Masculinity is in the news - but for the wrong reasons. Stress and mental health issues are on the rise while unconscious bias means it is harder for men to ‘lean in’ at home. Yet our constructs around masculinity mean that it is sometimes hard for men to ask for the support they need.
Perhaps it's time for masculinity to evolve. How can the workplace be a microcosm for the change we want to see in the world? How do we create a more modern, inclusive and open workplace culture that works for men, women and everyone? And what have people already done to create positive change in the workplace?
In this we provide valuable insights into how traditional constructs of masculinity are damaging business and how a modern and conscious version of masculinity can benefit men as well as everyone else in the workplace. Expect to come out with actionable changes (hacks) you can make both as an individual and as a business to create a more inclusive culture.
What really is "unconscious bias"? It impact our perception of the world and it influences the way we are being seen and interpreted by others. We are influenced by it every single day, with every decision we make. It is rife in the workplace too as our background, work experiences and cultural context, directly impact our decisions, often without us realizing it. In this presentation we explore what the unconscious bias is, how it impacts recruitment processes and what organisations can do to avoid it.

How to recognize and minimize unconscious bias in the workplaceCase IQ
The modern workplace should be an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees but that isn’t always the case. In fact, systemic inequality is the norm for a vast number of workplaces throughout North America, Europe and beyond. And while the BLM and MeToo movements have received much media attention, the underlying factors that contribute to the inequality they point out aren’t always addressed.
Implicit, or unconscious, bias is the root of many systemic inequities in the workplace. It’s important that we recognize our personal biases, take action to mitigate them and actively serve as an ally to others.
On June 10, join Catherine Mattice-Zundel, president of Civility Partners, a training and consulting firm focused on helping organizations build positive workplace cultures, as she outlines strategies for uncovering and reducing implicit bias in workplace decision-making.
The webinar will cover:
● The origins of bias and four different types of bias
● Risk factors that increase our likelihood to engage in bias
● How to compensate for and attempt to overcome bias through clear and tangible actions
● Strategies to combat microaggressions and other exclusive behaviors using simple, tried and true
intervention methods
Human leadership is grounded in self-respect and unconditional love. It comprehends and honors all people’s equal right to equity, dignity and integrity. It recognizes all people for who they are, accepts their unique contribution, treats them with respect and recognizes their value. Even for the toughest of scenarios, it leads with rational compassion to serve everyone right.

Question #1 Please choose ONE of the following to make an origi.docxsimonlbentley59018
Question #1:
Please choose ONE of the following to make an original response. Focus on quality, CRITICAL THINKING, sharing YOUR perspectives/ideas with a little bit of support for your assertions.
Violence and Women
:
Violence against females is a worldwide issue. What types of gender roles, cultural beliefs, political systems, and SOCIALIZATIONS influence and tolerate violence against women? Think deeply; what types of things are said or behaviors condoned or tolerated that cause, promote, or sustain violence against women? Provide support.
Violence and Men:
Violence against men, between men, and by men is a worldwide issue (no male bashing here, just going by prevalence rates). What types of gender roles, cultural beliefs, political systems, socialization processes, impact violence for men? Specifically, what do we say and do as a culture (not necessary you) to teach, condone, sustain certain masculine characteristics that could lead to violence? What can be done to help counteract unhealthy aspects of socialization? Pay attention to why you think women may have less rates of violence due to psychological or socialization processes.
Violence against non-binary
(including but not limited to binary transgender, non-binary transgender, non-binary in general, agender, bigender, gender fluid). What types of gender expected roles, cultural beliefs, socialization processes, attitudes, political systems, religious systems, and misinformation/myths contribute to violence towards non-binary persons? How does biopsychosocial scientific evidence challenge misconceptions? Include in your critical thought important measures needed to reduce violence.
Helping and Gender:
Discuss whether or not you see gender differences in helping behaviors of males vs. females. Be specific. Some examples: Are men more kind or females? How about instrumental vs. communicative style? Which gender might be rewarded more for specific helping behaviors: do we reward men for doing the dishes than women? Do we say men are instrumental ignoring the vast amount of "doing to show love" by women? Do we praise women for being more communicative in helping others while shaming men for having male to male "heart to hearts talks?" Does what we do, along gender lines, in terms of helping on a daily basis show a societal value and expectation that is gender influenced? Ex: Helping by caring for others, helping by protecting, helping by serving in different roles, help by risking life?
Self Efficacy
: Elaborate on the concepts of self-efficacy and gender. What aspects of gender identity or socialization may impact a person's sense of confidence, ability, and mastery? Elaborate and provide examples.
Sexuality as vulnerability:
Compare and contrast the concept of sexuality as a weakness/vulnerability between males, females, non-binary and those with non-hetero attractions. Provide some specific examples and let me see your critical thinking. Are male, female, and/or no.

Guy’s Code
When most people are thinking about a man, they will always think about toughness,
braveness, lack of emotions and successful. Men have been raised in societies which believe that
for a man to be a man, he has to follow code of rules and regulations considered socially
acceptable by other men. In “Bros Before Hos: The Guy Code,” Michael Kimmel, talks out
manhood, man like traits and rules guys follow throughout their life providing an idea of what a
real man should be like. Cheng Dianna states in her study that the guy codes are stereotypical
ideas of what it means to be a guy or what some sociologists call: hegemonic masculinity. The
code is perceived to be a norm that one should believe in and follow in order to prove his
manhood to others. These codes sometimes work against man’s best affecting them emotionally.
“Take it like a man” is one of Kimmel’s codes that I have grown hearing most fathers
living in my rural area. I’ll n.

A large proportion of our UK workforce is made up of carers. Whether they are caring for children, elderly or disabled relatives, our research has found how stressful and challenging caring for dependents can be. So much so that many carers want to reduce their hours of work or leave their companies as a result of the conflict of demands. We know that different types of carers face different issues and therefore require different support mechanisms from their colleagues, line managers and employers. Not only is getting this right crucial for their wellbeing but it is also fundamental to business success in terms of retaining talented people in the organisation.
This workshop is designed to help organisations understand the key barriers that currently exist in the workplace for carers and how to use hacking to make small changes to the way you work in order to be far more inclusive of parents and carers alike.
Report on the key themes from the Masculinity in the Workplace report organised in November 2018 by Token Man and #HeANDshe. Produced by The Hobbs Consultancy and Utopia
HeANDshe and Token Man, supported by The Hobbs Consultancy and Utopia, used International Men's Day to instigate a conversation about masculinity in the workplace.
Issues discussed included how a traditional view of masculinity is harming men and how the workplace can be a microcosm for the change we want to see in the world. How do we create a more modern, inclusive and open workplace culture that works for men, women and everyone? And what have people already done to create positive change in the workplace?
As we enter an Age of Creativity, driven by AI and new platforms, we believe you are going to need 4 Creative Superpowers to thrive rather than simply survive. These are Making, Hacking, Teaching and Thieving which are all brought to life in this presentation. However they are covered in far more details in our book Creative Superpowers: Equip yourself for the Age of Creativity which is available on Amazon and all good book stores.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
