1. Good Compare And Contrast Essay Topics
Writing an essay on the topic "Good Compare And Contrast Essay Topics" can present both
challenges and opportunities for exploration. The difficulty lies in the need for a thoughtful
selection of subjects that not only share commonalities but also exhibit significant differences,
ensuring a rich and engaging analysis. The process involves careful consideration of various
potential subjects, evaluating their relevance, and determining the depth of comparison.
One challenge is finding a balance between the familiarity of the topics and the novelty of the
insights offered. While popular subjects might attract more attention, they also demand a unique
perspective to stand out in a sea of similar essays. Conversely, selecting obscure topics may
provide a fresh viewpoint, but it could limit the availability of relevant information for a
comprehensive analysis.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement that highlights the essence of the chosen topics
and their points of comparison requires skill. The essay should not merely enumerate similarities
and differences but delve into the significance of these aspects, providing readers with valuable
insights.
Research plays a crucial role in the essay-writing process. Thorough investigation ensures that the
selected topics have enough material to support a meaningful discussion. Analyzing sources,
synthesizing information, and organizing ideas coherently demand time and effort.
Structuring the essay effectively adds another layer of complexity. The introduction must grab
the reader's attention, present the thesis statement, and provide a roadmap for what follows. The
body paragraphs should delve into specific points of comparison, presenting evidence and
analysis. A well-crafted conclusion should summarize the key findings and leave a lasting
impression on the reader.
In conclusion, writing a compare and contrast essay on a topic like "Good Compare And
Contrast Essay Topics" requires careful consideration of subject selection, a nuanced approach to
analysis, thorough research, and effective structuring. Despite the challenges, the process offers
an opportunity for intellectual exploration and the development of critical thinking skills.

2. Blackhorse Espresso Bakery And Bakery
Many know BlackHorse Espresso Bakery as the spot to grab a quick cup of coffee, a
fancy latte, a yummy panini, or get some studying in. Many, however, probably do
not know how this local chain began. BlackHorse Espresso Bakery is a series of four
small town coffee shops in San Luis Obispo. Since its establishment in 1995 as
Uptown Espresso, BlackHorse is now renamed, under a new ownership, and has
expanded from one to four locations throughout San Luis Obispo. According to
AnnMarie Cornejo, writer for The Tribune, Randy Coates opened the first store,
Uptown Espresso, on Higuera Street in 1995. Coates then introduced the name
BlackHorse in 2007. The name is said to be in honor of the legend, O. L. Deloloy, a
poor, immigrant grandfather who rode his black horse around Seattle stealing coffee
beans from the docks and brewing them into coffee to give to his neighbors. In
2008, Randy Coates retired and sold BlackHorse to Tom Brown and Greg Hind,
who in 2009 proceeded to open a second location in Broad Street Village (Cornejo,
2011). BlackHorse continued to grow in 2011 when they opened their Foothill
location and again in 2013 the LOVR location opened.
BlackHorse is not just any espresso and bakery; it is a company that prides itself in
a strong culture and vision for its aspirations. According to the company website,
BlackHorse s mission statement is to provide the best coffee and customer service by
equipping [their] baristas with top of the line espresso machines,
3. Middle Ages vs. the Renaissance Essay
There are many contrasts in the beliefs and values of the Renaissance and the
Middle Ages. The Middle Ages was a time of great suffering, including famine and
widespread disease. The Renaissance, however, was a revival of art, learning, and
literature. Their views of the purpose of life in the present world and man s place in
the world was, perhaps, the greatest contrast. However, their views on politics,
religion, and education were very different as well.
The purpose of life and man s place in the world was viewed differently during the
Middle Ages and the Renaissance. During the Middle Ages, also known as The Age
of Faith, man s purpose was to serve God. Life was looked upon as a journey. The
focus of life was on the afterlife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, Republicanism was considered to be the best form of government
during the Renaissance because the individual could realize his fullest potential by
serving the state. According to Leonardo Bruni, the rule of one person was harmful to
the common good. Thus, the republican government was considered to be stronger
than the monarchy.
Religion was also viewed differently. The Catholic Church was the one universal
church during the Middle Ages. People believed that only church officials could
interpret the scriptures. People also believed in the absolute authority of the church.
During the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation led to the development of many
churches. People believed that each individual could interpret the Bible for himself.
The church no longer had absolute authority as it did during the Middle Ages.
Education was approached differently as well. During the Middle Ages, the focus
of education was on studying the Bible and debating spiritual questions. Since the
common people were not allowed to read the Bible, they were told what to think.
The purpose of education in the Middle Ages was to pass the Moral Test and be
rewarded with eternal joy in the afterlife. However, during the Renaissance, the focus
of education was on learning from past history and experience and observations of
the present world. There was a scientific and rationalistic attitude toward viewing
4. The During Battle And The War Wars
From the beginning of time, war has been used to conquer lands, establish order,
enforce rules and settle disagreements. Over time, war tactics have progressed and
become more organized and efficient in accomplishing the goal of defeating the
enemy. There are thousands of advances in strategies used during battle and the war
wars are fought are have constantly changed. Looking back to when organized war
truly began many distinct, and commonly used, improvements can be seen. Such as,
chariots, hoplites, phalanxes, war elephants, and siege engines. Humans have always
been fascinated with speed and are constantly seeking ways to move faster. The
invention of the wheelgave birth to practical forms of transportation. Once the chariot

The walls of the chariot, or the box, were generally leather with a lightweight
wooden frame. Within the box were two men, a driver and a warrior. Projecting
from the chariot was a long pole angled upward and attached to a yoke , which was
mounted on the horses backs. At first there were two horses pulling each chariot, it
is believed later on the setup was changed to fit four horses. On the right side of the
chariot, the driver s job was to control the horses and to get the warrior in the best
position to make his attacks. His attacks could be made with a bow and arrow, spear,
mace, sword or dagger, however the bow was normally a prime choice for the
average warrior. A typical warrior riding into battle was in full armor and ready to
defend his chariot at all costs. The use of chariots spread very quickly as their
effectiveness was easily recognizable. The Shang of China adopted the concept of
chariots and modified them to fit three men. These three men were made up of a
driver, a warrior and his servant whose role was to replenish his arrows and have
weapons ready for his use at all times. In the Chinese culture, the chariots were used
as a way to jump into a new social class as well. Horses were so rare to own and
expensive to acquire that only the few who were wealthy enough to buy horses were
able to be noble

6. Essay On Hester Prynne
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the life of Hester Prynne as a
struggle with society, forced to wear a scarlet A as a public reminder and shaming of
the adultery she has committed. However, her lover, Arthur Dimmesdale, must only
live with the guilt of the deed, rather than being shamed by the Puritan world. Indeed,
the novel demonstrates the strength of the oppressed against the weakness of the
privileged when both are plagued with shame or guilt.
At the beginning, the town assembles as Hester Prynne displays her wicked scarlet A,
representing the unholy deed of adultery she has committed. The town scrutinizes
her, feeling she deserved worse, that they should have put the brand of a hot iron on
Hester Prynne s forehead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The members of Puritan society all pressure the wickedness of Hester s deed, and
their condescending manner puts Hester in an oppressed position, both as an
adulterer, and as a woman. As the woman in the adultery, she must take the public
shame and care for the daughter, Pearl, who is in her arms as she stands on the
scaffold, a thousand unrelenting eyes, all fastened upon her, and concentered at her
bosom (Hawthorne 10). But despite the prejudice Hester must endure from society,
rises much stronger and utilizes the scarlet letter to increase her worth. The book
alludes to Anne Hutchinson, who led a group of religious dissenters and this
allusion even anticipates the scarlet letter that she wears (Themes). Hester starts to
wear the A with pride, making it her own, and turned her problems into solutions.
Even the members of Puritan society were astonished, and even startled, to perceive
how her beauty shone out and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which
she was enveloped (Hawthorne 7). She wore misfortune as a badge, and used the A
in her own terms. Sally Buckner explains that despite Hester s isolation from Puritan
society and the normal people, she has come to terms
7. Media, Poor, And Media
It s an interesting world we live in when comedians such as Jon Stewart are more
trusted to give truthful, adequate information rather than news outlets and the media.
What seems like a curious predicament is really nothing more than the creation of a
monetized media, the value of a persons interest in a headline. In Media, poor ethics
and sensationalism caused by greed have led to unfortunate effects such as
misinformation, idolization of celebrities, and reduced credibility of news outlets as a
whole. First and foremost, the largest and most unfortunate result of this
sensationalism is misinformation to the general public. The need for viewership
causes media to exaggerate their stories, trying to create the biggest, boldest headline
for it, and in the process often citing inflated or even outright incorrect information.
The rampant question; who can make the biggest, boldest headline in the shortest
amount of time? The drive to captivate and take the attention of the public in order to
turn a profit is what drives this cash cow. Ultimately, in their eyes, you are nothing
more than a view to them. A number on a computer screen, that will transform into
money. This leads to misinformation of often important stories, which can create
unfortunate side effects such as racial tension and misdirected anger. As the internet
grows in popularity, the need for news has only increased, now booming in the way
of internet articles who are just as guilty of sensationalism. Click
8. The Argentina Dirty War
Throughout the years of 1976 and 1983, thousands of unexplained disappearances
littered the Argentina population under military rule. Although many people are not
interested in an event such as The Dirty War and it will go unnoticed by most; this
event effected the livelihood of the country. The complete reconstruction of the
government known to the Argentina people was destroyed in the matter of hours as
a military junta seized power. This became known as the Dirty War, and it would go
on to shape the history and leave a permanent mark on the families involved. In the
month of March, a small three man military junta invaded the presidential office in
Argentina. Under the control of Liet. Gen. Jorge Videla, the junta took over all

they themselves would be killed. Those who were taken by this group of individuals

9. Life Theory And Answers On Life s Theory Of Life
CHAPTER 2
THEORY OF LIFE AFTER DEATH
Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into
his nostrils and the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7.
Life is where we found our purpose, fulfillment and satisfaction in life. Life is seen
in different perspective because people experience it in different ways. Life is the
reason why we are here on earth breathing and kicking. Life is where we find the
meaning of our existence choosing to have relationship with God our Father. Life is
where he challenge us to fulfill his earthly mission. According to all about world

It is the avoidance of death. God is all powerful, all knowing, all good, and present in
everywhere. Then, why God did not allow us to be immortal? Why do we die?
Why can t we just live forever? There are reasons why God did not allow us to be
immortal. He did that for us to know that He is definitely above every little thing.
We are made in His likeness, but we will never be like Him. Another thing is, He is
perfect, and He could not make other things perfect, too. God, himself, is the only
perfect for us to understand that He has more authority. He is always above us. He
allowed mortality and death for us to learn that we could not live without Him. He
also made us mortal so that we can be destroyed if we do not obey Him and His
words. As stated in Romans 6:23, For the wages of sin is death. But the free gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We will only have the ability to be
immortal if we follow and love Him and our neighbors. It helps us follow a path and
guidance to love and take care each
10. Argument Against A Paid Maternity Leave Essay
All of the above are strong arguments for the pressing necessity of a mandated paid
maternity leave. Nevertheless, the many opponents of this initiative are arguing
otherwise.
One argument against a paid maternity leave is based on the assumption that one of
the parents should not be working in the first place. In other words, a full time stay at
home parent is beneficial to the development of the child and therefore a paid limited
time maternity leave is redundant and is simply a waste of resources. Suzanne
Venker, a writer, insists that According to Public Agenda, 70% of parents with
children under age five believe having a parent at home is best. And 63% disagree
that children in daycare receive just as good care and attention as with a stay at
home parent. These findings are commensurate with 2014 Pew data that shows 60%
of Americans say children are better off when a parent stays home to focus on the
family. ( Why Paid Maternity Leave Is Not the Answer. ) According to these
findings, Americans are unlikely to agree to encourage mothers to put their children
in childcare and go back to work, let alone spend money on a paid maternity leave.
Nice try, Ms. Venker, but let s continue to read the mentioned 2014 Pew data till the
end: Stay at home mothers are younger, poorer and less educated than their working
counterparts. For example, 34% of stay at home mothers are poor, compared with
12% of working mothers. ( 7 Key Findings about Stay at home Moms. ) Let s

To what extent was the process of decolonization in Southeast Asia a violent struggle?
The process of decolonization in Southeast Asia was not totally a violent struggle due
to the divers natures of the process of decolonization and the fight for independence
in the various Southeast Asian nations. Furthermore, although the struggle for the
withdrawal of the colonial masters was lined with bloodshed and violence, there were
still moments in which peaceful negotiations managed to take place, rendering the
process of decolonization in Southeast Asia a largely violent struggle as one cannot
say that it was totally violent due to the differing situations that occurred in the

This thus shows the violence of the Colonial masters while the colonized nation was
fighting for independence. Moreover, the colonial master s use of force to control
and exert power further adds to the violence in the struggle for independence during
the process of decolonization. Finally, during the Spanish American war of 1898, the
US obtained Aguinaldo s cooperation in the battle again the Spanish fleet in Manila
Bay in return for Philippines independence. However, one the conflict ended and
Spain was defeated, the US annexed Philippines in the Treaty of Paris and this was
met with much unhappiness in the Philippines as the Philippines did not want to be
colonized yet again and wanted independence. As such, a war between the
revolutionaries and the Americans ensued, with the revolutionaries crushed by the
US forces and Aguinaldo arrested, asserting American authority and power over the
Philippines. As such, it may be seen that the colonial powers used violence to assert
and reinforce their power, thus making the entire process of decolonization extremely
violent due to the colonialists unwillingness to pull out of their colonies. Finally, it
may be said that the process of decolonization in Southeast Asia was not totally a
violent struggle as peaceful negotiations also managed to hasten the process of
decolonization in Southeast Asia and it helped the Southeast Asian nations attain
independence relatively peacefully.
12. Trophy Hunting
Two months ago, moral panic hit the US when once obscure African lion, Cecil, met
a seemingly illegal slaughter by Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer at Zimbabwe s
Hwange National Park, a short distance of about 8,000 miles from Miami, Florida.
Cecil, an unique and beloved lion with black mane, was illegal murdered when
Palmer, a trophy hunter, reportedly paid Zimbabwean guides for the opportunity to
slaughter the creature inside the park, using a carcass to lure him out (Walters, 2015).
Although lions are typically one of the species that can be legally hunted, outraged
people across the world are wondering when the African government will do
something about the concerns of lions becoming extinct unlike and unimportant to
how 99 percent of currently threatened species are at risk from humanactivities,
primarily those driving habitat loss, introduction of exotic species, and global

These grotesque acts of trophy hunting can be easily stopped by the citizens of
African countries, but they are too busy with the pervasive corruption that is
prevalent in their country (Duckworth, 2004b) to realize it. It s not as if South
Africa has the largest hunting industry in terms of numbers of operators, visiting
hunters, animals shot and revenues generated (Lindsey et al. 1997 2006), while
Kenya itself lost an estimated $20 40 million a year in lost revenues when trophy
hunting was banned (Elliott and Mwangi, 1998; Hurt and Ravn, 2000). While we
rear our righteous head to this horrid reveal of immorality, we should lead Africa in
our American ways of incorruptibility that is not at all tained by the recent trend of
ag gag bills that makes it impossible for activists to expose industrial animal
operations via media or undercover investigation (Runyon,

mother. She may not say it herself, but Ellen loves her mother. By sleeping beside her
dead mother, the heartbreaking picture of childhood innocence, Ellen is attempting to
hold on in the only way she can.
When she stays for a short time with her Aunt Betsy, she assumes she is staying
with her forever; the same holds true when she is in the temporary care of her art
teacher. Eventually, Ellen s desire for a family becomes so strong that she petitions a
foster mother herself, journeying to the woman s house and even offering her money.
Ellen s past living situations all included a house in which she lived, but now she has
truly found the family she needs and cherishes.
Chris McCandless is a wolf without a pack. According to his family, he had always
been prone to straying from his family and friends, even going as far as to take a
solo road trip across the country the summer after his high school graduation.
During his last year in college, he lived without a telephone and had not attempted
to contact his family very often. In Into the Wild Krakauer reports that after Chris
graduates from college, he was unencumbered, emancipated from the stifling world
of his parents and peers. . . a world in which he felt grievously cut off from the raw

16. Acts Of Deviance From Members Of Our Society
Over the course of four days, I ve observed numerous acts of deviance from members
of our society. The ones that stood out to me the most were as follows...
April 1, 2016 In the Tanger Outlets, I observed a woman deliberately skip a line of
at least 10 people. This caused negative spontaneous reactions from everyone in line.
As I was waiting in line to pay for my shirt, a woman walked right ahead of everyone
who was already in line and then went to the next available cashier. Immediately, the
first man who had been waiting called after the woman. The woman, however, just
told the guy that she was in a rush. Soon, everyone else who was waiting in line
expressed their own angry by participating in insulting the woman who skipped them.

I felt sympathy for the man as well as some other people in line, but also suspicion
on what the man s story was. I felt compelled to know why this man was dressed in
this way, but also fearful of getting too close. Some other people in line looked at
the man in disgust, yet no one volunteered to buy the guy a cupcake. The labeling
theory helps to explain why the behavior of the man who appeared homeless is
considered negatively deviant to some people, groups, and cultures but may be
positively deviant to others.
April 3, 2016 When I was at the grocery store, a few other customers and I saw a
middle aged woman put the milk in the cereal aisle. This small act of deviance
created an unhappy feeling among everyone who observed. I believe this because
the family who saw the woman do this began murmuring about what the lady just
did. An elderly woman sighed when she saw this as if in complete disgust at what
the woman just did. Personally, i was in agreement with these head shakes and
sighs. I also believed it was ridiculous that the woman didn t have the decency to
put the milk back in the freezers so that it wouldn t go bad. Her action received
negative reactions as she broke a informal sanction found in grocery stores around
the globe. This informal sanction was simply that, as members of society, we should
put things back where we found them. She also broke a formal sanction made by the
owner of the grocery store
17. Essay On Due Process
The term due process of law is in the 5th amendment of the U.S Constitution. It
states No person shall . . . be deprived of life, liberty or property, without due
process of law (The V Amendment of the U. S Constitution). Due process also
comes from the sixth and fourteenth amendment of the U.S Constitution. This term
means that it s a constitutional law that is guaranteed that every citizen gets every
legal proceeding. They will be treated equal and the individual will be noticed of
those proceedings, the individual is given the chance to be heard before the
government does take life, liberty, or property away. It gives guarantee that a law
isn t unreasonable or arbitrary. In the sixth Amendment it guarantees the seven
specific rights to any person getting charged. The seven rights are right to speedy
trial, to a public trial, to be judged by an impartial jury, right to know the accusers are
and to know the nature of the crime being committed and evidence held against you.
This connects to due processby giving a notice of the individual rights and being able
to have those rights, however on the upside that notice will better help a criminal find

deception is lying, it is immoral and I will give reasons for why this is the case.
After my presentation, I will take a look at some possible criticisms of my arguments
and then answer those criticisms. Then, I will present my conclusions.
In Element 2, I will contend that people for whatever reason choose to lie about things
in order to persuade others into thinking that the truth is on their side. Lying takes
a group of actions or words that are clearly false to the perpetrator to try to bait
someone into thinking that it is truthful. When deceptions are thought to be lies, it
can be a very eerie situation because the person that was lied to did not get
complete or enough adequate information of what was told. Yes, what someone said
may have been truthful, but not all of the information was being told. The person
receiving the information is left without additional pieces to the story although he
or she does not know this, which makes the person assume that what you said was
the end all be all to the situation. These situations can likely equate to being a lie
because of the information that was omitted. Once the person finds out that pieces
of information was left out or incomplete, they will feel like they were lied to.
Because the rest of the information or story was not fulfilled, the person can also be
19. Themes In The Hobbit
In the book the Hobbit, a young hobbit named Bilbo Baggins encounters a wizard
named Gandalf who urges him to join him and a group of dwarves on a journey.
Bilbo declines Gandalf s offer after hearing about the dangers they may encounter but
soon thinks twice about his decision and joins Gandalf and the dwarves on the
journey. All through the journey, Bilbo and his crew face many obstacles including
malicious goblins, wolfs, trolls, and other geographical obstacles. Throughout the
book, many important themes can be represented by different characters. One theme
represented in the story is Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes which is heavily
portrayed by Bilbo as he faces challenges that many doubt him about. In addition,
another theme that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important part of the story was when J.R.R Tolkien started Bilbo off as a
humble, small hobbit then gradually maturing in the story into a brave warrior
doing what it takes to make things right. Tolkien s writing helps the readers feel
like they are in Bilbo s shoes and also feel that they become braver and wiser as the
story goes on. Tolkien s elaborative description of Bilbo throughout the story helps
show that bravery does come in all shapes and sizes. In addition, Tolkien first starts
the story with some doubt and whether or not Bilbo can survive this strenuous
journey. Tolkien gives a sense of doubt to the readers questioning them if Bilbo
will survive or even go on the journey or will he become a brave warrior. Tolkien
then makes Bilbo go on the journey and helps begin a new theme, It s good to try
something new. This was Bilbo s first journey so it was obviously something new
for Bilbo and the readers to read. After that, Bilbo s courage and bravery builds up
and he evolves greatly as a character. Tolkien slowly builds up Bilbo s courage
throughout the story to prove the theme that It s good to try something new. It was
good for Bilbo to go on the journey and good for the reader as they watch watch
Bilbo become a better and braver character. This is why J.R.R Tolkien s gradual style
of writing helps support both of
20. Age Of Earth
The age of the Earth can be accurately determined. Through various methods of
relative dating, and absolute radiometric dating, scientists can very precisely
determine the age of the Earth. The key to the age of our planet lies not in one
evidence, but in the cross examination of multiple evidences. In this paper, we will
explore those evidences and find that the secret of Earths age lives in the relationship
between them. By putting the pictures of fossils in chronological order in the
activity Using Fossils to Tell Deep Time , we discovered that fossils can be a
valuable tool in relative dating. Due to the principle of horizontal originality, we
know that layers of sediment are deposited horizontally; because of this, we can
extrapolate that fossils of the same specieswill... Show more content on

The hotpots create islands; and when the tectonic plates move, the island moves
with it. This creates an opening above the hotspot, which allows the hotspot to
create more islands. The older the islands are, the smaller they get because they
have more time to be eroded. Also, the older the islands will be further away from
the hotspot because they have been on the tectonic plates longer and therefore have
had more time to move. This phenomena shows relative age because we can see the
age of the Earth through the size of the islands and the distance they are from the
hotspot. In the third activity, we found that mid ocean ridges are the birthing place
of tectonic plates. The isochron map showed us that the closer to the ridges, the
younger the oceanic floor is. The closer to a continent, the older the rock is. The
reason for this is because the mid ocean ridges create crust, and where the oceanic
crust meets the continental crust, the crust is destroyed (subduction zone). This
shows relative age because the oceanic crust s age can be seen relative to the mid
ocean ridges and the subduction
21. Bystander Effect
The Bystander Effect
Everybody wants to be a hero and to change the world. To make it a better place
and make a difference. So why then in the face of danger do we back down? Why
do we just stand by as cruel things happen to good people. Science has coined this
term as the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as, a social
psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer
any means of help to a victim when other people are present. You can see this effect
in full in the movie, The Hunger Games, as people just stand by and let the killing of
innocent children happen year after year.
Now this might seem like a crazy idea because in you mind if someone really
needed help you would always help. This is not always the case though. In the book,
No One Helped : Kitty Genovese, New York City, and the Myth of Urban Apathy, the
author, Marcia Gallo, highlights the events that happened that lead to the
understanding of the event known as the Bystander Effect. It was because of this
event, that the term bystander effect was first used and brought to light not only to
the scientific community but also to the public. March 27, 1964 Kitty Genovese ...

And more importantly, why does this happen. Well there are a number of different
reasons that this happens.in the book, Bystander Apathy and the Territorial
Imperative, A.R Gillis and John Hagan highlight the science behind the Bystander
Effect. They highlight the finding that one of the reasons that people fail to get
involved is the idea of disorganization; the idea that in high stimuli situations, such
as city life, one s stress is increased and the need to blend in and not cause attention
increases. Another reason that people fail to get involved is because they do not
know the other people involved. It has been studied that if a friend was in trouble a
person would feel socially accountable to help rather than with a

Culture is something developed over time by a group of people not just created by
one person. Referring back to gender role in society this was not something that
humans were born with but it was created and reinforced over long period of time.
Now more recently we can see these behaviors changing where women work more,
men help with chores, and the roles are starting to merge. Culture also has a way of
shaping one s view and values in the world. Culture also shapes our behavior and
our reason for doing certain things which is known as cultural behavior. The
difficult thing about cultures is that no two cultures are the same so it is not a one
size fits all. You have to take time to learn each culture and some cultures you will
fit in better into than others. This is like a work place have that has developed a
culture that constantly changes as new employees come and old one leave. If you are
more laid back then you will fit into a work culture that is more flexible then one that
is tightly structured.
Social self is how you think others see you and if you belong and or connect with

It was many and many a year ago begins the narrator, reminiscent of the once upon
a time introduction of fairytales ( Annabel Lee 1). This fairytale like introduction
to the poem gives it an air magic and mystery. The vagueness characterizes the
narrator s feelings toward everything else. The setting does not really matter to
him. Annabel Lee does. Since nothing else matters, he is able to completely ignore
death and thus death has no power over him as it does with the narrator of The
Raven. Likewise, the same fairytale like introduction hints at timelessness and
immortality. Time cannot touch his love. His love cannot decay nor can it be
controlled. He has his happy ending characteristic of fairytales. He has an immortal
love that will never die. In addition to the fairytale aspect of the poem, Annabel Lee
s sepulcher is by the sea, implying that it has a view of the horizon an infinite view (

their love. Death cannot touch the love, being immortal. It therefore has no power to

In the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, the main character, Wade, changes
throughout the book. This is due to the experiences with trying to get the answer to
the puzzles with some of these being his living quarters and then getting thrown into
jail.
In the beginning of the book, Wade is a more selfish type of person and he has to
fend for himself due to his background and home life. At the start, he came from a
poor family so he had to be resourceful. He showed us that he ...was curled up in an
old sleeping bag in the corner of the trailer s tiny laundry room, wedged into the
gap between the wall and the dryer (Cline 13). The main character, Wade, was
forced to sleep in the laundry room due to how overcrowdedness of the stack he
was in. Even though he had a large amount of his family living in the same small
apartment with him, he was still able to make room for himself. He made a small
spot for himself to be comfortable in. This sets up how many people are in that
small area and adds to the loss that will come later in the story and that will play a
part in changing him. He also was a very determined person. He was sometimes
obsessive with the ways he studied the life of Halliday. He states that For the past
five years, I d devoted all my free time to learning as much as I possibly could
about James Halliday (Cline 52). Wade was obsessed with the hunt and spent a large
part of a long while studying everything that the creator of the OASIS had loved in
his life.

Another act of betrayal is when Gogol lies to his mother about visiting their home

during pregnancy, is a problem more pregnant women are facing. The exact
prevalence rate of gestational diabetes mellitus is unknown but in the United States
it is estimated to affect anywhere from one to 14 percent of pregnancies (Desisto,
Shin, Sharma, 2014). There are several risk factors which increase a woman s risk
for gestational diabetes. Some of these risks include: family history of diabetes

Complications to the fetus include: macrosomia, hypoglycemia, neural tube defects,
preterm delivery, shoulder dystocia, hyperbilirubinemia, and being large for
gestational age (Elkins Smith Taylor, 2013) (Kim, 2010). So, the purpose of this
paper is to discuss the care management strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle in
obese pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus, to control their
gestational diabetes mellitus without the intervention of insulin treatment and to
prevent complications from gestational diabetes mellitus.
Care Management Process
Expected Outcomes Gestational diabetes is a significant diagnosis in pregnancy but it
is expected that obese women diagnosed with gestational diabetes will be able to
control their diabetes without the intervention of insulin treatment. They should be
able to do this through lifestyle changes. By controlling their gestational diabetes
mellitus, the women will be able to reduce the risk or even prevent maternal
complications and fetal complications associated with gestational diabetes mellitus.
Assessments
The first step in managing gestational diabetes to reduce risks of maternal and fetal
complications, one must be diagnosed with it. To be diagnosed women go through a
screening process. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the
American Diabetes Association recommend that all women should have their initial
screening

Food is flown in from different outside agencies including the United Nations but
about 80% of it is stolen before it gets to the starving people.5 This leads to
Operation Restore Hope in which the UN sent in 35,000 troops to try to restore
order throughout the land. Deployment Phase By November of 1992, conditions
were getting worse instead of better. Food was still being stolen and sold off to
clan leaders while aid workers were threatened and attacked. Americans were
stunned at the lawlessness and starvation. Thousands of troops were ordered into
Somalia to assist in the aid by President George H. Bush. Now food was getting to
the people that it was intended for but distrust for the American soldiers was

2.The employee rights during the employee relationship 2.1.The importance of
work life balance and related legislation concerning holidays, rest periods, working
hours and night working It is imperative that the employee can balance his/her
working life against his/her personal life. With sufficient time off and rest periods,
employees will feel looked after and be motivated to put in more effort. There will
be a reduction of mistakes because the employee has had adequate rest which
results in a more positive working environment. Employers who introduce such
practices in the work place in order to help employees achieve a better and
satisfactory work/life balance can expect to see an increase in motivation,
enhanced performance/productivity and greater staff loyalty. By implementing a
positive work/life balance, companies are successful, secure a good reputation and
promote positive employee relations. The Working Time Regulations 1998
stipulates that employers should provide employees with the following basic
rights: 28 days holiday (paid) for full time employees (part time employees would
receive this on a pro rata basis); a rest period of 20 minutes every 6 hours worked

Lives...
Introduction
The concepts of at risk and risk are prominent in much of the literature on the
sociology of youth. The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative
sides of focusing on risk in young people s lives, and contend that although the
concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours, there is a need to be cautious
in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions. Firstly, the
approaches of at risk and risk taking are defined; in order to understand the different
ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the
identification of at risk youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng s edgework
notion to comprehend individuals voluntary risk taking . Secondly, discussions the
usefulness of the concepts in promoting our comprehension of young individuals
behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of the approaches are discussed to
highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it may lead to
placing the blame on at risk youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than
their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the risk taking notion.

There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked
risk and young people together. The first concept is at risk and the term is often used

1.What did you notice that was unique or surprising about this school?
There were numerous unique and surprising aspects of HДЃlau KЕ« MДЃna. One of
the earliest things I noticed was how friendly the students and staff are. I was
greeted often by students, and the staff were very welcoming. I saw that everyone
seemed close, like a family. The schoolhas a very warm atmosphere.
Another thing I observed was that the school is student directed. Students monitored
and helped each other. Further, when they faced a problem, they were encouraged to
fix it on their own. One student, on her own volition, took my group on a tour around
the garden, identifying different plants and telling us about them.
Lastly, I observed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my family, literacy is highly regarded, so my mother would take me to the
library frequently and we would often read together. Many of the books that we
read originated from Japan along with a few other countries. In addition, she tried
to teach me Japanese and French (along with the Standard English lessons). French
was dropped rather early, but I continued taking Japanese throughout the rest of my
school years. When I transferred to public school, my interests did not change. I
continued to read whenever I had free time and many of those books were
mythology and folklore. Once I graduate and earn my degree, I would like to try
traveling to other countries to teach. My mother taught English to ELL for some
time, so I would say culture played a large role in my education and who I am
37. Stanley Milgram s The Perils Of Obedience
Obedience is a basic behavior that practically everyone has. Unfortunately, some
authority is essential for community living. In a way, obedience is a form of
submission as old as time itself. Society appears threatened by disobedience and
hesitation. In the experiments described in The Perils of Obedience , ethics and
hesitation get in the way of obedience. Unfortunately, this type of behavior displays
disobedience in the eyes of society. Stanley Milgram experimented, how much pain
an ordinary person would inflict on another person simply because he was ordered to
by an experimental scientist (62). The experiments have a wide variety of people
playing the teacher and the learner. As a beginning prediction, Milgram and others
thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experiments have a teacher, learner, and an experimenter. The learner is
positioned in a kind of small electric chair, and is strapped there. The teacher reads
off some word pairings to the learner, and if the learner is wrong, a shock is
administered. For each wrong answer, the shocks build, and become stronger. What
the teacher does not realize is that the learner is just an actor, making the teacher
appear naive. Even though the experimenter takes full responsibility of what happens
to the learner, the teacher feels horrible about their actions. The experiment causes
discomfort for both the teacher and the learner. As the shocks grow stronger, tension
begins to arise inside of the teacher. Hesitating slowly consumes the teacher, but the
experimenter commands him to pursue. After hesitation, the teacher s ethics get in
the way of what they are told to do. Even though the experimenter takes full
responsibility, the teacher still feels they have some responsibility for their actions. It
gets to the point where the disobedience starts to kick in. The teacher slowly starts to
say no to the experimenter out of pity for the learner. The experimenter tries his best
to make the teachers proceed with the experiment. Unfortunately, the vast majority
would go against their own conscience to please the experimenter. Even though the
majority know it was wrong and some even protested, but they are proud that they
did a decent job, and they pleased the
38. Summary Of The I Robot
Robot Hey! Robot! a voice called from behind thirteen year old Artemis. The voice
was deep and croaky, and that voice belonged to the school bully, Mikey Duchance.
A fat, stocky, bulky boy with a pig like face. Artemis had had the nickname since
kindergarten, since she was seemingly emotionless. She hated the nickname, as she
knew she wasn t an emotionless tin can that did whatever you told it to do. She
was a thirteen year old girl who could hide her emotions very well, and could see
the little shades of grey no one else saw. Hey, C3PO! You got a brain in there?
Mikey teased, knocking in the side of her head with his large fist. Artemis rolled her
eyes, and continued eating her lunch, while also working on a story she d been...

She had never exploded like that before, and had never wanted to. Artemis realized
that her parents would be home soon, and she didn t feel like staying. She left a
note on the table saying that she was spending the night at a friends house, and she
d be back about noon. Once that was done, she grabbed a bag, and packed it with
three water bottles, some food, a sleeping bag, an extra blanket, a small pocket
knife, some matches, a book, a pencil and paper, and an extra pair of clothes for
morning. Once that was done, she set out. Artemis had always liked the woods,
since they were peaceful and she could be alone. It also helped her to think when
she was writing, just sitting in a tree, listening to the birds chirping and feeling a
soft breeze blow through her thick, black hair. It was perfect. Once she had reached
the spot where she usually went, she began to set up her camp. Artemis made a
small fire pit and made a structure above it which her dad taught her to make. It was
a small stand made out of sticks that could hold cans of food. For food, she had
packed a can of corn, a can of beans, some bread, a jar of peanut butter, and an
apple. Once she had positioned the cans on the small stand, she lit the fire with a
match. To pass the time, she grabbed out her book and started to read. But for once
she couldn t concentrate on her reading, and could only think about the day s events.

39. Alexander s Steakhouse
The most fabulous restaurant I ve ever eaten at was Alexander s Steakhouse.
Alexander s Steakhouse is the best restaurant because of the short waits, the service
is great, and the portions are enormous. Short waits at restaurants are always a plus
when picking out the right spot to pig out at. Most restaurants you get the little
buzzing timer that tells you when your table is ready, but these don t even exist at
Alexander s. When I went to Alexander s we walked right in and got our table.
Thinking of nice and extravagant restaurants you would think there would be long
dreadful waits, but not at Alexander s. Along with your meal you get a salad. There s
a salad bar at the front of the restaurant that you can go to for unlimited salad without
40. Iroquois Constitution
The Iroquois Constitution forms the first democratic republic and example of
sovereign governance by the consent of a people in North American history. The
confederacy of the League of Five Nations, who constructed the Iroquois Constitution,
preceded the European colonization. Historical records and references provide
evidence of the strong influence the Iroquois legislative process and constitution had
on shaping the ideas and words of the US Constitution. Specific and distinct
similarities unquestionably mark the Iroquois Constitution as a strongly influential
model America s founding fathers used in forming our United StatesConstitution,
despite criticism to the contrary. The connection between the two is referred to as the

Chiefs who were, in fact, chosen by the oldest living female, or clan mother, led the
clans. The sachems were nominated through the clan mothers. This gave the women
an equal role in power and leadership of government, whereas American woman
would wait over 130 years to have an official voice, and only recently have begun to
have truly consequential influence of a magnitude their Iroquois predecessors had
long exercised.
Numerous sources concur with the thesis that the Iroquois Constitution had a strong
influence on the founding fathers. One of the first historical recognitions recorded
by the European colonists of the Iroquois Confederacy was by the Dutch, after they
had allied with a neighboring tribe that challenged the Five Nations in 1624.
(McIntosh 22) That alliance baffled the Iroquois, because they had no issues with the
Dutch and did not understand their involvement. Following victory by the Iroquois,
they assembled a Two Row Wampum belt to explain the Great Laws of Peace to the
newcomers and acknowledge mutual respect. That Wampum belt was white, with
two purple rows down the middle. The rows depicted the straight courses that each
group of people was responsible for steering to maintain peace, indicating that neither
side should attempt to interfere with or force upon the other laws, traditions,
languages or religious beliefs. ( Official website of the Mohawk Nation )

41. Auditing Self Regulation and Government Regulation
Over the years the accounting profession has been subject to various forms of
oversight with varying degrees of success. Nevertheless, it used to be self regulating.
But a series of financial scandals involving once prominent companies such as Enron,
WorldCom and Parmalat lead the authorities to consider whether the accounting
profession s self regulatory oversight system was appropriate to meet the necessary
objectives. These corporate failures had shown that the self regulatory system did not
produce credible results and had the potential to undermine investor confidence in the
integrity of the securities markets (The Treasury, 2006). As a consequence a number
of countries have reviewed their arrangements for independent oversight of... Show

The only caveat is that this regulation needs to be efficient and effective. Whatever
regulatory framework is used, be it administered by the profession or government, it
must give the regulator appropriate incentives to act in the public interest. Regulators
must have a clear, overarching purpose and the ability to resist any moves towards
regulation that are self interested or motivated by special interest groups. Serving the
public interest means having regulations that achieve their aim of being effective and
efficient without imposing unnecessary costs. The benefits of the regulation that is,
its effectiveness in protecting the public interest must exceed its costs. The
International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has undertaken
work in this area and has developed a series of principles for regulators. These
principles hold that: The responsibilities of the regulator should be clear and
objectively stated; The regulator should be operationally independent and
accountable in the exercise of its functions and powers; The regulator should have
adequate powers, proper resources and the capacity to perform its functions and
exercise its powers; The regulator should adopt clear and consistent regulatory
processes; and The staff of the regulator should observe the highest professional
standards, including appropriate
