Birds are vertebrate animals that are warm-blooded, have feathers, lay eggs, and possess wings adapted for flight. Their bodies are often streamlined with light bones containing air cavities. They lack teeth but have beaks adapted for feeding. Birds have specialized respiratory, circulatory, digestive and reproductive systems adapted for flight including hollow bones, spongy lungs, a four-chambered heart, and a single left ovary. Common examples are pigeons, parrots, sparrows, owls, penguins, hummingbirds, crows and ostriches.
