Is the Funeral Industry Affected by Recession
How the funeral industry is being impacted and changed by the Global Recession?
Benjamin Franklin s old adage in this world nothing can be said to be certain except
death and taxes has never been truer. However, if he was around today he might
change his spelling of death to debt . Taxes in Ireland have increased recently and the
forthcoming emergency budget looks certain to bring further misery to the population.
So while governments are busy collecting whatever taxes they can, people are still
dying! You are born and then you die, it is a simple fact of life. In fact the portion in
between we call life is the uncertain part. When you die you will require the services of
an undertaker / funeraldirector. They are there to tax you one... Show more content on

Laurence Shatkin seems to think that the industry is recession proof. He ranks a
funeral director at number 84 in his recent book 150 Best Recession Proof Jobs . Yes
the work will continue to come and as the baby boomers come of age, so to speak, the
funeral industry doesn t look like slowing down. However, it is not just the people that
are dying, the profits are too! People have become more cost conscious as a
consequence of the recession and even in their time of grief they are starting to shop
around for the best deal to bury their loved ones. Remember, death can be sudden and
unplanned and a costly funeral will rarely be budgeted for. A funeral is a celebration
of someone s life and often the extravagance is a reflection of the respect for that
person. Irish people are famed for their funeral celebrations otherwise known as a good
send off . Nobody wants to cut back on any of the customs associated with a traditional
funeral, however, Dermott Jewell of the Consumers Association of Ireland has said I
don t think anyone can underestimate the difficulty of asking questions or querying
things at the time of a funeral but the fact is, you are availing of a service that comes
at a cost and it can be quite extreme. There are alternatives and you do have a choice.
There is a personal barrier there that you may be seen as being mean but nobody should
think in that vein The alternatives are straight forward. Choose a less ornate coffin;
Prions Essay
Prions
Prions have been a mistery for scientists from the day they where discovered. Prions act
like viruses but they are not. Their structure and chemistry are unknown. They are
believed to be proteins but that is yet to be completely proved.
Prion stands for proteinaceous infectious particles . Prions are known to cause many
diseases involved with nervous systems like the brain. They are the ones that cause the
well known mad cow disesase in Britain and scrapie for animals. For humans they are
known to cause a rare disease in Papua New
Guinea called Kuru ( or laughing death ) which striked only the cannibals in the
Highlander tribes. Investigation led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This protein was found to be a glycoprotein (PrP): sugars are bounded to the amino
acid, and it is half the size of hemoglobin. PrP is the protein, but we can also find today
PrPc (for cellular) and PrPsc (for scrapie). Prp can be found in steak ( skeletal muscle)
and also on the surface of lymphocytes present in milk, but there is no evidence that the
ingestion of this things can cause disease in humans , but there is the still a risk.
Amyloid hypothesis.
Prions were found to form rods: long fibrils in brain tissues infected with scrapie and
Creutzfeldt Jacob disease. They believed that the fibrils can be distiguished from
amyloid; that they represent a filamentous animal virus causing scrapie and that they are
elongated form of prion rods. The most impotant aspect of these rods is the
resemblance to amyloid. Amyloid plaques in the central nervous system form
considered accumulations of waste formed as some sort of a disease process. This
plaques are believed to be aggregations of prions in an almost crystalline state. The
production of antibodies to PrP allowed to demonstrate that amyloid plaques in the brain
of scrapie infected hamsters contain prion proteins. This amyloid plaques have been
found on
Alzheimer s disease patients, which leads to the question if prions are related to that
disease. Although it has not been proven yet, the hypothesis is quite reliable. Can prions
infectivity be reduced or eliminated?
The Population Of Hidalgo County
Introduction In 2013, the population of Hidalgo County was estimated to be 815,996,
an increase of 9,444 (2%) over the 2012 estimated population. The county seat is
located in the City of Edinburg. The governing body of Hidalgo County is the
Commissioners Court. The Commissioners Court is comprised of the County Judge,
who serves as the presiding officer, and four Commissioners from one of the County s
four road and bridge precincts. Each member of the Commissioners Court is elected to a
four year term of office. The Commissioners Court has certain powers expressly granted
by the legislature and powers necessarily implied by such grant. One of the most
important duties of the Commissioners Court is management of the finances of the
County. Among other things, it approves the budget, determines the tax rates, approves
contracts in the name of the County, determines whether indebtedness should be
authorized and issued, and appoints certain County officials. The Commissioners Court
is required to adopt a final budget by no later than the close of the calendar year. This
annual budget serves as the foundation for the County s financial planning and control.
The budget includes appropriations for the general fund, certain special revenue funds,
debt service funds, and proprietary funds. The budget is prepared by fund, function,
department, and object codes. Transfer of appropriations between departments requires
the approval of Commissioners Court.

Women And Courtship In The Taming Of The Shrew By
William...
How would a modern audience view this play in a different way to an audience in
Shakespeare s time, particularly in relation to the role and status of women and attitudes
to marriage and courtship?
Elizabethan society was created on the belief the woman had no right or control over
their own lives. Women had no choice in what their profession would be, as a matter
of fact they weren t allowed to have a profession such as medicine, politics and law. The
only places they were allowed to work were in domestic areas. This essay will be
focusing on the taming of the shrew with the role of status of women and attitudes
towards marriage and courtship during the Elizabethan era. In Elizabethan society, all
that women were considered of was the lower end of men and the weaker gender.
Women and men s role in Elizabethan society is completely different to modern society.
The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeareshows exactly what the attitudes
were like. For example, the scene when Katherina is fighting with her sister because
Bianca has a number of suitors waiting for her but she refuses to tell Katherina which
one she prefers. Katherina gets angry and aggressive towards Bianca because she doesn
t give her an answer, Katherina starts to attack Bianca. Their father enters into the room
and says For shame, thou hilding of a devilish spirit! Why dost thou wrong her that did
ne er wrong thee? When did she cross thee with a bitter word? Baptista is expressing
why Katherina would
Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch
Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and
responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and
judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal
government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something
against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that no branch
becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are equal and
balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people.
The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the
legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many
reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the
Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly elected
by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is the largest
and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can do this if it gets a 2/3 vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives,
limiting the President s powers. The legislative branch also checks on the judicial branch.
It can do this by impeaching judges that are accused in the House and found guilty by a 2
/3 vote in the Senate. On the other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the
legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the
President (executive branch), can pardon any person convicted of a federal crime,
outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision. Finally, the judicial branch,
while considered the weakest, also has checks on the other branches. Its check on the
legislative branch is declaring laws that it creates unconstitutional. Similarly, it can
declare executive acts
Example Of False Arguments
False accusations were lodged against me by my employer, Cheri Collins of American
Bail Bonds during November 2015. I was told that my cash was short by $1600 and
was informed that my failure to reimburse Cheri Collins would result in her obtaining
warrants for my arrest. It was further explained to me by Cheri that her word was all
that was required to initiate said charges and she posed the question; Who do you think
they will believe, me or you?
It was not unheard of for my cash to be short on occasion as I did not always
thoroughly count cash presented to me while in the jail, especially when multiple
clients were present and waiting to have their person bailed out. There were times
when I had over $30,000 on my person and I did not advertise it. However, if my
money was short, I always paid the difference out of my pocket. I have never stolen
anything from anybody and I did not steal any money from Cheri Collins, David Collins

Leslie Marmon Silko s The Border Patrol State
Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having
been based in the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in
border security and checkpoints. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was
published in The Nation magazine.
In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the
US Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She
backs these arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few
statistical evidence. As a result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but
weak when it comes to logos and ethos.
Silko s audience seems to be targeted at people who would likely or ... Show more

The next few paragraphs is a retelling of her personal experience with the border patrol.
In the story, she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion.
This creates credibility by establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they
come up to a checkpoint where they are confronted by some border patrol officers.
During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of menace from them liking them to
Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison helps push her argument
on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the oppressive
actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar
experiences to relate or affirm their feelings.
During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal
substances or immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd
which was treated very roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints
the dog as a victim of sorts to the border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an
appeal to emotion, allowing readers to sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought
to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest. During the search she describes the dog as
resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After searching the vehicle, the dog is
made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she and the dog made eye
contact. In that moment,
Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall
The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s
Town Hall. The Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a
pre industrial Florence, was primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine
magistrates and guilds in one place , and from this position they would have had
authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the Town Hall built from 1749
1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but was largely
rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the
existing building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom
and a customs warehouse. Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred
to as one of the finest surviving 18th century town halls . Unlike the Uffizi, the Town
Hall, only had authority over the local area and people. However this allowed them to
have more control over people s daily lives. The Uffizi, Florence (2016) Liverpool Town
Hall (2016)

They were both used to house political officials who governed over their respective
areas. However they both controlled very different amounts of land and people. 16th
century Florence had a stable population of about 70,000. However Liverpool had a
growing population. In 1750 when the building was originally under construction,
Liverpool only had a population of 20,000. By 1801, when the town hall was extended
Liverpool had a population of 77,000 people, however 20 years later the population had
reached 118,000. In the following essay I will compare the similarities and differences
between the Uffizi and the Liverpool town Hall. I will explore how both buildings
attempted to demonstrate their importance within society through the use of materials
and decorations, as well as the scale of each
Abusive College Life
I am not the traditional college freshman applicant. I am not only the mother of 2 little
girls, but also 27 years old. As a little girl I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian
when I grew up. A child of an abusive home, I loved the escape that school provided me.
I relished in homework and learning new things. I was often shifted from one abusive
situation with my mother, to another abusive situation with my grandparents. At the age
of 13 CPS removed me from my mother s care and placed me with my grandparents.
My grandparent s home was both emotionally and verbally abusive. My only outlets were
schooland work, and because of this I struggled with depresion, suicidal thoughts, and
self harm. I was desperate for a way out of my home situation. When my mother
showed up just before my 18th birthday, near the end of first semester of my senior
year, I fell right into her empty promises and manipulative tactics. I prepared myself to
move and switch schools. My major educational dilema occured when I got to my new
high schooland discovered that not only did they not offer a lot of the AP courses I was
taking, but they also didn t offer core classes that I needed to complete my academic
honors diploma. I was absolutely devestated, but my mother offered to homeschool me.

The International Society Of Blood Transfusion ( Isbt )
Chapter I
1 GENERAL INTRODUCTION
1 1 Overview of human blood groups
The term blood group is usually restricted to blood cell surface antigens, and generally
to red cell surface antigens. These antigens are molecules present on the red blood cells
membrane, which can trigger an immune response if they are foreign to the body.
Landsteiner and his colleagues (1, 2), discovered the first blood group system (ABO) in
1901, they observed that plasma from some individuals agglutinated the red cells from
others.
For the next 45 years, only those antibodies that directly agglutinate could be studied.
With the development of the antiglobulin test by Coombs, Mourant, and Race in 1945 (3,
4), the non agglutinating antibodies could be detected, ... Show more content on

Levine and Stetson identified an alloantibody in the mother serum, which react at room
temperature and 37 c with husband RBCs and with 80% of Caucasians RBCs. They
postulated that this antibody had produced against a specific factor in both fetus and
father RBCs that the mother lack. Levine and his colleague suggested that antibody had
developed during the mother pregnancy after her exposure to a foreign factor from her
fetus.
A year later Landsteiner and Wiener (7), discovered an antibody in the rabbits and
guinea pigs sera after being injected with rhesus Macacus monkeys RBCs, they noticed
that the antibody agglutinate with 85% of human RBCs. This antibody named Rh after
Rhesus monkeys. Other study carried by Levine and others (8), demonstrate that Rh
antibody which was described by Landsteiner and Wiener has the same specificities of
the former antibody which was discovered in 1939, and they thought it was belong to the
same blood group. Years later, many investigations showed that it was not the case, and
each of the two antibodies belong to a different blood group. However, anti Rh name
retained to the human produced antibody, and the other antibody renamed anti LW in
Social Relationships Within The Media Industry Essay
The way advertisers from the 1960s onwards responded to the causes of demassification
of consumers began when the media industry was restructuring itself into smaller
independent operating entities. The shift during this time formed large operating
industry s into smaller lines of production meant that advertisers would have to change
their focus from a mass audience into smaller groups of well targeted consumers. Leiss,
Kline, Jhally, and Botterill refer to this process of identifying smaller target markets as
one of demassification (309). Fletcher suggests, over the past four decades, this has led to
a more diverse representation within advertisingas different groups have been identified
as disposable income (129). Therefore, the process of demassification has uniquely
caused social relationships within the consumer cultureduring the 1960s onwards.
The 1960s marked a shift of consumer culture that became the process of demassifying
, ... as social relations rooted in class, family and work were challenged by the
fashioning of individual lifestyles in the expanded domain of consumer culture (Leiss et
al. 295) Demassification during that particular time was increasing ad costs, but it also
made advertisers look at what they get for their media expenditures. As Caffery
suggested, demassification was building, so was the bill. When you combine smaller
audiences with higher costs, alarm systems start to ring (13). These transformations
The Perception Of True Love In Disney s Cinderella
Society has its own idealized versions of every human sentiment. It relays on physical
features as the best description of beauty itself, and follows an enchanted realism that
leads to the disappointment of adults soul. Looking for happiness, one grows up
searching for the perfect sweetheart that would honor Disney s standard of true love.
Shortly, reality hits the mind and one realized that not everyone lives in a castle. And
now, all the eyes can see are peoples imperfections and every piece that is wrong with
them. What most fail to realize is that there are more imperfect things in the world that
princesses and princes in Disney, and that Cinderella is a handmade character; humans

Although, the concept of a beautiful woman has changed throughout time, this is the
current perception of beauty. During his time, William Shakespeare succeeded to
describe a woman by the beauty in her imperfections in his sonnet My mistress eyes
are nothing like the sun . First it s important to acknowledge, mistress is not necessarily
referring to an affair, although the women described in the sonnet is definitely sexually
involved with the speaker. In spite of the fact that Shakespeare is physically describing
this woman, he does it in a peculiar way by describing the woman s flaws instead of
following most authors caption of beauty in women. Setting the sun as his view of
perfection when comparing the woman s eyes to the sun Shakespeare lets the reader

  • 2. Is the Funeral Industry Affected by Recession How the funeral industry is being impacted and changed by the Global Recession? Benjamin Franklin s old adage in this world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes has never been truer. However, if he was around today he might change his spelling of death to debt . Taxes in Ireland have increased recently and the forthcoming emergency budget looks certain to bring further misery to the population. So while governments are busy collecting whatever taxes they can, people are still dying! You are born and then you die, it is a simple fact of life. In fact the portion in between we call life is the uncertain part. When you die you will require the services of an undertaker / funeraldirector. They are there to tax you one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laurence Shatkin seems to think that the industry is recession proof. He ranks a funeral director at number 84 in his recent book 150 Best Recession Proof Jobs . Yes the work will continue to come and as the baby boomers come of age, so to speak, the funeral industry doesn t look like slowing down. However, it is not just the people that are dying, the profits are too! People have become more cost conscious as a consequence of the recession and even in their time of grief they are starting to shop around for the best deal to bury their loved ones. Remember, death can be sudden and unplanned and a costly funeral will rarely be budgeted for. A funeral is a celebration of someone s life and often the extravagance is a reflection of the respect for that person. Irish people are famed for their funeral celebrations otherwise known as a good send off . Nobody wants to cut back on any of the customs associated with a traditional funeral, however, Dermott Jewell of the Consumers Association of Ireland has said I don t think anyone can underestimate the difficulty of asking questions or querying things at the time of a funeral but the fact is, you are availing of a service that comes at a cost and it can be quite extreme. There are alternatives and you do have a choice. There is a personal barrier there that you may be seen as being mean but nobody should think in that vein The alternatives are straight forward. Choose a less ornate coffin;
  • 3. Prions Essay Prions Prions have been a mistery for scientists from the day they where discovered. Prions act like viruses but they are not. Their structure and chemistry are unknown. They are believed to be proteins but that is yet to be completely proved. Prion stands for proteinaceous infectious particles . Prions are known to cause many diseases involved with nervous systems like the brain. They are the ones that cause the well known mad cow disesase in Britain and scrapie for animals. For humans they are known to cause a rare disease in Papua New Guinea called Kuru ( or laughing death ) which striked only the cannibals in the Highlander tribes. Investigation led to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This protein was found to be a glycoprotein (PrP): sugars are bounded to the amino acid, and it is half the size of hemoglobin. PrP is the protein, but we can also find today PrPc (for cellular) and PrPsc (for scrapie). Prp can be found in steak ( skeletal muscle) and also on the surface of lymphocytes present in milk, but there is no evidence that the ingestion of this things can cause disease in humans , but there is the still a risk. Amyloid hypothesis. Prions were found to form rods: long fibrils in brain tissues infected with scrapie and Creutzfeldt Jacob disease. They believed that the fibrils can be distiguished from amyloid; that they represent a filamentous animal virus causing scrapie and that they are elongated form of prion rods. The most impotant aspect of these rods is the resemblance to amyloid. Amyloid plaques in the central nervous system form considered accumulations of waste formed as some sort of a disease process. This plaques are believed to be aggregations of prions in an almost crystalline state. The production of antibodies to PrP allowed to demonstrate that amyloid plaques in the brain of scrapie infected hamsters contain prion proteins. This amyloid plaques have been found on Alzheimer s disease patients, which leads to the question if prions are related to that disease. Although it has not been proven yet, the hypothesis is quite reliable. Can prions infectivity be reduced or eliminated?
  • 4. The Population Of Hidalgo County Introduction In 2013, the population of Hidalgo County was estimated to be 815,996, an increase of 9,444 (2%) over the 2012 estimated population. The county seat is located in the City of Edinburg. The governing body of Hidalgo County is the Commissioners Court. The Commissioners Court is comprised of the County Judge, who serves as the presiding officer, and four Commissioners from one of the County s four road and bridge precincts. Each member of the Commissioners Court is elected to a four year term of office. The Commissioners Court has certain powers expressly granted by the legislature and powers necessarily implied by such grant. One of the most important duties of the Commissioners Court is management of the finances of the County. Among other things, it approves the budget, determines the tax rates, approves contracts in the name of the County, determines whether indebtedness should be authorized and issued, and appoints certain County officials. The Commissioners Court is required to adopt a final budget by no later than the close of the calendar year. This annual budget serves as the foundation for the County s financial planning and control. The budget includes appropriations for the general fund, certain special revenue funds, debt service funds, and proprietary funds. The budget is prepared by fund, function, department, and object codes. Transfer of appropriations between departments requires the approval of Commissioners Court. The County provides a full
  • 5. Women And Courtship In The Taming Of The Shrew By William... How would a modern audience view this play in a different way to an audience in Shakespeare s time, particularly in relation to the role and status of women and attitudes to marriage and courtship? Elizabethan society was created on the belief the woman had no right or control over their own lives. Women had no choice in what their profession would be, as a matter of fact they weren t allowed to have a profession such as medicine, politics and law. The only places they were allowed to work were in domestic areas. This essay will be focusing on the taming of the shrew with the role of status of women and attitudes towards marriage and courtship during the Elizabethan era. In Elizabethan society, all that women were considered of was the lower end of men and the weaker gender. Women and men s role in Elizabethan society is completely different to modern society. The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeareshows exactly what the attitudes were like. For example, the scene when Katherina is fighting with her sister because Bianca has a number of suitors waiting for her but she refuses to tell Katherina which one she prefers. Katherina gets angry and aggressive towards Bianca because she doesn t give her an answer, Katherina starts to attack Bianca. Their father enters into the room and says For shame, thou hilding of a devilish spirit! Why dost thou wrong her that did ne er wrong thee? When did she cross thee with a bitter word? Baptista is expressing why Katherina would
  • 6. Judicial Branch Vs Executive Branch Separations of powers is a principle of the United States government, giving powers and responsibilities that are divided among the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch. Checks and balances are certain powers that each branch of our federal government have to check on each other and make sure one branch isn t doing something against the Constitution. These balances between the branches ensure that no branch becomes too powerful. Preventing this means that all of the branches are equal and balanced and allows a fair federal government for the people. The branch that has the greatest amount of checks over the other branches is the legislative branch. They have the most checks over the other branches for many reasons. One reason is that this branch has the most people in it, combing both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Also, this branch is the most directly elected by the people and has people from every state. So, giving the branch that is the largest and is closest to the people is a good idea. ... The legislative branch also checks on the judicial branch. It can do this by impeaching judges that are accused in the House and found guilty by a 2 /3 vote in the Senate. On the other hand, the executive branch can also check back on the legislative by vetoing laws that the President thinks are unconstitutional. Furthermore, the President (executive branch), can pardon any person convicted of a federal crime, outrunning and overruling the judicial branch s decision. Finally, the judicial branch, while considered the weakest, also has checks on the other branches. Its check on the legislative branch is declaring laws that it creates unconstitutional. Similarly, it can declare executive acts

I was told that my cash was short by $1600 and was informed that my failure to reimburse Cheri Collins would result in her obtaining warrants for my arrest. It was further explained to me by Cheri that her word was all that was required to initiate said charges and she posed the question; Who do you think they will believe, me or you? It was not unheard of for my cash to be short on occasion as I did not always thoroughly count cash presented to me while in the jail, especially when multiple clients were present and waiting to have their person bailed out. • 11. Leslie Marmon Silko s The Border Patrol State Leslie Marmon Silko is a Tucson based Laguna Pueblo fiction author and poet. Having been based in the southwestern area since 1978, she began to notice the increase in border security and checkpoints. In 1994, her essay, The Border Patrol State, was published in The Nation magazine. In it, she explains her concerns and criticisms for the development and enforcement of the US Mexican border, arguing that it is an infringement on the free right to travel. She backs these arguments up with a series of anecdotal accounts and experiences, using few statistical evidence. As a result, Silko s essay becomes very powerful pathos wise, but weak when it comes to logos and ethos. Silko s audience seems to be targeted at people who would likely or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next few paragraphs is a retelling of her personal experience with the border patrol. In the story, she and her companion were on their way home from a book promotion. This creates credibility by establishing her as a well known author. At some point, they come up to a checkpoint where they are confronted by some border patrol officers. During the confrontation, she begins to get a feeling of menace from them liking them to Argentine police during Argentina s dirty war. This comparison helps push her argument on the infringement of rights by comparing border patrol actions to the oppressive actions of the Argentine police. It also allows readers who have gone through similar experiences to relate or affirm their feelings. During the confrontation, the border patrol officers bring in a dog to check for illegal substances or immigrants. She described the dog as a small female German shepherd which was treated very roughly by the border patrol officers. This use of diction paints the dog as a victim of sorts to the border patrol officer s brutish actions. This acts as an appeal to emotion, allowing readers to sympathize with the dog. The dog is first brought to the vehicle to check, but shows no interest. During the search she describes the dog as resistant and showing contempt for the officers. After searching the vehicle, the dog is made to search Silko and her companion. During the search, she and the dog made eye contact. In that moment,
  • 12. Comparing The Uffizi In Florence And Liverpool s Town Hall The two building I decided to compare were The Uffizi in Florence and Liverpool s Town Hall. The Uffizi, built by Alfonso Parigi and Bernardo Buontalenti in 1580 in a pre industrial Florence, was primarily built to house the offices of thirteen Florentine magistrates and guilds in one place , and from this position they would have had authority over the entire Republic of Florence. Whereas the Town Hall built from 1749 1754, during the industrial revolution, was designed by John Wood , but was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century, adding a dome and south facing portico to the existing building. It served a variety of functions, including the Mayor s Courtroom and a customs warehouse. Since 1952 it has been a grade 1 listed building , referred to as one of the finest surviving 18th century town halls . As a little girl I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian when I grew up. A child of an abusive home, I loved the escape that school provided me. I relished in homework and learning new things. I was often shifted from one abusive situation with my mother, to another abusive situation with my grandparents. At the age of 13 CPS removed me from my mother s care and placed me with my grandparents. My grandparent s home was both emotionally and verbally abusive. The International Society Of Blood Transfusion ( Isbt ) Chapter I 1 GENERAL INTRODUCTION 1 1 Overview of human blood groups The term blood group is usually restricted to blood cell surface antigens, and generally to red cell surface antigens. These antigens are molecules present on the red blood cells membrane, which can trigger an immune response if they are foreign to the body. Landsteiner and his colleagues (1, 2), discovered the first blood group system (ABO) in 1901, they observed that plasma from some individuals agglutinated the red cells from others. For the next 45 years, only those antibodies that directly agglutinate could be studied.
