Compare And Contrast Worldviews
Comparing Worldviews
Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world
through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text,
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for
comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews,
although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life.
Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or both.
Worldview s purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews attribute
the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse notions of how
to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these world views,
there are multiple differences found.
When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different
approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it
will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the
creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a
spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are
on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Consequences of Popular Culture
Consequences of Popular Culture
A Consequence can be defined as, Something that logically or naturally follows from an action or
condition. In this matter we are referring to the consequences of Pop Culture towards violence.
Violence in general has one meaning, an act of aggression. We will be examining three types of
violence in our culture, Domestic violence, Youth violence, and of course Gun violence. We feel that
all three of these types of violence have increased in today s society as a consequence of pop culture.
Popular culture, or pop culture, is the people s culture that prevails in a modern society. The content of
popular culture is determined in large part by industries that disseminate cultural material, for example
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We feel this compromise in our culture has only led to consequences as far as violence. Domestic
violence generally means, violence or physical abuse directed toward your spouse or domestic partner;
usually violence by men against women, but can also include other siblings. Domestic violence is
caused specifically by the choice to engage in violent or abusive behavior against a partner, sibling or
child. A variety of factors can lead to that choice. We feel that the pop culture like rap music takes part
in some of the factors that lead to domestic violence. Rap music has a way of sending subliminal
messages of degrading your spouse or any women at that. We also include the movie industries as well
for example the hit movie Hustle and Flow which had a song called Whoop that Trick and a scene of
domestic violence. Films like this can make the minds of people comfortable with the facts of
domestic violence, in other words thinking it just happens. It is estimated that every year in the United
States, approximately 3 million women are assaulted by their partner. Many of these incidents go
unreported to authorities due to the shame and fear associated with domestic violence. In 1998, of the
approximately 1.5 million violent crimes committed between intimate partners, over 876,000 of the
victims were women, and over 835,000 were men. Of the approximately 1,830 murders committed
against intimate partners in 1998, 3 out of 4 of the victims were

The Role Of Women In Matthew LewisThe Monk And The Italian
Matthew Lewis The Monk differs from Ann Radcliffe s The Italian in its portrayal of women. Since
both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the different
ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each author s
attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in pursuing individual
goals. Both The Monk and The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their agency. However, the
horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk exudes a pessimistic attitude
towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By contrast, The Italian reveals a more
optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its
acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that female agency can be channeled to good causes.
In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and
rules by fear, oppressing the women within her convent. She consider[s] [women of rank] quitting the
Convent, as a disgrace thrown upon it and will use every artifice to avoid [that] (169). Not only does
she imprison women, she also subdues them by fear as seen by how Mother St. Ursula describes her
fear that her every action [is] observed, [her] every step [is] traced and that [she is] constantly
surrounded by the Superior s spies (273). The Prioress tyrannically condemns women like

English Literature in the Victorian Era
I m no lunatic man, I m a sane man fighting for his soul this quote from Bram Stoker s Dracula,
illustrates and foreshadows that in the Victorian era, a quest for meaning was seen by the majority of
society as lunacy , however the characters that Stoker uses, are represented sane , suggesting Stoker s
encouragement of a quest for meaning and purpose in the Victorian era of increasing uncertainty.
Along with Stoker, Charles Dickens and Lord Alfred Tennyson also address the individual s pursuit
for meaning and purpose, linking this idea specifically with themes of capitalism, class and gender
inequality, corruption, freedom and oppression; which I will be using to comparing and contrasting the
writers, closely analysing the driving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover from a Marxist perspective, stokers demonstration of Dracula s pursuit to subject London to
claim the blood that would maintain his life can be interpreted from a Marxist point of view as the
upper class exploiting the working class to maintain capitalism within society. In contrast with
Dickens portal of Bounderby in hard times he shares similar qualities in comparison with Dracula
using his power and status as an advantage of mistreating his workers, where he views them as hands ,
undermining them subsequently because of their working class status. Dracula s castle and Bounderby
s bank are the motif of their power and status, these are Stokers and Dickens portrayal of their
embodiment of capitalism. These writers illustrate how much power Dracula and Bounderby had upon
society to illustrate the impact capitalism bought upon society and the exploitation they inflicted upon
the working class. Dracula s embodiment of capitalism also ironically shares similar traits to and,
mirrors the decline of the British Empire and the greed they had for power, their immoral work of
colonising half of the world is almost as equivalent with Dracula s constant thirst for power, where
being content is not an option for both Dracula and the British Empire.
Additionally, In comparison to the character of Bounderby a prime example of discontent is
highlighted within the novel of Hard Times in chapter 8 where Bounderby creates

American Culture In Nigeria
Paper 2 Nigerian society changed significantly with the introduction of European values. Of those
changes one of the greatest was the introduction of individualism, rather than the pride people had in
the tribal system. The rise of individualism changes every society, but the Nigerian society was greatly
affected and saw more Nigerian trying to leave to live in other countries with greater opportunities.
One example of this would be Elvis in the short story Graceland, who wanted to move to America to
pursue a career as an Elvis impersonator. This profession is an odd one, especially considering the
Nigerian culture, but with the rise in individualism there is more in an emphasis on individual dreams
in the society. This dream job helps to illuminate the cultural difference that began to occur once
western values and ideas took prominence in the Nigerian culture changing the culture into more a

ideals didn t start to influence him. The American Dream stated that anyone from anywhere can be
anything they would like to be, which is different than what was being proclaimed in the society
before the western values became prominent. With the American Dream, Elvis could become anything
he wanted to be, but he chooses to become an Elvis impersonator. This choice proves to be difficult in
Nigeria, where tourist often do not understand what he is trying to do while acting out his
performance. The creates problems for Elvis and he ends up deciding that he should immigrate to

Financial Data Analysis Daphnnee Johnson HCS 577 March 18, 2013 Sharon Gomes Sanders
Financial Data Analysis After reviewing the balance sheet for Patton Fuller Hospital for 2008 and
2009, there are significant differences that are noticeable. The retained earnings (or Net Worth or
Unrestricted Fund Balance ) drastically decreased from 2008 to 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). The
dollar amount decrease is 209,471, this makes a decrease of over 65%. Long term debt increase to
more than 116% from 2008 to 2009 as well (Apollo Group, 2006). This is a massively huge increase.

This occurred in 2008, but in 2009 in accordance to her will, the hospital received a money donation
from her estate. This $1,000,000 donation is noted as an unrestricted donation (Apollo Group, 2006).
This unrestricted donation is recorded on the Interim Statement of Income in December 2009 (Apollo
Group, 2006). Declines in the stock market and real estate markets resulted in a sharp drop in the
return on investment income. This caused PFCH to reassess the value of its investments and, on their
auditors advice, to write down those assets (Apollo Group, 2006, p. 3). Another reason the number
were so drastically different was because every December Patton Fuller Community Hospital conducts
an annual inventory (Apollo Group, 2006). When the hospital conducted its inventory their expenses
for their supplies were way underestimated by about a million dollars (Apollo Group, 2006). So this
had to be added on as a cost to December s statement. This underestimate of supply expenses made
January to November s reports not correct, so December had to report the actual figures (Apollo
Group, 2006). Therefore, December looked like it was a crazy month for the hospital. Following the
favorable settlement of some managed care contract disputes, net patient revenue increased by 9%
over the previous year, with an average

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Civil Disobedience
While both Antigone and Martin Luther King Jr. fought for their religious and human rights, I believe
that Martin Luther King Jr. s ability to use both religion and nationalism gave him the ability to
achieve his goal of civil disobedience in ways that Antigone could not. Martin Luther King Jr. used his
religious background to give his claim greater influence in the deep south, calling upon every one of
the Christian faith to rally behind a Reverend in trouble. His call to nationalism gave him the ability to
have the nation standing with him against the leaders of Birmingham, evoking a sense of pride and
unity in the nation against this injustice. Antigone used her civil disobedience to fight for her religious
right to bury her brother Polyneices body. While Antigone remained nonviolent throughout her
protest, her lack of negotiation with Kreon shows that her civil disobedience was misguided. Antigone
failed to rationalize with Kreon, instead choosing to blatantly disobey without exhausting all of her
options. Martin Luther King Jr. s use of religion, nationalism, and negotiation are why I believe that
his civil disobedience was more effective than Antigone s.
While Antigone followed her belief of burying Polyneices for religious reasons, she went against the
law of Kreon. Antigone new that the punishment for burying Polyneices was a stoning by the city s
people (Sophocles 36), but she chose to bury her brother anyway, claiming, He has no business
keeping me from what is mine (Sophocles 49). Antigone s lack of negotiation is why her civil
disobedience is a failure. Her choice to bury Polyneice s body without any attempt of finding common
ground with Kreon is foolish. Although Antigone met with Kreon after being discovered burying
Polyneices body, she never actually attempts to negotiate with Kreon, instead choosing to accept her
punishment as something already set in stone. When Kreon first meets Antigone, he asks if Antigone
admits to the deed (Sophocles 442). Antigone s only response was, I don t deny it; I admit the deed
was mine (Sophocles 443). This shows that Antigone made her choice of civil disobedience and
accepted her fate before exhausting all options. Rather than pleading with Kreon and

Essay about Jim Crow s Legacy
While the Emancipation Proclamation marked the end of slavery in the U.S., it did little to address the
racism that remained. Left unchecked, that racism, like a weed, grew and its roots permeated almost
all sectors of American culture spreading from the southern white population throughout the local and
state governments south of the Mason Dixon Line. Jim Crow laws provided legal loopholes that
skirted the spirit of the Emancipation Proclamation and they gave legal cover to those who longed for
the pre Civil War/Reconstruction era. The insidious nature of Jim Crow easily converted bigotry and
intolerance from vile vices to prized virtues. Although Jim Crow laws were settled by the 1954 court
case, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This attitude resulted in an assortment of legislation that spanned many states throughout the south;
they included statutes governing education, the use of public facilities, dining, cohabitation, health
care, transportation, personal relationships, hygiene and even sports (Randall). These laws so
completely engulfed black consciousness that even accusing a white person of lying, or of being
deceitful in any way could place a negro in jail (Pilgrim), or worse, dangling from the business end of
a noose; these tactics served to crush the spirit of the American Negro. While if this same approach
were applied by white people against other white people, they would have been considered illegal,
immoral and inhumane; the second class citizenry that Black America had been received no such
indignation. By the time Plessy v. Ferguson, the statue that established legal inequality, was
overturned by Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, several decades of degradation and intimidation
had already stripped the newly found dignity from the Negro population; In essence, Jim Crow had
run its course and served its purpose. Today, Jim Crow s legacy is a problem that continues to
adversely affected the lives of thousands upon thousands of minorities in the U.S.. After roughly four
and a half generations, the American black population has started its rebound, but the effects of Jim
Crow still

possibility of catching a disease where one can only see white in order to remain with her husband
who is ill. By staying with her husband while he is in desperate need of help, she proves that she is
one of the kindest characters in the novel. However, as the book progresses, her trait of kindness
quickly fades away after experiencing an atrocious situation. A group of people, formed in the
hospital, were collecting all the food from the patients, and the only way the people had a chance of

wife was forced to have intercourse, she was traumatized, and knew that she needed to find a way to
end the catastrophe. In order to do this, she decided to kill the leader of the group, and stabbed him in
the throat with a pair of scissors. The author describes the wife at that moment by writing, she had

Animal Welfare Vs Animal Rights
These alternatives, once studied enough to be credible, could change the face of animal testing.
Unfortunately according to the John Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, scientists say
we simply do not yet understand the complexities of the human body well enough to be able to design
suitable non animal alternatives (Shany 85). This means millions of animals will be killed in the years
to come, but hopefully we take the time to find a safe alternative. Once an alternative becomes
available, we will be able to reduce the number of animals killed each year during testing. Animal

My Hero
The most important day of my life was the day I lost my hero. He was about six feet tall with brown
hair, chocolate brown eyes, a wide smile and had a huge heart. He wasn t afraid of anything and would
take on the biggest tasks, even if he didn t want to. He would do anything for anyone, especially his
family. There was never a time where he said no. He loved to argue because, like everyone else, he
always had to be right. He was a hero. My hero. I was fortunate enough to call this man my dad.
October 24, 2016, is a day I will never forget. I rolled out of bed that Monday morning from a long,
lonely weekend. I had the house to myself and worked all weekend. My parents were going to see the
Kansas City Chiefs play the New Orleans Saints. My dad wore a Seattle Seahawks jersey to the game
because that s how much he d loved his team. The Seahawks ended up tying with the Cardinals that
day 6 6. I heard my parents walk into the house around midnight. I slightly opened my eyes but fell
asleep again. I woke up at 7:30 that morning, brushed my teeth and got dressed for the day and was
off to another day of senior year. As I was walking out of the door, I noticed his car wasn t in the
driveway. He must have had to work early, I thought. He usually did. As I was walking to my car, I
noticed how beautiful the lawn looked. The red and orange leaves on the ground, and the cool air
brushing against my skin. I wish I could ve stayed in that beautiful moment when everything seemed

Mechanical Engineering, (id no. 13007522)
Abstract:
This deals with bending Finite Element Analysis of the aircraft wing using commercial software
ANSYS. An aircraft wing is made of composite with fibre angles in each ply aligned in different
direction. Various air foil thickness and ply angles were considered to study the effect of bending
torsion decoupling. The laminate characteristics are usually calculated using the number of layer,
stacking sequence, geometric and mechanical properties. A finite number of layers can be combined to
form so many laminates. The only restriction that is imposed on the laminate as an element of
composite structure concerns its total thickness which is assumed to be much smaller than the other
dimensions of the structure.
Aircraft wing model as per the plan should be made in FEA and the model is subjected to various
loading. The loading given by the self weight or due to acceleration due to gravity was discussed and
the deflection over here should be calculated. The wing model is severely affected by the loads on
along wing direction, across wing direction, vertical direction.NACA 2412 airfoil was taken for
designing wing. FLUENT was used for computational fluid dynamic analysis to determine the lift and
drag for wing during zero degreed flaps and angled

Dental Bonding
Why Bonding Is A Good Option For Whitening Your Discolored Tooth
If you have a single discolored tooth because it was injured when you were young, you ve probably
found out you can t whiten it using normal teeth whitening procedures. Bleaching works best on
yellowish stains caused by smoking and food. Gray discoloration caused by an injury to the tooth can t
be removed, but you can improve the appearance of your tooth by covering it up. The easiest way to
do that is with dental bonding. Bonding will match your tooth color to the rest of your teeth, and it can
even fix small chips or uneven edges if you have them. Here s why bonding may be the best way to
fix your discolored tooth.

The Turn Of The Screw Ghost Essay
The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, is ghost story that focuses on a young governess that
encounters a pair of ghosts. These ghosts play an important role in the story, but there has always been
a debate over whether the ghosts exist inside the story, or if they exist only in the governess head.
There is evidence within the book to support either claim, so the reality of the apparitions ultimately
depends on the reader s opinion. This paper will support the opinion that the two ghosts that the
governess sees are ultimately just figments of her imagination. Even though the governess ghosts are
not real, she believes them to be real, and her reaction to this belief precipitates the unfortunate
conclusion. The Turn of the Screw is a ghost story, but the real ghosts in the book are mostly ignored,
which is not uncommon in literature, and examples of ignored ghosts can be found in other works as
well.
The two ghosts in The Turn of the Screw are ultimately just figments of the governess imagination,
due in part to her high emotional state. She is starting a new job, charged with the care of two
children, and the desire to do well in her new capacity helps to create this emotional state. Not long ...

Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the function
of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine synthase gene
PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene was expressed in
all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated by abiotic stress or the
phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a defined region behind the root
tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly associated with the plasma
membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of vitamin B6 in membrane
function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional mutants were isolated. Strikingly,
the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and early seedling development. The stunted
roots resulted from both reduced cell division and elongation. Supplementation of the growth media
with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the
mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1 is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition
to the developmental defects, pdx1 mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress.
These mutant seedlings had increased peroxidation of membrane lipids following UV treatment. Our
study establishes a

In The Bhagavad Gita And ConfuciusThe Analects
The quest towards developing the ideal human character is sought after in both the Bhagavad Gita and
Confucius The Analects. In the Bhagavad Gita, the concept of sacred duty is prevalent throughout the
text, as the warrior prince Arjuna faces a moral dilemma throughout the story. In Confucius The
Analects, filial piety is a virtue which impacts an individual s character in relation to the Confucian
religion. Sacred duty within the Gita requires the protection of one s dharma, which is defined as the
religious and moral law that manages an individual s actions. Within Confucian thought, filial piety is
a virtue of respect for one s elders, ancestors, and parents within a community. Despite the differences
between the contextual meanings of developing the ideal human, both the Bhagavad Gita and The
Analects utilize their teachings towards developing ideal human character within the themes of sacred
duty and filial piety with the goal of establishing a set of communal ethics to be maintained through
different caste systems, essentially protecting the existing social structure. To argue this claim, I will
begin by analyzing the similar intentions of deviating from selfish actions and thoughts to develop
ideal human character. I will then express how the nature of this character leads towards the
development of one s sacred duty and filial piety. I will then connect these two ideas to show how
together they work to develop a communal set of ethics aimed at maintaining order

Perfect Idealism In Shakespeare s Hamlet

The play Hamlet is a fable of how the ghost of a slain king comes to haunt the living with disastrous
consequences. A rancorous ghost and a brother s murder, lead the gloomy setting of Hamlet s

rapidly wedded his widowed queen, Gertrude. As a result, the ghost presses Hamlet to seek vengeance
on the man who stole his throne as well as his queen to which Hamlet consents.

Similarly, this article discusses the theme of the complexity of action. This play depicts of how at
times the decision to act is usually influenced not only by coherent considerations, like the need for
inevitability but also by psychological, ethical as well as emotional factors. For instance, Hamlet is
depicted to distrusting the impression that it is even likely to behave in a measured, focused manner.
Like when he acts he prefers to do it in a blind manner, recklessly as well as violently.

Likewise, this journal discusses the mystery of death as depicted in the play Hamlet. In the
repercussion of his dad s death, Hamlet gets obsessed with the notion of demise. All through the play,
he considers demise from awesome various perspectives. He supposes both the profound result of

is intimately tied to the subject of vengeance and justice.

An Evaluation Of Iranian Artist And The Role
The following paper will be an evaluation of Iranian artist and the role they play as women living in
exile. The paper will discuss how art becomes a type of political discourse against patriarchal
governments. To do this I will look at the work of Parastou Forohaur an Iranian artist whose parents
were killed when she was young because they were political activist fighting to defend the rights of all
people women and men included. In the paper I will use various sources and terms that have been
discussed throughout the semester in a short literature review. Shirin Neshat will also be discussed and
the role that she plays in created fragmented narratives that help women feel empowered in their lives
in Iran.

It could still be done in such a way that it s not aggressive or overly didactic. I m trying to find that

. However, before I do any of this I must first define a few terms that will be essential throughout this
analysis. Coming from a critical rhetoric background, I will apply some terms and theories from
various scholars in that field as well to give a better understanding of the material being studied.
David R. Croteau discusses hegemony in detail in chapter five of Media/Society: Industries, Images
and Audiences, hegemony he points out is a term that is as Antonio Gramsci wrote, the notion of
hegemony connects questions of culture, power, and ideology. In short, Gramsci argued that ruling
groups can maintain their power through force, consent, or a combination of the two. (Croteau, pg,
165) However, that is merely an interpretation or as Mcgee would suggest an interpretation of a larger
text. (McGee, pg.274) hegemony could be better understood as a set ideology that has been said to be
true, thus, making it true this is also called learning by tenacity in communication studies, which is
commonly discussed with people believing the earth was flat rather than round. That definition will fit
the argument of this paper.

Papaw Narrative
The year of 2014 was probably one of the craziest times of my life. I never thought things would go
this way. I thought I was going to be living life with my papaw by my side for a long time. I never
thought he would just go away so randomly. There were no warning signs, nothing. To this day I still
think about everything that happened. I can t believe he was taken so soon. I realize that God was
calling his name, and that it was his time to go. We had so many good memories together, and I
wouldn t trade that for the world. He was the best papaw I have ever had, and it sucks that he is gone.
I grew up with my papaw always being at the house. He would just show up to hang out. We d talk
and joke around. He never failed to make me laugh. I ll never forget half the jokes he always said to
me. Some of them weren t very appropriate, but that s just who my papaw was. I remember when the
phone would ring, and I would be the only one around to answer it. I would answer the phone and
some silly voice would come across the phone. It was always my papaw talking some crazy stuff. He
once told me that it was Smokey the Bear, and that he was there to control the forest fires. Some other
times he would ask for a pizza. There was never a time that you would answer the phone and not let
out a giggle. When I was getting ready to leave for Washington D.C, my eighth grade year, he came to
my house to see me before I left. He came to give me some money to shop with and just to joke
around.

Animated Short Movie Essay 2000 words Discussing how technical and artistic achievements are

Throughout the entire animation film, there is no direct expectation of what is happening. Daffy and
the anonymous animator have this very lucrative but interesting interaction between one another that
is hard to distinguish. Even though Daffy is the only character on screen and that his reactions are
what make the comedy possible, the animator persistently changes creative perspective. At one stage,
the animator draws Daffy with a guitar, we then expect to hear the guitar playing. But at first, no
sound is heard when he strikes a chord. Daffy then holds up a sign asking Sound please , shortly after,
we hear a variation of distant sounds that start again, whenever he plays a chord. At first, with a
machine gun, then a horn and finally the sound of a donkey when Daffy strikes the guitar into the
ground in frustration. To make matters worse, the animator goes on to take away Daffy s voice when
he comes back on screen after clearing away the guitar. His voice, now replaced with animal sounds
that Daffy gets embarrassed and distraught over. It is fantastic to see artistic variation between form,
prop and even an anonymous force, but all of this could not compliment each other without the sound
to intensify the moment. (Understanding Animation page 40

Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay
POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question whether
there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of his poem
his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to finding a
meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small and
insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into insignificant
conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the speaker of the poem
encounters a dimpled white spider on a white heal all that has previously caught a white moth. This
seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He suggests
that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the color of goodness,
is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common sight and in no way
spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you might want to call it, himself,
besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a shocking picture and differs from
most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this poem so powerful and striking. His second
idea would be that there is no order and design to life at all. If this small example of destruction was
not the work of some evil force, then so his argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading
the small things on earth. Consequently, if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the
possibility of no god or no design at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far
fetched, almost satiric? Even though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously
focuses on humanity. It is a parody of humans everlasting curiosity and their compulsion to find a
proof for a supreme being and a reason for existence on earth. He is describing a spider killing a moth
while sitting on a flower and despite the fact that there is a perfectly plausible biological

Job Enlargement, Rotation And Enrichment
It is important for organizations to understand how job enlargement, rotation and enrichment, play a
critical role in the workplace motivation. Each of these components has a certain level of similarities
and differences that can be helpful or harmful in an organization. According to Chung and Ross
(1977), horizontal job loading is a phrase used to describe job enlargement. It adds more task elements
to an existing job and requires that employees perform large units of work instead of fragmented
portions. Job enlargement could have the ability to improve employee satisfaction, reduce costs and
potentially increase productivity. It can accomplish this by expanding the responsibilities assigned to
one individual. However, while it seems to have many pros it could also have some setbacks that an
organization should be prepared to handle. Because there are more duties required for the same job, an
employee may experience a level of exhaustion over time. When strategically planning on how job
enlargement will benefit various positions within the company, employees overall physical and mental
well being should be monitored in order to sustain a optimal level of performance and motivation.
According to Lawler (1969), the level of energy required to meet the production rate of jobs that have
been enlarged could decrease the motivation generated by employees overtime. This is not to say that
job enlargement is necessarily bad. It is quite possible that if properly applied, it

Dan Ariely s Predictably Irrational
The profound author of Predictably Irrational is Dan Ariely. When Ariely was a young eighteen year
old Israeli boy, he suffered serious injuries due to an explosion. Tragically, 70% of his body was
covered in third degree burns (xiii). Due to this tragic accident, Ariely became accustomed to an
unnatural viewpoint in economics. The daily bath that the nurses gave Ariely made him experience a
great deal of irrational fears that were persistent and life changing. Once his wounds had healed,
Ariely then sought out to grasp a better understanding of how to better treat patients so that they did
not have to experience the irrational fears that Ariely overcame. This allowed him to begin his field of
research, leading to the creation of this intellectually profound book. ... Show more content on

understanding of the economics behind making predictable choices/decisions. Furthermore, Ariely
wrote this book in order to prove the idea that the rational choices we make on an everyday basis are
actually predictably irrational . The discipline that allows Ariely to challenge the way we think is
called behavioral economics. According to Ariely the latter, draws on aspects of both psychology and
economics (xviii). Ariely accumulated a fascination for behavioral economics. He said, I became
engrossed with the idea that we repeatedly and predictably make the wrong decisions in many aspects
of our lives and that research could help change some of these patterns Through this quote, we begin

Examples Of Alienation Of The Self And Hypocrisy
Alienation of the self and hypocrisy
One of the main aims of the director is to exhibit the alienation of the self and the hypocrisy in modern
society. From the very beginning of the film is made clear by means of the conversation and reactions
within the family once Cristopher has got graduated. The importance of life, from the sight of his
parents, is linked to material possessions and public display. Once the protagonist leaves all his past
behind heading for adventures on his way to Alaska, there is another palatal conversation with one of
his coworkers that clearly highlights this point: why people, why every fucking person is so bad to
each other so fucking often .
This awareness about the hypocrisy and spotlighting the superficiality ... Show more content on

As it is quoted in the novel, Christopher was deeply touched and influenced by Thoreau s ideals, about
both his philosophical and economical approaches. His refusal of capitalism as the economical model
for the system and the individualization it implies keeps pushing him forward, away from society, and
looking a better connection with nature. Nature is thus understood as the summum of virtue and
pureness in contrast with the vices and depravation of the system.
This concept is repeated by means of representing the highest grade of happiness when being in
nature: on the beach, at the top of the mountain, kayaking along the river, running among horses and
going into the wilderness of deep Alaska.
Self Redemption
Despite of the journey, the adventures he comes through and the achievement of his goal, the
protagonist is shown at the very end of the film as a declining being at his twilight. As he sees himself
too much isolated, he realizes about the most important moral in life, which is summarized
handwritten by himself in real life, novel and film adaptation: happiness is only real when shared .
After all his struggles to get into the wild looking for happiness, he spends his last moments thinking
of his relatives, whose he had pushed himself out as they were a load to fulfill his self realization.

Major Organs Involved In The Digestive System
The Digestive system plays an important role in the function of the human body. The digestive system
converts food to energy your body needs to complete everyday activities. The digestive system also
takes the waste in your body and eliminates waste. Major organs included in the process of the
digestive system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. The mouth is where the
process begins. Saliva is added to the food that you chew, which makes it able to travel down the
esophagus.
The esophagus connects the mouth to the stomach, where the process continues. The stomach holds
food while it is being mixed with enzymes. The small intestines release nutrients from the broken

Effects Of Exponential Population Growth
1) What is exponential population growth? I found this a bit confusing the more I researched it. My
understanding of Exponential is when something grows at a rate that doubles 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.
However, it has a little different context when applied to population. The explanation I found that
seems the clearest is as a population s per capita (individual) growth rate stays the same regardless of
population size, the population grows faster and faster as it gets larger (Khan, 2017). 2) Is the global
population growing exponentially and why? This answer (to me) can be yes and no. According to
Roser and Ortiz Ospina (2017), actual growth is declining, but the population is rising. In the 20th
century, the world s population quadrupled; but will not double in the 21st. The fastest doubling period
was 1950 1987 (37 years) when the population grew from 2.5 billion to 5 billion. Since 1962 when the
growth rate was 2.1%, the growth rate has slowed along with the doubling rate. It is also estimated
that the world s population will reach 11 billion by 2088, but will have taken nearly 100 years to get
there. As resources begin to taper off, so will growth this is known as Logistic Growth. I do not
believe we are there yet, however, we are heading there. I do not know if this is an indicator or not,
but Japan is experiencing a population shift where the elderly outnumber the younger and is expected
to increase in the coming decades and the population is shrinking

Abstract Over the past few years, vegan diets have become increasingly popular. However, despite
their growing popularity, few in depth investigations have been done about the subject. Three studies
that were done were over Finnish, Danish, and Vietnamese vegans and were by Elorinne, Kristensen,
and Ho Pham. The objectives of these studies were to find the effects of the vegan diet on macro and
micronutrient intake, as well as its effect on bone mineral density, rate of bone loss, and frequency of
fractures. The methods between them varied but all consisted of an analysis of biomarkers in the body

Compared to the non vegan group, the vegans had low concentrations of vitamins B12 (p=0.002) and
D, even though many used supplements. However, few vegans (5%) were deficient in vitamin B12,
suggesting that the use of supplements helped the vegan subjects keep a healthy level of the vitamin.
The vegans also had a lower concentration of vitamin D (including D2 and 3) by 34% compared to the
non vegans. In spite of this, levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D2 were higher in the vegans (p 0.001). Ten
percent of the vegans and 78% of non vegans had vitamin D concentrations higher than 75 nmol/L,
the proposed optimal level for health. Some possible reasons for these results included lack of, or
irregularity of, supplementation and when the samples were taken. Similar studies done with Finnish,
British, and Vietnamese vegans showed similar concentrations.
Every vegan subject and 91% of non vegans subjects showed mild iodine deficiency when using the
WHO s criteria of 100 micrograms per liter of urine. This result indicates that the non milk drinking
Finnish population, vegans especially, may not be taking in enough iodine. Past studies done over
vegans have also resulted in low levels of iodine in urine.
In the past, few studies have been done to examine long term vegans and their nutrition. As such, this
study gives new information on the subject. Some problems with this study exist, however, such as a

Trauma From Intimate Partner Violence Essay
Stress within the family spreads to stress among other family members. Children from infancy to
adolescence absorb surrounding behaviors as their brain continues to develop, influencing potential
negative behaviors in their adulthood (Osofsky, et al., 2004). Trauma from intimate partner violence
could affect an infant more than an adult for reasons of dependence and periods of critical brain
development which may alter brain functions (Randell, Bledsoe, Shroff, Pierce, 2011). The parents, or
intimate partners, are often viewed by children as strong standing role models. In the eyes of a child,
these role models are seen as their idols, by seeing their idol in a constant state of weakness impacts
their personal understanding of the world and their potential role in it. Parental conflict causes distress
in children as the conflict could pose a direct threat to the child s personal safety (Martinez Torteya,
Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). Although, not every act of conflict results in negative behavior of the
offspring, every relationship has periods of disagreement (Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye,
Davidson, 2005). Influences which may dictate negative consequential behavior in children are the
frequency, intensity, and subject of conflict (Anderson Bang, 2011; Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky,
Eye, Davidson, 2005; Lohman, Neppl, Senia, Schofield, 2013; Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye,

became the richest American ever. In 1913 the Rockefellers invested billions of dollars with the hope
that it would improve their image of doing charity and created a tax free foundation the Rockefeller

Descriptive Essay On The Pond
The Pond
It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been
muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun
shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider,
and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes.
Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was
parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could
wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the
sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and
started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road.
We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get
there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We
made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision.
I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the
brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I d hit the web, panic
and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We d get back up, rinse and repeat for
about another mile. Once we were back

The tittle of the children s literature I analyzed is The House on mango Street by Sandra
Cisneros. The book totals 110 pages and was published (originally in 1984 by Arte Publico) by
First Vintage Contemporaries in 1981. The House on Mango Street is about a Mexican
American girl named Esperanza. Esperanza, her parents, younger brothers Kiki Carlos, and younger
sister Magdalena or Nenny, move to Mango Street when she is about twelve years old.
Thought it is the first home her family owns its is not what they truly want. Specifically for
Esperanza who longs for a beautiful home of her own. Esperanza doesn t like her house, she is
ashamed of it and longs to scape and leave Mango Street behind her. Mango Street is located in
Chicago in a Latin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A battle of guilt and shame over making fun of her loving and supporting aunt turns to wondering if

development regarding friendship and gender is expressed by
Esperanza when she explains that her sister Jenny and she live in a completely different world than her
brothers Carlos and Kiki (Cole, Cole Lightfoot pg.558). And example of her social development is
made evident when she decides that she will not go out with boys from her neighborhood because to
her this would tie her even more to Mango Street, which she observed the woman in her

Dog Parks Benefits
I strongly agree a dog parks benefits all. I think that every state should have a dog park. Dogs need to
exercise. You cant walk your dog without a leash in public areas. Plus it would raise property values.
If a dog doesnt exercise it becomes lazy. The dog can also become unhealthy. Most of the time dogs
can t just run around any where they want. If they had a park then no one would have to worry about
the dangers of someone being bitten. If dogs are always house bond it can cause bad behavior. It can
even cause for the dog to attack the owner. Which does nt sound like a good thing.
If I were a dog owner i would nt want my dog on the leash all the time. I would feel like I was tryna
choke it everytime the dog ran. Having a dog

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different
characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner
mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which
characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from
earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was
a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and
Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on
characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are
woven within the zealously intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a distant woman and
the another one is a passion for gambling that Dostoyevsky himself at the time was struggling with. At
the same time, the novel was inspired by the topic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We got to know a sad and unexpected truth about Alexei s character. He is compulsively drawn into
gambling like all the other characters who crave for risks and elusive luck. He asks himself: Can I
possibly not understand myself that I m a lost man? But why can t I resurrect? Yes! It only takes being
calculating and patient at least once in your life and that s all! It only takes being steadfast at least
once, and in an hour I can change my whole destiny! Yet we do not know how that ends. His personal
struggle is left unresolved. He might have had an another crack at trying to connect with the women of
his dreams when Mr. Astley tells him that she was in love with him all the time, but a bad feeling in
the reader s stomach tells us that he might very easily go back to

Data Collection Tool Used For Information About Individuals
A survey is a process of obtaining information or a general view, examination, or description of
something. It is a data collection tool used to gather information about individuals. It has a variety of
purposes and can actually be conducted in many ways. One of the ways is by printed questionnaire,
over the telephone, by mail, in person, by diskette, or on the web. However, the information is
collected through the use of standardized procedures. This is to ensure that every participant is asked
the same question in the same way (uniform). It entails asking the participants for information in a
structured format. Notably, the participants being surveyed may be representing themselves or their
organization depending on what is being asked. They may also focus on factual information about
individuals. Generally, surveys are standardized to ensure that they have reliability and validity. This
is very important so that the results can be generalized to the entire population. However, this paper
will discuss the following questions/concerns based on the survey questionnaire answered: my thought
on the length of each survey instrument, my thought on the open minded questions, whether I
preferred completing the surveys or open ended questions, which methodology I believe is most useful
in the examination of each variable/construct, and how this experience might influence my research
design.

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Worldviews Comparing Worldviews Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or both. Worldview s purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found. When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum ... • 3. Consequences of Popular Culture Consequences of Popular Culture A Consequence can be defined as, Something that logically or naturally follows from an action or condition. In this matter we are referring to the consequences of Pop Culture towards violence. Violence in general has one meaning, an act of aggression. We will be examining three types of violence in our culture, Domestic violence, Youth violence, and of course Gun violence. We feel that all three of these types of violence have increased in today s society as a consequence of pop culture. Popular culture, or pop culture, is the people s culture that prevails in a modern society. The content of popular culture is determined in large part by industries that disseminate cultural material, for example the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We feel this compromise in our culture has only led to consequences as far as violence. Domestic violence generally means, violence or physical abuse directed toward your spouse or domestic partner; usually violence by men against women, but can also include other siblings. Domestic violence is caused specifically by the choice to engage in violent or abusive behavior against a partner, sibling or child. A variety of factors can lead to that choice. We feel that the pop culture like rap music takes part in some of the factors that lead to domestic violence. Rap music has a way of sending subliminal messages of degrading your spouse or any women at that. We also include the movie industries as well for example the hit movie Hustle and Flow which had a song called Whoop that Trick and a scene of domestic violence. Films like this can make the minds of people comfortable with the facts of domestic violence, in other words thinking it just happens. It is estimated that every year in the United States, approximately 3 million women are assaulted by their partner. Many of these incidents go unreported to authorities due to the shame and fear associated with domestic violence. In 1998, of the approximately 1.5 million violent crimes committed between intimate partners, over 876,000 of the victims were women, and over 835,000 were men. • 4. The Role Of Women In Matthew LewisThe Monk And The Italian Matthew Lewis The Monk differs from Ann Radcliffe s The Italian in its portrayal of women. Since both The Monk and The Italian feature prominent female religious leaders, comparing the different ways The Monk and The Italian portray this specific group of women sheds light on each author s attitude toward female agency. The latter refers to the ability to exercise control in pursuing individual goals. Both The Monk and The Italian depict tyrannical head nuns abusing their agency. However, the horrific descriptions and exclusive focus on diabolical nuns in The Monk exudes a pessimistic attitude towards female agency as invariably leading to catastrophes. By contrast, The Italian reveals a more optimistic attitude towards female agency through its more subtle depiction of the cruel nuns and its acknowledgement of benevolent nuns, proposing that female agency can be channeled to good causes. In The Monk, the Prioress abuses her agency in tyrannical ways. The Prioress imprisons women and rules by fear, oppressing the women within her convent. She consider[s] [women of rank] quitting the Convent, as a disgrace thrown upon it and will use every artifice to avoid [that] (169). Not only does she imprison women, she also subdues them by fear as seen by how Mother St. Ursula describes her fear that her every action [is] observed, [her] every step [is] traced and that [she is] constantly surrounded by the Superior s spies (273). English Literature in the Victorian Era I m no lunatic man, I m a sane man fighting for his soul this quote from Bram Stoker s Dracula, illustrates and foreshadows that in the Victorian era, a quest for meaning was seen by the majority of society as lunacy , however the characters that Stoker uses, are represented sane , suggesting Stoker s encouragement of a quest for meaning and purpose in the Victorian era of increasing uncertainty. Along with Stoker, Charles Dickens and Lord Alfred Tennyson also address the individual s pursuit for meaning and purpose, linking this idea specifically with themes of capitalism, class and gender inequality, corruption, freedom and oppression; which I will be using to comparing and contrasting the writers, closely analysing the driving ... Moreover from a Marxist perspective, stokers demonstration of Dracula s pursuit to subject London to claim the blood that would maintain his life can be interpreted from a Marxist point of view as the upper class exploiting the working class to maintain capitalism within society. In contrast with Dickens portal of Bounderby in hard times he shares similar qualities in comparison with Dracula using his power and status as an advantage of mistreating his workers, where he views them as hands , undermining them subsequently because of their working class status. Dracula s castle and Bounderby s bank are the motif of their power and status, these are Stokers and Dickens portrayal of their embodiment of capitalism. These writers illustrate how much power Dracula and Bounderby had upon society to illustrate the impact capitalism bought upon society and the exploitation they inflicted upon the working class. Dracula s embodiment of capitalism also ironically shares similar traits to and, mirrors the decline of the British Empire and the greed they had for power, their immoral work of colonising half of the world is almost as equivalent with Dracula s constant thirst for power, where being content is not an option for both Dracula and the British Empire. • 7. American Culture In Nigeria Paper 2 Nigerian society changed significantly with the introduction of European values. Of those changes one of the greatest was the introduction of individualism, rather than the pride people had in the tribal system. The rise of individualism changes every society, but the Nigerian society was greatly affected and saw more Nigerian trying to leave to live in other countries with greater opportunities. One example of this would be Elvis in the short story Graceland, who wanted to move to America to pursue a career as an Elvis impersonator. This profession is an odd one, especially considering the Nigerian culture, but with the rise in individualism there is more in an emphasis on individual dreams in the society. This dream job helps to illuminate the cultural difference that began to occur once western values and ideas took prominence in the Nigerian culture changing the culture into more a European or American society with individualism being a cornerstone in the society. ... With the American Dream, Elvis could become anything he wanted to be, but he chooses to become an Elvis impersonator. Financial Data Analysis Essay Financial Data Analysis Daphnnee Johnson HCS 577 March 18, 2013 Sharon Gomes Sanders Financial Data Analysis After reviewing the balance sheet for Patton Fuller Hospital for 2008 and 2009, there are significant differences that are noticeable. The retained earnings (or Net Worth or Unrestricted Fund Balance ) drastically decreased from 2008 to 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). The dollar amount decrease is 209,471, this makes a decrease of over 65%. Long term debt increase to more than 116% from 2008 to 2009 as well (Apollo Group, 2006). This is a massively huge increase. This occurred in 2008, but in 2009 in accordance to her will, the hospital received a money donation from her estate. This $1,000,000 donation is noted as an unrestricted donation (Apollo Group, 2006). This unrestricted donation is recorded on the Interim Statement of Income in December 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). Declines in the stock market and real estate markets resulted in a sharp drop in the return on investment income. This caused PFCH to reassess the value of its investments and, on their auditors advice, to write down those assets (Apollo Group, 2006, p. 3). Another reason the number were so drastically different was because every December Patton Fuller Community Hospital conducts an annual inventory (Apollo Group, 2006). When the hospital conducted its inventory their expenses for their supplies were way underestimated by about a million dollars (Apollo Group, 2006). So this had to be added on as a cost to December s statement. This underestimate of supply expenses made January to November s reports not correct, so December had to report the actual figures (Apollo Group, 2006). Therefore, December looked like it was a crazy month for the hospital. • 9. Compare And Contrast Antigone And Civil Disobedience While both Antigone and Martin Luther King Jr. fought for their religious and human rights, I believe that Martin Luther King Jr. s ability to use both religion and nationalism gave him the ability to achieve his goal of civil disobedience in ways that Antigone could not. Martin Luther King Jr. used his religious background to give his claim greater influence in the deep south, calling upon every one of the Christian faith to rally behind a Reverend in trouble. His call to nationalism gave him the ability to have the nation standing with him against the leaders of Birmingham, evoking a sense of pride and unity in the nation against this injustice. Antigone used her civil disobedience to fight for her religious right to bury her brother Polyneices body. While Antigone remained nonviolent throughout her protest, her lack of negotiation with Kreon shows that her civil disobedience was misguided. Antigone failed to rationalize with Kreon, instead choosing to blatantly disobey without exhausting all of her options. Martin Luther King Jr. s use of religion, nationalism, and negotiation are why I believe that his civil disobedience was more effective than Antigone s. While Antigone followed her belief of burying Polyneices for religious reasons, she went against the law of Kreon. Antigone new that the punishment for burying Polyneices was a stoning by the city s people (Sophocles 36), but she chose to bury her brother anyway, claiming, He has no business keeping me from what is mine (Sophocles 49). Antigone s lack of negotiation is why her civil disobedience is a failure. Her choice to bury Polyneice s body without any attempt of finding common ground with Kreon is foolish. Although Antigone met with Kreon after being discovered burying Polyneices body, she never actually attempts to negotiate with Kreon, instead choosing to accept her punishment as something already set in stone. When Kreon first meets Antigone, he asks if Antigone admits to the deed (Sophocles 442). Antigone s only response was, I don t deny it; I admit the deed was mine (Sophocles 443). This shows that Antigone made her choice of civil disobedience and accepted her fate before exhausting all options. Rather than pleading with Kreon and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay about Jim Crow s Legacy While the Emancipation Proclamation marked the end of slavery in the U.S., it did little to address the racism that remained. Left unchecked, that racism, like a weed, grew and its roots permeated almost all sectors of American culture spreading from the southern white population throughout the local and state governments south of the Mason Dixon Line. Jim Crow laws provided legal loopholes that skirted the spirit of the Emancipation Proclamation and they gave legal cover to those who longed for the pre Civil War/Reconstruction era. While if this same approach were applied by white people against other white people, they would have been considered illegal, immoral and inhumane; the second class citizenry that Black America had been received no such indignation. By the time Plessy v. Ferguson, the statue that established legal inequality, was overturned by Brown v. She would take the possibility of catching a disease where one can only see white in order to remain with her husband who is ill. By staying with her husband while he is in desperate need of help, she proves that she is one of the kindest characters in the novel. When the doctor s wife was forced to have intercourse, she was traumatized, and knew that she needed to find a way to end the catastrophe. This means millions of animals will be killed in the years to come, but hopefully we take the time to find a safe alternative. Aircraft Wing Essay Design and Analysis of aircraft Wing Suraj Kumar K L University, Green Fields, Vaddeswaram, Guntur District, A.P, INDIA, 522502 Department of Mechanical Engineering, (id no. 13007522) Abstract: This deals with bending Finite Element Analysis of the aircraft wing using commercial software ANSYS. An aircraft wing is made of composite with fibre angles in each ply aligned in different direction. Various air foil thickness and ply angles were considered to study the effect of bending torsion decoupling. The laminate characteristics are usually calculated using the number of layer, stacking sequence, geometric and mechanical properties. A finite number of layers can be combined to form so many laminates. The only restriction that is imposed on the laminate as an element of composite structure concerns its total thickness which is assumed to be much smaller than the other dimensions of the structure. Aircraft wing model as per the plan should be made in FEA and the model is subjected to various loading. The loading given by the self weight or due to acceleration due to gravity was discussed and the deflection over here should be calculated. • 17. The Turn Of The Screw Ghost Essay The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, is ghost story that focuses on a young governess that encounters a pair of ghosts. These ghosts play an important role in the story, but there has always been a debate over whether the ghosts exist inside the story, or if they exist only in the governess head. There is evidence within the book to support either claim, so the reality of the apparitions ultimately depends on the reader s opinion. This paper will support the opinion that the two ghosts that the governess sees are ultimately just figments of her imagination. Even though the governess ghosts are not real, she believes them to be real, and her reaction to this belief precipitates the unfortunate conclusion. The Turn of the Screw is a ghost story, but the real ghosts in the book are mostly ignored, which is not uncommon in literature, and examples of ignored ghosts can be found in other works as well. The two ghosts in The Turn of the Screw are ultimately just figments of the governess imagination, due in part to her high emotional state. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plants are the major source of vitamin B6 for animals, yet the biosynthesis pathway and the function of vitamin B6 in plants are not well elucidated. In this study, an Arabidopsis pyridoxine synthase gene PDX1 was characterized and its in vivo functions were investigated. The PDX1 gene was expressed in all plant parts examined and its expression level was not significantly regulated by abiotic stress or the phytohormone abscisic acid. In roots, PDX1 was highly expressed in a defined region behind the root tips that undergoes rapid cell division. The PDX1 protein was mainly associated with the plasma membrane and endomembranes, implying a potential involvement of vitamin B6 in membrane function. To reveal the in vivo role of PDX1, Arabidopsis insertional mutants were isolated. Strikingly, the pdx1 knockout mutants were impaired in root growth and early seedling development. The stunted roots resulted from both reduced cell division and elongation. Supplementation of the growth media with pyridoxine or reintroduction of the wild type PDX1 gene into the mutants completely restored the mutant growth, demonstrating that PDX1 is required for pyridoxine biosynthesis in planta. In addition to the developmental defects, pdx1 mutants are hypersensitive to osmotic stress and oxidative stress.

  • 20. In The Bhagavad Gita And ConfuciusThe Analects The quest towards developing the ideal human character is sought after in both the Bhagavad Gita and Confucius The Analects. In the Bhagavad Gita, the concept of sacred duty is prevalent throughout the text, as the warrior prince Arjuna faces a moral dilemma throughout the story. In Confucius The Analects, filial piety is a virtue which impacts an individual s character in relation to the Confucian religion. Sacred duty within the Gita requires the protection of one s dharma, which is defined as the religious and moral law that manages an individual s actions. Within Confucian thought, filial piety is a virtue of respect for one s elders, ancestors, and parents within a community. Despite the differences between the contextual meanings of developing the ideal human, both the Bhagavad Gita and The Analects utilize their teachings towards developing ideal human character within the themes of sacred duty and filial piety with the goal of establishing a set of communal ethics to be maintained through different caste systems, essentially protecting the existing social structure. To argue this claim, I will begin by analyzing the similar intentions of deviating from selfish actions and thoughts to develop ideal human character. I will then express how the nature of this character leads towards the development of one s sacred duty and filial piety. I will then connect these two ideas to show how together they work to develop a communal set of ethics aimed at maintaining order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Poetry Analysis Robert Frost Essay POETRY ANALYSIS: DESIGN Robert Frost s poem Design seemingly disputes the question whether there is a design to life; yet, he is not able to establish an answer. Despite the comlexity of his poem his implied message is rather simple. Frost s statement clarified human s eagerness to finding a meaning to life and an essential background and reason to events, regardless of how small and insignificant they might be. His work states an advice not to interpret too much into insignificant conincidences or apportion them too much relevance. During the first stanza, the speaker of the poem encounters a dimpled white spider on a white heal all that has previously caught a white moth. This seemingly coincidental situation is so distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, he proposes two answers on how the conincidence might have happenend. He suggests that a design of darkness, an evil power, delectated by conceiling a bad deed in the color of goodness, is to be held responsible. Yet, a spider killing an insect is a fairly common sight and in no way spectacular. This would imply, that the designer, God, or whatever you might want to call it, himself, besides all the beauty on earth, also created destruction. This is a shocking picture and differs from most peoples image of a creator which is what makes this poem so powerful and striking. His second idea would be that there is no order and design to life at all. If this small example of destruction was not the work of some evil force, then so his argumentation there can be no God or goodness leading the small things on earth. Consequently, if small things on earth are not governed by a good force, the possibility of no god or no design at all is given. But does this form of reasoning not seem a little far fetched, almost satiric? Even though Robert Frost is known for agnostic poetry, this poem obviously focuses on humanity. It is a parody of humans everlasting curiosity and their compulsion to find a proof for a supreme being and a reason for existence on earth. • 31. Job Enlargement, Rotation And Enrichment It is important for organizations to understand how job enlargement, rotation and enrichment, play a critical role in the workplace motivation. Each of these components has a certain level of similarities and differences that can be helpful or harmful in an organization. According to Chung and Ross (1977), horizontal job loading is a phrase used to describe job enlargement. It adds more task elements to an existing job and requires that employees perform large units of work instead of fragmented portions. Job enlargement could have the ability to improve employee satisfaction, reduce costs and potentially increase productivity. It can accomplish this by expanding the responsibilities assigned to one individual. However, while it seems to have many pros it could also have some setbacks that an organization should be prepared to handle. Because there are more duties required for the same job, an employee may experience a level of exhaustion over time. When strategically planning on how job enlargement will benefit various positions within the company, employees overall physical and mental well being should be monitored in order to sustain a optimal level of performance and motivation. According to Lawler (1969), the level of energy required to meet the production rate of jobs that have been enlarged could decrease the motivation generated by employees overtime. From the very beginning of the film is made clear by means of the conversation and reactions within the family once Cristopher has got graduated. The importance of life, from the sight of his parents, is linked to material possessions and public display. Once the protagonist leaves all his past behind heading for adventures on his way to Alaska, there is another palatal conversation with one of his coworkers that clearly highlights this point: why people, why every fucking person is so bad to each other so fucking often . Nature is thus understood as the summum of virtue and pureness in contrast with the vices and depravation of the system. This concept is repeated by means of representing the highest grade of happiness when being in nature: on the beach, at the top of the mountain, kayaking along the river, running among horses and going into the wilderness of deep Alaska. My understanding of Exponential is when something grows at a rate that doubles 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. However, it has a little different context when applied to population. The explanation I found that seems the clearest is as a population s per capita (individual) growth rate stays the same regardless of population size, the population grows faster and faster as it gets larger (Khan, 2017). 2) Is the global population growing exponentially and why? This answer (to me) can be yes and no. According to Roser and Ortiz Ospina (2017), actual growth is declining, but the population is rising. In the 20th century, the world s population quadrupled; but will not double in the 21st. The fastest doubling period was 1950 1987 (37 years) when the population grew from 2.5 billion to 5 billion. However, few vegans (5%) were deficient in vitamin B12, suggesting that the use of supplements helped the vegan subjects keep a healthy level of the vitamin. The vegans also had a lower concentration of vitamin D (including D2 and 3) by 34% compared to the non vegans. In spite of this, levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D2 were higher in the vegans (p 0.001). Ten percent of the vegans and 78% of non vegans had vitamin D concentrations higher than 75 nmol/L, the proposed optimal level for health. Some possible reasons for these results included lack of, or irregularity of, supplementation and when the samples were taken. Similar studies done with Finnish, British, and Vietnamese vegans showed similar concentrations. Every vegan subject and 91% of non vegans subjects showed mild iodine deficiency when using the WHO s criteria of 100 micrograms per liter of urine. Past studies done over vegans have also resulted in low levels of iodine in urine. In the past, few studies have been done to examine long term vegans and their nutrition. • 41. Trauma From Intimate Partner Violence Essay Stress within the family spreads to stress among other family members. Children from infancy to adolescence absorb surrounding behaviors as their brain continues to develop, influencing potential negative behaviors in their adulthood (Osofsky, et al., 2004). Trauma from intimate partner violence could affect an infant more than an adult for reasons of dependence and periods of critical brain development which may alter brain functions (Randell, Bledsoe, Shroff, Pierce, 2011). The parents, or intimate partners, are often viewed by children as strong standing role models. In the eyes of a child, these role models are seen as their idols, by seeing their idol in a constant state of weakness impacts their personal understanding of the world and their potential role in it. Parental conflict causes distress in children as the conflict could pose a direct threat to the child s personal safety (Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). Although, not every act of conflict results in negative behavior of the offspring, every relationship has periods of disagreement (Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye, Davidson, 2005). Influences which may dictate negative consequential behavior in children are the frequency, intensity, and subject of conflict (Anderson Bang, 2011; Dejonghe, Bogat, Levendosky, Eye, Davidson, 2005; Lohman, Neppl, Senia, Schofield, 2013; Martinez Torteya, Bogat, Eye, Levendosky, 2009). • 43. Descriptive Essay On The Pond The Pond It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes. Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that s what we began to do. But, as we sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn t stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road. We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. We can keep going down here and get there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that ll be faster. We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision. I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I d hit the web, panic and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We d get back up, rinse and repeat for about another mile. Once we were back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Dog Parks Benefits I strongly agree a dog parks benefits all. I think that every state should have a dog park. Dogs need to exercise. You cant walk your dog without a leash in public areas. Plus it would raise property values. If a dog doesnt exercise it becomes lazy. The dog can also become unhealthy. Most of the time dogs can t just run around any where they want. If they had a park then no one would have to worry about the dangers of someone being bitten. If dogs are always house bond it can cause bad behavior. It can even cause for the dog to attack the owner. Which does nt sound like a good thing. If I were a dog owner i would nt want my dog on the leash all the time. I would feel like I was tryna choke it everytime the dog ran. Having a dog ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are woven within the zealously intricated storyline. • 49. Data Collection Tool Used For Information About Individuals A survey is a process of obtaining information or a general view, examination, or description of something. It is a data collection tool used to gather information about individuals. It has a variety of purposes and can actually be conducted in many ways. One of the ways is by printed questionnaire, over the telephone, by mail, in person, by diskette, or on the web. However, the information is collected through the use of standardized procedures. This is to ensure that every participant is asked the same question in the same way (uniform). It entails asking the participants for information in a structured format. Notably, the participants being surveyed may be representing themselves or their organization depending on what is being asked. They may also focus on factual information about individuals. Generally, surveys are standardized to ensure that they have reliability and validity. This is very important so that the results can be generalized to the entire population. However, this paper will discuss the following questions/concerns based on the survey questionnaire answered: my thought on the length of each survey instrument, my thought on the open minded questions, whether I preferred completing the surveys or open ended questions, which methodology I believe is most useful in the examination of each variable/construct, and how this experience might influence my research design.
