Cedrics High School Failure
To what extent did cedric s high school fail to provide him with an excellent education? How did
cedric s experiences in highschool affect how he approached his college education and how he
performed in college? Defend your argument referencing specific events from the book a hope in the
unseen.
In his junior year, Cedric is admitted to the Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science summer
program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He believes this is the start of a new life for
him, but when summer arrives he finds the classes much more difficult than his fellow MIT students
who attended better schools and were better versed in math and science. Though he makes friends at
MIT, he also sees that his ghetto background sets him apart from them. At the end of the program,
Cedric is told by faculty director Leon Trilling that he would not be welcome in MIT as a college
student. This infuriates Cedric, and he finds solace in returning to Ballou that fall despite offers to
attend better schools for his Senior year.
Cedric initially disavows his previous ambitions, then discovers Brown University is particularly
accommodating to minority students. He files for early admission and tells everyone he ll be accepted.
This indeed becomes the case, though the good news is tempered by Barbara s concern that Cedric
may lose his old identity as he moves forward in life. As his senior year winds down, Cedric visits
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He also finds

Introduction Of A Foreign Species
Biodiversity Introduction
For once in history, the introduction of a foreign species has had paramount importance throughout
their evolution for many terrestrial ecosystems. Apis Mellifera also commonly known as the Western
Honey bee, is a vital component to global biodiversity. The honey bee provides ecosystem services of
considerable ecological significance for the reproduction of plants and for the pollination of many
economically important crops. Although the place of origin of Apis Mellifera is unclear, North
America was introduced to the Western Honey bee around 1622 by European colonists (Weber, E.
2012). Amongst the eight species in the genus Apis, Apis Mellifera is the most widely valued honey
bee in the United States(citation). Apis Mellifera live in nests, called a hive, and typically house 40,00
bees, which are divided into three different types of adult bees: Queen, Worker, Drone(Winston, M. L.,
1987). Majority of the bees living in the beehive are Worker bees that provide majority of the
fundamental processes needed to sustain the beehive. Honey bees consume processed nectar (honey)
and pollen (bee bread) which are both found in Angiosperms (flowering plants). Nectar, which bees
convert to honey serves as a primary source of carbohydrates (Winston, M. L., 1987). This provides
honey bees energy for flight and product for colony maintenance. Honey bees will die within a few
days if they do not have a surplus abundance of honey (Winston, M. L., 1987). Pollen is

Analysis Of Maus And The Sandman By Neil Gainman
When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars and educators
consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass culture entertainment or as
pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic novels have proven to be worthy of being
considered great literature and valuable tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed
simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a
specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading comprehension, which has
proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic novels offer value, variety, and new medium for
literacy that acknowledges the impact of visuals. Novels such as Maus by Art Spiegelman and The
Sandman (vertigo) by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all
curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that reflect the diverse
nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between these two demonstrate the strengths of
the graphic novel genre, and how they can be considered valuable sources of education. The use of
word image combination allow the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words
allot. For visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of graphic
novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners to digest. Maus by Art
Spiegelman is one of

Skunk Hour Essay
Frustration s Armored Aroma
Skunk Hour by Robert Lowell and The Armadillo by Elizabeth Bishop are two closely related poems.
Both share the theme of an animal carrying with it natural defenses, and the image of an isolated
spectator. However, there is one important contrast between these poems: The Armadillo portrays a
creature who cannot comprehend the events destroying the life about it, whereas the speaker in Skunk
Hour understands, possibly too well, the events affecting its life.
By using the skunk as a descriptive element for his character, Robert Lowell increases the distance
between the character and the brief glimpse of society portrayed in the poem. Skunks, generally, are
avoided by everyone because of their reputation for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The
speaker answers this question in the second half of the stanza.
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;Lights turned down,
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;they lay together, hull to hull,
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;where the graveyard shelves on the town...
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;My mind s not right.
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;(Lowell 27 30)
Here, the speaker admits his actions are wrong. Later in this paper, the fact that the speaker in Skunk
Hour is lonely will become an important contrast to the character in The Armadillo.
At the end of the poem, Lowell contrasts as well as likens the character to the nocturnal skunk.
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;Nobody s here
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;only skunks, that search
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;in the moonlight for a bite to eat
amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;(Lowell 36 38)
Like the skunks of the poem, the speaker is a creature of the night. Although he does not search for
food as the skunks do, the speaker may very well be searching for a bite of life.
amp;#9;In The Armadillo by Elizabeth Bishop, the speaker is once again a spectator of sorts, watching
amp;quot;the frail, illegal fire balloons appear amp;quot; (Bishop 33). Again, like the speaker in
Skunk Hour, this character is lonely. In the fifth stanza, the hot air balloons are fading into distance
and the darkness of night. However, the spectator feels forsaken by their departure.

Stephanie Wallace Essay
Not only were these contributions added, but the entire scientific process had been laid in in what we
now know as the Scientific Method, the most basic structure of good science. These islamic scholars
themselves preserved the writings of many famous greek philosophers like Aristotle,
Plato, and Socrates, thus showing that there was no predominant aggression between the two.
After the decline of the Islamic Golden Age came the rise of Christianity around the 12th century and
was the next seat of knowledge. At this point there was no apparent schism between theism versus
science. During the beginning of this century and the next religion and science

During this time, in defence of the predominant seat of christianity, the Catholic Church, in that time

to do was to say to just understand it literally and throw the problem away in jail. This is what
happened to Galileo. This started what is believed to be the first major crack in the relationship of
science and religion, although it was not as bad as most people know as many religious still work in

Study Of The Ethics Committee Of Our University
This prospective study was performed during the period from April 2015 to July 2016. The study was
conducted according to the guidelines of the ethics committee of our university and was approved by
our institutional review board. The study population comprised 103 males construction manual
workers (mean age, 38.73± 12.43; age range, 23 60 years) presenting with low back pain with or
without lower limb radiculopathy to the outpatient spine clinic and with lumbar disc prolapse on MRI.
Disc herniation and 250 lumbar nerve roots at the levels of disc degeneration were evaluated on MR
images for compromise. The workers included manual workers involved in physical and mechanical
work such as bricklayers, concrete mixers, crane operators and plumbers. Patients with prior back
surgery, spine fractures, sacroiliac arthritis, metabolic bone disease, spinal infection and rheumatoid
arthritis, were excluded. Each worker gave a written informed consent to participate in our study. II.
Methods All workers were subjected to the following: 1. Face to face interview using a predesigned
questionnaire: The questionnaire included demographic information (e.g. name, age, height, body
weight, job description, work experience, duration of present work) and data on low back pain
perceived causes and symptoms. Visual Analogue Scale 100mm (VAS) was used to assess pain and
Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used to assess functional disability pre and 3months post
operative.

I could truly say I was challenged to think critically. During class we would often discuss our assigned

Examples Of Contingent Liability
contingent liability A potential liability dependent upon some future event occurring or not occurring.
For example, a company is named as a defendant in a $1 million lawsuit. Does that mean the company
automatically has a liability of $1 million? What if the lawsuit has no merit and can easily be
defended? If it is probable that the company will lose and the amount can be estimated, a journal entry
is prepared to debit Loss from Lawsuit and to credit Lawsuit Payable. If it is possible but not probable
that the company will lose, the journal entry is not made but instead there will be a footnote
disclosure. If the lawsuit is remote (a nuisance suit without any merit), there is no need for a journal
entry and no need to disclose the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the company is certain that no units will be returned as defective, the company will have no liability
and no warranty expense.
Accountants will record a journal entry to report a liability on the balance sheet and a loss or expense
on the income statement only if the loss contingency is both probable and the amount can be
estimated.
If a contingent liability is possible (but not probable), no journal entry is needed. However, the
accountant must disclose the contingent liability and loss in the notes to the financial statements.
If a contingent liability is remote, then the accountant will not report the liability and loss and will not
disclose it.
Where is a contingent liability recorded?
A contingent liability that is both probable and the amount can be estimated is recorded as 1) an
expense or loss on the income statement, and 2) a liability on the balance sheet. As a result, a
contingent liability is also referred to as a loss contingency. Warranties are cited as a contingent
liability that meets both of the required conditions (probable and the amount can be estimated).
Warranties will be recorded at the time of a product s sale with a debit to Warranty Expense and a
credit to Warranty Liability.
A loss contingency which is possible but not probable, or the amount cannot be estimated, will not be
recorded in the accounts. Rather, it will be disclosed in the notes to the financial

mode is understanding that disability is a result of environmental barriers and as therapist responding
to physical, social, and environmental barriers that a client encounters (Marazita, n.d) . For example,

Essay about The Debate Over Euthanasia
The Debate Over Euthanasia
The controversy over euthanasia has recently become highly publicized. However, this issue is not a
new debate. Society has voiced its opinions on the subject for hundreds of years. Euthanasia, which is
Greek for good death , refers to the act of ending another person s life in order to end their suffering
and pain.1 Two forms, passive and active euthanasia, categorize the actions taken to end the person s
life. Passive euthanasia involves removing a patient s life support, withholding food and water, and
discontinuing medical treatments. Active euthanasia includes any direct action taken to cause the
death of the person, such as administrating a lethal drug.2 The debate over this issue stems from

Why patients turn to euthanasia
Medical procedures and treatments improve immensely every year. With the new technology and
advancements, diseases and ailments that were once deadly are not nearly as incapacitating as in
previous years. However, some remain debilitating and fatal. For example, some forms of cancer
remain terminal even after numerous attempts at treatment. Sometimes the side effects from
chemotherapy like nausea, extreme exhaustion and muscle soreness, are more severe than the
symptoms of the disease itself.6 Often times, the patients begin to feel as though the efforts being
made to cure their disease have become useless and have made their life not worthwhile. In these
cases, terminal patients might choose to simply stop the treatments. Another time when a person might
turn to euthanasia is when the illness is causing him a terrible amount of pain, and the medicine being
administered to the patient does not allow him to live the kind of life that he wants to have. Those for
euthanasia maintain that if this practice were to be legalized, there would be several restrictions on
who could be eligible for this procedure.7 A patient would have to be of sound mind, have been
stricken with a terminal illness, or be in a state of constant and crippling pain. Some notable advocates
who have

Making sense of the sciences is important to being able to use their mind and convey their emotions.
Using one language to convey these feelings is important to not only a person s personal growth but
the emotional growth. Having emotional growth gives the person an opportunity to help others
achieve their own emotional maturity. Although some do not achieve this maturity, they will attempt
to achieve this maturity at some level in their lives. Comte s theories were seen as a type of new
religious experience. Comte also founded the social sciences, and it is important to remember in our
more cynical times the ideals to which they aspired. Comte and other early social scientists assumed
that human behavior must obey laws just as strict as Newton s laws of motion, and that if we could
discover them, we could eliminate moral evils in exactly the same way that medical scientists were
then discovering how diseases worked and were eliminating much of the physical suffering which had
always been an inevitable part of the human condition (victorianweb.org). Seeing suffering as routine,
Comte gives the sense that he has seen a lot of suffering in his life and does not internalize this
because it is an every day occurrence. Treating trauma as this makes Comte seem detached from the
reality of suffering. Positivism has had it share of stereo types. Positivists

The Causative Agent Of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome...
Introduction
Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, is the causative agent of Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome (AIDS). Currently, there are two types of HIV isolated, HIV 1 and HIV 2, which are both
retroviruses and able to perform reverse transcriptase (Leboffe 2011). While HIV 1 is spread
throughout the world, HIV 2 is confined to West Africa and is better protective against the progression
to AIDS. Genome of HIV 1 only contains nine genes. It is transmitted by body fluids such as blood,
breast milk, semen, and vaginal secretions. Its mode of transmission is via contaminated blood either
by, IV drug use, sexual transmission, mother to child, blood transfusion or occupational risk. It infects
34 million people in a year worldwide, with approximately 1.8 million death. In the United States, the
population infected with HIV is approximately 1.2 million people and one out of five people are
unaware of the infection. Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the causative agent of HIV disease. It is
9.3 Kb positive sense RNA virus and 100 nm in diameter. HIV has no animal reservoirs and only
infects humans (Leboffe 2011).
History
The origin of HIV 1 is a closely related chimpanzee virus that first infected humans in Central Africa
in a first half of the 20th century (Cachay 2016). Some of the events that together made up rapidly

The Personal and Collective Implications and Ramifications of Paul D s Recuperative Journey toward
Self Reclamation in Morrison s Beloved
Toni Morrison s prime supporting character, Paul D, embarks upon a physical, emotional, and spiritual
journey in the novel Beloved that ultimately culminates in personal, familial, and in terms of the larger
historical ex slave community collective ramifications. Via Morrison s cyclical mode of narration,
Paul D progresses geographically from the Kentucky slave plantation ironically designated Sweet
Home , to a Georgian prison in which he serves time toiling on a chain gang, and finally, to main
character Sethe s spiritually besieged home in post Civil War Cincinnati. Emotionally and
philosophically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the reader again comes into contact with Paul D, he is psychologically equipped to resume his
journey of recuperation and self reconciliation. Upon returning to Sethe and discovering that the
ghostly Beloved has departed (perhaps for good), Paul is finally able to reach his the end of his
journey of absolution. The ex slave who once dwelled solely in the past and shunned all aspects of
human intimacy, rekindles hope simultaneously both in the broken Sethe and in himself. When Sethe
laments that she has again lost her best thing , Paul D responds, You your best thing (Morrison Ch.
28). Further exemplifying his newfound sense of identity and emancipation, Paul D asserts to Sethe:
Me and you, we got more yesterday than anybody. We need some kind of tomorrow (Morrison Ch.
28). While Paul D s 18 year journey from the unspeakable atrocities of Sweet Home to the new
beginning with the woman he has always loved is momentous in and of itself, it is apparent that
Morrison is utilizing Paul D as a microcosm of the larger, post Civil War black community.
Ultimately, Beloved is a book that champions the notion that confrontation of and reconciliation of
one s past is a cathartic and necessary step to securing some kind of

Fight For Independence
When the Americans began to fight, they started to believe that they were not actually fighting for
independence; they thought they were fighting for a cure for the objections toward the British Empire.
Throughout the first year of fighting, although, many colonists changed their minds and understood
that they were, indeed, fighting for independence. Many colonists were furious when the British tried
to recruit Indians, African slaves, and German mercenaries. When the British government blocked
colonial ports and rejected all efforts at conciliation, majority of the colonists decided that
independence was the only remaining choice. Thomas Paine clarified these feelings of the colonists in
his pamphlet, Common Sense. Common Sense was a 50 page

Functions Of A Manager s Role Is Communication
One of the main functions of a manager s role is communication. Effective communication allows for
the successful transmittal of information to all parties who need the information. Managers must be
skillful in delivering not only the good news but also the bad news. Two of the most challenging
topics a manager may have to communicate involve reporting that the company is not performing as
expected and informing an employee that they are no longer employed with the company.
For profit companies are, by definition, created to make money, or a profit. They allocate resources
towards the goal of earning revenue. Shareholders and stakeholders both benefit when a company s
profits increase and many companies today are investing in new technology, usually at a high cost.
The goal is that the new technology will bring more business, thus more profits. When a company
underperforms despite the heavy investments in new technology, it is the manager s responsibility to
communicate upwards to the shareholders what the company s performance is, why the loss happened,
and what changes will be made going forward to correct the issue.
When the company made the decision to invest in the new technology, the communication process
would have been utilized to convey the message to all parties what the expected outcome of the
investment would be. The sender, in this case maybe an IT professional, would have presented the
benefits of the new technology to upper management by encoding the message

The Importance Of Invasive Species
In the case of a home invasion, people suggest to have a safe room where your whole family can hide
in which there is a telephone to call the police. Unfortunately, not all living creatures have access to
things other than themselves to protect them.
An invasive species is defined as an organism that causes ecological or economic harm in a new
environment where it is not native. Whether it be animals or even plants, they exist and will be here to
stay if we don t do anything about it. What we should be doing is actually eating the invasive species
which are hard to manage because if we don t do anything about it now, there may be no stop to them.
In addition to this, there are other reasons that we should eat them such as the fact that ... Show more

But honestly if you go around life thinking that everything s gonna fix itself somehow that s not good.
Most of these invasive species are there in the first place because of humans abandoning them in the
wild.
Not only are these creatures harmful to the environment, their effects on the world take a toll on
humans too. That s surprising. Lionfish are wiping out several species in the US including cod and
snapper which are served here in Japan too. Another source of food for humans would be gone.
Another example is the Wild boar which roam free in all parts of the US are destroying wetlands and
and crop fields which caused an estimated $52 million in Texas alone every year.
So what can you do? Well, next time you go to a seafood restaurant, see if they have lionfish,
apparently the lionfish nachos are good! Or maybe you visit a French restaurant and try some Wild
Boar which I have actually tried and guys, it s ribs. For all you vegetarians, don t worry, remember
that japanese knotweed I talked about? Guess what. It s literally bamboo. I guess what I m trying to

Organophosphate is a term applied to describe any organic phosphorus (V) bearing compound, it too

JH acts as hormones that manipulate the type of molt that a juvenile insect will go through. With the
presence of JH, Ecdysone triggers larva to larva molts. On the contrary, the ecdysone will supports the
larva pupa or pupa to adult molt if absence of JH. The juvenile hormone analogs (JHAs) insecticides
such as methroprene and pyriproxyfen are insecticides that disturb the standard amount of juvenile
hormone by mimic the chemical structure or biological action of juvenile hormone (Wilson 2004,
Henrick 2007). JHAs are more effective at the beginning stage of metamorphosis and embryogenesis
in insects, so it is broadly apply as larvicide. JHAs selectively target and disrupt the endocrine system
of insects. The JHAs interferes with molting process which causes premature molting, this may leads
to deformations of wings and reproductive parts.

Citizens on Patrol
Citizens on Patrol
What would an individual do to keep their home or neighborhood safe? The answer has become quite
popular over the last few decades. In fact neighborhood prevention is becoming extremely popular as
well as successfully reducing crime in some neighborhoods. One of the major forms of neighborhood
crime prevention is citizen patrol. Citizen patrol or often referred to as citizen on patrol is extremely
popular due to the fact that it solely relies on surveillance. Furthermore, not only do these individuals
volunteer their time to simply observe, they produce dramatic results in the process and work with law
enforcement officers to stop neighborhood crime.

patrols in high crime areas for deterrence.
The Citizen on Patrol program is an effective measure of crime prevention for most communities. The
name alone acts as a deterrence of crime to many. According to the Baltimore Police County Police
Department the majority of our patrols have drastically reduced crime in their neighborhoods and
eliminated the suspicious activity associated with crime, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life
in the community. One major benefit of the citizen patrol involves the cost saving of law enforcement
and communities. For example the citizen patrols are volunteers so these individuals save tax payers
and law enforcement major bucks. It is not uncommon for an average size Citizen Patrol group of 50
members to provide a budget savings of several hundred thousand dollars a year by performing these
duties. The funds saved can then be used to put more Officers and Deputies on the streets or purchase
needed equipment. In addition to budget savings, it is not uncommon for active Citizen

Illness is in no way a new thing, if you had happened to to sick at the time of ancient egyptians there

Ancient philosopher named Hippocrates discovered an idea that was quite radical at that time. Built on
the idea that the egyptians started, he predicted that perhaps illness may not only be caused by the

Essay On Republican Party
The United States population is spread out across a spectrum of the political ideologies. We are
typically seen as being on the left , also called liberals, or on the right , called conservatives. The two
main political parties in our country are the Democrats, whose supporters are typically on the left, and
the Republicans, whose supporters are on the right. These parties and their policies, however, are
becoming more polarized and are attracting the more extreme members of their party and not the
moderate voters, which make up the majority of the voters. By setting policies that the moderate
voters would agree with can help political parties gain more voters, as long as they do not lean too far
away from their base groups, or their strongest and more extreme voters. Republicans would gain
supporters by changing their policies on free trade agreements, immigration, healthcare, and wall
street to those that are more similar to the most of the public. These supporters would come from the
moderate voters, like the hard pressed skeptics and the young outsiders, and some of the other liberal
groups, like the next generation left and the faith and family left. Today the Republican party wants to
repeal all free trade agreements. This is in contrast with the majority of the general population, in
which 59% believe that free trade agreements are good for our nation and 30% believe that they are
bad. The Democrats on the other hand support most of the agreements that are around

Descriptive Essay About The Sky
Life washes over those who expect it the least. One moment I was playing with the innocence of time,
then life came crashing in and destroyed everything. With water soaked clothes and tear streaked
cheeks, I returned home with the knowledge that life has no mercy. Life is not fair. Only the sweet
sting of reality to my beaten down ego was my companion.
Magnificent, heavenly light filters through the wispy clouds, signifying a new day. The thin clouds
slowly drift apart, presenting a beautiful sky beneath. Speaking out to me, the sky seems to know
every one of my thoughts, my dreams, my darkest fears. The sky is but a canvas of light, creating a
new picture within seconds. Weaving a story through the delicate clouds, the picture grows beyond the
expanse of sky. The colors splay before me, painfully beautiful and simple. Pink hues morph into
vibrant purples as they blend with the beautiful blues. The glittering stretch of sea shines before my
eyes. With every new wave, the light from above whispers promises of riches and sparkling diamonds.
The light breeze that kisses the sea sends the twinkling light back into the air above.
The ocean strokes land with calm and reassuring hands, lacing water with sand and lifting seashells in
its wake. My heart urges me forward, to walk among the peace, to capture the sweet smell of sea salt.
My brain reasons with the rest of my body. Turning sharply from the churning water I force my feet to
leave the warm imprint they have grown to love

Essay on Internal Controls Case Study
October 1, 2011
I was asked to give my recommendations on LJB Company s internal control system before the
company decides to go public in the future. Based on my review of the information that I have been
given, the following are my recommendations for new internal controls: 1. Establishment of
Responsibility 2. Segregation of Duties 3. Human Resources Control 4. Independent Internal
Verification 5. Physical controls
It is good to see that LJB recognizes the efforts of its long term employees by rewarding them with
additional responsibilities. This shows that the employees are valued. There are also some physical

The Independent Internal Verification control is also being violated because the data that eh
accountant has been providing has not been verified by any other personnel in your company. It is
simply being recorded and reported by him only. The company s petty cash is being handled by all
employees and they are only being asked to leave a note in the drawer when it is being used. Why are
all employees being allowed to have access to the petty cash fund? How do you know that it is being
used to benefit the company, not the employee? Why is the cash not locked away instead of being
placed in a desk drawer? This violates the Human Resources Control as well as the Physical Control.
Employees who handle cash should be bonded and all cash should be locked away. Receipts or other
means of record keeping should be provided when petty cash is used, not notes left in the drawer. The
company does not have individual passwords assigned to employees for computer use. This also is a
violation of Physical Controls. Thorough background checks are not being done on employees before
they are hired. This violates the Human Resources Control. If this had been done, the employee that
had been convicted of child molestation would have never been hired. The accountant should not be
interviewing and approving new hires. This goes against the Establishment of Responsibility control.
The accountant has too many roles within the company that should be assigned to

The Theory Of The Work Of Art
Cubism was always an interpretation of objective reality, of a given motif. But Kandinsky was to
initiate was by contrast essentially and deliberately non objective. Kandinsky s own experience was
personal and even apocalyptic.
2 Kandinsky conclude non objective painting must be expressive, emotion or spiritual experience.
Non objective painting could form and colour, free form all representational aim, be articulated into a
language of symbolic discourse.
3.Art is a construction of concrete elements of form and colour which become expressive in the
process of synthesis or arrangement: the form of the work of art is in itself the content, and whatever
expressiveness there is in the work of art originates with the form.
4. The whole purpose of this alternative principle was to escape from the internal necessities of our
individual existence and to create a pure art, free from human tragedy , impersonal and universal.
5.The painter who was to develop to its logical extreme the objective concept of abstraction was Piet
Mondrian (or Mondriaan)
6. His (Mondrian s) style of pure abstraction evolves gradually and consistently form his patient
search for a reality behind the motif.
7.The journal De Stijl was a propogate their views on art. This became the name of the movement,

Urban Land Use And Transportation Planning
Question 1. This approach has several advantages. First, it provides much more spatially detailed
information than traditional data at the aggregate level of planning districts. Hence, using this
disaggregate information, we can suggest policy implications to establish specific land use and
transportation planning. UrbanSim, one of the advanced microsimulation model developed by
University of Washington, uses gridcells of 150*150 meter, which presents spatially detailed structure
and enables researchers to evaluate current urban land use patterns as well as predict future urban land
use change at the micro level. However, a building scale analysis provides much more benefits
because it is a more realistic model and can be easily combined with current urban big data. For
example, if this agent based model is combined with complex human behaviors data, it can provide
much more specific information for predicting events of an emergency such as a building fire and
disasters from earthquake or tsunami. Also, if this model is combined with information on spatial
human activities from mobile phone, it can provide great benefits for managing spatial and temporal
planning for the urban places. More specifically, we can identify hot spots during daytime and
nighttime, which can help to predict travel demands as well land use demand. Second, with the
building scale dataset, we can deal with a variety of urban problems and issues. For example, energy is
one of the big issues in our

  • 2. Cedrics High School Failure To what extent did cedric s high school fail to provide him with an excellent education? How did cedric s experiences in highschool affect how he approached his college education and how he performed in college? Defend your argument referencing specific events from the book a hope in the unseen. In his junior year, Cedric is admitted to the Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science summer program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He believes this is the start of a new life for him, but when summer arrives he finds the classes much more difficult than his fellow MIT students who attended better schools and were better versed in math and science. Though he makes friends at MIT, he also sees that his ghetto background sets him apart from them. At the end of the program, Cedric is told by faculty director Leon Trilling that he would not be welcome in MIT as a college student. This infuriates Cedric, and he finds solace in returning to Ballou that fall despite offers to attend better schools for his Senior year. Cedric initially disavows his previous ambitions, then discovers Brown University is particularly accommodating to minority students. He files for early admission and tells everyone he ll be accepted. This indeed becomes the case, though the good news is tempered by Barbara s concern that Cedric may lose his old identity as he moves forward in life. As his senior year winds down, Cedric visits Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He also finds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Introduction Of A Foreign Species Biodiversity Introduction For once in history, the introduction of a foreign species has had paramount importance throughout their evolution for many terrestrial ecosystems. Apis Mellifera also commonly known as the Western Honey bee, is a vital component to global biodiversity. The honey bee provides ecosystem services of considerable ecological significance for the reproduction of plants and for the pollination of many economically important crops. Although the place of origin of Apis Mellifera is unclear, North America was introduced to the Western Honey bee around 1622 by European colonists (Weber, E. 2012). Amongst the eight species in the genus Apis, Apis Mellifera is the most widely valued honey bee in the United States(citation). Apis Mellifera live in nests, called a hive, and typically house 40,00 bees, which are divided into three different types of adult bees: Queen, Worker, Drone(Winston, M. L., 1987). Majority of the bees living in the beehive are Worker bees that provide majority of the fundamental processes needed to sustain the beehive. Honey bees consume processed nectar (honey) and pollen (bee bread) which are both found in Angiosperms (flowering plants). Nectar, which bees convert to honey serves as a primary source of carbohydrates (Winston, M. L., 1987). This provides honey bees energy for flight and product for colony maintenance. Honey bees will die within a few days if they do not have a surplus abundance of honey (Winston, M. L., 1987). Pollen is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Maus And The Sandman By Neil Gainman When defining great literature, graphic novels are often the last source scholars and educators consider. In general, graphic novels are seen as low brow, mass culture entertainment or as pedagogical tools (Long 6). In recent years graphic novels have proven to be worthy of being considered great literature and valuable tools in the classroom. Comic books should not be viewed simply as aesthetic objects, but rather as texts which function when read by their audience within a specific context. Our education curriculums are heavily relied on reading comprehension, which has proven to be a struggle for visual learners. Graphic novels offer value, variety, and new medium for literacy that acknowledges the impact of visuals. Novels such as Maus by Art Spiegelman and The Sandman (vertigo) by Neil Gainman, not only appeal to visual learners, but are useful across all curriculums. Maus and The Sandman offer different style narratives and visuals that reflect the diverse nature of graphic novels. The variety in compositions between these two demonstrate the strengths of the graphic novel genre, and how they can be considered valuable sources of education. The use of word image combination allow the reader of graphic novels to experience much more than what words allot. For visual learners that struggle with reading compression, the visual components of graphic novels help portray the context in a medium that is easier for these learners to digest. Maus by Art Spiegelman is one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Skunk Hour Essay Frustration s Armored Aroma Skunk Hour by Robert Lowell and The Armadillo by Elizabeth Bishop are two closely related poems. Both share the theme of an animal carrying with it natural defenses, and the image of an isolated spectator. However, there is one important contrast between these poems: The Armadillo portrays a creature who cannot comprehend the events destroying the life about it, whereas the speaker in Skunk Hour understands, possibly too well, the events affecting its life. By using the skunk as a descriptive element for his character, Robert Lowell increases the distance between the character and the brief glimpse of society portrayed in the poem. Skunks, generally, are avoided by everyone because of their reputation for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in this paper, the fact that the speaker in Skunk Hour is lonely will become an important contrast to the character in The Armadillo. At the end of the poem, Lowell contrasts as well as likens the character to the nocturnal skunk. amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;Nobody s here amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;only skunks, that search amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;in the moonlight for a bite to eat amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9; amp;#9;(Lowell 36 38) Like the skunks of the poem, the speaker is a creature of the night. Again, like the speaker in Skunk Hour, this character is lonely. In the fifth stanza, the hot air balloons are fading into distance and the darkness of night. • 7. Stephanie Wallace Essay Not only were these contributions added, but the entire scientific process had been laid in in what we now know as the Scientific Method, the most basic structure of good science. These islamic scholars themselves preserved the writings of many famous greek philosophers like Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates, thus showing that there was no predominant aggression between the two. After the decline of the Islamic Golden Age came the rise of Christianity around the 12th century and was the next seat of knowledge. At this point there was no apparent schism between theism versus science. During this period Christian Dogma stated that the Bible must be read, and understood, literally. Challenging this view would be considered Heresy. During this time, in defence of the predominant seat of christianity, the Catholic Church, in that time being in the church gave you power over politics and daily life. Because of this people sought out to become a priest to gain power and wealth, not the actually be a priest and all that it entails, and most certainly not stopping and considering the truth about matters such as science, when the easiest thing to do was to say to just understand it literally and throw the problem away in jail. This is what happened to Galileo. This started what is believed to be the first major crack in the relationship of science and religion, although it was not as bad as most people know as many religious still work in and research in science fields. Now that the history has been reviewed, the fields themselves must be covered.(Shuttleworth) The fields of theism and science are both very different fields with very different ... • 9. What Was Reinhold Neighbor s Thoughts On Liberal... In the spring of my junior year of high school, I took my first Dartmouth College course. I could feel my body shaking from nervousness as I walked down the stairs of Rockefeller Center. When I arrived in the classroom of my International Politics course, I was greeted by Professor Milan Babik. I did not know it at the time, but his teaching was going to make a big difference for me academically. I had always been involved in classroom discussion, however, it was not until Professor Babik s course that I could truly say I was challenged to think critically. During class we would often discuss our assigned reading and he would ask a question such as What was Reinhold Neighbor s thoughts on Liberal Internationalism? to begin. I remember shooting ... For example, a company is named as a defendant in a $1 million lawsuit. Does that mean the company automatically has a liability of $1 million? What if the lawsuit has no merit and can easily be defended? If it is probable that the company will lose and the amount can be estimated, a journal entry is prepared to debit Loss from Lawsuit and to credit Lawsuit Payable. Accountants will record a journal entry to report a liability on the balance sheet and a loss or expense on the income statement only if the loss contingency is both probable and the amount can be estimated. If a contingent liability is possible (but not probable), no journal entry is needed. However, the accountant must disclose the contingent liability and loss in the notes to the financial statements. If a contingent liability is remote, then the accountant will not report the liability and loss and will not disclose it. Where is a contingent liability recorded? A contingent liability that is both probable and the amount can be estimated is recorded as 1) an expense or loss on the income statement, and 2) a liability on the balance sheet. As a result, a contingent liability is also referred to as a loss contingency. Warranties are cited as a contingent liability that meets both of the required conditions (probable and the amount can be estimated). Warranties will be recorded at the time of a product s sale with a debit to Warranty Expense and a credit to Warranty Liability. My first negative impact is rejecting help or another point of view. To change it to something positive I have to learn to accept others people thoughts and ideas even at moments when I m feeling stressed. Sometimes people look at situations in a different way and they may be able to provide recommendations on how to better deal with the stress. Also, we can t allow that a stressful situation negatively impacts the service provided to our patients. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain what it means to you to be a therapist and to be a therapeutic tool. Identify 2 examples of characteristics which are reflective of the therapeutic modes discussed in lecture information, which you feel you possess. Explain. For me a therapist should serve as guidance and support for this individual that is going through a difficult or different situation. As therapist, we get prepared with the required knowledge and may have more information about their specific condition, we also serve as educators. Being a therapeutic tool is listening to our patient concerns and having respect for our patients. According to the therapeutic modes I m encouraging and advocator. With the new technology and advancements, diseases and ailments that were once deadly are not nearly as incapacitating as in previous years. However, some remain debilitating and fatal. For example, some forms of cancer remain terminal even after numerous attempts at treatment. Sometimes the side effects from chemotherapy like nausea, extreme exhaustion and muscle soreness, are more severe than the symptoms of the disease itself.6 Often times, the patients begin to feel as though the efforts being made to cure their disease have become useless and have made their life not worthwhile. In these cases, terminal patients might choose to simply stop the treatments. Another time when a person might turn to euthanasia is when the illness is causing him a terrible amount of pain, and the medicine being administered to the patient does not allow him to live the kind of life that he wants to have. Those for euthanasia maintain that if this practice were to be legalized, there would be several restrictions on who could be eligible for this procedure.7 A patient would have to be of sound mind, have been stricken with a terminal illness, or be in a state of constant and crippling pain. • 26. Functions Of A Manager s Role Is Communication One of the main functions of a manager s role is communication. Effective communication allows for the successful transmittal of information to all parties who need the information. Managers must be skillful in delivering not only the good news but also the bad news. Two of the most challenging topics a manager may have to communicate involve reporting that the company is not performing as expected and informing an employee that they are no longer employed with the company. For profit companies are, by definition, created to make money, or a profit. They allocate resources towards the goal of earning revenue. Shareholders and stakeholders both benefit when a company s profits increase and many companies today are investing in new technology, usually at a high cost. The goal is that the new technology will bring more business, thus more profits. When a company underperforms despite the heavy investments in new technology, it is the manager s responsibility to communicate upwards to the shareholders what the company s performance is, why the loss happened, and what changes will be made going forward to correct the issue. When the company made the decision to invest in the new technology, the communication process would have been utilized to convey the message to all parties what the expected outcome of the investment would be. We are typically seen as being on the left , also called liberals, or on the right , called conservatives. The two main political parties in our country are the Democrats, whose supporters are typically on the left, and the Republicans, whose supporters are on the right. These parties and their policies, however, are becoming more polarized and are attracting the more extreme members of their party and not the moderate voters, which make up the majority of the voters. By setting policies that the moderate voters would agree with can help political parties gain more voters, as long as they do not lean too far away from their base groups, or their strongest and more extreme voters. Republicans would gain supporters by changing their policies on free trade agreements, immigration, healthcare, and wall street to those that are more similar to the most of the public. These supporters would come from the moderate voters, like the hard pressed skeptics and the young outsiders, and some of the other liberal groups, like the next generation left and the faith and family left. Today the Republican party wants to repeal all free trade agreements. This is in contrast with the majority of the general population, in which 59% believe that free trade agreements are good for our nation and 30% believe that they are bad. The Democrats on the other hand support most of the agreements that are around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Descriptive Essay About The Sky Life washes over those who expect it the least. One moment I was playing with the innocence of time, then life came crashing in and destroyed everything. With water soaked clothes and tear streaked cheeks, I returned home with the knowledge that life has no mercy. Life is not fair. Only the sweet sting of reality to my beaten down ego was my companion. Magnificent, heavenly light filters through the wispy clouds, signifying a new day. The thin clouds slowly drift apart, presenting a beautiful sky beneath. Speaking out to me, the sky seems to know every one of my thoughts, my dreams, my darkest fears. The sky is but a canvas of light, creating a new picture within seconds. Weaving a story through the delicate clouds, the picture grows beyond the expanse of sky. The colors splay before me, painfully beautiful and simple. Pink hues morph into vibrant purples as they blend with the beautiful blues. The glittering stretch of sea shines before my eyes. With every new wave, the light from above whispers promises of riches and sparkling diamonds. The light breeze that kisses the sea sends the twinkling light back into the air above. The ocean strokes land with calm and reassuring hands, lacing water with sand and lifting seashells in its wake. My heart urges me forward, to walk among the peace, to capture the sweet smell of sea salt. My brain reasons with the rest of my body. Turning sharply from the churning water I force my feet to leave the warm imprint they have grown to love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Essay on Internal Controls Case Study October 1, 2011 I was asked to give my recommendations on LJB Company s internal control system before the company decides to go public in the future. Based on my review of the information that I have been given, the following are my recommendations for new internal controls: 1. Establishment of Responsibility 2. Segregation of Duties 3. Human Resources Control 4. Independent Internal Verification 5. Physical controls It is good to see that LJB recognizes the efforts of its long term employees by rewarding them with additional responsibilities. This shows that the employees are valued. There are also some physical controls in place to secure company checks from being mishandled or stolen. Documentation procedures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Independent Internal Verification control is also being violated because the data that eh accountant has been providing has not been verified by any other personnel in your company. It is simply being recorded and reported by him only. The company s petty cash is being handled by all employees and they are only being asked to leave a note in the drawer when it is being used. Why are all employees being allowed to have access to the petty cash fund? How do you know that it is being used to benefit the company, not the employee? Why is the cash not locked away instead of being placed in a desk drawer? This violates the Human Resources Control as well as the Physical Control. Employees who handle cash should be bonded and all cash should be locked away. Receipts or other means of record keeping should be provided when petty cash is used, not notes left in the drawer. The company does not have individual passwords assigned to employees for computer use. This also is a violation of Physical Controls. Thorough background checks are not being done on employees before they are hired. This violates the Human Resources Control. If this had been done, the employee that had been convicted of child molestation would have never been hired. The accountant should not be interviewing and approving new hires. This goes against the Establishment of Responsibility control. The accountant has too many roles within the company that should be assigned to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Theory Of The Work Of Art Cubism was always an interpretation of objective reality, of a given motif. But Kandinsky was to initiate was by contrast essentially and deliberately non objective. Kandinsky s own experience was personal and even apocalyptic. 2 Kandinsky conclude non objective painting must be expressive, emotion or spiritual experience. Non objective painting could form and colour, free form all representational aim, be articulated into a language of symbolic discourse. 3.Art is a construction of concrete elements of form and colour which become expressive in the process of synthesis or arrangement: the form of the work of art is in itself the content, and whatever expressiveness there is in the work of art originates with the form. 4. The whole purpose of this alternative principle was to escape from the internal necessities of our individual existence and to create a pure art, free from human tragedy , impersonal and universal. 5.The painter who was to develop to its logical extreme the objective concept of abstraction was Piet Mondrian (or Mondriaan) 6. His (Mondrian s) style of pure abstraction evolves gradually and consistently form his patient search for a reality behind the motif. 7.The journal De Stijl was a propogate their views on art. This became the name of the movement, though Mondrian himself always preferred Nieuwe Beelding (neo Plasticism) as a more meaningful word. 8.M.J Schoenmaekers was an original thinker and had elaborated a Neoplatonic system which he called ... • 39. Urban Land Use And Transportation Planning Question 1. This approach has several advantages. First, it provides much more spatially detailed information than traditional data at the aggregate level of planning districts. Hence, using this disaggregate information, we can suggest policy implications to establish specific land use and transportation planning. UrbanSim, one of the advanced microsimulation model developed by University of Washington, uses gridcells of 150*150 meter, which presents spatially detailed structure and enables researchers to evaluate current urban land use patterns as well as predict future urban land use change at the micro level. However, a building scale analysis provides much more benefits because it is a more realistic model and can be easily combined with current urban big data. For example, if this agent based model is combined with complex human behaviors data, it can provide much more specific information for predicting events of an emergency such as a building fire and disasters from earthquake or tsunami. Also, if this model is combined with information on spatial human activities from mobile phone, it can provide great benefits for managing spatial and temporal planning for the urban places. More specifically, we can identify hot spots during daytime and nighttime, which can help to predict travel demands as well land use demand. Second, with the building scale dataset, we can deal with a variety of urban problems and issues. For example, energy is one of the big issues in our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
