Utopia Vs Privatization Essay
Even though mobility, utopias and privatization have many similarities, do they work together in
urban space? When I first read the words I thought that they have a lot in common so they must all
interact. Once I thought about the words individually I realized that they have some ideas that could
also clash despite the fact that they do all have connections. To decide these connections we must
understand what mobility, utopia and privatization is first.
Mobility is a huge part of the culture in the United States. It is defined as the ability to move freely
and easily. This idea of mobility started with the very first immigrants. We clearly have immigrants
from all over the world, in fact, by 2006 it was estimated that 12 percent of the U.S. ... Show more

In class, we talked about three utopian ideas that were actually put into action in a few cities. The first
is the city beautiful movement. The design is just like the name makes it sounds; the idea that
everything in the city will be designed with beauty in mind. This meant that it would reflect the rebirth
of the United States through confidence and class of mostly prominent, architectchally sound
buildings. A real example is Central Park in New York City. Despite the rapidly changing population
of New York, this design is clearly thriving. The next utopian idea was from Le Corbusier called the
Radiant City. His idea stemmed from changing the polluted industrial city into a clean one. He wanted
to do this by making taller buildings where large amounts of people would reside to ensure for more
green space. One can see a city that reflects this design idea in Brasilla. The last utopian idea is called
the garden city by Ebenezer Howard and was implemented in Greenbelt, Maryland for one example.
The garden city utopia is designed in concentric rings with a mix between a country and a city feel.
Howard thought if the city had both the country and the city feel that everyone would want to live

Socioeconomic Diversity Of Colleges And Universities Essay
In today s world where the population, especially of the United States, is growing gloriously diverse,
institutions of higher education must also reflect this aspect in their student body. The purpose of
colleges and universities is to provide students with the education and experience they need to succeed
after graduating as well as expand their thoughts and perspectives. Thus, they must create and
maintain a similar environment in which students will live and work in the future. Although diversity
has been emphasized as a priority for many schools, socioeconomic diversity is often disregarded.
However, socioeconomic diversity plays an important role in developing the perspectives and minds
of students. Thus, it is essential for the admission offices, especially of prestigious universities like the
University of Pennsylvania, to recruit and admit more economically disadvantaged students as well as
for the schools to meet the needs of and maintain those students.
Diversity has been an ongoing topic of discussion in the higher education setting. However, these
conversations had always placed focus on race, gender, and religion; socioeconomic status tends to be
overlooked (Ma, 2013). Ma (2013) found that discourse about socioeconomic diversity is neglected
because many Penn students do not feel comfortable revealing their family s income or financial aids.
Additionally, social class is not as externally apparent as race or gender. Thus, it was pushed aside and
ignored in

Wwe By Fatimah Asghar, A Light Is Shone On The Tendencies...
In the poem WWE by Fatimah Asghar, a light is shone on the tendencies of Americans to praise men
and masculinity. More than that, Asghar provides insight to her own experiences with American
culture as a Pakistani woman trying to find her way in this country. In the poem, Asghar expresses her
pride for her country, while simultaneously discussing the assimilation of her aunt to American
culture. In this way, she uses this poem as an outlet to express her experience of becoming American.
Through the use of passionate diction, realistic imagery, couplet form, Asghar is able to paint a clear
picture of the struggles of immigrants trying to assimilate to American culture, and the relationships
between man and woman. Asghar starts the poem off by describing her aunt s actions as she prepares
what is most likely dinner for husband. She describes her actions using rolls and pounds . These
specific words can be seen as a parallel to how one would describe the men in WWE. However, by
using these specific masculine descriptors combined with the action of making her traditional native
food, Asghar is able to create a parallel to her native culture and American culture. She is also able to
show the reader that embracing a new culture does not mean you have to leave all semblances of your
previous culture behind. She does this again when she discusses her aunt watching these men on TV
with kajaled eyes. Kajal is the application of kohl, or eyeliner. This is customary in many

Amy Tan And Firoozeh Dumas Essay
In contrast, Amy Tan and Firoozeh Dumas struggled with accepting their culture. Tan s parents
emigrated from China and settled in Oakland, California. She grew up in a Chinese culture and has
struggled to accept it. Her family customs and physical appearances have made Amy feel different
from Americans. On Christmas Eve Tan s mother invited Robert, Amy s crush, and his family for
dinner. Amy was horrified when she found out that her mother invited Robert and his American
family. She thought they would be disappointed with the food her mother prepared, the Chinese
Christmas decorations and her loud and unsuitable mannered relatives. Throughout the dinner, Tan s
relatives displayed inappropriate behaviors that threw her off. Their behavior was inappropriate that ...

These kinds of behaviors are what caused Amy to think of changing her culture and become more
American. Unlike Amy Tan, Firoozeh Dumas struggled with identity. Moving from Iran with her
family, Dumas has struggled with teasing and bullying because of her. Dumas s name Firoozeh means
Turquoise in Farsi. While living in the US, ignorant people have made fun of Firoozeh s name. In the
essay The F Word, Dumas narrates about the struggles of having a different name that s always
pronounced wrong because ignorant Americans refuse to learn it. She also talks about how her
brothers and friend suffered with this too. Dumas not only struggled with ignorant people not
pronouncing her name right, she could not get a job. When she was young, Dumas decided to change
her name to Julie. Having an American name changed everything for her. Students at her school began
to recognize her and invite her to social gatherings. Once she got to college, Dumas changed her name
back to Firoozeh. But that became a problem after she graduated because she could not find a job.

The American Dream For A Long Time Essay
House, a shelter for people, which is one of a basic requirement for human survival in today s world.
According to Andriotis (2014) and Shlay (2006), homeownership is regarded as an aspect of the
American dream for a long time (p.1) (p.527). The American dream, a pursuit that a large number of
US citizens seek, require individuals work hard to achieve it. In other words, owing a property has
long been a gateway to the American dream. Individuals have possession of the house if they have
enough money to afford the payment on a home and be willing to purchase it. Otherwise, people need
to rent a house to guarantee that they have a relatively fixed shelter. However, there are the limited
rights for the tenants, and thus they have to depend on the decision of owners, whereas the landlords
have the power to make a decision on the property since they have the housing ownership. Hence,
whether to buy or rent have become a fundamental problem that plagues the individuals. Elsinga and
Hoekstra (2005) point that the homeownership not only in favor of personal, but also benefit the
community (p.403). Therefore, buying a house is over than renting since it brings tremendous benefits
to individuals. Specifically, purchasing a property is a desirable option that generates tax benefit, build
self confidence for owners, and profits the construction of the community harmony rather than renting
a house. While it is true that owning a house generates numbers of undeniable benefits,

Racquet ball is a fast paced sport that has in the last few years has gained popularity at an enormous
rate. Not only does racquetball offer an excellent cardio workout, the intensity can be exhilarating and
releases stress. Once racquetball was considered a businessman sport, but with the game increasing in
popularity, it has become a sport that has attracted fans from all walks of life and all ages. Racquetball
is played on a rectangular indoor court with four side walls and a ceiling. The courts are designed so
that the ball can bounce off any surface and still be in play, yet it is in a confined area so you don t

Points are scored when after serving the ball, the server wins the rally. If the player returning serve
wins the rally, no points are scored for either player, and the player who won the rally retains the right
to serve. Keeping the ball low and hitting it high gives the opponent time to get to the ball before it
bounces twice. Once the ball is in play, each player hits the ball back and forth until one misses the
ball, hits an illegal shot or goes out of bounds. The objective is earn points or win the serve each
player must try end the rally. To end a rally, a player s shot hits the front wall at its lowest point,
causing the ball to go out of bounds rather than bounce back into the playing area; this is call a kill
shot or a rollout. Rallies end with an error, or if the ball makes contact with the floor before reaching
the wall. The walls and ceilings can be used for shot variations. The key to a great shot is to grip your
racquet firmly. Many shots will fall short because of an improper grip and the racquet ends up at the
wrong angle when it actually makes contact with the ball. A firm grip will make your shots faster and
more accurate. Using the wall to your advantage is one of your best defenses. To excel at the sport
practice makes perfect. Racquetball is also a great game for just one person. Practice hitting balls off

Racial And Ethnic Hierarchy By The K 1 Visa Holders
According to the racial and ethnic hierarchy, the K 1 visa holders are inferior to these shameful
Americans. Due to the US characters ignominy, the foreigners are added another layer of symbolic
meanings in conjunction with their foreignness comprised of race and ethnicity. The foreigners can
potentially transform their characters from an infantilized alien who does not speak English to a threat
to the US who betrays their gullible American partners who brought them to the US from the
uncivilized country. That the mail order brides (or grooms) might manipulate and betray the
inculpable Americans for US citizenship is well acknowledged by the show participants themselves.
To avoid this stigma, the foreigners and the American characters as well resist to be referred as the
mail order bride/marriage and explicitly claim their genuine love to each other. On the third episode in
season one, in the conversation about intention of Aziza (his fiancée from Russia) between him and
his father, the US character, Mike says Aziza is not mail order bride. She is coming here because she
loves me , whose type is frequently found in every cast in the show. Strategically the show utilizes the
stigma of MOB as an instrument to add dramatic effects upon a premise about inferiority in the
foreign casts. On the contrary to their arguments that they are not interested in green card, but seeking
love, portrayals of their behaviors indicating their unculture plant a seed of doubt in their claims,

Obey To A Collectivist Culture Analysis
I believe that individuals in collectivistic cultures tend to obey an authority figure more than
individuals in individualistic cultures. In collectivism, cooperation is the norm; people are expected to
conform to the community, and interdependence is highly valued. The interest of the community is
always taken into consideration when problems arise, when decisions are made, and when conflicts
erupt. However, having read about the obedience experiments performed at Yale in the 1960s by
professor Stanley Milgram, I am not sure that this particular dimension of culture is the only factor
that is to be considered when deciding who would obey to an authority figure. I believe that other
dimensions of culture need to be taken into consideration

everyone will come into contact with either a psychopath or a sociopath at least once in their lifetime.
An antisocial behavior disorder, also known as ASPD is described as a mental disorder categorized by
disregard for other people. Psychopaths and sociopaths both fall into ASPD. Psychopaths and
sociopaths obtain key traits in common, but there are very strong differences as well. Psychopaths do

An impulse is defined as a sudden and unreflective urge or desire to act also as a driving or motivating
force this combining with the inability to to think about being successful and putting a family or
anyones needs including their own above their own sociopathic needs and impulses. In the movie The
Silence of the Lambs there is a killer Jame Gumb named nicknamed buffalo bill , named that way for
his impulsive killing. He lures women off the streets and then skins different parts of them to make a
suit for himself. This character could have gotten away with his crimes but he was not meticulous
enough in how he disposed of his bodies and how he picked up his victim. He was sloppy and let his
impulses control him, when his lover left him to be with another man he killed his other lover, this
was one of the key clues as to how he was identified in the movie. Psychopaths have control over their
impulses with makes them that more dangerous, and also makes them harder to identify Sociopaths

their emotions while they plot. This doesn t mean that they don t have impulses they just don t act on

Comparison Of Fees Must Fall And Black Lives Matter
Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter are two astonishing social movements that have expanded over
a course of time. Fees Must Fall originated in South Africa and is known as a movement led by
students convincing government officials to lower university fees in order for the citizens to attend,
while Black Lives Matter is a movement known for promoting black lives and responding to previous
discrimination against black people. Though these movements appear to be the antithesis of each other
because of the two distinct topics, they are similar due to their shared experiences of inequality and
their mutual platform used to help the movements grow larger. Fees Must Fall and Black Lives Matter
both face inequality in the global black community in different ways. Fees Must Fall was a movement
born out the struggle to obtain affordable access to colleges and universities in South Africa. While the
Apartheid is part of the history behind the struggle, it is not the essence of the movement, but it is the
reason why black students can t afford the fees. Fees Must Fall movements protesters are mainly
students that attend Tshwane University of Technology and The University of Fort Hare. Both of these

Persuasive Essay On Pitbull
This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of listening to Rachael Currier as she tried to persuade her
audience to not be afraid of the Pitbull Terrier and the stereotypes that have been placed on its
forehead. Rachael s initial setup was relaxed and calm, as if she was around a Pitbull Terrier that she
knew. She began her speech in a manner that was with utmost respect to the animal and its power.
Rachael took control of the class as she continued to grab the audience with her extraordinary
reasoning for why Pitbull Terriers are aggressive, but not by nature. Rachael Currier was persuading
her audience to not only be comfortable around the protective dog, but to also consider it as our next
dog of choice. She told her audience that the dig was only vicious because of the way it had been bred

The research of the dog was definitely there, but I don t think it was presented in the most efficient

it is the dog for you and you can provide for it. I was exposed to information on the Pitbull, such as
the breeding history, aggressive nature, the dog s loyalty, and its overall caring nature for its owner.

losing him is catastrophic:

the overly sunny teacher tried to drag her into the overly sunny classroom. Her dad leaned down and

Nonviolent Resistance In Pray The Devil Back To Hell
There are many different ways human beings deal with oppression. One way is nonviolent resistance,
which is a term for describing a range of methods to deal with conflict without the use of violence.
Individuals such as the Liberian women and Mohandas Gandhi claim that nonviolent resistance is
justified through acts of harmonious protests and more likely to produce peaceful and constructive
outcomes. Harmonious protests justify the concept of nonviolent opposition because it achieves public
sympathy. In Pray the Devil Back to Hell, the Liberian women marched down the streets, and as they
continued to march other women would leave their homes and join in to support their strive for peace.
Through this act of peaceful resistance, the women gained recognition and support from society which
made the government rethink the flaws in their system and began to listen to the women in order to

The Causes Of The Battle Of Isandlwana
After the British arrived at the Cape, their influence and power spread to all areas of southern Africa.
This colonisation was met with conflict and resistance, involving many indigenous groups, and led to
tense skirmishes with the Zulu nation. This struggle between the Zulu and the English led to the Battle
of Isandlwana, one of the most famous British defeats in history. The causes involved demands for
labour and land, however there was an ulterior motive as to why Zululand was invaded.
Regarding Anglo Zulu relations, the British felt that the Zulu nation posed a great military threat
against the White Natal Colony and the Transvaal. The British sought to set up a Federation of White
colonies and states in South Africa in 1879 , however they felt vulnerable due to the fear caused by the
very near Zulu menace (Source D). This specific fear of the Zulu nation was dominant because at the

third city of the Republic of South Africa, one of its largest seaports and industrial centres. The
population of the area consisted of 210 000 Whites and 240 000 Bantu/Zulu (Source G) who presented
a threat at the time, making them an obvious target of British colonialism. This is why the British were
determined to increase the conflict with the Zulu kingdom, and thus they would spread their control

Wolf Spider Predation
ABSTRACT
In Cautious versus desperado males: predation risk affects courtship intensity but not female choice in
a wolf spider the courtship displays of the wolf spider, Pardosa milvina were investigated. The wolf
spider s courtship display in males includes raising their legs and shaking their bodies. The rate of a
males leg raises is a signal of the assets the male has, females that mate with males with quicker leg
raises had more progeny and these left the egg sac faster and lived longer. Rypstra et al. wanted to
determine if male wolf spiders that differ in assets and quality would behave differently under the risk
of predation and wondered if the differences in reactions would affect how females choose their
mates. This study consisted of two experiments, in the first experiment they determined that the
symmetry of the front legs of males was related to their rate of leg raises, this was used as a measure
of male quality. They used this measure in the second experiment when they explored how Tigrosa
helluo predator cues changed the males courtship behaviour. It was determined that predation cues did
not have an effect on whether mating happened between males and females and a ... Show more

I believe that higher quality males should perform their courtship display at a lower intensity when
predator cues are present, while lower quality males should increase their displays. This is because
higher quality males long term reproductive options are more evident and lower quality males may
become desperados and showoff whatever assets they have in a desperate attempt to convince a
female to mate with them. If females can judge whether a male is of high or low quality then even
when there is risk of predation, they will mate with the males that are of higher quality (Rypstra et al.

Anne Moody and the Black Panthers Essay
During the 1960s, many Black Americans drew attention to the inequalities among races in society.
Protest groups formed and demonstrations highlighting discrimination towards dark people were a
common practice for civil rights activists. Some activists believed non violence was the only way to
overcome, and others, such as Anne Moody and the Black Panthers, had a more aggressive attitude
towards gaining freedom. In her autobiography, The Coming of Age in Mississippi, Anne Moody
describes the hardships of growing up in the heavily racist South, and displays the price you pay daily
for being Black. (p.361) She grows tired of seeing her Black companions beaten, raped, murdered, and
denied their opportunity to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, they felt that African Americans had been treated as second class citizens since the end of
the Civil War solely because they were Black. The Panthers developed a platform called the Ten Point
Program that described the changes they demanded to see in American society. They wanted a country
in which Black children are provided the same educational opportunities as White children, and
thought that Blacks could only progress by being taught the true history of Black oppression in the
U.S. They demanded that Black Americans have jobs that paid the same wages as Whites and weren t
limited to labor intensive positions. The party also felt that the police force instigated more conflict
and violence than protection, and believed they needed to provide security for Blacks by themselves.
Although they were known for using gun power when necessary, the Panthers envisioned a peaceful
society under a just government where all races could live together. Simply put, the Black Panthers
felt the United States government was not allowing Black Americans to the live in the land of equal
opportunity, but rather denying them the freedoms and liberties constitutionally entitled to them. The
Black Panthers wanted African Americans to be able to determine their destiny.
Because the Black Panthers felt society and government were withholding African Americans from
social progress, they took some matters into their own hands. They promoted more just

This is Home
This Is Home Jack, will you watch where you re driving? You almost hit the guardrail, Gwen said,
holding tight to her seat. Jack put his foot on the brake and the car slowly drifted down to fifty miles
per hour. He hadn t been focused on driving. His mind was set on the conference he had in New York
in two days. It was a very important meeting and he had to be on the top of his game. Jack had worked
as a stockbroker for the past eight years and was quite good at his job. In fact, he was the top account
manager at the company he worked with. Because of this, he was always traveling, going to various
business meetings, visiting various clients, and buying and selling stocks throughout the U.S. Gwen,
his wife, frequently accompanied him on these trips. The two had recently gotten married, but had to
postpone their honeymoon in Guam because Jack had to go to New York for a business meeting. Ever
since they were engaged, Jack and Gwen were always traveling. Gwen knew it was to be expected,
this was Jack s job after all, but she wished she could spend more time with her husband. Jack was
frustrated by it as well, even more so than Gwen. He wanted dearly to spend every minute with her,
but time was at the essence, and stocks didn t sell themselves. Gwen could see that Jack was flustered
and couldn t help but worry what was upsetting him. Jack, Gwen said quietly. Tell me what s wrong,
please? Jack slumped forward in his seat and gave a sigh. He put on his

The Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare
Many women do not like being controlled. In the past, women were oppressed because they were not
allowed to work and control aspects of their lifestyle, such as working themselves, rather they were
forced to marry and depend on their spouses. William Shakespeare chose to present this concept
through Katherina s character in the play The Taming of The Shrew. Throughout the play, Katherina is
seems to be untamable due to the manner in which she is first introduced, her attitude changes too
abruptly for it to be convincing, and that she is either putting on an act or she s just scared. In the first
scene when Katherina was introduced, it was made clear that she is not a submissive person; she is in
fact very abrasive. In the Elizabethan era, it is custom that if a family had two daughters the one that is
older would have to marry first. In this story, several men want to marry Katherina however she does
not want to be wed. During their first interaction with Katherina, her suitors are instantly aware of her
temper. Katherina then tells her father she does not want to be embarrassed in front of the men.
Hortensio makes a comment about her temper which Katherina responds to with I faith, sir, you shall
never need to fear. I wis it is not halfway to her heart (1.1.62 63). This shows that Katherina does not
have any intention of marrying any of the men interested in her. Katherina s decision not only affects
her, but her sister Bianca. Bianca is not able to marry anyone

Who Is The Protagonist In A Midsummer s Night Dream
A Midsummer s Night Dream s Hidden Protagonist Chaos and mischief are some of the most
important factors of a play. They cause excitement, comedy, amusement, and makes the story being
told much more interesting. Typically, you ll see stories and even modern day shows with a character
that causes chaos and trouble for the main characters. These pranksters are known as some of the most
liked characters most often by the audience because of there ability to make one laugh and create
funny and intriguing situations. In A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, Robin
Goodfellow (better known as Puck), takes on that role. Puck goes around playing pranks on the fairies
and the humans all throughout the play, and often makes jokes out of them as well. Robin Goodfellow
can be seen as the plays protagonist because he is the cause of most of the serious issues that occur. ...

He is often seen using magic on humans, and even other fairies, to play pranks and cause issues.
Because of Pucks mischievous behavior throughout the play, it is fair to say he is one of the most
influential characters in the entire play. As soon as we are introduced to Puck, we get an introduction
to his antics: And sometimes lurk I in a gossip s bowl In very likeness of a roasted crab, And when she
drinks, against her lips I bob And on her withered dewlap pour the ale (Shakespeare, 2.1.33 36). Puck
describes how he enjoys scaring old women be pretending to be an apple in their drink and causing
them to spill all over themselves. This is how the audience is introduced to the character, and his
actions serve as great support as establishing Puck will to cause chaos and issues for other

Over the years, the government has given more responsibility through subcontracts for nonprofits to
carry out a range of services for communities. Consequently, nonprofits face major challenges in a
constantly changing environment. This type of environment has created a battle amongst other
nonprofits as they struggle to obtain similar resources. In this memorandum, the topic of strategy
formulation in the not for profit area and its application to nonprofits are touched on.

Letter From A Birmingham Jail By Martin Luther King Jr
Human Rights Activist, Martin Luther King Jr, in his letter, Letter from a Birmingham Jail , writes to
the public, justifying his actions against segregation. King s purpose is to convey the idea that
segregation is morally wrong in all senses. He displays a disciplined, yet exasperated manner while
referencing historical and biblical events, to show society how segregation is inhuman.
King begins his letter to the clergymen of Birmingham by comparing his actions to that of biblical
figures, seeking social justice. He appeals to the audience s religious beliefs by paralleling the actions
taken place. Stating Just as the prophets of the eight century B.C. left their villages and carried their
thus saith the Lord far beyond the boundaries of their hometowns, and just as the Apostle Paul left his
village of Tarus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, so
am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my own home town. Like Paul, I must
constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid. He furthermore clarifies that with a nonviolent
social tension, the discrimination will be brought into full view of society. He demonstrates this by
stating, Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals
could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and
objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind

Social Cost Evaluation (NSFAD)
Goncalves provides the most complete social cost evaluation of the NSFAD of any of my sources.
Furthermore, a social cost evaluation is best way to measure the repercussions of the policy on
Portuguese society because it is congruent with other scholarship on social cost evaluations dealing
with substances similar to illicit drugs such as tobacco and alcohol. However, it is not without it s
flaws, as pointed out by other scholarship. As previously mentioned, from 2001 through 2005 the
number of drug citations fell, reducing the overall social cost of drug use. Goncalves also provides
that when drug citations returned to pre NSFAD levels from 2005 2010 the associated social costs
were still reduced compared to pre NSFAD social costs (205). These findings as a whole are
misleading for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, as previously proven, policing had a negative cost shift overall due to the NSFAD calling for
more funding to go to drug trafficking policing. Local policing costs have not significantly changed,
though, meaning that the NSFAD did not augment the amount of police interaction with drug users.
Taking into account this information it can be claimed that in terms of the social cost, or the taxpayer
burden, the NSFAD has been a mixed bag. What can be positively asserted is that both prison costs
and the lost income/productivity of the drug offend has been significantly reduced due to the
introduction of decriminalization and CTD s. Taking into account all four social cost categories
identified by Goncalves as well as the their respective limitations and caveats, it can not be
confidently be claimed that the overall social costs of drug use following the implementation of the
NSFAD were decreased, rather success in reducing negative social repercussions should be considered
on a category by category

The Country Of Ghan Ghana
History Thousand of years ago, between the 9th and 11th centuries, Ghana took pride on being one of
the richest areas in Africa. Geographically, they were literally sitting on a gold mine. The dogs wore
gold collars, horses had silk bridles, and Ghana s kings were easily some of the richest in the world.
This medieval Ghana was located about 500 miles north of present day Ghana, and was referred to as
the Gold Coast for obvious reasons. Far more advanced than any country in its time, Ghana was a
trading hotspot with a powerful king and economy. However, this time of prosperity would not last
forever. In the 13th century, Ghana faced gold trading competition and attacks from other territories
out of jealously. Eventually, they were defeated and taken over by the Kingdom of Mali, the next great
empire which was even wealthier than Ghana. Although that kingdom was eventually weakened, it
marked one of the last periods before European intervention. In 1471, the Portuguese arrive as the first
Europeans with the intention to trade; they traded firearms and slaves from other territories in return
for gold dust. By now, the Akan people are the largest tribe in the area. Slaves increased economic
productivity, and the weapons allowed the Akan states to expand. In 1642, the Dutch replaced the
Portuguese, and 30 years later, Great Britain and Denmark established their own trading posts. These
European powers wanted slaves, and soon they replaced gold as the main export. Conflicts

Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer
Glory. It is an honor that all men, even if they are not aware, strive for. The definition of glory is
different for everyone. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could mean
taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not defined as a
multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his upright inner
voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer, Tillman rejects a
successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the September 11, 2011,
terrorist attack. I never thought a book with so much war and politics could be so heart wrenching.
Although I did not like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a great
deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the book is on
page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed with the
ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them, and become
more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain in a comic
book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down, he always came
back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been better. Also, Krakauer
s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused. Nevertheless, not all is bad about
Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he included actual entries from
Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and family. In doing so, Krakauer made
me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his loved ones. This made a powerful impact
on the book and reader.
Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is
more significant. I will admit that I am not an avid reader. For a book to successfully make me feel
heartbroken says a lot. I had never heard of the story of Pat Tillman, so

Manliness Through Camera Angle And Zoom Analysis
The Change in Manliness Through Camera Angle and Zoom By April of 1945, the second World War
was drawing to a close. Nazi Germany was unraveling as the allies were closing in on Berlin.
However, the battle for the Pacific was still raging. The movie Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson
encapsulates the vicious fighting between the Americans and Japanese during the battle of Okinawa.
The movie depicts the struggle Private Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield) during boot camp,
and battle, faced from his fellow soldiers because of his extreme religious practices. In the middle of
the film, during boot camp, we can see that the platoon bully Doss in the barracks, especially Private
Smitty. In this scene, through camera angle and camera zoom, Mel Gibson encapsulates the
discrimination and group mentality of the platoon against Doss. After the initial assault however, and
after Doss single handedly saves seventy or more soldiers, the platoon waits for Doss to finish his
prayer before assaulting Hacksaw Ridge the second time. By showing this scene, Mel Gibson destroys
the connotation that a man is only judged by his physicality and toughness. By showing that Desmond
is the most courageous man in the platoon without being violent, it shows that religion and self belief
is what a man is truly judged on. The first shot of the barracks invites the audience to see the
harassment through Desmond s eyes as he is sitting on his bed reading his bible. Smitty is hanging in
the background,

The Appeal And Spread Of Radical Islam
The appeal and spread of radical Islam within the United States is becoming a serious national
security risk. In the past radical Islamic groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda placed cells in the United
States for the purpose of taking down the American establishment through domestic terrorism. In
order to counter and even stop this phenomenon, it is essential that law enforcing and the intelligence
community understand what makes Radical Islam so appealing. Moreover, Once Officials figure out
the appeal of radical Islam, only then can an effective strategy to combat radical Islam be made and

Furthermore, many radical Islamic groups believe that man made laws are shirk and they are not too

legitimacy in the eyes of radical Islamist is Sharia law (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Which is
believed to be law directly passed down from Allah. In addition, radical groups such as Al Muhajiroun
believe that all actions, decisions and deeds are an act of praise and worship as long as it follows

the strict interpretations of Islam are doomed to burn in the fiery pits of hell, while those of follow

principle to keep their members in check. It is also important to note that each Radical Islamist group

Analysis Of Ralph Emerson s Self Reliance
Ralph Emerson states in Self reliance that envy is ignorance and imitation is suicide. One cannot copy
and try to be like another. For if you do, it will only lead to your demise. Envy and imitation of
another individual are like following someone s shadow blindly. One does not know what lies ahead.
When you follow behind someone, you are losing the many opportunities given to you. You reject
other opinions and their morals to follow another and live by society s code. Conforming means to
throw away your nature and follow the guidelines of life. Now, what are these guidelines of life? The
truth is that there are no guidelines to life. So then why are we tied down to act the way that we all do?
Everyone knows that there are things you can do and things you can not. Every day we follow a
routine set by ourselves based off society. We wake up and go out to wherever you must be whether it
be work or school. But why do we do such things? Can we not go do something else rather than
follow a daily routine 365 days a year? No, we must conform to society because if you do not, it will
bite back and hurt you more. Conforming and changing ourselves so that others see us in a positive
light is everywhere. Our families; the people that we spent the most time with having altered our look
on the world s and our beliefs. Your family members have molded and formed what is now you today.
They implanted beliefs, religions, and customs that they were taught from their family

My Writing Portfolio
Writing Portfolio Reflection Over the course of the last four months, I have developed numerous
writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have learned new, strong

myself a good writer, but getting thoughts from my head to paper has always been a difficult and long

Symbolism In Mansfield Park
Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen, is a literary classic full of symbolism. One such symbol is
that of gardening and landscaping, two highly important factors to the family in this novel. The
characters throughout the novel seem distressed at times about this factor in their lives. But why is
gardening and such trivial things of such grass and landscaping? Eighteenth century landowners spent
a great deal of time and money remaking the grounds of their estates (Olsen 316). There were many
reasons on why these upper class people worried so much about this and there were many ways that
Austen showed this need for approval and used it to exemplify her characters. Yet, Austen uses the
shrubbery and the aspects of nature to reflect her diverse and complexing characters in many of her
novels. The symbolism of nature is a mirror to how the characters, and humanity, truly are. In
Mansfield Park...nature rather than landscape tends to be emphasized and frequently related to a
character s mood or state of mind (Baker 541). Fanny has a more religious tone throughout the novel
and her beliefs affect her crucially. Fanny is at one end of the spectrum, whilst Mary is at the other.
Fanny exemplifies the Christian mind s seeking after God s divine invisible things though the [visible]
things he made in the natural world (Tarpley 165). Fanny s beliefs put her on one end, which puts
Mary, her opposition, at the end. In Mansfield Park, Austen typically contrasts Fanny s response

BENNER S THEORY FROM NOVICE TO EXPERT AND ITS
ROLE IN APRN PRACTICE
Gagandeep Sandhu
Samuel Merritt University
Patricia Benner s theory From Novice to Expert is based on the concept of nurses developing skills
and understanding of the patients care overtime which comes from their continued efforts towards
trying to achieve strong education and personal experience. The theory explains the five levels of
nursing experience: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert. Starting from
novice where they don t have any experience and simply follow instructions, nurses finally reach the
expert level transitioning through different levels where they rely on their experience rather than
principles or guidelines to connect situations and determine actions. Their performance is fluid,
flexible, and highly proficient at this level. Benner stresses on skills through experience as a
prerequisite for becoming an expert nurse (Nursing world, 2013).
Benner s theory gives a hope to new nurses and nurse practitioners in a way that experience brings
expertise. Benner emphasizes on professional growth within the organization with increased
experience. This theory provides a useful structure for practice development and marks out the
difference between the functioning of novice and experienced nurses (Lyneham, Parkinson Denholm
(2009). It emphasizes on the power of expertise and empowers the nurse to expand her knowledge. It

Carbapenem Research Paper
Carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
1.) What is the organism?
CRE, which stands for carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae, are a family of germs that are
difficult to treat because of their resistance to certain antibiotics such as carbapenem. This is often
found in people s gastrointestinal tract that can cause infections, both in the community and healthcare
settings.
2.) What is colonization of the specific organism?
The organism can be found on the body, but it is not causing any symptoms or disease. Colonizing
CRE strains can go on to cause infections if they gain access to body sites that are usually sterile like
the bladder, the lungs, or the bloodstream.

  • 2. Utopia Vs Privatization Essay Even though mobility, utopias and privatization have many similarities, do they work together in urban space? When I first read the words I thought that they have a lot in common so they must all interact. Once I thought about the words individually I realized that they have some ideas that could also clash despite the fact that they do all have connections. To decide these connections we must understand what mobility, utopia and privatization is first. Mobility is a huge part of the culture in the United States. It is defined as the ability to move freely and easily. This idea of mobility started with the very first immigrants. We clearly have immigrants from all over the world, in fact, by 2006 it was estimated that 12 percent of the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In class, we talked about three utopian ideas that were actually put into action in a few cities. The first is the city beautiful movement. The design is just like the name makes it sounds; the idea that everything in the city will be designed with beauty in mind. This meant that it would reflect the rebirth of the United States through confidence and class of mostly prominent, architectchally sound buildings. A real example is Central Park in New York City. Despite the rapidly changing population of New York, this design is clearly thriving. The next utopian idea was from Le Corbusier called the Radiant City. His idea stemmed from changing the polluted industrial city into a clean one. He wanted to do this by making taller buildings where large amounts of people would reside to ensure for more green space. One can see a city that reflects this design idea in Brasilla. The last utopian idea is called the garden city by Ebenezer Howard and was implemented in Greenbelt, Maryland for one example. The garden city utopia is designed in concentric rings with a mix between a country and a city feel. Howard thought if the city had both the country and the city feel that everyone would want to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Socioeconomic Diversity Of Colleges And Universities Essay In today s world where the population, especially of the United States, is growing gloriously diverse, institutions of higher education must also reflect this aspect in their student body. The purpose of colleges and universities is to provide students with the education and experience they need to succeed after graduating as well as expand their thoughts and perspectives. Thus, they must create and maintain a similar environment in which students will live and work in the future. Although diversity has been emphasized as a priority for many schools, socioeconomic diversity is often disregarded. However, socioeconomic diversity plays an important role in developing the perspectives and minds of students. Thus, it is essential for the admission offices, especially of prestigious universities like the University of Pennsylvania, to recruit and admit more economically disadvantaged students as well as for the schools to meet the needs of and maintain those students. Diversity has been an ongoing topic of discussion in the higher education setting. However, these conversations had always placed focus on race, gender, and religion; socioeconomic status tends to be overlooked (Ma, 2013). Ma (2013) found that discourse about socioeconomic diversity is neglected because many Penn students do not feel comfortable revealing their family s income or financial aids. Additionally, social class is not as externally apparent as race or gender. Thus, it was pushed aside and ignored in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Wwe By Fatimah Asghar, A Light Is Shone On The Tendencies... In the poem WWE by Fatimah Asghar, a light is shone on the tendencies of Americans to praise men and masculinity. More than that, Asghar provides insight to her own experiences with American culture as a Pakistani woman trying to find her way in this country. In the poem, Asghar expresses her pride for her country, while simultaneously discussing the assimilation of her aunt to American culture. In this way, she uses this poem as an outlet to express her experience of becoming American. Through the use of passionate diction, realistic imagery, couplet form, Asghar is able to paint a clear picture of the struggles of immigrants trying to assimilate to American culture, and the relationships between man and woman. Asghar starts the poem off by describing her aunt s actions as she prepares what is most likely dinner for husband. She describes her actions using rolls and pounds . These specific words can be seen as a parallel to how one would describe the men in WWE. However, by using these specific masculine descriptors combined with the action of making her traditional native food, Asghar is able to create a parallel to her native culture and American culture. She is also able to show the reader that embracing a new culture does not mean you have to leave all semblances of your previous culture behind. She does this again when she discusses her aunt watching these men on TV with kajaled eyes. Kajal is the application of kohl, or eyeliner. This is customary in many ... • 7. Amy Tan And Firoozeh Dumas Essay In contrast, Amy Tan and Firoozeh Dumas struggled with accepting their culture. Tan s parents emigrated from China and settled in Oakland, California. She grew up in a Chinese culture and has struggled to accept it. Her family customs and physical appearances have made Amy feel different from Americans. On Christmas Eve Tan s mother invited Robert, Amy s crush, and his family for dinner. Amy was horrified when she found out that her mother invited Robert and his American family. She thought they would be disappointed with the food her mother prepared, the Chinese Christmas decorations and her loud and unsuitable mannered relatives. Throughout the dinner, Tan s relatives displayed inappropriate behaviors that threw her off. Their behavior was inappropriate that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These kinds of behaviors are what caused Amy to think of changing her culture and become more American. Unlike Amy Tan, Firoozeh Dumas struggled with identity. Moving from Iran with her family, Dumas has struggled with teasing and bullying because of her. Dumas s name Firoozeh means Turquoise in Farsi. According to Andriotis (2014) and Shlay (2006), homeownership is regarded as an aspect of the American dream for a long time (p.1) (p.527). The American dream, a pursuit that a large number of US citizens seek, require individuals work hard to achieve it. In other words, owing a property has long been a gateway to the American dream. Otherwise, people need to rent a house to guarantee that they have a relatively fixed shelter. However, there are the limited rights for the tenants, and thus they have to depend on the decision of owners, whereas the landlords have the power to make a decision on the property since they have the housing ownership. Hence, whether to buy or rent have become a fundamental problem that plagues the individuals. Elsinga and Hoekstra (2005) point that the homeownership not only in favor of personal, but also benefit the community (p.403). Throughout the play, Katherina is seems to be untamable due to the manner in which she is first introduced, her attitude changes too abruptly for it to be convincing, and that she is either putting on an act or she s just scared. In the first scene when Katherina was introduced, it was made clear that she is not a submissive person; she is in fact very abrasive. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid. He furthermore clarifies that with a nonviolent social tension, the discrimination will be brought into full view of society. He demonstrates this by stating, Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind ... • 33. Social Cost Evaluation (NSFAD) Goncalves provides the most complete social cost evaluation of the NSFAD of any of my sources. Furthermore, a social cost evaluation is best way to measure the repercussions of the policy on Portuguese society because it is congruent with other scholarship on social cost evaluations dealing with substances similar to illicit drugs such as tobacco and alcohol. However, it is not without it s flaws, as pointed out by other scholarship. As previously mentioned, from 2001 through 2005 the number of drug citations fell, reducing the overall social cost of drug use. Goncalves also provides that when drug citations returned to pre NSFAD levels from 2005 2010 the associated social costs were still reduced compared to pre NSFAD social costs (205). These findings as a whole are misleading for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, as previously proven, policing had a negative cost shift overall due to the NSFAD calling for more funding to go to drug trafficking policing. Local policing costs have not significantly changed, though, meaning that the NSFAD did not augment the amount of police interaction with drug users. Taking into account this information it can be claimed that in terms of the social cost, or the taxpayer burden, the NSFAD has been a mixed bag. What can be positively asserted is that both prison costs and the lost income/productivity of the drug offend has been significantly reduced due to the introduction of decriminalization and CTD s. Taking into account all four social cost categories identified by Goncalves as well as the their respective limitations and caveats, it can not be confidently be claimed that the overall social costs of drug use following the implementation of the NSFAD were decreased, rather success in reducing negative social repercussions should be considered on a category by category ... • 34. The Country Of Ghan Ghana History Thousand of years ago, between the 9th and 11th centuries, Ghana took pride on being one of the richest areas in Africa. Geographically, they were literally sitting on a gold mine. The dogs wore gold collars, horses had silk bridles, and Ghana s kings were easily some of the richest in the world. This medieval Ghana was located about 500 miles north of present day Ghana, and was referred to as the Gold Coast for obvious reasons. Far more advanced than any country in its time, Ghana was a trading hotspot with a powerful king and economy. However, this time of prosperity would not last forever. In the 13th century, Ghana faced gold trading competition and attacks from other territories out of jealously. Eventually, they were defeated and taken over by the Kingdom of Mali, the next great empire which was even wealthier than Ghana. Although that kingdom was eventually weakened, it marked one of the last periods before European intervention. In 1471, the Portuguese arrive as the first Europeans with the intention to trade; they traded firearms and slaves from other territories in return for gold dust. By now, the Akan people are the largest tribe in the area. Slaves increased economic productivity, and the weapons allowed the Akan states to expand. In 1642, the Dutch replaced the Portuguese, and 30 years later, Great Britain and Denmark established their own trading posts. These European powers wanted slaves, and soon they replaced gold as the main export. Conflicts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer Glory. It is an honor that all men, even if they are not aware, strive for. The definition of glory is different for everyone. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could mean taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not defined as a multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his upright inner voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer, Tillman rejects a successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the September 11, 2011, terrorist attack. I never thought a book with so much war and politics could be so heart wrenching. Although I did not like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a great deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the book is on page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed with the ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them, and become more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain in a comic book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down, he always came back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been better. Also, Krakauer s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused. Nevertheless, not all is bad about Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he included actual entries from Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and family. In doing so, Krakauer made me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his loved ones. This made a powerful impact on the book and reader. Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is more significant. I will admit that I am not an avid reader. • 36. Manliness Through Camera Angle And Zoom Analysis The Change in Manliness Through Camera Angle and Zoom By April of 1945, the second World War was drawing to a close. Nazi Germany was unraveling as the allies were closing in on Berlin. However, the battle for the Pacific was still raging. The movie Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson encapsulates the vicious fighting between the Americans and Japanese during the battle of Okinawa. The movie depicts the struggle Private Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield) during boot camp, and battle, faced from his fellow soldiers because of his extreme religious practices. In the middle of the film, during boot camp, we can see that the platoon bully Doss in the barracks, especially Private Smitty. In this scene, through camera angle and camera zoom, Mel Gibson encapsulates the discrimination and group mentality of the platoon against Doss. After the initial assault however, and after Doss single handedly saves seventy or more soldiers, the platoon waits for Doss to finish his prayer before assaulting Hacksaw Ridge the second time. By showing this scene, Mel Gibson destroys the connotation that a man is only judged by his physicality and toughness. By showing that Desmond is the most courageous man in the platoon without being violent, it shows that religion and self belief is what a man is truly judged on. The first shot of the barracks invites the audience to see the harassment through Desmond s eyes as he is sitting on his bed reading his bible. Smitty is hanging in the background, ... • 38. Analysis Of Ralph Emerson s Self Reliance Ralph Emerson states in Self reliance that envy is ignorance and imitation is suicide. One cannot copy and try to be like another. For if you do, it will only lead to your demise. Envy and imitation of another individual are like following someone s shadow blindly. One does not know what lies ahead. When you follow behind someone, you are losing the many opportunities given to you. You reject other opinions and their morals to follow another and live by society s code. Conforming means to throw away your nature and follow the guidelines of life. Now, what are these guidelines of life? The truth is that there are no guidelines to life. So then why are we tied down to act the way that we all do? Everyone knows that there are things you can do and things you can not. Every day we follow a routine set by ourselves based off society. We wake up and go out to wherever you must be whether it be work or school. But why do we do such things? Can we not go do something else rather than follow a daily routine 365 days a year? No, we must conform to society because if you do not, it will bite back and hurt you more. Conforming and changing ourselves so that others see us in a positive light is everywhere. My Writing Portfolio Writing Portfolio Reflection Over the course of the last four months, I have developed numerous writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have learned new, strong verbs to incorporate into my english papers. • 40. Symbolism In Mansfield Park Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen, is a literary classic full of symbolism. One such symbol is that of gardening and landscaping, two highly important factors to the family in this novel. The characters throughout the novel seem distressed at times about this factor in their lives. But why is gardening and such trivial things of such grass and landscaping? Eighteenth century landowners spent a great deal of time and money remaking the grounds of their estates (Olsen 316). There were many reasons on why these upper class people worried so much about this and there were many ways that Austen showed this need for approval and used it to exemplify her characters. Yet, Austen uses the shrubbery and the aspects of nature to reflect her diverse and complexing characters in many of her novels. The symbolism of nature is a mirror to how the characters, and humanity, truly are. In Mansfield Park...nature rather than landscape tends to be emphasized and frequently related to a character s mood or state of mind (Baker 541). Fanny has a more religious tone throughout the novel and her beliefs affect her crucially. Fanny is at one end of the spectrum, whilst Mary is at the other. Fanny exemplifies the Christian mind s seeking after God s divine invisible things though the [visible] things he made in the natural world (Tarpley 165). Fanny s beliefs put her on one end, which puts Mary, her opposition, at the end. In Mansfield Park, Austen typically contrasts Fanny s response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BENNER S THEORY FROM NOVICE TO EXPERT AND ITS ROLE IN APRN PRACTICE Gagandeep Sandhu Samuel Merritt University Patricia Benner s theory From Novice to Expert is based on the concept of nurses developing skills and understanding of the patients care overtime which comes from their continued efforts towards trying to achieve strong education and personal experience. The theory explains the five levels of nursing experience: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert. Starting from novice where they don t have any experience and simply follow instructions, nurses finally reach the expert level transitioning through different levels where they rely on their experience rather than principles or guidelines to connect situations and determine actions. Their performance is fluid, flexible, and highly proficient at this level. Benner stresses on skills through experience as a prerequisite for becoming an expert nurse (Nursing world, 2013). Benner s theory gives a hope to new nurses and nurse practitioners in a way that experience brings expertise. Benner emphasizes on professional growth within the organization with increased experience. This theory provides a useful structure for practice development and marks out the difference between the functioning of novice and experienced nurses (Lyneham, Parkinson Denholm (2009). It emphasizes on the power of expertise and empowers the nurse to expand her knowledge. It validates the clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
