West Transformation In The Late Nineteenth Century
3. How and why was the West transformed in the late nineteenth century? How did these
changes affect the people living in the West? How did the changes in the West transform
America? In the late nineteenth century, the rise of an industrial America took the
country by storm. New innovations, and the development of steel manufacturing,
petroleum refining, and the expansion of railroads, changed the nation s economy and
the lifestyle of the people. The names of Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P.
Morgan became widely known. This industrial boom introduced a new class of wealthy
industrialist and a well off middle class. Unfortunately, farmers began to struggle
immensely during this time; the prices for farm produce began to fall... Show more

Indeed, the stock market crash triggered this event, however the vastly poor
distribution of wealth, the wages of industrial workers, and the profitless work of
farmers all added up to this downfall. In addition, high tariffs set by the U.S. made it
difficult for foreign nations to sell goods to them and to buy goods in return. And to
make things better, banks were failing and in result wiping out life savings of
hundreds of people. The last straw was drawn when the stock market hesitated and
investors began to sell their stocks for fear of what could happen. Brokers jammed the
stocks as they attempted to unload shares. This grave dip became a panic that would
be known as black Thursday. The following Tuesday all stocks had lost six sevenths of
their value, and it would be appropriately called black Tuesday. With thousands of
people s life savings gone overnight, the economy suffered immensely. Due to the lack
of money people began to stop buying goods. To make up for the lack of revenue,
businesses laid off countless workers to decrease the price of their outputs. This only
furthered the issue into a never ending cycle. People now without jobs could not afford
goods, and businesses continued to lay off its workers to stay profitable. Millions of
Americans lived in poverty at this time, many unable to buy the
Essay on The Road of Joseph Ratzinger t Pope Ementus
Benedict
The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and the leader of the Catholic Church. This is something
that started right after the death of Jesus. When Jesus resurrected, he said to St. Peter,
Feed my lambs.... Tend my sheep.... Feed my sheep. This command given to Peter made
him the head of the apostles, henceforth, making him the first Pope. Peter would rule for
approximately 34 years, and when he died he was succeeded by St. Linus. The
tradition of serving as Pope until death was started by Peter and has been carried on for
centuries. Since Peter, there have been 264 Popes and very few have not stayed in power
until their death. Most recently, and most commonly known, is Pope Benedict XVI. As
the successor of John Paul II, Benedict chose to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He studied philosophy and theology at the University of Munich. This marked the end
of his time as a Nazi solider. When asked about his time as a Nazi Solider in an
interview, he answered by saying, The holocaust was a dark time in my life; one that
continues to haunt me. On June 29, 1951, Joseph Ratzinger was ordained a priest.
During his time as a priest, Ratzinger spent most of his time teaching. He taught dogma
and fundamental theology at Freising College, and was later given a chair position in
the subject of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Tubingen. Joseph moved
through the hierarchy rather quickly. Just eight years after being ordained, he was
named the chief theological expert to Cardinal Joseph Frings during the second
Vatican Council, held on January 25, 1959. 1977 was a huge year for Joseph Ratzinger.
In March, he was named archbishop of Munich and Freising, and in June, he was
officially confirmed a cardinal by Pope Paul VI. Ratzinger was part of the College of
Cardinals. This is a group of Cardinals that assist the Pope in making decisions about
the Church. In 1998, he was elected as vice dean of the college, and by 2002, he was
elected the dean. Ratzinger s ability to move up the hierarchy quickly made him the
prime choice when it came time to pick a new pope in 2005. After the death of John
Paul II, the Catholic Church needed to elect a new Pope. On April 19, 2005,
Characteristics Of Muslim Modernism
The issue of modernism has become the main issues among Islamic society since the
western modern principle influenced Islamic society. In addition, some of Islamic
modern thinkers also received modern education. As the result, they felt unsatisfied
towards the traditional thinkers among Muslim society. Some of them go extremely to
the modern thinking by rejecting all the pure of Islamic world thinking. However, some
of them adopt the modern thinking to Islamic traditional thinking to develop the new
revival perception of Islam. The purpose of this book is to describe the modern thinkers
of Islam perceptions towards some issues such as, intellectual, political, economic, social
and educational bases.

characteristics of Muslim modernism. First of all, the author defines the concept of
modernism is the opposite of the medievalism perception. The modernism seeks the
reason for all the things logically, and they consider to the progress thing. In the terms of
Muslim modernism, the author mentions there are for the Muslim modernism
characters. The first character is Muslim modernism to believe that there is the process
of cause and effect in life. This process should be rational and can be accepted logically.
The second characteristic is against the Sufism. The Muslim modernism reformers
attended to change the general characteristic of Muslim society which is passive as the
Sufism perception. Next, the Muslim modernism is also against to the taqlid or blind

The Order of Things nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Disturbing the universe is one of the

authority. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In the beginning of the story, we are introduced

to convince him to take the chocolates. I just can t. I m committed now... It s not The

An Buyer Owner Of The Land
Heidi
Heidi does not have a legal interest in Whitegates as Alex is the sole owner of the land.
What must be established is whether she has an equitable interest in Whitegates that will
bind the purchaser Molly.
The express creation of a trust is not the only method to create a trust. Trusts can be
created by the action of the landowner or by third parties. Heidi acquires an equitable
interest in the land under implied trust due to the deposit she made when Alex
purchased the property (Williams Glynn Bank v Boland (1981) AC 487). When this
happens no formalities are imposed such as registration of the interest (S. 53(2) Law of
property Act 1925).
Having established that Heidi has an equitable interest in the property it must be
determined how this interest affects Molly s purchase of the property.
The Land Registration Act 2002 established three categories of third party interests. One
of these categories covers unregistered interests in land which are capable of overriding
registered dispositions such as the purchase of freehold. Heidi s circumstance would be
relevant to this category as her interest is unregistered.
In order to establish whether Heidi has an overriding interest in the property schedule
three paragraph 2 of the Land Registration Act 2002 must be satisfied.
Firstly there must be interest in the land. Heidi s equitable interest has been established
by her contribution to the purchase of the property.
Secondly, Heidi must be in actual occupation

Sacagawea was born in what is now Idaho in 1789 or 1790. She was a Shoshone
Indian, also known as the Snake Indians. As a child, like many young Indians, she had
many names. She became known as Sacagawea which means Bird Woman. She had
two brothers and a sister. Her family lived in a tipi along the Bitterroot Range of the
Rocky Mountains. In the summer months the Shoshone camped along streams where
they fished for Salmon and Trout. In the fall the tribe headed east to the present day
Montana. The men hunted buffalo using bows and arrow, and the women sewed
clothes for the tribe using deer skins and buffalo hides. Since the Shoshone did not have
schools, Sacagawea learned by working beside the women of her tribe. She collected

Deontological Code Of Ethics Essay
1.Define the term ethics. Ethics is the study of human behavior and the morality of each
individual. 2.Define the terms deontology (deontological approach) and teleology
(teleological approach). Deontology: is the act of doing the right thing no matter what the
consequences are. For example, if an individual has a family member that killed someone
then, it is his/her duty to go against the family member to say the truth. Even though it is
bad to go against a family member, according to the deontological approach, it is doing
the right thing. This individual is doing the right thing because he/she is not hiding
anything, he/she is being truthful, and he/she is being honest. Teleology: is the act of
doing the right thing depending what the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of this theory is to eliminate suffering amongst everyone. This ethical theory
is different to Kant s ethical theory by the way utilitarianism is more towards the
happiness route, while Kant s theory is more towards following the moral rules. Kant s
ethical theory is not about maximizing happiness or pleasing anyone. This theory is
more about acting and doing things the moral way such as duties that are morally right.
4. Compare rule utilitarianism with act utilitarianism. Rule utilitarianism is compared
to act utilitarianism by the way it promotes happiness. A rule utilitarian is concerned
more with the rule, yet by pleasing people. On the other hand, act utilitarianism is
concerned with individual acts. For example, being honest to an individual will
generate happiness. 5. Contrast a right with a duty and a right with a privilege. A right
is a form of freedom and liberty. This allows people to have rights and to be able to do
certain things. On the other hand, a duty is an act that has to be done. This is not done
from an individual perspective it is done through obligation and respect to the moral

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dont Send Your Kids To The Ivy
League
Rhetorical Analysis
When people hear the term Ivy League school , they oftentimes think of a prestigious,
high ranked college where extremely intelligent, well rounded individuals go to shape
themselves into an efficient member of society. However, a piece published by William
Deresiewicz called Don t Send Your Kids to the Ivy Leaguedoes exactly the opposite, as
Deresiewicz, a former 8 year Yale professor, criticizes Ivy League schools for being too
constricting and not allowing their students to be themselves and come out to be a
well rounded efficient member of society. Deresiewicz is an award winning essayist
and critic, as well as a frequent college speaker, and the best selling author of the 2014
novel Excellent Sheep, which also criticizes the roles of major Ivy League schools
relating to American society. The main theme of Don t Send Your Kids to the Ivy
League is to convey the message to parents that contrary to popular belief, Ivy League
schools do not always create perfect, well rounded individuals, and Deresiewicz uses
his years of experience at Yale and the years he attended Columbia to back up his claims
that sending away your kids to the Ivy League is not always the best choice.
The purpose of the article is to convince the audience, which is particularly parents in
this case, is that going to the Ivy League, every straight A students dream, may not be
the correct path to take. Deresiewicz uses mainly personal accounts from his time at
either Yale or Columbia and tries to convince the reader that these Ivy League schools
take creative, intelligent young individuals and turns them into an out of touch, entitled
piece of shit (Deresiewicz 201). Also, Deresiewicz uses facts to back up his thinking
that there is a lack of diversity among Ivy League schools, meaning kids of wealthy
families are much more likely to be accepted. He uses strong wording and his own
personal accounts to get his point across that the Ivy League may not be the best choice,
and that students that have the opportunity to go to an Ivy League school should strongly
reconsider.
While the majority of Deresiewicz s argument is based off his own personal experiences
and views, he does
Mobile Phones And Its Effect On Different Levels
Mobile phones use has increase dramatically throughout the past two decades. It is
estimated that the number of worldwide mobile phone subscribers per 100 inhabitants
have jumped from 3 in 1997 to 97 subscribers in 2014 (ITU 2014). While in developed
countries mobile phones have exceeded the number of people (BBC 2007), the growth
rate of subscribers in developing countries is reported to be the largest (BBC 2005).
Mostly due to insufficient landline infrastructure. As a matter of fact, some predicted the
death of the landline due to the takeover of cellular phones as a disruptive technology
(Thompson 2005). Moreover, mobile phones have not only put the landline market under
threat, but also personal computers; it has been indicated that the ratio of search queries
sent from mobile devices to those from personal computers have increased rapidly and
merely between the years 2010 and 2011 (Church et al., 2012). The introduction of the
mobile phone has consequently introduced a number of impacts on different levels.
Namely economical, environmental, human health and human behavior. In this report we
are particularly concerned with the latest. As mobile use expand among groups and by
individuals, the number of features and functionalities within a single handset is also
increasing. And with the introduction of new trends, functionalities and social media,
mobiles use has thus increased, vice versa. The integration of built in cameras, location
services, wireless
Gendered Bathroom Informative Essay
In the past few years alone, the world as a whole has become remarkably aware of the
transgender community. With this have come historic advances in civil rights for
transgender people; however, discrimination continues to be a significant problem. In the
United States, one public issue that has surfaced is public bathroom use; many
individuals are opposed to transgenderpeople s using the gendered bathrooms of their
choice simply because the genders assigned to them at birth are different from their
genderidentities.
This opposition towards the locations in which transgender people take care of basic
human functions has led to the passage of discriminatory legislation (such as North
Carolina s HB 2) that require transgender people to use the gendered public restrooms
that correspond to the genders assigned to them on their birth certificates; it has also
manifested itself in the form of violent hate crime against transgender people in public
bathrooms (Brady, When a Transgender Person Uses a Public Bathroom, Who is at
Risk? ). Ironically, individuals who have opinions about what bathrooms transgender
people should be able to use explain their perspectives by claiming that people could
claim to identify as transgender in order to commit sexual crimes against individuals in a
specific gendered bathroom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the replacement of public bathrooms with such arrays of chamber pots, all
individuals, transgender or not, use the same facilities. The gender neutrality of the
chamber pot system, as mentioned previously, makes transgender people and cisgender
(that is, not transgender) people equal in terms of bathroom access. Not only does it
prevent people from being legally forbidden to enter certain restrooms due to their
transgender status, but it also solves the problem of the scarcity of officially designated

Scheveningen Prison Research Paper
Scheveningen Prison The Scheveningen prison looked somewhat like the Killeavy

Prison because it was used as a seaside resort before the war. It was to denote the
resistance fighters held there, and was named after the Dutch monarchy. Also, the name
orange referred to its royal colors. While the prison was still a hotel, Jewish people
established prayer houses and voluntary organizations. In 1926, When polish Jews settled

If people didn t hold a Dutch nationality, they were forced to leave the coastal regions

Enron In The 1990s
Enron was a business conglomerate during the 1990s, formed by the merger of smaller
oil and energy companies. Houston executives Kenneth Lay (Chairman), Jeffrey Skilling
(chief executive officer (CEO) and Andrew Fastow (chief financial officer (CFO)
parlayed their new mega company into a favorite Wall Street company, bragging of
record profits with negligible losses. During the 1990s, the three senior executives
changed Enronfrom a traditional gas and electricity company into a $150 billion energy
corporation. For instance, from 1998 to 2000 only, Enron s returns rose from
approximately $31 billion to over $100 billion, making the company to be the seventh
biggest conglomerate of the Fortune 500. Unidentified to nearly everybody, this picture
was the result of one of the largest swindles in financial history (Ferrell, Fraedrich
Ferrell, 2013).
One of the key issues presented in the case was the shell game. Not every person knows
this, but prices of stock are based on how flourishing a company appears, not the amount
of money it has in the bank. Enron s top executives, helped by appropriate deregulation of
the power utility industry, spin this dodge into a gold mine. They apparently posted
profits founded on how much a particular business enterprise could generate, not how
much it was essentially worth, and covered losses through offshore shell companies. The
company s accounting firm, Arthur Andersen LLP, was mature and well esteemed; not
even a single person supposed
Citizens Should Not Pay For Healthcare
Citizens Should Not Pay For Health Care
One of the foundations of every just society is the protection of every person s right to
healthcare. This statement underscores the importance of the discourse on whether
working citizens ought to pay for healthcare. The debate has been in the limelight since
the beginning of the 20th century. Successive governments in the United States have over
the years attempted to institute a universal healthcare system for the United States
citizenry, but repeatedly the proposals for a free healthcare system in the country has
been fought and defeated. In light of this information, this paper seeks to answer the
question on why the working citizens in the United States should not pay for healthcare.
The paper draws statistical and empirical information in support of this thesis, as well as
information that those opposed to the idea put forward. In essence, therefore, this
argumentative paper seeks to discredit some of the ideas that the naysayers put forward
in their opposition to the idea of a free healthcare system in the United States while at the
same time providing solid arguments on why working citizens should not pay for
healthcare.
The debate about whether or not the government should pay for healthcare begins
earnestly with the understanding of the constitution. Particularly, the constitution
provides for the inalienable rights to liberty, happiness, and life. Healthcare provision
falls squarely under the right to life and the
Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason
The Transcendental Deductions of the pure concept of the understanding in Immanuel
Kant s Critique of Pure Reason, in its most general sense, explains how concepts relate
a priori to objects in virtue of the fact that the power of knowing an object through
representations is known as understanding. According to Kant, the foundation of all
knowledge is the self, our own consciousness because without the self, experience is not
possible. The purpose of this essay is to lay out Kant s deduction of the pure conceptof
understanding and show how our concepts are not just empirical, but concepts a priori.

understanding, eventually leading up to the conclusion... Show more content on

In order for us to have knowledge, these concepts a priori have to be united, synthesized.
Therefore, in general, we need two concepts for knowledge; synthesis and receptivity.
Synthesis, as mentioned above, is when we use the data we obtained from senses and
unite it together with intuition and receptivity, as defined by Kant can make knowledge
possible only when joined with spontaneity (52). This spontaneity arises from the
threefold synthesis which he lays out for us in the rest of the deduction; the synthesis of
apprehension, the synthesis of reproduction, and the synthesis of recognition. In the first
part of the threefold synthesis, Kant discusses the role of unity of intuitions. Intuition, as
defined before, is a way through which knowledge is formed about the object and through
which we think of the object. Thus, all representations of the object as Kant points out
are subject to time and each representation, for single moment, can never be anything
without absolute unity. Through this idea, the term synthesis of apprehension is refers to
the idea that intuition, although offer something manifold, cannot be enough without
synthesis as the intuition is contained in one representation. Simply stated, it is through
the intuition, which contains a manifold, and this manifold cannot be derived with a
single representation. Kant s argument in this part of
The Osi And Tcp Model
1.Introduction In this report, the OSI and TCP/IP models will be compared after
going through a brief history and how the models were made. The report will bring the
reader a greater understanding about the OSI and TCP model. The model shows the
different layers for example for the OSI model it has the following layers: Application
layer, Presentation layer, Session layer, Transport layer, Network layer, Data Link
layer and Physical layer. The similarities in the TCP model would be: the Application
layer and the Transport layer. This is then compared for the differences to see which

the late 1970 s, two projects started separately, with the same ambitions: to characterize
a unifying standard for the architecture of networking systems. An individual was
administered by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the other
was undertaken by the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee
known as CCITT. In 1983, these two documents were merged to form a criterion
called The Basic Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection. This was too
long to pronounce, so the standard is usually referred to as the Open Systems
Interconnection Reference Model, or more commonly known as the OSI Model. The
OSI model had two major parts: an abstract model of networking, called the Basic
Reference Model or the seven layer model , and a set of precise
Leslie Marmon Silko s The Border Patrol State
Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having
been based in the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in
border security and checkpoints. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was
published in The Nation magazine.
In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the
US Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She
backs these arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few
statistical evidence. As a result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but
weak when it comes to logos and ethos.
Silko s audience seems to be targeted at people who would likely or ... Show more

The next few paragraphs is a retelling of her personal experience with the border patrol.
In the story, she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion.
This creates credibility by establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they
come up to a checkpoint where they are confronted by some border patrol officers.
During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of menace from them liking them to
Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison helps push her argument
on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the oppressive
actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar
experiences to relate or affirm their feelings.
During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal
substances or immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd
which was treated very roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints
the dog as a victim of sorts to the border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an
appeal to emotion, allowing readers to sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought
to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest. During the search she describes the dog as
resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After searching the vehicle, the dog is
made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she and the dog made eye
contact. In that moment,

easily the sanest and most knowledgeable patient in the ward. That is until McMurphy
comes along and stirs everything up. In the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest,
the reader hears Bromden s thoughts and opinions of how terrible the ward and the
people within it. The film adaptation directed by Milos Forman, Forman makes the
choice to focus on the protagonist of the story, Randle McMurphy. Chief Bromden is
hardly present in the film, thus leaving the true characterization of many main characters
underdeveloped. It is difficult for the viewer to truly get a sense of significance for key
events in the film if the narrator of the original story is cut out.
McMurphy enters the novel in the same fashion a cowboy would enter a saloon in the
wild west. Boastful, loud and rough in every way. Every patient is in awe of him,
everyone immediately began to ease up close to see what new sort this fellow is
(Kesey). In the eyes of Bromden, he s labeled an idiot but also a saint for trying to
alleviate what s all the bad things happening in the ward. McMurphy humanizes the
patients, showing them that yes, they are in fact crazy, but not any crazier than the
average asshole on the street (Kesey). In contrast, the film paints McMurphy as an
impulsive criminal who does what he pleases for personal gain. By
Increase In Ontario s Cost of Living Tied to Minimum Wage...
Research Question.
Should increases to Ontario s minimum wage be tied to the cost of living?
Minimum wage is something that maintains the stability of a states economy. Minimum
wage is regulated by the provincial government where the most minor of changes creates
an exponential ripple effect through both local and international economies. A minimum
wage is the wage that is able to provide not only for bare physical needs but also for
preservation of efficiency of workers plus some measure of education, health and other
things. Like it s stated above, minimum wage has ties to many other things other than
income, such as: education, healthcare, economic statuses and stability, worker efficiency
and overall family life. Cost of living is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Refugees According To The 1951 Refugee
Convention
According to the 1951 Refugee Convention, states have the obligation to accept and
protect refugees (REFERENCE). This indicated that so long individuals fit the definition
of refugee status, states are compelled to accept and protect them. Unfortunately, that
does not seem to be the case on a global level. According to international law, more
specifically the 1951 RefugeeConvention, refugees are to be taken in and are to be
provided housing, education, and other services in their host country (REFERENCE).
Beyond the acceptance of refugees, states should also be invested in the integration of
refugees into the host society. In recent history, the humanitarian disasters that have
happened in across the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia have caused the total
upheaval of many lives from living under the protection of the roofs of their homes to
leaving many displaced.
A refugee is defined as someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country
origin, owing to a well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion,
nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion (1951 Refugee
Convention, 3). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 recognizes the right of
persons to seek asylum from persecution in other countries. The United Nations
Convention relating to the Status of Refugees adopted in 1951 is the centerpiece of
international refugee protection today (1951 Refugee Convention, 2). The amount of

The Renaissance Period
The Renaissance started in Italy during the 1300 s before spreading throughout Europe
in the 1500 and 1600 s. It came about because of a change in the way of thinking. In an
effort to learn, people began to want to understand the world around them. This study of
the world and how it works was the start of a new age of science. The people were
curious and questioned the known wisdom of the church. They began to use
experimentation and observation to solve worldly problems . (Johnson). Many
Renaissanceintellects focused on trying to define and understand the laws of nature and
the physical world. During the Renaissance, great advances occurred in science and
technology as well as others areas. Gun powder was invented around 1040.... Show more

The microscope was invented in 1590 in Holland, by Zaharias Janssen and his dad. It
was a compound microscope with two lenses. It was used to view things too tiny to be
seen with the naked eye. The microscope used concave and convex lenses to bend light
and enlarge images. In 1660, Dutch scientist, Anton van Leeuwenhoek was the first to
study bacteria using a microscope. Using the idea of the microscope, Hans Lippershy
of Middleberg decided to invent the telescope in 1608. He thought that if a
microscope could enlarge images too small for the naked eye to see then there must
be a way to enlarge objects too far away to see. He combined two lenses and a tube in a
different way than the microscope. By using convex and concave lenses he was able
to magnify stars and planets. The last major event in astronomy during the Renaissance
is the work of Nicolaus Copernicus. In 1514 he began to explore a new idea that the
Earth revolved around the sun. He spent the rest of his life attempting to prove this.
(Fradin). Galileo continued Copernicus work by observing the skies with a homemade
telescope. Galileo proved, beyond a doubt, that the Earth was not the only center of
motion in the universe (Owen). Although he was able to prove Copernicus correct, his
work was rejected by the Church and he was threatened with torture and death if he did
not recant. Some famous scientist and inventors spent time in jail and were
Alcohol And Hepatocellular Tumor
The liver is the organ responsible for filtering chemicals and metabolizing drugs. It also
makes proteins responsible for blood clotting and other functions. When alcohol reaches
the liver, it produces a dangerous enzyme known as acetaldehyde. The liver needs water
to do its basic functions. Alcohol acts as a diuretic and dehydrates the body, depriving
the liverof the water it needs to function. When acetaldehyde and other alcoholic toxins
build up in the liver, they can cause a variety of health problems.
One of the most commonly known problems of the liver caused by alcohol is
hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer. There are other types of liver
cancers, such as cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile duct, and hepatic
angiosarcoma, a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor. Both of these cancers are not
caused by alcohol abuse. HCC is caused by cirrhosis or other long term damage to the
liver. Cirrhosis is most often caused by alcohol abuse, hemochromatosis, or a hepatitis B
or C infection. Symptoms of HCC include abdominal pain, easy bruising, enlarged
abdomen, jaundiced skin or eyes, and unexplained weight loss. Many tests are ordered to

Alcohol abuse and hepatitis B and C are the most common causes of cirrhosis. Cirrhosis
can cause weakness, loss of appetite, jaundice, itching, and fatigue, and can be diagnosed
by blood tests, physical examinations, and a liver biopsy. There are many complications
of cirrhosis, such as edema and ascites, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, hepatic
encephalopathy, portal vein hypertension, hepatorenal and hepatopulmonary syndrome,
hypersplenism, and liver cancer. One of the most common treatments of cirrhosis is a
liver transplant. However, alcoholics have to be sober for six months to prove that they
are serious about taking care of their new liver and staying sober after the
Conformation to the Supreme Court Essay
The appointment and conformation to the Supreme Court has become on of the most
sought after and most prestigious positions in the U.S. Government. In the past two
hundred years the Supreme Court has changed in many different ways and with each
decision affecting the delicate balance of the U.S. legal system the appointment of
justices has become a very watched over subject. In all conformation and appointment to
the Supreme Court there is politics involved but with each presiding president their
agenda is focused towards appointing a justice that expresses their ideas on the court.

Some justices have even held congressional positions. In 1908 1912 William H. Taft
was president afterward he was appointed to the Court and then was named chief
justice in 1921. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; Before 1936 there was a religious biased
to the court in that all of the justices that were appointed were protestant. When
Andrew Jackson appointed Roger B. Taney a catholic it broke the protestant
preeminence on the court.4 Another misrepresentation to the Supreme Court was the
geographical. In the courts pre civil war history it was assumed that each region
should have representation on the court, meaning that the larger more populous states
like Virginia, New York, and Massachusetts should have a seat on the court. After the
Civil war this tradition faded with the expansion of the United States.2 nbsp; nbsp;

whom served on the court before 1940. The first Justice to be born outside the United

He was an original signer of the Declaration of Independence and a member of the 1787
Constitutional Convention; he was also one of the original members of the Supreme
Court. One of the most important was George Sutherland who came here from England
and became a justice in 1922 and was well known for constantly voting against most of

Pat Tillman Character Traits
Pat Tillman once said, Somewhere inside, we hear a voice. It leads us in the direction
of the person we wish to become. But it is up to us whether or not to follow. This is
the kind of determination, work ethic, and loyalty Pat had. Pat Tillman was born on
November 6, 1976 and later died on April 22, 2004. Pat was very successful weather is
was playing in the NFL or earning the Purple Heart award. Not many people people can
accomplish so much in so little time like Tillman did. Pats determination, work ethic, and
loyalty got him a D1 scholarship, starting position in the NFl, but most importantly the
decision to serve for his country.
When Pat wanted that starting spot, touchdown, or simply a first down he got it, Pat
was determined. Pat showed this trait when he first started getting in the weight room
after he got cut from the varsity baseball team because he wanted a D1 scholarship. He
proved his coach he was determined when it was third down and he told his coach to
give him the ball and he would score, and he did. Pat also showed his determination
when he trained and ran in a marathon just for fun. Pat Tillman always strived for what
he wanted and would always exceed his goals, when he exceeded his goals he pushed
himself to accomplish more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going to the NFL showed how strong Pat s work ethic was. Pat got in the weight room
right away all the time working at his goal to get a football scholarship. When Pat was
drafted into the NFL he wasn t satisfied, they told him he might get to be on special
teams. With Pats hard work and dedication he gained the starting spot for Arizona State.
Getting cut from the baseball team didn t stop Pat, it made him work harder to exceed
his goal and play college football. Tillman was constantly working his hardest for his
teammates, his coaches, and the fans. Pat had a work ethic that no one else could compare
How I Spent Active And Be Outdoors
Since I was a young boy, I ve always loved to stay active and be outdoors. I used to go to
the park almost every day and play with my friends. I enjoyed playing all types of sports,
especially basketball and soccer, and still do today. I joined several sports leagues
throughout my life as well. I played 3 years of soccer, and 5 years of basketball. Even
though it was only club sports, I still played every gamelike it was my last, and always
pushed myself to improve my abilities. Sadly, many of the physical activities I
participated in throughout my life came to an end, when I injured myself. This is an injury
that makes me extremely sad whenever I think about it, because I cannot accomplish
things like I used to, and the fact that my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It swelled up right away, and the pain was unbearable. I walked home, struggling on
the whole way, and was really worried how my mother will react. When I told her she
was furious, but at the same time, felt really bad because she knows how much I
dedicate myself to the sport. She told me to stop playing basketball for the next 3
months and also cut my gym membership. It was one of the worst nights of my life.
Basketball tryouts were 2 weeks away, and I knew I wouldn t be able to tryout. I tried
healing my ankle the fastest way possible, but the process was still too slow. I put ice on
it everyday and rested as much as I could. I was barely able to walk in the beginning, and
even missed a few days of school. Once I could walk, it didn t hurt too badly, but I still
couldn t play basketball. I was really disappointed, but I knew not to give up. I set a
positive mindset for myself and hoped to be healthy for tryouts next year. Once my
ankle healed, I went back to my routine, and played basketball almost every day. I wore
an ankle brace, so it protected my ankle from getting sprained again. My brace
restricted a lot of movement and it was not the same, but I had to wear it for my own
good.
It had been a long twelve months since I sprained my ankle. It was junior year and
tryouts were approaching. I started practicing everyday and my ankle felt great again. I
still wore an ankle brace out of my fear of getting injured again, and especially when

Kiss Of Judas Analysis

1.According to Stokstad and Cothren, this piece is titled Kiss of Judas . I also found
out from reading the book that this painting is 6 feet 6 and Вѕ inches by 6 feet and 7/8
inches. This piece is located on the south wall of the Scrovengi chapel in Padua, Italy.
The duration which this piece was created during is from 1304 to 1306. The medium
used for Kiss of Judas was fresco.
2.I managed to count 20 faces, including Jesus, Judas, and Peter, though there seems to
be more than twice that number of heads. There are 19 objects being wielded higher
than the heads of the people, including 2 torches, a staff, a horn, and an assortment of
what looks like spears and swords. Each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Kiss of Judas is Giotto Di Bondone s take on the betrayal of Jesus Christ by the lips of
Judas, what I know as the Kiss of Death. Most people can clearly recognize this act at a
glance, but taking a deeper look reveals a bit more. The meaning of this painting is
expressed through the faces on the people in the piece and the actions they are
partaking in. Everyone s face is very bitterly upset and enraged, wielding weapons of
destruction with intent to use them while surrounded by the absolute calamity of the
mob in the background. Then, there is Jesus and His calm, accepting face as He
knows what is happening must be done. He had been aware that this was coming, and
His face shows it. Judas also was aware this was to be done, his face full of sorrow.
Previous to this act of betrayal, Judas had sworn to Jesus he would do no evil to him
three separate times. This makes his act of betrayal more of an eye opener, allowing
Judas to reveal to himself the liar that he had allowed himself to become, and the
viewer can really feel that emotion as visually portrayed in Kiss if Judas. The
frustration of Jesus followers is also seen through Giotto s choice of having Joseph cut
the ear off of the man in the same frame as the kiss given by Judas. By being a follower
of Christ, Joseph should be practicing patience and forgiveness, not violence. Giotto
manages to beautifully depict just what the people in his piece must have been feeling in
this turning point in each of their
The Persuasive Techniques Used In Bowling for Columbine .
The movie Bowling for Columbine was made after the shooting in Columbine high
school and tries to explore the reasons for America s violent nature. Moore believes
that there is one main reason for this, the fact that there are relaxed gun laws in
America. Therefore, Moore uses a number of different persuasive techniques in order to
try and persuade the viewer to believe that this is the case. He uses certain visuals,
music, sequences the scenes in a specific order and uses facts and opinions to achieve
this. The first scene that shows persuasive techniques is The Wonderful World sequence.
In this sequence, it shows horrible images of dead people, with various facts and figures
shown at the bottom of the screen. In the background, the... Show more content on

Furthermore, the fact that the audio dovetails with the images seen on screen is also a
persuasive technique. Where Noriega throws flowers out to the crowd, the
corresponding words in the song are; I love You . By using sarcasm and dovetailing it
with the music, a powerful persuasive technique is effective. The use of facts and
statistics is also a persuasive technique; UN estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from
bombing and sanctions . Facts are a very powerful persuasive technique as there is no
room for argument. If opinion was used, for example, by Michael Moore, then the
viewer may not trust what he is saying as it is his viewpoint. However, as it is a fact, it
is true and cannot be argued with. Furthermore, the fact that the source of the fact is
from the UN, means that it is more persuasive as the UN is a trusted organisation and
would not state any misleading facts. The facts displayed at the bottom of the screen
are displayed in a crude militaristic font. From this, the viewer gets the impression that
killing is part of the US government s agenda, thus detracting from the viewer s trust in
them. The viewers are made even more cynical of the government when they describe
an aspirin factory as a weapons factory . The use of the inverted commas gives the
caption a sarcastic tone, helps make the reader more aware of how the government has
made too many costly mistakes and makes them seem obtuse. By using facts and
statistics, it means that they are true and
Ascorbic Iodine Experiment
Two beakers were labeled ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and iodine (I2). About 75.0 mL of
standard ascorbic acid solution was measured in a graduated cylinder. It was then placed
in the beaker labeled ascorbic solution. About 100.0 mL of iodine solution was measured
using a graduated cylinder. The measured solution was then placed in the beaker labeled
iodine. From the iodine previously gathered, about 55.0 mL was measured and placed
into the burette. All of the solution did not fit into the burette. The burette was filled
until the iodine solution was at the 0.0 mL mark. A table chart was created to record all
the data collected during the experiment. The first data table was labeled standardized
data. Only one column was needed. It was labeled run one. The rows on the table were
labeled final burette volume, initial burette volume, mL of iodine solution, mg of
ascorbic acidin solution, and mg ascorbic acidin solution over mL of iodine solution.
This data chart was used throughout the experiment. After the table was created, the
initial burette volume was recorded as 0.21 mL. A 125 mL flask was then filled with
25.0 mL of the ascorbic acid solution from the beaker labeled ascorbic acid. 10 drops of
1% starch indicator was added to the ascorbic acid inside the flask. The two solutions
were then mixed together by swirling the flask. The solution within the flask was a clear
liquid. The flask was placed under the burette containing the iodine solution. Small

What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human

pollute water sources however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were

their presence in water indicates the presence of other more dangerous bacteria, it is this
more dangerous bacteria that causes water borne diseases such as cholera or typhoid
which is deadly. (Washington State... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Article Analysis:
The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business
topic of marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of
2008. Traces of faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about
the Starbucks franchise is that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for
the well being of its consumers. According to the CPA, which is a legal document that
protects the rights of consumers, Consumers have the right to fair value, good quality
and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the scandal in the article is an
infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of poor quality and
had the potential to make customers very sick.
The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an
infringement, that particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close
surveillance and have spontaneous checks from the food industry regulators from the
UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will always be feeling on edge.
In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms
of minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand
exposed, but it was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce
consumer confidence because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced
The Various Types Of Police Community Approaches
Abstract
The topic of this research is on the types of police community approaches law
enforcement use to respond to the community and crime. The question presented in this
research is What are the various types of police community approaches? and is based on
the findings from the year 2006 to 2016. During the process of this research, no
participants were used, and instead, published statistics from online websites were used
such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) 2013 Law Enforcement Management and
Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) survey, the Inter University Consortium for Political

There has been little involvement of the community with law enforcement, making it
difficult to work with and to understand the community. However, in order to involve the
community with law enforcement, a trust and mutual respect between law enforcement
and the community must be built. Thus, law enforcement have responded through the
use of various types of police community approaches to gain the trust and respect.
This research examines police community approaches that have been used since by law
enforcement in the United States. This research hopes to show the various types of
methods law enforcement use to connect with the community it serves. It also hopes to
provide clear insight on the various types of police community approaches for those who
are unfamiliar with the topic. The research begins with the literature review that
examines the strategy, impact, trustworthiness, and correlation between police and the
community. It is then followed by the methods used, such as published statistics,
secondary data, and findings based on the literature review, to accomplish this trend study
and concludes with final comments on police community approaches.
Literature Review
For the purpose of this research paper and methods, the Community Oriented Policing
Services (COPS) Office s definition of police community approaches or community
policing is used. The COPS Office defines police community approaches as the police and
communities collaborating
Fannie Lou Hamer Under The Influence
Section 2)
1) Using Fannie Lou Hamer s speech before the credentials committee as an example,
write a paragraph explaining how hearing a speech (rather than simply reading a
transcript) can alter one s experience with a text.
Hearing a speech rather than reading it can alter one s experience with the text
because in the text there are no emotions attached. Even when the transcriber tries best
to write word for word it is not possible to hear the emotions in the voice in words. In
Fannie Lou Hamer s, she was telling a story and the reader cannot understand the
emotions and also the way that she has said the words, a stutter or a pause is not
mentioned in the transcribed words. In my opinion it is always best to hear than read the
transcribed words.
In the speech, her voice went low and high and the pitch of her voice was not seen in
the writing. Listening to the speech can show emotions, sound, and also many important
pauses a person may take to emphasize a point. In my opinion, I would understand the
speech more if I heard it than if I read it because it will have many sound clues that I
would miss just reading.
2)Referring specifically to themes in Scott Russell Sanders Under the Influence,

A Short Note On The And Its Effects On The World s Mini...
I began popping pills when I was thirteen. Anything and everything I could get my
hands on. My friends and I would meet before school, taking various containers out of
our bags. Mine was a Wrigley s Doublemint Gum tin. We would open them up,
displaying pills of various shapes, colors, and sizes. We had our own mini pharmacy
with it s own barter system of sorts. A few anti depressants for an Adderall, or a muscle
relaxer for a Klonopin. Half of them we didn t even know what they were. We all could
get different stuff, so together we had a rainbow of pharmaceuticals.
My favorite however, was Effexor. My grandmother had them for depression
associated with bipolar disorder, but she never took them. It was easy to swipe the
bottle. The pills were these bright orange capsules, with little white beads inside. It felt
like a maraca as they slid down my throat. Over time, taking one, became taking four at
a time. After taking them I would experience severe stomach cramps, nausea, dizziness,
and migraines. My friends were popping pills for fun, but I was taking them to suffer. I
wanted so badly to forget about the emotional pain I was going through, I wanted to
feel physically how I felt mentally everyday. If I hurt, that s all I could focus on,
everything else disappeared. All the self doubt and self hate vanished. I just wanted a
moment of peace inside my brain. It was June 23rd, 2012, the summer before my
freshman year, when I decided once and for all, my best course of action

Belle Cora (1827? 1862), also known as Arabella Ryan, was a successful Madam of
the Barbary Coast during the mid nineteenth century.[1] She rose to public attention in
1855 when her lover, Charles Cora, killed US Marshall William H. Richardson. The
fight between Charles and Richardson started at the American Theatre.[2] Richardson s
wife complained that Belle Cora, a well known parlor house owner, and Charles Cora, a

more respectable guests.[4] As a result, Richardson went to ask the manager of the

  • 2. West Transformation In The Late Nineteenth Century 3. How and why was the West transformed in the late nineteenth century? How did these changes affect the people living in the West? How did the changes in the West transform America? In the late nineteenth century, the rise of an industrial America took the country by storm. New innovations, and the development of steel manufacturing, petroleum refining, and the expansion of railroads, changed the nation s economy and the lifestyle of the people. The names of Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan became widely known. This industrial boom introduced a new class of wealthy industrialist and a well off middle class. Unfortunately, farmers began to struggle immensely during this time; the prices for farm produce began to fall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, the stock market crash triggered this event, however the vastly poor distribution of wealth, the wages of industrial workers, and the profitless work of farmers all added up to this downfall. In addition, high tariffs set by the U.S. made it difficult for foreign nations to sell goods to them and to buy goods in return. And to make things better, banks were failing and in result wiping out life savings of hundreds of people. The last straw was drawn when the stock market hesitated and investors began to sell their stocks for fear of what could happen. Brokers jammed the stocks as they attempted to unload shares. This grave dip became a panic that would be known as black Thursday. The following Tuesday all stocks had lost six sevenths of their value, and it would be appropriately called black Tuesday. With thousands of people s life savings gone overnight, the economy suffered immensely. Due to the lack of money people began to stop buying goods. To make up for the lack of revenue, businesses laid off countless workers to decrease the price of their outputs. This only furthered the issue into a never ending cycle. People now without jobs could not afford goods, and businesses continued to lay off its workers to stay profitable. Millions of Americans lived in poverty at this time, many unable to buy the
  • 3. Essay on The Road of Joseph Ratzinger t Pope Ementus Benedict The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and the leader of the Catholic Church. This is something that started right after the death of Jesus. When Jesus resurrected, he said to St. Peter, Feed my lambs.... Tend my sheep.... Feed my sheep. This command given to Peter made him the head of the apostles, henceforth, making him the first Pope. Peter would rule for approximately 34 years, and when he died he was succeeded by St. Linus. The tradition of serving as Pope until death was started by Peter and has been carried on for centuries. Since Peter, there have been 264 Popes and very few have not stayed in power until their death. Most recently, and most commonly known, is Pope Benedict XVI. This marked the end of his time as a Nazi solider. When asked about his time as a Nazi Solider in an interview, he answered by saying, The holocaust was a dark time in my life; one that continues to haunt me. On June 29, 1951, Joseph Ratzinger was ordained a priest. During his time as a priest, Ratzinger spent most of his time teaching. He taught dogma and fundamental theology at Freising College, and was later given a chair position in the subject of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Tubingen. Joseph moved through the hierarchy rather quickly. Just eight years after being ordained, he was named the chief theological expert to Cardinal Joseph Frings during the second Vatican Council, held on January 25, 1959. 1977 was a huge year for Joseph Ratzinger. In March, he was named archbishop of Munich and Freising, and in June, he was officially confirmed a cardinal by Pope Paul VI. Ratzinger was part of the College of Cardinals. This is a group of Cardinals that assist the Pope in making decisions about the Church. In 1998, he was elected as vice dean of the college, and by 2002, he was elected the dean. Ratzinger s ability to move up the hierarchy quickly made him the prime choice when it came time to pick a new pope in 2005. After the death of John Paul II, the Catholic Church needed to elect a new Pope. On April 19, 2005,

  • 7. An Buyer Owner Of The Land Heidi Heidi does not have a legal interest in Whitegates as Alex is the sole owner of the land. What must be established is whether she has an equitable interest in Whitegates that will bind the purchaser Molly. The express creation of a trust is not the only method to create a trust. Trusts can be created by the action of the landowner or by third parties. Heidi acquires an equitable interest in the land under implied trust due to the deposit she made when Alex purchased the property (Williams Glynn Bank v Boland (1981) AC 487). When this happens no formalities are imposed such as registration of the interest (S. 53(2) Law of property Act 1925). Having established that Heidi has an equitable interest in the property it must be determined how this interest affects Molly s purchase of the property. The Land Registration Act 2002 established three categories of third party interests. One of these categories covers unregistered interests in land which are capable of overriding registered dispositions such as the purchase of freehold. Heidi s circumstance would be relevant to this category as her interest is unregistered. In order to establish whether Heidi has an overriding interest in the property schedule three paragraph 2 of the Land Registration Act 2002 must be satisfied. Firstly there must be interest in the land. Heidi s equitable interest has been established by her contribution to the purchase of the property. Secondly, Heidi must be in actual occupation

For example, being honest to an individual will generate happiness. 5. Contrast a right with a duty and a right with a privilege. A right is a form of freedom and liberty. Rhetorical Analysis Of Dont Send Your Kids To The Ivy League Rhetorical Analysis When people hear the term Ivy League school , they oftentimes think of a prestigious, high ranked college where extremely intelligent, well rounded individuals go to shape themselves into an efficient member of society. However, a piece published by William Deresiewicz called Don t Send Your Kids to the Ivy Leaguedoes exactly the opposite, as Deresiewicz, a former 8 year Yale professor, criticizes Ivy League schools for being too constricting and not allowing their students to be themselves and come out to be a well rounded efficient member of society. Deresiewicz is an award winning essayist and critic, as well as a frequent college speaker, and the best selling author of the 2014 novel Excellent Sheep, which also criticizes the roles of major Ivy League schools relating to American society. The main theme of Don t Send Your Kids to the Ivy League is to convey the message to parents that contrary to popular belief, Ivy League schools do not always create perfect, well rounded individuals, and Deresiewicz uses his years of experience at Yale and the years he attended Columbia to back up his claims that sending away your kids to the Ivy League is not always the best choice. The purpose of the article is to convince the audience, which is particularly parents in this case, is that going to the Ivy League, every straight A students dream, may not be the correct path to take. Deresiewicz uses mainly personal accounts from his time at either Yale or Columbia and tries to convince the reader that these Ivy League schools take creative, intelligent young individuals and turns them into an out of touch, entitled piece of shit (Deresiewicz 201). Also, Deresiewicz uses facts to back up his thinking that there is a lack of diversity among Ivy League schools, meaning kids of wealthy families are much more likely to be accepted. He uses strong wording and his own personal accounts to get his point across that the Ivy League may not be the best choice, and that students that have the opportunity to go to an Ivy League school should strongly reconsider. While the majority of Deresiewicz s argument is based off his own personal experiences and views, he does

While in developed countries mobile phones have exceeded the number of people (BBC 2007), the growth rate of subscribers in developing countries is reported to be the largest (BBC 2005). Mostly due to insufficient landline infrastructure. As a matter of fact, some predicted the death of the landline due to the takeover of cellular phones as a disruptive technology (Thompson 2005). With this have come historic advances in civil rights for transgender people; however, discrimination continues to be a significant problem. In the United States, one public issue that has surfaced is public bathroom use; many individuals are opposed to transgenderpeople s using the gendered bathrooms of their choice simply because the genders assigned to them at birth are different from their genderidentities. This opposition towards the locations in which transgender people take care of basic human functions has led to the passage of discriminatory legislation (such as North Carolina s HB 2) that require transgender people to use the gendered public restrooms that correspond to the genders assigned to them on their birth certificates; it has also manifested itself in the form of violent hate crime against transgender people in public bathrooms (Brady, When a Transgender Person Uses a Public Bathroom, Who is at Risk? ). During the 1990s, the three senior executives changed Enronfrom a traditional gas and electricity company into a $150 billion energy corporation. For instance, from 1998 to 2000 only, Enron s returns rose from approximately $31 billion to over $100 billion, making the company to be the seventh biggest conglomerate of the Fortune 500. This statement underscores the importance of the discourse on whether working citizens ought to pay for healthcare. The debate has been in the limelight since the beginning of the 20th century. Successive governments in the United States have over the years attempted to institute a universal healthcare system for the United States citizenry, but repeatedly the proposals for a free healthcare system in the country has been fought and defeated. In light of this information, this paper seeks to answer the question on why the working citizens in the United States should not pay for healthcare. The paper draws statistical and empirical information in support of this thesis, as well as information that those opposed to the idea put forward. In essence, therefore, this argumentative paper seeks to discredit some of the ideas that the naysayers put forward in their opposition to the idea of a free healthcare system in the United States while at the same time providing solid arguments on why working citizens should not pay for healthcare. The debate about whether or not the government should pay for healthcare begins earnestly with the understanding of the constitution. Particularly, the constitution provides for the inalienable rights to liberty, happiness, and life. Healthcare provision falls squarely under the right to life and the

According to Kant, the foundation of all knowledge is the self, our own consciousness because without the self, experience is not possible. In order for us to have knowledge, these concepts a priori have to be united, synthesized. Therefore, in general, we need two concepts for knowledge; synthesis and receptivity. Synthesis, as mentioned above, is when we use the data we obtained from senses and unite it together with intuition and receptivity, as defined by Kant can make knowledge possible only when joined with spontaneity (52). This spontaneity arises from the threefold synthesis which he lays out for us in the rest of the deduction; the synthesis of apprehension, the synthesis of reproduction, and the synthesis of recognition. In the first part of the threefold synthesis, Kant discusses the role of unity of intuitions. Intuition, as defined before, is a way through which knowledge is formed about the object and through which we think of the object. Thus, all representations of the object as Kant points out are subject to time and each representation, for single moment, can never be anything without absolute unity. Through this idea, the term synthesis of apprehension is refers to the idea that intuition, although offer something manifold, cannot be enough without synthesis as the intuition is contained in one representation. Simply stated, it is through the intuition, which contains a manifold, and this manifold cannot be derived with a single representation. Kant s argument in this part of

At some point, they come up to a checkpoint where they are confronted by some border patrol officers. During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of menace from them liking them to Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison helps push her argument on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the oppressive actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar experiences to relate or affirm their feelings. During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd which was treated very roughly by the border patrol officers. The dog is first brought to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest. During the search she describes the dog as resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After searching the vehicle, the dog is made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she and the dog made eye contact. In that moment,

Chief Bromden watches quietly, he knows all the ins and outs of his prison. He is easily the sanest and most knowledgeable patient in the ward. That is until McMurphy comes along and stirs everything up. In the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, the reader hears Bromden s thoughts and opinions of how terrible the ward and the people within it. The film adaptation directed by Milos Forman, Forman makes the choice to focus on the protagonist of the story, Randle McMurphy. Chief Bromden is hardly present in the film, thus leaving the true characterization of many main characters underdeveloped. It is difficult for the viewer to truly get a sense of significance for key events in the film if the narrator of the original story is cut out. McMurphy enters the novel in the same fashion a cowboy would enter a saloon in the wild west. Boastful, loud and rough in every way. Every patient is in awe of him, everyone immediately began to ease up close to see what new sort this fellow is (Kesey). In the eyes of Bromden, he s labeled an idiot but also a saint for trying to alleviate what s all the bad things happening in the ward. McMurphy humanizes the patients, showing them that yes, they are in fact crazy, but not any crazier than the average asshole on the street (Kesey). In contrast, the film paints McMurphy as an impulsive criminal who does what he pleases for personal gain. By

Then, there is Jesus and His calm, accepting face as He knows what is happening must be done. He had been aware that this was coming, and His face shows it. Judas also was aware this was to be done, his face full of sorrow. Previous to this act of betrayal, Judas had sworn to Jesus he would do no evil to him three separate times. This makes his act of betrayal more of an eye opener, allowing Judas to reveal to himself the liar that he had allowed himself to become, and the viewer can really feel that emotion as visually portrayed in Kiss if Judas. The frustration of Jesus followers is also seen through Giotto s choice of having Joseph cut the ear off of the man in the same frame as the kiss given by Judas. By being a follower of Christ, Joseph should be practicing patience and forgiveness, not violence. Giotto manages to beautifully depict just what the people in his piece must have been feeling in this turning point in each of their
  • 29. The Persuasive Techniques Used In Bowling for Columbine . The movie Bowling for Columbine was made after the shooting in Columbine high school and tries to explore the reasons for America s violent nature. Moore believes that there is one main reason for this, the fact that there are relaxed gun laws in America. Therefore, Moore uses a number of different persuasive techniques in order to try and persuade the viewer to believe that this is the case. He uses certain visuals, music, sequences the scenes in a specific order and uses facts and opinions to achieve this. The first scene that shows persuasive techniques is The Wonderful World sequence. In this sequence, it shows horrible images of dead people, with various facts and figures shown at the bottom of the screen. In the background, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the fact that the audio dovetails with the images seen on screen is also a persuasive technique. Where Noriega throws flowers out to the crowd, the corresponding words in the song are; I love You . By using sarcasm and dovetailing it with the music, a powerful persuasive technique is effective. The use of facts and statistics is also a persuasive technique; UN estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from bombing and sanctions . Facts are a very powerful persuasive technique as there is no room for argument. If opinion was used, for example, by Michael Moore, then the viewer may not trust what he is saying as it is his viewpoint. However, as it is a fact, it is true and cannot be argued with. Furthermore, the fact that the source of the fact is from the UN, means that it is more persuasive as the UN is a trusted organisation and would not state any misleading facts. The facts displayed at the bottom of the screen are displayed in a crude militaristic font. From this, the viewer gets the impression that killing is part of the US government s agenda, thus detracting from the viewer s trust in them. The viewers are made even more cynical of the government when they describe an aspirin factory as a weapons factory . The use of the inverted commas gives the caption a sarcastic tone, helps make the reader more aware of how the government has made too many costly mistakes and makes them seem obtuse. By using facts and statistics, it means that they are true and

It was then placed in the beaker labeled ascorbic solution. About 100.0 mL of iodine solution was measured using a graduated cylinder. The measured solution was then placed in the beaker labeled iodine. From the iodine previously gathered, about 55.0 mL was measured and placed into the burette. All of the solution did not fit into the burette. The burette was filled until the iodine solution was at the 0.0 mL mark. A table chart was created to record all the data collected during the experiment. The first data table was labeled standardized data. Only one column was needed. It was labeled run one. The rows on the table were labeled final burette volume, initial burette volume, mL of iodine solution, mg of ascorbic acidin solution, and mg ascorbic acidin solution over mL of iodine solution. This data chart was used throughout the experiment. After the table was created, the initial burette volume was recorded as 0.21 mL. A 125 mL flask was then filled with 25.0 mL of the ascorbic acid solution from the beaker labeled ascorbic acid. 10 drops of 1% starch indicator was added to the ascorbic acid inside the flask. The two solutions were then mixed together by swirling the flask. The solution within the flask was a clear liquid. The flask was placed under the burette containing the iodine solution. Small amounts of the

(Rainy, 2017) Article Analysis: The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well being of its consumers. According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, Consumers have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick. The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will always be feeling on edge. In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

Fannie Lou Hamer Under The Influence Section 2) 1) Using Fannie Lou Hamer s speech before the credentials committee as an example, write a paragraph explaining how hearing a speech (rather than simply reading a transcript) can alter one s experience with a text. Hearing a speech rather than reading it can alter one s experience with the text because in the text there are no emotions attached. Even when the transcriber tries best to write word for word it is not possible to hear the emotions in the voice in words. In Fannie Lou Hamer s, she was telling a story and the reader cannot understand the emotions and also the way that she has said the words, a stutter or a pause is not mentioned in the transcribed words. In my opinion it is always best to hear than read the transcribed words. In the speech, her voice went low and high and the pitch of her voice was not seen in the writing. Listening to the speech can show emotions, sound, and also many important pauses a person may take to emphasize a point. In my opinion, I would understand the speech more if I heard it than if I read it because it will have many sound clues that I would miss just reading. 2)Referring specifically to themes in Scott Russell Sanders Under the Influence, consider in what ways he asks us to reconsider how we might view alcoholics and families of alcoholics. • 34. A Short Note On The And Its Effects On The World s Mini... I began popping pills when I was thirteen. Anything and everything I could get my hands on. My friends and I would meet before school, taking various containers out of our bags. Mine was a Wrigley s Doublemint Gum tin. We would open them up, displaying pills of various shapes, colors, and sizes. We had our own mini pharmacy with it s own barter system of sorts. A few anti depressants for an Adderall, or a muscle relaxer for a Klonopin. Half of them we didn t even know what they were. We all could get different stuff, so together we had a rainbow of pharmaceuticals. My favorite however, was Effexor. My grandmother had them for depression associated with bipolar disorder, but she never took them. It was easy to swipe the bottle. The pills were these bright orange capsules, with little white beads inside. It felt like a maraca as they slid down my throat. Over time, taking one, became taking four at a time. After taking them I would experience severe stomach cramps, nausea, dizziness, and migraines. My friends were popping pills for fun, but I was taking them to suffer. I wanted so badly to forget about the emotional pain I was going through, I wanted to feel physically how I felt mentally everyday. If I hurt, that s all I could focus on, everything else disappeared. All the self doubt and self hate vanished. I just wanted a moment of peace inside my brain. It was June 23rd, 2012, the summer before my freshman year, when I decided once and for all, my best course of action

Belle Cora Research Paper Belle Cora (1827? 1862), also known as Arabella Ryan, was a successful Madam of the Barbary Coast during the mid nineteenth century.[1] She rose to public attention in 1855 when her lover, Charles Cora, killed US Marshall William H. Richardson. The fight between Charles and Richardson started at the American Theatre.[2] Richardson s wife complained that Belle Cora, a well known parlor house owner, and Charles Cora, a frequent gambler were seated in the same balcony as her.[3] She stated that they should be in the general admission pit seats rather than the more expensive areas reserved for more respectable guests.[4] As a result, Richardson went to ask the manager of the theatre to remove the couple, but the manager refused saying that they...
