically taking targeted locations during the attacks but it had overwhelmingly
succeeded in inflicting a huge psychological blow to the South Vietnamese people and their U.S.
allies. Consequently, the Tet Offensive was a resounding political success for the Communist forces
because it not only broke the morale of the South Vietnamese people and made them more vulnerable
to Vietcong exploitation, but it also altered American public opinion about the war in general.
American decision makers had been confident its military would be able to defeat the enemy with use
of superior firepower but the Tet Offensive had proven how ineffective air strikes were against such an
elusive and mobile enemy. Nor did it offer much of a deterrent against ambitious initiatives to an
enemy that has the capability to designate the time and place of its military engagements.
Nevertheless, U.S. officials concluded the Tet Offensive was a unequivocal military

The organization started 20 years ago and Dowling Catholic has been involved for 13 years. Staff and

in the area especially young kids. Many students go on vacation with family and friends for spring

A Summary Of The Nurse Ratched By William Mcmurphy
The happy, easygoing nature that McMurphy carries incites immediate change in the boys attitude
towards Nurse Ratched. His singing and laughing shocks the others to show that such behavior is not
encouraged in the ward. His laughter is described as free and loud it comes out of his wide grinning
mouth and spreads in rings bigger and bigger till its lapping against the walls (12). This juxtaposition
between the Chief s influence as compared the the Nurse s ability to fill up the room automatically
shines a bright light on him. As none of the people had heard laughter in so long, it took time to place
it as they were shocked and :stunned dumb (12.) The diction used reveals how Bromden is treated; in
the ward, they are confined from happiness and loud sounds because in their situation, there is not
much to be happy about and a loud sound is typically associated with a disturbance that yields a
punishment. McMurphy is also the first to vocalize the derogatory methods of their therapy group,
breaking Harding out of his trance, starting to bring awareness to the others. He uses an analogy of a
peckin party can wipe out an entire flock in a matter of a few hours (57). This describes how during
their therapy sessions, one instigation starts a cascade of admittance to bad deeds, reinforcing the
Nurse s power to torture them. Following the collective realization that Nurse Ratched s methods were
demeaning, there followed a whine of fear over the silence that persisted because

Making A Band Or Start Writing Music
When people create a band or start writing music, they want money. In the early 20th century, artists
were not receiving the royalties that they should have earned. Enter the first Performing Rights
Organization which is also called a PRO that promised what the artist should be earning, money.
PROs were fine until the organizations realized how much money they can earn. PROs exist for a
reason, but the cost of the license, why they are non profit , and why the artist has to sign with PRO s
that make PROs truly evil. In February 1914, the first PRO in the United States was formed. Music
writers came together and The American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers was formed.

But not all of the artists are under one PRO, so the person must buy a license from each PRO that
represents the artist s music that they would be playing (Public Performance Licenses and Music for
Your Small Business). If the person thinks they can get away with not paying, think again. PROs are
always in court suing small businesses for copyright infringement. On average, the lawsuit ends up
being $700 $30,000 depending on the severity of the infringement. Depending on what license they
are applying for, the cost varies. License fees range from $300 $500 and could cost more depending
on some variables like if the music would be for a dance studio or for a church (Public Performance
Licenses and Music for Your Small Business). A PRO might sound like a good thing, right? But you re
wrong because the PROs goal is to make a profit for the company. An organization s job is to make
money, and then they pay taxes on the revenue they receive. If an organization says they are non
profit, they usually do not have to pay taxes on the revenue they earn. PROs like ASCAP and BMI say
they are non profit, which means more profit for the artist, right? Wrong (Why You Should Think
Twice Before Joining ASCAP, BMI or SESAC). Members of the ASCAP earn 86.5 cent for every
dollar that the ASCAP earns. But isn t the other 13.5 cents profit? But PROs do that for one specific
reason, to trap artist. The

Multiple Sclerosis Research Paper
Classification of the disease
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system
(CNS) and is the most common causes of nontraumatic disability among young and middle aged
adults . There are four types of multiple sclerosis the most common is Clinically isolated Syndrome
(CIS) , Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS), Relapsing Remitting MS (RRMS), and Primary
Progressive MS (PPMS).
The Mortality Rate Although there is no known cure for MS, it is not a fatal disease, patients have to
contend with their quality of life being disrupted. Patients are more likely to die from respiratory
failure, heart failure, pneumonia and sepsis. Multiple sclerosis is not listed as the main cause of death

Multiple Sclerosis is considered an autoimmune disease in which the body s immune system attacks
its own tissues. [1] In the case of MS, this immune system malfunction destroys myelin (the fatty
substance that coats and protects nerve fibers in the brain. [1] It isn t clear why MS develops in some
people and not others. Researchers believe that a combination of genetics and environmental factors
appears to be responsible.
These risk factors may increase your risk of developing Multiple Sclerosis.[1]
Sex. Women are about twice as likely as men are to develop MS[1]
Family history. If one of your parents or siblings has had MS, you are at higher risk of developing the
disease.[1]
[Certain infections. A variety of viruses have been linked to MS, including Epstein Barr, the virus that
causes infectious mononucleosis. [1]
Race. White people, particularly those of Northern European descent, are at highest risk of developing
MS. People of Asian, African or Native American descent have the lowest risk. [1]
Climate. MS is far more common in countries with temperate climates, including Canada, the northern
United States, New Zealand, southeastern Australia and Europe.Pathophysiology Assessment [1]

Coastal Management Long Reef Notes Geography Essay
Coastal management The aim of this report is to investigate Long Reef and Collaroy Beach s coastal
management. Sand Dunes The Importance of Vegetation Sand dunes are a valid indication of the
quality of the soil and the surrounding ocean. When vegetation is established in sand dunes, it
stabilises it i.e. gives the dunes structure. This structure helps prevent erosion by using the plant life to
trap the sand. Without these plants (and ultimately the sand dunes) sand will be subject to many
natural forces without protection, meaning any major storm could theoretically remove large amounts
of sand from the beach with no natural means of replenishing it. Long Reef Beach is commendable in
the amount of vegetation it has produced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Impact of Natural Disasters Natural disasters are considered harmful in terms of coastal management
and can often cause years of work to be wiped out. It can take large amounts of sand from the beach
and remove plant life. Collaroy Beach has been a victim of such natural disasters. A large storm back
in 1945 caused Collaroy Beach to empty out a large percentage of its sand and damaged many
structures. Collaroy Beach s local council, Warringah Council, has taken action to prevent storm
damage in the future. A revetment wall has been established on the sand dunes so waves do not cause
as much damage to the dunes behind. Warringah has also purchased properties that were residential
and cleared them, so that a storm will not damage as many structures. Coastal Management Sand
Nourishment Sand nourishment refers to the replacement of sediment on beaches that has previously
been lost, generally through natural processes. It is a commonly used practice in coastal management.
Collaroy Beach uses sand nourishment as longshore drift has moved sand, which cannot be
replenished as there are rock formations preventing sediment from refilling the beach. Collaroy Beach
also does not have an established dune system, and cannot trap sand. Management Plan A

Robert Frost s Design as Seen Through the Lens of His Earlier Poem Range Finding In Robert Frost s
Design, written in 1922, the narrator laments the juxtaposition of life and death that he bears witness
to when he sees a spider on a heal all flower carrying the dead moth it has killed. He uses a modified
Italian or Petrarchan sonnet, punctuation, repetition of rhyme and diction, repetition of anomaly, and
repetition of the same rhyme in both the octave and the sestet, to convey that death is a question that
cannot be answered and that the only solution, the only answer, is to continue to ponder over it. While
it is a question that cannot be answered, it must be questioned anyway. He uses symbols he has drawn
from in earlier works, as well as his experience playing with the form of the Petrarchan sonnet in the
past, to help shed light on the importance of this. Using a modified Petrarchan sonnet, Frost is able to
use the formal rhyme scheme in the first eight lines, called the octave, of abb/aab/ba. While the rhyme
scheme of the second six lines of the poem, called the sestet, follows less stringent guidelines, Frost
uses that of ac/aa/cc, which is extraordinary in that it carries over the a of the octave s rhyme scheme
and introduces it into the rhyme scheme of the sestet. Usually the sestet introduces new rhymes of c
and d but Frost chooses to only introduce one new rhyme to its scheme, that of

Social Phobia or Just Shyness
As pharmaceutical companies began advertising on television several years ago, many prescription
drug advertisements flooded the airwaves. One such drug was for the treatment of social anxiety
disorder, also called social phobia. In investigating the causes, symptoms, and treatment of social
anxiety disorder, I found that while drug companies and some researchers have hailed the unveiling of
a drug for social anxiety as an important step, others feel that the disorder is poorly defined and its
prevalence is exaggerated. Therefore, the following questions emerged: how did the diagnostic

of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The disorder typically begins in childhood, and the National Institute of Mental Health estimates that
3.7 percent of 18 to 54 year olds in the United States have social anxiety disorder, with women
diagnosed twice as often as men (1). Although researchers are not completely sure of the biological
basis of social anxiety, some believe that its basis may lie in the amygdala, a small portion of the brain
that controls fear response. NIMH scientists have also found a possible genetic component: through
research on mice, they have found a gene that relates to fearfulness (1). Additionally, hormones may
play a role, specifically fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels in women (4). Environment
may also be important, as people with social anxiety may learn the behavior from watching and
patterning those around them (1). Treatment may include the use of medications such as selective
seretonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), monamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and beta blockers
specifically for performance phobias. Individuals may also benefit from behavioral therapy, which
involves gradual exposure to feared situations (1).
However, some believe that the category of social phobia or social anxiety is not so clear cut. For
example, the diagnosis of social anxiety can be difficult because of its co occurrence with

Code Of Hammurabi Essay
Laws play major role in civilizations, without them there would be no boundaries or consequences
that can promise the people safety from dangers. The Code of Hammurabi was written by King
Hammurabi, who began ruling the Babylonian Empire in about 1800 BC. There were 282 laws that
applied to everyone, though application of the laws and punishment differed according to social class.
The purpose of Hammurabi s code was to make the punishment so harsh that the individual who
committed the crime would never think of committing it again, and if a crime does happened the

Gender equality is a major theme that is reveal throughout Hammuria s code. For example law 128

if there isn t an agreement between the husband and wife there is no marriage therefore a woman isn t

Marywood s Core Values In What Teachers Make And A Good Man
I have decided to compare the novel A Good Man with the poem What Teachers Make because both
have similar and different ways of showing some of Marywood s Core Values. A Good Man is about
Mark Shriver and his father and how his father had done many good deeds while alive. These good
deeds inspired Mark to become the person he was. In the poem What Teachers Make, it is merely
about how a teacher tries to prove a point that all teachers in general have a greater purpose than most
people believe. Both are great pieces of writing that show three of Marywood s Core Values: Respect,
Empowerment, and Excellence. Although both pieces of writing have a strong way of portraying
respect, they are done in different ways. In Mark Shriver s book A Good Man, Sargent Shriver and his
wife show respect by reaching out to black people and people with disabilities. Sargent would always
find a way or people to stop being racist towards the blacks and trying to treat them as equal as
everyone else. The same goes for Sargent s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both talk about the excellence achieved in their careers and lives. In Mark Shriver s book, Sargent was
known as a good man by basically everyone he knew. This was because Sargent always did good
deeds for others and was a very selfless person. He was a big inspiration to his son and many others.
There was not one person that hated him. This tells us that Sargent has lived an excellent life with so
many achievements and selfless acts. In Taylor Mali s poem, the narrator explains that teachers are
more than just someone who just teach because they need to make a salary. The examples the narrator
gives of him and how he helps students, shows that he is an excellent teacher and that there are many
more out there. He states that he actually tries to make a difference which is the unique quality that

Computer Algebra Systems ( Cas )
Introduction About CAS Calculator Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) were first introduced in the
early 1970s on large frame computers and are now accessible on a hand held CAS calculator that is
increasing in popularity and affordability for high school students (Kendal, 2006). The CAS calculator
is a multi representational too with symbolic, graphical and numeric capabilities and a large variety of
procedural skills that include calculus, drawing graphs, and the execution of numerical, vector, matrix,
and statistical calculations (Zbiek, Heid Hirsch, 2009). The CAS calculator is a powerful dynamic tool
that offers opportunities of learning new concepts and experiences and allows teachers to use the CAS
to help students focus on either a more targeted or a global view of their work with symbolic
representations, depending on the instructional goal (Zbiek, Heid Hirsch, 2009). Bert Waits, coā€

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Commercial Bank Loans
The second source of short term financing is commercial bank loan which is one of the primary
sources of short term financing, especially for small businesses (Jonathan Berk, Peter DeMarzo Jarrad
Harford, 2015). Commercial bank loans always being used by most firms as it is the simplest and most
common source of short term finance. Jonathan Berk, Peter DeMarzo Jarrad Harford (2015) added in
their book Fundamentals of Corporate Finance that bank loans are typically initiated with a
promissory note which is a written statement that indicates the amount of the loan, the payment is due
and the interest rate. This note have a similarity as trade credit which has the payment s due but,

Commercial paper is sure quick rather than bank loan which is slow in processing the additional funds

than a bank loan while it is unsecured and thus does not creates any liens on assets of the company.
Plus, the liquidity is high enough for a big company issuing commercial paper to fill in gaps in their
cash flow and it provides the exit option to the investors to quit the investment as it is for a short term
financing. Thus, a short term financing likely to have high risk and have high in return. Meanwhile,
the advantages are it reduce credit limits with banks and reduce reliability due to its strict oversight.

Nutrition In Teen Pregnancy
Nutrition in Teen Pregnancy I chose the topic Nutrition in Teen Pregnancy because I find teen
pregnancy interesting. I find teen pregnancy interesting because it is something that until recently was
not heard of all the time. Over the past year s teen pregnancy has more or less become a norm around
the world.
When a teenager becomes pregnant most of the time, it is a surprise to them, and they had not planned
to be. The teen then has a big decision to make: keep the baby, give the baby up for adoption or abort
the baby (Planned Parenthood, 2017). If they choose to keep the baby or give the baby up for
adoption, they need to receive prenatal care. In cases where the teen has not planned to become
pregnant, they have not had any care trying to prepare for the baby so nutrition during a pregnancy is
extremely important. Many pregnant teens are willing to change their nutrition to improve the chances
of delivering a healthy child (Montgomery, 2003).
Most teens are aware that nutrition during pregnancy is important. However, these teens do not have
the knowledge of nutrition needed during pregnancy. When a teenager finds out that they are pregnant,
they need to start prenatal care. They first need to go to the doctor to have a check up to make sure
both them, and the baby are healthy (Montgomery, 2003).
Teen pregnancies have many risks compared to adult pregnancies. If a pregnant teen does not receive
prenatal care, the baby is, three times more likely to have a low birth

Wolfram Syndrome Essay
Overview Wolfram syndrome Type 1 is caused by a mutation in the WFS1 gene. Wolfram Syndrome
is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the mutation of this
gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and deafness. Normally
the WFS1 gene produces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium in the cells, but when it
is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function (AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015).
When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body will trigger apoptosis or dead of their
own cells which then cause the complications that are known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is
altered. Wolframin is also important within many parts of the body affecting systems like our bones,
lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive
neurodegenerative disease that is found in one out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of
one in 354 it is important to recognize the debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al.
2012). Gene Loci The location of the WFS1 gene is on the 4th chromosome. This is the 4th largest
chromosome and it represents about 6.5 percent of the total DNA contained in our cells. The specific

Many children who have this mutation may not even get diagnosed for several years because of how
rare it is and how little amounts of information are known about it. When the child or person of any
age is found to have this mutation the only thing that can really be done is symptomatic and
supportive care by closely monitoring the person s organs and body functions. Luckily trials are being
run in several settings including learning from people who already have the disease and symptoms to
find at the very least some time of prevention or life extending solution to this

The Countess And The Goose Research Paper
The Countess and The Goose
Sherlock Holmes has a mystery to solve, but does he make the right choice in the end? The countess
has lost her jewel and they found it in a goose. Who put it there? In my opinion Sherlock Holmes did
the wrong thing, by letting Catherine Cusack and James Ryder go. In the first place, they did frame an
innocent man named John Horner. John had a wife and kids, he did not deserve to go to jail. He had a
family and a house to support. He was also a hard working man and when he got a call from the maid
about the pipes having some trouble, he simply came to fix the pipes he knew nothing of the jewel. In
the second place, they could steal again. Nothing is stopping them, and they will never be suspected

Yes Money Can Make You Happy By Cass R. Sunstein
Undoubtedly, money is and has been arguably the most important aspect of any society in the world.
Money is an essential piece of every day life because of the fact that nearly everything comes with a
price tag. With how important the aspect of money has become, there have been arguments about
whether money can truly make an individual happy. This particular topic has been highly controversial
with multiple different stands on the effect of money on happiness. With that being said, money does
influence people and makes them happier because they can live comfortably without worry, it allows
for many dreams to become realities, and it provides the opportunity to give back and help others.
First, money increases the happiness of people because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many instances, people cannot give back because they desperately need the money themselves. An
increase in prosperity would present the opportunity to provide for themselves along with help support
people who are not as fortunate as them. To support the claim that giving back to others produces
happiness, Cass Sunstein, from the article Yes, Money Can Make You Happy writes, In one study, the
best prediction of people s happiness was not how much they devoted to personal spending, but
instead how much they gave to others (Sunstein 271). The study that was completed produced
findings that displayed a relationship between sharing with others and personal happiness. Michael
Norton also presented similar feelings during his TED talk presentation titled, How to Buy Happiness.
In this video presentation he describes a study that recorded the feelings of undergraduate college
students when it came to spending money. The method involved giving these students money with the
freedom of spending the money on themselves or on others. As a result of the study, Norton shared,
When we called people back at the end of the day, people who spent money on other people got
happier, while people who spent the money on themselves did not change (Norton). Norton illustrates
the benefit of spending money prosocially. Both of these sources agree with each other

Essay about AMERICANS VIEWS
A stereotype is the creation of an unfair opinion or view; an individual will take the behavior of one
person and state that all people belonging to that particular group behave in the same manner.
Stereotyping encourages people to react and behave in a manner that is both judgmental and
prejudiced. The perception of Arabs and the Islamic religion has created a system in which prejudices
and stereotypes worked their way so thoroughly into literature, education, history, language, and social
mores that they seem to govern the conflict as much as they are created by it, while newspapers and
television news play a major role in the way we perceive Arabs and the Islamic religion. Movies,
books, and sitcoms also play a major role in shaping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arabs are seen as terrorists and murderers due to how the media presents them.
The media is not the only key in creating stereotypes; you ll find examples in many different types of
American literature, also. The negative stereotypes about Arabs spill over into the textbooks used in
American schools and are taught in the education system. The education programs imprint young
children with numerous negative images of Arabs. Another form of literature, novels, also perpetuates
stereotypes by romanticizing Arabs as dressing in flowing robes, striving against desert hardships, and
being surrounded by submissive females. Others novels have portrayed Arabs as evil and corrupt;
some portray them as terrorists and murderers. These distortions of the Arab people, in literature have
created a general mistrust and dislike for Arabs among Americans.
Another form of broadcasting of stereotypes comes from the news media. The news programs allow
television journalism to play a major role in setting the political agenda. The news media aired
broadcasts involving the United States government and the American Arab Anti Discrimination
Committee, who reported a 250% increase in hate crimes against Arabs from the previous year. In the
face of September 11, a wave of racially motivated attacks against people from the Middle East is
taking place throughout the United States of America. During the last two years, the Justice
Department has targeted almost exclusively people from the Middle

INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE PHONES Wireless communication has come a long way since weighing around 1.1 kg in 1983 to the myriad of smartphones available in the market today that are lightweight and loaded with endless features. But it all began towards the 20th century, when telegraph and radio technology were evolving tremendously. The transatlantic telegraph was built by 1866. An affinity towards wireless communication was growing for a number of reasons: (i) Increased mobility. (ii) No wiring. (iii) Remote access. (iv) Innovative solution. (v) Defence strategies. The concept of mobile phones is based on a very sophisticated radio. Mobile phones have power run transmitters in them. This power is supplied by a battery. In his work Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl perfectly executes creating tension within his writing and in doing so within his reader. In his work he creates tension through the inner and outer conflicts between characters, the meticulous decision of characterization, and the conscious choice of places irony in the piece. In the piece Lamb to the Slaughter Roald Dahl naturally creates tension through the inner and outer conflicts of his characters. In the work Roald Dahl has the wife character, Mary Maloney, say to her husband, Patrick, But you must eat! I ll fix it anyway, (3) She says this to Patrick even after he repeatedly tells her to sit down because he is not hungry. This is the first time Mary directly disobeys her husband. This conflict creates tension because it finally breaks her Patrick s thinning patience in the story so far, which leads him to break and tell her news that upsets her. Roald Dahl also creates tension by having Mary kill her husband, which is a conflict with a permanent consequence. On page 5 she thinks, So I ve killed him, this is after Patrick admits something, the details unknown to the reader, that greatly upsets Mary, and the reader s watch as her honest shock turns into a brief moment of violence. • 7. Keny A National Leader Of National Unity Chapter Two The Kenyan Cases in Perspective 2.1 Background and context The 2007 general elections in Kenya was a watershed event in the history of the country. Unprecedented violence broke out in many parts of the country immediately Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity (PNU) was declared the winner of the presidential poll and sworn in on 30th December 2007. The violence escalated as the leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila Odinga, immediately rejected the outcome of the poll. Such violence had never occurred in Kenya before and it had devastating consequences. The violence, commonly referred to as Post Election Violence (PEV), continued for the next 14 days after Kibaki was declared the winner and according to the Commission of Inquiry into Post Election Violence report (CIPEV or WAKI report), it led to 1,133 deaths, rape of approximately 3,000 women, severe injuries to 3,561 persons, massive destruction of both government and private property and displacement of over 300,000 people. Kenya had not experienced violence of such gravity before as previous ethnic clashes documented by the Akiwumi Commission which was commissioned in 1998 and the report released in 2002. Although declaration of Kibaki as the duly elected president is what sparked the violence, Waki report and other agencies examined deep seated issues which played a central role in causing the violence and these include; first is the culture of impunity in the country and politicization of ... • 8. Essay on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas Frederick Douglas, a slave born in Tuckahoe Maryland, was half white and half black. His mother was a black woman and his father a white man. Though he never knew his father, there was word that it was his master. Douglas wrote this narrative and I felt that it was very compelling. It really showed me the trials and tribulations that a black man went through during times of slavery. In his early years, Douglas lived on a farm where he watched many slaves receive harsh beatings and whippings. For example, one of his masters whipped his Aunt Hester because she was not there when he desired her presence. At the time she was in the company of another man, which was something that Colonel ... Unlike the others, he did not curse a lot, and bent the rules every now and then. He was called by the slaves a good overseer (p. 7). The typical overseer would have beat a slave the second he stepped out of line. For example, Mr. Gore, who took Mr. Hopkins place was very cruel and would not take any sort of talking back. He would not communicate with any of the slaves except for giving orders and beating them. He was, in a word, a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone like coolness (p. 13). There were also those white people who encouraged black people to escape, and them catch them to receive rewards. Slaves could not catch any breaks. On the other hand, there were some good whites. Douglas wanted to learn how to read, so he made friends with some little white boys on the street. Douglas spoke of running errands, and stopping in with the white children to learn to read in his spare time. As a symbol of his gratitude, Douglas would give the children bread to eat. They, in fact, had a discussion about slavery at one point. He told the children, You ll be free as soon as you re twenty one, but I m a slave for life! Have I not as good a right to be free as you have? (p. 22). He recalled that this troubled them, but they still showed much sympathy towards him. The presence of sympathetic white people gave him ... • 9. The One Child Policy And Gender Bias Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, they depended on measurement of MBL in vaginal fluid while in the present study, MBL was measured in serum. From practical point of view, determination of MBL level in vaginal discharge is technically too difficult to perform and to standardize. Even more, the entity of vaginal fluid is changeable throughout menstrual period [33]. The present study could find an association between MBL2 exon 1 codon 54 polymorphism and susceptibility to RVVC. Carriage of mutant allele B was more frequent in women with RVVC (16.1%) than in controls (6%). In the present study, analysis of genital hygiene behaviors among wild MBL genotypes estimated that bad genital hygiene behaviors increased the risk of RVVC by 3.47 times while the risk of RVVC has been elevated to 18.67 times in the presence of mutant MBL genotypes. These results supported the fact that RVVC is a monomicrobial; however, it is multifactorial disease in origin [36]. Moreover, good genital hygiene behaviors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Schools Have A New Meaning On Sexism And Double Standards Schools have put a new meaning on sexism and double standards. An example of this is having double standards and sexism towards the dress codes. Students who have families well known or the student is well liked by the teachers, do not receive the same punishment for breaking the dress code as an ordinary student. This demonstrates that schools are not fair in setting rules for dress codes. Particular students are allowed to wear certain clothing, whereas other students are punished for wearing similar clothing. Schools have double standards as to what is appropriate and what appears to be revealing and how the following student should be punished. Maggie Sunseri produced a video that led to a change in her school s dress code exemplifying why schools should be equal, unbiased, and unsexist when setting and enforcing the dress codes. Schools have dress codes that are biased and gender specific towards women. For example, if a male student were to break dress code they would be told to fix the problem; however, a female student would have more serious consequences. Female students would have a call to parents for a change of clothing or would be sent home because administrators find this to be a distraction to the male students. Seyfert galaxies account for about 10% of all galaxies and are some of the most intensely studied objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous than quasars. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad line emitting region by observing the changes in the emitted lines as a response to changes in the continuum. Once primary targets were left relatively unprotected, VC and PAVN forces attacked military and political centers across Southern Vietnam and even infiltrated the grounds of the American embassy in Saigon. According to U.S. General Fred Weyand, the Tet Offensive waged by enemy forces may not have succeeded in physically taking targeted locations during the attacks but it had overwhelmingly succeeded in inflicting a huge psychological blow to the South Vietnamese people and their U.S. allies. Consequently, the Tet Offensive was a resounding political success for the Communist forces because it not only broke the morale of the South Vietnamese people and made them more vulnerable to Vietcong exploitation, but it also altered American public opinion about the war in general. American decision makers had been confident its military would be able to defeat the enemy with use of superior firepower but the Tet Offensive had proven how ineffective air strikes were against such an elusive and mobile enemy. Nor did it offer much of a deterrent against ambitious initiatives to an enemy that has the capability to designate the time and place of its military engagements. • 28. A Summary Of The Nurse Ratched By William Mcmurphy The happy, easygoing nature that McMurphy carries incites immediate change in the boys attitude towards Nurse Ratched. His singing and laughing shocks the others to show that such behavior is not encouraged in the ward. His laughter is described as free and loud it comes out of his wide grinning mouth and spreads in rings bigger and bigger till its lapping against the walls (12). This juxtaposition between the Chief s influence as compared the the Nurse s ability to fill up the room automatically shines a bright light on him. As none of the people had heard laughter in so long, it took time to place it as they were shocked and :stunned dumb (12.) The diction used reveals how Bromden is treated; in the ward, they are confined from happiness and loud sounds because in their situation, there is not much to be happy about and a loud sound is typically associated with a disturbance that yields a punishment. McMurphy is also the first to vocalize the derogatory methods of their therapy group, breaking Harding out of his trance, starting to bring awareness to the others. He uses an analogy of a peckin party can wipe out an entire flock in a matter of a few hours (57). This describes how during their therapy sessions, one instigation starts a cascade of admittance to bad deeds, reinforcing the Nurse s power to torture them. Following the collective realization that Nurse Ratched s methods were demeaning, there followed a whine of fear over the silence that persisted because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the early 20th century, artists were not receiving the royalties that they should have earned. On average, the lawsuit ends up being $700 $30,000 depending on the severity of the infringement. Depending on what license they are applying for, the cost varies. License fees range from $300 $500 and could cost more depending on some variables like if the music would be for a dance studio or for a church (Public Performance Licenses and Music for Your Small Business). A PRO might sound like a good thing, right? But you re wrong because the PROs goal is to make a profit for the company. • 32. Coastal Management Long Reef Notes Geography Essay Coastal management The aim of this report is to investigate Long Reef and Collaroy Beach s coastal management. Sand Dunes The Importance of Vegetation Sand dunes are a valid indication of the quality of the soil and the surrounding ocean. When vegetation is established in sand dunes, it stabilises it i.e. gives the dunes structure. This structure helps prevent erosion by using the plant life to trap the sand. Without these plants (and ultimately the sand dunes) sand will be subject to many natural forces without protection, meaning any major storm could theoretically remove large amounts of sand from the beach with no natural means of replenishing it. Long Reef Beach is commendable in the amount of vegetation it has produced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can take large amounts of sand from the beach and remove plant life. Collaroy Beach has been a victim of such natural disasters. A large storm back in 1945 caused Collaroy Beach to empty out a large percentage of its sand and damaged many structures. Collaroy Beach s local council, Warringah Council, has taken action to prevent storm damage in the future. A revetment wall has been established on the sand dunes so waves do not cause as much damage to the dunes behind. Warringah has also purchased properties that were residential and cleared them, so that a storm will not damage as many structures. Coastal Management Sand Nourishment Sand nourishment refers to the replacement of sediment on beaches that has previously been lost, generally through natural processes. It is a commonly used practice in coastal management. James Giltenan LTCM Erik Gray TA: Michael West 26 October 2016 Robert Frost s Design as Seen Through the Lens of His Earlier Poem Range Finding In Robert Frost s Design, written in 1922, the narrator laments the juxtaposition of life and death that he bears witness to when he sees a spider on a heal all flower carrying the dead moth it has killed. He uses a modified Italian or Petrarchan sonnet, punctuation, repetition of rhyme and diction, repetition of anomaly, and repetition of the same rhyme in both the octave and the sestet, to convey that death is a question that cannot be answered and that the only solution, the only answer, is to continue to ponder over it. While it is a question that cannot be answered, it must be questioned anyway. He uses symbols he has drawn from in earlier works, as well as his experience playing with the form of the Petrarchan sonnet in the past, to help shed light on the importance of this. Using a modified Petrarchan sonnet, Frost is able to use the formal rhyme scheme in the first eight lines, called the octave, of abb/aab/ba. While the rhyme scheme of the second six lines of the poem, called the sestet, follows less stringent guidelines, Frost uses that of ac/aa/cc, which is extraordinary in that it carries over the a of the octave s rhyme scheme and introduces it into the rhyme scheme of the sestet. Usually the sestet introduces new rhymes of c and d but Frost chooses to only introduce one new rhyme to its scheme, that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The disorder typically begins in childhood, and the National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 3.7 percent of 18 to 54 year olds in the United States have social anxiety disorder, with women diagnosed twice as often as men (1). Although researchers are not completely sure of the biological basis of social anxiety, some believe that its basis may lie in the amygdala, a small portion of the brain that controls fear response. NIMH scientists have also found a possible genetic component: through research on mice, they have found a gene that relates to fearfulness (1). Additionally, hormones may play a role, specifically fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels in women (4). Environment may also be important, as people with social anxiety may learn the behavior from watching and patterning those around them (1). Treatment may include the use of medications such as selective seretonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), monamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and beta blockers specifically for performance phobias. Individuals may also benefit from behavioral therapy, which involves gradual exposure to feared situations (1). However, some believe that the category of social phobia or social anxiety is not so clear cut. For example, the diagnosis of social anxiety can be difficult because of its co occurrence with ... Marywood s Core Values In What Teachers Make And A Good Man I have decided to compare the novel A Good Man with the poem What Teachers Make because both have similar and different ways of showing some of Marywood s Core Values. I find teen pregnancy interesting because it is something that until recently was not heard of all the time. Over the past year s teen pregnancy has more or less become a norm around the world. When a teenager becomes pregnant most of the time, it is a surprise to them, and they had not planned to be. The teen then has a big decision to make: keep the baby, give the baby up for adoption or abort the baby (Planned Parenthood, 2017). If they choose to keep the baby or give the baby up for adoption, they need to receive prenatal care. In cases where the teen has not planned to become pregnant, they have not had any care trying to prepare for the baby so nutrition during a pregnancy is extremely important. Many pregnant teens are willing to change their nutrition to improve the chances of delivering a healthy child (Montgomery, 2003). Most teens are aware that nutrition during pregnancy is important. However, these teens do not have the knowledge of nutrition needed during pregnancy. When a teenager finds out that they are pregnant, they need to start prenatal care. They first need to go to the doctor to have a check up to make sure both them, and the baby are healthy (Montgomery, 2003). Teen pregnancies have many risks compared to adult pregnancies. Wolfram Syndrome is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the mutation of this gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and deafness. Normally the WFS1 gene produces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium in the cells, but when it is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function (AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015). When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body will trigger apoptosis or dead of their own cells which then cause the complications that are known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is altered. Wolframin is also important within many parts of the body affecting systems like our bones, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease that is found in one out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of one in 354 it is important to recognize the debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al. 2012).
