Trope In Slaughterhouse Five
Similar to Hosseini, Vonnegut in his novel Slaughterhouse Five begets the Tralfamadorians who act as
the Hermit Guru. The Hermit Guru character trope could be described as a character who lives away
from society and contains powers/wisdom to bring enlightenment. As stated before the
Tralfamadorians fit this description. For example, Vonnegut states, Earth can t be detected from
Tralfamadore, as far as that goes. They re both very small. They re very far apart (Vonnegut 30). As
brought about by Vonnegut, the Tralfamadorians live away from society, so far that they do not even
live on planet Earth, just as the Hermit Guru character trope. In addition, for the enlightenment trait,
Vonnegut grants Tralfamadorians the ability to, see in four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vonnegut explains how Billy is weak by comparing him to an insect. A Tralfamadorian explains to
Billy that, we are... trapped in the amber of this moment after asking Billy if [he] ever seen bugs
trapped in amber (Vonnegut 77). The Tralfamadorians are telling Billy that he is as helpless as a bug
encased in amber. Billy s outlandish admiration for his captors further proves Billy s weak mindedness.
The Tralfamadorians take advantage of Billy as he is so willing to accept their ideas. Because of this,
Billy embraces a sadistic ideology where nothing actually matters. For example, Vonnegut grants Billy
warrant to state, Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the
Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is So it goes (Vonnegut 27). Throughout the story the
reader reads Billy say So it goes many times and it just means that Billy no longer cares for life or the
ones that he loves because he truly believes the person is just fine in plenty of other moments
(Vonnegut 27). The Tralfamadorians taught him to not care. Vonnegut s message is to not just be an
acolyte because what the higher power could be teaching you could be very harmful to you and to
others. Vonnegut uses the powerful Tralfamadorians to contrast the weak Billy and the relationship acts
as an example of the negative effects of following

Research Proposal On Quality Management
A PROPOSAL FOR A QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON CONTINUOUS
MISSING OF CUSTOMER APPOINTMENTS IN OUR BEAUTY CENTER
Session 2, 2017
NAME: Modhi Almuhanna
Student number: 43761062
Introduction:
The Quality management is a comprehensive and a well thoroughly considered approach that uses the
client s feedback to improve the quality of products and administrations. The investigation seeks to
write and give attention of the proposals to improve the quality of service that consumers get when
they visit the center. Missing customer appointments:
It has been noticed that most of the customer appointments have been missing in the center s system.
The error was noted when the clients who came for service were either missing or the wrong date. In
the system, it showed the customer number, but there was no more information about the services they
want or which time.
Cause of the error:
To identifying and looking to rectify an error, it has to investigate the root source of the predicament.
The procedure is alluded to as the root cause scrutiny. The rationale of the investigation is to annihilate
or correct the source, thus preventing the inveterate of the predicament. The procedure should be done
on an everyday basis. The application of new processes that are well known to produce a methodical
and affirmed progress to the identification, indulgent and determination of main causes is what is
alluded to as root source analysis.

Anxiety in Teens Essay
An individual that has strives to live with anxiety or an anxiety disorder faces many struggles daily
because of the feelings the conditions stimulate. There are an infinite amount of symptoms, causes, and
consequences, but an equal amount of treatment options and ways to handle anxiety. Anxiety disorders
can be viewed as general or extremely specific, but all in all each one affects the life of a person living
with one or knowing someone who struggles with it. In regards to teenagers specifically, between three
and five percent children and adolescents in the United States have some sort of anxiety disorder (Foa

In teens, many symptoms primarily include wariness, nervousness, muscle tension or cramps, and
stomach or headaches (AACAP). Having an anxiety disorder brings about exposure to these symptoms
daily, all of which are unfavorable.
There are many common types and conditions of anxiety disorders that can be diagnosed based on the
symptoms present. The four most prevalent anxiety disorders among teenagers include social anxiety,
generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder; many
other forms of anxiety exist such as phobias, and panic attacks (Foa and Andrews 3). In a teens life,
having anxieties such as social and panic attacks can form habitual actions such as not going anywhere
or doing specific things. Social anxiety particularly begins between late childhood and early teens (Foa
and Andrews 14). With this anxiety, fear is provoked when thinking about or interacting in a social
setting or situation. This discomfort can be specific or general to a certain idea or situation (Foa and
Andrews 13). Most types of anxiety disorders can coordinate to another. Like social anxiety,
generalized anxiety disorder can be directed principally a situations or nothing in particular (Foa and
Andrews 14). It can be challenging for teens to explain the source of their anguish especially if they
are not diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder is the most commonly

Federal Budget Essay
The federal budget is known as the notorious economic tank from which money is distributed to
various programs. The money used every fiscal year, which begins October 1st and ends September
30th the next year, belongs to the people. The government raises this money through taxes and they
spend it on national defense, Medicare, and social security. The federal budget is an exercise in making
choices, and those options will certainly affect individuals living in the U.S. These choices cause debt
to pile up on the government, who is struggling to make it disappear. The deficit and debt of a
government gauges how well it is being run and how well it has been run in the past. According to The
Economist the national debt is the total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are not any easy ways to cut spending on the military especially since we are in the middle of
fighting in Iraq. We can not just pull some troops or provide them with less weapons or supplies then
expect them to protect our country as well as they are now. We need a defense budget that matches the
new security challenges, not the threats of the last century. We need to recognize that a strong economy
is essential for providing the resources to meet future threats; addressing these long term debts will
keep our economy strong.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are winding down and that will help lower the defense spending by
almost $1 trillion over the next decade. The congress is realizing that they need to do some
restructuring and have already begun rearranging the military budget in response to austerity. Congress
conjured up a $630 billion defense appropriations bill that made plans to reduce civilian and contractor
personnel by 5 percent over the next five years and in return ramp up advanced weapons programs,
including drones, bombers and missiles says The Washington Post. The American Conservative

Self Reinventing On Social Networking Sites
Rhet 105 essay 3 Yongxin Li (Peter) Self Reinventing On Social Networking Sites A social networking
site, or SNS, is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who share
interests, activities, backgrounds or real life connections. (Wikipedia contributors) Social network sites
have been increasing at a great speed, and now there are around 1.79 billion social network sites users
(eMarketer), which means that more than 60% of internet users are using social network sites. Before
SNS comes into people s lives, self presentation on internet is regarded as a role playing game. People
did not have to follow the rules in real lives, and they could present themselves in any way they want.
However, with SNS, everyone is no more anonymous. On Facebook, my friends can see every photo I
like and every comment I make, and they all know that it is me, Yongxin Li, who likes the photo and
says these words. It gives me a feeling that everything on Facebook is real. However, I have also been
through some situations making me feel that maybe Facebook is not as real as I expected. For example,
I always post some pictures and articles about recent scientific breakthrough and academic discussions
on RenRen, a Chinese version Facebook. Gradually, my friends have an impression that I am a science
lover. One day, I found a silly but very funny joke on Renren, and I really loved it. However, I finally

What Are Some Examples Of Masculinity In Hemingway s Stories
In Hemingway s stories, there are many examples of masculinity and how it can affect a story. It could
affect how it s read, how people act, and even the outcome of the story. Masculinity is a very important
part of Hemingway s stories and it would be completely different without the aspect. In Hemingway s
stories, masculinity is usually portrayed in ways of bravery and stoicism. In The Snows of
Kilimanjaro, the main character is about to die and he is in his death bed. He goes on a journey to
redeem himself of everything he has done so that he can die peacefully. In A Day s Wait, the
protagonist is stoic in the face of death, in The Gambler, The Nun, and The Radio, the two people that
got shot were completely different in the way that one was cowering even though he wouldn t die from
the injury and the other one was facing the pain even though he had a low chance to come out of it
alive. The Short and Happy Life of Francis Macomber also portrayed acts of bravery, the main
character is brave enough to go on another hunt to redeem himself from his cowardice he had when he
was facing his foe. Masculinity is a big part of all these stories but it will be the same in each story.
They could all be different but even if it s a small part, it will still affect the story. In The Snows of
Kilimanjaro, the main character is going through death. Henry is dying from the gangrene Henry is

Maria And Tony
Just as Romeo finds himself in love with a girl from his enemy s family, so too does Tony. Both
characters must decide between their love for their girlfriends and their loyalty to their groups, and
both find themselves in fatal situations because of this inner conflict, Romeo committing suicide after
discovering Juliet s seemingly dead body and Tony being killed by revealing his whereabouts to Chino
in his emotional state after hearing the false news of Maria s death. This also reveals that the two
characters share the personality trait of passion, as, upon learning of the apparent deaths of their lovers,
they abandon all regard for personal safety and make the decision that they would rather die than live
without them. Similarly, Juliet and Maria are analogous to each other for many of the same reasons:
both are members of one feuding group who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

love by genuinely looking out for the young couples and what s best for them, offering their wisdom
even when the headstrong teenagers resent it. Though the situations of Romeo and Juliet and Tony and
Maria have slightly different results (Romeo and Juliet both committing suicide and Tony being killed
while Maria survives), the repercussions of their tragic romances are much the same. In the end, the
hatred between the feuding parties is forgotten, with both groups finally coming together over the
deaths of their own members. Ultimately, the theme of Shakespeare s original work remains the same

Analysis Of The Book The New Rules Of Retail By Lewis...
Book Review This paper is a review of the book The New Rules of Retail by Lewis and Dart, 2014.
The book was written on marketing and how organisations should change tactics of trade with time.
The reflections of the book will help us to find out how retail changes affect the market and trade. It
seems as if retail activities have gone through a circle of evolution; there is change in every practice.
There are distinct preferences that companies must meet both locally and internationally. Lewis and
Dart are retail gurus whose findings on the topic cannot easily be professionally assumed; the
submissions can help to advice a management about when and how to change trading plans. The aim
of this paper is to provide a professional review, evaluation and critical analysis of the book. According
to Lewis and Dart (2014), the world of retail is transforming by fundamentally each day. There are
quick technological shifts, globalisation as well as a tightly competitive market setting. These changes
have helped to bring consumers the desired products and services instantly. The availability of market
goods and services to consumers raises the expectations and demands. It is true that availability of a
variety of goods to consumers would change their behaviour. Individuals would order for more new
products which puts companies in competition for the best offer. Lewis and Dart believe that the
technological shifts may not be met by all companies; at least half will not meet the

Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains Essay
Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains
This report is about three species that inhabit the Wyoming plains. One of these species is the black
tailed prairie dog which inhabits nearly all of the U.S. and was at one time considered to be
endangered. The second is the black footed ferret which was thought to be extinct until a small colony
of these little predators was discovered on a ranch near Meeteetse Wyoming. The third and final
animal mentioned in this report is the Wyoming toad. These toads are becoming increasingly scarce in
the wild.
Cynomys ludovicianus or the black tailed prairie dog is actually a ground squirrel and not at all a dog.

When the predator is gone, a special all clear call informs family members that the danger is over. (San
Francisco Zoo)
The prairie dog is popularly characterized as being a nuisance by farmers and ranchers. This is mainly
due to the fact that they can significantly reduce stands of grass in livestock pastures. Some stockmen
claim that the removal of prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of
brush. This has had detrimental effects on the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage
prairie dogs might do. (San Francisco Zoo)
Mustela nigripes or the black footed ferret is a long yet small predator. The female black footed ferret
ranges in weight from 645 to 850 grams, while the weight of males ranges from 915 to 1125 grams.
These ferrets range in length from 380 to 600mm (head and body). (Mustela nigripes)
The black footed ferret mainly resides in the grasslands of North America just as the black tailed
prairie dog. Each ferret requires about 100 120 acres of space upon which to forage for food. (Mustela
nigripes) The ferret s primary diet consists of prairie dogs and other small rodents found in the
grasslands. A ferret can be found in the abandoned burrow of a prairie dog.
Ferrets are mostly active at night and are very solitary creatures except during the breeding season. The
lifestyle of a ferret s is similar

Negative Visualization Oliver Burkeman Summary
In Oliver Burkeman s essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization , he discusses how Negative
Visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman supports his
argument by describing Ottogen s experiment and how one spends more time in thinking how well
things will go instead of achieving one s goal due to one s lack of motivation.
Unlike positive visualization, Negative visualization is more likely to make someone happier as
Burkeman argues. Not only does negative visualization make one happier, but it is also some beneficial
to one s happiness. The first benefit he is Hedonic adaption. Hedonic adaptation is temporarily
happiness that is created until one is reminded of the loss. Burkeman then later explains the second
benefit to be the antidote of anxiety . The antidote of anxiety is the ... Show more content on

Reassurance is the action of confronting ones worries and facing the harsh truth of failure. I can
connect my story of reassurance with Burkeman`s argument that: we seek reassurance to. It was the
day before my senior prom and as excited I was to see everyone look stunning in their dresses and
tuxedos, I had this hollow pit in my stomach. I was going to ask my very good friend to be my date to
prom. Before I even considered him as my prom date, I had asked him if he had a date to prom. He
instantly responded: No, do you? No, I don t, but do you want to go together even though we are not a
couple yes! Let s go together but not as a date. By him reassuring that we were not going as a date I
knew that he was not my prom date and releasing the pit in my stomach. As Burkeman argues the
antidote of anxiety is only released by being reassured. I released all my anxiety of asking my good
friend to attend prom together but not as a couple, reassured me that he was not considering it as a date

Local Area Networks Are Hampered By The Cost, Performance,...
VLANs In the past, companies were hampered by the cost, performance, and security issues that are
associated with local area networks or LANs. LANs must be connected physically to switches which
means that each LAN must have its own switch (prtl.uhcl.edu, 2016, para. 13). The virtualized version
of the LANs, virtual local area networks (VLANs), allows users to invest in only one switch
(prtl.uhcl.edu, 2016, para. 13). The VLAN is used in the virtual data center environment to separate a
single LAN into more than one network while being physically connected to one switch. One
advantage of VLANs is that network administrators can now sort devices by whatever criteria they
require without physical location being an issue. Different VLANs can be set for different groups or
departments within the same LAN. Performance is improved because, when the LAN is broken up into
VLANs, it is not receiving broadcasts from all of the devices (certbros.com, 2015, para. 4). Cost is
decreased because separate switches are not required for VLANs. A security benefit is provided
because VLANs can be configured to accommodate the different security levels needed, and the
administrator can choose whether or not to allow the VLANs to communicate with each other
(certbros.com, 2015, para. 6). VRFs Virtualization is also used in the data center to acquire more
routing instances without acquiring more hardware (Santana, 2014. P. 90). This technology is known
as Virtual Routing and Forwarding

Great White Shark Research Paper
What do people think of when they hear Great White Shark? Maybe they think of bloodthirsty
creatures, or they think of the iconic Hollywood hit movie Jaws. But there is a growing number of
people who think of a vulnerable and declining species. To understand the mistaken sharks, you have
to understand their biology.
First off, sharks have many distinguishing physical characteristics. Like their iconic dorsal fins, A
common image of a shark is their dorsal fin cutting through the water. Then the most dangerous part of
the shark its teeth. With those teeth and a body weight of 5,940 to 7,040 pounds. A Great White can hit
like a truck. Then Great Whites can grow to 21 feet. Sharks can be fearsome creatures (Lineback
National Geographic). However sharks are misunderstood for being mindless bloodthirsty predators. A
Great White s diet consists of seals and sea lions mainly. When a shark sees a surfer it may look like a
seal or sea lion. So this can result in a shark attacking. The way a shark attacks is the shark will size up
its victim then will launch into action. The shark will come from a blind spot and will either hit it s
victim then bit. So when sharks do attack humans, it is rarely on purpose (McCosker World Book

Student Motivation Of Student Observation
For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers
from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and
teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every year
and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I
observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each
of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The
very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my
time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and
development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with
kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch
the high school students interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most
about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them
of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high
school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high
schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of
them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and
the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her
ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I
was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high
expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and
how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for
her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was

Group Counseling With South Asian Immigrant High School...
The article, Group counseling with South Asian immigrant high school girls: Reflection and
commentary of a group facilitator, focused on integrating South Asian girls into a new school in a new
country through group counseling. The first author was South Asian herself, therefore, she felt that she
was competent to work with these students. She explained that the South Asian people are collectivist
therefore; a group setting would match the student s cultural norms and values. The authors begin by
stating that the numbers of immigrant children in this country have grown 66 % between 1995 and
2002. This makes a huge impact on urban schools, where 95% of these immigrants attend school. The
authors also mention that the Asian American population is one of the fastest growing immigrant
population in the United States and stress that relationship building is an important factor in
acclimating to a new country. In addition, the authors provide a background of the South Asian culture
that the first author gathered in her experience in working with the South Asian adolescent girls. The
authors explain that South Asian is used to describe a variety of religions and nationalities that
originate from the Indian subcontinent. Some countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal,
and Pakistan. Moreover most South Asians practice Hinduism or Islam, but there are some who
practice Buddhism or Christianity. These differences may influence their language, socioeconomic

order to find the genetics, researchers and scientists will have to go into the brain.
Ten to fifteen percent of people in the U.S have learning disabilities with dyslexia being the most
common. Dyslexia has nothing to do with a person s intelligence just a different style of learning with

Carroll Sawyer, and the Confederate Song, God Save The South, by Earnest Halpin and Charles W.A.
Ellerbrock all share a common theme. War can inflict many different emotions when thinking about
war or being directly involved in a war. It doesn t matter if the emotions or shared within a society or
only kept to themselves, people still experience this. When war is present in one s mind, sadness can
be one of the first emotion that can be felt. In Bull Run, two characters can easily show this to us. Lily
Malloy, a Minnesota girl whose brother ran away to join the Civil War and Colonel Oliver ... Show

With this in mind, a not so shared emotion when it comes to war is pride. People often associate bad
emotions like anger and hate with wars, but there can be some good emotions like happy or hope.
Pride is can be positive and negative. Anyways, Bull Run illustrates the fact that war can be associated
with war. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband by yelling
(Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry. Instead, she
was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her husband will win.
Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B. Tilbury s regiment was
slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment were chasing chickens!
When someone has a lot of pride, they tend to underestimate their enemy and act over confident like
A.B. s regiment right now. When there is too much pride, this emotion turns into a bad thing like this
case, but when there is the right amount of pride, people can go

It is easy to dispose of in garbage after use and squashed down to a very small size for effortless

emergency room and day patient care rooms in the hospital. It provides basic protection and
absorbency while there are other sets that propose a range of supplementary features.
Serving as measure of infection control
The deluxe type of bed requires bed sheets made up of a combination of poly and tissue for attaining
the high level of strength and ability to absorb the moisture. These sheets and cushion covers are prone
to lesser stains and less probable to absorb spills ensuring that bed sheets do not change at regular
intervals of the patient admitted.
They also curb the spread of infection and assist in infection control in a hospital setting. The doctor
uses the pillow that comes pre folded and slides under the patient when the patient is up. It gives the
advantage of relaxing and patient feels comfortable while using

Whereas Triplett s work represented the first sport psychology research study in North
America, the first individual to do systematic sport psychology analysis was Coleman R.
Griffith, a doctoral student also at the University of Illinois (Cox et al., 1993). In the 1920s,
Griffith began to apply laboratory findings to real life sports situations and went into the field to make

on topics such as learning, personality, psychomotor skills, reaction times, and flexibility (Gould Pick,

Kate Weiner s Fly Away Home
Divorce isn t such a tragedy. A tragedy s staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the
wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce, states Jennifer Weiner, a New York Times
Bestselling author, in her novel, Fly Away Home. Although Weiner has a point in voicing that a
dispirited and forlorn relationship can corrupt the innocent mentality of children, it is vital that she also
considers the darker, more sinister side of divorce. To put the term divorce simply, it is what husband
and wife do together when they no longer wish to do anything together (Yantiss). If for any reason one
may feel as if their current marriage isn t right, isn t working out, for them, one way to solve that
problem would be divorce: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, about one in five women descend into poverty after divorce because of unequal
wages between the two genders. If one has children, they must pay for child support, a court ordered
payment to support the children of divorced families, in addition to other fees, including payment for a
separate house, or apartment, and other expenses if an adult has custody, or shares custody of their
children. Some will insist that this doesn t have much of an effect on richer couples, but it s crucial that
one remembers that both of the people involved in the divorce don t automatically stay the way they
are, even if they re rich and extremely wealthy. They won t both maintain the same standard of living
as they had before, so divorce actually does have a financial effect on everybody, no matter the richer
or the poorer the person is. Essentially, the income that used to support any household now must
stretch and break up to support two. The loss of wealth can severely damage a person s life, but not as
considerable as the depletion of their well being. The influence of a divorce on one s health is severe,
and may lead to depression, or even death. According to Christina Hetherington, a therapist and life
coach specialising in Relationship and Divorce Coaching, divorced men have death rates that are 250

In 1925, universal male suffrage was introduced, increasing the electorate from 3.3 to 12.5 million. Yet
as the left pushed for further democratic reforms, right wing politicians pushed for legislation to ban
organisations that threatened the state by advocating wealth distribution or political change. This
resulted in 1925 s Peace Preservation Law , which massively curtailed political freedom.
As the left disintegrated, ultra nationalism began to loom large. Japanese nationalism was born at the
end of the nineteenth century. During the Meiji period, industrialisation, centralisation, mass education
and military conscription produced a shift in popular allegiances. Feudal loyalties were replaced by
loyalty to the state, personified by the Emperor.
Why did japan make an alliance with germany
The two fascist powers, both being militarist, were greatly nationalistic and had the ability to annex
other nations. Japan, being discriminated against during the Paris Peace Conference and the

was how the nation would accomplish this task. Hitler s Germany centered, more or less, on gaining

Emma s Masculinity in Madame Bovary Essay
Set in the Victorian era of the 1800 s Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert exemplifies society s views
on the established gender roles of this time. Flaubert utilizes Emma Bovary s masculinity to accentuate
Emma s desire for control. Her desire for control extends from the social pressure of the period,
revealing her envy towards men. Flaubert undoubtedly depicts Emma s characteristics to have a
masculine undertone and throughout the novel her femininity deviates as her priority shifts. Emma s
lack of femininity translates to her relationships by maneuvering an interchanging role of a girlfriend
or boyfriend.
In Madame Bovary, Emma creates conspicuous goals based off romantic novels she reads. In reaching

Emma compares her opportunities and position in society to those of Leon. While Society encourages
him to become cultured, educated, and expand his horizons on the contrary women hinders in that
desire may only be just that, but a hopeful wish to be granted by their spouse. Her sadness, not only
derives from Leon s departure, but of her realization of a woman s bound role under the law and status.
Flaubert depicts Emma as having subtle masculine characteristics emphasizing her masculinity not
only mentally but physically as well. In some cases, Flaubert uses irony to characterize Emma s
masculine features. Yet her hand was not beautiful, perhaps not white enough, and a little hard at the
knuckles; besides, it was too long, with no soft inflections in the outlines (Flaubert 28) the narrator
describes Emma as lacking the soft subtle femininity that high class women have. The contrast of her
beauty lessens her femininity in this case making her appear more tusk and masculine. Emma s
femininity gets challenged on the pivotal day of the Victorian women s life. When the narrator
describes her on her wedding day, Emma s dress, too long, trailed a little on the ground; from time to
time she stopped to pull it up, and then delicately, with her gloved hands, she picked off the coarse
grass and the thistledown (Flaubert 18 19). On her wedding day, Emma s description walking down the
aisle diffidently wearing a dirty unfitted dress metaphorically portrays Emma

Philippine s Republic Act 9211, The Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, conducted two related important

A Solid Home Essay
Hello everyone! Welcome to our first meeting for the production of A Solid Home . I am very excited
about what we can create together and I want us to be able to get started right away. For this
production, our guiding concept is going to be Death can be livelier than life. Firstly, I want to start
with the set design. Now in the text, Garro states that the play is located in a room with stone walls,
and no windows or doors. Now, this will be the base of the play, however to express the concept I want
to liven the space up. I think that painting a window and curtains on the upstage wall would help create
a more welcoming space. This would also allow for interesting blocking as we could have the
characters looking out the window, daydreaming as the reminisce about their reincarnations. Next, I
want a minimalistic amount of furniture, and I want these to be on the more neutral side, coming in
colors of white, tan and light grey, as furniture has no life to it. The place should also look lived in,
should feel like a home, with pillows on the furniture and books and knickknacks on any tables. This
will allow the characters to stand out, as they are the life of the play and their home is more than just a
crypt. Next, talking about the characters, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

characters should never acknowledge when another character leaves. This is just another aspect of the
characters living their life. Lydia is the last character to disappear . When this happens, I want her to

Islam As A Religion And Saudis
As a Saudi Muslim, the two social identities I want to talk about are Islam as a religion and Saudis.
Religion is an organized set of beliefs, cultural systems and worldviews relating humanity to an order
of existence. Religion contains various laws and prohibitions that guide people in every day life.
Muslims who share the same religion see themselves having a communicative relationship with one
another. Interpersonal communication and social relationships are two way processes of exchanging
ideas and sharing concerns in a Muslim environment.

Men often wear Qamis when they want to go to the mosque.
In terms of symbols, Islam prohibits to wear symbols, however, it does not prohibit having religious
symbols at home, such as framed Suras (Verses) from the Quran (Islam s holy book) hanged against
the wall. Most of the practicing Muslims have framed Suras at their home. Nevertheless, Muslims do
not hang pictures of their prophet (Muhammad) on their walls because it is seen as prohibited in their
religion. In fact, any personification of any prophet is seen as prohibited. Muslims are good at interior
architecture, as it seen as beautiful and glorious. Muslims are known for the unique and artistic style in
interior design, which is influenced by the Gold Age of Islam when they were in Andalusia. Most of
the Muslim interior design is inspired from the Arabic calligraphy and the Quran.
In terms of sound, Islam has specific codes of behavior on the manner Muslims should speak and even
sound. Though only a few Muslims in Saudi Arabia speak slowly, Islam advocates to speak slowly and
softly, as it is a better and a likable way to communicate. Muslim Imams in Friday prayers encourage
the sender not to scream while transmitting a message so that the receiver understands the message
clearly and reply the same way. However, this aspect is not applied everywhere.
The Muslim attitude is an abstract value in Islam. Muslims are usually compassionate about their
religion and their prophet. Almost every aspect of life

Oedipus The King Jocasta Essay
She had an obligation to conduct such research, which could have been by starting further dialogue
with Oedipus to inquire into his background and ensure that he was indeed not her son. As a result, the
scars on Oedipus s ankles and his limp were sufficient evidence to put the responsibility on Jocasta to
further inquire into the matter before marrying Oedipus, and puts the blame on her for the marriage
that results. The fact that Oedipus s appearance resembled that of Jocasta s first husband, Laius, was
another piece of evidence that should have caused Jocasta to identify Oedipus as her son; this
combined with the fact that Jocasta did not ascertain her son s death was sufficient to obligate Jocasta

she wants him to [brush] the fear aside ( Jocasta: Mother and Wife ). This interpretation seems to solve

Bilingualism in the Classroom
It s never too early to start. This sentence may seem familiar, uttered by parents as they encourage their
children to begin piano lessons or go to junior basketball camps. Whatever the situation, it seems as
though starting to learn early affords a child some sort of advantage. It can most likely be assumed that
this quasi proverb translates to language as well: a language that is learned and used regularly from a
young age is probably better ingrained into the mind of its user than one learned late and used
sporadically. It has been made evident through research by Bialystok, Craik, and Luk that there are
immense neurological advantages that come from bilingualism. Also, as stated by Martha Nussbaum,

It is extremely important to encourage children to see the world on a large scale from many
perspectives, because the future of society will depend on it. If young people are able to see themselves
as not simply citizens of some local region or group but also, and above all, as human beings bound to
all other human beings by ties of recognition and concern (Nussbaum, 1998), they will be more open
minded and willing to accept diversity among people. Learning a language requires a person to really
delve into a culture, to understand how and why the people of that culture communicate in such ways.
Although learning a language is not equivalent to living in a culture, the former can undoubtedly afford
some insight into the latter. For example, whereas in English we have very few words for snow and
ice, in the Saami language, spoken in Scandinavia, there exist several specific words for different types
of snow and situations in which snow and ice appear (Magga, 2006). To understand why, it requires
exploring the culture of Saami language speakers. It becomes clear, upon investigation, that knowledge
of snow and ice conditions [are] a necessity for subsistence and survival in the arctic and sub arctic
areas, where the Saami language is spoken (Magga, 2006). This aspect of life is made evident through
the language; without even being immersed in the culture it

  • 2. Trope In Slaughterhouse Five Similar to Hosseini, Vonnegut in his novel Slaughterhouse Five begets the Tralfamadorians who act as the Hermit Guru. The Hermit Guru character trope could be described as a character who lives away from society and contains powers/wisdom to bring enlightenment. As stated before the Tralfamadorians fit this description. For example, Vonnegut states, Earth can t be detected from Tralfamadore, as far as that goes. They re both very small. They re very far apart (Vonnegut 30). As brought about by Vonnegut, the Tralfamadorians live away from society, so far that they do not even live on planet Earth, just as the Hermit Guru character trope. Vonnegut explains how Billy is weak by comparing him to an insect. A Tralfamadorian explains to Billy that, we are... trapped in the amber of this moment after asking Billy if [he] ever seen bugs trapped in amber (Vonnegut 77). The Tralfamadorians are telling Billy that he is as helpless as a bug encased in amber. Billy s outlandish admiration for his captors further proves Billy s weak mindedness. The Tralfamadorians take advantage of Billy as he is so willing to accept their ideas. Because of this, Billy embraces a sadistic ideology where nothing actually matters. For example, Vonnegut grants Billy warrant to state, Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is So it goes (Vonnegut 27). Throughout the story the reader reads Billy say So it goes many times and it just means that Billy no longer cares for life or the ones that he loves because he truly believes the person is just fine in plenty of other moments (Vonnegut 27). The Tralfamadorians taught him to not care. Vonnegut s message is to not just be an acolyte because what the higher power could be teaching you could be very harmful to you and to others. Vonnegut uses the powerful Tralfamadorians to contrast the weak Billy and the relationship acts as an example of the negative effects of following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Wikipedia contributors) Social network sites have been increasing at a great speed, and now there are around 1.79 billion social network sites users (eMarketer), which means that more than 60% of internet users are using social network sites. People did not have to follow the rules in real lives, and they could present themselves in any way they want. However, with SNS, everyone is no more anonymous. On Facebook, my friends can see every photo I like and every comment I make, and they all know that it is me, Yongxin Li, who likes the photo and says these words. It gives me a feeling that everything on Facebook is real. However, I have also been through some situations making me feel that maybe Facebook is not as real as I expected. For example, I always post some pictures and articles about recent scientific breakthrough and academic discussions on RenRen, a Chinese version Facebook. Gradually, my friends have an impression that I am a science lover. One day, I found a silly but very funny joke on Renren, and I really loved it. However, I finally did not share it. It could affect how it s read, how people act, and even the outcome of the story. Masculinity is a very important part of Hemingway s stories and it would be completely different without the aspect. In Hemingway s stories, masculinity is usually portrayed in ways of bravery and stoicism. In The Snows of Kilimanjaro, the main character is about to die and he is in his death bed. He goes on a journey to redeem himself of everything he has done so that he can die peacefully. In A Day s Wait, the protagonist is stoic in the face of death, in The Gambler, The Nun, and The Radio, the two people that got shot were completely different in the way that one was cowering even though he wouldn t die from the injury and the other one was facing the pain even though he had a low chance to come out of it alive. The Short and Happy Life of Francis Macomber also portrayed acts of bravery, the main character is brave enough to go on another hunt to redeem himself from his cowardice he had when he was facing his foe. Masculinity is a big part of all these stories but it will be the same in each story. They could all be different but even if it s a small part, it will still affect the story. Both characters must decide between their love for their girlfriends and their loyalty to their groups, and both find themselves in fatal situations because of this inner conflict, Romeo committing suicide after discovering Juliet s seemingly dead body and Tony being killed by revealing his whereabouts to Chino in his emotional state after hearing the false news of Maria s death. This also reveals that the two characters share the personality trait of passion, as, upon learning of the apparent deaths of their lovers, they abandon all regard for personal safety and make the decision that they would rather die than live without them. Similarly, Juliet and Maria are analogous to each other for many of the same reasons: both are members of one feuding group who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the situations of Romeo and Juliet and Tony and Maria have slightly different results (Romeo and Juliet both committing suicide and Tony being killed while Maria survives), the repercussions of their tragic romances are much the same. • 9. It seems as if retail activities have gone through a circle of evolution; there is change in every practice. There are distinct preferences that companies must meet both locally and internationally. Lewis and Dart are retail gurus whose findings on the topic cannot easily be professionally assumed; the submissions can help to advice a management about when and how to change trading plans. The aim of this paper is to provide a professional review, evaluation and critical analysis of the book. According to Lewis and Dart (2014), the world of retail is transforming by fundamentally each day. There are quick technological shifts, globalisation as well as a tightly competitive market setting. These changes have helped to bring consumers the desired products and services instantly. The availability of market goods and services to consumers raises the expectations and demands. It is true that availability of a variety of goods to consumers would change their behaviour. Individuals would order for more new products which puts companies in competition for the best offer. One of these species is the black tailed prairie dog which inhabits nearly all of the U.S. and was at one time considered to be endangered. The second is the black footed ferret which was thought to be extinct until a small colony of these little predators was discovered on a ranch near Meeteetse Wyoming. (San Francisco Zoo) The prairie dog is popularly characterized as being a nuisance by farmers and ranchers. This is mainly due to the fact that they can significantly reduce stands of grass in livestock pastures. Some stockmen claim that the removal of prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of brush. This has had detrimental effects on the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage prairie dogs might do. (San Francisco Zoo) Mustela nigripes or the black footed ferret is a long yet small predator. The female black footed ferret ranges in weight from 645 to 850 grams, while the weight of males ranges from 915 to 1125 grams. These ferrets range in length from 380 to 600mm (head and body). Negative Visualization Oliver Burkeman Summary In Oliver Burkeman s essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization , he discusses how Negative Visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman supports his argument by describing Ottogen s experiment and how one spends more time in thinking how well things will go instead of achieving one s goal due to one s lack of motivation. • 12. Local Area Networks Are Hampered By The Cost, Performance,... VLANs In the past, companies were hampered by the cost, performance, and security issues that are associated with local area networks or LANs. LANs must be connected physically to switches which means that each LAN must have its own switch (prtl.uhcl.edu, 2016, para. 13). The virtualized version of the LANs, virtual local area networks (VLANs), allows users to invest in only one switch (prtl.uhcl.edu, 2016, para. 13). The VLAN is used in the virtual data center environment to separate a single LAN into more than one network while being physically connected to one switch. One advantage of VLANs is that network administrators can now sort devices by whatever criteria they require without physical location being an issue. Different VLANs can be set for different groups or departments within the same LAN. Performance is improved because, when the LAN is broken up into VLANs, it is not receiving broadcasts from all of the devices (certbros.com, 2015, para. 4). Cost is decreased because separate switches are not required for VLANs. A security benefit is provided because VLANs can be configured to accommodate the different security levels needed, and the administrator can choose whether or not to allow the VLANs to communicate with each other (certbros.com, 2015, para. 6). VRFs Virtualization is also used in the data center to acquire more routing instances without acquiring more hardware (Santana, 2014. P. 90). • 16. Student Motivation Of Student Observation For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch the high school students interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. • 28. Kate Weiner s Fly Away Home Divorce isn t such a tragedy. A tragedy s staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce, states Jennifer Weiner, a New York Times Bestselling author, in her novel, Fly Away Home. Although Weiner has a point in voicing that a dispirited and forlorn relationship can corrupt the innocent mentality of children, it is vital that she also considers the darker, more sinister side of divorce. To put the term divorce simply, it is what husband and wife do together when they no longer wish to do anything together (Yantiss). If for any reason one may feel as if their current marriage isn t right, isn t working out, for them, one way to solve that problem would be divorce: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a matter of fact, about one in five women descend into poverty after divorce because of unequal wages between the two genders. If one has children, they must pay for child support, a court ordered payment to support the children of divorced families, in addition to other fees, including payment for a separate house, or apartment, and other expenses if an adult has custody, or shares custody of their children. Some will insist that this doesn t have much of an effect on richer couples, but it s crucial that one remembers that both of the people involved in the divorce don t automatically stay the way they are, even if they re rich and extremely wealthy. They won t both maintain the same standard of living as they had before, so divorce actually does have a financial effect on everybody, no matter the richer or the poorer the person is. Essentially, the income that used to support any household now must stretch and break up to support two. The loss of wealth can severely damage a person s life, but not as considerable as the depletion of their well being. The influence of a divorce on one s health is severe, and may lead to depression, or even death. According to Christina Hetherington, a therapist and life coach specialising in Relationship and Divorce Coaching, divorced men have death rates that are 250 percent higher than married ... Major Luxon met with Mr. and Mrs. Luxon for about an hour. Mr. Rowland then asked the Major to follow him. Major Luxon shrugged and thought, why not? The two men headed out to one of the many barns on the property. Mr. Rowland swung open one of the doors, You think this will help you? Mr. Rowland asked Major Luxon. The barn was filled from top to bottom with wheat and corn. We had a bumper crop this year and it seems to be all going to waste, Mr. Rowland told the Major. In 1925, universal male suffrage was introduced, increasing the electorate from 3.3 to 12.5 million. Yet as the left pushed for further democratic reforms, right wing politicians pushed for legislation to ban organisations that threatened the state by advocating wealth distribution or political change. This resulted in 1925 s Peace Preservation Law , which massively curtailed political freedom. As the left disintegrated, ultra nationalism began to loom large. Japanese nationalism was born at the end of the nineteenth century. During the Meiji period, industrialisation, centralisation, mass education and military conscription produced a shift in popular allegiances. Feudal loyalties were replaced by loyalty to the state, personified by the Emperor. Why did japan make an alliance with germany The two fascist powers, both being militarist, were greatly nationalistic and had the ability to annex other nations. Japan, being discriminated against during the Paris Peace Conference and the Washington Conference, desired an opportunity to prove its power to the world, and the conquering was how the nation would accomplish this task. • 31. Emma s Masculinity in Madame Bovary Essay Set in the Victorian era of the 1800 s Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert exemplifies society s views on the established gender roles of this time. Flaubert utilizes Emma Bovary s masculinity to accentuate Emma s desire for control. Her desire for control extends from the social pressure of the period, revealing her envy towards men. Flaubert undoubtedly depicts Emma s characteristics to have a masculine undertone and throughout the novel her femininity deviates as her priority shifts. Emma s lack of femininity translates to her relationships by maneuvering an interchanging role of a girlfriend or boyfriend. Emma compares her opportunities and position in society to those of Leon. While Society encourages him to become cultured, educated, and expand his horizons on the contrary women hinders in that desire may only be just that, but a hopeful wish to be granted by their spouse. Her sadness, not only derives from Leon s departure, but of her realization of a woman s bound role under the law and status. Flaubert depicts Emma as having subtle masculine characteristics emphasizing her masculinity not only mentally but physically as well. In some cases, Flaubert uses irony to characterize Emma s masculine features. Yet her hand was not beautiful, perhaps not white enough, and a little hard at the knuckles; besides, it was too long, with no soft inflections in the outlines (Flaubert 28) the narrator describes Emma as lacking the soft subtle femininity that high class women have. The contrast of her beauty lessens her femininity in this case making her appear more tusk and masculine. Emma s femininity gets challenged on the pivotal day of the Victorian women s life. When the narrator describes her on her wedding day, Emma s dress, too long, trailed a little on the ground; from time to time she stopped to pull it up, and then delicately, with her gloved hands, she picked off the coarse grass and the thistledown (Flaubert 18 19). • 33. A Solid Home Essay Hello everyone! Welcome to our first meeting for the production of A Solid Home . I am very excited about what we can create together and I want us to be able to get started right away. For this production, our guiding concept is going to be Death can be livelier than life. Firstly, I want to start with the set design. Now in the text, Garro states that the play is located in a room with stone walls, and no windows or doors. Now, this will be the base of the play, however to express the concept I want to liven the space up. I think that painting a window and curtains on the upstage wall would help create a more welcoming space. This would also allow for interesting blocking as we could have the characters looking out the window, daydreaming as the reminisce about their reincarnations. Next, I want a minimalistic amount of furniture, and I want these to be on the more neutral side, coming in colors of white, tan and light grey, as furniture has no life to it. The place should also look lived in, should feel like a home, with pillows on the furniture and books and knickknacks on any tables. This will allow the characters to stand out, as they are the life of the play and their home is more than just a crypt. Next, talking about the characters, I have ... This is just another aspect of the characters living their life. Lydia is the last character to disappear . When this happens, I want her to look and smile at the audience and right when she starts to go down the trap door, the lights will cut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion is an organized set of beliefs, cultural systems and worldviews relating humanity to an order of existence. Religion contains various laws and prohibitions that guide people in every day life. Muslims who share the same religion see themselves having a communicative relationship with one another. Interpersonal communication and social relationships are two way processes of exchanging ideas and sharing concerns in a Muslim environment. Saudis are the people of Saudi Arabia. In terms of symbols, Islam prohibits to wear symbols, however, it does not prohibit having religious symbols at home, such as framed Suras (Verses) from the Quran (Islam s holy book) hanged against the wall. Most of the practicing Muslims have framed Suras at their home. Nevertheless, Muslims do not hang pictures of their prophet (Muhammad) on their walls because it is seen as prohibited in their religion. In fact, any personification of any prophet is seen as prohibited. Muslims are good at interior architecture, as it seen as beautiful and glorious. Muslims are known for the unique and artistic style in interior design, which is influenced by the Gold Age of Islam when they were in Andalusia. Most of the Muslim interior design is inspired from the Arabic calligraphy and the Quran. In terms of sound, Islam has specific codes of behavior on the manner Muslims should speak and even sound. Though only a few Muslims in Saudi Arabia speak slowly, Islam advocates to speak slowly and softly, as it is a better and a likable way to communicate. Muslim Imams in Friday prayers encourage the sender not to scream while transmitting a message so that the receiver understands the message clearly and reply the same way. However, this aspect is not applied everywhere. The Muslim attitude is an abstract value in Islam. Muslims are usually compassionate about their religion and their prophet. • 35. Oedipus The King Jocasta Essay She had an obligation to conduct such research, which could have been by starting further dialogue with Oedipus to inquire into his background and ensure that he was indeed not her son. As a result, the scars on Oedipus s ankles and his limp were sufficient evidence to put the responsibility on Jocasta to further inquire into the matter before marrying Oedipus, and puts the blame on her for the marriage that results. The fact that Oedipus s appearance resembled that of Jocasta s first husband, Laius, was another piece of evidence that should have caused Jocasta to identify Oedipus as her son; this combined with the fact that Jocasta did not ascertain her son s death was sufficient to obligate Jocasta to further inquire into the background of Oedipus. An interpretation of this is that Jocasta realized the truth and attempts to have Oedipus accept it as well; she wants him to [brush] the fear aside ( Jocasta: Mother and Wife ). This interpretation seems to solve the puzzle as to how Jocasta had an overwhelming amount of evidence to realize that Oedipus was her son and still never revealed the truth to Oedipus; whether this interpretation is true or not, it still shows Jocasta s ignorance and puts her at fault for the ... This sentence may seem familiar, uttered by parents as they encourage their children to begin piano lessons or go to junior basketball camps. Whatever the situation, it seems as though starting to learn early affords a child some sort of advantage. It can most likely be assumed that this quasi proverb translates to language as well: a language that is learned and used regularly from a young age is probably better ingrained into the mind of its user than one learned late and used sporadically. It has been made evident through research by Bialystok, Craik, and Luk that there are immense neurological advantages that come from bilingualism. It is extremely important to encourage children to see the world on a large scale from many perspectives, because the future of society will depend on it. If young people are able to see themselves as not simply citizens of some local region or group but also, and above all, as human beings bound to all other human beings by ties of recognition and concern (Nussbaum, 1998), they will be more open minded and willing to accept diversity among people. Learning a language requires a person to really delve into a culture, to understand how and why the people of that culture communicate in such ways. Although learning a language is not equivalent to living in a culture, the former can undoubtedly afford some insight into the latter. For example, whereas in English we have very few words for snow and ice, in the Saami language, spoken in Scandinavia, there exist several specific words for different types of snow and situations in which snow and ice appear (Magga, 2006). To understand why, it requires exploring the culture of Saami language speakers. It becomes clear, upon investigation, that knowledge of snow and ice conditions [are] a necessity for subsistence and survival in the arctic and sub arctic areas, where the Saami language is spoken (Magga, 2006). This aspect of life is made evident through the language; without even being immersed in the culture it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bryson s purpose is to indicate the contrast between Luxembourg and American cities, specifically, New York City. Bryson begins his story by recounting his first day in Luxembourg. He recalled his experience by saying, I felt like someone stepping out of doors for the first time. Bryson felt like this because countless things in Luxemburg were different than what American cities have to offer.
