Guilt In To Kill A Mockingbird
In today s world racism is not common as it was in the 1900 s. In the early 1900 s racism was
very common, and most of the white Americans were racist to the Minorities. Although racism
was common in the 1900 s it is now frowned upon and not very common at all. Minorities are
now not rejected in today s world, and are accepted like any other person. Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird shows that guilt can be unfairly determined based on racial discrimination.
In this novel many people assume someone is guilty because of their nationality before they take

that in public. Dolphus Raymond came up them seeing Dill looking pale he gave him a sip of
what was in the sack and it was Coca Cola. Dolphus Raymond doesn t care for the trashy people

A Brief Biography On The State Of Education
A Brief Biography It is interesting to note that one of the most influential educators and
researchers of all time was rejected for a professorship position because she was a woman and
because she was overqualified (Fraenkel). Much to the benefit of present day curriculum
development, the job rejection landed her in a series of positions that would eventually lead to her
work with the U.S. Office of Education. Described as a short, squat, and spunky woman, Hilda
Taba was notorious for her matter of fact, no nonsense approach in dealing with people (Krull,
481). Born in Estonia, in 1902, she received a German education, and then went on to study in the
United States. The combination and the contrast of her two educations would later play an integral
role in the formation of her curriculum ideals. Furthermore, her background in science contributed
greatly to her scientific model of curriculum development (Hayes, 15). Taba worked closely with
some of the most influential curriculum researchers and theorist of the 21st Century, including
Benjamin Bloom, Ralph Tyler and John Dewey (Costa, Loveall, 57). In fact, many historical
surveys regarding leaders of curriculum development and progressive education commonly refer to
Taba as a disciple of Dewey.
Learning and Curriculum Over the course of her career, Taba developed many theories regarding
learning. In her seminal book, Curriculum Development Theory and Practice (1962), Taba defined
knowledge and classified it into three

The Competitive Landscape Of The Quick Service Restaurant
The Competitive Landscape Companies in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry
compete mainly on efficient operations and effective marketing. Usually, large companies enjoy
advantages over small companies in terms of purchasing, finance, and marketing. But small
companies can still compete by improving their products and services. The US is the global
QSR market leader, taking 20% of global industry revenues (Hoovers). According to Porter, an
industry has to have sustainable profits for firms to foresee in order to make firms profitable and
successful (Porter, 3). However, according to our research the QSR industry is in danger of
reaching unsustainable profit margins if industry leaders fail to adapt their business practices to
this volatile market. The dining culture has changed over the years as people have become more
aware of healthy eating lifestyle. This trend is expected to continuously dictate future market
demand. Another factor to determine a company s success mentioned by Porter s is industry
positioning (Porter, 1985). The position in the industry is crucial for companies who have
empathies for their customers health. Many of them are not dominant firms in QSR industry and
some of them are emerging in the industry. They need to find the exquisite balance in terms of
market positioning to incept their success. Porter s Five Forces Porter s five forces will have a

Applying A Stress Management Schedule
With the intention of managing stress, I decided to implement a stress management schedule,
which I would continually develop, over the course of 11 weeks. With a focus on yoga, I hoped
to gain an important insight on the valuable implications that proper stress management can have
in my life. Improving my physical and emotional health can not only positively affect my own
self, but also can positively affect the way I manage my own work life and relationships with
others. Since being in college, I have felt as if I could not properly manage my daily tasks, while
also taking time to myself. I constantly became stressed and anxious, with no sense of outlet. I
decided to incorporate a stressmanagementtactic into my daily routine. As David Surrenda, dean
of the Graduate School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University in California,
described yoga in the International New York Times, as a, spiritual development practice to
train the body and mind to self observe and become aware of their own nature. He later went on
to describe how yoga affects each person by cultivating discernment, awareness, self regulation
and higher consciousness, positively affecting multiple aspects of a persons life. Because of these
reasons, I decided yoga could be the right fit for my personal development plan of managing
stress. After choosing yoga as my concentration, I conducted research on different types and
positions out there to preform. Yoga was a way, for me, to work on

The Virgin Suicides Essay
It is difficult for many to comprehend the reason(s) for which a person chooses to take their own
life, and especially enigmatic for the friends and family of the now deceased to continue living
their lives with the stress from unanswered questions of what they could have done to prevent the
act, what they regret in doing or saying, and how to adjust their lives accordingly with the absence
of a person that some never considered losing even a remote reality. In the case of the film The
Virgin Suicides, directed by Sofia Coppola, suicidestrikes the Lisbon s suburban Detroit home

Will Hunting Is A Year Old Orphan
Will Hunting is a 20 year old orphan. He lives in a small apartment in Southie and has been
working as a janitor at M.I.T under the supervision of the Parole Employment Program. As a
child, Will was constantly in and out of foster homes due to the physical abuse by three different
foster fathers since adolescence and has a history of assault, grand theft, resisting arrest,
mayhem, impersonating an officer. As an effect of this abuse Will blames himself for his
unhappy childhood and turns his anger issues into a form of self sabotage in both his
professional and emotional lives. Hence why he is unable to maintain either a steady job or
romantic relationship. He always wore slacks, and t shirt to all his therapy sessions, but his
clothes appear to be clean. Will Hunting had anger issues and was very oppositional to authority
figures. He also had abandonment issues. He was arrested for fighting and beating up another
young man who he went to kindergarten with. At his court appearance, he was mandated to
attend therapy twice a week and also required to report to Professor Lambeau once a week. He
saw five therapists with whom he failed to connect, prior to seeing Sean Maguire. He terminated
himself from some of his previous therapy sessions. Two of his therapists walked out on him.
Will accused his first therapist of being gay and played his second therapy by pretending to be
hypnotized. He was institutionalized for most of his childhood years. He spoke of his three close

Essay on Guns in the Cockpit
Guns in the Cockpit
On the morning of September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked and two of them, brought the
collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. As a result of these attacks on the
United States, airports have come to the realization that the only way to prevent another hijacking
is by strengthening the security on aircrafts through the cockpit. In order to secure the cockpit and
ensure the safety of the passengers on board, guns were introduced as a possible solution in the
event of an emergency situation like those that took place in September of 2001.
The Transportation Security Administration head John Magaw, announced the administrations
position that they are against guns in cockpits and a pilot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When the craft was in the air, the terrorists took the initiative and stormed into the cockpit and
took over the controls, turning the aircraft into a guided missile (CBS 1). Increasing security
immediately became an important aspect of airports shortly there after. Adequate security
ensures the safety of the people in the air and citizens on the ground below. It is expected by
passengers, that they are boarding a craft that will land safely at their intended destination. An
aircraft should be a safe place for everyone and even though every person that enters the airport
goes through the required security checkpoints, there is a small fraction of error. Someone will
get by with a potential weapon and board the plane along with it; therefore, the captains should
have some form of a rear view mirror (Press 2). One of the many proposals made since the attacks
is installing video cameras in the cabin to monitor passenger activity for any possible terrorist
actions. A pilot should be aware of what is happening to the plane and the passengers on board at
all times.
In a situation where someone is trying to hijack an airplane, there are three factors needed to be
assessed. Does the terrorist have a weapon, are they attacking alone, and is he or she a trained
fighter in the case of a Federal Air Marshal interfering (APSA 2)? In the incident of the World
Trade Center attacks, the

Modern Times And City Lights Essay
The role of women in Modern Times and City Lights is compelling compared to the roles of men
in the films. Chaplin uses women as a set piece to set up jokes for him and other male characters,
and drops little sexist aspects into what is the larger body of the two films. Chaplin uses women
to diversify the types of jokes he can use and the aspect of a womancharacter in the filmcan alter
what he does, where he can go, and it modifies the tramps moods throughout the films In both of
the films we watched Chaplin uses the aspect of women to set up the tramps jokes. In Modern
Times Chaplin embraces the aspect of women being the second lead character, after the tramp, and
sets up most of the movie around her. However, we do not see the girl... Show more content on

In the film, Chaplin also puts the blind girl and her grandmother in a place where they are
struggling to pay the bills. Even though the tramp is the tramp and poor as well he gets the
money from the rich man. This could be viewed as a sexist little bit of the movie as the women
can t pay the rent because she doesn t make enough money to support them and then a man
comes in and saves the day even though the man is in a much more dire situation than the two
girls. Through all of that we still never see how it turns out between the two. After the woman
gets the surgery and finally sees the tramp for who he really is we see her wondering what to do
next. Before we get to that moment we see the woman eyeing all of the men that are wearing nice
clothes and appear wealthy, and doesn t know what to do when the poor tramp reveals that it is
him who gave her that money. This could be interpreted as woman are attracted to money and don t
really care what s in your heart.
The main woman in Modern Times is opposite of the woman in City Lights. Just like the Tramp
she gets into trouble and is poor just like him. Compared to the other movie it seems like this girl
is a much better fit for the tramps character than the woman in City Lights. This girl sparks scenes,
jokes, and opportunities for the tramp while the other woman was mainly just a romantic set piece.
However, he still uses women as set

Abigail Adams Letter Analysis
Abigail Adams, in her letter, introduces advice and caution to her son, John Quincy Adams
while he is on a trip to France with his father. Adams purpose is to allow her son to know what
she expects of him on his trip in France. She adopts an authoritative tone in order to show her son
that she knows what s best for him, and to make sure he experiences some feelings of fear, so he
will obey her wishes. In her letter, Abigail Adamsuses different types of rhetorical strategies to
help get her thoughts across. Abigail begins her letter by doing what any mother would do if her
son was on a trip without her, expresses hope that the trip was safe. Starting in paragraph two, she
moves into building an authoritative appeal by reminding her son she was the one who sent him
on this trip, due to the fact he is not capable of making wise decisions himself. Following this, she
tried to make him aware of the fact that he ВЁsubmitted to [her] adviceВЁ and he should not
ВЁgive [her] reason to lament itВЁ (Paragraph 2). This allows Abigail to show her authority over
her son, John QuincyAdams, and show him what she expects of him. Later in the letter she brings
to his attention the idea that he needs to acquire the French language. He is in France, therefore
he can learn the language, which could help him later in his life by being more diverse. When
bringing up the idea of him learning French, she is trying to make him feel some guilt. If she sent

The Pathophysiology Of Pina Ossicles
1.Pinna
Pinna is the outer ear it is made of cartilage that have a ridged surface. The main purpose of the
pinna is that; it funnels sound into the external auditory canal. This sound wave then hits the
tympanic membrane (Mohua, 2016).
2. External Auditory Canal
The auditory canal is the tube like structure just before the tympanic membrane. The task of the
auditory canal is to transport sound waves to the tympanic membrane (Mohua, 2016).
3.4.9. Ossicles
The ossicles are three little bones, which are located in the middle ear. The names of the bones are
in order; first is the malleus this bone is attached to the tympanic membrane. Next is the incus this
the second bone and is attached to the malleus. Last but not least the stapes is after the malleus but
before the oval window (Debara, T.I 2016). The main role for the ossicles are that they receive
vibrations from the tympanic membrane. When the ossicles receives the vibrations they then
amplify automatically; enabling them to transmit these vibrations to the oval window (Debara, T.I

different key components on having a successful project. One of the few key components in having

Summary Of The Roaring Inside Her
Women and Nature, The roaring inside her , by Susan Griffin, is a nonfiction feminist literature.
Susan Griffin, describes her work by linking together the destruction of nature, the subside of
women and racism, and the power of men towards women and nature.
In the book, Susan Griffin, compares women and earth to man. She sheds light on feminism, female
oppression, destruction of nature, and lastly the inequality that exist between men and women. The
principal focus of the book is to show the connection between women and nature, and the disparities
between men and nature. After years of conducting research she concludes that women and men
inequality, science, language, and tradition have shape men masculinity as the ultimate power,
drawing a line between man and nature.
The first chapter is called Matter, and in this chapter she compares the bodies and agency of
women to being small , weak , and a form of property. She explains that the universe is always
subject to change and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes,
such as, breast, vulva, hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory.
She illustrates that men are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to
know. Then she speaks about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men
screw them over at the end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use
and exploration.
As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive,
smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and
nature. She stated,
He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. That wind
blows in her ears and trees whisper to her. That the dead sing through her mouth and the cries of
infants are clear to her. But for him this dialogue is over. He says he is not part of this world, that
he was set on this world as a stranger. He sets himself apart from woman and nature. (Griffin,2000,
p.67. Preface)
Precisely for Griffin this impression of masculinity has driven men to perceive of themselves as
powerful and superior. In the

A Business Entity Structure Like Limited Liability Company
In today s era they re many business structures like sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited
liability companies (LLC), and corporations in which individuals uses to start their own business.
Any types of business structure that you may choose will have legal and tax implications (SBA,
2016). If I were to start my own business, I would choose a business entity structure like Limited
Liability Company(LLC). A limited liability company is a mix type of legal structure that provides
the limited liability features of a corporationand the tax efficiencies and operational flexibility of a
partnership (SBA, 2016).
Types of Business Structure
There are several business structures that one could use to start a new business and to make a
present business much more operative and inclusive. The business structures that will be talked
about in the paper are:
Sole proprietorship
Partnerships
Limited liability companies (LLC)
Corporations
Sole Proprietorship

Analysis Of The Film Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
The movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a fascinating science fiction film that not only
exposes the fault of the human mind, but also demonstrates a completely original structure and

Will Rodman, whom is in pursuit to find a cure for Alzheimer s in hopes to cure his very sick
father (Charles Rodman). He works in a science laboratory where their main test subjects are
apes. When the preliminary tests go sour and one ape in the test center lashes out at another
scientist causing chaos throughout the entire lab, all but one of the apes were euthanized. The
ape that did not get killed was rescued by Will, and named Caesar. Will notices that Caesar is

was given to Caesar s mother (ALZ 112) had been passed on to Caesar himself. Will, who had
been sitting by without hope, watching his father get more, and more ill, decides to go back to
the lab and retrieve some of the ALZ 112. He hopes that he can begin to treat his father with the
medicine and see results, like the ones he had witnessed in Caesar. To his wishes, he saw just that,
his father had regained almost full health. It was almost as if his Alzheimer s had just disappeared.

Heritage, a Theme in Alice WalkerВґs Everyday Use
Alice Walker sets Everyday Use as a story of a mother and two daughters where the older
daughter, Dee, is coming home to visit them after being away for a while. Walker sets the tone
of the story by displaying how poor and uneducated the family is and how Dee while growing up
was always looking for better things never appreciating the aspects of her life. As the story
develops, the focus of the story is on a set of quilts made by the mother from pieces of clothing
that belonged to her grandparents and the personal battle of who should really keep them in order
to appreciate the heritagebehind them. In Everyday Use a person can see how Maggie and Dee
differ on the fact that heritage is a characteristic of pride that a person displays every day of their
life versus a fad for a specific period of someone s life.
While growing up Dee was always resentful of the lifestyle that she had as it did not measure to
the better things she was always dreaming of. While the mother recounts the story of when their
original house burned to the ground, she mentions how Dee stood there concentrating at the way
the house slowly disappeared in the fire since she hated the house that much (Walker 298). This
aspect sets the tone of how Dee was never willing to embody the characteristics of her life
growing up, and it can be seen how she was ashamed of where she came from as later she writes
her mother in a letter of how she will always try to visit them, but she will never bring her

but radar guided automatic guns of 20 to 40mm continued to provide a defense against low
flying aircraft and helicopters (M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage). The M16 Multiple Gun
Motor Carriage, one of the offshoots of the M3 family line, had origins in 1943. The M16 arose
out of a need for a new, more efficient self propelled anti aircraft vehicle able to keep pace with
the armored columns stretching from the various beachheads and streaming towards Paris, Rome,
and Berlin. The M16 Chassis remained largely faithful to the original M3 offering and was further
based on the developmental T1E2. The M16 began its U.S. Army service in 1944 and gave an
excellent account of itself under all manner of battlefield conditions. Its combined firepower
provided the needed defense against low flying threats and enemy pilots soon became aware of its

Tension In Rwanda Genocide
World History II Colonial Legacies Research Paper
In 1994, a brutal battle of discrimination and hatred erupted. In the central African country of
Rwanda, a long brewing tension broke out in a battle between the Tutsi and Hutu. Lasting
approximately 100 days, the conflict forever changed the lives of 40% of the Rwandan population.
About 800,000 Tutsi were killed and many refugees fled the country ( Rwandan Genocide ). It was
a grueling fight, based on land and power, that all started with a lopsided hierarchy created by the
Belgians that loomed over the heads of the Rwandan people. Belgium s colonization of Rwanda,
served as a catalyst to the genocide between the Tutsi and Hutu by creating the unjust differences

people with identity cards. The Belgians made it so ethnicity was the defining feature of their
Rwanda existence and stereotyping began to take over the identities of the people. This scheme of
separation hit the everyone that lived in this country; the Tutsi, the Hutu and a group called the

Overview Of The Jinn
Introduction
The topic of Jinn in Islam is definitely a fascinating one, as man has an innate curiosity about the
supernatural and unseen. Unfortunately, this topic is also one that is replete with misconceptions.
This essay will explore the world of the Jinn through the Qur aan and authentic Sunnah.
Creation and Existence of Jinn
The Jinn possess some characteristics of human beings, such as the ability to think and reflect and
the ability to choose between good and evil, but they are different in their origin and creation. We
are informed by Allah that the Jinn are created from fire:
And the jinn, We have created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. (Qur aan 55:27)

The teacher said, What would you do if you passed by some sheep and the sheepdog kept barking

He replied, I would keep on until I drove him off.
The teacher said, You should ask the shepherd s help in keeping the dog away from you!
This analogy teaches us the best way to protect oneself: by seeking refuge and protection in Allah.
We are equipped with many weapons against Shaytaan and the Jinn in general from the Sunnah.
These include being in constant remembrance of Allah, seeking refuge in Allah before entering the
bathroom, reciting the Qur aan or sleeping, as well as the last two Surahs of the Qur aan and Ayatul
Kursi.
Conclusion
The world of the Jinn is one which is both sinister and intriguing. Knowing about it can explain
many of the mysteries of the seen world. By learning the monotheism of Allah, we defend ourselves

The Montana Tech Math Bowl
For my senior project, I choose to do the Montana Tech Math Bowl. With the support of my
fellow senior math majors I became the President of the Math Club. Dr. Laurie Battle then
became the advisor to math club and my project. The primary goal The primary goal of this
project was to examine the math bowl and try to improve upon it. After three years of being a
member of the Montana tech math club I was given the opportunity to run it. So, with the
resources available to the math club, I attempted to organize and promote another math bowl
completions. Through running this event I hoped to gain insight on short coming that the math
club faced. One of these was the lack of participation from the math club members. The second
main goal that would greatly improve upon the math bowl is a reference book . There were no
previous tests, flyers, or records from the earlier math bowls. I had nothing to help me design the
math bowl. Therefore, a reference book for the math bowl of fall 2016 will be made containing
documents used in the math bowl. Hopefully this can provide a benchmark to help improve future
math bowls at Montana tech. summary of methods used, results, and analysis The first step to
organizing the math bowl involved organizing the math club. I obtained a list of potential members
from faculty members. I also personally visited the freshman math seminar class in attempt to
recruit new members. I started with 12 potential members and ended with 5 participating

Suggestions For Apsi From Billie Jean Clemens
Suggestions for APSI from Billie Jean Clemens 1.A misunderstanding still exists as to the
approach of the redesign. What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students
have access to facts at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign
represents a paradigm shift in the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all
at breakneck speed and hope something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual
approach to history that emphasizes the application of historical thinking skills while still
holding students accountable for a core of knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative
conversations and the development of quality lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what
this really looks like in the classroom. 2.Above all, the workshops need to emphasize the crucial
role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach those skills; AND, how those skills are
assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework has done a nice job of explaining these
skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are assessed on the exam. For example,
in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations explain that in a periodization
essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar to the developments that
preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics for the exam, a teacher
new to the course would have to realize that both

90 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida lies a beautiful, small country known as Cuba. Cuba is a
melting pot of many different types of ethnicities including Americans, African Americans, and

Cuba s government is Raul Castro. The government has decided that the men in Cuba must serve

Social Democrats And Neo Liberals
Both social democrats and neo liberals claim to support a free society. This essay will discuss
how and why their visions of freedom diverge. This essay will focus on the social vision of
social democracy and neo liberalism, as freedom is subject to this vision. The social vision
involves the society and its values. What kind of society does the ideology want and how do they
want to achieve this kind of society? This essay will discuss the social democratic vision of
freedom, the neo liberal vision of freedom and will then argue how and why their visions diverge.
As a hybrid ideology, social democracy took shape around the mid twentieth century, resulting from
the tendency among western socialist parties not only to adopt parliamentary strategies, but also to
revise their socialist goals. In particular, they abandoned the goal of abolishing capitalism and
sought instead to reform or humanize it. Being based on a compromise between the market and the
state, social democracy lacks a systematic underlying theory and is, arguably, inherently vague. This
revisionist socialism has been primarily concerned with social justice, a just or fair distribution of
wealth in society (Heywood 2012, pp. 125 129). In contrast with many liberals, social democrats
believe that freedom has financial and social preconditions. It is not only about securing negative
freedoms, but ensuring what is called positive freedom . Freedom must be legally ensured and
effectively guaranteed. Similarly

something in the Ocean she knew that it was a ship but did not mention it to her brother because
she knew that he would lose focus and run off. But once Ramo did notice it he asked Karana if she

end of the duty free zone you can find the cafeteria area and waiting area to spend your time
before the gate opens. Normally before the staff commences boarding procedure, there is a time
window lasting around fifteen twenty minutes. At each gate there is only one desk for boarding
confirmation, so as it opens a large queue forms again. The airport s solution is to assign
multiple employees serving at the desk although sometimes it takes about ten minutes for this
simple operation. After this check, passing trough the gate you leave the terminal building.
Passengers are loaded at bus transport to be taken to the airplane. Most passengers find this
procedure unnecessary and annoying as the distance from the terminal exit to the airplane is not
longer than 200 meters. These are security requirements but could be rearranged the distance to
be covered on foot as it would take less time and as it s done at other airports. The whole action
to go out trough the gate, get on the bus and reach the airplane entrances lasts about 5 minutes.
Then the airplane buses take the passengers to the both entrances of the airplane. Once you get off
the bus, it takes two or three minutes and few steps to go up the stairway entrances and find your
seat. When arrived back, initially you come back from your traveling, you go back the same way

Religion In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greece mythology was a big part of the world around them. Greek religion was a
mixture of Minoan beliefs, Central Asian and Indo Europeans gods, and West Asian ideas they
got from their neighbors. Ancient Greeks believed that there were powerful gods and spirits that
could control what happened to you. Most people also thought that you could convince those
gods to favor you through sacrifice, prayer, and living a good life. If you did this successfully, you
would have enough food, and if not, you might starve. People also tried to control other natural
forces like earthquakes and plagues, and prayed for guidance and strategies to win battles and wars.
When an earthquake or a plague hit a town, people thought it must be something the whole town
had done wrong, or maybe something the rulers of the town had done wrong. Ancient Greek

Differences Between The Crucible Movie And Movie
The Crucible, an original play written by Arthur Miller, has had a multitude of adaptations come
out after its release in 1953. Among these adaptations are the movie, The Crucible, directed by
Nicholas Hytner and starring Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder and local performances of
the play, such as the one seen at the Civic Theatre. The Crucible is about the people of Salem,
MA and trouble of the accusations of witchery after Abigail, the niece of Reverend Parris, has an
affair with the married John Proctor and he denies her when she attempts to do it again.
Specifically, Abigail s reaction to the rejection in the movie is portrayed so much more realistic
than it is in the play and the entire cast portraying their characters realistically for how it was
appropriate for the setting of the movie. Although the movie was exceptional in content, the
universal portrayal of the characters was better in the movie. Overall, The Crucible movie version,
directed by Nicholas Hytner, portrayed the characters better the play because Winona Ryder
portrayed Abigail Williams better than the written play did, and the cast as a whole worked
together to create the mood of the historical time period of both the Salem Witch Trials and the
communist era. Additionally, even though the written play was amazing due to it being first , the
movie was still better at portraying the development of the characters.

Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge
The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to
which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict
it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power
against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject.
What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and
power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply
power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the
independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a
form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be
revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences
develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the
assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion.
According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge,
power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive
process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source
of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the

establishing certain coastal factories in India. These centers had locals working and gathering
resources for the British company, which in my opinion, created a sense of the local Indian people
being subordinate to the British from the start, as the Indians were providing their own resources
for the benefit of the British. Additionally, the taking of the three capitals allowed the British to
make their presence known to the Indians, as well as spread their influence. Moreover, the strength
of the British military was very appealing to the Indian rulers. The Indian rulers valued the British
military because of their strength which meant that they could hold off enemies. Also, the Indians
were amazed by the loyalty the British had to their home country, making them appealing.... Show

Not only did Bengal have an abundance of resources that the British then controlled, but they were
able to control it while still making it appear as though the Indian ruler was in charge. One of the
important reasons the book points out that allowed the British to be to secure control in India was
their control of the seas. Because trade was primarily done by ships, the British had bragging
rights to the sea unlike its enemies. The British were able to secure their colonial rule in India by
creating certain regulations and defining racial lines. The British used historical Hindu and
Muslim rule to govern the two religious groups. This made the British seem like they were friends
to the Indians, while really creating deeper divisions in Indian society. Additionally, they created a
sense of British superiority to the Indians and a belief that the Indians needed to be civilized. When
the Indians did revolt, this only allowed the British to justify their

Area and Oasis Blocks
Internal Assesment Task 2C
In this experiment I am investigating the relationship between surface area and the volume of a
model cactus and to determine whether this relationship affects the loss of water.
We used oasis blocks, an absorbant material used by florists as a substitute for a cactus, that would
soak up the water, and thus ideally show the percentage water loss by weighing the before and after
evaporation weights.
Independent Variable
The independent variable is the total surface area for each size of the blocks and I think this will
affect the dependent variable as larger blocks, I hypothesize, will have less water loss by
evaporation as there is less surface area for it, as opposed to the smaller (2cm x 2cm x 2cm) ... Show

It can be seen from my results that, apart from the anomaly of the second point, which could have
occurred for a number of reasons (see Evaluation), that the surface area does affect the percentage
loss of water. My results could be more reliable if the tests were repeated and errors were analyzed
after each experiment, however I believe that it is shown in my graph that the relationship between
the dependent and independent variable is obvious.
Evaluation
My conclusion, based on my graph, cannot be entirely correct, as my results were anomalous due to
a number of interferences with this experiment. Firstly, I think that by doing this

The Ring Of Monocromatic Houses Essay
The choice of the setting itself, narrowed by an architectonical ring of monocromatic houses,
echoes the same sense of claustrophobic immobility to which Jefferies is subject. While he is a
temporary prisoner whitin his own flat, his possibilities as an observer are similarly limited and so
are the spectators ones. Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted
violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters
awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them
unconsciously embodies. Therefore, after the credits, a barely distinguishable threesome appears on
the top edge of the frame, standing on a corner terrace, as to represent its marginality. Subsequently,
the camera flows on the main building, enclosing its windows and producing a meta framing
mechanism, which might be defined as a cinematic matryoska effect. In the matter of the opening
scene, the framing arrangement is a pre eminent feature. The eye of the camera is always working
within the courtyard, occasionally shooting sparse glimpses from the road. One might find
interesting the initial state of the leading character, whose face is shown through a medium shot,
sleeping on a wheelchair he is temporarily confined to; in terms of perspective, this is the only
moment throughout the whole film in which the camera does not matches Jeffrey s view. The
viewers are provided with an autonomous

Dry White Season Essay
Summary Dry White Season Adam Simon CGW 4U1 Dry White Season was what I felt to be an
exemplary interpretation of how native South Africans truly condemned the immoral Apartheid
political system of the mid 1900 s. Though the film was quite graphic, explicit nature seemed
necessary to prove how racial brutality towards the black community really did exist. I enjoyed
the whole idea of a narrow minded white man making the transition from a life of socially
superior racial prejudice to become a devoted supporter of black rights. I found this really helped
create a strong liberal message to aid viewers in understanding the sick intolerance of the majority
of white South Africans at that time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benjamin is the hero; the incoherent individual that learns an unpleasant lesson due to one event
that changed the course of all events prior, (Gordon s death) Captain Stoltz was the villain; the
sadistic, power hungry oppressor with manipulative ways that ended up determining his fate, Johan
represented the loyal and resourceful character that led the viewer to believe there was a shed of
hope throughout any struggle, and Stanley was the character I ve seen way too often, the random
bystander that provides the cathartic release by ultimately giving the villain what he deserved.
Despite some predictable qualities, the characters were still interesting. I thought Donald
Sutherland played the part of Benjamin superbly. His air of seriousness and integrity really keep
me interested in his character. Sure, he was naГЇve before the death of Gordon, and it was best to
just let it go at first, but he grew from being pessimistic and cynical, to an entirely optimistic,
likeable person to me the end by going neck deep into the mystery of Gordon s disappearance.
My favourite character of all though, was no doubt Mr. McKenzie. Though he only was vaguely
present, he absolutely dominated the screen during the courtroom trial. I found his use of sarcastic
remarks in the courtroom hilarious, yet so fittingly applicable to his realist character. He clearly is
a trail blazer in the sense that he is a white man fighting for black rights, yet he does so anyways,

Arrogance In China
The relationships between China and the West has been, throughout centuries, one of the most
fluctuating due to the arrogance found on both sides. Emperor Qianlong states his relationship
with Europe as one sided (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III), based on how
Qianlong boldly says that the west needed China s products while china, itself, claimed that they
already had everything. This was to say if it did not benefit China in any way or form requests
for further trade or import/export was not instated or acted upon by the Emperor. Still, they did
allow the trading of China s manufactured goods, such as silk, tea, and porcelain, for silver

Qianlong s bold way of assessing the western nation s culture and traditions, calling them
barbaric even, stems from his reaction, from his point of view, of how the West wanted to
divide China up to suit their own needs and wants. He especially resorts to sarcasm about how
tiny England is (paragraph 5, pg.2) and plays to his own arrogance that Your England is not the
only nation trading at Canton (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III, 2). Although this
is true, due to trading with the Dutch, Spanish, (etc.), yet he did not have to go as far as insulting
how the lonely remoteness (Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1913 (Letter dates 1793)) of England is
and how they don t have the land mass and remoteness of the Middle Kingdom. Then to add
further insult Qianlong ordered the return of Ambassador Macartney immediately and slightly
threatened the British Empire (Emperor Qianlong Mandate to King George III, 4 ) that if they did
proceed to trade where they were not supposed to they would be expelled quickly. Reading the
article Qianlong is a very proud, fearless Emperor that had the guts to say no to Britain, getting his
point across to King George that China would not bow down to them and give them everything
they want, that China would not be assimilated into the Western culture and be used for Europe s
own ends, yet Qianlong put into a way which made the Crown harden itself against China resulting
in their deep animosity toward the Middle

Pros And Cons Of Developing Israel
The Economics Of Developing Israel
Since Israel s creation in 1948, it has economically risen through the ranks all the way to one of
the most successful countries in the region, and even the world. So how did it manage to get so
far in such a short amount of time? The key to Israel s prosperity lies in cooperation with developed
/rapidly developing countries. Whether that cooperation results in economic exchange or
information used to better develop products or solve common economic issues, Israel has taken
advantage of the highly globalized economy in order to jump start it to where it is today.

The Interesting Dolphin
Many people know those cute, funny, intelligent animals that are known as dolphins, right?
There are so many interesting things about them. Dolphins have been around for about 15 million
years now. They re extremely intelligent, probably even more intelligent than us humans. Dolphins
are becoming endangered because of humans and many don t know that. They are known as the
oceans most kind animals.Dolphins have originated millions of years ago,are extremely
endangered, and are becoming endangered. The most important thing to know about dolphins would
probably be how they originated because without that those cute aquatic mammals wouldn t even
exist. Dolphins have been around a lot longer than humans. They originated about 50 million years
ago. The most common dolphin, being the bottlenose dolphin, has been around for 15 million
years. Surprisingly, dolphins originated from members of the cetaceans group. Cetaceans used to
be land mammals but evolved into being aquatic mammals. In From Land to Water it stated, The
transition from land to water is documented by a series of intermediate fossils from India and
Pakistan. This research helps prove how they used to be land mammals but evolved to live in the
ocean. Dolphins are one out of many aquatic mammals who need oxygen, but they need water in
order to live. Believe it or not, dolphins are somewhat related to hippos, camels, deer, cattle, and
giraffes. In From Land to Water, Many features that are

Essay about Two Viewpoints of Death in Emily Dickinson s...
Two of Emily Dickinson s poems, I heard a Fly buzz when I died and Because I could not stop for
Death are both written about life s stopping point, death. Although the poems are written by the
same poet, both poems view death in a different manner. Between the two poems, one views death
as having an everlasting life while the other anticipates everlasting life, only to realize it does not
exist. While both poems are about death, both poems also illustrate that the outcome of death is a
mysterious experience that can only be speculated upon with the anticipation of everlasting life.

In Because I could not stop for Death the woman seems to anticipate everlasting life, and has
found it. The woman in the poem has been taken away by death. It almost seems as if the lady is
reminiscing through her life as a child, an adult, and then she finds death. The death portion of
her life is represented by We passed the setting sun (12). Reading through the poems leads one to
believe the woman was very comfortable with death and all it had to offer. The woman in the
poem is so comfortable in her new state that time trickles by, feeling ...shorter than the Day (22).
The poem, Because I could not stop for Death represents a woman that has found peace with her
everlasting life. The mysterious experience of death is revealed in both poems.
The poems, I heard a Fly buzz when I died and Because I could not stop for Death both give

and happiness. Although both poems are about death, both poems give different views of death.

When the consumer received this message, noise is reduced, thus increasing the chances of e
commerce because the consumer is already at the site for one product, but may leave with two.
The last behavior associated with e tailing would be the partnership potentially created after the
purchase has been made. Consumers who make purchases online want to know the full story
about the product or service and what he or she is involving themselves in. It is in the best
interest of the e tailer to keep their process simple and user friendly. Too many options and side
pages keep consumers from doing what companies need them to do, make purchases. E tailing
allows companies to remain clean and turn inventory over faster to make room for newer products.
Customers dislike thinking they are required to pay one amount, and after charges, taxes, and fees
pay a different. Online companies that inform their client base upfront about fees and charges have
a better chance of keeping that business. Finally, learning about the customer through the use of
consumer behavior and traffic recognition software enables the e tailer to understand what their
customers are most interested in, and willing to buy the most of. (ClickZ, 2011). The communication
medium for this behavior begins when the customer is sent a message to inform that individual of
the company s gratitude for their business and a

Essay on The Bicycle Thief
The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is a deeply moving neo realist study of post War Italy which
depicts one man s loss of faith and his struggle to maintain personal dignity in poverty and
bureaucratic indifference. Antonio Ricci is a bill poster whose bicycle, essential for his job, is
stolen by a thief. Joined by his son Bruno, Antonio vainly searches for his bike, eventually resorting
to the humiliation of theft himself. Throughout this paper, I will attempt to trace the character
through The Bicycle Thief. The film opens with a montage of early morning urban activities
ending on a crowd of unemployed laborers clamoring for work. Sitting to the side is Antonio Ricci.

loses him in the rush of the mid morning traffic. Thus begins an unrelenting three day search for
his stolen bicycle. Accompanied by Bruno, Antonio combs Rome to recover his property, which

Analyse the advantages and limitations of different methods of, and media for, making presentations
A variety of communication media can be considered when planning to produce a presentation, for
example verbal communication and written communication, each type of communication media
has its advantages and limitations. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal
and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that
they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much
visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint
because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost
effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text
on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the
actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the
demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more
practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts
ensuring I didn t give too much information at once and this allowed the audience to document any
supplementary information I said during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on
the slides ensured the presentation remained fluid and

  • 3. Guilt In To Kill A Mockingbird In today s world racism is not common as it was in the 1900 s. In the early 1900 s racism was very common, and most of the white Americans were racist to the Minorities. Although racism was common in the 1900 s it is now frowned upon and not very common at all. Minorities are now not rejected in today s world, and are accepted like any other person. Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird shows that guilt can be unfairly determined based on racial discrimination. In this novel many people assume someone is guilty because of their nationality before they take Atticus a lawyer advice and try to see things from their perspective. Dolphus Raymond came up them seeing Dill looking pale he gave him a sip of what was in the sack and it was Coca Cola. Dolphus Raymond doesn t care for the trashy people he loves African Americans. Cry about the hell white people give colored folks, without even thinking that they re people too (Lee 269). Treat people how you want to be treated even though the outside maybe different the inside is still the same we all have heart. White privilege does not mean that your life was easy or that you didn t work hard, it means that black person is identical situation would have to work harder just to keep up. Of the foul treatment Why is it when one is seen in a different social/race group that it will end up misunderstanding the actual situation. • 4. A Brief Biography On The State Of Education A Brief Biography It is interesting to note that one of the most influential educators and researchers of all time was rejected for a professorship position because she was a woman and because she was overqualified (Fraenkel). Much to the benefit of present day curriculum development, the job rejection landed her in a series of positions that would eventually lead to her work with the U.S. Office of Education. Described as a short, squat, and spunky woman, Hilda Taba was notorious for her matter of fact, no nonsense approach in dealing with people (Krull, 481). Born in Estonia, in 1902, she received a German education, and then went on to study in the United States. The combination and the contrast of her two educations would later play an integral role in the formation of her curriculum ideals. Furthermore, her background in science contributed greatly to her scientific model of curriculum development (Hayes, 15). Taba worked closely with some of the most influential curriculum researchers and theorist of the 21st Century, including Benjamin Bloom, Ralph Tyler and John Dewey (Costa, Loveall, 57). In fact, many historical surveys regarding leaders of curriculum development and progressive education commonly refer to Taba as a disciple of Dewey. Learning and Curriculum Over the course of her career, Taba developed many theories regarding learning. In her seminal book, Curriculum Development Theory and Practice (1962), Taba defined knowledge and classified it into three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Competitive Landscape Of The Quick Service Restaurant The Competitive Landscape Companies in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry compete mainly on efficient operations and effective marketing. Usually, large companies enjoy advantages over small companies in terms of purchasing, finance, and marketing. But small companies can still compete by improving their products and services. The US is the global QSR market leader, taking 20% of global industry revenues (Hoovers). According to Porter, an industry has to have sustainable profits for firms to foresee in order to make firms profitable and successful (Porter, 3). However, according to our research the QSR industry is in danger of reaching unsustainable profit margins if industry leaders fail to adapt their business practices to this volatile market. The dining culture has changed over the years as people have become more aware of healthy eating lifestyle. This trend is expected to continuously dictate future market demand. Another factor to determine a company s success mentioned by Porter s is industry positioning (Porter, 1985). The position in the industry is crucial for companies who have empathies for their customers health. Many of them are not dominant firms in QSR industry and some of them are emerging in the industry. They need to find the exquisite balance in terms of market positioning to incept their success. • 6. Applying A Stress Management Schedule With the intention of managing stress, I decided to implement a stress management schedule, which I would continually develop, over the course of 11 weeks. With a focus on yoga, I hoped to gain an important insight on the valuable implications that proper stress management can have in my life. Improving my physical and emotional health can not only positively affect my own self, but also can positively affect the way I manage my own work life and relationships with others. Since being in college, I have felt as if I could not properly manage my daily tasks, while also taking time to myself. I constantly became stressed and anxious, with no sense of outlet. I decided to incorporate a stressmanagementtactic into my daily routine. As David Surrenda, dean of the Graduate School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University in California, described yoga in the International New York Times, as a, spiritual development practice to train the body and mind to self observe and become aware of their own nature. He later went on to describe how yoga affects each person by cultivating discernment, awareness, self regulation and higher consciousness, positively affecting multiple aspects of a persons life. Because of these reasons, I decided yoga could be the right fit for my personal development plan of managing stress. After choosing yoga as my concentration, I conducted research on different types and positions out there to preform. Yoga was a way, for me, to work on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the case of the film The Virgin Suicides, directed by Sofia Coppola, suicidestrikes the Lisbon s suburban Detroit home five times over, in which from the opening scene it is evident that this is far from a simple overview of a 1970 s pious family. He lives in a small apartment in Southie and has been working as a janitor at M.I.T under the supervision of the Parole Employment Program. As a child, Will was constantly in and out of foster homes due to the physical abuse by three different foster fathers since adolescence and has a history of assault, grand theft, resisting arrest, mayhem, impersonating an officer. As an effect of this abuse Will blames himself for his unhappy childhood and turns his anger issues into a form of self sabotage in both his professional and emotional lives. Hence why he is unable to maintain either a steady job or romantic relationship. He always wore slacks, and t shirt to all his therapy sessions, but his clothes appear to be clean. Will Hunting had anger issues and was very oppositional to authority figures. He also had abandonment issues. He was arrested for fighting and beating up another young man who he went to kindergarten with. At his court appearance, he was mandated to attend therapy twice a week and also required to report to Professor Lambeau once a week. He saw five therapists with whom he failed to connect, prior to seeing Sean Maguire. He terminated himself from some of his previous therapy sessions. Two of his therapists walked out on him. Will accused his first therapist of being gay and played his second therapy by pretending to be hypnotized. He was institutionalized for most of his childhood years. He spoke of his three close ... • 9. Essay on Guns in the Cockpit Guns in the Cockpit On the morning of September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked and two of them, brought the collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York City. As a result of these attacks on the United States, airports have come to the realization that the only way to prevent another hijacking is by strengthening the security on aircrafts through the cockpit. In order to secure the cockpit and ensure the safety of the passengers on board, guns were introduced as a possible solution in the event of an emergency situation like those that took place in September of 2001. The Transportation Security Administration head John Magaw, announced the administrations position that they are against guns in cockpits and a pilot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the craft was in the air, the terrorists took the initiative and stormed into the cockpit and took over the controls, turning the aircraft into a guided missile (CBS 1). Increasing security immediately became an important aspect of airports shortly there after. Adequate security ensures the safety of the people in the air and citizens on the ground below. It is expected by passengers, that they are boarding a craft that will land safely at their intended destination. An aircraft should be a safe place for everyone and even though every person that enters the airport goes through the required security checkpoints, there is a small fraction of error. Someone will get by with a potential weapon and board the plane along with it; therefore, the captains should have some form of a rear view mirror (Press 2). One of the many proposals made since the attacks is installing video cameras in the cabin to monitor passenger activity for any possible terrorist actions. A pilot should be aware of what is happening to the plane and the passengers on board at all times. In a situation where someone is trying to hijack an airplane, there are three factors needed to be assessed. Does the terrorist have a weapon, are they attacking alone, and is he or she a trained fighter in the case of a Federal Air Marshal interfering (APSA 2)? In the incident of the World Trade Center attacks, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Modern Times And City Lights Essay The role of women in Modern Times and City Lights is compelling compared to the roles of men in the films. Chaplin uses women as a set piece to set up jokes for him and other male characters, and drops little sexist aspects into what is the larger body of the two films. Chaplin uses women to diversify the types of jokes he can use and the aspect of a womancharacter in the filmcan alter what he does, where he can go, and it modifies the tramps moods throughout the films In both of the films we watched Chaplin uses the aspect of women to set up the tramps jokes. In Modern Times Chaplin embraces the aspect of women being the second lead character, after the tramp, and sets up most of the movie around her. However, we do not see the girl... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film, Chaplin also puts the blind girl and her grandmother in a place where they are struggling to pay the bills. Even though the tramp is the tramp and poor as well he gets the money from the rich man. This could be viewed as a sexist little bit of the movie as the women can t pay the rent because she doesn t make enough money to support them and then a man comes in and saves the day even though the man is in a much more dire situation than the two girls. Through all of that we still never see how it turns out between the two. After the woman gets the surgery and finally sees the tramp for who he really is we see her wondering what to do next. Before we get to that moment we see the woman eyeing all of the men that are wearing nice clothes and appear wealthy, and doesn t know what to do when the poor tramp reveals that it is him who gave her that money. This could be interpreted as woman are attracted to money and don t really care what s in your heart. The main woman in Modern Times is opposite of the woman in City Lights. Just like the Tramp she gets into trouble and is poor just like him. Compared to the other movie it seems like this girl is a much better fit for the tramps character than the woman in City Lights. This girl sparks scenes, jokes, and opportunities for the tramp while the other woman was mainly just a romantic set piece. However, he still uses women as set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Abigail Adams Letter Analysis Abigail Adams, in her letter, introduces advice and caution to her son, John Quincy Adams while he is on a trip to France with his father. Adams purpose is to allow her son to know what she expects of him on his trip in France. She adopts an authoritative tone in order to show her son that she knows what s best for him, and to make sure he experiences some feelings of fear, so he will obey her wishes. In her letter, Abigail Adamsuses different types of rhetorical strategies to help get her thoughts across. Abigail begins her letter by doing what any mother would do if her son was on a trip without her, expresses hope that the trip was safe. Starting in paragraph two, she moves into building an authoritative appeal by reminding her son she was the one who sent him on this trip, due to the fact he is not capable of making wise decisions himself. Following this, she tried to make him aware of the fact that he ВЁsubmitted to [her] adviceВЁ and he should not ВЁgive [her] reason to lament itВЁ (Paragraph 2). This allows Abigail to show her authority over her son, John QuincyAdams, and show him what she expects of him. Later in the letter she brings to his attention the idea that he needs to acquire the French language. He is in France, therefore he can learn the language, which could help him later in his life by being more diverse. When bringing up the idea of him learning French, she is trying to make him feel some guilt. If she sent him to France and he does not pick up the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first chapter is called Matter, and in this chapter she compares the bodies and agency of women to being small , weak , and a form of property. She explains that the universe is always subject to change and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes, such as, breast, vulva, hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory. She illustrates that men are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to know. Then she speaks about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men screw them over at the end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use and exploration. As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive, smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and nature. She stated, He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. That wind blows in her ears and trees whisper to her. That the dead sing through her mouth and the cries of infants are clear to her. But for him this dialogue is over. He says he is not part of this world, that he was set on this world as a stranger. He sets himself apart from woman and nature. (Griffin,2000, p.67. Heritage, a Theme in Alice WalkerВґs Everyday Use Alice Walker sets Everyday Use as a story of a mother and two daughters where the older daughter, Dee, is coming home to visit them after being away for a while. Walker sets the tone of the story by displaying how poor and uneducated the family is and how Dee while growing up was always looking for better things never appreciating the aspects of her life. As the story develops, the focus of the story is on a set of quilts made by the mother from pieces of clothing that belonged to her grandparents and the personal battle of who should really keep them in order to appreciate the heritagebehind them. In Everyday Use a person can see how Maggie and Dee differ on the fact that heritage is a characteristic of pride that a person displays every day of their life versus a fad for a specific period of someone s life. While growing up Dee was always resentful of the lifestyle that she had as it did not measure to the better things she was always dreaming of. While the mother recounts the story of when their original house burned to the ground, she mentions how Dee stood there concentrating at the way the house slowly disappeared in the fire since she hated the house that much (Walker 298). This aspect sets the tone of how Dee was never willing to embody the characteristics of her life growing up, and it can be seen how she was ashamed of where she came from as later she writes her mother in a letter of how she will always try to visit them, but she will never bring her ... What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students have access to facts at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign represents a paradigm shift in the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all at breakneck speed and hope something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual approach to history that emphasizes the application of historical thinking skills while still holding students accountable for a core of knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative conversations and the development of quality lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what this really looks like in the classroom. 2.Above all, the workshops need to emphasize the crucial role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach those skills; AND, how those skills are assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework has done a nice job of explaining these skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are assessed on the exam. For example, in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations explain that in a periodization essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar to the developments that preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics for the exam, a teacher new to the course would have to realize that both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will focus on the social vision of social democracy and neo liberalism, as freedom is subject to this vision. The social vision involves the society and its values. What kind of society does the ideology want and how do they want to achieve this kind of society? This essay will discuss the social democratic vision of freedom, the neo liberal vision of freedom and will then argue how and why their visions diverge. As a hybrid ideology, social democracy took shape around the mid twentieth century, resulting from the tendency among western socialist parties not only to adopt parliamentary strategies, but also to revise their socialist goals. In particular, they abandoned the goal of abolishing capitalism and sought instead to reform or humanize it. Being based on a compromise between the market and the state, social democracy lacks a systematic underlying theory and is, arguably, inherently vague. This revisionist socialism has been primarily concerned with social justice, a just or fair distribution of wealth in society (Heywood 2012, pp. 125 129). In contrast with many liberals, social democrats believe that freedom has financial and social preconditions. It is not only about securing negative freedoms, but ensuring what is called positive freedom . Freedom must be legally ensured and effectively guaranteed. Similarly ... • 35. Differences Between The Crucible Movie And Movie The Crucible, an original play written by Arthur Miller, has had a multitude of adaptations come out after its release in 1953. Among these adaptations are the movie, The Crucible, directed by Nicholas Hytner and starring Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder and local performances of the play, such as the one seen at the Civic Theatre. The Crucible is about the people of Salem, MA and trouble of the accusations of witchery after Abigail, the niece of Reverend Parris, has an affair with the married John Proctor and he denies her when she attempts to do it again. Specifically, Abigail s reaction to the rejection in the movie is portrayed so much more realistic than it is in the play and the entire cast portraying their characters realistically for how it was appropriate for the setting of the movie. Although the movie was exceptional in content, the universal portrayal of the characters was better in the movie. Overall, The Crucible movie version, directed by Nicholas Hytner, portrayed the characters better the play because Winona Ryder portrayed Abigail Williams better than the written play did, and the cast as a whole worked together to create the mood of the historical time period of both the Salem Witch Trials and the communist era. Additionally, even though the written play was amazing due to it being first , the movie was still better at portraying the development of the characters. • 37. Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the ... These centers had locals working and gathering resources for the British company, which in my opinion, created a sense of the local Indian people being subordinate to the British from the start, as the Indians were providing their own resources for the benefit of the British. Additionally, the taking of the three capitals allowed the British to make their presence known to the Indians, as well as spread their influence. Moreover, the strength of the British military was very appealing to the Indian rulers. The Indian rulers valued the British military because of their strength which meant that they could hold off enemies. Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them unconsciously embodies. Therefore, after the credits, a barely distinguishable threesome appears on the top edge of the frame, standing on a corner terrace, as to represent its marginality. Subsequently, the camera flows on the main building, enclosing its windows and producing a meta framing mechanism, which might be defined as a cinematic matryoska effect. I enjoyed the whole idea of a narrow minded white man making the transition from a life of socially superior racial prejudice to become a devoted supporter of black rights.
