Disadvantages Of 5s
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
In recent years, the practice of 5S is basically used among the Japanese firms in order to enhance
human capability and productivity of the outputs. 5S is one of the TQM (Total Quality Management)
tools and was firstly introduced at companies in Japan in the early 1980s by Takashi Osada, it is
believed that applying the 5S techniques could considerably raise the environmental performance in
production line including housekeeping, health, safety and so on. The 5S is the acronym of five
Japanese words which stands for seiri (organization), seiton (neatness), seiso (cleanliness), seiketsu
(standardization) and shitsuke (discipline) (Sui Pheng and Khoo, 2001). Organizing the 5S team is

Research objectives are to provide specific focus direction to the research. It must be well thought out
and the objectives must be related to the problem that has already been defined (Hazman, 2012).
There are many practices in the world to improve the quality of products or services and performance
of organizations, but generally organizations looking for the best practice to implement and utilize for
achieving their organizational goals and objectives easier, sooner and use with less expenses.

The Big Short Movie Essay
The Big Short is a movie that discusses the housing market crash in 2008. As you may know, the
banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of
the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have
prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that you
went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one idea that
changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgage back security. A mortgage back
security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use your mortgage to
start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average mortgage loan has a fixed rate
loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle them all together. They thought
these would still be less risky because who would not pay their mortgage. They were doing hundreds
of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all changed when they ran out of mortgages to put
into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there was nothing left to make money, and the banking
world was going to back to the way it was. Rather than letting that happen, the banks made a loan
called a subprime loan.
Subprime loans were not like the fixed rate loans at all. Subprime loans have interest rates that raise
quickly, where fixed rate loans stay the same. In the movie, when

Song Of Roland Analysis
In Song of Roland, the ideas of chivalry and loyalty to one s king are central. Throughout the text, the
author uses the concepts of good versus evil, shown by the Christians versus Muslims, as well as
loyalty versus treason, shown by Roland versus Ganelon, to highlight and exemplify the ideals of the
code of knighthood. The main character, Roland, is often presented as being an exemplary knight; he
personifies the conventional chivalric values of the time such as bravery and loyalty, but he also
struggles to balance these values in order to be a responsible leader. Roland is in stark contrast to his
stepfather, Ganelon, as well as being in slight contrast to his close friend, Oliver. These contrasts of
character come to a climax as the battle against the Muslim army at Roncesvalles begins; Oliver and
Roland debate over whether they should call the king to help them, leading to the eventual demise of
the French army. This specific scene brings to light the ideological dilemma of bravery versus wisdom
and logic, by utilizing Roland as an example of the former, and Oliver of the latter. Roland, as
evidenced by this situation, displays perfect loyalty to one s king and God by being incredibly brave in
the face of danger, making sacrifices that he sees are necessary, and fought valiantly until his death, all
the while keeping the utmost faith in his God and king.
Throughout Song of Roland, Roland often puts himself in extreme amounts of danger, without fear of
the consequences for himself or others; he was often brave even to the point of excess. In his bravery,
he often overlooks the concerns and feelings of others, even those of his closest companions. For
example, from the beginning of the battle with the Muslims it was quite obvious that the small rear
guard led by Roland had no chance of victory; they were just too small. When Oliver suggests using
the oliphant to call King Charlemagne s aid, Roland refuses, saying [m]ay it never please god that my
kin should be shamed because of me, or that sweet France should fall into disgrace. Never! Never! I ll
strike with Durendal, I ll strike with this good sword strapped to my side, you ll see this blade running
its whole length with blood (1,062 1,067). While

South Australia And The Environmental Aspect Of The...
To most, Australia is thought to be mostly an area of sand and dirt roads with kangaroos
hoping allover, but in reality it has multiple climates due to the large area. The northern part has
a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, and part desert. In the south, a
temperate climate and discreetly fruitful soil can be found. With a nation active, large and
variable as Australia, it may be a learning point for the United States of America. With the
legislation and active energy conservation department that is well funded, we may be able to
adapt these ideas and incorporate them into our society and government. However, not
everything in Aussie is so green.

Due to its location, the seasons in South
Australia are opposite of those here; for example, their summer is from December to February.
Therefore, S.A s winter is during the months of June August, however rather than snow, an
annual average of 40 inches of rain occurs. Although temperate, most of South Australia
resembles the red rock areas of Colorado and New Mexico where the red land meets the bright
blue skies.
An exception to this desert like landscape is the Southernmost point of South Australia,
known as Kangaroo Island has a rather diverse landscape which includes a beautiful marine life,
caves and caverns, robust fields and majestic deserts. A majority of the Island, and rightfully so,
are homes to several resorts. Between the warm temperatures and clear waters, the island has
become a hot spot for Northern Hemisphere visitors during the months of December to
February. The animals that inhabit this area are just as diverse as the landscape itself including,
but not limited to, pelicans, penguins, dolphins, wallabies, brush tailed possums, ducks, swans
and waders on 267 species of birds found in various habitats on the island, sea lions, New
Zealand fur seals and, of course, kangaroos.
However, not everything is so crystal clear for South Australia, or the country as a
whole. South Australia is becoming warmer as surface temperature has risen 0.96°C, while
the global average is 0.7°C.

Essay about Renaissance Man and Renaissance Women
Between the 1300s and 1500s, Europe experienced a period of cultural rebirth known as the
Renaissance, marking the transition from medieval times to modern times. The Renaissance brought
new importance to individual expression, self consciousness and worldly experience.
The Renaissance man and woman characterized the Renaissance ideals. A renaissance man was a well
educated gentleman who had cultural grace, courage and who understood the arts and sciences. On the
other hand, a Renaissance woman was supposed to marry well, be loyal to her husband and give birth
to boys.
The most famous Renaissance man was Leonardo Da Vinci who was born on April 15th 1452 in
Florence, Italy. Da Vinci was truly recognized by many to be a Renaissance child ... Show more

As for Renaissance women, two of them made history: Isabella d Este and Catherine de Medici.
Isabella d Este was born in 1474. At the age of 16 she married Francesco Gonzaga, Prince of Mantua.
She was able to speak Greek and Latin as well as play the lute, sing and dance and debate with people
much older than her after the death of her husband, Isabella became chief of state in Mantua. She also
founded a school for young women and set artistic fashions and standards.
Catherine de Medici was another Renaissance woman born in 1519. Nuns raised her when her parents
died and had an arrangement marriage by her uncle the Pope. Three of her sons became kings under
her influence. Catherine had a great interest in architecture when she built the new wing of the Louvre
Museum, the construction of the Tuilleries Gardens and the building of the Chateau Monceau.
In conclusion, Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most famous from the Renaissance period and is the
example of the Renaissance man because he was a master of both the world of arts as well as the
world of science. Isabella d Este during her rule set an example for women to break away from the
traditional role of what women were supposed to be like during the Renaissance period. By doing this
and many other things she was known as the First Lady of the Renaissance . Catherine was a great
patron of arts and being this,

The Plague by Albert Camus Essay
The Plague by Albert Camus
Albert Camus The Plague, takes place in the desert town of Oran, Algeria, in northern Africa. It is the
perfect setting for this story to take place. The ordinariness of Oran is contrasted with the
extraordinary business of the plague. Sprintzen points out that There is a mythic significance of Oran.
Given the previous description of the quality of Oranian life, the selection of Oran as the location for
the outbreak of plague should not come as a surprise (Sprintzen 38). In Oran, life for its inhabitants
has lost meaning. The plague offers them a chance to give meaning back to their lives. The plot of the
story is revealed in five parts, over which we see the characters undergo changes. Through ... Show

Vital living can be stifled by habits. Todd suggests that It is at this point that one should revolt against
his stultifying pattern of living. Recognition of bottomless death makes a habit bound life even more
absurd (Todd 165). Considering that they are completely unaware of anything around them, it is easy
to see that the disease captures the city completely by surprise; no one is prepared for it. Doctors
gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for
what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors
in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a
negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes
apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the
doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs
higher and higher. Sprintzen writes The Plague does, beyond any possible discussion, represent the
transition from an attitude of solitary revolt to the recognition of a community whose struggles must
be shared (Sprintzen 103). Yet slowly at first, people begin to die, and the citizens of Oran take notice.
The residents of Oran do not need to worry about looking for society and

When you are renovating a bathroom and getting ready to install a shower, you may hear a number of
different terms. Some of these may refer to the materials being used to construct your new shower,
including marble and cultured marble. Understanding the difference between these two popular
building materials can help you make the right decision for your home.
Marble Overview
Marble is a natural stone material made mostly of calcite. A metamorphic stone, marble is actually
limestone that has been changed through tremendous amounts of heat and pressure. The different
minerals that were present in the limestone at the time it became marble give different types ... Show

The finished cultured marble product is sealed with a gel coat. As a result, cultured marble is glossy in
appearance with subtle, uniform veins and color. Cultured marble is formed inside heated molds into
vanity tops and shower surrounds.
Care of Marble in a Shower
As a natural stone, marble is porous. Marble in a shower should be well sealed to avoid staining due to
water absorption. White marbles should never be used on shower floors, to avoid wicking up
impurities from the shower drain and discoloring over time. All marble in the shower should be
washed with stone cleansers, sealed regularly and squeegeed dry after each use to prevent stains and
etching.
Care of Cultured Marble in the Shower
Cultured marble is a non porous material, meaning that it does not need to be sealed. It can be cleaned
with any non abrasive bathroom cleanser and left to dry naturally. If the surface does become
scratched or abraded, it can be re polished with an application of automotive polish and a soft cloth.
Because it is easy to care for, most homeowners prefer cultured marble to natural marble.

Rhetorical Devices In Waiting For Superman
Director, Davis Guggenheim, in the film Waiting for Superman, tells the untold stories of five children
waiting for their opportunity to go to a better school. Guggenheim s purpose is to convey the idea that
some schools are waiting for their superman to come save the day. In Waiting for Superman, Davis
Guggenheim uses a variety of rhetorical devices to show how the education system is corrupt and
what is being done to fix this system. Guggenheim appeals to the viewer s emotions by providing
many heartbreaking stories from the five children being interviewed. There is nothing more pitiful
than puppy being kicked or a toy being taken away from a baby. The director uses the element of
sympathy to create an attachment between the audience and the children. In the interview, Bianca is a
six year old girl who has been anticipating her 1st grade graduation since the first day of school.

Atoms Within Magnets
All magnets produce their own invisible magnetic field that s unable to be seen with the naked eye,
and each magnetic field interacts with other magnetic fields. Magnets are made of metals like iron ore,
iron, or alloys, which is a mixture of metals, or of a metal and a nonmetal. Magnets only react with
certain metals such as iron, steel, nickel, or cobalt. They have two poles, one of them is north pole,
while the other is called the south pole. The opposite poles attract, while the same ones repel one
another. Everything is made of atoms, and magnets are no exceptions (Rutledge, McDaniel, Boudreau,

The Result of Fracking on the Natural Gas Industry
Introduction
Hydraulic fracturing otherwise known as fracking has flooded the market with cheap and reliable
natural gas to the exportation and power production markets all while being limited by logistics.
Emspak, J. (2014, August 12) shows that natural gas production by fracking has expanded gas
production by 32 times the amount in 2008. This lowered the cost 40% over that span of time. The
demand for clean cost efficient power production shifted production from coal fired to natural gas
plants. From 20015 20017 about nine thousand natural gas power plants were built says the U.S.
Energy Information Administration. (2017). This correlates to about one half of a million more

While this is great to the consumer, the renewable sector s growth was more stagnant. Attention was
diverted to use another greenhouse producing fossil fuel rather than a clean renewable. A trend in U.S.
Energy Information Administration s (2017) data showed renewable sector s power production since
2008 grew only 5.7% as compared to natural gas production 18%. Another disadvantage to the
diversion from renewables is the additional carbon dioxide generated from these additional plants
operating. About 24 percent of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions are related to natural gas in 2011
(Natural gas prices. (n.d.)). The replacement of coal fired power plants with natural gas has let to a
decrease of the green house gases, mainly particulate matter and sulfur dioxide emissions. Sulfur
dioxide (SO2) emissions produced in the generation of electricity at power plants in the United States
declined by 73% from 2006 to 2015, a much larger reduction than the 32% decrease in coal fired
electricity generation over that period. U.S. Energy Information Administration (2017). This shows
that more efficient control equipment can be used to almost eliminate the trace amounts of sulfur
dioxide in natural gas.
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory found the following:
Power plants are the largest source of SO2 emissions in the United States, accounting for 64% of
economy wide SO2 emissions in 2014. Power plants

By using a machine gun, many men could be killed in one time. So the machine gun was stronger than
the individual soldier. Since the Allies outgunned the Axis in artillery and machinery, the German
soldiers took refuge in trenches that were no match for the kind of warfare waged. This made soldiers
feel impotent. New recruits quickly learn about reality in warfare. In World War I, it was rare when an
individual was a hero.

Ms. Noid s Vocal Roughness
To quantify Ms. Noid s vocal breathiness and roughness, the Praat software will be utilized to create a
spectrographic analysis. Ms. Noid would be recorded while producing a vowel, word, and/or phrase.
To analyze her vowel production, a narrowband spectrogram with ranges 0 to 9000 Hz will be created.
From the produced spectrogram, a Fast Fourier transform (FFT)/ Power spectrum will be generated to
display fundamental frequency and harmonics of the produced vowel, typically vowels are between 0
to 3000 Hz. Due to Ms. Noid s persistent severe hoarseness and breathiness and reduced glottal
closure, the power spectrum will display a continuous spectrum and interharmonic energy. The three

Mean Speaking Frequency (MSF) or Speaking Fundamental Frequency (SFF) measures the average
speaking frequency during: conversational speech, reading, counting, sustained phonation at the end
of a given word, or sustained phonation at a comfortable pitch and loudness. A fundamental frequency
analyzer is used to formulate MSF/SFF.
The rationale for using a MSF measure is that it would provide measurements of the average rate of
vocal fold vibration during connected/continuous speech (averaging of the client s frequencies).
Furthermore, it will provide an insight of the client s habitual pitch and reveal information of her vocal
fold function.
Expected results: Typically, females have a fundamental frequency ranging between G3 (196 Hz) and
A3 (220 Hz). Ms. Noid s MSF result will demonstrate an inconsistent pitch due her paralyzed vocal
fold. Her vocal fold pathology impairs the left vocal fold to lengthen and decrease its mass and
stiffness (impairment of Thyroarytenoid and Cricothyroid). Consequently, Ms. Noid s vocal folds
might vibrate at different frequencies (diplophonia); have a decreased MSF measure, disrupted vocal
fold vibration, and inadequate glottal closure, which would cause a decrease in subglottic pressure.
Ms. Noid s fundamental frequency would be affected (perceptual correlate of pitch), therefore,
reducing her flexibility, and changing her vocal

Body Mass Lab
Introduction The topic examined in Lab 4 is how Body Mass, Brain Size, and Life History variables,
are distinct amongst humans, apes, and other primates. These variables are related because they
demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum
Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass
(kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction,
and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the
EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this
project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on

I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in
the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data
demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the
species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body
Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the
body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass
(kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body
Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of
humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan,
and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by
observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us
in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when
compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and
the expected brain size, it allows

The Social Aspects Of Gender In No Country For Old Men
What is gender and how is gender determined? Gender is the way humans are categorized into a
culture and is also the key to the entrance of a society. The two common genders that are recognizable
throughout every culture across the world are male and female. Commonly, gender is decided quickly
after birth, or sometimes even before birth, by using the parts of one s anatomy to categorize the new
born. What the new born doesn t know is that once they grow up, they will have to abide by a set of
rules to stay in their gender grouping, male or female. All too commonly, though, it can be seen that
once the males grow up, they gain a sense of power, this power being one that shadows the females
and leaves the females empty handed compared to the males, the so called superior breed. The film No
Country for Old Men by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen illustrates that men are dominant over men, but
most importantly, men are dominant over women, which parallels with Aaron H. Devor s essay,

Understanding the Patient Intake Process The intake process of patients is different from practice to
practice, but the main purpose of the process is retrieve new and established patients information
during check in at a providers office, a hospital, or clinic. By having an efficient intake process a
efficient patient flow can be maintained. Healthcare just like any other type of service industry is
reliant on possessing satisfied clientele. Scheduling practices help to manage the patient flow by
establishing certain guidelines regarding how late a patient can arrive, and still be seen without

If a patient has a co pay is the co pay required at the time of service or can they be billed for it at a
later date. For patients without medical insurance making them aware of their financial obligations
helps to reduce the time that is spent explaining the financial aspects. Let the patient know that the
provider is willing to make payment arrangements, or that they offer a discount for payment in full at
the time of service, or maybe there is a sliding fee scale that is offered based on the patients income.
Offering financial assistance is just not helpful to those without insurance, but also to those that do
have insurance. Patients can sometimes have high out of pocket expenses and deductibles that they are
required to pay for certain services. Financial counseling informs the patient of their financial
responsibility and how the practice is willing to help so that they can receive the care that they need.
Having a good patient flow is key to establishing a respected practice with patients who are happy,
and healthy. Patient flow not only effects the amount of time a patient waits to see a doctor, but also
effects the time and care that a doctor has to spend with their patients. There are a variety of
techniques that a practices, clinics, and hospitals can implement to ensure a that the intake process is
effective and maintains a good patient flow.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Microfilm
WHAT IS PRESERVATION MICROFILM AND MICROFICHE?
Preservation microfilm and microfiche involves the strategic identification and selection of long term
and permanent records stored on unstable media such as optical and magnetic media for transfer or
copying onto more durable media, namely microfilm. Proper microfilming of valuable records can
allow agencies to destroy paper records in accordance with the regulations.
Microfilm is a type of film based images. There are many different types of microfilms and versions
of microfilm storage. This media is frequently used for long term image preservation, document
reconstruction and offsite storage. As media it has many advantages and disadvantages. The choice of

These take advantage of the fact that diazonium salts produce nitrogen as they decompose upon
exposure to UV radiation. In vesicular films, diazonium salt coating is sandwiched between two base
layers. The film is exposed via contact printing from a master, and the image is developed by heating
the film. This momentarily softens the base material and causes expanding nitrogen to form tiny
bubbles or vesicles that remain when the film is cooled.
Typically, residual photosensitive material is then fixed by exposing the film to UV radiation, causing
complete decay of the diazonium salts. Incident light passes through the clear areas of the film but is
scattered and reflected by the bubbles, causing those areas with vesicles to appear dense. The image
will always exhibit slightly raised areas. The film base is always polyester because acetate cannot
tolerate the heat used in processing. Vesicular film can easily be damaged by mechanical pressure,
which can collapse the bubbles. Another major vulnerability of vesicular film is bubble migration or
movement. At high temperatures, the base material softens allowing the gas contained in the bubbles
to expand. As the bubbles grow in size, they can rupture, leaving patches of clear film where the
image was formerly visible. Vesicular film may suffer damage at temperature below 167°F, the
American National Standards Institute permissible temperature for film readers, so special care is
warranted when this

Holden Caulfield And Its Effects On Society
After a heated argument, rough day, or traumatizing event, many of us say we would rather be left
alone. When something negative happens to any of us we tend to isolate ourselves, leaving ourselves
to our thoughts for a while before blending back into society. This isolation is good for a while, it
allows us to clear our heads and think things through before going back into a normal routine.
Prolonged isolation however, has been proven to be potentially dangerous. Holden Caulfield isolates
himself from the phoniness of the world, thinking highly of himself and somehow believes he is
different from everyone else he s ever met. Holden s way of putting himself on a pedestal harms his
social prowess, and isolates him to the point of loneliness. He longs for social contact and in many
situations makes a strong effort in order to get to know somebody. After 5 minutes of conversation
however, Holden proves to us his social impairment. Holden Caulfield is an example of a person who
does not fit into normal social interactions, yet some of his personality exists in all of us.

Essay On University Budget
Explore Costs The university s budget department analyzed factors and criteria to see which programs
or projects would be budgeted and which ones would not. The factors that the department must
analyze were how the programs or projects supported the mission and strategic plan of the university,
how they created costs for the university, and how they benefited the university. The criteria that
justified the decision to budget the program or project were safety, staffing, maintenance, curriculum,
return on investment, and professional development.

Another goal of the strategic plan was to increase excellence in the programs (Florida State
University, 2017c). Merit based funding would help recruit the brightest students and motivate them to
want to attend the university. High merit students were more enticed to attend an in state college that
provided merit based funding (Domina, 2014).
By providing merit based funding, the university would make a return on investment. There was more
of an increase of revenue for merit based aid compared to aid given to low income students (Weisbrod
et al., 2011). Also, the university would receive preeminent funding from the state that was based on
the preeminent criteria that was mentioned above (The Florida Legislature, 2017). There were other
forms of return on investment. Higher institutions that dispersed merit based funding had a higher
student enrollment and higher number of students receiving a bachelor s degree (Domina, 2014).
Universities needed to keep tuition costs down for students (Patterson, 2016), and merit based funding
was a way to decrease costs to the students who did not qualify for need based funding (Weisbrod et
al., 2011). The funding would come from the Florida State University Foundation, which receives
funding from donations (Florida State University, 2017b). The vision for increasing merit based

Characterization Of Macbeth
But with this answer comes another question: why would Shakespeare name the main character
Macbeth when his monarchs were Elizabeth I and James I? What message was he trying to send by
using the name of Macbeth, the king of Scotland in 1040? In Jonathan Goldberg s essay Speculations:
Macbeth and source in Jean E Howard s anthology on Shakespeare, Goldberg explains how the King
Duncan in the play is a reflection of the real life Duncan I from Scotland in the 1030s when Scotland
was going through distressing times. He suggests that real life King Duncan is represented in a way
that makes him seem weak through the character King Duncan. Goldberg perceives Duncan s death as

There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the Bye
Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare wrote
Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating the tone of
the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to
imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. To
further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare s writing style also changes during James
reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive
tragedies and comedies during the Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo
and Juliet), during the early 17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker
tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more
about how persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. One way a new historicist
might look at this insight is to go back to James I. In the article The Historical Context of Macbeth

Daemonologie, a book on witchcraft. James I was pulled in by the corruption of witchcraft in this

Personal Note On Computer Science Essay
1. WHAT SPARKED YOUR INTEREST IN COMPUTER SCIENCE? HOW DID THIS LEAD YOU
TO MAJOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH WITH
YOUR DEGREE? IN YOUR ANSWER, PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOUR EXPERIENCES HAVE
INFLUENCED THE GOALS YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF.
The world of Computer Science has always been a fascinating field to me. Right from elementary
school when I was taught about the evolution of computers, from the early counting mechanisms
using the abacus to the father of computer s difference machine and down to reinventions of various
concepts, to what we have now in our modern day world as efficiently serving computers. Also while
growing up, I had an Uncle who lived with my family for a while. He was always trying to solve
Computer Science related programs. In fact, his room at the time was like a Computer laboratory, with
lots of gadgets and resources like infrared enhancing equipment, CPU systems all dismantled into
little pieces, lots of books and encyclopaedias on how to be an excellent computer programmer, to
different things I could not comprehend at the time but knew they were out of this world.
My passion for Computer Science is not just because of its intriguing nature but also because evidence
of reinventions constantly show that anyone can make a difference or contribution no matter how little
that contribution may be, which is why I believe the field of Computer Science to be continually
evolving day after day. All of these helped to not just

The Overachievers, by Alexandra Robbins Essay
The Overachievers by Alexandra Robbins is a non fiction book that follows the lives of nine high
school/ college overachieving students. On the outside they look healthy, happy, and perfect, but upon
closer look the reader realizes just how manic their lives and the lives of many other high scholars are.
It is no secret that high school and college has become more competitive, but the public doesn t realize
just out of control this world is. Overachieverism has become a way of life, a social norm. It is a world
wide phenomenon that has swamped many of the world s top countries. Students are breaking under
the immense amount of pressure that society puts on them. They live in constant fear that they will not
live up to society s, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can t do that if they spend every hour eating, sleeping, or studying for fear that they won t be
successful. Students are completely burned out by the time they get to college (Robbins).
This lifestyle of overachieving starts at an early age. It used to be you didn t need to start an activity or
sport until middle school or high school. Many people now know that if you want your child to excel
in something, you have to start at an early age. Boys start little league baseball and pee wee football at
seven or eight years old. Girls start dance or tumbling classes as early as three. Toddlers are being
tutored at age two. While all this may be hard to take in, what may surprise you is that you don t even
have to be born yet to start your education. A California obstetrician has developed courses to further
the intellectual skills of her students. The students? All fetuses. Then name of the school is, I kid you
not, Prenatal University (Robbins 334). The early education market is booming, parents are lured by
the possibility of nudging their children ahead of the pack even before the age of one (Robbins 335).
Parents are so obsessed with their child being number one that they will pay $16,000 tuition for a
private preschool. But to be enrolled in such preschools, toddlers must go into an interview (much like

Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer
The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause
cancer. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American
Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar
each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020, individuals
should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture,
2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with
cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone
(Oncology Nutrition, 2016).
The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great
importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an
increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk
for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been
done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of
high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015).
However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, 2012)
reports that elevated blood sugar levels lead to mutations in DNA, which

Class Disparities In The Victorian Era
While there were many advancements in technology and literature in the Victorian Era, there were
also many disadvantages; these included child labor, class disparities, and atrocious living conditions.
There were incredible novels, artwork, and machinery created during the Victorian Era. However, the
people were treated horribly. Children were put to work, and severely abused while they were there.
The poor were seen as dirt on the bottom of the upper class s shoes, and were rarely allowed to
advance in society. Citizens lived in squalor, and many became ill because of it. Victorian society will
always have a negative connotation because of how the people were treated during that time. Dickens
is a major proponent of that connotation. He wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The upper classes had all of the political power, and the middle and lower classes had absolutely none.
There was also a group below the working class called the sunken class. They lived in poverty and
struggled immensely in their daily lives. While the lower class people were working for a living, the
rich were living glamorously. They had large houses, plots of land, and maids and butlers. Even with
all of these amenities, the upper class paid no taxes. The citizens under the aristocrats paid nearly all
of the taxes, even though they worked for pennies a day. This created hostility towards the upper class,
and made the class disparity even more severe. In A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer
Scrooge was a wealthy, upper class man. He did not do anything to help the poor or the lower class
society. Meanwhile, Bob Cratchit had a sizable family that lived in a cramped house, and struggled to
make ends meet. Scrooge treated Bob Cratchit, his employee, poorly, and said multiple times that the
poor should be able to work their way out of poverty. He was incredibly disconnected from the lower
classes, and this showed in his treatment of them. He was unaware of the struggles of the poor, and he
was unwilling to learn until he was forced to. This is one very apparent example in fiction of the class
disparities of Victorian

Personal Cultural Aspects
My personal cultural is affected by the 7 aspects of myself. These 7 aspects has made me who I am
and how I view the world based on my cultural responsibilities. The first personal aspect is my gender.
Being a male in my culture I am responsible to do the heavy work like setting up table and chairs for
everyone.I am also responsible to help kill the pig and prep the meat for the females to cook. I am also
responsible to go forward the elders and bow to them showing my respect towards them. As a male I
am to greet all the elders and help them with what they need. Being a male I get more opportunities on
working jobs. I am also expected to be strong, I have to look tough and be able to take control because
I am a male. The second personal aspect is my age. Since i am almost gonna be an young adult I am to
have a drink with the elders if they bring a drink to me. I am to sit with the elders and talk with them
keeping them company. Since i m going to be a young adult soon I will be able to drive and move out
to do my own things. I will also be responsible to pay for my own food, my own bills, and to be
responsible to go to work. Being my age now I will soon have to do things on my own and cannot rely
on people reminding me of my responsibilities. The third aspect of my personal life is my location.

Human Rights Violations In Congo
According to the human rights established by the United Nations, freedom universally applies to
citizens across the globe, entitled to each demographic in existence. Unfortunately, however one may
suggest the opportunities present among the entirety of the human race, obedience of such scriptures
cannot be achieved without enforcement, among the most appalling of violations being the
exploitation of youth by the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Contradictory to
international law, the forced recruitment of youth has contributed to a life expectancy and literacy rate
substantially below average, thus resulting in a vast quantity of psychological trauma from the abuse
of those within its domain, in which the obligation of childhood recruitment proceeds without

Ultimately, Boone Coleman did not complete its work until 397 days after the agreed project
completion date. Upon completion, the Village paid Boone Coleman $535,823 for its work.
Boone Coleman filed suit seeking the balance of the $683,300 contract price and additional
compensation for extra work. The Village denied liability to Boone Coleman, counterclaimed for
$277,900 in liquidated damages, and moved for summary judgment in its favor.
Court Decision:
The trial court granted the motion for summary judgment, determining that the Village was not liable
to Boone Coleman, and that Boone Coleman was liable to the Village for liquidated damages.
Further Action by the parties: The general contractor, Boon Coleman, filed an appeal at the Court Of
Appeals of Ohio, Fourth Appellate District, Pike County 2014 Ohio 2377, and it was to his favor. On
appeal, the Court of Appeals of Ohio reversed the portion of the trial court s judgment that enforced
the contractual liquidated damages provision. The Court of Appeals of Ohio held that a liquidated
damages provision in a public construction contract constituted an unenforceable penalty because the
amount of liquidated damages pursued was almost a third of the original cost of the contract which
was unreasonable and disproportionate.

Persuasive Strategies For Selling Your House
If you are reading this, probably you are one of the homeowners who is having a hard time in selling a
property in Brooklyn.
Everybody knows that there are a lot of inventories on the market right now. And you will have to
compete against foreclosures out there, which are heavily discounted.
If your property is located in Brooklyn NY, especially in Bed Stuy (Bedford Stuyvesant) or Bushwick
areas, whose Zip Codes are 11212, 11213,11216,11233, 11238, 11206, 11221 and 11237, you must
have been definitely having a tough time, since foreclosure rates are much higher than that of the rest
of Brooklyn.
But still, even in this downturn market, you can sell your house fairly quickly.

Real estate agents are familiar with all the above and they can handle them for you. Their experience
can impact the sale.
In order to save $30,000 in commission, would you hire an attorney, a title company, and an insurance
company by yourself to make a deal happen? Are you really a good negotiator to ask for an offer? If
you are NOT that kind of person, things would be very tough for you.
2) Hiring a real estate agent (Realtor)
Pros for hiring a Realtor are already covered the above. Cons are that in this competitive market for
the sellers, agents may not able to help you sell fast. Most agents are taught only very conventional
ways of marketing homes. Putting your property on MLS (Multiple Listing Service) and put up a For
Sale sign in the yard, and maybe do some advertisement in newspapers. But that s about it. And the
next step is just wait and wait and wait... Because of the terrible economy, where the demand for
homes has subsided, you shouldn t be surprised if it takes 6 8 months to have your home sold through
an agent.
Therefore, you really have to hire an experienced real estate agent who has closed on at least 20 30
properties a year. You can get a real estate agent s license in 4 days. Having the license doesn t mean
he or she is an expert in selling a house. The truth is only 5 10 percent of the agents know what they
really doing. You should be careful in choosing who to

What Soldiers Do Summary
In her book What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in WWII France, Mary Louise Roberts looks
at the intertwining of World War II and sexual expression of American GIs. Far from what the
wholesome magazine of the time Stars and Stripes would print, Roberts delves into the seemingly
consuming nature of the sexual interactions between GIs and mostly French women. Unresponsive to
threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and promiscuity.
Though Roberts outlines other relationships soldiers had between children and other citizens of
France, she emphasizes that the preconceived notion of the so called easiness of French women plus
the seemingly primitive culture and weakness of men noticed upon the GI s arrival warped Franco
American Relations. As André Siegfried noticed, Americans were thrust into global engagement ...

With extensive support from personal journals, police records, comics, and photographs, Roberts
paints the relationship between GIs and French women. She begins with GIs as liberators and the
American Romanticization of their occupation of France. Though truly the American Military
disrupted French autonomy and governance, through steamy photos of Frenchwomen bestowing
kisses on soldiers the Military is able to paint a picture of GIs benevolence and appeal. Roberts
indicates an instance where women expressed fear of men s infidelity after seeing those photos,
reaffirming GIs masculinity and confidence while putting anxiety and inferiority onto the backs of
American Riveters. GIs saw themselves as liberators giving candy to starving children, rescuing weak
French men from German prisons, and creating infrastructure in primitive villages. And, of course,
sexually satisfying French women. However, their overlording of France creates clashes when, as
prostitution grows exponentially, they refuse to take responsibility or secede

  • 3. The Big Short Movie Essay The Big Short is a movie that discusses the housing market crash in 2008. As you may know, the banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that you went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one idea that changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgage back security. A mortgage back security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use your mortgage to start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average mortgage loan has a fixed rate loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle them all together. They thought these would still be less risky because who would not pay their mortgage. They were doing hundreds of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all changed when they ran out of mortgages to put into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there was nothing left to make money, and the banking world was going to back to the way it was. Rather than letting that happen, the banks made a loan called a subprime loan. Subprime loans were not like the fixed rate loans at all. Subprime loans have interest rates that raise quickly, where fixed rate loans stay the same. In the movie, when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Song Of Roland Analysis In Song of Roland, the ideas of chivalry and loyalty to one s king are central. Throughout the text, the author uses the concepts of good versus evil, shown by the Christians versus Muslims, as well as loyalty versus treason, shown by Roland versus Ganelon, to highlight and exemplify the ideals of the code of knighthood. The main character, Roland, is often presented as being an exemplary knight; he personifies the conventional chivalric values of the time such as bravery and loyalty, but he also struggles to balance these values in order to be a responsible leader. Roland is in stark contrast to his stepfather, Ganelon, as well as being in slight contrast to his close friend, Oliver. These contrasts of character come to a climax as the battle against the Muslim army at Roncesvalles begins; Oliver and Roland debate over whether they should call the king to help them, leading to the eventual demise of the French army. This specific scene brings to light the ideological dilemma of bravery versus wisdom and logic, by utilizing Roland as an example of the former, and Oliver of the latter. Roland, as evidenced by this situation, displays perfect loyalty to one s king and God by being incredibly brave in the face of danger, making sacrifices that he sees are necessary, and fought valiantly until his death, all the while keeping the utmost faith in his God and king. Throughout Song of Roland, Roland often puts himself in extreme amounts of danger, without fear of the consequences for himself or others; he was often brave even to the point of excess. In his bravery, he often overlooks the concerns and feelings of others, even those of his closest companions. For example, from the beginning of the battle with the Muslims it was quite obvious that the small rear guard led by Roland had no chance of victory; they were just too small. When Oliver suggests using the oliphant to call King Charlemagne s aid, Roland refuses, saying [m]ay it never please god that my kin should be shamed because of me, or that sweet France should fall into disgrace. Never! Never! I ll strike with Durendal, I ll strike with this good sword strapped to my side, you ll see this blade running its whole length with blood (1,062 1,067). While ... • 5. South Australia And The Environmental Aspect Of The... To most, Australia is thought to be mostly an area of sand and dirt roads with kangaroos hoping allover, but in reality it has multiple climates due to the large area. The northern part has a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, and part desert. In the south, a temperate climate and discreetly fruitful soil can be found. With a nation active, large and variable as Australia, it may be a learning point for the United States of America. With the legislation and active energy conservation department that is well funded, we may be able to adapt these ideas and incorporate them into our society and government. However, not everything in Aussie is so green. The main focus of this paper will be on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to its location, the seasons in South Australia are opposite of those here; for example, their summer is from December to February. Therefore, S.A s winter is during the months of June August, however rather than snow, an annual average of 40 inches of rain occurs. Although temperate, most of South Australia resembles the red rock areas of Colorado and New Mexico where the red land meets the bright blue skies. An exception to this desert like landscape is the Southernmost point of South Australia, known as Kangaroo Island has a rather diverse landscape which includes a beautiful marine life, caves and caverns, robust fields and majestic deserts. A majority of the Island, and rightfully so, are homes to several resorts. • 7. Essay about Renaissance Man and Renaissance Women Between the 1300s and 1500s, Europe experienced a period of cultural rebirth known as the Renaissance, marking the transition from medieval times to modern times. The Renaissance brought new importance to individual expression, self consciousness and worldly experience. The Renaissance man and woman characterized the Renaissance ideals. A renaissance man was a well educated gentleman who had cultural grace, courage and who understood the arts and sciences. Doctors gather to discuss the matter. They have trouble naming the disease at first, and refuse to accept it for what it is. This reflects the whole attitude of the town, as the citizens do they very same thing. Doctors in particular are the first attempt to combat the disease. The individual efforts are valiant but have a negligible effect. An epidemic is a problem, which belongs not to a person but to people. It becomes apparent, however that it cannot merely be one who must oppose the plague. No matter what the doctors do one their own, they cannot stop the dying. The number of victims lost to the plague climbs higher and higher. Emspak, J. (2014, August 12) shows that natural gas production by fracking has expanded gas production by 32 times the amount in 2008. This lowered the cost 40% over that span of time. The demand for clean cost efficient power production shifted production from coal fired to natural gas plants. A trend in U.S. Energy Information Administration s (2017) data showed renewable sector s power production since 2008 grew only 5.7% as compared to natural gas production 18%. Another disadvantage to the diversion from renewables is the additional carbon dioxide generated from these additional plants operating. About 24 percent of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions are related to natural gas in 2011 (Natural gas prices. (n.d.)). The replacement of coal fired power plants with natural gas has let to a decrease of the green house gases, mainly particulate matter and sulfur dioxide emissions. From the produced spectrogram, a Fast Fourier transform (FFT)/ Power spectrum will be generated to display fundamental frequency and harmonics of the produced vowel, typically vowels are between 0 to 3000 Hz. Mean Speaking Frequency (MSF) or Speaking Fundamental Frequency (SFF) measures the average speaking frequency during: conversational speech, reading, counting, sustained phonation at the end of a given word, or sustained phonation at a comfortable pitch and loudness. A fundamental frequency analyzer is used to formulate MSF/SFF. The rationale for using a MSF measure is that it would provide measurements of the average rate of vocal fold vibration during connected/continuous speech (averaging of the client s frequencies). Furthermore, it will provide an insight of the client s habitual pitch and reveal information of her vocal fold function. Expected results: Typically, females have a fundamental frequency ranging between G3 (196 Hz) and A3 (220 Hz). Ms. Noid s MSF result will demonstrate an inconsistent pitch due her paralyzed vocal fold. Her vocal fold pathology impairs the left vocal fold to lengthen and decrease its mass and stiffness (impairment of Thyroarytenoid and Cricothyroid). Consequently, Ms. Noid s vocal folds might vibrate at different frequencies (diplophonia); have a decreased MSF measure, disrupted vocal fold vibration, and inadequate glottal closure, which would cause a decrease in subglottic pressure. Ms. Noid s fundamental frequency would be affected (perceptual correlate of pitch), therefore, reducing her flexibility, and changing her vocal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These variables are related because they demonstrate positive correlations in the scatterplots of Age of First Reproduction (years), Maximum Lifespan (years), and Observed Brain Size (cc) of the species, in relation to an increasing Body Mass (kg). By examining these variables, the Encephalization Quotient (EQ), Age at First Reproduction, and Maximum Lifespan are then compared amongst humans and various apes. It is suggested that the EQ, Age at First Reproduction, Maximum Lifespan of humans are higher than other apes. In this project, we investigated the difference of the EQ, Age at First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that the estimates were inaccurate because they were both too high or too low, as indicated in the data. Referencing the scatterplot of Observed Brain Size (cc) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the relative brain size for the fossil hominins increases as the body mass of the species increases. Likewise, referencing the scatterplot of Age at First Reproduction (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average age at first reproduction of species increases as the body mass increases. Lastly, referencing the scatterplot of Maximum Lifespan (yrs) versus Body Mass (kg), the data demonstrate that the average Maximum Lifespan of species increases as their Body Mass increases. However, there is an outlier in all three of these graphs, presumably the data of humans, in which their body mass yields higher values of age at first reproduction, maximum lifespan, and observed brain size, suggesting a slow life history compared to other species. Moreover, by observing the measures of EQ for the species, the relative brain size for the fossil hominins can aid us in reconstructing their life histories by demonstrating how deviated the observed brain sizes are when compared to the expected brain size. Therefore, by measuring the EQ with the observed brain size and the expected brain size, it allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Social Aspects Of Gender In No Country For Old Men What is gender and how is gender determined? Gender is the way humans are categorized into a culture and is also the key to the entrance of a society. The two common genders that are recognizable throughout every culture across the world are male and female. Commonly, gender is decided quickly after birth, or sometimes even before birth, by using the parts of one s anatomy to categorize the new born. What the new born doesn t know is that once they grow up, they will have to abide by a set of rules to stay in their gender grouping, male or female. All too commonly, though, it can be seen that once the males grow up, they gain a sense of power, this power being one that shadows the females and leaves the females empty handed compared to the males, the so called superior breed. The film No Country for Old Men by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen illustrates that men are dominant over men, but most importantly, men are dominant over women, which parallels with Aaron H. Devor s essay, Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender . Furthermore, the film presents the idea that when males are given too much power, they turn into a feared monster that is a desired, which is fulfilled by fear and attraction. These take advantage of the fact that diazonium salts produce nitrogen as they decompose upon exposure to UV radiation. In vesicular films, diazonium salt coating is sandwiched between two base layers. The film is exposed via contact printing from a master, and the image is developed by heating the film. This momentarily softens the base material and causes expanding nitrogen to form tiny bubbles or vesicles that remain when the film is cooled. Typically, residual photosensitive material is then fixed by exposing the film to UV radiation, causing complete decay of the diazonium salts. Incident light passes through the clear areas of the film but is scattered and reflected by the bubbles, causing those areas with vesicles to appear dense. The image will always exhibit slightly raised areas. The film base is always polyester because acetate cannot tolerate the heat used in processing. Vesicular film can easily be damaged by mechanical pressure, which can collapse the bubbles. Another major vulnerability of vesicular film is bubble migration or movement. At high temperatures, the base material softens allowing the gas contained in the bubbles to expand. As the bubbles grow in size, they can rupture, leaving patches of clear film where the image was formerly visible. When something negative happens to any of us we tend to isolate ourselves, leaving ourselves to our thoughts for a while before blending back into society. This isolation is good for a while, it allows us to clear our heads and think things through before going back into a normal routine. Prolonged isolation however, has been proven to be potentially dangerous. By relating the tone of the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. • 28. Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause cancer. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020, individuals should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar (US Department of Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone (Oncology Nutrition, 2016). The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015). However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, 2012) reports that elevated blood sugar levels lead to mutations in DNA, which ... • 29. Class Disparities In The Victorian Era While there were many advancements in technology and literature in the Victorian Era, there were also many disadvantages; these included child labor, class disparities, and atrocious living conditions. There were incredible novels, artwork, and machinery created during the Victorian Era. However, the people were treated horribly. Children were put to work, and severely abused while they were there. The poor were seen as dirt on the bottom of the upper class s shoes, and were rarely allowed to advance in society. Citizens lived in squalor, and many became ill because of it. Victorian society will always have a negative connotation because of how the people were treated during that time. Dickens is a major proponent of that connotation. He wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The upper classes had all of the political power, and the middle and lower classes had absolutely none. There was also a group below the working class called the sunken class. They lived in poverty and struggled immensely in their daily lives. While the lower class people were working for a living, the rich were living glamorously. They had large houses, plots of land, and maids and butlers. Even with all of these amenities, the upper class paid no taxes. The citizens under the aristocrats paid nearly all of the taxes, even though they worked for pennies a day. This created hostility towards the upper class, and made the class disparity even more severe. In A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge was a wealthy, upper class man. He did not do anything to help the poor or the lower class society. Meanwhile, Bob Cratchit had a sizable family that lived in a cramped house, and struggled to make ends meet. Scrooge treated Bob Cratchit, his employee, poorly, and said multiple times that the poor should be able to work their way out of poverty. He was incredibly disconnected from the lower classes, and this showed in his treatment of them. He was unaware of the struggles of the poor, and he was unwilling to learn until he was forced to. This is one very apparent example in fiction of the class disparities of Victorian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. What Soldiers Do Summary In her book What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in WWII France, Mary Louise Roberts looks at the intertwining of World War II and sexual expression of American GIs. Far from what the wholesome magazine of the time Stars and Stripes would print, Roberts delves into the seemingly consuming nature of the sexual interactions between GIs and mostly French women. Unresponsive to threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and promiscuity. Though Roberts outlines other relationships soldiers had between children and other citizens of France, she emphasizes that the preconceived notion of the so called easiness of French women plus the seemingly primitive culture and weakness of men noticed upon the GI s arrival warped Franco American Relations. As André Siegfried noticed, Americans were thrust into global engagement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With extensive support from personal journals, police records, comics, and photographs, Roberts paints the relationship between GIs and French women. She begins with GIs as liberators and the American Romanticization of their occupation of France. Though truly the American Military disrupted French autonomy and governance, through steamy photos of Frenchwomen bestowing kisses on soldiers the Military is able to paint a picture of GIs benevolence and appeal. Roberts indicates an instance where women expressed fear of men s infidelity after seeing those photos, reaffirming GIs masculinity and confidence while putting anxiety and inferiority onto the backs of American Riveters. GIs saw themselves as liberators giving candy to starving children, rescuing weak French men from German prisons, and creating infrastructure in primitive villages. And, of course, sexually satisfying French women. However, their overlording of France creates clashes when, as prostitution grows exponentially, they refuse to take responsibility or secede ...
