Gondia which comes under Vidarbha region which is known as capital of forest since
it was called as Berar region under the central provinces. While studying for the same I
found the literature gap on the gond tribes which were ruler in the early 18th century
and played an important role in the process of urbanisation by formulating the District
called Nagpur. Historically they are the residents of the Vidarbha and have fought for
the rights of peoples of Berar region in the early 18th century with british and Marathas.
And even though they have not been given concentration in the academic discourse and
government implementary programmes and therefore they are been denied with the
basic rights and forced them to migrate from their habitat to the cities where they could
not find sustainable livelihood which they continually get change according to season.
Gond are educationally still lack to achieve a full literacy rate. As per the 2001 census
the Literacy rate of the Gond in Maharashtra is about 62.5 per cent. But though their
participation in political and economic sphere is lack due to the hegemony of dominant
culture of politics. They have been excluded in the process of participation for their
development in the villages of Vidarbha, where very less research have been done and

Thyroidism Case Study Essay
During the review of this scenario it was concluded based on laboratory test that were ran
that the nurse was experiencing hyperthyroidism. The nurse came in due to abnormal
symptoms that she was experiencing, symptoms which are often associated with thyroid
problems. This lead to the healthcare providers running test to check her thyroid.
Hyperthyroidismis when a person s thyroid gland produces an excess amount of thyroid
hormonethan is necessary for the human s body. Since the hormone is so prevalent in
the body and is in control of the bodies energy, if there is a deficiency or surplus of
thyroid hormone it will vastly alter the way the body works. When checking for
hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism it is often know to run a serum T4 and serum T3
test. The T4 test is a test that is ran to check the amount of thyroxine that is present in
the person s blood. The T4 levels have a normal range of 4.6 to 12 ug/dL. The nurse
test results showed that her T4 was 15.6 ug/dL which is above the normal range and a
sign of hyperthyroidism. The next test ran was a T3 serum test, this test measures the
amount of triiodothyronine in the blood. The serum T3 levels have a normal range of 80

One cause is a condition called diffuse toxic goiter (graves disease), an autoimmune
disease where the body manipulates the thyroid gland into overproducing thyroid
hormones even if excess already exist. Individuals with Graves disease have slow growth
of the thyroid gland by the use of immunoglobulin to neutralize proteins such as, thyroid
peroxides, thyroglobulin and thyroid stimulating hormone receptor. Graves disease is the
first most common cause of hyperthyroidism (Parangi Phitayakorn, 2011). Another cause
is referred to as subacute thyroiditis. This occurs when an excess amount of thyroid
hormone is discharged because of an infection of the thyroid or certain medications being
consumed (Parangi Phitayakorn,
Native American Colonies Effects
How do you think the Native Americans were affected as colonies expanded into
different parts of the nowadays known United States? The Native Americans were very
much affected as colonies started to expand into the U.S. Many of the natives were
tortured, killed, imprisoned, and much more. This essay will provide many unique and
different times in history when Native Americans were being affected by expanding
colonies. Let s start off early with Christopher ColumbusOne of the first effects felt by
Native Americans happened in the late 1400s when Christopher Columbus and his
soldiers sailed to the Bahama Islands where him and his crew met the Arawak people.
They were very generous people, willing to trade anything they owned to the settlers.
Upon first meeting the Arawak people Columbus thought how he could use them to his
advantage: They would make fine servants... With fifty men we could subjugate them
and make them do whatever we want (Zinn 1). With this in mind, he brought few
prisoners back to Spain with him, claiming that there was gold and slaves on the
island, the King and Queen granted him over 1,200 men and seventeen ships to sail
back. This time Columbus couldn t find gold, but brought back 500 captives, although,
200 of them died on the voyage. After showing the King and Queen, he was sent back
again to find the gold and more slaves. Columbus being worried about finding gold he
said Indians who did not give gold to the Spaniards had their hands cut off and bled
Martin Luther King Jr Quote For Positive Change
Martin Luther King Junior: Examining a man of light Darkness cannot drive out
darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out Hate: only love can do that
(Brainy Quote). Martin Luther King Junior was a man of light along with love. This
allowed him to create a new path for the young blacks of America. Throughout his life
Martin Luther King was often confronted by discrimination around every corner
whether it was at school as a young child or as an adult trying to find a job or a decent
college that would accept him. He eventually discovered he could do something or at
the very least help those around him. This was a pivotal point in his life as it was a
deciding factor on the way he spent the rest of his life. He would either... Show more

He accomplished this by leading peaceful marches all over the country. Many of the
cities he visited were changed forever. One of the largest impacts he had was in
Albany. The center of civil unrest in the country at the time and King took it on.
There were thirty eight thousand whites and only eighteen thousand blacks. Many of
the blacks lived in poverty and were unable to get a good paying job most of them
worked as sanitation workers. King planed a peaceful march through Albany but was
convicted to forty five days in prison leading up to the march. While he was in jail
blacks gathered outside the jail to sing for him. He paid bail then but vowed to never
again pay unless everyone else was out of prison first. This proves that King was a
brave man that was compassionate beyond compare. Another of King s campaigns
towards erasing discrimination was in Washington. Here King started a movement to
allow blacks to vote. In Washington King addressed the nation for the first time. It
was at this point that King became a national figure. All of those who watched the
speech felt moved and understood King for who he really was a man who was trying to
fix a nation. In his first national speech King became a national figure and was asked
to go to every march or event all across America (Bishop 196 198). This sudden fame
was a shock to King suddenly he was respected and everyone listened
Supervalu Vs Frosted Flakes
The differences between the name brand cereal Frosted Flakes and the off brand
values, Malt O Meal and SuperValu is that the Frosted Flakes were actually healthier
and better for you than the other cereals. The three only had one thing in common and
it was 0g Trans. Fat per serving. While Frosted Flakes and Malt O Meal share 0 mg
Cholesterol per serving. Out of the three the SuperValu cereal was probably the worst for
you with 555g of Calories per serving, and 560mg of Sodium. If I had to chose one
cereal out of these three I would probably chose the name brand Frosted Flakes cereal
since it has 10g of Sugar, 150mg of Sodium, and only 110g of Calories per serving. In
order from best to worst it would probably be Frosted Flakes, Malt O Meal
Anthropogenic Effects Of Upwelling
Organisms have the ability to adapt to certain stresses called a stress response, however
the region in which they are able to cope with stress is only so big. Once once the
threshold is past the organism can no longer cope with the stress and it negatively affects
the organism. Anthropogenic induced climate change are adding many stress factors on
organism that they have to cope with at once. Upwelling occurs when winds from the
North come down, bringing up the nutrient rich waters up with them. This nutrient is
good for the area, however due to other anthropogenic causes this can be a recipe for
disaster.
The East Pacific Coast is an area that experiences upwelling. This area of upwelling is
special, because the Pacific is end of the converobelt of the Meridional cycle. This
means that this water is the most oxygen depleted and most Carbon rich in the ocean.
Increasing CO2 emissions finding their ways into the ocean, and increasing carbon in
the oceans leads to its acidification. Upwelling regions are naturally more acidic, do to

We can measure how certain variables like temperature, ph and oxygen levels affect on
biological processes such a growth rate, reproduction and mortality. The organism we
choose to study can be from different trophic levels to see how these changes affect the
ecosystem as a whole and the food web. We can take measurements of these factors
where they are high and see how they affect the organism. Additionally, we can test
these variables individually in close systems to see what type of effects it has. In a video
we watched in class we saw how rising pH could affect corals killing them off with coral
bleaching and if acidic enough the coral itself would erode away because it was under
the saturated state. Understanding these effects is essential to preserving our ocean and its
Typing On A Computer And My Ethnography
Some people are great at cooking or writing poetry. I am very good at typing on a
computer and a laptop. I became an expert at typing by practice. Typing on a keyboard
makes me feel successful in communicating and getting ideas out.
I discovered typing as a different way of talking . At the age of 6 or 7, I discovered typing
in either kindergarten or first grade. It was in a computer room and we played typing
games on the computer to practice typing. Throughout my education and out of the
classroom, I learned how to type very fast. I think the highest I can go is at least 70
words per minute. I feel like I was free to let my fingers to talk for me. I was doing daily
typing either on desktop or laptop to keep my typing consistency. When I
A Brief Note On The American Civil War
One consequence of the American Civil war is that it was the largest catastrophe in
American history. Approximately one in four soldiers that went to war never
returned home. There weren t any cemeteries, burial details or messengers of loss. The
army didn t have the mechanisms needed to handle the amount of deaths the nation
was gonna experience. It was the bloodiest conflict and there had been an
unprecedented violence of battles such as Gettysburg, Shiloh and Antietam. The Civil
war was America s costliest war, with 623,000 dead, with approximately 33,000 from
Pennsylvania. The wounded individuals were amputees that struggled to overcome the
perceptions of disabled as less than members of society. There was a lot of diseases
during the civil war. The worst out the bunch was by far Dysentery. It had gotten
around 45,00 deaths in the union army and 50,000 in the Confederate army.
Contaminated water had caused the disease. In those days, hygiene wasn t a big issue.
Another major killer was typhoid. This was also a result of contaminated water or
food. It had killed 30,000 confederate and 35,00 union troops. Another consequence
during the civil war was the economy. Of all the disadvantages the Confederacy
experienced during the Civil War, its lack of a sound currency was particularly
damaging. There was limited resources available with more than $1 million in hard
currency or specie which the confederacy relied mainly on for printed money. It went
down rapidly in
Psychology Assumptions
We all hold assumptions about the world and how it works. These assumptions frame
our understanding of God, ourselves, others, and life and how to be successful in life.
These assumptions affect our understanding and interpretation of facts and of events
that occur in our lives. As Aristotle said, It s not the facts that divide men, but the
interpretation of the facts (as cited in Hummel, 1986, p. 23). Our assumptions are
acquired, often unconsciously or uncritically, by our own experiences and by what we
have been taught about life by others. They become a lens by which we view reality.
Entwistle (2010) writes that, the world is seen through the lenses of our assumptions (p.
134). If the lens is distorted, our view of reality will be distorted.... Show more content on

The physical sciences have a more objective means of measuring and testing subjects.
What is the temperature of the sun? What is the value of the proton mass? What is the
structure of a DNA molecule? These all have physical proper ties that can be measured
and tested. Psychology is more subjective than the physical sciences and therefore
more open to interpretation. Myers (2014) understands psychology as a science that
seeks to answer such questions about us all how and why we think, feel, and act as
we do (p. 1). Questions such as, Who are we? What produces our thoughts? Our
feelings? Our actions? And how are we to understand and manage those around us?
(Myers, 2014, p. 2). Answers to questions like these are profoundly affected by our
presuppositions. For example, if I believe that people are inherently good and not
affected by sin, I m going to answer these questions a certain way. If I believe that
people are created in the image of God, but fallen and being redeemed, I m going to
answer them differently. How I respond to people and circumstances will also be
different. So examining and understanding my own presuppositions as well as those of
the theorists I am studying is important if I am going to be more objective and discover

The patient was last seen in the office in February. Please see that note for complete
details. She has several issues she would like to discuss today. She tells me that she has
really been under a lot of stress of late. She had been caring for her sister, who has uterine
cancer. In addition, her husband s brother recently died, and there have been issues
regarding a property they co owned. She sold her house in New York and is now
renting a house here in Portsmouth. She feels all that she has been doing is moving
and cleaning. She feels that she is a little bit settled, however and is hoping that she
can get back to her normal regimen. She has not been walking as much as typical, and
she would like to lose a couple of pounds and plans to get back into that, as well as her
physical therapy exercises that she has been doing for her neuropathy.
The patient has been diagnosed with bilateral peripheral neuropathy. She has been
seeing Kishori Somyreddy, MD. Dr. Somyreddy recommended physical therapy, which
she is not sure it helped with the neuropathy, but she does think it helps with her chronic
back pain and she is feeling better from that standpoint. She has not been able to stick
with the physical therapy exercises as much of late, but does plan on getting back to that
now that she is settled and feeling less stress with all that she needs to do.
Since the patient has a decided to
Evaluation Of The Development Of Children
Chapter One: Introduction Chapter 2: Literature Review Attachment is important to the
development of children in order for them to establish bonds and feel security with
primary caregivers. Children who are adopted or placed in substitute care often times
experience major breaks in caregiving. This results in children lacking the ability to feel
safe, loved, wanted and apart of another human being. This break in attachment
sometimes leaves the child reeling lost and anger with those providing for them. The
feeling of attachment, or lack of attachment, can determine and affect the future
outcomes of children as they grow in to adults.
Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) as stated is the American Psychiatric Association:
Diagnosis and Statistical Manual of mental disorders edition 5 states that there are two
types: inhibited and disinhibited type of attachment (Association, 2000). Inhibited type
are children who have multiple experiences with primary caregivers who don t provide
emotional support and comfort when needed. These children are always rejected, in
their opinion, and avoid any social contact with others. These types of children
withdrawal form their primary caregivers, avoid being comforted and self soothe. Social
settings can be awkward for these inhibited type of children and they respond with
aggression and vigilance (Wimmer, 2009). Children who have the disinhibited type have
many experiences with primary caregivers who are not responsive to their
E. E Cummings Essay
Edward Estlin Cummings was an unbelievable great American poet one of the most
well versed scholar in the subject of poetry. E. E. Cummings was excessively popular,
especially among younger readers of his work. He was known for being reckless in
thought when it came to his poetry, it was also said that he experimented radically with
his form of spelling, syntax, punctuation, and miss spelling. More than half of his poems
turn to the subjects of sex, love, and war, with such facile language leaving behind the
traditions that most poets followed. E. E. Cummingswas born on October 14, 1894 to
Edward Cummings and Rebecca Haswell Clarke, who were Unitarian. His father was a
professor at Harvard Universityand was later the nationally known minister of Old
South Church in Boston, Massachusetts. His mother loved to spend time with
Cummings and his sister Elizabeth. His mother and father knew about the creative
gifts Edward had with poetry, from an early age he would write a poem daily from the
ages of eight through twenty two. With writing a poem everyday Edward learned many
different self taught form of ways to write poems. At the age of twenty one he had
graduated from the University of Harvard and eventually went back for an advanced

In Order to Find Out How Things Really Are, One Must...
In order to find out how things really are, one must understand the filters through which
one perceives the world . Discuss and evaluate this claim.
For the only world man can truly know is the world created for him by his senses.
Lincoln Barnett
The term thing can be applied to an entity, an idea, or a quality perceived, known or
thought to have its own existence. Things are all the objects that our senses meet in
everyday life processes, emotions, everything that can not be referred to as a living
system. I see something, I feel something, I do something...we are surrounded by things.

Or, when someone s intuition tells him that something bad is going to happen he begins
to act very precautious and see a thread in everything, when in fact, reality is very
different. Intuition is, also, related with emotions. Emotions can distort reality. More
emotional people feel things with greater intensity. Some people cry at movies, some
don t. So is the movie sad or not?
What people believe soon becomes their reality. It is needles to mention all the different
beliefs and religions who preach their own picture of how things really are. Protestants
think that diseases are sent from God, and that any attempt to cure them will be
punished. The Aborigines think that if you paint your own picture, your soul will get
trapped in it. In the modern world diseases are being cured and pictures are being taken.
Still, these people stick to their beliefs, considering them as reality.
Experience is a great factor in determining reality. When one tribe from the Amazon
forest first saw a camera (or other technical object) they saw nothing, just an empty space.
It was until they touched the camera that their mind started to perceive it. Strange,
indeed. But this is true example of how people s mind organizes its own reality. Their
mind decided that the camera is too weird to interpret and edit it out. They had no
previous experience with a camera. Maybe the best example is the movie Vanilla sky ,
where the main character lives in a dream. There are a lot
The Financial Crisis Of 2008 And How It All Started As...
This paper is about the financial crisis in 2008 and how it all started as well as the
ways that banking has operated and is operating today. I have watched all of Chairman
Bernanke s college lecture videos and he has gone into many different aspects of
banking including how the Federal Reserve began, what lead to the recent financial
crisis, and what we are doing as a nation to see what we can do to help eliminate from
happening again. First, I will be summarizing Chairman Bernanke s four lectures he
did in 2012 at George Washington University. Chairman Bernanke s first lecture was
more focused on the history of central banking and how the Federal Reserve of the
United States of America began. What Bernanke talked about is how central banking
is essential to all modern nations that revolve around their own personal currency. An
example he gave is of course our Federal Reserve in America and the EU Federal Bank
that revolves around the euro. He also delved into the policy tools that the Federal
Reserve is responsible for. Some of these tools are monetary policy. This policy is
important for maintaining macroeconomic stability by adjusting interest rates to help
influence spending, production, employment, and inflation. Another one of the tools that
the central banks are responsible for is the provision of liquidity which deals in the
financial crises and the handing out of short term loans to help ease financial panics.
This tool is also the lender of last resort which

The 5 Giant Evils Of William Beveridge s Five Giant Evils
William Beveridge and the Five Giant Evils William Beveridge was part of the war
time government, after world war two he was tasked with the job of putting in place a
framework for the welfare state. The aim of the report was to find out what Britain
needed to take care of the basic needs of all the people and to begin to put in place a set
of reforms to give every citizen of Britain a basic standard of living. Published in 1942
the Report proposed a new social security system that would provide benefits from the
cradle to the grave this would include in ideally a system of proper healthcare, sickness
and unemployment benefits, family allowance and an employment policy. As well as
this, the report would outline how best to tackle the five giant evils, Beveridge
believed that these issues were what was standing in the way of social progress for
post war Britain. Citizens were more open to government intervention in relation to
social welfare due to their increased involvement for the duration of the war,
individuals became accustomed to higher taxation to help cover medical costs and
services for people who had been injured by bombing and air raids. This example of
free health care paved the way for creation to the NHS and made individuals more
aware of the benefits of free health care. Also, due to the mixing of social classes
during the second world war on the battle field and on the home front, as well as shared
experiences under a common enemy many British people

and other and engine components are toxic to aquatic plants and animals (McCoy, et

small amounts of some of these chemicals such as antifreeze could be very toxic even
to humans (McCoy, et al, 2010). Animal death could also result from human activity.
The cause of death of the organism shown in figure 11 could not be determined during

however, safe to say it could have been struck by a boat or caught and released by during

My best friend and I decide to go camping, it was supposed to be a regular long

issues that it could bring to us. It was a Memorial weekend and two days before the
weekend we planned everything to travel 5 hours away from home. The plan was just
go camping, spend time with nature, and disconnect from the world. We did not plan
that the park was for crazy parties, we also did not plan that the police will stop us,
and of course, we did not plan that my car broke down on our way back. During our
way to Gennie Springs, everything was fine. We traveled for 5 hours without any

they were all hangover and do not even know that the camping has numbers. After an

of the new found time to focus on the critical study of Latin and Greek literature
studying human nature. People at the time were looking at the human nature instead
of the church but it did not affect the church too much. Education became a main focus
of the time and also art people wanted to be the ideal renaissance man who was good in
many subjects and in the arts. One of the most important inventions that have brought
enormous change was the printing press. One invention changed the world. It allowed
books to made faster and easier. People became more literate and were able to interpret
texts in their own way instead of having one person state how they believed the text
should be interpreted and used. Having a faster way to communicate ideas allow for
new ones to emerge and be widespread. Without the invention of the printing press, we
would probably be in a different place entirely or history could have slowed down. Art
was also a big part of this time period. The art became more realistic and the painters
became more acclaimed. It became an item of status with the wealthy commissioning the
artist. Pieces of art were also used to send a message while also focusing on the natural
Essay on Epic of Gilgamesh
Title:Gilgamesh Type:Epic Author: Anonymous Theme:The central idea of
Gilgamesh was the greed that he had to receive eternal life. Gilgamesh was a selfish
person who was half god and half man and wanted to keep his youth after seeing
Enkidu die. Gilgamesh knew his destiny was not to receive eternal life because he was
half man. He decided to go against the odds to fight against not having eternal life
searching for the secret despite what the Gods told him. Exposition:The story dates
between 2500 1500 B.C. Gilgamesh ruled in Uruk, a city in ancient Mesopotamia.
Protagonist:The epic is centered on Gilgamesh because he is the main character and
ruler of Uruk who in the beginning is rude and arrogant and has a journey... Show more

Crisis:Death is the crisis for Gilgamesh and the fact he is half man is preventing him
from living forever. He decides to ignore the advice given to the gods and goes on a
quest to find the boatman Utnapishtim for eternal life. Climax:Gilgamesh goes on his
journey for everlasting life and find the boat man Utnapishtim for everlasting life.
First, Gilgamesh is challenged to stay awake for 6 days and 7 nights, but he fails at
the task. Secondly, he tells Gilgamesh that a prickly plant has the answer for his
eternal life and if he is able to capture it he will hold in his hands the answer for his
youth. As Gilgamesh goes to cleanse him self, a serpent takes his plant and Gilgamesh
is saddened because this now means death is in his path. He decides to make plans to
take the plant to the elderly men to renew their youth which shows leadership as a
king is suppose to be. Resolution or Denouement: In the beginning of the epic
Gilgamesh the people of Uruk saw Gilgamesh as a lousy, obnoxious, arrogant ruler.
After his journeys to find everlasting life his heart began to soften and see a different
perspective of life. It was revealed long after Gilgamesh s death that he was actually
considered a god. This helps explain his fear towards death. Gilgamesh wanted to
physically be a great warrior until the end of time opposed to just another historic
memory. Although it was not actually death he was afraid of,

Touch analysis
Touch Football was only formalized in the 1970 s and is now played in all of
Australia. Coaches of Rugby teams used variations of for offseason activities. The game
came to be known as Touch Rugby/Football, now simply known as touch. The main
differences in the rules of the game of touch and rugby league is that there is no tackling
you have to touch the attacking player instead, kicking is not allowed, the dummy half
cannot get touched and the ball is not allowed to drop to the ground.
In the game of touch there are three positions and two players at each position on the
field, the positions are middle, link and wing. The main roles for the middle are to
ruck/drive the ball down the field in attack and to close down the defence. The
predominant energy system used at a professional level is the lactic acid system but as
they are subbed off regularly and at a senior high school level we do not have the luxury
of enough players to sub on the energy system used changes to the aerobic system.
Knowledge of rucking patterns and organisation helps make a great middle.
The key roles in the position of link are to set up tries for the wing position and
controlling the defensive and offensive line. The focal energy system used by the link
position is the lactic acid system. The ability to find gaps in the defence separates good
links from great ones.
Lastly, the wing position, finishes off the set plays by scoring
Reflection On Light And How Light Bendss In The Whitehouse
This following science lab reflection is about light and how it bends while it travels
from one thing to another. Our main goal for this lab was to discover how light bends.
But the problem is that we have to break in and get past laser security in the Whitehouse.
I hypothesised that, if we can bend the lightaround us then we will be able to get past
the laser security. If we shine water at the light then the light will bend better and we
will be able to get past the laser security and into the Whitehouse. In this lab we used
the mediums: air, water, and glass. We also used prisms, such as a circle, square, and
triangle. These materials all helped us figure out, which was the best to bend the light
with. What we did to find these results was through a computer simulation to test the way
the light bends with others objects and prisms. This is a short summary about what we
did and used for this Science Lab. When conducting this Lab we found many interesting
findings. A few findings were that when the light from the air hit the water the angle of
refractiondecreased to 22o compared to the angle of incident/reflectionof 30o. The
opposite occurred when the light from the water hit the air. The angle of refraction
increased drastically to 42o when still compared at 30o angle of incident/reflection.
With the light from air to the glass, the angle of refraction decreased a lot to 19o with
the 30o angle of reflection/incident. Things I can say after these results are that the
The Psychosocial Development Of Infants And Children Essay
The psychosocial development of infants and children is a topic that has been studied by
many. Per the Psychology textbook by Ciccarelli, personality and the formation of
relationships begins with psychological and social development during infancy and
childhood (p.328). Personality is shown through temperament, a childs temperament in
relation to their primary caregiver s temperament will determine what style of attachment
the child forms with the caregiver (p.330). Attachment is very important for infants and
young children to form emotional bonds. There are four styles of attachment secure,
avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized disoriented. Secure attachment is the most
important style of attachment. Those with secure attachment have a developed sense of
self that will carry through to adulthood, and lead to positively affected relationships.
The ability to form secure attachment begins with temperament. Temperament is the
behavioral and emotional characteristics that are almost completely established at birth
and demonstrate how every person has a different personality (p.328). Researchers
Chess and Thomas identified that there are three basic styles of temperament; easy,
difficult, and slow to warm up. Infants that are considered to have an easy temperament
are those that adapt well to change, are overall happy, and soothe easily after distress
(p.328). Infants that are considered to have a difficult temperament tend to be very
unhappy with any degree of change,
Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone
While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences
between Paulin s Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice
of reason in contrast to her rash and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as
sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated not only linguistically but also in
personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the punishment. Her
concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most
unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as
she stresses how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines
clearly mark a point at which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to
Sophocles s politics. However, these lines also raise questions about the nature of
Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original, inherently un Irish and
untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that the Irish
are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to
be? More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s
translationraises such questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness,
removing it from a familiar context defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character
stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices expected of conventional Irish plays.
How Spirited Away, The Emperor And The Assassin, And...
Three different movies set in three different times, yet they are united by one theme that
is history. This analysis will focus on how Spirited Away, The Emperor and the
Assassin, and Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons are part of a modern and
ancient history that are still practiced today. Even though these movies are a mixture of
legends, fictions, and facts we can still appreciate the meaning behind each story.
Furthermore, this analysis will enhance East Asian s historical meaning. Spirited Away
is a Japanese movie created by a man that can be considered as one of the greatest
animators in history from many people around the world, Hayao Miyazaki. This movie
tells the adventurous story that Chihiro... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film, we also observed that bowing is an important part of Japanese tradition.
Kids learned to bow from a very young age and they are taught the different kinds of
bows. In Chihiro, we see that her bowing varies according to the person she is
meeting. For instance, when she meets Kamaji, Zeniba and Yubaba her bows are deep
and long. On the other hand, her bows towards No face and the stick lamp are shorter
and less deep. In this film, we can appreciate the references made for new generations
to appreciate and respect the culture they learned from years. Even though this
illustrated film shows fictional characters we can see how it connects to modern
Japan. The historical aspect of Japanese people is starting to fade like in the ending of
the movie when Haku learned by Chihiro that where he used to live people destroy the
river to construct apartment. Many of this Japanese tradition is being lost, according to
Rachel Tackett in an online article, spring of 2008 that number dropped to a mere
4,343, and it continues to decrease at a rate of almost one a day. There simply aren t
enough customers to support the industry, not to mention that there are few young
people prepared to take over the business if traditions are lost and we are becoming a
more globalized world how can we differentiate one from another.
Chick Boat Research Paper
As the bus meandered along the country roads, questionsfloated through my mind:
How far were we from the Snake River? Where were ourguides? In our bus full of
tourists, my mom, sister and I felt foolish being theonly ones who rented wet suits for
our Colorado rafting adventure. As the busdescended a gravel hill, I saw a turbulent,
muddy river eager to swallow me.Along the bank were college students awaiting our
arrival with dozens of yellowrafts.
Our guide, Kim, was muscular and had long, dirty blond hair thathung in clumps. We
introduced ourselves to her and the other passengers; therewas one couple on their
honeymoon and a group of five college girls. One of themchristened our raft Chick Boat,

Mountains of water loomed, and as the others screamedin exhilaration, my body froze. I
was sure there was a way to bypass thetreacherous waters ahead. My mind raced through
Kim s instructions, but I couldnot get my thoughts together. I dug my feet in as tight as
I could so most of myweight was in my legs. I paddled faster, intent on obeying every
one of Kim s commands.
As the nose of the raft dove into the first wave, it broke over the heads of the four people
in front. (I was glad I was in back!) I yelled to continue paddling, and I don t know if I
made any difference as we rode wave after wave, but it kept my mind and body
occupied. The raft rocked and pitched in all directions at once; at times it seemed
perpendicular to the river. How could they be enjoying this?
All of a sudden, the river was calm. I had survived. I wanted to scream, I did it! I
realized everyone was shivering except my friends and I and I silently thanked my coach
for making us rent the wetsuits.
Through the trees, I saw the truck waiting for us. We Followed our coaches instructions
and grounded the raft. As we got in the truck, I felt satisfied I had risen to the
Queers Are Like Jews, Aren T They By Janet R. Jakobsen...
Janet R. Jakobsen s essay, Queers Are Like Jews, Aren t They? Analogy and Alliance
Politics, is about carelessness, the misuse of analogies, and the inattention to racism,
fascism, and homophobic generalizations. I chose to discuss the second paragraph
because it ironically generalizes; aka paraphrases the essay in a whole. However, it
provides a reader with no prior knowledge of the subject the information to comprehend
Jakobsen s key points, which are important to understanding the purpose of the essay. She
explains the importance of exploring [the] questions [she asks in the beginning of her

crucial to the essay because as human beings, we tend

Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis
Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap
between the lower class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial
Revolution take place and the social system change from feudalism to capitalism.
Similarly, William Blake, who lived in Industrial Revolution era England, witnessed
this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the inhumane labor practices common to
the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a poem called The Chimney
Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience
(1794). With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small children as
chimney sweepers, drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the
practice and the way it s overlooked. In the Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a
narrative from the point of view of a child laborer. The tone is full of youthful
innocence, which harshly contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation. The
speaker is a young child, as implied in clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely
cry weep! weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the speaker means both literally a weep,
as well as the word sweep, which, if said by a young child, may sound like weep. With
this clever word choice, Blake invites readers to profoundly pity the poor child, as he is
so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet sent to his death anyway. The child s
innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later

to cut off their donations. This is very true because donors
Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Social Networks
Introduction
A social network is a social structure made up of individuals that are tied together by
friendship, kinship, common interest, sexual relationship, knowledge or prestige.
Generally, teens use social network to communicate and stay in touch with their friends
or make new friends. Teens also use social networks to make social plans with friends
and maybe to flirt. Teenagers love to express themselves.

There are many types of social Network; Social Connection, multimedia sharing,
professional, informational, educational, academic and hobbies.
In the social connection, Facebook, Twitter, Myspaceare the examples. Facebook
provides a way for users to build connections and share information with people and
organizations they choose to interact with online. By using Twitter you share your
thoughts and keep up with others via this real time information network. By the way
Myspace has evolved to focus on social entertainment, providing a venue for social

Voting Rules For Minority Governments
Voting establishes choice; it allows opportunities and variety to be discovered amongst
individuals. In Canada, voters choose to elect one Member of Parliament in their riding.
The political party that wins the most seats in the House of Commons becomes the
government s ruling party. If this party wins more than half the seats, it forms a majority
government. If they win less than half the seats, it results in a hung parliament, which can
either, be a minority governmentor a coalition. Canada mostly forms minority
governments, which are made up of cabinet ministers from the party alone and the rest is
left up to chance that opposing members will support their plans. I agree with the
statement that minority governments are preferable to majority governments because in
order to remain in power and maintain confidence in the House of Commons they have to
negotiate with other parties. Since they do not have a majority, they cannot use party
discipline to confirm support in legislature. (Minority Governments in Canada, 2007)
Due to this, they must work with opposition parties in order to garner support for their
government legislation.
Minority governments are said to be unstable due to needing the support of other parties
to stay in power and are ineffective for bringing change to the country. However in
Canada, Since 1921, we have had 29 elections, and 13 have resulted in minority
governments. (Why a Minority Government is a Win for Canadians, 2015) These
governments have
Let Us Now Praise Famous Men Analysis
In James Agee and Walker Evans s Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, the photographs
are given independence and co equality compared to the text. There are no captions to
accompany the photographs, and there are no explicit descriptions of them in the text.
This makes the photo essay distinct from the conventional model in which text is
broken up and supported by images, which makes the most logical sense to readers. I
agree with Mitchell in that this is an interesting way to treat pictures, and it is difficult
for the reader to comprehend. Mitchel states that Agee s generic requirements are ...
prescriptions for a highly alert reader/viewer that may not yet exist, that may in fact have
to be created. This observation makes me wonder if the authors predicted that the photo
essay would be confusing to the average reader.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
By starting the volume with Evans s photographs, and then labeling the text that
follows Book Two, the reader realizes that the photographs were supposed to be read as
closely as text. Perhaps that is what the authors wanted to their readers to do to look
over the photographs, read the text, and then go back and review the photographs and
make connections between the two. However, this demands much more of a reader than
a regular photo essay. Mitchell states that the odd format resists the straightforward
collaboration of photo and text. He attempts to explain the separation between the
images and the text by labeling it an ethical strategy, a way of preventing easy access to
the world they represent. While art is supposed to have some aspect of abstraction, this
photo essay exploits that idea to the extreme. The spy/counter spy relation is not a normal
dynamic that readers see, and it makes the photo essay more difficult to understand and
relate

  • 4. Native American Colonies Effects How do you think the Native Americans were affected as colonies expanded into different parts of the nowadays known United States? The Native Americans were very much affected as colonies started to expand into the U.S. Many of the natives were tortured, killed, imprisoned, and much more. This essay will provide many unique and different times in history when Native Americans were being affected by expanding colonies. Let s start off early with Christopher ColumbusOne of the first effects felt by Native Americans happened in the late 1400s when Christopher Columbus and his soldiers sailed to the Bahama Islands where him and his crew met the Arawak people. They were very generous people, willing to trade anything they owned to the settlers. Upon first meeting the Arawak people Columbus thought how he could use them to his advantage: They would make fine servants... With fifty men we could subjugate them and make them do whatever we want (Zinn 1). With this in mind, he brought few prisoners back to Spain with him, claiming that there was gold and slaves on the island, the King and Queen granted him over 1,200 men and seventeen ships to sail back. This time Columbus couldn t find gold, but brought back 500 captives, although, 200 of them died on the voyage. After showing the King and Queen, he was sent back again to find the gold and more slaves. Columbus being worried about finding gold he said Indians who did not give gold to the Spaniards had their hands cut off and bled
  • 5. Martin Luther King Jr Quote For Positive Change Martin Luther King Junior: Examining a man of light Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out Hate: only love can do that (Brainy Quote). Martin Luther King Junior was a man of light along with love. This allowed him to create a new path for the young blacks of America. Throughout his life Martin Luther King was often confronted by discrimination around every corner whether it was at school as a young child or as an adult trying to find a job or a decent college that would accept him. He eventually discovered he could do something or at the very least help those around him. This was a pivotal point in his life as it was a deciding factor on the way he spent the rest of his life. He would either... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He accomplished this by leading peaceful marches all over the country. Many of the cities he visited were changed forever. One of the largest impacts he had was in Albany. The center of civil unrest in the country at the time and King took it on. There were thirty eight thousand whites and only eighteen thousand blacks. Many of the blacks lived in poverty and were unable to get a good paying job most of them worked as sanitation workers. King planed a peaceful march through Albany but was convicted to forty five days in prison leading up to the march. While he was in jail blacks gathered outside the jail to sing for him. He paid bail then but vowed to never again pay unless everyone else was out of prison first. This proves that King was a brave man that was compassionate beyond compare. Another of King s campaigns towards erasing discrimination was in Washington. Here King started a movement to allow blacks to vote. In Washington King addressed the nation for the first time. It was at this point that King became a national figure. All of those who watched the speech felt moved and understood King for who he really was a man who was trying to fix a nation. In his first national speech King became a national figure and was asked to go to every march or event all across America (Bishop 196 198). This sudden fame was a shock to King suddenly he was respected and everyone listened
  • 6. Supervalu Vs Frosted Flakes The differences between the name brand cereal Frosted Flakes and the off brand values, Malt O Meal and SuperValu is that the Frosted Flakes were actually healthier and better for you than the other cereals. The three only had one thing in common and it was 0g Trans. Fat per serving. While Frosted Flakes and Malt O Meal share 0 mg Cholesterol per serving. Out of the three the SuperValu cereal was probably the worst for you with 555g of Calories per serving, and 560mg of Sodium. If I had to chose one cereal out of these three I would probably chose the name brand Frosted Flakes cereal since it has 10g of Sugar, 150mg of Sodium, and only 110g of Calories per serving. • 7. Anthropogenic Effects Of Upwelling Organisms have the ability to adapt to certain stresses called a stress response, however the region in which they are able to cope with stress is only so big. Once once the threshold is past the organism can no longer cope with the stress and it negatively affects the organism. Anthropogenic induced climate change are adding many stress factors on organism that they have to cope with at once. Upwelling occurs when winds from the North come down, bringing up the nutrient rich waters up with them. This nutrient is good for the area, however due to other anthropogenic causes this can be a recipe for disaster. The East Pacific Coast is an area that experiences upwelling. This area of upwelling is special, because the Pacific is end of the converobelt of the Meridional cycle. This means that this water is the most oxygen depleted and most Carbon rich in the ocean. Increasing CO2 emissions finding their ways into the ocean, and increasing carbon in the oceans leads to its acidification. We can measure how certain variables like temperature, ph and oxygen levels affect on biological processes such a growth rate, reproduction and mortality. The organism we choose to study can be from different trophic levels to see how these changes affect the ecosystem as a whole and the food web. We can take measurements of these factors where they are high and see how they affect the organism. Additionally, we can test these variables individually in close systems to see what type of effects it has. In a video we watched in class we saw how rising pH could affect corals killing them off with coral bleaching and if acidic enough the coral itself would erode away because it was under the saturated state. Understanding these effects is essential to preserving our ocean and its

Typing on a keyboard makes me feel successful in communicating and getting ideas out. I discovered typing as a different way of talking . At the age of 6 or 7, I discovered typing in either kindergarten or first grade. It was in a computer room and we played typing games on the computer to practice typing. Throughout my education and out of the classroom, I learned how to type very fast. I think the highest I can go is at least 70 words per minute. I feel like I was free to let my fingers to talk for me. I was doing daily typing either on desktop or laptop to keep my typing consistency. When I
  • 9. A Brief Note On The American Civil War One consequence of the American Civil war is that it was the largest catastrophe in American history. Approximately one in four soldiers that went to war never returned home. There weren t any cemeteries, burial details or messengers of loss. The army didn t have the mechanisms needed to handle the amount of deaths the nation was gonna experience. It was the bloodiest conflict and there had been an unprecedented violence of battles such as Gettysburg, Shiloh and Antietam. The Civil war was America s costliest war, with 623,000 dead, with approximately 33,000 from Pennsylvania. The wounded individuals were amputees that struggled to overcome the perceptions of disabled as less than members of society. There was a lot of diseases during the civil war. The worst out the bunch was by far Dysentery. It had gotten around 45,00 deaths in the union army and 50,000 in the Confederate army. Contaminated water had caused the disease. In those days, hygiene wasn t a big issue. Another major killer was typhoid. This was also a result of contaminated water or food. It had killed 30,000 confederate and 35,00 union troops. Another consequence during the civil war was the economy. Of all the disadvantages the Confederacy experienced during the Civil War, its lack of a sound currency was particularly damaging. There was limited resources available with more than $1 million in hard currency or specie which the confederacy relied mainly on for printed money. It went down rapidly in
  • 10. Psychology Assumptions We all hold assumptions about the world and how it works. These assumptions frame our understanding of God, ourselves, others, and life and how to be successful in life. These assumptions affect our understanding and interpretation of facts and of events that occur in our lives. As Aristotle said, It s not the facts that divide men, but the interpretation of the facts (as cited in Hummel, 1986, p. 23). Our assumptions are acquired, often unconsciously or uncritically, by our own experiences and by what we have been taught about life by others. They become a lens by which we view reality. What is the structure of a DNA molecule? These all have physical proper ties that can be measured and tested. Psychology is more subjective than the physical sciences and therefore more open to interpretation. Myers (2014) understands psychology as a science that seeks to answer such questions about us all how and why we think, feel, and act as we do (p. 1). Questions such as, Who are we? What produces our thoughts? Our feelings? Our actions? And how are we to understand and manage those around us? (Myers, 2014, p. 2). Answers to questions like these are profoundly affected by our presuppositions. For example, if I believe that people are inherently good and not affected by sin, I m going to answer these questions a certain way. If I believe that people are created in the image of God, but fallen and being redeemed, I m going to answer them differently. How I respond to people and circumstances will also be different. So examining and understanding my own presuppositions as well as those of the theorists I am studying is important if I am going to be more objective and discover the

Evaluation Of The Development Of Children Chapter One: Introduction Chapter 2: Literature Review Attachment is important to the development of children in order for them to establish bonds and feel security with primary caregivers. Children who are adopted or placed in substitute care often times experience major breaks in caregiving. This results in children lacking the ability to feel safe, loved, wanted and apart of another human being. This break in attachment sometimes leaves the child reeling lost and anger with those providing for them. The feeling of attachment, or lack of attachment, can determine and affect the future outcomes of children as they grow in to adults. What people believe soon becomes their reality. It is needles to mention all the different beliefs and religions who preach their own picture of how things really are. Protestants think that diseases are sent from God, and that any attempt to cure them will be punished. The Aborigines think that if you paint your own picture, your soul will get trapped in it. In the modern world diseases are being cured and pictures are being taken. Still, these people stick to their beliefs, considering them as reality. Experience is a great factor in determining reality. When one tribe from the Amazon forest first saw a camera (or other technical object) they saw nothing, just an empty space. It was until they touched the camera that their mind started to perceive it. Strange, indeed. But this is true example of how people s mind organizes its own reality. Their mind decided that the camera is too weird to interpret and edit it out. They had no previous experience with a camera. Maybe the best example is the movie Vanilla sky , where the main character lives in a dream. There are a lot

This paper is about the financial crisis in 2008 and how it all started as well as the ways that banking has operated and is operating today. I have watched all of Chairman Bernanke s college lecture videos and he has gone into many different aspects of banking including how the Federal Reserve began, what lead to the recent financial crisis, and what we are doing as a nation to see what we can do to help eliminate from happening again. First, I will be summarizing Chairman Bernanke s four lectures he did in 2012 at George Washington University. Chairman Bernanke s first lecture was more focused on the history of central banking and how the Federal Reserve of the United States of America began. What Bernanke talked about is how central banking is essential to all modern nations that revolve around their own personal currency. An example he gave is of course our Federal Reserve in America and the EU Federal Bank that revolves around the euro. He also delved into the policy tools that the Federal Reserve is responsible for. Some of these tools are monetary policy. This policy is important for maintaining macroeconomic stability by adjusting interest rates to help influence spending, production, employment, and inflation. Another one of the tools that the central banks are responsible for is the provision of liquidity which deals in the financial crises and the handing out of short term loans to help ease financial panics. This tool is also the lender of last resort which

Our main goal for this lab was to discover how light bends. But the problem is that we have to break in and get past laser security in the Whitehouse. I hypothesised that, if we can bend the lightaround us then we will be able to get past the laser security. If we shine water at the light then the light will bend better and we will be able to get past the laser security and into the Whitehouse. In this lab we used the mediums: air, water, and glass. We also used prisms, such as a circle, square, and triangle. These materials all helped us figure out, which was the best to bend the light with. What we did to find these results was through a computer simulation to test the way the light bends with others objects and prisms. This is a short summary about what we did and used for this Science Lab. When conducting this Lab we found many interesting findings. A few findings were that when the light from the air hit the water the angle of refractiondecreased to 22o compared to the angle of incident/reflectionof 30o. The opposite occurred when the light from the water hit the air. The angle of refraction increased drastically to 42o when still compared at 30o angle of incident/reflection. With the light from air to the glass, the angle of refraction decreased a lot to 19o with the 30o angle of reflection/incident. Things I can say after these results are that the
  • 26. The Psychosocial Development Of Infants And Children Essay The psychosocial development of infants and children is a topic that has been studied by many. Per the Psychology textbook by Ciccarelli, personality and the formation of relationships begins with psychological and social development during infancy and childhood (p.328). Personality is shown through temperament, a childs temperament in relation to their primary caregiver s temperament will determine what style of attachment the child forms with the caregiver (p.330). Attachment is very important for infants and young children to form emotional bonds. There are four styles of attachment secure, avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized disoriented. Secure attachment is the most important style of attachment. Those with secure attachment have a developed sense of self that will carry through to adulthood, and lead to positively affected relationships. The ability to form secure attachment begins with temperament. Temperament is the behavioral and emotional characteristics that are almost completely established at birth and demonstrate how every person has a different personality (p.328). Researchers Chess and Thomas identified that there are three basic styles of temperament; easy, difficult, and slow to warm up. Infants that are considered to have an easy temperament are those that adapt well to change, are overall happy, and soothe easily after distress (p.328). Infants that are considered to have a difficult temperament tend to be very unhappy with any degree of change,
  • 27. Analysis Of Fagles s Antigone While Ismene s language relies heavily upon a Northern Irish dialect, differences between Paulin s Ismene and Fagles go further. In Fagles s Antigone, Ismene is a voice of reason in contrast to her rash and hot headed sister. She advocates prudence as sensible . Paulin s work offers an Ismene translated not only linguistically but also in personality. As this Ismene warns Antigone, she thinks only of the punishment. Her concern is not that the two would defy the state but that they would die and in a most unpleasant manner. Her speech emphasizes the concern for them rather than the state as she stresses how we ll die and repeatedly speaks of what will happen to us . These lines clearly mark a point at which Paulin chose fidelity to Ismene s Irishness over fidelity to Sophocles s politics. However, these lines also raise questions about the nature of Irishness. Is Ismene s rational response, in the original, inherently un Irish and untranslatable into an Irish context? And, if so, is Paulin suggesting here that the Irish are the overly emotional and hot blooded people that stereotypes have made them out to be? More than a simple substitution of standard English for Irish English, Paulin s translationraises such questions throughout. As he translates, Paulin displaces Irishness, removing it from a familiar context defined by Irish/English dichotomies, character stereotypes, and the trite settings and practices expected of conventional Irish plays.

  • 32. Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap between the lower class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial Revolution take place and the social system change from feudalism to capitalism. Similarly, William Blake, who lived in Industrial Revolution era England, witnessed this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the inhumane labor practices common to the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a poem called The Chimney Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794). With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small children as chimney sweepers, drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the practice and the way it s overlooked. In the Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a narrative from the point of view of a child laborer. The tone is full of youthful innocence, which harshly contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation. The speaker is a young child, as implied in clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely cry weep! weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the speaker means both literally a weep, as well as the word sweep, which, if said by a young child, may sound like weep. With this clever word choice, Blake invites readers to profoundly pity the poor child, as he is so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet sent to his death anyway. The child s innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later

  • 35. Voting Rules For Minority Governments Voting establishes choice; it allows opportunities and variety to be discovered amongst individuals. In Canada, voters choose to elect one Member of Parliament in their riding. The political party that wins the most seats in the House of Commons becomes the government s ruling party. If this party wins more than half the seats, it forms a majority government. If they win less than half the seats, it results in a hung parliament, which can either, be a minority governmentor a coalition. Canada mostly forms minority governments, which are made up of cabinet ministers from the party alone and the rest is left up to chance that opposing members will support their plans. I agree with the statement that minority governments are preferable to majority governments because in order to remain in power and maintain confidence in the House of Commons they have to negotiate with other parties. Since they do not have a majority, they cannot use party discipline to confirm support in legislature. (Minority Governments in Canada, 2007) Due to this, they must work with opposition parties in order to garner support for their government legislation. Minority governments are said to be unstable due to needing the support of other parties to stay in power and are ineffective for bringing change to the country. However in Canada, Since 1921, we have had 29 elections, and 13 have resulted in minority governments. (Why a Minority Government is a Win for Canadians, 2015) These governments have
  • 36. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men Analysis In James Agee and Walker Evans s Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, the photographs are given independence and co equality compared to the text. There are no captions to accompany the photographs, and there are no explicit descriptions of them in the text. This makes the photo essay distinct from the conventional model in which text is broken up and supported by images, which makes the most logical sense to readers. I agree with Mitchell in that this is an interesting way to treat pictures, and it is difficult for the reader to comprehend. Mitchel states that Agee s generic requirements are ... prescriptions for a highly alert reader/viewer that may not yet exist, that may in fact have to be created. This observation makes me wonder if the authors predicted that the photo essay would be confusing to the average reader.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By starting the volume with Evans s photographs, and then labeling the text that follows Book Two, the reader realizes that the photographs were supposed to be read as closely as text. Perhaps that is what the authors wanted to their readers to do to look over the photographs, read the text, and then go back and review the photographs and make connections between the two. However, this demands much more of a reader than a regular photo essay. Mitchell states that the odd format resists the straightforward collaboration of photo and text. He attempts to explain the separation between the images and the text by labeling it an ethical strategy, a way of preventing easy access to the world they represent. While art is supposed to have some aspect of abstraction, this photo essay exploits that idea to the extreme. The spy/counter spy relation is not a normal dynamic that readers see, and it makes the photo essay more difficult to understand and relate
