The World War II By Kenneth D. Rose
In the decades since World War II, there have been many attempts to glorify this
generation through the media. Myth and the Greatest Generation: A Social
History of Americans in World War II by Kenneth D. Rose, attempts to pare back
the delusions of grandeur that often characterize histories of the World War II
generation to show society as it was rather than how we have come to perceive it.
Rose claims that often times when commentators focus on wars, they choose
stories that are meant to make the population feel good as opposed to showing the
realities. As a result, in retrospect wars seem to generate heightened patriotism and
national unity (1). In this book, Rose hopes to give true honor to the Americans of
this generation, not by glorifying their contributions, but by presenting a picture
more in line with the historical record, hoping that in doing so his work will
deliver a more accurate portrayal of Americans at war (3). Rose chooses not to rely
heavily on secondary source material, but rather to highlight the first hand accounts
of individuals who experienced the war. He does so in order to give them proper
credit but also to show that the so called Greatest Generation was not without flaws,
and was indeed an ordinary generation that lived through traumatic events that tested
their character (7). Rose divides the book into four parts, focusing first on Americans
Abroad. He looks at the accounts of not only the soldiers themselves, but also the war

Dramatic Tension In Macbeth
On a foul thunderous day in Scotland, Macbeth a tragic hero is forced to seek out
witches in hope to know what his future entails. This visit is set of a dark and filthy
cave referred to as the heath. The failed assassinating of Fleance and Macduff rude
disregard for Macbeths banquet foreshadows Macbeth actions at this point in the play.
Macbethfeels insecure with regards to prolonging his kingship if Fleance, Banquos
heir still lives. His fear is a result of a prophecy by the witches upon Banquo s life,
before he was brutally assassinated by murders hired by Macbeth. The witches are
an emblem of his state of mind and a test of his human agency. The aim of this essay
is to explore how William Shakespeareattempts to use dramatic tension to plot the
tragedy and ultimately question... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes that they speak truth good caution and can really foretell the future since
both of their prophecies that he will be Thane of Cawdor and ultimately King of
Scotland come true. Therefore Macbeth deliberately seeks out the sisters whereas
their initially encounter was accidental. What Macbeth doesn t realize is that the
weird sisters are cunning and deceitful in their prophecies. The weird sisters first tell
Macbeth a known fact, that he is Thane of Glamis , in order to gain his trust so that
ultimately everything they say thereafter he believes. Similarly in this encounter the
weird sister use the same form of trickery on him. This is evident in their first
apparition Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff. The audience, as well
Macbeth already knows that Macduff threatens Macbeth s reign hence he boycotted
the banquet. They meet at their initial meeting place, the heath and the encounter is
still dominated with thunder, darkness and conjuring up of spirits. In his first
encounter with the weird sister Macbeth thought of them as fantastical , intriguing
and of strange intelligence and he spoke to them with respect speak if you
The Chemistry Of Organic Contaminants
Over the past ten years, the Institute of Gas Technology, now Gas Technology
Institute (GTI), USA and others have conducted research on the bioremediation of
organic contaminants in soil. Most of this work has been associated with remediation
of former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites, soils from industrial areas and oil
production areas have also been studied. The results have shown that: (1) organic
contaminants are biodegraded by indigenous soil microorganisms to a concentration
that no longer decreases, or that decreases very slowly, with continued treatment; (2)
reductions below this concentration are limited by the availability of the
contaminants to the microorganisms; and (3) the residual contaminants that remain
after biological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacterial enzymes will catalyze the insertion of oxygen into the hydrocarbon so that
the molecule can subsequently be consumed by cellular metabolism. Because of this
oxygen is one of the most important requirements for the biodegradation of oil. Table
1 shows the list of some of the microorganisms which are involved in the
bioremediation of oil contamination.
Microbial Seeding
Oil degrading microorganisms seem to be ubiquitous, with their number typically
limited by the hydrocarbon supply (Namazi et al., 2008). Another approach is to add
exogenous microorganisms with known degradative activities, either natural isolates
or engineered (Narasimhan et al., 1983). Seeding involves the introduction of
allochthonous microorganisms into the natural environment for the purpose of
increasing the rate or extent, or both of biodegradation of pollutants. The rationale for
this approach is that the autochthonous microorganisms may not be capable of
degrading the wide range of potential substrates present in complex mixtures such as
petroleum (Raghavan, 1998). Terrestrial ecosystems differ from aquatic ecosystems in
that soils contain higher concentrations of organic and inorganic matter and
generally, large number of microorganisms and are more variable in terms of physical
and chemical conditions (Bossert et al., 1984). The presence of indigenous
microorganisms which are highly adapted to a particular environment would
negatively influence the
Temperature Of A Frog Lab Report
Effects of Temperature on a Frog
INTRODUCTION:
Amphibians are cold blooded animals that adapt to the surrounding temperatures.
Frogs are one kind of amphibian. Frogs are cold blooded. Cold blooded animals are
more active in warmer temperatures and stagnant when it is cold. A frogs system is
always moving, but depending on the temperature it is exposed to, its breaths aren t
always clearly visible or at a constant rate. A frog s skin is able to take in oxygen in
exchange for carbon dioxide, so all of a frog s breathing isn t done through its
lungs. Water is a compound made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
Molecules in warmer water move around at a faster speed than molecules in colder
water. The problem to be solved is what the effect of different water temperatures
have on a frog s breathing rate.
HYPOTHESIS:
If a frog is put in 30в„ѓ water, then the frog will have a higher breathing rate than the
control frog.
MATERIALS:

The data from the chart and graph show a drop in the number of breaths when the
temperature drops. The frog had an average breathing rate of 104 breaths per minute
when it was put in the highest temperature tested (30в„ѓ). Once the frog was placed
in 10в„ѓ, it had an average breathing rate of zero breaths per minute. The frog took
more breaths in the warm water. Since the frog is cold blooded, its body
temperature changes depending on the environment. Because molecules move
quickly in warmer water, the frog s respiratory system circulates faster. Molecules
moving slower in colder water do not allow the frog to take in as much oxygen as
often. Therefore, a warmer temperature makes a frog s breathing rate per minute
increase while a colder temperature makes it
The Digital Era And Emergence Of Mobile Apps
Digital magazines have increasingly captured the attention of the media industry due
to their ability to attract readers through interactive content, without involving high
costs in production and distribution as traditional magazines. In todays world, a
consumer wants everything to be readily available and user friendly. In order to keep
up with technology, most magazine publishers have adapted the digitalization of
magazines into creating applications for arguably, devices that no reader can live
without, the mobile phone or tablet. Changes in tradition from paperback to digital
affect important factors such as customer loyalty, efficiency of readers, and changes
in revenues for magazines. Although there have been a large number of... Show more

During the past decade, a typical publishing model would ve included a print
edition along with a website supported by social media, however due to the ever
growing mobile phones and tablet business, publishers needed to adapt to the
change in demand by adding more apps and digital editions with its print versions.
Hogarth (2014) suggests that due to the rise of digital magazines, it is likely that by
2016, a high percentage of publications will be in digital or online formats only.
Business users are particularly intrigued with the prospect of having mobile serve as
another revenue generating channel. A survey undertaken by Opinion Matters,
sponsored by OutSystems, shows that more than 200 UK and US respondents were
asked about the primary goal of their new mobile app initiatives, and 64% said their
main aim was to generate revenue. (digitalmarketingmagazine.co.uk)

The Effects Of Fungal Diseases
diseases in addition to physiological disorder. However, fungal diseases, especially
rust is considered one of the major destructive diseases affecting the crop yield
(Hagedron, 1984 and Kraft, and Pfleger, 2001), especially in the north and middle
parts of the Delta in Egypt and several countries in the world (Abada et al., 1997;
Gupta and Shayam, 1998 and Parilli et al., 2015).
The fungus Uromyces pisi is a heteroecious rust pathogen, completing its life cycle
on two host plant species. The sexual stages are completed on Euphorbia cyparissias
(cypress spurge), while the asexual lifecycle stages are completed on leguminous
crop hosts such as Lathyrus, Orobus, Pisum and Vicia spp. E. cyparissias is an erect,

The nectar contains fungal gametes (spermatia) that are transferred by nectar feeding
insects (including bees and ants) from one fungal mating type to another. Once
fertilization has occurred, aeciospores are released which infect leguminous host
plants including field peas.
Managing plant diseases with fungicides sometimes gives good results. However,
improper use of fungicides leads mostly to environmental pollution, disasters
throughout the world and the phenomena of resistance to the causal pathogens
(Brewer and Larkin, 2005). Therefore, to overcome these difficulties, it is urgent to
apply alternative safe efficient methods against such disease or at least rationalization
their application.
Biological control is considered an important approach of agricultural biotechnology
in recent years for controlling many fungal plant pathogens. Both Bacillus and
Trichoderma spp. are the most promising and effective bioagents against
various plant pathogenic fungi (Deshmukh et al., 2010; Barakat et al., 2014 and
Ragab et al., 2015). Trichoderma as antagonist is much more complex, that is nutrient
competition, hyperparasitism, antibiosis, space and cell wall degrading enzymes
(Abd El Khair et al., 2010 and Junid et al., 2013).
It was also found that there is a large variety of volatile secondary metabolites
produced by Trichoderma spp. such as ethylene, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide,
aldehydes and ketones which play an important role in controlling many plant

report you must indicate: a) name of the venue; b) exact location; c) day and time
of your visit; d) whether it is a franchise or independent restaurant; e) its external
appearance; f) its internal appearance; g) the approximate number of staff at the
time of your visit; h) the approximate number of costumers at the time of you visit;
i) the menu and the average price of starters, entrees, and drinks; j) the treatment
you received. Once you have all the information, you are expected to draw some
conclusions on the venue with respect to the clientele it caters to and whether or
not, in your opinion, it is a good fit for the BIA where it is located. You might take
pictures if useful to substantiate your argument (I do not want website pictures, only
pictures taken by you). For Assignment 3, you will discuss transportation in the BIA

Amanda Clark s phone conversation came to an abrupt end when her Chevrolet
Trailblazer rolled three times before landing on its roof. She had run a stop sign
and was broadsided by another driver. Metal caved in around her, but the roof
stayed intact and she survived with just scrapes and bruises (Tracy). Amanda Clark
survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn t as lucky the
second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away
and focus on driving. Clark s Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, I thought this would be a

Although distracted driving is a problem for all drivers, it specifically is a major
problem for teenagers. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for
American teens. When it comes to distracted driving, young people are the most

The Rise of Environmentalism in the United States Essay
The Rise of Environmentalism in the United States Eden; it is a word that, for most,
inspires thoughts of lush green trees, untarnished fruit, soft green grass, perfect blue
skies, and harmony within nature. According to Judeo Christian teachings, this is
similar to the state in which the world began. It was an environment unspoiled by
humans, unblemished by their pollution. Such a pristine utopia is often hard for a
person to imagine today amongst the industrial smokestacks and their billowing gray
clouds, between the rancid landfill mounds, and surrounded by stagnant pools of oil
slicked water. The environment in America today is far from Eden, but there is a

However, until around 1920 nature was little more than the supplier of life
sustaining necessities3. From nature Americans obtained wood for their homes,
fuel for their fires, and plants and game for their meals. At this time the concern for
nature was not for it s innate beauty or pure state, but rather for it s productivity. If
nature was providing ample food and shelter is was serving its necessitated
purpose. As the American economy grew in the 1920 s so too did peoples
personal finances. With a booming economy people had larger spending, or
discretionary funds. This brought upon the shift from a market of necessities to a
market of convenience goods. At this point there is still very little mention of the
environment. One could argue that the Soil Conservation Act of 1933 showed
concern for the environment, but the real motive behind the Act was a concern for
crop productivity. With a passing of the Soil Conservation and the similar Taylor
Grazing Act, the idea of natural resources is popularized. The idea of natural
resources, however, still portrays the idea that people saw nature as a service to
humans. It isn t until the F. D. Roosevelt administration that nature is preserved
simply for being natural. The era of FDR was one of secure economy and growing
incomes. With the popularization of the automobile, people began urbanizing around
cities and living further from their work places, many gained leisure and vacation
time, and for the first time

Kent State University Shooting Essay
The Boston Massacre and the killings that took place at Kent State University
occured 200 year apart from each other, but there is a striking resemblance between
the two events. It is evident that history repeats itself. Both of the events were
brought on by tensions between the powers that be and the people, became so
violent that officials were forced to take charge, and after tragedy occurred, no one
suffered any consequences.
The Boston Massacre of 1770 was fated to happen once Parliament passed the
Townshend Actsof 1767 on the American colonies. These acts placed taxes on
goods such as glass, tea, and paper. When these taxes reached throughout the
colonies, colonists began to boycott British items, and some of them rioted. Things
were getting out of control, so in the following year, Parliament sent soldiers over to
the Americas to suppress it. The presence of British troops only served as another

An Example Of Personal Listening
Listening is one of the most important processes in any sphere of life, such as
business, education and relationships. Listening is more than just hearing voices and
noise, listening means concentrating, giving attention to someone talking, be open
minded, attending in the discussion (Schilling, par.3), and understanding what the
person is actually interpreting, using body expression and words (Giang, par.1).
These skills are required for success and a goodlife. They give the solution of
conflicts and difficulties, develop correctness, guarantee comprehension and create
reliable relationships (Schilling, par.1). Considering all this, it will be presented an
example of someone s listening skills by an observation and an analysis and the
ways of improvement of my personal listening skills.

I observed the negotiation from an outside angle for about half an hour at my
uncle s office. During the discussion, I absorbed if the customer was a good
listener. I tried to figure out his bad and good habits in his listening skills regarding
the information I learned in class and the material I read. During my observation, I
noticed a few things which I considered as important for a successful business and
working time, such as their suitable clothes and professional standing. In the
beginning, the customer appeared as a good listener. As Dianne Schilling said, facing
the person talking, having eye contact with him and keeping an open mind are
important habits for an effective listening (par.2, 4). Most of the time, the customer
faced my uncle and had eye contact with him showing the good habits of a listener.
Indeed as Vivian Giang said, knowing and following what the other personis saying
considering the verbal and nonverbal indications has a huge impact in effective
listening (par.1, 14, 15). The customer did follow my uncle while talking, but there
were a few cases he felt lost in the discussion. The reason, he felt lost, was that
The Pros And Cons Of Fear Of Black Americans
The fear in black Americans has been a continuing issue for a long period of time
in America. The black Americans fear death, violence, and racial discrimination
out in the streets and schools due to the white people on how they view black
Americans because of the color of their skin. These views by white people make
them feel empower than the people of color. Being black in America was to have
many disadvantages and the mistrust by other people. According to the author, To
be black in the Baltimore of my youth was to be naked before the elements of the
world, before all the guns, fists, knives, crack, rape, and disease. The law did not
protect us. And now, in your time, the law has come an excuse for stopping and

How An E Commerce Business Should Be Set Up

with selling merchandise online and both make a decent secondary income stream
by doing it. With our own knowledge and experience, along with the new knowledge

was a sleek, safe, and professional choice that is on almost all computers. Our slides
came out simple and clean that had identical alignments, avoided capital letters, was
at a readable size and had perfect spacing for the audience. We also used data driven
charts to reinforce our message and information. We took screenshots from Google
Trends when comparing inclinations of niches of the classmates and designed a
pie chart as our opening slide geared towards the 67% of students that had thought
about starting their own business one day. Inside the Google Trend screenshots,
we created a line that was declining or inclining as a reference point for the
audience to see the trend more easily. On one other screenshot, we showed a visual
of a web page that was initially in our survey. The question had asked what area of
the web page stood out the most when first looked at. We drew a red rectangle
around the most popular answer, which was an area that 93% of students clicked on.
Lastly, we used a fade animation on the PowerPoint to add clarification, importance
and focus the attention to a single point so the audience didn t read ahead.

A Short Note On The E Commerce Market
1. Critically analyze the factors that led to Alibaba sustaining its leadership position
in the Chinese e commerce market. During the late 1990 s and early 2000 s, the
internet was not very popular in China and people were ignorant to its proper use.
Knowing this, Jack Ma decided to start this internet user friendly company that would
allow his clients to perform business transactions with other businesses/suppliers in
China. He first started the company on a local level and as Alibaba has seen success
it has been expanding to the global market. Some of the factors that contributed to the
success of Alibaba in the Chinese e commerce industry were:
First mover advantage: Alibaba has a first mover advantage that makes it very hard
for competitors to chip away at their lead in the market. (Dick Wei, Analyst, J.P.
Morgan Securities Inc.,2 in 2007). Alibaba started its operations when e commerce in
China was in its infancy stage. Considering the potential of the budding e commerce
market, Alibaba started with operations that concentrated on providing B2B services
to SMEs that were aspiring to go global.
Smart competitive and marketing strategies: From an early stage, Alibaba had been
focusing on differentiating itself by providing better services to its customer. It put an
innovative business model in place where customers could try out its services without
any cost. Over time, it was able to generate revenue from alternative streams and
increase revenue as
Organizational Change
My company needs serious organizational change in two areas. First is improving our
vendor payment processes. We have been having problems getting the funds to our
vendors on time and sometimes paid them the wrong amounts due to our current
process. This problem must be fixed for the future of our relationships with our
vendors, suppliers, and contractor agencies. We must establish a changethat will help
repair and build the relationships and ensure the we also receive our merchandise in
a timely fashion. The other area that needs to be improved is our company culture
by means of employee evaluation. Currently, our employee evaluations are based on
a numerical scale, measuring performance in a 1 to 5 basis. This leaves almost no

Visions set forth the expected future of the company. In regards to a specific
change, a vision will tell demonstrate what the expected result of this change is and
essentially why anyone should care about this change. The initial creation of this
vision could take several months to put together. This step involves laying out the
goals that this change is trying to achieve. Our goals for changing the vendor
payment process is to make it more effective. We want to ensure that our vendors
are being paid on time and accurately. This in turn ensures that we receive out
merchandise on time and that are contractors are paid correctly and on time. The
long term goal of this change is to maintain great relationships with our vendors. Our
vision for changing the culture of the company by means of employee evaluation is
to promote internal growth. We as a company pride ourselves on offering the tools to
help our employees grow and develop within the company. The vision must also be
communicated in a way that is convincing and motivating. We ll cover that a little

wanted to stop Hitler from killing innocent people that didn t deserve to die. This
was way more than just a victory, it showed people that we are not afraid to attack
other people when we need to. This battle that we won gave hope to America. Even
though many people died, we still won. After flying bullets, bombs, machine guns,

Midsummer Night s Dream Act 3
The first scene I read of Act three of A Midsummer Night s Dream might be my
favorite so far. Act three of A Midsummer Night s Dream begins with the characters
Quince, Bottom, Snout, Starveling, and Flute, previously introduced in an earlier
act, discussing a prologue to their play. They were worried that ladies in the
audience would find the lion too frightening, and would have the actors punished, so
they wrote a prologue explaining the falsity of the lion. They then discuss adding a
character of a wall to the play. I personally found this scene hilarious, it adds a
perfect amount of comic relief to the story, and adds more character to the commoners
putting on the play. It was assuredly the scene that most stuck out, or caught my eye.
Robin then walks into the commoners practicing. He watches them practice, and
seemingly inexplicably, turns Bottom s head into an ass s head. Robin s dialogue
seemed to indicate that he was bored, that may be the reason of the inexplicable
head swapping. When Titania wakes up, the first thing she sees is Bottom, with an
ass s head, she immediately falls in love due to the flower juice earlier. Oberon, of
course, is very pleased with how his plan has turned out. Demetrius and Hermia
argue in the forest over finding Lysander, Hermia eventually exits in a rage. Oberon
realizes that Robin made a mistake, by dripping the juice into the wrong man s eye.
He immediately asks Robin to find Helena and bring her to him ... Show more content

This forest was introduced in a previous Act, but it is the only setting of Act three.
The forest was said to be not part of Athenian territory by Lysander in a previous
act, also. There haven t been any major characters introduced in the act at all. The
minor characters of Titania s fairy servants were introduced, but they play a very
small role. It seems that Shakespeare introduced almost his whole character list in the
beginning of A Midsummer Night s

liquid that can be placed in any liquid without detection, and in that day and age its
primary use was rodent killer. This blatancy was done to ensure that the audience
would hold onto the thought of where did Emily hide the body for she herself was

Stem Cell Research Essay
We all started off as an embryo. At one point in time, we were a small bundle of
cells that would one day become who we are today. Those cells were essential to
our body and the development of the fetuses that were us. Put yourself in the place
of an embryo. You are a small blastocyst or a bunch of cell, only about 0.1
millimeters big. Even though you are slight and may seem insignificant, you hold
all the opportunities of life. You have a soul and are alive, because you will
become a human. The possibilities are endless; you could be a surfer, an artist, a
chef, or anything else you wish. Now, imagine being taken out of the womb and you
are killed. Then, experiments are conducted on you. All the potentials are now gone,
and in their place... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people however, argue that stem cell research is unethical. The debate on stem
cell research being ethical is still ongoing. Arguments are made supporting both sides
of the debate, and many claim that embryos have a moral status. The embryos are a
potential human life and they should be treated with as much respect as anyone.
They have a chance of becoming like any one of us, and that is taken away from
them when they are experimented on. A human embryois a human being in the
embryonic stage, just as an infant is a human being in the infant stage (Hug 2).
They are still alive and have souls just like the rest of us. Embryos are what we all
have started off as, and we were given a chance to live. We can t pinpoint when a
human life begins and so we should give a moral status to all humans no matter
what stage of life they are in. Not only are we snatching away the moral status of
these embryos, but we are doing so for someone else s benefit. The experiments of
stem cell research are done on dead fetuses, so we are basically swapping one death
for another. The research that is conducted on these dead fetuses is to help find
cures for people who are dying with diseases. The research conducted is giving up
one live to help another person. We should not be experimenting on a dead life to
help someone else. There have been other experiments in history that have been done
to find cures for diseases, but that

an exciting quote that raises many questions in the reader s mind and gives a
glimpse of what type of essence the book brings. Rebecca is an amusing novel, that
follows the journey of a young womanwho marries a fascinating widow, only to find

Some readers find this book to be interesting and enjoy reading it, but at the same
time end up hating the characters throughout the entire book. Maxim De Winters
and the narrator are characters that could easily frustrate the readers because of
their actions and decisions. Something that readers like about this book is Daphne
Du Maurier s way of introducing the mystery. She introduces the mystery at the
beginning, which gives readers the chance of getting to know what to expect.
Some readers also like the concept of Manderly. Readers like how this adds to the
historical and creepy sensation factor of this book. This is a really exciting book
that everyone should read and it has an amazing storyline with strange twists and
turns. This book is mainly targeted towards people who really like mysteries and
solving them by using clues and little pieces from the story rather than just being
told the conclusion. Most readers would rate this book a four out of five stars
because it is very gripping and fits the true definition of a page turner. However, the
characters are not very lovable and seem foolish in some sense. Overall, Rebecca is a
great classic, which everyone should

I have been learning about the art since I was young. It was 4 years ago that I

drawing first when we begin to learn about the art. Such as Rendering, sketches, and

First of all, the method of drawing portraits is what I learned the most in Drawing

Tracking and Positioning of Mobile Systems in...
ABSTRACT
Mobile positioning technology has become an important area of research, for
emergency as well as for commercial services. Mobile positioning in cellular networks
will provide several services such as, locating stolen mobiles, emergency calls,
different billing tariffs depending on where the call is originated, and methods to
predict the user movement inside a region. The evolution to location dependent
services and applications in wireless systems continues to require the development of
more accurate and reliable mobile positioning technologies. The major challenge to
accurate location estimation is in creating techniques that yield acceptable

2.1 ARCHITECTURE OF A GEOLOCATIONSYSTEM
An example of geolocation system architecture [KOS00] is shown in Figure. As
we said earlier, in order to fix a call the subscriber we are calling must be located
accurately. A geolocation service provider provides location information and
location aware services to subscribers. Upon a request from a subscriber for
location information about an MS, the service provider will contact a location
control center querying it for the coordinates of the MS. This subscriber could be
a commercial subscriber desiring to track a mobile device or a PSAP trying to
answer an E 911 call. The location control center will gather information required
to compute the MS s location. This information could be parameters such as
received signal strength, BTS ID, TOA of signals, and so on that we discuss later.
Depending on past information about the MS, a set of BS s could be used to page
the MS, and directly or indirectly obtain the location parameters. These are
sometimes called Geolocation base stations (GBSs). Once this information is
collected, the location control center can determine the location of the mobile with
certain accuracy and convey this information to the service provider. The service
provider will then use this information to visually display the MS s location to the
subscriber. Sometimes the subscriber could be the MS itself, in which case the
messaging and
Examples Of Greediness In The Book Of Proverbs
Greediness
In the book of proverbs we are given advice to help us in our daily lives. An
important theme in proverbs is greediness. Greediness in this generation is very
common especially in adolescents. Most teenagers these days are more concerned
about what s in the media and what the new trend is. For example the hover boards,
phone accessories, jewelry, lipsticks, makeup, etc. In our generation everyone thinks
that if you have the latest gadget or trend you are popular, but that is where everyone
misses the point. In reality none of these things matter, what really matters is your
character, morality, etc. It is more important to please Godthan your friends. In an

All a person should want and need is good character, morality, and a strong

that when I let myself in the gossip and all the middle school drama I ended up

A New Type of Film Essay
A New Type of Film
Every day we are one step closer to filmmaking being as easy as taking out the brush

films have been the latest in a string of inventions, to help make the film industry
better. Films have become an important part of our culutre since they started being

be nothing compared with other technology, it does seem that this technology will

The 1970 s gave birth to the summer blockbuster films that appealed to the young,
mass audiences. Movies such as Jaws and Star Wars in 1975 and 1977
respectively, started the blockbuster trend. Begin with lots of action, great music,
and a ton of special effects, and you have a hit movie. Audiences were amazed at
the effects in George Lucas Star Wars and although the film looks old fashioned by
today s standards, seeing life like foreign creatures and flying ships was exciting
stuff (Howell, 2001).
The 1980 s saw cable television, direct broadcast satellite and videocassettes all
offering new ways to see films. Digital sound was introduced into theatres to draw
the audiences once again. Now, special effects have reached a whole new level. If
you ve been to the movies lately, you have probably noticed that many movies rely
heavily on computer generated images (Howell, 2001). Films such as Shrek and
Final Fantasy are made from all computer generated images. Sometimes it is difficult
to tell whether characters are animated or real. Final Fantasy contains some of the
most lifelike images ever seen in film. The computer program known as HyperReal
captures the tiniest human characteristics such as hair follices and skin tone (Howell,
2001). Computer generated images have added also to the effects in some films.

Proactive And Begin With The End Of Mind By Stephen
R....
Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind
Stephen R. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new
habits, and he invites his readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves.
I like that he writes, be patient with ourselves, because we are people that are not
perfect and we cannot achieve that perfection in ourselves. The first two habits are,
Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both of these habits are about moving
from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our choices or mastering
your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can choose.
Proactive
When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may
come up so that I may be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in
imaging all the things that can go wrong and dreaming up ways to help. This is
natural for me to meditate this way. However, this kind of proactive can create
worry and keep me up late over visualizing. I prefer praying and sitting with Jesus,
because it is impossible to come up with everything alone in my own head and this
causes too much work. I believe in working with a team and what comes to each of
us in a situation is valuable and ideas that could only come from someone who
ruminates different that I do. Overly proactive people sometimes can be
manipulative, because they have already worked through everything in their head and

* These microorganisms help in extracting calories from polysaccharides in our

fat and microbial activity. * It is thought that the microbes regulate the expression
of the gut protein fasting induced adipocyte protein (FIAF). This protein is an
inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase (LPL). * If the microbes suppress FIAF, then the

Obesity may be linked to differences in the microbial makeup of each individual.
Individuals prone to obesity may possess microbes that are more efficient at

Questions addressed by the experiment:
* How does the structure of the gut microbial community differ between individuals?
* Does being a member of the same family affect the microbial community? * Does
obesity affect the community structure? If so, at what taxonomic level does this

deceased. King Arthurwas real because there many people recall King Arthur or
who have known personal stories of him, his family, and the wars he so bravely

there. Historians have found that Croatia was most likely the burial place of King

explains that King Arthur was real, even if he was not the angel everyone thought

not true. He was most likely a military leader who did a fantastic job, so people

the celebrity tabloid press is that the business press can have a much greater impact on
who they are writing about, and the organizations that are the subject matter will
ensure at all costs that it is to the subject organization s benefit. Again, everything is
based on some truth, but the truth to look for that can be learned is not what is
written on the page, but what is left out of the articles.
How do we take on the business press from an OB point of view? Everyone needs
to simply put on your investigator hat, ask questions, analyze the situation, and
consider the source! (Robbins and Judge, 2011). If we lower our guard and believe
every scrap of information that floats by us on the news or in written publications

A Narrative On The Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs.
Mary...
In my paper, I will be writing about the historical context of Mary Rowlandson s, A
Narrative on the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. I am going
to look at the entire historical background of Rowlandson s narrative. The way I
am going to explore this is how the readers back then would have interpreted
Roland s reference to Biblical verses, and her questioning of God s role during her
captivity. I plan on using at least 2 sources for this assignment. Mary White
Rowlandson was a colonial woman in America who was captured during the King
Philip s War by the Native Americans. While she was captured, she was held for
eleven weeks, and then after she was released, she wrote A Narrative of the Captivity
and restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, which is also known as The Sovereignty
and Goodness of God. During these weeks, she experienced physical abuse,
starvation, and saw many friends, and her youngest daughter Sarah killed. This
story is considered to be one of America s first bestsellers when it was first publish
in 1682. Mary was born in 1637, in England and moved to present day New England
when she was a child. Growing up her father helped found the town of Lancaster, and
was one of the wealthiest men there. In 1656 at the age of 19, Mary married
Reverend Joseph Rowlandson. Together, the couple has four children, three of which
survived infancy. When the war broke out between the Native Americans and the
English settler, Mary and her kids were captured.

harmful and even deadly to suspects, supporters say that there are built in precautions
to prevent this, such as the Taser having a data port to record each time the Taser is
used (Kershaw). Officer Burns of the Seattle police department stated that there had
been numerous instances in Seattle, where officers had used the Taser instead of

Nowadays, whether women or men turn to exercise more. And a choice of exercise

City of Thieves by David Bienoff
City of Thieves starts off with Lev Beniov sitting atop his roof, on a firefighting
detail, under the German siege of Leningrad in Kirov, Russia. As he sits on top of
his building s roof with his friends Vera Osiponva, and the Antokolsky twins they
listen to anti aircraft fire, and they see a paratrooper falling to the ground. The
group hops the Kirov gate, and runs towards the paratrooper s landing sight,
realizing he is drifting to the ground dead. They began looting his body, and as Lev
got a German knife from the man, the GAZ turned on Voinova Street, and they had
to run. While running back to Kirov, Vera slipped, and Lev had to go and get her.
As he helped her over the fence, the GAZ grabbed him. Since it was after curfew,
he believed execution was inevitable. He was taken to Piter s prison called the
Crosses with no light or sound. Soon, a Russian officer named Kolya was thrown
in the cell with him. In the morning, the two prisoners were taken to a mansion
with NKVD officers in it. The Colonel had a mission for the prisoners. He took
their ration cards, and told Kolya and Lev they had until Thursday to get one
dozen eggs. On that Saturday morning, Kolya and Lev had left their lives on the
line for a dozen eggs. The middle of this novel begins when Kolya tells Lev that
they should try looking in the Haymarket for any eggs. They searched through the
Haymarket, and they find nothing. As they reach the end of their search, a boy tells
them of a man who keeps a coop of
Centrally Planned Economy Essay
Discuss the extent to which a country moving from a centrally planned economy to a
more market driven economy is in the interest of both consumers and producers .
A transitional economy is an economy which has previously had a centrally planned
economic system of resource allocation and is now allowing market forces, such as
demand, supply, price and free enterprise to operate in at least parts of the economy.
A centrally planned economy, that is also called command economy, is an economic
system in where the country s government operates production facilities. Free market
economy is an economic system where prices and wages are set by unrestricted
competition between businesses, without government regulation or fear of
monopolies. Countries like: Poland, Vietnam, Albania, Czech Republic, China and
most of CIS countries that used to be a part of communism area can be taken as an
example of countries that have moved from centrally planned economy to a more
market driven economy.
This essay is going to focus mainly on China, where both consumers and producers
gain some benefits from a transitional economy. China s transition from central
planning has assumed a trajectory quite different from that of Eastern Europe and
the Soviet Union. The idea of this transition is that prices will regulate themselves.
Supply and demand will reach the point of equilibrium where the most money will
be made. However, what is good for businesses not always good for customers. The

Wow! How the Personal Computer has Changed the World
Computers have been an indispensable aspect of life for what seems forever. But,
this was not always the case. All of the things that seem like they are natural
components to a computers interface like a mouse, keyboard, and the internet were
just toys for tinkering about 30 years ago. The man who made the first computer
controlled it with just a series of switches and displayed data on a few labeled LED
lights. Since the invention of the electronic computer inventors have constantly been
pushing forwards on every front making them faster, smaller, and less expensive. But,
more importantly then how we have changed computers is how computers have
changed us. Computers have changed almost every aspect of life as we know it

had grown by eighteen thousand units. The 1970 s were the years when the
computer really took off and reached the basic model that people know today. The
microprocessor replaced the microchip. The microprocessor had ten times the
power of a microchip but it was about a tenth of the price. Computers were still only
used by hobbyists but they becoming easier to use by the month. The two biggest
event for the personal computers would happen in the last five years of the decade.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac would start Apple Computers and create the first
computer that anyone could use, the Apple II. In 1978 the college dropout student
Bill Gates would create the company which in only thirty years would become the
company to run over ninety percent of all computers in the world, Microsoft. The
personal computer took the final steps to become what is today during the late 1980
s and early 90 s. During the 80 s computer advances were accelerating by leaps and
bounds in all different directions becoming smaller, faster, and lighter. The co
founder of Intel noticed a trend in how these evolutions took place. His name was
Gordon Moore and his principal stays true to this day. He noticed that the number of
transistors per square inch of circuits doubled every year since the invention. At the
point of the 1980 s it had slowed down to a little under eighteen months for the
amount of transistors to double but still the principal idea held true. The other major

Compare And Contrast Sammy And Montresor
What can a character that lived in 1700s Italy have in common with a teenager in
the 1960s? Though it may seem impossible Edgar Allan Poe s character Montresor
in The Cask of Amontillado shares similar characteristics to John Updike s A P
teenage Sammy. Both of these characters share sarcastic tendencies and a need to
make a name of himself. Though, each man differs in the way he goes about making
that name. While Montresor decides murder is the way, Sammy quits his job to be
noticed. One way that Montresor and Sammy are similar is that they are both
extremely sarcastic. While Montresor s sarcasmtends to be on the ironic side and
Sammy s is making fun of the customers it is very apparent that they think they are
better. Montresor clearly believes that he is better than Fortunato and deserves a
better life than he. He points out that Fortunato is wearing a fools hat which
merrily jingles as Fortunato is lead to his death. This fools cap seems to be fitting
as Fortunato is represented as being a fool. Montresor says that he was a sham in
all other subjects except in the matter of old wines he was sincere (Poe 1341).
Fortunato also never seems to notice that Montresor was angry with him and
willingly walked into his own death trap for a taste of rare wine. Montresor s irony
shows more and more as they go deeper into the catacombs. While walking Fortunato
dissolves into a fit of coughing and protests turning around saying I shall not die of a
cough. True true, I

Chinese Exclusion Act Of 1882
The 1848 Gold Rush fueled American prosperity in California, causing the
impoverished Chinese to seek employment opportunities in the United States.
Americans, however, did not welcome them. During the Panic of 1873, after the Gold
Rush ended, competition for jobs became fierce. The jobs were mostly given to
Americans. Out of desperation, the Chinese workers agreed to work for less salary
than their American counterparts. Consequently, union workers rose up for their
rightful jobs. With pressure from unions and anti Chinese organizations, Congress
passed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which banned Chinese immigrants from
entering the country for decades. The Act stated that any Chinese immigrant found
unlawfully in the country... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prospect of forging a new path and life in America outweighed the small price of
the tax. Immigrants coming to Canada could remain there without paying the head
tax if they left within ninety days. While the Act was enforced, the number of
Chinese immigrants entering Canada and later into the United States increased. To the
south, the Mexican border was also penetrable. The Mexican border was too long,
and with the absence of large towns, even the newly created China Division in the
Immigrations Service was unable to patrol the area. Either the Chinese disguised
themselves as Mexicans to cross the border, or they saved up money in Mexico and
later smuggled their way into the United States. The Chinese Six Companies (the
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of San Francisco) was instrumental in
helping to set up a network of trade for Chinese Immigrants to gain transportation and
get across the borders. In total, about 17,000 Chinese immigrants entered the United
States through Canada and Mexico from 1882 to 1920. Chinese immigrants entered
the country from Seattle, Buffalo, San Diego, San Antonio, and El Paso, as well as
other openings along the borders of the United States. The government simply could
not protect their borders from crafty immigrants. Secretary of Labor, James David,
acknowledged this point when he said, If we had the whole army guarding the
Mexico and Canadian waterfront, we could not stop this invasion by infiltration. The
Computer Resource Using Virtualization Technology
Among these SPE process, we focus on load generating of performance testing. There
are many load generating tools like Load Runner [13] and Silk Performer [14].
However, tools cannot cover every testing scenario. In a server/client environment,
client sends information to server generally. However, server may send information
to client. Existing tools cannot support that scenario. If a tool does not understand
communication protocol, it cannot generate load and if DUT[2] uses new technique
that tool does not support, it cannot
generate load. In those situations, we cannot use existing load generating tool and we
may have to use many real computers and lot of people are required to operate
software on those computers which is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Architecture of the tool
The overall architecture of the tool is presented in Figure 1. Virtual computers are
generated from real server. The number of virtual computers generated from a real
server depends on the scenario under which the DUT[2] is to be analyzed. Each
Virtual Computer has a different IP Address. Thus, each virtual computer acts as an
individual client. The user (tester) just interacts with the physical computer and
executes the python scripts present. These scripts activate the virtual computers
which interact with the DUT[2] and generate traffic depending on the profile which
the user selects before the test begins.
Virtualization is a technique that abstracts computing resource. It enables the users
to create a simulated environment and use the resources effectively. Virtualization
is divided into several categories as purpose such as server virtualization, network
virtualization, desktop virtualization, application virtualization and so on [15]. In
this paper, we use desktop virtualization technique to perform software performance
test. There are a lot of desktop virtualization products such as VMWARE [16],
Virtual PC [17], Parallels [18], Virtual Box [19] and so on. We selected VMWARE
because it is the most frequently used product and it uses computing resource
efficiently. It enables the users to use all the CPU cores effectively. It also has high

  • 2. The World War II By Kenneth D. Rose In the decades since World War II, there have been many attempts to glorify this generation through the media. Myth and the Greatest Generation: A Social History of Americans in World War II by Kenneth D. Rose, attempts to pare back the delusions of grandeur that often characterize histories of the World War II generation to show society as it was rather than how we have come to perceive it. Rose claims that often times when commentators focus on wars, they choose stories that are meant to make the population feel good as opposed to showing the realities. As a result, in retrospect wars seem to generate heightened patriotism and national unity (1). In this book, Rose hopes to give true honor to the Americans of this generation, not by glorifying their contributions, but by presenting a picture more in line with the historical record, hoping that in doing so his work will deliver a more accurate portrayal of Americans at war (3). Rose chooses not to rely heavily on secondary source material, but rather to highlight the first hand accounts of individuals who experienced the war. He does so in order to give them proper credit but also to show that the so called Greatest Generation was not without flaws, and was indeed an ordinary generation that lived through traumatic events that tested their character (7). Rose divides the book into four parts, focusing first on Americans Abroad. He looks at the accounts of not only the soldiers themselves, but also the war correspondents

This visit is set of a dark and filthy cave referred to as the heath. The failed assassinating of Fleance and Macduff rude disregard for Macbeths banquet foreshadows Macbeth actions at this point in the play. Macbethfeels insecure with regards to prolonging his kingship if Fleance, Banquos heir still lives. His fear is a result of a prophecy by the witches upon Banquo s life, before he was brutally assassinated by murders hired by Macbeth. The witches are an emblem of his state of mind and a test of his human agency. • 4. The Chemistry Of Organic Contaminants Over the past ten years, the Institute of Gas Technology, now Gas Technology Institute (GTI), USA and others have conducted research on the bioremediation of organic contaminants in soil. Most of this work has been associated with remediation of former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites, soils from industrial areas and oil production areas have also been studied. The results have shown that: (1) organic contaminants are biodegraded by indigenous soil microorganisms to a concentration that no longer decreases, or that decreases very slowly, with continued treatment; (2) reductions below this concentration are limited by the availability of the contaminants to the microorganisms; and (3) the residual contaminants that remain after biological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bacterial enzymes will catalyze the insertion of oxygen into the hydrocarbon so that the molecule can subsequently be consumed by cellular metabolism. Because of this oxygen is one of the most important requirements for the biodegradation of oil. Table 1 shows the list of some of the microorganisms which are involved in the bioremediation of oil contamination. Microbial Seeding Oil degrading microorganisms seem to be ubiquitous, with their number typically limited by the hydrocarbon supply (Namazi et al., 2008). Another approach is to add exogenous microorganisms with known degradative activities, either natural isolates or engineered (Narasimhan et al., 1983). Seeding involves the introduction of allochthonous microorganisms into the natural environment for the purpose of increasing the rate or extent, or both of biodegradation of pollutants. The rationale for this approach is that the autochthonous microorganisms may not be capable of degrading the wide range of potential substrates present in complex mixtures such as petroleum (Raghavan, 1998). Terrestrial ecosystems differ from aquatic ecosystems in that soils contain higher concentrations of organic and inorganic matter and generally, large number of microorganisms and are more variable in terms of physical and chemical conditions (Bossert et al., 1984). The presence of indigenous microorganisms which are highly adapted to a particular environment would negatively influence the
  • 5. Temperature Of A Frog Lab Report Effects of Temperature on a Frog INTRODUCTION: Amphibians are cold blooded animals that adapt to the surrounding temperatures. Frogs are one kind of amphibian. Frogs are cold blooded. Cold blooded animals are more active in warmer temperatures and stagnant when it is cold. A frogs system is always moving, but depending on the temperature it is exposed to, its breaths aren t always clearly visible or at a constant rate. A frog s skin is able to take in oxygen in exchange for carbon dioxide, so all of a frog s breathing isn t done through its lungs. Water is a compound made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Molecules in warmer water move around at a faster speed than molecules in colder water. The problem to be solved is what the effect of different water temperatures have on a frog s breathing rate. HYPOTHESIS: If a frog is put in 30в„ѓ water, then the frog will have a higher breathing rate than the control frog. MATERIALS: 400 mL Beaker (2)Frog PencilWatch/Clock IceWaterThermometer Ice Glass DishLab paperRuler EXPERIMENTAL PLAN:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data from the chart and graph show a drop in the number of breaths when the temperature drops. The frog had an average breathing rate of 104 breaths per minute when it was put in the highest temperature tested (30в„ѓ). Once the frog was placed in 10в„ѓ, it had an average breathing rate of zero breaths per minute. The frog took more breaths in the warm water. Since the frog is cold blooded, its body temperature changes depending on the environment. Because molecules move quickly in warmer water, the frog s respiratory system circulates faster. Molecules moving slower in colder water do not allow the frog to take in as much oxygen as often. Therefore, a warmer temperature makes a frog s breathing rate per minute increase while a colder temperature makes it

The Digital Era And Emergence Of Mobile Apps Digital magazines have increasingly captured the attention of the media industry due to their ability to attract readers through interactive content, without involving high costs in production and distribution as traditional magazines. In todays world, a consumer wants everything to be readily available and user friendly. In order to keep up with technology, most magazine publishers have adapted the digitalization of magazines into creating applications for arguably, devices that no reader can live without, the mobile phone or tablet. Changes in tradition from paperback to digital affect important factors such as customer loyalty, efficiency of readers, and changes in revenues for magazines. Although there have been a large number of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the past decade, a typical publishing model would ve included a print edition along with a website supported by social media, however due to the ever growing mobile phones and tablet business, publishers needed to adapt to the change in demand by adding more apps and digital editions with its print versions. Hogarth (2014) suggests that due to the rise of digital magazines, it is likely that by 2016, a high percentage of publications will be in digital or online formats only. Business users are particularly intrigued with the prospect of having mobile serve as another revenue generating channel. A survey undertaken by Opinion Matters, sponsored by OutSystems, shows that more than 200 UK and US respondents were asked about the primary goal of their new mobile app initiatives, and 64% said their main aim was to generate revenue. Positioning itself as between a smart phone and a PC, but with the attributes of both, Apple have sought to develop a new market niche with the iPad for tablet PC devices, and early signs are that market expectations are being
  • 7. The Effects Of Fungal Diseases diseases in addition to physiological disorder. However, fungal diseases, especially rust is considered one of the major destructive diseases affecting the crop yield (Hagedron, 1984 and Kraft, and Pfleger, 2001), especially in the north and middle parts of the Delta in Egypt and several countries in the world (Abada et al., 1997; Gupta and Shayam, 1998 and Parilli et al., 2015). The fungus Uromyces pisi is a heteroecious rust pathogen, completing its life cycle on two host plant species. The sexual stages are completed on Euphorbia cyparissias (cypress spurge), while the asexual lifecycle stages are completed on leguminous crop hosts such as Lathyrus, Orobus, Pisum and Vicia spp. E. cyparissias is an erect, branching, rhizomatous ... The nectar contains fungal gametes (spermatia) that are transferred by nectar feeding insects (including bees and ants) from one fungal mating type to another. Once fertilization has occurred, aeciospores are released which infect leguminous host plants including field peas. Managing plant diseases with fungicides sometimes gives good results. However, improper use of fungicides leads mostly to environmental pollution, disasters throughout the world and the phenomena of resistance to the causal pathogens (Brewer and Larkin, 2005). Therefore, to overcome these difficulties, it is urgent to apply alternative safe efficient methods against such disease or at least rationalization their application. Biological control is considered an important approach of agricultural biotechnology in recent years for controlling many fungal plant pathogens. Both Bacillus and Trichoderma spp. are the most promising and effective bioagents against various plant pathogenic fungi (Deshmukh et al., 2010; Barakat et al., 2014 and Ragab et al., 2015). Trichoderma as antagonist is much more complex, that is nutrient competition, hyperparasitism, antibiosis, space and cell wall degrading enzymes (Abd El Khair et al., 2010 and Junid et al., 2013). It was also found that there is a large variety of volatile secondary metabolites produced by Trichoderma spp. such as ethylene, carbon dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, aldehydes and ketones which play an important role in controlling many plant

The Rise of Environmentalism in the United States Essay The Rise of Environmentalism in the United States Eden; it is a word that, for most, inspires thoughts of lush green trees, untarnished fruit, soft green grass, perfect blue skies, and harmony within nature. According to Judeo Christian teachings, this is similar to the state in which the world began. It was an environment unspoiled by humans, unblemished by their pollution. Such a pristine utopia is often hard for a person to imagine today amongst the industrial smokestacks and their billowing gray clouds, between the rancid landfill mounds, and surrounded by stagnant pools of oil slicked water. However, until around 1920 nature was little more than the supplier of life sustaining necessities3. From nature Americans obtained wood for their homes, fuel for their fires, and plants and game for their meals. At this time the concern for nature was not for it s innate beauty or pure state, but rather for it s productivity. If nature was providing ample food and shelter is was serving its necessitated purpose. As the American economy grew in the 1920 s so too did peoples personal finances. With a booming economy people had larger spending, or discretionary funds. This brought upon the shift from a market of necessities to a market of convenience goods. At this point there is still very little mention of the environment. One could argue that the Soil Conservation Act of 1933 showed concern for the environment, but the real motive behind the Act was a concern for crop productivity. With a passing of the Soil Conservation and the similar Taylor Grazing Act, the idea of natural resources is popularized. The idea of natural resources, however, still portrays the idea that people saw nature as a service to humans. It isn t until the F. D. Roosevelt administration that nature is preserved simply for being natural. The era of FDR was one of secure economy and growing incomes. With the popularization of the automobile, people began urbanizing around cities and living further from their work places, many gained leisure and vacation time, and for the first time

Kent State University Shooting Essay The Boston Massacre and the killings that took place at Kent State University occured 200 year apart from each other, but there is a striking resemblance between the two events. It is evident that history repeats itself. Both of the events were brought on by tensions between the powers that be and the people, became so violent that officials were forced to take charge, and after tragedy occurred, no one suffered any consequences. The Boston Massacre of 1770 was fated to happen once Parliament passed the Townshend Actsof 1767 on the American colonies. These acts placed taxes on goods such as glass, tea, and paper. When these taxes reached throughout the colonies, colonists began to boycott British items, and some of them rioted. Listening is more than just hearing voices and noise, listening means concentrating, giving attention to someone talking, be open minded, attending in the discussion (Schilling, par.3), and understanding what the person is actually interpreting, using body expression and words (Giang, par.1). These skills are required for success and a goodlife. They give the solution of conflicts and difficulties, develop correctness, guarantee comprehension and create reliable relationships (Schilling, par.1). During the late 1990 s and early 2000 s, the internet was not very popular in China and people were ignorant to its proper use. Knowing this, Jack Ma decided to start this internet user friendly company that would allow his clients to perform business transactions with other businesses/suppliers in China. He first started the company on a local level and as Alibaba has seen success it has been expanding to the global market. Some of the factors that contributed to the success of Alibaba in the Chinese e commerce industry were: First mover advantage: Alibaba has a first mover advantage that makes it very hard for competitors to chip away at their lead in the market. (Dick Wei, Analyst, J.P. Morgan Securities Inc.,2 in 2007). Alibaba started its operations when e commerce in China was in its infancy stage. Considering the potential of the budding e commerce market, Alibaba started with operations that concentrated on providing B2B services to SMEs that were aspiring to go global. It put an innovative business model in place where customers could try out its services without any cost. Over time, it was able to generate revenue from alternative streams and increase revenue as

Act three of A Midsummer Night s Dream begins with the characters Quince, Bottom, Snout, Starveling, and Flute, previously introduced in an earlier act, discussing a prologue to their play. They were worried that ladies in the audience would find the lion too frightening, and would have the actors punished, so they wrote a prologue explaining the falsity of the lion. They then discuss adding a character of a wall to the play. I personally found this scene hilarious, it adds a perfect amount of comic relief to the story, and adds more character to the commoners putting on the play. It was assuredly the scene that most stuck out, or caught my eye. Robin then walks into the commoners practicing. He watches them practice, and seemingly inexplicably, turns Bottom s head into an ass s head. Robin s dialogue seemed to indicate that he was bored, that may be the reason of the inexplicable head swapping. When Titania wakes up, the first thing she sees is Bottom, with an ass s head, she immediately falls in love due to the flower juice earlier. Oberon, of course, is very pleased with how his plan has turned out. Demetrius and Hermia argue in the forest over finding Lysander, Hermia eventually exits in a rage. They have a chance of becoming like any one of us, and that is taken away from them when they are experimented on. A human embryois a human being in the embryonic stage, just as an infant is a human being in the infant stage (Hug 2). They are still alive and have souls just like the rest of us. Embryos are what we all have started off as, and we were given a chance to live. We can t pinpoint when a human life begins and so we should give a moral status to all humans no matter what stage of life they are in. Not only are we snatching away the moral status of these embryos, but we are doing so for someone else s benefit. The experiments of stem cell research are done on dead fetuses, so we are basically swapping one death for another. The research that is conducted on these dead fetuses is to help find cures for people who are dying with diseases. The research conducted is giving up one live to help another person. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new habits, and he invites his readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves. I like that he writes, be patient with ourselves, because we are people that are not perfect and we cannot achieve that perfection in ourselves. The first two habits are, Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both of these habits are about moving from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our choices or mastering your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can choose. Proactive When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may come up so that I may be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in imaging all the things that can go wrong and dreaming up ways to help. This is natural for me to meditate this way. However, this kind of proactive can create worry and keep me up late over visualizing. How do we take on the business press from an OB point of view? Everyone needs to simply put on your investigator hat, ask questions, analyze the situation, and consider the source! (Robbins and Judge, 2011). If we lower our guard and believe every scrap of information that floats by us on the news or in written publications without question, then we might as well just give up and get a job in the service industry like 80% of the current US population according to Robbins and Judge; service jobs generally require little or no thought at an individual level aside from understanding company objectives and following pre lain guidelines for success within the organization. Regardless of current business media trend reporting on chaos in the cubicles or fight clubs breaking out in the factories, sensible businesses leaders must sift through the muck and still make important decisions regarding their company security and employee safety. Regardless of whether this case incident proves that recession causes employee unrest, the reality is
  • 35. A Narrative On The Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs. Mary... In my paper, I will be writing about the historical context of Mary Rowlandson s, A Narrative on the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. I am going to look at the entire historical background of Rowlandson s narrative. The way I am going to explore this is how the readers back then would have interpreted Roland s reference to Biblical verses, and her questioning of God s role during her captivity. I plan on using at least 2 sources for this assignment. Mary White Rowlandson was a colonial woman in America who was captured during the King Philip s War by the Native Americans. While she was captured, she was held for eleven weeks, and then after she was released, she wrote A Narrative of the Captivity and restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, which is also known as The Sovereignty and Goodness of God. During these weeks, she experienced physical abuse, starvation, and saw many friends, and her youngest daughter Sarah killed. This story is considered to be one of America s first bestsellers when it was first publish in 1682. Mary was born in 1637, in England and moved to present day New England when she was a child. Growing up her father helped found the town of Lancaster, and was one of the wealthiest men there. In 1656 at the age of 19, Mary married Reverend Joseph Rowlandson. Together, the couple has four children, three of which survived infancy. When the war broke out between the Native Americans and the English settler, Mary and her kids were captured.

Non lethal weapons are definitely useful in law enforcement and help keep situations under control, except for in the most extreme circumstances. The electrical pulses travel from the gun through two 21 foot long wires that look like a stretched out slinky tipped with barbed probes. If the probes pierce skin or a layer of clothing two inches thick or less, the jolt contracts the muscles and throws the suspect off balance. It makes the suspect unable to move, and gives the police a full five seconds with every tasing to handcuff the suspect (Kershaw). While many believe that the risk of police overuse of the Taser could be harmful and even deadly to suspects, supporters say that there are built in precautions to prevent this, such as the Taser having a data port to record each time the Taser is used (Kershaw). Officer Burns of the Seattle police department stated that there had been numerous instances in Seattle, where officers had used the Taser instead of fists, nightsticks, guns or pepper spray, which can have much longer effects than Taser shocks, and that suspects had recovered immediately

Centrally Planned Economy Essay Discuss the extent to which a country moving from a centrally planned economy to a more market driven economy is in the interest of both consumers and producers . A transitional economy is an economy which has previously had a centrally planned economic system of resource allocation and is now allowing market forces, such as demand, supply, price and free enterprise to operate in at least parts of the economy. A centrally planned economy, that is also called command economy, is an economic system in where the country s government operates production facilities. Free market economy is an economic system where prices and wages are set by unrestricted competition between businesses, without government regulation or fear of monopolies. Countries like: Poland, Vietnam, Albania, Czech Republic, China and most of CIS countries that used to be a part of communism area can be taken as an example of countries that have moved from centrally planned economy to a more market driven economy. This essay is going to focus mainly on China, where both consumers and producers gain some benefits from a transitional economy. China s transition from central planning has assumed a trajectory quite different from that of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The idea of this transition is that prices will regulate themselves. Supply and demand will reach the point of equilibrium where the most money will be made. However, what is good for businesses not always good for customers. The main

All of the things that seem like they are natural components to a computers interface like a mouse, keyboard, and the internet were just toys for tinkering about 30 years ago. The man who made the first computer controlled it with just a series of switches and displayed data on a few labeled LED lights. The microprocessor replaced the microchip. The microprocessor had ten times the power of a microchip but it was about a tenth of the price. Computers were still only used by hobbyists but they becoming easier to use by the month. The two biggest event for the personal computers would happen in the last five years of the decade. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac would start Apple Computers and create the first computer that anyone could use, the Apple II. In 1978 the college dropout student Bill Gates would create the company which in only thirty years would become the company to run over ninety percent of all computers in the world, Microsoft. The personal computer took the final steps to become what is today during the late 1980 s and early 90 s. During the 80 s computer advances were accelerating by leaps and bounds in all different directions becoming smaller, faster, and lighter. The co founder of Intel noticed a trend in how these evolutions took place. His name was Gordon Moore and his principal stays true to this day. He noticed that the number of transistors per square inch of circuits doubled every year since the invention. At the point of the 1980 s it had slowed down to a little under eighteen months for the amount of transistors to double but still the principal idea held true. The other major leap

Though it may seem impossible Edgar Allan Poe s character Montresor in The Cask of Amontillado shares similar characteristics to John Updike s A P teenage Sammy. Both of these characters share sarcastic tendencies and a need to make a name of himself. Though, each man differs in the way he goes about making that name. While Montresor decides murder is the way, Sammy quits his job to be noticed. One way that Montresor and Sammy are similar is that they are both extremely sarcastic. While Montresor s sarcasmtends to be on the ironic side and Sammy s is making fun of the customers it is very apparent that they think they are better. Montresor clearly believes that he is better than Fortunato and deserves a better life than he. He points out that Fortunato is wearing a fools hat which merrily jingles as Fortunato is lead to his death. This fools cap seems to be fitting as Fortunato is represented as being a fool. Montresor says that he was a sham in all other subjects except in the matter of old wines he was sincere (Poe 1341). Fortunato also never seems to notice that Montresor was angry with him and willingly walked into his own death trap for a taste of rare wine. Montresor s irony shows more and more as they go deeper into the catacombs. While walking Fortunato dissolves into a fit of coughing and protests turning around saying I shall not die of a cough. Americans, however, did not welcome them. During the Panic of 1873, after the Gold Rush ended, competition for jobs became fierce. The jobs were mostly given to Americans. Out of desperation, the Chinese workers agreed to work for less salary than their American counterparts. Consequently, union workers rose up for their rightful jobs. Immigrants coming to Canada could remain there without paying the head tax if they left within ninety days. While the Act was enforced, the number of Chinese immigrants entering Canada and later into the United States increased. To the south, the Mexican border was also penetrable. The Mexican border was too long, and with the absence of large towns, even the newly created China Division in the Immigrations Service was unable to patrol the area. Either the Chinese disguised themselves as Mexicans to cross the border, or they saved up money in Mexico and later smuggled their way into the United States. The Chinese Six Companies (the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of San Francisco) was instrumental in helping to set up a network of trade for Chinese Immigrants to gain transportation and get across the borders. In total, about 17,000 Chinese immigrants entered the United States through Canada and Mexico from 1882 to 1920. Chinese immigrants entered the country from Seattle, Buffalo, San Diego, San Antonio, and El Paso, as well as other openings along the borders of the United States. The government simply could not protect their borders from crafty immigrants. Secretary of Labor, James David, acknowledged this point when he said, If we had the whole army guarding the Mexico and Canadian waterfront, we could not stop this invasion by infiltration. The
