Detroit Urban redevelopment Essay
DETROIT, known as the Automotive Capital of the World, is the largest city in the state of Michigan.
The city sits at the heart of an official three county metropolitan region comprising Wayne, Oakland,
and Macomb counties.
As we look at the current condition of Detroit Michigan, you would ponder what made the city look so
ran down and why did everyone abandoned a once known as a beautiful city. If one were to look at
older pictures of the city back in its earlier years they wouldn t be able to tell that the city used to have
life with in it. Detroit was founded on 24 July 1701, by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, a French
military officer and explorer, as a base to block British expansion. The permanent outpost system did

It was then that the city started to regain its vivacity. Then others decided they too could build cars,
thus giving the city the nick name of the motor city . If one were to look at the current conditions of
Detroit compared to the way it was a hundred years ago one may question how could a city be so full
of decay and emptiness. Before one could answer that question they have to really look deep within
the history of Detroit and the reasoning for so many buildings. When Henry Ford decided to make the
horseless carriage it became an evolution which spun into the first automobile the model T. As ford
was the originator and the first to offer five dollars per day. It wasn t long afterwards that other
manufacturers like General Motors came along. As mentioned on Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown,
one of the largest buildings built for the automotive era was the Packard Plant which closed its doors
in 1956 at one time employed 33,000. It is now one of the 80,000 abandoned buildings in Detroit. The
factory is over a mile long and has one of the best views of the city (Bourdain). Charles La Duff a
guest on the television show a long time resident clearly points out that Detroit was built on wealth
from the whites, as they moved to the suburbs so did their money. The middle class blacks moved in
and made it their own until it became too rough for them to survive and

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory
Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their
advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player, who
asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the audience.
The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time where they failed
in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers Jordan s proposed question
with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this essay, I will argue that Gatorade s
The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using rhetorical components and focusing on
defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but this commercial does a great job of
reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement targets athletes of the older generation,
along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two retired players, Peyton Manning and Michael
Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their careers, Eli Manning and Serena Williams, and
three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns.
The different ages in the commercial are extremely effective because athletes that would be interested
in Gatorade s products vary in age, and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. Also, the
inclusion of Serena Williams can appeal to the female athletes that view the

Entrepreneurship Is An Integral Part Of Our Economy
Introduction:
Entrepreneurship can best be defined as a way of managing that involves pursuing opportunity,
assembling resources, implementing action plans, and harvesting rewards in a timely and flexible way
(Shalman Stevenson). Those who find passion and purpose in the management, and conceptual
thinking of entrepreneurship are known as entrepreneurs. This type of management involving
entrepreneurs has become an integral part of our economy in the United States, and globally since the
beginning of the modern era, impacting billions of people in its wake through many different social
and political facets. As entrepreneurs set out on these ventures in growing small businesses that have
changed so much about the world, there are always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This then, would suggest that the success of the business or venture started from the root, which is, of
course, the entrepreneur who has been successful. Entrepreneurs start as managers who must make the
leap from comfortableness to taking major risks with a potential for growth and success, but also
downfall and failure. Although there are many different types of personalities that an entrepreneur can
possess there are two main elements of thinking that a manager must have to be an entrepreneur.
These are that the manager must have a self perceived power and ability to realize goals internally,
and also have an external desire to find a future state that is characterized by growth and change
(Shalman Stevenson.) These are two foundational characteristics that an entrepreneur must have, but
having these two does not correlate to success simply on their own.
Why History Matters: In order to understand the impacts of entrepreneurial businesses globally, the
history itself and historical concepts behind it must also be understood. After all, most of the concepts
used by entrepreneurs and professional management today have been influenced by previous
experiences and historical perspectives. As an example of this, modern entrepreneurs often ask
investors for startup capital, and this has always been this way. In the thirteenth century, Marco Polo,
the famous explorer, wanted to trade with Asia, but wasn t sure how to get the materials he wanted to
trade there, so

Two Major Themes In Poetic Realism
Isolation and fatalism are two major themes in this film. the main characters are trapped and they try
hard to escape the current situations. The army deserter heading for the port of Le Havre, Jean is on
the run from a society run by a criminal underworld. His solitary figure associates with the fog in the
opening shot of the film. What he faces was fatal since he had no choices. He could only run away;
otherwise, his life would be in danger. A 17 year old abused girl, Nelly who is trapped by her
godfather, Zabel tries to run away from him. In the beginning of the film, Jean and Nelly are used to
be isolated by the society. Both are not connected with other people. It is not surprising that they want
to escape from the current traps later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zabel is a respectable businessman who loves religious music and the finer. However, there is a
shameful and jealous heart hides in his body that he lusts for his goddaughter Nelly. This is a rather
immoral theme shown in Quai des brumes. Moreover, Poetic Realism films focus on working class
characters and the theme of doomed love, which is the blending of comedy and tragedy. Compared to
Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious character.(Linda Nochlin,
Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism are usually marginal characters in the society.
Jean undoubtedly represents the marginal characters in the society. He carries a national identity,
which is the army in 1930s and represents the lower class in the society. When he meets the beautiful
girl, Nelly, these two fall in love immediately and passionately.Nelly says. They have real happiness
and the love is shared, but in this film s bleak world it is inevitably going to be dearly bought.
Therefore, their love is romantic but at the same time, it is also a tragic. The only way Jean can be
with Nelly is if he deals with the corrupt men that are causing troubles for her. Unfortunately, it turns
out to be a tragic end for the

Ring Neck Snakes Research Paper
The Diadophis punctatus, or more commonly known as the ring neck snake, is a harmless nocturnal
snake that lives throughout the eastern and central part of North America. In Idaho, ring neck snakes
can be found at the west and south east part of the state.
Ring neck snakes live in various habitats. However, they prefer areas with damp soil and temperatures
between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. Mostly, their habitats are grasslands, rocky hillsides, coniferous
forests, farmland, chaparrals, and mixed woodlands. Ring neck snakes also like hiding, so most of the
time they can be found beneath stones or barks from dead trees.
The ring neck snake has a yellow ring on its neck, and its backside s body color varies between gray,

Dance Salsa Research Paper
Dance has always been a part of my life, whether it was from the first day my mom taught me salsa in
the family room to now performing in front of huge crowds around my community. Whether its
ballroom, west coast, or country, I have been able to express myself in ways that I never thought
possible. Through my commitment and perseverance I strive to become a better and more
knowledgeable dancer every day. I continue to learn new things and search for opportunities to widen
my horizons and interact with the dance community. My passion grows with me as I grow as a dancer
and I hope to be able to share that passion with others for the rest of my life.
I started dance at the age of 8, well officially that is. Long before then however I had begun to learn
from my mom. We would spend our Sunday s cleaning the house listening to latin music and she
would teach me how to dance salsa. That was how I first discovered what it was to dance. I kept
learning and having fun with her every week until a talent show at my school offered me an
opportunity to showcase (what I thought at the time) was a vast amount of knowledge. So I told my
mother about it, but she thought that our days spent learning salsa were just harmless fun with no big
aims such as the one I had presented her with. So she said no. And ... Show more content on

was unheard of! But I went to see it and when I got there it blew my mind. These people were dancing
right along to the music hitting the hits doing dips and tricks that complemented the music, footwork
that I couldn t even try to wrap my head around. But above it all these people were having fun. The
dancers were wrapped up in the moment smiling, having the time of their lives. The competition didn t
matter to them, it was about enjoying the art of dance. And I knew right away that it was something I

Emergency Management And Emergency Preparedness
Emergency Management

Introduction
Terror attacks have become a norm in the modern society, and the occurrence of these attacks has
escalated in the past few years. Back in September 2001, the United States of America oversaw the
darkest period in their history. A total of 19 militants affiliated with the terrorist group Al Qaeda,
hijacked four commercial passenger planes and flew 2 of them into the World Trade Centre, 1 hit the
Pentagon, while the other one crash landed in Pennsylvania. In the wake of these attacks, a trail of
death, destruction, and emotional instability was left behind. What followed was the realization of the
importance of emergency management and emergency preparedness in the United States.
This paper takes an in depth and detailed look at these attacks, their overall impact in terms of
economic and social status, and a detailed look at how different countries and organizations can
effectively prepare themselves to deal with disasters by using excellent emergency management skills.
Body
After the 9/11 attacks, an estimated 3,000 innocent Americans lost their lives while properties worth
billions of dollars was destroyed. Since then, the impacts of the attacks are still being felt, more than
15 years after the tragedy. As it is the case with any attack, the economy, stability and political state of
the affected country is usually affected. In general, the 9/11 attacks had both

Compare And Contrast Athens And Ancient Greece
Classical Greece The early development of Greek society was influenced by many societies such as
the Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Minoans. For instance, the earliest Greek writing style which was
called Linear B was influenced by the Minoan writing style called Linear A. Furthermore, the Greeks
not only adopted the Minoans writing style but they also used the ship building and agricultural
techniques used by the Egyptians and the Phoenicians. Despite their similarities, the Greeks had their
characteristics that distinguished them from the rest. The Greeks were never unified but they did
create one of the world s most remarkable cultural eras. The most important city states of Ancient
Greece was Sparta and Athens. Both of these city states shared similar characteristics such as both
would remain the foundation for the Greek political world. Both Athens and Sparta had a similar
government system. Their members were elected by the people. Athens is said to be the of democracy.
Athenians were educated(except girls) but they never knew much about brute force, unlike the
Spartans. The Spartans changed their society to remove all social distinction and became the greatest
soldiers in Greece. Even girls were trained to become soldiers because for the Spartans there is no
such thing as inequality; women can do the job of mem. However, in Athens, girls did not receive an
education like the boys in Athen did but, instead, were expected to become housewives. The Greeks
never unified

Does Our Increasingly Mechanized World Cause Us You Feel...
Does our increasingly mechanized world cause us to feel alienated?
It can be argued that life has never been so easy. We are surrounded by plentitudes. food is freely
available in the West. Information is taken for granted, and we often dont want for nothing.
Yet there are signs and many reasons to suggest that we are far from happy despite this new age of
overabundance and the freedom it affords us.
Life in this age is unsatisfying for many, with people exhibiting clear signs of dissastisfaction, and a
sense of unease and angst. Our society and all its needs for advancement from technology and
overabundance is our chosen answer to all our problems, and we rely on such things for a higher
quality and easier life.
Yet, it doesnt seem to be getting better, our problems continue and in ways even increase as a result of
our incessant progression towards a brighter future.
Amidst the massive changes in society we face, we as a result constantly question our reality and
purpose within it, and this rapid mechanized world usually pushes aside any sense of community. I
think a capitalist; consumerist society creates in us a sense of alienation entirely new to our modern
times.
I want to understand the deeper reasons behind this, not only because i think it is very important but
also because i feel it is largely misunderstand and overlooked for such a huge complicated issue
within our society.
I will look at Marx and Engels.

Persuasive Essay On Environmental Sustainability
The current global population of 7.6 billion people is expected to reach 11.2 billion in 2100 (UN
DESA), and as the Earth s population continues to grow exponentially, the topic of environmental
sustainability is being debated with increased urgency. In the past few years, many large scale
environmental issues have emerged due to human activities: climate change, air and water pollution,
rising sea levels, habitat loss, species extinction, and worsening natural disasters are all becoming
more and more prevalent. But perhaps our most immediate concern should be whether or not we will
be able to continue feeding this ever increasing population.
While all of us relatively understand how driving cars, leaving the lights on, or using too much water
can affect the environment, there is one massive human activity that is frequently overlooked eating.
From growing, to processing, to distributing, and finally consuming, our agricultural system uses an
immense portion of our planet s limited resources and emits large amounts of greenhouse gases that
have drastic effects on the environment. Because of this, it is imperative to understand the
environmental impacts of the type of foods that we choose to include in our diets. While much of
today s population is heavily reliant on animal products, it is evident that a meat based diet is not
environmentally sustainable; on the other hand, a plant based diet is much more environmentally
friendly in terms of the amount of grain, water, and

Bread Is Not Charity In The Giver By Elie Wiesel
Giving bread is not charity when the giver does not have good intentions. The person only wishes to
see the chaos that ensues and find amusement from it. Thereby making the giver come off as greedy
and selfish. The German worker threw bread to the Jews, causing a quarrel in the train car as the Jews
fight and turn against each other for the bread. During the quarrel, a father in the crowd desperately
eats the bread, only to be trampled by his own son and dies right in front of him. The son takes the
bread and eats it and eventually gets trampled by the raging crowd. As the spectacle went on, the
German worker watched in great amusement (Ellie Wiesel pg 100). The giver (the German worker)
gave the bread on purpose for his own amusement, therefore,

Duty Of Rights In The Case Of Flyway Pty Ltd
Just like other directors in corporations, Australian directors are obliged to duties found in all other
jurisdictions. The directors of Flyway Pty Ltd were subject to duty of care and duty of loyalty.
Directors act on behalf of shareholders and have a liability to perform and make decisions that are to
the best interest of the company. Though the directors are given power to make decisions regarding
the continuity of an organization, they are answerable to shareholders and can be penalized under

Social Organization and Laws in the Trobiand Islands
Bronislaw Malinowski argued that law functions in and shapes daily life in every culture. Regardless
of whether it is a civilized society or a savage society, every culture has laws and there are among the
many norms of conduct in savage societies regarded as compulsory obligations of one individual or
group towards another individual or group (Malinowski, 1985, 12). Laws are essential in every culture
regardless of whether savage or civilized (Malinowski, 1985, 13). Malinowski believed that all
societies had laws, rules, and customs that are followed; in addition to hard laws, there are also social
morals and obligations that are followed. It may be culture specific, but it exists in all cultures.
Malinowski argued that there is a number of laws, taboos and obligations in every human culture
which weigh heavily on every citizen, demand great self sacrifice, and are obeyed for moral,
sentimental or matter of fact reasons, but without any spontaneity (Malinowski, 1985, 13 14). While
there are laws written down to be followed, there are also moral laws that should not be broken; within
every society, civilized or not, some do break laws; as a result, there are punishments that come after,
some harsher than others.
Malinowski went to study the culture of the Trobriand Islands in Melanesia from 1915 to 1918. In
order to grasp an understanding of how a culture works, he believed an anthropologist must live in the
society to adequately record how everyday life works and

Arranged Marriages And Love Marriages
Wufeng Yuan

5 May 2015
Arranged Marriage:
In the broadest sense, marriages have been divided into two general categories; arranged marriages
and love marriages. As the name implies, an arranged marriage is defined as a marriage where the
bride and groom are exclusively selected by a third party (usually their parents), while in a love
marriage, people choose their marital partners based on their feelings or attraction for one another. In
America and Western Europe, marriages based on love, have dominated their cultures for a long time
and, as a result, when it comes to arranged marriages, most American s first reaction would be: Oh!
This kind of marriage is so relentless and incredible, because we have no voice. However, times are
changing, and so is the attitude toward marriage. America is a melting pot, which means it is a
multicultural society, and there are so many immigrants from other countries in America. Due to
international migration, both arranged marriages and love marriages have co existed in peace and
affected each other. Although some argue that arranged couples don t have a choice in choosing their
life partner, we can t deny the benefits of arranged marriages, as it can help them obtain full and
complete support from their families, better understand each other and provide a high possibility for a
successful and happy marriage.
First of all, an arranged marriage can help the bride and the groom gain the acceptance and support

Open Educational Resources ( Oer )
Introduction
Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for
teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South Africa experienced widespread load
shedding affecting the domestic and industrial electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by
Eskom, the South African power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such
production and raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major primary
energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to the unit price of
electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of Minerals and Energy, 2005).
Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of meeting the demands of
sustainable development and has been referred to as the best energy resource. In 2005 the Department
of Minerals and Energy published its Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives
spelt out in the 1998 White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy
efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015.
South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have contributed to the
country s current power shortage situation. Building a new power station takes a number of years, and
until one or more new power stations are operational, the people of South Africa need to conserve
energy resources and use them efficiently. Energy

Teenage Underage Drinking
In this day and age, underage drinking is very much rampant among teenagers ages 12 years old to 17
years old. It truly cannot be denied that teens of this generation are very much liberated and out there .
Because of these traits, the generation of teens is very much likely to indulge in alcohol drinking. This
is an issue that must be addressed for it possess a threat to the present generation and the generations
to come. An output of being liberated is the tendency for teenagers to frequently socialize with a

A teenager on his or her crucial stages of development, have not fully developed the skill of decision
making. Thus pressure one feels from peers and the persistent exposure to the act can cause the
individual to eventually indulge in underage drinking for social acceptance. The struggle to fit in is
always a constant issue amongst our teenagers in this generation. And underage drinking has been a
status qualifier that signifies a person s dominance and liberation. This is why most peers would
encourage themselves to engage in such habits. Apart from that, without proper guidance and
supervision from parents or guardians, teenagers most likely are at risk to engage in underage
drinking. Without the reinforcement, they will grow up to believe that such habit is a form of mere
socialization and not a fatal grip for their future. Guidance is truly relevant. Without it, one day you
may realize the effect of underage drinking is very much morbid or worse, irreversible. Lastly, a
negative family environment is truly a major factor that molds a teen s young mind into what is
socially acceptable and what is not. If alcohol drinking is freely displayed at home, then this kind of
notion is most likely hardwired on the teenagers subconscious mind causing him/her to be very much
okay with the set up. A negative family environment will most likely cause the individual to engage in
negative coping mechanisms: such as underage drinking. Based on the data the researchers have
collected and the survey conducted, the researchers conclude that social factors strongly influence the
alcoholic tendencies of selected Engineering students because of peer pressure, lack of guidance and

Essay On Over Criminalization
So what exactly is over criminalization? In technical terms it is the act of imposing unbalanced
penalties with no relation to the gravity of the offense committed or the culpability of the wrong doer.
In other words, the United states is excessively using and misusing the statutes of criminal law. This is
to include unnecessary criminal statutes such as those in the business realm. For example, transporting
orchids without proper paper work or failure to ship lobster tail in plastic bags. The most redundant
one is the failure to return a library book. Laws in today s society are here to protect us as a whole as
well as maintain order in this country. However, we have an innumerable amount of laws, mostly old
laws, that serve no purpose in this new world we live in. These laws are ones most of us have never

route starts and ends at UMKC, regarding one of their statues that was posted on Facebook. The
purpose of the march is to call out on the demands of the movement strike at the heart of the debt

Visual Impairment Nursing
Introduction Visual impairment is a common and debilitating symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS).
Acute optic neuritis (AON) occurs in over 50% of patients and subclinical optic nerve injury is
frequent even in the absence of optic neuritis (Arnold, 2005). Double vision and oscillopsia from
efferent disorders may also significantly impact vision related quality of life. Despite the prevalence of
visual deficits, it has only been over the last decade that MS clinical trials have begun to regularly
include visual outcomes [57]. This trend has been supported by the implementation of highly sensitive
tools with the ability to detect structural and functional visual deficits in patients with MS. Among

VEP amplitude is a measure of the number of actionable fibers relaying information to the visual

phone for a year to take photos and videos when I had recently decided to upgrade to the Canon T6i.
After using the camera for a couple of months now, I wanted to see the similarities and differences in
functionality that the iPhone 5s had compared to the Canon T6i.
A similarity that is consistent with the iPhone 5s and the Canon T6i is the user interface. The user will
interact with the devices by using its buttons and touch screens. The iPhone 5s and Canon T6i have
many similar buttons such as the on/off, home screen and volume buttons. The on/off button allows
the user to get their device started to take pictures. The home screen button redirects the user of an
iPhone to a screen with apps, while a user of the Canon T6i to a screen with many camera settings.
The iPhone 5s and the Canon T6i have touch screens. The touch screen adds comfort to the user. It is
also a familiar feeling to most technology users since the touch screen is very common in 2016.
A second similarity between the two devices is their camera functions. The basic camera functions that
are available to the Canon T6i and iPhone 5s includes the zoom in/out, flash, single/continuous shots
and self timer. This

Benefits Of Latex Gloves And Latex Masks And Allergy Among...
WHO (Who.int, 2016) and NICE guidelines (Nice.org.uk, 2016) both provide guidance and rationale
as to why it is important to perform hand hygiene as well as using gloves as they do not provide
complete protection against hand contamination. I was pleased that I had demonstrated good
technique in the gloves, apron and safe disposal of waste part of the OSCE. However, I had not
considered the sensitivity of the patient or healthcare worker when explaining the procedure. I have
since researched the effect of latex gloves and latex sensitization and allergy among healthcare
workers. Phaswana and Naidoo (2013) conducted a cross sectional study to examine latex
sensitization (LS) and latex allergy (LA) prevalence among healthcare workers using hypoallergenic
latex gloves. Symptoms of LS include skin rash, itchy skin, runny nose, and red or itchy eyes. They
found that exposure to latex was significantly associated with LA and working as an enrolled nurse
was significantly associated with both LS and LA. Interestingly, the duration of employment was
found to be inversely associated with LA and the exclusive use of powder free latex gloves was
significantly associated with LS and LA. The authors considered that the explanation for this finding
could be related to the healthy worker effect where workers who had developed LA may have left
their employment or changed their career path to a role with no contact with latex gloves, and senior
health care workers that may have been

The Identification Of Good And Evil
The Identification of Good and Evil
A warped piece of wood must wait until it has been laid against the straightening board, steamed, and
forced into shape before it can become straight; a piece of blunt metal must wait until it has been
whetted on a grindstone before it can become sharp. In this quote, Hsun Tzu, who was a philosopher
(300 BCE), explains that the nature of humanity is evil. Therefore, there must be directions that
indicate our way to good. Throughout the life of a human being, factors contribute to build
personalities, while also creating labels in the social environment. Most of the time, humans reflect
characteristics of those individuals surrounding them. Either those characteristics are good or evil,
they construct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to know who is good and bad and therefore who we want to avoid and who we can tolerate.
This means that the interaction with some other individuals is needed to create a personality, and
therefore, determine if a human is good or evil. But how is it possible to label an individual as good or
evil , due to the others this person interacts with? Considering that people interacts with others due to
personal interests for the other individual, there is a correlation as they share a point of view. For
example, if the surroundings of an individual are constructed by insecurity, negativity and vandalism,
it will create a similar point of view that will lead to the evil. And on the other hand, if the surrounding
of an individual is positive, it will create a way to good. Factors such as speaking, thinking, and
communicating attribute to the personality of an individual define if we are good or evil, but also
ignorance or illiteracy tend to mislead people.
Another factor that is essential while people talk about human beings born good or evil is the illiteracy
and ignorance that people tend to have. There are abounding communities that live in poverty, and as a
matter of fact, these communities are more feasible to have crimes regularly. Not only there are more
crimes committed, but also several adults live in an illiterate state. This affects the communities, since
the illiterate adults have little to no interest in education for their children. In

The Vietnam War Was A Long And Costly Conflict
Causes if the Vietnam War
Before WWII Vietnam belonged to the French Empire but during the war, it was taken over by the
Japanese but since they were being defeated they retreated back to Japan. This gave the chance to the
Vietnamese people to create their own government led by Ho Chi Minh but at the end of the war, the
south was given back to the french while the north was led by the Chinese, who was not communist at
the time, so Ho Chi Minh lost all his power. When the Chinese pulled out in 1946 the Ho Chi Minh
party took over The Viet Minh and by October the French stated their intention of reuniting back with
north but it would all be under the french rule so the Viet Minh prepared to fight back. War started in

was fighting to unify Vietnam but the US intervened and helped the communist takeover. This was
part of a larger plan from the US to eliminate communism.
Major Significant Events:
The Spring Offensive
The 1975 Spring Offensive was a series of large offensive operations to force south Vietnam and it s
rallied back and eventually defeat the armed forces.and force the government to surrender. After initial
success, North Vietnam increased its attack and continued to push forward. This was also the initial
idea of the Easter offensive in 1972 but it failed due to strong US forces but due to decreases in
American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful.
Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large
numbers of casualties. South Vietnam s immediate action was to regroup its forces and decrease the
area that its troops had to defend, thereby surrendering space for time. However, due to a

Contributions Of The Founding Fathers
All of the founding fathers of the United States were great because they acted on their values and
beliefs, helping to sow the seeds of a new nation. The work of the founding fathers became
instrumental for independence from the British Crown. Being willing to stand up to Britain was no
small feat, making the deeds of the founding fathers even more admirable. The founding fathers will
be celebrated throughout history for their contribution not just to America but to the world. Although
many men and women can be considered instrumental to founding the nation, there are seven key
players that most historians identify as being the founding fathers. Those seven include George
Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe,
and Ben Franklin. All seven of the founding fathers and their contributions are important. Therefore, it
can be helpful to compare and contrast three of them such as Washington, Hamilton, and Franklin to
better appreciate the ways their diverse talents, skills, and philosophies helped to create a nation
conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal.
Not all the founding fathers became presidents, but all were leaders in their own ways by capitalizing
on their strengths and areas of specialization. Two of the founding fathers that were not presidents but
who were nevertheless instrumental to creating the United States were Benjamin Franklin and
Alexander Hamilton. Benjamin

The Pentadic Analysis Of Kenneth Burke s My Girl
The world is thriving in a miscellaneous collection of well known types of media that allow people to
indulge in new societies, sophistications, and stories they have never known before. Correspondingly,
there is an assortment of ways to analyze this media to further understand the reason behind having
meaning in literature in addition to the recipients responses to these specific meanings. In particular,
one method used to examine media, as well as its ongoing objective in both classic and contemporary
society, is Kenneth Burke s dramatic pentad. In response to evaluating narratives from divergent
perspectives, the pentadic analysis is composed of five parts: agent, scene, act, agency, and purpose.
For instance, by applying this analyzation technique to the 1991 Howard Zieff film My Girl it can be
illustrated through which means these five elements create value in a fictional composition.
Specifically, My Girl is primarily an agent based film focusing on Vada s Sultenfuss exploration of life
through the means of death. However, Vada s circumstances of her mother s passing during childbirth
and father s house run funeral parlour creates a narrative focused on purpose by being the initial
reason Vada has an obsession with demise and disease. To further elaborate, the film follows 11 year
old hypochondriac Vada Sultenfuss through her summer of 1972. From the beginning, it is
demonstrated that although Vada clearly has an infatuation with death she does not truly understand it.
In fact, Vada reads the report of each dead body her father brings home to prepare for viewing and
then reports herself to the doctor claiming she has the same disease that killed them. Under those
circumstances, Vada has also lived her whole life believing that she killed her own mother. Her father,
a maladroit widower named Harry, cannot seem to connect with his daughter so, in response, he
ignores her as he journeys through his new adventures with dating. In the midst of her father s new
engagement to Shelley, her admiration of an unavailable teacher, and her believe she is a killer who is
dying of a new disease every week, her best friend Thomas dies from an allergic reaction. Vada is left
to manage her own grief and pain as she

Theme Of Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. In the The Rape of the Lock there is an
invocation to Muses, intention of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, and journey on water,
underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a
simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand action of a low subject produces
comical laughter and makes the story more absurd. Instead of magnificent passions and great fights
between heroes in which the immortals take part, we see the theme of The Rape of the Lock as a
minor passionate quarrel assisted by the spirits of the air. The ... Show more content on

In the poem Rape of the Lock, Pope has introduced the episodes of the game of Omber which suggests
the powerful battle and the cards involve the soldiers described in great detail. There is also the battle
between lords and ladies just like the battle in epic poem. But in mock epic this battle is fought with
fans and snuff instead of with swords and spears. There are single fight between Belinda and Baron
and between Clarissa and Sir Plume. Another very important element of an epic is the active
participation of supernatural machinery like god and goddesses. In The Rape of the Lock, there are
sylphs and gnomes. These aerial spirits are small and unimportant things and are therefore, exactly in
keeping with the triviality of the theme. These aerial spirits guards the person of the heroine that is
Belinda and when there is fight between the flowers of Belinda and those of the Baron, they take part
in the fight like god and goddesses in war. Pope described the protecting sylph under Ariel. In that the
sylphs are the lampoon of epic deities. A long dangerous journey on water is a must in an epic. Here in
the poem The Rape of the Lock , Belinda takes a relaxed journey on water without any stress and
danger. She travels up the Thames in a boat to join Hampton Court to play the game of card Omber

California Kid Ethos Pathos Logos
Alternative artist and songwriter,Rivers Cuomo of the band Weezer, in his song California Kids claims
that by letting go of all of people s high standards and just living a worry free life, then people s
problems will come to an end. He develops his argument by first drawing illustrations between a life
that is stressful and one that is more relaxed, then he uses juxtaposition to emphasize the California
lifestyle, and finally, he uses pathos to appeal to people on an emotional level. Cuomo s purpose is to
convince his audience to join him in shedding the persona and responsibilities of adulthood so that

snow and having to wear many layers of clothing because it is really cold, but the singers purpose of

amazing alternative. In other words why be cold and miserable when you can be warm and happy,
with your toes in the sand even in the winter. This is a metaphor for why live a stressful life when you

was baptized, this can be symbolic for rebirth, something that the singer probably wants. The audience
knows this because of the conveniently placed objects throughout the

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Essay
The extreme sports world is very unique, with a wide variety of sports to choose from and risks that

these extreme athletes participate in these sports. There s a lot more to the extreme sports world than
just the adrenaline junkies and risk takers, believe it or not there is a lot more serenity in the sports
than thought to be. Extreme athletes are not all about the adrenaline rush, there is something much
deeper than that, it is where they find their peace. The variety of these exciting sports go anywhere

inaugural address, the new president s voice rang out: This great nation will endure as it has endured,
will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to

agriculture and industry; and the frailty of the international economy in the late 1920s and the early

Health And Sustainability Of Marine Ecosystem Degradation
Goal 14 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seeks to conserve and sustainably use the
oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Targets 14.1, 14.2, 14.3, 14.4, 14.5
and 14.a, aim to improve the health and sustainability of marine ecosystems by a specified date, and
avoid adverse impacts to the environment by addressing specific kinds of marine pollution. These are
measurable in so far that it is scientifically possible to quantify nutrient pollution, ocean acidity,
marine debris, biodiversity etc., across space and time, as well as the impacts of such indicators on
other areas of the environment. In principle the lack of analysis of certain aspects of marine ecosystem
degradation makes it somewhat difficult to identify causal mechanisms in changes to the environment.
Targets to improve scientific cooperation and knowledge relating to marine ecosystems, 14.3, 14.5 and
14.a, can be measured in relation to increased international and cross sector cooperation and improved
research outcomes. Observable sustainable socio economic development of SIDs and LDCs can be
used to measure the achievement of targets 14.7, 14.a and 14.b. Improvements to the regulation of
destructive fishing practises, enforcement of international law and reduction of perverse subsidies
(14.4, 14.6 and 14.c) can only be partially measured given the size of the ocean and that much illegal
activity goes undetected. It is also important to note that an assessment of these

The chromosomes can also be analyzed and they can find the missing or misplaced chromosome. In
this case they would find that the fifth chromosome is missing. They can also do a more detailed test
called the FISH test. FISH stands for Fluorescent in Situ Hybridization, it can detect the deletion.
Who has this disorder: A commonly asked question for all genetic disorders is Who get s it ? The
answer is simple. Anyone can be born with 5p syndrome. 5p syndrome is not more prominent in any
group of people. Since it is a random event that happens in the fetal development it can happen in all
cultures, genders, and ethnicities. It happens in every 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns and isn t very
common.

It Is Widely Known That Slavery Is A Brutal, Cruel, And
It is widely known that slavery is a brutal, cruel, and inhumane regime that had been wide spread

kidnapped or passively born to be slaves were not only required to perform endless labor, but also
tortured, suppressed and bestially destroyed in numerous heartless ways physically and mentally.

by Douglass in his narrative that a woman slave was killed brutally by her mistress because she just

working every night and rarely had a nap. A trivial mistake shockingly cost her life to pay for the baby

needed to keep worrying about what to eat and when to take a break, but also needed to never stop
thinking about how they should behave like an infallible machine in order to escape from their masters
s bloody cowskins. In a word, slaves were deprived of the right to work hard to earn a living, and
became the livestocks which were forced by human to do whatever they needed them to do, which
also meant they could be tortured or killed just for the same reason why an animal could be killed.

Emerging Markets And Developing Economies
Over the years the global economy has seen a rise in so called emerging markets . These are
developing economies which have exceeded economic performance in respect to their developing
counterparts. These economies are newly industrialized and are on their way to becoming developed
economies but have not yet reached that status. The more common and likely heard developing
economies consists of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) followed by Mexico, South Korea,
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Developed nations (MEDC) include the westernised countries
such as the U.S, the U.K and Japan. In 1999, Dr. Kvint published this definition: Emerging market
country is a society transitioning from a dictatorship to a free market oriented economy, with
increasing economic freedom, gradual integration with the Global Marketplace and with other
members of the GEM (Global Emerging Market), an expanding middle class, improving standards of
living, social stability and tolerance, as well as an increase in cooperation with multilateral institutions
This essay will locate the common characteristics that emerging markets share.
The first characteristic is that they share a below average income per capita. This means that the
average person earns less in comparison to rest of the world. It can also be compared to cities, towns
or a given population but for this case the total population will be looked at to give a national average.

Essay on How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
When watching the film, Star Wars, it is impossible not to be aware of the technology that is
represented in the film, partly because it is so much more advanced than our own is now, but also
because we can imagine how we might someday acquire such technology. The central theme in Star
Wars is good versus evil, clearly demonstrated by the technology in the film. While the Rebels (the
good guys) use technology primarily to fight for freedom and quality of life for all, the Empire (the

However, even if we don t look into the future, Star Wars can tell us volumes about how technology
can affect our society, especially as it pertains to war.
Through the ages there have been constant struggles to resolve disputes. However, as we can see
through our history, sometimes peaceful resolutions are not possible because of misunderstandings,
corruption, power, or greed. In these cases, one alternative to settling the dispute is war. Technology
plays an extremely important role in war, and this is clearly demonstrated in Star Wars. Star Wars
possesses similarities to our own culture and with the vast amounts of technology represented in the
film, it is an ideal choice to better understand our own society.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to examine Star Wars because we feel intimately connected
to the film and all that it represents. We grew up with R2D2, C3PO, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia,
Han Solo, and Chewbacca. We dressed up like them for Halloween, we played Star Wars games for
countless hours, we imagined ourselves using their futuristic technology, and now we want to study
how this artifact has affected our society and how it might affect our future.
Research Question:
In the movie, Star Wars, how is technology represented differently in its ability to help humankind
and/or destroy it?

The Golden Girls Analysis
Kids in elementary school are often given assignments of self exploration and discovery. For example,
teachers give students questionnaires at the beginning of the school year asking for their favorite color,
book, song, movie, television show, etc. I find these questionnaires difficult, as my favorite book or
song is consistently changing; however, one category remains the same. My favorite television show,
since first watching in 2001, is The Golden Girls. It may seem unexpected that a six year old finds a
show about four older women living in Miami, Florida during the mid 1980s interesting, but I did. I
love each character: Blanche, man crazed woman with good intentions, Rose, a lovable and ditzy
character, Dorothy, a sarcastic intellectual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the episode, Scared Straight, Sophia, Dorothy s mother, believes that she is preparing to pass
away. In the beginning of the episode, Sophia is laying on the couch sighing in hopes that Dorothy
asks her what is wrong. Eventually, Dorothy asks and Sophia responds, I ve got three days to live (The
Golden Girls). This prompts Dorothy to respond: Fine Ma, I ll scratch ben gay off the grocery list (The
Golden Girls). This interaction highlights the more aware people become of their own morality as they
age. During youth, many people do not discuss the possibility of death; however, as we become older
life becomes more finite and fleeting. This issue reinforces The Golden Girls ability to take serious
and taboo topics such as death and turn it into a comedic exchange between mother and daughter
Furthermore, The Golden Girls also analyze escaping facilities of the elderly and display it in a
comedic fashion. Before Sophia states she is dying, she dreams that her dead husband comes to her,
wearing his fedora, stating that she can come now and there is room. However, this turns out to be a
misunderstanding when Sophia s friend Mildred comes to the door. Sophia asks, Mildred, what are
you doing here? to which Mildred responds: When do I always where my lucky bowling hate? (The
Golden Girls). Mildred s

The Effect Of Biofuels On The Environment Essay
Introduction Yeast fermentation is a process that produces carbon dioxide and ethanol from the
mixture of yeast, sugar, and water. It is a process of anaerobic respiration since yeast does not need
oxygen to create energy. It is a widely used experiment performed to measure the amount of carbon
dioxide produced from different yeast and sugar mixtures (Grammer, 2012). Biofuels are fuels that are
heated to a specific temperature to create energy. For example, if you heat up oxygen, the product will
be energy, carbon dioxide, and water. Biofuels are important because they will be used in place of
fossil fuels to cause less pollution to the environment (Kim K, Choi I, Kim H, Wi S, Bae H, 2014).
The use of biofuels will increase over the next few years because they are much safer than fossil fuels
(Kim K, Choi I, Kim H, Wi S, Bae H, 2014). There are various ways that this experiment can be
performed. In one study, the use of inverted pipettes, test tubes, capillary tubes, and graduated
cylinders were used to make the process quicker and simpler (Grammer, 2012). The scientists decided
to perform this experiment this way to focus more time on more important issues. Because the
procedure was shorter, it allowed for more replications to be completed. Also, it gave more accuracy
and precision because of the various instruments used (Grammer, 2012). The experiment performed in
lab was also a simple procedure and allowed for six different replicates, one from each lab table.

Nike And Sweatshop Practices During Asian Pacific Region
Nike and Sweatshop Practices in Asian Pacific Region The introduction and growth of globalization in
the developing world coupled with the rise of Multi National Corporations have produced an
onslaught on factory workers who are forced to work in sweatshops for little or no pay. A business
dictionary defines globalization as the worldwide movement towards economic, financial, trade and
communications integration. Globalization points towards the opening of local and nationalistic
perspectives to a broader outlook of a unified and independent world with free transfer of capital
goods and services across national borders. The transfer of these goods and services is done by Multi
National Corporations (MNCs). MNCs continue to move their factories overseas to evade the strict
regulatory guidelines that embody employees rights and privileges. Moreover, developing countries
provide access to a vast pool of cheap labor. Utilizing cheap labor in less developed countries enables
MNCs to continue to meet the demands of consumers in the developed countries as well as their
bottom line. To gain competitive advantage in the market and increase profits, MNCs conduct
business around the world utilizing the availability of cheap labor. Even though government has a part
to play in protecting the human and environmental resources within host countries the question is
should MNCs be allowed to abuse, exploit and violate the rights of these workers? Throughout the
1990s, Nike was

Teens Misunderstanding of the Dangers of Cosmetic Surgery
Introdcution
Surgery is dangerous! It s causes a lot of deaths, people pop the implants, add a few things to the
surgery that was already done and even sometimes want to do the surgery themselves. People do not
really think when it comes to cosmetic surgery they just go with what sounds better on their mind. It s
most likely a really dangerous thing to do and shouldn t be done on your body.
Body Image
Teens do not understand how dangerous cosmetic surgery can really be. Before, during and after the
surgeries, many of the surgeons talk about the accidents that have happened. All surgeons agree that
cosmetic surgery, is a real risk and can be a danger to the patient. Not alot of people actually
recommend this. A girls breast implants popped, causing the saline to spill into the body, the teen was
horrified and highly recommends not getting any procedures. Teens view plastic surgery as a way to
fit in and look acceptable to friends and peers. Adults, on the other hand, frequently see plastic surgery
as a way to stand out from the crowd.(ASPS) . To paraphrase the quote, teens just want to fit in, but
adults do not agree, they just want to stand out. That shows that most teens don t realize the danger of
surgery they are more focused on the way they look because of their self esteem.
Self Esteem
Teens use cosmetic surgery to help with their self esteem. Most think that by getting surgery done,
they appear perfect towards others. Teens, just want to fit it in so

Essay on Canadian History
In Canadian history it is quite evident we are influenced heavily by the much stronger nations around
us. Therefore our own content in Canada is sometimes overshadowed by other cultures, specifically
with regards to the United States who have a big influence on our cultural industries. Pierre Trudeau
expressed the feeling Canadians have with this co existence, Living next to you is in some ways like
sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly or temperate the beast, one is affected by every
twitch and grunt. Some may argue that Canada should not continue to develop regulations to protect
its cultural industries. However, I will argue that Canada should continue to develop some regulations
to protect its cultural industries. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Continentalism is a major contributing factor because it can be very threatening for the less powerful
country. Continentalism refers to the presence of a global power (e.g., United States) at one s border
must be considered a fact of special importance (Hiller 61). This is to say that the more powerful
country has influence over the less powerful country. This concept is relevant to my argument about
protecting Canada s cultural industries because there has been an increasing level in American and
foreign cultural penetration in Canada. Sharing a large border and more importantly a common
language with the United States means Canada is in a very difficult position in regard to American
culture, with direct attempts at the Canadian market or the general diffusion of American culture in the
globalized media arena. Thus the people of Canada are influenced heavily by American culture and
are surrounded more by their culture. The Canadian government should regulate cultural industries so
we do not lose interest in our own content. Most of our culture in Canada is from foreign sources:
More than 80% of English language magazines available in Canada are imported. 88% of new record
releases are foreign content. Foreign films take about 95% of the screen time in our movie theatres.
Foreign content makes up 61%

Kristallnacht During The Holocaust
During World War II, a cruel event called the Holocaust was in effect. The Holocaust was a genocide
of all people deemed inferior by Hitler and the Nazis, mainly the Jews. During the Holocaust, many
different acts of terror took place. This included the pogrom of The Night of Broken Glass, or
Kristallnacht, which actually means Night of Crystal. Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused
great damage and distress among the Jewish community in the late 1930s. Kristallnacht was a violent
protest that caused great damage to Jewish owned buildings and businesses. It was on November 9,
1938 that it began and though the Nazis despised Jews, they claimed that there was more to the
pogrom and why it happened. The pretext for the pogroms was the shooting in Paris on November 7
of the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a Polish Jewish student, Herschel Grynszpan. (Berenbaum
1) This means that the main excuse for Kristallnacht was the shooting of a German Official by a Jew.
This shooting had angered the Nazis and led to the pogrom. In its aftermath, German officials
announced that Kristallnacht had erupted as a spontaneous outburst of public sentiment in response to
the assassination of Ernst vom Rath. ( Kristallnacht. 1) After the event, German officials told the
public that Kristallnacht happened suddenly due to the assassination of one of their own, and they
were not entirely responsible for it. The Germans were actually blaming the Jews for the destruction
of their

The Causes Of The Salem Witchcraft Trials Of 1692
Neil Armstrong once said Mystery creates wonder, and wonder is the basis of man s desire to
understand. The witchcraft trials of 1692 are still certainly shrouded by boundless amounts of mystery.
For decades, the exact reasons for which the many citizens of Salem Massachusetts were accused of
witchcraft remain unclear. Furthermore, the strange events and symptoms that the people documented
in salem during the time of the witchcraft trials also remain somewhat inexplicable. During this
relatively brief span of time, more than 200 people were accused of witchcraft, and 20 were executed.
The people of Salem were puritans, a religious group that splintered off of the catholic church
following Martin Luther s post of the 95 theses. The people of the town would claim that those
accused were bewitched and under the influence of an Evil Hand . Of the many accused, 19 were
women, all of which were hanged. The twentieth was the husband of one of the convicted witches.
Instead of being hanged, the man was gruesomely pressed to death by heavy weights placed on top of
him. Accusing others of witchery became a way to enforce male superiority, as well as a tactic used to
settle feuds between citizens. While the question may never be answered in complete certainty, the
most plausible causes of the witchcraft trials in salem may still be found. Sexism and religion were
among the main reasons for the witchcraft hysteria, the explanation as to what the cause of the strange
symptoms

  • 2. Detroit Urban redevelopment Essay DETROIT, known as the Automotive Capital of the World, is the largest city in the state of Michigan. The city sits at the heart of an official three county metropolitan region comprising Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. As we look at the current condition of Detroit Michigan, you would ponder what made the city look so ran down and why did everyone abandoned a once known as a beautiful city. If one were to look at older pictures of the city back in its earlier years they wouldn t be able to tell that the city used to have life with in it. Detroit was founded on 24 July 1701, by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, a French military officer and explorer, as a base to block British expansion. The permanent outpost system did not prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was then that the city started to regain its vivacity. Then others decided they too could build cars, thus giving the city the nick name of the motor city . If one were to look at the current conditions of Detroit compared to the way it was a hundred years ago one may question how could a city be so full of decay and emptiness. Before one could answer that question they have to really look deep within the history of Detroit and the reasoning for so many buildings. When Henry Ford decided to make the horseless carriage it became an evolution which spun into the first automobile the model T. As ford was the originator and the first to offer five dollars per day. It wasn t long afterwards that other manufacturers like General Motors came along. As mentioned on Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, one of the largest buildings built for the automotive era was the Packard Plant which closed its doors in 1956 at one time employed 33,000. It is now one of the 80,000 abandoned buildings in Detroit. The factory is over a mile long and has one of the best views of the city (Bourdain). Charles La Duff a guest on the television show a long time resident clearly points out that Detroit was built on wealth from the whites, as they moved to the suburbs so did their money. The middle class blacks moved in and made it their own until it became too rough for them to survive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player, who asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the audience. The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time where they failed in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers Jordan s proposed question with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this essay, I will argue that Gatorade s The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using rhetorical components and focusing on defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but this commercial does a great job of reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement targets athletes of the older generation, along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two retired players, Peyton Manning and Michael Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their careers, Eli Manning and Serena Williams, and three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns. The different ages in the commercial are extremely effective because athletes that would be interested in Gatorade s products vary in age, and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. Also, the inclusion of Serena Williams can appeal to the female athletes that view the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Entrepreneurship Is An Integral Part Of Our Economy Introduction: Entrepreneurship can best be defined as a way of managing that involves pursuing opportunity, assembling resources, implementing action plans, and harvesting rewards in a timely and flexible way (Shalman Stevenson). Those who find passion and purpose in the management, and conceptual thinking of entrepreneurship are known as entrepreneurs. This type of management involving entrepreneurs has become an integral part of our economy in the United States, and globally since the beginning of the modern era, impacting billions of people in its wake through many different social and political facets. As entrepreneurs set out on these ventures in growing small businesses that have changed so much about the world, there are always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This then, would suggest that the success of the business or venture started from the root, which is, of course, the entrepreneur who has been successful. Entrepreneurs start as managers who must make the leap from comfortableness to taking major risks with a potential for growth and success, but also downfall and failure. Although there are many different types of personalities that an entrepreneur can possess there are two main elements of thinking that a manager must have to be an entrepreneur. These are that the manager must have a self perceived power and ability to realize goals internally, and also have an external desire to find a future state that is characterized by growth and change (Shalman Stevenson.) These are two foundational characteristics that an entrepreneur must have, but having these two does not correlate to success simply on their own. Why History Matters: In order to understand the impacts of entrepreneurial businesses globally, the history itself and historical concepts behind it must also be understood. After all, most of the concepts used by entrepreneurs and professional management today have been influenced by previous experiences and historical perspectives. As an example of this, modern entrepreneurs often ask investors for startup capital, and this has always been this way. Compared to Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious character.(Linda Nochlin, Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism are usually marginal characters in the society. Dance Salsa Research Paper Dance has always been a part of my life, whether it was from the first day my mom taught me salsa in the family room to now performing in front of huge crowds around my community. Whether its ballroom, west coast, or country, I have been able to express myself in ways that I never thought possible. Through my commitment and perseverance I strive to become a better and more knowledgeable dancer every day. I continue to learn new things and search for opportunities to widen my horizons and interact with the dance community. My passion grows with me as I grow as a dancer and I hope to be able to share that passion with others for the rest of my life. I started dance at the age of 8, well officially that is. Long before then however I had begun to learn from my mom. We would spend our Sunday s cleaning the house listening to latin music and she would teach me how to dance salsa. That was how I first discovered what it was to dance. I kept learning and having fun with her every week until a talent show at my school offered me an opportunity to showcase (what I thought at the time) was a vast amount of knowledge. So I told my mother about it, but she thought that our days spent learning salsa were just harmless fun with no big aims such as the one I had presented her with. So she said no. And ... For instance, the earliest Greek writing style which was called Linear B was influenced by the Minoan writing style called Linear A. Furthermore, the Greeks not only adopted the Minoans writing style but they also used the ship building and agricultural techniques used by the Egyptians and the Phoenicians. Despite their similarities, the Greeks had their characteristics that distinguished them from the rest. The Greeks were never unified but they did create one of the world s most remarkable cultural eras. The most important city states of Ancient Greece was Sparta and Athens. Both of these city states shared similar characteristics such as both would remain the foundation for the Greek political world. Both Athens and Sparta had a similar government system. We are surrounded by plentitudes. food is freely available in the West. Information is taken for granted, and we often dont want for nothing. Yet there are signs and many reasons to suggest that we are far from happy despite this new age of overabundance and the freedom it affords us. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Environmental Sustainability The current global population of 7.6 billion people is expected to reach 11.2 billion in 2100 (UN DESA), and as the Earth s population continues to grow exponentially, the topic of environmental sustainability is being debated with increased urgency. In the past few years, many large scale environmental issues have emerged due to human activities: climate change, air and water pollution, rising sea levels, habitat loss, species extinction, and worsening natural disasters are all becoming more and more prevalent. But perhaps our most immediate concern should be whether or not we will be able to continue feeding this ever increasing population. While all of us relatively understand how driving cars, leaving the lights on, or using too much water can affect the environment, there is one massive human activity that is frequently overlooked eating. From growing, to processing, to distributing, and finally consuming, our agricultural system uses an immense portion of our planet s limited resources and emits large amounts of greenhouse gases that have drastic effects on the environment. Because of this, it is imperative to understand the environmental impacts of the type of foods that we choose to include in our diets. While much of today s population is heavily reliant on animal products, it is evident that a meat based diet is not environmentally sustainable; on the other hand, a plant based diet is much more environmentally friendly in terms of the amount of grain, water, and ... Regardless of whether it is a civilized society or a savage society, every culture has laws and there are among the many norms of conduct in savage societies regarded as compulsory obligations of one individual or group towards another individual or group (Malinowski, 1985, 12). Laws are essential in every culture regardless of whether savage or civilized (Malinowski, 1985, 13). Malinowski believed that all societies had laws, rules, and customs that are followed; in addition to hard laws, there are also social morals and obligations that are followed. It may be culture specific, but it exists in all cultures. Malinowski argued that there is a number of laws, taboos and obligations in every human culture which weigh heavily on every citizen, demand great self sacrifice, and are obeyed for moral, sentimental or matter of fact reasons, but without any spontaneity (Malinowski, 1985, 13 14). While there are laws written down to be followed, there are also moral laws that should not be broken; within every society, civilized or not, some do break laws; as a result, there are punishments that come after, some harsher than others. • 16. Arranged Marriages And Love Marriages Wufeng Yuan Patricia France English 1A 5 May 2015 Arranged Marriage: In the broadest sense, marriages have been divided into two general categories; arranged marriages and love marriages. As the name implies, an arranged marriage is defined as a marriage where the bride and groom are exclusively selected by a third party (usually their parents), while in a love marriage, people choose their marital partners based on their feelings or attraction for one another. In America and Western Europe, marriages based on love, have dominated their cultures for a long time and, as a result, when it comes to arranged marriages, most American s first reaction would be: Oh! This kind of marriage is so relentless and incredible, because we have no voice. However, times are changing, and so is the attitude toward marriage. America is a melting pot, which means it is a multicultural society, and there are so many immigrants from other countries in America. Due to international migration, both arranged marriages and love marriages have co existed in peace and affected each other. Although some argue that arranged couples don t have a choice in choosing their life partner, we can t deny the benefits of arranged marriages, as it can help them obtain full and complete support from their families, better understand each other and provide a high possibility for a successful and happy marriage. Open Educational Resources ( Oer ) Introduction Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South Africa experienced widespread load shedding affecting the domestic and industrial electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by Eskom, the South African power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such production and raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major primary energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to the unit price of electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of Minerals and Energy, 2005). Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of meeting the demands of sustainable development and has been referred to as the best energy resource. In 2005 the Department of Minerals and Energy published its Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives spelt out in the 1998 White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015. South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have contributed to the country s current power shortage situation. After initial success, North Vietnam increased its attack and continued to push forward. This was also the initial idea of the Easter offensive in 1972 but it failed due to strong US forces but due to decreases in American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful. Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large numbers of casualties. • 27. Contributions Of The Founding Fathers All of the founding fathers of the United States were great because they acted on their values and beliefs, helping to sow the seeds of a new nation. The work of the founding fathers became instrumental for independence from the British Crown. Being willing to stand up to Britain was no small feat, making the deeds of the founding fathers even more admirable. The founding fathers will be celebrated throughout history for their contribution not just to America but to the world. Although many men and women can be considered instrumental to founding the nation, there are seven key players that most historians identify as being the founding fathers. Those seven include George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, and Ben Franklin. All seven of the founding fathers and their contributions are important. Therefore, it can be helpful to compare and contrast three of them such as Washington, Hamilton, and Franklin to better appreciate the ways their diverse talents, skills, and philosophies helped to create a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all people are created equal. Not all the founding fathers became presidents, but all were leaders in their own ways by capitalizing on their strengths and areas of specialization. Two of the founding fathers that were not presidents but who were nevertheless instrumental to creating the United States were Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton. Benjamin ... • 28. The Pentadic Analysis Of Kenneth Burke s My Girl The world is thriving in a miscellaneous collection of well known types of media that allow people to indulge in new societies, sophistications, and stories they have never known before. Correspondingly, there is an assortment of ways to analyze this media to further understand the reason behind having meaning in literature in addition to the recipients responses to these specific meanings. In particular, one method used to examine media, as well as its ongoing objective in both classic and contemporary society, is Kenneth Burke s dramatic pentad. In response to evaluating narratives from divergent perspectives, the pentadic analysis is composed of five parts: agent, scene, act, agency, and purpose. For instance, by applying this analyzation technique to the 1991 Howard Zieff film My Girl it can be illustrated through which means these five elements create value in a fictional composition. Specifically, My Girl is primarily an agent based film focusing on Vada s Sultenfuss exploration of life through the means of death. However, Vada s circumstances of her mother s passing during childbirth and father s house run funeral parlour creates a narrative focused on purpose by being the initial reason Vada has an obsession with demise and disease. To further elaborate, the film follows 11 year old hypochondriac Vada Sultenfuss through her summer of 1972. From the beginning, it is demonstrated that although Vada clearly has an infatuation with death she does not truly understand it. In fact, Vada reads the report of each dead body her father brings home to prepare for viewing and then reports herself to the doctor claiming she has the same disease that killed them. Under those circumstances, Vada has also lived her whole life believing that she killed her own mother. Her father, a maladroit widower named Harry, cannot seem to connect with his daughter so, in response, he ignores her as he journeys through his new adventures with dating. In the midst of her father s new engagement to Shelley, her admiration of an unavailable teacher, and her believe she is a killer who is dying of a new disease every week, her best friend Thomas dies from an allergic reaction. In the The Rape of the Lock there is an invocation to Muses, intention of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, and journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. There are single fight between Belinda and Baron and between Clarissa and Sir Plume. Another very important element of an epic is the active participation of supernatural machinery like god and goddesses. In The Rape of the Lock, there are sylphs and gnomes. These aerial spirits are small and unimportant things and are therefore, exactly in keeping with the triviality of the theme. These aerial spirits guards the person of the heroine that is Belinda and when there is fight between the flowers of Belinda and those of the Baron, they take part in the fight like god and goddesses in war. Pope described the protecting sylph under Ariel. In that the sylphs are the lampoon of epic deities. A long dangerous journey on water is a must in an epic. • 33. Health And Sustainability Of Marine Ecosystem Degradation Goal 14 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seeks to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. Targets 14.1, 14.2, 14.3, 14.4, 14.5 and 14.a, aim to improve the health and sustainability of marine ecosystems by a specified date, and avoid adverse impacts to the environment by addressing specific kinds of marine pollution. These are measurable in so far that it is scientifically possible to quantify nutrient pollution, ocean acidity, marine debris, biodiversity etc., across space and time, as well as the impacts of such indicators on other areas of the environment. In principle the lack of analysis of certain aspects of marine ecosystem degradation makes it somewhat difficult to identify causal mechanisms in changes to the environment. Targets to improve scientific cooperation and knowledge relating to marine ecosystems, 14.3, 14.5 and 14.a, can be measured in relation to increased international and cross sector cooperation and improved research outcomes. Observable sustainable socio economic development of SIDs and LDCs can be used to measure the achievement of targets 14.7, 14.a and 14.b. Improvements to the regulation of destructive fishing practises, enforcement of international law and reduction of perverse subsidies (14.4, 14.6 and 14.c) can only be partially measured given the size of the ocean and that much illegal activity goes undetected. It is a process of anaerobic respiration since yeast does not need oxygen to create energy. It is a widely used experiment performed to measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced from different yeast and sugar mixtures (Grammer, 2012). Biofuels are fuels that are heated to a specific temperature to create energy. For example, if you heat up oxygen, the product will be energy, carbon dioxide, and water. Biofuels are important because they will be used in place of fossil fuels to cause less pollution to the environment (Kim K, Choi I, Kim H, Wi S, Bae H, 2014). The use of biofuels will increase over the next few years because they are much safer than fossil fuels (Kim K, Choi I, Kim H, Wi S, Bae H, 2014). This is to say that the more powerful country has influence over the less powerful country. This concept is relevant to my argument about protecting Canada s cultural industries because there has been an increasing level in American and foreign cultural penetration in Canada. Sharing a large border and more importantly a common language with the United States means Canada is in a very difficult position in regard to American culture, with direct attempts at the Canadian market or the general diffusion of American culture in the globalized media arena. Thus the people of Canada are influenced heavily by American culture and are surrounded more by their culture. The Canadian government should regulate cultural industries so we do not lose interest in our own content. Most of our culture in Canada is from foreign sources: More than 80% of English language magazines available in Canada are imported. 88% of new record releases are foreign content. Foreign films take about 95% of the screen time in our movie theatres. Foreign content makes up 61% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Kristallnacht During The Holocaust During World War II, a cruel event called the Holocaust was in effect. The Holocaust was a genocide of all people deemed inferior by Hitler and the Nazis, mainly the Jews. During the Holocaust, many different acts of terror took place. This included the pogrom of The Night of Broken Glass, or Kristallnacht, which actually means Night of Crystal. Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused great damage and distress among the Jewish community in the late 1930s. Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused great damage to Jewish owned buildings and businesses. It was on November 9, 1938 that it began and though the Nazis despised Jews, they claimed that there was more to the pogrom and why it happened. The pretext for the pogroms was the shooting in Paris on November 7 of the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a Polish Jewish student, Herschel Grynszpan. (Berenbaum 1) This means that the main excuse for Kristallnacht was the shooting of a German Official by a Jew. This shooting had angered the Nazis and led to the pogrom. In its aftermath, German officials announced that Kristallnacht had erupted as a spontaneous outburst of public sentiment in response to the assassination of Ernst vom Rath. ( Kristallnacht. 1) After the event, German officials told the public that Kristallnacht happened suddenly due to the assassination of one of their own, and they were not entirely responsible for it. The Germans were actually blaming the Jews for the destruction of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Causes Of The Salem Witchcraft Trials Of 1692 Neil Armstrong once said Mystery creates wonder, and wonder is the basis of man s desire to understand. The witchcraft trials of 1692 are still certainly shrouded by boundless amounts of mystery. For decades, the exact reasons for which the many citizens of Salem Massachusetts were accused of witchcraft remain unclear. Furthermore, the strange events and symptoms that the people documented in salem during the time of the witchcraft trials also remain somewhat inexplicable. During this relatively brief span of time, more than 200 people were accused of witchcraft, and 20 were executed. The people of Salem were puritans, a religious group that splintered off of the catholic church following Martin Luther s post of the 95 theses. The people of the town would claim that those accused were bewitched and under the influence of an Evil Hand . Of the many accused, 19 were women, all of which were hanged. The twentieth was the husband of one of the convicted witches. Instead of being hanged, the man was gruesomely pressed to death by heavy weights placed on top of him. Accusing others of witchery became a way to enforce male superiority, as well as a tactic used to settle feuds between citizens. While the question may never be answered in complete certainty, the most plausible causes of the witchcraft trials in salem may still be found. Sexism and religion were among the main reasons for the witchcraft hysteria, the explanation as to what the cause of the strange symptoms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
