Pape John s Case
It is imperative that Papa John s make long term strategic decisions so that they can continue to
compete in the restaurant industry. For one thing, to be successful in a competitive and ever
changing business environment, corporations will have to outperform others by increasing
globalization, improve the customer experience, have flexible and efficient operations, hire talent,
as well as, have advanced technology. In fact, in the pizzaindustry, Americans are eating 350 slices
of pizza every second, and if Pape John s does not keep up with competitors, they will lose profits
and their customer base (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland, 2016). For example, consumers
are becoming health conscious, which is causing a decline in the demand

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cold Calling
Cold calling is not dead. Marketing Automation gave its new life! Now cold calling is beloved by
both salespeople and lead, super effective and personal. Read how to make it that way.
Love hate relationship
Marketers used to have love hate relationship with cold calling: while appreciating unique
relationship with lead and having a stage for their persuasion skills, they also loathe stress
involved, waste of time, lottery in calling and impossibility to prepare well for the talk (as you
don t know much about the person you call). But all disadvantages of cold calling have been
removed with emergence of Marketing Automation.

The Three Branches Of The Government
The Three Branches of the Government The Government has three branches for law making.
When a law is being created, it starts at the Legislative, and then gets passed to the Executive
branch, then to the Judicial branch. Each branch has their own area of the law that they look at.
In the end, it is decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it
starts at the Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate
and the House of Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from
each state. Once elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known
as the head of Senate, but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve
the recommendations made by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts,
and other posts. All the Senate must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of
Representatives, there are 435 representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives
depending on the population. An example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New
York would have more representatives because the population is much bigger in the busy state
then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided by the yearly Census. If it shifts, a representative
could be added or subtracted. The representatives elected, will serve a two year term. They also
elect the Speaker of the House, who is the head. . The

Minority Student Diversity
Abstract
Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling,
attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost
of enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative
action or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students
graduating has also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination
legally ended more than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of
minority people in the United States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does
not work in their favor has continued although it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White students represent 75% of the students at the top 468 colleges in the country even though
they are only 62% of the country s college age population (Fletcher, 2013). On the other hand 67%
of black students and 75% of Latino students attend open access colleges. Black and Latino
students make up 37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s
top colleges while making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although
black and Latino students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools
necessary to graduate and succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and
Latino students with an A averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with
22% of white students (Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The
higher education system is colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a
systematic barrier to opportunity for many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college
qualified but tracked into overcrowded and under funded colleges, where they are less likely to
develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013). Carnevale further explains that the issue is not
particularly with the students but the system that does not support them. Michael Dannenberg,
director of higher education and education finance policy at the Education Trust, noted What
individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world between a student graduating
or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. Demography is not destiny, and what colleges do
matters (Roach,

Hunger of Memory
Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard RodrГguez
Hunger of Memory is an autobiography of the writer Richard RodrГguez and his transition from
youth to manhood told through a series of recollected stories. The premise of his writing was
centered mainly on his struggle to maintain both his Mexican heritage and closeness to his Spanish
speaking family, while at the same time being assimilated into American culture and obtaining an
advanced education. Within the book Richard RodrГguez illustrates his contempt for affirmative
action and bilingual education, two practices that had directly burdened his life while growing up.

One significant point in his life was when he worked in construction for a summer. This was the
first time he allowed his skin to become dark. He was astonished to learn that many of his
colleagues had college diplomas. They did not fit into his preconception that all workers were
poor because in fact, many of them were middle to upper class. Following that summer, he
declared the curse of physical shame was broken by the sun; I was no longer ashamed of my body.
In 1967 African American civil rights leaders brought attention to the mediocre education that black
students in high school were receiving and how it was not properly preparing them for college. This
also sparked Hispanic American activists to complain that there were not enough Hispanics
attending college, concluding that this too was because of racism. Soon after many African
American and Hispanic American sit ins, protests and marches for change in the school systems,
RodrГguez was offered numerous financial and academic opportunities to help carry him through
his college career.
After graduating from college, RodrГguez went on to find himself a teaching job, though many
schools ended up proactively seeking him out for employment without his prior inquiry. An
overwhelming wave of career opportunities came flooding towards him, hailing from

Soil Erosion And Vegetation Erosion
What is Soil Erosion, Types of Soil Erosion, Causes of Soil Erosion
Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process in which the top layer of the soil washes away that
affects all landforms which can occur due to heavy rains, cyclone, typhoons, hurricanes, twisters,
animals, human activities etc. In agriculture, soil erosion denotes to the wearing away of a field s
topsoil by the natural physical forces of water and wind) or through forces associated with farming
activities such as tillage.
In Erosion, there are three major phenomenon that takes place soil detachment, movement and
deposition. Topsoil, which is high in organic matter, fertility and soil life, is relocated elsewhere
on site where it builds up over time or is carried ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of hill slope erosion largely depends on how the land is used. Sheet erosion occurs
when a thin layer of topsoil is removed over a whole hillside paddock and may not be readily
noticed. Rill erosion occurs when runoff water forms small channels as it concentrates down a
slope. These rills can be up to 0.3m deep. If they become any deeper than 0.3m they are referred to
as gully erosion.
Scalding:
Scalding can occur when wind and water erosion removes the top soil and exposes saline soils.
Raindrop impact alone can result in large amounts of soil being moved. However water or wind
moving over the surface will remove more soil, and contribute to sheet, rill and gully erosion.
Erosion also tends to remove the lighter, smaller soil particles first (such as clay and silt), leaving
fine and coarse sand behind.
Gully Erosion:
Gully erosion happens when runoff concentrates and flows strongly enough to detach and move
soil particles. For example, a waterfall may form, with runoff picking up energy as it plunges
over the gully head. Gullies may develop in watercourses or other places where runoff
concentrates. This type of erosion is highly visible and affects soil productivity, restricts land use,
and can damage roads, fences and buildings. The depth of the gully developed can range from 2m
up to 15 m.
Tunnel Erosion:
Tunnel erosion is the removal of subsoil. When water penetrates through a soil crack or

John Tammy states Robots will ultimately be the biggest job creators simply because
aggressive automation will free us up to do new work by virtue of it erasing toil that was once
essential ( Why Robots Will Be The Biggest Job Creators In World History par.3). According to
John Tammy robots will be the biggest reason why many people will have jobs. Robots will
create a lot of jobs for employees that will free them from doing hard labor. When labor is hard
and it can cause employees to be exhausted which results from them to slow down production
which is bad for the company. Without robots, employees are stuck with doing hard and even
time consuming labor which can slow down production. Industrial robots can help a lot of
companies make labor less harsh. In the future, Robotic Technology will have an impact on
industries by creating new jobs. Bill Lydon states Automation has allowed us to compete on a
global basis and it has created jobs in Southwest Michigan. If it had not been for automation we
would not have beaten our Japanese, Chinese, and Mexican competitors ( IFR Press Release 1).
This quote shows that robots not only help companies create more employment, they can also help
companies beat competitors. Which are very beneficial to them because it can help companies build
a good reputation because of the quality and popularity of their products. Robotic Technology can

Squaws And Nobel Maidens
American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for
centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature.
American Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels
regarding American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have
done their best to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian
women are more complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their
respective tribes to include prominent positions.
Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian
relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men,
each contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans
immediately labeled these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers
failed to recognize that women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their
own set of tasks, but all tasks were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013).
The slave stereotype continued to be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the
term Squaw. It infected the way American Indian women were treated by white men not only in
the media, but in real life as well. In the media the Indian Squaw was routinely portrayed as a
household servant, or a hyper

How Does Roman Polanski Use Cinematic Techniques In The...
How does Polanski convey the notion of man s inhumanity through cinematic techniques in The
Pianist? Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s
inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski
presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through
skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of
them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting
in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II.
The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this
can be seen in an interior scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help
him. Bright, natural lighting is used to create a clear opposition between the world of the
protagonist and the Polish people who are considered more privileged. This... Show more content on

Freedom Of The Press, Freedom, And Freedom For Democracy
Freedom of the press is considered to be the most important component to a strong, fair, and
healthy democracy. This ideal is so valued that it is within the first amendment of the Constitution
of the United States Bill of Rights. Today still, a free press is often used as a measurement of the
freedom and democratic strength of a state, and is considered to be a guardian of the people
against democratic erosion or executive aggrandizement. Freedom of the press, however, is not
unproblematic. It can seem at many times that state intervention within or restriction of the press,
can solve some of the issues of a free press, but neither state control, nor an entirely unconstrained
press is perfect for democracy, or protection against the erosion of democracy. While a free press
does not guarantee the survival of a democracy, and the degree of freedom may need to be slightly
limited, it is without question, that a freer press is more likely to ensure the survival of democracy,
than a press that is controlled, or one that is experiences extreme constraints from the government.
A large threat to democracy is a press whose freedom is completely limited by the government.
According to a Washington Post Piece written by Daniel Hill and Yonatan Lupu, governmental
restriction of the press is correlated to weakened democratic institutions, an increase in human
rights violations, and less political competition (washingtonpost.com). State restrictions of the press

Paragraph 3: Japan s immigration problems
Since the opening of Japan from its self imposed seclusion policy in 1854, scholars have studied
aboard to acquire Western teachings. The immigration problem manifested once Japanese started
immigrating to Hawaii, Canada and US motivated by economic gains and evasion of military
services. In the year 1900 alone, 12000 Japanese entered United States and by 1910 the population
trebled to a total of 72,517. Although this bought a solution to their demand of cheap labour,
another set of problems arise in the form of economic, racial and anti Japanese agitation. Examples
included would be San Francisco School Board implemented segregation of education school

Brutus Funeral Speech Analysis
According to picturequotes.com, Words are powerful. They can create or they can destroy. So
choose your words wisely. In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, conspirators slay Julius
Caesar, resulting in anarchy in Rome. Some agree with the death, while others oppose the sudden
and violent death of Caesar. Unlike Antony, Brutus uses emotion rather than fact to sway the
Roman people that Caesars death is justified. Although Brutus puts rules in place so he can not talk
disrespectfully of the conspiracy, Antony, Caesar s closest friend, uses his slyness and manipulation
in his funeral speech to persuade the Romans. Although both characters use analogies, parallelism,
loaded words and hyperboles, their speeches convey very different... Show more content on

By making the Romans think about this topic, Brutus gains support and the audience feels like
the death of Caesar is justified. After Brutus finishes his speech, Antony speaks about his
opinion on the issue; unlike Brutus, Antony acts slyly and communicates a very manipulative
tone to persuade the Romans to rebel. Because of Antony s use of parallelism, he creates vivid
reasoning for his speech. He states, I come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him (III.ii.44). By
using this device, he shows the people of Rome that he isn t praising Caesar, he is putting the
leader to rest. This particular line creates a very manipulative tone, because his speech is all
about what great this Caesar has done and how he wants to rebel against the conspirators. Further
more, Antony uses a lot of irony to slyly get his point across. One example that he uses throughout
the speech is Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is a honorable man (III.ii.44). Because
of the repitition of this ironic statement, the meaning of it changes and intensifies. At first, his tone
was sincere, but as the speech progresses, you can see his sarcastic tone increases. Antony does
this because he has to use this device to surpass the regulations of Brutus, as well as make the
romans listen. Lastly, he uses personification to give life and further meaning to a word. Early in
the speech, Antony says, The evil

Essay On Gilgamesh
There is debate to whether or not the 12th tablet of the Epic of Gilgamesh belongs to the original
story. Gilgamesh showcases many tropes that we see in classic epics and novels of heros. He was
a man without fear, without a challenge, and at the beginning of the story he is painted out to be
more of a villain than a hero. This was do to his unrest, he need someone who could challenge him;
this would allow him to go down the path path of a hero. Enkiduwas created by the gods to

In Tablet 7 (60 62) they talk about the underworld as Enkidu is passing into the afterlife. Despite
that the text doesn t really strike fear into the reader about the underworld. He is turned into a

glorified more in the first 11 tablets. So if it was presented the way it was in the 12th tablet it
would take away from that aspect. If I tell you what I saw of the ways of the Netherworld, O sit
you down and weep! (194). This line alone depicts the differences in viewpoints in the first 11
tablets when compared to the 12th tablet. Its depicting the netherworld as a hellish place and

battle, the one who is left to rot in the fields. Enkidu states that the first man his love ones weep
and the second man has found no rest in the netherworld (195). This tablet tackles what happens to
these men of honor and fame and shows that regardless of what you do in the the human world, the
netherworld is ruthless to all. I begs the question is eternal glory and fame worth it in

John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty Essay
John Stuart Mill on Individual Liberty
Definition of Individual liberty
In his work On Liberty, Mill placed much emphasis on individual liberty and its vital role in
political society. To Mill, this phrase may be defined as the liberty of the individual to be the final
judge over his actions; to decide what is right and wrong and to act upon that standard. On a
secondary level, it also implies one s freedom to pursue one s own individuality. Mill believed in a
society in which each individual leads his own distinctive life according to his own unique talents;
unfettered by regulations upon thought, opinion, actions etc.
However, Mill asserts an important caveat; that which he calls `the very simple principle . He
writes, `That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Value of Individual Liberty
Indeed, Mill asserted that the cultivation of one s individuality should be the goal of human
existence. He wrote On Liberty as an argument against repressive laws which inhibit voluntary
association and suppress original ideas and ways of thinking, in a bid to protect the freedom of
the individual from stifling social conventions, oppressive legal controls and censorship. What is
the value of individual liberty that calls for it to be defended so fervently by Mill?
Individual Liberty and Truth
Firstly, Mill believes that individual liberty is instrumental in the attainment of truth. No one can
claim an infallibility of knowledge or a definite truth. Falsehoods are often sprinkled with specks of
truth; and truth may exists as half truths held by different people, and it is only through controversy
that the truth in the parts can be unified into a larger canvas of the ultimate truth. If one s actions
were to be censored completely, society would lose those specks of truth amongst the falsehoods,
which would be disadvantageous to society.
Furthermore, truth is very often not derived from the masses, but from the ideas of a select few. If
these people are silenced by repressive laws or mass opinion, society will be deprived of a chance

As reported by the U.S. Justice Department, there has been significant increase in incarcerated
African American males, in comparison to Hispanic and White males. It is believed that social
interaction, area of residency, and social networks have major influence on the increasing crime and
incarceration rates of African Americanmales. A larger portion of White males hold more
positions within the U.S. Judicial system than African American males who make up a larger
population of prison inmates and less involvement in legislation. This coincides with data
suggesting that African American s have lower percentages of receiving or obtaining higher
education, placing them in areas of low income and less opportunities. Social inequality in the
judicial system is questioned as well as demographics and economics will be researched in order
to provide in depth analysis of these national percentages of African Americans. Additional
research is conducted to investigate circumstances once an African American male enters the
criminal judicial system, and a generational cycle of crime. There is more knowledge and
potential opportunities within the prison system versus the lack of resources these prisoners
would feel they would have upon their release. The Judicial system appears to be White male

Essay On Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny has many topics to choose from, the Annexation and war with Mexico being one
of them. Annexation is the action of invading, most times it was about invading land. There were
more Americans living in Texas then there were Mexicans. Eventually Texas became an
independent republic in 1836, this simply added to the events leading up to the war with Mexico.
The purpose of this essay is to understand the Annexation of Texas, how the war with Mexico
began, what happened in the Mexican war, who contributed to the Annexation of Texas, and how all
this ties in with Manifest Destiny.

The Mexican war had many battles, while America won all battles fought, Mexico was adamant
in putting up a fight against America, as they were not willing to give up Texas to America. The
Mexican war lasted longer than Polk had hoped for, it lasted well over a year. While war
continued Polk feared that Taylor could not achieve tactical skills to defeat Mexico. Polk also
feared that Taylor would gain political power if he was successful with his tactic against
Mexico, and he did gain that political power that Polk feared he would have. While Polk was
fearful he also went ahead and made orders to move offensive tactics against New Mexico and
California. Kearny saw that America needed help, so he helped to bring American forces
together under his command, eventually they had complete control over California. Mexico
was still adamant not to be defeated by America. Polk and General Winfield Scott decided that
the war had gone on long enough. Scott advanced on the Mexicans, and while he did so he was
able to keep a low body count of his own soldiers, while he had never lost a battle before finally
seizing the Mexican capital. After seizing the Mexican capital, a New Mexican government took
control and was now willing to negotiate peace with America. Polk still was wanting to annex
more of Mexico, but wanted the war to be over so, he sent Nicholas Trist to decide on a settlement.

problem raised in On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner Is the amount of wealth spent by
consumers, and the effect of that. Consumers spend too much money and waste even more
when they throw food and clothing away. In the essay he explains the way of life as an
scavenger and how to demonstrate how people are able to live by the minimal resources
although most consumers continue to buy things they do not need and continue to waste
resources that may be valuable to others. Aside from food, he additionally describes the
emotional impact that living out of a dumpster can have on a person. He describes finding sad
things such as abandoned teddy bears, shredded wedding books, and pets lying in state. Seeing
the pets makes him think about his dog Lizbeth and how she is likely to end up with a dumpster
as her final resting place, as Eighner does not see himself having a place for her before she

Monovision Lens
Contacts May Be The Best Way To Deal With Your Presbyopia If you have presbyopia, you may
be frustrated by the need to wear reading glasses. If your vision has always been good, it may be
difficult to get used to wearing glasses since you don t need to wear them all the time. You may
constantly misplace your glasses and never seem to have them when you need to read
something. The solution to this problem could be contact lenses. You can get contacts for your
presbyopia, even if you have no other vision problem. Here s how it works. Monovision Lenses
Monovision contact lenses are one option when you have presbyopia. With these, one lens is
fitted for your far vision, and the other is fitted for your close vision. Your eyes grow
accustomed to the lenses and the result is you can see clearly far away and up close because
your eyes focus through the lens that s needed for what you re doing. One disadvantage of these
contacts is they may affect your depth perception. They might also make it difficult for you to see
well when you drive at night. Your optometrist can help you decide if monovision lenses are right
for you based on the results of your eye test and your lifestyle. One advantage of going with

problem as well as your presbyopia. It takes an adjustment period to get used to wearing bifocal
lenses, but eventually, you ll be able to adjust your vision from near to far without noticeable

In general, for defense side, minimizing opponent s batting average would be the priority. In
this case, the optimal choice for Leyland is to choose Porcello against Ortiz with lowest BA
.286. However, the situation here is not that simple. As Ortiz representing tie run, minimizing
his slugging rate would be more essential than his batting average because a long hit (slugging)
would cause greater damage; Tigers was 5 1 lead which was situation that single is more
acceptable than extra base hit because a single might only cause they lost 2 runs and a extra base
hit might cause 3 or 4 runs. Thus, considering minimum damage as priority, using Benoit would

And there is something dark about Rome when Titus enters in the opening scene. It s nighttime.
Titus is in the dark literally and figuratively for the first two scenes. Titus comes home unaware
of the corruption that he will face. The coliseum where he speaks proudly of sacrifice and
heroism is old and worn down. There is cheering, but there is no crowd present, making the
cheering sound artificial as if it were being played through a loudspeaker to make up for a public
that is too disillusioned or too desperate to care. (Taymor 06:48:28)
Even without the crowd, Titus s behavior in the coliseum expresses authority. His voice echoes
forcefully. He speaks the language of power patriotism, bravery and religious ritual. Titus does
not equivocate. At the beginning of the play, Titus reacts as if problems are black and white.
When Mutius dishonors Titus by defending his brother and sister, Titus simply kills him. He asks
Mutius right before killing him, Barr st me my way in Rome? as if Titus was most offended by

The Cultural Background Of Greek Myths
As Christopher Vogler quoted in The Writer s Journey, A myth... is a metaphor for a mystery
beyond human comprehension. It is a comparison that helps us understand, by analogy, some aspect
of our mysterious selves. Various countries have myths that connect to their personal background
culture. When it is compared, each myth has a different perspective of how things were created in
the daily life of a person. This includes countries such as Greece and Egypt and how their
backgrounds influences their cultures. Cultural backgrounds play an important role in society. One
moral lesson that is learned in Greek myths is about mother and daughter relationships. Egyptians
also included Ma at in their myths as a symbol of harmony and peace.... Show more content on

Every day, women, slaves, and children were required to stay indoors, while men had freedom
to go wherever they wanted. Women were responsible for household work and children were also
required to stay inside. Until the age of six, children were educated by their mother. Slaves were
treated well at times and they did as they were asked by their owners. (Lin and Don Donn, Greek
Mythology for kids ). Many Greek men spent their time observing and studying the planets and
how astronomy worked. This led to philosophers creating and studying mathematical proofs.
Literature and religious beliefs expanded as well as a new intake of inventions. People often told
stories orally since many were not educated of reading and writing. Many were undergoing
different perspectives of the world and how they viewed it (Pecorino, Greek_Culture ).
Additionally, a Greek myth such as the story of Demeter and Persephone was well known. Demeter
was a sister of Zeus, who grew and harvested crops. She loved her daughter, Persephone dearly.
As she did, the crops would grow healthier. When Persephone grew into a beautiful goddess,
Hades fell deeply in love with her. Hades was the god of the Underworld. He decided to kidnap
Persephone in his chariot and take her back to the underworld, where he locked her in a room. She
refused to eat a single grain of food and in complete desperation,

Should School Be A Mandatory Course On The Real World And...
Do you remember when we had our first job, and couldn t wait for that first check? I remember
mine. The money was all gone in 60 seconds, as I spent it all on things that didn t really matter.
We all wished we could ve prevented that spending habit. I regret every penny that I lost, while I
had no idea how to use money correctly. School districts need to focus on providing courses that
will better prepare students for real life issues. Therefore, there should be a mandatory course on,
Personal Finance, in high School, because as they are struggling to figure out who they are as they
are also oblivious to their own financial identity status, they don t know have the financial
discipline from home, on understanding how to manage their money, and the most financial issues
results to even academic failure. There are many ways to prepare these students for the real world
and money. First of all, if you remember that piggy bankthat we kept as kids, it was probably the
only understanding we had about money, growing up. We would put money in there, and we
weren t allowed to touch it unless it got full. And when that time came, the only way to access
our savings, is if we sacrificed that piggy, by throwing it on the ground, or hammering it to pieces.
We did just about anything to get that piggy bank to open. Well, because of the lack of knowledge
today, our reality of piggy banks as adults has diminished. Today that piggy has hole at the bottom.
We are able to dig into that

By Emily Dickenson, Sunsets, And Sunsets
In the poems, She Sweeps with Many Colored Brooms , by Emily Dickenson, and Sunsets , by Carl
Sandburg; the authors compare sunset to women. The beauty of the sunset is the central theme in
both poems; however, they each contain different ideas about sunset. For example, Dickenson,
focuses more on the beauty of sunsetcomparing it to a housewife. In turn, Sandburg, compares
sunset to a female dancer, and brings out the different kinds of ways the sun sets. In the poem, by
Emily Dickenson she compares sunset to a housewife. The poem cites She sweeps with many
colored brooms [line 1 2], the quote is portraying the true beauty of a housewife s chores. It also
indirectly refers to the rays of a sunset. A diligent womansews her own... Show more content on

During the harsh winter days, there are many storms that prompt the seas to overflow. This is
described in the next paragraph and the author uses dancing to symbolize the storms, and he
also is referring to more lively dancing. In the end, the sun sets both on the easy days, as well as
on the most difficult days unconditionally. Dickenson s and Sandburg s poem both compare
sunset to women. Dickenson s poem describes the beauty of the sun, and frames her idea by
describing a housewife sewing together colorful garments. The sun rises and sets every day, so
too does a diligent housewife take charge of her home all day. Sandburg s poem also connects
the beauty of the sun to the beauty of a female dancer. The poem links Ribbon at the ears, sashes
at the hips [line 8]; to the beauty of a female dancer, as well as to the splendor of sunset.
Additionally, the poem also states And here sleep. Tosses a little with dreams; [lines 9 10] to
show the challenging and accomplishing days of a dancer, just like the sunset. The poems both
compare sunset to beautiful women, who enhance their surroundings. There are several
differences in both poems. Dickenson uses colors in her poem, like purple, emerald, and amber.
She uses these colors to describe sunset and women. She also depicts a housewife and only gently
refers to sunset. However, Sandburg, uses words like dances, scarves ribbon and sashes which
refers to female dancers,

Casablanca Symbolism
Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz and produced by Hal B. Wallis, tells the story of
American cafГ© owner, Rick Blaine, and his dilemma between choosing between his love and
the greater good. The film takes place in Casablanca, Morocco amid the darkness and conflict of
Nazi occupation. Rick Blaine s drinking habits and his gradual increase in socialization with those
around him serve to allude to America s progressive participation in and support of the war against
the Nazis. Throughout the beginning of the motion picture, Rick refuses to have a drink with the
patrons. This fact is revealed when Carl, the headwaiter, says, Madame, he never drinks with
customers. Never. I have never seen it (Casablanca). The act of drinking with others... Show more

Rick s being surrounded by smoke symbolizes his being in the underworld, but his smoking the
cigarette alludes to his leaving the underworld (Class). As they burn, cigarettes get shorter, thus
symbolizing his impending departure from the underworld. This also suggests that the United
States time for neutrality is coming to an end, which was abruptly ended by the attack on Pearl
Harbor in 1941. In his first appearance, Rick has an empty whiskey glass next to his right hand.
Whiskey comes from the Gaelic word, uisce beatha, which means water of life (Class). Rick s
drinking alone and empty glass illustrate that he is devoid of spirit and passion for life and that
he is merely watching the lives of others. This image reflects the state of America at that time.
Americans were still feeling the effects of the Great Depression and did not want to get
involved in the war being waged across Europe (Kennedy). Rick is also shown playing chess
against himself, playing as the black pieces. Rick s playing chess alludes to his inner turmoil and
his struggle to navigate the disordered world in which he is trying to remain neutral. However, as
symbolized by his playing the black pieces, his decision to remain impartial is to the advantage of
the Nazis and is detrimental to the

Viewpoints In The Things They Carried
Writing from different viewpoints allows the author, Tim O Brien, to express himself in a more
comfortable manner. Written in this viewpoint, the story is read as a tale instead of an
autobiography and the author becomes more distant with the story like he is looking into it rather
than writing it.
O Brien most likely wrote parts of the story in third person because it is traditional and benefits the
reader by allowing them to get to know multiple characters rather than just the narrator. The Things
They Carried and Speaking of Courage are two of the more personal chapters in the novel and by
writing them in third person, the reader may feel more involved in the story. They can also learn
more about the soldiers and the events of the

Dysfunctional Family
Dysfunctional Family
A dysfunctional family is a family, in which conflict, misbehavior and even abuse on the part of
individual members of the family occur continually, leading other members to accommodate such
actions. Dysfunctional families are most often a result of the alcoholism, substance abuse, or other
addictions of parents, parents untreated mental illnesses/defects or personality disorders, or the
parents emulating their own dysfunctional parents and dysfunctional family experiences.
Types of Dysfunctional Families

Criticism can be aimed at the child s looks, intelligence, capabilities, or basic value. Some verbal
abusers are very direct, while others use subtle put downs disguised as humor. Both types are just as
damaging.
Definitions of physical abuse vary widely. Many parents, at one time or another, have felt the urge
to strike their child. With physically abusive parents, however, the urge is frequent and little effort
is made to control this impulse. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act defines
physical abuse as the infliction of physical injuries such as bruises, burns, welts, cuts, bone or skull
fractures; these are caused by kicking, punching, biting, beating, knifing, strapping, paddling, etc.
Striking a child has much to do with meeting the parent s emotional needs and nothing to do with
concern for the child; parents often erroneously justify the abuse as discipline intended to help the
child. Physically abusive parents can create an environment of terror for the child, particularly since
violence is often random and unpredictable. Abused children often feel anger. Children of abusive
parents have tremendous difficulties developing feelings of trust and safety even in their adult lives.
While parents may justify or rationalize verbal or physical abuse as discipline aimed at somehow
helping the child, there is no rationalization for sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is the most blatant
example of an adult abusing a child purely for that

Can t Remember a Time Without I-Tunes Essay
It s difficult to remember a time without iTunes. To many people, especially to the younger
generation, iTunes has always been a part of people s lives. When it launched on April 28, 2003,
iTunes was set to forever change the world of music and technology (Griggs Leopold). When it
first started, songs were available for instant download for only ninety nine cents and albums for
less than ten dollars. ITunes changed the way music was distributed and marketed. With the release
of iTunes, music consumers could now download music digitally with the click of a button.
Consumers no longer had to leave the comfort of their home to buy or listen to a song or an album.
Before iTunes and digital music, consumers had to buy a complete album or... Show more content

With iTunes, consumers instantly get what they want, which is a perfect fit for our technological
culture today, but the emotional experience of buying music has been shattered.
Because of iTunes, consumers have become more private listeners. Every song and album sits
directly in front of each consumer. Listeners buy the songs they personally want and place them
on their own portable music players. They listen to the songs by themselves as a private
experience (Griggs Leopold). Consumers do still share music, but do not engage in the social
experience that existed before iTunes and digital music. Today, listeners share music by sending
song files to each other or posting music on social media sites completely taking the shared and
social aspect out of music. The shift in behavior from enjoying music as a social experience to
listening to music as a personal experience has changed culture and society. Today s world is all
about the individual. People want things for themselves and they want them now. ITunes helped in
changing culture and society to be this way by making songs and albums available instantly to each
person. With iTunes, people can get the music they want instantly and are encouraged to listen to
music as a more private experience.
In the time of records and even CD s, there was no way to sell or buy single songs. ITunes
transformed music by marketing single songs instead of full albums.

NRS 427V August 8, 2015 Chicken Pox or Varicella is a highly contagious viral disease caused by
the Varicella Zoster virus that causes a blister like itchy rash all over the body. The rash is the

days. The symptoms that appear before the rash are headache, fever, general malaise, cough and
loss of appetite. There are three phases of rash once it appears; Phase 1 red or pink papules all over

Varicella is endemic worldwide. In areas where the climate is temperate chicken pox lends itself
to be a childhood disease, with the highest incidence affecting preschool and young school age
children. The incidence of chicken pox is highest in the late winter and early spring. In climates
that tend to be more tropical, the incidence appears in the coolest, driest seasons and transmitted
later in childhood or early adulthood (Marin amp; Bialek 2015). In households where there are
multiple family members, the contagiousness is approximately 85%, but less in community
exposure (Marin amp; Bialek 2015). Since the utilization and application of childhood
vaccinations for Varicella in the United States, a consequential decline has presented itself. The
risk of Chicken pox has remained higher in other parts of the world. Other countries that have
begun routinely immunizing their children and have seen a decrease in incidents are Canada,
Costa Rica, Germany, Greece, Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Uruguay
and some areas of Spain and Italy. The varicella vaccine is the best prevention for chicken pox.
According to the CDC it is estimated that vaccination of varicella provides complete protection for

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Summary
Summary
For this article there were no research questions, but the authors wanted to focus on the
pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of PCOS. They found that polycystic ovary syndrome
(PCOS) is common in women, with a10% prevalence in women of reproductive age. Polycystic
ovary syndrome is defined as ovarian dysfunction with polycystic ovaries. It also includes
androgen excess which is shown by testosterone levels being elevated. Increased levels of
testosterone can be seen through excess body hair. Obesity is seen in many women with PCOS, this
can lead to insulin resistance and Type II Diabetes. Genetics has an impact on polycystic ovary
syndrome with 20 40% of people with PCOS having first degree relatives with the syndrome.
The authors also found that PCOS can cause many long term side effects, including Type II
diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, and malignancy. Type II diabetes is due to the
high prevalence of obesity leading to insulin resistance in PCOS. Women with PCOS are at higher
risks for cardiovascular diseases including increased levels of low density lipoproteins. Polycystic
ovary syndrome can also lead to anxiety, depression and binge eating. Women with obesity have a

  • 4. The Three Branches Of The Government The Three Branches of the Government The Government has three branches for law making. When a law is being created, it starts at the Legislative, and then gets passed to the Executive branch, then to the Judicial branch. Each branch has their own area of the law that they look at. In the end, it is decided if the law will be issued to the people. When the law is being created, it starts at the Legislative branch. In the branch, Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. In Senate, there are 100 senators, making it two senators from each state. Once elected, they will serve a six year term in Senate. The Vice President is known as the head of Senate, but is only involved in the voting when there is a tie. They also approve the recommendations made by the President to the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, federal courts, and other posts. All the Senate must ratify all of the treaties by a two third vote. In the House of Representatives, there are 435 representatives. Each state has a certain number of representatives depending on the population. An example of this would be New York and Rhode Island. New York would have more representatives because the population is much bigger in the busy state then Rhode Island s would be. This is decided by the yearly Census. If it shifts, a representative could be added or subtracted. The representatives elected, will serve a two year term. They also elect the Speaker of the House, who is the head. . The ... • 5. Minority Student Diversity Abstract Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling, attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost of enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative action or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students graduating has also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination legally ended more than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of minority people in the United States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does not work in their favor has continued although it is ... White students represent 75% of the students at the top 468 colleges in the country even though they are only 62% of the country s college age population (Fletcher, 2013). On the other hand 67% of black students and 75% of Latino students attend open access colleges. Black and Latino students make up 37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s top colleges while making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although black and Latino students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools necessary to graduate and succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and Latino students with an A averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with 22% of white students (Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The higher education system is colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a systematic barrier to opportunity for many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college qualified but tracked into overcrowded and under funded colleges, where they are less likely to develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013). Carnevale further explains that the issue is not particularly with the students but the system that does not support them. Michael Dannenberg, director of higher education and education finance policy at the Education Trust, noted What individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world between a student graduating or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. Demography is not destiny, and what colleges do matters (Roach, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following that summer, he declared the curse of physical shame was broken by the sun; I was no longer ashamed of my body. In 1967 African American civil rights leaders brought attention to the mediocre education that black students in high school were receiving and how it was not properly preparing them for college. This also sparked Hispanic American activists to complain that there were not enough Hispanics attending college, concluding that this too was because of racism. Soon after many African American and Hispanic American sit ins, protests and marches for change in the school systems, RodrГguez was offered numerous financial and academic opportunities to help carry him through his college career. The amount of hill slope erosion largely depends on how the land is used. Sheet erosion occurs when a thin layer of topsoil is removed over a whole hillside paddock and may not be readily noticed. Rill erosion occurs when runoff water forms small channels as it concentrates down a slope. These rills can be up to 0.3m deep. If they become any deeper than 0.3m they are referred to as gully erosion. Scalding: Scalding can occur when wind and water erosion removes the top soil and exposes saline soils. Raindrop impact alone can result in large amounts of soil being moved. However water or wind moving over the surface will remove more soil, and contribute to sheet, rill and gully erosion. Erosion also tends to remove the lighter, smaller soil particles first (such as clay and silt), leaving fine and coarse sand behind. Gully Erosion: Gully erosion happens when runoff concentrates and flows strongly enough to detach and move soil particles. For example, a waterfall may form, with runoff picking up energy as it plunges over the gully head. Gullies may develop in watercourses or other places where runoff concentrates. This type of erosion is highly visible and affects soil productivity, restricts land use, and can damage roads, fences and buildings. The depth of the gully developed can range from 2m up to 15 m. • 15. Squaws And Nobel Maidens American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature. American Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels regarding American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have done their best to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian women are more complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their respective tribes to include prominent positions. Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men, each contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans immediately labeled these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers failed to recognize that women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their own set of tasks, but all tasks were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013). The slave stereotype continued to be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the term Squaw. It infected the way American Indian women were treated by white men not only in the media, but in real life as well. Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II. The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this can be seen in an interior scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help him. • 18. Freedom Of The Press, Freedom, And Freedom For Democracy Freedom of the press is considered to be the most important component to a strong, fair, and healthy democracy. This ideal is so valued that it is within the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States Bill of Rights. Today still, a free press is often used as a measurement of the freedom and democratic strength of a state, and is considered to be a guardian of the people against democratic erosion or executive aggrandizement. Freedom of the press, however, is not unproblematic. It can seem at many times that state intervention within or restriction of the press, can solve some of the issues of a free press, but neither state control, nor an entirely unconstrained press is perfect for democracy, or protection against the erosion of democracy. While a free press does not guarantee the survival of a democracy, and the degree of freedom may need to be slightly limited, it is without question, that a freer press is more likely to ensure the survival of democracy, than a press that is controlled, or one that is experiences extreme constraints from the government. A large threat to democracy is a press whose freedom is completely limited by the government. By making the Romans think about this topic, Brutus gains support and the audience feels like the death of Caesar is justified. After Brutus finishes his speech, Antony speaks about his opinion on the issue; unlike Brutus, Antony acts slyly and communicates a very manipulative tone to persuade the Romans to rebel. Because of Antony s use of parallelism, he creates vivid reasoning for his speech. He states, I come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him (III.ii.44). By using this device, he shows the people of Rome that he isn t praising Caesar, he is putting the leader to rest. This particular line creates a very manipulative tone, because his speech is all about what great this Caesar has done and how he wants to rebel against the conspirators. Further more, Antony uses a lot of irony to slyly get his point across. One example that he uses throughout the speech is Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, and Brutus is a honorable man (III.ii.44). Because of the repitition of this ironic statement, the meaning of it changes and intensifies. At first, his tone was sincere, but as the speech progresses, you can see his sarcastic tone increases. On a secondary level, it also implies one s freedom to pursue one s own individuality. What is the value of individual liberty that calls for it to be defended so fervently by Mill? Individual Liberty and Truth Firstly, Mill believes that individual liberty is instrumental in the attainment of truth. No one can claim an infallibility of knowledge or a definite truth. Falsehoods are often sprinkled with specks of truth; and truth may exists as half truths held by different people, and it is only through controversy that the truth in the parts can be unified into a larger canvas of the ultimate truth. If one s actions were to be censored completely, society would lose those specks of truth amongst the falsehoods, which would be disadvantageous to society.
